What is Aegis Living?

Aegis Living provides 24/7 assisted living, memory care and respite care services to residents staying at its communities in Nevada, Washington and California. Aegis uses the Family Link app to update families about their loved one’s progress, daily activities and socialization levels.

The company also has communities centered on Asian culture in Fremont, California, and Newcastle, Washington. These Aegis assisted living communities are dedicated to ensuring older individuals receive the respect and care they deserve along with activities, culinary options and services they enjoy.

What does Aegis do?

Aegis Living is a network of assisted living communities with memory care and respite care options. Options are available for those with active lifestyles or people who need full-time care. The 24/7 expert staff provides customized care for each resident's day-to-day needs, as well as enrichment opportunities like fine dining, fun activities and community-specific amenities. Small group activities may include music, art and exercise. Culinary offerings are nutritionally balanced by professional chefs and include comfort foods, seasonal specials and favorite snacks.

How much does Aegis Living cost?

The cost of living at Aegis varies based on the community’s location, the selected apartment and the level of care required. Each resident’s costs are based on their personal needs and preferences. Pricing is broken down into two main costs: rent and care services.

  • Rent is the cost of renting the apartment. As you would find with any apartment rental, the cost will vary with the location and the size of the apartment. However, unlike a typical apartment rental, rent at Aegis includes all meals, all-day programming, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, utilities, security services and more.
  • When it comes to care, Aegis charges based on care points—charging individually for the care services that the resident will receive and only for what they need. This structure allows families to remove or add services as their loved ones’ needs change and provides flexibility to accommodate future needs. To understand the care needed, a qualified professional conducts an assessment of the resident before they move into the community.

Most families pay using personal funds, money from home equity, long-term care insurance, veterans benefits, life insurance or a combination of these sources to cover costs. Aegis can help you locate information to make the most informed decision and find alternative resources for yourself or your family.

My 94+ year old mother has been at Aegis Shoreline Memory Care since November 2023. I see my mother 5 days per week, most often in the early afternoon but also in the mid morning or late afternoon so I feel I have a pretty good wealth of knowledge regarding the care my mother receives. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I would rate the overall care at 8 to 8.5. However, there are several people who constantly go beyond this level and approach a score of almost 10. Kristy is the activities coordinator and the activities take up a significant part of the day, are very useful for my mother's health and are so variable that almost every resident should feel comfortable attending many of them.

The monthly summary Kristy has instituted has made it easy for me to stay up to date with my mother's activities. In addition, Kristy has a "chocolate candy" dish on her desk that my mother feels comfortable enough to help herself to. I'm not sure of the titles for Sabrina and Jill but they are excellent in providing one on one care (as much as possible) to my mother. Group activities are not something my mother always participates in, so the one on one attention helps my mother keep a positive attitude and a reason to stay alive.

My mother sometimes recognizes them and her reactions really show how much love they have for her and my mother for them. Sabrina also assisted me in dressing up my mother in a long formal dress, nylons, lip gloss and coat when I decided to just do something fun for my mother. Jill seems to always be around when I am finished seeing my mother for the day. She is extremely helpful in getting my mother's attention on to the activity or to find a chair for her to sit in for the duration of the activity. Khloe is another of the care givers that seek out my mother to provide individual attention. Whitney is the head Nurse at the facility and she is absolutely on top of everything. Regarding medical care, she is definitely the go to person, almost always has an answer and if not responds back to me when she does have the answer. I have complete confidence in Whitney's ability to handle all the medical situations that come up in a memory care facility.

Taking care of people in a memory care environment is a challenging job. The 5 people I've mentioned have never been too busy with other activities to deal with my mother's needs in the appropriate amount of time. No excuses like, "I was busy with someone else, I was on the phone, that's not my job" etc. Just let me take care of that for you.

In this facility it is a tossup between the residents and the staff as to who is treated with less respect. I call this place OZ. Just don’t look behind the curtain. Appearances are deceiving. Covid has certainly made things worse and but they weren’t that good to begin with. If you were the least bit healthy when coming to live here you wouldn’t be after eating this food. The Fancy menu (Often misspelled) Has little relationship to what is actually being served. There are a handful of caring people here but that’s about it.
