Not only three stropping ambulance attendants arrived, but also 2 police men! The Life Alert person also gave all my pertinent information to the responders. She even offered to call my contact person to let them know what had happened to me. I asked her not to do this as I know I had no injuries. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY... I ordered this service for my elderly parents that lived in another state for peace of mind. My salesperson name is Jesse. I ordered my service but was very clear to him that I could cancel my service at anytime. His response to me was YES. I ordered the service but never have signed or e-signed any paperwork. I don't even have an account number that I have ask for many times. I just have to give my parents name. My mother had included in her service the fire detection, when she cooks it would go off. She gets called from Life Alert. This has happened so often that my mother has not put back the fire detection on the wall. She continuously get harassed and hounded by Life Alert to put that back up and she refuses. So much so that my mother has ask me to cancel this service for her.
I called to cancel the service and was told that I have a 3 year contract or until my mother goes into a living facility or they decide she no longer needs it. MY MOTHER IS NOT A CHILD. She is mentally of sound mind. They pull the 'not far to your parents to remove it from her household'. I understand from a sales perspective how that works; However, my mother wants the service removed from her home. They only will bill credit card or bank account, they are a paperless company but that's how they get you. When you cancel, they are the nastiest people in the world. I would rather be known for having the best service than having to make people keep your service.
Please make sure you check the Better Business Bureau and look at the complaints rather than the A+ rating. A+ doesn't always mean just that. They have other same services that are equal to or better than this service, you may just have to do a little more research. They may indeed have a good service. THEY ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE SAME PEOPLE THEY SAY THEY HELP. They are preying on the elderly and their loved ones.
Unfortunately, there are many discrepancies in this complaint.
First, we do not have this person in our system, which means his name is not on an account, nor is he the responsible party or POA on file for an account; therefore, due to HIPPA laws, he would not be receiving any paperwork and would have no jurisdiction to cancel any of our customer's accounts.
Second, to avoid any misunderstandings with our service agreement, our customers are called three times from corporate to review the agreement before our equipment is sent out. Then the customer is given time to review the agreement on their own with the cost and terms at the beginning in large bold letters. We do not bill our customers until we received the agreement back and it is willfully signed by our customers.
Next, the monitored fire alarm is a simple solution as we recommend the responsible party for this account call our service department and have the fire alarm relocated to another area of the house. Although the complainant calls it “harassing”- we actually care about our customers and that is why we are calling in hopes of assisting with the fire alarm. Other companies wouldn’t bother and just collect the money, but Life Alert’s goal is and always has been to save lives.
Lastly, we welcome the public to go to the BBB and read all of our reviews good and bad. What you will find is an outstanding job by Life Alert to assist and resolve legitimate complaints. You will also find on this site and other customer review sites that Life Alert is the industry leader in personal protection, and is the #1 medical alert company in customer satisfaction and in saving lives. My son ordered this system, therefore I had no say in which system I got. This system not only is more expensive than I would pay. I would NEVER be tricked into signing a 3 year contract. I live on a very low set income. The monthly cost is $69.99. I just spoke with customer service and was told there was nothing I could do about the contract and he could drop the cost to $59.99. Now I am stuck with a system that costs more than it is worth to me.
The complainant’s son choose the best system on the market for his mother because he wanted her to be safe and protected. Life Alert has many protection packages that vary in prices and her son choose an upgraded protection package with accessories, in which he is paying for.
Nevertheless, to keep this complainant happy, we worked with lowering the cost per her request. So we are confused as to why she still is not happy over having the best lifesaving service in the industry at a reduced cost in which her son is paying for so she can be safe and the family has peace of mind.
Although this is not a legitimate complaint – but an uninformed opinion that shouldn’t even be posted – we gladly welcome the opportunity to explain why we are the industry leader in personal protection and why her son made a well informed decision.
When depending on a system that may someday save your life, one does not want to gamble with lessor services. We have heard horror stories of families going the cheap route only to regret it later and ultimately switch to our services.
Part of what makes Life Alert the industry leader is that we own and operate our own Monitoring Centers so your emergency calls are not farmed out to a 3rd party, which increases the chances of your emergency call being dropped or missed. We also maintain an extensive medical file on our customers in the event that emergency personnel need to know the medical history and medication they are on.
In addition, our emergency dispatchers spend up to a year in extensive training and are also trained in identifying the emotional needs of our customers, and we manage a crisis from the beginning to the end while remaining on the line – which is something not all companies do.
As for our service agreement, no one was “tricked” into signing it. Life Alert’s service agreement is your price guarantee that there are no hidden fees, and your monthly cost will not increase. From the very first phone call that is made to a potential customer, our representatives clearly explain the terms of our service agreement thoroughly. However, just in case there are any misunderstandings with the customer and our service agreement, the customer is notified two more times by individuals in different departments and the service agreement is reviewed again before the equipment is shipped to the customer. Lastly, the terms, cost and length of the service agreement is in large bold letters at the top of the agreement so that our customers can clearly see the information BEFORE agreeing to it.
Whereas, companies that promote No Contract also have NO fiduciary responsibility to get you help, and they can raise their monthly costs at any time or sell your account to an unknown company.
Life Alert is the industry leader in personal protection for a reason. We are the only medical alert service that can prove we save a life from a catastrophe every 10 minutes and we have over 30,000 thousand testimonials from grateful customers and their families. We’ve been saving lives for over 27 years, and we are the only company that former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop endorsed until his death in 2013.
