My oldest son started using Varsity Tutors in 2020 when Covid hit and they shut down the school his Kindergarten year. I didn't want him to fall behind as we had decided to go to virtual school for 1st and 2nd grade to avoid getting sick. We found a tutor who he absolutely adored through Varsity Tutors and continued with for 3 years.

I had two children getting 4 hours of private tutoring in Algebra 1 plus they both were enrolled in a "Bridge the Gap" class so they would be prepared for the transition from Pre-Algebra to Algebra over the summer. This class was at no additional cost. My girls also utilized the chat feature that allowed them to get instant help through a chat. We also plan to use the feature where they can send in their English papers and get feedback prior to submitting it for class. We also plan on using the study hall classes made available weekly - specifically for Algebra 1 if they need additional help at any point. All these additional features really make this a wonderful service. My girls also have ASD so I wasn't sure how online learning would go for them, but it's been fantastic!

I paid up front for what I was told would be 2 sessions of tutoring for my daughter. She completed one session but because of anxiety related issues was unable to complete the second session. She was literally in tears after the first session and I couldn't subject her to that experience again. She and the tutor were not a good fit and the entire experience of being tutored virtually just didn't work for her. I thought that was the end of it. A month later I was automatically billed another $199. I contacted Varsity the same day I was billed to request a refund since I didn't plan to use the second session. I was told it would not be refunded because I'd actually subscribed to a monthly membership and that refunds aren't given once you've been billed. Had no idea of that and have still never seen paperwork stating that's true. Despite my best efforts to explain the situation, they kept the money even though they knew the second hour would never be used.

Parents please reach out to your qualified/certified teachers working in your district.. This company does not deserve to exist... Total SCAM.. They are not really in your best interest as TEACHERS are... Just money.

HORRIBLE. Tried to cancel my membership. Took an ACT of GOD. I had email then ONLY then called them spoke to someone said I needed to get confirmation from Billing (why they can't directly transfer me directly to billing I have NO clue). They billed me the entire month vs. per session so I have to complete the month even though this method of online tutoring IS NOT working. HORRIBLE. Get a live tutor.

We have used Varsity Tutors now for about 4 months to help keep my son learning over the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade. We have a family history of dyslexia and needed something that was flexible as we had a busy summer. Varsity was/is great to work with! His tutor has been amazing about keeping his attention and progressing through material even though it can be challenging with an active 6 year old!

They are definitely scammy. The tutor my daughter got was great - but they said the 8 hours I paid for would get used up before they charged me again - That was a lie that the salesperson sold me because then they charged me for 8 hours every month as a subscription. Then another lying salesperson told me I could pause for the summer - and they would NOT start the subscription again until I spoke with them - and -of course- I said that I would not need 8 hours - only 4 or less if this is a subscription. But - that was a lie again as I was charged for 8 hours suddenly in August - without even knowing what class she might need tutoring for. And they REFUSED to refund. They did say they canceled my subscription, but I will keep checking because the people on the phones have lied to me so many times - I can imagine they would charge me again and say that I didn't cancel.

The company resolved my issues in a very professional manner and to my 100% satisfaction and they have my thanks. I will use this service in the future for sure given the care taken to resolve my concern.

We’ve been very impressed with Varsity Tutors for our 11 year old. They really take the time to tailor the academic content and the tutor for the child’s needs. Her confidence has soared as she’s started middle school. They’re also great with tech support and scheduling your sessions as needed. Thank you!

Varsity Tutors has the best and most qualified tutors available on any platform which gives you the best learning experience. And the website is great for learning material such as videos and practice lessons to help people gain confidence even on days you don’t have appointments with a tutor. I recommend them to anyone looking to further your education or learn something new and the customer service is excellent and always helpful.

Wonderful company! I just wanted to sing your praises. They have been wonderful and helping us navigate our child’s needs. Great opportunities and great classes. Available for a child. No complaints. Very happy. Our tutor has been wonderful. They matched us up with an actual teacher, who comes for Lieke paired with a lesson plan and homework. I think my son really enjoys his time with her and she has been wonderful. She understands my son’s needs, she’s patient, she’s caring. Her willingness to go over and over again. Things that he may have already learned but can’t recall is great. Very patient lady.

Worth the money. 2 private tutor hours per month and unlimited live Zoom classes. You can try it out for 30 days and see if it is a good fit for you. The customer service via phone was great and they helped to answer all of my questions, even went above and beyond.

I have been using Varsity Tutors for a year now for my son who is home schooled now due to many factors. His tutor Lucy is amazing and I'm so glad we have her. She helps my son with his confidence in Math and is catching him up to where he should be after falling behind during the pandemic. So glad Varsity Tutors was there when we needed them.

Stay away from them. They overcharged me by $309 and refused to do anything at all to resolve this. This was actually an UNAPPROVED charge! ILLEGAL! They are scam artists. Sales department will yes you, while billing department will overcharge without approval.

The only classes my son has failed in college were the ones he was tutored in by a Varsity Tutor. I was sold a 2 year tutoring program for my college age son who has a learning disability. I was promised tutors that could accommodate his learning disability. I was also promised a grade of B or higher in his college classes. I would have been happy with a C-. He failed both classes he was tutored in, and never had a tutor that was fully qualified to work with someone with a learning disability. He attended 4+ hours of tutoring most weeks, he actually failed assignments that his tutors helped him with!

Varsity Tutors has really impressed us. From the initial sign up, to the communication and tutors; everything has been outstanding. My wife and I adopted our son from Honduras and we believe that it is important for him to know his native language and heritage so that’s why we hired Varsity Tutors. We began learning Spanish a few months ago together and Mrs. ** has helped us so much. Thanks!

I have learned so much very quickly with this program. My one-on-one tutor is outstanding. The group classes are fun and interactive. You meet with language specialists as well as other students. Customer service, if needed, is efficient and prompt. I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in learning a language for travel or just for fun.

Don't let this happen to you! They owe me $1600! They sent me up for auto renewal without my consent. They canceled 10 of my sessions (almost $700!) Saying they had expired. However, my child's tutor was not available for those two weeks as his family was in town. Please see the included screenshots. They are impossible over the phone. Kept telling me I could pause my membership when I demanded to cancel the account. They have not canceled my account despite my demanding them to do so. I emailed them three times as stated on their FAQS page "how to cancel". They keep sending me an email saying I must call them to cancel. But if you call them, they still won't cancel the membership. I noticed the "auto renewal" debits out of my account on July 24, one day after the debits came out. I immediately reached out to Varsity Tutors and they would not refund the money ($975!!!)

Varsity Tutors’ customer service is horrible. They rely on autogenerated texts and emails and struggle to honor scheduled callbacks. I’ve wasted an enormous amount of time trying to resolve issues without talking to anyone that can help. The ONLY thing VT did well was in their tutor placement. The tutor my daughter had was very well qualified and we are very upset to lose her. Unfortunately Varsity Tutors does not manage their client base effectively. I cannot recommend their service.

Tutor was awesome, however the way the company itself is run is disgusting. They’re very quick to contact you and get your money and not once do their inexperienced employees tell you that you’re stuck with a MONTHLY subscription. To add to that they don’t provide any kind of refunds, according to a ridiculous terms of use policy that they conveniently don’t even mention when you initially speak to one of their representatives. Highly recommend they train their team members more.

This company is an overpriced scam. I’m a medical school professor and was mislead to believe they were legit but they let a hack of a tutor teach my child with information plagiarized directly from Chegg - so badly that it was found on a simple homework check. How reprehensible. The money back guarantee is a complete lie. “Do not use this service” is what my son’s university stated.

My son loves the classes offered by Varsity Tutors and I love how professional and engaging they are. The subjects and tutors keep the kids interested and make you want to learn. I also enjoy the free classes offered that makes the experience worth signing on for. I can honestly say that I will definitely recommend Varsity to friends and family.

My 19 year old daughter used Varsity Tutors. She thought she had canceled her subscription. Varsity tutors continue to bill my credit card for several months, even though she was not having any more sessions. When I called to report this and asked for a refund. They declined. There had been no contact letting us know that she was continuing to get billed, but not using the service.

Tutor was lovely, knowledgeable, handled technical glitches successfully, and made video of session for me. Couldn't ask for better experience. Only wish we could have continued longer, I was enjoying so much. Look forward to next session, which tutor easily scheduled in my time frame. Will be expecting to use these services much more in the future.

I love Varsity Tutors. My tutor is amazing. She is flexible and patient. I love having a one-on-one experience because she goes at my pace. This is great when you're learning a new language. I have learned so much from her. I am learning how to converse, but also interact with people from the Deaf community.

I registered for tutoring sessions for my rising 3rd grader with assistance with Homework, Reading & Executive Function support. My initial inquiry was met with a cheery and helpful person who talked through my desires and helped me find a product that we felt would suit our needs. Since signing up just a few days ago, I have received no less than a dozen emails, texts, and calls that were supposed to help me navigate my account (they did not) or acted as if I had not already signed up and paid almost $600 a month (month to month). I was paired with a tutor who was nice and apparently skilled (though I have no real proof of this), but also expressed her inability to connect with the company to get answers (being forwarded to a clearly overseas call center who were unable to support her). When trying to set up a follow up call (based upon a text I received FROM THEM requesting a check-in call) I was never called, despite reminders THEY sent.

I love Varsity Tutors. They have been nothing but helpful for us. We recently started homeschooling our oldest and they are always there to help. The tutor they matched with my kid is awesome and with lots of experience. Lots of live classes to choose from. The best for this new road we are taking. I'm so glad we found them.

I think it's really helping him a lot. And he is more engaged than I expected. They did a great job of selecting his one on one tutor based on his individual needs. And I really appreciate the comprehensive packages available.

Varsity Tutors has been an incredible experience for me! The tutors are masters in their respective fields of study and are always willing to work with your schedule. I signed up to study for the LSAT and am now taking a course to learn Japanese as well! I have seen my LSAT scored significant increase with every test and am now able to read Japanese! I couldn’t be more pleased with the caliber of tutoring my son has received. I was skeptical of the virtual venue in light of our challenges during COVID, but the platform is intuitive, and our tutor works diligently to keep my son engaged. I talked to numerous companies and landed on this one for value and completeness. The combination of live courses AND individual tutoring is vital. What you get for the cost is pretty amazing. Access to more classes than you could ever even complete! The breadth of the offerings is incredible. And the tutor we were paired with has been a god-send! We feel confident our daughter will be thoroughly prepared for the ACT in the coming months, and for that I’m grateful!

My son has been receiving tutoring for help with reading for the past month and he is already becoming a more confident and fluid reader. His tutor is phenomenal! She took the time to find out his interests, so she could really engage with him during each session. She remembers his likes and integrates them into every lesson. I couldn't be more satisfied!

I wouldn't recommend this service to any parent or learner. My son is in the 8th month of his one-year monthly contract and we've had a series of issues from the outset. From simple issues like a system that doesn't provide simple methods for identifying your account number to a chatbot that is exceptionally poor for 2023 standards. Their hours billed/used section line items very basic usage, but doesn't have explanatory supplemental information for things like "transfer out." I'm sure it's buried in the fine print, but much like their cancellation policy, you have to really dig in to find any details. This system seems to strictly intend for you to pay and get put on the factory line where each part works a certain way and that's all you get.

Honestly couldn't recommend this company enough. I took organic chemistry this summer and got an A in the class after taking it for a third time, the other times I was required to withdraw from how bad I was doing in the class. The major difference was made by having a tutor who was very knowledgeable in the topic and was very adaptive with the tutoring style to help shape it to a way that I understood as well as to the format that my class was in so that I didn't get confused. The tutor provided great examples of what something did or could do without taking it to a point that I got lost and was very flexible with her schedule. While their site is a bit pricey it is absolutely worth it if you put the effort in with the tutor to help you succeed.

This has been a great experience so far in breaking down a hard and complex test to make it simpler. My tutor has been fantastic and on top of it! They have given me tasks to work on on my own and taught me how to break down the questions. Love the experience so far.

The company engages in deceptive practices by selling customers the largest package available without clearly disclosing that the hours expire within 12 months. I personally experienced this when I purchased a 30-hour package, assuming it would cover my two kids' needs throughout their four years of high school. However, when I checked my balance for the upcoming year, it showed zero hours remaining. Upon reaching out to them, I received an email stating that my $1400 was forfeited because 23.45 hours had expired. If the salesman had informed me about the expiration policy, I would never have purchased such a large package, knowing that I would lose $1400 in the process (I hope the salesman enjoyed his fraudulent commission check).

I have had the opportunity to use the language tutoring services provided by Varsity Tutors for the last five months. They were able to put me together with a very competent native Italian instructor from Arizona. We meet on the Varsity Tutor site once a week. The support and instruction have more than met my expectations. I have learned more in 5 months than I have tried to learn over the last 40 years. I recommend V. Tutors without reservation.

Such a great service, they are fast and truly care. The tutor I have has dramatically made things easier. I will be an ongoing client, simply because of my experience. I had a thought on what I needed help on, but within the first 10 mins my tutor guided me to clarify and define what I needed to the proper direction.

When I first spoke on the phone with them to begin my service, I was given the option to purchase the 4-hour option once and then add 1 additional hour as needed. When my four hours were completed with my tutor, he messaged me asking when our next session would be. I told him I have no more hours left as it said in my account. I also told him I had finished with the class and will not be needing any more sessions. I was later charged for another 4 hours, which I never agreed to.

I do not recommend anyone for Varsity Tutors. They are horrible. I was taking a certification exam. I was told that it was a pass guarantee for my hours, no matter how many times I needed the hours or I could receive a refund. I failed and now they are refusing to give me a refund or give me my hours back because they are saying that my pass guarantee, has expired. When I was told multiple times that I could get my money back or my hours and now they are saying I can’t have either. Every time I have tried talking to someone they just tell me that is what my account manager said, but when I spoke with billing they told me that my pass guarantee did not seem expired on my account. They literally just take your money. Do not recommend.

Our child was struggling with Spanish so we decided to get her a tutor. After doing some research we decided on Varsity. Varsity provides more than just a tutor but an entire education system. Our daughter's tutor Ms. ** was beyond amazing. Ms. ** helped our daughter get an A!

Our tutor was amazing but the company itself is horrible. Their customer service is terrible, they auto renew your subscription WITHOUT EVER TELLING YOU!!! And then when you chat (because you never actually speak with anyone when you call) to tell them that you never wanted to auto renew and ask for a cancellation and refund, they tell you they do not give refunds, take your money and cancel your subscription at that point. I will never recommend this company to anyone.

My 5-year old was struggling with letter sounds and letter names. He was in jeopardy of not passing to the 1st grade. I decided to sign up for Varsity Tutors. They matched him with the perfect tutor. The tutor is also a kindergarten teacher so she could really relate to my son's needs. She makes the tutoring sessions fun while still getting his lesson plan completed. My son actually looks forward to the sessions, which is rare for him because he doesn't enjoy school very much. He's learned so much. The additional help he's gained from Varsity Tutors has allowed him to pass to 1st grade and feel more comfortable with letter sounds and names. THANK YOU Varsity Tutors!

I was contacted by Varsity Tutors, who assisted me in resolving my concerns and issues. They were empathetic and extremely helpful. The tutors were exceptional, and I can confidently say that their customer service is both helpful and understanding.

Less than 24 hours after this review I received emails confirming my cancellation and mentioning that my refund is on the way. Also I received another email and voicemail asking to speak with a consumer affairs specialist. I have made an appointment for that.

Very helpful tutors are very patient and work with you! It’s also very convenient that you can request an instant tutor when you hit a block doing your work! Even requesting a instant tutor I’ve never had a bad experience!

What an amazing experience for my family. The initial tutor matches for my son and daughter were perfect for them. Both have been progressing at an accelerated rate. They are pleased and so am I as a parent. Varsity Tutors is a solid investment for any learner's future!!!

Varsity Tutors has been charging tutor charges that are not substantiated. Three calls with admitted mistakes. Still has not been rectified with a refund. Getting through to a administrator is onerous and can take over an hour. Very shady and frustrating!

Varsity Tutors has become a main staple in my household. Our tutors are fully engaged in my daughters growth and abilities. We receive feedback and reports, assistance with school homework and positive encouragement for her growth. Through Varsity Tutors we also have access to unlimited educational classes. Our schedule includes phonics, art classes, math, science and even dinosaurs. Instead of television my daughter can engage with live instructors along other children and I have seen such growth and happiness with her continued participation in her classes. I take German lessons with my Dad through Varsity Tutors. Once a week, we're able to meet with a tutor matched by Varsity Tutors who is a professional in her field. The online classroom tool that Varsity Tutors has is very useful in this, and the ability to rewatch sessions is a huge bonus. Overall, really good service for those wanting to take on learning a new skill.

Great engagement with my child, Jill really takes the time to listen to my feedback even looking at screenshots of my child's homework or notes on his lesson plan. I also really love the additional virtual classes and learnings and assessments available for the whole family including myself. I "visited" Pompeii one Saturday, one daughter taking TEAS prep classes, one with high school Biology exam reviews, and I'm actually taking Korean classes now

Varsity Tutors has been so helpful! I have only used Varsity Tutors for 5 months and I will definitely be using them for the rest of my college career. The tutors I have met and used have been so helpful, nice and I could not recommend them enough. The website/app varsity tutors has is so useful too, you can schedule tutoring whenever you need it and you can message with your tutors along with instant tutoring or sending in your essay if for any reason you want it doubled check. You can also join different classes that they offer. I have struggled with dyslexia my whole life and finding good tutors has always been hard but with Varsity Tutors it is so easy! I can not recommend enough!

We have been using this service for 2 months and I am not fighting with my 14 y.o. twins to attend the sessions. It is too soon to tell how much improvement they have made as there has not been additional testing.

I love using Varsity Tutors! They have helped me so much with my Math skills and have been responsive as well as so helpful every step of the way. I also love to use their included classes and material as it helps me to learn another new subject that I have always wanted to learn but have never had the chance.

When I first reached out to Varsity Tutors, they seemed like the answer to my prayers. My twin sons were failing their High School Honors Chemistry Class and we could not find someone in our school district to provide the intense help that they needed. I bought the most expensive hourly package available. However, this soon proved to be a huge mistake. The first tutor assigned to us was a University professor from India who was not familiar with the curriculum or the way it was taught; even some of the vocabulary was different. Our second tutor couldn't get either his video or his audio working, but we were still charged the hour.

I needed to find a math tutor for my 12 year old daughter and I contacted Varsity who were able to connect us with a suitable tutor. When that tutor was unable to continue the sessions, Varsity put us in touch with another tutor who wasn't right for my daughter and Varsity was able to find a replacement who was absolutely brilliant for my daughter. I booked 50 hours tuition as this was the best package for us and the fact there is flexibility to use these hours really helped. The learning platform is user friendly and although we did experience technical issues from time to time is on the whole reliable. I know it is fairly expensive but buying the package made it more affordable and the flexibility to schedule was so important for my daughter.

We have had a really good experience with Varsity Tutors for our first month. The tutors assigned to our 6th and 2nd graders have been consistent, positive, encouraging, and they create custom sessions for our kids. We have already seen a ton of growth in the past few weeks. It is way more than we have seen in the school setting.

Varsity Tutors has been the best thing for my son! He really loves his tutor and said that he feels his sessions are a lot of fun and his confidence has definitely increased. He looks forward to his sessions every week.

I am a third year university student and needed some assistance for two of my classes this last semester (transformation geometry and introduction to theoretical statistics). I was super hopeful to get some help in these courses but shockingly I was very disappointed with Varsity Tutors involvement. First of all my stats tutor was utterly useless and didn't know a single thing the entire session. This session consisted of her talking to herself and mumbling through Zoom trying to figure out the questions I gave her. And this was only the first week of classes. After the first session with her I decided to cancel this tutor and ended up dropping the course because I couldn't find any help.

We needed tutoring service for our daughter so we called to ask for information. I told the guy I spoke to that I do not want to commit to a 24-month because I need to see first if it is something that would work. The 1st 2 tutoring session did not go well. After the 1st session, I informed them I definitely do not want to continue and would like to just use the hours left. I was told they will keep the membership on pause. I told them I would like to make sure I am not committing to anything. I was assured that there was no commitment and that I could use the remaining hours at our convenience.

We were looking for study help for our high school student in Math Calculus. When we called Varsity Tutors, the representative sold us a package for 8 classes and insisted on pre-payment for the package. There was no reference to a subscription or contract or much less auto-renewal terms. We were billed about $500 for the package with "satisfaction guarantee". There was no explicit signed contract ever presented and there was no terms recorded at the point of sale. We specifically requested only 8 classes and rep agreed and said she made notes of that with verbal agreement. The tutor was knowledgeable and was helpful to my student's study prep. He was prompt and explained the lessons well though there was no set curricular structure. He was professional and did a good job.

They contacted me soon after I published this review, and issued a full refund. I appreciated their prompt response to address my concerns.

I'm a single woman in my late 30's going back to school to finish my degree. I'm paying for school out of pocket and working 30+ hours a week while taking 16 credit hours. If this sounds like you, spend your money elsewhere. There's no consideration or customer service offered. You pay monthly price for a service (whether the full amount of that service is used or not). If there are leftover available tutoring hours that have already been paid for, they're not rolled over. If an automatic, monthly, non-refundable payment of $650 doesn't bother you...by all means, have at it. But, It's far more cost effective to find a tutor through other means and not overpay. Varsity's model is just another example of the "business of education".

We had a very bad experience with Varsity Tutors. Our tutor was nice and did a good job with our daughter, but we're on different coasts so timing was really difficult. Most of the available times on our schedule didn't work for our tutor. That made it very challenging to fit in our sessions around school, homework, activities, the tutors existing schedule with other kids, etc. They tell you it is easy - it is not. They also charged us for a day when my child was sick. I used their chat customer service feature and the person scheduled time for me to talk to someone live that evening. We picked a time, I confirmed, and then sat there waiting with no call. They never bothered.

I have tried many tutors before and have not had much success. Both my Kids have been with Varsity Tutors for a Month and it has been a wonderful experience for my kids. They truly enjoyed their lessons with their tutors, their tutors are very thorough with them and their needs. The customized approach to their learning needs has been really helpful as I have never known what exactly was wrong with their reading and math challenges. The tutor will work on their strength but address their challenges each session. The review notes after each session are very thought out and keep the communication open with us the parents. I like the fact with always have a way to communicate with the tutors at all times to be flexible for any scheduled change from week to week. My kids never really enjoyed tutoring in the past, but look forward to their tutoring session every weekend and has surprised both my wife and me. Thank you.

We have been using Varsity for tutoring to prepare for SAT test. The tutor is amazing, and I am sure it will help with her SAT; The process is simple and efficient with video tutoring. The tutoring program is also flexible on timing and frequency to match our needs. Overall 5 stars!

I normally don’t reach out to sites like this for assistance because they usually take advantage of the person and overcharge and you don’t get anything out of it. That is not the case with Varsity Tutors and my instructor Señora Juliana **. I chose this site because my wife is Latina and I want to communicate with her in her language as much as she focuses to communicate in English. Señora ** is very personable and professional. Her conversational style makes it easier to learn and use the proper verbiage and pronunciation for each situation. I see the value more and more every week and it always leaves me anxious to get to the next week. The only thing I would add to the site is Spanish tutorials/lessons throughout the week to help assist with the learning plans. Other than that, I would still give Varsity Tutors a 10/10.

I signed up for a package of tutoring sessions for Adobe products. It was 4 sessions. They provided only 3 out of 4 sessions and then charged us for an additional 4 sessions although they had previously confirmed over the phone that the 4th session would be provided and no other charges would be forthcoming. Many attempts to resolve this were attempted and were met with a defensive and indifferent attitude. In the end we were charged an additional $350. Which at this point I have no hope of recovering. Utter rip off, they don't care about how they treat their clients. Do not recommend.

I had a really good experience with my tutor for my physics class. The problems came when I was done my classes and I tried to cancel my service. I emailed the and tried to contact them by phone to cancel I never got a response by email, and when I did finally get someone on the phone they said they would process the cancelation but I was charged for the next month anyways. I was also charged for a session that my tutor didn't show up for.

My 7 yr old is being tutored and has had about 4 sessions. I knew on the 1st session, her tutor was phenomenal. Her working many many years with kids ranging between K-3rd, she has more than enough experience to question something that was not put in my daughter's notes. It was my daughter has 504 and IEP. She asked me, "Does she receive any additional or extra classes, care etc?" She flat out ask, "such as a 504 or IEP?" I said yes. She mentioned it's not noted on her informational form, but I noticed... she explained why she asked. I was more than happy she asked because it was supposed to have been there. I knew from the second she picked up on it, that she is perfect. I am very happy with everything. My daughter loves working with her tutor, loves the extras that come in the package. It's been really awesome so far.

I discovered many unauthorized charges against my credit card for "tutoring my daughter". She used Varsity Tutors for 9 hours in Nov 2022. Then they charged my card $509/month ever since. Every month they zero all her billed hours (none used) and then bill for 8 others? She ok’d what she thought was a rate sheet but is instead a very long deceptive contract with hidden predatory clauses. These include 2-year non cancellable term and automatic $509 monthly billing for 8 hours that immediately expire if not used by month end. They charged so far $3,054 for 9 used (partial) hours and their position is that she must pay another $9,162 over the next 18 months. What can I say!?!?!?! UNPROFESSIONAL is an understatement.

Our regular tutor has been so helpful! My son says she clarifies concepts in far less time than he could untangle them on his own. He understands the concepts better, in less time, and his grades reflect this improvement. We have also used the instant homework help a few times. Really pleased with the tutoring. Both of my kids are having weekly English Language Arts tutoring with real teachers. My kids are not behind in English/reading, however, I am trying to ensure my children are ahead of the class, this program really helps. Both of my children really enjoy the tutors and it’s nice to have the same person each session. For us we do not have them tutor based specifically on their homework. Since these folks are actual teachers, we use the program to have them teach 1:1 the grade ahead.

I have been extremely pleased using Varsity Tutors for my second grader. From the consultation I knew I was in the right place. My consultant was excellent at analyzing what resources were best for my child and finding a tutor that is a great fit. My child loves her tutor-we have had in person tutoring in the past and she has NEVER been excited to participate. It's completely different-she enjoys learning with our tutor and does not dread her time. I also love that there are libraries of other resources and additional classes that come along with our membership.

I paid over $500 to get a Tutor for penmanship. It requires a home visit but Covid came and ruined that. I waited 2 years. They said no more home visits. Then they wouldn’t refund the $500. Major credibility fail. Online does not work for penmanship.

I spoke to her staff called Laura, she lured me into two hours per week for my son and told I have to pay upfront which I did. I had insisted on a tutor from Alberta which she lied to me that she was going to provide but to my surprise they gave me someone from Saskatoon who is not a teacher and also had difficulty in communication. It was a waste of time, I complained while they promised to give me another tutor but instead same person came back online and still could not connect, he sent me a message that he had wifi problem. We only had one hour with Varsity tutors out of over $600 cad they took from us. Laura had told me they would refund my money if I am not comfortable.

Our experience with Varsity Tutors is positive. Upon registering, we were promptly assigned to tutors matching our needs. The tutoring sessions are recorded, which is great for 1) the child to refer to the session when needed, and 2) for parents to see progress and follow up. Varsity Tutors is a great place to learn very intriguing subjects. I mostly have done classes with Reed **, a Ph.D. meteorologist and it was great! Learning can be fun. Don't forget that! Some classes are only an hour or less which makes learning not only fun but quick. It is worth it to even take only one class a week. :)

Varsity tutors did not provide the service they specifically advertised and committed to me when discussing signup and membership: I would have a choice of tutors emailed to me, all tutors have college degrees and experience in teaching 1st grade reading, that I would be paired with someone who is available at the time of my choosing. Our family gave them 5 opportunities to pair us with a tutor that fit this criteria and they repeatedly failed. Of the 5 tutors we were paired with within 2 weeks, none fit our very simple criteria of being a college graduate with experience in teaching the subject we were looking for and availability to teach. We had a single poor experience with actually engaging in a 1:1 tutoring session after multiple pairings and 7 calls to Varsity Tutors office.

2/28 Update: Varsity Tutors knows how to fix a bad experience. Thanks to the amazing manager from the client experience department, my issue is resolved with the hours reinstated. The follow throughs have been great. Now my son can get the high quality tutoring that he was used to...A big thank you!

My son is 5 and loves his tutoring lessons. The best decision we made for him to find a fun way to learn in such young age. Lessons are virtually which helps our son even with PC skills which are needed at school, too.

The sales rep misinformed me about tuition fee. I was told $529 was for 6 months and found out the next day that I was charged the entire $529 for the first month. After incessant calls and follow ups, they finally cancelled my membership and sent me an email that I was ineligible for a refund. My daughter did not have a single session with them but they basically asked me to read my terms of membership and that I would not get my money back. I am livid and will do whatever it takes to get my refund back. They misrepresent and when challenged, push us against the wall. I have no recourse at this time but I plan to take legal action against them. It is no longer about the money but about principles.

When the client experience department reached out I was 100% sure they were going to give me the runaround and offer me expired coupons to make up for it. What did happen was actually quite beautiful and I was brought to tears shortly after. I spoke with what I can only imagine to be an angel (not kidding at all). This angel was named Teresa and this was by far the best experience I've ever had in my life when dealing with disputed matters.

I got engaged with the lesson and spectacular results. Also, the tutor's style of teaching is really interesting. At the end of the lesson, I learned specific details that my friends don't know. I highly recommend working with Varsity Tutors.

They hold you into a 6 month contract, even if you don't want to use the service. My daughter found the tutors not useful at all. Online study content is bad. You can get much better content for a fraction of the price from IXL or completely free from Khan academy. Don't buy from this company and stay away.

The tutor that my 8th grader has for algebra is fantastic!!! He has gained so much confidence since working with her. She explains everything so well!! S's confidence was shaken after failing a unit and our tutor has spent so much time getting her back up to speed. She also made sure to connect with her personally about sewing and other hobbies -- even though sessions are remote, she is getting to know the WHOLE kid. She is also great at keeping parents in the loop. I have received texts, emails, and really thorough summaries about their sessions less than 30 min after they conclude. She also asked me to send the teacher's syllabus so she could be totally plugged into what S was learning. Amazing and worth every penny. They work on phonics, strategies, fluency, and have some fun. My daughter really enjoys the time and is making great improvement! My daughter took an assessment evaluation l, the staff asked me questions about her needs and we were assigned a tutor. The tutor was pair to help her with both Algebra, Chemistry and then we found out he is qualified to help her in 10th grade Honors English.

My child was told in second grade that she will fail 3rd grade, by her teacher several times. This broke my heart but also made her and I determined to prove him wrong! When I initially called in I was in tears, the agent was very patient and consoling. We signed my daughter up for Math and English tutoring. She was struggling with reading which affected her math. She has the most patience with her but also can read how my daughter is feeling throughout the class and makes adjustments when needed.

My parents bought 50 hours for tutoring one year ago. We were told they would not expire. Before they were set to expire; we were called by the head of sales. I told the head of sales that I only need 50 hours as 100 was too many, but she convinced us to buy 100 hours as I could use them whenever, and they would not expire without prior notice. Therefore, my parents purchased the 100 hours. The head of sales told me that Varsity Tutors would call me when my hours were about to expire. Because this platform had really helped me, my parents agreed, and purchased $5000 worth of hours.

I have called to have a physics tutor for my son who is in first-year university. The tutor was totally unprofessional joining the meet more than half an hour late, not only that, he was helping another kid and my son can hear them. He keep joining and disconnecting several times. Since then I have been trying to call them back to cancel my membership and no one answers, I have been trying to reach them for the past 3 days, and I have left a call-back request three times as well, I emailed them and texted them and NO ONE ANSWERS ME.
