They charged my credit card for a two year contract that I did not authorize, and they refused to refund the $59.00 charge.

I tried to cancel membership but no contact numbers or email is valid. This goes beyond fraud by giving out contact links that don't work!

I signed up for Gold membership so I could communicate with those who left messages or signed my guest book. Doing so did not give me those privileges. I then went looking for others who have had problems with this group, which led me to this site. I have been charged $15 for something promised and did not receive. Now that I have read other accounts of what they experienced, I am afraid that I will end up in the same endless billing cycle they experienced. I am going to my bank on Monday to stop payment.

I dropped by subscription 2 years ago. Last month, I started looking for someone who I knew in the Navy back in 1972. Many of those reading this have probably done the same thing, a simple Google Search and then to Yahoo's PeopleSearch.Com then it takes you to intelius.com. About a week after going into intelius.com and not choosing to pay any fees for the records they have, I received this mysterious email from Classmates.com that someone was searching for me, and I should check my inbox. Well, I checked and the message in my box left an email address in the text of the message. I sent that email address a note, and I received a response asking me to send history, my current mailing address and notes of interest. This was framed as coming from the very person who I was previously searching for.
So, my question is what is the connection between Classmates.com and intelius.com? Like the others before me, I continue to receive bogus emails from Classmates.com; but there's a new spin, an actual email address to contact with a response asking all types of questions. Fear not, I changed my credit card company last year so they cannot try to turn my elapsed subscription on. I would suggest others entangled in their web to do the same.

I've been charged twice in a few days apart. I signed up for a year, they advertised for $19.95 and then they put another $29.95 on my debit on the first part of April 2009. There is no number to contact someone about this and I want my $29.95 back. This is fraud and I have read a lot of complaints of other people having the same problem as I have. Please help me solve this problem.

I want to cancel my Gold subscription, which will be renewed on 4/17/09. I have tried to do this to no avail.

I only authorized a one-time charge for 3 months at Classmates.com as I wanted to see who had left new messages for me. You cannot do this without signing up for a gold membership of $15 which I did ... for one time only. Now I see they have billed me again for another 3 months and set the charge up on my account as recurring which I did not authorize. As this was on a debit card, I have no way to undo this. I went on my profile site and took out my credit card and requested the account to be cancelled. I tried to find an email address to request a refund of $15. Every link you click on for "Customer Support" replies as an "Oops ... unable to find. Please check your spelling," and the link to directly chat with a real person gives the same response! I'm very frustrated!

I was one of those that paid the price only to discover that no one listed was any known friend. I even fell for it a second time when I was trying to search out a really sick friend who then died before I could reach them!

Two years ago, I made the mistake of joining their gold membership for which I paid with my MasterCard. After the expiration date, they automatically renewed my membership without my approval. I could not get my money back. Now I tried to unsubscribe totally and find it impossible. Instead of unsubscribing, they have enrolled me again in their gold membership! There is no phone number to call either! They have my credit card number and keep enrolling me against my wishes. I wish to unsubscribe!

I have attempted to cancel this service twice. The first time was last fall when I went to my online account to change settings so I no longer received numerous emails. I was no longer using the membership and it was due to expire in 2009. I noted that my account was set to automatically renew, which I was unaware of. I changed this to manual, even though the card on file expired in December 2008. Because I made this change, I did not change my email options alone. I have no documentation regarding this, as it was done online at their website.
I saw the charge on my cards in the February 2009 statement and went online to Classmates.com again. My account was still set to automatically renew. I changed this again and I sent the cancellation request included in the attachment. I did this using the email form in the Classmates.com Help section, as instructed. The page linking to the email form displayed a notice that I could terminate by contacting Member Care Services or by ceasing to use the site. Either way, my account would continue through until the next billing period (two years) with no refunds, as per the agreement. I disagreed with such an agreement and noted this in my cancellation request. My account is still active as of this morning (04/01/09).
Additionally, according to the email acknowledging my cancellation request, unless I personally change the automatic renewal, I will continue to be charged even though I have canceled my membership. It is unreasonable and unethical business practice to refuse to refund 23 months of a 24-month renewal membership charge, particularly when the renewal charge should not have occurred in the first place. And it is unreasonable and unethical business practice to continue to bill a customer because of a vendor-imposed automatic renewal after the consumer has changed it to manual, and after a consumer has cancelled a membership.
This agreement is undoubtedly deceptive and unethical. Parts of it are intentionally buried in fine print and not included in the section a reasonable person would expect to find it. References to not refunding unused memberships is not located in Section 8: Termination/Cancellation of the Terms of Agreement, but under another section titled Additional Terms, subtitled Subscription Services and Automatic Renewal.
I have several issues here: 1) I previously changed the automatic renewal to manual but my account apparently never made this change; 2) Classmates.com charged against an expired card; 3) Classmates.com is deceptive about renewals and cancellations; 4) The only effective way to cancel a membership is to request cancellation then change the automatic renewal billing.
A web search using specific terms complaint Classmates.com returns 32,100 hits and includes numerous complaints filed with Consumer Affairs, BBB and other official organizations. Nearly all of these are regarding unauthorized billing practices. I certainly will be filing my own complaints regarding this company.
