Was notified that they had charged my credit card $188 two days ago for a renewal. No prior notification that it was due. LIFELOCK is included with this but their inability to give prior notification proves they may be incapable of fixing anything because they are incapable of proper billing. Not to be trusted.

I have auto renewal and noticed they charged me £62.99 for Norton Internet subscription. They then upgraded this to Norton 360 deluxe which I noticed is £29.99. Despite spending hour on the chat and telephone they just gave me the run around with no credit. They have ripped me off and come renewal I'll use someone else - useless support system. I dread to think what would happen if you had a security problem as they are slow to respond, are very unhelpful. DON'T USE.

I was considering renewal but thanks to complaints in the social media, I found out that by renewing subscription to Norton’s security program for 1 year, you are authorizing Norton to withdraw money from your account each year for every next renewal at a regular price which is usually $120. That fact is confirmed by the very fine print in the e-mail for renewal sent to me by Norton. Also, on the original box of the Norton Security at the bottom right corner with letters meant to be missed by purchases the text reads: “Restrictions apply. Must be enrolled in automatic renewal service online.”

PLEASE BE ADVISED that this shady practices are also used now by McAfee. I have used Norton for the last about 5 years. No MORE. I switch to Kaspersky which shares first place with Norton as the best protection tested by many labs. The pointed downside for Kaspersky is that it does not have the option to backup your data on a cloud, which I have never used with Norton, literally for security reasons. I have NO trust in today's corporations.

Upon recognizing being charged twice I contacted the company only to be farmed out to India where I received a complete runaround. And could not decipher what was being said. Went online and received a circular argument live chat. I have been with Norton since it's inception, but their deceptive, sneaky renewal system sent me running. Terrible deceitful practices.

I'm another victim of the Norton auto renew scam. I've been a subscriber for about 15 years and this is 2nd time they got me. I am positive I turned off auto renew because this happened last yr. Not only do they charge your account with no authorization, they massively inflate the price. I've never paid more than 49$ for annual subscription they charged me $109. If I go into my settings and hit renew, they offer me the same product for 69$ Amazon has it for $59 and I found at Best Buy for $31 99. They claim they upgraded my services in January and it automatically turned auto pay on. A billion $ company shouldn't be virtually stealing from their long time subscribers.

My family shares a Norton Subscription for our devices and with an accidental purchase we ended up having two Subscriptions of Norton 360 (one was Premium, the other Deluxe). I reached out to their support and clearly stated that I was intending on keeping the Deluxe Subscription. After being pushed to "wrap both subscriptions together" so that I wouldn't have to pay for another 13 months, I restated that I only wanted the refund. After they "refunded" my account, they ended up canceling the Deluxe subscription I wanted to keep and left me with the Premium subscription that I did not want. After the Norton subscription is up, I'll be looking elsewhere for another Antivirus company with competent support.

The reason you were charged BLAH BLAH." I listened. I hung up but felt scared. THAT'S BAD. All of a sudden I called the number back. The guy Sam answered. I said, "How are you answering a phone at a business with Thousands of customers." He said, "Now this this is my direct line to you." WHAT...

Long story short I hung up. Turned my computer off. Changed some passwords. Meanwhile he tried calling back 5 times. Now nothing works right. I think this is how our info is being sold. Someone better check on this company. And the kicker is we are giving the info to people in India. Nothing against India but let's face it. I entered the miserable Norton product key repeatedly at their website but it wouldn't go through. I called their support phone #, they wanted me to subscribe to LifeLock. I hate the word L-word (LifeLock). It sounds like a bondage or enslavement to me. I already paid for the damned product, while do l have to go through all that to use it? I'm not sure what kind of game Norton is playing. It seems they are trying to catch people not paying attention and charging their card. The fact that my subscription is good for over a year and on top of that, I have auto-renew turned off (I verified), I feel like Norton was trying to pull one over on me. With that, after this subscription ends, I will move on from Norton. I do not support these types of business practices.

I had changed my credit card information a couple of time throughout the year and Norton's auto renew was unable to charge my card 30 days ahead of renewal as the pop ups they utilized reminded me of 600 plus times. I gave up and loaded up my card info thinking it would be 29.99 because that is the only price mentioned in my billing history or account information. Cap One sent me a notification saying I had been charged 93.87. I got on their live chat, live from India and I was repeatedly told the "email told me what it would cost". These "emails" were literally sent after I made contact with the agent and were a super slimy way of covering this up and it isn't really even effective because the date and time are there too. I don't get it.

This agent did nothing and I had to call in and get pretty heated with another Indian agent just to get a refund confirmation which I am not entirely sure is legit because I seen no change on my Cap One page. I have been using Norton religiously for years without even considering alternatives but I'm done. Unless of course I don't get my refund then I guess I have 379 days to be upset. Why did you do this to me Norton?! Even with a refund you made me fight for it and sound like a total jerk when you supposedly have a no hassle return policy.

I can't access the Norton app on my laptop due to some glitch. Customer service hasn't fixed the problem despite multiple calls. I now have no viral protection because the last rep I spoke with uninstalled it in an attempt to fix the issue. On my last call, I had to tell the rep that I needed to get off the phone because he kept me on the phone for nearly 2 1/2 hours as he remotely did the same actions on my computer over and over again and to no avail. I am due to get a call back from the senior IT team. Was told that it would take 1-2 days but after reaching out after two days to find out what's happening, was told that for some cases, it takes longer in which they can't provide an ETA. Dealing with Norton has been the worst customer service experience ever. Would be helpful to have a phone number to call to speak to a live person in the USA, not overseas and well as work with someone skilled enough to be able to fix the issue.

I then proceeded to contact Norton again and that I should have never been charged since I canceled a month before. Imagine my surprise this year when I noticed I was still paying for Norton! The company refused to refund the fees they took after my cancellation even though per their records the last time I used the product was 2017. All the while trying to cancel for good, they were not the least bit apologetic and even tried to continue selling me -- aggressively -- on a renewal. Norton's sales and billing practices are untrustworthy. I will never do business with them again. Beware of getting caught in their web with any subscription plan.

I had to pick one star, or I was not able to leave this review; they deserve no stars! At one time, many of us had AOL (America Online) email accounts, right? Then, AOL became outdated and many of us moved on to Gmail and other services. I purchased a subscription to Norton Antivirus through my AOL email account back in the 1990's, but when Gmail came along, I wanted to switch to their better platform and services. So, in 2008 I canceled my AOL email account and opened a Gmail account; at the same time I moved my Norton Antivirus over to my new Gmail account and closed it on AOL. Sounds pretty simple, right? Flash forward to October/November of 2018 when I decided to no longer subscribe to Norton Antivirus on my computer through my Gmail account, I went online and clicked "unsubscribe" and all was good. Not so fast...

In December of 2018 a charge showed up on my credit card from Norton/Symantec. I checked my Gmail and confirmed that I had indeed cancelled my monthly subscription, then I called my credit card company to dispute the charge. A few weeks later, I received a letter from my credit card company, they had attached a letter from Symantec/Norton stating that I had not cancelled my subscription. It went on to state "If Customer needs further assistance, we would kindly direct them to our Norton Support Center via the following website". So I contacted Norton support immediately.

To my surprise, guess what I found out! My subscription through my Gmail account had been canceled, BUT they were showing that the charge was for an account on another email address, AOL! As I stated earlier, I had closed that AOL account when I transferred my Norton Antivirus from my AOL account to my Gmail account in 2008. So, for ten years, I was being billed on the same credit card for TWO Norton subscriptions; all the I while thinking the charges were only for one account, what company would ever double charge you....NORTON SYMANTEC!

After over two months on the phone with Norton Symantec, speaking with countless associates, supervisors and their supervisors, I had to repeat my story EVERY time I called. This sounds like a simple issue to all us regular folks, DOUBLE BILLING a customer for the same service is illegal; but apparently not to a billion dollar company like Norton Symantec with all their fine print, red tape and unscrupulous billing methods! After two months of being sent around in circles at Norton, guess what they offered me? They offered to mail me a check for $199.98, that's right, it equals a month and a half of what they had illegally charged me over 10 years!

Corporate thievery wins out again, at the expense of us consumers. Norton Symantec should be ASHAMED of their billing and customer service practices. The amount of money they took from me looks small to them, but it keeps food on my family's table and a roof over our head. If they only realized how hard we all work to survive... Do the right thing Norton Symantec, it is what is JUST and what us consumers deserve.

However, Norton continues to reinstall itself on my computer. I don't understand how they are able to do this without my permission or my taking actions to install their software. The fact they are able to install themselves onto my computer without my permission is alarming. That seems to be the same way how virus gets onto people's computers. Norton is supposed to be an antivirus program and yet it is doing the exact thing their antivirus program is supposed to prevent and block. While it does not appear Norton has charged me, their practice seems predatory and viral. Norton needs to stop this practice. This is why I stopped subscribing to Norton in the first place.

Updated on 06/06/2019: Okay, this is going from bad to worse... I just got an email from Norton thanking me for signing up for their LifeLock program WHICH I NEVER DID. I have not had my part one problem resolved yet where they charged me for two anti-viral programs, and even with the two anti-viral programs I have computer viruses plus malware. Then said I could have those nasty issues erased for ONLY $199.00. Nothing has been resolved, but they did sign me up for their LifeLock. This is becoming a nightmare. Please help.

Original Review: I have been a Norton customer for years. At the time of my renewal I decided to purchase a less expensive security option. I placed my order prior to the date my subscription was due to expire. When I received my credit card statement I discovered they had charged me for two plans. I had a $42 and $125 charges. When I called Norton they needed to access my computer to remove one of the products, The tech told me, at that time, that my computer had been compromised and I had several viruses and malware. But, they could fix it for $199,00.

I found it difficult to believe what I was hearing and told him they had charged me twice for products that didn’t work and wanted to charge me more to repair the damage their products failed to provide protection for. He said “I didn’t get it”. I then asked to speak to a supervisor or someone in customer support. He just said “no” and I said there must be some other option here for me. He then said “you can hang up”. Now I have a computer that needs expensive repairs despite being charged for two security options.

Went online and had a chat to find they had added two years to my expired card, they also stated they knew we would get one a month before the expiry and hope it’s not cancelled. I have this in writing and printed the conversation! Worst part, I discovered they took money last year and I missed it. An expired card is not a valid card for direct debit. It’s not legal in Australia. I did not authorise this payment. Better still they say they sent me an email to update my card details and then copied and pasted that email to the chat.

It clearly states that failing to update my card details will Ensure to cease future updates and will expire. Now apparently this was sent on the 11th May yet I didn’t receive that email, did not update my details and they withdrew $239.99 on the 11th May. Go figure. Now if Norton’s were an Australian company I could make a stink over this. But I can’t seem to locate where they’re at. But I have the whole transcript where it’s admitted how they took money from our card, without permission and how they altered the details without permission. Don’t give your details to anyone is my advice! Be very aware of Norton’s antics

Why did it cook on PC and not the other? They both ran Norton and in Task Manager, the only APP running while my CPU was Cooking at 60-65% of my CPU was NORTON, but if I opened Norton, it was doing nothing! 3) Third LIE - We'll extend your Subscription by 3 months because we've kept you up for 3 nights in a Row till midnight while we load and re-load Norton onto your Computer -LIE! No extension ever added.

    4) Fourth LIE - Senior Tech advice in summary -We don't care that you're unhappy Norton is cooking your CPU, it's Normal for Norton to do so. Also, we never give refunds on Subscriptions - it's impossible - LIE!

    5) In May 2019, after realizing my Subscription was charged at full value and no extension was ever provided, I contacted their Support again and they offered me an immediate refund of AUD 130.69 and they would disable Norton immediately. I accepted, however because the Credit Card I used for my Subscription was cancelled and I changed my Payment details, they couldn't pay back into the new Card in my Norton Account, they had to get a "Senior Tech" to call me within 48-72 Hours. When I said that was unacceptable because I had to immediately go out and Purchase new AV Software. Fifth LIE- they promised I would get a call the next Day 10 am AEST -LIE!

    6) Sixth LIE - Contacting them after 48 hours, they said (quote from Transcripts) "rest-assured I have made sure someone will call you tomorrow."- LIE.

    7) Seventh LIE- After 72 Hours, I was told tonight they would have to send me a Cheque and it would take 4-6 weeks to receive it. When I asked why no one had called me, they said they only made the decision today - LIE!

They referred back to when they tried to ring me three time in March after my technical issues (which I fixed myself with a System Restore) and I don't even know why they were trying to ring me, but when I'm chasing the money they owe me, and I'm no longer a Subscriber, there's no reason to ring me back at all! Now apparently, I'm waiting 4-6 weeks to receive a cheque and someone Senior from Norton will ring me within the next 48 hours at my designated time of 9am AEST. After what I've just posted, what chance do you think I've got of either happening at all; or on time; or as they say it's going to happen with their 100% failure rate!

HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART: I've swapped over to Bitdefender. Within four hours, on all 3 machines Bitdefender found Malware and a Trojan in email Archives that I received while operating NORTON as my AV over the years - How effective is Bitdefender and how useless is Norton? Also - for quarter of the price! Do yourself a favor, don't go near NORTON, they are a brand name, with a pretty GUI that uses up heaps of CPU power doing absolutely nothing in the background while cooking your CPU or providing you with completely useless screen pop-ups every hour or so.

Their Tech Support Staff are useless at fixing problems and untruthful if they can't and they don't see an issue with making promises they have no intention of keeping - it will be some other Support Staff Person's problem if you contact them again. I've kept all the Transcripts of their failure to keep promises and I intend to give them to Consumer Affairs. I never thought I'd see myself saying this, but if I could Score them ZERO Stars I would and I hope I've helped at least some of you out there keep away from NORTON AV.

Norton charged an expired card (it had been expired for several months) and refused to issue a refund. I had to deal with the bank, which eventually explained that this is a service available to business such as car rental agencies and hotels, which are able to charge expired cards to avoid customers skipping out on damages they caused by canceling their credit card. Why Norton is allowed to do this is beyond me, and beyond the bank's understanding. Bank was ok. Norton reps were a PITA at every step, basically automatons.

My notes supported my understanding of the agreement. I logged on to my Norton account today and contacted customer service through chat to cancel my subscription and request a refund for the balance. They assured me my subscription is scheduled to "cancel" in November. I restated my request to cancel today and receive a partial refund. I was transferred to a supervisor who said said I purchased my subscription through a third party; not Norton so.... I ended the chat and called Norton customer service who repeated this information that Norton didn't receive my money. She couldn't explain to me how that happened when I called Norton. Seriously. In November They were able to locate my account, cancel that subscription and start a new one.

The representative was going to have me talk to a supervisor but they weren't available so she said I would need to call back tomorrow. I asked if there was a name I could give when I call. "No," she said. There are several supervisors. Just not now. 10 minutes ago one was chatting with me online but now there are none. I am beyond fuming right now.

I have used Norton Security to successfully remove viruses off infected computers which did not have anti-virus software on them.

I oversee many Windows PCs for myself, my family members and friends. I currently run or manage over 15 Windows PCs. Some of the PCs I work with are a little older, and will not run most of the current modern anti-virus offerings. Norton Security is an exception. Once installed, Norton Security is not very invasive to the overall PC operation. This allows Norton to work very well on older PCs, even on those with Pentium 4 CPUs.

One thing that should be mentioned regarding running Norton (or any antivirus program) is: you need to run the "virus signature updates" before you start doing your main work on that day. This is because: when an antivirus program does its updates, it may slow down your PC some, especially if it is older, or has a low power CPU. The same thing is true for running a virus scan on your PC. You should run your scans when you are not otherwise taxing the computer. Again, this logic applies to all antivirus software.

When I use any Windows computer, I always monitor my CPU usage and RAM allocation. This is how I continuously verify that my computer is running well, and that I do not have too many processes running. I can positively confirm, from years and years of experience, that I know Norton does not adversely impact the CPU usage of older machines that do not have a lot of processing power. I always run Windows Task Manager or some other sort of CPU usage monitor, like Process Explorer, etc.

I have used Norton Mobile Security for 15 months, but the last month has been problematic. In the latest release, they push very hard to get you to buy additional Norton products. The latest is the warning that your network has been compromised (in big red letters), and that you should try their VPN. (I was using a Hotspot Shield VPN so this option was not necessary.) I spent 2 days changing logins and security settings on my modem, to no avail. Finally, on their user forum yesterday, they admitted that this was the result of their overzealous software, and that the next release would correct this. I am switching to someone else (Bitdefender on my PC has been very good - if a bit intrusive).

Updated on 03/31/2018: Norton responded, "We're terribly sorry for the inconvenience caused to you due to the potentially incorrect alerts from WiFi Security. We have released an update we believe should resolve this issue. Please update your app to the latest version 4.1.0.4063". My response: "...potentially incorrect alerts..."?? To quote the warning box, "An attacker is attempting to decrypt this network and may view and alter your communications." Does this sound like a "potential" threat?? It clearly says that my network is under attack. Yes, I have not seen this message since I updated the app, but I still lost time and had a lot of grief all because Norton wanted me to buy their VPN product."

Norton was using an email address that is inactive and we didn't know existed to bill us automatically for over 12 years. When we realized we had been charged over a $1,000, we contacted them about this fraud or scam. So far they are unwilling to refund these charges. They will not give me the email address they were using to supposedly "notify" us, so obviously we got no notices for renewal. They will not provide the "supposed" computer that was being covered on renewal. They want me to log-in to an account that I am unaware of and cancel the auto renewal! I feel someone has hacked us over a security product and Norton is responsible for this fraud!

I have asked repeatedly for account information which they have not provided. I have asked for complete refund, which we have not received. I have asked for a supervisor or someone in management to call us to explain all this, and no one has called. I am posting very negative review here for Norton products and their lack of professionalism. They have deceived and taken advantage of two senior citizens. Any suggestions for anyone to post critical remarks about their behavior? I don't know what an "order number" is for this because we didn't know it existed until this week.

Updated on 04/26/2018: After over 2 months of trying to get Norton to refund our monies, they are still stalling and refusing to do the correct thing. How can you charge repeatedly for a product that was not being used, nor did we even know we were being charged for which were going to an inactive account, and Norton KNEW they were not being delivered or in service. Wrong and shameful. This is not a good business practice and this continued for over 12 years. There are extenuating circumstances here and Norton knows this but refuses to do the professional thing and fix this problem.

But then after you complain about that, your email address will be permanently blocked from entering your Norton account in order to purchase another and cheaper Norton antivirus program. This is very stupid behaviour from a big company like this one, as it helped me to move on to search for an alternative product which is not only better but also cheaper. In the meantime I downloaded Kaspersky (previously, I had used Norton for 20+ years). When I called back with Product Key, which was verified by agent, I was told that the refund could not be issued.

Symantec gave me incorrect information (which was recorded and noted on my Case #) and then backed down and didn't follow through with their promise to refund. There is clearly poor corporate leadership at Symantec, with regard to: 1. Customer Product Support - (inconsistent, unreliable), 2. The company's primary mission of providing excellent products and services to their customers - (leveraging the political agendas of a few corporate individuals onto their customer base is inappropriate and must be boycotted). Bought one year of coverage for multiple devices. After a Windows upgrade, had to bring in a computer tech to fix my work computer since Norton was interfering with my Office programs. (He recommended using a different virus program). At that point, I had already purchased "Core" for my home computer. Could not install, hours on customer service, not working, then finally asked to return it. Got refund. Then Norton terminated entire subscription at that point, including the year we had previously paid for, only 3 months into it. Now vulnerable to viruses on home computer. Called customer service. They denied we ever had a subscription outside of Core.

Meanwhile I got other virus coverage since Norton left us hanging. Then I dug through e-mails for proof of subscription, found it, called customer service AGAIN and requested a refund for 3/4 of subscription. They agree to reinstate it, but no refund ("past 60 days"). Already found replacement virus protection, so we didn't want Norton reinstated. The supervisor then said he would take my refund request to the "escalation committee" (which was really a way to end the phone call and do nothing more). Horrible experience. We gave them multiple chances to make it right and they didn't. So much of my time wasted.

I can manually run the update, and the status changes to "Up to date", but the updates are not occurring automatically.

Within a week or so of running a manual update, my status will again be Not Protected. Norton tech tells me today that the essential updates ARE occurring, it’s just trivial things like "product updates" that are causing the "not up to date" status. At one point in the chat he told me that the live update issue was caused by my internet provider. I told him my internet provider was Spectrum (Charter) and I did not have any other problems with my internet. However, he assured me that my computer is safe from viruses.

I did share with him that a tech from Dell computers (the company I purchased the computer from and have a paid subscription for tech assistance) did recently remove a virus and a ton of malware off of my computer when I contacted them with a problem I was having with Adobe. At that time, the Dell tech discovered the Norton was not up to date, which I saw for myself as the tech was doing remote assistance. When I told the Norton tech about this, he told me that Norton doesn't guarantee no viruses, just that they will help me remove any viruses free of charge. After several requests for further assistance from a supervisor or information about how to get a full or partial refund, the Norton tech told me a supervisor would call me within 24-48 hours. Norton Antivirus is easy to use with a clear interface and helpful website. Doing a scan is easy and there are options for quick scans as well as deeper scans which require more time. In the past I have found Norton to be a bit too slow and makes the computer sluggish. I would appreciate options to install a full package and perhaps a more basic version if the computer is slowed down by the software as long as it is still able to scan and protect my data. Other than that, the Norton Antivirus is easy to install and I did not need customer support as the process was quite self-explanatory. Once installed it is able to do an immediate scan.

I like the fact that Norton Security is a name brand, it gets good reviews, it updates to keep current and can handle the toughest viruses. It is also worry free for the most part. But Norton as well as other antivirus software can be intrusive. It can slow the computer down some and if you cancel they will constantly bug you. It is not foolproof so there is that odd chance of it not working properly. Antivirus can also block things you may not need blocked. But Norton is easy to use. You just need to install it through a disk or online and it will take you step by step to set it up properly. It takes a little bit of time to register it and adjust it to fit your needs. I did not encounter any problems I could not figure out myself but it is good to know that customer service have your back if you need assistance.
