    Spark reached out to me following my review. My termination fee was waived and I was given a gift card for my trouble. In summary, my concerns were resolved in a satisfactory manner.

    In a word, my experience with Spark Energy was treacherous. It all started when very aggressive Spark Energy canvassers essentially harassed my girlfriend and I into talking with them, and showing them our bill. The Spark Energy canvassers claimed we would be charged a flat rate for the gas they provided, instead of the varying rate charged by our old supplier, People’s Gas. They kept emphasizing their ability to supply “clean energy” and lower total per therm charges. Lastly, they promised we could cancel with no charges.

    As we were very suspicious, we asked several questions. The employees did clarify for us that our old provider would still charge for delivery of the gas to our apartment. However, the “no cancellation fee” line tuned out to be a lie. Upon reading closer, we realized after the first couple billing cycles that our contract carried a $100 early termination fee. The problem is it took over two months to receive a bill, therefore the first billing cycle had passed.

    Their claim that their product would save us substantial money was misleading. Our bills were just about the same as they always were, if not more expensive. Fortunately, our usage was always pretty low so any per therm charges didn’t make a huge difference. Due to the early termination fee, we just stuck with Spark as our bills were reasonable. Our real problem with Spark came with our move. We paid all of our utilities and closed all accounts.

    Then several months later we get a notice from Spark claiming we still owe them $$$ and threatening to hand our bill over to collection. So basically they claim we still owed them a product fee from our last month and their website link for payment was broken. The double billing, broke link, and shady business practices lead me to write this review. Spark Energy’s sales tactics are aggressive and not honest, their double billing is very inconvenient. You will still have to pay your previous energy supplier for energy delivery + Spark for product. Don’t go with Spark!

    Well I should've researched carefully on my part but I was told that if I signed up for the fixed rate (which was apparently 0.399 per ccf), I will be saving some money. I believed and signed up but 0.399 per ccf was only for 1 month and then they started charging 1.39 per ccf rate for the gas bill. I didn't realize it until I get a huge bill for the month of December 2016. Then I checked the past 12 months bill and before Spark Energy, I was being charged below 0.5 per ccf. It's ridiculous how they are taking advantage of naive people. 1.39 per ccf, seriously? Unless you're familiar with how much you are paying in detail, don't sign up for this DECEIVING company.

    An Spark Energy agent stopped by my house when I wasn't home. My father speak very little English. This man manipulated my father saying “Your bill will be cheaper than PG&E.” and made my father sign some papers. When I came home I was told about this. My father was never given any copies of anything and all of the sudden we get a bill of $346.27! This is a scam! This is manipulating people. Why would you take advantage of someone like this? $346.27 for a month? This is a scam!!!

    Spark canvassers came to our neighborhood in April of 2016, soliciting for new customers at a "locked in rate per therm". Canvassers failed to disclose how changing transmission costs could affect our bill. Thinking we were getting a good deal, I signed a year long contract (which if canceled, applied a $100.00 fee). Throughout the summer months I saw small savings, however now that we are in winter mode I became aware of PG & E changing their transmission fee on a month to month basis. When speaking with Genero from PG & E on Jan, 6, 2017, I was informed that the transmission fee fluctuates based on usage and commodity value. In speaking with this customer service person I was complaining about the increase in transmission cost from Nov. 2016 @ $33.50 to $110.44 in Dec. 2016.

    Ok, at first I really didn't notice the price in my bill because I have another provider help pay my bill, but when the money ran out, then I notice. Ok summer months I understand higher bills, but Dec when I didn't run my AC at all and still got a $200 plus dollar bill. Something not right. That’s the same prices I had in the summer when I ran the AC. I'm calling today. I know no one going to tell me anything but I'm wrong and they right but I also need them to mail me my damn bill. I had to go online to see the bill. Seem like when I'm getting overcharged, I don't get a bill through the mail. Oh and don't be late. They going to blow your phone up all day like you don't know you late. You going to be late paying high ass bills. A rip off like the cable company. I'm going to look into other companies. I'm looking to switch real soon. Don't recommend to no one at the moment.

    Upfront info: Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is the provider in Sacramento, CA. Putting aside the fast-talking sales reps that comb through the neighborhood making their deal of cheaper (in this case) natural gas, overall the program is not worth it - here is why: The price per therm of gas with PG&E varies by season (winter vs. summer) and what it costs them to buy the gas, etc. as well as the Tier usage (if you go over the first tier baseline you pay more per therm in the second Tier). SPARK Energy offers to charge you a flat rate for the gas they provide to PG&E, in my case, $0.749. Sound good? Yes.

    What SPARK Energy does not thoroughly explain is that PG&E still charges for delivery of the gas to you home, because there is only one gas line. SPARK did not build the gas line, nor do they maintain the gas line and PG&E has the right, and deserves this right, to charge for delivery of that gas. THIS MEANS YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE PRODUCT AND THE DELIVERY. You pay for the product and delivery with PG&E before signing up with SPARK. The PG&E tier pricing varies, SPARK remains the same. Still sounds good? Yes.

    PG&E provides a credit for the gas they would have charged you for that is now coming from SPARK Energy. That credit is what you would have been charged for the product (the gas) PG&E would have charged you. It's less than what SPARK Energy charges. PG&E charges delivery/therm less the cost of the product plus some local or state tax(es)/fees. SPARK Energy charges a customer charge per day of $0.16270 and "usage", which is the gas in therms, at $0.749 plus a city tax (that's twice for the city tax). IT IS ALMOST LIKE PAYING FOR THE SAME PRODUCT TWICE.

    Like this: PG&E charged $133.19 for therms (Tier 1 & 2 added together). PG&E charged $15.91 for the taxes, surcharges. PG&E credited $39.07 for the product they would have provided, the gas, which they did not give you because you get SPARK Energy gas. Total you would have paid for your November gas bill: $149.10. Your new gas bill looks like this: $149.10 less the credit = $111.03 STILL due to PG&E for taxes and delivery. SPARK Energy charges you a delivery fee too! That's the X amount of days multiplied by $0.16270. That is the fee SPARK Energy does not tell you about when they are drawing circles and arrows around your PG&E bill when they come to the door. Ok, it's only $4.88 but still. The monthly fee is stated on contract as $4.95.

    SPARK Energy adds the city tax on for the product, varies by usage (in my case 7.5%). SPARK Energy then charges for the product at $0.749 per therm (in my case it was 83 therms), that's $62.17. That $62.17 for the product - PG&E charged only $38.07 and already charges for delivery. Now you owe SPARK Energy $72.08 on top of the PG&E $111.03 for a grand total of $183.11. That is a bill that went from what would have been $149.10 to $183.11. That is $34.01 to SPARK Energy - I can use $34.01 in my own pocket. LASTLY - If you don't catch this soon enough, after the first billing cycle, the contract you have with SPARK Energy allows for a $100 fee to terminate early. That fee is worth it to me to stop paying them anywhere from $20 extra (for October) to $34 (November). How about that?

    In 4 or 5 months that $100 will be exceeded by the extra money you pay to SPARK Energy for, well, pretty much nothing, and most definitely for something you don't need because of all the hidden, that's right, HIDDEN costs that SPARK Energy FAILS to inform you about. Now on to the Better Business Bureau to keep that TEXAS based company from taking advantage of any more people in California and my complaint to the Public Utilities Commission in hopes to get some or all of my $100 early termination fee back from SPARK Energy. It was not a good faith contract.

    A young lady came to my door and assured me that I could save money by signing up with Spark Energy. She also claimed that my current utility company, PG&E was going to raise their rates. I was convinced and agreed. However when I read the contract I found that the cost was not regulated. I also discovered that many complaints had been lodged against Spark. So I refused to sign the contract but kept it.

    I then emailed Spark and told them that I had not signed the contract and they should not bill me as I did not wish to buy their product. I then call PG&E and advised them that I did not wish to buy Spark product and had not signed any contract. I was assured that nothing would change. My cancel confirmation # is **, Gas service agreement is #**. However I just received my PG&E bill and Spark had charged me an additional 151.97 over the normal PG&E charges for the month. How do I stop this company from exploiting me?

    We signed up with a door-to-door Spark representative, who completely misled (ahem, LIED) to us. She was very nice, seemed educated, and we made the mistake of signing on without doing any research on the company. We entered into a gas agreement. Spark came to our door in summer for good reason. So we wouldn't realize our mistake in time to cancel without having to pay an early termination fee. Only once winter arrived, did we really notice the increase in our bill. We are basically paying double in gas charges. Paying PG&E, then paying Spark energy again. We want to cancel now, but have to suck it up and wait until payday to have the 100 dollar fee, so we are using as LITTLE gas as possible between now and then. We have questioned closing our PG&E account and re-opening a new one in order to stop their incredulous overcharging in the meantime!

    Someone knocked on my door, demanded to show him bills after he said to try Spark Energy and he said "You can cancel anytime just try for couple month." After couple month when I started receiving higher bills than before so I called to cancel. Guess What!? Pay cancellation fee $60! You kidding!!? Yeah I was mislead with false information so I was stuck... was hoping contract will expire and they will go away... hm no!

    I got a bill couple days ago $150 from this $87 from Spark Energy. Called them they said "Your contract expired and you are being charged $1.90." WHAT?? WHO IN THE WORLD PAYS THIS MUCH PER TERM??? They said they will send me as an apology $100 coupon to the restaurants, I said okay. They offered renewal contract - when I refused they said "$100 coupon will not be send because you are cancelling". LOL. So they are taking back their apology?? Very funny! I was mislead with false info and robbed literally!!! Also they took apology back! So I'm here dissatisfied and very upset. I wouldn't even give them a one star, cause this review defines less than half! Thank you for your time and WATCH OUT!

    Well I got a knock on the door, this guy shown his badge. He asked to see my gas bill. He said he could beat this price. So I went ahead and signed up. I was paying $.39 per therms. After getting my 2nd bill because the first bill is still with PG&E it was $.67 per therm. I called and they told me that since I signed a contract I was stuck at this price. I asked them how to get out of my contract. They said it would be $100.00. I told them I was mislead in believing that I was suppose to pay less. They didn't care. So I filed a complaint with the utility commission for California.

    Be careful. This is how it works and how I stuck in this: When you're switching utility companies for gas it can take up to 2 billing cycles to see your bill. With that said, I have a 30 day to get out of my contract. It took 2 months for me to see my first bill. So I was in past the 30 days. So I was stuck in contract (the laws need to change on this). Instead of seeing 1 bill, take your bills for the last 12 months and compare them. See if you are on a fixed rate or not. I missed this. I was on a fixed rate at $.39. If its too good to be true it probably is. Do homework before saying yes. I did homework on the company, but I didn't come to this site to see about the lies the door to door salesmen do.

    My mom's house is under my name, therefore all her utility bills are also in my name. She doesn't speak any English and someone from Spark Energy decided to knock on her door and convince my non-English speaking mother to sign up for Spark Energy UNDER MY NAME. No identification required, no one asked her her name. No one even made sure she is me, the person whose name is being contracted without me knowing. So she moves out July 2016. I make sure everything is paid. CoMed, Nicor, Comcast, etc. It's now December and I receive a collection notice saying I owe spark energy 338$. My first question is who the heck is Spark Energy? Of course I call to come to find out someone knocked on my mom's door and made a contract with her without my consent. HOW DOES THIS COMPANY ALLOW THAT?

    If you are going to sign ANY contract under my name, it better be me agreeing. If I'm the one being sent to collections then why didn't anyone tell me I'm being signed up for this? My mom doesn't even know what happened. She said someone came knocking on the door and told her they can make her bill cheaper and asked for a bill. REALLY? This is ridiculous and I will sue Spark Energy for using my name and my social without my consent. I will sue them for basically forcing their way into making a contract with my mom who has no idea what they are doing.

    My main concern here is, how do you make contracts without one's consent? Oh so if my mom consented to you because she had no freaking idea who you are and thought she can be saving a few bucks now this all falls on the person who gave NO AUTHORIZATION to use my name. This is my name, my credit, my social, and it's all getting ruined because Spark Energy wants to be thirsty for some money. Well I will tell you this I will not pay Spark Energy a dollar and I will sue them for using my name to create a contract without me being there and without me consenting to anything. I never authorized anyone or any company to use my name and that's the bottom line! They will pay for ruining my credit!

    I was under a 6 month contract that expired but when a representative contacted me about renewing, they explained that my rate would remain the same whether I renewed or not, so I didn't. My rate stayed the same from May 2015 all the way until I canceled my service. My bill averaged about $60 but once I canceled my service, they increased my rate and which made my last bill was almost $200. The only reason they increased my rate was because I canceled my service. One of the representatives even told me that if I didn't cancel, they would lower the bill. They even said that I shouldn't have been paying the low rate so I was lucky that I hadn't be charged the higher rate for the past few months. Another representative even said they wouldn't have noticed had I not called.

    It's not fair that I was penalized for an error on their part. It's absurd to expect me to pay a bill that's tripled! Everyone I spoke to said there was nothing that could be done. I even spoke to a "supervisor" who left me a ridiculous voicemail and didn't even bother returning my call. Don't trust these people. This is poor service on every level. Had I known that the rate would increase, of course I would've done what was necessary to keep my bill manageable but to increase it so drastically was low!

    I was tricked into signing up for their service via door-to-door. And after over a year of unwittingly being vastly overcharged (12 cents per kWh where the average was 6.5), I made a very concerted and explicit effort to cancel service and go back to regular ComEd supply. I then called back a day later to ensure this was the case. This was two months ago and I now see that whomever I spoke to never pulled the trigger, and so for two months I have continued to get absolutely screwed by their insane pricing. These people should be investigated, this is borderline criminal.

    Based on the discount that they gave me, I'd recommend Spark Energy. But it would be nice if Spark Energy could send me something to show there's a difference between them and other companies such as in the rates, so that I'll be confident if I would be recommending them to somebody. Spark Energy issues a paperless statement, so I don't get to see it. I haven't gotten the new statement yet, just to compare this with the old statement.

    2 young men came to my door to talk about energy. I just got home from work and am usually wary of anyone trying to "sell" me something, but I figured these guys had probably had more doors shut in their face than customers, so I gave them a shot. I signed up for energy services (electric and gas). I was unaware that I needed to "renew" my contract and when it expired my bill, which would have been $72 was almost $300! When I called to inquire about this, the gentleman on the phone said "Well if you had renewed your bill would have only been $72."

    So I told him to please renew my contract so my bill would be corrected and he stated "Oh no ma'am. I can renew your contract but that bill will remain $300, since you didn't renew in time." Needless to say, with those kind of sneaky practices and unwillingness on the behalf of your customer service, I cancelled my service and will not be returning. Shame on you & I feel sorry for the poor young people you exploit to try and peddle your deception.

    Botched my transition to energy company and left me with hundreds of dollars in incremental utility charges. Emailed service and got no response for 48 hours. Called service and rep could care less about my losses. Then received an email from President's office who took 4 days to reiterate nonsense excuses and offer a 25 dollar gift card if I signed up again. You have to be kidding. Don't be seduced by their rate plans. They are truly awful and should not be considered as a service provider.

    Spark is okay, but my light bill going up instead of going down. They said that it's supposed to stay at one level, but every month my bill is going up. The first month I paid $80 and that was quite okay, and then last month I paid $100. But I don't know what's going to be this month's bill yet. I called them and they asked if I used AC because the place was hot in the couple weeks for last month, and I said no. I didn't use a lot of AC because nobody was home, and I don't really use a lot of AC in the night. If ever we use it, it's only for a couple of hours and after that everybody goes to bed, and that's it. I have no idea why is it going up. But overall, I'm satisfied because the amount I was paying before from now is okay.

I was supposed to start my service and I even got the letter but there was a glitch so it fell through the cracks. It wasn't on my bill. Then, I happened to call in at the right time and there was a promotion which was what I needed to get the price down.

    The provider I had then was fighting to stay on my account. They were still sending me letters that said I should let them know if I'm interested in coming back but I didn't pay attention to them. I had them for so long but they never even thought that they should drop the rate. I was paying 89 cents per kilowatt which was outrageous. My bill was $500 a month in the summer time and $600 in the winter time. The electricity bill was putting me out of my house and I couldn't pay any other bill. It was so messed up and made me physically ill.

    The issue got straightened out. To go from 89 cents per kilowatt to 0.06 was perfectly worth it. The cost is now affordable. With the difference in my bill, I can pay my taxes on time or cover insurance. I'm glad it's over. I'm hoping I could renew as I don't mind staying with people if they are fair. If they give me a good rate next time, I'm going to keep it because it's the lowest rate I've ever seen. I have already recommended Spark to some people. It was a gift from God.

    It was in the evening when two Spark Energy representatives came into my apartment building and began knocking on all the doors. I opened my door and they immediately came into my apartment, without even asking first and then started hurriedly asking to see my energy bills and how we could save so much if we used Spark Energy. They really don't give you enough space and time for you to really look at the numbers and terms and understand what you're getting yourself into. So naively, I decided to trust them and signed on as a customer. I don't know if their rate was abnormally high but that's not what annoyed me. I moved from my apartment after my 1 year lease was up, but as I signed up a couple months into my lease, I was now hit with an early termination fee.

    Now, it wasn't even the amount of the early termination fee ($100) that annoyed me, it was their way of notifying me. I got a bunch of unhelpful robot messages from Spark Energy asking me to call them back with no indication as to why I should. When I would call them back, I would always have to wait on their automated phone system so I eventually gave up and blocked their number because I assumed it was spam. Had a human called me or even if the robot had given a basic one line reason as to why they were calling me I would have had this fee settled LONG AGO.

    No, instead it was over a year later when I was applying for a mortgage that I learned that they had sent me to collections and it was now showing up on my credit report. I called them and their customer service rep actually said they would waive the charge. I also disputed the charge on my credit report and saw my credit rise over a hundred points. A few months later (that would be today), I get another call from Spark Energy and I call back and they are completely unaware of the waiving.

    Spark Energy sounded good when I first got it but I'm not all that happy with it. There was no difference in my service, but I noticed a difference in my bill. It's more expensive than my ComEd was. It's supposed to be a standard flat rate and stay there. I thought maybe Spark Energy can save money on the delivery charge cost that they say, that they give me the flat rate on it in certain amounts, but it didn't work out. But they are really thorough and they are right there for me. They also seemed to be like a pretty good company for their employees. So maybe they're taking all that extra money and keeping everybody happy.

    I have been a customer for years. I missed the account renewal, got charged more than 3 times my usual bill (usually Maximum is $90/month this was $340/month) for an apartment! After I called to sort it out and renew, I was only told that they couldn't do anything to lower my bill even with a renewal. Usually, especially for a loyal customer and especially if you are willing to renew, companies will lower your fees to fit your current plan, but not this one. Would Not Recommend.

It required the involvement of someone higher up in the chain. The only way I was able to reach that person was through this review process.     Warning: Spark isn't a 4 or 5 star experience for everyone! I recently checked my Spark bill and noticed it had more than doubled from the previous month. I was shocked. I called Spark to inquire and was told it was due to my failure to renew my contract before 9/9/2016. This is a reasonable position to take if there had been a full and complete disclosure. There wasn't. In fact, I knew I was in month to month status and WAS informed that my contract needed to be renewed. BUT, because I am moving at the end of this month, I thought I would complete the renewal at the same time I transferred service.

    Of course, had I known the rates would increase so dramatically I would have renewed immediately. Who wouldn't? At no time was I told an increase this large would occur and if this information was included in an email or letter, it was not obvious or highlighted in any way. The only relevant statement regarding price change on my bills is: "The amount billed on this invoice includes price changes allowed by the rules of the Public Utility Commission."

    I was never under the impression I would be billed at such high rate. I really feel that a clear and specific statement of how much your rates will go up is not an unreasonable expectation. At the end of the day, however, I don't have any way to fight the bill and the only way I can protest is to seek a different provider. Unfortunately, this means nothing to Spark. I'm just one more guy mad at the electric company and Spark could care less.

    I worked for a utility company so I knew about the offerings for generation from a few utilities. But I did my own research about what I thought were the two or three better companies from what I've read, and that's how I chose Spark. They had the best offer and I liked what I read. I chose the fixed rate because I was concerned about how the prices would start climbing. So, I wanted to see if I could lock the price under some reasonable timeframe. In the past, I always relied on the utility to be the purchaser of power, and this was the first time that I went with a provider of the generation on the site.

    They always have the consumer in mind. The only recommendation that I would make is that people receive some sort of information on what to expect on the next cycle, so one way to retain a customer would be to warn them about what's coming on the next billing cycle and why. I think educated consumers tend to be retained more than the ones that are not educated at all.

    We were supposed to switch to Spark but for some reason, it didn't happen. We were left with another carrier at a higher amount. When it came to our attention, we were looking to switch since our bill was so high. We’re on a fixed income and my husband’s going to be 82 and I’m 72. It doesn't make sense for anybody to want to pay more for a basic necessity. It’s not economically sound so we went with the same service at a better price. We looked up in our area who had the best rates per kilowatt at that particular time, and it showed that it was Spark Energy Gas and Electricity.

    I don’t have any problems with Spark. The amount of our electric bill has been reasonable and it’s cheaper than what we were paying before. We got one electric bill that was outrageous with the other company, which was almost $500 or $600 for the month because of heating during the winter. We did have an electric heater on, but it was still way off the chart. On the whole, we're happy with Spark and we haven't had any interruptions or loss of service.

    I have been a client of Spark energy for 18 months. During this time I had a direct debit of 50£/month, and my balance was always negative (paid more than consumed). During this time they told me that if the estimations were near to my consumption I wouldn't have to worry (and they were). When my negative balance reached 300£, they then estimated a magical consumption of 6000kWh with an astonishing invoice of 940£ (when the estimation the last 18 months was between 200 and 400kWh), setting my balance in a debt of 600£ and increasing my direct debit to 150£. When I checked this, I immediately put my readings; the gas was 40 units more than the estimation of the last quarter, and the energy was 50 units (less than they were estimating).

    When I called to reset my direct debit, then they recalculated everything, remove my old invoices from the system, and gave me three new invoices, where magically my balance of -300£ was converted into a debt of 300£ (600£ of difference!!!) and set up the direct debit to 100£. It is astonishing that they can remove old (and paid) invoices, generate new ones, set the consumption divided in time as they get more benefit, and everything starting with a HUGE and crazy estimation to make you bite. Bank always win, and energy companies I guess is the same. NEVER TRUST THIS COMPANY. And ALWAYS ALWAYS ask for paper invoices, as they can remove the old ones, even if paid, from their system, even if are more than one year old.

    FirstEnergy was my previous energy provider and I was pleased with them. They told me that they weren’t gonna be in business any longer and that I was gonna have to get a new provider. Spark's reps kept banging on my door four or five times a day. So, I just signed up with them and told them, “Go away.” None of them took 'no' for an answer and I felt invaded. I don’t know how many times they lied to me. They told me that they were my old providers and they needed a paper signed, trying to get the sale. That’s all they were interested in. I chose a green energy product and it’s becoming too expensive. I got to look into the prices elsewhere. However, in the background, Spark has been good. Luckily, I haven’t had any experience where I needed help with the payments. They also don’t overload me with email and whatnot.

    We pay 30$ more a month with Spark than we would with PG&E. I could understand the guy at the door giving us false numbers in order to sell his product. What makes these guys crooks is that when you try and cancel THEY IGNORE YOU and just keep charging you. It's a 100.00$ cancellation fee if you cancel before one year which we would be happy to pay just to get out from underneath them but after numerous attempts they still won't cancel us.

    Spark Energy had some sort of billing issue with our local supplier, People's Gas. The Spark Energy supplier charge was not included on our People's Gas bill. Spark claims People's Gas rejected the charges. People's Gas claims they never got the charges from Spark...Either way, I (the consumer) paid my bill on time every month to People's Gas never realizing there was a problem behind the scenes with those two entities. I was never notified by Spark of a billing issue. Dispute doing everything right, Spark Energy just sent me to Collections and put a black eye on my credit for something I had no control over and was never informed of. I've tried discussing with People's Gas. They insist they did not receive "supplier charges" from Spark for the months in question and provided me bill copies for each month with the "no supplier charge received" designation noted on each invoice. People's Gas points me back to Spark.

    When I tried talking to Spark Energy, they claim their charges were rejected by People's Gas, which I have no way to validate. And because PG has no record of the charges, I have no way to confirm that the summary spreadsheet sent to me by Spark Energy billing/customer service is valid or accurate. It seems like this dispute should be between Spark & People's Gas. If People's Gas was rejecting their charges that should be dealt with at the supplier/wholesale level with those two providers.

    Spark can't explain why no one reached out to me during the time frame in dispute (1/12/15 - 8/15/15). If they weren't getting paid during that stretch why was I never notified? How does it end up my fault? I paid my bill to their supplier every month on time via autopay. It feels extremely dirty and unfair that I'm getting sent to Collections and getting a significant credit score hit for a balance that I wasn't made aware of, can't substantiate, and can't get a rational explanation on.

    This company called Current Choices looked at our background generally and suggested that Spark Energy would be the best company for us. They said it might change around this time so we should re-examine everything. My husband seven years ago had signed us up for something that made us have the most extraordinary electric bills every month and the bill definitely went down after we got Spark Energy inadvertently.

    Spark can tell us all the things to do but we have some things we really can't control. We have a well which requires a well pump, two water softening systems - one for the hard water and for the CO2 in the water that makes the house smell like rotten eggs, and we have a heater in the winter, then we have not only the air conditioning but the swimming pool as well in the summer. So we've got a lot of juice just dealing with that. Our last month's bill is $21,980 and most of them up till now have been $2,000 or $3,000 to $5,000. I'll get paid at once. It's difficult and I'm 79 and my husband is 82 and he's got disability. It took a while to get rid of the previous company that was here, but the bill has been better since having Spark Energy. My experience working with Spark Energy has been good.

    My main source of electricity is Eversource and I had Verde as a discount last year. Verde was charging me $49 even when Eversource went down.     Spark were a little misleading when they came to the house and they kept throwing out that 10.5 and only discussed the winter months. There were two of them and they teamed up on us. They didn't discuss spring or summer. And with the summer coming, I'm afraid I'm not gonna save hardly anything. I don't feel right about it. I'm hanging in there but I'm not saving much money.

    We called customer service because we were upset that with the first two billings, we thought they were billing us. They were rude to my wife and said that we have to call our electric company about that. So we did and we got the dope that they were behind and that, "No, we only pay one bill and that's our normal electric company." My wife wanted to cancel a couple of weeks ago and we re-read the fine print, and there was a $100 cancellation fee on it or something ridiculous. So, once again, I'm not the happiest consumer. We feel bad. We will probably never talk to another salesperson or representative knocking on our door ever again. Overall, it was not a good experience.

    I got the electric heat with Spark on the Cape house, a duplex, and I added another house. They should give us a better break than what they're giving. There is very little savings. For me, it wasn't even worth the trouble to go through. Last month my electric bill was about $300 and the month before that was about $400. The only thing is that they're having troubles with the electric on the houses. I'm trying to get it changed to the people's names and they're screwing around, it always comes to my name. The people they have over there in Texas are not so smart. It's taken them six months to figure out that there are new people living in the houses. They can't get things straightened. My tenants called them so I think they got it squared away. I wouldn't recommend Spark because I see very little changes - it ain't even worth it.

    I was living in Chicago when one day around the beginning of December 2013, a gentleman with a clipboard showed up at my apartment claiming to be from Spark, and that they would be taking over my utility delivery. I was told that it was already a done deal, but that I would be getting cheaper bills moving forward. I assumed that this was some kind of merger, and that the company was just notifying its new clients. I told them I would be moving in May 2014, and didn't want to be on any kind of contract. I was told that if I moved, I could just cancel my service with them the same way as with Peoples Gas. I lived there until May 2014 then moved out.

    Months later, I starting receiving letters and phone calls from Spark saying I owed them for early termination. After months of this, I finally got on the phone with someone and got it all taken care of. Now, a year later, I am getting phone calls again for an early termination fee, and threatened with having my credit damaged. If anyone else has had a similar experience, please advise!

    Spark Energy called me at my landline and gave high gas price per therm but they promised me of removing distribution and service charges every month which would eventually lower my bill than what I used to pay. After looking at my first bill no charges were removed and charged me higher gas price. Finally the amount was at least $60 more than what I used to pay. False information was given to get new customers. When I called them they just said sorry and they don't know who promised. They don't try to investigate why did it happen because they knew they were making all false promises. I wish I could give 0 stars here.

    I was slammed back in 2012 but decided to stay anyway. I entered into a 2 year fixed contract at 11c/unit in February of 2015, but Spark just unilaterally raised the rate to 16c/unit on September bill and 17.7c/unit in November bill and is still at that rate. I called 2/9 and they said they would check on it and get back to me in 2-3 days. I called 6 weeks later 3/31, after another bill and they acknowledged they have been overcharging me, but new bill on 4/8 still is at 17c/unit. From what I have found on the first call they plead ignorance, apologize profusely, and promise that they will look into it. And then, from my experience, do nothing. 2nd call, they have to refer it to the billing department, then do nothing. On my gas bill they started billing me the off contract rate 1 month before expiration of contract price. On a previous problem it took them months to correct it, to refund me. Although after all that time I don't know if I received what I should have.

    A little over a year ago Spark Energy representatives came to my home trying to convince me to switch my supplier. I told them no and they left. However, a few days later they came while I was at work and my wife was home. Essentially the sales rep convinced my wife to sign a contract stating she was an authorized user on my account (which she wasn't) and locked us into their fixed rate for a year. I called once I realized that my supplier had been switched without my consent and Spark Energy refused to acknowledge that they had fraudulently made changes to my account without my consent. So I stayed stuck with them for 1 year.

    Here we are 1 year later and after doing the math, I paid more than I had the year before! From March 2014 - February 2015 I used 702 Therms and paid $1033 during that time. From March 2015 - February 2016 I used 687 Therms and paid $1304 during that time. I spent $300 more to use less gas! Finally I'm out of the contract and switching back to People's Gas. BEWARE! Stay Away from Spark Energy if you're in Illinois!

    I chose Spark for the price that they offered. Price stability is important to me, and it's a year's contract and I can shop then. It was more complicated than I thought it was going to be but that’s alright. I’m more comfortable with the process than I was in the past, only because I had to be. The idea of shopping electrical prices was sort of silly to me, but then all of a sudden when my local utility jacked up prices 25%, it became less than silly and I was like, “I need to do something.” Then we had to call somebody and go through a process, and that’s fine.

    We've seen lower monthly bills in Spark's service. We’re down 2 cents from what I was at, which is something. Everything is fine so far and I would recommend them to a friend. But I’m assuming that most of this is price-driven. I’m assuming that when people want to lower their rates, they’re going to go where they can go. The price has been what they said it’s going to be, and then we work from there.

    I notice our PG&E bill missing for the month of December but didn't think much of it as the kids sometimes move our mail around. Come January I noticed a huge spike in our gas usage. I saw a new line on our bill for Spark Energy. I called PGE and was advised that I had signed up for their services. I let PGE know there must be some mistake as I have not changed anything to my knowledge. PGE said I would have to take it up with Spark Energy. I called my next day free and let them know that this had to be a mistake that I never authorized this and it was fraud. The customer service rep assured me someone would reach out to me in a few days. 10 days later I called again this time only to be referred to collections as I hadn't aid my bill. Funny I didn't know I would have to pay for something I never authorized.

    I was transferred several times only to speak with a supervisor who played the recording of my so called husband's voice. We both listened and let Perla know this is not my husband. She replied "yes it is and the charges are valid." She said the call came in on my husband's phone line. In 26 years of marriage we always make decisions together and would never change something like this without consulting each other. To make sure I reviewed our phone bill for both incoming and outgoing calls made from both mine and his numbers and cannot find one call made to Spark Energy in November or December.

    I am not sure where else to turn but would like to get the CEO's address so I can let him know exactly how I feel. I have since went on Facebook and other social media channels to read horror stories about this company and several times accounts were created fraudulently. My next stop will be to the BBB, local news and local DA office to file fraud charges armed with my phone bill as proof we never called and set this service up.

    So a guy showed up to my door telling me to sign these papers to switch my PG&E gas service to Spark. I was going to get a lower rate and it will show up on my bill. He also stated I would have one gas supplier. OK but why am I paying more in gas than if I would have just having it from PG&E? I was informed about the $100 early termination fee but you didn't tell me I had to pay it upfront at time of cancelling. So since I don't have the $100 on hand you won't cancel my service. Your rep who came to my door was very pushy and directed me on what to say on the 3rd party phone call as he had me put it on speakerphone while doing his head gestures on what to say yes and no to. This company is a total scam and rip off. You're forcing people to keep you in business by requiring the $100 before you will terminate my service at my request. Something needs to be done with this company fast.

    I am extremely frustrated with Spark Energy. In December 2015 we noticed that our bill was extremely high and we called to find out why. We were told that there had been an error with their billing for the past couple of months. They didn't send the charges to Nicor for ~2 months, which resulted in a higher bill for the month of December. At the time that my husband called, no one mentioned to him that our 12 month contract was expiring which would raise our rate. We accepted their explanation of our bill being higher because it was a couple of months worth.

    In January 2016 when we received our bill, there was an error on my part by not calling right away. It wasn't until February 18 that I compared the current bill to the year before and saw that even though our usage was lower, the bill was much higher. I realized that our rate had increased (almost 3X as much!). I called Spark to renegotiate our contract and see if they would retro the new pricing to the beginning of the bill period. They told me there was nothing they could do with the past pricing because they "sent a letter" regarding the end of our contract.

    This month, after receiving another outrageous bill, I called again. I was told that the bill period was 1/22-2/23 and we got our new contract 2/18. I asked if there was anything they could do to work with us on the total amount due since we haven't been able to pay the full amount. After being on hold for a couple of minutes, the rep came back to the line saying all he could do was send us a $25 gift card and retro the last 6 days of our bill to the new rate.

    The rep was very friendly, but the fact that the company is not willing to work with customers on billing when something like this happens is extremely frustrating. The collections department continues to call me at least twice a day even though I've told them that I'm unable to pay the full amount (& we are sending payments every couple of weeks).     It is my experience and my opinion that this company is very misleading. My wife and I were approached at our home one afternoon by a man representing himself as an agent for Spark Gas and Electric. He told us that we could save money on our gas bill by "signing up" with his company. Signing-up turned out to be a verbal agreement on our part to receive these lower rates on our bill. He made a call on his cell-phone to another company representative and then, while he was on the phone he asked us if we wanted to do this. It was our understanding that we were "signing up" for lower gas rates. There was no indication of any fees associated with this. We said yes to the lower rates.

    Now, in addition to PG&E's gas procurement and delivery rates we are also getting charged by Spark, a delivery fee that closely matches PG&E's. So, we are paying up to twice as much in delivery and/or procurement fees as we would without this Spark arrangement. On our bill this has amounted to between $20-$25 additional fees. Realizing this, we contacted customer service at Spark, requesting termination of our agreement. We were informed that it would cost us $100.00 for "early termination." We told them that no one told us of these extra fees or any termination charges, early or otherwise. They stated that we agreed to this with their "verbal contract." Any verbal contract we made included only our understanding that we would be paying lower rates for our gas.

    Their response was that "we agreed to the program," when we said yes to the lower rates. There was no written contract. We only learned of their hidden fees when we began to look at our rising costs on our utilities bill and saw the entries there. This company and/or their representatives or agents deceived us by withholding or omitting information. My repeated attempts to get any satisfaction or reasonable conversation from this firm ended only in denials and higher levels of runarounds. I have yet to receive a promised call from a 3rd level supervisor. To my horror, but not to my surprise there are many, many complaints about his company that I found after doing a little research on the internet. Please beware!

(The power/energy's the same and I'm only interested in the dollar amount 'cause that's what makes the business go on.)     We live in California. PG&E had been our long time provider. A Sparks Energy rep came to our door one evening. The rep was a very young, very polite, very convincing lady who explained why we should sign on with Sparks. We were told how much money we would be saving and how Sparks is committed to customer satisfaction. When the new bills started coming in it became extremely confusing to understand. PG&E was still sending us a bill. Enclosed in the same billing envelope from PG&E was a bill from Sparks. Yet when I called PG&E they could not help me. I was instructed to call Sparks. My mother has called Sparks 3 times. Each time she has cancelled with them. Each time the reps say the contract is cancelled. The only letter we received from Sparks was a Welcome letter sent 3 weeks after the first cancellation call was made to them.

    Our bills have been over $200 a month for 3 months now. Before Sparks came into the picture our highest bill was around $150 and on average about $100-$110. We are being charged about $100 from PG&E about $100 and about $135 from Sparks = $235 per month. My mother is a senior citizen. Sparks reps have straight up lied to her repeatedly over the phone by telling her her cancellation has been honored yet the bills keep coming in. Today's phone call (March 1, 2016) ended with Sparks and PG&E telling my mother she has to pay the bill and then Sparks would cancel her account. Same story as the 3 times before.

    I am disappointed with PG&E as well as Sparks and I feel these companies are in cahoots in the scamming of God knows how many hard working, bill paying customers. Both companies are billing together in the same billing envelope yet only one company will talk to you about your billing and that company is straight up deceitful. As a freelance writer I will be writing about my experience every opportunity I get. I am looking into obtaining legal representation for a class action lawsuit started against Sparks Energy and PG&E respectively.

    If you get a knock on your door from Sparks Energy I strongly suggest you simply say "no thank you". We have been scammed hundreds of dollars and robbed of any satisfaction and trust we previously had in both of the aforementioned companies. This wreaks of a greedy scam from both PG&E and from Sparks Energy. No shame in their game. Next step is calling both companies yet again. Look for my update on this site. My hope is to be able to resolve this fairly and once and for all. My hope is also to stop other people from getting scammed like so many of us already have. Don't be lied to. Dont get scammed. Don't sign up with Sparks Energy.

    Updated on 4/26/2016: Hello, my name is Claudia and I reside in Monterey County, Ca. I have one previous review (also about Spark Energy). Immediately after I posted my first review about my awful experience with Spark Energy I was contacted by a man named Mr. Luis ** from the Office of the President at Spark Energy. Mr. ** was very polite and apologetic. He assured me he would do everything he could to straighten out the situation. Mr. ** promptly contacted me again and informed me he had located the account as well as a record of one of the calls made by my mother requesting cancellation with Spark Energy. He could not offer me a reason why the request was not honored and went on to say he had made a request of cancellation himself and said our account would be credited with the difference in rates from Jan 2016 until April. I decided I would wait for the next bill to arrive before making contact with Mr. ** again.

    I decided I would take the time to educate myself more on the subject and I also contacted PG&E and requested copies of past bills going back to the first time Spark Energy appeared on our billing statements. In my last review I stated a representative from Spark Energy had come to our door asking to see our PG&E bill. When we spoke by phone, Mr. ** said the records indicated otherwise (he stated the records indicated original contact and agreement to switch to Spark Energy was made via phone and not by a rep at our door. Here's what actually took place; a Spark Energy rep did in fact come to our front door. She was very polite and asked to see our bill for the purpose of showing us how much money we could save by switching to Spark Energy.

    Once my mother supplied the current bill, she told us we could save lots of money by switching to Spark and said she would call it in herself and said the person on the phone was going to ask a few simple questions and said she would tell us what to respond. We staged an informal rehearsal right then and there it before she called it in. The phone call went exactly as she said it would. In essence, Mr. ** was correct in saying the agreement was made by phone. However, it was made via phone thru a rep from Spark Energy at our door who called it in herself and who coached us on what to answer to the specific questions asked.

    Mr. ** was very polite and promptly sent me an update email (see image 1). In that email he stated our accounts closing date was 4/18/2016. Yet the latest bill (see image 2) starting 4/19/2016 and due on 5/10/2016 shows Spark energy still on the bill.

    Like I said in my last review Spark energy--STRAIGHT UP LIARS. I rated Spark Energy one star because that is the lowest rating possible. I am more upset now than I was last time. I read somewhere on ConsumerAffairs my last review had been disputed. If by that you mean straight up lied to again and scammed, then yes it was disputed. Spark Energy is a scam and out to rip you off. I have not had any further contact with Mr. ** since the last email he sent me. I have no intentions of contacting Spark Energy because it's been lie after lie after straight up lie. Do yourselves a favor and don't get ripped off by these people. Slam your door when they show up... Keep an eye out for my update on this situation.

    Spark energy is a scam. They came to my door and convinced me into signing up. Talked about saving money & comparable rates. After a year they increased their rates to an amount that's insane. My bill ended up being 4x versus a neighbor who just has the normal adjustable market rate through Nicor (.25/therm versus mine which hiked up to 1.25/therm). I called & they wouldn't do anything about our current bill besides offering some "very valuable coupons via email." Thanks, but no thanks. Even if I had signed up again they would not adjust my current bill. We have a large family & cannot pay these insane bills from them. They don't care & aren't willing to help in any way.

    Customer service is horrible. We've called multiple times & never get to a manager. We have cancelled & I would never suggest this to anyone!!! Do not do it!!! They price gouge & have no problem sleeping at night while charging you ridiculous amounts once your contract expires. They take full advantage of people & their busy lives. I've filed complaints with the ICC about them and will continue to spread the word about how horrible this company is.

    This is really a very horrible & depressing experience I ever had with any company in a very long time. They just scam people into using their services by providing low monthly rates during the contract and then switch without a warning and charge ridiculous fees. I don't know when the contract expired and the rates went to month-to-month basis. There was no communication. If they need money or want you to sign for new services, they come knocking on your door or make umpteen calls but when there is a rate change that will adversely affect you, it is not their business then. Even if I am willing to work with them to extend the contract, they cannot backdate the fees, they want you to suffer from the higher rates and payments. This is really a scam and everyone should avoid this company.

    My last two bills are so out of line! $187.00 for January and $239.00 for February. Unaware that I was to renew a contract, Spark Energy raised my rate to 1.39900 per Ccf. My bills with Columbia Gas would have been 69.00 for Feb and $89.00 for Feb. When I called to cancel your service I was told I was sent something to renew my contract. I never saw anything and no one from this company ever notified me by email or phone. I am so disappointed that this company took it upon themselves to raise my rates without my approval. What a scam!

    I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this supplier and I have notified BBB. My neighbor also was affected the same way I was so this is not a way to do business and stay in business. Pissed off consumers can and will destroy your business by word of mouth and we are so upset about being scammed by this company. Back with my Columbia Gas and will never change suppliers again.

    Sparks prices draw me to them. I've had another provider in the past and I didn't like it. All the other stuff of it is not good at all. The monthly bills were too high compared to Spark.     I received a final bill from Spark Energy when I discontinued and went to the budget plan for Nicor. They sent me a bill that was 3 times as much as usual monthly bill I was getting billed for through Nicor Gas. I called to have them explain this bill as there was no explanation for this amount. The bill had zeroes in usage and the same meter reading in previous and current, billing period was same day 12/16/2015 - 12/16/2015 with number of days as 0. I requested a itemized bill and since the due day was coming up I inquired about any fees or late charges because I always pay things on time. They said they would send and there would be no fees. I received a bill in the mail a week or 10 days later, this time with 30 days in the billing period, but zeroes in previous meter reading and the current meter reading was the same with the usage showing the entire current meter reading. Oh and there was a 4.95 monthly fee added.

    This is the first time I had Spark and so far it's good when you don't have to pay a hundred and something dollars. I only live on widow disability and so I went with them because of their low rates. When I lived at other places, we had gas so my electricity was at $30, sometimes $40. But now that I got electricity, it was at $149 then got it down to $100. It’s terrible when I got to pay this and that, and I bet they are getting richer and we’re getting broker. And then now when I saw it's $73, my money management person is going to be really happy. We’ll see how much next time.     In September I had a Spark Energy rep come to my door. I was told I would have a lower bill and that regardless of my tier that my bill would be cheaper. I asked if it would affect my CARE services, she said no. When I just checked my bill I was paying almost $20 more than with PG&E alone. I am not saving money as promised. I called and informed them that it was costing me money that I could not afford. They said I would have to pay a cancellation fee and after talking with a supervisor I would have to pay $50 to cancel. Even though they did not tell the truth about the services cost.

    Somewhere in their contract they should have to say that the their costs are only cheaper on the second tier. I am very dissatisfied, feel like information was unclear and not accurate of what would happen. They refused letting me talk to upper management. And were very unflexible. While I feel it would be appropriate to receive a credit for the difference in the charges I didn't ask for that. They should not be allowed to provide this service if they cannot accurately represent what happens with their services. I can't even cancel unless I give them money which is ridiculous.

    This is the most horrible experience I ever had with any company in a very long time. When I called they told me that it is up to me to know when contract expires and that I still will be with them, just at much, much higher rates. It is probably stated somewhere in the pile of pages in our contract, but important information like this should be communicated to the customer and not hidden. Nobody is helpful from this company. STAY AWAY.

    I signed up for services with Spark in August 2015. Thanks to a salesperson who was knocking my door and try to provide me spark gas services. I was told that using their services I was going to lower my gas rate and that it would be more even on a monthly basis throughout the year. Now that December passed I got my bill and it's higher than what I had paid with my PG&E. I can't afford to pay the cancellation fee or I would cancel immediately. This is a nightmare if I'm not happy with their rate and they are not promising what they're selling. Now they want to ripping me off on the cancellation fee to get more money out of me. I will not recommend this service to anyone. If I would have known it was going to cost me more money to use them then I would have never signed up. I'm a very real upset customer.

    I signed up for services with Spark in June 2015. Thanks to a salesperson who was knocking my door and try to provide me spark gas services. At first I said "NO THANK YOU". She was keep insisting telling me that using their services I was going to lower my gas rate. .69 cents per each Therms. No matter if I go more than 5 or 6 therms my rate will remain the same. Now that December passed I got my bill and it's higher than what I had paid with my PG&E. From last year, so I called to cancel my service. NOW they are telling me that since I used more therms my rate have to change. When I said "I would like to cancel my services" they said "okay HOW would you liked to pay the cancellation fee of $145.00?" I said to the rep. "As far as I knew the salesperson told me that I can cancel my service anytime and no cancellation fee will be apply."

    Now I have to search the contract in my house and submitted. They also told me that they are going to pull out my phone call when I sign up with them over the phone when I agree on their services. I have to wait for 48 hours. To confirm if they said that cancellation fee is at no charge. This is a nightmare if I'm not happy with their rate and they are not promising what they're selling. Now they want to ripping me off on the cancellation fee to get more money out of me. I will not recommend this service to anyone. Because their rates, and if they will mention to me about the cancellation fee at the beginning trust me I will never sign up. - I'm a very real upset customer.

    I was contacted promptly by the office of the president of Spark. Mr Luis ** resolved my issue within hours. I cannot state how grateful my family is for such a quick resolution.

    My father a 77 yrs old and widowed in the last 15 months was duped into switching to Spark from PG&E in Fresno. My mother had been the one to handle all the affairs as my father is slightly illiterate. Since 6/2015 his bill is now double what it was before switching due to the delivery rate of PG&E. Since my mother's death I placed all his bills on autopay and only bothered to check if something seemed off. Until recently. I was unaware that there had been a change in my father's Gas company. He stated that he had no idea why his bill was so high. When I contacted PG&E I was informed that they no longer provided the gas service for my father. I immediately asked how this had happened and they informed me I needed to contact Spark. After speaking to a rep at length they claim that my father agreed to switching, that they could prove this. I was given the same information that many others on the Consumer Affairs website have stated.

    They have a phone call verifying you agreed. They explained a delivery charge, someone will call you back in 3-days (which never happened). They explained they had no control over PG&E delivery cost although they did not explain that the delivery cost would triple after switching. My father who should be pay about $150.00 for his total gas and electric bill is now paying $158 for delivery on a $138.00 gas bill. We tried to cancel and was informed that we would have a cancellation fee of $100. This is robbery. My father has an income of $1200 monthly, he has a mortgage and cannot afford to pay for utilities at this rate. The rep informed me that he could switch the plan to one where he has unlimited gas for just 34.00. Wow I wonder how many seniors are roped into this plan. Although the gas procurement charges may cost less with this company it's not worth it if it cost double in delivery charges.

    This constitutes a sham. On a final note I was also informed that it would take over a month just to switch back, basically informing me that my father would have to continue to pay these outrageous bill for at least 2 more billing cycles. What a crock. I read other customer reviews stating the same exact complaint that I have today. We can't all be wrong. These are bad practices. I do not believe that anyone should be held hostage in contract for heat in the winter. They should not have to pay a cancellation fee that is as much or more than their gas bill. What is someone on a fixed income supposed to do? Go bankrupt over gas procurement and delivery charges. Both PG&E and Spark should be ashamed of how they have gone about this.

    I'm on Spark Energy's Green product because the salesperson said it was the best thing for me. Also, he told me that I’ll save money, which was not true. Spark Energy is very expensive, and their people were very quick to get me off the phone. I used another provider in the past with better service and cheaper prices.     If you decide to go month to month versus contract with the view that gas costs will drop (and they did), Spark jacks your rate to 4x spot. I called and they refused to fix. Obviously I cancelled service. I'm contacting attorney general, my IL congressman Ron Sandack, and Chicago TV and newspapers. Spark is an unethical sharp dealer and should be barred from offering to consumers.

    This company is promoting green energy but they are charging almost triple what the local utility charge for the same amount of gas. They send no updates on rate increases and work in the dark. They should be monitored by the CPUC and banned from supplying service to people that believe they are helping the environment. We are getting scammed.

    Spark Energy's team is friendly but it took months to get activated. I called once and thought it was all done. Nobody called to tell me that there was a problem. My monthly bill hadn't changed, so I thought it just takes time. I called again and they said some information was not matching. They updated and two months later, they still didn't change it. So I called again and they said they'd take care of it. Overall, it took like 3 calls and 6 months to get activated and that was disappointing. If something got changed, they should have called us to find out. I don't know why they don't monitor that something got changed.

    I have received an outrageous bill from spark Energy for the month of December. When I called to talk about it they said because I didn't renew my contract they are charging me a daily rate. Nothing was mentioned to me about any renewal at any time and I did not receive any letter from them stating about the renewal. I am their customer for over a year and paid them on time all the time. They don't even show a courtesy to at least handle the current bill with lowest rate even when I agreed to forget about the December bill and agreed to renew my contract.

    I would pay over a $1000.00 for 2 months when in normal my bill would be about $350.00. I believe they are literally want their customers to not have any chance to renew the contract. Otherwise they would have contact their customers at least twice about reminding about the renewal. As far as I know or in my experience I didn't have to renew a contract with anyone else in the past annually to receive the regular price. I would not suggest anyone to go with Spark Energy.

    I had a contract with Spark Gas to supply gas to our home which contract ended on December 1st. I called on November 19, 2015 to cancel our contract, and called another supplier to ensure that they would continue supplying gas. On January 12, I received our gas bill which was quite high and called our gas company and was informed that Spark Energy was still supplying gas but at an enormously high gas rate. I contacted Spark and was told that I was not on a contract as I had never cancelled the contract; thus, the contract never renewed. While I cancelled the contract, I had to cancel as of today, the cancellation could not go through for another month.

    While Spark said that they had gone through all old calls, they could not find a call of mine cancelling. I gave them the date but they said no call was ever made. For two months, I will have to pay about $1500 for gas service to Spark. This is so outrageous and in my mind, illegal. Charging an outrageous rate. Something must be done, even if I have to go to the Attorney General for relief.

    Few years ago I faintly remember seeing a flyer. I called the company and they promised pricing to be same or better compared with PG&E, local than current gas provider for usage (not delivery). Trusted the words and did not cross verify later. After seeing hefty bills I started investigating and came to know over the years I was overcharged 2-3 times on average, approximately. I was very shocked and disappointed. Upon calculations, this amounts to thousands of dollars of overcharge.

    The reason I signed up was to save on my monthly bill for gas since it was only available for gas. The salesman was very nice and explained he used this company for his gas and what I thought was everything to me. I didn't notice my bill had gone up almost double for gas since I switched over until this last month. My bill showed gas price from Spark at a current rate and the PG&E delivery rate for almost the same price. Double paying for the same thing since delivery fees are included in what I was charged by PG&E prior to the switch. So the information by the salesperson was misleading by telling me it would be about the same. I called and they told me that they had no control over the delivery fees and that I agreed to their rate.

    Not once did they discuss that my delivery fees by PG&E were included in what I was paying prior and I may want to get a quote on what fees might be prior to me switching. I would have NEVER agreed to pay what I was paying prior to switching in delivery fees and then be charged from this company to only supply the gas for the same rate. I talked with the rep about what happened. He told me I need to pay cancelation fee. I asked for a supervisor on my first call, they told me I would receive a call in 15 minutes. One hour later, I call and again talked to a rep who told me I would receive a call in 3 days so they could get the recording seriously. I just wanted to be done with this company!

    The supervisor then got on the phone after demanding numerous times! Surprising, they played the tape that would take them "3 days to get" according to the rep and I heard the part where they mentioned delivery from a company. Prior to being able to cancel with them, I had to pay a cancelation fee upfront, risk my PG&E being shut off in doing so and my next billing cycle will be charged because they don't determine when the meter will be read by PG&E!!! This company does not do anything besides get paid to sit on their butt and collect money because honestly they do absolutely nothing! Biggest mistake of my life to switch! Hundreds of dollars later, lesson learned!

    A man and a woman came to our house and told us about Spark. The team members at Spark treated me well in my interactions with them.     I signed up for services with Spark in August 2015. As far as I knew everything had been going swimmingly well. That is until December 2015. I received a bill in the mail from spark energy for $100 for cancellation fee. First off just in order to find out that it was in fact a cancellation fee I had to spend approximately 15 minutes on the phone. Second of all I find out that the reason for this cancellation fee charge is because they've not been receiving payment from PG&E.

    The original agreement was that they would subsidize my gas cost and their rates would lower my monthly PG&E Bill. Their bills would come on the PG&E bills and PG&E would pay Spark's portion out of my payments sent in to PG&E. Well after speaking with Spark energy this morning, I find out the PG&E has not been sending them payment since I signed up in August. Even though I've paid my bill in full every month to PG&E, as directed when I signed up for Spark energy program. So regardless they haven't received their money and over 90 days yet today is the first time I receive anything in the mail from them.

    When I got on the phone with a representative from Spark energy he confirmed my phone number, my mailing address and even my emails. Which to me proof they had multiple ways of getting in touch with me had they not received their money yet. Furthermore I offered to show proof of payment to PG&E to prove that I had in fact been paying the bills as I was instructed to do. The disconnect seems to be between Spark Energy And PG&E. However I am the one paying the price and the price tag is $100. Spark energy refuses to hear what I have to say or work with me. I would never, ever recommend spark energy program to anyone trying to save money!

    I have never received a notice that my contract has expired. When I received my billing they doubled charged me what PGE had charged me. This isn't right. I am on a fixed income. How can I cancel the contract altogether. Phone call what staying on the cell phone 60 mins and what email address do I use that works. Plus they charge $100.00 to cancel the contract. Really! I thought they wanted to help people with low fixed income not scam us. And if they checked my billing statements they will notice that my statements have always been low. That should have told them. I have not ever received statement notice that my contract needs to be renewed. And now after all of this that has happened I want to cancel it. I don't need this added stress. PGE bill was a lot lower than yours!! Now I want it canceled!!

    I am extremely dissatisfied with Spark Energy. In August 2014 their sales guy came to my door suggesting by enrolling to receive gas with Spark Energy, my gas bill will go down. He also gave me fixed rate etc. But after enrolling with them my gas bill rose to 7 times high. I repeatedly called Spark Energy to explain sudden increase in my gas bill and so many unexplained charges but they never cooperated. I was pushed between Spark and PG&E but did not get my bill reduced. I want Spark energy to return all my money, I am extremely unhappy with them and will never recommend Spark Energy to anyone.

    A Spark representative came to my door and presented Spark as a significant savings from PG&E due to the fluctuating prices at PG&E. Quite the contrary. Spark is expensive and I recently calculated that I am spending more than 2 times what PG&E would be charging me. Furthermore they lock you into a contract that cost $100 to cancel. This is what is commonly called "highway robbery" and a total misrepresentation of what is actually offered.

    I'm very upset with Spark Energy because they've been calling my house and they told me I'm gonna receive $75 each for me and my mother, and then after two months they send me a bill that's over a hundred dollars because it's canceled. I don't understand anything about this. My daughter called Eversource and they said my bill is over $500 because it's canceled with the program and I changed programs 12 times, which is not true. They said they don't have anything in the computer with Spark Green and then I got the bills on my house to pay over the 500 a month. That's why I don't understand them. I don't know what's going on. I'm struggling to pay my bills because I am in disability for two years and I have no work.

    We're not too happy about the Spark because I'm paying too much for it. I was tricked into it when a person came to my house and installed the cable, internet and phone then he told me about spark and that my mother was saying yes so he asked for the light bill that's under her name. I gave it to him and I noticed that he was signing me up for spark. Then I got a letter a couple of weeks ago then a guy came to the door a couple of weeks later and told me that my application that I had put in Spark didn't go through and he was here to finish the work that the last person didn't finish. That's when I found out that that guy signed me up for Spark.

    I told the guy that I wasn't interested in it and he said he'll take me off the list then left. But then a couple of months later, I received a letter from Spark showing me the differences and the percentage show that I'm paying more with Spark than if I wasn't with them. Their employees or whoever they send to people's houses should've explained to me what they are really about and that I had to sign up with Spark before they gave me a special offer for the cable. That's how I was tricked into it and then I ended up not even getting the cable - that's not right. It's on my things-to-do to call them and let them know that I want to take it out. Although, the second guy who came here said to me that there will be no fee to cancel it, but the letter states that I would be charged 150 to cancel. And, that's another thing that I need to speak to them about.

    We're considering ending the contract with Spark at the end of the year because they're more expensive than our old provider. Spark's generation rate is 9.69 kWh, whereas the other provider's standard service rate is 8.228. We moved to Spark because of the size of our bill and wanted to reduce our monthly cost which hasn't happened. Our bill is now $500 a month. Everything is well with our experience except for the billing rate as it came in as a shock. Our entire experience is disappointing.

    I signed up for Spark Energy electricity supply earlier this year and have received their services since then. My billing is conducted through Eversource and I pay my bills promptly. In late October, I received a most threatening and alarming letter from Spark Energy. Printed on pink paper, the heading was in bold: TERMINATION NOTICE. I was informed that my account was past due and the failure to pay will result in a termination of my gas service. It went on to threaten that it was an urgent matter and that Spark would pursue all legal remedies including, but not limited to a collection agency, which may have a negative effect on my credit score, filing a petition for the collection of debt in the appropriate court of law, or any other remedy allowed by law to collect this debt. In addition I will be charged an additional 33% administration fee should my account be referred to an outside collection agency.

    It concluded with a lovely message: NO FURTHER NOTICE WILL BE MAILED. First thing Monday morning, I promptly called the number on my threatening notice and was told I had called the wrong number. Great, the number I was instructed to call only services customers in another state! It took me half a morning and 6 different phone calls to finally be told my account was in fact in good standing and that I should disregard the mailing. First of all, Spark Energy is not my gas provider. Secondly, I am not delinquent in any of my energy payments.

    I received an extremely threatening, alarming and upsetting letter, which in all my years, have never experienced. Although I received an email the next day informing me that I had received the letter in error, my feeling is that it never should have happened. And that for the stress and misery I suffered, they have lost me as a customer for good. As soon as I am allowed to leave Spark Energy, I will. I'd like to leave immediately, but if so, I will be charged an early exit termination fee of $100!

    The service of Spark Energy Gas and Electricity is good. Everything is great. But I'm paying more right now than Eversource (used to be Connecticut Line Power), the one that I just left. I got the letter, and Spark is more expensive. So, I've called and spoke to the lady and she said, "Well, you know, they do that." I'm in a fixed rate right now. But comes the winter, they're gonna jack their rates up. So, I'll be paying more. I'm hoping that it will at least be a less. I don't want to be paying more after doing this switch over.

    The transition was not a big deal. They were very helpful and nice. But I switched to Spark Energy to save money, not to pay out more. But right now I'm paying out more than what I was paying with Eversource. Spark Energy set me to flatter and they give me power. They have to form a better rating or writing in their computer. So, I'm not happy nor satisfied with Spark Energy and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody unless I find out that I get a lower rate.

    I had a really bad experience with my previous electricity and natural gas provider. They didn't send me any paperwork to renew and then last January our bill went up by $500 a month. Cancelling with them cost me $1500, because it will take weeks for it to go through the whole system. I was looking for someone else that was a little more above board, so we decided to use Spark.     I have been switched to a different program by 3 different people in a 60 day period of time, claiming that "the previous person put us in the wrong program." In September 2015 I received a bill directly from SPARK Energy charging me $100 for changing my rate plan, which they sent their employee to do in "error correction." Now, my current PG&E bill says $227.04 current bill, but in total amount shows $200 more than current bill with no explanation as to why.

    I missed a payment in September due to my auto bill not going through without my knowledge, and when I received a follow-up bill stating I missed the payment, I went online and paid it right away. To make a long story short, I have been paying my bill to PG&E, and they then send the payment to Spark. Well, Spark is now telling me they have not received a payment from PG&E since July and am several months behind, while PG&E is stating my account is up to date and the problem is Spark Energy's records and not them. Both companies are giving me the runaround, and I am not getting anywhere with either one. I am frustrated, and neither company seems to want to work with the other directly. I don't have the ability to work out billing complaints between two companies, and both need to fix the record problem that is obviously between them and not me in order to resolve this problem.

    When I was living in BayArea (Fremont), CA. In November 2014, I was approached my door to door salesman from Spark Energy and told that I need to enroll on Spark Energy and I am qualified to receive my PG&E Gas bill at discounted rate of 50 cents from PG&E, as Spark Energy is supplying to PG&E. I just need to continue paying my regular bill to PG&E. After confirming my account they said I was enrolled. I left the place on October 1, 2015 and now I get a call from Spark Energy saying that I need to pay termination fee of $100 else, they threatened to send to collection agencies!!! I was shocked and asked where is this $100 bill coming from? And they said that since their contract with PG&E is discontinued from Aug 2015 I need to pay this $100 penalty. I was shocked!!! I clearly explained that I have never signed any contract with PG&E and I have always paid my bill on time.

    After requesting to talk to a Manager/Supervisor as the Customer Representative who called me was not able to talk / listen / communicate properly, she just transferred me to some waiting tone and nobody was there to attend the call for 45 mins during the work hours!!! I am extremely upset with this Spark Energy door to door sales people scamming me as I was not aware of these contracts or penalties and I'm not aware why PG&E terminated the contract in Aug 2015 with Spark Energy and why would I be responsible for it??? It is just funny some person will call you and ask to pay money else my credit history will be ruined. Sounds like extortion to me!!! Not sure where I can take my case. Please Help!!!

    I was convinced to sign up for Spark Energy by a door-to-door salesman on a very cold night last winter. I felt for him, and heard out his pitch. I asked if the energy was from renewable resources and he said that it was, so I signed up. I recently received a disclosure label in the mail that explains exactly where the energy comes from, and I'm very disappointed to see that it comes mostly from nuclear, natural gas, and coal. Only 2% is from wind, and 1% is from solar. I believe I was misled, and hope to cancel or change my plan without penalty as soon as possible.

I wasn't aware there were different types of energy through them, but I chose the green energy because I prefer to have something that's better for the environment. I've used another natural gas provider in the past and comparing the two, Spark is cheaper. I'd recommend them.

    A young lady by the name of Maria ** came to my house on Aug 27, 2015 and asked to see my electricity bill. I showed her my bill and she proceeded to fill out a form, I asked her what was she doing and she said she had to keep track of all the people she talked with. I saw the form and it said NATURAL GAS AND ELECTRICITY ENROLLMENT FORM. I told her that I was not enrolling in Spark Energy because my electricity was cheaper than theirs. She proceeded to tell me that I was not being enrolled. I DID NOT SIGN THE FORM and as soon as she left I called the company and told them that I wanted to make sure that I was not enrolled. The person I spoke to gave me a cancellation confirmation number. I received a letter in September thanking me for joining Spark Energy!!!

    How is it that I was enrolled in this program when I never signed any document? Did this person forge my name on the form that she filled out? I have a copy of the form which shows that I never signed it. I am calling them tomorrow because they are currently closed to file a complaint. These people are very sneaky!!! Be careful!!!

    This has been one of the most unethical experiences while dealing with an electricity supplier. I signed up a sixth-month plan where I was told by the sales representative that I would be charged 9.9 c for the period. Two months later I was being charged 13.3 c. I didn't notice this for 4 months and when I call I am being told that it was a flexible rate and not a fixed rate. This was NEVER COMMUNICATED to me before signing up and now when I call I am not being comped for this nor will they drop till the next billing cycle. A very dissatisfied customer.

    I signed up for this thinking they were going to save me money. Which by the way has not happened. Now I'm receiving nasty phone calls from their customer service claiming I have not paid them. I am on a payment plan with PG&E so my bill is paid every month right out of my check. Now Spark Energy is claiming I was late on my bill with PG&E so they didn't get paid and claiming I owe them $235. I think this is how they make their money - by bullying people. I tried talking to the lady about this and she just told me, "Ok, I will note that in your account," and then hung up on me. Now there is a different lady harassing me. Do not ever sign up with Spark Energy. It's not worth the hassle.

Their rate for gas was only slightly lower than SDG&E, but with their monthly fee combined with the line charge from your utility provider they actually cost WAY more (not to mention a $100 termination fee if you change your mind).     Their business practices, their sales pitches and their conflict resolution is the poorest I have ever seen. The door-to-door salesmen lied and conned us into switching to their gas service plan. What they don't tell you is that your gas bill is going to double or triple for absolutely no reason. In a gas market like Chicago, you do not need a 3rd party company to provide you with turnkey gas service when People's Gas serves that purpose. I am surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit against Spark Energy already. Please please please STAY AWAY from this company!

Aside from the lower price, I see no other difference between Spark and the state-regulated provider I was with before. This could be because Spark only does supply, not distribution since the latter is mandated by the state.

    The Spark Energy LP people came to our house letting us know their services were much lower than our normal gas service provider People's Gas. After some discussion and them letting me know my landlord switch over, I decided to use their services. All was well until a few months ago when I received a bill from them for almost $800. When I called to resolve the issue they admitted it was their fault and they'd give me a discount. I was already on a payment plan with People's Gas so there's absolutely no logical way I could afford this additional amount. Who charges that much for such a short span of time? There are no savings here. Long story short they cut my gas supply today leaving me without a way to cook food, take a warm shower or heat my home (despite the hot weather). This is unacceptable. They lied, their service charges are in fact NOT lower than my regular provider and they have left me without services at all.

    I signed up for Spark after one of their door to door salespeople told me that I could save money by using their service. Sounded promising, but when I got my bills, I didn't really notice much in the way of savings, but that's not really the issue. It has been almost a year since I've lived at the address where I had originally signed up for service, and they continue to bill my account at that address. I have received phone calls from their collection department every day this week, and have spoken to someone every time trying to get this resolved. And every time they say that "they'll look into it, and I will be hearing back from someone", this of course has not happened, and doubt that it will because nobody I speak to is competent enough to speak proper English or has any clue who can help me solve this problem.

    Yesterday got call about bill not paid. This post is a follow up for previous post and nice lady from president office of Spark Energy said that the early termination fee was being removed and to disregard anything forward on subject.. Still not happy with their sales people's deception of cost.

    They said monthly bill would be less because only .75 cents per therm and PG&E was $1.18/therm, no mention of delivery charge which found out was about half the per therm cost. When Spark added their fee it was about 30% more. Then with a month left called them and said not to continue after 1 yr, done. They said could take 2 billing cycles, told them they start quick so end on contract end date.

    Well they canceled at on 3/10/2015 very quickly as I found out when received a bill for $102.50. No reason on bill. Called and they said early stop. Told them they were to stop on expiration of contract and that not paying bill and due date was 3/30/2015. Heard nothing till today 7/14/15, a guy that was very hard to understand that I had outstanding balance and told him as before not paying because they said could take 2 cycles to stop so they stop early to get the cancellation fee. And I'm not playing that game. Their sales people flat out lie about savings.

    I canceled my contract with Spark Energy in Jan 2015, because they failed to send me a contract outlining the details of their service and their door to door salesmen basically lied about how their services worked. I received a bill in Jan 2015 for service provided in Nov 2014. This prompted me to contact Spark because I never received the contract as they promised, so therefore I truly didn't think any more of it until I received a bill. I called and spoke with Daphine, whom I voiced my concerns and canceled the contract. Daphine issued me a confirmation and I thought that was that. Since, I been harassed by phone calls and letters and when they can't reach me they have been calling my mother's cell harassing her. They continue to bill me for a service that I clearly canceled and no longer want.

    I recently contacted SDG&E on 6/22/2015, as to why my bill was split in two, and to my dismay, their records show that Spark Energy still has me under their contract. How is this possible if I canceled in Jan 2015? Plus I have submitted several letters stating the reasons for my dissatisfaction and cancellation and yet I am still under their contract. I feel like I am being held captive against my will. At this point I want to know what my options are. I've thought about starting a class action suit against Spark Energy because I feel that there are others that are being held captive in a canceled contract and being given the runaround by this company.

    Don't trust unprofessional door to door sale agent and the Spark Energy, LP ** agreement. I was misled by the sale agent that my gas bill will be lower and that the procurement charge on my gas bill will be drop. I called the SPARK ENERGY LP to cancel this three party agreement but they will charge me a $100 for termination fee. Start service with 4/15/15 and today date is 6/26/15. Just receive their first bill with SPARK ENERGY and if cancel will be charge $100. During the first phone call verification with the three party departments they use a cheap mobile service with lots of static and cut off. The door to door agent mislead information and said the verification representative will said the same thing and just keep said yes to start the service.

    Be aware of SPARK ENERGY and STAY AWAY. They are not trying to help get you a lower rate they claim to be but charging you more and agent making commission and SPARK ENERGY making profit. Supervisor **, Badge # ** in Customer Service Department, Houston TX States computer auto generate bill and there's nothing he can do to waive the fee pointing out I was lying with the static and cut off call during the verification process since the recording can hear us both.

    If recording can hear both parties than there's no static or cut off to any end of the phone line. Lied to me that there's no superior authority to talk to me regarding my matter. And he's the only supervisor in the department. I insist to talk to someone else beside him, he is bias. He told me to call back the same number I called to get someone else but I still insist to talk to someone higher because he is not trying to solve the matter but pointing finger at me. Finally transfer me to another supervisor **.

    Supervisor **, Badge # ** in Customer Service Department, Houston TX Restate the same fact that I agree with the verification agreement and there's nothing can be done with the termination fee. He helps cancel my service and $100 fee onto my account. I ask to get an investigation onto the sale agent for misinformation and hold for accountability. He processes the investigation claim on the sale associate but I will not get any information regarding the investigation and I will still accountable for $100 fee. I ask for higher authority associate regarding the matter, put me on hold and transfer me over then come back and said he can waive the fee. Should have done that sooner. Problem solve but wouldn't recommended to anyone else
