AAA left me stranded by the roadside on the FL Turnpike from 6 PM to midnight three years ago. And when I wrote to them reporting the incident, they sounded very casual, as if that was really no big deal, and that the only thing they could do for me was to credit the roadside service (not the $$$ I paid, just that "service") to my account. They are a horrible, antiquate company and have no regard for customer service.

I've been a member of AAA for about 3-4 years. Sadly The membership was canceled with a "non-renewal" that I was not even aware of. They would not give me a reason of why it was cancelled. All they said is that they reserve the right to terminate at any given time. The service was very downgraded over the years. It used to be good. You call them when there was something wrong if you need it a tow, a tire repair, battery charge. They would show up around 30 minutes later maybe an hour. Nowadays it takes them 2-3 hours. I didn't really complain since at the end of the day I still need it the service and I had to wait a long time. I was very polite and friendly with the people that show up to do my service.
So my problem would not be with the employees, but with the actual corporate/company since they just decided to not renew my services. And again I was not aware of this. We were in need of their services and when we call them they just say that our membership was not active. I check on the app and in fact it was expired and it said that my billing was on automatic payments so I thought it was a mistake. But after being on hold for about half an hour I get a hold of someone that says my membership was not going to renew and the decision was final. That I should be looking for another company to get roadside assistance services. I WOULD HAVE. IF I WOULD'VE BEEN AWARE OF THIS.
I used to recommend this company to everyone, despite the fact that the service has been worsening, but it was still a good deal. Anyways, I would not be recommending it any longer. It's really frustrating when you pay for services and all of a sudden you are no longer welcome to use those services. Because of reason that they don't even know. They never shared 1 single reason of why it was canceled. I'm pretty sure that if they keep going this way at some point they are just going out of business. I don't have to do anything, since they are the ones doing it on their own.
I would suggest you find a different company that really appreciates your business, you could probably find something local instead of a company like AAA which would rather spend millions on advertising something that they never provide, so they can scam you for your money, and when you decide to use their services they just no longer like you and decide to kick you out. Be better than that. Do yourself a favor and find another company for roadside assistance.

We have been members of AAA for quite a few years. No more! What kind of company has a "no refund" policy if you request cancelation? STAY AWAY FROM THIS ORGANIZATION. Perhaps it used to be helpful for motorists, but there are many more options today. Last year I called to cancel the automatic renewal of membership after seeing it on my cc statement. The customer service person indicated "you are past the window of canceling the policy", without any options for pro-rating cancelation, etc.. Shady practices. I decided to keep the coverage for a year, but told them to remove the automatic renewal from my account. What did I find on this year's cc statement? Another $177 charge for their membership.
Called customer service again, "you are past the window of cancelation"; I explained I requested removal from auto-renewal last year and the charge was made in the past four weeks. The customer service person was rude and snippy. "There is nothing we can do - contact your credit card company to reverse the charges - our policy states we do not refund auto-renewal charges". In addition to this irritating situation, they are constantly sending ridiculous promotional material in the mail for insurances, etc.. What a WASTE OF MONEY for the past 10+ years, for a service we never used, and for rude unhelpful customer service. SAVE YOUR MONEY TO PAY FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE YOURSELF - local towing companies respond quickly. Police officers will get you back in your vehicle for free if you lock your keys in your car.

My children and I lose battery power on the evening of 10/5/2023 at 6:30pm. I was able to pull into a gas station before my battery died to call for assistance. I was given a time of 7:15pm for service to arrive. I had 4 children with me. 1 who is special needs. I explained all of this to the agent. At 7:22pm I called AAA back for more information on my service person because my phone battery was on a low percentage and I didn't want the service person to cancel the request. I was told they were still "on the way" at 8:30 I call again this time, I was told a new service person was coming and I would get a call from them soon.
At 9:00 no call and service person is also not picking up. AAA never communicated with me at all. Each time I had to reach out. And every time get asked if I'm in a safe location which obviously a woman alone with kids in the street is not safe! And I was even asked if I could leave my vehicle where it was and go home. How? How AAA? Just leave my vehicle unattended overnight in a gas station and how was I supposed to get home walk (I live in GA). The customer service is just unequipped to handle emergency calls, at 10pm still no service person. A stranger had to help me for free! After I had paid for membership with AAA which didn't do anything to help. I will be cancelling for a new roadside assistance place. Do not use AAA. it's a waste of time

AAA is a ripoff. Used them once and the pick up driver kept key to vehicle and when I attempted to retrieve the key the young lady giggled and said no way to get in touch with the pick up driver... Would think they had a previous days dispatch somewhere! Yesterday, called and went thru the steps to initiate a tow truck. 7 times I used their 'quickest' method to initiate with nooo results. My wi-fi was on and after walking home to insure wi-fi, same results. Later that day I was smart enough to keep hitting zero until a live person answered. He dispatched pick up. At 11:38 pm the driver calls, I said, "at this time of night?" His response was, "Unless you want to wait until morning." I did. This morning I call him back, he shows no record of a pick up order as it is a 'new day' and he doesn't come on until 1 pm!!!!
I got in touch with AAA to cancel my membership and 'since it is only two months into renewal, we CANNOT refund but we will flag for noon-renewal'. Really? If you're losing business it would seem like a business would want to HELP their customers instead of what I consider stealing as they will not issue a refund... Absolute joke of an organization. Thank God I didn't pursue insurance with these 'jack-legs'.

1st of all it's all a scam and don't waste your money!!! We have 2 people on one account. I called only once then called and canceled the 2nd call within 2 mins since they said it could take up to 3 hrs. Tried to call 1 more time mths later and told all my calls were used. What??? They wasn't. So the other card member called. After a long wait they finally showed up. Jump started my car. The man came in a car with his wife and kids in the car. He was heading for church. OKAY??? Well today we called for a battery jump on one of the three vehicles. I knew somehow they said I used my 4 calls so the other cardholder called and now they told them their 4 calls were used up???? SCAMMERS.
We called the company, got a runaround and finally got someone that looked on the accounts and they couldn't even find ANY CALLS from us. AAA you STINK and nothing but a SCAM!!! Don't waste your money. Yes we canceled them. If you have had the same problems as I read many have. Cancel them as soon as possible because if you wait till near the end of your policy they will charge you a penalty fee. That happened to a friend of mine after they had so much trouble with them. Leaving them on the side of a busy highway. Till the next day.

After about a month of patiently waiting for his truck to be fixed. And 3 failed batteries, we asked for a refund. Their cheap batteries are the worse. As per their receipt, if you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may speak to a manager and request a refund. Good luck getting a refund. The so-called Child-like interim manager made fun of me, as I walked out. We paid close to 2000.00 at this facility and were treated poorly and very unprofessional. We are stunned. We've made the decision to speak to an attorney. I feel we are not the only ones being scammed by this company.

At the two hour point, I called them back, asked the status, they told me 30 more minutes. At the 3.5 hour level they still had not shown. They apologized and told me there was nothing they could do and had nobody. I had to pay $400 cash to an extortionist to get my car off the road and to my home at 12 midnight. AAA's lack of communications and their poor choice of providers is reason enough to NOT use AAA. When I called them to request a refund they told me it was not a licensed towing company and the best they could do was a $125 credit on future fees. Why would anyone want to use them in the future. They called me back an hour later and said they could not find anyone in my network, that I would have to call a tow company and pay the tow company out of pocket and they would reimburse me. I told them I have no money, this is why I pay to have you on my insurance. It took me 4 hours to get my truck to the place to fix my truck, thanks to my sister that lives 6 hours from me. I have never heard anything back from roadside assistance at all. I would recommend you not use this company, unless you have money.

If I could give zero stars I would. I have, and am still waiting 22 hours and counting for a tow. There have been multiple cancellations that I was not informed of. Was instructed about 17 hours ago by their automated system that service was going to arrive at my vehicle in 25 minutes. No one showed up. Apparently the tow that originally accepted the job cancelled an hour after accepting it. Did AAA let me know this? No. They had me go and meet a service call that was cancelled hours earlier.
To add insult to injury, the "customer service" representative I spoke to at that time apparently never reordered the service call as I had to do this myself the next morning. Imagine being stranded in the middle of winter and waiting 22 hours for roadside assistance. You would be dead, along with your phone. Their claim of 24/7 roadside assistance should be changed to you will wait at least 24 hours for any of the membership services you try to use. I have, as many reviewers on here are or have been a member of this company on and off for over 30 years. This decline in quality of their services is sad at best. Save the membership fee to use towards the tow you will eventually have to pay for yourself.

Literally the worst service anyone could receive. As a consumer you hold certain companies like Triple AAA to higher standards, the fact that I called them at 8:34 am and am still currently waiting at 11:32 am for a tow literally 0.2 miles away. It’s ridiculous. I have two toddlers who haven’t eaten, diapers need to be changed simply because we went to get an oil change and broke down on the way home. It’s crazy, every time you call they say the call was redirected and someone else will take another hour to get here. IF YOU LIVE IN THE APOPKA AREA DO NOT PURCHASE TRIPLE AAA! TRIPLE AAA VEHICLES DO NOT RESPOND TO CALLS OUT HERE AND THEY USE THIRD PARTIES THAT CAN DROP THE CALL AT ANY TIME. Please do not purchase. It’s a waste of time and money.

9.21.23: I enter the online "self-serve" portal of AAA Michigan (michigan.aaa.com). I logged into my account to pay my premium. I enter my Debit card information and click the "pay now" button. After clicking the button, the screen displays "System unavailable, please try your transaction later." I wait several hours and then log back into my account to retry payment process. At that time, my account displayed $0.00 payment due. I never got email notification of my payment processing from AAA, nor did I receive any confirmation number as their system glitched with "System unavailable" message. I then logged into my banking account and saw that there were two (2) pending charges from AAA..
I know that my bank can't do anything until a transaction actually completes processing. So, I called AAA to follow-up on my situation. The representative that I spoke with told me that being that I used the "Online" payment option, they would be able to immediately reverse the transaction. She stated that she'd need to check further and asked me to hold-on. She came back on the phone and stated that it was taking longer than expected and asked if she could return my call. I agreed. All together she called me back three (3) times and last stated that they would be refunding my payment in 7 to 10 days as there was no further charges that they could possible apply the payment to.
9.28.23: I call AAA Michigan back to follow-up on my case as I'd received nothing in the mail nor via email. The representative (Sidne), after I explained my case, told me that from what she sees they (AAA) were applying the extra (unauthorized) charge to my future billing(s). This is grossly unacceptable and not what I was originally told on 9.21.23. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was told that a request would be submitted for me to receive a "Supervisor" Call-back. This is utterly ridiculous and not doing business in Good Faith!!! Your System "Glitches" and You Penalize the Customer!!!

He put the space saver tire on, sent us to a local tire shop who put air in that tire and recommended we go to Sam’s Club before they closed. This is the 2nd time AAA repeated this lack of service. They have contacted to another comp. Who charges you a small fortune. I was quoted from $900. to $1500. Just to tow me 10 miles. It's cheaper for me to get a mechanic to come out and repair my rv rather than to use their service which defeat the purpose of paying them. Now after over 40 years it's time to change sad to say. They have good service for regular vehicles but for rvs it's bad and not worth having.

The radiator went on my car at 20:00. I was able to pull into a parking lot to make the tow easier, and called AAA at 20:30. The automated voice told me they sent my phone text link and that this was "the fastest way", and then reminded me again that the text link was fastest. The last time I spoke to a person, the call was over in 5 minutes and a tow-truck called me 3 minutes later to tell me they were in the area looking for my car. With this text link, I had to fill out a form on my phone, describing where my car was, with the only options being interstate; highway; parking garage; or shopping center. There were no options for just a parking lot, but I picked parking garage. By the time the forms were completed, 20 minutes had passed and I received a text that the ETA of a tow-truck would be 00:30... four hours.
I'm in a decently sized city, which is 15 minutes outside of Madison, WI. I called the shop that I wanted my car taken (20 minutes away of my location, in the opposite direction as Madison) and asked them to come tow it. They said where to place my key and to leave my car there and they'd pick it up in about 15-20 minutes and I'd get a call with an update the next day. At 21:30 I received a call from the tow company with AAA, saying they had JUST been dispatched to my location (an hour after I called AAA), from the far side of Madison, and that their ETA was about 23:45 (2 hours 15 minutes).
I told them I called a different tow company and their ETA was 15 minutes, and to cancel my AAA request. Not to mention that AAA said their tow-trucks only have 2 seats and that I would need to find my own ride home. If I had been in the middle of nowhere, out of state, with no contacts in the area, and my car is my only means of transportation, how does AAA expect someone to just "get a ride"?
My mom had a flat tire last winter, when the temperatures were -24F (without wind chill), and thankfully had a full tank of gas to keep her car warm while she waited. Her empty gas light was on by the time the tow-truck arrived to repair/fill her tire. If her gas tank hadn't been full, she could have died because of AAA's wait times. AAA used to be very quick, relatively pain free, and efficient. Now, it's tedious, long waits, and lets the customer feel like they aren't a priority in the company. I will be canceling my subscription. This is ridiculous.

Fast forward to today, I’ve had yet another horrible experience again, this time with a tire. I called them, trying to rectify the situation, to no avail. Back & forth for 3 hours. A policy holder with AAA hit my car, and since then I have had to jump through 100 hoops trying to get ahold of them. Not once did Robin ** ever call me back, and as kind as I was with my voicemails and calls - she seemed very irritated when she did finally answer after days of calling and leaving messages. She also hung up on me twice, maybe she thought our call was over, but she did not even give me a chance to ask my last questions - as soon as I said thank you for one thing, she hung up on me - twice. I would say she is horrible and should be fired, but from all else that I've read about this company - maybe that is their criteria!
They tried to extremely low ball me for my injury settlement, and did not send me enough money to cover the rental for my vehicle while it was being repaired due to one of their policy holders crashing into my car. She got annoyed when I (very kindly and politely, might I add) request that they give me enough to cover the costs. My car is a Hyundai Elantra 2023 sedan, and the rental they would cover is an old Nissan. Also, I have to pay the deposit for it, even though I am not at fault for this accident - I keep having to come out of pocket for all the running around and this is very stressful and time consuming on my end.
I understand they may be short staffed, as she stated she has 19 other people to call. At least she is calling them! She never called me back once. It's been 11 days since the incident and she nor her supervisor have ever returned a call to me. It's very important to know I am not some rude person who was deserving of being ignored. I am a student who has enough going on and understand people need empathy and kindness, I was so kind and well mannered with my voicemails to them requesting call backs and help.
I have heard stories about insurance companies being "evil" and I never had any reason to believe those stories until now. In my experience with AAA, it's true. They are horrible. Lucky for me, I have Geico! Maybe if you crash into other's cars often, AAA might be a good fit for you as they don't want to help the parties who are not at fault AT ALL. Horrible company. I pray for your souls, as the evilness inside of you AAA employees will not go unpunished in this life.

I can remember 10 years ago, AAA was efficient and reasonable. Now, I’m expected to wait several hours for a tow. I was told I should expect a tow in 150 min. I waited 3 hours, called back and they claimed I did not have a service call. They sent another truck, I’m told 45 minutes. I wait an hour, call for an update- another 45 min out. At this point I’ve been waiting nearly 5 hours, and it’s 1am. They finally sent a truck, who said aaa sends them over an hour away for tows and San Francisco gets priority over all other calls because they can charge more? What gives??? Not worth the money.

I've had AAA for 9 years and never had to use it until Feb of this year, the towing company that subcontracts for AAA showed up to tell me that my 2017 Promaster van was not towable by AAA because it was a work van and too heavy but his company could tow it, to which I thought a different tow truck capable of doing it would show up, nope. Same driver, same truck hooked it up and brought it to my mechanic. So I called AAA to report this to which they said it was a work van and nothing could be done.
Months later I had received a email stating my membership would be coming up soon, so I called them to say I wasn't renewing, they asked why, I told them what had happened, they said the van was totally cover and to request a refund. I filled out all required paperwork only to get a response 3 weeks later to tell me too much time had passed since the towing. Just to be sure I called back as if I were inquiring as a new customer and asked if the vehicle I drove would be covered with all specific details, they said it would. A week and a half ago, I reached out to AAA roadside service for a battery test/recharge/possible purchase on a vehicle that had started. This was something that has happened before, they came and tested the battery, offered to sell me a new one, and install it on site, and it went smoothly. However, this time, it went differently. The technician informed me that he can sell me a battery and install it for $190 after testing it, per usual and this is what I was expecting it to do. He jumped my battery, and read the test. He informed me the battery had a low charge, and that I needed to let it run OR go to a mechanic for it to be charged. He informed me everything else was fine, and left without giving me a chance to buy a battery. I then took it to a mechanic, and they discovered the battery was dead. Changed the battery, and charged me a total of $335.
Considering all I wanted was to pay the $190 for the battery sold by the AAA tech, and his failure to do so, I had hoped I could get reimbursed the difference. Had he sold me the battery as I expected, I wouldn't have been out the extra $145. I sent the reimbursement request with this information, and received a call back from a woman, who's name I'll leave off of here, explaining that they don't do reimbursement for that because I don't have a AAA battery. I explained the situation and she reiterated the same thing, and told me that all he could have done is put in a new battery, but I'd still have to pay for it. I explained to her that this is what I wanted to do, and reiterated that he left without giving me the chance to buy it.
She informed me that his test came back inconclusive, and that he was only able to determine that the battery had a low charge. This means he could not conclude if the battery was dead, he could have only given me a AAA battery "but you would have to pay for it", which she said, about 5 times during our call. And I reiterated, 5 times, that I was aware of that, and that I WANTED to purchase the battery from him. I also explained that he provided none of the details she offered, and that he told me "something is draining the battery, but everything else is fine, you should run it for an hour, or go have it recharged. You're all set". I explained that his lack of communication, and his lack of battery sale cost me $145 extra, when, had he done his job, he would have solid me the battery for $190.
Considering her constantly informing me that I would have had to pay for the battery regardless, and my constant reiteration that this is what I wanted, but he didn't offer it to me, I got the impression that she was not listening, and thought I wanted a full reimbursement. I didn't. I wanted a differential reimbursement for the extra money I had to pay due to the technician not doing his job, not communicating, and not selling me the battery he was supposed to sell me.

I have had AAA for three years. As far as towing goes they do alright, the rest of it is a joke. They replaced my battery in my 2015 Dodge Journey. I got the one with a three year replacement warranty. If you are familiar with the Dodge Journey you know that you have to remove the right front tire to replace the battery, I know, go figure. About 14 months later the battery goes out on me, and also if you are familiar with this wonderful car you know it will not run with a dead battery, even if you jump it.
With that said I decided to remove the battery myself, as the AAA technician last time said he could not do it. I figured that they could just bring me the replacement battery. Once they finally answered the phone I was informed that first off, they do not offer battery service to my location which is a town of 80,000 people no less. I was then informed that removing the battery voids the warranty. Now living in Arizona I have had to replace countless batteries and many of them were replaced via warranty, this is the first time I was ever told they will not honor the warranty because I removed the battery. They told me it would have been better for them to tow it 50 miles to the shop, wait for two days till they can replace it, and then have me drive 50 miles to go and pick it up again. Happy to report that good customer service and common sense is alive and well in the USA. Needless to say I will be cancelling my AAA membership ASAP. What a joke.

I requested service for my Prius whose battery wouldn’t start, even though AAA changed the battery 8 months ago. The technician came, jump started my car and told me to drive it for 30 min. I asked him to check that the battery in the back was well connected because it was relatively new and didn’t expect it to die just because I didn’t use the car for 2 days. He checked it, said everything was fine. He got in his car, I got in my Prius but at that point the car had stopped again because when you start it, if you don’t drive it soon after, it just stops on you. In normal circumstances, it gets back on just fine, but mine had no battery!! I couldn’t drive the car an inch. It wouldn’t go to “drive”! So I quickly got out of the car and tried to stop the technician, but he took off. Not even sure he even saw me.
Then I requested another service. They told me the driver would be there around 11:33. An hour later, nothing, I was waiting on the street, in the drizzle, no update, nothing! I had to call yet again only to find out the second request had been canceled by the technician without letting me know or providing another one only because I told the first technician to stay away from me as I had tested positive for covid 4 days prior. I WAS WEARING A MASK AND WE WERE OUTSIDE. He was wearing nothing. Am I happy with the service? NO.

Today my car was dead and wouldn't start. I originally requested battery service (replacement). After talking the AAA Rep., she indicated that the problem maybe the battery but felt it might not. Not taking any chances, I requested a tow to our mechanic. She set that up and we soon received a from the local contractor who stated that she was sending a tow out, but that the car might take 3 days to get to the repair shop. She stated the the car would be stored in a secure facility. When I asked why 3 days, she stated that towing a vehicle 40 miles is considered a long tow. I objected and said my wife and I can't be without a vehicle that long and she said, "Sorry, but it is what it is."
I called AAA to cancel the tow and see about getting my battery replaced and if that didn't work, I would request the tow and wait the 3 days. The AAA rep. stated that I would be charged storage fees from the towing company..? I said what? How am I being up charged additional costs when I'm requesting the service I have been paying for since 2016? I requested the battery to be replaced. The same tow company does the battery replacements. I received a call from the tow company who stated that she was sending someone out to replace my battery, she also confirmed that my AAA battery is still under warranty.
The repair person showed up and she said, "I'm here to jump your car" and I said no, "You are to replace the battery under warranty." She replied "Sorry, we don't replace batteries on Ford Escapes...what?" I called AAA back after going back and forth and ended up speaking to a supervisor who stated, sorry read your terms and conditions...! Yes, you can be charged for vehicle storage and not all the 3rd party contractors replace batteries on vehicles...!
Needless to say, seems like very dishonest company practice and complete disconnect from AAA and their contracted operators. 4 hours of my day wasted, and the only customer service I received at the end, was " File a complaint if you want"...! Today's last experience, my mother's car died on the side of the road around 7pm in which she called and asked for a tow as expected someone would do. She was told that there would be a tow in about an hour. Which then changed to "some hours" said the tow guy. Then after I personally called AAA because it was now 9pm and I was right next to her when the tow guy called and stated the above sentence the customer service rep said that the guy had written in their documents that they told her there wasn't anyone able to tow her tonight and declined the tow. Our advice was to call back tomorrow or get a independent tow service which may or may not be reimbursed by AAA if approved.
If I was not around to ensure my mother was alright and proceeded to contact and pay the independent tow company, my mother and her car were expected to just sit on the side of the road until morning? This made me seriously question why I even pay to have a membership or give AAA another chance. As this was NOT the first time AAA has left me, my grandfather, and now my mother who are all on my membership stranded. I will NOT be renewing my membership - it's not worth the money, effort in asking for help, or time sitting around waiting for no one to come as promised. At 10 am the next day a tow company called from Ft Collins asking if I still needed a tow. He had not been alerted to my need, but had just seen my request in the computer when following up on a different AAA request. He gave me the name of the other AAA-approved company in the area and they hadn't received the request either. The tow company got my car and it's all done. I can't understand how the two companies in the area were not alerted for 22 hours. I've been a loyal customer for years and am so saddened by the horrible customer support and business process now. So sad!

On Friday 07/21/23 around 2pm I was travelling north down New State Road in Manchester, CT when a driver of a AAA flatbed pulled out of Hilliard Street, I saw him look to the right and looked to the left, saw my vehicle too close for him to pull out and he did so anyway. I hit the brakes and had to make a pretty abrupt stop. I beeped my horn as I started braking and the driver flipped me the middle finger while laughing. This at an intersection where many accidents happen, one a year and a half ago where a 15 year old girl was killed in an auto accident. And the driver takes such irresponsible, arrogent risks and has zero respect for the general public.
After I started up again, I turned around, caught up with the vehicle and got a photo of it and the GMC truck they were towing. The vehicle plate #**. The driver had zero regard for other human life, if that road was wet, if a driver was behind me had hit me, my car would have ended up in the back driver's side wheel of the flatbed. It was that close!!
In following up I was told that any disiplinary action is proprietary and not something that is divulged to the public. I did not ask nor would I want any personal information about the driver, as I'd not want him or anyone knowing mine. The fact is that the public and a person particularly who was nearly involved in an accident with their vehicle should have a right to know what disciplinary action is being taken to ensure this will never happen again. If he's fired or given a written warning, furloughed for a week as a disciplinary action regardless of their policies should be given to the person involved. I find it stunning that this company's policy is to protect this employee by giving the public lip service with regard to an extremely frightening incident. Zero transparency on their disciplinary actions is appalling.

My car was overheating on the way home in July in TN at 6pm. Called AAA, talked to a robot for 20 minutes and the system was still saying the wait to talk to a human was over 15 minutes so I switched to online as directed. At 7:30 and the ETA being pushed back twice I called for a ride, went home, got my truck and trailer and towed it myself. At 7:45 on the ride home I got my final update, which I didn't think much of as I cancelled it after that text. At 8:30 the following morning (14.5 hours later....during a heat advisory and severe storm warning...) a tow truck driver called and said he was 20 minutes away. I literally could have PUSHED the car home faster than they got a truck out.

If I could give them no stars I would. I have had them for over 4 years and the service has been horrible for the last year. Last August, we had a flat tire and, because we were supposedly broken down on a highway that they did not service, I ended up spending $200+ to have my car towed myself ON vacation. Fine - it happens. About 2 months ago, the car broke down AGAIN with my husband and 9-year-old son on the side of the road after 9 pm. I called AAA and spoke to someone who sounded like I woke them up. Set up a tow and was told they did not have an ETA but we would be texted once the driver was en route.
An hour and a half later - NOTHING. I Called back - they had NO record of the prior call. We had to set up ANOTHER tow and I was advised that we could wait another 1-2 hours. An hour later and call #3 - now midnight - was told that the driver was behind in that area and unable to give ETA. Was told nothing to do but wait. After a 4th call - and another hour at 1 am, the husband was advised that he could leave the car with the key under the mat and unlocked. They still had no clue when the driver would be out. They offered a $20 rideshare coupon so he could get home with my son - for a $40 ride.
I called a 5th time - because I KNOW Their Policy about cars needing to be with someone when the tow shows up and was told it was fine - that the driver would be notified and would pick it up. The next morning, when I still had heard NOTHING from AAA or their tow truck driver - I called the shop where it was supposed to have been taken. Guess what? CAN'T FIND IT. I Spent an entire day chasing down my only car only to discover that the driver came out and left it because no one was with it. In total, between the night of the service call and the next day, I had made ELEVEN calls to their support - half of which I was told they had no record of - and by 5 pm had FINALLY located my vehicle.
Fast forward to now - Purchased a new car that comes with roadside assistance for the next 2 years. Call AAA to cancel the account (my mother who pays for the service with her own credit card in HER NAME). Was advised on call #1 - Cancellation team is not available to take the call and offered a call back which she accepted. FIVE days later- no callback and the service renews and the card is charged. Mother calls a second time on 8/4 and was told after an hour that the service could NOT be canceled by her because the account was in MY name AND that no refund could be issued anyway. I call the same day and was again told that no one was available from the "cancellation team" to take the call - offered a call back which I accepted.
It took them FIVE DAYS to call me back. On 8/9 I explain all of this and am told that they need a manager - because they cannot provide a refund but can cancel the service. Was promised a call back by 5-5:30. That time came and went. At 7 pm, I receive the call and am advised that they searched all the calls for the days before we called on 8/4 and located no calls except my call in May (ONE CALL MENTIONED AS LOCATED NOT THE 11 THAT I MADE) and because of that - no refund will be given but the service is canceled. UNACCEPTABLE service - not worth a full $1 let alone $213/year. STAY AWAY - Most insurance plans offer roadside assistance that is competent and complete. Will NEVER use AAA again.

The full-size auxiliary battery in our camper was dead so I called our previously trusted AAA. The guy confirmed it was dead and installed a replacement. Great, I thought until two months later I started noticing issues with electrical elements within our camper. Given it was a brand new battery I didn't think it could be anything to do with that. So I took the van to our trusted mechanic expecting he'd have to do quite a bit of sleuthing to figure out the problem. Nope. He opened up the battery compartment and immediately found the problem: The AAA was the wrong size! It was 30% smaller than what it should have been and as a result, the battery was sliding around in the battery housing. Doing so had damaged the two connector ports. All this on top of it being underpowered! So yes I asked my mechanic to fix the broken pieces and install a correct-size battery.
Once this was done I filed a reimbursement claim with AAA. I had now paid for two batteries and for the repair. Yesterday the most unhelpful dude from AAA called me and flatly said "You gave us no opportunity to replace the wrong battery so you e voided the warranty". No "sorry"; no that's a big drag; no let's buy that wrong battery back from you. Nothing. Wow. Looking elsewhere for roadside assistance going forward and that's after being a GOLD member for 20+ years!

My car broke down around 12PM on 7/17. After calling various friends for help, I decided to attempt to use AAA for services despite having waited more than 4 hours every time I have requested help from AAA in the past. This time, the waiting was no exception and even worse than I had experience previously. I waited for 6 HOURS just to be bounced around to multiple customer service representatives with no help ever arriving.
I will break this down from the very beginning: My first call was placed at 5:10PM - I was quoted a 90 minute arrival for a tow. I had no problem waiting the 90 minutes. After 2 hours of waiting, I called again at 7:15PM. I was told that "something happened with my request" and no tow driver had been assigned to my request. I was assured that this would be remedied immediately, and I should receive a call within 5-10 minutes saying a driver was in route. After waiting for another hour with no such phone call ever coming through, I called AAA again. I was once again told by yet another customer service representative that no driver was enroute to my location and this would be fixed immediately with AAA's "sincerest apologies".
AGAIN, I was told I should receive a phone call from the dispatcher within 5 minutes because the representative "felt terrible" that I was waiting for so long, but no phone call was ever received from the dispatcher. I waited AGAIN, until 10:00PM with the final customer service representative letting me know she would monitor my call and make sure I was picked up immediately. Ultimately, once another hour had passed with no help in sight, at 11:00PM I called an external tow service about 30 minutes away from my location. They offered to come get me immediately after I informed them of my UNACCEPTABLE experience with AAA. It took that tow service exactly 30 minutes to get to my location, which means they did in fact leave, IMMEDIATELY.
Because the garage I was going to have my car towed to was closed by this point in the evening, I had to pay extra for the car to be towed to my home. I ended up having to pay $236.00 out of pocket for a service I pay a premium membership fee for on a yearly basis. Aside from the fact that I am a young female who was left outside at night for 6 HOURS, this is disgusting service for ANYONE to receive. I have photos to back up my claims, and I will be submitting these along with a copy of the receipt from the external tow service I had to pay for out of pocket. Benny's Trucking & Towing out of Holland, MA also has time-stamped photos of my vehicle when they arrived to pick me up, which they took solely because they were disgusted by the lack of service I received from AAA.
While I understand there are staffing issues, and my location may have taken longer to get a tow truck to via AAA, JUST SAY THAT. Do not quote someone 90 minutes when in reality it would have taken more than 6 hours had I not cancelled my request. AAA will NEVER be receiving another dollar from me when they cannot follow through on their promises to their customers. Do better, or create a new business model and procedure.

On 6-21-23 my wife and I experienced car trouble after dining at a local restaurant. There was no cell service but the restaurant owner allowed us to call AAA for a tow from their phone. 8:30PM! We waited over 4 hrs before the Roll back truck arrived. We had received a couple of update calls telling us nonsense about delays and ETAs. We understood there was a disconnect between the "working from home" dispatchers and the towing companies. We were, after all, 30 miles from a town in the middle of a National Forest, did I mention we're handicapped?
Our joy quickly faded as the driver (a heavy set female) chastised us for getting her out of bed. Said she wasn't even going to come! We'd had extreme tire issues. (Vandalism) and had no choice but to be towed. We asked the driver if she could put our spare on the truck with the car. She said no! She then informed us that we couldn't ride with her in the truck! Did I mention we are both handicapped? The restaurant owners were there with us and tried to reason with her. Her response? "I'm not talking to 4 people, I'm leaving! Goodbye!" She climbed up in her truck.
My wife, on her mobility scooter rolled in front of the truck saying - "You can't just leave us here!" Again, her response was to put it in gear, drive around my wife and hit the road. Leaving us there at 2:30AM in the middle of the woods. When I tried to email AAA I learned they have NO contact email address! NONE! We finally called the towing company ourselves and the guy said he’ll be here in 15 minutes and an hour later we called again and said we’re just leaving the key under the mat, which now I’m taking a chance that it could be stolen or towed by another company, because that car had been there now for almost 18 hours.
AAA, then put us on hold when we called them back because the guy hadn’t shown yet and put it on hold for 30 minutes till we were disconnected. We called back and they put us on hold again for 30 minutes until we were disconnected. Worst service I have ever received from any company. And I don’t do negative reviews, but AAA was a huge disappointment. Finally, after about 20 hours Mr. ** showed up and towed our car to its destination. AAA should give me service for free. I am a gold card member and should’ve been treated so much better.

I guess we just don't pay enough in increasing fees for AAA's declining services. First it was trip ticks which was an extremely good service for those of us who prefer reading and not scrolling some inane device that is clogged with ads or trying to navigate using a "crap" Google map with no side road information. Now the extremely helpful tour guide books are gone. At what point do the offices close? Oh, can't do that. AAA needs the increased revenue from less counter services? and travel. AAA once an quality American staple has turned into greedy money gouging service providing less for more.

So I left the car where it was. Called again the next day. Sat with the car for two hours. Nothing. I called AAA back. The rep said it would be soon - probably within an hour - maybe even just 40 minutes. I didn't have that additional amount of time to spare. I asked if I could reserve a tow for the next day, and was told I'd have to call back and make a new reservation. I said that once the car WAS towed, it shouldn't count as me using their service, since I have waited three days for a tow - so far. The rep didn't respond to the request, so I gave up.

Incredible waste of money. It's a good thing we all carry phones now. If you're looking to use AAA in the event of an emergency or to save a little money... Don't. Just... Don't.
Original Review: I bought an "extra" membership for my daughter at college but it's useless. She can't use her own info to create an account or use the app, she has to have my login info... So only one of us can use the app. A Gen Z'er is carrying a physical card with a telephone number to call... Because that will be useful. She can't see her perks or benefits, she can't even explore what her membership does. I canceled the auto-renew, this will be a one year thing. When I called AAA, the operator advised us that the tow company would only take one person in the tow truck and no dogs. I can understand that maybe no dogs are allowed in the tow truck, but she was insistent that only one person was allowed. I told her that I am not leaving my sister on the side of the highway and she wouldn't offer any other assistance. She told us to download a "Lyft" app on my phone. As I mentioned, my phone had died and I couldn't download anything. She didn't even offer any assistance to us! It was a horrible situation!
Thank goodness the tow truck operator had no intention of leaving anyone (even my small dogs) stranded on the side of the highway! Thank goodness for his compassion and intelligence to not leave us stranded. This is not the first time I’ve had bad experience, but this incident happened in same town at about the same time as previous, Huntsville, TX. In Texas, first you get a robot on the phone, then finally a real person. Dispatcher did not call back within 10 minutes as I was told, so I called after waiting 30 minutes. The original tow company, Drake’s, wouldn’t come out even though I was parked in a restaurant parking lot in the middle of town in the daytime! So they tell me they are trying to find an alternate tow company.
I call back again within a half hour and still no one to tow me. So I ask some of the restaurant personnel if they know any local tow companies. First one I call says they can be there in a half hour; the tech calls me within 10 minutes and says he’s on his way. In the meantime I have wasted over 1 1/2 hours with AAA on a service that was probably never gonna happen. The company that towed my car also gave me a ride, very polite and nice driver. When my membership is ready for renewal, I WON'T BE RENEWING! Oh, and by the way, it cost me $250 to have it towed to next town where my mechanic is.

I have purchase memberships for years My wife was stranded and apparently an oversight on my part, I either didn't purchase a membership for her, or something didn't go through... I don't really dispute that I may not have made the purchase only that I intended to.
As a premier member in California for years, my use of this service could have been checked and I've been told I have benefits because of loyalty. Bottom line? They abandoned my wife. Told her that there was nothing that could be worked out when I spoke to them same response. That's criminal. My wife could have been in a bad area etc, something could have been worked out. I even asked them and I told them if they could work something out I would pay for part of the tow or even pay for the tow whatever.. I don't do loyalty programs I don't expect people to treat me special but I do it expect common decency especially from some company I've been a member of for years. I signed up for AAA a year ago. The ratings were better back then. I bought me and my wife a membership because we are getting older. I also bought a membership for my in-laws and my parents. (All over 80.) When it came time to renew, I called customer service to take my father-in-law off of the membership because he no longer drives. I stayed on the phone for just shy of 2 hours waiting before I gave up. That is beyond pathetic. After an hour and a half, because I had nothing else I could do, I looked up the AAA reviews online while I was on hold. I figured they had gone down hill. They have almost all 1 start ratings everywhere now. I was appalled at the things I read. I decided I was going to cancel all 6 memberships when I finally got someone on the phone. But no one would ever answer.
I finally gave up. I disconnected the call myself and called the Tuscaloosa local office number where I had signed up all 6 of us a year ago. I chose “new member” from that menu. I figured they wouldn’t make me wait if they thought I was going to give them money. And they didn’t. Someone answered almost immediately.
After almost 2 hours of waiting to cancel one person’s membership, it took only minutes to get someone on the phone when they thought I was wanting to give them money. I then told the person who answered what had happened and I wanted to cancel all 6 memberships. I was only allowed to cancel mine and my wife’s. Even though all memberships were renewed by my credit card… and I signed everyone up… I had to let my in-laws and parents know that THEY had to call to cancel. Pathetic. So they both called and were charged long distance rates to cancel. My mother never could get anyone on the phone at that location.
Now I figured I was being lied to when I was told that my credit card would not be charged. So I called my credit card company to verify that nothing had been charged this year as of yet. It had not. So I went ahead and cancelled my credit card and got a new one because, well, see above at how shady AAA is now-a-days.
I noticed on several of these 1 star reviews on a few sites, AAA responded, advising the dispute had been resolved. If you see that in this review, it’s a lie. It’s resolved because I cancelled them and will never join again. Life is too short. I will not answer my phone if they do call. If someone from AAA wants to verify this information because you have a horrible employee, The number I called was above and I called at around 9:15 or 9:30 on April 4, 2023. That should be verifiable. From now on, I will keep the number some of my local towing services in my wallet instead of AAA. I’ll have to pay out of pocket, I know. My car wouldn't start, so I called AAA for a tow to the dealer. I waited six hours for a tow truck. I called at 10am and the truck arrived at 4pm. I called back several times during my wait asking for an ETA. Was always told it would just be another hour and that they had no control over the tow company once the call was dispatched. I have been a AAA member for over 30 yrs. Have used them a couple of times in the past and the longest I ever had to wait was an hour and a half. It seems their customer service is getting worse and worse. When you are broke down, they have you at their mercy. They know it and they act like it. I'll be looking for another roadside service provider.

Around 2am New Year's day my truck broke down on my way home. Luckily I was able to contact a friend who came and picked up my wife and I and took us to their home. I tried to contact AAA about 9am but the app on my phone wanted an exact location of my truck. It was in the country on a state highway, and had no address to provide, and since I didn't have an exact location I couldn't proceed with the request. When I finally got through by calling I was told they couldn't send anyone out without an exact location. There was no mailbox where my truck decided to break down. I asked if If they would have the tow company they had for my approximate location so I could explain to them where my truck was at, but that was not an option for them.
Ater finding a ride back out to my truck I was able to find a house about a half mile from where my truck location and used that so they would send someone. I was told it would be an hour approximately, and that I needed to be there when the tow arrived. After 1 1/2 hrs of sitting at my truck waiting for a tow in below freezing cold I called back. Only to be told that they were still looking for someone to take the call. Keep in mind they said someone would be there in roughly an hour, but got no call telling me they didn't have anyone to tow my vehicle.
All together I waited over 24 hrs. for a tow. 4-5 hrs waiting at my truck waiting for someone to show up. In my opinion they weren't even trying to arrange a tow because of the added expense due to it being a holiday. There was no consideration of my well being or the fact that I was inconveniencing my friend. This is not an emergency service by any means. I will not be renewing my membership after it expires!

I have been a AAA member since 2013. I have used them before for towing on two other occasions and I did not have any issues. On Christmas eve, my vehicle blew a radiator hose 10 miles from my house. I called AAA and they advised that due to the amount of calls, they are only limited to a 15 mile tow. I pay for the premier service and that allows for a 100 mile tow. Why would they limit the miles like that? Regardless, AAA said it would be 2 hours before a tow company could tow my vehicle. I agreed and began the wait.
An hour goes by and the tow company called and said it would be 3-4 hours before a driver could tow my vehicle. Then AAA called me back and said the first company just cancelled and they need to send another company to tow my vehicle. The new company advised that they couldn't tow my vehicle for 6 hours. This was ridiculous so I cancelled the tow and had a friend come tow my vehicle with his car trailer. I have paid $150 a year for many years. They refused to come out claiming to have too many calls for service. So I waited until the next day, late afternoon, waited on hold for 30 minutes only to be told they couldn't come out to residences because they had too many requests for service. I explained I didn't mind waiting as many hours as it took, yet was refused. I paid $115 for the year for roadside assistance and for 2 days can not get service. They need to hire more drivers so they can provide the service I paid for and expect. I would have waited 4, 5, 6 hours, still refused. Completely unacceptable and I feel scammed. Why pay all this money if I can't even get a jump for 2 consecutive days. I understand prioritizing calls, but not a total refusal of service.

I called and asked that they tow us to a mechanic shop and they took our info and would call back. 25 mins later no call, so I phoned for follow-up and was informed that they were still looking and would call me in 15 mins. 30 mins went by and I called for another follow-up. Was told we were knocked out of the system and would need to reapply.
Another 30 went by and still no answer so I called my insurance company and they had someone out in 45 mins. I called AAA again and asked what the protocol was and she said they send out information to the towing companies and WAIT for someone to respond, we don't call. Now I know where the problem is. I have been a AAA member for 25 years, and have always had 5 star service by both the phone customer service people, and tow driver, when I was stranded and needed them. I haven't needed them for a few years, but with driving an older car the peace of mind knowing they are only a call away was priceless. Then a few weeks ago my car started making a strange noise under the hood, then lost power for a few seconds, so I immediately pulled onto a side street and called for a tow. I didn't want to completely conk out on the main road in rush hour traffic. The lady said that they were very busy at the moment, and that they would have someone there in about an hour and a half, and that the tow driver would call with an ETA.
An hour and a half later still no tow driver or update, so I call back to check on the status. The man says "we are working on trying to find someone." What?, They hadn't even arranged a tow with anyone yet! He said it shouldn't be too much longer. Another hour later I finally got an update saying the driver was on the way and would be there in 30 minutes. He pulls up right BEHIND me, weird!, they usually position their truck in front of my car, with his stadium bright spotlights on my car, then gets out with a headlamp on also, with not the slightest empathy or compassion for my situation just immediately asks me for my driver's license and AAA card, in the tone and manner of a policeman! Then says with the same tone, but now also condescending "I can't tow this car it has expired tags!" Um, okay, I didn't even know that was a policy!?
Then he went on to say "and once I flag this car in our system no other driver will TOUCH this car!" A complete and utter young cold jerk, who apparently has a dream of being a policeman! Never in all the years and all the times I have needed them have I ever had such an experience with a driver. And what's worse is it wasn't a private tow company they used, he was a direct AAA employee! Needless to say I called and canceled my membership, so that they won't renew it next month with the 'automatic deduction from my bank account' that I never even signed up for!? I always just call and renew over the phone.
The only good out of that was it occurred just before I paid $100,00 for another year. It is not only their policy of not towing cars with expired tags (why should that even matter to them!?) but it was the whole experience, a 3 hour wait, then a completely ridiculous-behaving driver. When I called to cancel my membership after 25 years, the lady on the phone could care less, didn't even ask why or anything, just as cold and callous as the driver, just said "Okay, got you cancelled!". AAA used to be so wonderful and worth every penny of the year membership, whether I used any of my 4 call-outs or not, just knowing I would never be left stranded alongside a road. Apparently that is not the case anymore.

This seemed reasonable, although already twice as much as if I buy the battery at Sam's Club, which I have often done. But it was the price that I paid last year for an AAA battery in a different vehicle. We've had AAA Road Side Assistance for many many years. My daughter needed a tow late at night in a bad area. It took them several hours. They have only one tow truck driver for our entire county which has a large population. I'm very disappointed. AAA asked her to leave her vehicle unattended and the tow truck driver would get there when he could. This was unacceptable as vehicles are stolen frequently in this area. AAA doesn't make us feel secure anymore.

They charge you just under 200 dollars for membership but when you need towing they can’t give you a time. I was told after just buying a vehicle it may be anywhere from 4 hours until the next day. I then decided I would never renew my subscription.

Sept 3 7 AM car battery dead - need to get from Rosemary Beach to Indiana. Called for jump. Called 45 minutes later for follow up - going to be there in 20 minutes. Called back 45 minutes later - backed up, will be a long time. Complained about the lack of follow up. Was guaranteed a callback. Called security - they had jumpers and got me going. Bought a new battery. Writing this review 29 hours after my “guaranteed call back”. Still waiting.
