My father signed up for the life alert system earlier in the year. The sales people were very pushy and used high pressure sales tactics. They told us that the system had a three year money back guarantee if the person using the system died or went into a nursing home within 3 years. 3 months later my father could no longer live by himself and had to go to a nursing home. They asked for proof which we provided and then they said the guarantee only applied if the customer died. This is a company that only cares about getting your money and wont honor anything it promises. There are other companies out there that will do more for you and cost much less without a 3 year commitment or dishonest salespeople!
Dear Neil,
We understand the challenges that families face when having to uproot their elderly loved and move them into a nursing home. It can be a confusing time.
Life Alert is the only medical alert company that has a money back guarantee that if a person dies at home alone – Life Alert will refund all the monies back. This is noted in the Monitoring Fee Refund paragraph of our Service Agreement. We do not refund money if the person goes into a nursing home, however, we will cancel the agreement with no penalty fees when the paperwork is provided.
Please know that it would not have been financially or professionally adventitious for the representative to have misled the customer. There simply would not have been any benefit to the rep, but instead serious financial retributions.
Unlike other companies, Life Alert puts its promises in writing so our customers know that their price is guaranteed, there are no hidden fees, and they are protected by the industry leader in personal protection.
We are sorry for the confusion you may have felt and hope this response has been helpful.
Very Sincerely,Life Alert

We and family thank you folks for advising us of this problem. It could have been a major tragedy. Thanks again. I don’t think that this system can be beat.

My 87 year-old mother ordered Life Alert in a moment of panic. When the product arrived by mail, it had stickers all over the box saying that if you open the box you agree to all commitments made to Life Alert. When she found out that it was a three year commitment, she didn't want it. I called Life Alert and an obnoxious salesman told me that my Mom had to take it and that I couldn't cancel. He was completed rude and told me that "I was nothing to him." He forced me to have my mother talk to him and she tried to cancel. Then he started grilling her for information. She gave me back to phone when he hung up. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR SERVICE!!!
Dear Pat,
Our nation’s senior citizens are a protected group and Life Alert goes out of our way to ensure that they remain protected. That is why we offer a Price Guarantee Service Agreement which is our commitment to the customer that there are no hidden fees or price hikes as with other companies and, more importantly, we are contractually obligated to get our customers help.
When your mother called us to inquire about our protection services, we did explain the service agreement. Moreover, before our equipment is sent out we called again to go over the agreement with her. Please note that all of our calls are recorded and your mother verbally understood the terms.
In addition, we note it on the box so our customers are aware of the paper work inside. The actual service agreement has the terms in large, bold, writing at the top, and not in fine print where it can be missed. We have a failsafe system to ensure that our customers are aware that they are signing up the with industry leader in personal protection, Life Alert, and what the terms entail.
Lastly, Life Alert is a HIPPA compliant company which means we do not give out any information to anyone unless we have the authorization of our customers. That is the reason why we had to have your mother give us authorization to speak with you. We found that our representative was friendly, informative, and remained calm while talking to you.
We are sorry you feel you had a bad experience with Life Alert and we wish you and your mother the best of health.
Sincerely,Life Alert
