Be aware -- the tutoring packages you purchase prior to meeting any tutors are NON REFUNDABLE even if you try one session and it just doesn't seem to be a fit for your child. They will cancel your "membership" if you request -- but refuse a refund of unused sessions. Do not purchase a package until you know it will work for your student as you will not get a refund.

Wow what a scam. I had a tutor who rescheduled or cancel each session I booked. Eventually I requested a new tutor and got reassigned but would not be able to complete my hours before the new payment schedule. I spent all day on the phone to get my hours reinstated, only for the platform to cancel my tutoring and lose my hours completely. I got 50% of the service I paid for. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Target Test Prep, Princeton Review, Manhattan Prep are better resources.

I signed my granddaughter (I have custody) up at the beginning of May. I had two sessions all month. I asked for feedback after the first session, but what I got was vague. In the second session, she was sick. When we proceeded with the makeup session, technical difficulties arose. The tutor said she didn't know what to do and said we could meet next week. The following week, my granddaughter had her session. Again, vague updates. My granddaughter requested the tutoring, but tonight she cried and said she was not comfortable, so I called to cancel. At this point, I was not happy with the service. I was told it was fine. She would be cancelled.
Directly after the call, I received an email stating she would be cancelled on July 2, 2025, I asked why it said July 2, 2025. He said they had just billed me today. I told the customer services representative that I don't feel it's right to bill me when I already paid a high price for two sessions, and had cancelled. He informed me I would not get a refund, that it "was in the fine print." I am shocked that a company that sells itself as "one of the best" would take $249 for a service that was cancelled. SO BE AWARE! I am out $498 for TWO SESSIONS!!! I am on a fixed budget and get no support for my granddaughter. I find it disgusting and in poor taste that you have to take money from someone when services were definitely not rendered!!!!

Extremely Disappointed – Misleading Charges and No Accountability. I’m incredibly dismayed by my experience with Varsity Tutors. I was charged for 14 hours of tutoring but only used 7 hours total. Despite purchasing a 4-hour package upfront, I was inexplicably charged in the same billing period for an additional 2 hours—even though I had only taken 2 hours of sessions that month. This overbilling occurred two months in a row, and despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, no refund or credit has been provided.
I have lost over $600 due to billing practices that feel misleading and predatory. Varsity Tutors has offered only a templated, dismissive response (screenshot attached), refusing to acknowledge or address the clear discrepancy in hours used versus hours billed. This has been a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience. I expected professionalism and transparency, and instead I’ve been left feeling misled and taken advantage of. I’ve since canceled my membership to prevent any further unauthorized charges.

My experience with the actual tutors has been excellent! The Varsity admin side is disorganized. I was charged after cancelling, the tutor-matching algorithm often requires cycling through 3–5 tutors before finding the right fit and there’s a clear breakdown in communication between departments. I would not recommend based on the administrative experience.

Please be careful if you use Varsity Tutors learning program. They are NOT transparent. They sign you up for a renewal subscription. We canceled with our tutor and was then billed an additional month. When we called, we were told by a rude woman that she is a "senior" such and such title and there's no way for a refund since we should have canceled yesterday. Scam in my opinion.

I wanted to take language lessons for a trip later this year. I was up front that I was looking to explore options in tutoring while taking Varsity for the first month. At the end of that time, I found an option that was better suited for my needs and looked to cancel my subscription. The cancellation was fairly straightforward, but I saw that I was pre-billed for an additional month of time and requested a refund for this which they refused. They cited their terms and conditions as support. Pre-billing for this re-fusing a reasonable refund request and hiding the support for it in the terms and conditions is unethical. Bare minimum a policy like this should be far better communicated than what it was in my experience.

I changed my 1 star to a 4 star because Varsity Tutors did reach out to me and offered a full refund, which restored my faith in them. The client experience team member that reached out to us was very kind and courteous. When my daughter needs more services, we may even engage with them again. My only suggestion is to ask lots of questions up front in order to thoroughly understand all that they have to offer in between each of your private lessons.

Varsity Tutors promised us 4 Spanish lessons, but we only got 2, because for the first 2 weeks THEY couldn't find a tutor for our time slot, and we only needed one month. That's turned into $170/hour.

Updated on 05/03/2025: We seem to have come to an impasse. While they have offered to refund me money for hours they did not notify me that I went over, they have offered no resolution for there being no study material, etc. for their students that are studying for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. They gave me documents to sign for the refund that comes with the stipulation that I amend (give five stars) or remove my reviews but I will not sign until the underlying issue of no study materials being present on Varsity Tutors’ site gets resolved.
Original Review: I signed up with Varsity Tutors based on their flashy promises: “Students have access to thousands of practice tests, diagnostic tests, flashcards, and daily questions across 150+ subjects.” They even brag that “students have answered more than 40 million problems to date.” Sounds like a great resource—until you realize it’s all smoke and mirrors, at least for anyone preparing for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
For FE prep, none of these resources exist. There are no practice tests, no diagnostic exams, no flashcards—nothing remotely useful on their platform. I had to go out and purchase all of my practice material from third-party vendors just to make any meaningful progress. Even my tutor, who was otherwise fine, told me point-blank that Varsity Tutors doesn’t have the material and advised me to buy it elsewhere. So what exactly did I pay Varsity Tutors for?
And it gets worse. You’re not notified when you’re about to go over the tutoring hours you purchased. There’s no alert, no heads-up from the tutor, no email, nothing. They just let you go over and then hit you with an unexpected bill at the end. It feels like a deliberate money grab—one that reeks of shady business practices. Instead of focusing on helping students, they seem far more interested in squeezing every possible dollar out of you. Bottom line: Varsity Tutors is misleading, overpriced, and ethically questionable. If you’re preparing for the FE exam (or any serious professional exam), save yourself the frustration and go with a company that’s actually invested in your success—not just your wallet.

If I could give zero stars, I would. After several months with the company of four-day-a-week tutoring sessions, I learned my son's membership was cancelled on a Sat through an email at 4:30 pm on Sat or so. I immediately called and spoke to someone around 4:35 pm EST. Gave them a new cc and let them know around 2 am I got a charge from that cc that I didn't authorize, and when I contacted the credit card account immediately at 2am today, they had to cancel the card. Today was the 29th and I wasn't due to be charged for the monthly tutoring again until the 11th.
I was called back a little before 5pm and spoke to Kimberly, who told me they were requesting to reinstate his account but the manager said no initially because Varsity Tutors claim I said the Varsity Tutors charge was fraudulent and Varsity Tutors couldn't reinstate the account if I said Varsity Tutors had a fraudulent charge. That never happened. The account had been closed for 14 hours already by the time Varsity Tutors tried to charge my card. I sent an email confirming this to this account already with that time stamp. I told Kimberly I would contact Chase to see what they could email me.
I contacted Chase, and they said they couldn't email me anything, so I three way called with Chase (they recorded this also) and Varsity Tutors (who also recorded the call) and told both sides they were also speaking to each other with my permission and to ask anything they needed to in order to ensure my son was taken care of. I spoke with Ebony - who originally tried reinstate him at a charge of $600 something for 4 hours, not my $479 I've been charged for months for 8 hours. She finally got me taken care of- so my son now has membership again, or so I thought.
Why was my card being charged on March 29 when my billing cycle isn't until April 11? - I did NOT TELL CHASE YOUR CHARGE WAS FRAUDULENT- however, isnt this actually an unauthorized charge 13 to 14 days prior to a necessary charge monthly due date of April 11 - so AN ACTUAL FRAUDULENT CHARGE without authorization? What is happening? Ebony said she'd look into this and get back to me within 24 hours go by. We hung up at 5:47 pm on Saturday.
On Sunday, I found out all his upcoming tutoring sessions were cancelled. I have called repeatedly to get this dealt with. I went to Chase directly trying to deal with this- I did NOT claim your charge was fraudulent, but they can only send something in the mail to me, not an email. I told Varsity Tutors I will forward that to you when I receive it in 7-10 days.
HOWEVER, YOU ALREADY CHARGED ME $479 again...but now are claiming he doesn't have a membership? Seriously what do you want from me to prove this? Just got off the phone with you and you said even though Chase will contact you directly in 24 to 48 hours to confirm it wasn't me- you still won't be able to reinstate his account. I have no words. You clearly do not care about children. This wasn't my fault and I've done everything on my end to prove I did NOTHING to cause this. I now waiting on my $479 charge to be reinstated to my account. I will forward you the letter when I receive it. I look forward to your response.

My spouse was trying to decide between using Varsity Tutors to study for three certification exams necessary for his chosen field and going to a 3 week course out of town. He was assured by Varsity Tutors that they had a "pass guarantee" like the in person course and on top of that was told our HS age daughter would receive tutoring as well under the family plan. He paid the $1,800 (which was only about $200 less than the in person class), signed my daughter up for Spanish and Math tutoring and asked that they find him a tutor for his needs. After a month with no ADEQUATE tutor for him, he tried to cancel the program. They talked him into giving them a chance to find a tutor.
They did find a tutor, however, they had neglected to tell him that he had paid for a set number of hours and that our daughters' sessions had used almost all of them. We were flabbergasted! They never said anything about a certain number of hours being shared or we would have never gone with this program because it would not match the needs. When we discovered this, of course we requested a refund because there would have been no way for them to have a pass guarantee with so few hours available, never mind sharing the hours. They have refused and not made a good faith effort to rectify this situation. To say we are dissatisfied is an understatement. We do not recommend the company whatsoever, having nothing to do with the tutors and the quality of their instruction. Save your money, hassle, and time and look elsewhere.

I relied on Varsity Tutors for years, and the service was excellent—until they introduced a membership model. I adapted, but problems escalated when my oldest son graduated and my younger son faced health challenges. I was assured we could pause tutoring and resume with a flexible monthly plan—no long-term commitment and the ability to cancel anytime.
1. Frequent Tutor Cancellations: My son was left without consistent support.
2. Billing Without Service: From December to March, they charged me without providing a single session. I had requested pauses and makeup lessons, yet they billed me anyway.
3. False Promises & Refusal of Refund: Initially, they promised a refund, then denied it—falsely claiming I “didn’t cancel.” A representative dismissively told me their policy is “use it or lose it” and refused to escalate my case.
This is unacceptable. Varsity Tutors breached trust, withheld services while taking payment, and refused accountability. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for unethical business practices. I strongly urge others to reconsider using their services. Varsity Tutors must refund all months they charged me without providing services.

First of all this service is really expensive and there is no guarantee they will actually help improve your grade. I signed up and got a tutor for organic chemistry using this service. My tutor not only did not help me get a better grade on my next exam he was going over our scheduled hour time and I was getting charged on my credit card for that extra time without even knowing. My card was automatically charged for another months service and when I tried to cancel they wouldn't give me my money back. I told them since I didn’t do better on my exam using their tutor I was having to drop my class then retake it again the next semester.
Since my card was already charged for 4 more sessions they said I can use those credits when I retake the class. I’m now retaking the class and now they are saying the credits cannot be reinstated and I was charged for a whole months service I was never given. Completely disappointed in this service and all they care about is getting your money and not helping you at all!!

Never again. Spent a small fortune. The tutor was always yawning and saying, "Ummm." But we gave him the benefit of the doubt. My kid did practice test and tons of reviews… My kid didn’t even score what he needed to get the 75% on the Florida Bright scholarship. So much for great results.

They will happily take your money without providing the service they advertise. Many of their tutors are located in India or the East Coast, which makes scheduling very challenging resulting in not being able to schedule the sessions you are paying for. The tutors sometimes do not confirm the session until the very last minute or just ignore it instead of rejecting it so you can find another time/tutor. Their online scheduling system is useless, the scheduling support, which is via text message is also useless. They send you to figure out schedules directly with your tutor, but the tutors and the schedulers do not communicate, so when one might say your session is confirmed, the other says the opposite.
I ended up canceling my membership, they did not want to get a bad review, so they offered me to cancel but give me still the two sessions I had paid for but not received this month. They acted super nice and scheduled the sessions just to cancel them a few days later and leaving me with no way to reschedule them. I call this theft; they took my money but did not provide the service they promised. I have a trail of text messaged trying and failing to schedule my paid sessions. The quality of the tutors is a wide range, and you pretty much have to get lucky to get a good match. My son had a couple of sessions with two very good tutors, but they did not allow us to schedule again with them. Instead, they matched us with a tutor that just had him doing his math problems by himself, not explanation, no interaction, silence for 1 h. I can have my son doing his homework next to me for free. A tutor should be engaged. I am placing a formal complaint to get my money back. I am giving them 2, instead of one, stars because of the one very good tutor we had.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Varsity Tutor. I signed up for their 48-hour tutoring membership but only used 4 hours and 15 minutes of it before realizing I no longer needed the service due to a career change. When I contacted them to cancel my membership and request a refund for the unused hours, they flat-out refused, citing their terms and conditions.
It’s frustrating and unreasonable that they would hold onto the full payment for a service I barely used, especially under these circumstances. I understand having policies, but a bit of flexibility and understanding could go a long way in making customers feel valued. This is not how you build trust or loyalty with customers. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. Their rigid policies and lack of understanding make it clear they care more about rules than customer satisfaction. Beware before signing up!

The worst experience with a tutoring organization. Please do not use Varsity Tutors. First, they called me, because I went to their website made an account but didn't purchase anything. I was falsely led to believe that they could find me help. It took almost over a month to get help, I was still being charged. They credited me "free tutoring sessions", which were useless. Two of the customer service representatives said they would call me back, they never did. One representative, said that he would stop the charges on my credit card, he lied and didn't follow through with what he had promised. I was charged 318.00 CAD. I asked for a refund, as I had no use for the service, and felt lied to. I received $224.00 CAD of my money back (for a service I did not use). If you do use Varsity Tutors, get everything in writing, and never trust what a customer service representative tells you.

We had an awful experience. Signed up and was not able to utilize the full 8 hours in the subscription. Hours do not roll over which was not explained. Then an automatic charge the next month even though the previous month had not been utilized. Initial experience tutor spent one hour on a first year calculus problem. Spent a lot of time on hold trying to cancel. No confirmation. Their SMS team responds. Expensive and very inflexible. No refunds and poorly skilled tutors. Will never use again. Just awful.

I needed help to pass the Series 65 exam. I was self taught and had failed the exam 2x before I hired Varsity Tutors. My teacher for my class was EXCELLENT, I got a syllabus and felt like I was back in University. My Tutor was strategy oriented and taught me how to attack the exam. I passed the third time around with VT! Money back guarantee as well! The absolute best.

They told me I’ll get one month trial and then it will off, but after a month I saw it charged me 310$ without my permission! They take your money like a frauds and scammers! Avoid them at any cost, when I tried to get my money back they said no refunds, even though I didn’t took any lessons in this month!!!!

The tutor I was paired with was amazing and very helpful. The best part, he was very patient with me as I am an adult student. Now the biggest down fault is their billing! Every monthly charge I received was almost double what I was quoted originally. I was scheduled for two sessions per week. What I didn't know was the tutor was only able to bill for min of 1.5 hrs presentation and I received a $400.00 extra charge on top of my original $550.00 monthly billing. I thought the value was extremely low for what you paid. I contacted Varsity Tutoring and received no compensation towards my billing and was told that is the way it is. So If I can offer any advise beware of what you are getting for what you paid for.

I decided to try Varsity Tutors after self studying for the MCAT for a few months and I'm so glad I did! My tutor was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the topics I needed help in. He was very patient and broke down the concepts into smaller chunks of information that made it easier to comprehend. I sent him my questions that I wanted to review the next tutoring session ahead of time and he was always on time and prepared for our sessions. 10/10 would recommend!

I recently sought help for SAT prep and was disappointed with the experience provided by Varsity Tutors. Initially, they offered a month-to-month subscription with the option to cancel if we weren't satisfied. However, they failed to mention that it was an auto-billing subscription buried in the fine print of the tutoring agreement. To make matters worse, there was no information on their website's account page about when we would be billed again. To add to the frustration, when I mentioned that I only needed a few lessons on the initial call, Varsity Tutors offered a package, which I accepted. However, they did not disclose that this package would automatically enroll me in their subscription service.
To my surprise, I discovered that I was being charged from my bank statement without Varsity Tutors notifying me of the charge. Upon contacting customer service, they promised that someone would contact me within 72 hours to address the issue and a potential refund. However, that never happened. After a second call, I was told to expect a response within 48 hours and was emailed that a refund was unlikely. Instead of a refund, I was promised a credit. Weeks later, I followed up on the credit and was told it had never been issued. Overall, I feel misled and disappointed by Varsity Tutors' lack of transparency and poor communication. I would not recommend this tutoring service to anyone.

It's like a gym membership, they don't let you out. They don't let you cancel online and they don't answer the phone. I signed up for my son, they started scheduling sessions without asking me, they started charging before I had accepted any sessions. It's a scam.

The tutoring was fine but it was a nightmare to cancel the membership. You have to call a number where you are on hold for 20 minutes plus. And the only way to sign-up is for a renewing membership. So if you don't call and cancel it will auto-renew. It's obviously the case that Varsity Tutors wants to make it as difficult as possible to cancel and thereby have the membership roll forward and generate unearned revenue for themselves. Very bad faith and bad behavior towards your customers!

We tried for three weeks to get a consistent tutor for our daughter. We only needed twice a week from 3:30pm to 4:30pm EST. Two different people gave us credits because of them dropping the ball. We are now trying to get our money back after being charged when we had multiple free sessions. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! FIND A LOCAL TUTOR.

Our 7 year of has been struggling to read. In addition to the school’s supplemental reading program, and 3 months of weekly sessions from Institute of Learning Development, nothing seemed to be working. Varsity tutor’s unique 1:1 tutoring with the interactive platform helps keep our daughter engaged better than any other strategy tried so far. The reception/intake staff did a great job helping identify a good match for our daughter. Saturday mornings work best for our family so it’s nice to have an option that fits our schedule and we don’t have to leave the comfort of our home. We have no intentions of leaving Varsity Tutors and are so grateful to have found them!

You’re not only getting your hours for tutoring, but there’s also other resources that you can check out anytime like group tutoring. Varsity Tutors is a money-making scam. I signed up for 4 session package. My daughter did not even use all the sessions. Unknown to me they converted my package into a monthly subscription and continued to bill my credit card, with NO MONTHLY STATEMENTS BEING SENT TO ME at all. When I discovered the problem they refused to issue a refund for all the unused monthly hours. How can they do this? They should have been sending me monthly statements so I could see what was happening. I was totally unaware. I have filed a complaint with the BBB.

My wife signed our daughter up for a math tutor with Varsity Tutors. Our understanding was this was for 2 sessions a week for 4 weeks for a total cost of $300. Nov.8 was supposedly the last tutor session of which there was 5 hours remaining. Saturday, Nov. 9 Varsity Tutors withdrew $300 from our account which left us with a $2 balance. We live in central GA. In the past month we have had a devastating hurricane and severe flooding this previous week which has shut down parts of our roads and bridges. When my daughter called to inquire about the charge the representative was aggressive and pushy, refusing to discuss a refund or even why we were billed to begin with, and to top it of was trying to sell more tutoring.
So I sit here, with no money to go to work with the inevitable domino of overdraft fees that are coming because of our banks drafting policies and it's a banking holiday wondering what am I going to do. The worst thing is the fact that my daughter understands our financial situation and she thinks this is her fault, that is why I am writing this review. So take it for what it's worth, I hope you can learn from my dealings with Varsity Tutors and make a more informed decision.

We are new to Varsity Tutors. My son loves it. His tutor seems to be very nice, patient, and helpful. She simplified Algebra 1 so he can understand it. We haven't tried any of the other features. I like that I pay month-to-month instead of having to sign contracts and large down payments.

I was charged for 8hrs classes, but they did not complete the tutoring hours, and for whatever classes happened, after every 1 or 2 classes (each class of 30min) I got new tutor for my child. I complained multiple times, but I got only promises from management, but no action. No one cares at all. I wasted my non-refundable money, $480. Never coming back here.

I enjoy the different ways to learn Spanish with this service. My tutor is great, and I also appreciate the AI chatbot since it allows me to ask anything. This platform offers more real-world learning compared to just using what I have been using which is Duolingo. I'm starting to feel more confident in my comprehension of the language, which is exciting because I've always wanted to learn Spanish!

When I signed up on 8/11, as was discussed on the phone with me, I was signing up for 2 months of tutoring. Based on the day those sessions started, I figured that meant they would go until mid October. He and I had discussed that I wanted 12 hours per month that would be 2 sessions per week at 1.5 hours long. He never told me that the month meant a calendar month for $750. Given that we discussed the timing of 2 sessions per week, it would not even have been possible to use all 12 hours in the month of August. See how that doesn't even make sense? I would never have paid $750 for 12 hours that had to be used in half a month. I would have delayed until September to get two full months. So, August ended up forfeiting 4 hours I was told yesterday. No one in their right mind would do that knowingly.
Now, second issue where someone could have cleared all this up but did not. The tutor we were assigned only set up one session per week originally. That was an error or your part. When I called somewhere around mid-August to inquire about that, I asked how the two missed sessions would be made up? I didn't want to have to cram my daughter with 3 sessions a week and asked if they could just be added to the end and I was told that would be fine, that they would note that on your end. Please listen to that conversation also. Why would I think this was on a calendar month having been told that? After "reviewing" they refused to make it right by refunding me the extra month that I had not used yet and my only option was to try and use those hours to try and get something for my money stolen from me. And I'm still forfeiting hours because my daughter's test is tomorrow and it wasn't possible to use all the hours.

Original Review: I used Varsity Tutors for about 3 months when I was studying for the LSAT. They were great at first, I had high expectations because it wasn't cheap. My tutor was nice, but arrived at the session late often and in the end I got the same score as my first test. It felt like $1,500 down the drain, and when I followed up with my tutor and asked a question (which he told me I could do), he never responded. Just today, two months after I called and asked for a pause on my membership, I was charged $630 for a service I wasn't using. I called and asked for a refund but I was denied. Feels like a waste of time with rude customer service and a lack of a refund. Very disappointing, do not recommend.

Do not use this service!!! Varsity Tutors is the worst. The tutor fell asleep on two (2) sessions with my daughter. The replacement tutor was distracted and unfocused. When it comes to cancelling the service, good luck. They do everything in their power to not cancel and continue to charge you. Save you and your family aggravation. Do not use this service.

Varsity Tutors did reach out privately after and was able to assist. The woman I spoke with was very helpful and was able to refund my money to me, I greatly appreciate the follow up. Total scam, money grab. I bought 4 tutoring sessions (for one month) and have been continuously billed for 4 months while not using their services. Not once did someone explain to me to cancel. I just went through my emails and found only 1 email that said $340/monthly and that my visa will be billed monthly. I have not been using their services for months and all they were willing to do is provide me 1 month 50% off. This is targeted for students, obviously I have limited money right now and they are cheating their system. Do not recommend.

Varsity Tutors checked on me regularly to see how the lessons were going. They helped me switch tutors so that I could take lessons in time increments that worked best with my schedule. They are very available via chat or phone call and are ready to answer questions about using the lesson platform. There are also notes after every lesson that you can download to reference later. They have very high quality customer service!

Varsity tutors has been a great ACT prep for our son. He has always been a great student with 4.0 or higher gpa but didn’t get the ACT score that we hoped for after taking the test. We knew we had to do something to help him learn some of the tricks to taking the test. He went up 4 points on his test score after 6 tutoring sessions. He takes the test again at the end of this month. I’m excited to see if his score will go again.

DON'T DO IT!!! Wish I could give them no stars. Hired them for a summer engineering class. Told the person on the phone that I only needed them for 2 months because it was an 8 week class. Gave me a supposed PhD candidate who couldn't do the sophomore/junior level homework. Asked for a new tutor ASAP. Took them well over a week to find someone and by that point, the class was already over. What they don't tell you is that even though you say you only need them for 8 weeks, they will continue to bill you month after month. And good luck getting them to agree to cancel the membership. Didn't think I was ever going to get off the phone. Horrible company.

I have had a terrible experience with Varsity Tutors. Spending approximately 5000 dollars with no results. I would not recommend using Varsity Tutors Online services. Billing for memberships is unclear and apparently automatically renews. Customers service is pleasant but gives misinformation and provided me no results to my issue. Varsity Tutors is a scam. We paid $530 for 8 sessions per month but when you schedule them with a tutor, it’s not guaranteed that they show up and the sessions do not roll over. Tutors will cancel or not show up to the online session. It is difficult to schedule and Varsity Tutor does not hold themselves accountable when you’re not able to schedule sessions, when the tutors cancel or don’t show. This was a rip off and they declined my refund request when my child’s tutor only met with her only 1 time for the month. The other sessions were either canceled by the tutor or he didn’t show up during the online session. When I called to complain, Varsity Tutor did not hold their tutors responsible and did not credit me for sessions lost in that month or the 2 previous months we paid for. A total rip off! I ended up canceling the membership. Find a different tutor program that’s more reliable.

What a scam! My daughter signed up for a summer course and needed some tutoring. We agreed to a hefty $499 for one month of services. Well... after the 4-week course was over, we didn't use the tutor any longer, but Varsity Tutors kept charging us! We never authorized them to charge our card and clearly told them it was for one month only. They refuse to refund us for over 1k in charges that we never used or authorized. Now we have to file fraud on them. DO NOT USE THEM, they will keep charging your card until you call them and ask them to stop even though we told them we only wanted 1 month, and they said that would be fine.

The issue was resolved quickly & they have refunded my dad for the 4 months they erroneously charged. Wish it could have been resolved with the first call. Horrible company. My 80 yr old dad offered to pay for my niece to get tutoring help from Varsity Tutors. We agreed to a one-month term, since she was at the end of the semester. The representative agreed this was the best option for the end of the year tutoring. She was never matched with just one tutor. Don't bother looking at the fake tutor bio's, you aren't allowed to pick anyone because those people don't exist. I just found out today that Varsity Tutors has been charging my dad's card for $600+ since April. The representative told me over several conversations, that it would just be for the one month. Lie. They have no intention of working on some sort of refund when they can clearly see that she has not been utilizing the tutoring since last school year. What a scam. In a one-month period, she worked with 4 separate tutors. How's that for consistency and the tutors constantly called changing times & days. Horrible.

I was initially concerned about trying online tutoring for my 7-year-old, but Varsity Tutors has exceeded my expectations. My tutor has given me a great platform to further my learning of the Korean language. I would say with most things, you get out what you put in. And these tutors will personalize your program to your goals and needs. I came in with a little prior knowledge, and we flew through the beginner stuff and got cracking on what I really wanted to work on. My tutor understood exactly what I wanted to work on and started on it immediately. Everyone’s experience with learning is different, so I recommend being picky with your tutor until you are truly happy with their teaching style. I am very happy with my tutor, her knowledge, and the learning platform itself. Very happy with my experience so far.

I had the most wonderful experience with Varsity Tutors. I was studying for my medical boards. I was floating right around the pass/fail mark and wanted some extra support to walk in the exam confidently. My score went up over 100 points which is amazing. I had 1 on 1 sessions, a personalised study plan, and all kinds of resources that were all essential to my success. I am happy to report that I very easily passed the exam. I got tutoring for my US history regents and it was okay but sometimes the tutor doesn't understand the topic and I have to teach it to them myself. My tutors usually improvise their lessons every time I meet them, however tutors are friendly and kind. I did pass my regents but I don't think the tutors helped with much since they don't always understand the topic.

Overall, Varsity Tutors has been outstanding. My son and daughter have learned a lot, and they love their tutors. I plan to continue to them with Varsity Tutors throughout high school and test prep, as well as some of the extra curriculum classes. Have some small issues with customer service, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Very knowledgeable instructors. I would highly recommend. The teachers are very nice and I find it easy to understand what the instructors are trying to tell me. I would recommend this service, no matter what you're trying to get educated in. Yoga can be a difficult subject to master. Luckily for me, the wonderful people at Varsity Tutors have made it abundantly easy to become competent. What a great service!

I have had a great experience with Varsity Tutors. I had only one tutor that flaked on me when I was in need and varsity tutors rescued me in the nick of time and set me up with someone else right away. When I explained to them what happened and my deadline for my assignment was due the next day sweet relief I got the help I needed and my assignment was turned in on time. I have used them for many of my college level science classes so I can not speak to other types of classes but I'm sure they are just as good. If a tutor you have doesn't work out for you just call them and they will give you a replacement for tutoring. Just let them know so they can work with you to remedy any problem.

***First, all you people studying for NBCOT (COTA/OTR) DO NOT COME HERE. Just stick with the NBCOT Study Pack and Therapy Ed material. Both of them are like at least half the price compared to this rip-off scam of a company.*** I tried tutoring through here because of their high pass guarantee, but it’s just been a whole headache working with this company from day one.
I specifically ask for a COTA tutor, they give me an OTR (COTA and OTR exam are two completely different tests and scope of practice). I told them about my specific scheduling needs, that I would have to communicate one week at a time due to my work schedule, they proceed to schedule all the wrong times and times AFTER my exam day.
All the employees working for this company need to get their information straight, everyone says different answers. Very misleading and scam, one employee will say one thing can be done and then another one will say it cannot be done. (Was told that the hours for the group sessions CAN be used as hours towards the hours you paid for. But then was told later that the group sessions cannot be used towards paid hours. (One-on-one session hours only). I relied on that because my tutor was very unprofessional (Missed one whole session, didn't message me until at least a day or 2 after the missed session, was asleep on call/not responsive when I asked questions in the session, doesn't say much in sessions, when I ask questions they don't respond, says one time to meet but then schedules differently, also their wifi connection blows. Keeping on hopping in and out of the call... just so annoying!
This is more like Junior Varsity Tutors to me. My tutor was a very knowledgeable guy got a good bio/resume, but TEACH ME PLEASE THAT'S WHAT I'M PAYING FOR!!!! Seems like these tutors get paid to sit on a phone call and watch you do practice exams! Like if you're going to do a practice exam with me, walk through every question with me!
Also did I mention when I ask a question 90% tutor was on mute with no camera on. Very unprofessional yet again. (You all reading this prolly thinking, why haven’t I got a new tutor by then? Well when Varsity Tutors say 24/48 hrs for new tutor reassignment, they actually mean at least 4-5 days. My exam was close within about 1-2 weeks at this point so there wasn’t much wiggle room to try and get another tutor in my opinion.
Also when going through these practice exam questions myself, my textbook I could follow along with/had the answers, some of the questions, TUTOR WAS INCORRECT AND I WAS RIGHT ORIGINALLY. Was on the phone with an employee and then a manager for a total of 1 hour and 13 minutes...30-40 minutes of that phone call was WAITING ON HOLD! After that phone call they are attempting to reassign a new tutor for me meanwhile my exam is in 5 days at the time I spoke to them. This whole experience made me so stressed, never doing this and never recommending them to nobody!

No matter what happens do not give them your phone number. I called them for information on a drawing/art instructor for my son. Totally incompetent on the phone, couldn't figure out if they had someone or not and after 15 minutes of fumbling on the phone I just ended the call politely and hung up. Now comes the harassment. They call our house every single day throughout the day leaving messages, we won't even answer the phone anymore when we see them calling. Yes, we asked them to remove our number but apparently that is outside their skill set, perhaps they should hire a tutor on phone etiquette and customer service.

Original Review: I am an adult and went back to school for a masters program. I needed some help with my first course, a mix of statistics and 'R' programming. The tutor for that was okay, he knew R but wasn't really up on statistics. The second course was a Python course and different tutor. I could not get a working connection for the online sessions with this tutor. Not one session worked. That wasn't a problem in the first course so I don't believe the problem was on my end.
What really has me ticked off is that it is impossible to get these people to cancel the subscription. I tried many times via their chat session. I just waited 25 minutes on hold to get a live person and they kept trying to persuade me to stay. After what was at least the 8th time I told them to completely cancel and the agent tried again I hung up. I will be filing complaints with the state Attorney General's office. This is fraud.

My tutor is just excellent and I am also very impressed with the speed and specific attention received from the Varsity help desk /Customer Support people. I looked into Varsity Tutors as I needed help tutoring to reach my professional designation. The sales process was great, and the salesperson answered all of my questions and calmed any fears I had. It was a costly investment, over $4000 so I had many questions about refunds, payments, and the quality of the content. All were answered to my satisfaction and I was promised a refund if I didn't like anything. Unfortunately the content promised was NOT suitable at all and the salesperson flat out lied about many things. They refused to refund my payment, so I'm out $4000. I would avoid this company at all costs, personally. Sharing in case this helps someone else!

DO NOT sign up based on a representative's "guarantees." These people are not honorable or reputable; they "guarantee" you can cancel whenever you want, refund any unused balance, and not get charged for any sessions that are unsatisfactory. Of course, the written agreement says the exact opposite! I should have read the agreement line by line, but it was right on the heels of speaking with a representative about my daughter's need to study the LSAT. You know, "... the great thing about Varsity is..."—I never realized she was lying to me. My daughter was still in college, so it was imperative our tutoring program would not expire, since we couldn't be sure exactly when she would be taking her LSAT, but she could get started early. I was clear, the representative was clear about the fact we could recover unused balances.
I also wanted to cancel and recoup my balance, if needed, because my daughter would be the judge if the tutors weren't up to snuff. I was VERY clear on that—she might change her mind about law school after all—and the representative was VERY clear that it was okay to do this. I even asked her, "you guarantee this, right?" The answer was most emphatically, yes. So I lost $1,112.36 after finding out the hours ran out over a year ago—which speaks to the fact that I was unaware there even was an expiration since over two years had passed since we signed up! What has happened to our country—to our people? This company has NO decency, NO honesty, and NO integrity when even just one person is lied to, and they fail to recompense.

Before Varsity Tutors I was genuinely afraid of math and felt it was the one subject I would never understand. Although my class was accelerated, within a month my tutor allowed me to understand the basis of calculus and could answer any question I asked and if they couldn’t, they would look into and get back to me in a message after the session. They will always try and help you succeed! Genuinely grateful I found this learning platform.

I used their services and they paired me with 4 tutors. 1 never showed up, 1 didn’t know anything about the subject, and then 2 quit before I even had a tutoring session. The phone support people wrote down my availability incorrectly, and guaranteed a match who was knowledgeable in my subject and in ADHD. The whole process took nearly a month, so they wasted any time I had to find another service before my exam and then they only refunded HALF!! I even reached out to clarify, again, that I was using student disability grant and if I didn’t have any tutoring sessions I had to return ALL of the funds. Like, what am I going to say to my student loans? Sorry I can only give you half of the money back because this company, who didn’t provide me with any sessions, stole the other half? AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
P.s. if they say they have any experience in neurodivergence they are not telling the truth. I was very clear BEFORE I signed up that I have ADHD and that I needed help tailored to my needs. Not one of the tutors knew anything about ADHD!

We had excellent experience of finding the perfect tutors for my son! I have been looking for good math tutor since last year for my middle school son, we have tried couple tutors in other tutor location, but they were not the tutor which fits my son’s needs. I was about losing hope… Luckily this summer I tried again to look for tutor from Varsity Tutors, we finally got the perfect match with math tutor Han Chun **!, PhD in math and physics! We have been having his tutor session in a daily basis for the past month. Varsity customer service is amazing, it’s very easy to reach out customer support team by texting or calling them. I requested a new tutor and waited two weeks for a response when they promised to set me up with a match within 48 hours. I then messaged that I would like a refund and that I was not able to use any of the hours for the month due to their inability to match me. They refused to offer a refund for any of the hours. I am traveling a lot over the next few months and unable to use the hours at a later date. I would rather have a refund instead of forfeiting $200 for tutoring I never received.
Please don’t make the mistake of joining Varsity Tutors, you can likely find an equally capable tutor in your home town for a fraction of the cost ($200 for 2 hours of tutoring is the current cost). Varsity Tutors will say that you did not cancel prior to the deadline, while they were the ones who refused to provide the service you paid for. Any other company would provide a refund if they did not provide services that someone paid for. Please do not waste your time/money like I did.

Our experience with Varsity Tutors has been excellent. The tutors are wonderful with my son and seem to be very knowledgeable of the subject matter. The program is very responsive with any issues as well. We had an issue with a language barrier, the tutor was very nice, just difficult to understand. Varsity Tutors completely understood and replaced the tutor immediately. My son is very happy with the replacement.

My child absolutely loves Varsity Tutors! He has loved both of the tutors he worked with. I love the fact that you can ask them to include something, and they will add it to their curriculum. I was worried that my child will get left behind in school as he just recently tested out of special education while working with Varsity. I no longer have that fear and will try to continue with them as much as possible to keep him as a head of the game as I can. I cannot recommend them enough. They are a lifesaver and have helped ease all of my fears after having a special needs child.

I purchased the plan of 8hrs for one month. First off, I did not get my tutor till 11 days after purchasing. My tutor dropped out one week on me and was always complaining about internet issues. After that, I called to get a new tutor. They told me be they would call me by a certain day, never did. Lastly, my current tutor, Deepak S, has no regard for the time of the student and only cares about his own time. This is the worst company for tutors. They scam people and do not deserve a single penny. I would never recommend to anyone.

Varsity tutoring is helping my grandson keep up with math. I also enjoy the programs that’s included for him in other subjects. Being online helps because he doesn’t have to leave the house. The lady talked to me today was very patient and nice, and make a very clear and good solution. Tutor was good, but the service was very bad. We pay for a 4 weeks tutoring for SAT including 16 hours group class and and 4 hours of 1:1, we make very clear it is one time purchasing thing, and if we want more tutoring we will call. They didn't send any note and email, just repeatedly took my money from my bank monthly automatic, we reached out to talk to the customer service and tried to login to change the payment method, there is no way to change, and they lied to us and change the original 4 weeks plan to a 4 hours plan, and not allowed us to stop. I have to report a dispute in my bank.

After canceling the service they continued to charge me a total of $3900. After the first 2 sessions we realized it wasn't a fit for our child. We called and canceled and were told they would give us some free bonus sessions if we wanted to try again. I said thank you, but please cancel the subscription. Fast forward to today where I realize they continued to charge me. They now say they canceled and it looks like they are not readily giving the money back, even though we had zero usage and had called to cancel. No receipts were sent that would alert me to the ongoing charges.

I scheduled 2 sessions with their tutor. Both times he flaked. Which is frustrating in and of itself. The first time he just didn't show at all. The second time he showed for 2 minutes. I uploaded my project (which he did not read ahead of time like I was told he would) and saw him on his phone. Then he took his camera off and left the session. Not responding to my messages. Then I went to get a refund (I signed up 4 days ago and had not used any of their services due to lack of professionalism and helpfulness. I get told I cannot have a refund because the charges already occurred.
When I signed up I was told if I am not completely satisfied with their services I can get my money back. So now I am out $369 for nothing because they are too greedy to give your money back when their tutors mess up. I wish I had taken those other reviews into account before I signed up. Many reviews on Reddit and Quora regarding the greedy of this company. They do not care about the students, just getting paid.

Great business for tutoring of all subject matter. I’m learning Spanish and am having a great time. My instructor is awesome being very patient and kind. She takes time to listen to me, correct my pronunciation, and shows me in writing. It is very easy to set up times for lessons. I have no trouble with being online for my lessons. I also like having my lesson available when I have time to review it.

I have had a great experience with Varsity Tutors! They paired me with somebody who really knows his stuff! I'm taking graduate level courses and have not been disappointed! I also struggle with test anxiety and my paired tutor has helped with that too! The fees are reasonable for the services provided. The website is easy to navigate and their software is very user friendly! I highly recommend varsity tutors, if you are looking for quality help at an affordable price!

Our tutor Tiskiyya is great! She interacts really well with my daughter and formed a bond with her on her first session. They even play a game at the end of each session drawing animals and trying to guess each other's. She makes learning fun. I would recommend her for any student but especially for elementary aged.

They are horrible. My first and only appt they were almost an hour late. I cancelled due to the issues plus I only had $ for 1 appointment. Now they keep trying to charge my card again. And I am continually getting text messages and emails from this company. I have Repeatedly told them to stop contacting me or I would start contacting the Better Business Bureau and I need to for the harassment of emails and text messages and yet they continue on. They are hard to get canceled. I have fought like hell to get my account canceled. Multiple phone calls to them on my end was apparently canceled yesterday yet. They’ve still tried charging my card today and I have gotten four emails and seven text messages. Do not go with this company. They suck, the Tutor even quit.

Beware of a very terrible business practice by Varsity Tutors and I’m sure I’m not the only parent in this country who has fallen to their unethical practices. I trusted their friendly agent on the phone call and did not realize when I signed up for 6 months of tutoring they would take it upon themselves to continue to bill for services not rendered. I had asked for a service freeze in October and unbeknownst to me, they continued to bill me for November, December, January, February and March. I had signed up last April. We actually only used 8 hours of tutoring but that’s on me because I knew I had signed up for 6 months of services. But what we utilized was far less as they continued to bill for services not rendered and unfroze when I had asked for a freeze on the monthly tutoring last September.
I find it to be very unscrupulous that you do not clearly alert to your terms of automatic renewal by your sales agents who are only eager to sign up for locked in months of service when the needs do not fully meet your customer’s schedule. I very clearly requested a freeze on September and was not alerted that it would resume past October. When you have a service and request a freeze it stays frozen until activated again. Furthermore, this reinstatement of services that were clearly not used for the months of November, December, January, February and March 2024 is more than the actual 8 hours that were scheduled prior.
I am extremely disappointed in this level of unethical service and alerts and will not be recommending this service to any future friends and family and most certainly will leave a very public comment about how you covertly bill busy parents who trust that what your agents say is how you conduct business. Shame on you all for hiding behind this way of offering educational services! I am so appalled at this business.

The tutor was a great fit for my child and was able to accommodate the weekend hours that we needed. It's overwhelming how many extra services there are for the whole family to take advantage of. Save yourself unnecessary angst by not engaging with Varsity Tutors. This company has no integrity and preys upon parents' willingness to go to any means to assist their students. I would suggest you bypass this company to look for a tutoring firm which offers a trial session before obligating to an ongoing commitment, like LEARNER.COM.
I contacted Varsity to request a tutor for my daughter for her college-level Chemistry class. The Varsity sales person informed me that it takes upwards of 48 hours to "match" a tutor and proceeded to ask many questions regarding my daughter so they could find the ideal match. In addition, they asked if I had any requests in a tutor, which I gave them one. Within 2 hours, the tutor match was made and the one, and only one, request I had was not met. Although the tutor was a pleasant person, he was not able to address the material to be covered on my daughter's upcoming midterm.
I cancelled the service immediately via text, which they were using to communicate with me. It took Varsity one day to respond, telling me that I needed to call them to cancel. I contacted their billing department to cancel, as well as stating that I would pay for the one session but was not going to pay for their ongoing service. After a 35 minute conversation, I was informed that management would review my request and contact me with a resolution within "48 hours." Three days later and no contact. I'm not surprised.
Shame on me for not reading their reviews prior to engaging with this unethical company...My main concern was helping my daughter connect with a tutor for the 1:1 coaching that she needed. If Varsity Tutors truly guarantees satisfaction, then I would expect them to work through their disputes, not hide behind their "biling" department that can do nothing for you. Also, offer a trial session, to ensure the tutoring experience is positive for the student before locking in an ongoing monthly charge of $649.

We initially invested in Varsity Tutors for my daughter who is a Junior in High School but then my son who is in 7th grade saw the ease in how she was able to access help and he asked to start using it. It has been wonderful! Both my kids enjoy it which makes it so much easier. They have both had wonderful tutors in several subjects. I've really been enjoying my weekly 1:1 tutoring sessions in Spanish, and have also taken a helpful group course. It's not the cheapest way to learn, but I've found it worthwhile to have a personal tutor who amends lessons to my needs. I would certainly recommend to anyone serious about learning a new language! I have been using Varsity Tutor to study for the LSAT. I don't doubt my tutor is knowledgeable. He has been accommodating, responsive, and overall a wonderful tutor. In May of 2023 I purchased a few hours for finals & they signed me up for a membership that I never signed or agreed to. They have been charging me $579 for 6 months which I never used & didn’t catch right away & only refunded me for 3 months after calling numerous times. I can never talk to a manager. They keep giving me the run around & owe me $1,707. They scammed me. I already made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I spoke to a customer service rep from Varsity Tutor. I am glad that I called to point out the issue. They resolved it for me and assured me that I would be notified by email when the tutoring hours were going into an overage. I recommend you contact Varsity Tutors if you are unhappy - they helped me and I am sure they can help you too. The person who contacted me was professional and offered solutions. I am happy with how they resolved this issue and I have modified my rating as a result.

I purchased tutoring for my son in September 2023. In December 2023, my son used the on demand tutoring service that they provide. If you choose to use it beware because you do not get warned when your tutoring hours in your plan reach the limit AND this kind of tutoring is very expensive. My son racked up $900 of additional fees in ONE DAY. I was not warned by an email - nothing. It's a license to charge my credit card. Also I was charged for sessions where the tutor did not show up. I complained to their customer line. So far no call back. I alerted my credit card company to stop the payment until we investigate. Am cancelling my subscription. Great tutors - they were helpful. The way they get you to rack up additional hours and don't warn you is a scam.

I have been very happy with the tutors my daughter has had so far. We’ve had two different ones since we started with Varsity. They are always very knowledgeable, helpful and engaging with my ASD/ADHD 11 year old child. The only thing I would add for them to pay closer attention to is the tech side of the video chats. We’ve had a few situations where we couldn’t connect or had to get tech services to get involved. In all instances, Varsity has accommodated us by not deducting hours for the missed sessions, which I appreciate and value. I just hope that they will iron this out better for the students and parents who make the time to be on time and then just wait, or have trouble getting connected. The sessions are valuable and it would make this service have 5 stars instead of 4! Please work on this to help these children who don’t have much attention span as it is. Thank you for providing service across the country at our availability.

We’ve had a great experience with Varsity. I was recommended to check them out by a friend (kindergarten teacher) who has used varsity for a couple years. From when I filled out an inquiry to when we got assigned a tutor was a breeze. Follow up by varsity was really great and not overly pushy. If this review was just for our tutor, Donna B, this would be a 10 star review. Donna is the perfect balance of someone who is encouraging, while also being strict enough to produce results.
I’m knocking off a star because for our first two billing cycles, we were overcharged an hour each time and the standard policy isn’t to issue a refund but instead to give you another hour to use. The first time, I called and I was advised to accept the hour but the second time, my husband called, he got the refund. I’m a pretty assertive person and my husband is actually the opposite but I think this may have been an instance of they just took him more seriously, which isn’t great, but hey, at least I got the refund. We’re still not entirely confident the billing situation is fixed and will have to pay attention to each billing cycle, but even with that inconvenience, Donna is too great to give up. My kid looks forward to tutoring, has been improving in school, and actually isn’t just memorizing the skills but learning the concepts.

I would like to preface, I really enjoy my tutor, she is great, it’s the company as a whole that I am having trouble with. Unfortunately, I had changed my plan as I had paid $512 for only 8 hours of lessons, as a trial run and did not feel that virtual lessons were not worth this much. I also advised the person doing my intake that I would be unable to start the lessons until Dec 10, not being told that hours do not roll over from month to month, and my billing period began November 27, 2023, so ultimately I missed out on 2 weeks worth of lesson time due to this error. Upon changing my membership to be a “pay per lesson” I was charged yet another $512 AND all of my hours from December and January were cleared from my account. So I’ve been charged over $500 for absolutely nothing then.
Upon noticing this charge, I gave the company a call to inquire regarding this, I called December 30, 2023 as this was the date I was billed this large amount, only to be told that I am calling too close to the holiday and that my issue cannot be dealt with until the New Year. I still have yet to hear back unfortunately and I am locked in with this membership. I wouldn’t have signed up in the first place had I been told any of this. :( Upon doing further research, the tutors only get $15-$20 per hour for their lessons, while I am paying $64 per lesson. I don’t think this is very fair either. Seeing as no one has gotten back to me, I’m not sure how legitimate and reliable this company actually is. I would just like my money back and this membership cancelled, I’m really disappointed. :/

Both of my sons have utilized Varsity Tutors with stellar results! My son was having intense anxiety over his organic chemistry class in college. The material was just not getting through. We hired Varsity Tutors and they instantly found him a fantastic tutor! This tutor was able to connect with him and explain the material in a way he could understand, The tutor cut through all of the confusing elements of the course and showed him the most important key points to understand. Varsity Tutors found a very good tutor for accounting who was willing to work around my son's college sports training schedule. She helped him not only pass his accounting class but helped him score an 84% on his final exam. He may have not passed the class without her help. My son and I highly recommend Varsity Tutors for college classes, especially freshman who are transitioning to the rigors of college academics.

My daughter is a college Freshmen working towards a Biology Major. She was struggling with First year Chemistry and had failed several quizzes and tests leading up to our enrolling her in Varsity Tutors. After just 2 sessions, she passed her Chemistry test with 92%! Unfortunately, her first tutor quit working with the company and there was some delay assigning her a new tutor. The 2nd tutor was not very responsive and after a few sessions we weren't sure it was working out. We contacted Varsity Tutors and they made it right offering us free sessions. This 3rd tutor is wonderful! My daughter just got her end of semester grades back and she passed Chemistry! As in any position, it's the tutor themselves that will make all the difference. All 3 tutors were involved in advanced academics and highly qualified to tutor but only the first and now third (present) tutor were a good match. I'm so thankful for the help she received in Chemistry.

Great virtual tutoring. Used for my elementary and middle school kids on school subjects that needed extra attention as well as fun/optional learning like languages and writing for fun. The tutor matching process has also been successful, and each tutor tailored the lessons to the specific characteristic of each kid and depth of knowledge on the subject. Have used them for a few years now and the experience has been great. Highly recommend!

Someone finally refunded my money only after I wrote that review and they have been continuously emailing me since to update my review so they don't look bad. I really appreciate them refunding my money but it was definitely a process and up until I wrote a review giving them 1 star I was treated very poorly on the phone but the attitude changed very quickly after my angry review. If you are having a similar issue it's definitely worth writing the review because they might change their attitude.

I would not recommend this company. I signed up to get help with college physics and spoke to someone on the phone who made the company sound wonderful and went on about how I will be satisfied with the results... I was told I could sign up for a 1 month membership that consisted of 4 sessions. This sounded great considering there was only a little over a month left of my course. Not once over the phone did they mention that this subscription would be auto-renewed monthly or that if the 4 sessions were not used in the month then they would expire and I would still be charged for them. After using 2 sessions I had reading week therefore I took a week off of tutoring and used the last 2 sessions after this break. The last session I used went into the next month by 4 days but I didn't know this would be a problem because I thought I was only paying for 4 sessions.
My mother noticed a second monthly charge on her credit card for 4 additional sessions. We immediately called when we noticed this and tried to cancel the membership and get a refund for the 4 hours that were not used. They refused to give us anything at all and just went on about how it says you have to cancel 30 days before a payment and the hours are non-refundable and so on.. They hide this information in the fine print and steal the money for sessions that you do not ask for. I was unaware that this membership would renew so how was I suppose to cancel 30 days before I got charged again. I am very disgusted and disappointed in varsity tutors and it's very clear that they don't care about their customers and just want to take your money. Do not use this company!!!

So far the course is progressing nicely. The combination of Tutor, online group classes in combination of assignments works for me. The pace is good for learning, comprehension and retention. As with any course of instruction you must devote extra time reviewing lessons and studying material from past classes.

My Son is Moderate Autistic with ADHD and was only reading 5-10 words in a 30 minute session (had to shorten the session length due to attention span). My Son started in September with Krystyna ** as his tutor and is now reading around 30 words a session with less errors and can even sit through the whole hour sometimes. He struggled with long words, so Krystyna started teaching him blending sounds to help him and it has worked wonderfully! He is definitely improving in school as a result. I wish schools would teach like her, then he wouldn't be so far behind.
I scheduled a temporary tutor for about 4-5 sessions more recently to make up for his tutor being absent, but those did not go as well, the tutor could only get him to read half the words. She struggled to keep his interest and couldn't always hear him saying the words and would get upset with him easily. The group sessions are awesome for the whole family. I have had 3 sessions where the tutor didn't show up, and a couple where the teacher didn't know how to work the system very well, but for free classes I have been happy with them. A little more training for the tutors of how to work the session would be beneficial rather than the teachers spending 15 minutes of teaching time trying to figure it out would be beneficial.
I have contacted customer support with issues with them not giving me a military discount and with scheduling/the platform and have always been helped right away/the issue was fixed quickly. I recommend if you have issues with a tutor/have too many missed sessions, request a temporary tutor or get a new one. Sometimes the tutor can do makeup sessions as well. You can also do the instant tutoring sessions, but those are only 15 minutes. Overall awesome program and I will keep paying for it for as long as I can afford it.

My child started using Varsity Tutors last year for help in her advanced Spanish class. By the end of the year, her grade had went from a D to an A thanks to Edwin. He met with her weekly via Zoom, kept in communication, went above and beyond, and had a caring, helpful demeanor. This year my child is getting SAT prep concentrating in advanced algebra with Elizabeth, and my child loves her tutor. Elizabeth breaks it down in a way that my child grasps and retains, and my "shy" child actually loves her tutor and looks forward to her sessions. I purchased a month to month subscription. I had to go through 3 tutors to finally get a person that could response to the invites properly. I tried contacting the client services several times and you are unable to get anyone unless you wait for an hour on hold. I paid for 5 hours and now my month is up and did not receive the 1 and 1/2 hours still left for this month. It's impossible to cancel your membership on your account. The instant chat is a joke. You don't get actual help. I have been very unhappy with this entire process.

I called Varsity Tutors at the end of September to request few sessions for only a month for my son preparing for his SAT. They told me 7 sessions will cost $579 and I opted or the 7 sessions (average of 2 sessions per week) since the examination will just a month away. I gave them my credit card information and they took the $579 out immediately. Getting a tutor for my son was my first challenge as the Tutor assigned to him confirm but DOES NOT show up for sessions. My son will sit in front of the computer for hours waiting and no one will show up and no apologies. I requested for another tutor and in all my son only got 5 sessions instead of 7.
The worst part is they started taking out $579 every month when in actual fact, I told them how many sessions I needed. By the time I realized they had taken the money three times without my knowledge. I called them to ask why they did that when I explained in clear language what I wanted and they told me they cannot refund me the money. First, they frustrated the service I contracted them for and then taking money out of my account without me authorizing them. Varsity Tutors Refund my money.

I obtained the services of Varsity Tutors in 2023. I started off on a monthly plan that included four sessions. When I completed my first month, I was contacted by a Varsity representative and told that I was on pay as you go. I had to put my sessions on hold in August 2023. My plan was to start my sessions again when I had time to do so. I did not cancel my membership because I was told by a representative that I was on pay as you go (if I was not using hours, and planned to start again, why would I cancel?).
Turns out that Varsity was charging me $399CAD every month when I was not taking sessions. I contacted Varsity to say that they had told me I was on pay as you go, but they refuse to return my money. I then cancelled my membership, only to find out that they would still charge me another $399. I did not cancel my membership because of what they told me, but they act like what they told me has no standing. Deceptive practices. Scammers. Avoid at all costs.

I don't think I've ever left a review online, but my experience with Varsity Tutors was so insane that I had to. In August, I reached out for tutoring on two subjects and was assigned two tutors. One was great, the other sucked. Whatever. It was short notice so I don't hold this against them. Anyways, I call in end of August after the tutoring and cancel my account so they don't charge me since it's a subscription-type model. Fast forward to October and I get charged $400. Give them a call, explain the situation and get a refund. Mistakes happen. Ask for a second time to have my account cancelled and am told that it is and I won't be getting charged moving forward.
Mid-November rolls around and you wouldn't believe it, I get charged another $400. This time I call in and they say there's been an error - the transaction won't drop from 'pending' to 'posted' on my credit card. I ask for a third time to have them cancel my account. Few days later, the transaction is posted on my credit card. I call back and they connect me with billing who says have no record of the transaction. Not only that, they say I need to contact my bank to get this resolved. Zero accountability or help was provided. How can you take $400 from someone and then say you have no record and offer no help?
I had to call my bank and submit a chargeback, which takes 30-60 days to get resolved and has no guarantee of working out in my favour. I even got them to replace my credit card so this scam of a company has no way to take more of my money. Long story short, do not give them access to your credit card. It is impossible to cancel your account and they'll just start taking $400 from you monthly and claim it's your fault.

I must be honest in this review and say that it has not been easy navigating the tutoring realm. Just like when trying to find the right fit with school, the same is true for a tutor. We have had several tutors the past 6 months we’ve been with Varsity. A lot of that has to do with my child being an exceptional learner and tutors not having the skill set to work with someone like him. Varsity has done their best to find the right fit for him. They have always heard my concerns and worked to rectify any issues. We are currently placed with someone who has been wonderful with my kiddo, and it’s made all the difference.

After canceling my membership they said I wasn’t going to be charged for anything else, to my surprise now I’ve been charged because they said I didn’t cancel this I didn’t cancel that or this is not refundable or all kind of excuses to keep charging my credit card. Please be on the lookout! Biggest mistake using Varsity tutors, call your bank and block them from doing any more transactions cause they will.

I soon realized that they charged me again because the contract said it was monthly. I missed the small print, I get it. But shouldn’t a company that truly cares about their customers understand that sometimes people miss the small print, and be helpful? When I called to get a refund, they were unwilling to refund. I had already paid for the tutoring hours, and the additional charge was essentially for nothing. Most companies will do the right thing and refund if they did not use the hours. While I know I missed the small print, like I’m sure many others will, I’m disappointed that they were not willing to do the righteous thing.

I am disgusted with my experience with Varsity Tours. In good faith, I signed up my daughter for a ONE month SAT Math tutoring session. It was sold to me as a one month deal - never was it mentioned that it would automatically renew each month. I am on a very limited budget so would never have committed to this monthly expense. I was shocked to see that VT billed my account this month. When I noticed the charge, I immediately phoned. The agent requested a refund, but I received a prompt response back denying the refund. I feel completely scammed. They can see that my daughter has not logged in since Oct 5. We thought the service ended. This company is essentially stealing money from vulnerable people desperate to help their kids. Stay away from this business.

Hi, save your money. Please don't go with these tutors. We booked the classes, but the tutor never showed up two to three times. They gave us the phone number to call, but the tutor never picked up the call. They charge $350 every month without providing the service. We are supposed to use all 4 hours of service in a month, but the tutor never shows up and the money is lost. They don't roll over the classes not taken to the next month. They keep charging money from you every month. They never refund even if they don't provide service. I had to finally cancel my credit card to get out of this rip-off service they provide.

Our high school kids gained significant benefits from the private tutoring on AP Mathematics and Physics, and essay reviews for college and scholarships applications. Our family, including parents and kids, enjoy many live online classes on foreign languages, strategic professional communication, personal finances, college preparations, photography, Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint, and many other classes. Varsity private tutors assigned to our kids have been great. They are professional, highly knowledgeable, and engaging.

Strongly strongly do not recommend these services. My nephew was getting "help" with a subject. His letter grade did not improve. In addition, we found that 6 months of services went unused and we were still being charged almost $500 a month. ZERO SERVICES for almost $3,000. So we paid thousands for literally nothing and are stuck in a year contract (regardless of the fact that this isn't working).
No notices, no access to the portal for the adult. This requires a lot of supervision by the adult, or a lot of self-management from the student. This is not what we were promised. We were promised a dedicated team-member to oversee his work, and we were promised a bump in his letter grade. I don't see who this benefits at this cost. We are stuck in a year membership, can't pause it, can't adjust it, so are literally just paying thousands. There are better tutoring services out there. Wish we went with a different company. We will pay around $6,000 with no advancement in academics. Letter grade stayed the same, no increase in learning, study skills, prep.
I believe the customer service might be outsourced because we get very boilerplate responses when we have issues. Nothing is responded with certainty or specific answers. Below is the exact verbiage when I brought up the costs. But no notes were added to our account. No matter was taken "cared" of. "Hence, I can confirm that one of our Client Service Representative has taken cared of this matter and necessary notations has been already added on you account."

Varsity transitioned from buying hours to subscription where hours expire every month and started charging my credit card monthly. Without my authorization. I never signed an agreement, it was time consuming trying to deal with them. The operators are nice but never forward you to a decision maker. As for the hours that expire, half the time the tutor did not show up on Sunday, which too late to reschedule. I recommend going locally where the client has more control or another platform.

Varsity tutors LIES and says that you can sign up for one month of service and then continues to charge for tutoring even though they told you could have services for one month. ALL readers be very aware this is a treacherous company. Used them for six months and then paused our membership. Contacted them two months later and requested to have six sessions for ONE monthly only. They agreed and sent me a link I thought to pay, the link signed me up for a continuous membership and charged me the following month. When I called to get the charge reversed, they REFUSED and claimed that in my user agreement I signed up for this. After much complaining I cancelled my subscription and put in a dispute with my credit card company. They sent LIES to the company indicating that I had signed up for a membership and did not cancel. I am disgusted and telling everyone to be wary of this company.

I use the service for myself in university and for my daughters. All the tutors are great. The computer system that they use is wonderful and comprehensive. I only gave four stars because sometimes the video freezes or glitches which can take up a bit of time to figure itself out or there's a need to reboot the system.

I received a phone call from Varsity Tutors after I inquired online about their tutoring process. I was told they had great tutors and could help my child in chemistry. I was told I could sign up for a 4-hour package (4, 1-hour sessions). All sounded good, so I signed up online for $329.00. My child (a minor) was told by the tutor that the sessions were 1.5 hours, without discussing with a parent. My child received less than adequate tutoring, and was purposely kept on longer than agreed upon by me. The tutor also stated that my child had 30 minutes left of tutoring (but they charged an overage). Then I receive a charge on my Credit Card for $370.13 for another 4 hours of tutoring and an overage charge without my consent.
I have made multiple phone calls and have been on hold for over an hour just to be sent to voicemail. I requested a refund and the closing of my account; All I have received is the run-around once I got a hold of someone. They say it was escalated, to the escalation team. What a bunch of **. There is no accountability nor anyone in charge at this very predatory business. It baffles me that companies like this are able to continue to operate and rip people off. My family and I bust our ** for $$ and this dishonest, slimy company wants to steal from its customers. Do not sign up with this company, they will bill you after not providing services and will not respond to your phone calls and steal your money. Hell, you can’t even cancel online, you have to call a listen to their ** to keep you on the hook.

My tutor has been helping me with advanced finance techniques which has helped me exceed expectations in my classes. Especially in terms of learning how to use Microsoft Excel to help simplify long equations and the formula's necessary to solve them. All in all Varsity tutors has been a top tier tutoring platform which has connected me to very knowledgeable tutors.

My spouse and I purchased online tutoring services from Varsity Tutors to help our child with learning how to read (he's six) and it has been the worst experience ever. The tech platform has never worked and the company has refused to refund us. We were forced into four tutor sessions, but they end up being a huge waste of time because we aren't able to see the screen share. We asked to end our services after the initial month of services and we ended up getting charged for a second month. It's upsetting that they would not allow us to be refunded for issues with their tech platform.

As per my conversation with Varsity sales personnel, I have signed up 12 hrs for SAT help for only Sept 2023 month, and Salesperson did not tell me truth that this is monthly service and it is auto renewal, you have to call before certain time to cancel otherwise it will auto-renew. So we have used 12 hrs for September and thought it is over, no need to cancel service or call varsity because we have consumed our paid 12 hrs. But later in October 10, 2023, I found from credit card bill that Varsity have charged full amount and renewed for October -2023 month. So I have called many times varsity customer service and emailed to cancel the service and refund/stop billing, but they denied and asking me pay full amount, even we have never have used any service in October 2023.

Caveat Emptor are two good words you should know when dealing with this business. We were informed the charge would be a one time fee, and they continue to bill full price months later. I have now had a bunch of time wasted dealing with my credit card company since Varsity Tutors is not transparent in their billing. Be careful here.

Varsity customer service is one of the best I have ever experienced. They are kind, quick, patient, and overall made my son feel confident. Mr. ** was my son’s tutor and he was very helpful. I would definitely recommend varsity tutors if you need with ACT or SAT or even AP chemistry coaching.

We have been using Varsity about 9 months now. My daughter was in 8th grade when we started to finish out her 8th grade year. This was my daughter's first year in 2 years being in school. She had been home schooled since Covid. We started with Julian as our tutor and my daughter ended the school year with B’s & a C. I was ok with the C because I knew she had been out of school for 2 years. Now she’s in her first year of high school and we have Willis as a tutor and OMG!!! My daughter has all A’s and a B. Her Algebra teacher stopped me at church and said “Did your baby tell you she made a 100 on her nine weeks test”? I told her YES!!! I’m so proud of her! She juggles academics, cheerleading and basketball. Willis takes his time with her and really breaks the information down. I’m so happy we gave Varsity a try. This has been one stress free Momma. ❤️

I used Varsity Tutors for a month on a promo price. I needed to pause my membership and did so on their website, but then still was receiving text reminders for scheduled sessions. I then called to confirm that I was paused. The person I spoke with said I was paused and I had until the 16th to cancel or continue. It is now the 16th and I just got off the phone with them and they'd already charged a renewal fee. If "Until the 16th" doesn't mean "up to and including the 16th" then they should be more explicit about that fact when communicating with customers. Based on what I'm now reading online, this type of thing is commonplace with this company. You're better off getting tutoring elsewhere.

They work very hard to get you into a subscription service. I just wanted 2 months for SAT prep, they give the hard sell to continue. I try to cancel online. I cannot. I MUST talk to a rep. I call the rep the day my subscription renews. She takes more than 30 mins to cancel the service and puts in a refund request since they have already charged me for the upcoming month. I have not gotten the refund and they have not gotten back to me. This is a predatory business trying to get people locked into an expensive monthly subscription.

This is a review about the business practices of Varsity Tutors and not about the individual tutors. I cancelled my son's Varsity Tutor membership in June 2023. Yesterday I found that we started getting charged $249/month again starting in August. I called to complain and spoke with Beatrix. She said that the person we dealt with in June only put us on a 1 month hold instead of cancelling us. Beatrix said that that was unusual for a hold since usually it is at least 2 months for the summer but she would cancel our membership and submit a claim for a refund for August and September. This morning I got an email denying the refund.
We were very happy with Varsity Tutors 2021-2022 until they switched from hourly rates to monthly memberships. The sales rep told us we were buying a membership that would cover my son's tutoring at the same frequency as he was currently using. Within a couple of months we were being charged overages. When I called to complain in March (I spoke with Elise ?) I was told my son could only use 4 hours per month. He was previously being tutored 2-3 times per week for 60-90 minutes per session. I paid the overages and then cancelled his membership in June.
Something has definitely changed with this company in the last year. I went on Yelp in the March when I was having issues with our membership and posted a review to see if anyone else was having the same issues. I immediately got a call from Varsity Tutors asking me to take down my review and offering to work with me. A day later, I got an email from Yelp saying my review had been taken down because Varsity had complained that I was not an actual customer. In addition to the above issues, the hours you buy expire at the end of the billing cycle. This was not the case in all of our previous years with Varsity and was not mentioned when we were agreeing to the monthly membership.

Varsity Tutors has been the answers for my sons I have been looking for. I have tried tutors in my neighborhood but it wasn’t until we started with VT that we finally are seeing our boys excel. The amount of time they take to call you to understand exactly what you are needing in a tutor and then they locate the perfect one for your child’s needs. Both my boys have separate tutors and in different areas of learning too and this has truly been an answer to prayers. Absolutely do NOT give these people your credit card. Half my classes were canceled last minute & my tutor no-showed our first 3 sessions. I was offered an extra month of tutoring as recompense: great. So I asked to end my membership after that, and was told over the phone that this was just a consolation month added onto the next month.
Fast forward to 5 days ago, I receive a charge for $1,800 (my entire savings), despite my previous phone conversation confirming I'd like to end my membership. I've now spent hours & hours on the phone with these scammers trying to file for a refund: the first agent never filed my request, the second said I'd receive a call back (I never did), and the third told me it'll be 24-48 hours to review the request but they likely won't approve it anyway. And of course, no chance of expediting the review process or escalating to a supervisor, despite the urgency of me being literally bankrupted by this erroneous charge.
So now all my savings are gone, my bank account is overdrawn, and I have no money to actually schedule my test now. These thieves have ruined me. This company will PREY ON YOU with the monthly subscription scam, if you don't get your cancelation in writing. And then they'll send you in circles for hours, if you try to get your money back. If Varsity Tutors would be willing to actually address my refund & amend the fact they've financially crippled me, I wouldn't be writing this review. But as of right now, I genuinely feel like I've been robbed. Avoid at all costs.

I signed my son up for tutoring on an upcoming state exam. The first meeting with the tutor involved tech issues, and my son couldn’t even see her screen. These issues lasted for the first 30 minutes of the session. Also, She was confused about which test he needed assistance with, and I communicated that with the tutor. The second session didn’t happen because when my son signed on, the tutor mentioned she was having tech issues and she contacted Varsity Tutors, but they hadn’t responded in time for the session. I told her he could do it the next day. Didn't receive a response until later that evening.
I canceled the services, and two weeks after that, I received a call saying that the tutor had quit and I should look for another tutor. Poor communication within the organization! I requested a refund, and it was denied. I asked for an explanation and was told they don’t refund used hours. But where were the used hours? If I were depending on them to help my son with the exam, it would have been for nothing. No apology or efforts are being made to rectify this situation. I paid them for a service that they didn’t offer to me. Plus, they are giving me the runaround, fulfilling my request, and giving me a full refund.

Don't give them your money. We were so excited - finally support for our daughter. Two weeks into the membership, we have not yet had one tutoring session, but we've paid $579. One time, a tutor didn't confirm a session, then they reschedule, then it's an IT issue, then customer service doesn't call back. I don't even know if this is a scam or a real company. Do not subscribe!!

The company marketed themselves as pass or money back. When I tried to get my money back due to some family issues that caused me to miss a session (Godmother's surgery). I was hit with conditions such as "Must attend all lessons to receive refund" which was never relayed to me until after I made the refund request. I'm very disappointed in this company as I had a legitimate family emergency that I provided proof of and I was still not provided the marketed refund. Please stay away from this company. Thank you!

They advertised a one month membership. Continued to charge us over the summer. You can't cancel online. You have to call them. They then will screen your call to them and never answer. Call them with a different phone and they are immediately ready to talk and sell you. Lost over $650 and my kid only had two scheduled events. Don't do business with them. Scammers, thieves, scum of the earth. Come across as honest teachers and then lie, cheat, and steal. Absolutely rotten!

We have been using Varsity Tutors for a year. Our school district is offering services free of charge through Brain Freeze, a different on-demand and online tutoring platform. I called to cancel our membership for my 11 year old on 9/25/23. I received a email today to update my payment method on the account so I called in. The membership was NEVER canceled as I requested. I was told I cannot speak to a manager, but "Liam" said he would put through a request to cancel service and I would receive email in 24 to 49 hours to confirm. I said this was not good enough and the representative on 9/25/23 told me the same thing and I never received the email and am now getting billing notices. Again, I was refused transfer to a manager. I filed a complaint with the BBB and was shocked to see all the complaints filed against Varsity Tutors. BUYERS BEWARE!! CHECK THE BBB for a laundry list of complaints BEFORE doing business with these guys.

Opened account to assist last minute with final 2 tests in college pre calc course. Tutor was a no show for test 1 but did well for test 2. Tried to cancel account several times afterwards, but they wouldn't. They wanted to give me some free hours to make up for snafu. (We didn't use since it was too late.) Then they wouldn't close account.. And kept charging To CC. Infuriating!

We set up for a tutor in finite mathematics. Varsity Tutors could not provide someone who knew the material specifically for this class. We canceled immediately after the first session yet they are still trying to charge a full month. I would look elsewhere.

Didn’t think it was a scam, but total scam. Signed my son up for calculus tutoring, expensive, but fit your kid, of course. After a few sessions, it wasn’t working, no connection. I called, they said I had to pay for another 6 months, then they would let me out, even though we weren’t going to use it. They never stopped billing even after 6 months. I called again, said they would back me down to $99/month, for 3 more months, then stop billing me. After 3 more months, still billing me! Called again 8/14/23, again the said I wouldn’t be billed on 8/27, but I was billed, again! Called again today, 9/19/23, talked to Taren, again, on 4th long call, they still are trying to sell me more, trying to explain I should keep paying. Scam! I said, "If you can’t tell me I won’t be billed charged again, I’m starting to tell other parents this is all a scam." Taren then tried to sell me more! Again! So I’m writing this review. Varsity Tutors is a scam that will never stop charging you!

Excellent!! We are very happy with Varsity Tutors. My stepdaughter and grandson are both working with Varsity Tutors. Both of their scores have improved dramatically since they started with the tutoring. We never anticipated it would be so helpful, so quickly. The communication and feedback are great. We receive weekly updates and can also review the tutoring session on the videos they provide. Students can watch the tutoring session after it is over for review also.

Varsity Tutors has been a crucial tool in helping me study for my FTCE exams. I was placed with a tutor who has been such a blessing to me! It seems to me that varsity tutors hires well qualified tutors that are knowledgeable, encouraging and accommodating. She gives me practice tests, test taking skills, and even breaks down the way the test is set up. I feel so much more prepared and less overwhelmed for test day! Anytime I call customer service the staff at varsity tutors are kind and helpful. So far my experience has been wonderful and well worth the cost!

DO NOT USE VARSITY. If I could give less than one star, I would. We signed up three weeks ago because my stepdaughter needs help in 6th grade math and language arts. After 3 weeks, we still have not had a successful tutoring session and I have had to spend almost 8 hours on the phone trying to get help. At first, they kept matching her with tutors who were trying to schedule sessions outside of her availability - which was in her profile. We had to do the work of calling and complaining each time we matched with a tutor and they scheduled an incorrect session. For example, she is supposed to have tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We got session requests for Saturday at 7pm. Wtf?
Then, their customer service sucks. Most of their service reps are outside of the US and there is no way to escalate and talk to a manager. They say that a manager "will call you back in the next 24-48 hours", but if you miss that call, there is no way to call the manager back directly. You have to go through the ENTIRE song and dance again, with a new rep that knows nothing about your case.
They FINALLY matched our kid with a tutor available during her time, but only after I spent SEVEN HOURS on the phone with them on Monday and had to talk to multiple different reps. I was hung up on twice by folks who said "what do you want me to do? I've flagged the problem.". This week, our 6th grader was supposed to start her tutoring but guess what? The tutor has cancelled BOTH SESSIONS this week last minute. On Tuesday, she cancelled about 30 minutes before our session and didn't find another tutor to step in. Today, she cancelled 5 minutes before our session without even a "sorry".
I called the customer service line back and have just spent the last 45 minutes on the phone trying to talk to a manager about this with no luck. Interestingly, the customer service reps have no authority to help you with your tutor or cancel your membership. This place is a horrible scam. They do not care about you. They do not care about your children. They do not care about education.

Terrible company. Would not recommend them at all! Bought 4 hours of tutoring then realize I didn't need it and they would not give me a refund even though I'd use none of the hours. Literally scumbags. They said it was because it was in their policy that they couldn't do a refund which is complete bull crap.

Updated on 09/11/2023: This a follow up to the review I posted yesterday after receiving response from Varsity Tutors. After all the negative things I said about their business they sent me a link where I can extend my membership from 1 month to 1 year. No option for canceling it. Someone also call me. 1 hour before phone call I found out that even though I signed up for 4 sessions only they will renew my membership automatically. After expressing my dissatisfaction with their businesses I ask if I can be removed from automatic renewal. The answer was "I can't help you now but if you call this number in 3 weeks..." At this point I just hang up. Will call credit card company tomorrow and try to block from stealing more of my money.
Original Review: 2 stars because we haven't had a session yet and I wish I found someone locally instead. The amount of unnecessary daily emails and text messages forced me to block them. We had scheduled first session in 4 days with tutor who I spoke with on the phone already to confirm somehow I'm getting texts to get ready for my session in 15 min on different day with different person. Day 2 same thing only new tutor. For being this expensive and paying tutors less than McDonalds. I would hope they be more organized.

I was looking for a tutor for my son. I saw VARSITY TUTORS on Google and gave my info. They harassed me about 10 times before I finally answered and they offered me to try the service out and if I didn’t like it I could cancel my subscription. So I thought OK I’ll give it a shot. I gave the woman on the phone my card information and signed up. I used one hour in the first month and then was charged for the next month and then I went to cancel it and now they’re telling me I’m locked into a 12 month commitment plan when I paid over the phone and signed absolutely no contract whatsoever and now they’re refusing to cancel my subscription and only offering me to downgrade my account and they’re saying that there is no way they can cancel my 12 month commitment that I was completely unaware I signed up for.
I was not told about by the woman I spoke to on the phone for over an hour as she detailed everything about VARSITY TUTOR she didn’t once mention I had to look into some commitment plan, she specifically told me that I could just try out the service. I am absolutely DISGUSTED by Varsity Tutor and their predatory behavior and I believe a majority of these reviews to be fake. It’s honestly disheartening that they would try and take over 1800$ in a year for me for a service I wanted to just try out. I’ve now been charged ANOTHER 159$ because they kept emailing me the run-around. And now I have to go to my bank to restrict their access from charging my card because they REFUSE to cancel my subscription. Absolutely horrible this place. Do NOT use them unless you want to be taken advantage of.

If you are requiring tutoring that is not k-12 then don't bother since this is not a buyer friendly platform. There is no refunds and no exceptions. You don't select the tutor, they assign whomever they want. They will lie to say the specific field you are inquiring about is available and will just stick you into the closest related field. Only reason why it is 2 stars and not 1 is because after several attempts at new tutors I found one who can actually teach and explain things well. If you are looking for tutor in a specific field other than general education do not use this and best to search for someone individually to help with your academics.
