My father passed away about a year ago and that left mom on her own. Over the 4th of July holiday, my mother's landline phone went out and so she was without a phone for about three days. So we decided that that's way too long for her to be without a phone. She couldn't even call the phone company obviously for her phone is dead for obvious reasons. So we got the Jitterbug phone so she'd have a cell phone.
My mother is not extremely elderly but if she goes shopping on her own and the car breaks down or gets a flat tire, she can't change it herself. If she's going to the mailbox and she falls, she has a way to contact people so she's not laying out there all day and night. Now she has a way that she can flip open the phone, hit the emergency button and talk to somebody. I live out of state and I call her every day. But if she happens to go out after I called her in the morning, it could be the next morning before I could call her.
I was very happy with the customer service when I went and got the phone. They were extremely knowledgeable about the process and they're older people themselves when I called to get the phone. So they're used to being able to speak to people that may not be as technologically savvy as people in our age group. The person I dealt with explained everything very well. The process of ordering and setting it up was very simple, and the phone got shipped very quickly. It's been a very good experience.

I bought my dad a Jitterbug phone because I wanted him to have something when they go somewhere. He's 84 and if he needs me, he can call me. Once, he accidentally pushed something and I called back to see if he was okay because they have a tracking system. They have GPS on the phone. I talked to someone in the Jitterbug team and told her that I pushed the wrong button.

I first heard about Jitterbug from a friend. We had a different cellphone from another provider but I didn't bring it with me. That other phone and this Jitterbug phone are both good but it's nice to have the Jitterbug with me when I'm in the car. I really like Jitterbug and their team has been very nice as well. I would recommend them to a friend.

Puerto Rico is part of USA... Why we got to pay calls made to the island as international call? None of the existing carrier charge 20 cents per minute to call from continental USA to Puerto Rico or vice-versa. I don't have any complaint against The Jitterbug...it's a great phone. I purchased the Jitterbug for my brother, who is a disabled Vietnam veteran because is a simple to use phone. We have family in Puerto Rico and he wants to communicate with them. I called customer service and they said calls made to Puerto Rico are charge as international calls...20 cents per minute. I think this is unfair to the millions of Puerto Rican actually living in the continental USA.

Mr. Miranda, We understand your concerns. Since Puerto Rico is a United States territory and not a state, calls routed to this location can be considered as international usage. Should this change in the future, we will notify our customers. -Abel, GreatCall Operations

Away from the house, Jitterbug is fine but when I’m at home I don’t have a real good experience with it. I’m an elderly widow and I don’t get out a whole lot so when I ordered it, the young man checked to see how the reception was in my particular area and it was sort of iffy, but not totally. I have found that sometimes getting a signal is a bit of a problem so it’s just weird. But other than that, I love it and I do receive pictures from my children who live away from Vermont. I have it with me all the time when I’m away from my home. I’d recommend it also because I’ve had two friends that have really shown interest when they saw mine.
Unfortunately, I was at a movie theater on Tuesday afternoon and I lost my phone and cannot locate it. I had to suspend my service so I just got off the phone about an hour agoand the rep looked the phone up for me. There’s been no service on the phone since and no one has been using it. That was my biggest concern. They’ve looked and checked at the theater's Lost and Found but there’s been no luck yet. I want to order another phone but I want to wait until a couple more days to see if someone has found it or see if it turns up somewhere.

We were happy with Jitterbug. We got two of them and the first one we got was black, and it was in my husband's name; the second one was white, and it was in my name. We mainly had it for emergencies. We don't have them anymore. My husband started travelling a lot and it's costing too much, so we decided to leave them.
I liked it. It's convenient and simple. I hadn't had much to do with it except to call to add numbers. We're in our 70s and we've had this since our 50s; One of our friend's mother was in a nursing home and wasn't able to answer the phone, so we gave her my husband's phone. All she has to do was open it and she can manage and all her children could check on her. With arthritis, she couldn't dial so she used that and all she had to do was flip it open.

I got Jitterbug because it was so simple to use and compared to some others like TracFone, it's much easier to pick up and answer if somebody was calling. I've only spoken to one or two people from the Jitterbug team when I got it but everything was fine and they're very polite and nice. So my experience with Jitterbug is so far good and I haven't had any problems with them.

I wasn't really crazy about the phone I had and it has small numbers to dial. As Jitterbug advertise, when you're old, you need bigger numbers and their price was what I wanted. The guy that sold me on it was very pleasant, however, I noticed two things with their phone. I wish it had a speaker on it and I wish there was a way they could have the date. They have time but not the date. Other than that, I absolutely love it.

We've been Jitterbug's customers six years ago and we have a son that thought he could get us on his phone plan. So we went with them after that period of time. It was the last three years and we felt that we really did enjoy Jitterbug better so we went back to an updated new phone and we became customers in the last two months. For retired couples like us, it was a little harder for my husband to get his fingers on the numbers in the pad. It had a little flip-out and his hands are so large whereas this one with Jitterbug is the biggest and more user-friendly.

My husband has macular degeneration in one eye, which makes it very difficult for him to use an AT&T phone. They have so much junk on it that they don't use, and it makes it hard for him to see sometimes. Anything that is worked on today or that comes out new is geared towards the younger generation, and the older generation is getting pushed aside. So when I investigated, I went everywhere and came up with Jitterbug, which was also recommended by AARP. My husband loves it as it is so easy to use and that it is in big letters. The phonebook always comes up for him so he doesn't have to go searching. I also like that, later on, we could get the Splash if he would need it. That way, if he would need me, he can get a hold of me and I would know where he's at. I have already recommended Jitterbug to seven different people.

I'm on the road a lot of the time and I'm going to be 75 in April, so I decided that it might be a good idea if I had added security. Before using Jitterbug, I've had a couple of other cellphone providers The one before that was Verizon and a smartphone, and it was very expensive for the amount that I used it. I had decided that if I needed to upgrade, then I would go to the one that GreatCall has. I didn't need all the features that were on the Samsung smartphone that I had. The reason I bought the Jitterbug, essentially, was to have a phone with me, but also the adding of the 5Star. The other big thing for me is that I do not have to charge the phone every single day. It seemed like every time I turned around, I was having to charge the smartphone, and that was a pain.
I'm happier with Jitterbug, not only because of the the calling, but because of the larger numbers, and also the fact that I wear two hearing aids. I had gotten to the point I'd forgotten that I was having trouble hearing on the smartphone. But I don't have any trouble hearing on the Jitterbug phone. It's much better and the printing is larger.
The Jitterbug guys have always been very courteous. I've mistakenly hit the 5Star button and they do call back immediately, which is wonderful to know and that part of my experience in interacting with them has been great. I've been very happy with Jitterbug. It's been a good thing as long as I don't press the wrong button to call 5Star.

But the money might be the situation for them because I think I paid a hundred and something dollars when I first ordered it. But now, I don't have much of a bill. I think around $30 a month. I refused to carry a cell phone for so many years because everybody I worked with who had one, you couldn't sit and have a conversation with them without them hopping on the phone every time it buzzes for a text message. When I retired and was doing some traveling, it involved lengthy car rides. I decided I'd better get one from Jitterbug just in case something came up that I needed either assistance or know where to find people, or I'd be late. It's provided me with a link that I can use to touch base with my wife or daughter when I've done some traveling to the East Coast to see family members that are elderly. It's also provided a link that I can call folks to say, "I've landed, I'm heading down your way and I expect to be there in three or four hours." It's done everything I hoped it would do.
Jitterbug has been recommended to me many times, even by IT people. It has a very simple way to proceed. If all you wanted to do was make calls, this was a good way to go. Their team was excellent. They have been patient when they walked me through the process. As a 70-year-old, I used computers all my life. But if things went wrong, I needed to talk to somebody that could make them go right or tell me, "Hey, that's not a problem. It will bounce right back," etc. The experience was very positive. One time, I hit the wrong button and I got their emergency line. I explained that I hit the wrong button and they said, "Okay, everything is fine. If we can be of any assistance, contact us." They've really been everything I wanted in a phone.

I had used a couple of smaller ones sold by Sears and a few others but I lost them because I didn't used them very often. I didn't like them because they were just too complicated and the numbers are really small and my fingers are really big. People are always having trouble with their phones because it's too complicated, and I don't have any trouble with mine now. I have the most basic Jitterbug, the flip one. It works great for me and stays charged for a long time. I got only six or eight people that I contact and I just press the button to call them. Since using Jitterbug, I feel more connected. My wife can get a hold of me when she wants to. The only complaint I have is I wanted a blue Jitterbug, but they said there was no blue available at that time, and I got a red one but it's no big deal to me. They do real good with distance, and we're happy with it.

Since July 2015, we have been looking for something that would give us peace of mind about my father-in-law who lives alone in Washington state. He fell and broke a hip in March and my husband spent 6 months of this year caring for him. We found Jitterbug and were very pleased with the features it advertised. Since September, we have been unable to "see" him on our smartphones. Every week, we would get reviews that he needed to be reminded to use the phone, when, in fact, he was using it. Calls to GreatCall were eventually "escalated" and despite being assured I would be contacted, I would have to call them and go through the entire history every single time with no more than one update (which only worked briefly) and escalations.
Today, when I called, I cancelled the account and asked for a refund. All that was offered was $15. The explanation for why such a paltry amount was it was for the "link." It would seem to me that if the link doesn't work, the product fails to live up to its advertising and is therefore grounds for "false advertising." I will be seeking the advice of personal counsel and additionally using social media to warn people not to use this service. It clearly does not live up to what it touts to be.

Ms. Skinner established an account for phone service with the optional 5Star Urgent Response feature enabled on a Jitterbug5 cell phone purchased at a local department store. GreatCall regrets that the Link application did not perform to fullest abilities for Ms. Skinner. GreatCall makes every effort to resolve a reported problem . Because the Link application feature did not perform to its fullest capabilities, Ms. Skinner was refunded for the charges incurred that were directly related to the Link application feature. GreatCall can offer no further refunding at this time as the primary service features (phone service and 5Star Urgent Response) were not affected by the issues encountered with the Link application.

Now I have fewer worries because if he goes out, I know that he has some way to get in touch with me and that made it very easy for us.
The Jitterbug team was very good and helpful when setting up the phone with us and put in the most important phone numbers that we needed before we even received it. I would recommend Jitterbug. First, I went to the store to buy the Jitterbug phone and they gave me the wrong model. So I kept it for about a week or so. I didn't use it and returned it. Then I called them and ordered the correct model over the phone. The young man who helped me was very nice. They sent the phone to me through the mail and I'm very satisfied with it. One lady here has one and she only uses it to call when she needs to be picked up by the bus that takes us to various places from our place for retirees. I'm not used to my Jitterbug yet though and I haven't used it at all. I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it is. But other than that, I'm happy with it.

I saw Jitterbug on a magazine and my sister said I needed one like that because at that time, the phones went out and I didn't have any way of calling anybody. Because of that, I needed one down here where I live, out in the country, so she put in an order for me. I really like it, and I'm learning. My sister said that when I get used to it, she would teach me how to do the texting. I have a friend at church whose phone wasn't working and said, "I need another one." So, I showed my phone to him and told him how it was. Then I saw that he got one and he said that It works pretty good. I'm satisfied with Jitterbug but it's just going to take time for me to get all used to all I'm supposed to do, like taking pictures, etc.

It's worked out well with Jitterbug. The first thing I like about the phone is how it is shaped. The phone that I have from another carrier is round on all the edges, where one has to almost insert a fingernail at the end of it to open it up. That is inconvenient if I'm in the car and the phone rings. It sounds like a small thing but it was something that bothers me about my phone from them. Also, I like the fact that I've got 400 minutes a month as opposed to the other carrier where for about the same price, I only have 200 minutes a month. I'm thinking about getting rid of it as I'm completely satisfied with Jitterbug.

In fact, I've even talked my son into getting a phone and he is coming down, and we're going to activate it when he gets here. My only issue is, I bought a cradle for my phone and when I would put the phone in and push it down, it would make a little musical note. Now it stopped and I miss it. I wish my little jingle would come back because I liked it, and it lets me know if I was connected to my charger properly. I've been trying to fix it but it doesn’t seem to wanna be fixed.

I've known about Jitterbug and been meaning to get one for quite a while. I just kept putting it off because I knew it was gonna cost me at least $100. But because I got tired of putting minutes on my TracFone and never using them, which to me was stupid, I finally went for the lower end one on the Jitterbug which only gives around 60 minutes a month and the minutes don't carry over to a thousand minutes.
I have no desire to be on the cell phone with somebody 24 hours a day. I couldn't care less if I have a cell phone. I've got the Jitterbug only for emergencies in case my car doesn't go where I want it to, if I have to call my son and I'm out somewhere, or if I got in a pharmacy and my doctor was supposed to send over a prescription and it wasn’t there yet. Plus, as I get older if I need the emergency button, which I don't need yet, I can always have it activated.
So far I've used my Jitterbug only a couple of times but I'm satisfied with it. It looks fine and I don't have any problems with it. I would recommend it.

They were very helpful and gave step by step directions. The only negative part for me was when I put names and phone numbers into the phonebook. I assumed they would alphabetize themselves as they do with other cell phones, but that didn't happen. I would like to make that suggestion that maybe in the future phones that would be a good idea for Jitterbug to look at. Still I would definitely recommend the product. Unfortunately they didn't have a smaller cut down thing like Jitterbug. I love the big numbers, the easiness, the simplicity of the phone book. I never had a cell phone before and decided to cancel my landline account with Verizon as it cost over $27 a month just to have access to a telephone line. I had heard of the Jitterbug 5 phone on TV and explored the internet and liked the idea of having a highly rated good cell phone. Thus when the TV specials run in late September I called GreatCall.com and ordered the Jitterbug 5. The customer service rep in San Diego took care of the details and said when I receive the phone I could go online and save the $35 activation fee and do it myself. Once I received the phone and attempted to do that (activate the phone # online) it refused to recognize my new phone # with the message "Invalid phone #"... and I made several attempts to activate the phone online... with no luck.
Frustrated I called the Customer Service # and they spent only a few minutes with me and I did all the pressing of all the numbers on the screen and I activated the account long after the customer service rep hung up on me. For this I was charged $35 and when I called the customer service dept back at GreatCall.Com a few days later to see how my billing was set up, I discovered that the so-called $79 shipping cost for the Jitterbug 5 cell phone was actually billed at $142.50... yes $142.50. That would be $79. + taxes + shipping + the $35 Activation Fee.
Now on top of this, I want to use my bank for direct payment purposes for the monthly $26.40 service use charge (the 400 minutes plan) and attempting to do this online again the cell phone # comes up as "An invalid phone #". I wrote to customer service at the GreatCall.com online address and nobody got back to me (it's been a week) and I've called the GreatCall.com phone # and they keep telling me I should be able to use my online account to change my billing information. This hasn't worked and I'm wasting a lot of time attempting to log on to my online account with GreatCall.com. Has anybody else been having the same problems? Is there a way out of this? All I want is GreatCall.com to do the right thing... and it hasn't been done.

Richard, We are sorry if there was any misunderstanding, in reviewing the audio recording of the call to order service we have found that our representative confirmed the total amount to be collected prior to obtaining your payment information. As a one-time courtesy we will issue a $10.00 credit which is the difference in the activation fee. We charge $35 for activation if ordered direct and/or activated by phone. The activation fee is $25.00 if the product is purchased at a retail location and service is setup on our website. In addition, we can help you register your account online but show that when you called for assistance with this, you were unable to access your computer so that we could walk you through the registration. Finally, we show that your account is setup for automatic billing to a credit/debit card, however, you have also mailed a payment. But other than that, I would recommend them to people who are the same age as I am or older.
I had used AT&T but their coverage was sub par in our area. They had tried all kinds of things to improve it, but it did not improve it. For example, about 4 years ago, they pushed a microcell tower thingy on me and it was a device that tested the signal strength from the nearby tower which basically rerouted it to a voiceover internet protocol. The problem I had there was that if my internet went down, I was still stuck with bad coverage. Aside from that, AT&T focused less on the customer service and trying to cross-sell. My husband was in an accident 20 years ago and has brain damage, and he does not learn new things easily, so I hate to leave him by himself without some way of contacting him to make sure everything's okay or for him to contact me. We've had this phone about two months now, but he still keeps it on the shelf instead of carrying it with him, so we're still working on that. All in all I love Jitterbug. The last phone I had was harder to use and had too many features. It was a two-year contract and extremely expensive so it was only used for emergencies. That's why I got Jitterbug because there’s no contract, it's the least expensive plan they have and it works great for me. I don't have any issues with it. Everything has been fine with Jitterbug except for the volume level. The simple sound is great, but we're still trying to figure out the phone to see if it could give a louder alarm but I haven't had time to look and see if it's even possible. Also, we'd love to be able to have a louder ring on the phone because it's difficult for my mother. I've read all the manual and looked online but we still can't find a way to make it louder. But besides that, their billing is accurate and getting her number transferred over was good.

Deborah, To increase the ringer volume power the phone on and flip open the phone. Press the upper portion of the volume control button on the side of the phone and look at the inside screen to see what level the volume is being set to. When you have reached MAX, then shut the cover of the phone. The volume control button is a toggle button (think of it as a see-saw), press the upper portion to raise the volume and the lower portion to decrease the volume. This will also work to increase/decrease the volume during a call.

The ladies at a luncheon we showed it to said, "no way could we wear that around our necks all day." GreatCall was polite about taking it back but there will be restocking fees. I talked and talked to them and their manager about how when you design a new product and release it, expect some people not to like it.
If you charge for returns and customer pays postage, next time, your customer is not so likely to order from you. In fact, I'm going to go look at your competitors right now and hope they'll stand by what they sell. Hey Jitterbug, if you have a new product, keep in mind some folks won't like it. Also, keep in mind, your market is older folks. Their needs are different. Listen to them when they tell you the product doesn't fit the bill.

Tee Sanford, GreatCall absolutely understands that our products and services are not going to be suited for every individual. This is why we offer service with no contracts and a 30 day return option. Please understand that the device is as small as we can we make it at this time. Also, the device is mobile and does not require a base station plugged into a computer or a phone line for the device to work when you are home and away from home throughout the United States. I purchased the Jitterbug for my mother. She is 93, has memory issues, and lives in an assisted living facility. Because she is home for a week or more at a time, and stays indoors, this phone would lose connection with the GreatCall system. My Link application would then report that the phone may be off or discharged, and location or movement data would not be available. Simply going to the doctor or other travel would not reset the connection. It was necessary to cycle the phone off and on in order to reset. Upshot is that it did not work for us. It is not like an iPhone as it uses GPS only, not cellular triangulation to determine the phone's location, and that is why it disconnects if it does not receive a satellite link for an extended period of time. For this system to work, the person with the phone must go out and about frequently enough for a satellite connection to occur.

I brag about it all the time. It's so easy to operate and that's why I've been showing people at the senior citizen center how great it is.
Also, anytime I've called Jitterbug for any kind of problem, they're a hundred percent very helpful. I'm legally blind and can only read some of it but it takes me a while and it even took me all day, but they still stayed right there and worked with me. I had Walmart Straight Talk before but the phone was too small (I did not like that) and they messed me around. Every month I had to pay so much money and when I told them to stop, they didn't. I had to fight them and I lost a whole month's payment.
