It's easy to download and install, which is the only thing I like about Norton. No customer service representative needed during this time. However, I find it hard to understand and navigate, and the interface needs to be clearer. Also, forced popups all the time is annoying.

Norton Antivirus includes deep scan for viruses, trojans, and malware. Also includes a firewall and recycling bin cleaning. However, it can be a bit intrusive on your system, and difficult to uninstall if you wish to do so. I think this might be troublesome for less savvy users. Also it can be a bit pricey. Nevertheless, it is simple to install, but it can be time-consuming. I typically update the software annually. I have no need to contact customer service and I find it very easy to use.

When I was in college my father purchased Norton Antivirus for my laptop. The first version was very slow. There were too many pop ups due to home use. But whenever I upgraded to the newer version it speed up a bit. Installing the program was easy. First you download the Norton remove and reinstall tool. Next you go to the download window and read through the license agreement that comes up. Then you will click agree. Next click on remove and reinstall, continue or remove, and finally restart your computer. Norton is somewhat obsolete though as compared to other antivirus systems and a lot slower than some other systems I have tried. Otherwise, would recommend Norton to others.

Buy it, download and install. Not too difficult, a bit slow to load but alright. But not quite as advertised, supposed to be lightning fast etc, but not my experience at all. It slows down my computer and too much advertising comes with it with no way to stop the ads from coming. Also when I used the backup it takes forever to load what is saved back into the computer and customer service says it is my fault, pretty poor. Overall it is ok, but I do not use anymore, too ponderous and costs more than it is worth.

It was installed automatically, no problems. I entered the software key and it installed fine. I like that the software runs quietly in the background and doesn't announce everything it is doing and that updates are automatic and I don't have to worry about remembering to update. Its great graphics keep getting better but in a security software a lot of times it's unnecessary. I don't like the amount of resources it uses at times.

Norton Security was pretty straightforward with the instructions but you have to remember to allow the changes to happen or otherwise you risk the chance of not having the software downloaded. Corrupted installations are also a risk that you can run into while downloading. I'm not too savvy on the technical lingo, but I enjoy the pop-up block features as well as scanning suspicious material before downloading and these are top features I tend to look for when I'm looking for antivirus software. Norton is rather popular as well. However, some websites need to marked as safe or they will not be shown and the user has to keep in mind to make sure that their websites aren't blocked as well.

The installation was a bit tedious, the entire process. I have to download and go through all the steps. It took too much time, I had to wait for it all to happen before I could do anything else on my computer. But it protects my computer, it cleans up my drive and ensures that I am safe. It also alerts me when I need to do a run through again to make sure it's ready. But I have to manually clean up the Trojans, etc. I wish it was more independent. I'd like to not have to worry about what's going on in the background.

Norton Security was always easy to install and use. Like most software, just click 'next' to install. It has always worked well and they've been one of the best for a long time. Software is always up to date which is good. Although in the past I had trouble fully uninstalling it which was annoying and I had to download a separate tool just to completely remove all traces of it.

Norton Antivirus software is hands down our favorite because it is low priced, gives me information as to what is happening at least monthly and automatically updates. Though sometimes the auto update has inconvenient timing. However I like Norton better than anyone else. It was extremely easy to install to my computer, my husband is electronically challenged and even he could install norton antivirus software to his own computer.

Installing the software did not take much time and I just had to let it do its thing and restart my computer. I don't really have to think about it that much and it gives me reminders when I need them. It’s very easy to use and I like that it keeps my computer virus free and doesn't have annoying updates all the time that I have to stop what I am doing. It also lets me choose a time for updates, so it is very convenient. But I would change the software so it could be more personalized and have it do updates or sweeps at more personalized times. Or I wish it could do these things while I was not actively using my computer, so it did not interrupt whatever I was trying to do at the moment.

It was beneficial at the time that I used it. I am not very good with computers and fixing malware problems, so it prevented problems and gave me peace of mind. It did its job. The only problem was I had to completely buy a new code even though the subscription hadn't expired yet because I had been logged off, and didn't keep the code that came with it. Once I added the new code, it was very straight forward. It was easy. I did not have to interact with anyone but the person at Best Buy who sold it to me and explained the process.

The Norton antivirus software came pre-installed on my computer which I liked and I didn't have to do anything. I liked that it would clean some of the viruses off of my computer, remove and delete them as well. But it did not do much more than that. It would never get everything at once. It also was a huge memory hog, so I could only use it when I was away from my computer for hours at a time. Not worth the money.

There are features I like about Norton Antivirus. It seems quite easy to use and understand when it alerts you of an issue or problem with your device. It's quick to give options on how to fix or ways to come to some sort of solution to the issue your device is having at the time. I hope that customer service would be helpful if I ever needed them as I don't have very much patience. It seems to work just fine and seems to do what it was made to do. I have been satisfied with this program. Keep up the good work and no complaints from me.

I feel very comfortable having this program. It defends against viruses, spyware, malware, and other online threats. I like protecting my identity and online transactions and I feel it spot threats very quickly. I also feel the home network has a firewall. I like having the icon on the desktop so I can easily check everywhere I need to be. I also like that when it finds a virus or malicious threat it will deal with it effectively. I installed it and the whole process of installing it was easy. I use it on tablets as well. Also, customer support is great. In this scary age of identity theft I have peace of mind that Norton is going to protect me. This is the best one out on the market and I will always rely on Norton. Family and friends ask my opinion and I always tell them Norton.

Norton Security did a pretty good job of protecting my computer when I had a Windows computer. It's fairly easy to use, and I felt like I understood how to use it immediately. It made intuitive sense to me. However, I would like there to be more features provided and for it to be easier to buy once and not have to keep purchasing when the trial or the contract was over.

The Norton Antivirus software is very easy to install and use. I have never had to call customer service, but I think older people do have trouble installing it. My grandparents needed my help to install their program. But the software does a very thorough job of removing viruses and protecting my computer from future viruses. It works more efficiently than these other bargain brand programs. It does make the computer run slower though and it's also more pricey. However, the value match up to the cost. Although, maybe paying a monthly fee would be better than making customers pay everything upfront.

It was easy to install. I didn't need help from a customer service representative and I was able to complete the entire process quickly. It has been a while since I installed it and it does a good job of protecting my computer for an inexpensive price. It would tell me when there was an issue and the best way to resolve it, but if it was something that I didn't think needed fixing it would let me mark it as an exception. But it prompted me for updates or to upgrade to a paid version a lot and that was frustrating. Also, it should make it a little easier to understand what bugs and potential viruses are being found and perhaps with suggestions of how to avoid them in the future.

I like Norton Security’s protection updates and that the software always seems to do tasks that I need it to do. It has also kept my computer virus-free. I like the mobile app too and the fact that you can pair it with devices. It’s easy to use and access and seems to update frequently which is good. I do like getting the reminder about the automatic renewal. Just wish I got more than one. However, its price is a little high. I've also had issues with it freezing up mid-scan which can be frustrating because the full system scans can take quite a while and time is of the essence these days.

I like it when Norton autoruns in the background, it was easy to install and user-friendly. And it was free for a period of time. To install it you put the disc in, or download the software, save and run it to install it. Pretty self-explanatory, so I didn't need to call customer service to assist me. However, I didn't like the times that it would start running in the background as soon as you boot up. I realize it's probably because it hadn't been run in a while. Overall, not a bad program though.

Last time, Norton Security was in disc form so that was easy to install and use the program once on the computer. You simply put it in the disc reader and put in the code. It protects PC from virus and notifies you the instant they find them. They also clean the virus from your computer and gives you advice on what pages to open and what not to open. Would improve, though, the effectiveness of getting rid of any virus off my PC and offer more protection when it came to preventing virus in the first place by restricting or heavy warning of a site known to carry harmful virus.

I found the installation process to be relatively simple and not confusing. More often than not, the directions to download could be found on the web. In my experience, the software was often pre-installed on computers purchased at big-box stores like Best Buy. The process is relatively simple. But I found most of the software to be annoying; it uses a lot of computer memory to run properly and consistently. Also I was not impressed with the functionality and the level of protection it provided.

I like that Norton Security makes sure that they are safe, remove viruses from the websites that may have them if you visit them and they make sure your stuff is not infected whenever you are asleep at night. Often, it takes only 5 minutes to wipe viruses from your computer and all the files. It takes three days to install Norton but once it is installed, it is easy to use and everything is great. They also have a hotline for help and advice. The cost for the program is about the same as a pizza order which for me is affordable. However, I do not like that it requires a monthly fee. While the program is not expensive, the constant charges add up to a lot of the entire electric bill. And that’s terrifying especially in the summer months.

This seems to be the standard that my son likes to use. He is the one that does all of the installation of any new programs on my computer and comes to my house and does check-ups on my computer often and also remove anything that has been added that I am not aware that's been added. He is an IT professional, and I trust and follow his advice. It was easy to install and even tho it seemed to take a long time, they did keep telling me (via message on screen) what was going on so that I could keep track of the progress. However, they give too many reminders. When I am in the middle of doing something and they suddenly put something over what I am doing. I would much rather it be in a smaller box and then I can see it when I finish up with whatever it is that I am working on.

Norton offers many features that allow you to protect not only the computer from being attacked but also your life and everything you store on the computer that represents yourself. Also, he showed me how to scan my computer and it's easy and cleared a bunch of viruses and garbage from my computer and also protects for the future. I like being about to use my computer because Norton makes it safe. Also, it's easy to use but maybe making it more clear where the viruses are hiding and where they ate getting cleaned from to ensure they are completely gone.

After speaking with Comcast they assured me that Norton tech department would help me to resolve this problem. After several phone calls they wanted to access my computer remotely. With all due respect I am not letting some unknown person, in god only knows what country to play around with my computer, and for $99 and if it was not removed it would cost more money for further attempts! I am now going to review Kaspersky and a few other highly rated programs and buy a full program with USA 24/7 support.

My husband installed the software and said it was pretty easy to do. He did not encounter any difficulties. Once installed, I don’t have to do anything. It has been easy for me to use it and it runs itself. I like that it makes me feel confident and I feel fully protected from threats and viruses. The software takes care of everything for me. But it is sometimes annoying because there are too many pop-up messages. They seem to come up a lot and sometimes they are things I don't particularly need to know. I also wish the software's a little more affordable.

I like that it's easy to set up and use. I like that I can use it on more than one computer and laptop. When I first tried it, it was affordably priced and comparable to the other antivirus software on the market. However, I switched because I wanted to try a more affordable option, but after trying something else, I may return to Norton depending on the price. Overall, it was very user-friendly. I did not need to contact customer service. This was extremely important for me because I am not a tech knowledgeable person.

I like using the Norton antivirus software because it is easy to use. I do not like to put much thought into running a clean PC and Norton does the job for me. There was a setup wizard that walked me through installing my Norton antivirus software. That made the process very easy. I wish that antivirus software would come included with all computer purchases. It is considered a pretty basic need for all computers to have this software.

However, the price is a little bit steep, but it worked to protect my computer. Overall, it is very easy. I did not have to interact with their reps but they were there in case I did, either by chat or phone. I am sure they would be very helpful if needed.

I like that Norton Security was internet security and good for more than one device. I like it that it did not load on my computer and that it checked things frequently without me having to activate security scans. The install went quickly. It was a good process but I once had to call customer support and uninstall the old item and install the new software and that was a time-consuming process. The person was very helpful but the accent was very strong. The program itself is good but calling customer support meant at least an hour on the phone. The people were very helpful and very kind but it was just a very long process and sometimes we don't have that time.

The process to install the software was quick and easy. It went step by step with the disk and I didn't have to contact customer service for any reason. The software is also easy to use and it protect the computer from virus spyware and worms. The only thing I would improve would be maybe for it to last a little longer than one year. Seems it comes around very fast but I guess to keep up with all the programs it has too.

I purchased Norton Antivirus and tried to install it. An error came up saying it can't install on my computer, and to call a number. I called the number and talk to a "Norton" person or so I thought. He told me to check some things and then described how he could take over my computer to look at what was wrong. First mistake, I let him go remote on my computer. He found a lot of errors and possible hacker threats. He said they could fix that and I needed to talk to one of their techs.
Another "Norton" tech came on the phone and said he could fix the problems and then I could install the antivirus. He gave me about 3 options ranging from 99 dollars to 269 dollars. I repeatedly told him, "No, I just want to install an antivirus." He said I couldn't until I paid for some of his products. I admit the conversation got heated and words were said, he still had my computer on remote. After a long battle I said I was done and was going to leave, he said something about "Remember what you said to me" and "Let's see how you use you computer now" and did some things faster than I could shut it off. He hung up and my computer shut down, turned back on, and had a code to put in before I could use it. He hacked my computer. Now I can't get into it because it has a code.
Of course I called Norton back but got a person in a different state who said they couldn't and wouldn't do such a thing and they had no way of finding out who I was talking to, and gave me the runaround. I asked for a manager who was no help and just argued with me about who I talked to. Long story short I will never buy a Norton or Symantec product again. I will tell everyone I know and make sure all my friends never buy Norton products. These guys are hackers and have a terrible customer service. I can't say how mad I am and HATE Norton. Now I have a 40 dollar Norton Antivirus that is useless to me. Thanks Norton.

Did a chat session with an agent (in India, I think) who connected remotely to my machine, then totally hosed my Windows and didn't fix the problem. I was finally able to get everything BUT the KEYBOARD to function properly. And, the machine runs so slowly now that it is almost impossible to use. So, I called tech support and got India again. He forwarded my call to the Wi-Fi Privacy "Expert" in India, who was at a loss and forwarded my call to another "Expert." This time I got a woman in the Philippines who described herself as a "Customer Relations Expert." Now we're getting somewhere, I thought. Silly me.
After putting me on hold for 5 minutes she politely informed me that my problem wasn't Norton's fault and that they would do nothing further to help me. I (not so politely) informed her that it surely was Norton's fault, and demanded she give me the phone number of someone here in the States to help resolve the problem. Get this: "We have nobody in the United States." Either she's lying, or Norton has absolutely no regard for their customers. Well, I'm uninstalling all Norton products from my various devices, even though my subscription has a while to run. Anybody have any suggestions for a good security company? Norton security had been expired for a few days but still allowed me to click 'renew'. Later attempted to install on 2nd computer but support tech intervened, ran a check on both computers and told me both were infected with lots of malware and other bugs that were affecting performance. Windows 8.1 laptop has been on Norton since new. The other computer is 13 yrs. old with XP. The tech advised me it was possible that Norton could not be installed on the older computer but explained that for $349.95 he would do a thorough cleanup on both laptops.
I'm actually embarrassed that I fell for that line, that all our computers could/would become infected and eventually cease to work since it's always a network problem. Having paid almost that much to have 2 computers debugged in the past, the price didn't seem that far out of line. The XP laptop belongs to my husband and although browsing was his only activity on it, he managed to get around the web. I use the past tense because browsing is much more limited than before the so-called clean-up. Sure enough, Norton couldn't be installed on the XP and I'd purchased the Deluxe version that is supposed to provide protection for 5 devices. I'd already paid $49.95, plus tax, for another year's subscription.
This clean-up process started a few minutes after 7 pm and continued for the next 8 hrs. and 35 min. At some point after midnight I was told to expect a call at 9 am the following morning. Around 2 am I explicitly informed the technician I was going to bed and did so at approx. 2:30, only to receive 2 more calls within the next hour. Another tech called the following day and supposedly finished installing some protection on the XP. He couldn't access the computer remotely, although that had been done the preceding evening. I was asked to position the 8.1 so that he would be able to see the XP. I wonder how the finishing work would've been completed if I'd had only 1 computer.
So, I've paid Norton and their support team over $400, still don't have the protection I expected and have already been looking for a new laptop for my husband. This will certainly be my last year with Norton. I asked why my 8.1 had 67 bugs since Norton is the only security software that's ever been installed. The answer was something about a firewall and updates although I'd run a scan shortly before renewing my subscription. Even if I'm responsible for some of the problems, the language difficulty often makes a challenging installation extremely time consuming and tiring.

When your subscription ends, they send you an email letting you know that your subscription is about to end. Ok, thanks for the reminder but you disregard the email because you don’t have the money or you are not ready to renew.
Well, it doesn’t end there. They go into your account, again, “WITHOUT” your permission, renew your subscription and renew it at the highest costing product they have. Adjust the setting that says Remove Infected Folders to ASK ME and then when you're prompted you can choose at that time. Beware, when it's set to remove folder it might be a windows program folder and then your operating system will have to be reloaded. By default it won't remove folder. This is good. I have been testing antivirus antimalware programs for years on multiple computers and the paid version of Norton with all the settings adjusted right and turned on works best with the paid version of Malwarebytes with all the settings adjusted right. There is no one program that gets it all as of yet that I've found.
My biggest complaint with Norton is when you go to renew they want to charge way more than I paid before even though I am a repeat customer buying family 10 packs for years. The auto renew should always be turned off after you enroll. Log back in with fresh browser page and turn auto renew off. They all Lie and overcharge. Considering: I had not really used the laptop since I took my bar exam in July of 2015; it is now July 2016 (a year later); and I have another laptop, surface, and desktop that I use consistently, why would I pay almost $100 to secure something that does not need to be secured? After he finally initiated my full refund, I asked to speak with his supervisor.
First he would not transfer me and insisted that I wait for a callback. I told him he could just place me on hold until one is available; it did not matter how long. He then put me on hold and after a few minutes, disconnected the call. While Norton may be a popular company, not all of the products work efficiently (i.e. Norton Wi-Fi Privacy Secure VPN for your mobile device). Furthermore, if you have an issue or want to stop using their product, the company does not have the best customer service. Now that that's out of the way, let me explain why I entitled this Consumer Affairs entry "Unethical and Unscrupulous." You guessed it... It has to do with their automatic renewal feature. Now, despite not being aware and, if memory serves me correctly, specifically not signing up for auto-renewal, I somehow managed to enroll? So, today they billed me a whopping $89.99 for my two-computer licensure? I thought this was a huge jump from what I normally pay, so I stopped the automatic payment (which took 25 minutes because of course they don't provide you with any cancellation number or anything). Then I googled their current products.
My question to them "I can get the same product (different name but same capabilities, same 5-computer coverage) for $49.99 on their website. So, why were they billing me --- their repeat customer of 20 years -- $89.99? I thought they would want to know this. Perhaps there was an error? I made my payment and purchased Norton but the Automatic Renewal policy statement appears in such a way that people will not be bothered to read it because it just looks like an ordinary terms and conditions like it appears on every website when you start downloading a software. For eg. terms and conditions if you download itunes or photoshop and Norton's automatic renewal policy statement should be designed and highlighted in a better way so that it warns the customer that they will be billed once the subscription expires.
I have checked that McAfee has highlighted the automatic renewal policy in a better way and it is easy to contact their customer service department whereas it is very difficult to contact Norton Customer service. I have heard that even if you google search 'Norton Customer service phone number' you will get a list of fake Norton scam phone numbers. This leaves a great deal of inconvenience to the customers! Ultimately getting cheated by Norton.
Luckily I have been cautious while purchasing Norton and it was difficult to turn off the automatic renewal, but finally I managed to do it. But what about those customers and many people who are not tech-savvy who are not aware that Norton is robbing money from their bank accounts to automatically bill them every year? That is a great concern! Norton should give a choice in the form of a tick mark in a box whether you want automatic renewal or you don't want automatic renewal.

I have used Norton Security for several years and am not disappointed with the technical aspect of the service. However, I am very disappointed with the customer service. I received an email on May 9 stating that my subscription was to run out on June 13, but not to worry it would automatically be renewed. I had not signed up for auto renewal and was not happy about this. I figured I have a bit of time to deal with it or make up my mind to renew. But on the 24th of May I received yet another email stating the money had been take from my account for another years subscription. So not only had I not signed up for auto renewal, giving permission to access my account but they did so 3 weeks prior to the end date of my subscription.
Really?? Poor business practice! It did take a bit of Phone juggling and patience but I got through to a customer service rep who said that he did understand and proceeded to justify the actions of Norton under the guise of convenience. And that yes, because I had renewed my subscription annually on the May date in the past that the company just went ahead and 'renewed for me'. Wrong Answer. Have terminated my account altogether and will Not use or recommend Norton in the future.

On March 16th, I signed up for what I thought was a free 60 day trial of Norton. With a rep on the phone with me, we decided my computer was not able to load the Norton as it had major issues. I thought the rep was going to cancel the free trial but she did not. I contacted them by email several times and never got a response. On May 2, 14 days before trial was up, Norton took $84.79 out of my acct which resulted in a $37 overdraft fee. The bank told me that they took another $84.79 that day. I called Norton and I thought it was take care of but when I called the bank they told me they only reversed one charge. I called Norton and was hung up on 3 times! I was told I would have to pay $100 to cancel something I never signed up for!!! Please help!

I ordered the Norton Security software because PCMag rated it highly. I tried to install it several times but always came up with the same error message (even after following Norton's instructions). After an hour and a half of being frustrated, I contacted them for a refund. The first guy hung up on me and the second guy told me to go through PayPal (since I purchased through them) to get my refund because we don't do that. What has happened to this company??? I have used them in the past and was willing to give them another shot. I even had a technical issue a few years back and they got everything resolved right away. In 2009 I replaced my Windows based computer with an iMac. The old PC was off to the land fill. I did not install Norton on my iMac. Since then Norton security has helped themselves to about $90 a year of my money even though I never approved this auto renewal. I am not sure how they even got my credit card number as I don't think I had the card they billed it to this year back in 2009. I took it up with Capital One but they sided with Norton since they are in cahoots. The best they could do for me was not bill me next year. We will see when January rolls around.

I have been using Norton Security for several years with no problems. Went to renew my security and ordered 1 x 3 Yearly Subscription and got an email informing me that the order had failed so when reviewing my order in the email they had charged me 2 x 3 Yearly Subscriptions which would explain why the order failed. Called customer service to fix this as I did not have enough money for this to transfer go through and has left it pending in my savings account. Told me they wouldn't be able to do anything as it was on hold and had to let it process the order (which was not going to happen anytime soon due to there is not enough money in my bank) and if I wanted to cancel it I would have to go through my bank.
So I had to call my bank to cancel the transaction but to cancel the transaction I had to cancel my card. Luckily I can use my phone to make withdrawals and payments. For a mistake that was caused completely by them and telling me there is nothing they can do to fix it except for me to cancel my card is absolutely infuriating. To say I'm disappointed is a major understatement especially when I have been a loyal customer for several years.

Caveat emptor - I had automatic renewal on my Norton Antivirus account. I realized several months later that my account had been charged. I called to reverse the charges they stated after 60 days they could not do anything. Several months prior to Norton charging my account, I had purchased a new computer with software already installed. I did forget about the automatic renewal, my mistake, no more automatic renewals for me. The best they offered was to extend my account 180 days. I don't need the software my computer already has it.

My computer is only a year old but they told me the problem was with the server. They found many problems. The first one I contacted wanted $99.00 to fix it. He was very rude!!! The second one found a lot of problems and wanted $139.00 to fix it. I said no to both of them. I told the last one I have tech service and would go to my own tech. He tried to discourage me. Said only he could fix it.
I contacted my own tech. She did not find any problems with my computer. She managed to download the program in a reasonable time. Norton is running a scam!!! I will use this for the year I have it for, but at the end of the year I will change over to a reputable company. Since this is the first time I am using Norton, I cannot comment on how well it performs.

My Norton Internet Security protects me well with its Firewall, auto updates, monthly reports, keeps my information private, protects up to five devices. Firstly, I buy Norton when it falls on sale. It's extremely easy to renew or install anew. I have been using Norton for years and it has always been trouble free. It has detected bad sites and informs me immediately. I never have viruses. Now and then Norton informs me of having stopped an attempt on my computer. I receive a monthly popup report of all that it has protected me from etc. I remain trouble free. Friendly but sometimes they do not understand your issue, but you eventually get it fixed. I like the optimizer and cloud scanner however, they stopped using the registry editor, I miss that, and sometimes it is over protective and it does have a feature that will permit a program. Well the price keeps going up. I do like the multi device option. It catches many viruses, spams and potential hacks almost everyday. I have had other brands, Trend and AVG, and McAfee. Norton is the BEST. Norton will slow your PC a little, but that is because it is being protective. Protection is most important.

Excellent value for 5 devices. It cost is very reasonable and lower than most other name brand antivirus software. It has always kept my computer completely clean of all antivirus bugs. I used Norton 360 Premium and it had antivirus, firewall, password manager vault, wireless protection, tune up tools. It was as complete as any I have seen. It is expensive but I never had a virus or malware get through and my wife goes to some strange sites shopping. It recovers space during the using of the tools and defrags the computer. I had to reinstall it a couple of times in the beginning. The software is very good protection, but and it is a big but, Norton is insidious as far as putting itself all over your computer. Several other antivirus software systems are about as good but I like the options available in Norton. Like all antivirus software Norton is very reliable as long as you watch for and avoid odd sites and unexpected downloads from emails and websites. This is a good antivirus software but I still shut it down and run a different antivirus scanner at least once a week in case something slips thru Norton. So far I have only found three items that slipped thru Norton in the last two years. In my opinion no one should depend on any one antivirus completely.

Customer support people are not easy to reach outside the normal 8-5 business hours, and they almost always need to check with someone else to get the answer. The file backup and restoration features are nice, but they are unnecessary duplication of the "free" backup that comes with the operating systems, and it unnecessarily hikes the price higher. For the scope of anti-virus and anti-spam protections (e.g. email, in the boot sector), it is an excellent value. They now have it so the annual fee covers multiple devices, not just one computer.
Between February 2015 and December 2015, it still let two viruses onto my computer. I use the computer heavily, sometimes as much as 10 or more hours per day. It is possible I was one of the "earliest hit" victims of a new virus before they identified and made a protective update for those two viruses. I was not a happy camper. I am a "superuser" and have over 300Gb of data. For that scope of data on my computer, and my constant usage of more than 20 open windows that uses more than 3 or 4 software applications plus the Internet, this product holds up extremely well with minimal (or no) slowing of the computer's speed.

I asked him, if that were true, how was I able to continue to do scans. He had no answer. He then asked to take over my computer so that he could show me. I allowed that and then he asked me for my password. I made one up. Supposedly using my phony password, he immediately showed me a list of "errors" in my computer.
Since he did not have my password, and could not have compiled this huge list of errors that quickly, I know he showed me a fake screen made to look as though I had these errors. I then asked him to run my Norton scan to remove these errors and he balked. I told him that I would do it. He insisted that I could not and had to renew my subscription. I called the Norton Online help... 1st level technician was unable to get the product to work so it was escalated to the 2nd level... 2nd level spent 2 hours fiddling in the computer remotely and finally mentioned to me that he was finished and just wanted to do a check disk to complete his work. After 2 hours, the computer was still only showing a 10% completion. I called Norton back and finally got through to the case manager that was working on my computer and told him the issue. He was unsure why the computer stalled, but asked that I turn my computer off, then on again.
I asked twice if they were sure that they wanted to do this and was told yes to proceed. I did this and my computer screen went black and never came back. I run my own consulting business and now a perfectly good computer is totally unusable! Norton said they couldn't help me further? They washed their hands of the issue... I had to call HP... HP was not able to recover my computer either over the phone, so I had to pay $336 to have them work on my computer. I paid the money and shipped the computer to HP. The HP technicians were also not able to restore my computer and had to change out the HD and motherboard to get my computer back. I lost all data and was without my work computer for 2 months. HUGE inconvenience and out of pocket $336 too.
Once I got my computer back, I called Norton to complain that their actions and instructions fried my computer... they denied that their actions and instructions damaged my computer and that it was a total coincidence that my computer hardware just failed??? So I contacted the support team for an online chat, explained the problem that Norton did not find the worms in the registry of my Windows 10 or Windows 7. After the chat, I noticed that the agent added a virtual remote trojan horse to the system, tried to alter my windows kernel, and added more infections to the system.
Now, my windows 10 wants me to reactivate windows. When I use my key to reactivate windows, the message claims that windows is already activated. When I reboot the system, I noticed that the Virtual Trojan horse is removed and reinstalled after the system reboots. I have removed all the so-called remote chat tools, but still have to activate my windows due to the added components that was placed on my system by the remote chat representative. I have tried to work with Norton IS for the past two years and the software performed well but I could not say the same of the technical support staff. On the rare occasions when I needed their help, what I said/requested was totally discarded. I tried to reclaim control of my machine but I was ignored, bullied, or hanged up. Due to heavy (Indian?) accent I could not always understand what was being said at a speech delivery emulating that of an auctioneer. Today I renewed my subscription but the installation seemed to stop short and when I checked my account, the renewal, it did not show. I called tech support and asked how I could verify that the new software had been installed. I was told at once that it had. I queried how he could tell on the phone and he said it had been downloaded. I repeated that I was not asking about the download but the apparent short-ended install.
I was tediously made to go over all the BASIC check-ups that I had already done and I asked again for a more tangible proof. He became obnoxious, I hanged up this time. I built my own machine so I can grasp basic tests. I call tech support only when I need a professional level guidance but I never get it from Norton, all I get is sour grapes. To add insult to injury, I had found a link which would take me to an internet verification. When I tried to use it, I got a message saying that my browser was outdated and that Norton did not work with outdated equipment. WHAT!
I have Firefox 42 which is CURRENT; I checked it just to be sure. When I asked the grumpy tech person about the denial of internet help, he repeated the content of the written message. I said that my browser was not outdated; he replied that 43 was now the number to use. This must be a Beta version which has NOT been offered for upgrade as yet, not to me anyway. These Norton tech gangsters are the ultimate pit. I am getting a US internet security with polite US technical support staff. Yes there is one such rarity and it is called Malwarebytes. I am definitely OUT of this NIS galère.

I had Norton Antivirus on my laptop PC for 2 years. During that time I noticed my PC ran slowly and was subject to brief freezes and exceedingly long access times when opening files & folders as well as unusually long access times to the internet. After trying to fix the problems myself via reviewing the Start-Up processes in Task Manager and etc, I came across several reviews by folks having similar issues. The common denominator comments were related to Norton Antivirus as being a major system resource "hog", and thus slowing down overall performance.
I decided to heed the info and UNINSTALLED Norton Antivirus. Amazingly I now find that my PC is running at the speed it should be and file access and Internet use is light speeds faster than before. I now use AVAST antivirus and love the design of their product and the fact that it does not have any adverse impact upon PC performance. I realize Norton used to be a great product, but perhaps it has not enhanced basic code structure in its product to prevent these problems. Not sure.

After many, many years of using Norton Antivirus software, I guess we are done. My husband bought a new copy of the software (360 for 3 machines) a little less than a year ago to have on hand for when our subscriptions expired. His expired a couple of days ago so he attempted the installation. All went ok until it was time to activate it. It claimed that this copy was not valid for our geographic area. What? We bought it locally, in the same tech store we always buy our computer hardware/software. And why would there be a restriction on its usage anyway??? We clicked on the link to see what to do. It was not helpful at all.
We ended up going back to the store and buying a different product and will not be using Norton any longer. So there is $100 down the tubes. Also, one of the reasons we got this last year is because it has become increasingly impossible to find the Norton software in the stores, so we thought we'd better grab it when we found it. Does this mean they are not doing so well with all the competition out there? Very disturbing experience.

As of this review writing, I've had to restart my elderly father's PC and restart Norton 360 installation. It locked up the PC and failed to respond the first try. I'm on the second try and it's "failing to respond" and I've opted to wait for the program to continue (unlock itself) which it did. The issue I'm having is no progress bar to show where the program is in its installation execution; is it really installing or is it hung up again? It was a Win7 O/S but my elderly father decided to touch buttons and saw "free" without reading about what Win10 does to his particular PC that I've customized per his needs. I have no idea how long this installation will take and the tech support at Norton is outsourced and difficult to understand; only helpdesk techs not support specialists (reading scripts only). Glad I don't have this software on my Windows PC.

I will never purchase Norton again. I have used Norton for years now, but this time around will be my last. My computer is brand new, Windows 8.1, all the bells and whistles, and all the space is still available, so it is not that I have limited room for this program. Just opening Norton to run a full scan took 5 minutes for it to respond. The full scan took literally hours to complete. When it was finished I could not close the darn Norton window! I had to Ctrl/Alt/Del to get into the task bar to close it! Something as simple as this tells me that this program has become increasingly unstable.
I have used Norton for 15 years now. I always thought that it was a large program and that all antivirus programs would cause your computer to run slow. That is until I started reading similar stories like mine. I will be uninstalling Norton and purchasing another more STABLE virus for my system. I am now not looking forward to uninstalling Norton based on what I have read from other consumers here. It seems as if that too is a real hassle as well. Shame on you Norton... seems that you are not concerned at all about your customers, or your reputation for that matter.

She was very rude. I told her she was rude to me. She said "** old lady" and hung up on me. Needless to say, I was FURIOUS. Next call, 855-815-2726, FREE, Philippines. I requested a manager in the US, was told I would have to give my name and wait 2 days for a call back and was hung up on. Next, 650 527 8000. Operator answer. I again requested to speak to a manager, I was hung up on. Next 800 721 3934, FREE again, hung up on. Next 877 681 1244, FREE, advertised as Norton customer service, representative answered, said it is iyogi?
Next 800 927 3991, FREE, spoke to Shailefh in India. He said "this is the first time you called Norton." Unreal. I said I wanted to cancel the service and they had the worst customer service I have ever encountered, said it will be cancelled, gave me case number **. I then called my bank, my credit card company, spoke to "Jocque". Also not in the US. He said if we don't get our money back, to call back and dispute it. I know this is long. Beyond frustrating.

I was having problems putting the Norton Antivirus on my laptop so I rang the helpline. I was then guided through installing the antivirus (they actually did it for me by taking control of the computer). He repeatedly told me that he was going to sort out all the issues that he had seen on the laptop (which is only 6 months old). This call went on for about an hour. He then said that if I had any problems in the future I was to call him and he would sort everything out for me at which point he typed on my screen the cost of this cover, 130 for one year but because I was a woman and a OAP I could have the special offer for two years!
At this point I told him all I wanted was for him to install my antivirus not sell me anything. He said he wasn't trying to sell me anything which he clearly was, I am so angry about this. I feel it is an absolute con, totally unethical and dishonest. Not sure if the antivirus has been put on the computer as he said he couldn't do it because of the problems so 25 wasted and now they have phoned me 5 or 6 times.

When renewing our Norton product we were asked to confirm the serial number of the product or cancel the purchase. Unable to confirm the product's serial number we chose to cancel the transaction. Once the transaction was cancelled we purchased the product again with the correct information, installing the product with no problems. An issue arose when our account was charged twice, once for the cancelled transaction the other for the installed product. We contacted Norton customer service and were asked if we would like a partial refund (50%) for a one year extension on the installed product. We chose to decline and despite repeating to the customer service rep that I expected my account to be credited $64.00 we were partially refunded. Believing it was an issue of miscommunication on both ends my spouse called Norton again to determine why we had been partially refunded.
She told the representative that she would like to take off the additional year and receive the full refund. The representative said that she would be refunding us the remaining balance ($35) and that we would receive a confirmation email shortly, confirming the email address over the phone. Two hours later, we had not received a confirmation email, so we called Norton customer service AGAIN to request that the confirmation email be resent. At this point, my wife has fully acknowledged that she could have been more clear with the first customer service representative and is only confused as to what mix up had occurred with the second representative. When she called the third time she was not yelling, rude or unreasonable but addressed in such a manner by the third customer service representative. He continually raised his voice over her when she was trying to explain what had happened or answer a question, cutting her off multiple times. When he asked to put her on hold my wife stated that she didn't think that was for the best as it did not seem like they were on the same page.
Attempting to clarify she was cut off again and told that she would be put on hold. I had asked my wife if she was given the representative name right before hearing she was placed on hold. It did not take long, give or take five minutes, being connected back to our representative. A much clearer voice and calmer tone greeted us, making it hard to believe that this was the same guy cutting us off earlier. He began explaining to my wife, as she had been told multiple times before, that we could receive a 50% refund for a one year extension; we declined again but that this time before getting off the line he waited for us to receive our confirmation email for our full refund. Having received the email, I asked for the case number and his name. I could not believe the hassle we underwent, my wife spoken to in a demeaning manner, all over the request for a duplicate email. Thank goodness the matter has been solved but we cannot say that we will be using Norton in the future.

I am a 15-year user of Norton and over the years I have had my issues, so last year I decided to purchase the added protection of virus removal. I had a wonderful experience on 5/2015. The guy accessed my computer and fixed everything. But I noticed it was slowing down, so I called them again. This was the first rep conversation, "I will access your computer." Then she ran all the scans I run daily and told me, "I found nothing, your computer is fine." I told her, "How would you know? You just did everything I do daily." So she got mad and took control of my computer again. I could not talk to her, and she had control of my cursor. I tried several times to type and could not, so I disconnected immediately. I called back. The next girl said yes she did what was standard.
I told the second girl I purchased the added security, virus and malware removal. She told me the only way she would do that is if I signed up for auto renewal. I told her no. She said she had to speak to her supervisor. I have one year left on this subscription. She came back and said she would transfer me, but she was doing it for FREE. FREE, I paid for it, so after being on hold for 10 minutes, I hung up. I can say they lost a good customer.

If I open the task manager on any of these computers, Norton is running in the red and is using 148% disc usage, 125 % CPU and over 100% memory usage, which is a common problem these days with many people on Norton blogs. Norton no longer has any direct phone lines to contact them. Go figure and their chat line staff are of no help as they have a standard answer every time to this problem, "It's your computer, not our program". You want to tell maybe a couple hundred thousand people that?
So here is what happened today. No Norton 80 plus days left on my account and access to my account closed. Now that is a great way to run a business. Your program has slowed down thousands of computers over the last two months to the point of total non-responsive. Checking the task manager, the Norton consumption is way off the map even when it running very little. Your software staff have some serious problems as they seem to #1 don't care anymore, or # 2 you are not interested in internet security anymore so you're letting the system slide and will abandon it to bad that Symantec took you over. About a year ago my computer started being unresponsive. Calling Norton Support resulted in uninstalling and reinstalling their program (first Norton 360, then Norton Security. Each time I reported that Task manager indicated disk access on my Windows 8 (then later Windows 10) computer was going to 100%. Each time, the support person reinstalled the product but told me Windows was at fault. After a year, weary of this monthly reinstall, I sat down and thought about the problem. (1) Reinstalling Norton solved the problem for a month when it then reoccurred; (2) stopping Norton made the problem go away; (3) rebooting made the problem go away for 20 minutes, the time set in the application for automatic processes to resume. Clearly, Norton was running an announced and automatic process every thirty days that cause disk access to go to 100%. I made the assumption that a full scan of the files on my computer was the culprit.
So, one last time I contacted Norton but this time, instead of stating my problem as before, I asked how to turn off the automatic monthly full scan and immediately was told where in the application to do this. At least 12 support staff and two supervisors missed seeing that the 30-day repeat of the problem was caused by this hidden-from-notice full scan. I can only rate the support offered as deplorable.

I was finally able to get an "Online Chat" representative after waiting for one frustrating hour online unable to do anything else, although at first he wouldn't acknowledge I was being charged (It was clearly on my bank statement). He has agreed to turn off the auto-renew so we will see in due course if it works. This is clearly an underhand tactic by Norton to extract money from its customers, even when they are not using the product anymore by making it very, very difficult to cancel. After the most recent renewal I noticed that it no longer included the registry cleaner (Windows). Since I had found that cleaning the registry from time to time kept boot time down, I was frustrated about the missing function. On inquiry I was told that Symantec had surreptitiously decided to drop it from the package. That action flies in the face of commercial honesty and transparency. If you offer automatic renewal of a service, you are obligated to provide at least equivalent functionality, or get your customers' explicit approval for any downgrading. I attempted to get my Google Search back in and had difficulty. Called Norton. The people in the support center overseas wanted to come into my computer to do it. I told them that I would do it and to walk me through it. They started to tell me to do things which had nothing to do with my problem. I told them then they wanted to come in again.
After hours of going back and forth with them. I asked for US Support. They were no help either. I filed a complaint with the BBB and with US consumer affairs. After receiving the BBB complaint, Norton called me and walk me through, taking the horrible About.com off my computer. I found out that other members of my family had the same problem and was able to help them remove About.com from their computers. It is funny that the company that is suppose to keep you from someone taking over your browser is the one that is doing it to you!!!

I called this Norton to cancel my account because I was giving away the computers to a family member. I spoke with a man and he said that the account was going to be cancelled but it was not. I paid off the credit card I used and stored it because I was going to be out of the country and had no use for it, nor had access to check anything related to this matter. Since I thought that the account was closed and credit card paid off I had nothing to worry about while I was away.
I came back 4 months later to a late fees on my credit card from a past due balance of $95.39. After many calls to Norton, with no help, I called the Citi Cards to start a dispute. After waiting a month I get a letter saying that the request was denied, because they were provided. They are requesting a number of documentations that I don't even know or remember. I never write reviews, but I felt the need to write a review as a warning for others so they don't go through what I did. Please when you call to cancel something write the name, ID, date, time, and any information that will help you in a future. Be aware of this company. Thank you for reading.

I am a Comcast subscriber and I called Comcast a bazillion times to inform them that Norton security keeps disabling and shutting off my Trend Micro Security. I know it's them because I go into Regedit and find Norton files that I deleted the day before. I guess they must think this is funny that they sit behind their computers and agitate Comcast customers who don't use their security but I am fed up... It's not your job Norton (from India) to mess with my computer and disable a security that I paid for and I will be calling the Federal Trade Commission to report shotty business practices. Also Comcast should care enough about their customers (but clearly they don't) to look into what their subcontractors are doing to the customers... The reason I don't use Norton for free being a Comcast customer is because they were not securing my connection.

For the second time the communication between my laptop and printer has been blocked by Norton 360. The previous time I had an external company fix and was told to get rid of Norton. This time I have spent half a day with their tech support trying to get it fixed and despite interminable waits they can't fix it. Do I really have to pay someone externally to fix this? This does seem to be a common problem.

I needed to renew my Norton virus Protection, which I thought I did. I paid the $75.04. But I kept getting messages that I had no virus protection. I tried to rectify the situation, but found the system and the two chat people very "unfriendly". Apparently you can not speak with a rep by phone? So after over two hours I told ** "you was not very helpful, forget it". The a Mr. ** from the Philippines called me and actually was pleasant, professional and solved the problem. Although at the end of the day, even with **'s help, the whole process took over three hours, no exaggeration; I finally did get "hooked up" to Norton Virus Protection. I will only renew next year because of Mr. ** not because of the Norton unfriendly, very slow, interaction and renewal process. Thank you.

Today 6/12/15 I called Norton customer service because I noticed that Norton took an automatic payment of $79.99 out of my checking acct last Friday. I called Norton to ask why as I had cancelled their service and this payment last month. They refunded me the $79.99 last month and assured me that it would not happen again! So, I called to see why it happened again and they told me I had never called! Well wrong answer! I had all the info from them and my bank!
At this point I was very upset and they knew it! I went around and around with them for over 35 minutes! FINALLY they found my info and cancelled the acct and refunded me the $79.99 AGAIN! Promising me that it would not happen again! We will see if it does or not! I will report them if it happens again! I just have to say I have had nothing but trouble with this company and will NEVER use them again! Oh and after all this they tried to sell me their services! Beware when you use this company. It turned into a major problem for me!

I upgraded my browser, the product stopped working. I called/chatted with support, remote login resulting in multiple blue screen crashes, escalated to case manager then to engineering. Engineering to call back, no call back. 11 hours over 2 days wasted. Another call/chat to support, second verse same as the first. Another 14 hours wasted. A third call/chat, ditto, ended with "engineering has a solution and will call you 6/5 to implement." No call. A chat just ended, what call promised? What solution? "Sir we want to help you, just allow us to log into your system." Norton support is useless and dishonest. Additionally when Norton comes on this site and posts "A resolution is pending", be advised that is not the case.

We bought and paid for the Norton anti-virus protection on May 23rd or May 24th. The payment cleared our banking account on May 27th and now they are saying we are still not covered! We do not keep papers laying around with the confirmation number on it, but I can fax them my bank statement showing that the payment made was to Norton for $133.10 exactly the amount it takes to have them cover my PC!!! Over the past 4 years, since we have used this service, we have still had to take our PC into the shop to have it worked. On the last time it had over 4,000 viruses on it and believe me that was not the first time this has happened. Every single time we have to take it in to be worked on it has a unlimited amount of viruses on it that should not be there!!!
Norton is not doing their job at all, I would not recommend them to anyone! There are other companies out there that I am sure, no, positive, do a hell of a lot better job than Norton does, or every time we take our PC in to have it worked on it would not be due (solely due) to all the virus that are on it. I did get a hold of someone yesterday that was willing to install it for free again but then before she was done installing it, we were cut off from chatting with each other!!! How nice!

Escalated ticket. No response. Another chat, call, remote, nothing. Escalated ticket. No response. Another chat, looked at account supposedly but was unaware of any escalation. Norton is not who I need to deal with.

The same day we got an ad saying our service was due to expire in 3 days. We started getting innocuous pop-ups on practically every link we clicked online. Checked pop-up settings, ran a complete scan, no luck. Did online chat with customer service and let them control the computer. She uninstalled all the "bad apps" and when none of the scans worked she recommended we renew our service to fix the problem. We never had any problems until they wanted us to renew...

I tried to renew my Norton 360 online at a cost of over $65. Gave them my renewal bank info, which they took out of my bank account immediately. I spent over 2 hours trying to download the product, and continued to get an "error". I tried to get help to download it over the phone. And spent over 5 minutes on hold so I hung up. I called again this morning at 4 am and got a person from India, I told him that I wanted to cancel my renewal and was informed that it would take 5 to 7 business day to get my money back. They are totally incompetent. They cannot download their product with ease. I spent over 2 hours trying to download.

My Anti-virus expired and I had to renew it. When I downloaded the software I had a problem so I called them at and unfortunately this goes to India. The service man called ** said he needed to have access to my computer so he could see what was happening so I did. He said we would be able to communicate via "WebEx" - he said this would take some time and that he may have to reinstall the product so we hung up. After we hung up I did not see his cursor moving so I moved mine and then he began moving his. Only I started to see him opening up my documents and then he opened up some of my personal checks. I immediately knew he was searching through all my personal files. At this time he was only into it for about 2 minutes when I asked him via WebEx why he was searching through my personal stuff. I asked him to stop and that I was contacting Norton right away.
He then said he would stop and he apologized and said he was only trying to clean up files in my computer. I knew at this time he was trying to get personal information. I had him disconnect from my computer and contacted Norton right away. They told me to send the complaint to nortonmanagers@support01.norton.com. I also attached photos that I had taken with my iPhone of the communication we had going and stuff that he was downloading on my computer. I received a call from his supervisor that evening and he tried to cover up for his worker's actions by saying "Not to worry about it. He was only trying to be helpful."
I told the supervisor that this man was opening up all my personal files and it had nothing to do with reinstalling Norton. I told him that I wanted a full investigation and that this would not stop here. After I hung up I found a ton of files he placed into my recycling bin. He wanted to reboot my computer and I said no. I could also see him downloading a bing bar and it said it was gathering required information. I also see a gentlemen place a complaint such as mine on this site too! I am contacting the corporate office about this matter too.

I have placed several attempts with Norton to have their product cancelled (automatic renewal) from a PC of my mothers in which I installed their product. They have on several occasions over the years said that the wait time to talk to a supervisor was lengthy and that if I provided them with my phone number, they would call me back. Guess what? They never did. This time as well as the past, I had to deal with their CSRs talking over me and telling me that they wouldn't be able to help me because I wasn't the owner of the account. That is a ludicrous statement as I was the one that installed it, and it is my credit card that has been charged repeatedly year after year.
The software from the beginning slowed the PC down to the point that the PC was almost rendered useless and has not been active since 2009, but yet they continued to charge my credit card for a PC that an elderly person had over 6 years ago… If a customer calls about charges that are occurring from company and asks for the charges to cease, the charges should cease immediately, no questions asked!!! I have years worth of charges that they say they can't and will not reimburse. I truly thought that this was the absolute definition of fraud and was illegal here.

I've always thought Norton was slow, I've been lucky enough to avoid it for many years. The first thing I do with new computers is uninstall the free Norton that comes with 'em. But recently the new tech morons replaced our Eset Nod32 AV with Symantec. I've never been more pissed of in my life. My once awesome machine that use to handle photoshop rendering while running infinite loop scripts with ease, now can barely send a freakin' email without being brought to its knees. I might as well have a toaster on my desk. I hate this garbage-ware and hopefully soon I'll find a way to get this garbage off my computer. I've never had a need for AV on my personal equipment, but if I did, it would only be Eset Nod32, maybe mcaffee, but certainly not this technologic filth.

Beware Norton Help Services: This happened some years ago and I never bought nor used any Norton antivirus products since. At the time I wrote the following and was planning speaking to someone at Symantec, but there was no way to contact them. This morning I downloaded and attempted to install Norton AntiVirus 2008 on my laptop (an old one) which has Microsoft Professional and Windows XP. The 2008 version would not install because I did not have the Microsoft Service Pack 2 update (Service Pack 1 was in place).
I contacted Symantec customer support via phone (of course someone with a different native tongue) who said he could install the 2007 version instead, but would need to take "control" of my computer. We did that through "WebEx". I observed him moving my cursor around and he's typing in several commands on my screen. He had control for about 20 to 30 minutes and then he said this may take a while longer, so would I mind if he called me back in about 10 minutes. I said OK but continued to watch the computer screen.
Then something strange - he opened up "My Documents" from my desktop and continued exploring until he found "Quicken" - he then clicked on that to open it up - I immediately pulled the DSL cable from my computer. I suspect he was looking for some sensitive info, I don't know. I do have a lot of financial records in Quicken with bank accounts and account numbers and such.
My question is: There was about a five-minute delay and other lengthy periods of no activity on my screen while he had control. Could he have been somehow working in the background and gathering information (passwords and such) without my knowing it? I don't know, and I do have all my passwords on a Word file (although encrypted), and that bothers me.
His supervisor called me back and said they had lost contact. Of course I was pretty upset at this point but he pretended to not understand what I was talking about when I explained what had happened. I hung up and somehow managed to complete the 2007 Virus protection installation. Symantec never received the above write-up but I'd like to share the experience with anyone planning to use Symantec products.

At approximately 5:00 pm I got on the Norton website service and began a chat with one of the technicians. I was assigned case number **. I also informed the tech I had several problems with my computer. The tech said he would help me fix the problems. When it rebooted, it didn't work any better. So I got back onto the Norton Website to chat with another tech. He told me we had to remove Norton 360 and reinstall and that he would do this for me. On Tuesday February 17, 2015 I received a call that came up Unknown on my cell phone. A guy asked for me by my first name. He said he was calling to help me fix my computer problem. Right then I suspected something was not right because Norton techs worked on it the day before and they are the only ones that knew about the problem. In addition I gave Norton my cell phone number for the first time, so it is interesting this person called my cell.
I decided to play along. I said it would be great if they could help me. I said what number he was calling me from? He said 844-999-9666. I said, "What is the name of your company?" He said "FIX BY TECH". He even spelled out the name. I asked him what his name was and he said ** which he also spelled out. He had a foreign accent so I figured that was not his real name. I then asked him how much this would cost. He said between $50 and $150 to fix. I said that would be good, what do I need to do. He asked if I was near my computer and I said not at the minute. I said I could not do it right now but I will do it and call him. He said if you call that number, ask for ** who was the person in charge and she would get my computer fixed.
I believe Norton employees are passing confidential information out to other people who are trying to take advantage of people who use their services. Is there something we can do about it? My neighbor had the same issue with Norton. I did speak to a **, Norton Executive Escalation Case Manager, the day I had this issue. He took down my information but did not offer any other assistance. You would think he would have offered me free Identity Theft Monitoring but they don't seem to care. Why are they not informing the public of this breach? Approximately one month later I received another call on my cell phone from this company wanting to fix my computer.
