The business practices are lacking integrity at the Amerigas on Salinas Rd. I was a Santa Cruz county resident until mid October. Amerigas has had some shady and deceptive practices throughout my business with them, yet when I tried to switch companies, the Covid limitations didn’t allow other propane companies to start new service that required entering homes. Amerigas overcharges for propane and is the most expensive in comparison to all of the others in the county, even with being a member of SPUG. **SPUG is an organization that allows you to get propane at wholesale or close to wholesale price—check it out regardless what company you go with.**
When I moved, Amerigas informed me that their policy is that they will send someone to pick up the tank and then a refund check will be written for the gas returned. I was told mine was $377. *Just a note* before I moved, I called three times and all three people told me the same policy before I scheduled to have my tank picked up. After months of being on hold (5.5 hours over 4 months) and receiving avoidant customer service, I was told they do not give refunds and that’s that. On top of it, they tried to charge me for the tank rental in 2021 that I no longer have, but after being on hold for 2 hours, that part was resolved.
Before I walk away from this situation for my sanity sake, I just wanted to spread awareness of these really poor and deceptive business practices. I filed a complaint on BBB, Amerigas did not reply, and found many others complaining of the same misleading situation. Amerigas then turns around and resells the propane. If I was informed accurately about this, I would have left the propane for the new resident to use. We are still in a pandemic and funds are hard to come by so to me, this is just stealing from and misleading consumers. You can find more info on this by referring to BBB or Yelp, as well as any google search of Amerigas and see that they are taking advantage of customers. I’m just one who prefers to use my voice to warn others.
Other issues I experienced over the 2.5 years I did business with them:
-My tank ran out of propane despite being on autofill.-They overcharge at least $1 per gallon compared to other places. When I asked them not to fill my tank and do a partial fill due to being out of work due to shutdowns, they filled my tank full anyway and when I fought for a discount, it was minimal.
-They have NEVER return an email, even in regards to billing.
There are also a handful of other ways they try to charge fees or rent that are out of integrity. Read the small print, and even if you do, they’ll try to nickel and dime you. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t received a class action lawsuit yet. Amerigas lacks accountability, integrity, and responsible customer service.

Amerigas is terrible. I'm surprised that this is an American owned company. They are way too big for their own good and cannot service their customers. When I first started with them at my new home. They screwed up the order and I was without propane for a month. Just recently they were supposed to deliver on February 15th, but we had that major storm.
I ran out of propane in freezing temperatures two days later and called them every day for ten days to see where my propane was. They could have cared less. They are totally unprofessional and don't give a crap about their customers. They kept telling me the district was closed but there would be a delivery soon. And no delivery ever came. I finally cancelled my account and a month later their propane tank is still on my property. I've asked them several times to remove it and they still haven't. If you need propane absolutely DO NOT USE Amerigas. Go with a smaller company that you can speak to directly and that cares about their customers. This was the worst experience I've ever had dealing with a utility company.

This is the worst company I have ever had to deal with! I have been trying to close my account and get them to pick up our tank for 6 months now. They charged us for a year of tank rental in November even though we asked them to pick up our tank. I have been disputing those charges since then. They have piled on late fees and even sent us to collections despite having in their records that we were disputing the charge. I have asked to speak to managers and the customer contact people say they will have a supervisor call me but then no one calls. We have asked to have their service people call us to set up the pickup and we get no calls. I think they are betting on us getting so worn down that we’ll just pay this charge. Avoid them at all cost,

March 15, 2021. 42 degrees. We got home from Florida to find the propane disconnected and a lock places on the tank preventing reconnection. There was a ticket on the tank but it was illegible. After Twenty seven minutes on hold with customer service I hung up and called the emergency number. The emergency customer service person said that no heat in near freezing conditions is not an emergency so I get kicked back to the regular customer service line where I’m on hold for about fifteen minutes. The guy told us the system is updating and he can’t do anything. Their lock fell off the tank and I reconnected the propane to fire up the heat, while doing that my wife got in touch with someone who said there is a possible leak. The propane was turned off and we got a hotel for the night.
Next day I’m rested and tried this again. Short wait for a customer service person who said that the tank was empty when they came to fill it so they lock it and want to check for a leak (possible leak would have been nice to be able to read on the paperwork). Earliest they can come out to check and reconnect is April 14th. A month without heat or hot water. I called another company who could have someone out today to check, fix and set up a new tank. AmeriGas got dumped.

Let me tell you about Amerigas... A full day of phone calls, spoke with 5 "resolution specialists" after listening to their recorded message telling me how great their customer service is. Repeating my same issue over and over for each person. Being told over and over that their supervisors aren't reachable by phone. Here's our problem. We bought a home with a rented propane tank that belongs to Amerigas. Just prior to closing on the home, the tank went empty. Amerigas wouldn't fill it for us because we didn't have the account yet, so the seller agreed to have it filled and we would just pay him. We talked to him and Amerigas about seamless transition of the service.
The tank was then filled on an emergency delivery... over $600. Fast forward to end of February. Mark set up a new account with Amerigas by phone. We are at our new home and check the tank. It's at 45%. Not bad. We make a note to try to coordinate delivery when the neighbors get their propane delivered. We leave the new place.
Unbeknownst to us, Amerigas comes and takes the tank away March 8th... without notifying us, getting permission...nothing. No heat in house... Unbeknownst to us. So we call today to schedule delivery of more propane to be told the tank has been removed. They can't tell us who ordered it to be picked up or why it was picked up. They say our account set up wasn't completed. They say if we want the tank back we will have to pay a delivery fee of the tank, additional fee to inspection of the tank and lines, $1.77 gallon to fill the tank and can't guarantee we will get credit for what was in the tank when they picked it up without our knowledge or consent. Now THAT'S great customer service! NOT!!! TOTALLY wrong. Warning to others considering their service.

We ran out of propane in December and they changed their system to where you can't call the local office. After calling and being on hold for over an hour without anyone picking up, (never responded to emails either) and trying for two days, we switched to Pro Flame. Turns out they're cheaper. And you can actually call them. Amerigas then charged me a $70 service fee to come get their own tank, for me canceling because I couldn't get a hold of anyone. In the contract I signed 4 years ago it did state they'd charge this fee, but it was $39 back then. They refused to waive it. It's like they're trying to chase customers away and make them never want to come back. Great company. /s

I canceled my service after many attempts to work with them, they waived their rental fee last year, I was satisfied, I ended up buying my own tank, so I canceled their service, now they are trying to charge me last year's rent and 36 dollars a month penalty, I can't tell you how many times I got transferred, no one will return call! I've been in business for many years, I never have experience worst service than Amerigas in my life!

This pitiful excuse for a propane service isn't even worth considering. After Covid hit they closed all offices completely. You could not connect via telephone as wait time on hold reached 117 minutes on one occasion. It was never less than an hour. You could not access any human to order service, refills or even answer questions about account numbers making it impossible to do anything online. It took almost 5 months to get service and that required complaints to the state attorney general and the Better Business Bureau. If you want service GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, these people are incompetent idiots at best.

This company is awful. I had Heritage Propane and then found out AmeriGas bought them out. I scheduled my yearly fill of my tank (only used for the fireplace). I had to prepay (first time having to do that). A few days later, the truck pulled up, the guy got out and walked to my backyard and then left. No fill. I gave them a couple of days, thinking something was wrong. Never came back. I called 4 times over the course of the next 3 weeks. All the time someone new telling me they don't know why it wasn't filled and they will send someone out immediately. Finally on the 5th call, someone finds out that they do not service my type of tank anymore. What?!?! I asked for a refund. One was given to me (direct deposit into my bank account). Thought I was done.
Then I get a check in the mail a week later. I call to tell them I will not cash it. Another week later, I receive an email with A BILL for the same amount as I paid for the prepay. I called to ask for it to be removed - "Yes, we will get that disputed and removed". Didn't happen. At this point, I could have paid the bill and cashed the check, but I was fed up and wanted to uphold the principle of the issue. Now I'm 3 months later, have 3 late fees and collection agencies contacting me. I have called AmeriGas THREE MORE TIMES to have the charges disputed....every time they say they are disputed and will be removed. Still fighting it.

Previously I had experienced excellent customer service. However, for the past 3 wks I have been told I would receive a delivery. No delivery came. Currently out of propane. Tank reads that I have 20 gallons but actually it is empty. Promised 4 times that I would receive an emergency delivery and there would not be any extra charge. Again, no delivery came. Originally called before the snow/ice, then called when snow/ice on ground, then called after the melt and sun came out. Each time told delivery would be made that day or the following day. Does Amerigas want to lose their customers???

Moved to current address in 2015. Amerigas came to home to fill tank and said tank was too close to Air Conditioner. Charged me to move tank. Said nothing about tank under deck. They refilled tank several more times. On 10/20/20 they came to fill the tank and said they would not because it was under the deck. I explained that the tank was right where Amerigas put it under the deck. The driver still refused to fill it and left. I called (very difficult to reach) and explained this to a representative. She said this sounded wrong and would send someone back out.
Someone came in Nov. and again refused to fill it. I next received a bill for $76.46 for a service call. I called another company and they filled the tank with no problem. I sent a letter explaining all this and have heard nothing from them except monthly bills adding $36 per month late fee. It is almost impossible to phone this company. I explained all this in an email to their customer service. No response. Customer service is terrible. There are many propane providers. Suggest using another one.

The absolute worst customer service and follow through we have ever experienced. Evidently Heritage Propane (who we have been receiving all billing and communications through for at least a year) was purchased by Amerigas. We were never informed and have been paying Heritage up until today (legal?). After having scheduled a delivery 2 weeks ago, nothing but lip service has been offered by AmeriGas. Our gas ran out at the worst time and the weather prevented delivery. Weather we can understand. Despite AmeriGas not delivering, we were told for 3 days we were “scheduled to be delivered today” which is a flat lie, no trucks ran due to weather. Meanwhile, weather being completely clear 3 days later and roads cleared, their answering service now tells us that their driver only delivered until 11am today and will try for tomorrow. No call, no followup, no apologies, no assurance as to when or IF it will be delivered tomorrow much less ever.
Meanwhile all roads are clear so what kind of company that offers an important service like this stops their day at 11am? Its criminal. Any company that doesnt have the decency to followup and be honest with their clients doesn’t deserve customers. Rather they prefer to put layers of ticketing and answering services which serve no good.

This company is awful. Called amerigas in January to have our tank filled. They were supposed to come do an inspection on our tank on January 22 but they were a no call no show. Also we had already paid them for the filling of the tank so at that point I was just ready to be done with them realizing they were not going to be reliable and whenever you call you're on hold forever and constantly being transferred. I called them wanting my money refunded and have been told two times now that it's in the process of being refunded and it's been almost four weeks since my first phone call to get a refund. Don't use this company unless you need more stress in your life.

We have been with AmeriGas since 2003. At first this company was very helpful with everything needed. We have a backup generator and a propane pool heater. Propane prices went way up so I put in a rice coal boiler to heat the pool. This cut my propane bill from $900.00 a month to $100.00 a month, but I still needed propane for my generator so AmeriGas but use on call when needed. So we call when our 500 gal tank is at 30%. We used to get a delivery within a week or so. But the last 2 years we call and delivery is 4 weeks later. We ask them to call before delivery so someone would be here for the delivery, if no one is at home they lock the tank and I need to have someone scheduled to unlock the tank, this takes a week or two. I have electronic igniters, no piolet light.
Now this year we have used propane to heat our indoor pool because I had to have quad bypass. It has been over a month and no delivery and they keep saying a different date each time I call. We have used propane at a fast rate due to subzero weather, but we pay before delivery the full amount still no propane and no date on delivery. I called again, I have the # for memory and they put me on a emergency list but still no delivery. Have talked to other companies and they have delivery problems also.

We're unfortunately stuck with AmeriGas for propane for our home because they own the tank. In the time we have dealt with them they have proven to be nothing but liars. They promise deliveries, never show up, or when they do they don't provide the amount requested. And then they try to overcharge. We had an emergency situation recently, tried calling for three days. After explaining the situation we were lied to by 99% of the AmeriGas representatives, esp. the supervisors. They promised we 'were on the list for delivery the same day', never happened. Then promised we were on the list for the following day. Big lie!! Never happened!! At this time we're out of propane, still cannot get an answer other than more lies. Am sure they all had a good laugh. Am calling the State Attorney General's office tomorrow to file a formal complaint.

I attached a pic of my thermostat this morning. My wife has spent hours on the line with them and they obviously employ call centers outside the country. I finally was able to get local company to upload site survey which was another nightmare. When I called backroads schedule, they said system said the system would only allow it to schedule 6 weeks out but they would notify company and see if they could speed things up. I would receive a call soon I was told.
No response and I had to call back again to find I was on schedule for 15 Feb. I receive a phone call on the 15th from local installed saying it was too wet. Said I had to call back 800 number to reschedule. I call back 800 number which said they would expedite ticket and hear something in a few days. Going on a week and no call. I am exhausted. AmeriGas is the worst company I've ever done business with in my 43 years on this earth! I am still waiting for a delivery that I ordered almost 3 weeks ago! Every time I contact their terrible customer support team, they flat out lie to me and tell me I'm on the scheduled route for that day and to expect a call from the driver soon. They did this to me 3 days in a row! One support representative refused to put me through to a supervisor, telling nobody was available. I completely understand that two days of light snow slowed deliveries, but come on, it's just a couple inches of snow, not ice. Besides, it didn't snow until day #13 of waiting for my refill.
Excuses and lies is all you will get for your money with Amerigas. There are still a few small town propane businesses out there that haven't sold out to Amerigas. I highly recommend signing up with mom and pop if you don't want to run out of propane. I'm making a switch a soon as Amerigas comes and picks up their empty tank, and I'll be seeking legal counsel about the way Amerigas handled themselves during this ordeal. There's no way what they're doing is legal.

Five calls over five days yielded no help at all, just outright lies - one agent gave me a confirmation number with his guarantee that fuel would be delivered in 2 hours - the number turned out to be a bogus string of letters and numbers. Promises to have someone call me to resolve the situation never panned out and when I went to cancel my account, I learned I would be charged $60 for them to come & get their tank from my yard. Find a local company to do business with. These people are either incompetent or are coached to give the run-around. Either way, take your business elsewhere.

I'm actually very surprised the service is so bad. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, but this company has dropped the ball for every delivery we've had and this last time took the cake. We have a big tank and a small tank that need to be filled at the same time, we tell them every time we need a fill that we have 2 tanks that need a fill. Every time they acknowledge that we have 2 tanks and they will both be filled and every time they fill 1 tank and start to leave and we catch them and they know nothing about the other tank, have to call and wait on the phone every time to confirm that they are supposed to fill the other tank too.
This last time we called when we were at 30% to schedule delivery and they waited 2 weeks to come and this time we didn't catch them before they left. They didn't fill our tank for our heat and hot water. We called right away (and every day since). Every day they said delivery would come that day. They even put us down for emergency delivery, and every day, no delivery. We are below 5% now, we called 3 times today. The first 2 times they assured us we would have delivery today (yesterday they also assured us the delivery would come today). The third time I called they said they will come tomorrow. I don't believe it anymore. I don't know what else to do to get a propane delivery before we run out and have no heat or hot water. Horrible service.

I paid to have the gauge repaired and then replaced on my propane tank last year - incurring repair fees and emergency delivery fees well over $500 not counting the cost of propane. I requested a tank replacement before heating season started and was given the run around before they finally agreed. I placed a refill order and even though my gauge says 20% I'm completely out. THIS gauge doesn't work either!!! They want to charge me yet another $369 to deliver and fix the gauge. NO. I AM DONE. Amerigas is now taking 10-14 days for deliveries - WHY???? If you're using their payment plan you cannot place an order until you're paid in full and by then most of us are low on fuel and cannot wait a week or two!!!
What happened to the local service reps?? Now I end up speaking to people who barely speak English and don't have a clue what the weather is like in my area. In short, this company can no longer service its clients' needs and doesn't care either. I'm now sitting in an unheated house in 19 degree weather scrambling to have more firewood delivered and praying my pipes don't freeze. THANKS AMERIGAS - you epitomize the current state of America to perfection.

Just moved into a new property. Called AmeriGas on February 2nd, set up new account and ordered to have tank filled ASAP. Tank was almost empty. Representative told me that someone would be out February 5th to fill the tank. Account set up to monthly bill cycle. No one showed up February 5th. Thinking it might be a day late, I waited. February 7th the tank ran out of gas. House is now cold, no heat in the middle of winter. Called AmeriGas on February 7th to which no one answered the call. They were closed on Sunday. Called February 8th, representative stated that there was no order for delivery. Placed 2nd order and paid in FULL amount requested by representative. Requested emergent fill (which costs an extra $200). Representative stated that the tank would be filled within the next 72 hours. February 11th, no one came to fill tank.
Called representative on February 11th. Was told by representative that the last representative we called on February 8th never processed the emergent fill (although the representative told us that he could see the emergent fill was placed but not processed) What? Representative stated that he was able to see that we were scheduled for a delivery on the 13th of February, number 11 in line to be filled that day. February 13th came and went. No one delivered the gas. Called representative on February 15th, expressed frustration that no one has come to fill the tank and that my family (4 kids and wife) have been freezing in our house in the middle of winter. Representative looked at order and stated he sees the order but doesn't understand why it wasn't delivered. Put on hold for 5 minutes.
Representative came back on phone and stated that he sees the order and has no explanation as to why we did not get our tank filled. Representative states he has accelerated the order to another department that will get back to us and resolve the order in 1 hour. Representative states gas won't be delivered until another 72 hours. Other department has not called us back. I would easily just choose a different gas company as this one has proven they are irresponsible at best and incompetent at worst. I would argue both.
My problem is I am leasing the house I live in. In the lease contract it states that we can ONLY go through AmeriGas because it is their tank on the property. In essence, you become a forced victim of AmeriGas. Whether they are incompetent or competent, you have no choice. I am very sure if the CEO of the company ran out of gas/propane to heat his house that he would want his tank filled ASAP>> so his family can stay warm in the winter. I wish I've read reviews before I signed up with this company. I'm giving it zero star. I just moved to a new place and this is only my second time that I requested delivery and both were horrible experience, should have learned the first time. I was put on hold for hours trying to get to a live person. It took forever for them to deliver. The first time I was told my tank location was too close to the air conditioner and need to be moved for them to deliver. I had to pay hundreds of dollars for that, when it wasn't a problem with the old owner.
Then the second time I placed order, I sent my request 1/9 and paid for it. After 2 weeks no delivery yet so my son called and he was told they were going to deliver by end of day. All this time I believed them that delivery was made but apparently not because today 2/4 the driver came and couldn't deliver because we didn't clear the area. They waited after the snowstorm to deliver so now we have to shovel and clear the path for them, and we're having another snowstorm this Sunday.
Why did they wait a month to deliver? Why would they say they will deliver end of day 2 weeks ago if they had no intentions of doing it and why were there no email or phone calls to apologize or at least to tell us there will be a delay. It's very frustrating and I am done with them. I sent them emails a few times in the past and I get no reply back. Amerigas doesn't care about its customers and I even wonder how they stay on business for the way they treat their customers. Very poorly handled. I never want to deal with this company again.

I have reviewed 100s of reviews on here for AmeriGas, and virtually all are 1 star! I can see why. We were with our local gas company "Tenbrooks" for over 50 years, but then AmeriGas bought them. It has been downhill since. There is absolutely NO customer service! NO person to talk to, and if you even can, it's like a 45 minute wait. They charge outrageous tank rental fees, for supposedly doing "maintenance" on our tank, but they have NEVER done any type of maintenance in all these years! The rental fees are to make up their profit if we have a warmer season and they didn't sell enough gas. We have local family-owned gas companies in our area which I will be switching to...and AmeriGas doesn't care, apparently.

I went across the street to a competitor, and was told they would get a new tank to me with gas Tuesday.
On the way home, I called Amerigas to cancel my account. After another 30 minutes of waiting, I spoke to a representative to cancel our account. I was told it was canceled, and asked to wait on the line in order to speak with billing. After waiting 20 minutes, I hung up because no one came back on the line. I expected a call back.
Today (Wednesday morning), after not hearing any news from Amerigas, I called again and was told my account had not been closed (even though I had been told it had been on Friday! I made sure it was closed, and asked again for them to pick up the tank. Hopefully Amerigas will contact me soon to come pick up their tank. My experience of Amerigas service has been poor. Especially over the last few years as they have "automated to provide better customer service".

When local people answered the calls we received great service. Now that the calls are answered by a virtual call center the customer service is terrible. We called in to schedule a fill when our propane tank was at 30 percent. 18 days later (Feb 2nd 2021) we have called every day for the past 5 days. Each day they tell us we are on the schedule for the next day. Today we were told the same. After waiting on hold for 20 minutes to speak to a representative, she hung up on us. I'm currently on hold so far for another 30 minutes and counting. Propane is our only source of heat and we now have about 3 or 4 days of propane left and it's a snowstorm that will probably not allow travel on our road for a few days. I wonder if they are warm in the call center??? Hopefully someone is monitoring these reviews and takes action. Doubtful but hopeful. Otherwise, we will be search out a new provider.

Called 6 times in last 10 days for a del. that was scheduled 1/18/21 that I set up 1/2/21. 11 days after del date, still no gas. I never carry a balance so that isn't it, and every one I have spoken to has "expedited it to urgent/emergency status". I have NO PROPANE left. When I placed the order I had 35% which is when they suggest you place an order. HORRIFIC service. I'm on an auto order where they're supposed to come to the house and automatically refill my propane tank. This is the third auto delivery where they've never filled the tank when they were supposed to, it happened in September, then in December, and now in January. They were supposed to show up last Wednesday and never delivered and when I called they told me they they would put in for next day delivery, never happened so I called on Thursday, they told me the same thing, Friday still no delivery but they told me that Amerigas delivers on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays.
It's Saturday and still no delivery so I asked for a manager who told me that they'll put in for an emergency refill and will get back to me (which I'm not expecting to happen). Like I said, this is the third time that I'm going through this with this company and by the look at some of the reviews they do this a lot with other customers. They purposefully do not deliver propane to the tank so they can either charge an emergency fee or get even more money out of you by filling now an almost empty tank.

Terrible customer service, unprofessional, wait and hold times exceed an hour. Reps are clueless, unreasonable and prices are outrageous in comparison to other providers. I had someone come check a gas leak on Dec. 31st and driver showed up 4 hours later. They locked off my tank, I placed an order and payment was made on the 4th of Jan. But they didn’t process my order til the 9th. I was then told after 45 minutes on hold it would be at least 10-14 business days before delivery arrived. I called to speak to someone and was told to call back on Monday because they couldn’t help me nor did they care to.
Finally I got a delivery after two weeks of waiting and they didn’t unlock my tank. We are the 22nd of January and I’m still waiting. 4 electric heaters going, electric bill more than doubled and my house is still only 59 degrees. I’ve spoken to multiple departments all of which have excuses and even have the audacity to blame me for the issue. I was also billed a dispatch fee of $70 and I’m sure they’ll try to charge me for having to set up an appointment to have my tank unlocked. Which by the way, it took me three days and several hours of hold time just to figure out no one ever put in my appointment to come out and unlock my tank. They are supposed to show up this Monday. Highly doubt it! My advice, skip AmeriGas all together and go with a reliable professional provider.

However, Northwest Energy has merged with AmeriGas hence why we are now customers. Sadly we have received overseas customer service which is very poor... it's been 18 days since our order and the withdraw of $800 from our bank account and still no deliver of Gas. My wife and I have been on the phone 5 different times to address the issue and why our deliver has not arrived. They have told us 5-10 days for deliver- great that works for us. (The last 3 days their prompt call center tells us deliver is set for today but it was a no show for the last 3 days straight). Then we were told 7-14 days and lastly 14- 20 days for deliver times.
Our last customer service call was the last draw. They informed us we are not on the docket and not sure when deliver might be, but offered to deliver quicker for a $200 fee....Are you joking me...! We are now without gas in our home for the last 3 days with kids in the home, no hot water or heating - I expressed this to them and they apologized and said, "Next time please call when you're at 30% level to prevent this..." Well I'm human and spend $2600 annual with you. Can you give a customer a little service. My husband called and was told it would be between 24-48 hours and someone would deliver. Saturday 1/9, 48 hours, came along and still no delivery. Called that afternoon and was told they would place an emergency delivery to fill our tank. Couple hours later and no one showed up. Called again that evening and was reassured by two Amerigas customer representatives that someone would be there that evening to deliver. Left the porch light on all night, because stupid me believed the two employees that someone was coming.
Today is 1/11 and we still have no propane. Talked to someone on the phone and she tells me there isn’t even a scheduled delivery for our house today and she would try and have someone there first thing in the morning. So again, tonight we will have no propane, mind you we have a toddler and two animals. So on top of trying not to freeze tonight, I have to worry about my water pipes freezing. Don’t bother calling them, they’ll transfer you all they want so they don’t have to deal with you. Pretty disgusting how a company takes your money without providing goods they promised.
Update: Called today 1/12 since we still have no delivery. Employee put me on hold to find my account and forgot about me until my call was dropped. Called again and was waiting to speak to someone for 52 minutes before my call was dropped again. Never got ahold of anyone. Called another local propane place and they’re sending someone over to install a temp tank until their company can come fill our actual tank, now THAT’S actual customer service. Called Amerigas back to close up our account and refund us our money. We’ll see if we actually get it back in a week like they’re saying.

The latter provided excellent, personalized service, and the one time they skipped our automatic delivery, they paid for the cost to repair our frozen pipes. They took responsibility, and they were dependable. Today, January 11, 2021, I noticed that the temperature in the house was going down. I suspected the tank was empty, and AmeriGas was not timely with its automatic delivery even though for the past two weeks, I had been apprising them that the tank levels were going down. I called at 7 AM to let them know that at this point, I had an emergency. I was met with a lackadaisical attitude and was misinformed by the receptionist, who reassured me that when the driver arrived at our country house, he would call to gain access to the house so that the furnace could be lighted.
I saw the driver arrive and leave without calling me. I immediately called our plumber and simultaneously received a call from the sales office in our gated community. She informed me that the driver had told her that he locked the tank, which meant that the plumber would not get the gas flowing. What a disaster with freezing temperatures and no heat in the house! I wanted to scream at their negligence, the lack of a sense of urgency at hand was incredible. Thankfully the driver was told to turn back and unlock the tank. I have been dealing with Amerigas for 9 months. We purchased a home in August 2020. The previous owner had a rented Amerigas tank for a basement fireplace. I contacted Amerigas to transfer the service, and the folks I spoke to were helpful and quick. 1 month later, I still had not been contacted to "unlock" or fill my tank. I called and received an apology - a tech was sent out that week. When the tech arrived, I was told that the tank was never actually locked out - just turned off. I was also told the tech could not fill the tank during his visit, and I would be contacted within 24 hours to have the tank filled. No one ever called.
Over a week later I contacted Amerigas (after very long waits on the phone each time) and told them that I was unhappy with their service and requested that they remove their tank immediately. I also advised them that I would not be paying for any of the services for "checking" or filling the tank (I received a bill for more gas than was in the tank and the labor for the tech). Amerigas agreed to remove the charges and remove the tank. When the tech arrived to remove the tank, he advised me that he couldn't do it himself and would need to wait until another tech could help him. I told him this was unacceptable and would help him. I helped him - using my tractor - drag the tank around my home to his truck.
Following the removal, I received a bill for the tech! I contacted Amerigas to let them know I did the majority of the work and would not be paying the bill - or I would be happy to bill them for my time. They agreed to remove the charges. Several weeks later (we are in December 2020 at this point) I received a past due notice for the charges. After trying multiple times and spending HOURS on the phone waiting - I spoke to someone who told me that they closed my account before the charges were removed - so they had to re-open my account and remove them. I was told by Amerigas that they would remove the charges, and re-close my account - and that I should expect a "final bill" for zero dollars.
Last week (final week of December 2020) I received a bill with a partial credit, but still had a remaining balance. 2 days later, I received a PAST DUE notice for the same bill, with a $36 late fee. I have now tried to contact Amerigas again, and received an 80 minute wait notice for the phone. I also sent an email, and a message through their website. This is absolutely ridiculous, and has been handled beyond poorly. I would not recommend ever using services from Amerigas - while the people I spoke to were all very kind and polite, the company as a whole is very disconnected and does not properly care for their customers - at least not in my experience.

Similar to other complaints on AmeriGas - I am a prepaid, AutoDelivery customer in Cornville, AZ (lows in the 20s-30s) - prepaying so demand can be forecasted and auto-delivery so in Amerigas words, I never have to worry or monitor gas levels because they do as part of their wonderful customer service. On 12/13 the level of gas triggered an order -- and since then the order has been PENDING. Last week it went to 13% so I attempted to call and on hold for hours multiple times and the website said as an auto delivery customer if I do check and it's under 10% I should contact the local office. So, I tried and tried with no success.
Finally on Saturday when the tank read 7% I got an answer from a service rep in VA that was kind but could offer no assistance except to escalate the delivery request. And she did say I could call the 24/7 emergency number if I ran out. She could not tell if delivery trucks would be running in the area but knew many areas would have delivery trucks on the road. Sunday the tank ran out of gas, we found a "youtube" video of what and how to respond and shut things down to try to maintain a safe environment. I also called the emergency 24/7 number on hold for over an hour, twice, and gave up.
I woke up today thinking great it's Monday and my local office will be open in Camp Verde and they will be able to tell me if my delivery is in queue and if I've shut everything down correctly so my daughter and her friends can take a cold shower safely and use space heaters they had to run out and buy to cover for Amerigas because their auto delivery processes failed and the delivery they triggered 12/13 was still PENDING. Unfortunately, it's the same old thing -- called the local number and been on hold now for 45 minutes and it sounds like it routed me back to that same centralized call center that won't be able to tell me anything more than the poor information provided on my account delivery page - Delivery Pending.
As a customer of any service, I normally grant some grace especially in this crazy time of pandemic and unknowns. However, this is completely unacceptable service that should have processes in place to manage spikes in demand and still keep commitments to those consumers that followed all of their guidance to PREVENT running out of gas because it takes a lot of energy and time from the CUSTOMER (ME) clean up the mess Amerigas made -- it is not an easy process when the tank goes low and they lock things down -- need to be home, need a technician to come out and check everything, cold showers, no heat....
I did notice they named a new Customer Engagement VP in October. Hopefully she will take actions to put proper and deserved customer experience processes and practices in place before they can't recover from all these negligent behaviors. After being on hold for 48 minutes their system cut me off and it was the emergency delivery option - ridiculous service continues.
From the other complaints listed it doesn't sound like Amerigas takes any accountability on the mess they've caused and others are out time, energy, money -- I'm not expecting to have to pay for anything for this situation of mine to be remedied. Amerigas needs to step up and make things right. I certainly hope there is a different process in place for the elderly or those Americans that are in bitter cold without any gas. Just completely unacceptable service all around.

Previous owner had an AmeriGas account which we were instructed to open a new account as accounts do not transfer. We ordered gas to be delivered which we were told we would receive a call from the delivery person a day prior. We never received the call. The propane delivery happened while we were not at home. We received a notice on our door that the tank had been filled and were charged a large sum of money only to find out they locked our access as a safety check still had to be performed. I have now called several times for this safety check and the only time I even get through to someone is when I state I would like to open a new account (otherwise I am on hold for hours).
Finally was able to order a rush on the safety check, again no notice of a service tech (which I was told I would receive). A representative just arrived (4 days after my call) and could not do the safety check, said he was here to fill the tank and not authorized to do safety checks. Told me I would have to call again, after he had just hung up the phone with the safety check technician who told him he could not do the check. This is the WORST service I have ever experienced. Local Amerigas business offices do not have a customer service line which is causing a lack of communication between the customer and local propane delivering technicians. Amerigas bought out a small town propane company that we were satisfied with, and Amerigas removed staff from the local business office (in the excuse of COVID) and instead gave customers a poorly functioning web portal and long wait corporate customer service phone line that is useless. We are required to be a Will-Call customer since we don't live at the property and a gate has to be unlocked in NC, so we have been trying to arrange a delivery since 10/26/2020.
We live 3 hours from the house that uses propane and waited on hold for over an hour each of the 6 times time that my husband and I tried to iron out the delivery situation, we even made trips to the house more than once in attempts to meet the driver there and still no one delivered. The last excuse for no delivery was “They ran out of gas”, and of course we did not receive a phone call to alert us they were not coming. In the meantime we found another family owned local company that could deliver a tank full of propane in 2 days and at a MUCH cheaper rate than Amerigas quoted ($1.95/gal versus $2.67/gal). The basic problem is there is no staff employed by the local office to help satisfy customer needs and notes go in a computer system that are not seen by the drivers or technicians. Even the staff at our new company could not get through to Amerigas to inform them of the change in service.

I have had the WORST experience ever with them! If anyone is looking for a propane company, do yourself a favor and pick ANY company besides them! When we bought the new house, there was a tank of fuel. Apparently on Oct 15th, they locked my tank. I've never dealt with a propane company before so on the 16th when my hot water heater and dryer both stopped working, I just assumed I was out of propane. I called that morning, had them switch the account into my name, and paid for 96 gallons of fuel. I was told they would come fill my tank by the 23rd. On Oct 29th, they finally came and filled my tank up. However, it only took 23 gallons and no one notified me. I checked my account and it didn't even show that they charged me so I had no idea they had even come out. By this point, I have had 3 conversations with people there at Amerigas and no one can tell me what is going on or why I don't have propane.
The following week, I talked to a lady who told me my account wasn't set up correctly so they didn't switch my equipment over to my account but it is locked out and she is expediting my request to have it unlocked to a manager. Last Tues, I finally got another lady on the phone who told me she doesn't see any request on my account but again says she will expedite it to a manager and I should hear something the next day. By Monday of this week, I still have not heard anything from them! I called again and waited on hold for an hr and 15 min only to be hung up on as soon as someone answered. I then left horrible reviews on their Google page, website, and left messages with corporate.
Finally, someone calls me back from corporate!! Again, the lady says she sees where the account was set up incorrectly, she is going to correct it, will have the request expedited, and I should hear from them within 24 hours to have my tank unlocked! Tuesday rolls around and no word from anyone! I call back multiple times Wednesday but I can't get anyone on the phone. Thursday I finally get someone on the phone who says word for word the same things the last people have told me but tells me it will be DEC 7TH BEFORE ANYONE CAN COME UNLOCK MY TANK!!!
Keep in mind that by this point I have now spent almost 10 hours on hold waiting to speak to someone over the last 5 weeks, they refused to refund me the excess money I overpaid since I paid for 96 gallons but only got 23, and I still have NO HOT WATER!! Again, I'm told I will hear from someone on Friday and they rearranged schedules to have someone come unlock my tank! Today is Sat. Guess what I still do not have???? No phone calls! No tank unlocked! And a 2 year old that is beyond pissed that he has to take a quick bath again in cold water!!!! I am beyond livid with how this company responds.

We purchased our home in 2010 & kept the lease on the AmeriGas tank from the previous owner. Never had an issue and we were always happy with the local folks providing excellent customer service. Fast Forward to 2020. On 10/23 I called for a fill up on our 288 Gal tank & was told it would take roughly 7-10 days. On day 10 (11/6) I called again and was told we weren't actually scheduled for a delivery (HMMMMMM...) but the customer service person would escalate our request and have a field supervisor call within 1-2 days. No call was received.
On 11/9 I called again asking for an update on delivery. Again, was told we weren't actually scheduled for a delivery (REALLY??????). The nice customer service man in North Carolina was going to escalate our request and we would have a delivery in 1-2 business days. Well, no delivery was received. Yesterday (11/11) we called a local company (who the neighbors rave about) and have a new tank scheduled to get here when our AmeriGas tank gets low enough for the switch.
I am a little disheartened to know that getting AmeriGas to pick up their tank might be as frustrating as asking for a delivery (probably worse since we left them). If that's the case I am hoping we can find a legal way to get rid of the eyesore after a period of time, once it's removed from service on our property & set aside.Let me reiterate. When we had a local office with friendly folks we could call & talk to...and have friendly delivery drivers, everything was perfect! I wonder, what ever happened to those folks...Did they lose their jobs & become victims of corporate greed?

Updated on 02/23/2021: We finally extricated ourselves from this evil company and recommend anyone considering dropping them to pull the trigger now. Why? Just read the other reviews: they’re all true and we experienced a little bit of almost all of them. We inherited AmeriGas with house purchase. When the local office was operating we were delighted with the service and kept them even though the price per gallon (LP) was higher than others. That changed when UGI Corp devoured the formerly customer friendly AmeriGas.
Long story short: they shut down ALL local offices nationwide and put everyone on their “hub and spoke” scheme which means one phone number for 1.7 million customers. Now you will be waiting 90+ minutes…just to get suddenly disconnected. The call takers are almost all recent hires and they know NOTHING about operations (same with the chat line). They will tell you that your frustration is due to COVID. In their frustration they will tell you that they are doing something to either schedule you or fix an overcharge, but in reality the order never seems to go through. Read these reviews: UGI is gobbling up others (Heritage, Blue Flame) and now thou 1 star reviews are coming in. A class-action lawsuit must certainly be on the horizon. I wish I could tell you how we got out of their hideous web but I don’t want to get some REALLY good people in trouble (AmeriGas folks from the old days). God Bless Them!
Original Review: Needed service troubleshooting. I have a % remaining gauge that may be un-reliable on the propane tank AmeriGas is leasing to me. They used to have a local office, which is why I went to them when I moved here. AmeriGas decided to CLOSE all of our region local offices and push the customers to the worst telephone and on-line chat system I've EVER USED! 91 min wait time for phone conversation (gave up). On-line chat was worse: at 1305 I logged in and was told I was number four in line. AFTER HALF AN HOUR I WAS NUMBER ONE...WHERE I WAITED FOR ANOTHER 65 MINUTES! The chat operator was clueless! SHE REFUSED TO CONFIRM IF SHE EVEN UNDERSTOOD WHAT MY PROBLM WAS! I had to dig up an old phone number to a regional manager from my email to get any action. If I hadn't had that I would have been ignored by Amerigas because they could not be contacted!

I have been an Amerigas customer for almost 20 years and have an underground 350 gallon propane tank. I was not sure that the gauge was trading correctly and did not want to run out of gas, so I asked for a technician to check it before ordering any refill. An appointment was scheduled for a few days from that date, but the next day a tech called me and said he was two houses away, asking if he could do the inspection "right now". I was home, so I said yes. He arrived within 5 minutes, checked the gauge by tapping it, said it "jiggled" and the reading of 70% was accurate, and left. Ten minutes spent, at most.
I received a bill a few days later for $2453.09 ($59.99 for the "service dispatch charge" and $171.97 for "service labor", plus tax). I feel that this charge was extremely excessive (I was only informed about the dispatch charge with possibly more IFF service was indicated - it was not). I called them last Friday and waited for over an hour on hold, only to eventually be told that their office was "closed" until Monday. Today is Monday and I cannot reach them, either locally or nationally - having been hung up on three times for each.
This is the WORST customer service and USURIOUS CHARGE I have had someone try to inflict upon me in years. I am a Surgeon and MY fees are much less than that, especially since the tech was right next door and no "service" was needed. THOSE SEEKING A TRUSTWORTHY AND HONEST PROPANE SUPPLIER SHOULD PROBABLY LOOK ELSEWHERE. This is not the only significant problem I have had with them over the years either, the last resulting in my developing pneumonia and subsequent hospitalization due to loss of electrical power (I had a propane-powered generator), heat and utilities during/after a hurricane with multiple unfulfilled promises of delivery. I write this because the company has been totally unresponsive to my attempts to rectify the exorbitant billing issue. If need be, I will take this to court for resolution as a matter of principle.

On October 26, called again because no delivery and was put on hold for 45 minutes. Their CS reps are very rude. Was told I would receive my delivery within 72 hours. I was so mad at the long wait time and the no delivery that I began looking for another propane company. I found one and when I called Amerigas again to cancel the delivery, I was put on hold another 40 minutes. I requested a refund on my pre-buy and was told I would receive it in 3 to 5 days.
I called today and found out there were no notes about a refund or my call. Then the person I was speaking with told me she was making notes but guess what, no notes were found when I called again because I didn't believe anything Monica was saying. Finally, I got someone who said there were no notes made about my conversation with Monica. All this just trying to find out what happened to my refund. This gentleman called billing to find out about it and supposedly it was mailed out 2 days ago. We shall see. Hopefully I will never have to speak with this people again. Most of them are complete liars.

There are no words for the loathing I feel for this company. They are Uncaring and Unresponsive to put it mildly. They CLEARLY don't care about their customers and have ZERO customer service ethics. We ordered propane deliver on Oct. 9, 2020 via their website because "the response time is faster". ETA for delivery, within a week.... being as how it's "just for cooking" I figured I'd enjoy the break from the oven for a week, no big deal. A week later, still no delivery so I called customer service line (they were very friendly but basically ineffective). I was told that the had tried to make a deliver the Monday following my order...
Now, work with me here, when a company gives you a window of a week for delivery, wouldn't you sorta EXPECT a phone call to confirm deliver address, location of tank, any animals that may be out and impeding delivery as well as time expected? Nope... No call, not even a tag saying that they'd been here - total fail on their part. The customer service rep was sweet and said she'd "expedite the order" to get us up and running. When I went on the website a day or so later, the ETA for delivery was yet ANOTHER FREAKING WEEK OUT, making it now a TWO WEEK ETA... LIVID, I called Customer Service yet again (keeping in mind that when you call you are guaranteed to be on hold for AT LEAST A HALF HOUR). I actually drove to a client's house, chatted, cut her dog's nails and came home all while ON HOLD. Again, the rep was very sweet and understanding of my anger and diffused the situation quite well, again, promising to "expedite the order"....
Well, here we are, almost a week later and... you guessed it... still waiting. I emailed CS this time, as I really am NOT in a good frame of mind to actually speak to anyone... I told them to come and get their freaking tank if they don't want my business... Naturally, you can't talk to anyone OTHER than the Customer Service team when you call so forget trying to talk to someone who can actually give straight information on delivery schedules.

We recently moved to the area and had scheduled for AmeriGas to come out and run a line to install a gas stove. They called to reschedule because the installer that was supposed to come had left the company. They wanted to schedule me out 3 weeks and they suggested another company that could possibly do it sooner. I called the other company and they came out and performed the install. I called Amerigas to let them know the install had been done. They didn't cancel the appointment and sent people out to my home to do it, we turned them away and told them it had already been done by another company. When I log into my Amerigas account, I see an invoice for $1016.75 for the installation that was never done.
I called numerous times and after waiting 45+ minutes spoke to about 10 different people that gave me vague information, that they needed a supervisor to approve the credit, that the person that had come out to do the install had closed out the work order but had failed to inform that work had not been done, that they would call me back, etc. It has now been over a month and the bill is due and has not been corrected. I have also sent numerous emails with not a single response. They need to correct this error and not hold me liable for something I didn't purchase.

Updated on 01/14/2021: This is the worst company ever. They gave lousy service, wouldn't come fill the tank, lied several times about delivery times and then called and said I had to prepay before they would come out. If they had said this in the beginning it would not have been an issue. Now I have cancelled because of their non performance and they want to charge me $70 to pick up the rental tank that has 8 months of rental left on it. Run from these people.
Original: I bought a house that had Amerigas propane tank. I tried to have it refilled and the said it would be 5 to 10 day. Two weeks later called again, each time on hold for 30 minutes or more, and was told it would be there that week. A week later called and couldn't get through so I sent an email to customer support everyday for 3 or 4 days and finally they called me. I was then told that since I didn't set up a credit plan with them I'd need to give them a credit card number they would then charge and would then come out in, you guessed it, 5 to 10 days.
I explained I would pay with American Express the day they delivered or use check or cash but I had no desire to have them involved with my credit. They could not understand why after not delivering fuel I would not give them my charge card so they could bill me and I should trust them to deliver in 5 to 10 days. They seriously wanted me to trust them that after paying they would now come out. This company is a joke, run away to anyone else.

Since Sawyer gas sold out to Amerigas it has been ALL downhill. The new accounting department is staffed by totally rude incompetent idiots! On Aug 25, 2020 we received a letter from a collection agency demanding we immediately pay $164.78 that was delinquent on our account. The sad news about Amerigas is that the $164.78 that they were demanding we pay was paid on June 26, 2020, two months prior to their demand letter! Their customer account portal confirms this and yes, Amerigas, I have printed copies of my account from your web page to prove this.
The bill for the $164.78 that they claim was delinquent in August 2020 that was actually paid in June 2020 was not sent out by them, per their own customer account portal, until May 25, 2020 and paid a couple of weeks after it was received. To top it off when I called our local office and ask to speak to the management about this the manager refuses to come to the phone and I held for over 30 minutes waiting for them!
The final kicker is that the morons from the collection agency are now calling both my wife's and my cell phones demanding payment NOW for a bill that was paid 2 MONTHS BEFORE they ever wrote this first letter. When I called the Amerigas headquarters in PA thinking that maybe only their field offices were staffed by cowardly idiots who refuse to deal with customers, even though they crow about how CUSTOMER SERVICE is their NUMBER ONE concern, their headquarters staff only wants to dismiss the problem and refuses to issue a letter confirming that I owe them nothing, that I have never been delinquent in paying my bills with them, and that their accounting department has screwed up in referring my account to a collection agency when no money is owed on that account!
Customer service at Amerigas means screwing the customers and then calling that servicing them! Our tank was refilled only 1 month ago but I can promise Amerigas TODAY that I will run that tank dry and have another company come take it out of the ground and replace it and it can sit out and rust until my yearly rental, which was also recently paid, and that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I EVER spend another $ with Amerigas!

Worst utility company I’ve ever had. Service is atrocious. Prices are grossly excessive. I would give ZERO STARS if I could. That’s what this company deserves. A few people in the local office are nice on the phone. The delivery guys are ok too. But they’re rates are out of control and apparently they can change whatever they want per household. My neighbor and I were on the same “will call” program, got deliveries the same day, requested the same amount (100 gallons) and he paid $3.something (he couldn’t remember exactly and has since canceled his service after I told him what they did) and in that same day same situation, I paid $4.70/gallon. The answer I got from the manager and I quote “it takes the customer to reach out and inform you that something is wrong for you to catch it.”
After finding out what the alleged market rate in my area was $3.92 someone from their office tried to call me and tell me that the market rate was exactly what I paid, $4.70. I told her she was a liar and not to call me again. The only person I would speak with was a manager. Overall my opinion is that this company takes advantage of customers, their response time to anything (whether it be a delivery or a simple call back) is pathetic and I seriously don’t know how they are still in business ROBBING people.

I also told her I cannot even use the gas fireplace and would appreciate if they would test the fireplace and show us how to turn it on, like TECO does. She got very angry and argumentative and insisted the one time they delivered - my husband signed so they must have already done that. When I explained that the tech never came inside and my husband just signed to accept delivery, she got very mad and refused to speak about it further. My husband and I needed our propane line checked as we were installing a full home generator. I called AmeriGas and set up the appointment and was told I would receive an email quote. The quote never came. I called several times trying to get the quote. I was told my request was being escalated to management and someone would call me...never happened. The quote still never came. I had to call multiple times to receive a quote, and FINALLY, two days before the work was to be done, I was given a verbal quote. The amount was just under $600. I thought that was a bit high, but when I checked with my generator people, they said it IS a little high, but not outrageous.
So the day came for the work to be done. I work night shift so I was trying to sleep. My husband was given an invoice for just under $1200!! I was livid! I could not imagine how the bill was twice what I was quoted for a very easy job. I couldn’t call until the next day (Friday) so when I called, the customer service lady saw the $600 quote (or so she said) and said, "No, that is what your bill will be. Just wait until your bill comes in the mail and it will all be worked out." The bill came that Monday, and you guessed it....it was nearly $1200.
I called first thing this morning to make inquiry yet again, and somehow this customer service representative cannot pull open my notes, which is really strange because Friday, the lady allegedly could read and verify everything I was telling her. So now, again, I wait for a call from a supervisor that will never come. My notes were probably erased. They never did send me a quote, so it’s their word against mine...what kind of horrible company treats its paying customers like this? It is absolutely despicable.
We are in the same boat as all the other reviewers. Completely at their mercy unless we buy the tank. We were told when we settled on our house (we built in 2004) that after ten years, the propane tank would be ours and we could go with any company we wanted. Again, not true. The business dealings of AmeriGas are shady at best and I do NOT recommend them. Their prices are high, they do not give written quotes. They do not honor their quotes, and they don’t call back. Time to bite the bullet and buy our own tank.

I was a customer of AmeriGas, for 15 years. If you have the opportunity to use propane at your residence, do not contract with this company and if they already have one of their tanks on site, do yourself a favor and have then remove it, and invest in your own, it will be well worth it. They have these payment options you choose each year, and tack on a $125 "sign up" fee. This is every year, regardless of how long you have been paying them for over priced propane. They estimate your usage and always cover themselves by estimating high. That way they can use your money all year long, and then apply your credit overage to the next year and make you feel like your bill is going down, but it really isn't.
After 15 years at the same address, I recently moved out of state. I cancelled my service December 3rd, 2019 and had a credit of $671 in my account. They said it would take 6 weeks to "process" my return. Seriously? In this day and age, it's going to take 6 weeks? I called after 6 weeks and they said it was still being "processed". Meanwhile, they kept sending me invoices for charges to my account for services I had already canceled. I called again after 8 weeks, and was given the same story about "in process", so I called the corporate office, since the regional office in Hagerstown, MD was just "BS ing" me.
The corporate customer service rep. (Shella), was very apologetic, and said that within 3 business days, I would receive a call from either Steve **, or Joseph **, who were Regional Directors, and they would personally address the fact that AmeriGas was holding on to my $671 credit, while sending me past due invoices for payment. I was never contacted by either of these "corporate professionals". More weeks went by and I called corporate again. I was told that "this was a matter to be handled by the local office in Hagerstown", and they were the ones responsible for processing the credit I was owed. How pathetic.
So, back to square one, I called the local office in Hagerstown and was told, "your credit is being processed", and you should receive your check at any time, as they verified my new address for the 5 time, since December. In conclusion, I did receive my credit for $671 in March, 2020. Do yourself a favor, steer clear of this utility racket. I used to think the phone company was bad, but they are angels compared to AmeriGas. Hands down the worst utility company I have dealt with in the 11 residences I have lived in over 9 States in this country.

Amerigas filled all 3 tanks 1 month ago & this month they've locked the tanks and left their customers without heat in the middle of the winter. I would not recommend Amerigas. I'm having all 35 Amerigas tanks removed from my property and will go with a different company.

We went with AmeriGas because the price per gallon at the time was reasonable. They said as long as we take a certain amount of propane there would not be a rental fee. We ordered propane during the summer and paid for it right away. A month later we received a rental bill from them. We called them and asked why and they said we had signed a contract, which we never received, saying they could charge us a rental fee if they felt like we didn't take enough propane. We have a 1000 pound tank and filled up. We asked about the contract & they sent it to us after we filled up. So we said we would pay the rental in payments for 12 months. They are now saying we are late in paying & have been tacking on late fees. We will use what we have in propane & go somewhere else for propane. Very disappointed in this company.

First started with AmeriGas almost 20 years ago. Finally got fed up when during the coldest part of the year they refused to come to fill my tank. Was completely paid up but they lost my refill request and then told me I would need to reschedule the delivery and it would be at least 10 days for a delivery to be made. Called Fallbrook Propane and they came out the next day, removed the Amerigas tank, installed their tank and filled it.
I called Amerigas to come and get their tank which was in my driveway. IT TOOK THEM 6 MONTHS TO GET THEIR TANK OFF OF MY PROPERTY!!!! I had called for them to get it at least seven times or more. When they FINALLY took it off my property I thought I was done with them. A couple of weeks later, I received a bill for the "removal". So I sent them a bill for 6 months of storage. We are currently at an impasse. Every bill that they send me, I send them a bill. Plan on taking them to small claims court if they pursue this. Do NOT let them put a TANK on YOUR PROPERTY!!! You will NEVER be done with them!

I’ve had them for 4 years because Their tank has been on my property since I’ve purchased my land. I’ve had nothing but issues from the first day with them. Was told my first fill up would be 1.00. They charged me 2.45 for the fill up. They’ve sent me bills and sent them to collections when I’ve had a zero balance on my account. I’ve been mailed random fees during the summers when I’ve had no balance on my account.
I’ve scheduled for fill ups and they told me it would be 7 days before I could get a fill up. They didn’t come. I had to call a month several times trying to get a fill with a zero balance on my account. Ran out of heat. Said that for an emergency delivery which they messed up they will have to charge me fees.. In my experience if you have a choice I would never recommend this company to anyone. They have absolutely no idea what they’re doing in the office. Also I’ve called them probably 20 times and their manager Always happens to be out of office.

I switched to AmeriGas and they gave me a great sales pitch. I signed a contract and as long as I used a certain amount of gas within a year, there would be no tank rental charge. However, right after a fill-up delivery, they sent me a tank rental fee bill. When I called and explained I had a contract with them and if I used the designated amount there would be no rental fee for the tank. I was informed that the minimal amount was increased, so the contract meant nothing. They can just change the terms with no notification. So, I paid the rental fee, but I took no more deliveries until the full tank was pretty low.
I called today to have the tank picked up and that I was discontinuing service. I now have to pay $59.99 to have the tank picked up, no refund for the remaining gas in the tank, and, here is the real kicker. I have to pay an additional $89.00 because the tank has more than 5 percent gas in it. I will gladly pay these ridiculous fees just to be rid of this company. I have learned a valuable lesson..... Buyer beware even with a contract.

I'm so thankful for that, but after reading the reviews from your customers and how terrible they are treated blows my mind! I called to get LP gas from you. I was told that the gas would be $1.03 a gallon, and that someone would contact me through my email to schedule a time come out and check out my yard ECT. No one ever contacted me. A week passed and no word so I called you. I was told you would not deliver gas to me in my RV even though it was stationed, and I would be here permanently. I asked why in the world did they take down all my info, and tell me they would come out of they never had any intentions to do so. They just said sorry.
Well, I got myself all worked up and called them back...I told them that was terrible business practice and they shouldn't treat customers or anyone like that. She told me that they are the biggest LP gas company anywhere around. You know what! You might be a big co. Today, but if you keep abusing your authority by treating people like you do, you won't be worthy to even be called a company!!! You should apologize to all your customers treat. Them with respect. We were with AmeriGas for over 6 years. In the beginning they were a great company, after 3 years we had propane delivery. Somehow we feel the valve was damaged because within day you could smell gas outside house and after just having a fill up we lost close to 40 gals of propane. Call them. The guy comes out and tells us it was because the weather turn cold and something shrunk in valve. My husband called office to see if we got any kind of refund. Start talking to local office. They transfer him to office in California. He was on phone being transfer around with us losing and their dumb excuse on what happened. No they were sorry. Just this is how it is.
Two years later a delivery was made with 8 gals of propane with a tack on of HAZMAT fees and some other charges. We did not ask them to fill. We were on a thing where they on their rounds in the neighbor would check and if we were down to certain amount they would fill it. Again round of phone calls and they did amend the bill. In the last two years the price of propane double where other companies in this area are around 3 dollars a gal. They are 4.78 a gal. We called to see if they could match other companies or come close. No was their answer, so we called and changed company. This happen 8/ 22 /2019.
As of this date we have not received our refund. The office workers and managers keep saying another 10 days and they will see what they can do. Never a real date and this is 10/10/2019. All we have receive is snotty attitude other than one lady in that company. And we have talk to local and out of state and sent emails and contact thru the web. Also If you cancel services you don't get a refund on your yearly fee or the propane left in the tank. The customer care is atrocious to say the least. I would avoid this company like the plague. I called AmeriGas this June after receiving a postcard from them in the mail.. I called them 3 different times so as to see if I would get the same prices and information of what would be expected of me through all 3 people on different days. Well, after talking to the manager in their office 60 miles away, I decided to go with them as they offered a cheaper price from the current company I was using. They delivered the tank and I waited a couple of days for the driver to bring propane. He did not leave me a bill but said the co. would send it. Holy Toledo!!
On the invoice they added a regulator price of $200 extra. I was never told I'd have to purchase a regulator. The 3 people, the mgr, driver or installer NEVER mentioned it. I called the other propane companies in the area and none of them charge for a regulator when renting their tanks. I quickly paid for the gas they provided on 8/7/19 along with obscure taxes, but not for the regulator. Another inv. dated 9/7 came (which I received 9/14) they added a late fee which brings their balance to $258. I WOULD TELL ANYONE THINKING OF USING THEM.... I inherited Amerigas via a buyout of a local propane company. I had no choice of course so I thought I would give them a try. Being a business person of 43 years, I understand the nuances of sales and sales methods. To be fair I thought I would give them a try, after all I was with the former company for nearly 23 years. I did a lot of research mainly through word of mouth via working in a business for 32 years. I found that my propane cost me much more than the several local suppliers. The tank rental was more expensive, the office was slow to respond and they charged me $65.00 to pick up their tank.
I understand them being indignant to be rejected but the pickup charge is a policy that seems to be the common thread of their mission statement- Extract the maximum, while keeping service levels minimum. Bottomline, I can no longer afford complacency when excellence is available and discounts are offered elsewhere, not just on opening fill, but throughout the life of the account.

I've had a 120 gallon tank for about 7 years with AmeriGas. I primarily heat with wood so I usually only have it filled once per year, but sometimes more. It has always been that if I got it filled at least once they wouldn't charge me rent. Last winter I got a bill for around $150 for rent. I called to make sure that because I was buying propane I wouldn't have to pay the rent and they informed me that didn't matter anymore and I would have to pay the rent anyways. I ended up paying the rent but not ordering propane because it was super expensive. I finally just decided to cancel my service with them and asked that they come pick up their tank. They now want to charge me $59 to pick up their tank.
The new policy on tank rent and the $59 charge are evidently part of a new service agreement. I told them that I never agreed to their new service agreement, and they informed me that because I had paid the rent last winter I automatically agreed to it. So basically the rent was a bill that I didn't need to pay and shouldn't have paid because as soon as I did I was agreeing to this! They could have make the tank pick up fee one million dollars if they wanted to! Unfortunately I'm stuck paying the $59 fee, but I hope anyone reading this will look to someone else other than Amerigas. Aside from what I would call unethical behavior they have also steadily increased their rates much higher than anyone else in the area. I can actually go buy gas from Tractor Supply for my grill at a lower price per gallon.

Like another reviewer if I could give negative rating I would! I hope they go out of business. They have a monopoly on the market which makes them feel they can treat their customers like poop! Amerigas continues to be a greedy company. We have had a propane tank on our property for 10 years, just for a gas fireplace. It is a 124 gallon tank. Since we only use it for our fireplace, I am a will call customer. All of their policies state not to call for propane until you are at 30%, which we rarely get to. At one point they surcharged our propane so much we had a 500 dollar bill. And they stated that this was because we use it so infrequently. Why would we keep a service that will surcharge us over 400% market value for propane we barely use?
It's an extra fee if you call on the phone to order propane instead of online. Even during non-peak times they threaten delivery could be up to two weeks out. There is an extra fee for checking for a gas leak annually. An extra fee for lighting the pilot. And now most recently they have added in their contract that no matter how many times or how much you fill if you have their tank on your property you get charged a rental fee annually. So, basically every single policy at Amerigas only benefits AMERIGAS....NOT THE CUSTOMER! I find their customer service appalling, I find their service slow and inconvenient, and I find their policies to be selfish and atrocious. Avoid them if possible. We live in Virginia. I can read from the reviews this is happening all over the country.

Then 2 years later we are all of a sudden getting late fees for a bill we never received and so we called them, said to come get their tank because we no longer want their services because of the incompetence and then they took 4 month's to come get their tank and then they said we have to pay for those month's even though we weren't even using the tank and had another company install a new one and then they charged us for picking up the tank and for them to come get it so they said we still have to pay the rental fee even though we didnt have it but those 4 month's after the bill was sent and then I was also told that we wouldn't be responsible for the rental fee once it was picked up but they are still charging us the full amount not for the 4 month's it sat in my yard not being used and plus it still had fuel in it. We paid for that. We couldn't get back. I would never recommend this company to anyone as they don't care about anyone. They just want their money no matter what.

We purchased a home in Custer, SD three years ago. The prior propane service was Custer Gas, a locally owned and operated company. Then the big corporation AmeriGas bought them and there has been NO service since then. We attempted to continue to use them but a call to their office got either no answer or a machine that said to leave a message. We would leave a message and no one would ever return our call so when out of gas in the winter, you just had to freeze, I guess, is their attitude. Last year was when the real problem began. A tank OWNED BY THEM, became non compliant with filling according to an inspection by their employees in the summer of 2018. The employee told us we would get a letter from them outlining what we needed to do. We never received a letter, a phone call, an email, text, - nothing.
During the middle of winter the tank ran out and a fill was called for. At this point they informed us they would no longer service the tank as non-compliant. When speaking to the local manager, he told us the previous manager knew there was a problem, but ignored it and decided to fill tanks no matter. The new guy refused to do so but no one communicated this with us until mid winter when the tank was empty. We contacted two other propane companies in Custer, SD, but they couldn't get a new tank in for us for two or more weeks. So we had Custer Gas, aka AmeriGas Propane, bring out a new tank. They claimed the old one, which they put in, couldn't be taken out by them so they placed the new one quite a bit above our property and laid the line above ground until summer when a trench could be dug to bury it.
We called them in July and were told they did not do trenching, it was our job, but they would come and bury it. My husband dug a trench down to the place where it connected to the house and noticed the copper line above ground there was bent (not by us) and noted propane was leaking from it! Guess what - we called Custer Gas and no one answered the phone! No answering machine, no employee! So we called their headquarters and told them what was going on. They had someone call us and said he would send a crew in the morning. The kicker was he asked my husband why he was trenching and he said because local office said they wouldn't do it and he said they DO trenching!
The serviceman named Kevin came the next morning and told us he would have trenched for us. He also said he had to put some propane in the tank as it was empty but we wouldn't be charged for that as he had to test the line. Ten days later we get a bill for the install AND for the propane. Now Kevin, their great employee, accuses us of lying as he says he never told us there would be no charge for the gas. If you are reading this long story and even thinking just a little bit about using this companies service - DON'T!!!! McGas in Custer or Nelson Gas and Oil provide great service and don't accuse their customers of lying.

I have had good service with the local company, but a policy that is an industry practice which they enforce needs to be brought forward to potential customers. I believe is unfair and inappropriate. I am exploring alternative heating fuel source and what I found out from this propane dealer is the following when I cancel service. When they remove the tank the follow charges apply: $150.00 gas pump out fee if the tank has greater than 5% propane remaining. The customer does not receive any credit for the pumped propane; it goes into a storage tank and the company resells it to other propane customers. This practice is wrong and apparently an industry practice; however, it does not make it right in my opinion. $149.00 +- truck charge to remove the tank, $60.00 +- driver charge. In summary: $360.00 +- tank removal fee if propane pump out is done and ZERO credit for pumped out propane.

So I went with Amerigas. Boy what a mistake!!!! On 4/19/19 a delivery driver pulled up to refill my tank. When he backed into my driveway he smashed my driveway from the weight of his truck. He exited his vehicle and immediately said "I screwed up". He didn't back up, centered onto my driveway. His left rear tires were all the way of my driveway. I have been in my home for five years, of those five years I have been a customer of AmeriGas on two separate occasions. In the 2015-2016 heating season I used Amerigas, and had no issues, even when I switched out the next year for a competitor with a cheaper price. Thought they were great at the time. In the 2017-2018 heating season, I went back to Amerigas because no one could match their offered price. When speaking with the rep from the local office he said NOTHING about a new change in their terms. When I called in September of 2018 to try and lock in a good price for the season, I was quoted $2.19 a gallon, (I was paying $1.29 for the prior year) when everyone else was quoting $1.69 for the current year.
I was also informed "there was no more "lock in's" left available". Never have I or anyone I have spoken to heard of there being a cut off on the amount of "lock in" prices available to customers. The rep also told me my contract ended in October of 2018, so I still had my current pricing available. I opted to get one last fill since it was less then what everyone was quoting me. Anyone who uses propane knows you shop for the cheapest price. So when I was told almost double what everyone else was quoting and I could not lock in my price I decided to go somewhere else. I informed the rep I would be getting one last fill but being they are quoting $2.19 a gallon I would be shopping around. Again he said nothing about a change in their terms.
Mind you our "contract" was all done in email, never did I get a letter in the mail about a change and my "signature" is the rep filling out the papers, including my name, and me emailing back saying, "Okay." So I went to another company. Used up the gas in the Amerigas tank and swtiched to the competitors tank. I stored the Amerigas tank on my property empty until April 2019 when the snow thawed and the ground was solid enough to drive on. My account showed a zero balance due as of April 2019. When calling to let them know they can pick up their tank, the same rep I spoke to before now informs me that it is fine. I want to leave but there is a $149.99 charge for early termination of the 3 year contract!! I argued with that rep and another in the office over their intentionally misleading me as I would NEVER lock in a three year contract for propane. Told them to forget it and leave the tank.
Then called back 20 minutes later, after looking at the "contract" and not seeing anything about a three years, told them to come get their tank off my property and I will fight them in court if need be. A month later, now May of 2019 their tank was still sitting on my property, so I called the corporate office and told them what was going on.
They had the rep call the next day, he again tries to hit me for the $149.99 for early termination. I again argue with him, he keeps telling me "calm down, we will get this straightened out" and he has a copy of my "contract". Told him I also have the "contract" and I would never agreed to three years. Point out again the rep said NOTHING in September 2018 about a three year contract. He claims "the service contract is not the same as the price contact", this is also a new one to myself and anyone I have asked (even competitors). He emails me the "contract" and also lied and states the tank is still on my property because he thought I was going to keep it per our last conversation.
After searching their contract, they have it stuck in the new terms that they have a three year contract, their changes were sent to junk mail, not once do they make sure you know they changed. They also stated in their new contract that if you use their service for one month, you agree to the new terms (also predatory for those who just lock in for the year) I email the rep back (the same one who said we can work it out) and tell him I see where they put it in the terms and per our LAST conversation I said to come get the tank. (That has been in my current providers way for months.) He responds back that on top of the $149.99 fee they are also hitting me for $49.99 dispatch fee for getting their tank off my property. They came out Friday 5-10-19 and got their tank, the driver lied and said he could not get my signature.
I watched him walk up to my door fill out paperwork, stick it in the door handle without even trying to knock, play with my cats and leave after busting branches off my apple tree that is not even next to the propane tank. Then Tuesday 5-14-19, my billing app informs me I have a past due bill for $209.29 for Amerigas. The rep deliberately charged and put the bill due 5-13-19 (there is no due date on the papers the driver left), so now I have a past due bill with them. I have been fighting with them for months and I am now going above them for their predatory practices with their "contract" and for the retaliatory practices of their local rep. They deliberately give you the lowest price to get you to be a customer, say nothing about a three year contract and then double charge you after the first year and if you try to leave they hit you with high fees. Stay far away from this company if you can.

Amerigas, I think, is the worst and greediest utility company I have ever seen. I bought gas from them for years. When I did not need gas anymore, they insist of paying tank rental which I have never heard of. I suggested that they remove their tank from my land, they say, I have to pay for the removal and they will not repair the damage to the land. If the tank is theirs then they should pay for the removal. If it is mine then they should not charge rental. This is a policy to extort money from customers. I have been paying rental year after year to no end and they keep increasing it. Is there any way out? Any legal minds or consumer protection agency out there who want to figure out this policy of greed and extortion?

This is the worst propane company on the planet. They always charge more than they quote you on the phone so I bought my tank and started getting propane from a competitor. Then they bought out the competitor and said I have to pay them (AmeriGas) tank rental as well as buy my propane from them again. After spending hours on the phone with these ** and never getting to speak with someone with a brain I finally just paid their extortion so they can't destroy my credit. If the rating would allow negative numbers that would be the score they received from everyone.

I would suggest anyone needing propane to go anywhere except to this company. They give you an excellent starting price but beware this soon goes up to almost double of any other company. They charge more for the rental of a tank and will charge you if you want to call in for propane. They charge other fees that the other companies do not. I switched companies and the one I am now with calls when prices go down in the summer months so you can fill your tank while it's cheap.
Amerigas never did this in all the years I used them, they are only about making as much money as possible. They claim they charge so much because they have trained technicians, well so do the other companies and better propane, when they get their propane from the same place as other companies. Check out Pirate Gas, that is who I went with and am so happy, just wish I would have done this years ago, instead of thinking that all propanes companies were pretty much the same when it comes to pricing.

After a series of missed appointments and billing issues, Amerigas backed their truck over our sewage tank and crushed the top despite having been warned not to back-up near the house. They took no responsibility, and refused to pay for $7,000 worth of damage. The company used to be locally owned and operated, Synergy Gas, with good service. But, they were purchased by the larger Amerigas, which is a terrible provider. Please find and support a local company - try Crown Propane or any other number of providers. This is not a credible company.

My years of dealing with this company, at least 5-7, had been mostly positive. There's a different driver than I had previously. All of my past experience was approximately 200-250 gallons for the entire year. I paid for a total fill in October last year (80% of 250 tank). In January I had to have them back for another 100 gallons, then last week (only 2 months later) the tank registered 28%, so I ordered another 100 gallons. Today the guy delivered and I realized he isn't the same man that had been doing delivery prior to last fall. After he left I went to the tank and took the receipt he left. The receipt shows the starting point of 25% which is correct; however, the receipt says that the ending fill is 65%. The gauge CLEARLY says 55%, a difference of 10% or 25 gallons short!
I called the company and the woman said I have to talk to the driver because she wasn't here. I have taken pictures of the receipt and the gauge and offered to send it as proof. Again, she said I will have to talk to the driver. It appears the driver has shorted me, possibly on the last three deliveries based upon prior years usage, but I have proof of this one. I will be changing companies as soon as I have used this gas, and will not pay for the 25 gallons he shorted me that I have evidence of. At $3.19 a gallon, plus taxes and fees they add, I calculate it's a overcharge of at least $85-90 on this delivery alone. I thought it was strange that I needed gas again so soon, I believe it was short on prior deliveries. But, I can't prove those.

When we bought our house, 9 years ago, the previous homeowners had an in-ground tank installed with a local family owned propane company. They sold to AmeriGas and we have been getting robbed ever since. My neighbors get propane at $1.52 a gallon (from another propane company), AmeriGas is currently charging us $3.99 a gallon!?!? Not to mention a $400.00 tank rental if we don't purchase enough propane each year. If we refuse to pay, they lock your tank and shut it off. We are basically stuck paying extreme prices, no matter what we do. If we want the tank removed, we have to pay for it, and the ground testing also. They offered to sell us the tank for $6,000.00! In order to have heat and hot water, we are stuck paying extreme prices. Frustrated in PA.

I live in the Rockies, in Gilpin County. Neighbors and friends kept warning me about using AmeriGas. I couldn't get a clear picture of the problems outside of the fact that their prices are really high - about a dollar per gallon of gas above local competitors. I went with AmeriGas, because they always seemed pleasant and willing to work with you when winters drove monthly gas bills over $500. The problems I ended up having, besides the annoyance of technicians never leaving delivery notices, was the false promise of assistance in offering a "payment plan." I thought I was making a 3 month plan to get caught up by Springtime, when propane bills lessen considerably and are nonexistent in the summer months, while maintaining my service. The customer service rep pleasantly offered this "special arrangement" as if the company was providing a viable option for getting through the winter months with their exorbitant prices.
Instead, I later learned that after arrangements are made, the company stops delivery until the 3 month plan is complete. I asked the rep how I was supposed to get through 3 months without propane in single-degree weather. I asked him how this payment plan was of any use to me, since they would be cutting off my propane regardless. His answer was that the company didn't want me to keep getting further behind until I was buried under and the bills were too high. I explained that propane was seasonal and there was the spring and summer to get caught up. He didn't have an answer. There is no benefit to the customer in getting on a payment plan other than wasting paper and time. I'm still going to be sitting in an unheated house in the dead of winter. I was so disgusted by this that I scraped together the $762 and immediately contacted a significantly more affordable competitor. Goodbye AmeriGas!

AmeriGas customer service is terrible. They do not notify you when they are delivering. I prepaid for propane, and the delivered it. They said my tank was empty, when it wasn't, so they could charge me more. They disconnected my line, and placed a lock on a tank that I own. They are forcing me to pay them to come and remove the lock and do an inspection so I can heat my home. The idea of extorting a family, withholding access to heat (that was paid for) in the winter is unreasonably cruel. They will hide behind the idea they care about my safety, but I bought gas from them. They don't own my system. They had no right to disconnect it. They have lost my business, but I cannot pay a competitor because they locked my tank.

The rudeness to customers has always been a problem for last 9 years BUT this latest issue?? I have a buried 500 gallon tank about 70' from the house. I had my son go over lift lid to check gauge, he commented he smelt gas. I walked over and being a senior citizen could faintly smell it with my old nose. The % was at 22%, which was strange because it was at 60% just 3 weeks ago and I usually get about 1% a day. When they called me back in response to my email that I may have a possible leak the girl said they would come out immediately and lock it out. I asked why can't they just check with sensors to see if tank, gauges, diaphragms were leaking. She said policy is to shut off??
I said I am at hospital with severe dehydration of flu, and cannot be home for an hour because they need to take blood also. Now I am a senior citizen, in the hospital and they are going to shut the gas off to my house in the middle of winter with below freezing weather. When I got home the gas was locked out and my heat was off. I was left a message to call the following day so they could come out to look at?? So here it is. Midnight temp is down to 57 degrees already, I am multilayered sweaters trying not to freeze to death worrying my water pipes might freeze and burst, while having the shakes from a fever from flu wonder how this policy makes sense?? If it was a leak in house but outside, why could they not check leak outside and fix repair or say fine and leave my heat on??

This company is horrible in customer service and customer care. Among numerous issues I have had with initial setup, their contract is basically a clean slate for them to charge you whatever they want. The contract tells you to contact your office for tank rental fees, and when you do, they still don't commit to a price. They don't tell you the minimum number of gallons you need to purchase or list the tank rental fee on the contract so that they can charge you whatever they want, because the contract says that they reserve the right to change their fees at any time. That is Bull Crap. We, the customer, agree to pay, but the company is not upfront about what the charge will be.
Specifically, when I signed up a year ago for the service, I was told that I would not be charged a tank rental fee as long as I ordered a minimum number of gallons each year. The minimum number was never established and there was no tank rental amount listed on my contract. I received an invoice this week for tank rental and when I called about it was told that the rules had changed and that tank rental would be charged every year regardless of the number of gallons purchased. THAT IS NOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR!!! They did not send out renewed terms, nor was I given an opportunity to reject the new charges. They removed the tank rental fee for this year because there was a note in my account when I called back in Dec 2018 about refills and tank fees.
I was told then that I might get a fee but the second delivery of propane should meet the min requirement and if I did get a fee they would remove it. The customer service rep I spoke with told me that the ONLY reason he is removing that fee is because of the note already in my account. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere!!! But if you decide to do business with them, ensure that your contract is filled completely, keep all receipts, and take notes and names during EVERY call with them. Better yet, correspond with them only via email so that you can have a paper trail! SMH!!!

After I told him what I do for a living I took the regulator apart and showed him the torn diaphragm. He then asked why I didn’t repair it myself (their regulator mind you) and then proceeded to accuse me of colluding with another AmeriGas employee to create this leak. I called seeking information on payment plans and the woman I spoke to said we were not able to have a payment plan, as it was a one time thing- which we apparently took advantage of in November. We are expecting a snowstorm this week and our tank is at 15% and now I'm trying to figure out how to heat the house if we run out.
I called around town and a local business (Owen's Energy) is only charging $2.35 per gallon or $2.29 for military- which we are. Here's the deal, these people have been charging me 3 times as much per gallon for propane. I am like my bill is triple what I should be paying. I noticed a bill for over 1100 dollars for propane fill. Why because the per gallon was over 4 dollars per gallon plus a bunch of fees.
Other companies are charging half that price. I am ok with companies making money but they darn well know this is morally wrong/but hey they are not regulated and its capitalism at its best. Now that I know it's up to me to find a company with better ethics and moral. But guess what. They own the tank, and Nancy quickly told me I would have to pay to have it removed (thousands). What a rip-off, I mean really, what kind of customer service is that. She offered to lower my bill by half but that is not the point. I have to call to do this. They know this too high for a customer to pay.
Why why why would any company do this. It's because they are large and don't care about a few customers being pissed off. The Execs at the company set in a board room and said, "Hey this is how we can get a few more dollars." And they know several customers will sign up for autopayment and forget this exist like me. I am in search of a new company, I will pay to have the tank removed so I never have to deal with them again.

He got an attitude and told me he would go out later and check it and proceeded to tell me there’s no leak. Well please explain to me how I’m filling up my tanks for the fourth time since November and it’s only January!
The supervisor is a JOKE! They don’t care about their customers. The last time they came they overfilled our tanks and charged us $615 but quoted me at $230 to fill just one tank which is what I asked for. Called the supervisor cause I’m on week 2 and 1/2 and my gas is reading at 20. It’s -1 degrees outside. She told me even though he overfilled the last tank and it’s their fault there’s nothing they can do. We have to pay out remaining $500 and another $300 up front to get our gas filled. So in the past almost three months I have given them $1,800 for propane.
When I told her I should not have to pay that off right now, that past due balance was their mistake she didn’t wanna hear it. Funny how I called pro gas and with two new tanks a gauge and to fill them both up is $455.
