My 2006 Cobalt has been in the shop more than it has been out. It has had 2 rebuilt engines, repairs for oil leaks 3 times, 3 new fuel pumps, 5 exhaust gaskets, 2 wheel bearings, 2 rotors and brake calipers, 1 air pump and 3 new thermostats. It has been to different mechanics and different shops and has cost the warranty company more money than the car is valued, not to mention deductibles to me, lost wages and valuable time of myself and family members who have had to drive me places. I have gotten nothing but the run around from DriveTime and Aeverex, the warranty company. They even give the mechanics the run around. This is totally unacceptable.

I purchased a vehicle from DriveTime in February 2011 and have made 100% of my payments on time. In November 2014, I discovered that my full payment history had been removed from my credit report with all three credit bureaus. I contacted DriveTime immediately and was told that they were revamping their system, which required them to remove credit history for a short time. I was told it would be resolved within 72 hours and to call back the following week if it did not reappear on my report. I checked again as instructed and saw it was still not on my report, so I called back. The next person I spoke to informed me that credit reported had been stopped and that I would need to give it until January 2015 to reappear on my report. Come February 2015, still nothing.
I have called DriveTime monthly since February 2015 to get this issue resolved, each time getting a different story from the representative. In April 2015, I paid off my loan and they sent me the title, which normally would be great, except now when I call customer service, they tell me I am no longer a customer as I do not have an open account, so they can't help me.
I finally had somewhat of a breakthrough in June 2015 when I was able to speak to a manager who actually filed the complaint and gave me the number for DriveTime Credit disputes. As it turns out, the other representatives I had spoken to never even reported that I had called. They all just told me to call back later without putting any notes in the account as to my issue. After speaking with the manager, I immediately called the number she provided and was dismayed to discover that the number she gave just took me right back to the main menu. Nowhere in the menu did it give me any kind of option to speak with someone regarding credit disputes. I continue to call on a monthly basis.
Fast forward to September 2015 (almost 1 year of complaining later) and I have yet to get my issue resolved. I have been forced to retain a financial attorney in the hopes that they will be able to resolve this issue. I have not had the best credit history, obviously, or I would have never leased a car from DriveTime. I worked really hard to make sure I made every single payment on time - some payments even over the minimum amount due to rebuild my credit. On top of this, I am currently trying to buy a house. When this credit history disappeared, it decimated my credit score and I was forced to stop looking for a home. It is absolutely devastating, and I have never regretted anything more in my life than the day I walked away with a vehicle from DriveTime.

A few months ago I purchased a car from Riverside DriveTime. The salesman was very nice but he LIED to me. I was told that the person who cosigned on my car can be removed after 6 months to a year. I recently inquired about this and was told that wouldn't happen. Now my cosigner is upset because we were told false information.

I purchased a car from DriveTime and the car has been in the shop for 23 of the 30 days I have had it. The title was never signed over to me. So I couldn't register the car plus the fees to register the car is almost 1800 dollars for a car I cannot drive. Most of the people that I have contacted don't seem to care that they sold me a bad car.

I originally went to DriveTime 2 years ago (2013) because I needed a vehicle ASAP on a Sunday and they were the only dealership open. I put a $1000 down payment on a brand-new 2013 Suzuki SX4 that only had 7 miles on it. I made my payments on time until a divorce and bankruptcy filing caused me financial problems. I was able to have the bankruptcy dismissed after only 10 months, during this time DT was being paid through the Trustee. When it was dismissed, I contacted DT about getting a modification of my remaining payments, where the missed payments would be added to the end of my loan. The gentleman that I spoke to said I qualified for the modification and that he would be sending paperwork for me to sign.
I followed up when I didn't receive anything and a woman told me the same thing. This was approx. 2 months ago. Because of the bankruptcy, I could not make payments online to DT and the customer service reps kept saying that there was an issue with my account, that I couldn't make payments on the phone with them. (I still had not, and currently have not, received modification paperwork, but was trying to make an attempt to pay something on my account.) The reps kept telling me that it would be documented in my account that I did request the modification and attempted payments.
Yesterday a repo man came to repossess my car for non-payment. When I called DT to get the issue resolved, their message said the office was open on Sat and Sun until 7 pm EST - it was 4 EST and their offices were closed. I called the local office where I purchased the car and spoke with an office manager who informed me that back in March of this year, DT notified me that my car was being repossessed for non-payment! I was in bankruptcy at that time and they received the payments. The manager then informed me that they had not received payment since May of this year and that it was showing that my account was being REVIEWED for repossession.
I did not give my car to the repo man since I did make payments and attempted to make payments as well as work on a modification with DT. The local manager told me to work an arrangement out with the repo man to keep my vehicle until DT corporate opens, that the repo man makes those type of deals all the time. The repo man heard this, as I was on speaker phone, and never once spoke up and said he would not agree to it, nor would he show me the contract for repossession, the name of his company, or anything else.
I have tried all different avenues (different phone numbers, online chat, fax) to get in contact with DT since yesterday. The repo man has threatened to get a warrant to take possession of the car before I can get this mess straightened out with DT tomorrow morning as soon as their office opens. This is not the first time that DT has had issues with receiving my payments and then "finding" the error that wouldn't allow me to even make partial payments. Their customer service reps are not very knowledgeable or helpful and don't seem to follow through with sending the required documentation to modify my loan.

I purchased a car through Drive Time 3 years ago. It was an awesome experience. Everyone inside was extremely nice and worked fast to get me into the car I wanted. Now I am looking for something bigger and I have tried for the last 6 months to find a car and dealership to trade for. I recently found out the Drive time is making a ton of money off of me and my car. In fact instead of my car loan going down it seems to have tripled. I finally tried to do some research as to why this is happening not on do they charge a daily interest fee, but the monthly payments that are made 80 percent goes to equity.
I have cried so much over this. I pay $400 a month which easily equals over $4,000 a year. My problem is not the payments. My problem is 3 years later it seems as if I am paying $50 a month. I just want to go and park the car at the dealership and give it back. If anyone knows any way that I can get out of this please let me know! My car is worth $2300 and I owe over $11,000 now. Please anyone!!

I started a review with DriveTime at a 5 star 3 weeks ago. More recently I have become more and more disappointed with the Aeverex warranty company. 3 weeks ago my car had bad rotors and Aeverex went back and forth with Midas to fix my car. Finally it was fixed. Now my air conditioning is completely gone. All of these issues before 1 month's time. I had a car with Drive here and it was pure hell for 90 days until the car got into an accident. They refused to fix it but kept calling for money. DriveTime was (is) helpful in a sense of trying to repair credit. It just hurts that I am in a luxury vehicle and I am having all of these issues, and it hasn't been a full month yet. I am beginning to wonder if DriveTime is trying to get over on people that struggle. I don't know if the a/c is covered under the warranty or not. It's beginning to become depressing.
Hello Christopher, we apologize for any concerns you have had with your vehicle. We are pleased to see you have been in contact with Aeverex regarding these concerns. Rest assured our vehicles undergo a thorough multipoint inspection to meet and exceed national safety standards. However, with a used vehicle we are unable to determine when a new failure will occur in the future. A Vehicle Protection Plan is also offered to assist with un-anticipated repairs (does include some AC/Climate components) that occur after sale, but it does not cover all repairs. Please give us some time to research your account, and a Customer Relations Representative will contact you to discuss your concerns. If you would like immediate assistance, you can call Customer Relations at 888-290-0148. Sincerely, Customer Relations

On March 18th of 2015 I went into a DriveTime dealership. They advertise being able to assist with low credit situations in which they GUARANTEE vehicle approval based on income. I feel that ever since I set foot into the dealership I was steered the wrong way due to a desperate situation. I am a new father with a 5 week old newborn. We needed a safe vehicle prior to delivery of our newborn. They preyed on me in this situation and gave me like a 28% interest rate on a 2008 Nissan Rogue. Prior to purchase KBB stated vehicle was valued at about $10,000 which DriveTime purchased at auction. Vehicle had previous accidents in which the AUTOCHECK report was designed to not tell you all about the accidents.
LONG STORY SHORT, I was sold a vehicle at around 22% interest but only after providing $2200 cash down. The payments are costing me a whopping $430 per month on a 2008 Nissan rogue!!! Do not go with this company! If DriveTime would like to actually assist me in resolving this matter then I will gladly mark case resolved. Otherwise stay away everyone! They will take advantage of you and your situation. They're quick to repossess too and they will call you a million times the day after a payment due date. They have also violated do not call lists multiple times in which I could sue for. Just notice on my photo attachments there is proof what my starting principal amount was in march compared to now. I have only paid $500 towards principal balance in over 6 months?!?!?!

Overall I have been satisfied with DriveTime with their service their ability to get me into a car quickly and with my vehicle however I am frustrated with their level of customer service with this particular issue. Due to having no credit and my amount of downpayment and the car I had previously wanted and been approved for having been sold they found me another vehicle I could afford. The day I purchased my vehicle and I did the walk around inspection with the sales advisor And I noticed a decent crack in my serpentine belt, and there was a ticking sound during the test drive. I did bring these issues to the sales advisor’s attention. She informed me and reassured me That all the vehicles they sell go Through rigorous inspections and the crack in the belt looked like a spot where the manufacturer had connected the two ends of the belt! (Because there were marks that resembles staples or something similar.)
I told her that of course I was not a mechanic but had changed a few belts in my time and never had seen a belt put together that way and with the ticking sound present it made sense to me that the belt had an issue in that spot. So she basically said if she heard any noise they couldn't sell me the car and that left only one other car in my price range. But continued to reassure me that it had been thoroughly inspected and they weren't allowed to sell a vehicle with any issues. So I put my better judgement in the back of my mind reassuring myself that this was a well-known dealer and if there was an issue that they would fix it when it came up since I had brought it to their attention.
Within three weeks of owning the car the ticking sound grew and as a busy single mom of three I thought I would wait until I had a day off to take it in since I had the thirty day warranty and it was Not up, never realizing I had exceeded the 1500 miles on the other end of that warranty. I contacted the dealer who referred me to the warranty company who then sent me to a local mechanic shop. They did say they charged half off an inspection because I was a DriveTime customer but since I was within my thirty day warranty usually the warranty company covers that cost. Upon doing the inspection they informed me that the "crack where the sales advisor said it looked like the belt had been put together and assured me it was fine" was actually missing a huge chunk out of the belt on the reverse side.
Since I had exceeded 1500 driving miles I would need to pay the fifty dollars to get my car back. I did pay it and then proceeded to DriveTime where I purchased the vehicle. I spoke with the general manager who was very friendly and kind and understood my frustration. He did in fact admit that the issue had been brought up during the walkthrough during my purchase of the vehicle. He then called consumer services with the corporate office and explained the situation to them. They agreed to reimburse me for the cost and labor of a new belt but would not reimburse me for the cost of the diagnostic to the mechanic. I understand their reasoning in that I paid for a diagnostic and that service was rendered but they completely ignored my point! It was a diagnostic that I should not have had to pay for because it was an issue that was noticed and they were informed of at the time I purchased the vehicle!!
Had they actually had a mechanic look at the belt as they said they do, "rigorously inspect" they would've noticed it just as I had! As a customer it was very easy for me to hear the ticking sound and locate the exact spot where it was coming from and while the manager and consumer services both acknowledge and admit that they were at fault they still will not reimburse me for a cost I incurred due to their inability to address a very apparent issue! They sold me a car with an issue, acknowledge that I brought up the issue and followed the correct processes but still don't care that I'm out the fifty dollars I paid to have the mechanic tell me what I and they already knew!!! It's frustrating because as a single mom with three kids I tried to avoid purchasing a car with any issues because I simply cannot afford repairs.
I went to a well-known dealer and got and paid for a warranty that didn't cover an issue that the dealer was aware of when they sold me the vehicle!! I feel that a simple solution would have been easily reached, offer me the cost of the diagnostic that was unnecessary or even half the cost and replace the crappy belt they sold the car to me with and keep a customer happy! That equals not only a happy customer but more than likely a return customer and referrals! Fifty dollars! Or like I said even half! Something! For the cost the inconvenience and their people ignoring a simple issue! I now have had to replace the belt, pay for a diagnostic for a problem we were all aware of and I was reassured wasn't an issue and DriveTime’s people just want me to eat the cost!
It's frustrating and as a customer it's disappointing. Other than this I have been happy with DriveTime but for God’s sake if you want to keep customers and keep them happy and you know there is an issue you were made aware of before the sale of your vehicle that can cost the customer More money, time, and inconvenience do something to show customer appreciation and responsibility.

Had an F150, loved it despite the over finance and hidden 10k add on fees from the online site. Ran good for the most part, took care of it. Truck started shaking on the highway leaking oil while running, then all out keeled over in a matter of days after 6 months. Towed it to a shop and after a week have been told the warranty I have will be denied since I've paid cash for maintenance with no receipts from a service shop because the oil was low after the breakdown. Read the fine print.

I bought a car from DriveTime Feb 2015 and a week later I was already having issues in which my car had to be put in the shop. It was within the first month so my warranty covered the repairs. Since then I have had to replace all my tires because the ones the car came with bubbled up within a few months. Now, it has been 6 month into me buying this car and I'm having major issues.
I took it to their recommended repair shop and was told my exhaust had rusted and has a hole in it. My car is virtually unable to be driven. I also was told the 02 sensors are messed up. The total estimated costs of these new repair issues have been more than $4,300 in which they are not covering over warranty. I have always paid on time and I have also done all the routine maintenance necessary on this car. When I have spoken with customer service I have been given the runaround as well as been told I would be called back but no one has. I've also been hung up on when I've asked to speak with a manager.

Well it all started when I went on their lot looking for a car that was newer than the one I had which was a 1995 mustang convert, GT in great condition. Salesman came out and we went in and seen what we could do on a trade in. They give me 1500 dollars on the trade. They told me what they could put me in for my kind of payments. At first things were looking good with the selection of cars they had but as the hours went by the selection went from a lot to 3 or 4. I ended up getting into a vehicle and drove it home 80 miles away from the place I bought it from, in Texas. Before I got home all the check engine lights were on and it died on me 3 times that night.
I called them the next morning and they told me to put it in the shop. I told them I have not the time to do so because I had to travel that next day, THAT'S why I bought a car I thought they sold me that was good for these trips. Well they told me to bring it back reminding me I can't go over 300 miles or they would charge a 1.00 a mile I said... So I brought the car back to them and they took me out of the car and I traveled with the salesman 70 miles down the road to get another car like I just had same year. Well by the time we made it back to the car lot it was getting dark. They told me to put everything into the new car they got me so I did. 30 minutes later the manager came out and told me that the car was not sellable to me because of my down payment. He need 3000.00 dollars more... Can you believe that? I was shocked... wasted my whole day at this crappy ass place.
Don't go there guys. Trust me guys don't waste your time. So I ended up in the same car they sold me the first time and I'm stuck with the pile of **. What kind of place are you guys running down there??? And don't tell me you're SORRY for this - do something about it and let all these readers know that someone gives a hoot about us... Anyone that wants to know the place of this car lot let me know.

My daughter purchased a 2014 Jeep Patriot from Drive Time two weeks ago. Here are all my complaints. She overpaid. The car was $14,000 before fees, warranty and taxes. The car which is only a year old had 100,000 miles at time of purchase. Who sells a car with that kind of mileage after one year? And who takes advantage of a naive 20 year old. Shame on Drive Time. The interest rate is 20 percent. I went to two local Chrysler jeep dealers in the Phoenix area. They both told me my daughter was ripped off and the car is only worth $8000 with that kind of mileage. The dealers also had 2014 Patriots with 70,000 less miles listed for the price my daughter paid but for 100,000. The car has manual locks and windows. Total cost of ownership for the car after 66 payments will be $31,000. A lot of money for a car that won't even be running then because it had so many miles.
Drive Time clearly took advantage of my daughter. A 20-year ok'd who didn't know what she was doing or understand what it all meant. I wasn't with her because I live in Florida. I am thoroughly disgusted. Drive Time should not be in business. They are a disgrace to honesty, integrity and business. They overcharge and under deliver. Help me advance my mission of educating and preventing people from purchasing cars from Drive Time. And take action against Drive Time for its unscrupulous business practices. I purchased a car at DriveTime because of my credit situation. I was thrilled when approved but quickly became angry when the expiration date to my temporary tag quickly approached. When I asked numerous people when to expect my registration or who can I speak to with regards to who knows the responses I got were, I don't know. I asked if I get a ticket because my tag is expired what is going to happen, the response, "that's a good question, I don't know". Go somewhere else with a bigger down payment just so you won't have to deal with a headache. I even contacted NY DMV to see if the hold up was on their end. The vin # wasn't in the system under my name, so DMV couldn't help me either. So here I am with a car I'm paying an interest rate just as high as the price of the car and I can't even drive it.

I bought a Ford Fusion from them last year and then shortly after lost my job. They hounded me at least 4-5 times a day with calls from different numbers (I have all the messages saved). Finally, I asked for a loan modification which they were all too happy to give me. It's too bad that they never once mentioned their amazing interest rate of 69.71%! My daily interest rate is 11 and change! Now my car is worth 10,000 more than it's actually worth and I'm stuck making payments that will literally never even see my actual principal.

I started leading with DriveTime in early June. My experience in their shop went really well and I thought I can trust these people. They seemed to care about my well-being and the concerns I presented them with when I decided to give them my business. This couldn't be further from the truth. By the end of the month I had to replace the battery, costing me $100. By July, I heard grinding whenever I applied the brakes. I made them aware of both scenarios, to see if they could offer any assistance since it hadn't even been two full months and I'm having some pretty big challenges. I got NOTHING. The brake repair cost me another $511. My down payment was $800. I've invested THOUSANDS of dollars in a vehicle I'll never own. This company just doesn't seem fair or care about their customer. Purchased a 2006 Explorer SUV from DriveTime. They put it in the shop for service, inspection and battery replacement before we took delivery. A few days later the check engine light came on and there was slippage among few other things. The first visit they repaired what seemed wrong as well as the other items on the list. 3 days later the light came back on and we took it back. The repair shop told Averex what was wrong and they sent out an inspector who took more than the allotted time to respond to the request. I will say the repair shop advocated for us because Averex did not want to approve the appropriate repairs. In the end Averex had to send a transmission and a catalytic converter to the repair shop to replace the faulty parts.
I know this was a stall as it's been 3 weeks they've held up my vehicles repair. As it was within the 30 days I was not going to take possession of the vehicle until all requested repairs were addressed and completed. Still waiting today for the completion. It does not garner trust in the company for patron safety. The repair shop is FORD so I will pay for an independent inspection of the replacement parts. I want to ensure my family's safety is not compromised by their business practices. I thought I was getting involved with a caring company. However, I am not naive to the notion of business health before consumer safety.

My credit rating is not good so purchased a car from DriveTime in Houston, Texas. To be honest, the purchasing experience was ok. I needed a car, they needed to sell the 20% interest loan. Nobody twisted my arm, the sales team was very pleasant and accommodating. I chose not to buy the extended warranty, it made the bi-monthly payment even more obscene than it already was at 20% interest. Two weeks after I had the car it started leaking oil, a lot of oil. I had the crankshaft seal, harmonic balancer, and drive belt replaced under the dealer warranty which was included with the purchase of the car. I was pleased with the the process. Since the initial crankshaft seal, harmonic balancer and drive belt replacement I have had the same parts replaced at my expense 4 times by two different shops at close to $400 each time. GM repair protocol for the crankshaft seal calls for replacement of the harmonic balancer and drive belt each time.
Why does the same seal continue to fail? I called the dealer, they seemed very uninterested in helping me with this, after all I had no extended warranty coverage. The mechanics at both shops advised that it is an internal problem with the crankshaft and that repair would cost at minimum $3000. 3 weeks ago the timing chain broke, the engine is ruined. This car only has 65,000 miles on it! There was 55,000 miles on the odometer when I bought it. It's been a terrible car to own, not what I expected or can afford to have happen. Buyers, please beware, my DriveTime car has no more drive time.

Have been doing business with them for more than five years, two vehicles & was on to my third until in the beginning I was told that DT credit will help my original credit score. Complete **. I'm at the dealership talking to a representative in Fort Worth TX, and they were trying to force me into a vehicle I did not want instead of giving me what I wanted in which even though being a long existing customer and a "Gold Pass Member" (what a joke) still needed a down payment for what I wanted. Their in house DT credit is of no use even if you pay your bill and don't give any problems.
They still basing off your credit score and WILL NOT base off of DT credit. They will give you many reasons instead of the truth. Their ad on the commercial is totally false & the customer relations department is not your side. Totaled dept. Manager Lenna is perhaps the only person in DriveTime that will go out of her way to try and help you in which is a shame. THEY NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE HER! When I called corporate and explained I was basically told that I could get a vehicle somewhere else. WTF, REALLY? After being a loyal customer for so long they tell me this. DRIVETIME LOST a loyal "GOLD PASS" or whatever they call you customer.

I inquired about a loan modification on my DriveTime loan and received two messages from a DriveTime representative saying they had good news about my request. When I returned the call I was told the representative was new and should not have told me I was approved. When I filed a complaint with BBB asking that DT in good faith honor what I was told DT continued to ask for medical receipts so I can prove to them that I'm deserving of a loan modification. I provided receipts but they say they are not good enough and are not willing to show good faith. If a representative from a company makes a promise a reputable company would stand behind it. DT refuses to stand behind their word.

I didn't get a chance to drive either vehicle at least a week total and DriveTime unconcerned staff could care less as long as they have their money. So I currently have no transportation and they taking their time about getting my repairs. Do not buy a car from DriveTime. Biggest regret of my life!!!

I am currently leasing a vehicle from DriveTime located in Las Vegas. After only driving the vehicle for about 30 days and just in the Vegas area I needed to take a trip to California to pick up my son. The trip took about 3 hrs and my car seemed to be just fine. After I reached my destination my car immediately broke down on me. After speaking to the DriveTime they didn't show much concern to my situation just suggested I call the warranty company for assistance. Come to find out my transmission needs to be replaced and if the warranty didn't cover it I would be held responsible for the repair fees. I was then stranded in California with my son.
I spoke with DriveTime reps from the location where I got the vehicle.. They showed ZERO compassion. One man even stated with a bit of a laugh.. "Well you might wanna get the money from friends or family, because we can't help you." I'm now stuck paying for a vehicle that I cannot currently drive nor even in the same city or state. Bottom Line DriveTime will help you get into a vehicle.. but if you experience any mechanical issues and need some type of assistance to compensate you... Well I just hope you got friends & family nearby, you're going to need them.

I purchase the car and 3 1/2 weeks later the change oil light came on and off so we checked it. There was oil and then I took it to Sears where DriveTime said I get 1 year free of oil change and the guy at Sears said I had to call DriveTime to get it approve and check the vault to see it was time for the change. I called DriveTime and they said they didn't know how to help so they transfer me to mechanical department. And no answer. I attempt several time and my 30-day just pass by. And I was driving on the FWY at night and all of a sudden my car makes a loud noise and my engine light came on, oil light came on, and stood. I pulled over and had my car tow home and paid out of pocket.
They were suppose to reimburse me but they said, "Not now." I also had to pay for a rental and a additional tow. They are suppose to supply me these feature and they first want to diagnose the car and I have to copay and a deductible of $100. I believe that this car started giving me problems from the began. They should either refund my money back or give a new car that runs right. No new car you lease should break down in 34 days, not even motor. Help. What step do I need to fix now? I have no car at this time. If I want a new car I need to put more money down.

Then we drive it and the air condition is not working. HERMAN replies, "Oh, it's normal. It has been sitting since you purchased it two weeks ago." We test drive, it drives fine... it wasn't until we got on the road or off the road 5 hours later is when we noticed that there was a grinding noise coming from engine. The drop of oil that was in there was black, sounds familiar from reading the reviews. We get home at 2 am and lo and behold there is no oil in the car and the air condition hoses are frozen solid.

The pricing on the vehicles when I initially bought my car were what I thought decently priced, I was wrong once I had already purchased my car. What they charge for a warranty is absolutely outrageous. I understand everyone has their price, but if you are young or don't know anything about cars please do not go to DriveTime. I am currently stuck with a little piece of crap car that has been nothing but problems, I have already put over $600-$700 into this car on top of my $300+ car payment... I'm sorry but for the quality that they say they have on that lot, no one should have to deal with any problems for awhile... Not one even one year into the lease like I am dealing with currently. I am just beyond fed up. I rather have a repo on my credit than to pay them a dime. But that's a choice I have to make. Very disappointed in the quality of the cars and the amount they charge for warranties and extras.
Hi Brittany, we are sorry that you are unhappy with the pricing of your vehicle financing. I called customer service and they assured me they would have all accounts added back to the credit bureaus by February. I called again to customer service and was told my information was sent and to give it a couple of weeks. I have called every month and promised they would fax my report that day to the bureau. It is now August and my payment history has still not been sent.
I called the last week of July and was told this time that they had not sent all of their accounts yet. Totally different story than what I have been told the last 7 months. I was told to wait now until August 30th. I have never been a day late on my payments and was assured they reported my payments. This is ridiculous, poor service and I advise anyone not to purchase a car from DriveTime expecting them to report your credit history.

DriveTime opened a new location in my town (where I am on several board and a teacher!) and I looked and bought a 2008 Audi. There was a checklist left in car and it was not given an oil change (I found that in glove compartment the next day). I went back and they said I had to call corporate. I tried. Then I had a brake problem immediately and no help. I called, and even went online to chat and they did not even want to help. Now my check engine light came on too (not even 4K miles). They do not stand behind their warranty company as I said I am not paying the $1000 deductible for brakes when it was immediately and I'm not paying for another oil change (I did one immediately when light came on because I could not wait for them).
In addition, they print out tons of paperwork with everything under the sun you don't need. Also, I called to put down more money to get my interest rate down and they do not honor that any longer! I am online now to see who I can write and contact for predatory lending, fraud, etc.! I'm also emailed all of my local news agencies and I live in a great market. I will tell everyone I know to drive just 4 miles either way to Auto Lenders or CarSense if this is not taken care of! Right now I'll just take my deposit back and you take the car off my credit (you can keep the $200 Audi mats I bought) and all the payments. I'm just done. Horrible experience!

DriveTime resolved this issue.
Original Review: Aug. 10, 2015
Leased a car through DriveTime on Independence Blvd in Charlotte, NC on August 4th. Today is August 10th, the brakes started squeaking and the car is idling rough, so I thought I would check the oil just to be safe. The oil is almost completely out! With it being a smart car I had to peruse the owner's manual to not only find out where the engine was but how to check the oil. The other fluids are under the front of the car that is proving difficult for me to get to. The car was not detailed nor was it "inspected" as DriveTime states in their "guarantee". The engine has so much filth on it that if any one had inspected it you would be able to tell. I am a disabled Veteran and in college trying to get my nursing degree. My salesman, Mark, is a Veteran, as well as, Adam, the manager. I called Adam this morning and he was nothing more than apathetic to my plight and acted as if it was my fault for not inspecting the car before leasing it!
I am sick to my stomach to think that fellow Veterans would do this to another Vet, and one that is disabled! If this is the kind of customer service I can expect from DriveTime and Aeverex then I want no part of them. I have a good mind to return the vehicle today! I have called the BBB and North Carolina Attorney General's office to file a complaint.

If I could give no stars I would. Spent 6 pm to 10 pm at the location in Denver right after work on 8-7-2015 and they didn't have anything but two lease vehicles in the $895 down category that were something. That wasn't my style so they took me to the other location. I saw a 2006 Chevy cobalt I really liked and we came back with the car and started the process. After making the payment they gave me papers concerning a recall pertaining to the ignition and one other thing that was claimed to be an easy fix.Iif that was the case so I thought ok I could run over to gm the next morning if it was an easy fix and went ahead and filled out the paperwork to drive my new car home.
I went home and the first problem started. I tried turning off the car. Music was still playing so I assumed maybe you just have to open the door for it to fully shut off. Didn't seem the case. Tried it again and took the key out and the car was still operable without the key?! After several attempts and panicking I was finally able to shut it off. I was pissed from the get go and went to research this car further and came to find out even after the fixes this car is a DEATH TRAP and after reading that I knew this wasn't the car for me and my 5 year old to be riding in.
So today 8-8-15 at 9 am the opening of business I told them I wanted to return the car back because I did not feel safe. Did not even have the car a full day not even 15 miles driven on the car and the 895 I paid they were to take $200 for "restocking fee". When asking about my money back which I paid for with a debit card they couldn't even give my 695 back upfront and that I have to wait 7-10 business days and go back over there to get the check.
I wasn't going to review anything but I was just so ticked that after telling them this car is a hazard basically I can't get my full amount back without even really even having the car for a long period of time. Now I have to regain that back. There are other places that will work with people that have bad credit that are in the rebuilding status that won't give you a suicidal car. I will take my business elsewhere. After my mom had a decent experience with a DriveTime I thought I would have the same but that's not the case. Chad was really nice but couldn't even look me in the face this morning. Tragic.

I paid my loan off on time, no late payments. 2004 Ford Expedition - good truck. We still own it. However all 3 of the credit reporting agencies no longer reflect my positive history. They all claim DriveTime removed it. I only paid it off in Nov 2013. I have been unable to get anyone at DriveTime to respond since the loan is closed and paid.
Updated on 9/23/2015 - I called and spoke with customer service and they said they would reinstate it with Equifax but could do nothing about TransUnion or Experian. I called TransUnion and was told all that had to happen was the creditor re-report the loan. I explained that DriveTime said they were not allow to re-report it to them and I was stuck in the middle. I was told that DriveTime should contact their marketing dept. (They don't do business with us was the implied statement so you're out of luck unless they do).
Then I ask for a supervisor and was told they could if they called the maintenance line. I called DriveTime back and I reached a woman who admitted they no longer did business with TransUnion or Experian. They did all they were going to do for me and tough if I didn't like it! She was so disrespectful and had no sympathy for my issue at all (Do you want the address for an attorney to write us?). Wow. I will never do business with this company or recommend anyone else if this is how they handle a problem. It started with them being sued and in effort to correct the customers harmed by the reporting errors they deleted all accounts. Thus harming all those who paid on time and fulfilled their obligations. 54 months of positive credit history gone because 2 large companies have a business dispute and neither could care less!

After looking around the lot, there were not many SUVs in inventory. I ended up having to get a Honda sedan. Not my preference but somewhat satisfactory. When the finance person finished calculating the numbers, I ended up spending over $20,000 on a 2008 vehicle with over 90,000 miles. Minus the mileage, that seems like the cost of a new car. DriveTime advertises low monthly rates with affordable down payments. I didn't find that to be the case at all especially since my payments are $467.00/month. I into I've been ripped off. We have purchased two cars from DriveTime. Worst mistake ever. Not only do they charge an unreasonable interest rate on their car loans, both of our cars leak like crazy when it rains. Our current car leaks substantially through the floor as well as the sunroof. What do they do to their cars that causes them to leak? I can understand one car but BOTH cars leak. They make you pay for extras like extended warranty and don't give you an option to decline, making your payment even higher. Not to mention, the extended warranty doesn't cover much and actually getting repairs done under the warranty is like pulling teeth. I will never use their company again... We have paid our car for 2 years and have barely made a dent in the principal.
The first car, we were lucky to get out of by purchasing a brand new car (the Ford dealership was very generous with trade in). We went from a 2006 DriveTime car to a brand new 2014 Ford Fusion for just $50 a month more through Capital One. This tells you how much DriveTime takes unfair advantage of their customers. My advice? Try financing through Capital One and going through a reputable dealer. I am now stuck with an old car that has peeling paint, leaks like a sieve, randomly shuts off as you're driving down the highway... proverbial piece of crap. Someone needs to shut them down for selling bad quality vehicles.

Told him I was not pressed for a vehicle and could put a larger down payment but lost my business by not being honest.

I bought a car a year and a half ago. It doesn't show anywhere on my credit that I've ever purchased a car? Every time I call they say "next month it will appear. Don't worry!" It's been 5 months. What's going on? I can't trade the POS in until it shows on my credit report. This needs to be fixed. If not, come get your POS car. I will never use them again. EVER!

I began a lease 2/9/15. I called a month later and expressed that I plan on keeping the truck the 30 months and just owning it after the lease was over. 7/14/15 it broke down on my way to work. I had it towed at my expense to the local garage after calling Aeverex and getting approval to have it looked at. After a little over 2 weeks. DriveTime has decided they will not invest in the repairs of the vehicle. There is no compression. The motor needs replaced. I was told by DriveTime lease department to go into the dealership to get placed in another vehicle at no cost. I showed up to be told that it will cost me another $2000 plus to get into another vehicle.
With the lease there is a 2000 mile a month allowance. When I expressed that I plan on keeping the vehicle I was told by the sales guy that I can drive it like I own it. I explained that I do travel from time to time. If the vehicle was still running the mileage wouldn't be a factor. Due to the repairs not being approved they now are! I did not end my lease due to returning the vehicle or stopping payment. The company breached the lease by not holding their end and repairing it or replacing it.

I had leased out a vehicle from them back in February 2015. It ended up in the shop 2 weeks ago and has been there with a blown motor. They refuse to fix it but want to charge me 2000 for the mileage before they give me another vehicle. After they told me when I first got it that if I am going to keep it then I can drive it like I own it. I don't believe anyone should go through them. They are a joke. I made payments on it while it was sitting at the shop waiting for someone to make a decision about it.

Purchased a 2010 Chevy Traverse, April 29th, 2015. 31 days later 1 day outside covered repairs, Problems start on the car. Not to mention the fact that there was no transmission fluid in the car during pre-inspection. It had to have $1300 worth of repairs before I could even buy the car. I was guaranteed it wasn't a leak but that I was checking the fluid level wrong (but I wasn't). Then back to the 31 day problems. Check engine light comes on and gas mileage goes from 20 to 13 mpg. Had to have new timing assembly replaced. Warranty covered it so I let it go now that it spent a week in the shop for that.
3 weeks later Check engine light on again - Then called to make complaint. Was told as long as warranty will cover it they wont do anything about it. Well the car made a loud noise - stopped moving. Had to have it towed. Warranty company wants to put transmission from junkyard in the car instead of new or rebuilt and they are still "reviewing" the repair. Biggest scam artist out there is DriveTime and their Avirex Warranty is even worse. Never buy a car from them. They prey on people with not so perfect credit and then stick it to you.

I bought my truck in March. First week of June I almost ran off the road when I had to put the brakes on going down the interstate. Called the warranty company and they told me where to take it. Turns out I had warped rotors and my brakes were at less than 5%! How can you sell a vehicle like this? It cost me over $400 to fix just the front because warranty said it wasn't covered. Now after complaining for almost 2 months I have yet to be reimbursed or even been offered an apology for the truck not being inspected before the sale. I could've been killed.

I purchased a vehicle from DriveTime through the leasing program June 12, 2015. The vehicle ride really rough and going over a simple road bump it seemed as if the vehicle was going to fall apart. So to make a long story short, I took the vehicle to have it checked and they found the struts, shocks, and ball joints was really bad and the vehicle needed a front end alignment and all that would cost me $1,745 to have fixed which is more then I put down on the vehicle. So I called the warranty department only to be told that none of that was covered under warranty. So then I called DriveTime off of North Freeway in Houston, Texas and got bounced around to different people on the phone.
So after speaking to several people at DriveTime the call ended with me speaking to someone in Customer Relations who told me that they could have it approved to be fixed although it wasn't covered under warranty and to call the place I took the vehicle to and ask them to file a claim. So I did that and the owner told me that he wouldn't fix it through the warranty because he have had problems with the warranty company that DriveTime use before. Mind you, I had to pay $37.50 for this shop to just look at the vehicle. So I called back to DriveTime and of course you have to run down the problem again because you are speaking to someone different who have no knowledge as to what's going on again.
I was then bounced around from call to call only to be told to take the vehicle to another shop. Because I live in Beaumont, Texas there is no in-network shop so I'm free to take it to any license shop here. So I take the vehicle to the second shop only to have to pay $40.00 to be told the same problems the first shop told me. The second shop agreed to file the claim and work with the warranty but it's been an ongoing problem because none of it is covered under warranty. I work two jobs. I do Hospice during the day which requires me to drive from patient to patient homes and work at a Nursing Home. I have been off of work from my day job since July 23, 2015 because the shop suggested for me to not drive the vehicle because he stated if the ball joints goes out while I'm driving it could cause a accident and possibly get hurt.
So as of today, July 28, 2015, the vehicle is still at the shop and I still haven't been able to work my day job and I'm still waiting on a response. I have a payment coming up on July 31, 2015 that will not be paid until this vehicle is fixed. I refuse to let them take payments out of my bank account on a vehicle I am not driving and can't enjoy because of all the problems with it. So yeah, as of now, all I can do is wait to see if it will be approved to be fixed! SAD.. SAD!!!

I went to DriveTime of Mechanicsville to get a car after recently relocating. The sales advisors were very communicative before I came to them and during my time at the dealership, emailing and calling to assist in getting together all require documentation and walking me through the process with full transparency. All of the sales advisors were courteous and accommodating while I was at the dealership and I got the car I wanted - a 2010 Acura TL.
With less than stellar credit, I'm begrudgingly okay with the financing options and look forward to using this loan to help get my credit back in good shape. They do give some options to get my APR down within the first 60 days, so I'm going to look into those options and see what I can do. I would've given 5 stars if the car would've been cleaned and detailed like any new purchase should be, whether it's new or used.

I asked what happens to the $3600 I had already invested in it; they said I would just lose it. I told them that was unacceptable. They began leaving me voicemails that my vehicle had frame damage. However, my car history report says no damage. Then they refused to take my payment and stole it from me one early morning. I have emails and voicemails to prove all of the above. I only want back the money I put in it.

I leased a car from them in May 2015 which I was told the vehicle was inspected and safe for the road. Two days later the check engine light came on and the car had a loud humming noise, the brakes and gas pedal had loose jerking feeling when press down. I called the warranty company and got permission to take to a certified car repair shop. By the time the appointment day the check engine light was no long on but the humming noise and brakes gas pedal problem was still there.
To make a long story short the vehicle needed an alternator, alternator pulley, belts, power steering pump, brake pads, brake rotors, caliper for breaks, oil change, the trunk had a river flowing in it after rain, the back right brake light kept blowing out and the a/c unit need new compressor. Remind you all this was detected less than 30 days after leasing this vehicle. If this vehicle was honestly inspected for safe driving how a vehicle have some many major repairs? And their review rate is high because they have customers write reviews before they leave the car lot. What customer not happy we told they are getting a car. Go back and follow up on their reviews and see what the rate will be. Not an honest used car sales business. They have people on the roads driving in unsafe vehicles.

The moment I mention that this fool was my fiance they immediately jump to a domestic dispute that needs to be settled in court.
I don't have an issue with him, all I want him to do is make the payments so they can stop harassing me. I'm a full time student on limited income. My ex has a steady paycheck and a decent paying job. Instead of helping the both of us out he takes his money and squanders it on trivial things. I've been insulted by these people over and over again every time I talk to them!
To make matters worse, they have resulted to contacting me on Facebook about the car. Who does that? Sallie Mae hasn't even stooped so low to do such a thing. I called corporate to complain about them messaging me on Facebook to be insulted further that I shouldn't have cosigned if I couldn't pay. In May I started to have problems with the car. It started as me coming out to my car to move parking spots and it wouldn't start. After two minutes the car started no problem so I dismissed the problem.
The second time this happened was about two weeks later. I turned my car off to pump some gas and tried to start it back up. After about 5 minutes the car started back up. I called DriveTime with my concerns and was told to consult Aeverex, the warranty company. Aeverex advised me to take the car to Meineke to be looked at. Meineke was unable to diagnose the problem and I had to pay a $100 deductible for them to even look at the car.
Since then the problem has gotten progressively worse. None of my dashboard lights are on and the car is not giving out any error codes. The car constantly turns off after just short periods of driving. The car has turned off several times WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY and I've almost lost my life because of it. But I need the car as it’s my only transportation to work. I've had to get the car towed twice to my home and pay out of pocket for it.
DriveTime refuses to place my family and I in another vehicle and refuses to fix the problem with my car. Each time I call in the DriveTime I am constantly transferred from person to person, getting empty promises to resolve the issue and notate my account. But each representative that I've spoken with made sure to remind me of my past due balance. I refuse to continue to pay $224 every two weeks for a car that is NOT working and the company refuses to accommodate me. I am also filing a report with the Better Business Bureau as well as getting an attorney.

In 2003, I purchased a 2005 Chevy Impala. My contract was 14,000 plus at 29%. I didn’t know anything about buying cars but needed one bc where I lived. My earnings were low and was considered a risk by not having a co-signer or enough history. DT gave me this chance. Funny how people are willing to give advice after you make a BIG mistake but not when you ask for help. I was told several times that I was being ripped off. What to do... Too late... I tried to keep my word and pay it off. Got 2 sm jobs but then ran into car trouble and lost one main job but continued to pay until I got laid off the other. I relocated in order to find work. I was 2 months behind. One problem I noticed that my balance wasn’t adding up even before I relocated. I had gotten a job which helped me pay on time until I needed another repair. I got too far behind 4 months. In that month I finally got a FT job that could help me catch up.
I was told to make a payment of 800 and I will be able to keep the car. LIES. The car got repo'd. I was mad but glad that the car was not stolen but with DT and in great shape because I made sure to take care of it. But sure as hell didn’t want a repo. SMH. Anyway, it was sold and all that but now I am stuck with a balance of 5541 according to my credit report. It should be less. I had gotten conflicting letters, calls, and info about whether or not I owe this balance due to some settlement. The balance was taken off my credit reports a year ago but appeared back on this debt, is back on all 3 cred reports again. The repo happened 2-3 yrs ago and still has not been settled. Should I get a lawyer to look into this? I just want to be done with this account. Any advice?

Ready to finalize the deal I looked at the numbers and the car they had was $10,950 reviewing it I stated that is not the price listed on the front window of the car. I asked the sales person Jonathon to walk outside with me to show him the car. He said "No." I went a took a picture of the car price and sure enough I was right. The Sales Manager meets me outside the front door and says Jonathon is with another customer and he will help me. Told him about the price and he said it doesn't matter what the sticker price states only what the computer states. I said I would never buy a car more than the sticker price. I am guessing most people will overlook it just because they got the financing.

I couldn't be any unhappier with DriveTime. I purchased a car from your company almost two years ago. I had bad credit at the time, and was desperate to replace my vehicle. I allowed myself to be swindled into buying a car that was horribly overpriced, and that turned out to need repairs to it within months of buying it. The loan terms are an outrage, but I thought I'd be able to refinance it through another company after a year or so. I've since discovered that no other loan company I've been able to find will touch the car because of the excessive amount your company valued it at. All of that, I was willing to let go. My own mistake for trusting your company and not properly checking into the value of the car.
Now a tree branch has fallen on it, damaging the body and destroying the back windshield. My insurance covers it. However I've been informed that I must send the check in to drivetime and have the repairs submitted and approved through you before any work can be done? No one can answer how long the delay there will be before drivetime will send the money from a check that is also mine to pay for the vehicle that I rely on. The vehicle that I was desperate enough to get that I got it through this awful company, at ridiculous rates because I needed it and you'd offer me financing. I want nothing more than to return the car, be free of the loan, and be done with your company. I feel that my situation has been taken advantage of at every turn by Drivetime.
Hi Nicholas, we apologize you are dissatisfied with your DriveTime experience. I purchased a car from DriveTime Lombard on June 1st. Immediately after leaving the dealership I realized that they had bunched roughly $3,000 in additional fees and services that I did not want or need. This included GAP insurance, GPS location services and a third party warranty. Immediately after realizing what had happened I returned to the dealership with all of the forms necessary for canceling these extra fees and refunding my account. In addition to submitting this paperwork to the manager on duty, I also enrolled for autopay on a computer with the sales rep who sold me the car.
On June 27 when my first contractual payment was due, autopay system deducted the necessary amount from my bank account and applied it to my balance. This gave me the impression that everything was working properly and I wouldn't have to manage this account. At the same time the first payment processed, I contacted customer service to ask why the services I canceled on June 1 hadn't been refunded yet because I would like to pay the interest on my new balance rather than the initial balance that was 3k higher, that's a big difference in my opinion. The customer service representative then said she would check and call me back shortly. After roughly four more weeks had passed without a phone call I assumed all was well in refund land.
Today, July 14th, a month and a half after purchasing the car, and four weeks after my first autopay had processed, I received a phone call from DriveTime notifying me that my account was delinquent because there was an error with autopay. I then had to process my payment with the representative over the phone who charged me an additional $4.50 because it wasn't processed using the autopay system that failed me to begin with.
Three things bother me: First, why am I still paying interest on the original balance when it should be roughly $3,000 lower after canceling the services? Second, why should my credit take the hit for an error made by DriveTime's autopay system, I went to DriveTime because I was concerned with my credit to begin with. Everyone knows they make their money taking advantage of people who don't have enough credit to buy a car, but this is taking it even further than that. Third, why would I have to pay a processing fee today? I set up autopay with a representative in your dealership, and it worked perfectly fine to process my first payment.
To add insult to injury, the rep told me she had to cancel my account and make me re-enroll. When I went to do so, I am no longer eligible for autopay because my account was delinquent. This means that I have to wait 48 hours in order to re-enroll, then another two weeks for it to process, which will be too late for my next payment, so I will therefore have to pay processing fees again in order to pay on time because autopay won't be set up yet.
Lastly, when I asked the customer service rep on the phone today to help me figure out why I hadn't been refunded for the cancelled services yet, she told me to hang up, wait a while and call the same number back and ask. She was unable to answer any of my questions or transfer me to someone who would, her only concern was getting my money.
This was a mistake on your end yet I am the one walking away angry about it. You are a massive company, surely a minor processing fee won't put you guys in the red!? Surely you can do something to keep my credit and that of my cosigner from taking a hit on your behalf. I also find it hard to believe that the only way to reach a customer service rep, while on the phone with a customer service rep, is to hang up and call back later. Mistake happen, but accept fault, apologize and do the right thing instead of leaving your customers out to dry like this.

I purchased a car from DriveTime a month ago. The salesperson was friendly, he went above and beyond to find a car, but I decided within the allotted time frame that I did not want to go through with it. I returned the car with the 5-day period, under the 300 mile maximum but they still have not returned my $500 down payment. When I call, the staff is rude and short with me. It has now been 18 business days and still no money. I paid cash and they promised to send a check out within 7 to 10 business days... still nothing!

I have a FICO of 800 and to be honest have had a good FICO for some time. Those of us with good credit take it for granted what those without good credit have to go thru. My partner was suckered into buying a 2008 Nissan with over 100k miles for $20k and a APR of 18%. A year into his loan, he has paid $8k and only paid the loan down $2k. His car payment is $400 every two weeks. I understand high risk means high rate but seriously! And unlike most finance companies that will refinance, DriveTime does not. And because the LTV is so high, there is no way to refinance so you either pay the loan off on your own or let them repo. Just terrible business structure and I hope there will be more oversight to this business!

I bought a Dodge caliber 2009 $9000 from Drivetime April 2014, with the $4000 warranty. The transmission blew within 36 hours. I told Drivetime to just trade my car in for another one since I just bought it. They said it needed to be fixed by Cottman before they could take it back. I then got it fixed at their warrantied mechanic, it took them 6 days. I called the customer service line back and let them know the repairs were done and I'd like to take the car back and get another one. They then told me after the first five days of ownership I'm not allowed to bring it back. So I fought with them about not wanting this car for my family of four who drives a minimum of 120 miles a day. They told me no. Then my intake manifold went out a few weeks later and I was told it also wasn't in my warranty and I would have to pay out of pocket for it. I fought for 6 months to get someone to cover this repair.
Then during that time our tires blew one at a time until I bought 3 tires. So I asked Cottman to check the axles and bearing and whatnot, they just said it needed an alignment. I got the alignment and my tires were still wobbling. Then my blower motor went out for my ac unit so I called again to get that fixed. They said it was approved and I went to Cottman again, they then fixed just a little fan for the ac unit that has now gone out again. Then I started having more transmission problems, went to go to Cottman like the warranty company told me to because it is now only warrantied by Cottman because they put it in. I went to the shop and it was closed down. Then I was told by Avrex, the warranty company, to go to AAMCO because they are Cottman. I went and they wouldn't cover the repair. I then fought with Avrex to cover it through another shop.
We went to Greulich's, they then fixed the transmission but I had to be in a rental car for 16 days because we were waiting for Avrex to sent the transmission. They also told me my tire rods have been bad for a long time and that's why I'm blowing tires. Also another thing not covered by my warranty. Then I got my car back and the intake manifold went out again, so I called Avrex and they told me they never paid for it to be fixed so they wouldn't fix it. Then a week later my car leaked all over my garage and I took it back to Greulich's. They said that it was an internal transmission problem again. So I'm now in a rental car again for who knows how long this time. We don't know who or what will be paying for this problem but it is just more problems in an unsafe car for my family.

I am 4 payments in on my loan. Understanding that I made the mistake rushing into a high interest rate contract with payments I couldn't afford in the first place, I was blinded by desperation and a lot of stress at the time. With that said I see no excuse for the way I've been treated and talked down to for ask questions about possibly lowering my payments to be able to afford them. And after being hung up on several times and transferred back and forth being asked the same questions countless times only to be told there was nothing they would do to change it and if I couldn't afford the payments I "get a better job" or have it repossessed.
Ok it was harsh and a little insulting how the whole process went but then I just wanted to clear up some confusion I had about my down payment and why it was never applied to the loan. Once again I was made out to look stupid and I couldn't do simple math that was clearly done wrong. When customer service realized I wasn't satisfied with their lies and irrelevant explanations I was told they needed more time to look over the contract and I needed to call back later and was hung up on once again before finally giving up because I started to see no one genuinely wanted to help me.

I recently bought a Smart Car Fortwo, 2008 with very low miles, from DriveTime/Central Florida Toyota Scion. I couldn't believe my luck, at first. I just had a wreck and as a recovering cancer patient, I needed a dependable car fast. Cancer almost destroyed my life but it definitely wrecked my credit. I nearly lost my home. Somehow, the salesmen got me financing. I was ready to pay for a cheap car outright but the payments were great and I couldn't believe they got me financing. For that, I am truly grateful. The car is 6 years newer than my old one and the mileage wasn't yet at 47,000.
The honeymoon did not last. The air conditioner didn't work. The salesman informed me that it needed charging but they, DriveTime, were not authorized to work on the Smart Car. They informed me that the Smart Car had a strange configuration due its small size. The front wheel needed to be removed to access the air conditioner and only a Mercedes/Smart Car mechanic was allowed to do that. I live in Kissimmee and the closest service to me is in Maitland. This is a 52 mile round trip. No biggie, I'm thinking. I can just trot down there and get this done. A few days without A/C won't kill me. We close the deal and as I drive off, one of the salesmen stops me to let me know the passenger side tail light is out. It's 10pm and everyone else is gone. So, I drive off in my Smart Car with no passenger tail light. They offered to fix it, just come back tomorrow, no problem.
Instead, I went to the service center in Maitland to let them handle both the A/C and the tail light. Why not have the professionally authorized people handle it? I'll just have DriveTime reimburse me for the tail light. I'll eat the cost of the A/C charge, I thought. Once there, I was informed, by the authorized mechanic, that model Smart Car was never equipped with A/C. There was nothing to charge. It didn't exist. The first line in the description: A/C. Can you explain this to me? They did fix the tail light. And then let me know one of the wheels was slightly bent.
I called the lead salesman and let him know the status of the car; he seemed nonplussed about the absent A/C, which irritated me, to say the least. It upset me that he didn't have a clue about what he was selling. His lack of information was going to have a big effect on me. I told him about the bent wheel and that I wished for them, DriveTime, to pay for that wheel to be straightened. If I have to eat no A/C, okay. I get the "as is," part. Caveat emptor. I could even see "as is" covering a tail light, again, buyer beware. The wheel, I feel, is a different concern. That has to do with my safety and I expected DriveTime to do the right thing and pay for the wheel to be made safe.
The salesman told me he would check with his sales manager and see if, perhaps, they had a company within their work partners who did wheel straightening that they could outsource to. That was a little over 2 weeks ago and since that time, neither the salesman nor the sales manager have returned my phone calls or messages left. No one from DriveTime has reached out to me about this. As it turns out, upon further inspection at the authorized Smart Car service center, the wheel was not bent. The front end needed an alignment.
So, I paid to have that done. I am very disappointed with DriveTime/Central Florida Toyota Scion for the way they do business. The sales people seem very friendly and I am sure that they are nice people but they had no idea what they were talking about. How can you, in all good conscience, sell a car without knowing anything about it but the price? How does a missing tail light go unnoticed? A/C was the first line of the description of the car but instead of doing research, they just pulled some malarky out of thin air. Most egregious, however, most of all I am truly very upset that none of my phone calls were returned. Now that I know what's what about my Smart Car, I have to deal with it. If I lived in a more temperate climate, I'd be in hog heaven. As it is, I feel like a hog driving a roadster.
The complete lack of professionalism, the false statements about A/C, either by ignorance or purposefully by omission, these are the reasons why car salesmen are lampooned so often. Sometimes the stereotypes are true. I would advise against doing business with these people. I give them 2 stars. I would have given them 1 and I would have contacted an attorney but their saving grace was to find me financing with my cancer-decimated credit. I know there was only one company who offered and I am grateful for the opportunity to rebuild my credit and my life. That said, every time I'm locked in traffic in downtown Orlando this summer, I'll regret giving them that extra star.

I purchased my car with DriveTime closing the deal minutes to 8 pm on Monday. 5 am Tuesday same car wouldn't drive claiming transmission overheat. I thought it was a normal glitch. 11 am same Tuesday the car wouldn't start and I still soaked that in. Early Wednesday morning the check engine light came on and continued flashing. So I decided enough was enough and went back to the dealership. An employee came to check the car and guess what? The check engine light was off so they instructed me to call Averex who also directed me to a mechanic close by. I spent all Wednesday at the shop for them to diagnose the problem and suggested that I drop the car on Friday at 8 am and pick it up at 5 pm for the fix. (How ridiculous!!! that would be 2 days out of my first 5 days at the mechanic).
Anyway I was still positive about the deal until the car broke down completely on me that same Wednesday night. After hours of being stranded I finally discovered I had run out of gas even though the car fuel gauge was half tank. Having lost it all, I returned the car to DriveTime on Thursday and they had the guts to withhold $194 from the down payment because of extra mileage for returning the due to mechanical failure. HOW RIDICULOUS. WORST DEALERSHIP EVER.

I bought a Jeep on the June 17th, 2015. Two days later the engine temperate light came on. Made an appointment for the following Tuesday because the shop was busy. Truck broke down Tuesday morning. Asked to be put in another dependable ride. The answer was no. I was on the 6th day and you have 5 days to return it. Keep in mind I was only hours into the 6th day. Truck supposedly fixed on Wed. On the 24th. Yesterday the 28th, truck broke down same issue. It doesn't matter that I've had the truck less than 2 weeks and it started having problems on day 2. They take your money and they don't care about customer service..
If this truck was truly checked out like the company states, why would I have problems this early on? Nobody wants to acknowledge the inconvenience, the stress and embarrassment of being stranded. They just want to put a bandaid on it until your warranty runs out. Since nobody seems to hear me maybe the local news can find out their processes. This is a scam. I'm beyond disappointed.

I purchased a car from DriveTime last April and I first want to say that they were fair in letting me put a small down payment to get the car was great; however I am just not really satisfied with the fact that I have to pay on a 2007 car for 5 years that had over 70,000 miles on it. Yes they did offer me an extended warranty, which I had to use to get one of my wheel bearings fixed, within a year I should have not had that problem. I also had to replace my headlights which were glazed over when I bought the car and had rusty water that settled at the bottom of the lights. This was not noticed until I replaced them.
The passenger side light stopped working a week after I bought the car. They were good with working with me to get my payments back on track, which I appreciated. It is just unsettling that if you have bad credit that you are sold anything. The cars look good on the outside at the lot, but if you plan to buy from this company, do your homework on the cars first.

My wife and I purchased a vehicle here. The 1st week we had the car it started overheating. They had the vehicle serviced for a thermostat housing. The second month my wife was on way to work, the car started going like it was in neutral. She had to walk 7 miles to get back to the house because where we live there's no cell service. We contacted them. They wanted 150-200$ for diagnostic "fees". I told them we'd just turn the car back in. We bought this vehicle so my wife would not have to worry about being stranded.
The woman at the lot was extremely rude and made it clear we could not swap the car for a more reliable one and would not bend at all. It's now going on the 23rd day without the vehicle and the transmission is still not fixed. (Although they got their payment.) All we get is a runaround from the repair shop. I will NEVER use this company again and strongly suggest this company be used as the perfect reason Florida needs to adopt a "lemon law". Because this car is a lemon and now we are on the hook for 18k and have a POS vehicle and now are back to square one. The day after I took delivery of the car I got an Anti-Lock Light... After 4 times in the shop they FINALLY got to the bottom of the problem... (Out of pocket deduct, applied.) 4 HUB Bearings, Anti-Lock Cable, 2 Wheel Bearings.
NOW; My Air/Heat is moody. Comes on and goes off as it pleases... The WHOLE front end suspension is blown. It feels like I'm riding in a tank... Even little bumps feel like I drove the car into a crater. My car has MORE SHOP TIME, than drive hours!!! (Perhaps a little exaggeration, but you get my drift.) The whole reason I had to get a newer vehicle is because I had to keep dropping money into my old one!!! I'm done... Gonna take it back to the dealership, drop it off, hand them the keys and let them know it's their problem now... I'm done!!!

We purchased a car in 2014. After having the car for a week, it ran hot. It was taken to the Dodge place and repaired. We had roughly $200 out of pocket to pay. Since that time, the car has been at the shop 2 additional times for the same problem and each time we have had to pay out of pocket. My car has been in the shop since June 6, 2015 and we keep getting the runaround. Aeverex sends me to DriveTime and DriveTime sends me to Aeverex. If the problem cannot be fixed I want another car or someone needs to pay for this repair.

I went to drive time to see if I could get a car. They told me I was approved for $18,000. Thinking I would get a decent car. But all cars were old ranging from 00-04. The one car I can't forget was the 2000 for hatchback ford focus. As we retested driven the car I noticed this weird smell. The guy said the windows where do when it rain but as I inspected the car more I could tell it had bad water damage. I could see the water line right about all the door speakers. I told the guy thanks but no thanks.
Few months later my stepdad ended up purchasing a car from them for me without me knowing. A 2006 pontiac grand prix. First off he told me the price for it was $15,000. I checked the blue book value and in great condition they sell for $8,838 the most!!!!! Not even a day later the belts started squeaking LOUD!!! We took it to the mechanic shop and it was the belts and the super charger that need to be changed. Plus dirty brake, transmission, and anti freeze. In which they said since he didn't buy the other coverage package they wasn't pay for the fluid to be change and pay half for the super charger.
I was and still am upset, plus the shop I got to specialize in fixing the drive time cars. Now I'm 26 but it doesn't take a CEO to realize that a car shouldn't left a lot or be sold if it has problems with it or WATER DAMAGE!!! Now more problems arise and now I have to come out of pocket because they don't want to cover the crap cars they buy and sell at a crazy price point to get your money. This place is poop. I fell bad for the people who are trying to make and get such bad quality of service and car. Like I tell anyone I know. STAY AWAY FROM DRIVE TIME!!! You been warned.

Original Review: June 17, 2015
I got a car from Drive Time, I had it less than 3 months and the engine light flashed and my car cut off on me and my four children at midnight. It took us until 3 am to walk home and I was 38 weeks pregnant. The automotive place said the engine was cracked it needed a whole new one. DriveTime says they put their cars through inspections and that can't be true. I haven't had my vehicle for almost a month and the car place the warranty pays to fix the car keeps telling me it will be ready one day and is not. Aeverex the warranty company was at first difficult but then they did their part and I am grateful. I have called customer relations to see what they can do as I haven't had my car in a month and they still expect me to make my car payment which I have done. They have all these challenges noted in my account and when I called customer relations they knew my story before I explained myself.
They promised me someone would contact me. Well, that was two weeks ago. I called back and the man tells me he really apologizes and nothing was done but he will send an urgent email. Still no call. I'm amazed on how the product was no good and then the customer service isn't either. I'm confused and also financially hurt as I have a 2 week old baby and no transportation to his appointments without renting a car. My son needed mouth surgery, he missed and I can't even go to the grocery store to feed my kids. I will make sure no one at my job or friends buy from DriveTime. They are not dependable and they do not care. Their series of multi car inspections must be a very simple inspections that can just pass to get and inspection sticker. I wish this never happened. If I had the chance I would have never purchased from them.
Hello, Chaun, thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback. Please accept our sincere apologies for the concerns you are having with the vehicle after purchase. Our vehicles undergo a thorough multipoint inspection to meet and exceed national safety standards. I have had my vehicle just over 1 year now and everything with DT has been very good. I have been late a couple times on my payment and they have always worked with me, you just have to stay in contact with them and they will help you work it out. I have had minor mechanical hiccups here and there but it is a USED vehicle so I didn't expect to never have a mechanical issue. The only complaint I have is that they DO NOT report to the credit bureau. It showed up for about the first 2 months on only 1 of my reports and disappeared to never be seen again. I would really have liked to see it showing to help my credit score. Overall, I have been pleased and hopefully I will continue to feel the same way this weekend as I will be going in for a diagnosis on another mechanical issue... hopefully it's a covered issue or very minor... (no such thing as minor with a BMW).

The people working at the dealership were very nice at first. I paid a pretty good amount down on a vehicle that I am having to constantly take it to the shop and having it towed. It has been almost 1 year and 1/2, and I have had to take the vehicle to the shop 6 times with BIG problems. The recommended shop are horrible that I have to take the vehicle to. My vehicle comes out worse than when it went with more than $500 out of my pocket. I can get no help from Drivetime. I have been told that I cannot trade in with them and I am so upside down. No other dealership will take the crap car! Ugh!

We purchased our first car in 1/2012. A 2009 Chevrolet Impala. We were quite pleased with the auto and was even surprised that the dealership offered a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty. WOW!!! I was impressed, I mean after all you want the peace of mind that your major purchase has a certain level of protection. This is a good thing, Right??? Yeah NOT so MUCH, but I will get back to that in a moment.
After 2 years of paying for the 2009 impala which BTW was a very good auto save for the couple of mechanical repairs that revealed themselves after the purchase. We had a tiered deductible on the Impala, 50.00 1st year, 100.00 2nd year, and 200.00 for the third year. Any needed repairs were covered except for the deductible. The only problem was they never honored ANY repair AT ALL. NEVER. I never received any value for the warranty. They refuse to address the issue...
In July of 2013 we ended back at the same dealership as my 16 year old was getting a car. Her choice was a 2011 Ford Fusion. I reluctantly went to look at the car and even took the time to review the car report they had on file regarding accident. It was provided by Equifax car services. (They suck). It reported a MINOR accident with damage to the front passenger side front. We looked at the body and found the cosmetic repair to be of good quality and figured the car had been repaired well.
We test drove the car and found it had a slight vibration in the front left tire. The salesperson told us it would be taken cared of under the 3 day warranty and if we found anything else within the first 3 days it would be taken care of and there was deductible. I went ahead and made the purchase. I was sold a warranty for the car and upon my objection, based on the previous "warranty for the Impala above wanted it removed.” It was explained to me at the time we bought the Impala they previously had some issues with that program and it was replaced with a different program. The new warranty is a flat 100.00 deductible for any repair for the next 3 years and you can go to any garage or dealer you want. If you choose the dealer the deductible was a bit higher for the repair (200.00?), but hey sometimes the dealer is the best place for your car!!!
We took the car to the dealership to have the car assessed for the front vibration and was at that time told and shown some major damage to the undercarriage that had occurred from an accident that was not detailed on the report THEY provided as part of their sales services and the damage not been repaired properly. NOW DRIVETIME CLAIMS they do a "100% percent inspection on the cars they sell as well as oil change, brake check etc.," so I am confused how they missed very visible damage to the control arm and suspension. I contacted the dealer and was told we had the auto for more than three days and we were stuck with it. No problem. The car has damage and we want it repaired under warranty, we will pay the deductible which was 200.00.
NO SUCH LUCK. I went home and decided to do some research and found after pulling a CARFAX report different from what the dealership showed me... The Carfax report indicated that the car had not been involved in 1 but 2 major damage accident. The warranty and the DriveTime dealership REFUSED to do anything about the repairs. $2987.43 later out of pocket the car was now repaired. Three weeks after, the ECU computer decides it is going to give up the ghost 598.00 out of pocket and you guessed it NO WARRANTY COVERAGE. I hate to think what I would do if the engines blew up!!!
Drivetime has never been willing to step up to ethical business practices with this customer and they should be ashamed of themselves. The executive and CEO Ray Fidel exhibits a cowardly approach to business as he won’t even answer a phone, I guess he is too busy for his customers. I have been the poster child of on-time payments for these auto loans. I have never missed a payment in four years. As a matter of fact the 1 decent person who got on the phone stated her embarrassment at the way I was treated due to our "IMPECCABLE" payment history.
I recently decided to open a business and since doing so have been at the mercy of red tape and payroll companies. Since I am now the CEO and a business owner I get paid once a month. We called DriveTime as we went through this process of financial adjustment. We made arrangements to have our due dates changed to be in line with the new payday. We were assured that the employee at drive time did her job and entered the information. SHE DID NOT. They don't do their jobs in detail, just the bare minimum to get their checks, but hey that is what our youth and our moral center is coming to, "do as little you can but expect everything." OMG some people should not have been permitted to reproduce, just sayin...
We have been harassed by rude unprofessional people at the customer service department who called us and demanded we make a payment right then because it was past due. Attempting to explain that the due dates were changed to the individuals on the phone was received by basically ** and was like trying to educate a turnip!!! When it takes three hours of phone calls to resolve an issue because of RUDE DISRESPECTFUL "customer service MIS-representatives," then the value of my business is certainly diminished and you become undeserving of anyone's business.
These people have consistently reduced the value of our purchases by not honoring the warranties, not providing fair and considerate customer service levels and by employing rude, disrespectful people who have no sense of business and amicable problem resolution. DriveTime used to be UGLY Duckling car RENTAL. They sucked back then and now all these DriveTime dealerships are is Bi-weekly “BUY HERE PAY HERE WITH A DIFFERENT LOOK.” They are still the slimy used car salesmen that have plagued good consumers for decades. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, ALL THEY WANT IS A CONTRACT. I would best advise any and all to stay away from these people and their horrible business... There are better places.

So I went to DriveTime to get a vehicle. Everyone was very friendly and helpful throughout the process. We even waited in the building for four hours because they only had one authorized person to finalize everything so even though we were getting everything done quickly, we spent 90% of our time waiting. Once we got the car it drove fine for the drive home and for a few hours the next day. Once I was almost home it just died and wouldn't turn over. Someone had told me they were pretty sure the fuel pump was trashed.
I tried to call the Pelham store and they couldn't do anything. So I called warranty but they're closed on weekends. So I was stuck with my 2 year old son in the middle of town in 90 degree weather. There's no emergency number or anything for me to call, I was just stuck. Basically being told "Too bad. Sorry nothing I can do" wasn't the greatest thing for me especially since I JUST bought it the night prior.

I've had my car for 10 months and it's problem after problem! When I first got the car the door wouldn't close. They fixed that. 5 months later after I got an oil change and a new air filter, my car started to hesitate horribly. I thought I needed a tune up, but it didn't have 100k miles on it, gave it a tune up anyways. Car still was hesitant.
A month later I was smelling gas every time I cut my car off. Found out it was a gas leak and that my car was on several recalls! Took it to a local dealer. Was there for 4 days. My car had about 4 different recalls. Smh! As the temperature is rising I decide to turn my air on in my car. Yeah, every time I do that my engine light comes on and automatically cuts my car off. Try that with your kids in the car during traffic hours, not fun at all! When the engine light came on I took it to auto zone and they gave me a list of codes that may be wrong with my car! It was the mass air flow sensor that was making my transmission idle. My car quit on me! My car had cut off on me 5 times in the past month. So I went to get that fixed and obviously Aeverex doesn't cover that part!
Well my main issue is why the hell do I have to pay to get my car fixed, and on top of that pay my car note too! The customer service that this company have is horrible. I'm trying to tell these people that I can't give them the money for my car payment cause I had to pay to get my car fixed. This female tells me to ask someone else to pay it for me! Yes you sold me a lime not a lemon, a lime! I will NEVER ever shop here again, nor will I send people to this company! As soon as I find a way to pay this car off, which by the way I could've gotten me a 2015 for the price I'm paying for this 2009, I will!

Everyone is great when you go in after approval BUT that is it. We got a crap vehicle and their "repair facilities" never find anything wrong. But you go to someone not associated with them and it's amazing what is truly wrong with the vehicle. DriveTime will call you constantly about payments and each person tells you something different. When you ask for a supervisor they are never available. If you ask about returning the car, which is suppose to be simple, you have to go through their repair facility first and they make the decision. Go somewhere else. It's a headache dealing with these people.

I would like to forward this complaint to DriveTime Corporate headquarters. As a long time customer of DriveTime and now financing a third vehicle through your company I am sad to say that your company based in Wilmington Delaware has been the absolutely most horrific experience. The staff members lack of knowledge and poor training has been extremely infuriating. I would like someone from corporate to contact me to discuss further. I have attempted to address this with the manager ** when I first purchased the vehicle and now a month later very little has changed. Nobody can answer a simple question such as "When does customer service open?", "Why have I not received my license plates yet?", or "Why can't I set up my auto pay 5 days prior to payment due date?". As a manager, ** could not answer one question and kept putting me on hold and would come back to inform me that he didn't know and would have to redirect me.
When you give the staff feedback or voice your frustration at their lack of assistance and the fact that he couldn't answer or assist with anything that I needed and he is a "manager", he becomes defensive instead of apologetic and doesn't seek out the answer. He uses words like "they should' be open" regarding customer service. As a manager, he should know whether or not "they 'are' open". This was on a Saturday morning at 9:30 eastern time. Then he finally mentioned that customer service is in Phoenix and they "should" be open now. However it should have been obvious to him that there is a 3 hour time difference so if they open at 9 am, it will be 12 pm EST. Common sense is lacking and there seems to be an obvious lack of training regarding staff being informative, detail-oriented, and how to be proactive to take ownership of the conversation and seek out the information that the customer needs.
I contacted DriveTime this morning at 9:30 am and I still have not had my one of my questions answered and it's now 11:15 am. I am certainly not wasting my day off from work to spend time with incompetent members of your company on a telephone. ** also seems uncertain of any information he gives even regarding my license plates. I live in NJ and was told I'd have my plates in 5 weeks. It's now been 5 weeks and I have no plates. When inquiring about this matter ** tells me "it looks like they haven't been sent", but now I'll have to wait till 12:30 pm for the DMV clerk for an answer. Isn't ** the manager? Why would a manager not have access to informing a customer about anything that his staff is equipped to look up?
He is clearly comfortable with passing the buck as when I questioned why as a manager he couldn't assist me with virtually any solid answers he then passed the phone off to a very rude girl named **. What manager passes off the phone to another individual after I explicitly asked him not too? What was his purpose in doing so, as ** just argued with me and didn't assist either. ** was now on the defensive acting like ** bodyguard and went on to mention about how she was there when I first came in (as to insinuate that I'm the problem) and proceeded to talk over me and have me repeat information that I had already discussed with **. Clearly I am not going to repeat myself to a second incompetent argumentative manager/staff member who again never answered my simple question regarding "what time does customer service open?"
Instead she proceeded to go on about how customer service time varies during tax season compared to off tax season and she didn't know what time they opened so she'll have to look into it. As a customer, I don't care about tax season or non tax season, I just wanted an answer to a simple question which I still never received. It was like pulling teeth to attempt to get a precise answer regarding customer service opening and closing times. The staff/managers also don't see the error in their ways and are defensive instead of seeing this as feedback to improve on so many levels and that's where their biggest mistake lies. They are unwilling to make changes or put themselves in the customers shoes and instead are on the defensive and take things personally which results in being argumentative.
From what I am guessing, DriveTime at this location does not pay well and/or seek customer service oriented individuals who understand all of what I've discussed above. Perhaps this location should seek out experienced people in the hospitality industry who are better equipped to handle such simple tasks/questions. My first two DriveTime experiences in Orlando and MD were amazing and flawless. This one has been a nightmare from the very beginning. The financing process was beyond time consuming and stressful. The test drive experience was where I was sent out initially with two young kids (one trainee) who knew nothing about the vehicle even though I had picked the vehicle out a day prior. The car was dirty with visible collected pollen on the outside and stained/dirty carpets and caked on liquid/food in the cup holders.
The car clearly wasn't detailed or at the very least cleaned prior to my arrival. Even after selecting the car they then vacuumed the carpet but I still had to go home and use armor all to clean the cup holder. After spending over $17,000.00 on a 2006 vehicle a customer shouldn't have to wipe it down immediately. Needless to say there is still a stain on the rear passenger floor, which I'm sure was never shampooed by this DriveTime location. In addition, the car was marked online as silver and based on the vehicle picture it looked white. I had to call and have a staff member visually check the car because of the contradictory information. I wanted a white car and it was confirmed to be white.
Afterward, I noticed they never even changed the wrong info on the website. It still read silver and never changed to white. The same thing happened when I arrived to the dealership, the car was marked as an SE Solara in the front window. I wanted a 6 cylinder vehicle so that raised red flags to me because Toyota Solara never made their SE version a 6 cylinder. Mind you I drive 1.5 hours to this location from NJ. I mentioned the discrepancy to the two young staff members who were test driving with me and they were clueless. I could tell when driving the vehicle that it was a 6 cylinder.
Clearly on the back of the car it read SLE, not SE. The SE and SLE are two different models to a degree, especially regarding the cylinders and some other features which is crucial information during the buying experience. This location doesn't get that the devil is in the details and there are so many errors from a customer service standpoint at this location that the little things add up, then you throw in the bigger things like defensive/argumentative staff, and it makes the experience a nightmare and unbearable.
Clearly this location is lacking high expectations from its staff and management, which is noticeable through the consumer's eyes and makes for a bad reputation of the DriveTime company. There were many other issues as well, but my reason for sending this email is in hopes that this location thrives and doesn't drag down the DriveTime brand. I would certainly hope that these issues are addressed and appropriate steps are made at this location so they can live up to my two other past DriveTime experiences of which were flawless. Thank you in advance for your time.

I have nothing but good things to say about DriveTime. Everything is upfront and transparent. I tried a couple of other bad credit type car places and they were very secretive and dodgy when it came to pricing, interest rate, vehicle history, etc. At DriveTime the price and history report is right on their website allowing me to do some research before going into the dealership. I was also surprised that their pricing actually fell in line with "buy from dealer" prices found on car value websites. I test drove a vehicle and it seemed to have a loud engine noise. Instead of trying to say "oh that's the way it's supposed to sound" they had an employee check it out and they found that the air filter assembly had disconnected from the engine. They sent it out and had it repaired and ready for me the next day to pick up. In my opinion my DriveTime local dealer is everything you want in a car dealer. Upfront, honest and willing to work with my credit history. Thanks!

The site I went to has no phone number and asks for all your sensitive information in order to find out if you are approved for a car loan. They say they deal with low income / bad credit folks. This is a scam and steer clear. This is the DriveTime used car lot people. They sent me an email and called my phone to tell me "congratulations" you have been approved for a loan. They wouldn't tell me for how much or what the APR was and said to drive to the SW Freeway location in Houston and that a representative would have all that information when I arrived.
When I got there the place was pretty empty except for employees. I talked to a ** who told me I wasn't really pre-approved. He told me that the minimum amount in income required was 1600.00 a month. That threw me for a loop since I was told I was already pre-approved for a loan on my disability income which is less than that a month, far less. He then proceeds to ask for my debit / bank card, and my bank account information, and wanted a copy of my medicare card! He said he wanted to go online and look at my bank account to verify my income, as well as verify if I was disabled and getting medicare. I told him no, that I was not going to do that if I was not actually approved for a loan in the first place!
When I tried to call their company and complain their representative blew me off and told me the original rep who first contacted was located in Barbados and there was no way I could talk to her. When I tried to reply to the rep who sent me the email it came back as no such address found. This was a total bait and switch. This is a really sleazy way to get low income people to visit their used car lot. They don't have any real intention of giving you a pre-approval at all. You will waste your time if you drive out there. If you are below the income threshold and or have bad credit the chances are pretty good they will scam you. Beware folks. You cannot trust a company like this if they advertise falsely and bait you into their used car showroom.

I am a new user of DriveTime and from my experience already I would not refer anybody to DriveTime. There was miscommunication with reps at the dealership and reps over the phone. My car got towed because of the deferred payment that was told to me would be withdrawn from my account along with the car note, and come to find out I wasn't even set up for automatic payments like I thought I was. I had to go and pay the car note myself and the only amount asked for was only my car note and not the side note so I suppose it was just going on the next car note and it would double which was ok for me.
That wasn't the case. They came and towed my car and I work at Walmart so don't make that much and had to pay them 638 dollars for the side note and the tow from the company and for them to release my car, and they expecting me to turn around and pay 330 dollars again and wouldn't even help me make a arrangement til the next pay period. Within me talking to multiple customer service reps and a manager that wasn't worth her job. So this company is full of ** when it comes to trying to get help from the company cause they help you at all if you're on the leasing program!

Years ago I did a trade in with drive time on my Honda Crx for a Mitsubishi Eclipse. Now I am getting tickets in the mail for the crx. The title was signed over to them at the point of sale. This is creating a ridiculous amount of problems for me with the dmv. I was treated very poorly throughout my ownership of the Mitsubishi, but that's besides the point. I want this resolved immediately. This company should not be trusted. When I first got the Mitsubishi, it died in two weeks due to the camshaft sensor. After that, it was a nightmare to own. Their warranty service is bogus. Nothing is covered. Now, years later I am having this problem. Get this resolved yesterday.

After he finally fixes his phone so we can hear each other, he came up with the idea to let the dealership in Jackson Mississippi to contact me since it was the closer one to me and I'm a 100 plus miles away. To make sure I have everything I need so I don't make a wasted trip. Very good idea but it's been three days and no word. I'm not even a customer and getting the brush off. Guess they have enough business they don't need mine. Very poor business.

DriveTime repossessed my vehicle for being 2 weeks late. DriveTime was aware of my issue with paying late this month due to new job. I made my payment this morning. When my husband and I got up for work this morning the car was gone. I did not get a call or notice from them. I had this car since 2012 and has paid over 11,000. I called them this morning and was told I needed to pay the next week payment plus 300 repo fee in addition to storage fees. I paid an additional 596.00. Then they tell me the vehicle was on the way to Atlanta which is over 2 hours away. They told me I had 48 hrs to get it or I cannot get it at all. I have no way to get there in such short notice with no other vehicle. This company has ripped me off and left my family in a bind.

I drove to Atlanta on 4/29/15 from savannah. My transmission went out. I had the car towed to meineke. Averex sent a transmission that was in bad shape to be installed. It was. They never paid meineke to this day. My vehicle that I have still been making payments on is still there. Storage fees are accumulating because it has been 30 days. Drivetime only paid for 4 days of a rental car. I was told it was 9 days. Imagine my surprise when I got the call from enterprise demanding payment. Not to mention that I was stranded in Atlanta at a hotel for three weeks. I had to pay for my own hotel bill at $109 a night because I got a corporate rate the company I work for. By the way today is 5/29/15! Your company has single handedly bankrupted me and my children. My question to you: Does your brand name mean nothing to you?

I guess this is a mixed review. I am both sad and happy about this revelation because I had prayed fervently about buying a new car. Hopefully, my story will help someone. I was in dire financial straits in 2011 when I bought a (2005) SUV from DriveTime (this is most times the case with those who purchase cars from them). In early 2012, after consulting an attorney, I decided to file for Chp. 7 bankruptcy. This was not a good time, but one of the best financial decisions that I could have made. I reaffirmed my loan with DriveTime because I needed a car and was sure it would help to re-build my credit. DriveTime assured me this (or I probably would have given up the car).
Fast forward three years. The car is now 10 years old and needs some major repairs. I have NEVER been late on my payments - ever. In addition, I would pay extra on the account because of the 21% interest rate (that's what happens when your credit is questionable) that I wanted to pay down. So, I decided to bite the bullet and go to a traditional dealership to get a new car and trade in my SUV. So, they run my credit and tells me that DriveTime is nowhere to be found on my credit report. Yep, that's right. I was furious! I was still able to get financing (due to other credit that had been built over the years), but they did not want to take my trade in. I would have been losing $6k if they had traded it in... This is important to know as I finish this story. Although, I can now afford it, I ultimately decided against getting this new car and paying on the old at the same time. That's just not financially smart.
So, I called Drivetime and did my own research. Sure enough, in Nov. 2014, DriveTime execs decided to delete the consumer tradelines for all customers who had ever filed bankruptcy (I'm thinking they may have gotten in trouble or sued for reporting while customers were in bankruptcy). They NEVER notified me of this in writing. Over the past three days I have called DriveTime several times and have gotten a letter confirming that my DT tradeline has been deleted and that they would/could never report to the credit bureau on this account because of my bankruptcy status from three years ago. It's like I never financed through them. So, since they cannot/will not report my good payment history, I have decided to go through with a voluntary repossession and purchase another car (and have that good history reported).
The customer service person told me that they will probably sell the car at auction and I would have a deficiency balance to the in-house account, but that it would not reported to the credit bureaus. I have kept every letter/email regarding this situation in the event that I have to dispute or sue. So, in the end, I get rid of an expensive credit line and an unreliable old vehicle.

My vehicle was recovered and I called the day it was picked up to see what I could do to retrieve my vehicle and I was told I had until 9pm central time that same day to pay to get the vehicle. When speaking to a customer service rep, I asked if I could have a day or two added to retrieve my vehicle due to just returning to work. The customer service rep stated that she could ask a supervisor if I could get another day. After being put on hold, the customer service rep returned and stated that the supervisor said no another day could not be given. I questioned why I could not be offered more time. I was told that I was behind and could be offered any more time.
A few hours passed and I called back to talk to a supervisor and talking with the supervisor he suggested that I reach out to family and friends because the decision was made to only give me until 9pm to pay to retrieve the vehicle. He also said that it was a business decision not to allow more time to retrieve the vehicle. The supervisor went on to say that he was doing me a favor by making this business decision because the vehicle was new enough to resale and once it sales, it will be taken off my credit as if I never did business with them. I explained that I needed the vehicle and assured him that I would pay if granted the opportunity to have a few more days to retrieve the vehicle. I was told that a business decision was made and there was nothing he could do.
The supervisor then stated the amount of time I had spent talking to him and others on the phone about this matter. He also stated that he and I had spent a certain amount on the phone and that we could talk about it for hours and nothing would change. As a result of a business decision, I as a customer was not allowed to retrieve a vehicle that is still in my name. I was also told that I would have to wait until the vehicle was re-sold for the vehicle to fall off my credit. As a customer why do I have to wait for the vehicle to be re-sold when I'm trying to retrieve the vehicle. This was unfair to me as a customer and a "business decision" that was made not considering the customer. I would not recommend DriveTime to anyone, especially if the customer is not considered. Most car dealers give you more time to retrieve a vehicle. I was too outdone with this "business decision" that was made by a supervisor.

I purchased my car from DriveTime Brook Park on 05/15/15 exactly 11 days ago and today the car died completely! I've been having problems with it since day 1! It started with minor problems and developed new problems each day. It started with my back window not working, then my locks randomly jumping up & my trunk popping open. My check engine kept going on and off along with the service air bag light. This weekend a very FOUL smell like rotten eggs & trash started coming out the vents of the car, you could even smell it outside of the car it was so strong! Monday (Memorial Day) the car wouldn't start and after my dad jumping it it started up. Today when I stopped home to get something and leave back out it wouldn't start again, I was parked on the street. My dad jumped it again and got it started and I pulled into the driveway.
After an hour I came out to attempt to leave again and AGAIN it would not start! This time jumping it won't even work it's completely died. I've been back and forth with customer relations and Aeverex and the store itself about this car it makes no sense. Been to the shop a week ago and nothing was fixed! Now they want ME to pay OUT OF POCKET for the diagnosis and all the repairs and CLAIMS that I'll be reimbursed (YEA RIGHT) - you guys will NOT fool me again! Now I have no way to get to work, I work across town from my house and I have to pay for a tow to even get the car out my driveway! I will NEVER refer ANYONE to DriveTime, not even my worst enemy. This has been one of the biggest mistakes I've made in a longgg time and it's simply ridiculous!!! YOU GUYS GET NEGATIVE STARS FROM ME!!!

Our vehicles undergo a thorough multipoint inspection to meet and exceed national safety standards. However, with a used vehicle we are unable to determine when a new failure will occur in the future. A Vehicle Protection Plan is also offered to assist with un-anticipated repairs that occur after sale, but it does not cover all repairs. In addition, DriveTime offers a Vehicle Return Policy within the first 5 days of purchase and we encourage customers to utilize it if they feel the need. I leased a dodge charger from Drivetime, and in less than 2 weeks I have had multiple problems including the major one. The car was missing a key... so I have no physical key for the doors. The engine went and it's been in the shop ever since. I called the store I got it from, they sent me to the warranty company, who asked me how many miles I drove. I told them and they actually sounded disappointed that I was under the miles where I wouldn't have a deductible. They didn't want to pay for the whole engine but left was too much for me to pay. What kind of warranty is this... Now I have no car and every time I call customer service they just continuously transfer me. I wait on hold so long only for it to hang up. In the mean time I have no car but still have to pay... Keep on mind I haven't drove the car for 2 whole weeks... WOW.

My name Gregory **. I had the worst experience of my 50 yrs leasing a car from DriveTime in Lewisville TX. First I went online and got approved. Then I was equated 895 to start. Then when I got there it went to 1thou and forgive dollars. Now I'm telling these guys pls keep me at a payment of 2 hundred per month and was promised that. Point blank was lied to. But I purchased the car. I was at the dealership for 4 hrs but before that I drove my 18-wheelers from Houston TX to Lewisville Tx and could not find anywhere to park but I doubt somewhere to park and then walk four miles to make my appointment time. But moving on after being there hrs finally got the car right before closing time. I get in the car. Drive home and bumper falls off. I stop, call DriveTime manager and told him what happened and he told me, "Man just bring the damn car".
Next day had to go to Houston, Tx and then called customer relationships in Houston, Tx. Now while in Houston I was advised to get to Lewisville, Tx so I rented a car almost 4 hundred dollars and then drove 5 hrs in the pouring rain but I made it back to the dealership with my wife plus boss man. The general manager walks to the car with my wife and my wife say, "Sir we save our money to come to this place for a year and sir this car has been in a wreck", and he says, "Yes I know we but car and fix them". Then my wife says, "Sir a drive the car because water is coming in". He tell my wife, "I don't care". I was so upset for this man a general manager to speak to my wife no respect. After that I called customer relation again and put the general and actually let them hear the disrespect and she couldn't believe it. Said, "Sir what's wrong with him". My response was, "Now you see how me and wife was treated".
Moving on we are up there 3 plus hrs again. At the end of the day I said, "Sir just rebound me and I'll go to another DriveTime", and was surprised I needed another 2 hundred dollars to end this. I just spent almost 4 hundred dollars to rent a car plus the drive and this general manager plus customer relation didn't give a damn. At the end of day again closing time I say to the General Manager, "Well sir I have made my 24 hrs spans to get this car here and me and my will probably shape to walk home". The General Manager then says "I will extend your contract just make sure you come back". Now 3 days lost of work. Next day called customer relationships and holds for 1 hr. Finally someone answers. I tell them of the situation and then hear, "We will call you back". Yeah 3 hrs later then I hear I broke my contract and I could not get any of my money back.
I say, "Wait a minute your General Manager inform me to take the car home and if he could not do that when me and my wife was willing to walk home that's not our fault and he should have been trained to know this not us". Point blank she didn't give a damn and plus the supervisor in customer relation wouldn't come back to the phone. I was told I should have did a better walk around and I replied, "Man did not know when buying a car I would shape to get under car and check all the bolts". Point blank I lost my savings for months. Lost rent a car fees. I even went so far to ask, "Was the owner a family man?" and was told "yes", plus ask, "Could I talk to him?". "No".
So please please I say to any don't do business in the Lewisville, Tx DriveTime. My Rating a 0.. Customer Relation less than 0. If there is someone out there that could help me pls Please Please call me Gregory **. I have proffered and witness that heard this General Manger said this car was in a wreck but was not put together back the right way. Please people do not do business at DriveTime Lewisville, Tx. They will take your saving especially for middle class people.

Went to work with someone at DriveTime regarding purchasing a vehicle. Contacted call center and they told me that they work with you regarding your interest, they make payments to suit your budget and have vehicles with low miles. When I went to the center I worked with a young lady that was very helpful. After that anytime I called I was not able to speak with her. I always had to speak with someone else and they gave me conflicting information. The last time I was there I could not see the original person and they gave me someone else that had an attitude. He would not give me straight answers on the condition of the vehicle and basically told me I did not know what I was talking about.
When asking to see what payments would be, he brought in another person and he told me that the car with 100,000+ miles was going to be 22% interest and payments for 5 years would be almost 250 dollars bi-weekly. I told him I could not pay bi-weekly that it would have to be monthly and he said he could ask but probably not. (Not originally what I was told at the call center.) Then I thought that if my interest was 22% then I would look at a lower priced car with lower miles. Here I would be financing around $12,000 for a 4 door car with 40,000+ miles. My calculations after a down payment would be around $370 per month. Now he said because of the price of the car and that it has not been on the lot long that that particular vehicle had an interest rate of 26%! I said my beacon score though not good went up almost 30 points and interest varies depending on the price of the car and how long it is on the lot.
I was told that my score wasn't that good anyway and that was it. I was so upset. This is not what I was told or even read. I do have credit issues due to sick parents, funeral costs, additional hospital cost and my credit is not good, but I know I can't afford almost $500 for a car and treated like I was trash. Just because people have bad credit does not mean that companies should be allowed to charge higher interest and payments. We need a break too. These cars for 5 years with those payments, will probably not outlive the loan. Bad experience. Not happy with this company at all. The young lady that I originally spoke with needs to go to a more reputable company.

My family had outgrown our Honda and due to the lack of credit, went to DriveTime to purchase a crossover vehicle. While we were thrilled with the high interest rate or 5 year terms, we were told that it would be reported to the credit bureau and that was an ultimate plus in our book. Less than a year after getting the vehicle, I had a major health issue and work was not an option. I was forced to apply for disability. I applied for a loan to consolidate a few bills and make a smaller, more reasonable payment than the $441 I was currently paying and found out that DriveTime had never reported anything until I was late. There were no positive markings from them at all. I ended up defaulting on the loan. I contacted DriveTime, made a promise to make good on my loan as soon as I received my disability. They informed me if they saw it... they would take it.
Moving forward... I received my disability and kept my promise with DriveTime, I paid over $2,500 and continued making my payments. They were reporting my payments up until October of 2014 and stopped. The amount was written off as bad debt and my credit score dropped by 58 points. When I inquired about it, they said they would fix it. It took over 3 months and instead of fixing it, they put $1,800 on my report as a new loan. You would think this would be an easy fix. I kept my promise and did the responsible thing... The average person wouldn't have paid off a vehicle that is in default and costs more than its value. Being a woman of God, I feel you get what you put in the world and so I did what I felt was the right thing. It bothers me that DriveTime hasn't. As a disabled person, I shouldn't have to make numerous calls, get a run around and no results.
As of recently I owe $551. In February I was offered a pay off of a little over $800... which I didn't have. So this month I was told $400 was the best that they could do. I just feel like I'm being hustled and drag along until the very end of my financial commitment to DriveTime. Yesterday I requested my payment history to show credits I've received for referrals, late fees, etc, so I could dispute with the credit agencies and get it fixed... was promised it yesterday... I still have nothing. I will forever be thankful for the blessings and DriveTime's patience... but the things I've endured the last few years has made it hard to speak great things.

They are the worst impolite people I have ever purchased from. They are only nice to you when you are in the process of buying a car, once you drive off with the car if you call with any questions or concerns they are so rude. I has some issues with a tire valve breaking and asked the management on duty about the 100 points inspection. They said they do and if it includes valves and the Manager told me to call the 800 number then hangs up on me without even asking if he can help. I haven't even had the car 2 weeks and they are this rude when I'm still under my 30 days, this shows how little they care and how uncompassionate they are towards customers. I will not recommended them to anyone!!!

We had gone through a bankruptcy and it had been discharged. Several months later our car died and we needed to buy a new one. DriveTime was there and worked with us to get another car. We have made every payment on time (for over 3 years), up until October of 2014 it had been reporting to the Credit Bureau. I contacted DriveTime and they had an issue and had to stop reporting on ALL accounts, but they assured me they would get it cleared up - give them a couple months. They are now reporting, from what I have been told all accounts EXCEPT anyone who has EVER had a bankruptcy!
As of a few minutes ago they told me they hoped they could get it worked out, but would not commit to IF let alone when. The only thing they would do to help is send me a letter of credit saying I had made all my payments on time for the last 3 years... If you have a DriveTime loan and have ever had a bankruptcy, Check your credit report... you will find DriveTime missing and if you're looking for a car dealer to help rebuild your credit after a bankruptcy... DriveTime, if and when they get this issue resolved!

The process was very easy and quick. I am a very spiritual person and feel that my connection was ordained by God. Fortunately, I bought my dream car and really was not in the market but received a phone call and decided to see what was up with the opportunity. The first day was bittersweet which is an unmentionable but the dealership and its wonderful leadership and general manager immediately corrected the oversight and accommodated me appropriately. I will definitely make referrals and encourage others to pursue their services. I would like to recommend that they add a detail shop that will prepare the vehicle and clean it thoroughly and not the sales person and fill the gas tank like other dealerships to maintain a positive image and benefit to the customer as an expression of their appreciation. Overall, the service and experience was highly rated and I would more than likely purchase again in the future!

Sold me a f150 - after just 50 miles of driving transmission started slipping. Light came on. Called warranty comp and DriveTime was told to take to shop 45 miles from home which I did. Once mechanic looked at told me Ford has a service bullion on truck for rear end. Also had 4 codes on comp of bad comp, bad bank, and several other things. Only had days and 300 miles to return truck so took truck back to DriveTime - was left standing around for 5 hrs while sales manager and general manager continued selling cars at 7 pm, got there at 3 pm, I could get my money back but would take 15 days. I paid with cash down payment - no check or credit card so they don't have to wait for anything to clear. So 3 business days would seem fair but what really bothered me most is mech said no way they didn't know of truck problems which was evident.
When they tried to put me in another truck and it happened to be on a lift out front so you can see underneath that's why I noticed the old oil filter on truck and asked salesmen, "I thought you guys change oil on your vehicles," which is what they told me. Was done on truck I just brought back. I mean they have sticker in corner of windshield that says DriveTime next oil change which is 3 thousand miles above current mileage, sales me said "Ya we change oil on all vehicles that we get in." So I decided to go look at filter on truck I just brought back. Sure enough filter, never changed.
Wow and they do 30 point check on vehicle. Told general manager - he says "Well sometimes we just add oil if needed." Wow straight up lied to me about oil change on truck they sold me. I have video of sticker in window of next due oil change that right there told me that if you're going try to deceive me about a simple oil change, wow I'm sure it's a cost thing. I mean if they changed oil and filter on every vehicle would cost lots of money. Sure would like to know who does inspection and oil changes - put him on stand. Wow.

When I told them they thought I was lying. It took me 3 days of fusing with them for mgmt to agree to put me in another car. I had to pay $200 extra as a restocking fee and then had to wait a week on the new car I wanted to have a sunroof replaced. I'm not sure how well the cars are inspected. This was one worst customer service experience I have ever gone through. First of all at dealership sales man gave wrong information about when payment would be taken out and this actually made our bank account over drafted thinking the company already withdrew the payment that day going by what man said at dealership. Also we received an email saying "thank you for your payment" so we were not sure that company didn't receive the payment. Then at the beginning before we even sign anything we told sales man that my girlfriend got paid semi-monthly on the 7 and 22 on every month and he said "ok we make sure payment fit your everyday life," because we have baby on the way and moving in less than month to new place.
When we finally got the car the payment were not semi-monthly as we were told they were bi-weekly and some months we had three payments so we reached to DriveTime dealership they pass us to customer service to try and get our payments fixed. Then we spoke to someone in customer service that was trying to help and told they would submit paper work for change due date. All we have to do is wait for approval and go sign paperwork at DriveTime. No one advised us that there was a certain time we had gone to sign the paperwork. I was actually in hospital due to complication of pregnancy so we went that Monday to sign paperwork and they told it would be fixed.
Then DriveTime customer service told us there was no paperwork in system for us to change our due date. We are just getting passed back and forth to one department to next. No one is trying resolved this problem and it's their fault we're in the situation. Our payment goes up every time with this company. This issue is still not resolved. I truly just want to surrender the vehicle. Never look back I can't you how much stress and miscommunication I have dealt with from DriveTime. We are about to be homeless because keep running the payment over and over again over drafting the bank account and we told we would make payment Friday with debit card so I don't understand why running same payment.

If you do not want to be going to the mechanic every other week, then I would suggest looking for a car elsewhere. There is no way that they didn't know what they were selling me.

Something that really bothers me about DriveTime, is the mileage and pricing. Sure, they have friendly staff and a supportive financing team, BUT if you compare the prices and mileage with some others you find around, THEY ARE HORRIBLE. I found a vehicle that would've been absolutely perfect, until I realized that the mileage was nearly 100,000 AND they still wanted around 19 something for it. The year was like a 2008 too. Ridiculous. I can go to a dealership in my state, and get a 2011+ with less miles, and it would be cheaper.
Hi Kathryn, We are sorry that you were unhappy with the pricing of our vehicle financing. Because DriveTime specializes in financing for people with less than perfect credit, the interest rate on the financing can be quite high. The total price of the vehicle can be higher because it sometimes includes optional products such as the Vehicle Protection Plan, and Gap Insurance. Bought a car March 31, motor mount went bad on the 32nd day I've had it. Now they're making me use my "extended warranty". I get it, that's why I got it... But motor mounts don't just go bad overnight, which to me counts as a problem that started well within my 30 day warranty. Would have liked for them to say they'll cover it instead of just transferring me from person to person saying I have to pay my deductible. Drivetime, what's wrong with going the extra mile for people once in a while?

After owning the car for a few days, I drove it from Indianapolis to Louisville and on the way there and back noticed that there was a weird ticking and whining coming from what appeared to be the driver's side and under the hood. I returned to DriveTime upon my return and was told that there wasn't a mechanic onsite (I was surprised to hear that, since there was a multi-point inspection checklist in my glove compartment). I was then told that I should call the warranty company or if I liked, I could take it to a mechanic of my choice and if there was a problem, then I should notify the warranty company. I did the latter and found that there were several problems with my vehicle. Problems like warped rotors, front and rear brake jobs, bad wheel bearings and a filthy air filter. I called the warranty company and they told me to take it to one of their approved auto mechanics and they tell me I have a bad alternator on top of all the other stuff.
Before I have even made my first payment, I find myself without my vehicle (over 4 days now), and I am patiently waiting on the needed work to be approved. This whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth along with a bill for $1600 worth of work. I thought I was dealing with a reputable car dealer in DriveTime, but so far it's not looking that way. At this moment I wouldn't recommend DriveTime to anyone. Hopefully in the upcoming days I will hear some good news and my vehicle will be returned to me.

We purchased a car 3 weeks ago, complete with warranty. At the time of the sale we were assured that any defects would be taken care of. While we are aware of the free scratch and dents that come with purchasing a used car I would assume that an issue with the drivers side door staying open would be fixed. After 3 calls (one to warranty company, one to DriveTime and one to the liaison for the previous two) I still have no resolution. I have been told because the issue is not mechanical it's not covered under the warranty. I simply want the door fixed as we were promised and I find this process to be absolutely ridiculous.

I began my lease in February. Initially when I started my contract I was working through a temporary agency but was scheduled to be hired permanently 2 weeks later. I had to provide the dealership with a letter from the company stating that I would begin permanent employment. I was being paid weekly by the temp agency and advised my salesperson that my pay schedule would change to semi-monthly once hired. The salesperson advised me it was no big deal and once hired I could call and change my payment schedule. Couldn't have been further from the truth. I was advised by customer service every time I called for a payment extension that it was a no grace period contract, my vehicle could be repossessed, and the due dates could absolutely not be changed.
After the rude reps and feeling as if I'd been lied to I took to the internet to express my displeasure on a website similar to this one. I then received a call from someone in their customer relations department, explained my situation and was advised they would get it worked out. I received another call and was advised to go back to the local dealership to sign a new contract corresponding with my new pay dates. I called the dealership and was advised they had not received any new contracts for my account. Another call to customer relations and was advised I needed to be at the dealership and they would have to draw up the new contract while I was physically there. Ok, no biggie. I make an appointment and go to the dealership. Get there, provide new pay stubs and other info needed.
An hour later I'm on the phone with the leasing manager telling me the change can't happen. His solution was to cancel my current lease and provide a NEW downpayment on the SAME car to get my pay dates to match up. If I could find a way to get my initial downpayment back and go elsewhere I would return this car in a heartbeat. This has been a horrible experience and I will never do business with DriveTime again.

After losing almost everything to a bad deal, I ended up going to drivetime for a final attempt to get a vehicle. I had low expectations of getting what I wanted because I've been so unlucky, but they blew me away. Not only did they finance me immediately, but they worked with my low down payment and within my budget to get me into a vehicle same day. My interest rate is high, but I have the chance to lower it within the next 60 days by putting as much money down as I can. ** explained the process well and helped me narrow down my choices to pick out two cars and test drive. He spent a lot more time on making sure that I got what I wanted versus what he wanted to sell me.
I was impressed with the choices he offered me, even with a limited selection at the dealership. I left that day with a 2011 Ford escape, a car newer than I ever expected. So far, I love it and I couldn't be more impressed with the way it has all worked out. I have to tip my hat to Drivetime for what they do. I bought a 2008 Honda Civic EX sedan from the DriveTime location in Schaumburg, Illinois. The salesman was great and the transaction went smooth. They had this car aligned at Midas and the tech there didn't do the best job. DriveTime wouldn't won't even offer to send it back to be re aligned. The car also has an issue to where the AC compressor and cooling fans run constantly even if the AC or defroster is off. The warranty process is also very cumbersome and there are no shops in the area that are in the warranty network. I contacted DriveTime via calling customer service and Twitter. Not very much luck on the phone with customer service.
On Twitter they stated they would have someone contact me to turn this experience around and they never contacted me back. I ended up returning the car and even then no empathy was given and they didn't try to salvage the deal at that point. I walked away, taking back my trade and down payment within the 5-day 300 mile return policy. I also advised them I would purchase the vehicle right away if they corrected the issue. They didn't seem to have much interest in doing business with me at that point. Only time will tell.

I have had a horrible experience trying to get my car serviced under the 30 day warranty. They are endorsing places that have poor customer service ratings as well as being in a very poor part of town. One of them is next to a firearms dealership and is dirty and unresponsive to any type of customer service. The other place is in the center of the "drug square" of town. When requesting to go to a place on their list that was decent and close to home, I was told that it was for only a certain type of customer. The Drive Time Service center seemed to be more customer friendly (but again a distance from my home and work) so hopefully they will be able to fix the issues that I am having. Not to mention the numerous times that I was hung up on in the midst of trying to connect to people.
Then I try to make my first payment with the options available on the Drive Time website and was unable to make the very first "FREE" option work because there are a lot of "glitches" so I had to pay the $4.50 fee to make the payment until I can set up my banks payment system. Tried getting help and was hung up and transferred multiple times. Finally, spoke with someone in "collections" and they listened but basically said "there's nothing I can do for you" (but at least he didn't hang up on me).
Felt pressured with purchasing the car. There weren't very many things available and were at times pushy with things I didn't want and just said "oh you can cancel that later". Very discouraged by this experience. Wished I had gone somewhere else and now I am stuck with a car that I don't like and having to deal with customer service for a company that was started in the state that I live in but closes at 3:00 p.m. in my time zone because the customer care is in a different state. Don't feel that customer care is the right name for the department. I don't think that I will recommend Drive Time to anyone ever!
Updated on 5/22/2015. So I took my car in to have everything fixed that needed to be fixed. I was told they would need my car for two days. I explained I can't do that, “can we split it up into two different days?” “Sure,” so I make the appointments. Then I am told “we can't do the one part of the job on a Saturday. You will have to bring it in during the week.” I thoroughly explain that it's far from my home and work. At that point I was asked repeatedly couldn't someone pick me up, kept saying no, then “let's see if we can get someone to drive you. Tell them where. Oh wow that's far. Let's see if we can get you a rental, I'll call you back. You can get a rental but they'll have to reimburse you.” I don't have the money for that. So I then suggest and ask “are you open on May 25th Memorial Day?” “Let me check... oh yeah we are open.”
So I set the appointment for the following Saturday and asked “can we make the second appointment for Memorial Day?” “We'll do that when you're here on Saturday.” The location of the service center is a distance from my home, so I waited for my car (6 hours). I didn't want to go anywhere because I don't know the area and it's not the nicest part of town. They supposedly fix my air conditioner. I again ask “is the 25th okay? It's a holiday." “Sure let’s make that appointment.” The next day I use the air conditioning and it's worse than it was before. So Monday morning I call and let them know and ask if any of the other things that were supposed to be were done, never got an answer on that, so think not.
Then on Wednesday I get a call, “we're not open on the 25th it's Memorial Day.” Very frustrated about this at this point and call back, express my frustration and my fear about being stranded if I use their shuttle service, and how I went to great lengths to find someone to drive that far to come get me, etc. I would like customer service to call me back. I get a call from someone at the service center and rehash everything asking again for customer service to call me. He says okay. Customer service calls me. I miss the call and call them back within five minutes. I am on hold for almost 13 minutes then it stops saying "all representatives are busy" and hangs up on me!
So I wait until the next day because I am beyond frustrated and again on hold for 14 minutes this time, hang up! Not sure what customer service does but very frustrated with this entire experience. Don't recommend Drive Time at all. Trying to figure out how to get my car to the service center so it can be fixed and I don't have to miss work and I'm not stranded at the same time! This wants an order number but I didn't receive any paperwork when they fixed the a/c, we'll do that when you're here on the 25th.

The customer service at this company is so bad! Every call I have made since having a car with DriveTime I get a different answer. I have asked to speak to a manager and was told there were no managers .... I was given the name of the owner but told he didn't have information to reach him. I'm often talked to like I'm stupid and the commercial do not tell the truth of what really is.... It's sad because people need this service but because we are using it doesn't mean we should be treated less than human. It's not enough that they have over priced the cars by 5000 and at times 10000 the cost. It's sad, but what can you do???

Don't buy from Drivetime... Purchased vehicle, 2/13/2015, in shop 2/14/2015... didn't get it out till 3/13/2015... mechanic couldn't figure out how this vehicle passed any inspection or got off the lot without drivetime knowing the issues. Started with plugs, wires, rack/pinion, sensors and then a new motor... Did they try to help, nope, all I got was "oh I am so sorry"... After 2 weeks in a rental they finally agreed to pay for my rental and promised to reimburse me out of pocket expense. Just another lie of many... Then I cancelled my GAP and 5 yr extended warranty on 2/19/2015 and as of today 4/24/2015, only the GAP has been adjusted to my account... paid $10000 down on a vehicle priced at $14000. Do you think they did any price adjustments to help... nope... Don't buy or even think of drivetime. You will get screwed... Gonna have my attorney handle all this.

Me and my wife decided to try out Drive Time for our vehicle purchase. Needless to say our experience was horrible. One week after we bought the vehicle the radiator cap exploded and me and my family was stranded on the side of the road. A few days after that incident, our brakes failed on us. After that we decided to take it back to the dealership. The Manager was rude to us and informed if we returned it we would have to pay the difference of the auction price they would sell it for. We found out later that he was lying to us about that. We put a 1000 dollar down payment down on the vehicle but we were not able to get it back despite only having the vehicle a very short time. I would recommend that people would not go here.
Hello Jacob, We apologize for the mechanical concerns you had with the vehicle soon after purchase. Please give us some time to research your account, and a Customer Relations Representative will contact you to discuss your concerns. I applied online got a call from a rep. I was told that even though I'm in process of getting my licenses back that I could come in the truck would be put in my name and the license driver would have to drive truck till I got them back but truck would be in my name. I got on your website and talked to a lady we picked out a truck that I was told was in my price range. I'm a disabled vet and have to get a ride to your office but I'm not able to go all over hunting automobile. So that's why I needed to know if I could afford an auto from y'all that's why I went to the website. Before I could ask for what me and the person online to be given to the sales people I would be dealing with so they would know my needs. I got back online and tried to get info from before sent to dealer they didn't try to help they sent your dealership all wrong info they didn't even get the name right of the person. They sent it anyway.
When I got in touch with dealer ** the sales person was very rude I ask him if he got info he told me yes and nothing he said had I talk to the lady online about. He even had the wrong name for the rep and that nothing I was told or shower was any good. I was informed they the online people were just there to get people into the dealership. I told him that "I need to know if I could afford one of your trucks because of my situation." The man was very rude told me I needed to go somewhere else to buy a car. His comment was a lot ruder than that but I'm not going to repeat that.
This has been the worst experience you will go through to by an auto. I will tell anyone I know to go somewhere else to get an auto. The people are rude and the information you receive can't be trusted. You just do all you can to get people on the lot. I was told that "if you would like a recording of this transaction just ask I have it." This is a rip-off and they will say anything to sell you a car. You can let people know if they can afford an auto from you before they waste their time. Do not buy auto from here if they treat you this way and tell so many lies before you buy about. Then think of how you will be treated after the sale. DON'T TRUST THIS PLACE IS A CON.

My initial encounter with DriveTime was not a bad experience at the actual dealership. I went in to inquire about purchasing a vehicle through their company in January 2015. They ran my application and advised me of the amount I would need to put down as a down payment. I found a car that I wanted online, so I’m to wait until they were able to transfer the vehicle from Alabama to Memphis. During this time, my boyfriend was also in the market for a vehicle, but he was going to purchase through another dealership.
While I was finishing up my paperwork, I encouraged him to purchase a vehicle through Drive Time as well. The sales person made me us aware that since I referred my boyfriend, I would a $200 referral credit towards my 1st car payment! Before we were able to make it to my 1st car payment, a few days after I purchased the vehicle, we noticed the car had a gas leak, so I returned the car in exchange for a 2012 Ford Focus on Feb. 12, 2015. My boyfriend later returned his car on Feb 14, 2015 because of a really bad burning smell. We had to sign to new loan agreements, but I was assured that I would still receive my credit for referring him to Drive Time.
So...it’s time to make my 1st payment, so I call to check on my credit to make sure that it has been applied to make account. The customer service rep, states that the credit won’t apply until my boyfriend (my referral) makes his 1st car payment. So I pay my car note. The next week my boyfriend made his car payment, so I called again and now they tell me that he has to make his first full monthly car payment (we were paying bi-weekly payments), so after he made his full monthly payment, I called back! NOW, they are saying that I have to wait two weeks after his payment in order to receive the credit.
Here it is NOW 3 weeks since he has made his payment. I started to receive calls from an account manager. I explained to her the situation and she advised me to call my local dealer to make sure the referral was filed properly. This morning, 4/21/15, I called the branch to inquire about the credit. They didn’t ask for my name or anything, the man, placed me on hold...came back to the line and states that his manager says that Drive Time REJECTED the referral because my boyfriend and I purchased cars on the same day. I explained to him that, that was NOT explained to us. Furthermore, if that is the case then technically once we both discovered issues with our cars, we returned them on TWO separate days and signed NEW loan agreements on TWO SEPARATE days. Therefore, the current vehicles were not purchased on the same day.
He transferred me to the customer line. ONCE again I have to explain the situation. This young girl, with whom I spoke with, had a very nasty attitude, so I requested to speak with her manager. When she attempted to transfer me, of course the phone "accidentally" disconnected the call.
I call back, get a new rep, explain the situation again, she transfers me to her manager **. I explain to him what is going on, he tells me that he is going to get it straightened out and places me on hold. I was on hold for 10 min, and then I was routed to YET another customer service rep! FOR FOURTH time today! I had to explain this exact same situation, I ask to be connected back to ** and she tells me that she has no idea who he is. I asked for her manager, I was on hold for almost 20 min waiting to speak with another manager and then they disconnect the call again!
I am beyond frustrated with DriveTime at this point! If this is an indication of how much their words and advertisements weigh, then I feel that I have made a very bad decision! I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO DRIVE TIME AGAIN!

Well the warranty did NOT cover it and we were forced to pay out of pocket for the repair. We talked to the DriveTime location customer services and customer relations... neither gave a damn. According to the DriveTime customer relations department, the A/C is a "general maintenance item" and that's why it's not covered. What?! Tires, windshield wipers, brakes, and oil changes and general maintenance items... not an A/C! They simply don't care. They'll do and say whatever they can to get you to leave with a vehicle, but the friendliness and the promise of customer "service" ends there.

Long story short, after the paperwork was done I was told the total price of the vehicle would be $30,000. Feeling like my back was against the wall and the urgency in which I needed the vehicle I signed the paperwork. Consequences: I'm going to end up paying $30,000 for a $7000 vehicle advertised for $12,000.
Hi Timothy, We are sorry that you were unhappy with the pricing of your vehicle financing. Because DriveTime specializes in financing for people with less than perfect credit, the interest rate on the financing can be quite high. The total price of the vehicle can be higher because it sometimes includes optional products such as the Vehicle Protection Plan, and Gap Insurance. I needed to purchase a reliable used vehicle mostly for commuting purposes. I began to research Used Car companies in the area and I spoke with friends and associates for recommendations as well. A very close friend suggested that I contact DriveTime because she knew someone that worked at the location in Temple Hills.
I went to the website and looked at the selection and I was impressed. I decided to call and speak with a representative about financing options. The representative would not engage me in conversation regarding my credit history or Finance options, he just told me to visit the dealership and take along my driver's license, proof of income and proof of residency.
I visited the location the following morning and I was greeted with a warm welcome. I had already decided on a couple of vehicles before I arrived. I took a test drive and made my decision on a vehicle. I was impressed with the In-house financing and the streamlined processing. I arrived around 10:30 am and I was out by 1:45 pm. I recently purchased a '08 Chevy Cobalt from DriveTime here in Tampa, FL. To say the least (but I will elaborate anyway...) This was the worst, the absolute worst decision I have ever made. For starters their redundant lie for advertising (We work with any type of credit and down payments) has proven itself to be nothing more than a sales pitch. After applying online I was approved and then contacted by a representative. Being that I am disabled and recently divorced, my financial situation is 'unique'. The woman assured me that the amount I was planning to put down would suffice as I had been approved.
The next day, I went in to DriveTime with my downpayment and all required paperwork. After the application was reviewed (again?) they came back to say that I needed $995 to put down or they were unable to help me. Thankfully, a family member was able to pitch in a few hundred dollars being that I need this vehicle for more reasons than leisure (doctor's appointments and such). So no, they do not work with you. They find ways to get you in and then talk you into spending more.
After locating the vehicle I wanted (which doesn't accurately reflect their online inventory) the saleswoman and myself went for a test drive. As soon as I opened the door, I noticed the filth...and I mean filth...the seats had stains on them, there was dust everywhere. I also noticed that the supposed electronic locks didn't completely work. When I use the key on the driver’s side, to unlock the car, only the driver’s side unlocks, which means I have to get into the car and unlock all of the doors. Now that wouldn't be an issue other than the fact that it's sold with "Electronic Locking System". I mentioned both of these concerns to the representative who appeared to have tended to the situation, but as you'll read on...that never happened.
Instead of financing, I leased the vehicle - it appeared to be the best situation for me as its term is only 30 months. Under their leasing program, oil changes are covered and certain maintenance features are covered as well...at least until the warranty expires. The warranty (issued by Averex, an outside company) states that you must keep up with the oil changes and other things in order to maintain the warranty (obviously). Well here goes a laundry list of things wrong with my vehicle (now that I have it home and they refuse to take responsibility for selling me this piece of....)
The car drifts to the left (as anyone who knows about cars knows...the alignment is off..way off). The wheel trembles as I drive...and I must maintain a certain speed in order to keep from that happening and we are not talking about 100 miles per hour...I'm saying 50. The oil reads 28% and after calling the dealership, the general manager confirmed that they had no record of the last oil change, he pulled up the information and consulted with a staff member who had no idea of the last oil change...(the warranty states I need to keep up with oil change every 4,000 miles but how do I know when the last one was, especially without a sticker present on the inside of the windshield??) The breaks squeak terribly when you come to a complete stop - somehow I didn't notice this previously...
DriveTime claims to have their vehicles checked by some point system yet they seemed to have missed the above errors...oh and did I mention how they brought me the paperwork for the vehicle's RECALL after I signed the lease? In other words this vehicle has TWO (2) errors that the manufacturer recalled LAST year April 2014. Yet in 2015, DriveTime has this car on their lot and sold it under false pretenses. Now is it just me or would the point system have brought up these errors, prompting DriveTime to fix them prior to selling?
What are the recalls you ask? 1. The airbags won't deploy if the key is in the ignition...in other words...if I am driving and someone hits me or I am in a collision, my airbags may or may not deploy...in other words I can be fatally injured by driving a vehicle from DriveTime... (lawsuit???) 2. When the key is in the ignition it can be removed...in other words I can risk a roll-away OR my car can be stolen. Both of these they just so happened to mention after the lease was signed.
I called the warranty folks and they are willing to fix it..because I am within warranty. But get this, while I have no car...they refuse to provide me with a rental because their policy doesn't include it. Even when they made mistakes that again, the general manager confirmed and apologized for. I spoke to numerous people in their customer service department who were also no help, continued to reiterate "the warranty". So now I have to figure out how to get this car fixed and still manage my healthcare. This vehicle was purchased with intent to ease some of the chaos in my life (especially medically) but instead added a level of stress, you can only imagine.
They offered to credit me for the days I may not be able to drive the car. But was does a pro-rate do for my doctor's appointments? For the insurance I pay for (yes, I am being petty but it comes down to that when you are sold a product that really shouldn't have been sold until it was 100% safe to drive). For almost 2 years I've been riding the bus and paying taxis but anyone with a metal rod in their knee knows how quickly that can change. This car was the "golden ticket" in my life and now minus almost $1,800.00 total, I don't really feel like my situation has changed that much.
I haven't had the car for one week yet. They're unwilling to help you. They refuse to take responsibility for their errors. They want your money and nothing more. Their advertisements are scams. I can go on. I was better off with JD Byrider. Moral of the story...if you have a "unique" situation, DriveTime should be the last on your list, at least here in Tampa. Great work DriveTime!

He was polite, funny and willing to assist any way possible. In fact the entire staff was friendly and comical. They got me what I wanted, when I wanted it and for the price I wanted to pay. I would recommend this Marietta, Ga location to everyone. Superb staff. Thank you.

I purchased my vehicle with DriveTime and I felt confident because they assured me the warranty covered major things that might go wrong. I had a lemon and when I would take it in for repairs, nothing was covered!!!!! I was flabbergasted and continued to pay out of pocket. I voluntarily returned this lemon. Now on my credit it is reporting as a negative item even though I returned it two years ago, it is showing up as I am missing payments starting in December of 2014. This was the worst car experience of my life and you not only sold me a wreck, you are wrecking my credit. Thanks for nothing.
Hello Daisy, We apologize for concerns you had with the vehicle after purchase. Voluntarily returning the vehicle at any point prior to pay-off results in a voluntary repossession which impacts credit reporting. Please give us some time to research your account, and a Customer Relations Representative will contact you to discuss your concerns. If you would like immediate assistance, you can call Customer Relations at 888-290-0148. Sincerely, Customer Relations

I was looking for a car online, went to DriveTime's website, got approved online. About 30 minutes later got a call to come in to test drive and finalize the loan. When I arrived I was greeted and treated very well, only thing I need was proof of income, address and driver's licence. They gave me a fair price on my trade in and never once changed my down payment amount or monthly payment. Had a great experience, would recommend DriveTime to anyone I know.

My car was literally falling apart. The front bumper was falling off, the right and left fenders were sticking out, the horn fell out, the steering wheel was supposed to be adjustable, it was not. I bought the car in Torrance and it was night. The salesperson ran through the checklist and didn't want to break a nail on the steering wheel. When I called to tell DriveTime about it, I was told as long as I could drive the car there was nothing they could do. I thank DriveTime for allowing me to purchase a car but I will walk or take public transportation before I buy or recommend DriveTime to anyone.

So after the purchase of a 2006 chevrolet equinox I find out that the car is in bad shape. I take it to the mechanics required by drivetime to be told that every repair is being paid for out of pocket. Drivetime refused to help with the repairs that are costly. I have not had the car a year yet. I have never been late on payment and yet I am not receiving assistant. My ordeal with drivetime leaves me to believe that I will never deal with them again.

After a crazy few weeks dealing with big dealerships and their bait and switch financing, I came to DriveTime at my wit's end and still without a car! Everyone I encountered was friendly, laid back and helpful, and I finally felt like the finance office was working with me rather than working against me. They put me in a car that fit my family's needs and helped me understand my options. The process was simple and to the point. Very much appreciated!
Greetings valued customer, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review about your DriveTime purchase. We appreciate your positive feedback. If there is anything we can do to enhance your experience with us in the future please let us know. Have a wonderful day!

While the actual process of buying the car was very easy and pain-free, the issues started almost as soon as I drove off the lot. I bought my car on 3/17 and on 3/19 the check engine light came on. I called DriveTime and they said to call the warranty department to have it taken care of. I called the number but since I had just bought the car 2 days prior my information was not in the warranty system yet. They told me to call back on TUESDAY 3/24! The lady on the phone was very nice but my issue has yet to be resolved.
Well the next day the check tire pressure light came on. I filled the tires and then this morning the light is back on again, meaning there is a leak in my tire. To top it all off as I was driving to work this morning my car told me I need an oil change. REALLY DRIVETIME? You couldn't even be bothered to change the oil before you sold me the car? Not to mention that my car would be "detailed" before I picked it up, it wasn't cleaned AT ALL. I spent a good chunk of my day cleaning the spill off of the ceiling that I especially asked to be cleaned up before I picked up the car.
Long story short, don't buy from DriveTime. They are just worried about getting the car off the lot. They don't care what happens as soon as you drive away and good luck getting your issues fixed.

My last vehicle was so unreliable that I was not able to keep it on the road. I let the bank repossess the vehicle which destroyed the credit that I had. Even with good income, provable employment, and a cash down payment, no dealer would even speak to me. I went to over 15 dealerships and I was treated like scum at almost all of them. Someone recommended that I give DriveTime a try, they treated me like a human being and gave me a chance when nobody else would. I explained that I would love an SUV but I understood that I would most likely have to get a small car. I went to the Brookpark Ohio location in hopes of getting anything with four wheels and an engine in good operating order. ** went out of their way to help me. They explained that they felt the lease program would benefit me the best.
I was able to leave DriveTime with a beautiful 2007 Kia Sorento SUV!!! The vehicle is in pristine condition, I am very impressed with it. ** has been in contact with me to make sure the vehicle has been operating correctly. I feel that DriveTime saved my life, I would have lost everything if they would not have helped me. I set up Autopay and tend to purchased the vehicle after the lease is up. I have recommended two other people to DriveTime and they are very interested in purchasing a vehicle on lease as well. Thank You DriveTime, you have given me a chance to start over when everyone else told me I would never own another vehicle. I am now able to get where I need to go in the nicest vehicle I have owned!

I would not even recommend drive time to my enemies, no one should have to deal with this sorry excuse of a company. First the vehicle I purchased is a piece of junk and drivetime won't stand behind the warranty claiming it has to be a complete failure, there is no option to pay monthly, and worst of all they aren't reporting to the credit bureau in the last 7 months which hurts my credit score and hinders or cripples my ability to unload the vehicle and get something decent, they won't trade it in and tell me to go to another dealer! Who does this? Drivetime has been the worst company I have ever dealt with!

I haven't had any issues with DriveTime until now. I was approved for a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox in 2012. Everything was fine except for a few issues in the beginning, which was luckily covered under their warranty. After the warranty expired my truck literally started falling apart. At the time I was financially able to get it repaired but now it's a different story. Took my truck to get looked at and was told I have some major issues going on and they're not sure how long my truck will last.
I've kept up with the basic maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, tune ups, etc.) so I know it's nothing I didn't do. I should've went with my gut feeling and not purchased this truck from DriveTime. But I was looking to rebuild my credit and thought DriveTime would be the better choice. Boy don't I regret that. I was initially told that they report to the 3 credit bureaus and they did. I was looking to buy a house around the end of 2014 and went to pull all 3 credit reports to find that DT Finance (Drive Time) has been removed from my credit. My credit score has taken a huge hit.
I called DriveTime customer service to figure out why my auto loan was removed. The first time I called I was told that they would send my concern to their credit department. I asked to speak to someone in the credit department myself and was told that they don't take calls or even have phones to take calls. I was told that my concern will be emailed to someone in the credit department and that they'll get back with me. I didn't hear anything from anyone. A few weeks later I received a letter in the mail stating that my loan was active and my credit report will be updated. That was mid January and my credit report still haven't been updated.
I called again after that and was told that they're working on fixing the problem. I called again in February to express my concern because my report still wasn't updated and was told that they had to remove the auto loan from everyone's credit and that it'll be fixed as of February 27, 2015. It's March 16, 2015 and DT Finance is still not showing on my credit report. I'm trying to buy a house and my purpose for dealing with DriveTime was to rebuild my credit. I look like a fool telling my Realtor that I have an auto loan and when they pull my credit nothing is there.
I'm very dissatisfied with DriveTime at this point. I never had any issues with this company until now minus the mechanical issues that I'm having now. I did some research to see if I was the only one with this issue and found that DriveTime was recently hit with a $8 Million lawsuit (Nov 2014) for their collections & credit reporting tactics. I never received a letter or anything regarding this. All I want is my credit report updated like I was told back in January.

First off let me tell you that I am a person who used to have good credit. Always drove new cars. And got hurt and was unable to work for 4 months, lost my house, a 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, and a 2014 Chevy Impala. So unfortunate circumstances have forced me to go to this horrible, horrible company. Bought my car on a Tuesday. Took the quick test drive route. The salesman recommended around the block, vehicle drove fine. By the next day I had noticed several problems with the vehicle. Shakes real bad at speeds over 65, made a real loud roaring noise coming from the rear end, many other small issues. I called the dealership (if you would even call it that) and asked to speak with my salesperson. He told me that I needed to take the vehicle to one of their vendors and if there was a mechanical issue with the vehicle then we would have the option to swap it out for another vehicle.
I called the vendor repair shop and was told that the earliest I could bring it in would be the following Monday because they don't work on DriveTime vehicles on the weekend. I could deal with the issues until Monday. Only a few days, right. Well of course I was wrong. I went out to my vehicle on Saturday to go to the store. It was a little sluggish. Starting up but it did start. I went to the store. I was inside the store maybe 15 minutes and when I came out the vehicle would not start at all. Well no problem DriveTime provides roadside assistance. I called and they let me know I had to pay $59.00 for them to come try and I say try to jump-start the vehicle if that's even the issue.
Lucky for me I was parked next to a flatbed tow truck. He was kind enough to tow it to my house. I called the dealership and spoke to my salesman again and let him know that the vehicle would not start now and it was obvious that something mechanical was wrong with the vehicle and I wanted to do as he said and swap it out for another vehicle because after owning a vehicle 4 days and it stops running, how many other problems am I going to have???? So of course he says I have to contact the powers that control that and he would call me back. A day went by and no call so I called him back and was told someone from DriveTime would be calling me.
It took three days of me calling before I was finally called and was told that I was responsible for paying to have the vehicle towed to the nearest shop to have it repaired and swapping out for another car was not an option at all. So I highly recommend that anyone thinking of doing business with DriveTime you think again. Stay away. I will be going out of my way to make sure that this does not turn out to put me in a worse situation than I was in before.
A Vehicle Protection Plan is also offered to assist with un-anticipated repairs that occur after sale, but it does not cover all repairs.
