I ordered "Fundamentals of Cost Accounting with Connect Plus" 007739819X for $92.99 as I found listed on the Chegg site and paid for express shipping. When I got the book, the Connect Plus was missing. So I contacted Chegg and they said, "Oh, sorry, that is the way the publisher lists it, but we can't change the title, but we can offer you a 25% discount." So I asked, "Why even list that item if you can't fill those orders?" I pulled up the site and there the book alone is listed at $59.49 so I pointed out that this price was still lower than the $92.99 minus 25%, so I asked for the $59.49 minus 25%. They refused. I explained to them that I didn't get what I ordered and I should have my shipping amount refunded. They did do that. Still, I'm unhappy as I don't understand why you list a product you know you don't sell the way you list it. Chegg has really upset me with this.

I sold my book to chegg.com. After few days, I got an email that they will not buy back my book because the ISBN was damaged. I know it’s a total lie to get my credit card info. When I clicked on the PayPal link, it says link temporarily unavailable. My book is worth at least $50 and they want to take it for free. This company seems like a scam to me. I tried to chat on their website, they disconnected me. I don't know what to do? I am a disabled and poor student. Somehow I manage to buy books by selling my old books and they ripped me off.

I have used the Chegg site for years when it was just Cramsters. The quality isn't great, but when it was a free for odd questions, it was helpful. I went on it today for a class to see it changed to Chegg. I tried it for a bit to see that two of the five questions I looked up were wrong. Cramsters had this problem in the past and it didn't bother me because it was free/cheap and you could challenge questions. I also noticed one of the books I looked up was mislabeled. It was the 6th edition, but they had the wrong book problems in every chapter. I would never pay for this. It's the same quality of Cramsters but more expensive. If you have a class registered to Chegg, it could be nice, but to look up some answers, it's not worth buying.

I ordered homework help for 1 month and Chegg charged me for a year. I cancelled after learning that they don't have any help for my textbook and it didn't give my money back and Chegg emailed it'll be cancelled after one year. I cancelled within 30 minutes after I ordered. It's a total scam. They're scamming off struggling students. They must be sued. Shut down their operation.

Chegg was not submitting charges properly to my bank. I tried PayPal, but there was no charge showing up on PayPal. I got worried because I had tried a few times. I had to cancel the account as soon as possible, because I didn't want multiple charges for the same book. I feel bad for the other reviewers losing money, but I thank them for their posts. Seeing the posts for outrageous charges prompted me to take action quickly. The site is very difficult to navigate. They refer you to a different way to contact them which is in the fine print. You have to email help@zinch.com to get anything done.

I needed some help with homework for a difficult course. This website said they had expert answers, and my experience with Cramster had been solid. Anyways, I paid for the upgrade to get even solutions and I was allowed to view the solutions for one day, now they are asking me to pay for it again. The solutions I did see jammed too many steps into one and were difficult to follow. Now I am trying to resolve the situation over the phone, I’ve been on hold for 28 minutes still hearing annoying music. Save your money, this website has been a scam as far as I am concerned.

I ordered books for my daughter for school. I wasn't informed that they wouldn't ship it for more than 6 days (8 to get the whole order!). The website said you have thirty minutes to cancel your order. I called the number and got put on hold for more than 30 minutes, no cancelling order when I called back to request the order be cancelled. I got on the phone with a supervisor, Susie **, who was helpful but claimed to not be able to cancel the order. She said she would try to call the warehouse and cancel the order, even though they had "never" done anything like this before. I'm waiting to see the outcome, but not holding my breath.
No refund until 3-5 business days after they receive the books back, check them back into the system after they're shipped at snail mail speed. Basically, they're keeping my money for more than two weeks! Just to add insult to injury, Amazon was way cheaper, way quicker and the books were purchased, not rented. Don't ever use the Chegg service. Terrible treatment of customers, terrible delivery system, you don't own the books and their own system is set up to prevent you from cancelling your order by keeping you on hold for longer than the time allowed to cancel an order! Simply terrible!

I ordered the textbook solutions thinking I would get at least a little more than the free version. I was not expecting all the answers, but I did expect that there would be some answers to the harder questions! I did not pay money to look up the definition of a word. I am very angry and will not be using Chegg again. Make sure you check what you buy from here.

On Aug. 9, I placed an order for a book shown as in stock. On Aug. 13, I got an email notice the order was canceled because the book was not in stock. I went back online on Aug. 14 looking for the book and Chegg showed it in stock. I reordered but I also called and spoke to them about whether the book was or was not in stock, because I needed to order from another company if Chegg did not have it. The person checked the inventory and said Chegg definitely had the book and I would receive it so didn't cancel the order. On the evening of Aug. 15, I got a notice that the order was canceled because the book is not in stock. I just checked the website and the book is shown as currently available. I ordered from Textbooks R Us instead, but this looks like fraud to me.

I checked my bank account balance Sunday morning to find $108 (and some change) posted to my account from Chegg. Ugh, I can't fix this over the weekend. This morning I contacted them online to have it refunded, which goes smoothly (3-5 days for the charge to clear). I don't like that, but I can live with it. Just about an hour ago, I checked my account again and there is a second identical charge posted to my account that puts it negative. I yet again contacted Chegg and was told it is an "authorization" charge that will go away in 3-5 days (notice a trend here?), and that the refund will still occur at the same time. Of course the poor girl on the other end can't do anything to fix the problem except take my anger and apologize, and offer to refund me any bank fees associated with the new charge. This is totally unacceptable, and how would any normal college student be able to absorb an extra charge of $108 as a temporary fee, even just for a few days?

The concept of Chegg online textbooks is very useful and appealing but the way Chegg has executed it is the cause for more frustration than its worth. The prominent reason I was drawn to an eTextbook was for the search feature. The ability to search your entire textbook for words or quotations would be extremely useful but again, it was poorly executed. When searching, there are two options; to search the entire textbook or search the chapter that you are currently viewing. The chapter search option (which is the one I wish to sue the most) is an utter failure. For instance, I want to search the word 'Congress' in the chapter I am reading on the US Congress. I go to the search function to and enter the word 'congress' and it tells me that that word cannot be found anywhere in the chapter, which is false because I can clearly see that word written many times on the page that I am looking out.
This was a huge letdown to find out that it absolutely sucked. Additionally, they only keep about two or three pages of text loaded so it is pretty difficult to skim the text looking for something like you would turn through the pages of a textbook. Bottom line: cool concept, poor execution.

Apparently, Chegg bought out Cramsters and I received an email from them and logged into my new Cramsters account on Chegg. I don't remember ever buying anything worth $49.99 from them, but my credit card was charged. It seems like when I continued my subscription with Chegg, there were some fine lines. But I did not expect a company like this one to operate the same ways that car dealers do (no offense). I will call them or my credit card company tomorrow and complain about this issue and keep updates on the actions being taken.

You would think Chegg would know that for most college students, finals week is the very first week of June. Knowing that we need to study, Chegg informed us to return our books by June 1. I will refuse to rent anymore books from Chegg because it costs $7+ to extend my rental for 15 days for a single book and $4 for another. The website is supposed to save us money, but does it really? Chegg gets you with the rental extensions. I will be sure to tell all of my college friends to never use Chegg to rent their books.

I have been using Chegg for the past 2 years and never had a problem. It is well worth renting books for half the price and not being able to sell them back to a campus bookstore for three dollars. Two things that confuse me about people's complaints are: (1) They clearly tell you the due dates for each of your books when you rent them. When you sign into your account, next to each book that you have there is a pink box with the due date in it! The due date should not come as a surprise to anyone ever. (2) The return labels? When you click return and select your books, you are prompted to click on a big box that says "print label". You do not even have to save your original one.
Last semester, I sold them a book that I got at a bookstore and it brought me directly to a page that had a packing slip and shipping label to print. I do not understand what the problem could be with this. As long as you know what you actually want when you click order, there should not be a problem. Put a calender date in your phone or write it down on an actual calendar, but do something rather than forgetting to return them then complaining.

A year ago, I returned a book to Chegg that I had actually bought from another vendor. I realized this as soon as the shipment went out so I called Chegg customer service to ask that the book be returned to me. I spoke to three customer service reps (and I use the term loosely), who said that they would look into it. The book was never returned nor did I receive credit. I let this go because how much time can one spend on repeat calls to the same company? I was willing to let it go but I just received two emails from Chegg telling me that two other books which I should not have returned to them were going to be considered as donations because I did not contact them within 30 days of receiving them. Here's the thing: I screwed up on that. Frankly, I didn't realize that they had been Chegg purchases rather than rentals.
However, why didn't Chegg email me about my error immediately, letting me know that I had the option of having the books returned? They waited five months before alerting me that I could have requested a return within 30 days of sending the books to them. But here's the thing: When I did alert them about a book, nothing was done to return the book or offer me credit. So I called Chegg. My customer service rep told me that there was nothing that could be done because too much time had passed. After a dissatisfying 10 minutes with him, I asked to speak to a supervisor. When Jerry came on, he told me that he could give me credit for the two books because they had waited so long to alert me.
Just as I was asking about credit for the original book I had called about (which Chegg has had the opportunity to rent out twice), the line disconnected. I called back and of course could not get back to Jerry. My new customer service rep went to her supervisor fairly quickly, came back on the line to tell me about crediting my account, but somehow we were disconnected when I asked about my original book. I had given her my name and phone number but I have not received a call from her. Frankly, I'm fine with not receiving the Chegg credit because I will never rent another book from them. You shouldn't either.

So I was told that I could rent books from this company and save some money. Well, I ordered my books on 1/19/11 and did Next Day Air. Well came 1/21/11, I called Chegg and they refunded me my shipping and told me they would reorder my books. On 1/21/11, my books were reordered and I was told they were expedited. Well here it is, 1/25/11, and I still do not have my books. The supervisors promised me that if I did not receive them, I would be refunded my money on 1/24/11. When I called them, I was told that I had to return the books that I do not have before I could get the refund. The lady supervisor that I talked to mailed out the books again on 1/25/11 and told me I would get them on 1/26/11. **!
I have been waiting on my books since I first ordered them and they refused to refund my money until they get the books back. I will never ever use their services again. I'm still waiting on my refund from the 1/21/11 and it was not even posted for some apparent reason. Every place that I have made return on my card shows that it was being returned except for my order from Chegg. I will return their books when I get my refund. Please people, look into this company before you purchase your books. I talked to 12 representatives, with 5 being supervisors. Never again.

Chegg charged me an "extension fee" for not getting my books to them on time. The thing is they never warn you. They send you numerous emails which all look like ads. None of them directly address me as a consumer or have any language that warns you that time is running out. The only time I received such courtesy is when they told me my card was charged the fee, when time had already run out. They called and left a message telling me I could return my books to the campus bookstore. In that message they did not say, "get them to us by such and such date or else a fee will be charged to your account".
This is a shady way to collect fees. I have no doubt it is in the fine print, and this is how their company collects fees, they do not have any kind of courtesy to warn someone that they are getting close to a due date. They just charge you the fee and tell you it is non-refundable. I’m very dissatisfied.

I have used Chegg very happily for 3 years for textbooks for my two college students. 1 daughter lost a textbook which we were charged for. It was a totally appropriate action. This semester our books were supposed to be postmarked December 17, one day after the semester ended. On Sunday, December 19, Chegg charged our card nearly $700 for book purchases! We had a thank you for your purchase email stating our account would be credited after they received the books as long as it was before December 25.
The books got there on the 22nd, we were then told the refund would take 3 to 5 days. $700 was falsely removed for our bank account Christmas week. How would this affect most people? We have used Chegg for years. I recommend Chegg to many others (I work in a library) but we will no longer use Chegg and will tell others to beware. Merry Christmas from Chegg?

I rented two books and because of the bad weather in California, I returned them one day late. I was charged almost $30 for a late fee for both books for being late one day. Claudette, the customer service rep, was no help at all. I believe this is an excessive fee and their policy needs to be reviewed and changed based on each client's circumstances.

Rented two books, one specifically to include access code per their own description onsite. Ended up not using the code, returned it for supposed refund and then they claim that since they are not the publisher they can't guarantee code will be included so can't credit for the unopened code. This is not a matter of I didn't read their description or policy, it was stated in their listing and again confirmed in their email receipt to me. Since they won't credit as per their own policy, I asked that the code packet be returned and they won't do that either. They simply re-rent it at full price since it was never opened.

I placed an order for an Intermediate Accounting text book with the ISBN **, the title is INTERMEDIATE ACCOUNTING-W/WILEYPLUS. WileyPlus is the homework system/registration code. When the text arrived the spine was completely broken and there was no registration code included. I immediately called customer service - they obviously deal with this issue repeatedly as she clearly responded with a memorized stock paragraph - apparently their return policy states supplemental materials are not guaranteed - and in fact if the customer service representative is to be taken at her word are actually never even included at all.
Although this information IS included in the return policy it was NOT listed clearly when I rented the book. The customer service associate was not at all considerate or helpful. The entire transaction felt shady and manipulative. It is not difficult or outrageous to verify if a registration card is included in an order - the customer service representatives attitude implied I had asked if they were going to read the book to me after I received it. I even asked if it was possible for them to ship a registration code separately - that's when she responded with "we don't even have the registration codes. " If the registration code is included in the title and the ISBN it should be included with the rental or not available for rent. The associate (after 2 more calls) offered to refund my shipping - I will be surprised if it is actually refunded. No one with Chegg was apologetic.

I am amazed that people had such issues with Chegg.com. I have been using Chegg and had nothing but satisfactory experience. Reading the complaints, I see people complaining about their own errors and how chegg responded to them. There policies are clearly listed on the website. How about don't be irresponsible and lose your return label, or how about returning your book on time. Account for the shipping time, these things are easy. As far as the code, I use one every time and it has always worked. Those codes are from chegg champions who are actually college students who have signed up for an incentive program, so why would they not work? Read things before you buy and make sure you can follow the terms.

I waited and waited for an email saying my book was received. I finally contacted UPS and they said my book was received on June 21.
I contacted Chegg three times from June 21 to July 8. Each time, I was told my book has been received, the issue was escalated further, and I would receive a full refund, minus the cost of shipping ($5). Today, July 13, I have still not received an email about my book being received and their website shows I still have to return the book. This complaint is regards to a textbook ordered on 6/24/10 with "Next Day Air." Today is Monday, June 28, approximately 3:30pm; and it still has not arrived. I had specifically ordered this book with Next Day Air, because I needed it promptly. I expected to get the textbook either on Friday (June 25) or Saturday (June 26). Only after I completed my order, did I get a confirmation saying that I would get the book either on June 28 or June 29. You must agree that "Next Day Air" does not denote this kind of delivery, and because of Chegg's policy, there was no way to cancel an order even immediately after placing it.
After contacting UPS about my package, I further learned that what Chegg supplies is not "Next Day Air," but "Next Day Air SAVER," which is the difference between getting a package either in the morning or up to 7PM. Another important distinction is that "Next Day Air SAVER" does not deliver on Saturdays, while "Next Day Air" does deliver on Saturdays. Chegg, unfortunately, does not make this discrepancy clear to its customers. If this information had been readily available, I would not have paid $15.99 for a book that has taken over 4-5 days to receive.
A further look at Chegg's shipping policy shows the rates and amount of time it will take. For every shipping method, it states however many "business days" it will take, but for "Next Day Air," it states "next day." I think this is not only very misleading, but also untrue. Chegg ships "Next Day Air SAVER." It was a waste of money to have a book shipped at this rate. I also was not able to do my homework because of the late arrival.
This is not the first problem I have had with Chegg. I began renting from Chegg.com, because I believed it to be a reputable company with many "satisfied" customers, many being students like my self.
In the past, 1) I have had to wait 2 months to get my Chegg debit cash cards even after I complained and had emails saying it would arrive in "5 days." 2) Later when I tried to transfer that money into my regular checking account from the Chegg website, Chegg only transferred one debit card (the smaller amount) and not the other. 3) I have also had books sent to me that are readable but have been saturated with water stains and ripples throughout the whole book (when Chegg clearly states that they only "buy" books that do not have water stains.)

I was unable to sell one of my textbooks back to my school because we no longer used that textbook on my campus, so I decided to try selling it online for the first time ever with Chegg.com. When I put in the ISBN# for my book, I was quoted an amount of approximately $71.00. So, I packed up the book and CD that came with it and mailed it within a week, and waited to hear from the company as stated on their website. However, I never received an email or a letter in the mail stating that my book was received by Chegg.com or when I would be receiving my check. So, I contacted the live chat service, and the representative stated that they have received my book, but notice they did not contact me as they stated they would when I received my quote, but I would only be getting about $30.00 for it because the book had a different ISBN# than the one I had received the quote for.
When I asked him how that could be possible because when I put in the ISBN# a picture and description of my book came up, he stated that I sent in a book without the CD, which is grossly untrue! Because my quote had magically decreased by an amount of $40.00, I put in a request to have my book and CD returned to me. He claimed that they had no record of receiving the CD included with the book, but I informed him that if I received my book back without my CD they would be hearing from me again. I am now awaiting the return of my book and CD. I do not recommend doing business with this company. I wish I had found this web page before taking my chances with them. They have terrible customer service, and their representatives give mixed information. I had to sell my textbooks. When I realized my campus bookstore was going to give me virtually nothing for my textbooks, I hopped online and found Chegg.com. They quoted me the highest buyback compared to other websites and they offered free shipping. So I print out the packaging slip, prepaid postage, packed and shipped my books. A week later, I got an email and it stated I would only receive $30 less than what was stated. I talked to their representative, Eri, and she said the condition of my books were not what they thought it would be. The books I sold were all new, straight from the manufacturer. There was never a need for them and it just sat in the box. I couldn't send it back because it was past its return policy so my next option was to sell it. Eri said it was not new because it wasn't shrink wrapped. I told her not all textbooks come shrink wrapped and asked if it’s their policy that if a book wasn't shrink wrapped, that it would be considered used. She said yes. Then she went on to say that if the book is almost brand new that they would consider it as brand new. Are you confused yet?
First they tell me if it’s not shrink wrapped then it’s not considered new. Then they tell me if I think it’s almost brand new that they would consider it brand new even though it’s not shrink wrapped. I also inquired about a coupon I entered and they accepted, which would get me another $5, but they said they have no record of it. Yeah, right, then why would their system accept it? I told them if it was accepted, then they would find it in their system. After going back and forth on this issue, Eri went ahead and did me a "courtesy" of approving the $5. She told me it would take 1-3 business days to process and expect it to arrive via mail, but it’s now 1 month and I haven’t received it. I Googled "Chegg rip-off" and found this website. I sent emails, phone calls (at least 3), and each time was promised someone would get back with me to resolve this issue. They have failed to do so.
I am out the amount of money I would have received back through their program. I was told that their policy changed; my question is, isn't there some type of obligation to consumers who do business with you, to be notified upon changes, before they enter into a new agreement? Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Update to my last consumer complaint report. On Feb. 6th, I received yet another mail from Chegg stating that they are going to automatically charge my bank account for further book rental fees. Today it is the 7th, and Chegg has yet to close out my account. As I stated in my previous post, that this was the 8th phone call and the 8th Chegg manager who claimed they would be closing out my account and marking my books as purchased! Somehow, I think they will continue to harass me for more rental fees, even though they stated the books are supposed to be marked as purchased and officially mine to own! I think we should hire an attorney for a class action suit against Chegg, as I am sure that they have caused extreme emotional distress to other people as well!

In the summer of 2009, I rented 1 medical terminology book and 1 physiology book from Chegg. I continued to rent the books in the hope I could rent to own the books. Because I had already paid more than the value of the books by December 2009, and due to a misunderstanding about renting to own my books to own, I was informed by one of Chegg managers in Dec.2009 that they would make an exception and close my account and mark the books as purchased.
The customer service agent did not follow through, and I received yet another email and phone call telling me my books were over due and my account would be charged for further rental fees. I called Chegg again and asked why my account had not been closed and the books marked as purchased. I was told by this agent that she would take care of it.
About two weeks ago, I had more money taken from my account for, yet, more rental fees on the books. I called Chegg again and talked to Guadalupe customer service agent and Corinne a manager. I was informed that they would be closing my account and marking my books as purchased, but they did not, because Feb 1, 2010, I received yet another email telling me my books were over due, and I would be charged rental or late fees if I did not return the books. Feb. 2, 2010, I called Chegg for the 7th time and a Jamaican manager stated, she would personally deal with my account and closing it out. I was informed she would email me a statement stating my account is closed and the books are now marked as purchased.
I have not received that statement as of yet. Feb. 3, I received a call from a woman at Chegg telling me that my books have not as of yet been marked as purchased, but they are in the process. I have now had to call my banks and claim fraud, plus also place blocks against Chegg charging my bank credit cards again, in fact, I have cancelled my bank credit cards! This is truly an inconvenience. Do I think that Chegg will close my account as stated for the 8th time. No, no and no! I will probably get, yet, more email telling me my books are over due and bank credit cards are going to be charged yet again, but I am lucky I have cancelled them. I should actually sue Chegg for the mental anguish. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get them to finally close my account as 8 customer service agents and managers told me they would, but have thus far not done it!
Next time, I will just take out a loan to buy my books from my local book store. I have never experienced such horrible customer service in my entire life! Stay tuned, as I may have to come back here yet, again in 2-3 days to tell you that Chegg has not closed my account or marked my books as purchased.

My daughter sold her college text books to Chegg because they offered free shipping and good prices. The problem is that once they receive your text books, you wait weeks - month for the payment in return. Many of these college students are relying on the return to help pay for new books they need! After 2 weeks of waiting, we e-mailed customer service and were given a story that there was a delay in payment. Another week went by and still the same story, blaming the US Postal system, and saying they would look in to it. After countless correspondence with them we still have no answer and no payment! They won't even confirm if payment was ever sent. What a farce! They have her books, she has nothing and to date is screwed!

We ordered a college book that came with a guarantee to be delivered on a given date. When it did not arrive I called customer service, they used the word "guaranteed" again, that it would come the next day and, again, it didn't. I asked what the guarantee meant and there was no answer. No tracking information was available and 4 days after the guaranteed date, I was told the book had to be reordered. I would have appreciated it if they were honest from the start and told me they were unable to get the book.

I bought my books 2 weeks prior before school starting. I order 3 books. 1(English) was shipped separately from the other two. I received the one and one of the others is out of the second shipment fairly fast. I then checked the status of my 3rd book that was supposed to be shipped in the 2nd order and it said it was delivered. I was like the ** it was. So, I called customer service and they gave me some ** about how that just means the information was delivered to the 3rd party company.
My book was suppose to have been here at my house 3 days ago. I call everyday to harass the customer service. The lady at the customer service told me to borrow one of my friends book and just photo copy the pages I need until my book comes. No, thanks I said. I would like my book so I can do my homework. I have never had this much problem with anything or anyone. This is ridiculous. Finally, don't rent from Chegg.com at all! They don't care about their customers and have poor communication skills.

I have been very pleased with Chegg's service and am getting ready to rent next semester's books from them. Chegg also buys used books. I got around $40-50 per book, which was much higher than I could get from the college bookstore or even by selling on Amazon. Coupon code CC101954 gives you an extra $5.00 when you sell your books to Chegg. The same coupon gets you an extra 5% off of book rentals.

Chegg keeps changing their policy on book sell-backs. "New" books, when you see it, should have no indications of use, wear, tear, and marks inside or out. However, when I ship my new, never-used books, properly packed, I almost always get only 80% of the price they quoted. When I called customer service, they said "new" had to be shrink-wrapped. I sent 2 books in original shrink wrap, and it's the same problem. I had customer service track the books, and they said they would try to look up the checked-in books (How this could happen, I don't know.) but, in fact, nothing came of it. It's one of the worst sites for book buyback. Do not use it. There are many other companies who may offer a little less initially, but they hold onto their promise.

I rented a book from Chegg.com. They sent out the wrong book and didn't bother to notify me of their mistake. It wasn't until the book came did I finally notice the mess up, and by the time it took the book to get to me, it was too late to order again before my class started. I called their customer service to inform them about it and the lady was so rude! All she said was, "Oh yeah, they sent you the really wrong book." No apology or anything. I asked her what exactly they were going to do to fix their mistake and she said, "Well, we issued a refund so if you want the correct book, you need to order again." Most companies, when they make a mistake like that, would at least offer to ship it faster free of charge or something. This company could not care less about their customers. I will never rent from them again and I will make sure to tell all of my other friends in college not to use them either after the way they handled the situation.

I have bought all my textbook online for my college and post-college years. I found this book on Chegg online. They did not specify it was a rental and cost fifty bucks for three months. Now, they want the book back. I tried to sell all of my math books of which I paid at least fifty each. They only paid $5.00 for one of the books which is lower than the campus buy back. Nevertheless, I shipped all of them way back to them. I will report this company to any agency that regulate internet ordering, so chegg.com would not rip off any more naive students.
