Life Alert was founded in 1987, making it one of the first personal emergency response companies in the United States. The company’s systems have a base hub and a help button that can be worn around the neck on a pendant or wristband.     I had tried to go to the bathroom several times. I have had both knees replaced in the last eight months and they do not work so well due to the complexity of surgery.     I foolishly tried to get into my friend’s van on the driveway that was partially ice covered. As I grabbed the handle to lift myself in, my foot hit slippery ice and I could not lift myself with one arm. As we were outside, I didn’t know if Life Alert would hear my call but I pushed the button. My friend called 911 and we had help in a few minutes. Since I didn’t need more help than a lift to stand up, EMTs gave me time to put on dry clothes (sitting on ice is most uncomfortable). They finished their work and left.

    My mom had to go to the emergency room about three weeks ago. She was short of breath and was really sick with it, and weak. Life Alert person that helped was very helpful, in that I was trying to get mom to talk to me and she advised me not to do much of that since she was out of breath. After arriving at the hospital, they began tests on her heart and found that she had a heart attack. Upon running tests, she had to have three stents put in.     I am answering on behalf of my mother. She fell in her bathroom on this particular emergency. She pushed her Life Alert necklace button right away. They were unable to hear her from her box (located in the living room) and dispatched EMS, then called me and my sister right away. Her injuries were extensive, fractured hip, pelvis and back. Due to Life Alert, we were able to respond immediately and minimize her pain and fear. She is doing very well in rehab and we expect her home within the next four weeks. I can’t encourage people enough to get this Life Alert service for their loved ones. Life Alert has been a life saver on several occasions. Best investment ever.

    It's hard and stressful enough when your elderly frail parent has multiple falls and vertebrae fractures. Then, to deal with a rude and unprofessional company like Life Alert just compounds the problem. My sister researched this company a year ago. The salesman was very smooth, polite, patient, answered all her questions. After we signed up, they kept calling us over and over again, asking for the same information. What really raised a red flag for me, was I very carefully gave them her credit card info over the phone, and they repeated it back to me. Several days later, they called again asking to verify the credit card info!!! They started installing equipment in her home before we even had a chance to review the contract. They didn't inform her in advance of the delivery date for the equipment. My mother disagreed with some terms in the contract.

    I called to cancel the service. The man started to tell me my mother had to push the call button. I had to tell him that it wasn't fully installed, as there was still a package waiting to be picked up from the post office from Life Alert. She only had some of the required equipment. The man on the phone was extremely rude to me and started shouting at me and wouldn't even let me finish telling him the situation. This company is very pushy and aggressive and does not at all operate in a professional manner. Look elsewhere. I would never trust my mother's life to a company like this. Very bad. Avoid this company!

It is this kind of careful consideration, along with our cutting-edge lifesaving technology, and customer service that makes Life Alert the industry leader and the most trusted brand in personal protection.

    The issues the complainant raises in her complaint are not true.

    All of our calls are recorded for quality assurance and we have recordings verifying the complainant was notified three (3) times regarding the cost and terms of our agreement. We advised her of the price and terms of the agreement on the day when she first spoke with a representative, and then again when the order was placed, and lastly we confirmed everything again with her on the day of shipping. Per the complainant’s own admission -- she was upset that we kept calling her to go over the same information. There also appears to have been a credit card problem which generated another call to the customer.

    Moreover, we notify customers regarding our 2-day UPS shipping unless they need to get the equipment faster. To date, the account has been cancelled.

    I got out of the car and I had my cane. I shut the door and for some reason, I fell. I sat on the asphalt for 10-15 minutes and no one stopped to help, so I pushed the Life Alert little red button. EMTs were just there and helped me up and into the house where they got my walker.     I was in my pajamas and robe in the family room watching TV. I was on my way to the bathroom when I tripped by my cane. I am 86 and in poor health, so when I went down I couldn't get up. I used my Life Alert pendant to call you. Life Alert was going to call my grandson, but I told them not to, as I had my cellphone in my pocket and they weren't answering. The paramedics were here in 15 minutes to help me up and take my vitals. Life Alert talked to me all the time and then the paramedics came.     For the 1st emergency, the Dispatcher obtained the information of a possible stroke, or Bell’s palsy episode, and was dispatching help within 2 minutes of receiving the signal. The Paramedics were on scene 12 minutes after receiving the signal. There was no mention of a fall during this call as she stated in the complaint.

    The second emergency - the dispatcher was told that, “I think I’m having a heart attack!” Complainant stated that she was having chest pains and is clammy, she did not say she was choking on ribs. The information was relayed to her mother as it was provided to the Dispatcher by the complainant.

    In Dec of 2016, the complainant called us regarding assisting her financially with her monthly cost, which we were able to do. Now she wants to cancel. She hasn’t paid her bill in 3 months, is avoiding our calls and letters, and is now posting false complaints about us.

    I called for two days to cancel a account I had paid for over 15 years that I had never had to use once thankfully. We had it for a business in case of emergency, could help us get help if needed at push of a button. Every time we tested machine we had polite operators. Upon canceling the account we had the exact opposite experience. We were transferred the first day 4 times, spent 40 minutes trying to stop acct., never got it accomplished. They kept asking me why I wanted to cancel then would say "let me get you to the right person." Felt like a scam after 3rd time.

    On 2nd day LeAnna my rude agent did help disable box rudely and belligerent the entire call. I was shocked after being a good perfect customer and will possibly need the service again this is how they act upon cancellation. I was so upset I asked for her supervisor, waited on hold 25 minutes, no one ever came. I hung up and wrote this. Beware when you need to cancel they don't make it easy. Hope they stopped my auto pay! Sure will make me think before using them ever again!

Each person that the complainant spoke with maintained their professionalism while providing information and instructions to her on how to cancel.

    The complainant was irritated by being asked the reason for cancellation as we needed that information in order to transfer her to the appropriate department who would assist her in a timely manner.

    The representative who assisted the complainant in cancelling the service was professional and informative but unfortunately the complainant was extremely agitated and rude towards her. At one point the complainant started screaming at her and our rep reminded the complainant that our calls were being recorded.

    Although we do our best to accommodate our customers - we do not condone our personnel being treated poorly. We find no fault in our representative defending herself.

    I fell out of bed. I have neuropath and the muscles in my legs won't push up. I pushed my Life Alert button on and the person answering called the paramedics.     I am 98 years old but generally healthy. Evidently, I fell down in my apartment because I was extremely amoebic (when I arrived at the hospital, my red blood cells registered at '7,' which was told was dangerously low). Lying on the floor, I pressed my Life Alert button. I wiggled and crawled until I pulled myself up onto a chair. The doorbell rang; the ambulance had arrived. At this point, the building superintendent, who is due to be called by Life Alert, had not arrived, so I carefully stood up and went to the front door myself.     I needed the fire department to check my light fixture as I had trouble trying to change a bulb late at night and was afraid there could be a short and start a fire. Life Alert got the fire department out (no sirens needed) and asked if they needed to contact my emergency contacts (they did not). Life Alert stayed on the line all through the fire department’s help and all ended well. No short and I did not get hurt, trying to change the bulb myself.
