I like that Jitterbug was easy to operate and see, and it worked really well. The price was also good so, we went for it. The first Jitterbug I had was easier, it was new and we liked it just fine but I couldn't take pictures with it. So, we then bought the one where you could take pictures and I like it a lot. I take it with me when I go shopping or go traveling. I had a flat tire and I had one of the Jitterbugs so, I was able to call and get help. Also, the team has done really well by us.

Our home phones went out and I had to use it a lot. I had a 50-minute call and my bill went up to $72. I called them and they told me about a new one that I could get 200 minutes for the same amount. They changed it for me and I thought that was wonderful. Overall, they've been really helpful to us when we had any questions. They worked with me on the minutes that really helped us so, we're really pleased with it. I've told several friends about how Jitterbug would be really good for them.

I was using TracFone and it was okay except that it was getting a little bit hard to operate. I'm not up in this internet stuff. So, I didn't know what buttons to push to get what I wanted. I switched to Jitterbug and I have no problems with it, but one thing I noticed is it takes longer to connect than the TracFone. Also, when I enter data, it doesn't come up alphabetical order. But other than those, Jitterbug is very convenient.

We had a different system that was a lot more expensive and we figured we’re wasting our money on that because we don’t use the phone much. We just use it to make personal calls to our friends and for emergency purpose and didn’t need all the other specialist things. We wanted to switch phones and find something inexpensive and easy to work with. We went to a store that sold us the Jitterbug phone and I had to go back and talk to somebody in management and they finally sat down with me and explained to me the phone. They finally took care of it and we got it all resolved, but I wasn’t very thrilled about the first time when they did it. We're happy with Jitterbug and I like the ease of handling and simplicity. I’d recommend Jitterbug.

My Jitterbug is 100% better than the smartphone I had before. I can operate it but I don't use my Jitterbug phone very often - I only make two calls a month on it. I bought it for security for a trip and keep it around for that purpose. I was able to use it in two different emergencies. The first one was when we were down in Florida Keys. We had reserved a motel room in Key Largo. So, we didn't look for the place because we thought we were gonna get back before it was dark.

We drove all the way out across the keys and back again. It was so dark when we got back, we couldn't see street signs or landmarks, and we didn't know where that place was. I stopped and called their staff. I told them that we were gonna be a little late getting to the motel. I also asked how we could know when we got there. It was right next to one of the Marriott Hotels and it was a good landmark. Otherwise, we probably would have slept in the car that night. The other one was in Tucker. We were at Sam's Club and came out. Then, the car wouldn't start so we called AAA. They came and got us. I'm glad I had my Jitterbug phone.

I used to have a cell phone a long time ago and it went dead. Then Jitterbug is advertised highly in AARP and about every magazine I get. My daughter was the one that decided for me, so she called and ordered it. This is enough for me as an older person. I need it mostly if I drive and go by myself. Then the girl that my daughter ordered this from put a whole bunch of numbers in there for us, of my family, that I can call if I happen to get out on the road and can't get back home. Then I've used it quite a bit to call the kids because their numbers are in there. Most of my kids don't have my number. However, the phone doesn't make a whole lot of noise when somebody calls if I don't have it with me. I don't even know where the volume button's at but my daughter can take care of that. I'm well-pleased and happy with Jitterbug.

My husband and I got a little older so we switched to Jitterbug from our previous phone. It is easy to see and hear on it which is great. We live 1,800 feet up in the hills and no phones work up here. I use Jitterbug for emergency only. So when I get down out of the hills, if anything happens, or I'm going be late coming home, I can call my husband. I'm happy with Jitterbug. But the $30 I'm paying for an emergency phone is three times more than what I was paying for my other phone back then.

I'm having an awful time with cellphones and it's not working for me the way it should. I use Jitterbug strictly when I'm on the road should I have trouble. At home, I have a house phone and I can hear better on it than on any cellphone.

I've had Jitterbug for several months and it's been working fine. They had an introductory plan for a number of minutes per month. I'm getting old and the numbers on the phone are nice and big so it's easily recognized. It doesn't do computations or calculations, the distance between here and the moon but in case I need it, I have it.

My wife had to show me how to put in names and numbers in my little log but it's good. It's working because I keep it to a minimum. I don't chitchat on it that much. I call long distance and it has good reception. I got a daughter up in New York State, one is up in Illinois, and I have a couple of brothers in California. So for when I need to message, I just get the message across, and also have messages returned to me. The other company my wife has, they buy the instrument and they do so much, but then it gets a little too much. So I keep Jitterbug for basic communication and from that point, I like it. It delivers.

I'm not satisfied with Jitterbug. I don't know who had the number prior to me getting the phone number but I keep getting texts about some class reunion, twice or three times ever since I've had the phone. Then, a lot of times, the reception is not right. I have to keep opening and then closing and then opening and closing to get a dial tone. If that doesn't work, then I have to turn it off completely then reboot it. I'm thinking about canceling. I can go with MetroPCS because I know people that have it. As a matter of fact, it's even a little cheaper than $39 and some change that I'm paying a month. I'm really not happy with the service. But I like the prompts with the voicemail because I am not a real computer guy. I have a work phone, a little small flip phone. It's by Verizon for my company and it's far superior.

I saw Jitterbug in an advertisement in Canada just before we left to come down for six months in the winter. When I got here, I called the company and made reservations to get it. I used a different provider before and I wasn't too happy with it. I'm a senior citizen and I found the numbers and letters were too small. A couple of times, I've dialed the wrong number. I couldn’t see them very well.

I wasn't too fussy with the program itself, but it wasn't a flip phone and I was looking for one. I had one two years ago and I was told by this other company that the flip phone was going out of production. So, I bought this other one and I wasn't happy with it. When it's in my pocket, all of a sudden, somebody comes on the line and asked what I did when I didn't do anything. Maybe I put my hand in my pocket or touch my pant leg and all of the sudden, the thing comes on. That's why I like the flip phone because I can just flip it down and there are no buttons there to activate it unless I push the button myself with my hand once I open the flip part of it. So when I saw this Jitterbug flip phone, I took advantage of it and I really like it. The numbers and letters with it are very good. It's a good little phone and it's very convenient. I only use it for making and receiving phone calls, that's all I wanted it for.

However, I have a problem with it. I usually charge the battery at night. I just close the flip phone itself and put it through the battery charger. When I take it off in the morning, I usually select the on/off button and then leave it on for a few seconds until it actually comes on the screen. There's a little blip that goes across and I seem to have a little problem trying to get it to stay on for me. I have to hold it down for a few seconds for it to come online.

When I wanna phone somebody and I flip it up, I also go through that process because it doesn't come on when I just open the flip part of it. Then I seem to have a little problem trying to get a number because there's a little icon that goes across the screen back and forth. I'll fool around with it and then all of a sudden, it'll be okay. I don't know what I have to do there to stop that so I can make a regular phone call. And it's happened to me two or three times. But once it's on, it seems to be okay.

Otherwise, I'd have to get somebody to take it to some garage and then I'd probably be standing around for an hour. I called Greatcall and asked them about the Jitterbug Flip and it sounded interesting so I decided to order it. I took the 200 minutes a month plan because that's all the smaller I could get the service. Then I thought about it for a while. There's no way I'll be using 200 minutes a month, so I was tempted to send it back, but then I thought, "We live out in the country and we're both seniors, and we need the phone," so I decided to keep it.

We've got a landline and I will not give up my landline. So, it's just a phone for travelling with. I've used it about 3 or 4 times for short conversations from the time I first had it and I haven't sat down to really study it. If I ever really get the knack of how to use it, I'll probably be a lot happier than I am right now about it.

That little phone from Comcast that I used before had a lot of features. Jitterbug Flip, in the other hand, wasn't nearly as nice. It cost me $0.99 and when I put new numbers in, it doesn't do it alphabetically. I also don't know how you would reset it. It's been terrible. The girl that I spoke to at customer service thought I got a bad phone because I only had it a couple of weeks and it wouldn't work. I called and she said to take the back off and rub the battery. It worked for a while and now it stopped again. So, she's sending me a new phone supposedly and she says that there's a way that the phone itself will put names in alphabetical order. I had a very good interaction with her though.

One of the reasons I got it is that I drive a 2002 Jaguar and it was advertised that they got the "Star 5" but it doesn't have where you can call in and get directions if you're lost. Also, lot of times the volume doesn't seem high enough but it may be because of the way I grab the phone. Sometimes I'll hit the side of it and then it'll say volume high or volume low. It's a phone I keep in case of emergencies but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anybody yet.

I tried another carrier and that didn’t work very well. So I threw it in the trash and went to Jitterbug. I am a very basic user. I don’t use all the features. I just use it for a phone and I wouldn't want any extra features. I'm fine with what it is. I called the Jitterbug team because I had trouble charging and this young lady helped me. She was very good. She helped me take the phone apart, take the battery out and put it back in and it started working. She was really efficient. I appreciate her help.

My 65-year-old brother is technologically unsophisticated. He was able to use the old Jitterbug until the battery wore out. He was unable to use the new Jitterbug flip, and also kept setting the medical alert device off. After about two or three months, I had to cancel the phone. I chose to go to another company that makes a simpler phone, and is almost 1/3 the cost. I feel that GreatCall's advertising is misleading. The phones are unusable by many technically unsophisticated and elderly people. What a disappointment!!!

It fits in a certain area that I wanted this phone to work, more primarily to dial out if I will not receive calls. It makes it a little easier in how well I can make a phone call out. With this phone, I get to call my children and next door neighbors, and I use it primarily as an outgoing phone.

The buttons are not easy to use. Jitterbug removed the slot to hang a lanyard. I have severe arthritis in my hands and the NEW slimline design is difficult to open. This is not the phone to purchase if you have a hearing problem or any kind of arthritis in your hands. Jitterbug will not refund or replace the phone with the "old" model and advised me to buy one from eBay! Very disappointed with the new Slimline Flip Phone and Jitterbug as a company, marketing this phone to seniors! I purchased the Doro PhoneEasy from another carrier. Half the cost and a much better quality phone.

I like what they offered especially the 5Star which was very important. It's my husband's first phone. He never wanted one but I thought it was time that he had one. I like the phone and it's also big enough for his fingers. I talked with their representatives several times. They're very nice and they helped me when I filled out the doctor report, the doctor information and medication. So, if God Forbid there's any problem, they already have the information. The Jitterbug was the easiest one to have as I don't know how to do smartphones. I like the idea of it. It's simple and all I want it for is for my mom and her doctors to reach me where I am.

However, my mom went to the hospital the first week I had my Jitterbug and it wouldn't work. The Jitterbug rep told me to take the battery out and put it back in and it worked. Every so often, the phone stalls so I do the same procedure. The assisted living where my mother was called and couldn't get me because of that. Then when I was at the hospital, I couldn't get the light up for work. So I took that battery out and put it back in the next day and it's been working fine since. That was three weeks ago.

The rep also told me that if it happens more often, I should let them know and they'll get me another phone. But I was reading comments that the phones are made by somebody else in China and everybody is having trouble. So my trouble isn't so bad. I'll just forget it because I really need the phone for my mom. I can't rely on it all the time but I love it and I'm okay with it. In fact, I have recommended it to a lot of people that have to change just like me.

My aunt and I have macular degeneration and she introduced me to Jitterbug. She has a friend who has Jitterbug and it has the bigger light, bigger screen, and bigger numbers which were easier for us to use. She bought one for her daughter as well and had me get it because my brother just passed away in the end of September. We've lived together for years and he always took care of everything. He took me wherever I had to go at any point.

Since I've been using Jitterbug, I'm quite pleased with it. I had an episode in November and my friends found me on the floor in the house. I spent three days in the intensive care. I had just gotten the phone, but I was unconscious so I couldn’t use it to get help. But I keep it with me all the time even if I walk up to the mailbox because I might I trip. It's a comforting feeling to know I have it with me. I know exactly where the button is and I can push it if I need it. Thank God I haven’t had to use the emergency button on anything, but it's been really easier for me to use.

Another friend of mine had the station thing that they have for emergency for people who fall. It's with the necklace and all that rigmarole. I had that sent to me and tried to use it but it didn’t work for me so I sent it back. I've had other cellphones, but they just don’t work for me and I can't see the screen on them. My vision has gotten into such a point that I have trouble now seeing the screen on my Jitterbug. My right eye is completely gone and I only have peripheral vision in both of my eyes. For anybody that has macular degeneration, Jitterbug is something that ought to be promoted. I have recommended it to a lot of people.

It also had an emergency button that he could get, and the price seemed okay, too.

So far, Jitterbug has been perfect. I've called them a few times when he first got it and they answered all of my questions. I remember one time I hit the emergency button while I was showing it to my sister and they called back in two seconds wanting to know what was wrong, so it was very good service. However, it's caused a little anxiety because it's an issue to get him to make sure he has it and understands how to use it. It has caused a lot of arguments with him. The other day he came up to me and said he couldn't get it to turn on. I pushed the on button a couple of times but it didn’t work. He went up and finally read the instructions. The on button needs to be held down for three seconds or more. Him just getting used to having it and using it have caused a little tension, but it's better than not having it. I ordered the Jitterbug flip phone for my blind Dad. He needs bigger keys to manually dial a number. We presumed that Voice Dial would be on the phone as a standard feature. When I did not find it in the menu (it is listed in the instruction manual, on page 46 and 47, as if it a standard feature installed on the phone), I contacted the line carrier to see why Voice Dial was not on the menu. I was told by everyone I talked to the Call Center that they would send an update to the phone to add Voice Dial to the menu so that it would come up every time Dad opens the phone. I was told it takes anywhere from 2-4 hours to update.

It never appeared on the phone. I have called every day since the phone arrived (January 17, 2017 through January 24, 2017 but not Saturday and Sunday) to get this feature on the phone. After over a week of daily calls to Great Call, I was finally told that, because we have a Fair to Poor signal in our area, they could not update his phone to have this service.

Every other cell phone we have had HAS Voice Dial installed as a standard feature. The ads show someone opening their flip phone and hearing a command similar to "Who do you want to call?" This prompt does NOT come up. We are in dire need of having this feature on the phone and if it cannot be added as a PERMANENT feature that won't be deleted if he accidentally turns his phone off, we will be going to another phone company for service. It doesn't make sense for this sophisticated phone to not have Voice Dial as a standard menu item.

We are hoping that you can provide a permanent solution to this problem in the next few days as he cannot be without cell phone service due to his blindness and need to contact family and neighbors for his safety. Please call me on my cell ** or send me an email message letting me know what I need to do so Dad can have this service. If this feature cannot be permanently added to Dad's phone, I will go to a local carrier and purchase a phone that HAS "Voice Dial" feature permanently installed as a standard feature and return the Jitterbug phone for a full refund of the purchase price plus the shipping charges.

Purchased Jitterbug Flip for my 88 year old mother with mild dementia. Was told that certain features would be turned off when we received it because she tends to push buttons without understanding results. So 5star and 911 and voicemail were supposed to be deactivated. When it was received they weren't and mom found using the phone directory too difficult, so I tried to call customer service to fix the problems. Sat on hold for over an hour the first time and was told to call back at non peak times. That was 9pm on a Tuesday night! Tried the next day, same issue. Held for hour one time and over an hour the next. Finally got someone the third attempt that day after a 40 min hold. Very nice, regret lack of prior programming, and set up Voice activated dialing and fixed other problems. Elated, I took it back to mom.

We practiced it for an hour. I left and returned a bit later. She was ready to throw the phone and so were her nurses. There was no outgoing speaker. No one could hear you if you called, and voice recognition didn't work because the phone didn't hear you. Short story, I tried for two days to get to customer service to get fix or replace. Finally called sales and asked to disconnect service and return defective phone. After 4 transfers found out it was software glitch and could have been solved by turning phone off and on... If I had only been able to get customer service to talk to me. End of story, returned phone. Cute thing but not for the exact person they target. Problems too hard to solve. They have enough sales people but way too few customer service.

I bought the Jitterbug as my spare phone. I wanted to have another means of communication in case my other cellphone that I use all the time goes out, which happened before. I use it once in a while just to keep it active, but it does what I need it for. I have no phone on me all the time and if I fall off my tractor, all I want to do is press one button and talk to a person, not a machine. I don’t need it right now because I can communicate, walk around and do what I’m supposed to do. But I’m happy with it and I know if I get it to where I need to use the little red button, I’ll do so. I talked to a couple of people, early on when I first ordered. They answered my questions and I had no other problems. I would definitely recommend Jitterbug to anybody else.

I use the phone, keep it with me all the time, and it's something my sons thought I should have and to have good access. I use it mainly for my long distance calling. It's great with Jitterbug. I like my phone really good. Before using Jitterbug, I used a cellphone from a different company. I liked this other phone, too, because I was used to it. But it was pretty expensive, and I'm pretty old and don't want anything extravagant. I told my son that I just want something with the basic features so my son went to Jitterbug. It does what I need. I use it some, but I don't make a lot of calls. I just use the basics. I also don't use the camera or other features. I know that more could be done with my phone, like texting and other things. I went to North Carolina several weeks ago to my daughter's place. Her daughter got married. Somebody picked my Jitterbug phone up there and said, "Wow, Grandma, you have a fancy phone."

He talks to his son more often now.

Still, we haven't had a very good experience with Jitterbug. I filled out the paper and sent out a voided check to have them deduct the payment automatically. They've never done that. I've called them and they said there's no record of it even though they have my voided check. They deducted 398 minutes off of our last bill and I was told by the people at Best Buy that they rolled over.

I met someone who had a Jitterbug and she really loved it. So, I've been keeping it in my mind all this time and I got one. My husband started with another company a year before I got Jitterbug. I didn't really like his company. So, I thought I'd stick with Jitterbug because that's the one I always planned to go to. It's great. Sometimes, when I'm at a bus stop, I can call and punch in the code to find out when it's coming. And if I'm at the grocery store, I can call and make sure I'm getting the right thing. I called the team at Jitterbug because it was phasing out and was told to turn it on and off. Sometimes, it needs a little reboot. I'm new to computers so I have to learn all these.

However, I get so many calls from advertisers and even crazy texts. I don't pick it up if I don't recognize the phone number. People with smartphones don't seem to be bothered as much with calls from companies. My girlfriend says she doesn't get any and I get several a week. Aside from that, I really like it. So, this was an inexpensive alternative to have a phone which we use when we go places. We have a regular land phone so it's not something that I use every day. But it's convenient and certainly, the cost is much better than what I was paying before with AT&T.

However, the number that they gave me is a number that someone else had. Because I constantly get text messages from Catherines. I don't shop at a large women's store but they come and also alerts from the Toms River Police. That person lived in that area. I can't get rid of it 'cause when I get calls, there's nobody on the other line. Other than that inconvenience who calls me, no one else calls me except my wife. No one has this phone number except us. But Jitterbug is really reliable and at a right cost for a senior citizen.

My wife is visually impaired and we wanted a simpler phone than the smart phone that Sprint provided so we decided to try the Jitterbug based upon our experience with the emergency call pendant that she has. Unfortunately this phone is not what it is advertised to be. There are three major issues we've found with the phone, and we've had three of them each trying to find one that worked as advertised:

    1. Very poor signal strength - we live about 1/2 mile off of I-70 in a town of 68,000 near St. Louis and it's only "Fair" when we're outside and "Poor" inside the house. The Sprint phone was much better in this respect.
    2. The phone shuts itself off even though it's on the charging cradle. I haven't been able to discern a pattern for this.

    3. The microphone shuts itself off from time to time without warning, and you have to restart the phone to reactivate it. Restarts consume a couple of minutes, if you're lucky.

These three issues would seem to me to be significant safety issues in the event of an emergency. We don't have the 5 Star feature since my wife has the pendant with fall detection. Thankfully we haven't had the need to test the pendant. Operationally I have several other issues with this phone: The phone book requires use of the internet to add contacts and there is no search feature so you either have to scroll through your contact list or use their unreliable "Voice Dial" feature. The speech recognition ability of "Voice Dial" is erratic at best and sometimes ludicrously wrong. Voice mail messages may arrive days after being left, so far my record is a week.

Sometimes the phone does not ring at all and the only way you know that you've missed a call is when the phone notifies you that you've got a missed call. If they've left a voice mail, you may not get a missed call message. The ring volume is low even on the maximum setting and the vibrate feature is weak as well so you can easily miss a call in a noisy environment or when using the vibrate feature.

On the plus side, we found their customer service very helpful, as far as they can be. However, we also found that each call took about an hour, and we made several, when you include the time on hold. Then are also limited by the phone technology so there really isn't anything that can be done about those issues by Customer Service. Based upon our experiences we would recommend against buying this phone.

My husband's phone was hooked up to my account on Sprint, but when he lost the phone, they couldn’t give him a simple one. So we got him one from Jitterbug instead. I also intend to get one myself when my contract with Sprint is over in August. The Jitterbug team helped me set the phone up for my husband. It’s very easy to use and I like the fact that I was able to program all the numbers that he needs so that he can click down and find the one he wants, hit "yes" and it dials out quickly.

We purchased a Jitterbug from them. They advertised it would work in our zip code. It would not. We could barely get 1 bar. Also found out after we purchased the phone that it has no voicemail. You have to purchase voicemail separately. What?? Anyway we promptly packaged the phone up and sent it back. I called and cancelled my service and told them they would be receiving the phone. They rec'd it on 10/19. They just informed me they are "reviewing" further the decision to refund us because the phone was scratched. We didn't even take it outside of the house. Then they charged my bank account the monthly charge - after I had already cancelled my service.

I have had a Jitterbug phone for many years that I keep in a car as a backup, have almost never used. Relatives were using the car last December (2016) and tried to use the phone, with no luck. I did not have time to follow-up until now. It turns on, seems like it should work but calls don't go through. Message said to contact customer service. I did and after a good half hour talking to them, they gave up and said it must be a bad phone, although that was certainly not clear. They did not offer to replace it or give me credit for at least 10 months when I clearly did not have service. I cancelled effective immediately but have a credit on my account. They said it would take 2 months (!!!) to receive the refund. Worst service I have encountered in a very long time. I would stay away from this company.

I like my Jitterbug Flip. It’s just the service that I needed. I had another phone but I didn’t really like it. I wanted just a basic phone. We don’t need all the other stuff that goes with the other phones and the prices seem to escalate. Jitterbug stays pretty much where I need it. I don’t get on my phone unless I have to, and I use it for convenience on when I travel or wherever I go. One time, I dropped one of my Jitterbugs in the water and their rep said I was allowed another phone and when I got the other phone, I had no problem with them. I was really satisfied with their service. It does me very well. As long as it stays the way it is, I’m perfectly contented with it. I also recommended it to several friends and they’ve looked into it.

I bought a Jitterbug flip phone from GreatCall because I did not like my smart phone, which was too difficult to see and text on due to its small numbers. The phone cost about $129, which was far too high for such a terrible product and the accompanying awful customer service. First, you have to pay extra for voice mail, which is included with virtually every other phone, but you're not told that until you have the phone. It doesn't really matter, though, because even after you pay for voice mail, the phone doesn't notify you that you have a message. I finally called the phone from another one, left a message and then SIX (!) voice mails popped up, one of which was for work (I'm a writer) that would have paid several hundred dollars but that was no longer available, thanks to the long lag time.

When you try to call customer service, you are put on hold for hours. I emailed customer service after failing to reach the company by phone, and was told the return time for the phone had passed. In short, "Tough beans, sucker." Repeated attempts to get the phone working or replaced were met with stonewalling. Finally, I gave up, canceled the service and went with Straight Talk, which, so far, I like very much, as customer service is actual service and the phone does what it's supposed to do. And, of course, as is the case everywhere except with GreatCall, voice mail is included.

Prior to getting it, I had a different cellphone that I canceled since I was going through so much difficulties at that time and didn't want a cellphone anymore. With Jitterbug, however, all my experiences have been good. When I call the reps, I always have good results. Once, I accidentally pressed the button on my phone, and the Jitterbug team notified my neighbor, although I didn't need to be notifying anybody at that time. I knew then that if something would happen, all I have to do is hit that red button on the phone. I would recommend Jitterbug Flip.

So the Jitterbug Flip is my emergency phone, and that was basically why I bought it. Prior to my Jitterbug, I didn't have a cellphone that I used long-term. If I went on a trip, I might buy one of those little, one-use cellphones where you just buy some minutes. But I found the screens hard to see and the buttons hard to use, and I do not do well with the touch screens. On the other hand, the Jitterbug Flip looked like the kind of phone I would be able to use. I really like it. It just folds up. I keep it in my purse.

I never had to contact the Jitterbug team because setting up the phone was so easy. The directions were very simple to follow. They assumed you knew nothing about phones. So, I just followed the directions and got set up, and the phone has been running smoothly ever since. It's a great service. Jitterbug is a very well-known company. I used to be a customer a few years ago in New Jersey. Although the cost was a little more expensive than another carrier, my Jitterbug experience was pretty good at that time in New Jersey. They took care of my phone calls; I always liked the phone, and the service, but then, when we came to Florida, somehow I canceled subscribing to the company when I left New Jersey and got a service from another company here in Florida. I called, ordered another phone from Jitterbug and gave it to my wife because she didn't have a phone here in Florida. Then, I activated the phone. I said, "Look, you take care of this." But she put it in a drawer somewhere, and never turned it on. She don't like a cell phone and forgot about it. For over three months, I didn’t like paying the bills because it has been taken out of my bank credit card account.

I called up, spoke with a gentleman, and explained the situation. He said, "Well, we cannot give you the credit for October. We cannot give you the credit for the other three months." And I got the other account that I will have to somehow maneuver to cancel that account and open the account of Jitterbug again, but it's a little complicated. I tried calling the phone and either they don't hear me or I don't hear them. In the situation that we are, I let it go for a while. But when I call customer service, the gentleman told me that, "Okay. We'll forget the payment for October. And then you call back and decide what you're gonna do."

It was a good feeling to have that phone in my pocket. In case of emergencies, I could call a nurse. I have all these advantages by using the phone. Plus, the people were professional, very pleasant and helpful. One time, when I changed phones, they took care of me and sent me a charger for my car. Everything was very good, I would recommend Jitterbug to anybody.

I'm beginning to question the legitimacy of this company. So far we probably would have had better luck buying a burner phone from a guy in a trench coat named Vinny. Ordered a Jitterbug Flip online for my mother. The package arrived with zero account information included, just a phone in the store packaging. On the package it clearly says "if you ordered from GreatCall online the phone is already activated". Turn the phone on and we get an error 03 and a phone number to call. The service rep tells me that's the code meaning that the signal strength is too weak to activate the phone. When I tell him the phone should already be activated he informs me that the phone isn't really activated until you connect (which really means the box is wrong).

We try multiple locations with 3 to 4 bars of signal strength on the Verizon network with no luck. Finally tech support admits that you need 5 bars of signal for the phone to activate. We live in NH and unless we are literally standing next to a cell tower, 5 bars is unheard of. We have lots of hills and trees that although they make the state beautiful, they tend to interfere with cell reception. The solution? Send another phone in the mail which is pre-activated (kind of what the box implies).

In the course of waiting on hold during all this I discover that the company sent the wrong user guides with the phone. Instead of the Flip guides they put the Jitterbug Smart guides in. The company does sell two phones so I can see why they could easily confuse the basic small red flip phone for a giant candy bar shaped black phone with no keypad. I mean 50% right is still pretty good. So after dealing with the activation issue, I ask the rep to send the correct guides. After putting me on hold for 30 minutes (watched a good episode of Big Bang Theory) he comes back and tells me they can't send out guides. I ask for a supervisor who tells me the guides are only online now. My mother's computer skills are worse than GreatCall's packing skills so that won't cut it of course.

I ask if guides usually ship with the Flip phone and he tells me yes. So I ask again for him to send us the guides. He tells me again that the guides are only online. We go around like this for 3 more iterations until he finally admits that the guides do exist in hard copy form and that they won't send one because it would cost them money to do so. After I told him it was about to cost him a subscriber and that subscribers are where their money comes from, he agrees "to make an exception this one time" and send the guides.

Then we get into a discussion of about the $35 activation fee that so far has lead to zero actual phone activations. Despite all the issues with process, the supervisor tells me the fee can't be waived. He did provide a $20 credit which is better than nothing but certainly not worth the aggravation. Luckily I was around to help mom and she didn't have to deal with all this. So after 90 minutes on the phone and $20, still no working phone and I'm not holding my breath about receiving the guides. Off to a good start.

    Response from Jitterbug Flip

Tim, we are sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with the Jitterbug Flip phone and service and we appreciate your feedback. The Jitterbug Flip does require a strong signal in order to activate, but there are several things that can interfere with the signal such as, siding materials, trees, topography or metal roofs and we may ask that you step outside for a better signal during the activation process. GreatCall makes every effort to activate a phone for service and in some instances a pre-activated phone may be required. The onetime $35 activation fee is charged as GreatCall does not have contracts, we do not charge late fees and there are no cancelation fees. In an effort to be environmentally friendly, GreatCall does not provide extra User Guides but does make them easily available online, however in the instance where a wrong guide was given, a guide would be provided. My daughter bought a Jitterbug for me. She wanted me to have a phone when I’m not with her in case I had to go to the doctor. She seems satisfied and once I get the hang of it, I’ll be satisfied too. I have tried to push the different things and see if I could follow directions but it’s hard for me because I’m 80 years old and I'm recovering from a stroke. I made a mistake once and pushed the red button. My daughter told me not to do it unless I was in trouble. I have been having a hard time for the past few years - before the stroke, I was recuperating from sepsis. Since having my Jitterbug, I now have fewer worries and my daughter says this will make things easier for me.

The Jitterbug is smaller than what I had before and that's what I like about it. It fits in my pocket better. My son set it up for me and got along all right. It was mostly for my protection, and I carry it because my son doesn't want me out on the road by myself without something that I can call them on if I have to. I feel as though I can get help in a hurry if I have to. I like that the phone warns me when the battery's gone down.

My previous phone was too small and since my eyes were failing, I thought the Jitterbug Flip would be something I would be interested in. With the Jitterbug, I get very good reception, and since getting it, I have less worries. As I'm not seeing too well, I carry the phone with me when I go outside to look at my flowers. I live in the country and know that no matter where I go, the cell phone works. I'm very satisfied with my Jitterbug. I can see it very well with the letters lit up, it's easy to use and does everything I need for it to do. And so, I've recommended the Jitterbug Flip to my friends.

All I wanted was a telephone to talk on and I didn't want one that takes pictures or gives me information. I had a telephone that I've had for several years and it died. It was so old that they didn't make a battery for it anymore. My daughter did a research and found that the Jitterbug phone was as close as she could get to my old phone. It was as simple as I wanted it to be. So she bought it and gave it to me. I'm satisfied with it but I don't use it very much and it's an emergency object for me. If I need to talk when I'm away from the house, I have a phone. My only comment about it is that it seems its battery runs down very quickly.

My Jitterbug phone is the only cellphone that I have. I got it because people were saying that I need one in case of an emergency when I'm out. The first two people I talked to from the team were very nice, though the third one wasn't into helping that day. One big perk of the phone is that the volume can be adjusted, especially when I had to use it outside with a whole lot of traffic. I was able to hear what the other person is saying and they were able to hear me without us screaming. However, I don't have access to the internet with it. I'm gonna have to change because I don't have a computer at home and I won't be getting a laptop to cut costs, so it would work better if I can put everything with it.

My son, his wife, and I were all living together for a while when my husband died and they would not let me come home until I had a monitor because I'm alone. They were very enthused about GreatCall so it got to the point that they told me I need a new cellphone. My daughter-in-law did research and Jitterbug is the best. We liked the monitor in the cellphone and it's good wherever I go. There's no way they would buy me a medical alert monitor that's only good for in the house because I can still drive and I go out. I had a call with their team and that time my son was around and he got me on the line and we chatted a little bit. I don't remember what he said but he was satisfied when he talked to them.

My first cellphone was the one my husband got me through Verizon and it's okay but I never really used it too much. I used it to alert my husband and say I'm ready to come home when I couldn't drive or if I needed his help. I've never been a big cellphone person and so when I got Jitterbug, I don't use it a lot because I use the landline when I'm at home. I'm very satisfied with the Jitterbug phone but I must learn what to do to find out if my battery is getting low. I know how to charge it but with my other one I knew right away how to do that. So it's really new to me even though I've had it for a while.

I love it, it is better & cheaper than others, + it has an EB [EMERGENCY BUTTON] with I hit 2 times accidentally when trying to find out how to charge it. I was told it is ok to keep the other phone too [they offered me to get another one if I paid for it, that if this breaks or gets stolen]. So now I have 2, my father told me [had 2 too] that if I am not sure what to do [emergency or not] that to use the 5 star to ask, also makes it easy to read & when on the charger it looks like a clock.

My sister is guardian [payee] as my father passed in May 20014. So when I got the flip I had them remove the text part so not to accidentally get carried away, I was told they use this to text me, but this would mean a reply which will cost me $10 a message. But these phones are also great for low-income people too. So you can say I flip over their phones. It is a great call!

At first I bought a Splash and I thought as long as I got to carry it around with me, I may as well have the flip phone and do with it too. I wanted to do it all in one so I wouldn't have to carry two different things around so I saved. Since I'm old school, a flip phone works fine for me so I got a Jitterbug Flip. I called them and was thinking of going back to Splash, but they said, “Well, you got to get a new one now because you got to have that re-done.” So I thought I'll just stick with the little flip phone I got. I had a smartphone. I gave it away. I couldn't put up with all the nonsense you had to go through with those things. I like Jitterbug because it's easy to use. I had a little bit of a problem with trying to get the loudspeaker to work. Somebody explained to me how to do that. I just haven't had the telephone call that I could use the system on.

I don't seem to be able to get very good reception from where I'm located. People with even super expensive phones have trouble. Although, when somebody calls me, I do get enough to know who they are and what they're saying. I like the idea anywhere in the United States, you can still use the phone. I use the phone on occasions when I'm outside of where I live. It lets me go outside. I have a motorized wheelchair. I like that I can use both the phone and the 5 Star alarm. I used to have a TracFone and it didn't work at all in my apartment. If I needed to call 911, it wouldn't have worked. If I was laying on the ground and needed help, I couldn't have used it. I have used the 5 Star alarm feature of it a couple of times now, somehow that seems to work. I got some help, they called the ambulance for me. It's always been very good every time I have called or had any questions and when I've called the emergency. It's always been super talking to the Jitterbug team.

It wasn't. A few minutes later I got another call from them who said they had it narrowed down, that we shouldn't go down to the end of the street. We looked very intently there but still couldn’t find it.

Then within an hour, I had another phone call and they said their magic eye in the sky is showing them that the phone is in our house and that we look at our closet which scared the devil out of us as somebody could know what we had in our house. I went in the closet and lo and behold, the phone was there. I felt so good. They tracked it very well within a frantic three hours for us.

The Jitterbug phones are nice because they have big numbers which we can read and our fingers can work with. We really like the phone itself though we only have it with us if we were out shopping and needed to call someone. We also have a daughter with cerebral palsy, so when she goes anywhere, we make sure she has it so that she can call home. However, the problem is we’re paying $18 a month though we don't use it. We've only made five or six phone calls on it since we’ve had it now for a couple of months. I’ve also had a couple of text messages on the Jitterbug, but we don’t text, so that was a mistake someone made. I'm not gonna argue over a couple of cents, but with my previous phone, we only paid for what we used, which is the same with the others that we see on TV now. I wished they had a program like that instead of paying a monthly fee. Since we’re both retired, it’s a money situation.

My mother is over 80 years old and is blind. She has trouble with complicated technology such as cell phones requiring that she navigate several menus; she also can neither see nor use the buttons on most cell phones. After considerable research, I bought her a Jitterbug cell phone and added the 5-Star service; this is a private service that responds to an emergency when someone presses the dedicated red button on the phone. This phone has been a disaster from the beginning.

First of all, although I asked that it be activated when I ordered it, it arrived NOT activated. It took me three days on Customer Support to get it activated. Second, despite what I was told on the phone, the speakerphone could NOT be made into the default. Since my mother is too blind to see the screen or any message on it, I needed the phone to be in speakerphone mode every time it was opened. As it turned out, the Jitterbug cannot be put into speakerphone mode by default.

Third, if the phone is not answered within three or four rings, it rolls over to voicemail. I challenge you to find a single senior who can answer any phone within three rings. I don't know that I could, and mine is in my pocket. The next time someone opens the Jitterbug phone, it displays an alert: "You have a missed call, redial yes or no?" IF YOU DO NOT DISMISS THIS ALERT SCREEN, YOU CANNOT USE THE PHONE. And the only way to dismiss the screen is to punch the No button. Which blind people cannot see. The No button is next to the on/off button, which means that even blind people with sensitive touch might mistakenly turn their phones OFF, instead of dismissing the screen.

Needless to say, the fact that a blind person cannot even see the screen, let alone turn it off, renders the phone useless until a sighted person can assist. I contacted Customer Support about this issue, was routed to Tech Support, and was told that if we closed the phone, waited a few minutes, and re-opened the phone, the alert would be automatically dismissed. This did not happen consistently. I tested this solution several times, sometimes waiting as long as five minutes, and only about half the time did it work. Again, for a blind person who cannot see the alert or dismiss it, this is a show-stopper.

Fourth, and most dangerous, the 5-Star service is fatally flawed. My mother accidentally pushed the 5-Star service button, which is a dedicated button. I received a robo-call from 5-Star, which rang once and then went IMMEDIATELY to voicemail, making it impossible to answer. The call alerted me to the fact that my mother had hit the emergency button. I called my mother, who never heard the phone ring. 5-Star followed up, per protocol, by returning my mother's call and asking for confirmation. And this, folks, is where the trouble really begins:

5-Star could not hear us. Several times, the 5-Star service called my mother's phone. I answered it each time. At no time could the service hear us, although anyone else who called the phone could hear me just fine. Somehow, any response to 5-Star was blocked. The result, per 5-Star's protocol, was to send an emergency response team when they did not get a cancellation. Despite calling 5-Star personally (they could not hear me), and responding to their direct calls to the phone, we could not prevent FOUR emergency response teams showing up at my mom's house. While I appreciate their zeal, and I appreciate that 5-Star followed through on their promise, I have to say that this was a colossal and frustrating waste of our time and that of the emergency personnel.

I called GreatCall to cancel the service and get my money back. I was informed that the 30-day money back guarantee period had passed. I told the service agents, and the tech support agents, that this was not a matter of me changing my mind, THIS WAS DEFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY. The alert message renders it useless to the blind, and the 5-Star button apparently mutes the microphone. This is dangerously flawed technology, and I wanted my money back. I didn't get it. My service was cancelled. I still get to pay the bill for however many calls to and from 5-Star were made.

Be warned, consumers. If you are buying this phone for a senior, or worse, for a blind person, there are serious and dangerous flaws in its design and function. Unless you are certain that the person who will be using this phone can see the screen and understand the directions, can differentiate by touch between one button and the one next to it, and will never press the 5-Star service button by accident, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. This phone is not suitable for elderly or blind persons.
