CarMax says they will evaluate your car and give you a quote. But this is not always the true fact. After waiting for an hour and the CarMax taking my car for a joy ride, they came back and said that they did not have a buyer so they could not provide me with an evaluation. It would of been nice if they said that before I waited an hour in the showroom. They asked me to return the next day but would not confirm if they would still provide me a quote. This was a relatively antique car, so I would of understood if they said they could not provide a quote before making me wait an hour and after they had fun having a test drive of my antique car. 2 days later they actually sent me an email for a review!

I heard good things about this location, so I wanted to have my car serviced here. However, this was a HUGE mistake! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING went right. First, I was not able to get in contact with the service manager Jason prior to getting my serviced. Over a period of 10 days I contacted him three or four times and he never felt the need to return any of my calls. Even the day I showed up for service he didn’t speak to me or acknowledge that I was trying to get in contact with him. My personal recommendation for him is to be retrained by Tom (store manager).

Second, I was under the impression my car was going to be in and out the same day. To my surprise, they needed to keep my car so they gave me a loaner. This is not the worse situation since I was able to get a loaner. However, my service associate failed to tell me it was a POSSIBILITY that I would get pulled over by the police for “stolen license plates” because dealers have to get updated plates every year but the license plate number stays the same. Therefore, I was extremely pissed when I was pulled over for “stolen license plates” on a car that CarMax loaned to me.

Third, what they needed to service was not completely serviced when I did put my car up. Overall, I wasted time, energy, and my last days of summer dealing with a team of incompetent people at this location. If you wish to have a better experience, I strongly suggest you go to another CarMax. The location in Tinley Park is a bit further out depending on where you are driving from but it’s a bigger store and a production store so they are better able to meet your needs.

If you can buy from somewhere else, DO IT! RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!!! They crashed one of our cars on the lot, then sold us another that had a RODENT NEST under the hood, LEAKING OIL, electrical problems, etc... I called to make an appointment to get it checked, and they told me it would take at least 10 days to get it in there!!! The truck is less than 2 weeks old (conveniently broke down after the 7 day period) and they expect me to wait that long for things that should have been dealt with before it was put up for sale. This leads me to believe THEY DID NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE BEFORE RESELLING IT!!!!

The vehicle also has this blackish powdery substance all over under the hood. Don't bother calling the 800 number, they're just a feel good hotline that takes a memo and sends it to the same people who are causing the problems. So they finally take the truck in to get repaired and they don't bother to call me and update me, nor provide me a loaner vehicle... RUN AWAY AND DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!!! After the sale you are just a piece of trash to them.

I’ve bought five cars from the Carmax in Davis, Florida and have never experienced any problem. The salesperson I bought my last four cars from Jeff, was always willing to have a car sent down from another Carmax location and kept me informed and when he thought it would arrive. He was very knowledgeable in every aspect of the car business. Recently I called to have a 2019 Honda Accord sent from Jensen Beach and it arrived three days later. All the employees are friendly and I would highly recommend Carmax to anyone looking to buy a used car.

Unresponsive staff, I had to inquire more than 3 times to to get a car transferred to my home store. I had the car on hold. They tell me to call and take it off hold so that they can start the process. I did just that, and what do you know...within the 3-4 times I have called nobody started it. Nobody followed up with me.. Every single employee I called and talked to kept saying they would call me back but didn't. I don't understand how this happens with every single employee. In the end the car I really wanted was sold. The worst part is I had this car reserved and because they had me take it off and took so long to even start the process (doubt they even did) I didn't get the car. I wish I could give zero stars. I missed out a rare gem and I am truly sad about it.

I bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata from Carmax. They didn’t want me to test drive the vehicle claiming I had a 7 day test drive and could return it if I didn’t like it. That was the first mistake made. I should have insisted on test driving it and not purchased it. It is on its 3rd trip in for repairs in 4 months and is there currently for a week as of tomorrow. They want to give the car back to me with no radio and schedule another appt to bring it back again. I guess they assume that their consumers don’t have jobs and can easily just bring their cars back and forth.

The warranty only covers the a rental for 7 days, the car was broke down for a week before I could even get it in for an appt. I was told they only care about issues with safety items, however the first time they gave the car back with bad tires and a door lock that didn’t work and had to drive it that way for two more weeks which seems like a safety issue to me. The car was sold clearly without being inspected at all and they expect you to catch all the issues within. The first 30 days or you are ** out of luck. They do offer an extended warranty with a 250 or 300 deductible. All these repairs should have been covered by CarMax. They are the ones who sold this car the way it is.

Between both trips these are the confirmed repairs and there is still another issue they can’t diagnose. So most likely another trip and another $250 for me shortly down the road. Condenser for AC replaced. Both tail light assemblies and the wiring for them. Radio screen had to be removed for repairs. Both front tires replaced. Both window wipers replaced. Door seal for passenger door reinstalled. Tensioner bolt for passenger seat was reinstalled. Door lock actuator for passenger door. Door lock actuator for back passenger door. Starter had to be replaced. Still has a metal scrapping noise that is intermittent and they can’t diagnose it. Brake lights also would not turn off - this was fixed without taking it in.

I researched Carmax online during June 28-29. By the weekend I made up mind and did the online application. Kent was my sales consultant but I did not know that he did not work at the Lithia Springs location. Despite my doubts, he reassured me everything was fine and I was approved. He said and I quote "bring in your pay stubs and shop around for insurance." I did so and wanted to know to reach him directly so he gave me a number to text. This is where the nightmare happened. I never spoke with Kent again until the week of the 4th of July.

I spoke with Lesley, Karen, Craig and one other representative about the shipment of my car but never Kent again until the 3rd. In between all those conversations, Karen discovered that Carmax did not have my title but they were working on it. Again no Kent but he finally calls me because he had been reassigned to the call center in Raleigh. I was disappointed but he assured me he would reach out when the car was delivered.

After all the back and forth, I took my documents to Lithia Springs on the fourth. I arrive with my husband and we meet Chris who asked me twice who was my sales consultant. I told him I asked for one but my request was ignored. He proceeded to help and found out that Kent incorrectly input my information so I had to have my credit run again which caused more inquiries on my credit report.

Then Kent did not tell me I needed a 500.00 deductible to purchase the car which he failed to tell me. Neither did anyone else. Someone should be held accountable at the call center and it is not acceptable to tell customers "we don't overwhelm customers." At what point customers are given what they need to know before spending money and wasting their time.

We went to Carmax on 06/07/19 and bought a Lexus NX 300 at the Lax store. The entire experience was horrible. We went in at 12:30 and three different sales people were assigned to us between 12:30-7:45PM. Once we picked out the car, it took the business office more than two hours to ask us in for signing and only after I spoke to the business manager about it. They completely missed to credit the amount left on our extended warranty despite reminding my sales associate multiple times. Thankfully, the business office completed the process and we were glad to sit in our car. No big yellow bow for us! (Every other car in the driveway lot had it except ours.) We have bought all our cars at Carmax since 2009 and for some reason it has gotten bad and disorganized in the last few years.

I arrived at CarMax, Gulf Freeway, Houston this morning (Wednesday, June 12) around 10:10 am. I inspected the white 2012 F-150 vehicle thoroughly and was pretty much satisfied with what I saw, but didn’t like the sales person pressuring me to hurry. I was just about to close the cash deal and asked about the owners manual and the 2 pair of car keys. The salesperson told me he had only one original key and a duplicate non-program key that was made by a locksmith. He said I can look online for an owners manual on a Ford website. I had already written the check to buy the vehicle, but decided that if is the way CarMax does business, I no longer want to purchase this vehicle. When I told the salesman that I changed my mind about this purchase, he didn’t seem to care. It appears that CarMax is so anxious to sell cars that they have forgotten who the real customer is and will say anything right or wrong to sell a vehicle. Thank you,

I am very disappointed with Carmax's most recent experience. I’m a repeat customer from 2012 with a 750 credit score. My recent experience with purchasing a vehicle (2 days ago) was horrific and I am not at all happy with Carmax! They sold me a lemon that was obviously not thoroughly checked prior. As soon as I drove off the lot around closing time with the 2011 Buick Enclave from the Town Center Kennesaw Ga location, then several engine light error codes popped up.

I returned the vehicle yesterday and a service man claimed that the brake light was no major issue. He did something to clear the light but 20 minutes after I left the lot again then the light came back on with additional dashboard error lights. I recorded a video of the experience. ERROR CODES: (*) Brake Engine Light, (*) ABS error, (*) Service Traction Control, (*) Service Stability Track.

I have a large fan base on YouTube and will be posting my horrible experience. Years ago Carmax was great but now every car I've driven for purchase in the last 2 weeks has had driving issues or engine light error codes. I was offered a very high interest rate when I have excellent credit. I've already had to switch out of 2 cars and now a 3rd in the last 2 weeks. I can't keep dealing with crap cars and getting hard pulls on my credit until I find a good driving vehicle. I'm so sick Carmax!!!

My experience suggests that this company is geared to sell cars. When is comes to backing their warranty and/or refunding your money, then they aren't so good. Bought a used Jeep in May, 2019 with 8k miles on odometer. When I took it to the Jeep dealership for service on safety recalls three days later, the vehicle registered over 81k miles on the engine computer. Later, the instrument panel started malfunctioning intermittently. All this happened during the stated 30-day warranty. Now, Jeep won't replace the instrument cluster because they say the low mileage is wrong and I just want my money back from CarMax. Currently, I'm having difficulty getting assurances that anyone is responsible for helping process a refund. As an old, retired person, I would like some assistance. I guess the old adage holds: 'Buyer beware.'

I purchased a 2008 GMC Arcadia from CarMax Riverside in April 2017. I got the MaxCare warranty for the peace of mind I was told it would bring. Two weeks into driving the vehicle the transmission went out and CarMax purchased the vehicle back with No hassle and found me a 2009 GMC Arcadia. Again I purchased the MaxCare warranty for the peace of mind. After 5 months the vehicle started giving me issues and I took in and the engine coils were bad. CarMax warranty took care of me. I had the same reoccurring issue four months later and again CarMax took care of me. Then the turn of the year here in 2019 happened and again I was having issues with the car. I took in and I was told the vehicle needed a new engine. Such a major repair I was told it would be a couple of weeks.

A couple of weeks go by and after spending money on a rental because CarMax has a one week policy for coverage, I was called and told upon further inspection that the fuel pump is no good either and that another week or so was needed. So bills are adding up as I still am making car payments and yet have to pay for a rental to transport my 3 children and go to work. Two weeks go by I was called and said the car was good to go. I go and pick up the car only to be told now the transmission isnt responding to the new engine and went out so now a new transmission is needed. BUT here is the catch, because so much repairs has been done the warrant runs out and there would be a $700 balance. I went to panic because I believed that the warranty was a safe haven a PEACE OF MIND for me and my family and no the fact was that the car was over $21,000 in repairs and at its limit.

I contacted customer relations who put me in a No Cost loaner vehicle so that I wouldnt have an expense on the rental and stated that the transmission would be fixed and appraisal on the car would be made so that I could get out of the car and into something that wouldnt be an issue. So after a total of 9 weeks I yesterday got the appraisal back and it came back at $5500 which is $11,00 less than what I Owe on it and $16,000 less than what they spent to repair it. This couldnt be happening I thought I believed since CarMax was with me the whole way there was something they could do to assist me in this. NOPE. I was given a few option in which none were financially feasible or made sense as to taking back the vehicle which meant if it broke down I would be responsible for it as the warranty is no longer good.

The other option is a voluntary charge off where I release the car back to them and take a hit on my credit. Nothing else they could do for me as my family and I invested in them and they stood by us till the end when they said, "YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. GOOD LUCK." Thank you CarMax for selling me two lemons and not stepping up and doing the right thing here.

Horrible waste of time trying to sell my car at Carmax. We had a 2010 Equinox that was in great condition with 75000 miles. When they assessed my car, they listed things wrong which were totally untrue: damaged engine, doors damaged, not running right, etc. They gave a trade in price of $3000. On Kelly’s the trade in minimum is $6000. We walked out, but what really pissed me off is that as we were walking out, Matthew, the saleperson we were assigned, told us not to have anyone test drive the car if we wanted to sell it at a higher price. Like the car was going to break down. Well, after we left we posted our car on Autotrader and we were able sell it for $7700. And the car did not break down on the test drive! I would avoid Carmax and not trust them, whether buying or selling a car. AVOID!

Bought a car at CarMax in Brandywine last week. Was encouraged by Anna that we didn’t need to test drive it because it would take much longer to finish the transaction, we had 7 days to return it if something was wrong. So we purchased it. On the drive home the windshield started cracking. We stopped and inspected it and noticed a small, circular area where it appears a rock had hit it, but the area had a sticker placed over it. A rock hadn’t hit it on our drive, so it appears CarMax but a sticker over it to hide it. As this was preexisting, we called CarMax the next day, and the first time were hung up on. Then we called and were told told to call back when the manager was in.

We called back and explained the situation and was told to submit to our insurance. We don’t want to submit to our insurance due to the fact the rock chip was there when CarMax sold it to us (and covered with a sticker by CarMax), plus insurance requires a deductible paid out of pocket. So we told them we were bringing the car back to return it, and they backpedaled and said to call back the next day. We called back and the manager won’t be back until May 20th. So now it’ll be past the 7 day return window! I’m sure they put us off repeatedly on purpose so it would be outside of the 7th day window. Meanwhile the crack has been getting worse and worse. So upset! CarMax needs to fix the crack because it was there before we bought the car! Stay away if they won’t take responsibility for the cars they sell!

After researching online, I discovered a forum that suggested I look into the cabin air filter. I did and what I found was shocking. Rat droppings!! Yes, it looks as though rodents had eaten through the filter and built a nest or den there. Photos attached. I almost lost my lunch. The thought of me breathing this in for the past few weeks while I sit in traffic is gross! Thanks a lot Carmax. If Carmax associates were the best they would take care of a friend of mine’s son who bought a CRV in White Marsh with a vibration right off the lot that only required a 3 hour fix/computer update trust me I have had a CRV and that’s all it needs to fix the problem, so this has turned into Carmax still having the car after a month with him using a brand new car for a loaner car which I’m sure Carmax needs back. So management and employees are giving them a total run around with the entire thing when it should have been just a simple fix from the start. He hadn’t even made the first payment or even taken delivery of the car yet shame on CarMax to take his hard earned money. Co workers and other friends aren’t going to Carmax ever again! I’m spreading the word and letting everyone know this place has no customer service and to avoid at all cost!

AAA towing provided photos proving that it was not like that when AAA dropped it off. Also, I have photos showing that it was not as well. CarMax stated that CarMax towed vehicle into shop. I found the SUV I wanted to test drive - a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium with 30k miles, online. Requested the transfer and the salesman called to set up an appointment. When we arrived at Carmax the salesperson was not available and got the financing person to take us on the test drive. She couldn’t even locate the vehicle in the lot. We walked all over then she asked us to wait inside until she could locate it. We really liked the vehicle and decided to go through with the purchase using my pre-approved loan from JSCFCU.

Carmax wanted the bank drafted immediately but it was Saturday and the credit union closed at 1. Zadi then proceeds to tell us that we need to return to complete an application through Carmax or else she has to put it back on the lot. We were already putting more than half the amount of the vehicle as down payment and she then proceeded to write a “quickie" contract for the remainder at 4.9% for seven years - ridiculous! I felt pressured and forced to sign this contract but I really wish I had the guts to just walk out. I love the vehicle but I hated Carmax's high pressure tactic. Will certainly not recommend Carmax to friends or family.

Ok, it's this simple, they will take your 10,000 dollar car, give you 5k for it, lump the other 5k you owe onto their car they're selling you. Their 15k car is really worth 10, so you're overpaying by 5k plus. Now add back in the 5k you owed on your car. Now you're at 20 grand for a 10k car. It's that simple, wholesale for your car and 110 percent retail pricing on ALL of their cars. Ready for the kicker, they'll give you better financing than anyone because it's in house financing AND they'll charge you a daily interest rate, making about half your monthly payment interest only. Confused yet? Disgusted yet? You should be...I will never buy from them again and will steer others away from them any chance I get.

Carmax's employees take forever and a day to get back to you. Since you have to request a transfer instead of just being able to pay for said transfer it usually means that the car you were looking at gets sold out from under you. For a company that centers around cutting out having to deal with a sales person, you have to deal an awful lot with lazy employees who try to sell you cars you're not interested in because the ones you want get bought out from under you. In short, pick your poison.

From the beginning this was looking like a 5 star review. Everything from the greeting to the streamline approach to selling a car. We bought a 2017 Ford Fusion on March 7, 2019 and when we went out to the bay we found a nice big yellow ribbon on the car. Then we walk up to the car and it's filthy. I asked the salesman what's going on with this and he said they run it through the car wash and that's it. Water spots, smearing, couldn't see out the windows. They were so bad. This really surprised me since they really seem like they have the car sales process so streamlined. All they need is some chemicals and a detailer and this could have been a five star. Very upsetting. My recommendation, don't sign until you look at the car after it has been "cleaned".

Very poor customer service. They have no ability to speed up a request once it is a second request. They do not seem to understand that owners have the right to hold insurance with whomever they please- and it does not have to be integrated in their 'Carmax' system.

Beware of CarMax's finance policy, time it carefully if you are going to refinance. The cars are priced 5% above the 110% of the allowable finance rate and to refinance you will have to put down approximately $1300 on a $22K vehicle. In addition, they lower your score by approximately 10% if they are financing which can push your rate up. Consumer beware.

Three months later, the van has all the dash lights on and intermittently stalls within 15 mins of starting the vehicle. Call CarMax and get the sob story that "if you purchased extended warranty..." Given that they sold my wife on all the care they take in their extended, quality inspection, why would someone expect to have issues with a "thoroughly inspected car" with 32,000 miles on it?

CarMax service personnel also said they couldn't promise us a courtesy car while they reviewed the issue. Took the car to a trusted local mechanic who confirmed this van needed a new alternator and battery (a $900 repair). Alternators should be expected to last for roughly 100,000 miles, and what kind of "thorough inspection" doesn't identify an alternator or battery issue? I suspect we have have been the victim of a bait and switch, with factory parts being removed and replaced with older, used parts. I won't' trust CarMax again. Now I'm worried of what other issues will be popping up next. Frustrated and unsatisfied with CarMax.

I understand very well the entire process and expect wholesale figures. HOWEVER, when their price comes in more than $7000 under what a dealer will give me tells me something is wrong with Carmax system. They definitely need to get back to the drawing board. I have been a huge fan of CarMax for 10 years. I have bought my cars there and directed my family and coworkers to purchase from there as well. Within the last two weeks I visited CarMax looking for a new car. My local lot had several vehicles on site that would work but had all been reserved or spoken for. The salesman suggested I look online and find something at another lot and pay to have it transferred. I went online, found a possibility, then called my local store to set up the transfer which would cost me $150.00. But before I completed the transfer transaction, I ask them to call the transferring lot and ask if the car was very clean on the inside and the outside was free of major blemishes. My local lot called me back and said the car was impeccable and accepted my money for the transfer.

In about 4 or 5 days, the salesman called me and said the car had arrived but his manager said it would be a few days before it would be ready for me to see? What I arrived to was a car that needed two full days to make the outside presentable and an inside barely cleaned. My local lot confirmed this was not a car to purchase, But my transfer fee was non refundable!

I went to my local Land Rover dealership and bought a new one. This 150.00 has lost CarMax my business today and the future. The transfer policy is Buyer Beware and customers should understand that even if the car you're transferring has been verbally misrepresented, you're not entitled to a refund. To be honest, I wasn’t even looking for a refund, but offering to bring in another car “free of charge” would have kept me as a customer. I’ve gone to Carmax through the years because I thought it was easy...but the real dealership was actually less hassle and much less crowded! And yes they found my financing and gave me the same amount Carmax offered for the vehicle I traded in. So do your research before pulling the trigger on a transfer to a lot near you!

    Updated review: Feb. 28, 2019

The Carmax in Escondido, Calif resolved all issues with my car. Thank you.

    Original Review: Feb. 18, 2019

Updated on 02/26/2019: I bought a FORD FOCUS 2016 from CarMax in Escondido, Calif. The check engine light was on and I was told it had just been services and it would turn off. Two and half weeks later I had called the salesman who sold me the car and told him it was still on. I asked him to make an appointment for me and he said he couldn't. I called the Service Dept to make an appointment and they couldn't for a week. Since I work in Downtown San Diego it hard to take off work. I called again to make an appointment to go with my work schedule and again it was a week in the future. By then it was over the 30 day warranty and I made a complaint.

I sent an email to the salesman again and he just wrote me off telling me to contact the service dept and they would help me. With no appointments available I called Consumer Affairs regarding this. I was then given a call back two days later that Carmax would take care of this. I then got a call from a manager in Escondido, finally, and an appointment was made today. Now they are asking for a $300 fee to fix the check engine light part. I will not pay this amount, or any amount. This situation should of been taken care of the night I purchased it. I feel I was cheated and lied too. They took my down payment and told me a huge lie. Me being a woman, I was fully taken advantaged of. I see this happened to another lady on these reviews with the same thing. I want this resolved.

Original review: I purchased a Ford Focus 2016 with 45000 miles on it. I was told that the car was never in any accident. Also there was a check engine light on and I was told the car was thoroughly checked out and it would go off. Since I purchased this car the inside of the car is always humid inside, when I care to drive it in the morning--when car has sit overnight. The check engine light is still on and when I call the salesman that sold me the car--he ignores me. They are not open on Saturdays and I can’t get someone to even check it out on my day offs, which is Saturday and Sunday. And they have guys working on these days.

My calls and emails are ignored and finally I have spoke to a woman in Service Dept and was given permission to leave a message on the service managers voicemail. I was also told that I needed to pay for all this mess on my dime. So promises were not met and I feel that when I signed on the dotted line the salesman continues to ignore me and the service dept has been so busy that the timeline is now over 30 days. I want these issues fixed for free and no cost from me. They sold a car with lies and problems.

It was the day after the snow storm in Chicago, 2/12/19. As my car is warming up the doors lock while I'm cleaning off the ice on my car. My phone and keys are inside and I live alone, no one to let me into my apartment. Had to ask several neighbors before one let me use their phone. I don't have a phone number for MaxCare, so I do a Google search and get their main number for corporate/customer relations (800-519-1511). It is 650 am and their customer relations line is close. I end up going to through the finance department in the hopes that I could just be transferred to roadside so they can unlock my car.

The first rep that answered in the auto finance department could not locate my policy. I proceed to provide VIN number, make, model, purchase date, and location of purchase... She couldn't help me. She then offers to transfer me to roadside assistance. They also tell me I have no coverage. Now my neighbor has to leave and I am basically told I don't have coverage. Too bad. They wanted me to pay out of pocket, which I don't get paid til Friday, I even offered to call her back when I get in the car and am able to locate the contract number, she said NO.

At this point I am left alone outside, it's already been 2.5 hours I've been stuck outside, my legs were cold, feet numb. I ended up having to crawl on the ice, mud and snow through a small window into my apartment, which lead to me hurting myself. I was able to get inside after breaking the window to my apartment, I immediately called my boss and called back to MaxCare. I then get to a rep Lynette who is able to confirm my coverage within 2 minutes.

At this point I am upset, as I could have died outside, had to break my window to keep from possibly freezing to death. I had no numbers, no phone, no other way to get in touch with anyone, I explained this to the rep who was sympathetic. They assured me they provided feedback to the reps that handled this so poorly. Then I ask, what about me? I'm over 3 hours late to work, can't stop shaking from the cold and the pain, had to break my window all because your reps couldn't help me with something I paid over $1200 for at the time of sale. This was the whole reason I purchased it, in case of an emergency and they didn't abide by their own contract and left me stranded.

Don't waste the money if you need roadside assistance. They will leave you to die. Get a real policy with a real company that is reliable because Carmax Maxcare is not it. I am still awaiting a response on compensation as initially I was told no. I will update this when I get more information. Anyone with a class action lawsuit, please contact me. I'm ready to sue for my pain and suffering. I can't even explain how many times I cried on that day, the pain in my body, and now the massage therapy I'm in to try and help this pain, while CarMax breaks their contract and feels they are above their customers.

When a third began to act intermittent we took the car back again and in a post repair test drive the Carmax mechanic said he heard some noise under front end while driving. Turns out they found all kinds of issues with front drivetrain. Torn boots was what puzzled me and then he went on to say it was worn so bad they was metal to metal contact. This was at 46K miles. Mechanic joked with my wife and told her it was due to rough roads. We were the second owner so I cannot speak for the first but during our ownership the car has never even been on a dirt road.

Something this severe was not caught during a Carmax inspection does make me wonder what else they missed. Thankfully I bought the extended warranty as this was a $2500 repair to a practically new Lexus. We returned to Carmax a couple months ago to discuss the issue and they provided no help in resolving the complaint only wanted to make more money from us by trying to buy our car back for a $13K loss to us. Also note Carmax does not use CarFax reporting. They use some other service that is less reliable. On our purchase their report show (1) minor parking lot encounter while the CarFax report shows (2) accidents. I will never use Carmax again and I advise anyone else to beware of this dealer!

I will NEVER do business with CarMax again and I suggest you think twice before you do. The return period policy is much too short. In my case I co-signed for a loan with CarMax to help my son get a car. The return period policy did not allow enough time for his insurance company to get back with him with the new premium amount. Once it did and we discovered that it would be prohibitively expensive, we were forced to return the car. He had the car for 30 days (we had first brought it back after a much shorter time) and we are being charged over $2,000 for his having had the car for one month.

I feel like I have been robbed, no really violated in a most inappropriate way. So my caveat is that one go into such a transaction with eyes wide open because you are going to get royally SCREWED like I did if you have to return the car after 5 days. I used to have some confidence in this company, but no more. I am on my way to the dealership now to receive the proverbial rubber glove treatment. So, I walked out.

Additionally, it had a nonstandard blanket covering the turbo. Your guys from the service department told me that there might have been a problem with heat from the turbo blistering the paint. I ow 14 on the pos and its worth like 3. they have attempted to fix a hissing in my dash for a year now .

I was told, "I never heard a car make this noise," then I was told it is normal. I had a wheel fall off while my husband was on the highway, they fixed it as a courtesy. Funny how another wheel just came loose this past month. Same wheel they took off to inspect it in the beginning of December. Then come to find out at some point the wrong lug nuts were put on the car but they fixed it as a courtesy to me as the customer because apparently the fact that they took the tire off not even a month prior they didn't notice someone put the wrong lug nuts on, or what about the first time the tire came off, or what about the fact you guys have done work to my car around the wheels multiple times in 2 year, 5 or 6 times actually and no one noticed the wrong lugs were on it?

Or maybe the fact that this was your fault and there are lives at risk when the wrong lug nuts are on a tire. My 5 kids, the child I babysit and all of my girl scouts that have been in my car, mine and my husband's and anyone else who has been in my car or hell the road around me their lives were all actually at danger if the wheel that fell off the first time would have went flying on the highway, or if it actually would have came off the second time all 5 kids were in my car!!! But thanks for your courtesy!! Then I had to argue about them fixing the transmission after it was already a problem I brought up and was told it is nothing. They had my car while fixing said transmission for 3 months. I was told it was a transmission rebuilt. They actually put a used transmission in it. Oh and when I got the damn thing back after 3 months they broke the damn radiator so it had to go back again!!! And you guessed it that didn't get done right either.

They busted the grill near the radiator and never tightened the bolts and I could go on and on and on with this car. It was as in an accident. We didn't know about till I got it appraised at a Chevy dealer so make sure you ask for the facts. Make sure you see them!!! Have they tried to fix the issues? Yes they have and I get it. I got a used car but there is no reason for this. You guys drag this out so long. Telling me twice you were doing 125 point checks or whatever to the point that it has been 2 years and now that I have just had it with the car and I want out of it I'm told, "The best you can do is trade in value." You have been very courteous so far so without a lawyer (which I have a consultation with tomorrow) I am going to get nowhere. You guys sold a faulty car. Just make it right.

I'm not asking for a lot. All I wanted was for you to come close to what I owe as a trade in so I can afford to get out of it. I know it is used and I drove it for 2 year. I also know that when you leave the lot the value decreases but I also know had I not trusted you with your pointless 125 point checks I would have tried to get out of this car a lot sooner and I wouldn't be here!! Guys if you are looking for a used car this is not the place!! Do your research. I wish I would have!! I will be in touch with the lawyer again tomorrow. I will be doing a review through the BBB. I will be posting on every outlet I can. I don't want anyone else to go through the nightmare that I have!!! I bought a F-150 truck from that in June of 2015. The second day I had it the alternator and battery died (that should have been a sign to return the truck, but unfortunately I loved the truck by them). I've had nothing but PROBLEMS with this truck. I've had to replace the battery and alternator twice, replace TRANSMISSION ($3,000), AC broke, replace catalytic converter ($700), spark plugs and wires replaced (500+), just to name a few things. And now they say it needs a new engine! I paid for an extended warranty when I bought the truck b/c it was a little older and I wanted to make sure I had coverage if something broke down.

In August of 2015 was the first time I complained about the "ticking" noise I was hearing. My AC was broken too. The receipt for the work says "could not hear ticking noise due to AC being broken." REALLY? They didn't even attempt to find out what was causing it. Every time I brought my truck in there I complained about the ticking noise and it feeling like it's going to conk out. Now the warranty is expired, and of course now they hear the noise and it's the engine. But they won't fix it under the warranty b/c they said I had to bring it back within 60 days of the service. But THEY NEVER FIXED IT AT ALL!!! They are shysters and try everything in their power to not fix something.

The last time I brought my truck in there they said it needed new spark plugs. So $500 later my truck was worst than when I brought it in. My new mechanic said those are the worst spark plugs on the market that they put in, don't belong in an F-150 and would have ruined my truck even more! When I called her and complained about how my truck was worst now after they put the spark plugs in, she told me, and I quote "that was just a jumping off point." Really? So I had to have them replaced the very next day after Carmax supposedly put them in. It's very frustrating dealing with them. They should have fixed it under the warranty, but they know it's an expensive thing to fix, but I bought the extended warranty for that reason! I've spent over $10,000 in the last three years trying to get this truck to work and it's still not working!

I am looking for a 2007-08 Toyota Solara Convertible. Carmax had one in Las Vegas so I pushed the button to get it sent to Santa Fe NM for $250 so I could look at it. No response so I called and asked about the car. They told me that they didn't know if I or someone else had a hold on it. I was never called back and the car went back up for sale so I asked for a transfer and never heard back. Then someone from the first transfer emailed and said that the car was up for sale and was I still interested. I give up. I guess that they don't want to transfer the car or I don't know. Carmax sounds like a good idea if you can get the car and are willing to pay top dollar.

I purchased a 2012 Nissan Leaf from the Carmax Costa Mesa store, in May 2016. We specifically asked, if the extended warranty covered the battery. Especially because we knew how expensive it is to replace. We wanted to make sure, it would be covered if the manufacture warranty expired. We were told yes, so we purchased the extended warranty. Now I find out today, the extended warranty doesn't cover any batteries. This is the engine of the car. How can you not cover this? We would not have wasted our money paying for the extended warranty and probably would have bought a different car.

When I spoke to the sales manager today, he refused to give me his last name. He said he could refund us, what is left on the warranty. He also told me the warranty for the battery from Nissan was for 8 years, 100,000. Not the information I received from Nissan. I received a letter, the warranty expired 5 years, or 60,000, which was October 2017. The 8 year warranty is for the newer cars. Refunding the amount that is left on the extended warranty, is not good enough. Minimum, I want the entire amount of the warranty refunded. We have bought several cars from Carmax, as has our family. That may not be the case anymore. What are you going to do Carmax, to make this right?

Every time I speak to a Representative they are never warm or welcoming.

I am in customer service as well and if I ever treated customers the way Carmax does I would be unemployed. Carmax really needs to have better training for onboarding Customer service reps. If your desire is to not help people then why apply for the position. I will definitely be letting everyone I know and as much people as I can reach to NEVER do business with this company! The lady answered the phone with a monotone voice and had a very rude tone and attitude. On the seventh day I went to look at the car and my salesman was busy but assigned another associate. The $30,000.00 car had a deep, wide scratch and a deep ding on the rear driver's side door. Carmax repaired the scratch with a brushed on paint. I commented that the deep scratch & ding needed to be filled sanded and spray painted properly. The manager came out and said the brushed on paint repair was acceptable for Carmax standards. The maintenance required light and a yellow warning light were on. No one knew how to turn it off. BUYERS BEWARE! CARMAX-6300 NW 167th St Hialeah, Fl 33104. Two Bad Experiences. I went in MAY 2017 to purchase a Car which was a Chrysler 200. I drove a car for less than a month and the vehicle started making some sort of jerking motion and the dash lit up with the check engine light on. I took the car back to Carmax service department on several occasions which patched the car in hopes that I would drive the car past the warranted miles or they simply did not care to fix the problem.

In August I took the car to the service department. They gave me a rental per contract. They called me weeks later stating the car had been fixed to come pick it up. I went to pick up the vehicle and the same problem existed. So went inside and got the sales manager whom witnessed the problem and allowed me to keep the rental. He also guaranteed me he would address it with Service the next day. Weeks passed by the service department contacted me and said the Chrysler was ready. The car has some sort of engine problem. I then made a decision that I did not want purchase that vehicle and returned it to get another vehicle which was a Kia Optima 2015.

The Kia Optima seemed to have a oil leak. I took the vehicle to CARMAX service department which seems to could not find anything wrong, then I took it to the RX & Shop and also Sunshine Kia which both have recollection of the oil leak. Sunshine Kia replaced Valve - Canister. Let me remind you this a year 2015 Kia Optima. The replacement valve was done in the year 2017. CARMAX has a service agreement warranty for mileage. I purchased the one for 75,000 miles. It is a SCAM. BUYERS BEWARE especially female buyers. The agreement is for the mileage on the dash and not your mileage usage. If you are purchasing a car that already has 30,000 miles on it is useless. You will be paying for a plan which covers someone else's mileage on the car and not yours alone.

Another CarMax Swindle for single parent female buyers like me who think they are buying protection when they are buying scams. The car makes a loud noise and stop driving past 5 miles per hour. I had the Car towed to Hollywood Kia which checked the car out and stated it was possible Engine problems. I only had this car for 14 months. This story sounds familiar. The Chrysler 200 I originally purchased from CARMAX had the similar or the same problems. I went home and pulled a Car Fact which stated that the Kia Optima possibly has a rollback on mileage and has been involved in an accident in 2016. I purchased the car in 2017.

I walked in to CARMAX and asked for the manager on duty which was **. I presented to him the Car facts along with the diagnosis from SUNSHINE Kia. ** sales manager at CARMAX did not seem pleased about my presence and he was very argumentive and appeared as if he was frustrated because I was seeking help to resolve this matter. Days passed once again no word form CARMAX or **. so I kept calling. Finally they said that there was no rollback. SO I asked to speak to service in which ** is the service manager. We explained to him the situation in which he also acts as if he is unwilling to help resolve the matter.

I asked him to tow the vehicle from Hollywood Kia so his team can check it out to see if he could get a different diagnosis. Hollywood Kia called two days after I spoke to ** at CARMAX and they stated that they have not picked up the car. I went to Hollywood Kia and towed the car again for the 3rd time which now is becoming expensive. Once I got the vehicle to the house I called to speak to ** Service Manager at CARMAX in which seemed to be avoiding my calls. Every time I called CARMAX they asked me my name. He never returned my call.

Finally I called one last time irated then ** the service manager called me back. ** goes on to speak in agitation. He stated that he could not locate the car as if it is my fault. I then begin to educate him on how to conduct customer service by first addressing the tone in his voice. Then educate him further in the sense that if he could not locate the vehicle then the customer service thing to do was contact the customer which is me and ask them if they have the correct information. Since he did not do that he failed to provide adequate customer care in a timely manner.

If I had not gone irate on the operator ** the service manager from CARMAX would have never called me back. My car would have still been sitting at Hollywood Kia accruing storage fees. This is not a professional way to do business with customers. I had to call CARMAX corporation in which worked with the Carmax so I can come to some common grounds to resolve the car situation. I am a single mother of 6 kids. With a great inconvenience from a dishonorable company. I have only had the Kia Optima 14 Months. It has potential Engine Failure.

I am out of their said warranty, out of a car for almost a month and still have a undrivable car. BUYERS especially single mothers beware. The mileage warranty CARMAX offers is a scam. You will be purchasing a warranty that covers mileage for you and the previous owner. CARMAX will not help you resolve your issues if you are a female unless you call corporate. They did not deliver quality customer service and they have sold me 2 car both with Engine failure. They are not reputable and do not have quality used cars.

I took it to a car place and they said there were no fluids in the car. They said I should get my money back. I asked them to take the car back and CarMax said no! I don’t drive a lot. I called the Sales manager again and said I want to return the car because it was not properly inspected. I said, "How do I know that the engine block did not crack." I said, "You sold me a car without properly inspecting it." The dealer said no. He said it was past the 7 days of return. I paid $10,000 cash for the car. I only drive 10 miles or more a week. I am retired. I financed $4,000 and paid $2,000 off during that yr. In July 2018, in one week I had to replace the temperature gauge for $400.

Three days later the car would not start; I was stranded in a bank lot. Triple A came to help me and said I needed a battery. It was late Sunday. Store was closed so I bought a battery from them for $245. The next week I paid $200 for the licensing tags at Triple A. They told me the car needed to be smog inspection. I paid but the car did not pass. So the repair place said to drive the car more and keep the gas almost full. Next the tire pressure keep needing air so I bought a new tire. In July 2018. I invested $1,000 in repairs. The air conditioning coils went out too. I took it to Bob Stalls Chevrolet and paid $600. All these repairs were cash transactions. In Sept I went on vacation. When I got back I had a Dr appt. in La Jolla. The warning light came on at a red light. There was a repair shop right at the same corner. The repair person looked at the car and said the engine coils were leaking.

It was a big job. It took 6 days and the cost was between $3,000 to $4,000. The car was a total loss. I had to trade it in on the spot. Bob Stalls gave me $1,500 on the trade and now I am in debt $16,000 for 2017 used Elantra from Bob Stalls Chevy dealer. Carmax sold me a lemon. They have bad business practices. I am 70 yrs old. I am single and I am seriously ill. I have very little income and now all my money is gone because Carmax is selling defective used cars. I did buy the warranty and just cancelled it before everything fell apart. I was sick and had mounting medical bills and I needed to cut back on all my expenses. I lost $14,000 on the car.

My storage locker where all my passions were stored was damaged and I lost almost all I owned. My best friend died in a motorcycle accident. All of this happened in one weeks time. I am lost for words. My whole life has been taken away from me. And I am trying to cope with all these things. I know what the people that lost everything The CA fires feel like but the federal gov. Plus private donations are going to help them. No one is going to help me. I have two master degrees and have worked two jobs all my life so I can retire. It appears to me that the issues people are stating do not fall under warranty, that is why warranty wasn't used. Warranty doesn't cover everything, especially wear and tear like tires for instance, or mold. Also, if you have issues with the smell from the beginning why wouldn't you ask for it to try to be fixed before you bought it. I have a CarMax Mini Cooper, 2011 and extended warranty and I'm responsible for things such as dim lights or tires, etc. I was going to buy a Volkswagen originally but I could tell a smoker had previously owned the car. They attempted to fix it and it was better but not up to my standard so I didn't buy the car.

The point also is that these are used cars so they are not in mint condition. Too many consumers expect when they buy a used car that it's going to be perfect. Well it's not. If you want a less hassle car buy one you can afford that's new. Certified just means that it meets standards to pass inspection for the most part. Tires are not brand new, brakes are not brand new so if you buy a car with 30,000 miles brakes still may meet standard to pass inspection in your state but you will most likely have to replace them around 40,000 miles. Same with tires. I've always owned new cars, this is my first used car but had realistic expectations, most people do not. I've never had issues with service either, although my 2011 Mini with now 94,000 has had only wear and tear issues that I am responsible for. Too many consumers think that stores like CarMax or other retail stores owe them something more than they do.

In my experience with others who own used cars from CarMax vs other dealerships CarMax service goes out of its way to work with the customer to the best of their ability. I do think that sometimes service can take longer than people would like or expect which can be frustrating but sometimes it's because if the issue is under factory warranty it has to go to the manufacturer dealer and CarMax has no control over how long that takes. I'm so sick of hearing people complain that their six year old used Mercedes needs to go in for service all the time. Many six year old vehicles, even if bought originally new will need service and things will start to break down. You have to judge the car based on the year and mileage of the car. Not have false expectations that because you bought a 6 year old Mercedes at CarMax or any other dealerships and it is new to you that it is actually new, because it is not.

They ran a Carfax showing that 2 months prior to me buying the vehicle it was reported damaged on the roof and both front fenders. That is if they report to Autocheck, after emailing back and forth come to find out from their own caseworker that the vehicle had hail damage. So they fix the vehicle, never reported it to Autocheck since they didn't fix it through an insurance company and sold it as if it was never damaged. That is Fraud. So now I'm in the process of looking for a lawyer to take them to court. Ok, so first of all - Reading some of these comments are TOO hilarious! Most of them are people who do not have their documents together, not understanding the website or just think they are getting a “new car”. These are ONLY USED CARS! Next, YOU ARE BUYING A CAR! You’re are not getting a combo at Burger King, clothes or some small item - it’s a car! It’s going to take some hours, depending on what you are getting done. Second, you have to get that mess out of your head that USED cars are NEVER going to have any issues. No matter what new age or small of miles, as the first owner or second owner you can NOT predict how they used and took care of that car. I love how Carmax reconditions their vehicles, upfront with the prices and they offer the Extended Warranty. I would only assume those people who don’t get the warranty has the most repair problems and paying thousands of dollars.

Don’t be those people giving the One Stars for service. Every Carmax car I have gotten has had the warranty and out of the 4 Carmax cars I have owned, I have used it on only ONE which saved me over 3,000$! And I only paid 150$ out of pocket. I mean, don’t bank on that Manufacturer Warranty because most of what they “say is covered” is NOT. And last - every time I’ve bought a car from Carmax, I needed proofs like income, residence and insurance. Yeah! Let me prove that I make the money I say I make, I live at the address I say I live at AND let me show you I have current insurance! It’s not hard! It’s not their fault you put ALL of your bills in your wife’s or husband's name, that you don’t have any bills and living rent free - I mean it’s THAT simple! Come on! Also - cars DEPRECIATE! No matter a month, 6 months or 6 years!

You WILL NOT get your money back on a car you just bought months or years ago. NEVER going to happen unless! You put down over 40-50% of the price of the car. That’s just common sense. And quick tip - to the people saying their car “was not saved on the website” you HAVE to confirm the EMAIL address you put on the hold! If not, the car is NOT saved! I mean you are grown people! Let’s read some instructions, accept the fact they sell used cars and have your stuff in order if you have to show proof of something!

I contacted Emily ** at Nationwide and she provided CarMax with the cleared check. CarMax contacted me again in October, stating the same thing. I said the cleared check had been sent. They said it had not, though Nationwide showed me where it had. So I contacted Nationwide again, I also asked CarMax, while this is under investigation to not report this to the credit agencies as they over and over again said it looked like an issue on their end.

Nationwide sent another cleared check and sent me a copy as well. The cleared check is quite obviously stating the bank has paid the amount in question. I had never missed a payment in 4 years. Not a single one late or short. In fact, I paid extra each payment. CarMax has since reported this, resulting in my credit dropping 77 points. It's 60 days overdue. CarMax just keeps telling me every three days that they are 'looking into it'. They have made no resolution, yet keep reporting this to the credit agencies. I had to buy another car when that one was totaled, I am not able to make extra car payments until this is settled, since Nationwide has settled it. They have paid the car, the funds left their bank and CarMax is fighting and saying the check was returned, but has no proof of this. Meanwhile, Nationwide has a CLEARED check. We have both asked CarMax to provide documentation as to the 'returned' check, they will not do so.

I am not someone who enjoys the car buying experience. Most places make it way too inconvenient to the buyer and way too time consuming. I have had my share of bad experiences at dealerships. However, CarMax Austin, TX South took it to a whole new level. I was shopping for a stylish but economic vehicle to replace my aging Range Rover that consumed too much of my income filling it with gas.

I decided I would buy a Lexus CT200h. I found one at CarMax South Austin and called to get pre-approved for the purchase so I could shorten the time stuck at the dealership. I was approved but soon after the salesman calls me back to tell me he can get me an even better deal. I listened to what he had to say and knew he was doing a simple up-sale on me but I was actually going to be better off the newer car for a few thousand more. One catch was the car was not local so I had to pay to have it delivered. I paid $100.00 for the transfer of the car having already been assured everything was ready to go. All I had to do was show up, test drive and pay the downpayment and provide proof of income.

A week later I called the salesman to check on the car and he made an appointment with me to come in the next afternoon to test drive the car and most likely purchase it. I just happened to call in. I was never informed the car I had paid to be transported there had been delivered. After the test drive I decided to move forward with the car purchase. My wife was with me but since I was going to be doing the very boring process of getting the car she left to go do other things.

The salesman then hit me with a document outlining everything I needed to have for the company covering the loan. This stupid guy has had a week to give me specific details on what was required and I asked him on several phone calls and was assured I had gathered everything they would need. Part of my income is from seasonal photography work where I average $20,000 a year. That day at the CarMax dealership I was told the bank statements had to be from the last 3 months only. So now very pissed. I walked outside to call my wife to come back to pick me up from CarMax when the salesman came out and said he was just able to get me approved without the additional income.

I asked for the details and he said the interest rate would be 5% higher, I was even more pissed. Then he told me that I would also be required to have insurance for that specific car before I could take it even though I had proof of full coverage insurance and you have 72-hours to get coverage on a new car purchase. I told the salesperson and his manager I was done with them and wanted my money for the car transfer back. I will have to wait uptown 72-hours to see if the money was refunded to my debit card. These guys are unprofessional at best and have no problem wasting people's time or money. I strongly advise to do your car buying business elsewhere.

CarMax does not sell used cars; they are in the business of selling you an extended warranty with a used car. I used to rave about CarMax. We have purchased cars there before and never had problems. Too good to be true though... This past May 2018, my son purchased a 2015 BMW, Series 3. The first month it had a "maintenance" problem that CarMax covered with the 30-day warranty. However, less than 3 mths later, the car's whole dashboard goes out. CarMax agrees to pay for the diagnostic service. We take it to the BMW dealership that CarMax sent us to and later find out that things are much worse. There are 3 oil leaks that have to be repaired as well as the dashboard, totaling $6,000 in repairs. It was stated by the diagnostician (the one CarMax paid for and sent us to) that service for the oil leaks should have been done, but was not. The leaks were happening long before the car was sold to us.

CarMax has refused to offer ANY help with repairs since we did not buy an extended warranty. According to the service manager, CarMax doesn't claim to sell used cars that are "on par with new cars." Well, I know this and never expected this. However, I did expect and trusted them to sell us a used car with normal wear and tear for its age. I will never buy another car from them and will happily tell my story to all that will listen. Recommendation is to go elsewhere.

I have been shopping online for the past 6 months for a GMC Yukon XL at multiple websites and have visited dealerships for a test drive. I was a little reluctant when I saw a vehicle that was in my price range with the low mileage that I wanted for sale on Carmax's website because I question where they get their vehicles, reputation, return policy, etc. The vehicle was located two states away and it was a $99 shipping fee to the local dealer by my house, so I figured if I don't like it I will just eat the $99 fee. I must mention that previous to this purchase I did a lot of research, test drove multiple vehicles and made offers at local reputable dealerships, but received the run around treatment and classic used car dealer line of "our vehicles are priced aggressively to sell" with zero flexibility on their overpriced tags (overpriced both on Edmunds and KBB). To say that my patience was at an all time low would be an understatement.

So I took the chance and I had the car delivered (which took two days longer than originally told which was the only downside to my Carmax experience) and scheduled a test drive. The Yukon was fully loaded, had a clean Carfax, had less than 20k miles on it, and had a 36k mile factory warranty. It was exactly what my wife and I were looking for and the price was very fair and accurate to KBB and Edmunds pricing. After I drove the Yukon, I sat down with the dealer and told him I liked what I saw and wanted to purchase the vehicle (at sticker cost) but was going to use my own pre-approved bank financing. He said that is fine, took the bank letter I provided him and in an hour I was on my way home with the new vehicle (fully detailed). THAT WAS IT! NO HIDDEN DEALER FEES, NO TRYING TO GET ME TO BUY ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICES OR PRODUCTS, NOTHING!

He did briefly mention the Carmax warranty options but I chose not to purchase one because I'd rather utilize a certified GMC dealer warranty (which I'm shopping for now) and he did not mention it again after I told him I wasn't interested. This was hands down the best car buying experience I've ever had. No haggling, no pressure, and I was in and out (they even ordered me the DVD headsets that were missing). Traditional car dealerships need to take note of my experience, like the Carmax saying goes, "This is how car buying should be!" And I am not a Carmax employee nor do I know anyone who works there. This was just a really good hassle-free car buying experience that needs to be recognized.

I've read a lot of Carmax reviews and some were good and some were bad, but majority of the poor ones revolved around dealer service and maintenance which is an area I cannot speak on because I did not purchase their warranty. Nevertheless, when it is time for me to purchase another vehicle, I am definitely going to Carmax first.

I bought a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee about three years ago. Since it was a used vehicle with unknown history, I decided to purchase the extended warranty thru 100,000 miles. The car was good and I had little to no problems for a while. The first issue I had with the service department came when I needed something checked quickly, but they would not even look at it for a week. In other words, their business model does not include any ability to assist a customer in an emergency. However, because I had paid for the warranty, I was locked in to using their service department. I recently had a problem with a noise from something loose and called for an appointment. After waiting a week for them to check it, they said a strut part, not the entire strut had to be replaced. No problem, I thought, until they told me that it would be from Tuesday to Friday for the work to be done. So I had to get a rental.

They said they would call and keep me informed of the progress, but they did not. I called on Thursday afternoon and was told the parts had arrived and would be installed by Friday. On Friday I was told that it would not be ready until Monday at the earliest. I got a call after 4 PM Monday to say the car is ready. I picked up the car on Tuesday morning. On the return drive home, it was clear that the rattling noise was still there and was actually louder than before they "fixed it". Obviously no one test drove the car.

I took it to another repair place and the mechanic took a test drive with me and immediately identified the issue as something to do with the struts. Back in the shop he determined that the entire struts should be replaced. When that was completed, there has been no further issue with the rattling. In this case, Carmax service department was totally incompetent and either directly lied to me about when the car would be ready or was not able to deliver as promised. Either way, I will not do business with Carmax again, because of their service department. I do not recommend this company.

We purchased a used Prius from Carmax Riverside. There were a couple dings on the car that made us hesitant to pay the asking price. We included fixing the minor dings on the body in the purchase agreement, and were guaranteed that the repairs were minor and that their auto body department could easily fix the dings to make the car look perfect. Their first repair significantly increased the size of the ding and Carmax did not use the correct Toyota paint color! It looked much, much worse. The second repair again used the incorrect paint. The third time Carmax used the correct Toyota paint, but again, the repair looked much worse than the initial ding.

We asked to return the car and were refused a return. Carmax stated that they promised to "try" to fix the ding and that they did the best they could. You can spot the repair from 20 feet away! I wish I could have posted pictures in this review, but I was unable to do so. DO NOT TRUST CARMAX TO FIX ISSUES YOU HAVE WITH A PURCHASED VEHICLE AS A PART OF A PURCHASE AGREEMENT. I will never deal with Carmax again! I wish I would have checked Consumer Affairs to see how badly the company is rated.

I wouldn't even give it 1 star but didn't have a choice. CARMAX HAVE MY CAR FOR 9++ WEEKS AND 3 CAR PAYMENTS WITH YET AN ETA. LOT OF LIP SERVICE! Unfortunately I did not read reviews when I was in a desperate need of a new car. Purchased a 2014 vehicle w/ 30000 miles in Jan 2017. Fortunately I also purchased the extended warranty. My car has been back 4 times re: transmission. The first couldn't find anything, 2nd time they "said" it was a recall on a sensor. Tranny was no different. Called again. The service rep told me to take it to a trannny place and pretty much leave them alone. I purchased the extended warranty. NO YOU FIX IT. Brought it back again...and this time they did FIND that it needs a new tranny at 44000 miles! Wow!

Needless to say they have had my vehicle since mid August 2018 and today is October 3 2018 AND STILL NO CAR! I Spoke to the manager of the store who called me per my request and was totally clueless! Kept asking me the questions he should have been explained to me. For example he kept asking me over and over when the ETA was? Really? That is what I want to know. Very disappointed had not reviewed file or dates and was worthless! I then reached out to customer relations in VA and got a hold of Garrett. He too was worthless! All he did was pat himself and CarMax on the back...he kept telling me "the service department contacts you every day (not true) and you have a loaner car." Really? I purchased a car that has been at Carmax now for 9 weeks and 3 car payments!

They offered to appraise it and purchase it back...right! I purchased the car to drive for the next 10+++ years NOT to sell it in 18 mos. I would be SO UPSIDE DOWN! Reached out to Garret again today, Oct 3, 2018 and he had the audacity to tell me I have no money into it...not the repairs CUZ I bought a warranty BUT I DO HAVE MONEY INTO IT!!! Garrett hung up on me so I reached out to the executive response team/Jeremy with a promise he would get back to me by the end of his shift today 7pm ET. It is NOW 8:40pm ET... HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM HIM...IMAGINE THAT!!! I also noticed an AWFUL lot of rust around all the inside metal. Flood car? ALL I CAN SAY IS NEVER EVER BUY FROM CARMAX!!! RUN RUN RUN. I'd probably buy from a private party next time.

UPDATE ON 10/06/2018: Picked up car yesterday and drove home. Went to leave just now and all I get when I turn the key is a ticking noise --> battery dead? I just bought the battery in April! STAY AWAY FROM CARMAX. NOTHING BUT LIP SERVICE! Though I did get a box of brand new Weathertec floor mats that were in my back end... Too bad they're not for my make or model. THEY ARE SO SCREWED UP. I was also promised they would do an appraisal per their suggestion. Guess what... after having for 9 weeks no appraisal!!!

I purchased my vehicle from CarMax in May of 2018. The day that I purchased it I needed to return it. There were many issues regarding no headlights working, flashers not working, wipers not working as well as instability of the rear end and electrical problems stemming from the stereo. I took the car back on numerous occasions they always told me that they could not duplicate the problem, and returned the vehicle to me. I have been locked in the vehicle in temperatures above 98゚along with my grandson. I have recorded all of these things of being locked in the car not starting, slamming into gears, airbag light going off, and finally the car had to be flat bedded back to CarMax at the end of August up 2018. They have claimed again the day could not duplicate the problems.

CarMax has had my car through one car rental and for loners, there run me out of a serious exam membership in are on my 2nd membership, only to find out that not only were the rotors bad the battery was bad the headlights were bad but now it's the transmission! I have been trying to return the car to them using their 5 day return policy and they have not yet returned the car in. Give me back my money. I have reported CarMax is well as the Jeep 2014 to the national highway safety and transportation department, I have reported the problems to Jeep Corp, as well as CarMax is corporate office.

As of today's date September 18th 2018 CarMax still has my vehicle in a shop having repairs done while I continue to make my loan payments and I am in a vehicle that is just as sub par as the vehicle I purchased. I cannot prove my allegations when I say this but these cars that they sell are coming from flood zones the bodies are straight and clean they Buffum out and pressure wash the undercarriage but if you look above what's pressure washed you will find all rust. I have found that on 4 separate vehicles!

I say buyer beware CarMax is a rip off that has mechanics that are not certified as master mechanics they of management that is not knowledgeable of anything that they speak on I strongly recommend reading all reviews from employees versus customers do not buy from CarMax if you value your ride, your safety, and your money! This company is a rip off nationwide. The big number of theirs is $17998. There are haggle free price which is usually 4 to $5000 above market value! Also the vehicles that they sell besides not functioning properly looking prop pretty they push the warranty on you. That warranty if you insist on buying a vehicle from them you're going to need that warranty that will add about 3 to $4000 on to your bill. Without doubt warranty you're going to be spending a lot of money in a very short while to clean up the mess that CarMax just sold you.

Again I say buyer beware get your own Car Fax because CarMax does not use them do your research on all vehicles that $35 you spend today may save you the headache and heartache in the fear of what lies ahead. Again I purchased my car in May of 2018 and they have had my car most of the time. It is September 2018. They again have my vehicle. The car has caused considerable damage to me as a person, my grandson. Have put fear in us. It nearly killed us and CarMax doesn't care! That is not how you run a business! As far as CarMax is concern once the sale is over it's goodbye to you! Don't buy from CarMax if you can avoid it you are better off at a corner lot it's safer cheaper and you'll have a lot less problems.

Find something you like then go to that auto manufacturer dealership. You will be able to buy the same vehicle, brand new, for not much more than the used Carmax version (really inflated prices) then the dealership financing is better and will save you thousands. My cousin recommended Carmax so I went online, applied, got my approval for the amount I was willing to spend, walked in the store the next day signed paperwork and walked out with my car. This second time, that same car was in a wreck and was written off. I knew it would be some time while the insurance company did their part but I applied for the amount I was willing to spend to not be in a rental for too long.

Toya at that location worked with me for just about a month while I waited on the GAP insurance to do their part. There was never any pressure. She answered every call, email and text message I sent. I finally had every thing resolved and texted her the night before to come in and see the cars I had saved online. I went in and she was as amazing in person as she was over the phone. I inspected the car I decided on and every thing checked out. I also referred my grandmother who recently moved to the area to that same Carmax and she had a great experience also! Get the GAP insurance! It's a few bucks extra but definitely worth it!

Yes, I was approved all 5 times by a leading bank. I visited the dealership to pick up the 2014 Audi A6. They put the yellow bright bow on it after they washed it, then all staff told me congratulations!!! We finished all contracts and legal paperwork. They gave me 2 sets of keys, shook my head and me and my son walked out the door with the dealer to leave in my new car. The manager then peeped outside the door and told the dealer "I need to speak with you".

After approx 10 minutes, the manager pulled me into an empty quiet room and said, "I hate to do this and I don't have a reason why, but Carmax has every right to refuse service to anyone." My face dropped, we walked out of the room and I walked outside to the furthest peak I could find. I walked to the edge of the premises and even though I'm trying to quit smoking... I lit a cigarette. For the first time in years I had that blurred vision, I couldn't see 2 feet in front of me. I am carless due to my beautiful previous car being totaled this year. But my inner self said, "Give up, you're headed even lower."

Another part of me said, "Suck it up. You been strong for so many years." If you lost so much including a human life then what can Carmax do to you? It's not the car I realize, it's just getting very hard for me to stay strong and keep receiving blows. I didn't know a car dealership would put me back in tears... heavy tears. They are basically saying, "No 'cause we don't like you... you deserve nothing. Here's more to that curse that you have against you." I sit at this desktop and cannot turn around right now to show my son that I hurt too, that I'm not the supermom that he thinks and sees of me. Do not buy a car here... I bought a 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have had for a year and a half and the electric system has went out in the hybrid battery. When I brought the car I got a warranty on the car that was 60 months or a hundred thousand miles. I myself have not put that mileage on the car but they said because I had over a hundred thousand miles my warranty is no good. So now I'm stuck with a car that me and my family could here hurt driving because we could get electrocuted, lose my brakes and etc... Find another place to buy a car. Thank You.

Be aware, you may think that the salesperson has ordered a transfer of a vehicle you wish to purchase and have been qualified to do so. However you find out days later that a sales manager can cancel that sale and transfer if they so chose. Even if Carmax company policy says they cannot. Then you get to spend days trying to get a response as to why. Good Luck.

STAY AWAY!! Unless you're desperate!! My husband & I paid to have a vehicle transferred from Carmax in Midlothian, VA to Carmax in Newark, DE ($149). We drive an hour on a Sat. to get the vehicle. After getting an approval we had to provide paystubs, proof of address, etc. I had everything with me. The sales lady took my docs & handed them off to another woman that came up to me & asked me if I was able to contact my boss, who's an attorney & only has myself & 3 other employees that he pays. We do not get direct deposit, our checks are prepared with taxes taken out & shown on the paystub & the check is attached below. I rip off the perforated check & cash it.

I then deposit it into my account. She asked me if I could contact my boss for him to get a copy of his bank statement showing the cancelled cashed check that went through his account? WHAT? REALLY?? Because the paper my husband's check/direct deposit voucher is printed on & my paystub/paycheck, they just didn't feel the same, she said. Well, NO KIDDING! I work for a law firm with a total of 5 employees, including the attorney & my husband works for a commercial construction company with 40++ employees & there's more than 1 way for an employer to pay employees! She then went on to tell me, that there wasn't any watermarks on my paystub.

I held it up to the light & there was watermarks all over the back of it. THEY ARE A JOKE. AND I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY THINK THEY HAVE OVER THERE, BUT THEY ARE A JOKE!!! She was basically telling me, "I don't believe you!!" I've been at the same law firm since May 2013 & NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE, not even my mortgage company, questioned my paystub but Carmax does & wants people's bank statements & wants you to go online @ their store & pull up/print out your bank statement. That's MY personal info. Why would ANYBODY be willing to pull up their personal info, like a bank statement on their COMPANY computer system??? I DONT THINK SO & IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO EVEN ASK A CONSUMER TO DO SUCH A THING!!! I posted a pic of the back of my paystub to show the watermarks, which were pretty difficult to pick up on camera. But if you look @ the lower left side, you can see them.

Last week I recommended CarMax to my son who was looking for a 2017-2018 Camaro ZL1. I thought they were a good company, so, he found a car, did the financing online and was approved and got five offers. He was pre approved not pre-qualified. So he selected one of the offers and we went into the Merrillville, IN location to sign the papers and give deposit. When we got there then that when everything change. He was told that his deposit amount went up by $800 and we accepted the new deposit. After sitting for over 2 and half hours. The sales manager Ken came back and said that CarMax decided not to do business with him. WHAT?? I never heard that before so, we asked why and he said no information was given to him and to call the 800-519-1511 consumer relations.

I was so confused because we were approved by the finance company and had done everything that asked for and he said it wasn't the finance company but Carmax. I requested to speak to the Business office Manager Kristin ** and after a while she finally met with us only because I had someone from the 800 number and they had never heard of the denial reason. All the analyst and finance department said it was the store not them. I kept the consumer relations analyst on the phone while I spoke with Kristin.

They said no reason was in the computer system. Then Kristin tried to explain to the analyst it just happen the analyst Darren said he had to look into it and I knew then it was a cover up. I stated that looking into it meant him and Kristin had to get their lies together. Kristin refused to do business with him. I explain to them that the Equal Credit Opportunity Act requires that they verbally or in writing tell us the reason for the denial. None was given and was told that they don't have to and they can refuse to do business with anyone at any time. Darren the consumer relations analyst stated that my son was banned from doing business from all CarMax. Why when he never purchase anything from them before. They treated him had did something wrong. Why would they banned him?!?!

Even the sales rep thought it was racial and kept stating the Kristin was the reason we was waiting. I believe it was racial, my son is **, young and make a very good income and she assumed he was lying. Yes, I'm upset because I knew he was discriminated against. He told no lies on application, had all paperwork, insurance proof, and deposit. Also we contacted the finance company and they said my son was approved for the 58k. My son is no bum, he's married over 7 years, two kids and purchase his first home. Yes he even got a home! Everyone knows getting a home is one of the hardest thing you'll ever do. So why the refusal to do business from CarMax? Something stinks!!! Why no reason given. If this or something like this have happen to you let me know. I know he can't be the only one!

This was early Sunday (22nd July) morning, and I was able to put a hold on the vehicle to have it transferred to my location. Next day (Monday 23rd July) when I went to the local CarMax in Mobile, Alabama to pay for the transfer, I was told, the car is being shipped to a different location for someone else.

The strange part of all was that a sales associate (Patrick) called me from the California location same day (Sunday) afternoon to ask me about my plan with this vehicle. I explained it to him that I was looking to transfer the vehicle to Mobile, Alabama. According to the website of CarMax, all holds are guaranteed for seven days. Since then I have called the local store, the California store and to a customer service number 1800-519-1511 and spoke to an associate name Garrett who was very helpful and told me he would get back to me, but again I have not heard back from anyone.

As a business owner, I understand mistakes happen, but you have to own up to it, admit that there was a mishap and try to resolve it the best way possible, but in this case I think the corporate strategy is to ignore, refuse, show no admission of wrongdoing and give customers plenty of runarounds so one would get tired and stop contacting them. It's been three days and I have made 7/8 calls to various customer service department. Even went on to their social media and sent their Rapid Response Customer service team emails but I have yet to hear from anyone via any media.

Carmax appears to be no different than any other used car lot. I took my 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 to Carmax to get an offer. They offered me 8k. The night before I valued the truck on KBB.com and came up with a trade-in value of 11k, and that was using the ‘good condition’, which the truck is actually in ‘very good condition’. When I questioned the discrepancy between KBB and what Carmax offered, the agent actually went on KBB to see for himself. While he was entering the information, I noticed he entered the sub-model as Tradesman. I told him the truck was not a Tradesman, but an Express. He said according to his appraiser it is a Tradesman.

To his surprise, I produced the Carfax, from the Dodge dealer that I bought the truck from, showing it was indeed an Express, which would account for the 3k difference. The agent maintained that he had to go by what his appraiser said, even after showing my Carfax to the appraiser, and started talking about some built in tax savings if I bought a car from them. Needless to say, I left. It appears that they low-ball you when purchasing your vehicle and then sell it for approximately 20% above what other similar vehicles in the area are selling for. Typical used car lot, but with friendly people and a large sales center. Would not sell nor buy a vehicle from these people.

My wife's Tahoe was totaled in an accident. We looked for about a week for a replacement. Another Tahoe or Yukon with low miles was what we were looking for. I checked out the local Carmax and found a 2009 Yukon SLT 1-owner with 70,300 miles. It was in our price range so I called and spoke to a salesman about it. I asked him specifically to look at the vehicle for me before I came down. I was interested in knowing if it had dents and scratches, if the underneath of the vehicle had any corrosion damage or visual rust. He called back about half an hour later and assured me there were no dents or scratches and the underside was clean and free of rust.

We decided to go take a look. when we arrived the vehicle was being washed. no biggie. We waited and the salesman finally pulled it around. the inside was perfect. unreal how nice it was, the outside looked good at that point. We drove it and we're happy. Went inside did the paperwork, cut them a check and went on our way.

Upon getting home, we started noticing things: The CD player would not stop running when the vehicle was turned off and the doors were open. Scratches and a small ding over passenger side rear wheel well. Perfect circle scratches that were deep from a go-pro mount or similar type suction cup used. Here's where it gets good. They say they do these big inspections, etc. The front brakes were shot. Pads were very low and at some point the low brake pad indicators were cut off. not sure when this happened.

They did a horrible job cleaning the Yukon. Heavy black buildup all over roof, like the vehicle sat under trees all the time. So the wife and I started really cleaning this thing. I removed the floor mats and discovered a damp carpet and moldy smell. Removed the sill plates and lifted the carpet up and BAM!!! Mold and water!!! It has been there for a while as well. The smell was horrible and then we noticed overspray all over the plastics around the carpet inside the vehicle. It was deodorizer they were trying to cover the smell up with. Keep in mind the vehicle history report they have posted on the vehicle shows no damage, wrecks, etc. It was a one owner and from our area.

I called immediately and talked to the salesman. Told him the problems and he was apologetic. We were then told it would be 7-10 days to get our money back. "NO IT WILL NOT BE," was my answer. We stopped payment on the check, returned the vehicle without any issues... which was nice. This is just a heads up!!! Don't believe advertising and don't trust this company's service, detail, or vehicles. Make sure to have a good mechanic look at the vehicle before purchasing. Now the search is back on...

Imagine my surprise when 6 years later I go to sell the car and the State informs me CarMax never released my lien and so the car is not officially mine to sell. I called CarMax and they told me yes, they can see that my account was paid off in full, but they cannot correct their error because the account is too old and will need to mail me a form to take to the DMV in person, which will require me to take a day off work and waste my day for their error. Absolutely unacceptable.

I will never buy a car through CarMax ever again and will advise my friends and family to avoid them. The car was fine, but it is 100% not okay to receive payment in full on the car and not take the 10 min to file the forms to release the lien. I cannot believe I am having to fight over the ownership of my car that I paid for 6 years ago. This is a really huge oversight and I will never purchase through them ever again. The price may be good, but they cannot manage to follow up with some pretty basic details, like releasing the lien on a fully paid vehicle. I too was looking for the minus star. I decided to purchase a vehicle from CarMax last September. I was excited about my purchase. It was a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, with 50k miles on it. Just like anywhere else the salesperson trying to up sale everything under the sun, I decided not to get the extended warranty, I'm thinking 2012 and it only has 50,000 miles very clean it should be good for a while, needless to say 8 months later I find myself having engine problems. I reached out to CarMax to see what they could do, since it's only been 8 months from purchase, they said call Dodge and see about manufacturers warranty.

Unfortunately the powertrain warranty had just expired two months prior. I reach back out to CarMax since I paid them $30k for the truck, and the factor of pre-existing issues on the vehicle, they were kind enough to tell me to go ** my self, the repairs on the engine will start at $3k and no less than $7k. Buyers beware. I understand that there is a lot of variables here nevertheless is $30,000 that I paid for the vehicle I did not expect them to fit the bill 100% but to try to find a happy medium.

Since they claim to be a reputable company and they are not the only ones in the business, any of us could easily purchase a vehicle from someone else, so I say to you CarMax take care of your customers or someone else will. To this day the truck sits in the garage. For one the expense and two finding a fair and decent repair shop, that is not going to do the same as CarMax. $30,000 8 months from purchase to the tune of $7,000 worth of repairs can you say pre-existing.

Since then they have done everything get this car repoed again. After looking into my car the two previous owners both had it repoed as well and CarMax ended up with it back in their possession. Hmmm, a little strange right?

I have a recurring payments on my account but CarMax locks my account which means they just don't do your recurring payment and make you call in. It never fails, I have to call in every time and when I do get a person they say they fix it, but it happens all over again the next month. To top it off they have limited customer service hours so it is difficult to call in to get your account unlocked. This company is a scam that puts people in cars that look shiny and new. They lie to your face and say it was a fleet vehicle when it was from an auction they bought it back from, charge the person before the remainder on the loan, then sell the car again, and try to make you miss payments so they can take it again. I am starting to wonder who has made it through a whole loan with CarMax?

After looking at a few vehicles we were interested in, we returned to the lobby where we received our appraisal. This is where things took a drastic turn! We received an appraisal for our 2013 Cadillac SRX of $8,000, that's $7,000 BELOW KBB. Take note here, not a scratch or ding on the car, interior in perfect condition and miles within normal range. Accident free and clean title. Appraiser stated that vehicle had a transmission problem and hesitated shifting gears between 1st & 2nd.

We tried to explain that this was Cadillac's Adaptive Transmission Control System and advised them to look it up! An Adaptive Transmission Control system recognizes individual styles of driving (e.g., aggressive vs. relaxed) and adapts transmission shift parameters accordingly. They would not even listen to our explanation and stood firm with their offer. Apparently, the "no haggle price" goes for offers as well. We sold the vehicle two days later for $8,000 ABOVE Carmax appraisal, to a dealership that knew and understood exactly what we were talking about. We will never return, nor will I advise anyone to give Carmax a try. That offer for our vehicle was a complete insult.

We purchased a Nissan Maxima through Carmax, the first one we had the timing chain went out on it, they stepped up as sold us a lemon and we picked another Maxima. Only to find the issues are worse and worse and worse. Service is **. (excuse my French). There is a service advisor at Carmax in Tolleson Arizona named Mike. Guy is highly unprofessional, disrespectful and doesn't know when to watch his mouth. We brought our car in to have a timing chain issue inspected. Two mechanics have told us the timing chain is going out and causing noises. The car is still under warranty so we took this to Carmax. Mike and the mechanic refused to check to see if this was the issue. The check engine light was also on, they never ran for a code to see what it was, they immediately cleared it out so it is unknown.

Some wonder the frustration right? Well we had the car in the shop back in December and January because of these issues (December and January that's twice) and this being the third time. They can't get the job done, they want to do what they want to do and not what the customer wants. It is business I get that, but refusal to check and see, a joke. Two different mechanics have said timing chain, two separate shops and one happened to be a Nissan Dealership. Carmax refused to even inspect it. They did however put us into a rental car, 7 days. They kept the car and parked it and never once called to tell us the car was ready. Sat for almost two days, therefore they did not pay the full 7 days of the rental. (Communication is hell, extremely unprofessional, we called and they never returned our calls) If you have an opportunity, do not use this dealership. Waste of time, money, and your life.

After our experience last year (see below), I was cautious giving Carmax another chance. But, I am in the market for a used car for myself and they, unfortunately, have the best selection. I started the process a couple of weeks ago while I waited on my bonus and asked for a vehicle to be brought over to test drive. I was contacted by John, who received my inquiry via their web page. He got the car scheduled to transfer (which took quite a long time for being so close...but that may be logistics). While transferring, I went into the Dayton store to look at some other vehicles. I went in without notification and was not surprised the John was with another customer, so they put me with another employee. Fine, no worries, I didn't tell him I would be in.

I drove a couple of cars and then left, noting that I would be back that weekend. Again, no set time, so he was unavailable, no biggie, I tested a couple more. The next time, I did tell him I would be in about 7 on a Friday. I had also requested another vehicle. I called later that week because I had not heard about the transfer, where he told me that he had not seen it and would get it processed (I don't know how he could have missed it). I told him I was coming in Friday with my wife to look again and get her opinion. Surprise, busy. Now I am with the third person (whom always go through the same script, "what kind of car are you looking for, blah, blah, blah). Do they not add this to my profile? Do they need to keep asking? Well, the test drive went okay, but again, no John.

This happened the next two times, always with different people. Finally, the other car was in and I told Victoria (his second) that I would be in at 10 am Saturday (6/2). I go in and, guess what...no John (he was on a charity walk) and no Victoria. In the meantime, the guy at the front desk saw John coming in and said he would let him know I was there. I told him I would be in the lot browsing and to have him meet me there or call. At 10:45, I had had enough. I went back in and John was sitting with other customers, I guess appointments mean little to the Dayton store and of course still no Victoria. I told the desk guy I wanted to speak to a manager, and he said he was one. I informed him of my extreme dissatisfaction with the process (it mirrored last year) and told him that corporate WILL hear of this and I would go down to the Cincinnati store (40 min out of my way). Monday, I will make sure they do.

With the prices they charge I expect a few things in return from Carmax: Clean mechanically sound cars, a clean showroom, and exceptional customer service. The customer service at Dayton is not even mediocre, The Cincinnati store was the exact opposite as far as service. IF, and that is a very big IF I end up buying a car again from Carmax, it will be because of the Cincinnati store. I will be talking to corporate, and you better believe that I will go out of my way to warn others looking for cars in Dayton to stay away from Carmax, Dayton.

Up until today, I have had a good experience with Carmax. I bought my Genesis from them and could not be happier. However, our experience this time while shopping for a car or SUV for my wife has been less than acceptable. I had them bring a Kia Optima EX up from Cincinnati to test drive. It went fine, though I have worked with three different people now, but it was fine except for a seat heater that was not working. I requested on their website, later that night, for a Murano to be brought over from Louisville as the one they had was a base model. I received a call today from one of the three people we have talked to that 'management' was balking at having it brought over. We've had one other car brought...from 35 miles away...and it's their policy all over the website that they will do this, with no commitment. IT’S ON THEIR WEBSITE AS A POLICY.

They, according to the caller, say we've drive too many varied cars (it's my prerogative to find what we like, correct?) and even apparently thought I had asked for those cars to be transferred (they were on the lot, and it shouldn't matter it's their policy, with a happy freaking face). So, in summary, it does not matter how many cars/SUV's we've driven, it should not matter we asked for two from close Carmax dealers to be transferred, it should not matter if we are looking at cars AND SUV's. What matters is they have a corporate policy, they need to stick to it. If I had asked for my 5th car to be transferred, sure, that seems excessive (though not against their policy), I didn't...just two. Will I buy now? Maybe, but they will need to win my business back.

We recently bought a car at Carmax. We have nothing but the worst experience with them in less than 30 days. We purchase our car on 4/5/18 and has been in the shop for 2 different times. It all started when we bought the car and there was a noise in the breaks. The salesman told us that because the car had been sitting in the lot for a while the noise will disappear in a few days Which it never did. I took the car on the fifth day where we ask to return the car and they automatically send me to the service place to check the car. They wanted a opportunity to check the car which they did and I was carless for a day. The next day they call me to pick up the car. They said they order new parts for the breaks and it might still make noise.

I took the car and once again the noise in the breaks got worst. I drove the car for about 2 weeks and again noise did not go away. I wanted to be fair with the situation but then we had another issue going on with the switch to start your car was not working. After multiple times the car will not start. I have a video where it shows proof of what I had to go through every time I turn on the car. I went back to Carmax to express my concerns. The only response I got from the manager, "You have to understand this car is use and you get apples for apples." I feel discouraged after our conversation I felt she was only giving me excuses. She has been by the worst person to work with. So after I took back once again the car. They let me borrow a loaner for 4 days! As you can understand my frustration of buying a car and having to use another that is not yours. Yes we try to pursued to appraisal the car which was $1000 less for 30 days.

We didn’t move forward after we realize we were going to lose our downpayment, pay an extra $1600 and give another payment which was ridiculous. To top it off my credit score went down with the first purchase, which they still rerun my credit again. My monthly payment would have been $100 dollars more. Completely understand the car was $2000 more. After we notify them we were getting the other vehicle and we were staying with the car. It took them an hour and 15 different employees to find our keys. Once the car keys were found and we turn on the car we found out once again the breaks were still making loud noise. At this point I will never be taking this car back to the service team. Worst experience with the staff and service team. Will never recommend this place to anyone.

I purchased a used vehicle from Carmax in August 2017 at the White Marsh, MD location. One of the first questions I had asked was if the car was in an accident previously. The salesperson, Kendra ** assured me that it was not. She then touted the low apr financing that Carmax offers, including an offer as low as in the 2%. I had already received financing from Bank of America before I got there, but was intrigued because she kept stating the 2% rate that Carmax offers - it beat the 3.99% rate BofA offered. So I went through and received an estimate for Carmax financing. I got the results back: 14% they said. When I showed my surprise at being quoted such a high figure, Kendra began laughing, as if I should have known better and I fell for her joke. I was incredibly irritated but at this point, was desperate for a car so I went through with the purchase.

Four months later, a family friend offered a deal on a brand new Honda Civic that I couldn't turn down. I went to trade in the piece of junk from Carmax (which, it turns out, was truly a piece of junk), only to be quoted a low buyer price because it had been in an accident! The person inspecting the car said it's very obvious to a car salesman that it was in an accident as the paint job to cover it is shoddy and the damage on the inside is very noticeable. He also told me it was straight up highway robbery what they sold the car to me for. So Kendra had lied to my face saying that the car had never been in an accident, and Carmax needlessly jacked up the price of this vehicle to a trusting customer.

Needless to say, after this experience, I have been telling my family, friends, colleagues, strangers, my grocery store clerk, anyone, about my horrendous Carmax experience and to never trust this conniving company ever. Also, I drive a brand new Honda Civic now. TL;DR: Do not go to Carmax for anything other than to be laughed at your expense and to be swindled out of your hard earned money.

I went to Carmax with my grandson to buy a car, he decided to purchase a Ford 2011 Mustang, he had a fix it slip to get his windshield fix and a noise was coming from the back brakes. Carmax never took care of the items, the windshield was chipped in the front of the car, and until this day it has not been taken care of. Call several times to the maintenance department. They continue to tell him they are waiting on a new one to come in, I find this action very deceitful and horrible, and not good customer service, I am thinking to sue them in court because I was there when they sold him the car and have witnessed more than one.

My husband I and two boys have been searching for a family vehicle to upgrade to for quite some time. We landed on a sweet Nissan Pathfinder at the Greenville CarMax in South Carolina. It had all the bells and whistles for half the price new. It was a 2015 with 67K. We test drove it with the stereo off for a brief ride around "The same loop we test drive our vehicles on." (their words) and arrived back at the dealer lot. We gave it a thorough once over and noticed 1 new tire and 3 worn tires "That meet their quality standards." (their words again). We were very pleased and excited about having a brand new, barely used vehicle only 2 yrs. old that we thought would last us until we drove it into the ground. Upon return to the mountains in Asheville I notice a little jerking when coasting downhill immediately. I thought maybe it was the tires or the road, WRONG. It was the CVT transmission.

My husband drove the car around town the following day and experienced severe knocking, jerking and slipping of the transmission immediately. We then began to research the Nissan Pathfinder to discover lawsuits and multiple transmission replacements in many versions of their vehicles, only for the replacement transmission to completely fail again as soon as 20,000 miles. We immediately were LET DOWN. The car of our dreams was too good to be true. Customer service was good over the phone. The return part was easy as we brought it back on the 3rd day. Just signed a piece of paper and gave back the keys. I'll get my down payment back via check in the mail. Complete lack of a quality inspection into the vehicle. Their test drive around that little loop wasn't enough for the person selling it to Carmax to get caught selling them a vehicle I'm sure they knew had a bad transmission. Without a dealer code, how are they to know?

What pissed me off the most is the sales manager after I told him he should take the car to the dealer and have them check the transmission. I told him it was apparent, and he said, "Well sometimes people think there is a problem with the transmission when there isn't one." Yeah buddy, we just think we felt jerking, slipping of the gears, a revving engine and wiggling while slowly pressing on the accelerator. I'm not keeping a $25,000 lemon. I will continue my search elsewhere.

When I got the vehicle, my wiper blades were old and the back hatch electronic windshield wiper to this day has NEVER worked and this was supposed to be a certified pre-owned vehicle. After the initial 5 days of having my car things started going wrong within the 1st 30-days it broke down on me, long story short, the car was in the shop a total of 3 times just the first 30-days of having it, I was sold a lemon and the dealer did not care and would not give me any kind of deal on getting into another because clearly it was bad business.

Further down the road, I have extended warranty which I paid extra for, I have already had to go out and pay 250 deductible once to have the car repaired, I have a tedious hassle to get a rental until I finally complained enough to the Katy location. The manager was nice enough to give me a loaner. I am a single, hard working mother and don't feel I deserve the bad business deal I got through CARMAX. NEVER AGAIN.

My advice for those who would like to purchase car at Carmax. When I purchased my car in 01/29/18 Lexus IS 250, the sales consultant was in hurry and by the time I finished talking to insurance it was already dark. I did not get to drive or test drive the car because when I arrived to Carmax it was already 6 almost 7. The sales consultant was a little rude, she seemed nervous like she was rushing to get things done. Little did I know that this car has a few issues - first the tires was not balance and air pressure for the two front was way off, something underneath the car like alignment that cause the car to shake a little bit, headlights was off and on, navigation was defective. I called Carmax and address them these issues. They said it's fine, bring it back to them and they will take a look at it. I took my car to Carmax on 02/16/18 and I did not get my car back until 03/14/16. Almost 1 month.

They did fixed the tires, rotate the tires to balance out, replaced new headlights, new rims (the car no longer shaking), they replaced new navigation. However, when I took the car back home, navigation menu doesn't work so I had to call them again. I told them the navigation menu button doesn't work and it needs to be fixed. I took it to them for the 3 times and they said the new vendor will order a new menu button to replace it. I took the car back home, I noticed some white dots spot on the side of my car, on top of the car and on top of the back trunk. Called them immediately to report the problem. They said bring back to get it check.

I also found out that when the vendor that fixed my navigation did not do a good job because when they replace with the radio/navigation there is gap in between like the navigation doesn't perfectly fit like it was before. I told them it was not like this before and they said because of the clip that couldn't hold onto it. I told them it was not my job, it's their job to make sure it clip and fit without gap. As angry and frustrated as I am, I am sick and tired to keep taking my car back and forth because they didn't do a good job fixing my car. The headlight still have issue and navigation doesn't look like it was before. I am not responsible for this damage and I hope you CARMAX will do something to fix this problem.

Around March 2018 this year, the rear tires made a significant amount of tire noise. At this moment I attempted to get the two rear tires replaced at a COSTCO tire service department. On my discovery, I was informed by the COSTCO tire department that they're only allowed by OEM standards to replace my tires with OEM run flat tires. I called Carmax Memphis TN service department explained my situation asking for immediate assistance since I had only just purchased the vehicle which Carmax said was one of their certified vehicles. They said I would have to make an appointment to bring it in but they didn't know when they could get to it. They didn't offer any hope of getting my vehicle back within the next week or two. I haggled back and forth with them asking not to put me at the back of the line but they would make no promise.

I took it in Wednesday 3/28/2018. It sat all day, and no one called me with any update though they promised they would. The next day I called them, and they couldn't tell me anything but did call me back and said it would have to be taken to the local Dodge dealer for repair. They didn't know when that would happen. I called back Friday morning after I had not heard anything, and they still didn't know anything but said they would call and get back with me. They called me back to say it might get put in the Dealer's service department that afternoon to check it out. They promised to call me back, but did not and have not so far.

I've read many complaints about Carmax in general and the Memphis store especially, and noted several posted with the same or very similar issue as I am having with Carmax of Memphis. I received my notice from Carmax Financing of my first payment coming due in a month and I am wondering if I will even have my vehicle back or a satisfactory resolution to my complaint by then? Take my advice. DON'T buy from Carmax especially if you're expecting service after the sale. They focus on selling you a vehicle and getting you off their lot, but don't call with a problem or need immediate service. It WON'T happen!

I took the car in to get serviced 2/27, I was told it would be fixed by the weekend. I was called Friday 3/2 and was told the car parts took longer than expected to come in, so it wouldn't be ready until that Monday. Monday 3/5 I was called and was told that another issue appeared to be wrong with the car, and because I was under the 5 day return policy, seeing that the policy was put on "hold" while the car was being serviced, I had the option of returning the car. I returned the car Tuesday 3/6.

The return agreement stated I would have my down payment returned, (which I have not yet received), and that the car loan would be returned to the loan company and that the loan would not appear on my credit report. 3/9, I went to a different dealership and I was not able to get a new car because there was an open auto loan account from the auto loan company through CarMax, even though CarMax stated it would not be... I called CarMax and the loan company American Credit Acceptance (ACA) and was constantly going around in circles with them, calling back and forth, being put on hold for hours, and the loan still appears on my credit. I tried to get a payoff letter saying that the loan was returned and I owe a $0 balance, but I was not able to receive one for some unknown reason.

I returned the car 3/6, it is now 3/15 and I have been without a car since I returned the car to CarMax. I have Sickle Cell Disease and Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis, I have doctor appointments to go to, I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up medications, etc... I have been using Lyft/Uber for transportation seeing that I am not able to walk long distances to ride the bus. I am a long-term substitute, I work with pre-k autistic children and I'm a college student. I desperately need a car to get to and from work and to run my errands. CarMax has been no help whatsoever! And they created a giant mess for me! I am highly displeased and irritated.

I put my VIN number in myself and selected the worst Car options available and even that was significantly higher. In addition, the salesman skimmed through the car facts very quickly, and we had to ask multiple times for him to scroll back. In doing this we found that the vehicle had a recall on the airbags, which he was going to fail to mention. In addition, I called them out on the Kelley Blue Book discrepancy and they became very defensive and started attempting to hurry us out the door. There is no integrity with this company, at least not at the Daytona Beach FL store.

I cannot begin to describe my anger and disappointment at CarMax, in Roseville, California. On their website, they had the exact car I'd been looking for-a 2012 Ford Fusion Sport, with only 3K advertised miles. They were asking high blue book plus, but with such few miles, I was more than willing to pay a lot more. When I called to verify the miles, they said yes, that was the original miles. Having bought a car two years ago from the same dealership, I felt good about the car. I drove about 70 miles, one way, with every intention of buying the car. I had a certified check for about 30% of the down payment with a credit score of 818. When I arrived to look at the car, it had 29,000 miles on the odometer.

I pointed out the discrepancy to my salesperson. I told her that I did not want to pay their asking price given the fact that the car had over 25,000 more miles than advertised. She asked me to wait and she would speak with the manager. After about 20 minutes, the manager came over and told me there was nothing he could do. He told me that once their cars are priced, it cannot be changed. He also said that the website was mistaken, but the sticker in the window was correct. I told him that because I live out of town, the only access I had to their car was the website. He never once apologized, but kept insisting it was a simple mistake. After expressing my frustration, he just kept repeating there was nothing he could do. Not once, did he ever ask me what he could to sell me the car; he could care less.

Told the ignition coil broke but now my car needed a crankshaft position sensor. Of course, I was an unbeliever but had no choice but accept it and had it fixed. Next day my check engine light goes on. However I took it to AutoZone for a diagnosis and it was an exhaust leak at downstream oxygen sensor. With all that happened at Carmax I took it somewhere else to get it repaired. Prior to getting my brakes done, I had no issues with my car shaking, or anything else. I wanted to share my experience with whoever reads these because I believe in sharing and telling good things when good things happen! I began my search for a new car 2 weeks ago, I thought of your company as my credit score is not the best but I had heard good things about your approval process. I was approved and contacted by Zach ** within an hour of sending my application. Zach was so patient with me as I navigated the website looking for my perfect car. He gave me facts about the cars as I looked and let me know about recalls and ran every car I asked about telling me the payment and all the info he could. We selected a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander and scheduled to come get it the following Friday when I had the money for the down payment.

Through the week I sent Zach the paperwork that he told me I needed to bring and he would very quickly respond telling me if it was right or if anything was missing. I explained to him that I have 2 small children so when my husband and I came down to get the car I would like to move as quick as possible as they grow ancy quickly. He did just that. When we arrived at Carmax we were greeted very warmly by many people who got us straight to Zach. He took us to see the car and we signed all the paperwork. He explained the Maxcare and the 5 day warranty to us and before I knew it we had our keys in our hands and were taking pictures with our new car with a bow on it, (such a cute touch!)

We live in the mountains so that night on the way home I was a bit concerned as the car seemed to really struggle with the hills but I thought maybe she just needed broken in. By the 3rd day we had it I was still very concerned. I called Zach and explained my concerns. He gave a couple pieces of advice to maybe help and said that if the problem continued to call him back and we would see what could be done. By the next morning it was very clear to me that this car was not going to work for my everyday Mountain commute. I texted Zach before the office had even opened and he responded almost immediately! He explained his day but said he would be happy to get us taken care of. I sent him a few cars and he pulled all the stats, info and payment info for me. He was beyond helpful!

That night my husband and I returned to Carmax where we looked at both of the cars we had narrowed it down to and ultimately choose a 2013 Ford Escape. The paperwork was done SO fast and everyone was so helpful! Stephan helped with the return part of the car and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Bobbie helped us get our paperwork done quickly and kept me smiling and laughing the whole time. In the end Zach gave us our keys, explained some of the car to us and took a picture of my husband and I with our new car.

I am so beyond happy with the Escape! It is the perfect car for myself and my family and I never would have found this happiness without all the help from everyone at Carmax! You have earned a customer for life!!! Huge kuddos to Zach, Stephan and Bobbie! This was at the South Broadway location in Colorado! I hope that this incredible experience gets back to them and they know how amazing they were to work with! Thank you Carmax for EVERYTHING!

I went to Carmax expecting a great experience and it ending up being a NIGHTMARE! I do not typically complain about my services with companies but this one was by far the worst experience I had with buying a car. I went to Carmax in Naperville, IL. The salesman Jim started off on a very positive and informative note. I had a trade in and they made me a reasonable offer in which I accepted. However after test driving the vehicle I wanted I decided to choose a different vehicle that needed to be transferred from the Glencore, IL.

I was told to come back in 4 days in order for me to purchase the vehicle. I returned after 4 days to purchase the vehicle only to be told that I couldn't buy the vehicle because of a title issues with the car. So after getting this information the salesman Jim made a recommendation of getting a different car from another location. In which I did, then I was told it would take another 5 days before the car would arrive and I could get a temporary vehicle until the car arrived. I agreed to it however each time we communicated Jim's communication started to change and he seem annoyed in which he involved the general manager Bill. He and Bill would go back and forth with the issue.

During our interaction Jim told me he would give me a discount on the service plan of 800 because of the service I had encountered thus far. He assured me there wouldn't be a problem with making that adjustment once the second transferred vehicle arrived. When the vehicle finally arrived I was told I could come up and exchange the vehicle I had, once I arrived I was told Jim was not available and they would have a different salesperson assist me.

When I walked thru the office I saw Jim and he walked past me as if he had never seen me before. He stated "hey I'm busy today working in the internet room" I found this to be really strange, but I said, "Ok no problem". So a different salesperson starting helping me. Once we got to the final sale I advised the new salesperson of what Jim had communicated to me about the 800 discount on the service plan because he could adjust the price of the car. I spoke to the general manager Bill and he told me 800 was too much and he could make it 300, I said no I was told 800 and I asked him to get Jim. When Jim came over to discuss he looked me right in my face and changed his story and stated "I do not recall telling you that".

I then realized why Jim was not helping me anymore because he was not going to honor the 800 discount that we previously discussed and also, the car payments that I was told originally had changed as well and they ran my credit each time I was there after telling me this would not have any impact to my score or credit, in which it did. The dishonesty and customer service I was provided was by far the worst experience I have EVER had and I have bought many cars in my life. I will NEVER go to them again and I recommend my family or friends to not buy from them as well.

Was looking for another car. Saw a 2016 GMC Terrain. Sat down with the salesperson to get more info. We are both in our 80's. Next thing I knew we were handed the keys to the car and directed out the door. Nobody explained anything about the car, we went back into the showroom and asked for assistance. How do we do this, how do we do that? We were told to buy an owners manual. Drove off in a daze, "What did we do?" Two days later we went back, the car is not what we wanted. The salesman smirked and hid behind a column. Shoulders were shrugged by the management. I wrote a poor review, someone called and wanted to make it right... Well, here we are 7 months later, I still have a car that we both hate and it never went any further... Our credit union told us they were several thousand dollars over on the price according to the BlueBook. Be careful who you deal with.

Updated on 04/12/2018: I went to Carmax in SLC in July 2017 in search of a used Honda Pilot. A salesman named Brandon greeted us at the sales floor door, He rushed us into his cubicle and the sales pitch began. Let me say up front that we are 80/81 years young. Next thing we knew we looked at a GMC Terrain, not our ideal car, back into his cubicle and started answering general questions (we thought) about what financing we'd use and etc. An hour later we were ushered out into the garage area where the Terrain sat with a big yellow bow on it. Confused, we tried to explain that we didn't want that car. Brandon was nowhere to be seen, everybody vaporized on us and we drove out in a car we hated. Went back the next day. Spoke with a manager, explained what happened, all we got was a deer in the headlight look and shrugged shoulders.

After making several trips back to Carmax trying to return the car, we were hooked up with a new salesman who promised to call us when a Honda Pilot came in. Eight (8) months later we still hadn't heard from Carmax. I made contact with another dealership that had a car we were interested in. In talking about trading the GMC in I was asked, "how bad was the accident you had with the car?" Huh??? We didn't... Well the Carfax (that we were never showed) told a different story. The car had to be towed from the accident scene and was sold at auction to Carmax for $8,000. It was a 2016 Terraine. They sold it to us for $23,000!!! I requested a copy of that carfax. That same afternoon we sat in the manager's office once again at Carmax with the carfax in hand. They finally agreed to take the wreck back.

The only Honda Pilot in their system that met our requirements was in Florida and it would cost us $1,000 to ship it. After haggling over who would pay for it to be shipped here, we reluctantly agreed to pay it. Car arrived, we took ownership, I wrote Carmax headquarters and told them how unfair I thought we had been treated. Garrett, from the head office called me, told me to get in touch with Matt in SLC. I spoke with Matt and he acting like the big businessman he thinks himself to be told me pretty much, "Tough, you aint' getting the $1,000 back." Why didn't no guts Garrett just tell me, it would have save me a phone call. Carmax is dishonest and untruthful. I would never buy from them again and will warn everyone to be careful who they do business with.

Everything was going great! I got a call yesterday from the Tinley Park, IL location that I was approved for the car I wanted. They told me who I was going to be financed through, the interest rate, the monthly payment amount, and the total buying amount. I was then on the phone periodically throughout the day with Joe ** (my salesman) and he gave me the VIN number so that I could set up the insurance so everything would be smooth sailing. (He's the one who suggested I set up my insurance in advance.) I went in last night to have my boyfriend look it over and for both of us to test drive it. They also had me print out the documents that were needed on the computer at the front desk. I had to bring in one more piece of paper and the manager (John) asked that I bring it in the next day when I get off work (today).

I got a call this morning from John (the manager) of him reading off of a piece of paper stating Carmax can choose to do business with whoever they'd like and they've chosen to refuse service to me. I asked why as when I left last night he said, "I'll see you tomorrow and we were just going to finish the logistics." He told me he could not tell me and this is valid at all Carmax locations in the nation and this decision is final. I asked again that I wanted to know why and he said to call customer relations.

I called customer relations and they said they would do some digging and find out why. They called me back about 2 hours later saying this decision is final. I asked why. She (Devon) said she went out of her way to do the research and now she's letting me know it's final, again. I said I called to find out why and refused to give me an answer. This is absolutely shocking. I've never heard this before. I had the money, the credit, and no background. All of my documents were legit and they even had me print them out in front of them! I'm absolutely shocked. Worst company I've ever gone through.

First car from them YEARS ago great. Car I got 6 months ago, not so great for $15,000. Where to start... the day we drove it home, the speedometer started bouncing all up and down, lights all going crazy, brought it back, some screw was loose. Ok, no biggie. Then Sam leans up on the driver's side panel, right above the tire, she weighs 100 pounds at the most, and it moves. Literally shifts, she doesn't know what to do, so she goes to open the car door, to come home and show me, and the panel overlapped it and paint chipped. Brought it back, fixed it, couldn't figure out why it happened. They touched up the paint.

So this is the first 30 days, after that, I bought my car used, so it’s my problem. But I got the extended warranty, but I have to pay 95 bucks to be looked at, and to pay the 1st 300 of it. Driver side headlight goes out, fix it, whatever, as nephew is putting a new one in, he notices my coolant is basically empty, but it wasn't leaking nothing. Just gone. Supposedly they check all the fluids when they do the oil change when you buy it. Then winter comes, turn on the heat, and the motor makes a terrible ticking noise. Sam’s friend who works on cars said it the heat motor. Then the other headlight goes out, my friend says hit the brights, just to see if they work, and when I hit the brights, there's a ** clunking nose. Then, we are driving and the windshield wiper goes on for no reason. No one touched them, turned them on, it wasn't even snowing or raining. My daughter said it's been doing but didn't want to tell ‘cause I'm already hating the car.

So, I’d say DON’T GO THERE! I'm going to my mechanic Thursday, having him look at everything, then going back to Carmax and raising hell. They said they have 1 of the best car inspections ever, my car was in great shape, no accidents, basically perfect, other car companies bring cars to them to be inspected and so on. So what, did they just not inspect mine! It's a 2013, 45 thousand miles. I shouldn't be having all these problems! Something isn't right with the car. If they don't work with, I'm going to a lawyer. Every month since I bought it something went wrong or broke!

I have been looking for a minivan. I am a mother of two and I run an at home daycare, I have been looking to upgrade my current vehicle. I had sent a request for a vehicle from Carmax. Immediately they called and had the vehicle transferred. I went out that weekend December 16th, I brought bank statements, license, bills to provide address and cash down payment. The salesman was a bit awkward but people are who they are and I dont judge. Went on a test drive and fell in love. I am not comfortable in a larger vehicle but this one fit me well. The price was right and I was ready to purchase. Finished the application, and was approved.

However when going through my documents for verification, there was issue after issue. First they didn't like my bank statements because I had blacked out private information that showed. I don't live close so I drove back home, resent the bank statements. All was fine. However I didn't hear from my salesman for days. Only then to find out I need proof of phone. After many attempts to prove my phone (which is through Straight Talk so I don't receive a bill) I finally was able to receive a document with my phone information. Sent it to my salesmen on December 26th. And today the 1/3/18 just finally heard back from him after texting, emailing and calling. That "The lenders arent able to use the records as proof of phone. They have very strict guidelines to abide by". So they no longer can help me! Like SERIOUSLY!!!

So I decided to call the lender who I was financing through. They have no information on my application, and said when they need phone verification they call. And don't actually need a printed document. Wow. What a waste of two weeks, dealing with horrible customer service. And B.S from the beginning to end!!! I do not recommend Carmax in Kenosha!!!! The even most ridiculous part is I have been to the Carmax in Shamburg, and have had great customer service, a salesman who actually wanted to make a sale, and kept me updated and was sincerely nice. & Very helpful. What a joke. Now I am having the vehicle transferred to Shamburg just to purchase.

I took it to repair shop and the problem could not be resolved and the car rental reimbursements covered a minor portion of the $1100 rental amount accrued over three weeks I've paid $900 out of pocket and my car payment is $756 a month. I went to trade the car in as no one could fix the smoking and it got worse and the car consumed a quart of oil a week. They would not cover the drastic negative in the trade in for a MBZ 550 SL so I ended up hanging on to the BMW and left it with Car Max to repair under warranty on December 3, 2017 and as of today the car still is not fixed they could not find the problem and I've had the MBZ so I did not have to get a rental.

They finally sent it to BMW and the engine has to be torn down it's a $9000 job. Then I was told the warranty had been cancelled somehow which I am still paying for monthly and that it has to be reinstated. That was 3 days ago and nothing BMW wants to send the car back to CarMax and I have no drivable BMW and the warranty is in the air plus now it's Christmas so no one is doing anything yet my car payment is due and I now have an additional payment coming up on the MBZ results in limbo!

My car was totaled recently in a car accident. I was assisted by an amazing sales representative in the internet car sales department at Carmax. My initial arrangement with the original rep was to come in on my day off, check out the vehicle I had found online, test drive it and purchase it during the week to find out how much down payment would be needed to put forth in order get an affordable monthly rate after receiving a settlement offer.

The rep I was in touch with was out of the office so I was assigned ANOTHER REP by the name of Marty ** to show me the vehicle I was interested in purchasing. He explained to me that the vehicle would be placed off of hold if I didn't purchase it at that time. After explaining the situation my original sales rep and I had discussed I told him it was never communicated to me in advance that the hold would be removed if not purchased same day. Marty said the best he could do was to keep the car held till next day closing. I went online the next morning to find the hold on my car to have been removed and available to the public.

I was extremely upset and angry with Marty for removing the hold that he had said would be there till the next day and explained to him this wasn't a way to make a sale and that he has a lack of customer service he has provided. There was no professionalism and he decided to make his own call to release the vehicle to the public after he had already told me he would keep the vehicle on hold till the next night until he spoke to my original sales rep.

I honestly had to go online to physically place this vehicle on hold for myself after my horrible encounter with Marty. He is unethical, unprofessional, rude and makes his own judgment call instead of working to make a sale with the customer. There's no security and comfort provided to know that what he is saying will be really true, effective and delivered based off of his actions. I am extremely disappointed that people like him are providing services to the public on behalf of Carmax.

They said luckily I purchased the extended warranty but not so much when you have to constantly keep paying. The car has put us in many dangerous situations like headlights turning off at night and dash light turning off and on not allowing me to see anything in the car. But since I have gotten ball joints, rotors, brakes ailment, hood props were rotted out, lock mechanism stopped working, lights continue to flicker in dash, replaced fuse box, radio and I just had to get it towed because the starter went. My vehicle also had the panoramic sunroof and spoiler as well as the sport stripes that the other vehicle did not have. My vehicle is in excellent condition. When I read his review he had claimed that I had scratches on the passenger door that would require attention. I checked for myself and there was no scratches only a little bit of road dust.

This wiped off easily by hand. When I got home I called the appraiser to tell him about the vehicle that he has for sale at 17,000 and the fact that there was no dents or dings on the passenger door. He used 1001 excuses to justify himself. I’ve been purchasing cars for the past 45 years. I’m very aware about how the used car market works. But when I saw a difference of $7000 between what they would purchase my vehicle for and turn around and sell it. I knew that they were taking advantage of me or any other consumer. I thought the sales people at Carmax were bad until I met the manager. They are horrible, most employees that work at Carmax do not have car sales experience. The sales person I had I believe still lives in his parent's basement. If he moved any slower he would of stopped. He didn't care that I wanted my car that night. I picked out the car I wanted and got financed and when I told him I would like to pick it up that night I thought he would have a heart attack.

He said, "I don't think we can do that"... so I got him everything he needed to make it happen, I bought several cars from dealers and I know that they can make it happen. He just didn't want to, it seemed like it was too much work for him. So he told me to come back the next day and because I complained to corporate about the way I was treated the manager thought he would teach me a lesson, he stalled me picking up my car. I had corporate call him and he just laughed with other co workers and I heard him say that I would wait for my car since I like to bitch. After several calls to corporate they couldn't motivate him. I finally left and bought a car at another dealer.

Carmax wasted my time and had me add the car to my insurance. I put a downpayment on my insurance to cover the new car and they didn't care that they lost the sale. I left messages for Bill Nash in VA Office and he don't care about his customers. I would think the CEO would of had someone call me but nope. Stay away from Norwood Dealer and the salesperson Brian and the manager name is LT. He is the one dressed like slob wearing shorts and a t-shirt with a pot logo on it. What a crew.

On Oct 21st I paid Carmax $450 to ship a Chevy Suburban from TX to SC. My sales rep was Cory **. Three weeks to get the vehicle from TX to SC. From the initial communication when I reached out to Carmax sales to reserve the vehicle, Cory communicated he would keep me informed with text updates on the status. He did say it would take 3-4 weeks for the vehicle to Arrive. The next communication I received was via text 3 days later when he said my vehicle is finished ‘processing’ for shipment. The subsequent communication was (nearly a full week after the date I paid to reserve/ship the vehicle) when he communicated the vehicle ‘has shipped’.

On Tues/October 31, Cory texted me the vehicle had arrived but he was unavailable. We agreed to meet Monday. I went to store at 130, telling him in advance I was on way. Once we arrived, Cory informed us he 'accidentally' shipped the car to another customer who ordered it online from another store 'on Saturday' (prior).

So allegedly, the vehicle arrives on a Tuesday, 10/31 when he is off and by Saturday the vehicle is allegedly enroute to another Carmax store for a client who allegedly reserved it after allegedly seeing it online. Yet my own transfer request > ship date took 7 days. How is it this client gets next day shipping on a vehicle? I asked Cory to get his mistake corrected by reaching out to the store he shipped my vehicle to. He (lied when he) said he didn’t know where he shipped it to – this is evidenced by the fact he knew the client who ordered my vehicle (while it was still reserved for me) was ‘already preapproved’. I asked if there are other Suburbans on the lot and he said ‘No’ – mine was the only one.

So according to Cory, he can’t undo his mistake because he doesn’t know where the vehicle was shipped to have it returned while my $450 was still holding the vehicle. He has a mind to know that the Suburban I transferred was the only one on the lot. He has a mind to know the other client is preapproved and will likely buy the car. Yet he doesn’t know where the vehicle was being shipped to to correct his error and have it returned to me since I had first claim to the vehicle. He hasn’t a mind to avoid ‘confusing’ his customers to know who isn’t returning his calls and cancel the vehicle from the one customer who isn’t following thru on his/her ordered Suburban. He hasn’t a mind to acknowledge ‘there is only one Suburban on the lot and that isn’t the vehicle that aligns with the customer who actually isn’t following up with (him) so he cancels the proper vehicle rather than the one (I) had reserved.’ I understand.

I understand Cory is a pathological liar. I understand Cory is a manipulator. I know this because this and every vehicle that is reserved/shipped by a customer is taken off the internet/Carmax website the day the transfer costs are paid and I paid $450 to ship this one on Oct 21. The vehicle I paid to ship was immediately put in reserved status prevented me and any other customer viewing the Carmax website to see any data on this vehicle. I couldn't get the specs or VIN from the vehicle off the Carmax website w/in 10min of paying the $450 while in reserved/ship status.

So not only did he lie when texting me back/forth on Monday to arrange my test drive appt with him, he kept his lie up with perpetual lies while I sat in front of him and he explained how he confused me with another customer who wasn’t returning his calls and ‘accidentally’ allowed my vehicle to be transferred by another customer on Saturday – 3 days after it arrived for me (with 2 of those days of him being unavailable for me to synch up with him). And he was so incompetent it's beyond human reason -- because he literally failed to recognize he was making back to back errors and missed several opportunities to avoid causing this entire issue. That is why I believe this was deliberate.

No one could view that vehicle online as 'available' to be able to order it from Cory while it was held in a reserved status for me. Cory would have to deliberately remove my vehicle from reserved status for someone could see it online AND be mindless enough to process payment for that person to have it shipped elsewhere so it was enroute 3-days later on Saturday – all the while playing like my $450 was still reserving the vehicle for me and communicating as much.

Take your money and buy from trustworthy dealers. You won’t find any at Carmax. I tried reaching out to the leadership at Carmax to get someone to remedy this situation with this rep. Bottom line: You won’t find leadership at Carmax that cares enough to resolve the issues caused by their incompetent sales reps. You see their stock lost 50% of its value and continues to sink in value – it’s because Carmax doesn’t care about their customers’ experiences enough to hire competent sales people or hold them accountable. They don’t care about repeat business or doing right by their customers. You will only waste your time and money. Their stock will continue to sink and they won't be in business much longer. Capitalism works.

I learned in Harrisburg that my car had a lien on it for almost $500. Of course I called to gain clarity because there must've been a mistake.

In October of 2017 I was told so many lies by various agents of Carmax that I couldn't keep count. They kept saying, "Well our records don't show that we gave you a payoff quote, only that you called. And because it's been 2 years, we can't listen to the recorded call". I said, "Well isn't it funny that you're admitting I call YOU on 8/26/15 about a payment, and isn't it funny that just 5 days later you received a check for the car IN FULL? Where did that number come from? Did I make it up? NO, I got the number from a Carmax representative". I also said that just maybe, the person tying the notes didn't fully record what was discussed. But again, not my problem. The facts are clear that if there was still a balance, the mistake was on Carmax because I attempted to pay in full based on a number given by an agent. I then asked for them to rectify this balance based on their mistake and fax a letter to Harrisburg that the lien is released.

I mentioned that in the last 2 years after you guys received a check for over $15,000 there was no correspondence. They said, "We tried to call and send letters". I said I have never received a phone call or letter. At this point, I wasn't saying they were lying, just said I didn't get it. I don't answer iPhone "scam likely" calls. Maybe that was one of them. I also received ads to buy a new car. But the fact remains and was confirmed by rep of Carmax: 2 years ago they received a call from me about a payment, 5 days later they received a check in full. The guy then says well maybe charges accrued after the quote was given. Really? Almost $500 in 5 days!

Finally, after almost 2 full hours of communication, I was bullied into making a payment to rectify a balance that was not my fault. One guy had me on hold for 20 minutes, came back to the line and hung up on me. I was already on hold on my fiancé's phone trying to get someone to help me. I asked the guy who took my payment to fax a letter to Harrisburg to release the lien. He said the payment hasn't posted. I said, "But you just gave me confirmation, meaning you have your money"! He said, "It takes 1-2 business days to finalize the payment and then we can send the letter to release the lien". This was said on a Monday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon I called and spoke with a lady to verify the payment was received and clear. She said, "Yes". I said, "Great! Can you fax a letter to Harrisburg stating the lien has been released". She said, "No, that takes 2 WEEKS!" The guy on Monday said 1-2 business days. She said, "We can send you confirmation that it was paid". I said, "I can look in my bank account to see that. I want what was told to be 72 hours prior". She would not comply. She then goes on to LIE and say, "Well ma'am when you called you said you needed a letter sent to your bank". I NEVER said anything about a bank!

So now it's absolutely clear to me that Carmax agents say one thing to me and type something different in their "notes" and make up lies. She said that the "notes" on Monday doesn't state that. Well guess what? On Monday I was told, since 2 years had passed, they can't pull the call. Now only 2 days have passed. Pull the damn call and verify what I'm telling you. I was on 2 different phones since someone hung up on me but I'd gladly give the phone numbers for verification. I am highly dissatisfied with the level of service. Clearly Carmax made a mistake and won't own up to it. I want a refund and my title sent to me IMMEDIATELY!

I just purchased a 15 Honda Accord 8 days ago, and I began to notice that this car is burning too much gas! I then called to the Carmax to find out when was the last time that any maintenance was done on the vehicle, so the lady told me there hasn't been any maintenance done on the car since it came to the Carmax back in June? Why wasn't anything done to the car before it was sold? Let alone it's such an inconvenience because I had to drive an hour to get there!

I spoke with the service manager and she told me to drop it off and they will give me a loaner. My thing is first of all it's an huge inconvenience and let alone I haven't had the car 30 days to enjoy it and it's back in the shop which is crazy, not to mention Carmax only gives you 5 days to decide on the car, which sometimes you can't detect if something is wrong with the car in the time frame, so thereafter you are stuck in a car that you will be paying for.

Carmax told me they are not able to get to my car until next Thursday which is crazy once again, they are that backed up on repairs! They haven't offered any compensation for my troubles or inconvenience and no I will never consider or recommend anyone to buy a car from here! While I was dropping my car off there were 3 other people there with an similar issue with the purchase of their new cars within the past week! It is ridiculous that so many people are back to have their cars serviced because Carmax failed to obtain the maintenance or repairs of the cars but press to make that car sale, it's an awful shame. I am disgusted behind the whole entire process and will never buy from Carmax again!

Was hopeful about this appraisal because they are selling a car of identical year, make and model for $13,999. My car has more features. Appraisal offer at this CarMax: $6,000. Not only that, but this is nearly $2,000 less than what I owe my lienholder. Therefore, I would have to actually PAY these crooks $2,000 for them to profit an additional $8,000. Of course I will not take them up on their "offer." This should be illegal.

I told him that I I am looking for financing Taurus from other dealer, then he said that they only finance their cars, so I said then no need to continue with the application. Then he got angry and suddenly the sweet voice becomes a demonic voice so rude and started to cross his limits by saying how can I say I only want to buy only Taurus and that I have to buy a car from his agency. So of course I started to feel offended toward my privacy and it started to be very obvious that he is ready to be disrespectful just to make some profits. So I told him, "well this is the only car I am looking to buy and I do not want to buy other car so if you do not have I will not go for any financing," then he a very rude way he said, "Well then OK."

From his intonation and so disrespectful manner of answering I knew that time that this agent will be running my credit even though I told him I will not go for financing just to make a hard inquiry to harm my credit score, until that point the credit was not yet run because after I close the call with him I checked my credit many time through Karma account and was showing that no credit been run.

The next day which is today Oct 10th suddenly I received email saying that my credit been run, when I checked it was their agency!!! I called and told the reception that I will complaining and disputing the credit check without my permission, he also started to be so rude and refused to give me the agent and he close the phone while I was complaining of what they have done. I will be disputing the credit... STAY FAR from these hypocrite non professionals people, they are willing to do anything even illegal things.

Please stay away from them selling you a warranty from TWG or MAXCARE. This is the first and I hope the last time I have to deal with this joke of a warranty. This all started when my van broke down and I had to take it to the repair shop. The first day the van went in around 8:30 in the morning. At that time they started calling to get authorization to do the work, but never could get hold of anyone from THE WARRANTY GROUP. The shop was on hold for 30 minutes each time, keep in mind this is a repair shop that don't have time for this. I called several times myself and was on hold for no less than 45 minutes each time. It took the repair shop until the next day to get the authorization to do the work. Once they got the authorization (more than 24 hours) they got the work done.

At the time of me writing this review they still not gotten paid for the repair and I still have not gotten my van back, and it now 6:30 in the evening on day two, and the repair shop is now closed. I have the rental car allowance of $40 per day, but you can’t use it until they give authorization for the repairs at this point it's been 5 days (with the weekend and Monday as a holiday) and still no van and having to pay for my own rental car. I can't put all the blame on TWG, I also put the blame on CARMAX for selling this crappy warranty. If I ever buy another automobile from CARMAX they better not talk to me about TWG. Like I have heard before, it only take one bad experience to spoil it, and this has been a very bad experience.

After a successful engineering career I retired in Reno, NV. I was restless staying at home, so I decided to take a job in car sales. I answered an Internet ad for a sales position with CARMAX in Reno, NV. The ad specified the existence of several openings and I thought that I had a good chance to get a job there. I sent in my resume and 3 days later, I was contacted by phone by Jess, CARMAX HR Manager. She asked to come for an interview on Friday, Aug 25, 2017. On Friday, I checked in at the reception and I asked for Jess. I was told to wait in the showroom, that she will come to meet me momentarily. After waiting patiently for 56 minutes, I got up and asked a saleslady passing by if there was a problem with Jess... The saleslady went to find out what was going on and 10 minutes later, a sales manager came up and informed me that Jess was not working that Friday.

There was a mix-up and the CARMAX person at the reception forgot to tell anyone I was there, waiting for an interview. I went to meet the store manager and I calmly expressed my dissatisfaction. I was given a new date for an interview on August 29. I went for the interview again at CARMAX and Jess was available. I interviewed with Jess and with 2 other people for 2 hours. I answered many scripted questions from the interviewers. Having a lot of experience in interviewing people, I was surprised by the fact they had absolutely no experience in interviewing. They were simply reciting a scripted questionnaire. Subsequently, I went through a mock sales scenario. After answering the questions and simulating an actual car sale, the interviewers seemed impressed and I was led to believe that I would be getting the job.

One day later, I received an email stating that while my credentials and interview was impressive, they decided to hire someone else. I am very disappointed with CARMAX attitude. If this is the way they act with a sales candidate, can you imagine how would they treat a customer looking to buy a car? In my experience, the hiring process of a potential employee should be done with the same respect you show to a customer. This is not what I experienced at CARMAX.

Disappointed in Carmax, bought 2 previous cars from them never had a day’s problem other than regular up keep. Unaware of any problems until after paper work was signed. I ask Carmax to let me exchange cars and they said my time to do that had expired.

I was not aware of any problems beforehand. So now I am just stuck. Not telling anyone not to shop at Carmax. When you do be an educated buyer, get the car checked out by someone you trust before signing on the dotted line. They used to be the best people to buy from but not now. Carmax is not going to care and they will stick you with a piece of junk as they did me. Just saying Carmax has gone downhill not like they used to be. Buyer beware when buying from Carmax. I purchased my previously owned GMC from Carmax in King of Prussia, PA on October 15, 2016. I was very excited when the time came for me to drive my car off the lot. It was everything I wanted, minus the technology package; however, I did not care. I was in love with the car itself. Not even a year later and my joy has turned into disappointment. In June of 2017, I started experiencing loud rattling noise coming from the engine. I took my car to my mechanic and was informed that my catalytic converter and manifold were damaged and would need to be repaired. I called GMC customer care to inquiry about any warranties that would fix my car. According to the representative I spoke with they found a warranty that would fix my catalytic converter. He sent my information to FC Kerbeck Buick GMC in Palmyra, New Jersey.

Three weeks passed and I did not hear from the representative from FC Kerbeck. I reached out to the contact he listed, John **; however, John was not available or the person I needed to speak with. The representative also gave me a reference number (**) that no one at FC Kerbeck knew anything about. I was finally sent to a Jason ** who scheduled to bring my vehicle in on July 24, 2017.

After viewing my vehicle, I was informed that repairs were needed to the manifold and it would cost me over $1,000 to fix. This is very unsettling given that I have not had the vehicle for a year. I was contacted by Carmax, who reached out to me regarding my complaint email. I spoke with an Janice **, who asked me to come in and they will see what they can do for my vehicle.

First complaint I have about their services offered through Carmax is, Janice switched my time around and I wasn't aware of this. I arrived to the Carmax location, only to discover I would have to wait 3 hours before my car was even looked at. Janice did try to rectify the situation by giving me a loaner car at no expense to me. She told me that repairs to my car would cost me $400. I was still upset at the price, but after a week of moving some bills around, I decided to move forward with the repairs.

It took Carmax over a week to receive the part needed for my car. I was told that it takes 24 to 48 hours, then I was later informed that they did not finish the process in ordering and there was still some paperwork that needed to be submitted. Repairs were finally completed to my car on 8/24/2017, for a lower cost than anticipated. Janice informed me that a code popped up on my car, but it was a pending code that I shouldn't worry about and it should go away.

Less than 30 minutes of driving my check engine light came on and my car was right back to the way I left it. Nothing was fixed!!! Besides the noise that my car made (which can still be heard) just at a lower volume. I called Carmax and was told to bring the car in again. This is a ridiculous back and forth process that is costing me additional money. I told Janice I feel like I have been sold a Lemon. Her response was, "it is a 2011 and this is why we offer our warranty package". There was no urgency taken in place for my vehicle and very poor customer service. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM THEM AGAIN.

The dealer said it was and I took my wife down to drive the car again. We drove another car on the lot too for comparison purposes but we preferred the 300. I told the dealer we were very interested and he took my information. I did not even bother asking about a hold since the prior dealer told me I could not place a hold on the car.

We came back the next day (less than 24 hours later) and the dealer told us he was helping another customer but that he would be with us in 15 minutes. Meanwhile, we walked outside to look at the car and it was gone. We asked where the car was and we were told it had been transferred. My wife and I could not believe that in less than 24 hour they transferred the car and did not even bother calling us. The dealer we were working with did even know the car was gone and did not appear to care much. They are obviously unorganized and do not communicate internally and they do not appear to care much about customer service. Dry rotted tires, bad brakes, electrical problems that required 4 battery replacements for the engine, two for the accessories, wire harness, alternator times two, voltage regulator, splash shield, amp, vario roof and the list could go on. So much I was told to stop emailing, which was my paper trail. They have made it sound as if I was at fault when it was the piece of junk they sold me. Continued to tell me just bring it back and I did until after this last time which cost the company almost $10,000.00 to repair by the dealer. The area supervisor explained that I do not seem to ever be satisfied therefore they will not service. Of course I am not if work is below par, incomplete, not done at all or not standing behind a promise. More so I paid over $45,000.00 for this vehicle in full including an extended warranty with a $450.00 deductible. I reiterate that the majority of the problems were brought to their attention within the first two weeks after purchase which was during the 30 day bumper to bumper store warranty.
