Our provider was PECO before Spark Energy. We changed and saved a penny or so per KW. Our electric bill is high, but we also have a home built in 1880. Yesterday we decided to have Peco do an energy audit. They showed us that our current rate with Spark is 19 cents/kw—almost 3 TIMES greater than PECO’s 7.2 cents. Due to “electronic billing” and never expecting to be screwed by Spark Energy I missed it. I’m sure they had the contractual right to triple my rate; however they are morally bereft. Relying on billing trickery is a bad business practice.
Thank you for your review Mr. Thornton. We'd like to assure you that we do send notices to our customers to advise them when it's time to renew and also the variable rate they can expect if the contract is not renewed. If you'd like to discuss further, please email us at officeofthepresident@sparkenergy.com.

I love Spark Energy and I have no problems with them. I initially learned about them through a friend and after hearing how great her experience was and how cheap the rates were, I went with Spark. I chose the Green product and so far, Spark has been great. Most providers are more expensive and I've had people try to switch me but I never switched because I'm in a four-bedroom house and my bill would be 110 which is a very low price every month. And if I have an outage and a reason why it was out, they talk to me about it. But I tried to pay my bill online but their website wouldn't allow me to, so I did it over the phone instead. Other than that, I always recommend Spark to people.
It is always a pleasure to read about a positive customer experience. Your feedback is definitely appreciated and we are very thankful for your business. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with suggestions, concerns or questions.

The Power to Choose website in Texas gives you the best rates of all the different electricity companies, and Spark Energy had one of the best rates. I’ve been using them for a while now and the experience has been good and easy. They do exactly what they say they’re gonna do, and they provide good electricity and service. They also started doing what I was hoping they would do. It was to give us a little bit more heads-up on when the contracts were up, and then calling and warning us that the rates would go up. The reps I've dealt with have also been professional, easy to talk to and fairly helpful when necessary.

With Spark our electric bill was $120-185 a month. Cancelled Spark and our electric went to $68-90 a month. I believe it's time for the government to investigate these types of companies' practices. I will be contacting my local representative. I'm sure any positive reviews on here are fake which can be verified by checking actual reviews on Yelp.
Hello Mr. Tate. We are sorry to hear that you cancelled and would've hoped that you allowed us to offer you different rates before deciding to cancel. We'd like to confirm that the Consumer Affairs does request certain information to ensure that the reviews are all from verified customers.

I have Spark Energy for a number of years. I looked them up and went with them initially because of their prices. I chose the Green product as I do a lot of green myself and my family. Their service is comparable to what I had before and I haven't had any significant problems with Spark. I had a few billing issues but they were clarified. However, I had a few concerns and when I clarified with their customer service reps, it took a while longer than I liked to. Still, if I was asked about them, I'd tell others that Spark seems to be a good company. They provide reasonable electricity cost and have different products.
Thank you for your feedback and for your years of business. We are happy to hear that you chose one of our Green products and we appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you.

I was a Verde Energy customer and then Spark bought them. I just grandfathered in and I'm on the Green 24. There was more use of solar power in their product line so I was interested. Also, price hasn’t changed too much in comparison to Verde Energy so it’s been good. I’m a heavy user, up at 3,000 kilowatt hours, so $300 a month is typical with all the air conditioners.
I would love to see a streamlined, smoother bill pay system though. Spark is not registered with Chase Bank as a regular payee so when I do my payment, they are getting a live check through the mail. But we’ve had situations where they had not received the check for three weeks and I got a disconnect notice. I know it’s the postal system though. I’ve even had to re-issue a check. So getting registered with Chase as a payee would be really nice. Then once a customer is registered with Chase, payment is within a day. So it’s popular for businesses to ask for your bank information then they would automatically draft your account. I don’t want automatic drafting though. I had two companies hurt me that way so I always push payment instead. I’m old school in that.
With Spark Energy, you can automatically withdraw and pay from the website. But most middle-aged consumers who don’t pay their bills off of an app on their phone prefer to log-in to their bank’s website, click the bills they wanna pay, set the amount and send when they know that they have the funds on the account to do so. That way, they do not have to worry about over-billing, being overdrafted or getting caught off-guard by a surprise bill. That aside, I would recommend Spark Energy.
Thank you for your feedback, Mr. Suess. We appreciate your insight and we are looking into these payment features to help create an effortless customer experience. Spark Energy values your business and we look forward to a great relationship.

I liked the low rates of Spark Energy. I got a fixed-rate product from them since price stability is important for me. They're comparable with the other electricity and natural gas providers that I've used in the past. With autopay, there's the ease of payment and getting invoices or notices that one energy provider I used before didn't have. The interactions that I've had with the representatives of Spark have all been positive. I've been happy with the service and the rates that I've had so far.
Thank you for your positive review and for choosing to join the Spark Energy family. We are delighted to hear that you are enjoying our rates and great customer service. Your feedback is definitely appreciated.

I bought a house in 2007 and this was probably about four years after the regulation in Texas. I needed to get some electricity. At that time, Spark Energy was the easiest and the cheapest. I like the ease of signing up with them because I was buying my first house. I was a commissioned officer in the army in my early 20's and I didn't have to put down a deposit. They could also get the energy turned on when I wanted it. Right now, I'm paying four cents per kilowatt hour and at that time it was about 15 and I was pretty excited.
A couple of years ago I had to contact customer service. I was on a three-year contract and it expired. I tried to renew it online and the website was junky so I was not able to, and then I just forgot about it. Then I went off of the regular preset rate and went to whatever the floating rate was. My bill went up to 40% in one month because of that. I was pretty irritated because Spark wouldn’t do anything for me. I ended up getting a $50 service credit, but at that time I had paid around $800 more than I otherwise would have.
Also one time, they turned my electricity off. When I first signed up for it, my turn on date overlapped with the previous owner’s shut off date by three days. So I told them to start the service on a Friday. The previous owner told them to stop service on the following Monday, which is what they did. I was upset about that because it didn’t seem reasonable to me that I would have the electricity turned on on a Friday, and then turned right back off on Monday. But it seemed totally reasonable to Spark. Because the electricity market here is commoditized, there are so few opportunities for them to mess it up and the few opportunities they had, they seem to have gleefully taken. They have bad customer service, at least the one time I had to reach out, and also a crummy website.
Although the customer service interactions you mentioned happened some time ago, we do apologize and hope that your recent or future ones will be more pleasant. Should you have concerns or suggestions, please don't hesitate to email or call us. Thank you for taking the time to leave us honest feedback.

When my friends start talking about their bills, I tell them to contact Spark and see what they can do for them ‘cause they have been great for me. I went online several years ago to try and compare the electrical company that I had then. I was looking for a different rate. At that time, Spark had the lowest rate. They had a billing problem at the beginning though. They lost things and didn’t send bills. I had gathered that they were new and that they had a new billing system. But they got that worked out. The agents that I talked to are knowledgeable. In addition, you talk to the same ones over and over since they have a limited staff. They remember me, and I remember them. In closing, Spark is great. I have been so happy and satisfied with my electric bills, the lowest I’ve had my entire life. They have never been over $150 and those were in the middle of a hot summer.

Still, I renewed my contract with them. I did it online and it was easy to navigate their website. Also, I spoke to their customer service and they were helpful.
Thank you for your honest feedback. I've been using Spark Energy for four years now. There were door to door sales people walking around the neighborhood then. It was somebody else, not Spark Energy and Spark bought them. It was supposed to be GreenEnergy and it sold me a whole bunch of stuff that it was cheaper than what I had. And it turned out that it really wasn't. But I can't get out of it because I had a two-year contract. Nonetheless, the contract I had with them expired. I just left it alone. As a matter of fact, it has now turned into a rent house and I wouldn't have to pay it, but now I have to pay it again. The bill is not that big right now, for the house is empty.
I have a different policy on the house that I live in and it's a lot cheaper than Spark. Spark costs a bit more, double digit. For the most time, their customer service was good. There were a couple of times that it hasn't been, but part of it has been some of my tenants that I've had in the house. They wouldn't pay the bill and their reps have been very understanding that I've had to pick up the bill from my rent people. They've stuck me with a good bill. I've paid it. It's just that they've been behind on it. I had to come back in and catch it all up. When my renter left out of the trailer, they left about a month and a half behind that has cost me about $7,700 out of my pocket.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and we are sorry to hear of your experiences with your tenants. If you'd like to discuss different plan options, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I received a letter from Verde stating that they were doing something different and they changed me over to Spark Energy. I wish I got a lower cost with them. I have gone from three bedrooms, two full baths, with five people living in it, and my light bill was no more than $170. Now there’s just two people in our house and it’s summertime, but my bill has never been over $200. But with Spark Energy, even on the contract, it’s always been over $200. It was $216 this month and $263 last month. I spoke with someone from Spark and they told me I was still on contract. I would call them again to know the expiration of my contract so that I could try to get on another plan or to see if they have any specials to offer.

It saves me money, thus giving me more room to pay for other things like getting the house repaired as well as car repairs. Spark's auto-pay and the whole online experience are easy. And every time I call their customer service, they are always professional and helpful. So, I always recommend them.

I received a letter from Spark Energy saying my contract was about to expire. I called Spark and was told they no longer had my account. That it had been transferred to Verde Energy. I called Verde and was told they would not have my account until Sept. About a month later I got another letter from Spark saying my contract with Spark was about to expire on Aug. 2. I called Spark and was told that I did not have to do anything. That my rate would stay the same and my account would be transferred to Verde at my current rate. I called Verde in Sept. and was told that the account had been transferred as of Sept. 1 and my rate was the same as it had been with Spark. I got my bill for Aug. and my rate from Spark had doubled.
I called and they said my contract had ended on Aug. 2 and I had not renewed. I told them I had been told TWICE that I did not have to do anything because I was now a customer of Verde. Spark pulled a real fast one on me costing me more than $400. Spark refused to do anything saying that I had a contract with them and when I did not renew by the end date (even though I was being transferred to Verde in less than a month) and I had been told I did not have to do anything with Spark. This company gives false information to up rate and then blames you. I intend to take this matter up with the PA Public Utility Commission. Spark should not be allowed to do business in PA. I have read the posts on this site and see that they have done this to many other customers.

I started doing business with Spark Energy after they took over another company. However, I didn’t pick my plan. They said they mailed me one, which I never got. I had to recede the water at my house due to Hurricane Harvey. I lived in five places in nine months. When you live in five places over nine months, things get lost. I never signed up for a plan, and they just put me in one which turns out to be very high. My son has Spark Energy also and he’s paying about one-third of what I’m paying. When I called to complain about the high prices, that was when they said they sent me out a new renewal. I also had to go to three different people and climb the ladder through the whole process. They gave me an $85 courtesy discount on a one-month bill because they were saying I was on a month-to-month.
I will not use them again. I’ve signed up for a two-year contract with $100 buyout clause during that two years. And since we’re at the end of a really hot season, I’m gonna leave it. But when we get closer to spring, I’m going to be changing. Spark Energy should be a little bit more understanding of people when they go through something like Hurricane Harvey. They should have mailed me plans that I could look at. They never did that. The plan that they mailed me is the one that they made me sign up to. Since I had it on autopay they were collecting their money. The customer service member said they sent mail, but I had never received it to renew my contracted rate. Since I didn't renew my contract with them, they had to charge me the higher rate. I asked their rep in July if I renewed my contract with them would they credit me the outrageous charges they charged for my last two bills & she said no.
Melissa proceeded to advise me she could cancel my account if I'm not happy. I asked for a supervisor whom I spoke to Sade who agreed to credit me the higher charges for my next and final bill, but I would receive no further credits. I am actively looking for a new energy provider. Spark Energy only value the quick money they make on the variable rate change rather than the long-term relationship with the customer. And if you read the reviews, I clearly wasn't the first and most likely won't be the last. I would highly recommend choosing a different energy companies.

In other words... my bill came for double of I was paying. When I called customer service (by the way terrible customer service) they just said... "sorry we send you a letter and there is nothing we can do. If you want... go to the post office and find out what happened with the letter..." STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

My elderly mother on a fixed income signed up with Spark Energy, thinking she could save some money. The charges were attached to her PG&E bill. She didn't save any money, because PG&E attached extra fees for delivering the gas. We cancelled her service, and thought we were done. A few months later we got a notice saying we still owed $100. It was a notice, not a bill. We never got a bill; it was never explained what this $100 was for, and it had not been included on the last PG&E bill with Spark Energy charges. Now, they have turned it over to a collections agency (GC Services LP) and we are getting letters from them. Spark Energy is either ripping people off, or is terrible at bookkeeping. Either way, it has caused my elderly mother a tremendous amount of anxiety, which is not good for her health. Avoid them or it will cost you!

Your payment balloons, and take months to get off, you end up paying through PG&E, but then finally after thinking I was done after paying 4xs what I should have, I get a letter in the mail saying this is the final notice and my $14 balance is going to collections. I never received any previous bills or statements. It was supposed to be done through my other bill, this is a scam and I hope there's more class action lawsuits against this company cause I'm in.

We have been calling Spark Energy for the past 3 months trying to get them to cancel their service after learning that not only do they charge but our own electric company is also charging us for the same service. They seem to have no records of us calling and they tell us that it has been "taken care of" but then we're charged again the following month. The person on the line claimed that the number generated is not attached to our Electric companies account. These numbers are just randomly generated. We've had them for just over a year and they keep coming to our door to resign us but I refuse to have anything to do with this company. Why am I paying two companies for gas and why is it higher than my electric and gas company? If I see their bill again next month I am refusing to pay... Do not sign up with this company!!!

Sounded like a good deal at first... but they fail to tell you the rates increase after a year if you don't re-sign with them. My gas rates went from about 100/month to over 300 a month! When I called they said they sent letters telling me I have to resign the 1 year contract (which I never received) and when I tried telling them I wanted to switch back to Peoples Gas, they made me wait an additional 3 months to transfer it over. My bills were auto payments and I was assuming the rate hike was due to the cold winters we had... but NO! It was the "surcharge" which was more than the dang bill! It taught me to look at all of my bills closer but also to never trust a third party like this one. Pure garbage!

My father an older single man recently transferred his gas bill into his name as this is a new process for him. He is also on medication for epilepsy and mentally struggles with comprehending new processes. His home was approached by several "suppliers" as he disregarded all due to his wishes to only go through Peoples Gas. We never heard of Spark until we were advised by Peoples Gas they were on my dad's account as the supplier as their charges were more than his actual gas usage. When I contacted Spark they advised they would conduct an investigation into how my dad was signed up as he did not remember speaking to Spark only Peoples Gas. I was then advised there was a recording of my dad authorizing enrollment Spark.
The recording consist of a woman asking my dad all yes or no questions about him being the account holder for the gas utility. At one point he attempted to cut in to ask a question as he was cut off by another question. Clearly by his hesitation he did not understand the call or questions but, believing he was speaking with Peoples Gas he proceeded. They even asked for email information as he is not familiar with email either yet, they still proceeded as he was enrolling. My issue is there has to be some form of protection for disabled individuals attempting to gain independence without them being taken advantage of.
I have canceled the unwanted Spark account. However, my father is now stressed about how to pay a $800 gas bill when more than half the charges are from Spark and he is on a fixed income. The representatives appear to be more concerned gaining accounts than taking advantage of vulnerable disabled individuals. Hopefully Spark will change something in their policies to be more sensitive to such groups. I will advise everyone I know beware of Spark Energy!!
We apologize for your father's experience. We have received your email and will complete a full investigation. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to providing your father a resolution.

Shockingly unethical business practices! I was a Spark customer for both electric and gas, paid every bill in full and on time, ended my contract and went with another provider. Three months later, I received a "Final Notice" demanding payment of an amount totally unexplained and not related to any bill or invoice I ever received. It was the first I heard of any issue, but the notice included threats of collections and reporting to the credit bureaus to hurt my credit rating. I spoke to 4 different reps at Spark, none offering any process for dispute, just telling me I had to pay this unexplained amount. I eventually found out that Spark couldn't account for payment from People's Gas for a bill from 2 1/2 years ago.
So the bottom line - I paid all my bills. This is an issue between the 2 companies, but Spark goes after me, expecting payment without substantiating anything, puts the burden of proof on me, and immediately resorts to threats without even referring to the specific issue or providing any invoice! This is still unresolved. I would advise anyone to stay far away from this company! I've seen my very same issue repeated with other customers on some other review sites, so I'm suspecting there may be a pattern here. And Spark, before you recommend I email the Office of the President, I've already tried that. I'm waiting for a response.

So I made the HUGE mistake of allowing the door to door salesman talk me into using this company to help reduce my bill. He showed me how this would happen on his computer so it looked legitimate. My utility bills have been 30-50% higher all winter. I’ve never had bills this high. When I complained, they offered me a much lower rate. I think they should have offered that to begin with and am disgusted with that business practice. Canceling is a big pain in the butt too. Have to call them 1 day before my contract expires, then call PG&E to restart their gas service. If meter read date is before the cancellation date, then I’m stuck with their variable rates (god only knows how high those could be). Moral of this story... leave this company alone. Not worth the hassle.

Just had the displeasure of dealing with this company today. Our gas bill should have only been in the range of $40 to $50 according to Nicor but because of these ** our bill was $267. It has never been that high before. I called them and told them that we never signed up but they swear that we did but the gas is in my girlfriend's name so I had her call and then they changed the story and claimed that I signed up for the program even though I am not approved on the Nicor account and not eligible to make changes. There are security measures and laws in place to protect consumers that are meant to prevent this very kind of thing from happening. So even if I had done that, if this company willingly let me do so they were knowingly breaking the law.
They claim to have my signature and a recording of me signing up for the program but if they have either of these things they are fraudulent because I never did any such thing so either they were duped by someone pretending to be me or they are straight up lying. I can tell you this right now though, there is no way in hell we are paying them a single cent more. We thought our gas bill was High because it was cold this month but nope. Turns out our gas bill was only $50 which is all we are willing to pay.
We already paid more than we should have you not knowing and if they try to charge us again next month since it won't be canceled until after though next meter reading then they have another thing coming. Because when we look at the bill we will see which part comes from Nicor and which part comes from Spark Energy and we will pay the part that comes from Nicor but completely ignore Spark Energy because we did not authorize this. So we do not owe them anything.
Our landlord lives right next door to us and said if they try to turn our gas off they will just switch it to their name and get it turned right back on for us and then they will go after them in court. They own the property that we live on and installed a new energy efficient furnace in our basement so we don't need a stupid company like this anyways to save us money because we already save money with the new furnace. Turns out we've been with these guys for over a year and didn't even know it and if we didn't authorize this that means they have been stealing from us for a year. And they are not getting another red Cent if anything they should be refunding us.
We are very concerned with the details of your review and would like to thoroughly investigate. Can you please email our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com? Thank you and we look forward to assisting.

I was a Customer with the Spark Energy for almost 2 years. Always on time with my payments, never owe them a penny. The problems began when I signed up for the second year. The new price was lower but they continued overcharging me for another half of the year. Not a huge difference in a price, just annoying. Had to call them several times, speak with the supervisor... Until they fixed the issue.
But that was NOTHING compare to what was coming: I moved out of my rental (the owner sold the condo) into the area where Spark does not provide services. I called them to move service, and was told that they do not provide the service in my new ZIP code, therefore, the "Early termination fee of $100" won't be applied. I paid my final bill and forgot about it... for a month. A month later they sent me a bill in the amount of $100 stating that I owe them an "Early Termination fee". I called again. Spoke with the Customer Service, gave her a reference # of my previous conversation and was reassured that THIS time everything is done, I don't owe them anything...
A month later I got another bill for a $100. I called AGAIN. Spoke with the Customer Service, gave her a reference number and was reassured that THIS TIME everything is done properly, I don't owe them anything. To make long story short I called them 5 times in the past 8 month, spoke with 5 different representatives trying to resolve the SAME issue. Each of them reassured me that the issue was fixed and I don't owe them anything. Anyway last month our bill went up considerably but it was winter and gas use would be expected to be higher. This month it was nearly doubled. $1.36 per therm compared to $.41 with the Utility should be criminal. I called to try to get some relief on my past bills and possibly sign up for their program. They offered a $25 gift card and $150 Discount Dining card. I assumed this would be like a credit card for diners. So I signed up. I figured I could get a bit of something back. After I got off the phone I did a bit of research and it is a coupon book. I called back to cancel my plan. Now I have to wait for 1-2 billing cycles while getting overcharged. I have a similar issue with my electric bill. My advice? Watch your bills.

Spark Energy has very deceptive and manipulative business practice which takes advantage of people who have busy lives and don't pay very close attention to billings. Spark Energy does not send out any notifications when a contract is ending and doubles the pricing of the contract price without informing about new pricing etc. Busy people who are not aware of new pricing pay at the double rate. This is very deceptive and unprofessional. People who read this and are with Spark Energy should review their rates and take corrective measures. Others who are not with Spark Energy, stay away. There are other better options available in the marketplace.
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to confirm that Spark Energy does actually provide written notice prior to the contract expiring. Please email our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com with your account details so they can investigate and provide assistance.

I also just got the biggest gas bill I ever had. I also called Nicor to see if there was a mistake. They said I needed to talk to Spark Energy. When I called Spark they said my contract had expired so my rate was increased -- by 4x what Nicor charges! They "said" they sent me a contract renewal in the regular US mail but I never received any such mail. They claimed to have called my home. No, they did not! And even though they have my email address, they chose not to send an email. I guess it's more convenient to claim they made contact in a way you cannot trace so they can more easily scam you into higher prices. I agree with the other reviewers that they operate in a shady way. I also canceled my account with them and I would recommend that everyone else does too because it's only a matter of time before you end up in the same situation. I have been a long time customer of Spark Energy and am really angry about the way I've been treated!

I told the gentleman that I wasn’t interested in it anymore and he started flipping out. He kept calling me back, so I relented and went with it and I got all the information. However, they called me for a couple of times a week because they wanted to offer something or sign me up and I kept saying that I already signed up. One hand didn’t know what the other was doing. It was weird and I had to put my foot down and I haven’t heard from them in a while. I went with the fixed rate energy and I can bail out if I want to. I don’t use a lot of electricity, so it’s fine. But, I’m not sure that understand the whole thing because it was a little overwhelming for me. I signed up for a plan they call the "Spark Flex" plan to provide natural gas supply to my home. The specific ad said the plan is a month to month plan (meaning no long term commitment) with a price of $.29 per therm. It does not say anywhere except in very fine print that the price is an introductory price for 2 months. As bad as that is, like the other negative reviews here, once the "introductory period" was done, the price per therm went to a level that is almost triple or quadruple the spot rate for my local utility (BGE).
I find the advertising to be highly deceptive, and beyond that, I find their strategy of charging outrageously high rates to be verging on abusive. Luckily, I have figured this out within 9 months, and figure I have been ripped off for about $300-$400. I plan to contact the office of the president, but have little hope of any resolution. At that point, I plan to reach out to the regulatory authority, and while I will most likely not get my money back, I can hope to at least make the company be truthful in its marketing.
Thank you for your review, Mr. Friedman. We apologize that your experience was not a positive one. Our Office of the President has thoroughly reviewed and addressed your concerns. We wish you well in the energy market.

HORRIBLE customer service! Even though I was getting $60 credit by using more than 1000 kw my bill still came out higher than any other provider I have ever had... Erroneous charges that you have never seen before that they try to pin on the distributor by saying they are "breaking down all their charges so you will know what you are paying for". Bologna! Distributor charges are the same, no matter what electric provider you use and their normal amount is also being billed! I also got 3 x friends to sign up and was promised friend referral bonuses they never lived up to! My friends were also supposed to get a bonus for signing up under me and they never got theirs either! I would not recommend this company to anyone; I have NEVER had such an experience with an electric provider before! I have filed two complaints with the Public Utility Commission regarding them and have NEVER filed a complaint in the past.

Spark Energy had a low introductory rate for a while and that was favorable. It had gone up but it was still a little lower than what my utility company charges so it was okay. If the rates are high and someone’s offering a lower deal for a certain period, then I would probably go with the lower price at least during the summer months when we use a lot of electricity. Spark Energy is a good service and I’d recommend them.
Thank you for your honest review. We appreciate your feedback and would also like to encourage you to contact our customer service department so we ensure you are aware of all your rate options.

Spark Energy's rates and talking with some other people who had them, and thinking that they were pretty good made me go with them. However, they were not upfront with what they said they were going to do. I was overcharged. They raised it up from 7 cents to almost 12 cents a kilowatt hour. They did not refund the money, and they did not want to come down to the rates that I had prior to them overcharging me. Nobody could make a decision and I got a runaround. I am very dissatisfied. I would not recommend them to anyone because they’re very truthful and that’s not the way to do business. I have cancelled my service and I’m waiting for a refund from them. If they don’t respond within another month, the state will go after them.

I called and complained and they said that they could charge me whatever they wanted to when I am on a month-to-month variable rate. Don't use this Company. It would have been cheaper to pay the $100 penalty to cancel the contract early.

This company straight out takes your money. I do not know how they are able to get away with it. I've already paid them $500 in 8 months, what they do is they start charging you their rate for gas usage on top of PG&E's charge. In my case, I got the incredible rate of .75 per therm, so in January this year, I paid them $70.20 for 87 Therms plus their Customer Charge of $5.04. As I mentioned, I also had to pay $76.30 to PG&E for "Gas Delivery Charges" (which they do not disclose) at 1.87/Therm. So in total I paid $151.54!!! The previous year, without "The Spark Energy Con", my gas bill was only $84.59. This piece of crap company came knocking on my door with the promise to reduce my overall Gas Bill, so far that mistake has costed me almost $500!!!

I switched over to Spark Energy for someone in our chamber's house because it is for residential. That guy who does things for me gave me the information, I went online, did an account, and set it up. I found their customer service to be very good. I had to call back since it wasn't switched but I kept all my notes so I knew who I talked to, when I talked to them and what I was supposed to get. The lady that I talked to said, "I believe you. You have all the information." The lady was apologetic that it happened and I was fine. She was very courteous even though the first one didn't go through. They are going to go back and credit me.
I did the same thing for our office but for some reason, it went through because they sent a notice. That means Spark sent a notice out saying, "Important. Your rate expires and it could go to $12.99." I called since we didn't want that to happen. It's funny because I didn't get a confirmation on my personal one but I had it written down that I had the $7.99 for six months, the $50. I spoke with Leslie and I have a confirmation number.
Spark Energy sends me something and their rates are reasonable. Also, they followed up with another letter on July 27th and they confirmed what I have. They do a good job with informing me when it's going to expire and then confirming when I go ahead and change products and they confirmed it. I'm glad that Spark notifies us because unless I put it in somewhere, I'm going to forget or I can look at the bill. The electric bills are starting to say what I have. I hope their rates are going to stay the same because I don't like to switch but I don't want to pay $12 if I can pay $7.9. Overall, I’m very satisfied.
Thank you for providing us a positive feedback despite the failed renewal on your account. Upon reviewing the residential account, I was able to confirm that we were able to correct your renewal rate just in time so that you weren't billed at the $0.1299 rate. I went online to the Connecticut website and Spark Energy was the cheapest. I’m on a six-month fixed price and it was less than what I was paying at that time. I have used 10 different providers in the last five years because I have to. There's no choice because they will go for six cents to 13 cents and every provider does the same thing. So, we're forced to negotiate a new one. Every six months I renew with the lowest provider. Usually, whoever I was with, it’s tremendously more expensive the second six months so, it's very rare that I go to the same company twice. The team at Spark Energy called me to try to renegotiate but their cost was still too high.
The providers are all the same and there's no way they could provide something different. They produce power to a network but they're not producing electricity that goes directly to me. So, realistically, they're just a name on a piece of paper. There's no possible connection that would have any impact on the customer. Similar to all the other providers that I had used in the past, the experience is all good.

What they did not tell me was that PG&E would still charge me the delivery fees and even with the "Lower Rate" my bill would be more. When I called to cancel based on the higher bill, they first offered an even lower rate, but even with that my bill would go up. In addition to the higher bill, they charged me an early cancellation fee of $100. I used the services for 2 months and am out over $200. SCAM.

I have been using Spark Energy for about a year and a half now, and I had really liked my experience and their service so far. I understand that summer is horrible for the light bill and they have to charge delivery charges, so I was happy with them. But this last bill I received is just ridiculous and horrible. It is around 4 times what I paid just 3 months ago and twice what I paid last month. I called them to see if they could send someone to check on my meter, since I was in disbelief about having such a high bill, but what the rep told me was just the most ridiculous thing I have heard from them. He said that it was so high because I was basically not on a fixed rate for about 15 days. I had just signed up with them for another year and now this happens, I am ready to cancel but of course they will charge me even more.
We are sorry to hear that you are considering cancelling your services with Spark Energy. When a fixed rate contract expires and a renewal is not completed, Spark Energy has to purchase the energy on the spot which is typically at a higher rate due to various factors. Please email our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com so that we may discuss your account.

I shop for my electricity regularly as soon as my fixed rate period ends with electricity providers like Spark Energy. What I found out was I get cheaper rates if I switch. The minute I go into the end of my period, they raise my rates up and the only way to get a lower rate again is to switch. The typical rate at which the rates are going to go up to in most of these plans is above the standard rate, which I find unconscionable. I use Energize Connecticut, which is the official state website and at the time, Spark Energy came in having the best price so I signed up with them. They're fine and I received emails from them to confirm the service. If these providers would match what's being shown as standard rates instead of insisting that my rates go up, I wouldn't have to shift.
Thank you for your feedback Ms. Navon. We definitely understand the importance of securing the lowest rate available and that sometimes the fixed rate plans can increase after the initial term. This company is nothing but deceptive and a pure scam. They have to be, or no one would ever choose them. They came to my door a few months ago offering a lower rate for gas than PG&E. They had me bring up my bill and pointed out a part of the bill that lists the number of therms used and the amount charged per therm. For my bill that month, the amount was $1.26448 for tier one and $1.84538 for tier 2. They told me that they would instead charge me $0.749 per therm. What they DON'T tell you is that the amount from PG&E is not a price for just gas like Spark's price is. The amount from PG&E includes the delivery fee. Spark's price is just for gas. If you compare the price for gas from both companies, PG&E's highest amount that month was $0.3866. That is less than HALF of what Spark is charging me.
So they flat out LIE in their sales pitch. But like I said, they have to. If they told the truth, no one would ever sign up to pay twice the price! So I have had to pay at least $10-$15 more each month that I have been stuck with Spark. I called today to cancel and am waiting for the supervisor to call me back so I can fully explain how the sales person deceived me so that they will waive the early termination fee and let me out. I just want them gone for good. This is one of the shadiest companies I have ever dealt with. They are purposefully deceptive then throw the sales people under the bus when customers complain. Then they use the excuse that they did not hire those sales people, some third party company did. Doesn't change the fact that these people are representing them and misrepresenting what they are going to provide.
If you deal with a salesperson from this company, film your encounter with them. Spark will record you agreeing to their "terms" so they can try to blame you for falling for the scam. Do it back to them if you plan on signing up despite my warning along with many others. They have had countless complaints with the BBB because of this nonsense. There really should be a class action against these people. They shouldn't be able to get away with deceiving people like this. It's shameful and disgusting.
We apologize for your experience and for any misinformation the door to door sales agent provided. We'd like the chance to resolve your concerns; can you please email our Office of the President with your account details at oopcx@sparkenergy.com?

Like many of the other complaints here I was sold on Spark based on figures from my salesperson that I would save money by getting gas from Spark not PG&E. After looking at a couple bills (during low usage times so it was hard to tell at first) I have discovered switching will actually cost me more money and not just due to the $5 service charge per month they charge regardless of use. You have to pay PG&E the cost to transport the gas. This turns out to be over 75% of the cost of the bill. Spark would have to have quite a lower rate to save money because the gas cost is such a low component of the bill. Instead turns out they are charging me almost twice as much for the gas itself.
I entered a contract at $.75 per therm and the PG&E rate is around $.39. They also charge a service charge. If you try and cancel they will charge you a $100 termination fee. When I complained and talked to a supervisor telling him I would not pay that and wanted out he said he could not waive it but offered a lower rate of $.60 per therm. Not a surprise considering how much they are charging versus the cost of the utility. I took it because I did not want to pay the $100. Now I am stuck with this ripoff for a year. If they come to your door tell them to beat it.
UPDATED ON 10/14/2017: Once again Spark Energy has managed to rip me off. First they won't let me out of an unfair contract that was negotiated using false claims by their door to door salesforce without paying a $100 cancellation fee. Second after calling and complaining and talking to a manager he offers a lower rate which is still a total ripoff but lower than the original .75 per therm. Finally they have thus far not honored the lower rate which was set in motion in August. When I called to ask why they had not lowered the rate the rep said it was a mistake and would be taken care of and I would get a credit this month. Bill just came. No change, no credit, same crap rate. How these guys are still in business is beyond me. DO NOT BUY SPARK EVER.
We are sorry to hear about your experience. I'd like to confirm that our Office of the President has received your feedback via email and a representative has reached out to you to discuss. We look forward to resolving this for you.

I got a renewal e-mail and followed the instructions. I selected the plan and submitted it. I assumed it was taken care of, until I got my next bill saying I was now on a variable rate plan. I have been with them since 2014, never missed a payment with auto-pay, and never had any problems. I called and spoke to a supervisor and was told that they could give me a $50 credit on my account. My bill was nearly 5x what I usually pay and I asked if there was anything else they could do to correct this, since I am sure I submitted my renewal. The supervisor (Theo) said that they had no record of the renewal and that was the best they could do.
I explained that for the amount they were charging, I could not stay with them out of principle due to the error in the renewal process and the fact that they were gouging me by so much. He said that's just how the variable rates work and understood my position. He then suggested I hurry up and switch before the end of the month. I spoke to co-workers and found out that one of them had the same thing happen to his mother. Working with Spark Energy made me aware of other companies including their rates and prices. It's been a very good experience and I've recommended Spark Energy to a few friends.
We appreciate hearing how our customers feel so that we can understand every customer’s needs. We can also certainly understand how important savings and low costs are and we are happy that you have found that in Spark Energy. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be your energy supplier.

I was told by the Spark agent who came to my door that I would be able to cancel with Spark Energy before 30 days and that my account would be cancelled with no additional charges or penalties. I canceled my account January 2017 exactly 1 week after signing up. I received a confirmation number for canceling my account and I believed that that was the end of that. Here it is mid June 2017 and I have been being charged by Spark Energy despite my cancelation. I called in and the Spark Energy representative that I first spoke with told me that he can see that I canceled back in January but that it was still showing pending.
After he spoke with his supervisor he advised me to wait 1 to 2 weeks and call back to check the status of my account. When I called back another Spark Energy representative said that my account is still pending and they don't know how long it will be for the account to officially be closed. I explained to her that this has been a real inconvenience not to mention since signing with Spark my energy bill has doubled despite them ensuring me that my bill would decrease. My energy bill has doubled by 50% since signing with Spark Energy. I am very upset and frustrated. What is so hard about closing an account?

Spark Energy came to my door and I had a seriously negative experience with them years before. I told them, "No thanks," and shut the door. The next thing I know I'm signed up with spark energy as my supplier without my agreement or signature. They somehow magically managed to provide a document with my signature that I never signed. Since then my electric bill has been a nightmare. For 3 months in a row (for a residence with one person) my bill was over $600 dollars a month!!! I had to put a $650 deposit down in August of 2016 and go on a payment plan for a year for the remaining $659.
It is now of 2017 and I still owe $459. Plus the contract was cancelled 5 months ago and I am still with spark energy!!! There is no way you can convince me it takes months to change the provider when they were able to add me as a customer in a week. They are a ripoff and should be put out of business for fraud. I am livid at how much money they have and are still costing me, especially since I am disabled and on a fixed income. How dare they take advantage of people the way they do. Changing rates in the midst of a contract, forging names and leaving out the fact that you will have to pay a huge delivery charge from ComEd or your local supplier!!! If I could use profanity I would have some more choice words for this shame company.
We are sorry to hear of your experience. To confirm, a signature and a verbal authorization, which is recorded through a third party service, is required before the enrollment is accepted. Once the enrollment is received, we also send a welcome letter which confirms all details of the plan and your rights to cancel. Prior to the fixed rate expiring, we also send out a notices reminding you to renew. We'd definitely like to discuss in more detail and ask that you email us at oopcx@sparkenergy.com.

Sometime last year a polite salesman asked me about my PG&E bill. I listened to his spiel and he explained that my bill would be lower based on the terms cost that Spark offered. Great! I'm all for lowering a bill since I'm in a one income home. He explained there would be a $5 monthly charge, which I didn't see as a problem since I would be saving so much money. We even joked about my area and how hot it gets here and he stated that this would save me money during peak A/C usage. WHAT A JOKE!! I never had any problems with my gas provider and had I known this contract had NOTHING to do with the lowering the electricity part of my bill, I WOULD NEVER HAVE SIGNED UP!!
Are you kidding me?? My bill is now more expensive for a service that originally cost me very little. NEVER was I told that PG&E would still be charging me a delivery fee. What is the point of Spark then?? Clearly you are lacking in the training of these sales reps or the misleading techniques are intentional. I would never recommend this company. I should've known something wasn't right with the "signing my life away" phone call I had to make with some lady on the phone. Why would I possibly need this added expense?? Terrible business ethics.
Thank you for your feedback; although, I sincerely apologize for the experience you've described. I have located your account and will be reaching out to you directly to discuss further. Thank you.

I am a full time student in a very tough professional program. I recently got behind on my electricity bill. My electricity was disconnected for a little over 1 week. I was finally able to get my money together and pay my balance. I called Spark Energy to confirm what I needed to pay in order to reconnect my services. After paying $130 I was told that my services would be restored in 1-2 hours BUT I first had to be transferred over to NEW ACCOUNTS because I was NO LONGER a Spark Energy customer.
Needless to say I was shocked, hurt, and I smelled b.s. coming. I explained to the "new accounts" department what happened. His response was "Unfortunately you may be required to pay a DEPOSIT." I was FLOORED! I went through hell just to make sure that I was caught up on my bills AND AFTER paying $130 I WAS BASICALLY TOLD THAT IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING. THEY TOOK MY MONEY BUT DID NOT RESTORE MY SERVICES!
Thankfully I had enough leftover to seek a prepaid company. Well Spark Energy if you think that you will take my money and run off you are SADLY mistaken. I am definitely disputing this transaction. I feel victimized, and I feel as if I was taken. I feel ROBBED. It was a smooth way to make me pay my past due balance and get more money out of me my paying a DEPOSIT of $150. AWFUL!
Thank you for posting your concerns. We do have the right to close an account if payment is not received after an account has been disconnected for non-pay. This is all I get on my bill. This example is from my March 2017 bill. Summary of Supplier Charges - Energy Charge I $276.95; Energy Charge V $4.95. This is the extent of the information I receive on my bill. Have tried contacting the company multiple times and nothing has changed. Why have I been charged almost a thousand dollars since January?

I contacted Spark today to cancel my service as I have been dissatisfied. I spoke to a customer service representative named Chris. I explained to him that I had spoken to my electric company, ComEd and they had a lower rate per kWh and I would like to cancel my service with Spark (who I am yet to receive proof I ever contracted with). Chris explained to me that my contract had recently expired in December and that is why I see an increased rate and a $4.95 “adjustment” fee on my current bill. He said that your company is currently running a renewal promotion that would lock me into a rate of 6.6 cents per kWh for 12 months.
I asked Chris what my rate was prior to my expiration and he told me it was .07590 per kWh, that was the rate I was previously locked in for 12 months ending December 14, 2016. I happened to have access to my July ComEd bill and noticed that the rate was NOT .07590 and included a $4.95 “adjustment fee”. I asked Chris why the rate and fee are there when a July 2016 statement would’ve been within the 12 month period that I was contracted and locked into that .07590 rate. And then he asked me to hold as he researched it further and came back stating that he misspoke and my contract actually expired December 2015 and from that time forward I was on a month-to-month plan that included the “adjustment fee” and higher rate.
I felt very much like I was being misled and stated that I did not want to consider renewing. I wanted to cancel my service immediately with you all as I believe that I have been a victim of unscrupulous business practices. He told me he canceled immediately and gave me the reference number of ** as confirmation of my cancellation.
As you can imagine, this encounter left a bad taste in my mouth and left me on alert that there may be some shady business practices and I may have been taken advantage of and been overcharged and misled. I decided to research for myself and take a hard look at my past billing statements. I was able to look at two years of history on my ComEd site, I decided to contact spark energy again to ask for some additional clarification. This time, I spoke to a customer service rep named Giselle and asked her when the exact date when my contract expired and my rate changed. She said December 14, 2016 and stated that my previous rate was again, .7590.
She informed me that my rate since then had increased but you were running a current renewal promo offering the same 6.6 cent rate locked in for 12 months that Chris initially offered me. I asked again, the date of expiration was December 2016? From December 2015 to December 2016 I would have been receiving the same rate of .7590 every month during that time? She again confirmed. I didn’t mention anything about the contradictory conversation I had had with Chris and let her know I would have to research some things and call back.
I was able to pull two years of statements from my ComEd bill and what I found has really left me disappointed and angry. From April 2015 to my current bill there have changing rates, on a whim it seems. There is no consistent 12 month period that I was charged a consistent rate and NOT charged an additional fee. I have created a document detailing my usage, the rate, the erroneous fees every month since April 2015 that I have included and can also provide copies of the bills.
Another thing that really gives me pause is that at some point the service provider name changed to Constellation Energy which I have NEVER heard of let alone entered into a contract or given permission to be my energy supplier. Was my business sold? Was this a company name change? There are many questions that need to be answered. From my perspective I feel I have been a victim of unsavory if not illegal business practices and have been defrauded out of my hard earned money by being overcharged for over two years. To think this would’ve continued it seems into infinity as there were NEVER any renewal notices or attempt to reach me.
I am prepared to report to the proper authorities my experience and these extremely unscrupulous business practices to really any and all that will listen. Unlike some of your customers that I have now read online have had terrible experiences with your company, through business dealings, I have connections to local media through consumer public relations and am really considering bringing my experience to light. I hope that you take this serious matter for what it is and come to a satisfactory resolution in a timely manner. I will await a response.
Thank you for your review, Ms. Mutimura. We apologize for any incorrect information provided to you. Our Office of the President has received your email and is in the process of reviewing to determine a resolution for your concerns.

I live in California where our natural gas is provided by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). When the Spark Energy (SE) reps made their sales pitch they compared the cost of gas from PG&E to the cost from SE. For example, prior to signing up with SE, my October gas bill from PG&E showed a Tier 1 usage cost of $1.355 per therm. SE sales reps stated that our cost for gas from SE would be at a fixed rate of $0.675 per therm. SE reps were comparing their rate of $0.675 to the PG&E combined rate of $1.355, saying that we would realize an average savings of $0.680 per therm. In essence saying our gas bill would be cut in half.
What I have since found out from PG&E and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), see **, is that the price charged by PG&E is broken down by the procurement cost of the gas and the transportation/delivery charge. As in the example above, the PG&E October Tier 1 cost of $1.355 per therm is made up of the charge for the gas, at $0.387 per therm, and the charge for delivery, at $0.968 per therm. At no time did the SE reps inform us of the PG&E price breakdown or the CPUC rate structure. So it appears that the cost of the gas itself from PG&E was actually $0.387 per therm, which is substantially lower than the SE cost of $0.675 per therm. Now my gas bill is higher because I am now paying an additional $0.288 per therm.
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize if the sales agent misled you when explaining our services and definitely want to escalate your concerns regarding the agent to our Sales department. Can you please email our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com?

About 3 years ago the salespeople from Spark Energy knocked on my door and promised a good deal with saving money on gas. I decided to give it a try. They explained to me that there is a one year contract, and there is a penalty if I decide to leave early. What they didn't explain is what is going to happen if I stay after the contract is over. I will explain it for them just in case if anyone is considering to become Spark Energy's customer.
After a year of comparatively OK prices, your rate will skyrocket. You will be paying 3 times more than you would pay to your local gas company (Spark was charging me $1.20/BTU, and People's Gas had rate of $0.39/BTU at the same time). They claim they sent you a letter, but they send it USPS first class, and that is not always delivered, especially if you move. I realized that when examining a hefty $600+ bill. The bill you receive will be from your local gas company, so you won't realize you are paying arm and leg to Spark immediately; you have to read the the bill thoroughly. And then do the math and poll the internet for competitive rates.
Then you call them, and they will be literally laughing at you saying that they sent you a letter, and that yes, the rate is for people who didn't call after the contract expired. But they have a special rate for you, month-to-month. It is still about 25% more expensive than the one from your local company, but definitely cheaper that you are currently paying.
You want to leave Spark? Sorry to hear that. It takes 45 days to transfer your account back to your local company. I don't really understand why in our electronic way is it taking that long, except for one word - greed. They want you to keep paying their price for as long as they possibly can keep you. What? Are you going to sue them? You will spend more on attorney than you lost with Spark - they laugh at you. Well, someone is already is doing that, and I hope, more is coming. So my advice for potential Spark Energy customers is STAY AWAY! I have lost about $1,000 (yes: one thousand Dollars) with Spark Energy comparing to my local company's rates, and hope you won't make the mistake I have made.

First two months January and February 150.89 and 152.01... This is not savings at any way. It is called doubling your bill. I want out NOW!!! And I will not pay your 100.00 penalty. We are sorry to hear that you didn't find our services beneficial. I was taken advantage of by this company. BE WARNED! Spark Electricity and your Local Distribution Utility will rip you off and you will have no recourse. Spark has found a legal way of screwing you out of your hard-earned cash! The representative knocked on our door in July of 2016. They spoke to my wife, promising her a lower bill on her natural gas utility; got her to sign a one year contract with a $100 early termination fee; never mentioned that our current provider would be charging us a delivery fee.
First two bills looked good, but the next bill was outrageous; the delivery fee alone cost more than the total on our old bill. Spark Energy will just tell you that PG&E (or your local distribution utility) is the one that is responsible for the delivery fee. This is great! Your local energy distribution utility gets to charge you insane gas delivery fees because you are not their customer and Spark gets to collect your $100 early termination fee when you realize you are better off paying the fee to get out of the pseudo-fraudulent contract.
With our bill now double what it used to be, we are canceling Spark and paying the $100 early termination fee. Now Spark & PG&E are telling us that even though we cancelled, we will still possibly have Spark and PG&E ripping us off for the next couple of months. PG&E confirmed on the phone that they are working together! The Spark contract states: "Spark Energy has been approved by your Local Distribution Utility to offer and supply natural gas to you." DO NOT SIGN UP. You will have no recourse except to post a negative comment on BBB or Yelp like the hundreds of others that were scammed. The contract includes a class action waiver, protecting them from any class action lawsuit.
We are sorry to hear about your experience and that our services didn't work out for you. The village of Bradley, Illinois, where I live, decided that they were gonna take all the homeowners and put it in to some locked in energy thing. It seemed in the last five years that I've opted to be with them, my rates were just off through the roof. When I bought my house, the water, the sewer, and the garbage was all put into one bill at the village for $25 a month. Now, the water is $45 a month, the trash is $18 a month, and the sewer is $15 a month, so that’s all up to $100. I opted out of that and when Spark called, I chose them.
I'm a totally disabled woman so I needed to keep the price down with my utility bills. We need to have it where it's manageable for me. When I saw the electric bill this time with Spark, it was not that bad. It's better than getting a $250 electric bill from ComEd. And as long as the rates stay down, it's feasible for me to live in my own home. I don’t have to think about going to an assisted living place and being told what I could and couldn’t do at the place. I would recommend anybody to Spark.

Also, there was somebody that I could speak to when I called the phone numbers for the company. These people seemed knowledgeable and I was favorably disposed to them. Other energy providers don’t give access to individuals at all.
Thank you for your positive feedback, Ms. Brunjes. We hope that we can continue a long-standing business relationship with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions.

This company exists to trick gullible consumers (vulnerable, trusting old people!) into giving them money. I sincerely hope word gets out that this company is a scam. Shame on anyone who works for them.
Thank you for your feedback, Mr. Hollander. We can assure you that we are not a scam. Please feel free to reach out to our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com if you have an account issue you'd like for us to investigate.

Spark Energy had lower and better rates than other providers.
We are always happy to hear that our customers are enjoying lower rates. We are honored that you have selected us as a supplier and we look forward to many years of continued service.

I looked through a resource supplier list and got Spark Energy. Compared to other companies, Spark seemed the best with their terms and the rates. Spark is comparable or better than other providers I used in the past.
We understand how important savings and competitive rates are and we are happy that you have found that in Spark Energy. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be of service to you and thank you for your positive feedback.

I was reviewing my elderly father's electric account due to high electric bills. I noticed that he had "Spark Energy" as an energy supplier. They convinced him they would lower his rates, and they did... For the first few months, but then they MORE THAN TRIPLED the regular supply cost FOR YEARS, adding to thousands of extra dollars!!! When I confronted them to ask why they were charging almost 18 cents a kwh when con-edison themselves were only charging about 5 cents! They said "But your contract is expired, so we could charge what we want!" They said "It was written in the fine print of the contract!!!" STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE THIEVES!!!
We apologize that you and your father's experience with Spark Energy has been less than positive. Can you please email our Office of the President at oopcx@sparkenergy.com with your father's account information so we may investigate?

My contract with my last electric supplier was ending. I looked at different prices online through Eversource. Price stability is important for me, and Spark was one of the better-priced ones.
We are delighted to hear that we are able to provide you price stability with our competitive fixed energy rates. We truly appreciate you for being one of our valued customers and hope that you are a Spark Energy customer for years to come. Thank you for your feedback.

Customer Service Rep told me that the reason my bill went from $144 (already outrageous) to $250 was because the rate has gone up from $.45/therm to $1.19/therm. When asked why such a large rate increase, their response was "That's the variable rate at this time." Are you kidding me? Current market price for January 2017 (according to Peoples Gas) is $0.3904/therm, which I've chosen to revert back to and completely remove Spark Energy from my life. I will be canceling this service immediately as it's clear to me that there is no affordability or customer loyalty associated with Spark Energy. I welcome any sort of proposed resolution that may be presented by the "Office of the President".
We appreciate your feedback and I apologize that your experience with Spark Energy hasn’t been as pleasant as we had hoped. A contract expiration notice is mailed out 30 to 45 days prior to the contract expiring notifying you that your contract is about to end. A representative from our Office of the President has reached out to you and will be completing an account investigation and provide you with a possible resolution. We look forward to addressing your concerns. Thank you.

When People's Energy began offering different service providers, I signed up for Spark in 2014 and the bills were lowered for about seven months. Then they sent a huge bill of nearly $1,500 saying they had miscalculated something wrong and that I needed to pay. Horrible. I did pay it, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. They offered one of those ridiculous online "Entertainment Coupon Books (2 for 1 subs at Quiznos!") saying that it represented a whopping $500 in savings. I switched from Spark as a provider last fall and now they claim that I owe them $200+ dollars that wasn't paid to them through the last People's Energy payment. I didn't use any of those Entertainment coupons, maybe I can pay them with those. I would hesitate to call them scammers but they're far from on the up and up in my dealings.
Thank you for your honest feedback, Mr. Turner. We are sorry to hear that you didn't find value in the Dining Dollars that were sent. One of our associates in the Office of the President will be researching your account and reaching out to you via email regarding your experience.
