I have several issues with PSE&G that I would like to get help in resolving. For one, since PSE&G is the sole provider of utilities in NJ, they should be held accountable for manipulating their protocols. I have been a customer for over 12 yrs. About 4 yrs ago, I purchased a home and was moving from my apartment to my home. When I requested to have the account changed to the new address, they advised me that I needed to pay a deposit which makes no sense to begin with since I have had an account for over 8 yrs at that point. Four years in and I still have not received my deposit back. In the 12 years as a PSE&G customer, I have never had my service shut-off and I have managed to pay all of their ridiculous fees and estimated bills. It should be illegal for such monopolies to make up rules as they go. I want my deposit back!

I moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Hoboken on July 30, 2009. My first PSE&G bill came on August 5, 2009. They billed me $80.21 and claimed that I consumed 408 kwh electricity in a week. I made 5 calls and was on hold for over 2 hours. Finally, I got hold of somebody on the phone and he said he would adjust my bill to $35. On September 4th, I got my second bill and this time I was billed for $169.54 for 908 kwh of electricity. This is outrageous. I go to work very early in the morning and don't come home until 8 at night. It is impossible for me to consume that much electricity in a one-bedroom apartment.

I just moved into a new apartment in April of 2009. When I called PSE&G to have my service turned on at the new apartment, they charged me a deposit of $124. A payment for $29.92 was due on June 2. I paid online in the amount of $30. Now, I have a shutoff notice because I didn't pay the deposit. Ever since then, they've been applying my monthly payment to the security deposit and sending me shutoff notices when I'm paying my bill. This isn't right. This isn't real estate. They're providing gas and electric, and since when have they started collecting deposits from their customers?

I'm going to find out if I can go with another power company. If not now, when it's available for me to do so, I will. I want nothing to do with PSE&G. I'll make sure to tell family and friends if they can use another power company as well. We're a family of 5 and were receiving unemployment, the extension, mind you, and that has run out. Now PSE&G claims that if your bill is paid on time for a year, you'll get your deposit back with interest. What if something happens and I cannot pay on time for one or two months? Then they just get free money. They're the ones actually benefiting from this.

I can see if I actually owed $124 for services that I used, that's different. I cannot pay this, I'm sorry, I do not wish to be shut off. I don't need to be stressed more than I already am, and snap and do something stupid like a lot of unemployed people have done to themselves and their families because of this economy.

PSEG has mistakenly charged $7965 deposit on my account. I have been a customer with them for 8 years and have never missed a payment. I just moved and transferred my account. They never told me about the deposit and just put it on the bill. Now, they say I have to call their collection dept (after 5 calls and 4 hours on hold). I am very angry and they refused to let me speak to a supervisor. I have excellent credit scores. This is a technical mistake but they are holding on to a large sum of money and will not help me.

I seriously think they drugged my water or something. Somehow they found my number and called repeatedly until I came in. At the time, I was just moving here and had nothing better to do than take a Saturday drive and go for amusement if nothing else. They brought water and a lot of paperwork. By the time I drank the water I was almost in a state of euphoric high. I was excited about being there and everything. I was relaxed, would have opened up everything about my life to any given bum off of the streets although by nature I'm a very private individual. They had this huge sales pitch, started asking questions about my ex since I just had broken up from a long term relationship and had me thinking about the good times we had. Someone, of course, brought in flowers and said it was from another happy couple. There were letters and pictures of couples all over the office.

By the end of the whole thing I would have bought into anything. They charged somewhere around $6000, and those numbers didn't seem like a big deal until later in the day, and then I realized how much it was. I could have paid off my car. After the first month or so, they sent me my first match. Although I specifically stated that I only like skinnier type girls who have everything together. My first match turned out to be a morbidly obese unemployed mother who also lives with her mom. First, how did she get "accepted" with those strict parameters when she was unemployed? And does a 28 year old who still lives with her mom and kid sound like she has no baggage? The next one was a very crazy girl. She was professional and had a great job but was also very big and had a horrible temper. She was also an ethnicity that I didn't want.

Finally, I called Two of Us to not send me anymore dates, figured I would just cut my losses. Stay away from these people, they are a total scam. And I guarantee that these "positive" reviews on here, being the same dialect, are employees of Two Of Us trying to bring up their rating. Classic sales pitch.

PSE&G came to shut off my gas and lights. I was told I had to give them $1,765 to avoid shut off, so I did. Two weeks later, they sent me another check for $900. On the bill, gas was $28 and electricity was $98. I went down to the Paterson, NJ office and no one would help. In fact, the rep was very rude. His first name was **. He, however, would not give me his last name. Also, we purchased a broiler from them in 2006. According to them, we still have not paid for it which is a lie. They told us that the price of the broiler was included in our monthly bill. In the past year and 14 months, I have paid them over $4000.

My mother died so I live here alone and stay out of the house a lot. I know that with all the money that we have paid them since 2006 that the unit has been paid for. Also, I know these people are dishonest because this is a 2-family home and I received a bill for the first floor. There is no one living there and I still got a gas charge for over $400. The broiler on this floor has not worked for almost two years, yet I'm still getting a gas charge. My point is, if they are charging me for something that is not being used, how much are they overcharging me for what I am using? It's time for it to stop. I don"t mind paying my bill but I do care about being overcharged by thousands of dollars.

My family and I live in a 1-family house. Our PSE&G bill is always through the roof. First, no one ever comes to read our meter and then we get an estimate and that is through the roof. So we questioned everything. When we had an investigator come out, all he did was read the meter and he gave us a credit of just 3 months when there was an estimate done for more than 9 months out of the year. Then, we had another investigator named Albert who came out and he shut all the power off and the meter still ran. He said the meter would need to be replaced and it's 2 months now and nothing! I have called several times and left several messages. I am getting estimates again and now a shut-off notice! This is just insane! I was told my meter is not working properly, yet they don't replace it and if that's the case, then we need more than 3 months' credit! They do this because we cannot get service elsewhere! They are a big joke and a rip off and the next step for me is court!

We began to engage in an argument with a comment made by the rep stating, "Don't forget where you came from, **." This is not your property. After doing the research on the internet, there are several others with the same complaint. They gave everyone new account #'s in June. They gave everyone new account without even informing us. What can be done about this? Can I hire an outside agency to go over my readings and calculate my cost?

Firstly, I am a former customer of PSE&G whose account was closed in good standing, due to a move where I no long required their services. Today, I attempted to open a new account with them as I am taking over the lease of a house I've been living in (without a lease) over the last 10 months. The leaseholder of the house has moved out, and I have accepted a lease on the house. The customer service representative in their Passaic office refused service due to the previous leaseholder having an outstanding balance. Besides the fact she is no longer a resident (and has filed a new address with them), they insist that I am responsible for her balance (which is in dispute with them), and the only way I can keep my power on is if she happens to allow me to be added to her account, and I take equal responsibility. If she refuses to do this, I'm out of luck, and will have no power.

I have no contract with them, and owe them nothing. Someone else's irresponsibility should in no way affect my ability to get service, especially when they don't even hold a lease on this house anymore. This is unethical, and I'm pretty sure illegal. By this logic, if I ever drove her car, then I'm responsible for her car payments too. When I asked the CS representative if my kids were also responsible for this bill, he told me yes, and that since I questioned this ethic, that I had "an attitude", and because of this "attitude", this was now the policy in place. In other words, my questioning policy affected policy specific to me. This monopoly makes its own rules on their opinion of people, apparently. I have no choice but to fight this because I have no alternatives for power.

I have been having an ongoing problem with power surges at my home for over 3 years. I have replaced my central AC unit 4 times and each time I replace it, the unit stops working. The first time, I had a power surge at my home. Last year, during one of our surges, it was discovered that I had the wrong type of wiring coming into my home, but PSE&G said that had nothing to do with my problems with the AC. In addition, after my last AC unit was replaced, Carrier inspected the unit and found there was nothing wrong with the unit. Obviously, there is something wrong with the power being provided into my home.

I have never been late paying my bill to PSE&G. I have never damaged any of their equipment. However, I have been treated as though I am a deadbeat, with no answers coming from the company. In addition to all of my problems with the AC unit, my son has a seizure disorder brought on by extreme heat. My wife and I have documented that with PSE&G and every time my unit goes out, I have to call the emergency line and am told by customer service that we can't get to your house until the next day. I am appealing to you for help because I have been unable to get any from anyone else.

Additionally, my next door neighbor has a unit that is over 10 years old and his unit never goes out during these power surges. Last year, PSE&G added an additional transformer on my street and that has still not stopped the outages. I can't keep spending $6,000 every year on a new AC unit. It is not warranted nor is it fair to me or my family.

I am the landlord at the above address. PSE&G has been overcharging me for the gas and the light bills. I ordered the gas and the light so that I can show the unit and so that no one breaks into the unit. The unit has been vacant since July 2008. PSE&G allowed a Lasanna ** to put her name on the bill for the second floor unit, thus establishing residency without a lease and cost me unnecessary money to evict her along with additional legal problems with Ms. ** abandoning her vehicle on the property and the Dept of Inspection giving me fine for it. Today, Tuesday, 8/11/2009 at 5:49 for a total of 28:51 minutes, I called the PSE&G telephone #1-800-436-7734 and waited for 25 minutes before speaking with a Ms. **. I guess she did not like the way I spoke, she stopped talking to me.

I requested to speak with a supervisor and she told me that none was available and she did not give me the name of any upon request. At 8:59, a total of 4:19 minutes, a Mr. ** called. He did not want to hear what I have to say. I tried to explain to him that I have two accounts with PSE&G for the unit. The landlord account, which provides only heat for the entire house which uses forced hot air and the 1st floor unit. PSE&G has been overcharging me for the 1st floor and refuses to correct the unit. Initially, PSE&G claimed that the meter reader did not have access to the meter. I went to the branch unit on ** and dropped off the key. Last month, the bill was estimated again. PSE&G still has not made the corrections to my account. I have written the BPU and Mr. ** informed me that he cannot make PSE&G do anything, he is only a mediator.

Since PSE&G is regulated by the BPU, there should be some guidelines, rules and regulations that say how much they can charge. If PSE&G overcharges, there should be a fine and the customers compensated for the inconvenience. PSE&G is allowed to charge to disconnect one's service for non-payment. PSE&G should be made to reimburse these fees and compensate the customers when they wrongly overcharge the customers. I had a meter reader came while I was at the property and the meter did not change, but PSE&G refuses to reimburse me. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated as well as expected. I need a detailed bill from the time the service was activated with the initial reading and the current reading, and how many watts was actually used for both gas and light as well as how much per wattage is charged.

At first, reading the horrific scenarios others have encountered, I thought not to write my complaint. Then, I realized that all the complaints were linked to what I encountered and have to say about it.

I recently had a problem with my PSE&G bill and called them in order to straighten out the problem. I called 5 times (at different times) and each time I got a recorded message saying my wait would be longer than 10 minutes. Even on a Sunday night after 9 pm, I encountered the same "nonsense". I also noticed that there is no direct way to contact customer service; I had to keep repeating "customer service" which caused an error in the voice response system, therefore, forcing it to transfer me to a human.

Almost every call I made, I was on hold for 30 minutes with no resolution. Their "excuse" is they're "really busy and working hard to resolve all problems". Well, it seems to me they are not doing anything to help anyone; so what are they so busy doing? In fact, the representative would not even give me her name or ID # until I convinced her I was only going to complain regarding the wait time and not her. Regardless, she is required to give me that information no matter what. When I asked to speak with the manager persistently, I got a call back after 10 pm on a Sunday night by someone named Tony who left a message with no last name or # to contact him except the main # which apparently does not help anyone.

If you have a serious problem with them, I would set aside a few hours to deal with it. Record the call and hire an attorney promptly. The only thing that will get their attention to resolve the problem is the law.

I received a PSE&G bill with over $700 in charges the first month I lived in this apartment. PSE&G is not simply padding our utility bill with an extra $50, but hosing people down outrageously. And we have no recourse. There is no media coverage that reflects the thousands and thousands of complaints people in New Jersey have made against PSEG. Why isn't the state investigating this company for gauging its customers? How can the state not rein them in? It's totally criminal. The state and the media are in collusion with them. My credit was damaged so that when I tried to move out of Jersey City, I was not rented the apartment I applied for. This was entirely the fault of my PSE&G bill. Before I signed up with PSE&G, I had decent credit.

I am a disabled person. PSE&G mailed me in May 2009 an over-inflated bill via US Mail. They falsely claimed that my home electric usage in April 2009 was 5223 kwh, and in May 2009 was 5212 kwh. 5,000 kwh is typically the usage of a building with 15-20 houses (I only live in one.). My bill came to $1,949,74. This ruined my day and gave me nightmares for months afterwards. I called PSE&G in May and spoke to a "Christine," and all she said was, "The only thing I can do for you is to send an investigator to see what is attached to the meter," without apology nor sensitivity. I live alone, and the disturbing thing is that for the entire month of April 2009, the house was totally empty as I was outside the country for a month.

I called PSE&G again in May, and they said that many customers have had similar unexplainable "spikes" which was caused by a glitch in their "new" system, and they asked me not to worry and that they are fully aware of my historical monthly usage, etc. They promised to send an investigator to fix this problem. No one ever came. I called several times, and they kept telling me that they are a little behind but that someone would come by and fix this mess. May, June, and July passed; and no one came. Still, PSE&G, using the US postal service, was still sending me "overcharged" bills. In August, I called, and my "request for investigation" in May was lost. They offered to issue a "new" request for investigation. I insisted on speaking to a supervisor.

A supervisor "Tony" called me, and immediately and without any evidence, he started "speculating" without any facts that there "may" have been a "short" in my house that "may" have caused the spike. And then he added that, even though this is very unlikely with a 0.01% possibility, if the meter in my house is functioning properly, that means that I would be responsible for 10,000 kwh consumption for 2 months. I am horrified, and I feel totally helpless and totally under the total mercy of PSE&G and its gigantic might, especially when they are the "other party", "the investigator", and “the judge”. I filed 2 complaints with the Board of Public Utilities, a board that is supposed to be a "consumer protection agency" and spoke to Mr. **.

The first words out of his mouth were, "PSE&G will check the meter. If the meter is functioning, then you have somehow consumed the 10,000 kwh in 2 months." He then went ahead to praise PSE&G, saying that they are accurate, they can be trusted, and their investigation is final. This is coming from the mouth of the agency that is supposed to protect the consumer. He added, "We are neutral," as opposed to “We protect the consumer.” In fact, he is letting PSE&G be the other party, the investigator, and the judge. Whether they commit fraud or not, it is not his concern.

Just like most people today, I am falling behind on my bills. I had an outstanding balance with PSE&G for $2,700. I know this is a lot. I applied for a one time energy assistance for the state and was pending. I informed all of this to a very rude "customer service" representative on the phone and that I had full intentions of giving them my next paycheck in full, which should hopefully be $600. This was not enough. The next day, without any warning, our lights went off. The PSE&G car pulled into my neighbor's driveway like a real thief in the night and turned our power off. Needless to say, I think this is what fried our DVD player.

I called PSE&G and waited on hold after being disconnected numerous amounts of time, only to be told I had to pay $1,900. I told them that I was just paid $600 and I had $100 in savings. If they could just turn my power back on for the weekend, I could probably be able to get the rest up together by selling some items on the internet and would immediately bring 600 plus dollars to the local billing office. The woman I was speaking to was actually fairly pleasant, but could "not do anything for me". So, I sat in the dark sad, depressed and wondering if I should just totally let my home slip into foreclosure, file bankruptcy and move into an apartment somewhere (The American Dream 2009). After using the internet at the library, I was able to sell some of my belongings and borrow $300 from family to get my power turned on.

PSE&G is a merciless, faceless, multimillion dollar operation that cares not for its customers. We have no choice for outside power companies and are stuck with PSE&G's monopolization of power. Eventually, PSE&G will become outdated. It may take 10 years or 50 years, but solar will prevail. What happened when phone companies started charging too much? People turned to their cable provider for phone service. It's just a matter of time.

How can they just keep my money forever like this?

I recently lost my job and have 2 small children. I am a single mother. I called to ask them to use my deposit toward the balance on the bill and the woman on the phone was so rude to me, and said, "I cannot do that." So, they would rather shut my gas off with 2 young children than use my money I gave them 14 months ago towards the bill. I don't understand how this is even legal. I made several phone calls and was told someone would be there before 8pm since they try to do the work order within the 12-hour window. Yeah right!

I called again at 8:20pm and was told someone would be there before midnight. At 9:30pm, still there was no one. At 10:15pm, nothing. Needless to say, each time I called, I had to wait for a rep for over 15 minutes. I finally press 1 for emergency, because the automated voice would say to call back again because of too many calls. We tried to get them to take $400 then, but they wouldn't budge. We moved into my parents' house for a week - two adults, three young children.

The following Friday, I went in to pay the $1,300. However, I was told that they needed $1,800, had no record of any prior arrangement and no one would budge. We managed to borrow another $500 and paid it the following Tuesday (5.19.09), getting our power restored. But it got worse after that. Last week (5.21.09), the Public Health Department came to our door saying that our township had been alerted by PSEG that our electricity had been turned off due to an unpaid bill.

Besides being horribly embarrassing that our township and PSEG had been talking about our finances, we received today a notice from the Burlington courts that we have to go to court in June for a hearing because our property may be condemned! Our lights are on, and no one is unhealthy. I seriously think that this is all because my husband raised a stink about our rights of privacy being invaded. I called up customer service to find out what happened and they told me that someone did show up at my home around 1:30pm or something and they don't know why.

Okay then, I asked to reschedule for next day and so rep scheduled for next day May 2nd from 12-4pm. The next day, when no one called and showed up until 2pm, I called the customer service to make sure that the same mistake does not happen again. Rep told me that yes, I do have an appointment scheduled for today so I should wait until 4pm. I asked to call the technician and find out the approximate time when he/she will be here. Rep told me they cannot do that and I will need to wait because they will show up. Guess what, I waited until 4pm and no one called and no one showed up. Then I called customer service again and I was shocked to hear that in the system, there was no appointment scheduled for today, rather it was scheduled for May 30 from 8 to 4. So, somebody changed my appointment and made me look like a fool. Now, I am waiting to hear back from a supervisor but I doubt anyone will call me back.

My gas bill every month is always $400. I want to know how and why because it is just two people who live upstairs and we're barely here. We leave out of the house at 6:30 in the morning and return home at 12 pm in the night. So can you tell me how my bill is so high every time? They don't come and read the meter at all. They send me a bill every time telling me that's the reading of the meter, but it can't be because my meter is down in the basement. They know to ring the bell to get down there to read it but they don't do it. But when they come to cut it off, they ring the bell for that payment all the time. So the same way, they can ring the bell for that payment is the same way they can ring the bell to read the meter. They send us these highway robbery bills.

On April 26, 2009, I came into my home and noticed that my furnace was running. The heat was set and temperature was set to 68 degrees, yet the thermostat showed 98 degrees. I immediately put it on off but the furnace still kept running. I called PSE&G and was told to shut it off inside the furnace. I did but it still kept on running. He then told me to shut the breaker off and a neighbor came off and shut the breaker off. The furnace stopped running. The man said someone would be at my home the next day between 4 & 8 pm. He also said that if it had anything to do with the AC, I would be charged $115. I told him I did not have my AC on. I sensed an attitude in his voice.

The next day, I waited. No one showed up at my home. I called PSE&G and was put on hold for 40 minutes. I was so nervous but I knew I had to continue to hold on. When I finally got to speak to someone and explained my situation, she looked up my file and said nothing was ever written up for a home repair visit. This made me very angry, but what else could I do? I had to bite my tongue and accept another appointment which couldn't be made for another 2 days. They said that was the best they could offer.

The damage that resulted was that I cannot use my AC because it is on the same unit as the furnace. It has been very hot today and I suffer a lot from the heat. I had lung cancer and had part of my lung removed and have difficulty breathing as it is. I am a senior of 74 years and feel like I was taken advantage of. I am very upset over this incident you cannot imagine how much. Worst of all is, I am at PSE&G's mercy and cannot do anything myself to resolve the problem. I wish that the company would treat seniors better and try to remember that we are human beings also. Thank you for your time.

I had my power cut off early February when it was 14f outside after I renewed my lease and my unreliable roommate moved out. They told me that I had to pay 500 of the 1700 dollar bill to get power back on. Now they refuse to turn on my power even after the board of services told them to. My service was interupted on 3/16/09 due to non-payment. My wife and I had lost our jobs a couple of months ago and were trying to get back on our feet. Our bill was not paid so I called PSE&G and explained our situation and asked if i could get put on a payment plan. The person on the other side of the phone explained to me the payment plant and we agreed on paying an extra $126 a month plus our monthly charge. The next month came and I got a bill for $992. I thought to myself how can this be a payment plan when the bill is still coming higher and higher? We called PSE&G to try and get our service re-connected. I explained to the gentleman that I had a two year old daughter and that I needed my service again. They told me that I had to pay $700 right then and there in order for them to connect me again. I explained to them that just like everyone else, we were having a tough economic crisis and that I coulnd't pay that much. They didn't want to hear it. By this time my daughter had caught a cold because of the coldness in my house. I finally paid $370 to get it connected but now it's been two days. Finally my wife got in contact with the credit department and they told her someone would be there on 3/18/09 sometime after 3:30pm because we both work now. I had to leave work an hour early just to be home in order for them to connect me. What I don't understand is how can they can shut your electricity off when no one is home but they need someone there to connect it back? I called at 4:30pm on 3/18/09 and they told me someone will be there from that time to 11:00pm. Now 7:00pm came and still no one. My wife then called and they told her someone would be there from that time til 11:30pm. (They just added another 1/2 hour!) 10:30pm rolled on by and I called again. By this time I was annoyed and explained all over what was going on. The person told me someone would be there from 10:30pm til midnight. (Again they just added another 1/2 hour) By this time I knew they were playing with us but I decided to stay. Midnight came and still no one. By this time I got fed up and we headed over my parents house, where we were staying. I called lovely PSE&G again and they had me on hold for about 15minutes. Finally I got through and explained that no one showed up. They told me that someone was there at 11:20pm and that no one answered. I told them that was a lie because I was in my livingroom for 8 hours and no one came. My livingroom faces the front door and it has three windows. It was impossible that I missed him. We heard no doorbell or banging on the window. The only thing they could tell me was that they could re issure my order and send someone out the next day. I was so furious I gave him a piece of my mind in a nice way. In the end, he had the audacity to tell me to have a good night. How could I have a good night when they didn't turn my electricity on. I missed hours from work and wasted a whole day waiting for a person that never showed up. It was easy for them to turn my service off and easy for them to take our money, but I guess it's not that easy to turn it back on huh? I AM SO DISGUSTED WITH EVERYONE THAT WORKS AT PSE&G!!!!!!!

We opened our PSEG account in September 2007. In October 2007, PSEG shut power off to our whole house (2 family - no power on either story) because the previous tenant had not payed their bills which had nothing to do with us or our landlord. This cost me an entire day of waiting on hold and waiting in lines at the PSEG office to rectify. When we received our first bill it was over $600, including a $500 deposit. Being young professionals, that is no small amount of money. We paid it off and were told that in 1 year we would receive the deposit back. Now, 1 year later, I was told in January that in February I would begin receiving credits on my bill for the deposit. They did not appear on my Feb. or March statement, and when I called I was told that I would not receive the credit until they deem by whatever standards they choose that we have paid the bills satisfactorily. Apparently they don't feel that paying the bills every month in full for 18 months is enough. I've been on hold for over an hour now with no end in sight. No one will help.

I moved in to my 1 bedroom apartment in August of 2008. During my first week in the new apartment, I recieved a bill from PSE&G that did not have my name on it, but did have my address on it. I called them to see what was up. They told me not to worry about it b/c it must be an old bill from the previous tenant and if it didn't have my name on it, I would not be resposible for the payment. OK. Long story short, I recieve one of these "phantom bills" every month. I also recieve a bill with my name on it, but the apartment number is not mine. I call them again asking what this means - they tell me since the building is old, the "service address" might be different than the actual address and I should not worry about it. OK. Months go by, I continue to receive the "phantom bills" and I call every month to make sure that I don't owe extra money as the "phantom bills" increase monthly. Again, they tell me not to worry about it if my name doesn't appear on the bill. December comes along and I get a notice (my name is not on it, but my address is)that I haven't payed my bills (which I have, on time, every month) and my power will be shut off if I don't contact PSE&G immediately. I call them and get the same story - it must have something to do with the previous tenant's account, if you're name is not on the bill, don't worry about. Ok great. 3 weeks later, my power gets shut off. I call them and explain to at least 5 different people the situation and that there is obviously something wrong b/c I pay my bills every month and it has to have something to do with these "phantom bills"...long story short (and 6 hours of darkness and cold later) it turns out that PSE&G signed me up under apartment 4 - I live in apartment 5. And I've been paying for their electricity/gas since August. Then they tell me that I have been paying too much and will get a $300 credit - Awesome! sounds great...unfortunately the person who told me that must have had the IQ of a peanut b/c it turns out that I wasn't paying enough over the course of the previous 6 months. Now I get a new bill with the correct apartment number on it and they're telling me that I owe them almost $600. I obviously call again. Not only do I need to explain the whole convoluded story again b/c the manager who told me he would make a note on my account, did not, but I also owe them all of this money b/c when I opened my account, the person who input the information into the system, put me down as living in the wrong apartment. So now I owe all of this money basically b/c of the incompetence of someone at PSE&G. To sum it all up - now they're telling me that my monthly electric bill is anywhere between $200 and $300. Again, I have a 1 bedroom apartment and the heat (which we're assuming is the reason for the high price) is only on for about 8 hours a day. I do NOT leave it on when I'm not home. This seems kind of outrageous. I know electric heat is expensive, but c'mon, this seems a little crazy.

After moving into our new home, I received a bill from PSE&G. Not sure if it was the charge left over from my previous address or new, I paid it in full anyway. Then some days later, I received another bill with a deposit charge on it, which I was never told about when I called to transfer my account. This is also something they do not do (a new address is a new account).

The facts: I was never told there was going to be a deposit, let alone any sort of amount. When I called the first time, I was told to call billing and collections. Of course, in the digital age we are today, they can't transfer a call and I have to wait for 40 minutes to only repeat the whole story again. The human answering machines they place on the phones are trained to answer questions in specific ways, so when I asked what my options (upper case S for multiple choices), the response was you can pay the bill you're due.

Where's the government interference here to end this monopoly? My options at the moment are: Pay the bill with the surprise deposit and shut up, or have no service. When asked why, I wasn't told about the deposit when I called to transfer my service. I heard the representative can't tell whether or not you'll have to pay a deposit, or the amount. When asked if I should be told to expect and budget for a possible deposit for an amount between x and y, what I heard was "What else can I help you with, sir?"

The Next Fat Cats of the Economy - PSE&G, yes, they are a monopoly in the state of New Jersey. First off, hypocrites, don't even try and tell us you're going green. Your company is supposed to be the forefather of technology. You still mail out paper bills thick at times. You can access your site in the library. These days, you can make payments electronically and those payments should post immediately if they're real time. So what is their excuse? You can't even receive a fax via email. Their customer service is misinformed and heartless. If you ask a question, they put you on hold for 5 hours. They are so flooded with calls they disconnect you or put you on hold for 5 hours. Here it is one of the coldest days of the year and they are playing a deadly game. My electric and gas were turned off.

On Jan 5th, my power was turned off first for late payment late. (I lost my job on my 2-year anniversary.) I paid $150 immediately at a bill payment center, usually a cashier's. check. They ask you where. So you do not know where your customer's money is but they have a receipt for payment. Uh, you may want to keep a list. There are a small few major bill processing agents that I know of; IPP in Fairfield is a major one. So their list would not be very long. There are no excuses. If all of us are capable of doing these things from home, why can't they? Give them some updated equipment and a reliable customer program. I believe there would be less customer confusion, which leads to frustrations.

Later that day, I paid another $550. Now when they come turn you off, they will generally accept money or proof of payment from the customer. It was already off so I called and they asked me for a receipt. They gave me the fax #908-653-1836. Now, I am aware that they keep computerized and recorded records of conversations. They also give their comments. I'm sure mine are not pretty. So they asked me who I spoke to, just to waste time to see if I'm keeping track. Here I sit two days with no heat. After 20 calls and 6 hours, still no heat. I am on the phone with them at this moment. First person I spoke to put me on hold because I insulted Jim by telling him how to do his job. Apparently, when I called this afternoon, they were able to find my balance of four years easily. And now, they're having a lot of trouble finding it. This is turning into a log.

At 8:05pm, I was still on hold. They're all enjoying it sitting in warmth mocking their customers who are becoming ill with no heat. I am so sure there are others out there who have had to go through worse than me. Just to do more damage, they kickback the payment to the bill payment center to delay the process even further all over a piece of ID they could have checked while they were putting my heat back on and I was warming up. I will be the first to bail this ship when they find a better way. I wonder if they have a nice warm, comfy jet they fly or warm cozy seats for a Nets game?

PSE&G had reduced its gas supply rate in the fall of 2006 and did not raise the gas supply rate in the fall of 2007. But gas prices stay steady for last 5 years between 6 and 8 per mmBTU , except 2 spikes in September-December 2005 , and July 2008 . Even after hurricane Katrina , PSE&G increased only 10% . Also they keep increasing gas delivery rate - more than 20% for last 2 years . Such price increases not justified in a current deflationary environment .

I like to know what is my right as consumer. Please note that in November of 2002 county approved my permit application. PSE&G is the only company that is widthholding my project.

I can not continue the construction project. If this project is inactive for 6 months, I have to re-apply for the construction permit application which will cost me $4000.00.

I noticed that my gas charges were estimated for the months with the highest gas comsumption (November and December) while all the other months charges were based on actual gas meter readings. In December, I called PSEG and was informed that the reason for the estimate charges was that nobody was at my home. I responded that statement is not correct, there have been people at my home. After this call PSEG continue estimating the charges for the months of January and February.

The charges estimated were much higher than actual gas comsuptions on previous winter months. In June 19, after sending my payment for $290.37 I received a bill from PSEG with a credit balance for $204.61. I called customer srvice and was informed (order 171396900) that after I sent my payment PSEG read my meter and realized that the estimated consumption was higher than the actual and they credited the account for the difference. This is after they have charged as actual exact amounts for gas comsuption in the months of April, May and June.

I requested a check to be sent to me and the customer representative told me that it will take 3 weeks.

    After this I believe that

-PSEG is not reading the meters in winter to overcharge customers

    - The estimates used by PSEG are extremly hign and there is no good rationale for that

    - PSEG is reading the meters in June and credited the customer for the cash advance what PSEG took from customer.

Customers do not have right to a reimbursement of interest or compensation for the amounts collected unnecesarily by PSEG from the customers.
PSEG discourage customer to get a reimbursement.
In my opinion, these practices are unacerptable and need to be investigated.

Financial. I have been overpaying utility charges for 8 months and I do not have the right to collect them back right away. No monetary compensation is being done by PSEG to customers but customers are charged a poenalty if they pay their service late.
