Life Alert was founded in 1987, making it one of the first personal emergency response companies in the United States. The company’s systems have a base hub and a help button that can be worn around the neck on a pendant or wristband. Life Alert advertises that its pendants have a 10-year battery life and don't require charging.     My father signed up for the life alert system earlier in the year. The sales people were very pushy and used high pressure sales tactics. They told us that the system had a three year money back guarantee if the person using the system died or went into a nursing home within 3 years. 3 months later my father could no longer live by himself and had to go to a nursing home. They asked for proof which we provided and then they said the guarantee only applied if the customer died. This is a company that only cares about getting your money and wont honor anything it promises. There are other companies out there that will do more for you and cost much less without a 3 year commitment or dishonest salespeople!

    My 87 year-old mother ordered Life Alert in a moment of panic. When the product arrived by mail, it had stickers all over the box saying that if you open the box you agree to all commitments made to Life Alert. When she found out that it was a three year commitment, she didn't want it. I called Life Alert and an obnoxious salesman told me that my Mom had to take it and that I couldn't cancel. He was completed rude and told me that "I was nothing to him." He forced me to have my mother talk to him and she tried to cancel. Then he started grilling her for information.     I first contacted Life Alert in August 23, 2018 about getting my father’s Life Alert equipment picked up from my house - my father passed away in March and I’ve finally gotten around to taking care of his Life Alert - and I was told on 8/23 that a UPS pickup was scheduled for 8/28 and to have the equipment boxed up and ready to go. 8/28 came and went with no UPS pick up, so I called Life Alert that evening and was told UPS has 3 days to pick up, so I should wait and call on 8/30 if it still wasn’t picked up. So 8/30 came and went with no pickup from UPS (this was after seeing the UPS delivery man for 2 days in a row who told me he couldn’t take the package without a label and he hadn’t been given one) so again, I called Life Alert only to be told again that their Shipping Department would personally call UPS that day and arrange pickup for Friday 8/31.

    Friday 8/31 came and went and again, no pickup from UPS, now I’ve called today (Saturday 9/1) only to be told the Shipping Department is closed until Tuesday 9/4 due to the holiday, so for a week this Life Alert box with equipment will be sitting at my house waiting for pickup. Now, with every call I have made to Life Alert (3 over the past 5 days) I have stressed that I DO NOT want to be charged for another month when I’ve had this equipment packed and ready for shipment since 8/23.

    So help me, if I get a monthly charge for September come Monday or Tuesday when I have been trying to get this equipment picked up for the last week, I am going to be livid. As we all know, Life Alert does not give refunds - no matter the reason, including their own mistakes - so I’m going to wait this out to see what happens. My one star rating is for the return of the equipment, it’s been very frustrating to say the least to try and get this equipment back to them, very, very poor service.

    In addition, we also sent you a pre-paid label for your convenience so you can drop off the package with UPS without waiting for them.

    Unfortunately, UPS has not received the package from you yet. We have followed up with a phone call to you, and you said you were going to mail it the next day. That was 2 weeks ago. Please know that it is not Life Alert that is delaying the closing of this account.

    Also, Life Alert’s policy is to refund any automatic billing that occurs during the closing process in case they occur. You have not been billed for September.

He laid on the floor for 3 hours until our neighbor heard his car alarm. Life Alert has been unhelpful in response, unwilling to simply refund our install and service, and unapologetic. Very sad. As we have heard, it is nearly impossible to receive a refund. Despite my father's near death due to their system, we are left with our credit company or the courts to receive a refund or compensation.
