I cancelled my Chegg subscription in 2013. They continued to charge me. I realized that in 2015. After 2 calls and a conversation with a so-called supervisor ** although it is their mistake, no one in the company can issue credit back further than 6 months. This is money that Chegg has fraudulently taken from me and now refuses to return. When I asked to speak with **'s manager, there was no one above him able to help me. These are horrible business practices and according to the first rep I spoke with, this happen all the time. Beware!!

Do not sell your book to Chegg. I sent them a new book (barely touched). They sent me an email saying they've received the book but no follow-up emails. I logged-in to my account and it claimed that the book has been donated. They DID not even send e-mail to tell me that the book cannot be accepted and the book is worth more than $100. I'm pissed at this scam site. Now there's nothing I can do about it! That's why they keep doing this to us.

The new tutoring service (InstaEduOnline) that Chegg offers has adopted the practice of billing customers for subscription minutes not used. So, fair warning, if you are unclear about the fact that you are signing up for a subscription plan after the free trial is over, please don't bother with their tutoring service. The tutor I used was awesome and I have no problem paying for the minutes I rightfully used.

My problem is with the "gotcha" feeling I felt when I checked my checking account and noticed extra withdrawals for tutoring I didn't use. Customer service will try to explain the legal yada, yada, yada...but, at the end of the day, all that remains is the bitter aftertaste from being charged for a service you didn't use or a product you didn't receive. They offer "'rollover minutes" as a refund option, as if they were a cell phone service, and make no mention of a money refund solution.

I sent them my book and they ended up not sending me any money because it was apparently in poor condition. I had barely used the book all semester and it was in pretty good condition when I sent it to them. They didn't even send me any sort of information telling me that they weren't going to accept my book. I sat around and waited for months. I am not going to use this service ever again. They will do anything to get out of paying you.

Chegg.com gives a lot of good information and helpful guides for studying, but they did a poor job in contacting me to see if I still wanted the service without emails even though I never used it. I only wanted 3 months of Chegg while I was taking Physics and they kept me on for another 5 months without asking if I still wanted the service. I paid almost $100 for unused service as I had completed all coursework but one class. At the time I was making $600/mo. and paying $775/mo. in rent. You do the math. I simply had not cancelled the service. I give them a 3 because they helped me pass Physics.

This company has the worst, most condescending customer service reps I have come across in quite awhile. I rented an eBook and the description clearly stated it came with access to MyResearchLab, the rep and his supervisor both said I was wrong. They further stated that the disclaimer regarding physical text books somehow applied to eBook's as well. Their disclaimer refers to USED text books, how do you lose ELECTRONIC information?

DO NOT BUY BOOKS FROM THIS COMPANY!!! On 12/12/2014 I placed an order to purchase a new textbook that showed in stock on the website. On 12/13/2014 my order was canceled because it was out of stock. I contacted customer service, via the online chat feature. I was told that the book was out of stock and that the website was not updated properly. I was told to check back, with customer service in a week. On 12/22/2014 I contacted customer service, via the chat, and was told the book was in stock. 11 minutes later I placed the order. 33 minutes later the book was again canceled because the book was out of stock.

I contacted customer service via 844-213-4634 and spoke with a supervisor who informed me that they have NO way to check if a book is out of stock unless an order is placed. She also confirmed that if the book is out of stock will show on the website IF it is update, which clearly it has not been for 11 days. Additionally they offer to provide a 5% or 10% off coupon for a rental (which is not what my orders were for) for any inconvenience that I as a customer may have experienced. Furthermore after each online chat session an email was sent asking me to rate my service and if I would like a person to call me about it. I have made such a request and have NOT received a single telephone call. This is an insane way to run a business and an insane way to handle customer service.

I have been a customer with Chegg for some time now. Back on August 24, 2014, my boyfriend and I sold back some textbooks to the company. After waiting for the check to come the first time, I received an e-mail from Chegg on September 26, 2014. Since this e-mail, another check was attempted to be delivered to my address, then a third check was attempted to be delivered to a different address. Yet again, after waiting another 15 business days, I still have not received my check. So again, another check was sent out via USPS and no surprise, we still haven't received it.

After waiting over 3.5 MONTHS for this check, my boyfriend and I are absolutely fed up with this process. When we spoke with a supervisor at the call center named Matthew **, he told us that there was no other way to get us our check other than to re-issue yet another check and make us wait another 15 business days for it, which I find absolutely ludicrous. A company of their size must have a way to send out a check via USPS so there is some sort of tracking number. I simply cannot accept that the only way Chegg can send out a check is through regular USPS, not even a certified letter. Chegg can overnight USPS textbooks to customers, it makes no logical sense that they could not therefore overnight USPS a check. There is no logic in that whatsoever. When will the cycle of sending out a check and having to wait 15 business days for it to not come for yet another check to be issued and still not come end? Their policy needs to change to go above and beyond for the customer and resolve issues such as mine.

I understand that sending out a check via UPS may be a bit more costly to Chegg, but I feel that at this point you can agree that this situation has gone on long enough. Matthew had offered to partially refund one of my previous orders to me for the inconvenience on top of the check that is due to me. Instead of that refund, I would like them to use that money to send out my check via UPS. I was also told that there was no one higher than Matthew that I could speak with and that calling the corporate office was not an option. I find that absolutely insane. How can a company of their size not allow its customers to contact its corporate office with issues such as mine? I could go to any other store or website such as Chegg and ask to speak to a corporate office and be able to do so.

Matthew stated that I should speak with my local post office and inform them of the situation at hand. I simply don't understand how I can receive mail from dozens of other companies in a timely and professional manner, yet it is only a check coming from Chegg that seems to be consistently 'lost' in the mail. At this point, I would have to assume that Chegg just simply does not care and that these are just delaying tactics to keep me from obtaining my check. They have received my books, therefore my payment is justly due to me. Their policy needs to change to go above and beyond for the customer and resolve issues such as mine. As of right now, the only people that their policy benefits is themselves and scams their customers. I would never use them again and would recommend others to not use them to avoid this headache and run around from them. I will be filing a legal dispute over this ridiculous ignorance on their part.

I was pleased with the quote I received to sell two of my text books to Chegg, with shipping at their cost. I promptly got the books to UPS for shipment and received an email confirmation on 8/26 that Chegg received them. The same day, I received an additional email stating a check for one of the books would be cut stating it would be sent "within" 5 business days (today is 10/3 and still no check but.. fair enough today is the 5th business day this is not so much where my complaint it).

It has been seven (7) days since both books were checked in, yet no word on the more costly of the two books, in fact it completely disappeared from my order. 10/1 I called Chegg and although the representative was friendly and courteous she seemed to hem-haw around the status of the book was but confirmed they have it. The explanation was given that because it was "expensive" it had to go through additional verification and I should look for an email by the end of the week, or maybe next week about the payment. It is 10/3, the end of the week, and no email. Chegg has had 7 days to decide if they want the book and issue a check (and if so, another 5 "within" days, and probably another 10 days to mail it, when/if I get that email).

Here are the points I consider: "Within 5 business days" this means to me to be between 1 and 5 business days. Mailing time 10 days, I have yet to receive or send someone something that took 10 days this may be my first. I should have my first check no later than than 10/13. I hope my first experience with Chegg doesn't require the full 5 days to issue the check and the full 10 day mailing window. Why has one of the books dropped off the map, and why so long to review it?

This isn't the experience I expected. Truly for the first book, the check should have been in the mail a few days ago and the mail only takes a few days but I understand the turn around times as a default measurement. I am not pleased at all over the amount of time it is taking to review my other book and that I can't even view that they received it online anymore. This casts doubt on Chegg's integrity. However if I receive payment for both books "within" a reasonable amount of time (reasonable is undetermined) AND I receive the quoted amount for the book "MIA" I may use the service again and hope for a better experience. If not, I will just sell the books back through my school and have cash/check in hand the same day.

Cancelled membership, 10/3/14 for the second time. Called Chase to report fraudulent charges. Should have noticed the charges prior. Chegg apparently has done this before after reading several other complaints. Take extra security measures after canceling your membership if you insist on using it. Buyer beware! I sold a book back to Chegg on August 26th. They were kind enough to give me 1 week to get the book to them via UPS. I mailed the book with no problems. I received an e-mail from them on September 3rd saying they had received my book and were mailing a check that day for the agreed upon price. Fast forward to today....almost 3 weeks later. Still don't have the check. So I called their customer service line. What a JOKE that is! I was informed by Marcus that it takes them 5 business days to PROCESS the check prior to mailing, and then can take up to another 10 business days for me to RECEIVE my check. Yet I only had 1 week to mail my book to them?!

At the end of next semester, I will take a lower price for a book from another company so I don't have to deal with them again. Their customer service stinks, and they did NOTHING to help me. Basically, they gave me 2 options....1) wait for my check to arrive in my mailbox...or 2) have them mail a new check....WHICH CAN TAKE UP TO ANOTHER 15 BUSINESS DAYS TO ARRIVE! My whole experience with this company has been horrible. I will not recommend anyone to buy or sell books from them. I can only imagine you would never receive your books for classes.

Ok so a fair review of this company is very very poor. I paid for two book rental from them a week ago and received one wrong book. Following receiving the wrong book I went to their site but it was closed. I was then prompted to go to Twitter to follow up on my order. Which I did. I told that I would receive the correct book by Friday. So today 9/10/2014 I called about noon and was told that my book would not be to me until 9/16/2014. Once I started to question the representative he became rude and said there was no one else that I could speak with. I then was hung up on.

Following this rudeness I called back to receive very similar treatment, but this time someone said that they would have a manager call me back in the next half an hour. Well it is now 6:58 pm and my husband has been on the phone for 49 minutes with a representative that has tried to help to the best of her ability with no success. THIS Company Is For Your Money Not You Or Your Education. Now 7:18 finally speaking to a SUPERVISOR MADALINE..SHE WAS NO HELP and uninformed. See for yourself if you want!!

I used Chegg's rental service last semester and things went smoothly. Unfortunately, this semester when ordering books I was given 3 options for mailing, each significantly higher for faster delivery options. Considering the competition of online textbook rental providers I think paying $19.00 for 2 day delivery is absurd. Where are the books coming from, Liberia? Naturally, I selected regular shipping, which in fact a week later no books arrived. I had to cancel the orders for fear of not receiving them in time (I needed them by the next day). I ordered from another reliable source who also offers next day prime fast shipping for free. Secondly, the customer service representative was pleasant; however, she didn't seem to know why things were this way. Except that "Chegg was really busy because school just started".

I think that answer is absurd since most people order books 'when school starts', so Chegg should incorporate the manpower to fulfill the ordering capacity of each semester. Also, I ordered a book and received what I thought was a free 7-day digital book to use until the actual book arrived. But, it was in fact a digital order with no book on the way, I had to cancel that order. I now have to wait a few weeks to hopefully have over $200 returned to my credit card. What a hassle.

Basically, I've had more headaches than books received this semester doing business with Chegg. They have now been put to the bottom of my user list. I will only use them if my other options are not available. I also recommend them to my peers with extreme caution.

I don't understand a lot of the reviews here. Many of them are not the fault of the company. Never heard about the company before, but got charged? Not the company's fault your credit card number was used/stolen. Also they DO verify the card. Returned book late and had fees/charged for a new one? Not the company’s fault you didn't return your book on time. How are they supposed to know you're actually sending it back? The homework help is wrong? Not the company's fault that customers put the wrong answer. It's not considered harassment if they're calling to find out about their books. Only got one volume out of 3 you listed as needing? You only ordered 1, not the company's fault. Also not their fault if they no longer have the book available that you want.

Returned books late and they took the fee out later than you wanted, causing your account to be overdrawn? Not the company's fault they received all the books later (like they had stated), also not their fault if you didn't have enough money in your account to cover said fees. Ordered a book, they didn't have it, and it's taking time to get a refund when it didn't take time for them to take money out? You're charged as soon as you order the books, of COURSE it's going to take time to get it refunded.

Questions not being answered on the homework help part? Not the company’s fault no one is answering it. Didn't return book (wanting to return later) and being charged for a new one? Company won't buy back said book until you pay the fee? Not the company's fault. You have a bill due to not returning the book-- duh. They're not going to BUY BACK a book you RENTED from them. Maybe you should have returned it on time, or need to call and straighten things out.

Hit with a charge on your bank account and not a student? You need to work that out with your bank. Not the company's fault. Charged more than you thought and account is now overdrawn? You clearly state the amount and that's what it said the total was, no shocker. They said they would fix it, but it took 3-5 days to get it refunded? Not a big deal, that happens at other places when errors occur. I had that same problem when I tried to pay for a laser tag birthday party. They were taking out the right amount and THEN were going to refund the others. Things like that happen. Not like they did it on purpose. Charged and didn't order anything? Sounds like identity theft. Not the company's fault. Being charged even though you sent the books back? Ever think that they got lost in the mail?

I have never had a problem with Chegg at all. But I also keep tabs on my money, as well as where I'm putting my personal information. I also send my books back on time, and double check what I'm ordering before I order. Common sense could have prevented quite a few of these issues.

They then told me to give it 5 more days because it actually takes up to 15 business days. I waited. A few days after the 15 days I called back and was told they didn't know why I hadn't received it. They then told me they were going to send out another check. Here it is about to enter a 3rd month and I have yet to receive my money. I called today, they told me that they sent out a 3rd check yesterday because they received the second check back.

Now what I don't understand is I've always used the same address for all purchases. Now when it's their turn to pay me there's something wrong with the address. I asked what do I do when I don't receive the third check. I was told that I would then have to wait another 15 days. I want to know what should I do because I'm more than sure they've sold or sent out my book to someone else. And to be honest I don't want it back. After a quick phone call, they sent an email with the packing label to print. Mistakenly, I sent books back with the wrong label. As a result, my account was not credited for two of the books. As soon as I received an email telling me that my credit card had been charged (as is explained in the rental terms and agreement), I chatted online and within minutes the problem was rectified. I started using Chegg in high school because I was a double up student (went to high school for part of the day, college the other part). I had great service back then, 2009-2010, but as I actually got into college courses Chegg just went downhill. This past semester I ordered my books, and they get to my house pretty fast usually and are usually nice, decent books. Not this time! I decided to buy one of my books because I wanted to keep it. It was covered in stickers that had been ripped off, and the overall condition was fair. Now let's get to my other books. One had highlighting in it so bad that I found it extremely hard to focus when reading, the other had creased pages like crazy, and the other one was in bad condition too. I'm more pissed about the fact that the book I rented was so bad. Not only that, but the dang box that the books came in! Holy cow was that awful!! If my books had arrived a day or two earlier they would have been soaked due to rain!!

I was so extremely pissed! Still am, because not all of my books fit back in there for the return. So those stupid idiots got their books shoved back in there. I had to duct tape the box like there was no tomorrow because I did not want to be liable for it and have to pay those cheap idiots. So I sent them an e-mail, and right away they called me. I told them that I did not want to send it back because I had just started the class and needed the book. Well they decided to harass me a few more times before giving up. I have never had such bad books or service before in my life! Back in the day they gave me a coupon because I was not satisfied, now you just get harassed. I am never going to use Chegg again. I have found that most of my books from the bookstore now are cheaper than this.

We take this matter seriously and were sorry to inform you that your account has been terminated as a result of this behavior. I called again and finally another representative informed me that they were not going to buy my book. She asked if I wanted it back. Why wouldn't I? It's my book. I asked why I never heard anything or why they wouldn't send it back automatically and she stated, "It just sits there until someone calls asking for it." Absurd. I have never heard of a company being as lazy as to not even inform customers regarding their book status. Honestly, its scam-like.

After years of using Chegg and being very satisfied, I will not be using them ever again after this semester. I ordered only one book this semester The Longman Anthology World Literature Volumes A, B and C. when the book arrived I assumed it was the right one considering my past experiences with the website. When I started my online class I noticed I had only received volume C. I called Chegg and explained the situation. The student advisor explained the other volumes would be shipped out to me immediately.

After not receiving anything for a week, I began to wonder since I was missing assignments in this class because of not having my book. Today, I called and the person I spoke with was very kind but simply informed me that I had been refunded the cost of the book and it was no longer available. This is very unprofessional and truly a let-down. After years of using Chegg and recommending it to many, all I have now is this story and the wrong book.

Each time I called them back and they promised they would cancel my subscription and that the charges would stop. I assumed this was happening until I happened to check my bank statement and saw a charge from them this January. I was tired of calling them so I called Bank of America to report a fraudulent charge. It turns out they have been charging me consistently for multiple years. On 8/19/2013, I added 3 textbooks that I needed into the company's shopping cart. When I selected "next," the site showed my $100 in "Chegg credit" I entered the coupon code they had previously emailed to me to get 15% off my order. The order total indicated $122.94. I expected my order to be reduced to $104.49, my Chegg credit to cover all but roughly $4 and to only have to pay the 4 dollars from my PayPal account. When I selected "check-out," $122.94 was taken out of my PayPal account. The site said my order was under $70 so my coupon wasn't valid. I called Chegg instantly because I knew I didn't have that much money in my bank account. The woman assured me at Chegg that she refunded the money and also issued a refund for the 15% off coupon. I asked her if the refund was instant and she said it was. This whole issue was a problem with their website and took less than 10 minutes.

Two days later I was puzzled when my debit card was denied for a $20 lunch. I found out after logging into my account that it was overdrawn for almost $90. Chegg did not refund the money they promised. They issued several different refunds that added up to $122.94 that had 3-5 day holds. Then instead of issuing me a refund for the 15% off coupon, they charged me another $22.94. So $145.88 was taken out of my account without authorization from me. They then added a $25.34 Chegg credit I didn't ask for, and my PayPal account overdrew my bank account. My bank account charged me a $29 fee for over drafting plus the $145.88.

I'm now having to dispute the transaction at my bank, but in the meantime my account is overdrawn and being charged a daily fee for their error. I called Chegg and after 20 minutes of talking to their representative, they offered to send me a check for the $25.35. Their error has cost me $29 overdraft, $145.88 being tied up for 3-5 business days. I am unable to put gas in my car or groceries in my fridge. After asking them to remove my payment information from their system they said it was not possible.

I had to physically go to my bank and fill out an electronic dispute form. I spend approximately 45 minutes at my bank. I spent approximately 40 minutes on the phone with Chegg, and I spent 20 minutes on the phone with PayPal. This company is negligent and incompetent.

I tried going online for customer assistance but NONE of their links work; no phone number is listed and there is no email.

I decided to review with my bank. They got me the customer service number where the most ignorant rep I have ever spoken with said, "Oh yeah, no refund has been processed... I will get it started but it's going to take another 5 days." I then asked to speak to a manager and she said, "Oh, they don't take phone calls." I am outraged!!! This might not be a lot of money but they should be aware of the issues they have on their website... I'm still waiting for a call back from a so-called manager.

With the Spring semester quickly approaching, I ordered my books from Chegg.com in mid-December. This is a full month before classes start and the earliest my professors even posted what books they use. I figured, even if there is a mix-up, I'll have plenty of time to fix them right? WRONG! I received one confirmation email not telling me when my books should be sent out. No biggie. I'll just check the site. January 2nd was the date provided on my account. So when January 8th rolled in and no books or emails, I got concerned. My phone was not working at the time and emails were not responded to, so I turned to Twitter as suggested. I told them my situation and gave them my order number. They responded an hour later, telling me they will resend my books and I should receive them by the 12th. Classes start the 21st. I can live with that.

So again I waited... No emails, no books. I tried Twitter again and waited 1 1/2 hours, only to be told that now they can't help and I have to call. So I called. The lady told me basically the same thing the first Twitter chat told me. They will resend and to expect them by the 18th, premium shipping. Once again, no emails... no books. By now I would have demanded a refund and gone through somewhere else, only classes start in 3 days and no one has my books anymore EXCEPT Chegg. I called one final time. They no longer have my books and must order them from somewhere else. Oh and for the inconvenience, I got a 10% off coupon for my next purchase (which expired in 2 months).

So a week into the semester, I received most of my books and the rest are on the way. The end? No, I specifically ordered my Psych book to come with an access code for a website. I paid for it. I wanted it. I got the book with NO access code!! Of course, when I go to customer service, their access codes aren't guaranteed and that it's the buyer/renter's responsibility to know that. They don't give your money back nor will they send you a working code. Despite the fact that you just spent an extra $40 to get one with no prompt warning you, you might not get it at all! Ha! Oh and since they were a month late shipping my books, I should get an extra month's rental worth right? Nope. Due the same day as if they were shipped on time and correctly. But be late 3 days and they charge you another $20 per book to extend your rental 15 days.

I know their low prices may SEEM attractive to the thrifty, broke college student. But you WILL lose that saved money by giving it all back to this company in some way or by not receiving the product you need for class.

I Googled a question from one of my textbooks and found a link to Chegg. They had the exact question from my textbook posted with a purported answer that was faded out. I was prompted to start a 7-day free trial, after which, the answer to my question would become visible. After linking my PayPal to a new account, I went back to find the answer that was previously blurred. It was still blurred, and I was still being prompted to start a 7-day trial. I refreshed several times, and eventually the answer just disappeared. They just posted a graphic under a false username that looked like an answer to the question, when none actually existed. I then read some reviews on the company and discovered they had a long history of fraudulent practices and attempted to cancel my account. I could find nowhere to cancel my account on the website, and so I had to call PayPal to block any transactions from the company.

Summary: They fish for customers by purporting to have answers to textbook questions that aren't actually posted. After signing up for a trial version, there is no way to cancel your account. This entire website is a sham.

She got another guaranteed delivery date, but it didn't show up. She called again, and the customer service person told her that the order got hung up in the system. She just needs to order it from someone else, and they would credit our credit card for the book. What the hell kind of answer is that?

I was in sales for 23 years. If I told a customer that, I would have lost the customer and probably my job. We had to order the book from Amazon and it came the next day, but it was a lot more expensive as it was a brand new one. Amazon has the best service in the world. There was no problem receiving the credits within four days of selling the books. This time, I requested cash instead of credits and it has been almost two weeks. I achieved around 29000 points in a week, enough for a $100 Amazon gift card. I had a 4.7 star rating. Chegg Education posted six charges to our bank account using my credit card number. We had never heard of this company and never purchased anything from them. I called the company and American Express answered the phone. They stated that they "handle the transactions" for this company. I explained that an error must have occurred and was told that they don't handle that kind of transaction, to hold on while he transferred me. After a 10 min hold, I got a woman on the phone and told her the same thing. She asked me for the order number.

I explained there was no order number since I never purchased anything. She said that she can't help me if I don't have an order number. I started at the beginning, thinking she must not have understood. She then yelled at me that they don't handle anything unless I have an order number and told me to call my bank. She then hung up.

I called the bank, told them what had happened and cancelled my credit card (of course). Wells Fargo was nice and told me the money was now on hold for 10-15 days while they "investigate" the claim. She told me that the charges had been "authorized" but they had not been posted to my account yet and they had to wait for the company to actually post the charges. I said, "What? Then the transaction hasn't happened yet?" She said, "Not yet, but payment has been authorized." I told her, "I didn't authorize it, I want the charges stopped." I was told they don't do this, that it is against company policy.

A company sends in a request for "authorization" when you purchase something. The bank says yes or no, and then the company has 3 days to actually 'post' the charges and collect the money.

So, Chegg Education illegally used my credit card, the money has not yet been paid by my bank, but my bank will not stop the transaction from going through and we are the ones penalized for it. Go figure. Now we are out several hundred dollars until the bank "investigates" and decides if they are going to refund the money. According to a Google search on this Chegg Education, there are many, many complaints of this company doing this to other people. Nothing has been done about it so far.

Most were poorly answered, and now they introduced a new system of 5000 points each month. A question can have 300pts, 750, or 1500pts. The minimum points of 300 per question means you can only ask a maximum of 16 questions per month, which will definitely get a poor answer, but nobody will actually answer a 300 point question when a 1500 is waiting. Also the time to get an answer was slashed from 6 hours to 4. Then after your points get over, you can't ask anymore but buy more points at a very high cost. They only bought Cramster to make money off of it, but this will backfire.

I have called them four times in the last 7 months asking to cancel their billing me (about 15 dollars a month for what I don't know), and each time I was told that they would take care of it and every month I was billed again. I just left another message, because when you are given the option to talk to customer service directly, you're actually sent into a voice mail that sounds like someone's personal voice mail. This time when I left a message, I asked that they stop billing me and that they refund the funds they have taken since the first time I asked them to not bill me moving forward.

What else can someone do in this situation? I talked to my bank and I can cancel my card and have a new one issued so that they cannot bill it. However, I am wondering, as this is not paying them rather than them canceling your account, if could it affect my credit or be considered as non-payment? I can't believe companies can do this kind of thing. After reading other reviews, it sounds like this company is extremely unethical in their business practices anyways. Stay away from Chegg. If anyone is having the same issues as I am, please write about it here. Perhaps reporting them or taking some kind of legal action is in order at this point. This is stealing.

Last semester, I needed a book in the 14th edition, which I ordered from Chegg. I received the 13th edition of the book. Although it became a pain in the neck since the tests referenced specific item numbers from the 14th edition that I had to borrow from a classmate weekly and translate my notes, I made due. I didn't find it such a grave offense. I didn't have time to deal with returning and ordering a new book (Financial Aid doesn't exactly arrive ahead of schedule). I figured the rest of the books they sent me were correct. I saved some money (not the 70-80% that these "reviews" online are claiming), but enough to give them another chance.

Fast forward 5 months and here I sit, once again with Chegg's incompetence threatening my GPA. I ordered a textbook from Chegg that requires an Access Code for Online content that was required by my course. Now I know that they provide a disclaimer that they cannot guarantee supplementary materials, but the one thing I needed and that was literally specified in the product title was not included. I ordered the textbook plus Access package and paid extra for it and received the textbook. After two hours, I was refunded the difference between the package with the access and without. I now don't have enough money to purchase the access code standalone since the VA wants to take their sweet time paying my book stipend, and I drained my Bank account to 8 whopping bucks buying my textbooks.

I had to drop a class because I couldn't afford to order the textbooks. This is stellar. Thanks, Chegg; you've once again proven yourselves worthless. Their only explanation for this situation was that they cannot alter the title that the publisher has created. This is the equivalent of me offering to sell you a V-8 Camaro SS and then swapping a V-6 into it the day before you buy it and saying that it's what Chevy called it.

Between these two problems, you're better off buying your books and trying to resell them. If you're that desperate to save the money, consider student loans, it would have been worth it to not have to worry about getting the right materials for my classes. Lesson learned.

The concept of Chegg online textbooks is very useful and appealing but the way Chegg has executed it is the cause for more frustration than its worth. The prominent reason I was drawn to an eTextbook was for the search feature. The ability to search your entire textbook for words or quotations would be extremely useful but again, it was poorly executed. When searching, there are two options; to search the entire textbook or search the chapter that you are currently viewing. The chapter search option (which is the one I wish to sue the most) is an utter failure. For instance, I want to search the word 'Congress' in the chapter I am reading on the US Congress. I go to the search function to and enter the word 'congress' and it tells me that that word cannot be found anywhere in the chapter, which is false because I can clearly see that word written many times on the page that I am looking out.

This was a huge letdown to find out that it absolutely sucked. Additionally, they only keep about two or three pages of text loaded so it is pretty difficult to skim the text looking for something like you would turn through the pages of a textbook. Bottom line: cool concept, poor execution.

It is well worth renting books for half the price and not being able to sell them back to a campus bookstore for three dollars. Two things that confuse me about people's complaints are: (1) They clearly tell you the due dates for each of your books when you rent them. When you sign into your account, next to each book that you have there is a pink box with the due date in it! The due date should not come as a surprise to anyone ever. (2) The return labels? When you click return and select your books, you are prompted to click on a big box that says "print label". You do not even have to save your original one.

Last semester, I sold them a book that I got at a bookstore and it brought me directly to a page that had a packing slip and shipping label to print. I do not understand what the problem could be with this. As long as you know what you actually want when you click order, there should not be a problem. Put a calender date in your phone or write it down on an actual calendar, but do something rather than forgetting to return them then complaining.

A year ago, I returned a book to Chegg that I had actually bought from another vendor. I realized this as soon as the shipment went out so I called Chegg customer service to ask that the book be returned to me. I spoke to three customer service reps (and I use the term loosely), who said that they would look into it. The book was never returned nor did I receive credit. I let this go because how much time can one spend on repeat calls to the same company? I was willing to let it go but I just received two emails from Chegg telling me that two other books which I should not have returned to them were going to be considered as donations because I did not contact them within 30 days of receiving them. Here's the thing: I screwed up on that. Frankly, I didn't realize that they had been Chegg purchases rather than rentals.

However, why didn't Chegg email me about my error immediately, letting me know that I had the option of having the books returned? They waited five months before alerting me that I could have requested a return within 30 days of sending the books to them. But here's the thing: When I did alert them about a book, nothing was done to return the book or offer me credit. So I called Chegg. My customer service rep told me that there was nothing that could be done because too much time had passed. After a dissatisfying 10 minutes with him, I asked to speak to a supervisor. When Jerry came on, he told me that he could give me credit for the two books because they had waited so long to alert me.

Just as I was asking about credit for the original book I had called about (which Chegg has had the opportunity to rent out twice), the line disconnected. I called back and of course could not get back to Jerry. My new customer service rep went to her supervisor fairly quickly, came back on the line to tell me about crediting my account, but somehow we were disconnected when I asked about my original book. I had given her my name and phone number but I have not received a call from her. Frankly, I'm fine with not receiving the Chegg credit because I will never rent another book from them. You shouldn't either.

So I was told that I could rent books from this company and save some money. Well, I ordered my books on 1/19/11 and did Next Day Air. Well came 1/21/11, I called Chegg and they refunded me my shipping and told me they would reorder my books. On 1/21/11, my books were reordered and I was told they were expedited. Well here it is, 1/25/11, and I still do not have my books. The supervisors promised me that if I did not receive them, I would be refunded my money on 1/24/11. When I called them, I was told that I had to return the books that I do not have before I could get the refund. The lady supervisor that I talked to mailed out the books again on 1/25/11 and told me I would get them on 1/26/11. **!

I have been waiting on my books since I first ordered them and they refused to refund my money until they get the books back. I will never ever use their services again. I'm still waiting on my refund from the 1/21/11 and it was not even posted for some apparent reason. Every place that I have made return on my card shows that it was being returned except for my order from Chegg. I will return their books when I get my refund. Please people, look into this company before you purchase your books. I talked to 12 representatives, with 5 being supervisors. Never again.

Chegg charged me an "extension fee" for not getting my books to them on time. The thing is they never warn you. They send you numerous emails which all look like ads. None of them directly address me as a consumer or have any language that warns you that time is running out. The only time I received such courtesy is when they told me my card was charged the fee, when time had already run out. They called and left a message telling me I could return my books to the campus bookstore. In that message they did not say, "get them to us by such and such date or else a fee will be charged to your account".

This is a shady way to collect fees. I have no doubt it is in the fine print, and this is how their company collects fees, they do not have any kind of courtesy to warn someone that they are getting close to a due date. They just charge you the fee and tell you it is non-refundable. I’m very dissatisfied.

I have used Chegg very happily for 3 years for textbooks for my two college students. 1 daughter lost a textbook which we were charged for. It was a totally appropriate action. This semester our books were supposed to be postmarked December 17, one day after the semester ended. On Sunday, December 19, Chegg charged our card nearly $700 for book purchases! We had a thank you for your purchase email stating our account would be credited after they received the books as long as it was before December 25.

The books got there on the 22nd, we were then told the refund would take 3 to 5 days. $700 was falsely removed for our bank account Christmas week. How would this affect most people? We have used Chegg for years. I recommend Chegg to many others (I work in a library) but we will no longer use Chegg and will tell others to beware. Merry Christmas from Chegg?

Ended up not using the code, returned it for supposed refund and then they claim that since they are not the publisher they can't guarantee code will be included so can't credit for the unopened code. This is not a matter of I didn't read their description or policy, it was stated in their listing and again confirmed in their email receipt to me. Since they won't credit as per their own policy, I asked that the code packet be returned and they won't do that either. They simply re-rent it at full price since it was never opened.

When the text arrived the spine was completely broken and there was no registration code included. I immediately called customer service - they obviously deal with this issue repeatedly as she clearly responded with a memorized stock paragraph - apparently their return policy states supplemental materials are not guaranteed - and in fact if the customer service representative is to be taken at her word are actually never even included at all.

Although this information IS included in the return policy it was NOT listed clearly when I rented the book. The customer service associate was not at all considerate or helpful. The entire transaction felt shady and manipulative. It is not difficult or outrageous to verify if a registration card is included in an order - the customer service representatives attitude implied I had asked if they were going to read the book to me after I received it. I even asked if it was possible for them to ship a registration code separately - that's when she responded with "we don't even have the registration codes. " If the registration code is included in the title and the ISBN it should be included with the rental or not available for rent. The associate (after 2 more calls) offered to refund my shipping - I will be surprised if it is actually refunded. No one with Chegg was apologetic.

How about don't be irresponsible and lose your return label, or how about returning your book on time. Account for the shipping time, these things are easy. As far as the code, I use one every time and it has always worked. Those codes are from chegg champions who are actually college students who have signed up for an incentive program, so why would they not work? I contacted Chegg three times from June 21 to July 8. This complaint is regards to a textbook ordered on 6/24/10 with "Next Day Air." Today is Monday, June 28, approximately 3:30pm; and it still has not arrived. I had specifically ordered this book with Next Day Air, because I needed it promptly. I expected to get the textbook either on Friday (June 25) or Saturday (June 26). Only after I completed my order, did I get a confirmation saying that I would get the book either on June 28 or June 29. You must agree that "Next Day Air" does not denote this kind of delivery, and because of Chegg's policy, there was no way to cancel an order even immediately after placing it.

After contacting UPS about my package, I further learned that what Chegg supplies is not "Next Day Air," but "Next Day Air SAVER," which is the difference between getting a package either in the morning or up to 7PM. Another important distinction is that "Next Day Air SAVER" does not deliver on Saturdays, while "Next Day Air" does deliver on Saturdays. Chegg, unfortunately, does not make this discrepancy clear to its customers. If this information had been readily available, I would not have paid $15.99 for a book that has taken over 4-5 days to receive.

A further look at Chegg's shipping policy shows the rates and amount of time it will take. For every shipping method, it states however many "business days" it will take, but for "Next Day Air," it states "next day." I think this is not only very misleading, but also untrue. Chegg ships "Next Day Air SAVER." It was a waste of money to have a book shipped at this rate. I also was not able to do my homework because of the late arrival.

This is not the first problem I have had with Chegg. I began renting from Chegg.com, because I believed it to be a reputable company with many "satisfied" customers, many being students like my self.

In the past, 1) I have had to wait 2 months to get my Chegg debit cash cards even after I complained and had emails saying it would arrive in "5 days." 2) Later when I tried to transfer that money into my regular checking account from the Chegg website, Chegg only transferred one debit card (the smaller amount) and not the other. 3) I have also had books sent to me that are readable but have been saturated with water stains and ripples throughout the whole book (when Chegg clearly states that they only "buy" books that do not have water stains.)

So, I packed up the book and CD that came with it and mailed it within a week, and waited to hear from the company as stated on their website. However, I never received an email or a letter in the mail stating that my book was received by Chegg.com or when I would be receiving my check. So, I contacted the live chat service, and the representative stated that they have received my book, but notice they did not contact me as they stated they would when I received my quote, but I would only be getting about $30.00 for it because the book had a different ISBN# than the one I had received the quote for.

When I asked him how that could be possible because when I put in the ISBN# a picture and description of my book came up, he stated that I sent in a book without the CD, which is grossly untrue! Because my quote had magically decreased by an amount of $40.00, I put in a request to have my book and CD returned to me. He claimed that they had no record of receiving the CD included with the book, but I informed him that if I received my book back without my CD they would be hearing from me again. They quoted me the highest buyback compared to other websites and they offered free shipping. So I print out the packaging slip, prepaid postage, packed and shipped my books. A week later, I got an email and it stated I would only receive $30 less than what was stated. I talked to their representative, Eri, and she said the condition of my books were not what they thought it would be. The books I sold were all new, straight from the manufacturer. There was never a need for them and it just sat in the box. I couldn't send it back because it was past its return policy so my next option was to sell it. Eri said it was not new because it wasn't shrink wrapped. I told her not all textbooks come shrink wrapped and asked if it’s their policy that if a book wasn't shrink wrapped, that it would be considered used. She said yes. Then she went on to say that if the book is almost brand new that they would consider it as brand new. Are you confused yet?

First they tell me if it’s not shrink wrapped then it’s not considered new. Then they tell me if I think it’s almost brand new that they would consider it brand new even though it’s not shrink wrapped. I also inquired about a coupon I entered and they accepted, which would get me another $5, but they said they have no record of it. Yeah, right, then why would their system accept it? I told them if it was accepted, then they would find it in their system. After going back and forth on this issue, Eri went ahead and did me a "courtesy" of approving the $5. She told me it would take 1-3 business days to process and expect it to arrive via mail, but it’s now 1 month and I haven’t received it. I Googled "Chegg rip-off" and found this website. I called their customer service to inform them about it and the lady was so rude! All she said was, "Oh yeah, they sent you the really wrong book." No apology or anything. I asked her what exactly they were going to do to fix their mistake and she said, "Well, we issued a refund so if you want the correct book, you need to order again." Most companies, when they make a mistake like that, would at least offer to ship it faster free of charge or something. This company could not care less about their customers. I will never rent from them again and I will make sure to tell all of my other friends in college not to use them either after the way they handled the situation.

I have bought all my textbook online for my college and post-college years. I found this book on Chegg online. They did not specify it was a rental and cost fifty bucks for three months. Now, they want the book back. I tried to sell all of my math books of which I paid at least fifty each. They only paid $5.00 for one of the books which is lower than the campus buy back. Nevertheless, I shipped all of them way back to them. I will report this company to any agency that regulate internet ordering, so chegg.com would not rip off any more naive students.

I have always ordered from Chegg since day one, yet last month, I went to order a Stats book and was told they had none in stock. I called and was told that all the books are rented out, but to check back at 3:00 on Friday because 2 are expected back by then and should be logged in as available. I asked if they planned on ordering more so that they can fulfill our orders. She said she's let her manager know that there are 30 students who will be looking to rent from Chegg. I then checked back several days later and was still given "currently unavailable". I called once again to see if they can tell me when they plan on getting more in (as they all have due dates). I was told it was impossible to tell.
I asked if someone had contacted the publisher in order to buy more books. I was told no. I then found another student who was willing to sell her book to me, so I went into Chegg.com to added the books number to see how much they would buy the book from. Much to my surprise, CHEGG.COM WAS NOT INTERESTED in buying any more books (even tho they didn't have enough to rent out). I called them on that and they said "oh, the publisher is in the middle of publishing an updated one, therefore these will be obsolete and unrentable soon enough." I understood their logic, but has since found out that the book they currently do not have enough copies of is a rather new edition. They still do not have enough books to rent, they are not interested in buying them back from students BUT they will sell you one AT FULL PRICE with the option of you returning the new one AND GETTING LESS MONEY BACK. I DON'T GET IT. I E-mailed them concerns in the hopes that someone will reply with an 1/2 way intelligent response so that they can keep me as a customer (and the other 29 students in my class)... AND they did respond, but their response was. It looks like you have already received a response via the phone. I've now decided to rent my books from www.campusbookrentals.com and have had no problems.

I have ordered several times from Chegg, and nearly every time, I have had fine service with no problems. But one time, one of my books never came. I emailed customer service several times, and would get canned responses, or responses asking for more information, like the ISBN of the book. Then, nothing. I was somewhat lax about contacting them, as it turned out I didn't actually need the book for the class. But eventually I called to say that my finals were in a few weeks, and I still hadn't received either the book or a refund. I was issued a full refund check in the mail. All in all, not horrible, but I wish they would be a bit more helpful and responsive by email.

I ordered 3 used texts from Chegg online at a good price. The books had the accompanying lab named right on the title and the other book said it had the Quickbooks CD which when rec'd and opened had a new looking CD to load Quick Books with a license number etc.
Well the one book had no lab, I had homework due, called Chegg and was told that they have a disclaimer in small writing that used book's assesories May not work. We had to order overnight from another company. Now today I am trying to load the QuickBooks and am getting a licensing error. I again called Chegg and got a supervisor who was not sympathetic at all only offered to send us a return label. Again he said Accessories may not work on used books. I asked him since he was in the business of renting used books, and apparently none of the accessories such as labs and cd's work, why is he even selling these books? I asked him isn't he inundated with angry students [like me] who is missing crucial assignments while I am ordering books and accessories that work from other companies? He said most students just want used books and don't use accessories. [I know this is not true, you can do homework involving QuickBooks without downloading the disc.] So basically this company is renting useless books and causing Student's GPA's to go down through their false advertising. If the books title and label say that the accessory is included, it should be included and work perfectly. I will never order from Chegg.com again and discourage anyone from doing so. They don't care about their students. Dave D. bordered upon rude he was so glib and non caring.

I placed an order on August 29, 2008. Most of my books arrived in a timely fashion, but a book for a class that I had dropped took over two weeks to arrive. I sent the book back the day after I received it,which was September 19th. I was told that my refund would take a few weeks to process, so I waited until November 9th to contact them. I did not receive a response, so I contacted them again on November 19th. November 20th, I received an email saying my refund has been processed, and should be reflected on my credit card account in 3-4 business days. My statement indicated I never received the refund. I contacted Chegg again on December 23rd, and was told that they never processed the refund, and that they would have to mail a check, which they planned to mail on Monday December 29th. I contacted them again on January 5th, and now they say it will take a few weeks. I have no job, and I really need the $60. They have been unapologetic, and nobody seems to care. I have been late on my car payment, and I was $50 short. Now I have $40 in late fees, which I would not have incurred if Chegg had processed my return two months ago, when the said they would.
