My daughter finished her classes in early 12/25 at FSW. Varsity Tutors charged my credit card $349 on 12/22/25 for a 30-day subscription ending in 1/22/25. When I called for a refund, they said they could not refund the charge. My daughter doesn't start her program until August 2025. Trying to deal with my credit card company to start a dispute. This company is unreal. Stay away!!

These guys are predatory, be careful when you sign up. The tutoring and system were fine, but they will sign you up without telling you for a monthly plan - which in my case meant an additional $500! - and when you call them, they refuse to issue a refund (I'm sure it was buried in the terms of reference, but the person who sold me the plan did not tell me it was recurring....which is incredibly unethical). And then give you no ability to speak to anyone else to contest it. Absolutely criminal.

BEWARE of Varsity Tutors' "no refunds" policy! My son graduated from college in August of this year. Come November, we received a bill from Varsity Tutors. Thinking this was a simple error, I contacted the company. It was not an error, according to the account manager who answered my call, but an automatic renewal. They could cancel my account as of December, but they offer no refunds, so we had 4 hours of tutoring available for use. I pointed out that my son -- and youngest child -- having graduated, we have no need of 4 hours of tutoring. The account manager repeated that they offer no refunds. I asked to speak to a manager, and he said that they don't transfer calls, either.

SCAM! If you are looking for tutor go with a traditional route of One-on-One. Varsity took a prepayment $380 for 4 sessions and promised us a tutor assigned in two day. That didn't happen. Then when we finally got a tutor, she never showed for the session while I went back and forth with a bot!!!! I requested my money back and now I am told they don't give refunds!!!! Save your money and your frustration. Stay away from Varsity Tutors.

I paid $349 monthly for one child. About $700 for 2. If they have your bank card information, they will use it. Don't expect a refund. Eight times in total, I have had to call, Because a session that was supposed to be ready and was not. Or it was simply unavailable. Having to stop working to speak with people to troubleshoot. Missed sessions. Having my son with special needs who thrives off of a schedule, sitting around nervous, anxious, waiting to see his tutor multiple times a month.

In September 2025 I signed up for 4 tutoring sessions for my son. In October 2025 when the 4 sessions were over my son told me that he will need more sessions. I called Varsity Tutors in October and signed up for 4 tutoring sessions which ended ok 11/8/2025. Today 11/13/2035 my PayPal account was automatically billed for $314. I called Varsity Tutor and they stated that I signed up for a membership which I didn't. They said that I was supposed to give them 24 hours notice to cancel a membership that I never signed up for. I requested a full refund, but they told me that they won't reimbursed me. I filed a complaint with my credit card company to get my money back because my son will take the exam this Saturday 11/15/2025 and doesn't need any more tutoring sessions. They didn't even send an email about membership plan.

I do not recommend Varsity Tutors. We signed up and used their services for SAT tutoring. My daughter indicated that they lessons weren't tailored to her level. We then tried to cancel and the only way to cancel is to call. But when you call and they learn you are canceling you are put on hold and then disconnect the call. I never did get through to a person. I had to go through my credit card company to cancel the membership.

Filed report with my credit card and will file further report with bbb.

Terrible company. First tutor was a no call no show. When the session finally happened he told the student that the work he was being given in his introductory to Statistics class was advanced (and too hard for him). Got a new tutor who has to Google everything and take a full hour to get through 2 questions. Even worse, they mention nothing of it being a subscription, when signing you up. Then when you get the surprise $640 renewal they tell you it can't be reversed.

SCAMMERS! I was sold a 4 hour, 1 month package even though we didn't need that much. I made it very clear that we won't not need further help as it was May of 2025 and it was only to prep for a final AP test. The salesperson understood and advised that our service would be available through June 8, 2025 and SAT items would be always available. I was charged AGAIN on June 9, 2025. I contacted her to ask why and she never responded. I called 3 times and no response. I tried to cancel other times as well and continued to be billed. They are stealing from people with no remorse. They have stolen $1396.00 from me already and now say they will cancel our account due to the fact I was recording the call.

I was unhappy with the first two tutors. We had several days of no tutorials. Each time they looked for a new tutor. I made them aware that much older, slow speaking and teaching would not work but they continued to schedule that way. They renewed my subscription $639 and told me I had 5 unused hours that could not be carried over. I am now having that issue escalated and stuck paying for another month that I do not want. I'm told my subscription ended yesterday (Sunday). Not easy to navigate to the best tutor, even though I was very clear when registering.

It's a company of scam artists. My husband booked four classes with Varisity tutors back in February. When he booked them he told the worker on call he wanted to take four classes and that's it. He would book more afterwards by himself if he needed it. Not ONCE did the worker on the phone mention it was a subscription. Not once!!! We only happened to notice that they were still charging us by chance months later and immediately cancelled (horrible customer support that you need to CALL to cancel by the way, that needs to be a click on your website!). They refuse to give us our money back and told us it's our fault for not realising it's a subscription WHEN THEY NEVER MENTIONED IT WAS ONE! Turns out they also pay their tutors pennies compared to what they charge students for lessons. I will advise everybody I know to stay far away from this website.

We were told that Varsity tutors not only vetted all their tutors, but provided a personalized tutoring experience when it came to 1:1 SAT prep. During their sessions the tutor, Darian, told her to skip over the questions she struggled with and only reinforced what she already knew. They then no showed for their last session for the day before the test. When I called to complain the company, they basically said it was my fault for not reporting the issue sooner. 100% believe Varsity Tutors was a waste of time and money.

On Sept 28, 2025 I enrolled my daughter over the phone after the sales rep tailored a tutoring program for her needs: 8 hours of SAT tutoring to be spread between then and Oct 3rd as her SAT test is scheduled for Oct 4th. My needs were perfectly clear from the beginning of the call and she quoted me $729 CAD for those 8 hours. She NEVER mentioned this had to be a monthly subscription that was going to be an auto-pay each month, so much to my dismay and surprise when my credit card was charged a couple of days ago for another $729.
I immediately called their customer service, explained the situation and they said they will take it to their escalation department as they were the ones who could provide the refund. They never got back to me, so I just called again today and they told me that they wouldn't be processing a refund as per their terms of agreement. I explained to them over and over again that their sales rep NEVER told me it was a mandatory monthly membership, but to no avail. They don't care about the deceitful tactics of their sales rep. They lied to me because that sales rep confirmed to me that this was a one time charge. She knew I wasn't interested in tutoring after Oct 3rd. How can they omit information and then expect the client to take all responsibility? I shouldn't be held accountable for the lack of transparency from their sales reps when securing the sale of the program.

I signed up for tutoring for my son and it’s been a nightmare. From being overcharged on day one, to never receiving the promised assessment, to getting the runaround from IT after they set up my account wrong — nothing was ever resolved. When I finally asked for a refund (having never had a single session), they flat out refused. Meanwhile, I was even getting texts from the tutor with no way to respond. This company feels like a total scam. Save yourself the stress and your money — I do NOT recommend them.

When I signed up with Varsity Tutors, I was explicitly promised that a tutor would be matched to my daughter based on specific criteria I provided. I agreed to try the service for one month only—four sessions total—and made it clear, multiple times, that I did not want a renewing subscription. The tutor they assigned was a poor fit, and after just two sessions, my daughter chose not to continue. I accepted the loss of the remaining sessions and walked away, under the assumption that I had fulfilled my one-month agreement. Not once did anyone follow up for feedback or offer support—despite assurances that they would.
Three months later, I discovered that Varsity Tutors had enrolled me in an an ongoing subscription against my request and had continued charging my card for services we were not using and never agreed to. When I contacted them to cancel and request a refund, I was met with a flat refusal. This is not just bad customer service—it’s predatory business practice, bordering on fraud. I expect a full refund for the unauthorized charges and immediate confirmation that my account is canceled. At the very least, Varsity Tutors should uphold the standards and integrity they claim to represent.

There was no need to continue paying for something I wasn’t going to use at that time. I was given videos to review to go back over information. Now I’m unable to access them without a membership. I was told I could if I reactivate my membership for some class I don’t need. So if pay them another 350-400 dollars I can look at the classes I paid for already. Never was I told this in the beginning. The response in a very ugly way, you need a new membership. Careful with Varsity, get all the information upfront.

I would not recommend Varsity Tutors. The first tutor my daughter “matched” with was constantly changing the time of their sessions or would simply not show up. When they did show up, they had a very difficult time explaining the concepts in a way my daughter could understand due to a language barrier. This was particularly frustrating because she had a very tight schedule in which to prepare for her ACT test. Basically, a month wasted! We requested a tutor change twice before they actually “matched” her with a different tutor.
In addition, be sure to read the subscription fine print! They are very deceptive and dishonest in their subscription details. In our phone conversation, it was very clear that we were signing up for a 12-week period. They were sure to know the exact date of her test and made it seem there was a plan that was tailored to meet that specific test deadline, and services would discontinue at that time! NOT TRUE!!!
The gal we talked with seemed so clear about this plan that I didn’t see the need to read every detail of the contract we were signing (she made it seem like a simple formality). However, just to be sure, we spoke with my daughter’s tutor on “her last day of tutoring,” and they verbally confirmed there would be no more sessions. I have a recording of the conversation.
However, I was charged for another 2 months of sessions after the test was taken. My daughter did not even log on! When I called to request a refund for the services that clearly were not used, they blamed the issue on me and politely told me they can’t control what tutors tell students. In the future, I will be using a service who are less deceptive in their pricing and takes responsibility for their and their employee' mistakes.

We wanted to to have a great experience for my son who is preparing for high school. He has some severe learning difficulties and needs the help. The cost is considerably more than a local in-person tutor, but we opted for this because of all the other resources available that anyone in the family can use. We ended up not being able to use much of any of the other resources; despite the breadth of offerings, there wasn't much of any interest or use to my kids. The downside of the services came with one tutor who chatted with my son about video games and movies for about half the session. Then he no-showed a session and still billed us.
We switched to another tutor who no-showed the first session, had a wonderful session the next day, but then no-showed again the third session. Because hours don't roll over to the next month, even if you don't use all your hours you still pay for a full month of hours the next month. We canceled to hire a local in-person tutor. And be advised, read the membership agreement carefully. Payments are non-refundable.
