    I was cheated. I paid and renewed but the software shut off. I was told that they were having a glitch on the voice recording. I was told to pay $89 despite having paid my yearly fee. I got Malware, which, they said on the voice recording, was a problem. Windows will probably not work with companies like you. And outsourcing to India for help has proven to be a necessity. Thank you.

    When I started my day yesterday, I found auto-scanning turned off. I tried turning it on but it did not work. It immediately turned itself off again. I called tech support, which tried and failed to insert their iYogi robot on my system so they could share my desktop. So they suggested a $200 annual support contract and $130 one-time resolution. I was able to determine that the issue was a missing file, but I had no source for it. I then removed McAfee from my system and attempted to re-install it, but installation failed due to a different missing file. I finally bought another security system, which I installed and then used to scan my entire system. It found several suspect files, including two Trojans that McAfee missed. McAfee is not recommended!

    During a recent technical support call made to Cox Communications, a representative shared that there is no cost for the McAfee anti-virus protection for Cox Communications' customers. When I learned of the partnership between Cox and McAfee, I was utterly surprised and angry. For several years, I have paid between $59.99 to $79.99 annual renewal costs to McAfree only to learn that this service is free. While Toni shared that there is no way for McAfee to be able to identify a Cox customer for exemption from annual anti-virus renewal, I completely disagree given my email extension clearly shows 'cox.net'. How would I go about seeking a refund for the monies paid out during the period of the partnership between McAfee and Cox Communications?

    I purchased a new Dell computer on April 26, 2012. It had McAfee anti-virus installed for 30 days free. During these 30 days everything worked fine. On May 22, I purchased McAfee anti-virus 2012 for $60.00 and installed the product on my PC last May 27, 2012. The PC was used on the 29th of May for one hour and then on June 1, 2012. After checking my e-mail and starting to do a web search on Google for a music artist, the PC locked up and said there were 9 viruses and to cure this problem a credit card needed to be used with a $100 charge to restore this computer.

    I called a local computer tech store and they said it was a virus and the computer would need to come into their store for repair. The local computer store installed Trend Micro Titanium 2012 and restored my PC back to original. That’s $107.00 at the computer store to fix what $60.00 caused in less than one week. Now, it has cost $167 and 130 miles at 0.40 cents a mile driven to purchase a McAfee disaster and to take and pick back up the one-month old PC. Hopefully, the problem is taken care of. Note to all: McAfee costs more and works for a really short time. $60.00 would have been cheap protection if it would have lasted longer than a week. Sincerely, it’s $219.00.

    I found out today that McAfee has been billing me annually because I didn't tell them to cancel my "trial" subscription. I never agreed to a subscription and I never used their product. It came pre-installed on my old Dell computer. After an hour with them on the phone today, they said there was nothing they could do. I said, "Okay, let me see if I have this right. You have charged my account annually for the past few years even though I have never given you authorization to do that or ever established an account? Now you are saying there is nothing you can do. Is that about it?" I call that stealing. They kept insisting there was nothing they could do. Maybe a class action lawsuit would wake them up.

    I checked my email and I get auto-renewal notice from McAfee. The credit card information they had expired the previous month and I didn't want to renew with them so I did not update my credit card information when they sent me an email the previous week stating they wouldn't be able to renew my subscriptions because the credit card on file will expire. But they charged to it anyway and my credit card accepted the charge? The McAfee person told me they have a deal with credit card companies that allow them to steal at their own leisure, apparently.

    I called on behalf of my 80-year old mother who could not make an error alert on her computer to go away, even after she paid McAfee the yearly renewal fee. She called four times and each time, an employee from the technical support team accessed her computer, falsely claiming to have fixed it. In about a week to ten days, it flashed across the screen again, often in the middle of her getting her email and necessitating that she abort the session. The problem with this company is that they are all about taking your money and giving you little to no service.

    Before you buy a McAfee software, know this: There is no USA-based customer service and you will be calling India, which has a lower customer service acumen. They waste your time asking you the same question over and over, then transferring you around. When my mother asked for a refund (which by the way is on one of the menu choices), they refused and instead transferred her around again. I will be billing McAfee for the inconvenience and time per minute. I will also report this to the attorney general's office for fraud and give them a bad rating wherever and whenever possible. Never buy any McAfee product!

    I awoke Friday to five charges of $106.99. That’s over $500 in charges for McAfee renewal! I never had McAfee, never used McAfee, and more importantly, never gave them my credit card number. I called my bank and was told that McAfee auto renewed my subscription. I immediately put in a dispute claim. I then called McAfee who gave me the generic know nothing customer service rep.

    Someone used a fake email address and my ATM card number to buy 5 years in advance of a premium software. The service rep kept acting like this was me, even trying to convince me to keep a service I never received (more importantly, never wanted). I asked for a supervisor who they "are trying to find," they put you on hold, check to see if you’re still holding a few times then hang up on you. When you call back, they say the supervisors are busy and to give them your actual email address and phone number and they’ll call you back. There’s no way I’m giving them my real info so they can charge me again! I understand someone stole my info but shouldn’t some blame be on McAfee? It should require more than an email address, especially one that doesn’t actually exist, to spend $500. This company sucks. I’ll update as soon as I get some kind of end result.

    I bought a laptop along with the McAfee virus CD on 2/2012 and did all the paperwork and mailed it in. Even I received an email saying that they received my rebate form, so I waited and waited. Finally, I contacted 1 (866) 880-9661 service number, where they can track your rebate information. It happens to be that they did not input the UPC code. I was angry, that meant that I had to wait an additional 4 to 6 more weeks. They did not call or mail me anything, all the info was in the form that I mailed in. You tell me whether they're doing their job. I never again will do a rebate. We are not stupid people, we know what we pay for and if this company can't pay us of what they advertise on their promising dates, then they need to stop rebating to people.

    Even though I purchased an anti-virus program from them, a virus slipped into my computer and took over my computer. I had to pay an additional 238 dollars to remove this virus. I had to give them access to my computer in order for them to remove this virus. I don't know if they took personal information from my computer that can be use to produce documents in order to enter this country. Why the government is not on top of this is beyond me.

    On 12-12-11, I called MacAfee to renew my virus protection. When they finished, they said I needed to have fifteen things removed from my computer and it would work much better for $169.00. I said ok. They sent me to a company call iYogi. When they finished, my computer did not work at all. All it said is this: “We are sorry for the inconvenience, but someone added some new software.” I had to buy a new computer. The computer expert said it would cost more to fix it as it would to buy a new one, so I bought anew one. The computer costs $438. I had to buy a new printer also. The old one would not work with the new one and it cost $100.

    I purchased the McAfee 3-user software system on Black Friday of 2011. I wasn't even going to buy it, but I figured it was free, so why not? I mailed in my rebate information that day and it was not even processed until the end of January. I went online to track the status of my rebate and I got, "Your payment was processed on 01/15. Please allow 30 days to receive your check." I called them on February 20, which is enough time. I called them to check on the status and the woman asked, "So what is the problem?" I told her I had not yet received my check and she said she would reissue one. She gave me the "old check number" several times, telling me she didn't want me to have to pay the fess at my bank for the bad check. I rechecked it. Now, it says it was processed on 02/29 and there’s still no check from them. As I can see from this site, this is a common problem.

    I submitted my rebate and received an email so I could track it. I checked the status online and it was denied. I called to ask why it was denied. I was told that they couldn't see any reason why, so the status was changed. I waited for my rebate. After almost 3 months, I called again to find out where it was. I was told that they weren't sure why I hadn't received it, but they would reissue the prepaid Visa card. I received the card shortly after that call. However, since the card was reissued, they had deducted $6.95 as a reissue fee. I think that McAfee hopes that people won't check on their rebates and they avoid paying them in this way. I believe that this is their policy: make people contact them several times before even initiating a payment. And in many cases as people have stated, they never get paid.

    I purchased the McAfee Total protection 3 license version on Feb 22, 2012. I submitted the rebate form with proof of payment. It was denied on 13th of March, 2012 because they said I did not submit proof of purchase. How did I download 2 copies if I did not buy it? Very shady dealings and McAfee needs to be held accountable for this $35.00 rebate. Many people have been duped by this scam and it needs to be stopped.

    I recently discovered that this charge was placed to my bank account: MCAFEE 866-622-3911 TX for $84.39. I do not use McAfee! I use a good service called Norton. This McAfee company needs to be shut down - fraud! McAfee's stealing money from my bank account, stealing money from numerous people. I do not use them and after seeing their illegal practices, how do these people stay in business?! Shut them down now!

    I removed McAfee (free trial with PC) from my computer 2 days ago. I was happy with the software but wanted to load a higher-rated program. My experience makes me rate McAfee's internet protection program as a virus itself. I spent 10 hours getting my PC to work properly after uninstalling McAfee and only succeeded when I found a third-party removal program that removed all traces of McAfee programming.

    2 days after the removal, I noticed that the PC was not accessing other computers or printers in my home network. I spent 7 hours, trying to play with the peer services and other settings in a failed attempt to get Win 7 to recognize the home group on my network. Finally, I used a restore point to get the PC back to a workable setup. Only after trying to uninstall McAfee again, did I begin to suspect it as the source of my problems. I had been blaming the new software. Even so, it was another 3 hours before I had removed all traces of this program from my PC.

    I will never install another McAfee product on a home PC. Any company that causes these many problems should not be in the PC protection business. They obviously put to use what they learn from the virus and malware applications they nominally protect against.

    I purchased the McAfee virus protection plan in September 2011 and mailed the rebate information in and initially was told that the check was mailed in 11/12/2011, which was never received. This check was cancelled and reissued again on January 3, 2012 with a comment about they don't have control of the postal service. This check also was not received with the same excuse about the postal services. A third check was reissued with another address, which was a work address, and mailed out January 30, 2012. Well, as of today, March 3, 2012, it has not been received. I spoke with a "manager" with the rebate center which said that she does not understand why they have not been received but I could change the address again. I told her to reissue at the same address. It appears that based on the other complaints it may be time for a "class action suit".

    I woke up this morning to discover that McAfee had charged my credit card 11 times for $106.99, for a grand total of $1,176.89, for the renewal of their anti-virus software for the next 11 years. First of all, who buys 11 years of antivirus software? Secondly, I have never been a McAfee customer. I have never run McAfee, even as a free trial. After calling my bank, and being given the phone number associated with the transactions, I called McAfee. They explained that I had purchased the 11 years of service on Monday, using the email address **.

    First of all, that's not my email address, and secondly, it's not a valid email address with Yahoo. Since I did not recognize the email address, Hazel at McAfee said that they were most likely fraudulent. Because I could not give them the phony email address, they could not verify that I was the person placing the original order, so they were unwilling to cancel the transactions. Even after stating that they were fraudulent. Now I start the lengthy process of disputing the charges with my bank. Thanks to all of you, I will make sure that they don't try to auto renew in 12 years.

After following all instructions carefully, I still have not received my money, and when I checked on the status of the rebate the site says that it has no information about my rebate.

    Last summer, I purchased the virus protection based on their rebate program. I very carefully followed their rebate filing instructions to avoid anything that may give them a chance to avoid giving me my rebate. I did not get the larger rebate advertised. I did, however, get the smaller $25 rebate. They have an "idiot system" set up to take their complaints! These people pretend to understand your problem and keep repeating the same things to you. You get so frustrated that you just hang up the phone and forget about it. I also had misplaced the $25. I did get the check and it expired after 90 days.

    I called to request a replacement check. Finally someone from Plano, Texas contacted me and told me they have no record of this check! Their check number is right on it and I offered to mail them a copy and I got no reply. Neither have I yet to get my other rebated check. What kind of a company has no record of their checks?!

    McAfee charged my credit card for a renewal. I have never used McAfee. I have another virus control company that I use. I called Wells Fargo C.C. and put in a dispute. I called McAfee and they could not find any record of me and said to just dispute with C.C. company. Wells Fargo called today to say "tough luck" that I have had McAfee since 2010 under a free trial. Apparently, I did not notice the charge last year. I called McAfee again and lo and behold, today, they found me in their system but it was 12 days over their 60 day limit so tough luck again, no refund. If Wells Fargo doesn't refund my money, I will cancel my credit card.

    After using McAfee for a few months in 2008, it was clear that my computer was getting infected (twice) anyhow. I cancelled the service in 2008. After I received an email from McAfee today telling me my subscription was expiring soon, I went to their site to discover not only do I still have an account, I have been billed for the last four years. I called them and after speaking to a customer service manager, they were unwilling or unable to issue a refund. Their products are supposed to protect you instead you end up hiring the thief.

    On November 18, I received an email that my McAfee subscription had been automatically renewed. On November 20, I emailed McAfee, following their cancellation procedures and requested they cancel my subscription. I also requested a refund for $96.29 that was charged to my visa. I waited 2 months before changing the automatic renewal since I had not heard from them. I eliminated my visa card number. I again emailed and except for a response that a "service order" had been submitted when I originally emailed in November, I have heard nothing.

    I purchased McAfee 2011 on 9/14 and have the receipts to prove it. I submitted all the documentation to take advantage of their $65 rebate if the project was purchased between 9/4 and 9/17 and postmarked before 10/17. The rebate states that it will take 8-10 weeks to receive the refund amount. I waited 3 months and then inquired where my refund was. I was told the holidays delayed the mail and I should be patient. I waited and then inquired again, to be told I did not buy the product in the designated time period. Since I had made copies of everything before I submitted it I resubmitted it via fax. Two days later I was told again that I had not purchased during the required time period. I pointed out, again, that yes I had. If this isn't fraud, I don't know what is. They set forth the rules. I abided them and I'm still being blown off.

    When I called McAfee to report that my emails were coming into my inbox then within minutes were disappearing, the tech (in India) explained that I had over 24,000 late night 'web crawlers' crawling around my computer looking for bits of information they could use to establish buying patterns or worse, looking for financial information. And the only way I could cure this problem was through a certified tech that would clean my computer. For a clean and a one year "call anytime" service for Iyogi, it would be $169.99 or two years for $299.95 and so on.

    We were amazed at the 24,000 incidents, so we took the two-year plan and gave Iyogi our credit card. That was day before yesterday. Tonight, it happened again. I called Iyogi. They cleaned and restored and then switched me to a higher level tech that tried to sell me a large external hard drive ($179) to back up our computer so we wouldn't incur anymore charges. I declined. We now feel that we area being scammed!

    I too have had similar problems with McAfee Total Protection Rebates from 2009 to 2011, "no UPC" or whatever. I learned after the first year to make copies of everything. The UPC bar codes are slightly larger than a postage stamp, so I guess they "lost" them. So, I started sending a large piece of the box containing the bar code. Unlike others, after raising enough hell and resubmitting everything, sometimes with alternate "proofs of purchase" such as the actual disk, I eventually got my rebates. Since I like the product, I am getting ready to purchase the 2012 version - with my fingers crossed!

    I purchased McAfee total protection with a $35 rebate. I provided all the requested information to find out that this company needs "proof of ownership" that "it was emailed to you". It was not emailed to me. When I asked how I can get proof of ownership, my email to this company (after many searches to obtain a contact us) informed me that I needed to consult my email! I purchased this same software for 5 business computers. I will not buy from this company again!

    I was charged $79.99 on an automatic subscription renewal (plus tax), and when I cancelled, I was offered a reduced price of $39.99 as a "valued customer". I feel like I should have been valued before I cancelled and offered that price to begin with. On principle, I'm going to look for virus software elsewhere because I think McAfee was trying to take advantage of me through the auto-renewal subscription process. I do, however, appreciate the ease with which I was able to cancel.

    When McAfee does auto update, it disables Outlook 2010 email passwords. I cannot get through to get it resolved. I have removed the product and will never deal with this company again. I will advise all realtors in Canada against this product. I had nothing but grief since installing it earlier this year.

    The only way to stop Norton from automatically renewing your subscription is to go into your account information and remove all billing info, especially the credit card info. Like many of you, I found I was paying for subscriptions I thought I cancelled last year. I got ripped off to the tune of $170.00. Disgusting. I would not put it past them to be introducing the viruses they say they protect us from.

    I also purchased the McAfee with the $40 rebate that required the UPC to be sent in. I received notification today that the UPC was not included. I made copies of everything that was placed in the envelope, including the UPC. I am sad to see that I am not the only one that has been scammed by such a well-known company.

    I have requested for cancellation of a debit note for USD 89.99 with approval number ** dated 28-11-2011 which has been sent to Citibank since I am no longer using their service over the last six months The McAfee virus scan has been uninstalled and they have been advised. Two reminders dated 29th and 30th of November have been sent to email address service@mcafee.com and there is no response or reply to my complaint.

    This is very sad for a customer. I am unnecessarily asked to pay for a service which has been discontinued. I would appreciate a quick response from the company representatives in India for the complaint I have lodged with them .

    On 11-29-2011, I purchased a McAfee Total Protection 3u 2012 from Fry’s Electronics in Manhattan Beach, Ca. The clerk at the store got the correct box for me, one that matched the model on the on line printout which I had. At home, I tried to register my rebate but neither the rebate number nor the promo number worked.

    I called numerous numbers but the agents there were not successful either. Finally, an agent at McAfee rebate center told me these numbers are not in the system! Is that believable? The product is still in the box unopened. I'm not returning it. I'm fighting to get my $70.00 rebate. Is this fraud? Is this false advertisement? Or what is it?

    We purchased McAfee Total Protection 2012 for our computers. After several attempts trying to install the software, we had many problems with it and returned it to the store for an exchange. After installing the new software, it was also a problem. After we finally had it registered, it said it was only good for approximately 1 month instead of 1 year. We called a Tech Support # from the McAfee website. After explaining our problems, the technician told us we had many viruses on our computers and to fix the problems it would cost $1200 for all three computers. After saying no several times, the price would come down each time. The final figure was $400 for all three computers. We still said no and ended the call. We were called back trying to convince us to go ahead and pay the $400. We said no and hung up the phone. We gave our computers to a friend who said there were no viruses in our computers. The only thing he had to do was defrag and he installed McAfee for us. I also want to report that the number we had called for tech support was not in California but in India.

    I have not had McAfee for years. At one time, it came free when you had Comcast but Comcast dropped McAfee and went with Norton. Last month, I noticed a credit on my visa credit card so I called McAfee. I was told that they had no record of me and to call Chase visa, which I did. Chase took it off the credit account. Today, I found another charge. This time, it was on my debit card. I called McAfee again and they said they would take it off. Is there anything that can be done about this practice?

    I got a 1-year activation CD of McAfee Antivirus Plus with my Lenovo Y460 laptop and when I installed the CD it needed ID & password for final activation. I register to McAfee but still, it's showing that if you are using this for multiple PCs then you have to remember & use the same log-in ID and password to activate.     I received an automatic renewal notification from McAfee that they renewed my anti-virus subscription to my credit card without my acknowledgement or my authorization. The price was outlandish, they charged me $89.99 plus $6.30 tax for 3-User McAfee Total Protection for 1-year subscription. Had I been given an opportunity to accept or reject this renewal, I would have rejected for this price. I am wanting a complete refund including the taxes charged to my card. If I don't get it back, I will do everything in my power to expose McAfee for this deceitful practice.

    I purchased a McAfee Subscription, on November7, 2010. The subscription is supposed to last until November 7, 2011. I was not asked nor notified of "automatic renewal" when I purchased it. On October 8, 2011, I received an e-mail from McAfee. They renewed me & took $85.56 out of my checking account via debit card.

    Because my income isn't grand, I'd budgeted & planned to renew McAfee next month, when the subscription actually expires. I hope somebody can float me a loan or the checks I wrote to pay for other bills will bounce. Isn't there a law against this?

    I complained loud enough and long enough that McAfee is supposed to give me a refund for their useless product. They sent me a "product return form" that I filled out and emailed back. Next, they sent me an email stating that I don't have proof of purchase to be able to get my refund. I explained to them that they already had my proof of purchase in the rebate I sent to them for the product initially. That was three days ago, and I still have not received a response back. Everything these people do is designed to frustrate you so that you give up. Fortunately there is a class action lawsuit against McAfee; maybe they will put them out of business, as they need to be gone.

    This past spring, I purchased a McAfee subscription. Very recently, I had a computer problem which is unrelated to that. While the computer was in the shop, I had them check it out. The technician found and removed 98 viruses, trojans, spyware, and other malware from my computer. I contacted McAfee and asked for a refund. They refused to issue a refund because it was more than the "standard" 30 days since the purchase.

    When I went to track my rebate, it stated invalid UPC and invalid USPS address. The form clearly stated that a copy of the UPC was fine, now they want the original. I didn't send the original just to be on the safe side in case that they come up with some lame excuse that they didn't receive it (then I wouldn't have a backup in case I had to resubmit) which was what I had to do last year also. I will never buy McAfee products again. This scam is how they make their profit. They made $60 from me this year and $30 last year.

    McAfee customer service and technical support is the worst nightmare ever. Customer support and tech services are all in India and they do not care if you have a problem.

    I finally found the United States corporate office phone number on the Internet and after documenting my problem, they sent me back to tech support and the whole goat rope started again. After spending hours on the phone with customer service and tech service, nothing was ever resolved. It appears that they are following a script and can't comprehend anything that doesn't fit there.

    I will NEVER buy a McAfee product again.

    About a year ago (April or May 2010), I noticed a charge of $40 plus on my bank statement--a charge by McAfee. I don't use McAfee; I have Norton. I called them, and they stated that it was an "automatic renewal of my account." I told them I didn't have an account with them. They told me I must have ordered McAfee. I told them I didn't; I have Norton free with Comcast.

    They apologized and removed the charge. I was told I would not receive another charge like this. It must have been a mistake. Then this year, on May 23, I noticed another $40 plus dollar debit by McAfee done on my debit card that they had told me they had removed from their system. This time I called them outraged.

    They told me that this time my daughter (a grown, responsible woman) had ordered McAfee on my card back on June 19, 2010. The $40 plus charge they alleged was the automatic renewal of that transaction. Obviously, I asked my daughter who lives with me in this house. She also gets free Norton with Comcast; we are on a wireless system. She did not order McAfee on my card and would have no reason to do so. I certainly didn't; I would have no reason to do so.

    So, somehow someone or someone at McAfee have my debit card number. I have a bogus order for a service on my card, and indeed, I did go back and look at my bank statements, and there is an unauthorized charge there on June 19, 2010. Then, they had the ______ to go back into my debit card and again charge me an unauthorized renewal of that.

    Again, the supervisor, one John Jabines, has assured me that the latest $40 plus charge will be removed. He assured me that my debit card information has been removed from their system. That is what I was told last year. If another unauthorized debit shows up from McAfee, I will invite anyone wishing to join me in a class action suit against McAfee. This is not business, boys and girls. This has all the tenets of out-and-out fraud and theft.

    I don't have a McAfee but have had the Norton in my laptop for 6 years. I received a notice in the mail that they needed my new card number to renew my account. Well first mistake, I thought it was just a play to get me to call and try to sell me something so I disregarded it. The second mistake was they somehow got my debit card number which was an account I had opened two years ago and took out $89.99 to renew my service with them which I didn't have! I found this out when trying to put gas in my car on the way home from a long trip.

    My card was declined due to being over drawn of the account. I called my bank and filed a claim. Then I called McAfee and I was informed that it's an auto renewal. I told them that I didn’t have their service and haven't had for over six years. I had it 10 years ago on a different computer. They informed me that I must have it that's why they did me a favor and renewed it for me! What? Again, after asking for the tenth time how did they get my card number and information, they informed me that it was on file. But how?

    There was no answer but they would gladly transfer my subscription to a family member or a friend. I demanded my money back and told them about the over draft fee. They told me that they will credit it back in 10 days. I demanded it be credited back within that day since it was not authorized and I don't have the service from them. Well, if I give her all my personal information she can refund my money in 10 days. Now, how could they access my bank account and take my money without knowing my personal information? Talking to a supervisor was even more frustrating. My bank closed my card and froze the account for my protection. It is now day 5 yet no money has been returned and my bank filed a claim against them. Their response to this is that auto renewals are automatic for convenience. So I have to take a day off from work to go and straighten out my bank account and get a new card and sign papers but this was all for my convenience.

    I purchased a McAfee "Total Protection" software. I paid the full price with the understanding that I would get the advertised $40.00 rebate. I sent all the required information, and included the store receipt. After eight months, I still have not received the rebate and McAfee claims that although they have proof that I own a license for the product, they do not have a record of the rebate. The online service does not provide any support for complaints. McAfee must make a substantial amount of sales advertising rebates that they do not intend to honor. This is a good case for a class action and an investigation for fraud.

    I purchased McAfee Total Protection with a mail in rebate of $46 on January of 2011. After inquiring multiple times, I received an email that said that my submission is valid and that the check will be mailed out by March 24th 2011. It also gave me a new tracking number and a link to address further questions. After waiting until April, I contacted that link only to find that it is a link that has nothing to do with the rebate or McAfee. The link was to their competitor, Symantec Corporation. I saved all the emails to prove my case. It is my belief that McAfee never had the intention to pay the rebate as what was promised.

    The laptop I bought from Dell had McAfee on it with auto renewal. One year later, I received an email that I'm going to be billed on my VISA for $34.98. I've called so many times that I've lost count, always with the same result: Can't find the record! I always talk to someone barely able to speak English. The only option I have to prevent this in the future, I guess, is to cancel my credit card so they can't use it anymore. I hate them!

    I'm frustrated. After being topped up, I spoke to a representative who after multiple holds, said I would get refund. Ten days later, it appeared but subsequent calls led me to reps from the Philippines who had no clue. I asked if I could speak to someone in America, "we don't have that information" they said. Eventually, I spoke to a woman supervisor in Florida because they again billed my account not for one, but for two subscriptions. Two hours being bounced around got me to this supervisor who said, "Oh, that's just a glitch in the system". She disconnected me. I called back and was offered a "free month", which because I was so exhausted, I took.

    Now a month later, I tried to get the promised "money back guarantee" within the set time frame. The reps were again from overseas and said things like "I'm not sure if I can do that" or "if I can, I will try". Again, give me the number to a rep in America. "I don't know what you mean". Aghhh. McAfee has close to 90 dollars of money. They are involved in a class action lawsuit now and seem to send work out of country. I want my money back before they go bankrupt!

    I purchased McAfee 2011 Internet Security software from McAfee (online) in November, 2010. The downloaded software was installed and activated immediately. Starting from the date of activation and continuing to the present day (two months later), there are constant McAfee generated "pop ups" offering the user the opportunity to view a video of the McAfee features. This popup cannot be stopped by any user intervention or request; the two options provided are to (a) view the video or (b) dismiss the current popup. I have contacted McAfee Tech support five (5) different times and each chat session lasts at least an hour. The tech support personnel take over the PC operation and checking the McAfee user preferences (options), they claim that the problem is solved. Within an hour after their "intervention" the video "pop up" offer is back. I have entered requests in McAfee user forums seeking a solution for the problem but to no avail. I get replies that this is a "known problem" but no fix is available. Letters to their marketing management get no replies. McAfee is a billion dollar company that seems to have little regard for their customers or they would make a realistic effort to eliminate this annoying pop up that interrupts any and all active software applications. I would sincerely appreciate any effort to get McAfee to eliminate this problem.

    Since getting McAfee as my antivirus program, I have lost 2 computers. The computer I have now has McAfee and there is definitely a problem. But McAfee doesn't detect all of it. It did detect a Trojan that I wasn't able to remove.

    I went to the website for technical help. They were going to charge me what amounts to the cost of purchasing their basic anti-virus software. Why? I've already paid them for 3 licenses, which aren't any good. I can't cancel them. They keep charging my credit card. My grand daughter's laptop has 3 Trojans in it which McAfee can't remove. And the call themselves an anti-virus company. I'm in IT **, and McAfee is the devil in charge.

    It just starts scanning on its own and takes over my computer right when I am in the middle of something. It sucks all the memory out of what I was doing and takes hours to check for updates. I cannot even close my programs. I hate this *** program. The Windows, one I have at work, lets me set the scan times. McAfee does not. My IT guys at work marvel that I still have this. They never recommend it. McAfee takes up all your memory and ruins your life.

    I have some kind of virus that sends me a "Microsoft needs to close" message about every minute. I had McAfee fully installed and up to date. When I contacted their chat support they wanted $90 to troubleshoot, fix and remove the problem. Why am I paying for virus protection that does not work. I will never buy this product again because it does nothing for me!

    My computer is nearly impossible to use with a pop-up Microsoft message every minute blocking what I need to see and demanding me to respond.

    We were charged $42.69 for an automatic renewal on McAfee antivirus software. We got notices that the software would expire, but had no idea our credit card would be charged without our consent or knowledge until we got an email after the fact. We followed their directions to obtain refund online, but instead, we were directed to call customer service.

    After 20 min. on hold, I was greeted by a service rep minimally proficient in English who asked for my credit card number. I refused, stating they already had this information and that I didn't want any more unauthorized charges. She continued to probe for personal information, when all she really needed to access my account was the transaction number.

    After the verification, I explained that I no longer wanted the McAfee services, since I was already using another software program and have already uninstalled McAfee since April 2010. Furthermore, I said we didn't authorize the automatic renewal. They explained that they were concerned I would not have virus protection when the time expired, and even suggested they were doing me a favor by renewing the service.

    In addition, they attempted to upsell me to a premium service. I refused, stating that I would not do business with a company that uses such deceptive means to retain their customer base. A refund was promised within five business days and hasn't shown up on statement yet. Also, they agreed to remove any credit card info from my account once the refund was processed.

    It seems they learned nothing after being assessed the $375,000 court settlement in New York last June over the auto renewal issue.

    I am writing to complain about the poor, and deceptive business practice of McAfee Secure. This company prides itself in protecting consumers from fraud, and anti-theft protection, however, the experience I had with this particular individual at the company, was anything but ethical and honest. Our company Beauty Encounter has been a loyal customer of McAfee Secure since 2006 (which was previously HackerSafe). On November 3, 2010, I received an email from a sales representative Rashad **, informing me that the annual renewal charge would be increased to $7,300 without any explanation. I got in touch with Rashad ** on November 8, 2010, and then he put me in touch with Eric **. I was told that Mr. ** was the senior account manager. Mr. ** explained that they increased their rates, and that I would need to either accept it, or be forced to go without service.

    I explained to Mr. **, that there was no sufficient time to tell a customer less than one week, that their rate would increase, and "coincidentally", it happens during the busiest time of the year for an online retailer. Initially, Mr. ** agreed he will reconsider the rate increase, until after Q1 of 2011 to allow us time to get through the holiday season, and renew at the $2,290.00 rate. At that time, both parties would come to an agreeable renewal term, and amount. I followed up with an email to Mr. **, and advised him that I wanted to pro-rate the current annual renewal fee from November 8-December 31. He declined the proposal, in which case, I responded and said that we would cancel the renewal on November 9, 2010. He responded with a one word reply "Done" on November 9, 2010. In his email responses, there is no indication of his title, or contact information, except for his email address.

    Subsequent follow up emails have gone unanswered. We removed the McAfee badges from the website the same day. Coincidentally, I found an email dated November 1, 2010, from another McAfee sales representative, advising us of the annual contract renewal on November 9, 2010 for $2,290.00. Clearly, this company did not honor their contract terms, and on November 9, we were charged $2,290.00. I highly recommend that any company engaging in doing business with McAfee Secure to be careful. They do not stand behind what they claim, and they do not care for their customers. Emails and phone calls have gone unanswered. This is not good business practice, especially when this deals with trust and security. Our account was confirmed canceled yet we were charged $2,290 renewal fee.

    I purchased an antivirus of theirs a department store got it home tried to put in computer would not go. Called service tech 4-5 time talked to a lot of people still nothing asked for refund by mail on 8/21/10 now it is 10/28/10 still nothing, after 8 or 10 calls I got someone who helped, others said they could not find me or a account. He said to fax it to them so they can start all over again, it will be 4 to 8 weeks of waiting again, it took me only a short time to buy. He said if I bought it from McAfee instead of department store he could give me a refund today. Never could get it to work or and McAfee support team could not tell me how or why it didn’t I will never buy anything or theirs again.

    Stores selling McAfee software offer enticing deals to capture customers. These deals often involve preloaded Visa debit cards. Customers are told they will receive a specific sum on a debit card in exchange for their purchase of the McAfee software. But when the debit card is eventually used to make a purchase, the customer discovers the amount on the card is not the same as was promised.

    What the customer does not know when purchasing the McAfee product is that a $3 fee will be deducted monthly from the debit card after a short grace period. The bank will continue to remove $3 a month from the debit card until the card is drained.

I demanded a refund and challenged the legality of this "auto-renew" feature they turned on.

    They have refunded $79.90 CAD. I have not received an indication of why there is a shortfall for a full refund.

    They charged money to my credit without consent and therefore left me without available funds for the weekend. I believe they strategically billed on a Friday so it becomes much more difficult to receive an immediate refund. They charged me USD for a product that is readily available in CAD.

    This is an increased expense to me. The service is not being sold in the USA. It is being sold in Canada. This is illegal and they are avoiding Canadian taxes. I am unemployed and on a very limited budget. This $85 credit against me caused me large grief.

    I purchased McAfee Antivirus 2010 in March 2010 and have been having problems for five months running. The antivirus program is defective and they have not informed any of their customers. Never received a card, e-mail or phone call. Computer freezes up. Taskbar is missing. There is loss in internet connectivity, continuous reboots, etc. I gave heck to Verizon and AT&T; they checked my walls, wires, outside lines, etc. Nothing wrong. A few months later, a friend sends me a complaint regarding McAfee’s antivirus program 2010 that it is defective and is detecting a microsoft.exe file as a virus by error. I called tech support and received a patch. It worked for one day, but made the problem worse.

    I thought it was my fault. I started to shake down my computer and strip it down and replace all wires, etc. Spent hundreds for a repair shop to check it out. Problem not solved. After all, I received a patch to fix it and McAfee knows what they are doing. I read on internet later the patch was defective. Consumers do not know this. I called tech support again and again each time India. They said they are not trained to solve this problem and even acted like they did not know anything about this. I finally just uninstalled the program. Worked for two days. Computer still freezes up and there are constant reboots. It is now August 27, 2010, problem is still not solved. I am not happy with McAfee's tech support or their antivirus program. I do not recommend any one to purchase for 2010.

    I have used McAfee since 2002; however, last year when my computer became infected with a virus I did the online request for service, paid my $89.95 (online) and never received any support. I wound up taking my laptop to a local technician, who removed the virus and McAfee at my request. I could never get a real person to talk to me about a refund, so I paid my credit card bill and chalked it up to being screwed by McAfee. When it was time for my automatic renewal I received an e-mail noting that the credit card the service was charged to had expired and that I would lose my service if I didn't update my account with McAfee. I went online and again told them that I did not want their service and to cancel my automatic renewal. I received a couple of e-mails telling me that my service was about to expire, then finally received one saying that my service had expired.

    Today, I received a credit card bill indicating that McAfee had charged me the $42.95 renewal fee. Apparently they waited until the credit card company sent me a new card and ran it through -- even though I have not (and will not since this has happened) activated the new card. It still has the sticker on it telling me to call and activate. I called the 866 number listed on the credit card statement. The person I spoke with (foreign and very difficult to understand) told me that my service had been auto-renewed until August 2011. I explained that I had turned off the auto-renewal and had not authorized the billing. He told me he had authorized a refund that should be credited in 5 business days. That remains to be seen. Both McAfee and Chase Card Services have committed fraudulent practices here.

    The home MacAfee virus protection & service is a scam! Please will the CEO or someone look into your product and service! I've been a subscriber for years and just recently I've change virus protection & service to Norton. Here's why, back in July 2010 my computer was infected "even" under the protection of MacAfee, so I paid $89.95 for virus removal service which was fixed after 3 hours online. I was charge twice as reflected on my credit card bill; I was assured by MacAfee technician that I will be credited and charged once and not to worry. This was not the case, today I called MacAfee customer service and they were not able to credit back or help me. So I called my credit card company and they were able to take out the double charge. Several weeks ago I was affected again by a Security Tool Spyware still under the protection of MacAfee.

    I was told by MacAfee customer service to buy the virus removal service again which I refuse because MacAfee virus protection & service fail to detect it. That's why I call it a scam. This is when I switch service to Norton and they were able clean and help me with just the cost of subscribing with Norton virus protection & service, they deleted MacAfee for me and now I am happy camper.     My old computer was replaced in January 2010 as my old computer did not work anymore (it's on this computer that I had McAfee). I have not accessed, downloaded, received a product or used McAfee since that time. My new Internet service provides a virus software, which I used on the new computer.

    On March 23rd, I received an automatic renewal on my American Express Card. I sent the fax to McAfee to notify on March 27th that I no longer had or used the product.

    In July, I contacted the support line for McAfee to follow-up on the fax. The call was to a call center in India and I spoke to Suni. He informed me that since I did not follow up within 60 days, I was not eligible to receive a refund. I explained the situation, and after being interrupted a number of times, I asked to speak to his supervisor. He initially refused but eventually transferred me to Subbu **. Subbu searched for my account and found that the renewal notice had been sent to my email account, which I hadn't used in 4 years (an account I had in Toronto 4 years ago). This account hasn't existed since that time. He again was unable to issue a refund.

    So to date, I have not received or used the product. I did not receive notification of an automatic renewal and I notified McAfee of the issue on March 27th. I've requested a refund several times, written to the company, and to date have yet to receive a response. It's only $73, but how can a company bill your credit card without your authorization?

    I subscribed to McAfee and in July 2010 one of my computers got the JNIPMO.EXE virus. This became a known Trojan which showed up in July 2010. I figured that they had not yet created a fix to remove it so I contacted McAfee to find out when they will have a download to remove it. I was advised that it will be a $90 charge for a tech to remove it. This is now the 2nd time this year that I have gotten a virus under McAfee protection. The last one I just bought a new virus software, which removed it immediately.

    This time I will try to do it manually and will no longer upgrade my office computers with McAfee. They are too interested in making money and not interested in what they are suppose to sell. I am getting rid of McAfee in mid year on 6 computers and buying new antivirus software. So the cost of having a tech come in for half day plus the cost of Kaspersky Anti virus software for all computers. At least they support what they are selling

    I canceled McAfee in 2007, they charged me in 2008. I called and canceled again. I bought a new computer to make sure McAfee had no access to my information. They charged me in 2009 (never refunded the money from 2008.) I called and canceled. They refunded my $42.00 and charged me $84.00 3 days later. I called the bank and canceled my credit card, the bank refunded my $84.00.

    3 months ago, I started getting notices from McAfee that my account was closed and they could not charge me. This month I found a $42.00 charge on an American Express account I opened 9 months ago. McAfee is a criminal organization. Stay as far away from them as possible and tell your friends.

    One month extra for a $400.00 bill?! You have to be kidding? I have already installed a new Virus/spyware program with a two year subscription which was included in the $400.00 charge. It took the technician 3 1/2 hours to remove all of the junk that McAfee let through. I scanned this computer several times with your product and it showed nothing!

    Why would I ever use McAfee again?! I will be posting both the problem and your response everywhere I can. That is an absolute insult. For all I know, my credit card information and everything else may be compromised and you won’t cover even the cost of the repair!     We use McAfee for our computer virus protection and on April 21, 2010 we received an automatic virus signature update which has caused our computer to continually shutdown and has rendered it unusable. We contacted McAfee and they sent us a recovery disc to correct the problem. We were contacted by a technician located in India and after a lengthy phone conversation due to the difficulty in understanding him, we were navigated through the disc recovery.

    At that time, it seemed to correct the problem and as a result of their inconvenience, they offered us an additional two years of free service. This was a nice gesture on their behalf but unfortunately the problem returned in less than a week. We again called McAfee at the above listed tech support number, ( which by the way is not in the U.S. but in India) and again the language barrier made it difficult to understand the technicians instructions. We tried for over and hour to correct the problem to no avail. I was instructed to take the computer service to have it repaired and they would pay for the services.

    I expressed my displeasure in having to do this as we were paying them to protect our computer against this very thing and what an inconvenience it is to us to have to disconnect the computer and deliver it to a repair shop. Not to mention, I would prefer to have this in writing. I have sent McAfee two e-mails requesting to speak with a technician in the U.S. whom we could understand and have not heard a word from them in almost two weeks. We initially received a letter from Mr. Barry ** apologizing for McAfee's mistake and extending our coverage free of charge for an additional two years. Great gesture but if you can't use your computer what good is it?

    He did not provide a number to contact him. When we received the recovery tool it came with a directory of technical support phone numbers for various countries, The above listed phone number is the one provided for the U.S but as I stated it connects you to a service tech in India. I have a small landscaping business and have been unable to provide my customers with service explanations or itemized bills as a result of this. I am using my son's laptop for this correspondence.

Finally charged to free scan and attached security system to my computer and even after removing the program, it was located in add-ons.     I subscribed to MacAfee and after a year they renewed it and recharged me on Feb.15 but did not continue my service. I have asked for a refund but they say I ran out of time to make a claim for the refund. I do not have the service on my computer and have no way of pulling the site up.     Lousy rebate service, customer service non-existent. I purchased an advertised package (3 user McAfee plus) from Fry's in Dallas, TX. It was advertised as .01 after rebates, but was $80.00 in the store. Same software at Sam's was $19.95 (no rebate), which shows the markup. But free is free right? Not hardly. I filled out the rebates(2) exactly as requested. One was supposedly accepted, the other rejected because of "no UPC". Well you can't send it to both addresses, but the paperwork was correct and proof was sent. I have received neither nor have they acknowledged my requests for follow-up. I'm out of $80.00 for so-so anti-virus, which also keeps throwing my HP printer software out, disabling my wireless printer.

    The software keeps popping up screens every 15 minutes for updates wanting to "restart", which is annoying if you're working on anything. ** me, I should have known better because this is the third year in a row they have done this to me. So it appears to be intentional. Do not count on any rebates. If you want the software, buy it in the bargain bin. As for me, never another McAfee purchase. I have no complaints with Fry's. They printed duplicates and copies of the receipts for me (no excuse for McAfee). Out $80.00 for software I could have purchased outright for $20.00 without rebates.

I cannot believe that the people in India who work for Dell did not know what was going on with the McAfee viruses. They're just a bunch of humans acting like robots.     I purchased two McAfee Antivirus for 2010- two computers. Following installation on one computer, an error message appeared indicating that no firewall was turned on. Not true. Settings indicate that Windows firewall is on. McAfee notes that Defender-Pro is the firewall program, a program that was previously removed from the computer. McAfee's resolve to the issue in spite explicit note of the problem is to spin it off to other technical support said to be available free for 30 days of the purchase period.

    Their installation of the program via download clearly verifies that the thirty day window is no longer available. The error messages continue each time the computer is turned on, "RE: the second computer, no operational problems existed prior to installation of the 2010 Antivirus program." The computer will not boot and stay on. Perhaps a repair shop can appropriately diagnose the problem.

    I purchased a McAfee Total protection Plan on 1/28/10 (online) thinking the price was $29.99; however, when the order was finalized the price was $64.99 charged to my credit card. I emailed them and was told to download the rebate form in order to receive the rebate. I completed the rebate form and submitted it with all the requested documentation to the El Paso, TX address listed above. On 4/1/10, I called 866- and spoke to "Andress" who informed me that he was unable to locate my rebate and suggested that I resubmit it.

    I sent another complaint email to McAfee and was informed by "Mariela" that they were unable to locate my rebate and that I needed to resubmit it to: Rebate Special Services, P.O. Box 028xxx, Miami, FL 33102-8516 which is what I did on 4/8/10. I called the 866- number on 4/16/10 and McAfee still states they do not have my rebate. I have never had a problem getting a rebate honored from a reputable company (which is what I thought McAfee was until now); however, I really need my rebate because I would never have paid $64.99 for something I could have purchased from Office Depot for much, much less. At this point, I am contacting my credit card company and filing a complaint, as well as filing this consumer complaint.

    Word to the ** before purchasing from any company, check to see if they have a string of complaints like McAfee. Had I just took the time from my busy schedule and seen all the complaints I read this morning (some going back years), I never would have ordered anything from McAfee. My trust in this company is forever gone and I will never do business with them in the future and will warn my friends about them. I am raising 2 children and I need my rebate of $35.00 honored just as quickly as McAfee charged my credit card when I ordered the item online on 1/28/10.

    I purchased this virus protection two years ago. Last year, they automatically renewed and I did not want it. This year, they have done it again. I now realized that when I purchased it, I am automatically renewed a year later. I live in Africa. I cannot use it on my PC. Every time I go onto email and chat on their website to report that I want it cancelled (within the 60 days allotted), I get an error message. There is no other address to contact, not even a land address. I feel so helpless and very angry that they are helping themselves to get money from the bank account without me ever giving permission.

    I bought an Acer computer that had McAfee Software on it. I didn't like the software (because it slows down my computer, and does not give me any control over what it is doing). So I let my "free" subscription expire. However, the system continues to have pop ups ever few minutes and there is no obvious way to turn it off. Most annoying is the "security scans" that start up a pop up window ask permission but the way it constantly pops up mistakes are made. I want to get this software off my system and not to be constantly bothered by pop up adds. Not making an uninstall button obvious, makes this company no better than the "software" that it claims it is protecting me from.

    My computer will run very slow when a scan is started. Also it takes time loading its unwanted software on my system each time I turn the computer on. Most important, is the fact that this company has hijacked my computer. By law they have no right to do this.

    They have awful technical support. Though McAfee advertises free support for the first 30 days, they provide no phone number or other information on how to contact them. When you do, you cannot speak with anyone directly but must leave your phone number. They do not call you back at the time promised. So if you miss the call, you have to start all over again.

    Their product has failed to install properly on two different operating systems for the past two years. It's a nightmare to install. And, my computer has crashed repeatedly, and I am unable to use it. I am now in my second week of waiting for technical support to contact me.

    McAfee automatically renewed my subscription without asking me if this was ok. They took payment before telling me about it from a bank card, which has resulted in me going over my overdraft and resulting in charges in excess of 48. When I approached them about this, they said they could give me a refund for the subscription, but not for my bank charges. I repeatedly told them it’s not my fault as I never asked for it to be auto renewed but they still wouldn't refund my charges. I said I would stay with them if they did this for me, but again they wouldn't so I asked them to cancel my subscription. 20 paid item fee, 28 unarranged overdraft fee, plus 1 interest per day for the unarranged overdraft.

    Okay, so lets follow up! McAfee did agree to refund my money! However, they gave me a receipt and took the money all in the same day. Why can't they refund in the same time! We shall see. Here is what you need to be aware of. If you buy McAfee, they are saying you automatically agree to renewal eleven months later not twelve! I read the jargon and somehow missed this in the mist of things. So if you buy it and do not want it as I did, you need to call them and cancel or you will be charged via same account the following year (11 months later). I think it is rather arrogant of them to even think you would renew when there are free ones out there that are much better!

    I bought McAfee last year (April 23) and now they have just taken moneys from my account. Sent me a receipt and took moneys the same day no time to say no or dispute just took money. I have put in a dispute with PayPal and McAfee but let's face it, times are hard. They took $85.59 from my account that was my food money. They didn't solve the issue when I purchased it, didn't respond when I complained it, didn't resolve it. Can't get anyone I can understand on the phone.

    They also set it up with PayPal as a ongoing debit. They are scamming people, period! If it was any place in anything I agreed to, I sure missed it! I read the agreement, they had to have put it in the micro print to make sure you couldn't read it. It has not even been a year yet and they are scamming me for more money! Be aware, they are ripping people off and will continue to rip you off. They have put me in an awful position. I have been unemployed for a year and they took our food money. Now I am absolutely stuck, PayPal tells me it can take up to thirty days to resolve. Yet, both were quick to take the moneys I did not owe.

    I purchased 3 licenses. I installed one license on my Windows Vista laptop. I installed one license on my Windows 7 64 bit system on my Hewlett Packard laptop. I tried to install one license on my windows 7 64 bit system on my Acer laptop. It would not install. It just kept crashing my computer with the blue screen of death each time I tried to install it. I spoke on 3 different occasions to 3 different technical reps. All said this was a known incompatibility issue with their software and Windows 7. I asked why I was able to install it successfully on one of my Windows 7 laptops and not the other. They couldn't give me an answer and they couldn't give me a solution for my problem.

    They asked me to wait one week and try again. I did so. Same results: blue screen of death crash. I contacted support again. I was asked to wait 15 days starting March 21, 2010. I did state that if they were aware that this was a known technical problem and their engineers were working on, why was there not a warning posted on the download site stating that there could be a compatibility issue with Windows 7 systems? I told them the fact that they were aware of this problem to which they had no solution was fraudulent misrepresentation by McAfee products. In other words, they took my money and didn't deliver a viable product, and what's worse, they were selling this product when they knew there was a problem with it to which they had no solution.

    I also told them how unhappy I was that their product had crashed my system numerous times. A system crash is never good for your computer and usually leaves some residual damage on the hard drive. So, not only did they take money from me fraudulently, they also compromised and did damage to my computer. They don't seem to really have any answers that are acceptable. I am very dissatisfied with them and I would have to believe that the technical engineers they employ are substandard.

    I will not deal with them again as fraud is fraud and McAfee has most definitely perpetrated one against me, a member of the general public that expects better policing of big companies that are only too willing to take our money and very unconcerned with the quality of their product and the inconvenience to the end user. Time is money and I have wasted hours on this problem that should have been devoted to business. The resultant damage won't be fully evident until some time in the future as computer crashes always do some sort of damage to the hard drive, which always rears its ugly head somewhere down the road. So McAfee has cost me money in lost job hours and will cost me money as the damage to my hard drive unfolds at a later date.

    I would never recommend McAfee to anyone. Last year, 3/29/09, I signed up with McAfee and I always keep a second security system. I didn't have a problem until Feb. 8th this year. McAfee took it upon themselves to remove $74.54 out of my checking account without warning or authorization. It could have been an over draft. This was taken out two months early.

    I called to get a refund phone #1-866-. I spent hours on the phone, these people are told what to say and they say it. They gave me a new phone # to call which was always busy. I have Life Lock, so I called them and the helped me out, (great people). I got my refund, the charge was still pending in my account. I immediately removed their software from my computer and signed up with Microsoft sec.

    I followed up and went to their website to cancel their auto renewal. There is no way to cancel. It can't be unchecked. What a surprise. Now, I'm calling these people again. I was assured that my cancellation was successful and that no further charges would be made to my account again. Well, I was lulled into a false sense of security, fool. Without any warning on Feb. 27th, they charged me again. Now, I didn't sign up for, ask for or authorize auto renewal for a product I'm not using. I told their Eastern Indian tech that at the beginning of Feb. Boy, do they want that money. If they're doing it to me, they're doing it to a lot of people.

    On Feb.27th, they charged me again. I spent hours on the phone and then days. They have a website that is useless so are their techs. On March 3rd, I checked my account and they refunded my money and on the same day, they charged me again.That is no refund. I want my money back. In conclusion, I went to my bank and cancelled my card and pressed charges at McAfee. They stole my money. I'm hoping to get it back. I wrote BBB and now you. So far, I haven't received any money. I'm disabled. This has literally made me sick. $74.54 is a lot of money and I want it back. Beware of McAfee.

    McAfee Antivirus Software and Support is useless! McAfee Antivirus came already installed on my Dell Computer so I purchased additional years for security purposes. McAfee not only did not protect my computer from viruses slipping through when I did not click on any links but always showed my computer as unprotected every time I logged on. When I called McAfee, they asked for an additional fee to remove the virus. This last time I tried McAfee again to remove the "Help Assistant" Virus and their technician located in India said my computer has no virus. Yet, I saw it myself with my own eyes! I then brought it to Staples and they indeed found the virus and removed it. Why did I pay extra for a service which does not work at all?

Run around on McAfee's website and with "chat" session with tech support. Charged for telephone help. Bully you around if you post on their community forum.     I have McAfee antivirus 2010, and for more than 3 months, I can't update it. Because of that, my pc got infected, and I paid $150 to clean it and re-install w-xp. I reported this to McAfee many times, and still, they haven't solve the problem. So I paid money for a junk antivirus, and all these months are passing, and they won't reimburse me. And if I pay for a year of protection, these months without that will not be discounted. This company is not going to reimburse my $150 neither. It was so easy to solve this--just send me a new copy of the antivirus with a new password.

    As a consequence, I spent $150 on repairs, and there are about 3 months without protection on my yearly subscription.

    My computer is supposed to be protected by McAfee in partnership with my ISP Comcast. Notwithstanding that, my computer was infected by AntiVirus Live. I called Comcast, which expressed surprise that it got past McAfee and told me how to contact McAfee. I did that. After explaining my problem, the technician calmly gave me three options: (1) pay McAfee $90 to talk to a "virus specialist" [I thought that was the whole corporation] to cleanse my computer; (2) contact my computer manufacturer for help; (3) find a local technician who could help.

    That was really two options: (1) pay us; or (2) find someone else. I expressed my shock and surprise that (1) my computer would be infected notwithstanding its being protected by McAfee and (2) that now that it was, McAfee disclaimed any responsibility and I have to pay someone to fix it. The explanation: "McAfee can only guarantee against 99% of viruses out there." I asked if he defined the other 1% as whatever gets through. He only repeated his last statement. I paid the ransom and spoke to a technician who immediately knew how to cleanse my system. So obviously this was a virus that the company was already quite familiar with. It is apparent that McAfee does not take responsibility for any virus that gets through.

    This morning (01-19-2010) I received an email from McAfee telling me that they have renewed my contract with them and have taken out the $74 from my checking account using the same information that they used last year when I did open an account. They had no business to go into my account without asking me first and since I am retired, my money is limited and I would have asked them to wait until my SS check came in. I had to borrow money from a friend of mine to cover two small checks that I wrote a few days before. McAfee took the money out. This action on their part makes them just as bad as the virus that they stop. Something must be done so that in the future they will ask first. I would have renewed but someone else wouldn't. Also, it is very hard to get in touch with anyone there.

    3 months ago, I got the McAfee Antivirus Plus 2010 and it did work okay for the first month. After that something happens on my PC and the McAfee was unable to update and every time I was opening my PC was asking me to log in and telling me my password was not correct. Finally, I had a talk with McAfee customer service person and after verifying my account, she gave me a black desktop telling me a kernel file was corrupted and was lock and then turning off.

    So I pay somebody to fix it and charge me $150 for cleaning a hard disk and reinstalling Windows XP because McAfee Antivirus did not do the job, and I was left without help even after I talk to customer service asking my money back because still now, it is not updating. So I end with another new antivirus and now I am going to go to blogs and public places to tell me story to the public and make a complaint with the Department of Professional Regulation with the State of Florida for selling me a junk antivirus.

    I purchased McAfee for my computer and have had numerous problems ever since. I've been with them for a little over a year and the problems have gone from bad to worse. Recently, I received a warning that I needed to renew my subscription and I did. But I began to have problems accessing the Internet. I proceeded to contact the customer service by email and was informed that I needed the more expensive package for "it would offer the protection I needed."

    I paid for the higher priced package and was able to get on the internet so I requested a refund for the lesser priced packaged I'd purchased less than one week before. A customer service rep contacted me by email informing me that I would receive the refund but that I would have to uninstall the package or else run into prompts of renewal for that package I no longer needed. Well, I attempted to uninstall the refunded package and got a message that all of the components were not available so I would not be able to uninstall.

    In addition, I had great difficulty going online that night as well and when Microsoft asked if I would allow them to diagnose the problem, I received the message that an LSP from McAfee was blocking my entrance to the Internet. Microsoft also asked if I wanted them to fix the problem which I tried but they were unable so it took me at least two hours before I was able to go online.

    I find this very disheartening when the very companies we rely on to assist us are the ones who are hurting us. I even suspect that these antivirus companies are also the ones who are releasing these "so called" viruses. I have been a computer owner for many years now and it has only been within the last three that I am having this kind of difficulty. If I didn't need a computer for work, I think I would consider living without one. This seriously impacts my ability to effectively do my job. I have fallen far behind on a number of important projects I am working on.

    I ordered McAfee security system online last year in November. I was unable to download it, so I called McAfee to see what the problem was. They said that they did not receive the payment and when I looked, it had not come through my bank yet so I ordered another one. When my bank statement came in, it was on there for both downloads. So I called McAfee back and told them that it had gone through my bank. They asked me to fax a letter stating exactly what happened and a copy of my bank statement, which I did. When I called them back to see if the fax had gone through, they stated that it had but they still could not find it in their records. I then asked to talk to someone else, which I did, and that person assured me that it would be taken care of.

    After a month, I still did not receive the refund so I started calling again. Everyone whom I talked to said, "Oh yeah, it's here" but for some reason they could not get it approved. They finally put me in touch with someone who told me that the whole problem was because the people that I had been talking to worked with the mail order McAfee. She was the right one to talk to for the online McAfee and she would be able to take care of it, but there might be a problem with it being over 30 days now. She said that she would explain everything and it probably would be approved because it was not my fault.

    All of this took almost 4 months. Well guess what? Of course, I was not approved because I never did receive my refund. They just keep on putting it off and hope that the person will give up. They finally won.

    I enrolled with AT&T internet service and they offered free anti-virus with service, which is McAfee. I have been trying to install McAfee on my computer since last week and keep getting the runaround. So I got online today with them (McAfee) and now they are telling me I have a program on my system that keeps rejecting the McAfee file, but this file was on my computer when I had McAfee through Comcast. I am just so sick of dealing with these stupid people. I am going to go out and buy one at Best Buy and install it myself so I don't have to deal with any more stupid people. Is there anything that can be done about these big companies who claim that their products work and come to find out they don't?

    I sent a sarcastic message to their forum at first. I tried to uninstall and remove myself from their programming to no avail (didn't find anything that would let me uninstall the program). I spent some time in McAfee's Q and A. There was an explanation of how to uninstall the McAfee Security Center "program." The explanation on how to uninstall the program, is interesting. Removal through the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel was an option that I did not try. In many cases, you can simply remove McAfee products through the Add/Remove Control Panel.

    1) Click on Start, Click on Control Panel
    2) Double-click on Add or Remove Programs
    3) Find the Network Associates or McAfee product listed and click on it.
    4) Click on Change/Remove.
    5) You'll see a screen similar to the one below. Place a check mark next to each McAfee product you wish to remove and click Remove.
    6) You'll see a warning message like this one, click on the Remove button.
    7) The removal process will start showing each program being removed, then it will ask to restart the computer. Go ahead and reboot after the removal process is finished.

    8) After rebooting McAfee should be removed from your system.

    If for some reason, the normal uninstall does not remove it, I recommend following the automatic uninstall instructions below to remove McAfee security products.

    Removing McAfee Automatically

    McAfee has created an automatic removal program to remove the following software products when the normal removal methods fail. It does not work with Windows 98 or Windows ME. The removal tool deletes all traces of the following products in Windows 2000 Pro, Windows XP Home and Professional, and Windows Vista.

    McAfee Security Center, McAfee VirusScan, McAfee Personal Firewall Plus, McAfee Privacy Service, McAfee SpamKiller, McAfee Wireless Network Security,

    McAfee SiteAdvisor, McAfee Data Backup, McAfee Network Manager, McAfee Easy Network, McAfee AntiSpyware

    Follow these directions to download the McAfee Removal Tool and run it to remove the above programs.

    Click on the link to download the MCPR removal tool.
    Click Save and save the file to your desktop.
    Close all McAfee Application windows you may have open, and double-click on MCPR.exe to start the removal tool. Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator."
    After the removal tool finishes, you should be prompted to restart your computer.
    Once the computer restarts, your McAfee product should be uninstalled.

    If for any reason there appears a red X during the uninstall, go to the following location for more advanced uninstall instructions involving the registry.

    Extra Optional Steps

    Open My Computer, double-click on Drive C
    Double-click on Program Files
    Look for any McAfee product folders that remain. Right-click on them and choose Delete

    Your computer is not fully protected.

    Please check your protection status in McAfee Security Center and fix any problems.

    Bottom line : I can't remove this program from my computer - and If I didn't know any better ... I would have started paying for its services. I feel that people are being fooled into spending their money on programs they don't need.

    I paid for a years subscription on May 28, 2009. Today I got a virus on my primary computer. I called for assistance and they said I must pay for tech support. It is only now they are telling their product doesn't stop all viruses. Today I requested a refund for the period of Nov 27, 2009 through May 28,2010 since my computer is now useless for internet access and I can no longer use their software. They are refusing. I had for a supervisor and Rosemary transfer me to Patrick. I don't believe Patrick was a supervisor, they lied to me. I asked for an address to file a complaint in writing and put me on hold hoping I assume I would hand up. Five minutes later he asked was I still there and I again asked for the address. He put me on hold again and came back in 3 more minutes. I asked Patrick for a last name or corp id number and he put me on hold a third time. I hung up and called back and got a foreigner named Satyam, he said he did not have supervisor name Patrick and again asked for my emaiil address. I gave it him and I asked for a supervisor and he put me on hold and never came back to the call.

I called for help and they said I would have to pay to have the virus removed because it is not a virus it is a trojan which according to them is something different.     Last year I purchased an antivirus software from McAfee.com online. This year, they automatically renewed it without my permission or instruction and took the cost from my credit card. I contacted them for a refund. The amount they charged originally was quoted in STG - my account is in euro. When they sent the refund, there was a shortfall. They told me this was due to exchange rates. I recontacted them for a full refund and they are laying the blame on the credit card company and claiming they can't be responsible for exchange rate fluctuations. In my opinion, nobody is responsible for exchange rate fluctuations. The fact remains that if they hadn't taken the money without permission or instruction, the shortfall would never have risen.

    Refund my money immediately and never automatically bill my credit account again without my written permission. Your lousy software did not prevent my windows PC from being corrupted - last November via a virus and I lost hundreds of personal data and sentimental pictures of my deceased Mother!     I purchased my Dell online at Dell.com. It came installed with McAfee virus protector for two years. I still have time left on my protection. My story is much like the other stories on this website. I have continued annoying pop ups that said my computer is not protected. This takes my time in trying to correct the problem. I followed the directions and it has corrected itself several times. This time, however, after 3 to 4 attempts, it is telling me once again that I am not protected. Nothing I can do will make it tell me that I am protected. I continued to be pestered by the problem and feel very annoyed, frustrated and angry that I am not getting a full two years of protection.

    My son has the same problem with his computer and thinks that McAfee does this to make us update it to their other programs. I feel cheated; however, when I take more time to call McAfee, perhaps they will fix it. However, I do not have the time to do this. In the meantime, I can only pray that my computer will not be attacked by a virus. If it is attacked, I will pray that the Lord return the sender of the virus to his or her computer and teach them what it is to have their computer crash. Perhaps, they will learn the fear of the Lord as my computer is protected by His mercy and He will take care of the people that want to harm me or my family.

    I ordered McAfee virus protection two years ago. I was going over my bank statements and noticed where McAfee withdrew $127.00 from my account. I did not ask for a renewal and called to ask why they would just take money from my account without notification or at least ask if I would like to renew. First of all, you can't talk to anyone in America. We kept asking to speak to someone in the U.S.A. and got nowhere. All we were told was when we accepted the terms two years ago, that the small print said, "Your protection will automatically renew if you don't call to cancel." It's ironic that we buy protection from the same company that goes around bleeding their own customers. We were told that they would return the money. We are still waiting to see the outcome.

    I have purchased a new Dell laptop from Delhi, India on 27th July 2009, in which I have gotten 15 months of McAfee Antivirus subscription activated. After some days, my McAfee antivirus started showing that my PC is not protected. I uninstalled the McAfee antivirus & again reinstalled it.     I purchased a copy of McAfee Internet Security 2009 with the promise of the $30 mail-in rebate. I sent in the rebate well within the promotional period and I never received the rebate. I called Pargo, which is the company that is contracted to handle these rebates and they said there was nothing they could do as it is now outside of the offer period. I called McAfee to speak to customer support and they gave me the number for the Pargo customer support. It is impossible to get someone actually from McAfee to address any rebate problems. It appears that they want to make it such a hassle that people will give up.

    I purchased the McAfee virus protection 2009 on 6/18/09, submitted the required documents for the $40 rebate and was told that my claim was invalid as there was no proof on installation.     I subscribed to McAfee antivirus / spam software about 6 months ago. Last week, my computer started freezing up and blocking access to the internet and other programs, even McAfee itself. Obviously, the software from McAfee did not protect my computer. Websites we access are widely used and not risky sites (ex. facebook, etc.), no outside programs were downloaded or unknown emails opened or accessed.

    Upon contacting McAfee, I was informed that I needed to purchase a 5-day service contract for $89.95 to rid my computer of a virus that McAfee should have prevented from entering my computer in the first place! This is beyond preposterous and I'm very dissatisfied with this service. If it happens again before my contract expires, I will switch likely to Norton and certainly will switch after contract expiration. I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office as well. Consequences are the lack of use of my laptop computer for 10 days and an additional $89.95 fee to rid computer of several viruses that McAfee did not prevent from entering computer.

    McAfee is flagging a company and is refusing to get back to them that I use for my business. Imagekind.com They are claiming it is one of their affiliates which is also a reputable company. Since the site is flagged, they keep denying their request to talk to them saying they are an unauthorized site. This is insanity. It is costing thousands of vendors money in sales and also we have to remove links to this site that contribute to our income. It's been going on over a month now. McAfee originally told them it was a error and would fix it, now refuse to talk to them.

    McAfee has been withdrawing money from my checking account without my permission since 2004. I originally bought an anti-virus software program online from them. Hidden in the agreement I now found out is an automatic renewal. I haven't had the email address, home address, etc. since 2004. I live in a different state. I saw the TX on my bank statement. I called their ph number and they said they wouldn't credit back anything past 60 days.

    I received an email from customer relations, Eric, executive services team. He reinforced that they can bill you anytime unless you call them before the renewal date. How can you call them when you don't even know the date or receive an email? The email they had was disabled in 2004! This is the biggest rip off/scam I have ever experienced!

    I was receiving free McAfee service from AOL when they notified me that I must renew by 6-15-09 to receive a discount. I emailed and called McAfee to renew. I gave my credit card, Discovery Card, and I was advised it would cost $29.99 per year. I attempted to renew McAfee, but had technical problems trying to renew. I spoke with six (6) technical people in India where they outsource and spent 8 hours one day and six days the next, and still could not install their program. I tried to speak to someone in the United States. I got an operator in California who immediately sent me back to India.

    When you go to their site on your computer, you get messages to get rid of the old McAfee programs and to install a new one. Please you try it. Hours of being on a merry go round. They tell you that you are renewed, take credit card number, and the merry go round starts again; delete the old McAfee programs and install new one. Then after a long time of renewing, they tell you that you cannot renew on the last Windows program on AOL. Get rid of old McAfee program and turn off computer and ad infinitum, ad nauseam. India asked $9.00 for tech services to fix program. AOL says renew AOL, but pay each month for AOL.

    My McAfee service was always on so I don't know what caused this problem. Several weeks ago, I got an alert saying I wasn't protected. So I tried going to the McAfee site but couldn't get there. I tried numerous ways. Finally, I connected using another computer and with a online chat (twice) got help with my problem. Nothing has worked. I've used stinger, etc, to try to identify a virus and get back to the McAfee site. I reloaded the driver, etc, done everything they told me. Finally, I gave up and downloaded a trial Norton subscription, which I'm now going to have to pay for because I must be protected. So the money I've spent for McAfee Security Suite is wasted! Why can't they figure this problem out? Obviously, it's impacted many people.

    At least three years ago, I purchased a McAfee Virus Scan protection, before I realized that I get it free as part of my Comcast cable internet service. I sent a customer service email and never got a reply. The next year I was told that by having accepted their contract, they had the right to annually charge my credit card. I got rid of my computer, got a new one, took McAfee via Comcast, and then was surprised to find that McAfee simply continued to charge my credit card. They have no telephone number in any of their messages. They do not respond to their customer service requests. What can I do to stop this automatic annual charge? With the new credit card law, there should be some recourse. I want to stop paying them, and they will not let me.

    I bought the Mc Afee which did not work properly since the firest day I installed it.
    When I do a full scan it shuts down after 30 to 40%. I thought this was normal but after 30 days it showed I was not protected anymore and needed a full scan. I did a full scan but it shut down my computer. I tried to write to tec support at Mc Afee but could not get threw as my computer shut down every time I tried to send message. I uninstalled the Mc afee and reinstaled it which put my on protected. I tried to scan a full scan but it shut off my computer again. I phoned tex support who told me it I wanted problem fixed it would cost me. I told them it never worked from day one. They said OH it is not our problem it is your computer and to fix it would cost $ 9.95 per min. I told them to go you know where and guys if you are reading this DO NOT BUY THIS SCAM piece of you know what as all they want is to charge you for work on something a piece of junk they just sold you. I had Norton for over 20 years and got good service and had not problems and was never asked to pay for something that never worked from day one.

    I sent in my rebate months ago and they charged my credit card. They say they have nothing on file pertaining to my creditcard number..how odd? they can't trace me or my credit card but they can sure as hell take my money.

    Several months ago I purchased McAfee VirusScan Plus 2009. The product was advertised as having two rebates at Office Depot. I submitted both rebates with all the documentation including the original UPC code from the box and the proof of a prior purchase of a McAfee product for the upgrade rebate. I received email stating McAfee had received my rebate paperwork and that I should be receiving my checks in a few weeks. Months have gone by and a check on their rebate site show both rebates as invalid, one for no UPC code and the second for no proof of prior purchase of product for the upgrade. In the response box for the invaladation mail I offered to send a photo copy of the paperwork I had mailed to McAfee but have no response.
    Why isn't McAfee being challenged in the courts for this deception and fraud? Respectfully,

    I found an unauthorized charge of $39.99 on my credit card bill. This is the second time McAfee has done this. My first complaint they said the auto-renewal would be canceled and they gave a refund. This second time, the lady assured me of the same thing. She said I was notified of the charge via email, but the email address they have listed has not been in service for over two years. I was given a reference number, but I also recorded our conversation on a digital voice recorder. I don't have to let the other party know about the recording because McAfee notifies that they may record for quality purposes before your call goes through.

    This is a great record keeper and is evidence that I informed McAfee they do not have my authorization to bill my account. If (when) it happens again, then I'll go to my local district attorney's office and ask for a consumer affairs criminal filing. For those that are tired of these companies putting it to us, record everything! If you want to have some fun after you get the good stuff recorded, let them know you are recording. The responses are pretty funny.

    Updates to my McAfee virus protector software had been failing to load for a week or so. I removed the software and was going to reinstall it, when I realized that I could not access any Web site associated with McAfee. I thought this was the sure sign of a virus.
    I called a number for McAfee customer service (while on hold, a recording constantly repeats that you should visit their Web site for technical issues -- but I couldn't, that's why I had to call!)and explained to the rep why I thought I had a virus. He told me that I did not have a virus and needed to call the number that would charge $9.95 to get help. After being on the line for an hour with that rep, guess what, he told me I had a virus. Duh! He then told me I'd have to pay $89.95 and call yet another number to get it fixed. Is it not ironic that you have to pay the company whose software was suppose to protect you from getting a virus to remove a virus?

    Somehow, my McAfee has blocked my ADSL connection with Telus.net (BC Canada). My complaint is that I cannot locate or contact McAfee. Their support # is in India. That firm wants me to pay $ 139.95 to "sign-up." All I wanted was McAfee to unload and reload their service that I have paid for to Sept. 2009! Then my computer should reattach to the online! McAfee does not seem to offer private (home) direct support. It is very frustrating and not really ethical.

    I have submitted communications via the website's customer service page on this instance. I cancelled my McAfee auto-protection just March 14, 2009 (via phone 866-662-3900 with cancellation confirmation no. and confirmation of refund no.) and received a refund and now, April 10, 2009, I have been notified through email that you have charged my account again to pay for McAfee, which I do not have installed and which is a service I do not need on my Macintosh. I told them that I will charge them with criminal charges if this does continue! I called 866-662-3911 to speak with customer support and was told the number had changed and was given a new number that would cost me $9.99 to make. This is criminal and that is why I am reporting McAfee to Consumer Affairs now. During the phone cancellation and refund request, I was assured that cancellation was successful and that no further charges would be made to my account.

    I am very pleased with the McAfee's product I have installed (far superior to Norton) so when I got an offer to RENEW in an email for the whole Internet Security package at a good price I thought it a good idea and made the purchase.
    I currently have McAfee Virus Scan installed from a purchase in July 08 due to expire July 09. So naturally I thought that the new expiration date on my RENEWAL would be July 2010. But noooo it was 3/31/2010 the month I made the purchase. I did contact customer support and they did offer to extend it out to the July date - after offering to extend it 60 days, however in the meantime I realized I was also signing up for a subscription which was not even mentioned in the email.

After successfully going through the verification process, I now Have no firewall no virus protection, no spyware protection, or any other form of defence in spite of paying my subscription monthly by direct debit.     I have just reviewed details on my credit card statement and saw a charge for McAfee Antivirus. I have not been using their product for years, with the exception of a free trial included with the purchase of a new laptop a few years ago. When I called them they refered to an email account from an ISP that I have not had an account with for years. I determined from McAfees customer service that I supposedly purchased a subscription in 2007, was charged again in 2008 and now in 2009. I asked them when they initially opened the account under my old ISP email address but they would not disclose this information. As they obviously have my credit card information, I must have purchased something at some time. I am now trying to discover for how many years this has been going on. Shame on me for not checking my credit card statements more closely but this is just incredible to me! Any communication to this old address should have bounced back as nonexisting..years ago! They refuse to reimburse me for 2007 and 2008 but will reimburse me for 2009. BEWARE...they are a disreputable firm..unethical and intentionally deceptive. Why should anyone assume they would protect anyone from anything. We need protection from them!!

    Somehow while already having McAfee installed on my computer, I still got a virus. After wasting 25 minutes going over the details of my account, Nishnath (or whatever her name is) provided me with a link to virus removal support. I followed that link, selected the platinum virus removal and waited another five minutes. Anil came on. The very first thing I entered in the chat was I need to remove a virus. Anil did not say anything at that time about not being able to help me. After wasting another twenty minutes with Anil, he FINALLY informs me that he is with technical support not virus removal. What the **. My time is valuable too! I have approximately three hours a day to study for my classes and they have now effectively wasted one third of this.

    Needless to say, I was ** off! I asked him if I was being charged for his chat. He informed me that I was. So now I have paid $80 to remove a virus and wasted one third of my time for absolutely no help. If the software worked to begin with I wouldn't have a virus! I repeatedly asked Anil to get a manager on the chat line. He would not get a manager. He said I would receive a refund. I said I would not wait for a refund for something that was their fault to begin with on many levels - that I even got a virus, that Nishnath paddy wach gave me the wrong link, that Anil did not just tell me that he could not help me in the first place, that I am now out $80 and STILL have a virus.

    After attempting for another 15 minutes to access the customer service link on their website I then had to search the internet to find a phone number as nothing happened when I tried the link repeatedly. Now I have been on hold for an additional 30 minutes waiting for yet another non English speaking numb ** to answer the phone. I had to insist twice to speak to a supervisor. Still waiting on hold! I am dumbfounded.

    Two years ago in January, I purchased McAfee Security Suite online but was unsuccessful in downloading the software and never installed it. After several unsuccessful attempts to find a customer service number for assistance or to get a refund, I just took my loss and moved on. This past January, I found a charge on my credit card from McAfee in the amount of 43.23. I looked on my last January statment and realized that I had been charged 43.23 last year as well. I called the customer service department and was told that I had agreed to the renewal fee when I clicked on the end user agreeement, but that they would cancel my account and refund 43.23 to my credit card. Five days later my credit card was credited for the amount. As I stated earlier, I was never able to download the software therefore, never even clicked on the end user agreement. Additionally, I just realized that after crediting my account they turned around and recharged by credit card later that same day. I have requested a refund and hopefully this is done but I think that this type of billing practice is fradulant at best and should not be allowed to continue. I have to wounder how many people are unknowingly paying this renewal fee every year.

    I had McAfee Antivurus isntalled on my computer. I recieved a pop-up notice from McAfee stating that my credit card had expired and telling me I had to download an update for the anti-virus program. I provided a credit card update and downloaded the anitivirus update. Since that download I have not been able to access many internet sites. Amon others, I can not access the McAfee internet hepp/chat room/email page Furthermore, any mention of McAfee has been removed from the computer. I can not find McAfee Security Center to uninstall the program. I have called McAfee telephone help at least half a dozen times. Their records showed that my antivirus program was good for another 7 months. Further, their records did no show any record of a recent download. Therefore, I am not sure what I downloaded under the name of McAfee. Each person I talked to had another suggestion, none of which has helped. They seem clarly unable to deal with any ptoblem that is out of the ordinary. They would not give me an email address where I could write someone without going through the McAfee e-mail page (that I can not access). They also would not give me a snail mail address where I could write a complaint. I will never use McAfee again

    I wish I had read this site before buying McAfee Total Protection.
    1) My computer crashed when I tried to install it. 2) When I tried to uninstall it - following the instructions on their site - I couldn't. 3) When I live chatted with a technician she told me not to worry, the product was uninstalled even though I had not completed the instructions on their site!?! 4) Since reinstalling the product, my computer is SLOOOOOOOW and sometimes won't start; the daily update takes 20 minutes and paralyzes me from using my computer. 5) I can no longer access certain sites or upload photos to photobucket -things I had NO problems doing without McAfee. 6) The virus scan does not work 95% of the time. I get errors messages (two in a row for some reason) telling me that an error has been encountered and the scan must close. 7) As of yesterday, I can't access ANY McAfee site from my computer - not even the one printed on the package the CD came in. (Strangely, I have no issues accessing the site from work which is how I got their toll free number) 8) What are their hours of operation? After repeated phone calls to the 866 number on their site, I can't get through. 9) Thankfully, I'm within the 30-day free phone help because at $9.95 a minute I might rack up one heck of a bill giving them a piece of my mind. Provided they EVER answer the phone. The WORST $80 I have EVER spent.

    McAfee is a NYSE listed company with over 4,000 employees. So much is wrong with this company, they should be class action sued just like Microsoft was.     I purchased a dell in 2004 with a free trial of McAfee. when it was up i purchased a 6 month sub. I then cancelled it. 5 years later in feb 2009 i was hit with a 39.99 fee to my card. I had to dispute the charge and get a new card. I have no way of knowing how many times the have charged me and I have not noticed. Hell it been 5 years! I cant get a reply from McAfee. I'll get my money back one way or the other. They have stolen from the wrong guy!

    I received McAfee Antivirus with a Dell Computer purchase in November 2004. Evidentially, 90 days later I purchased a one-year subscription. By 2005 I discontinued the product as it drastically slowed processing speed down, and was not effective. I never knowingly requested the auto-renewal feature. In auditing credit card statements in preparation for taxes this year (2009) I discovered McAfee (without my consent) charged my credit card $43.29 in February 2006, 2007, 2008, and was only days away from charging it for 2009. I called them to inquire about their fraudulent use of my credit card, and they indicated that they could indefinitely charge the card, year after year, because when I downloaded McAfee Antivirus, it allegedly had an auto-renew feature. I would guess there are millions who have not caught this on their credit card statement, as it appears once a year, and McAfee is literally bilking millions of dollars from unwitting clients who Do not have, and Dont use their product, Nor are they aware of this scam being perpetrated by McAfee. These folks need to be arrested for fraud. Additionally, a class action lawsuit would be a great start.

    I had a subscription to Virusscan since a few years. Near the end of the yearly subscription period, I was invited to upgrade to Internet Security (cost of 49 GBP instead of 39 GBP for Virusscan). I accepted the offer and paid through VISA. A few days later (at the normal renewal date) Mc Afee continued to charge the 39 GBP for the original (now supposedly up-graded) subscription.

    I installed McAfee anti-virus a year or so ago and then uninstalled it about 6 months later because it was making my pc do weird things. And now I discover an unauthorized charge of $76.46 for an automatic renewal by McAfee while checking my credit card transactions online.I immediately called customer service, it took about 20 minutes for a human to finally answer. The rep was nice about it after I explained my situation and said a refund would be issued within 5 business days. By Friday Feb. 6, 2009, I better have it back in my account or I WILL be calling these folks again!

    I am in my 2nd year of a 3 year Mcafee antivirus protection contract. My PC got a virus. I contacted Mcafee and they said I had to pay to remove it. I paid $80 to remove it. Thy remotely worked on my PC to remove it. It appears to have been removed but now the PC cannot access the internet (It could when it had the virus). I called Mcafee customer serice and they told me that I would have to pay anther $80 to fix or or I could call a 900 number (at $9.95/min)to talk to a technician! I refused to pay twice and am disputing the $80 charge on my credit card. I had to take it to a PC repair shop to have it fixed.

    My media center PC (with wireless lan card installed) became completely infected with multiple viruses and malware while (supposedly) under the protection of McAfee Total Protection with SiteAdvisorTM Plus. The first time it happened, this AV program was akin to a piece of cardboard trying to hold back fire. It was completely overwhelmed. The firewall even shut down. My hard drive crashed, so I used the recovery disc set to reinstall. After reinstall, within 2 hours, the same thing happened again. The AV ware was completely ineffective. I then did a clean wipe with DBAN (autonuke);reinstalled again and downloaded the McAfee. It worked two hours and once again shut down. I did a program removal then attempted to reinstall the McAfee software but was unsuccessful. To note, this was with IE 7, not 8. McAfee does not work with Internet Explorer 8.
    I got on the chat line with McAfee Customer Support and requested a refund or a new and improved product. I communicated with 3 people. I was just stonewalled and the third supervisor refused to provide me with the name of anyone above him . I purchased this in July 2008 (only six months ago).

Although I was on the McAfee website when I had a problem, when I clicked chat and was connected with McAfee chat, McAfee said they WOULD not help since I was not registered.     McAfee does not work. I spend most of the time fixing problems that I can't verify exist or it says Not Protected My subscription is up on 2/17/09 and McAfee charged my credit card on 11/19/09 for a renewal fee of $69.99. I was livid to find this out and I called the 866 number and was given a refund right away and told they would disable the automatic renewal feature on my account. I had no idea I was set up that way and I never agree to such things. I only agreed to a 1 year subscription and I think it is criminal for them to charge my account and hold my money for a month prior to my subscription ending. The lady who helped me on the phone asked me if I would like to renew at half price due to the inconvenience and I told her that I would call them on 2/13/09 if I wanted to renew. She placed me on hold and came back and said my credit card was declined. I scolded her for running my credit card and reminded her that I did not give her permission to run my card and I said I would call them. She apologized and gave me a reference number that I could use to get the discount when I do call. This whole company is fraudulent. There is no way to reach them via their software on your computer (no links, or phone number). I was only able to contact them after I researched an old e-mail from them and noticed the number at the bottom. Now to make matters worse, I have a virus that has been slowing my computer and McAfee never detected it.

    Barely a couple months ago I purchased Mcafee Internet Security 2009 and have been having problems with the Virus Scan ever since. So I just attempted to uninstall only a part of of system in order to save some space on my computer, but for some reason it began to delete all of the program. I tried to stop it, but ended up removing the whole program and then tried to reinstall it. Even though I had all original info and the CD, the program would not reinstall. I tried to go to McAfee's web site. It tried to charge for any other info and there was no way to find out any contact information to be able to ask any questions even. Very bad customer service. I will not purchase such a product or go to this company products again.

    I own a Dell computer with the McAfee Security Center service which expires July 25, 2009. McAfee sent me e-mail offering to renew my service at a slight discount if I took advanage of their offer right away. I renewed only to find this was NOT a renewal after all, but a new subscription which began that very day. I would lose from that day to July 25th which would cost me more than paying when I expire. This is not only deceptive but dishonest. I did cancel the renewal myself but they are misleading their customers and this needs to stop.

    I purchased McAfee Viruscan Plus 3-user for $30.00 rebate from Fry's Electronics online. Submitted all required documentation with valid date receipt. Checking status online from email that they received my submission, it said Denied due to wrong date on receipt . The receipt said 12/12/208 and the rebate offer was valid with purchase until 12/31/2008. I urge everyone to contact your state attorney general to open an investigation and pursue a class action lawsuit against McAfee and all others who pull this SCAM.     McAfee Total Protection 2009 was offered via e-mail for $79.95 with a $30 rebate if ordered in September. I ordered on September 30, and received a confirmation of my order, submitted my request on the internet form provided, and received an acknowledgment from McAfee Direct Division@cs.rebatestatus.com that my submission for rebate had been received and telling me that I could access the status of my submission during processing at **.

    My first inquiry told me that my submission would be considered around Nov. 22. When that date came and went, I tried again. Then I was told that a new search had been initiated and I had to re-submit all the information. This is bogus, of course, since all the transactions had been by internet and e-mail, and they had all the information they needed. However, I did re-submit and wait again. The next time I tried to send an inquiry, when I entered the $30 figure, a statement in red appeared, invalid amount, and the transmission would not go. I have not received my rebate. I am out $30 that I expected to receive. I will not buy McAfee products again, nor deal with Winferno.

    Yesterday I called McAfee about my computer having a flashing message telling me that my computer was infected with a Trojan virus and Malware. The agent told me that McAfee can do nothing once a virus is already in your computer. I was livid! Isn't this what McAfee's whole purpose is, to protect computers from viruses and any other kind of attack that might attempt to gain entry? We went back and forth like this for a number of minutes then he said for a fee he could get rid of my virus. He said it'd cost me $89.95. I was angrier now than earlier in our conversation. Why do I, I asked, have your company representing my computer for 3 years if all you are going to do is cop out whenever someone needing help from you calls? I just think everybody shopping around for computer security devices ought to think very hard about hiring McAfee as their computer's protection system. They will most assuredly take this, the easy way out with you too, I fear. If I had it to do over, I really don't think I would have gone with McAfee for my system's protection. Just so you know what you have awaiting you were you to let your compouter become infected with one or more viruses. McAfee admittedly cannot do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to help remove a virus from a computer that has become infected. That's just fact! Think hard and fast before you sign on with these guys. There is also the joy of the language barrier. I had to have Haji repeat about every two out of seven sentences he spoke to me.     During a McAfee scan it detected a trojan called JS Fake Alert and quarantined it on my computer. However, when I go into the quarantined files it is not there. I followed the path on my computer and can't find it. I called McAfee support and they want $60 to fix it which I think is outragoues. After all, it did detect it and is responsible for protecting my computer and it is not doing what it promised. I am now infected with a trojan that McAfee detected but refuses to remove unless I pay them $60. Meanwhile, my computer is infected and having problems. I constantly get this little red x at the bottom of my screen that states my computer and files and email are not protected. If I am paying for a service to protect my computer, I expect it to do just that, and it is not doing so.

    I have recently renewed my subscription with McAfee. Now everytime I start my computer it takes a good 30 minutes or more before I can use it. McAfee icon always says "computer is not protected" I have to open up McAfee and click on "fix it now" I usually have to "fix it now" three times before my computer is protected and ready to use. This takes 30 minutes or more every morning. I did an online chat with someone from McAfee to try and fix the problem. This took about 45 minutes and the end result was the tech. told me my computer was protected now. Duh, I wouldnt of signed online if it wasnt. No help at all and I want my computer to run smoothly again. This is ridicilous.

    We purchased McAfee Internet Security Suite from McAfee/Winferno Software as a download and received a form for a $20 rebate which we processed and received notice tht the rebates was processed adn that the check had been maild. When the check arrive we deposited it, only to now have gotten a notice fromour bank that the rebate check has had a Stop Payment applied to it and the back has withdrawn the $20 rebate plus an $8 service fee. The contact phone number on the rebate confirmation is an answering system that won't take input, and the Winferno customer service number requires sales information that we had deleted by accident. Can't get a hold of a real person anywhere to talk to and McAfee customer service has not returned an email inquiry.

    On or around the 11/28/07, I purchased and registered McAfee's Total Protection - 3 user software which comes with a 1-year subscription to their services which expired on 11/29/08
    In September 2008, www.buy.com was running a promotion for the same software and I purchased another copy with the understanding that I could use it to extend my current subscription. On 09/27/08, I tried to install the new product. Unfortunately McAfee's systems do not register that I was trying to extending my license and thinks that I am just reinstalling the old copy. I contacted McAfee to try rectify the problem and after 3-4 hours of no success I was told to wait till my current subscription expired before installing the new copy.     I prescribed to McAfee at their special price of $49.95 for a 12 month period on November 14, 2008. Then, finding that their software takes more than three hours to download and in checking my AOL membership, I realized that my computer was already protected, I requested a refund about three times without receiving even a reply. Their website states that their refund policy is that you can receive a refund within 30 days of the purchase if you haven't downloaded their product. I cannot get a response from them.

    I purchased their anti-virus software and in less than a week it wasn't protecting my computer. There is supposed to be free tech help within 30 days of purchase but when I contacted them, 1) I tried chatting first and waited half an hour for someone who ended up giving me a web site to go to to download software which took 30 mins to download and then did not work. 2)I had already searched the web site for a solution, and downloaded a virtual technician which told me that nothing was wrong with my virus protector. 3)Then I called and got India again, after waiting at least 30 minutes was on the phone with someone who couldn't help and he referred me to a phone number (866-611-2148) which then told me 4)I had to PAY to get a question answered!! There is no help available in America, and no complaint email address or phone number. I cannot afford to throw away $40 and as far as I'm concerned, McAffee is fraudulent in their advertising and warantees. I will never use them again.
