Like so many other complainants, Classmates claims that 'auto renew' was on my trial reduced price GOLD sign-up. I do not recall seeing that and I would not have selected it. If Classmates.com has pre-filled the option, they should be REQUIRED to send out reminders. I have been trying to cancel my membership but they won't honor my request. When I attempted to cancel my membership, all I got was a white screen after selecting membership information until it was too late according to them). Classmates.com has charged my credit card account $39 without my approval. I want to end my association with Classmates.com but they say they are keeping my money. They have no phone number and you cannot speak with a person. They are scammers, claiming that old Classmates are trying to contact me, but the Classmates were not. How can a company that takes advantage of people (especially the elderly and disabled) like this be allowed to continue to operate?

Like others, on Dec. 23rd 2008, I got charged an automatic renewal for gold membership without consent. I was a gold member in 2006 to scope out info on my 10 year reunion. They kept my credit card information, even after it had expired and charged me $39.00 for a renewal last month. I've been working with my bank to get the charge back. All they need is me to call Classmates and prove they refuse a refund, and my bank will refund the money for me. What a scam! I had to cancel my credit card and send for a new one.

If Classmates.com has pre-filled the option, they should be REQUIRED to send out reminders. I have registered a charge dispute with my credit card company and advised them of this website so they can see how many people are having this same problem. I went in to my profile on Classmates.com to ensure I am no longer on auto renew. I will also add this info to my Classmates.com profile so that anyone reading it might heed the warning. I intend to end my association with Classmates.com.

I was charged $39 on 23 Dec. 08. After looking back at my records, I saw that I had joined Classmates.com on 23 Dec 07 for $9.95. I wrote to complain about this charge without my permission and was informed that, "While purchasing your Gold membership, you were provided with information just above the Submit Payment? button explaining that all memberships are enrolled in our automatic renewal program." I did not recall any information about automatic renewal and had difficulty finding the information about that and how to prevent the charge in the future. What was NOT addressed about my complaint was the fact the charge quadrupled. I also feel that automatic renewals should provide the consumer with some reminder. We sign up a YEAR before we are charged again. I do not recall agreeing to the renewal and am VERY unhappy. I am still talking with them and will be talking with my credit card company at my earliest opportunity.

I had a Gold Membership with Classmates.com which was scheduled to automatically renew on Dec 1, 2008. Two weeks prior to that time, I went to the web site with the intent to set my account to NOT renew. When on that web page, it was clearly stated that I could renew (12 months) for $9.95. I decided to let it renew. When I received my Visa statement, I saw Classmates.com had charged me $39.00 for the renewal. I've already attempted to clear the matter with their Member Service dept with no success. They simply told me that this charge is non-refundable and I agreed to automatic renewal. This is not the amount I agreed to when I renewed membership. I have copies of my Email correspondence with them.

I have a regular (free) Classmates.com account. Last week, for the first time ever, I got email stating that someone had signed my guestbook. But the name of the person was glossed over in the email. They claimed that if I paid for a Gold subscription ($19.99) I could view my guestbook. Like a sucker, I did it. The name in my guestbook was of someone I'd never heard of. I sent that person email to find out who they were and never heard back. Two days later I got another signee. I'd never heard of this woman either but noticed that she was from my old high school (although she graduated 6 years before I was even born!) and that she had similar interests to me. I wrote to her to ask who she was and if she'd signed my guestbook. She wrote back immediately to say that she did not and that she'd never heard of me either.
This is obviously a huge scam, where Classmates.com just fudges almost-random names into your guestbook in order to get you to pay their fee (and in the further hope that you won't cancel the automatic renewal to your credit card). I'm betting the poor slob whose name they fudged into my guestbook will have to pay to see the email I sent him, asking if he really signed my guestbook. Multiply this self-perpetuating scheme by 40 million suckers and you can see how they make their money!

I signed up with Classmates.com yesterday, and I realize today that it is a terrible scam. I paid $39, which it seems will be renewed at the end of a year, whether I want it or not. The complaints about Classmates.com seem to be flooding your website. What are you doing about it? I expected to find out where some of my old classmates live--specifically, not the same general map for everyone. Not one of the people that they name has offered a story, not one has sent a picture. In other words, they have listed names without any information about these people. This scam needs to be exposed before other innocents get trapped. Please respond.

I signed up for a 3-month membership and my checking account was debited immediately for $15.00. I have never been able to access the site. When I emailed them, they responded back by saying I had a one-week free membership. Numerous attempts to get a phone number, live person, money refunded, have been unsuccessful. They just keep sending the same computer generated response that doesn't apply to my situation. If you are thinking about signing up for Classmates.com, DON'T! This is a scam and after reading other consumer complaints, it is impossible to cancel your membership once they have your bank information.

I signed up for Classmates.com 1 year ago when I moved back to the city. Since then I think I have logged in 2 times. I got charged on 10/6/08 $39 for another year. I emailed Classmates and said I did not want this and to cancel. They pretty much told me too bad. I guess when you sign up they automatically sign you up for auto renewal at the end of your term. You have to go in and change this after the sign up process, if you don't they keep charging you. They give no notice at the end of your term that a new charge is coming. The only reason I know is because I looked at my credit card statement. I wonder how many people don't do this and keep getting charged once a year.
Their customer service (email only since that is the only way) could care less. I tried to go the correct way and contact them, but they only care about screwing you so I have contacted my credit card company and am looking at whatever I can do to pursue this further. This should be against the law. Even companies such as a gym which charge you each month, still sends a statement/invoice.

NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I FILL IN THAT INFORMATION AND TRY TO SAVE IT AND ENTER IT - IT DOES NOT WORK...
I HAVE TRIED TO GET THEIR ON LINE HELP CENTER AND CANNOT GET ANYTHING. SO I DECIDED TO TRY THIS AVENUE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM AND GET MY PROBLEM STRAIGHTENED OUT IN ORDER TO OPEN MY MAIL FROM CLASSMATES. COM.... Their page sent to me will not let me get into my mail - if I have anything. Or into what ever they say is happening that concerns me as noted in their mail to me... It sends me back to the LOG-IN page everytime... Same old cycle with no results....very irritating -- and I don't get any results when I try the on line help center way either.. I signed up for 3 months service ($15.00) at Classmates.com in June 2008. When I received my September statement from my credit card company, Classmates had charged me with another $15. I contacted Classmates and was told that I had agreed to this. I did not knowingly agree - it must have been in the small print. She would not reverse the charges and told me I had use of Classmates.com until 12/3/08. Lucky me. I told her to change my status so I would not be billed AGAIN. I went online and checked and she had changed the status to manual instead of automatic. I removed my credit card number from their system.
My credit card company wasn't any help either. The first person I spoke with said it was not a nice practice and he would remove the charge, then he put me through to the Disputes department and he said they couldn't remove the charge. It's not so much the money as the principle of being charged without my knowledge. Classmates.com should be forced to at least send an email saying they have charged your credit card account or are about to do so. They must make thousands of dollars off consumers.

I have been trying to reach someone via the phone since June '08 so I could enroll into the Gold membership for three months only. I saw online that you could not enroll without automatically being charged again upon expiration. I wanted to do it live via phone so I would not be re-enrolled after expiration. I am planning a class reunion party so I wanted to use this tool very much. Well, after trying for a solid three months to reach someone live, I FINALLY GIVE UP. God forbid anyone who gives this site their credit card number...I have a feeling something shady is going on at Classmates.com now.
I have been a member since 2000 and I do not recall ever having trouble in the past, I was never automatically renewed when I joined before. Bottom line, why would a legit company make it so difficult to reach someone live? I hope someone trys to investigate this further, because it would be a great tool to get reunions together, but it's not worth getting your credit card intercepted knowing that you can not reach anybody live ever. They tool money out of my account that I did not authorize them to do. I was trying a FREE trial on classmates and they charged me for the full service. I never authorized them to take money out of my account. I have tried to contact them about this, but they refuse to respond.
They overdrew my account costing me $35.00 in overdraft fees plus the $39.00 that they took out for what was suppose to be a FREE trial.

I have an unauthorized CC charge for $39 from classmates online. As a result, I will go on to google and click on their sponsored ad 25 times a day for the next 30 days...this will cost them way more than the $39 they are trying to bilk me out of.
