I haven’t had their service but over a month. They have 3 invoices and all different amounts owed. Say that I can get on a payment plan but only for 1 invoice so I did and bam give the first payment plan amount and still had 2 other invoices with amounts. So they put me on auto-pay and took the amount out for them 2 invoices and still are taking out within 2 days my payment out which shows on the site I am not on auto pay.

So have given me over 200$ in overdraft fees. Plus no office in my state to go in and talk to someone face to face and on the 800 line nothing but non-English speaking or understanding Americans on the phone and all they do is say sorry which don’t help when you're being lied to and taken advantage of. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Please read all reviews I so wish I knew of this site before I had them the stress and headache is so not worth it in my life. Thank you to all and so sorry we are all going through this. Hopefully there’s something that can be done.

Updated on 02/27/2023: I highly advise anyone looking for a propane provider to NOT use AmeriGas. They have been the worst company I have ever dealt with. They did not come to fill our tank in the middle of December. We had to find a local company to come in and install a new tank as a result. I have been waiting 3 months for AmeriGas to pick up the old tank from my driveway. I've called at least 10 times and get one of 2 responses: they either give me another artificial date in the future or they say that there are low staffing levels and they aren't picking up tanks until summer. They have closed every local office, and I have absolutely no recourse on this issue. Meanwhile the AmeriGas tank is littering my yard and I am getting complaints from my HOA. Every other propane provider out there is by far a MUCH better idea than AmeriGas.

Original Review: This company does not keep commitments on delivery schedules, it doesn't communicate changes, it doesn't update information on the website. I have had to call every day for the past 10 days and each day they tell me I'm on the schedule for that day and the day comes and goes and they don't show. I have no way to reach a local dispatch group. I'm calling a Call Center that likely isn't even located in the US, let alone, my region. I strongly discourage anyone from selecting this company for their propane needs.

Let's start with the website. It is simply not functional. If you want to order a gas delivery and your account is setup for auto delivery, you cannot. I had to call and speak with two people to get a delivery scheduled. I had to explain that their automated system failed, and it took me a third call to get my account setup some I could just call for a delivery. Now, on to their support. They seem not to understand the business and are completely unable to help you when you have an issue. "Lip service at best".

Amerigas you have been a horrible experience for my family and I. My tank was at 0% and on my account it said I was at 31% so I called and the lady I talked to first put in an emergency order and was told it would be delivered the next day. I have called every day since and all they can say is, "Sorry and it will be there tomorrow," even received confirmation texts that the delivery is scheduled for the next day. My family and I going on 9 days without propane. 9 days without being able to make dinner at home. 9 days without taking a hot shower. 9 days that my family and I have to wear extra clothes cause we have no heat in the house, and in an area that gets below 30 at night and it snows around this time.

Was promised delivery is on its way and will be there by 6 pm, called at 6:30 and delivery office is closed. Called customer service and they now told me that they're sorry and if it wasn't there by tonight it will be there early morning. It is now 7:30 pm and still no gas. Very disappointed with this company and my experience with them. 9 days without propane after placing an emergency delivery. Shows how much this company cares about their customers and their family. If I could give no stars on this review I would. Will be looking at changing gas companies very soon. AmeriGas you have lost a customer and I will never recommend any of my friends and family to you.

I order gas on the 15th with a delivery scheduled the 17th-21st. No delivery, I tried calling the office numerous times and was placed on hold, set the phone down, after 2 hours still no answer. I finally got gas from another company that delivered the next day. It’s pitiful there’s an Amerigas station in town and not a single person is there. Can’t call anyone and they answer the phone. I talked to a Amerigas driver, the stories of how the company schedules deliveries and customer service is awful. Their management should be fired, this message system to communicate with Amerigas is crap. They’ll be out of business soon, I know I’ll never do business with them again.

My parents, who are seniors, last had heat on 12/25. My parents live in the North East where it has been frigid the last several days. The temperature in the house dropped to 40 degrees overnight and only rose a few degrees during the day. The company that services the heater came on the morning of 12/26. The heater tech said the issue was low pressure from the propane tank. The assumption was the gauge may be frozen as the propane tank said 70% full. AmeriGas's offices were closed on 12/26, so I called the emergency number. I was told the first available service date was January 4. I said there was no heat, and January 4 was not acceptable. The AmeriGas customer service rep said she would mark it urgent and call back in 1.5 hours. I called back, and another rep took my information and said she would escalate it.

Someone called later on 12/26 and said there was no tech available, but they were working on the matter with the local district management. That's the last update I got from AmeriGas. I took my parents to a hotel on 12/26 as the house was too cold to stay in. On 12/27, I called AmeriGas several times, as did my brother and mom. Each time we were told no techs were available, and now the earliest service date was January 16. No one seemed concerned my parents had no heat and could be like that for 2.5 weeks. I asked if there was another local company they could recommend that could come to service the tank if it was just the frozen gauge--this got me nowhere. The tank is rented, so other companies contacted said that only AmeriGas can service it.

My dad used the petroleum prepay option, which is on automatic delivery. The only delivery this year was in August; the heater has been on since October. The house has no hot water. The temperature has climbed into the upper 40s today, and if the problem was a frozen gauge, it could have thawed out and restarted the heater. My dad adjusted the tank level to 0 and requested expedited delivery. Both my dad and brother were told someone would be out today and give 1 hour's notice so someone could be at the house.

It is almost the close of business, and no one has called or shown up. The delivery status says "still pending." I don't understand how a company that provides the method of heating houses can say sorry, out of luck with having any heat in the winter for 2.5 weeks. Reading other reviews, this company seems to be okay if customers don't have heat in the winter, which is genuinely astonishing and dangerous. I wasn't even offered an alternative, just the constant phrase, "we have no techs or service dates available."

    1. My son has severe neurological sensory loss (he can't feel his hands and feet). While away at school in cold climate and living in an RV, we called to get refill. It took WEEKS and multiple phone calls to get refilled. He was living in 10-20 degree weather with no heat except a space heater. It was DANGEROUS for him to live in these conditions.

    2. The customer service is equally bad. What a mess. Service reps make up whatever you want to hear. After taking months and 4 follow up phone calls, they finally closed the account (the tank had been disconnected for several months). I was originally told I would get my deposit back, but instead I just received a $300 bill via email with wrong service address. Customer rep said she didn't have the invoice and they refuse to put me through to supervisor without my saying I am staying on the line until I can speak to a supervisor.

After trying this 3 times, she "checked her resources" and now could see my invoice (wow, amazing). I said I would not continue working with her and again, would wait for a supervisor. This happened every time I tried to get answers from the. Such a despicable administration and customer service practice. I plan to report this all to the utility board. The problem is, you really have no choice on the company that services you with gas.

We went through -25° weather was told 4 days in a row that our propane was to be delivered by end of day. We were above the tank percentage and not requiring a leak test which is $289.00 after four days of them not showing up. We called multiple times. They listed it as an emergency. So it would be delivered. Now 5 days later, they're saying we are below the percentage and have to pay $289 leak test. Which we wouldn't have to if they would've showed up when they said. And now they also want to charge $300 more onto of the $800 for the propane. As an emergency fill. So our $800 propane will now cost $800 + $289+$300 now. And they still haven't delivered the propane. They have constantly lied about delivery it.

Today we called and they didn't even have it scheduled to be routed here. This company is an absolute joke. They lie, and make you wait intentionally until you're below the tank percentage so they can charge you the extra $289.00 and when it gets below 5% they charge you the extra $300 as an emergency fill. How is this company still in business. How has the attorney general allowed this to continue. Residential propane is a heat source and should not be allowed to be held until you're low enough to charge you extra.

Finally started calling the Emergency Leak number which seems to be always American's answering. Always polite and saying they will see what they can do, but after 3 calls still no gas. First time they said driver was in the area and I needed to be home, so I took off work early to race home....no show. Second time they said order was never scheduled, but they would expedite and have out next day....again nothing. Now saying there was a problem with the truck and they have moved my order to "management" and someone "may" be out today or tomorrow. They won't give you anyone to call in your area and keep feeding you won't you want to hear.

Already out $1500 in fees for site review, delivery and initial set up just 6 months ago. Now looking at another 400-500 to terminate the contract and have them pick up the tanks. After seeing literally thousands of similar complaints online this week, I can't believe this company has not been investigated for fraud and breach of contracts/services by the federal government. This is a billion dollar company that deals with a product that should be considered a public utility based on its usage. My next step is to pester the state attorney general's office enough that they will at least investigate, and then find a way to sue them locally through small claims court....even not winning there will be satisfaction knowing that they will have to pay a local attorney thousands to represent them and prepare court docs to try and dismiss.

RESULT: No call, came 3 days after they promised. As a result I was not there so they could do the safety check so they left the propane interrupted with various dire warnings if I were to turn it on myself.

12/12 - Promised the safety check would come 12/14 very first thing (I emphasized I was leaving on a trip and was now delaying my trip until 9am on 12/14 - they said no problem it would definitely be done by that time).

12/13 - Called to confirm the appointment and was told I had no appointment scheduled. The customer service rep was very polite (as all have been) and offered to schedule an appointment on 12/16. I pointed out that I would be on my trip at that point and that I had been promised an appointment on 12/14. She said there was nothing she could do - 12/16 was the earliest appointment she had.

I pointed out that this was the 6th time AmeriGas had promised something and failed to keep their promises and that I needed to speak to a supervisor. Multiple (!) times she tried to tell me that 12/16 was the earliest and that the supervisor was busy and she couldn't get through and it would be better to just accept the 12/16 appointment. Multiple times I pointed out that I no longer believed what customer service was saying because of the evidence (see above). Eventually after a long (!) wait she came back for the 3rd time and told me the supervisor was unavailable and offered to give me a callback "within an hour". I gave her my number and got her name and am now waiting for the supervisor callback. I don't expect to get the callback, but I will follow up here one way or the other.

During the winter months Amerigas is not able to keep up with the demand. They ask you to put in orders 1-2 weeks in advance and then take well over 2 weeks to fill those orders. Just this year this has resulting in me running out of propane and forced to go without heat. Once I do run out of propane I call and make an emergency delivery. I am told they will deliver within the next 24 hours. I do not receive a delivery in the next 24 hours. It usually takes 2-3 days.

The company is a national company, there is no local office to talk to, the only phone number they have will put you in touch with a call center that is trained to upgrade your delivery to emergency status and promise 24 hours. They are unable to manage the logistics of their schedules and they do not hire enough drivers. I am not a person that writes reviews. I can usually shrug off minor inconvenience or facts of life. However, the amount of negligence (or incompetence) on display by Amerigas is staggering.

Amerigas has allowed us to run out of propane twice in two months this year, so far. We are still early in the season for cold weather. My tank may have a leak in it, but that is beside the point. It is the woefully unsatisfactory customer service that is the gist of this review. By weird coincidence, each time our tank ran out this year, it has been at the end of the work week. Each time, I immediately called the call center to expedite delivery, with the call center promising an emergency delivery within 24 hours each time. Have we ever gotten our promised emergency delivery within the promised time frame? Um, nope!

In the first incident, the truck finally came Monday evening, after I ran out of propane on Friday afternoon! The driver was curt and rather surly, but I remained polite, that time. He filled the tank and then checked our furnace and water heater for function. That was all well and good. However, as of the writing of this, I have been out of propane since Thursday evening. It is now Sunday night (11:30 pm PST) and a truck has yet to arrive, as promised after I called each day for three days in a row, to no satisfaction! I have had no hot water for about 96 hours now. That's four days! It's winter here now. I have more than 8 inches of snow on the ground in my yard and more keeps falling! Thankfully I have a wood stove and some space heaters, or the house would be completely unlivable right now.

In each case, I called the company daily after the promised delivery failed to materialize on the day before. Each time I spoke with the call center, after waiting an hour each time before someone finally answered, by the way, I was again promised that a truck would be dispatched for an emergency delivery, to arrive within 24 hours. Each time, the truck never materialized on any of those days since I ran out. In this latest instance, I fully expect it to finally arrive sometime late Monday, or Tuesday, or maybe Wednesday, or even Thursday, if it ever shows up at all!

This company's customer service has become a nightmare! We've been customers since 1996. We have never had this problem until the past few years, in all the years we've been with the company. Lately, they have let us run out of propane at least once each winter for the past three years, and now I'm out of gas twice in two months, with no recourse but to wait for the driver to make a delivery on his schedule, not mine! I am done with Amerigas! I'm going to a different propane company after this horrible experience. If I could rate less than one star, even that would be too high a rating!

I am trying to help resolve my Dad's gas bill and called Amerigas billing department. 1st they are in India in a small office and you cannot ever hear the person on the phone. 2nd they do not even understand your concern or question. I refuse to pay a bill for services they charged him for and they never resolved it. The gas was leaking from day one and they will not refund the money for the gas that went in the air b/c of their incompetent workers can't do their job. The initial inspection is suppose to be a check and pressure test. Will they said they showed up before my dad was there for the time they told him, then they needed to get in to check the furnace. The tape ball was still on the end of the pipe. They never checked and they could not get in the house b/c they came early (as they said).

We called them back 25 days later b/c he was out of propane, What? 700 gallons gone. Then they left a note the tanks were leaking (do they even check them before they leave the site). So my dad is stuck paying for their leaking tanks. So I climb under his trailer to check pipes and everyone is leaking, but they did a pressure check on the pipe to verify. Why would anyone pay a bill for no service (they fixed nothing) and no gas (most of it leaked out), We are more than wil.

Customer for over 10 years. They used to be exceptional but now... Ditto the other reviews about no service and promised 24 hour delivery. Despite the fact that I am supposed to be on contract for fill ups when my tank reaches less than 30% (it is monitored by their signal device). The moment it ran out I called and was told that I would be placed on emergency service and would receive a fill up with in 24 hours. I called again next day. Was told the exact same thing. I would receive propane within 24 hours. This exercise in futility was repeated again the following day and was told the exact same thing by a third person that I would receive my delivery within 24 hours. Repeated again and you can imagine what transpired once again. I never did receive any call backs or concern. Asking for a supervisor is like mating elephants. A lot of trumpeting and noise and done at a high level but it takes 18 months for any results.

I could have stood behind cattle and collected the methane from their farts faster than Amerigas delivered. After seven days of no delivery I finally called another company for an emergency delivery. My tank was filled and I have started a new business contract with this new company. 16 days, half a month later while I was out of town an unmarked delivery truck from Amerigas topped off my already near full tank. And had the audacity to leave me a bill for the 30 or so gallons they delivered. I don't think so. My advice - use any company you can besides them.

I have been promised six different Emergency tank refills with NO RESULTS!! The first request for a refill was 10/4/2022. I was at about 15% at the time of the first order. I have been a customer for over 12 years (after our local company was purchased by AmeriGas). Soon after that purchase occurred I noticed a tank rental fee that had never been there with the previous company. I should have complained about this at the time but unfortunately did not. I recently found out that I owned the tank and should NOT have been paying any rental charge. That is only the beginning of the AMERIGAS NIGHTMARE!!

The final straw was countless hours with so called customer representatives who could not or wouldn't transfer me to a manager. I drove down to the so called local office to see what could be done as I was down to 5% gas with no hot water heating or cooking ability, for my family who was coming to visit over the Thanksgiving holiday, the ALL had to stay at a hotel. Which I paid for because they flew in from all over the country.

Again the 6 promises of "Emergency deliveries" were disregard every day promising to be delivered the next day ...THAT NEVER CAME! Since then I have changed companies and had next day delivery from two EX AMERIGAS employees who were gracious enough to tell me that I owned the tank and that they Quit AmeriGas because the company was SO POORLY RUN. PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES as I did!! AmeriGas needs to be held accountable for their (at best) DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR! Shame on AmeriGas. We called and were told it would be delivered on November 18th. Again, no one showed up. We called and were told that a repair or replacement of the tank was needed and a new delivery date of December 5th was given. Because the tank was now below 10% we asked for an escalated delivery and WE HAVE A VOICEMAIL stating the tech will be here today (11/28) between 9-12.

At 11:45 I called and was told there was no service request in the system. When I stated that the company that serviced our previous address did not charge us until delivery, I was told the service agreement states in advance payment is required. I asked to see a copy of the agreement to determine Amerigas responsibility and they ignored my question. I asked numerous times for the complaint to be escalated to management but I was repeatedly ignored. Meanwhile, we were being told that they were pulling a tech off another job and we should expect him shortly. No phone calls, no follow up and at 4:15 the tech is still not there. Even after his visit today, if he shows, propane will not be delivered until whatever repair is needed is done and they will likely try to charge for that for a tank they own. The only thing I can say about Amerigas consistency is that they have been consistently BAD from top to bottom, beginning to end. And holding our $611 hostage for 2 months by the time this is done.

Ran out of propane, I am on a fixed delivery, the last delivery was June of 2021. Ran out November 18, 2022, called Amerigas they said they checked it in September of 2022 and it had plenty of gas, seems odd that two months later I have 0%. They scheduled me for an emergency fill within 24 hours, three days later still no call no fill. Contacted them again today via phone for the 3rd time, after I explained to the agent my frustration he said we had a bad connection and there was an update to the system and to call back.

After 4 phone attempts I thought I would try the chat, got a little further but makes no sense to me how my tank was too full to fill back in September and 2 months later I am empty. The person had all the excuses you can think of, I asked for the date, time and % the tank was in September, crickets...So, I finally wrote on the chat I wanted to cancel and for them to come pick up the tank, amazing how fast they responded with your account has been canceled and you will be sent a bill for $149.99 to remove the tank...Now, based on so many of your comments let's see if they actually pick up the tank and stop billing me...This is not an ethical company and I highly recommend do not use them.

While this was initially caused by a late payment, I spent over 2 hours total on the phone trying to get the issue resolved. We've been customers for over 12 years in good standing (other than the one late payment). On a Friday a supervisor agreed to set our account back to the way it was, but when I called on Monday the supervisor I spoke with on Friday had not followed through nor did he note our conversation in the files.

I spent an hour on the phone with a rep trying to resolve the issue and when asked to speak with a manager, one was conveniently not available. They were helping other customers. I said I would wait, they refused to transfer me. Really? Customer service is inadequate and unable to resolve any issues. They use canned phrases "I'm sorry you are frustrated". "I'm sorry...", but are not able to resolve issues. I wanted the number to submit a complaint and the guy actually said I'll submit it for you. Seriously? This company is really bad though and hopefully someone in the company that can make changes will read this and make something happen.

Tues - Ran out of gas. Called customer service and was told that since I was on "automatic tank fill" they would have gas to me in 24hrs. Wed - called at 3:00pm to report no gas had arrived. Was told that actually the 24 hrs was usually more like 48hrs and that I would have gas on Thurs. Thurs - called at 3:00pm to report no gas. Customer rep said they were not sure why I had not received gas. I ask to speak to a supervisor. Supervisor assured me that they had sent a message to the dispatcher and promised me that I would have gas on Friday. Fri - called at 3:00pm to report no gas. Customer service had no answers. Sat - no gas. Sun - no gas.

At this point I was done and terminated my account. They then sent me a bill for tank removal. I called customer service and complained. Customer service rep sent me an email stating that they had removed the tank charge from my account. Today about a month later the charged showed up on my credit card. This is my second time of buying a Home, that AmeriGas was the propane provider. This time has become a nightmare. Right out of the gate, the driver fills the wrong home and tank. 316 is filled and my address is 299, I'm across the street. This took three months to resolve. On the second attempt they did fill my tank, but not before asking if I had two tanks and I did not. The Driver didn't even report the tank. I found out around two months later, that the tank was leaking at the shut off valve. After that was resolved by opening the tank valve it was not longer leaking at the shut off, but now the tank had a leak at the fill valve .used by AmeriGas to fill the tank.

Nothing was going to be done about it, because the tank had leaked to seventy-five percent from the eighty and was too full to have valves changed out. I have changed propane provider, but now AmeriGas wants to charge me $149.99 to remover their leaking tank off of my property and another $159.51 for enrollment fee. They owe me $255.41 for the propane remaining in the tank. The tank was at thirty-six percent according to the gauge. AmeriGas wants me to pay them $54.09 for all the trouble I had with them. They even tried saying I had two tanks and they had filled them both, that they did not fill a tank at another address. Even to this day they still are playing the second tank story.

We had a gas leak due to what appears to be regulator failure. We contacted the company to have this fixed because it is our only source for cooking and but we were informed because there is an employee shortage so no one could be sent until the next day. It's always an excuse why they can't honor their end of the deal but you can bet if you didn't pay your bill on time they sure as hell would be all over that. So we will be switching propane providers and hopefully one that cares about their customers.

I don't think I can express how disappointed I am at Amerigas. I will try though. I have called on July 13th 2022 asking for someone to come by my house and close the gas and then put it back on after my termite tent fumigation. The person on the other line told me that I could do it myself, so I was ok and no need to schedule anything.

On the night before the fumigation tent I went to shut the propane tank. I closed one valve and the water pilot was still on. I then closed another valve, again the pilot was still on. Then I closed the 3rd valve and finally the water heater pilot went off. So, no more gas. Due to the 3 valves that I closed and my lack of experience I then researched and came to find out that one of the valves I closed is called "pressure regulator". I am not technician, but I know enough to know that I don't know how much of the "pressure regulator" should be back on, so I need an expert on it.

I called Amerigas who can only come by in 10 days. I asked for an emergency which would cost me 300.00 and finally they told me that a tech would come between 10:00 to 12:00 but no one showed up. After an hour phone call I was able to talk with the same person again and he said that they would be in my house in 45 minutes, but again, no one showed up.

I then called again, and found out that there was no ticket in place for anyone to come to my house. I must have called 5 times, between waiting for an hour on some phone calls and being hang-up a few times, this experience with Amerigas was ridiculous! I researched online again and found out that I can call and emergency plumbing company. They are the one who eventually took care of situation. The supervisor from Amerigas who lied to me is Lyan on extension **. He also put others to lie on his behalf. I will start the process of switching to electricity. This was an extremely costly and aggravating situation.

We wanted to change propane companies last year so we did and we thought Amerigas would be good. Boy were we wrong. They never one time stepped foot on our property and most definitely never provided service of any kind. But yet they kept taking our money. I have called every day sometimes multiple times daily and keep getting told the same exact thing. We have been fighting with them to get our money back and stop the “service”. Finally they stopped the so called service we had. But sure kept hitting our account every 2-3 days (I have screenshots of every time they tried it).

We have put a block on our account so they can’t access it anymore. They also said they didn’t know how money was being taken out of our account since there wasn’t automatic payments setup. I have the proof they keep trying. Since January 2022 we keep being told they are processing our refund. Today is July 13, 2022 and still our refund is still processing. I have a log of every time I have called their multiple phone numbers and they say the exact same thing. So we will be calling an attorney and police. Someone has to do something to get this business to stop going after our money and refund the hundreds of dollars they have of our money! I WOULD NEVER USE THIS BUSINESS EVER!!

The only thing done correctly was a polite delivery driver who didn't call ahead because he was not given that message. Other than that, EVERYTHING else about your company sucks! It took SIX phone calls to place a simple order. Your phone tree wasted two hours of my time. The people answering the first call dropped me and didn't call back, hence another experience with your phone tree. The second person didn't have the autonomy to help me and referred me to a third person that she couldn't connect me to, therefore a third call. Neither person spoke enough English to understand me. I was given another phone number which, after another phone tree was the incorrect number. I did get a polite young lady in Nashville, who actually spoke English, but said another department would have to make the changes. You had my e-mail incorrect, therefore I couldn't use your online website.

Finally, two separate orders were placed. One to check the accuracy of my gauges. The second for delivery. I was told this would take two separate appointments. First a service appointment, then another for delivery. Seven days later a truck shows up unannounced for my refill. However, I was in the hot tub. The driver said he didn't know anything about a service call. I had him refill both my tanks, then called to cancel the "service call". Another needless phone tree experience. When I finally got a person who spoke English, they said your computer showed no record of a service call requested.

In summary, I HATE your company. As soon as my 120 gal tank is empty I am cancelling your service. I own my own 1000 gal tank and you will never get another refill. When you bought my previous local provider you ruined all personal service. You divided every single task to multiple people, none of which has the autonomy to fully complete a customer's request. I am a small business consultant, therefore I have expertise in this area. I bill $175/hr. You owe me $350 for wasting my time trying to navigate your inefficient system. However, no amount of money can recompense me for the aggravation of dealing with your company.

Over the course of weeks, over and over. We even had the personal phone number of the employee who had installed and and would move the tank and he called himself begging them to schedule him for our job since we were about to move in!!!! We changed our request, to just fill the tank because we were then 2 weeks from move-in, I was expecting a baby any day, and we just needed to be able to have hot water and cooking abilities. I have been receiving invoices and calls that she owes $160.00 for leaving the account early.

I have all the paperwork from the beginning and I do not find a contract stating she had to be in the account for a certain amount of time. She did not leave the account early, she died!!!! She did not chose to leave the account…. she died!!! Also, they never credited for the extra gas. This is unethical behavior on the company's account and should not be tolerated. They have the death certificate. Also when she started her account I was quoted an amount for the gas and to bring the tank (lots of other little charges too). Then the next month we get a bill for a charge of $126.00 for tank rental which we paid too. This was never explained upfront. I believe the charge for “leaving the account early” is unethical (especially due to death) and should be investigated!

We agreed to pay an extra $200 for delivery within 24 hours. We called back 24 hrs later asking where they were and were told we did not get delivery due to not paying the $200 upfront (which they did not ask for). We were then told it was really $300 for a 24 hr delivery and $200 for 24-48 hrs. On hold multiple times for almost an hour.

End result we cancelled our account and told them to take their tank. So clueless about customer service that they asked why we were cancelling. Not the way you treat a long time customer when there have an emergency need. They also had the nerve to say we wouldn't be having this issue if we ordered when the tank was at 25%! We have had Amerigas for years. The account was in my husband's name but I wrote the checks and paid the bill with my money from our joint checking account. My husband died last September. I needed the tank refilled shortly after his death. The man I spoke with was barely understandable as he had an accent. He also was very rude. He said I needed to send a death certificate, a letter from the courts authorizing me to use the account. Funny I didn’t need any of those things to pay the bill or the tank rent in December. Our state offices had been hacked and I was unable to get a death certificate for months. I was finally able to persuade a girl to send out a delivery which I paid for.

Now it is June and I am out of propane and so I have no hot water. I have called repeatedly for weeks trying to schedule a delivery. I made an account and was told they would call with the delivery info. I explained that I need to know in advance because I have locked gates, dogs and 2 special needs kids who usually each have 1-2 doctor appointments every week that must be scheduled around. She did not call back. Two days later I called. 9 minutes later I’m told my ‘emergency’ delivery will be here in 11 days. She said I will also need to pay tank rent which I paid in December, an inspection fee and she rattled off some other fee but I could not understand her.

Apparently they consider me a new customer. After sending them my money for years I don’t. I miss our old local office. I would not have had any of these problems with them. Poor customer service. Came out because of a possible gas leak. Stuck his head in the tank area where you fill the tank and immediately insisted that he smelled no gas. Stood there for a while looking for flies since they apparently can detect a gas leak. After I insisted that several people had smelled gas he sprayed the fittings. I saw bubbles coming from the regulator and so did he. He replaced the regulator and used two separate set of gauges at which time he stated that the leak may be in the line between the tank and the other regulator at the gas pack.

He stepped off the distance, went to his truck for a few minutes and returned and told me that the copper line replacement was my responsibility and that it would cost $959.98. The next day I received an invoice for $289.00 for this professional leak detection using his nose and looking for flies. Been a customer for over 25 years and it seems that I am just an account number. I found another supplier and I will no longer do business with this company. There should be an option to give negative stars. This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with for anything. The customer service is so terrible it's actually shocking. You have to call back over and over until you get through to someone that actually cares and is capable of actually helping resolve an issue. I once spent an entire day calling over and over until someone was actually capable of giving me an answer. So many issues, but very long story short...I first called Dec 15th 2021 for service. I pre-paid for a 100 gallon fill and was told that first they would have to inspect my tank, and a tech would be there 24-48 hours. After a week of no technician and no contact from Amerigas, I started calling to find out what was going on. I was then told it would be a month before a tech could come out and they could not fill until the inspection was completed. As we were coming into below freezing temperatures, this was unacceptable.

After over a week of calling every day, I finally talking to someone that was actually capable of making something happen, she was able to send a delivery driver out to inspect the tank and deliver the 100 gallons. Finally on 12/31 the delivery driver came, but he filled the tank without an inspection. Apparently there was a leak, but the because they filled with no inspection the 100 gallons was gone in less than a week. I called multiple times with no resolution and no heat during the dead of winter. Almost a month later with no resolution, I had to break down and have them just come do another fill without inspection because we had no heat in freezing temps.

On Jan 20th I paid an extra $200 for an emergency next day fill of 200 gallons that was also pre-paid. Of course the delivery was not made until 4 days later, on the 25th. After multiple calls once again, they finally refunded the emergency fee. Of course it only lasted about 2 weeks because of the leak that they still have not come to inspect. That was the last fill I ordered. Now, I received a bill from a 100 gallon fill on April 20th that I never ordered and was never delivered to my house. I called to dispute and a case was opened, so we'll see how this goes.

Recap; go with someone else. Amerigas is a horrible company.

On January 16, 2022, I contacted Amerigas to address what smelled like propane. I mentioned that it might be emanating from the tank regulator. The service technician visited and said that there was no leak per his test. Following the emergency call, the smell of propane persisted. Additionally, our tank continued to empty at a rate of 10% each day, even though the thermostat was set to 55 degrees or lower. In addition to the smell of propane, the tanks leaking at an inordinate rate was an indication that the tanks were indeed leaking propane.

On March 7, we again contacted Amerigas to address what smelled like propane and determined it was leaking out of the vent (regulator)on the propane tank. A service technician reported to the house to replace the valve. I was not home at the time as I was at work. However, the technician never contacted me to let me know that he arrived, communicate the issue that was identified, or inform us of what was fixed. There were contractors at our home, and we were informed that the technician never went inside to check that the furnace or hot water heater were operable, or bleed the gas system and in fact they were not.

On March 14, I contacted Amerigas to inform them that I was not satisfied with the service to date. First, I called in a leak in January and was told there was no leak when there was obviously a leak, as the cause of the leak was fixed on March 7th. Furthermore, the technician that fixed the leak did not do a thorough job or inform me, the customer, what had been found and fixed. At that time, I requested compensation for the inconvenience and poor service. My request was a refund of a $300 emergency fee that was charged on January 15 for an emergency delivery in sub-zero temperatures, due to the fact that the tank was leaking since installation on December 22.

This was a second request for a refund of this charge, as I called in January requesting a refund. Additionally, I asked for compensation for a portion of the deliveries that we have had to date. This is only reasonable due to the fact the tank had been leaking since set up in December and noticed three weeks later in January.

The customer service agent that I spoke with on that day, informed me that the max compensation s/he was allowed to provide me was $100. However, they would escalate my request to the area supervisor. I was told that a supervisor would contact me in 72 hours with next steps and whether the request was approved. I anticipated a call from the area supervisor on March 17. I never received any communication from Amerigas regarding my request for a refund.

As of March 23, I contacted customer service to follow-up on the request and was told the following:
-The case was rectified because I received $100.
-They are unable to see the notes from any of the previous phone calls.
-They are unable to transfer me to or allow me to speak with someone who could actually approve and rectify the issue.
-They would escalate the request- although it has already been escalated and not addressed on March 14.

-When I asked to disconnect service, the customer service associate informed me that she would have to charge me an early termination fee.

I am beyond disappointed with the service from Amerigas. Primarily, my home and family have been in imminent danger since installation in December due to the leak. This is unconscionable and a dereliction of the basic service that Amerigas has charged me $2,215.26 to provide as of March 8. In addition to the safety concern, we have incurred expenses above and beyond what is reasonable due to the tank leaking and having to have weekly deliveries, emergency deliveries and dispatch fees. Finally, the lack of actionable customer service has been infuriating. I've spent hours over multiple days calling customer service only to be stonewalled, regurgitated information that I already have and having to inform multiple agents of my issue because either the systems don't allow for streamlined communication or they do not have the capacity, structures or training to rectify an issue.

In order to rectify the situation, I had to email the Vice President of Consumer Engagement in order to get anything done. Only then did ANYONE from amerigas contact me and offer to refund the emergency delivery fees, and disconnect service without a fee. They did not however, refund me any money for the consistent tank leaks between December and March. I would not recommend Amerigas for propane services. Customers beware.

I needed propane gas and set up my account, paid the monies required and was given a delivery date only to given the runaround, not know what the technician's report was when he did the inspection, have to spend hours calling in for service, constantly getting transferred to other departments, given wrong information as to why my delivery was not made, and have to wait for 20-30 minutes between transfers each time I called. After 5 attempts, I am done and will no longer be a customer of Amerigas. If they want satisfied customers they need to train their staff on customer service, get their communication loop fixed, enhance their process of finding out what the technicians told the customer, hire more staff to handle the demand so that customers are not waiting sooo long to be serviced, etc.

I rarely write reviews but my experience with this company was so bad that I felt compelled to. I have never been so dissatisfied with the level of service I have received. From beginning to end, the experience with them was horrible. Let me share some details. 1) Techs that don't show up at all for their appt. 2) Tech lies and says they came when they did not. 3) Phone rep is so rude that it left me with my mouth open. 4) Misplaced our tank then charged us $1,000 to move it, even though the misplacement was of no fault of our own. 5) Charged incorrectly for something months before our tank was even installed, then received late fees for 4 months.

    6) Had to call in 7 times to have said late fees removed, and by the way, they still haven't resolved the issue, and 7) call mysteriously "drops" every other time I call in and they make no effort to call me back. I regret the day that we decided to use them for gas. If you have any other option, I would use another company, or just not use propane altogether. It is not worth the pain of dealing with them and the hours of time and even money you will waste.

On 2/24, the first time I called, they said delivery was scheduled for that day. Second time I called, they said it was now scheduled for 2/25. After they transferred me to several different agents, I finally got an agent who assured me my delivery would happen on 2/26. Seeing as how 2/26 is a Saturday and the call center had done nothing but lie to me, I decided to brave the snow/slush covered roads and drive to my local Amerigas office to see if I could get this worked out.

When I got to the office, there was a sign on the door that said the office was closed to walk in traffic but there was a car in the parking lot and the lights were on so I knocked and knocked on the doors and the windows. Instead of coming to the door, the called the police. When the cops showed up, they did open the door for the officer. She couldn't even hear me talking so instead of transferring me she hangs up. I spend another 20 minutes waiting to talk to someone else. I finally get connected to set up a payment plan. I had made a payment 10 days before this call, I was told that payment won't apply to the current payment plan and I had to make a payment today in order to avoid fees. So now I get to be on hold for go knows how long just get to talk to someone that's probably not even in America to make a payment. They were also late on my delivery snd didn't even fill my tank to the 80% mark when I asked for a full fill. This is the worst company I've ever done business with. I was really hopeful when I begin to Any propane company out there is better than this one do business with AmeriGas. Over the last three years of doing business with them, As long as I notified them when my tank was 50% full, it never mattered to me how long they took. I’m a good customer… My wife and kids love the fireplace :-). We spend about $3500 a year with them.

Recently, my wife and I were traveling and my normal routine to check the gas tank was interrupted. When I did check it, I was down to two or 3%. I called AmeriGas for an emergency delivery and they said they would be glad to have someone out there in 48 hours—for a extra fee of $300. Otherwise, they couldn’t promise me when they would be there but anticipated it would be before 10 days. I declined, and got another local company out the very next day (without any gouging charge).

I currently have a credit with AmeriGas— because they double billed me the last time they delivered. Because of that, I left the order open. As of today, it’s been 12 days And still no delivery. When I called yesterday not only could they not tell me when they would be out, they told me interacting with a supervisor would take three days. Then, they proceeded to “educate“ me, informing me that it was wintertime and there was high demand. Of course, that’s true; however, I think they knew wintertime was coming, right? Doesn’t that happen every year? We are at 13 days, for an emergency delivery, and counting. No remorse from customer service and more importantly, no solution.

This is not a company that cares at all about serving. They obviously see propane as a commodity and recognize that my house goes cold and dark without it. Whatever their original intention, their current business model reflects their understanding that there are limited propane companies and lots of customers. Hence, those customers are treated as inconvenient and barely necessary. There are better companies out there. In fact, I would say any company out there is better :-).

I am a postmaster at a rural post office. We are contracted with Amerigas for propane delivery--this is a "national account," which makes little difference because they still suck, even with government customers. When our post office was destroyed in a natural disaster, our ancient propane tank actually floated away in a flood. That's neither here nor there, but in the stages of reconstruction, it was a goat rope to get Amerigas to come out to reset the tank. I literally spent hours on the phone, getting redirected and negotiating phone tree after phone tree, only to speak to some foreign person that barely knew English. Finally, FINALLY we got service, but it took months.

Then came the billing. I logged onto our accounts payable database, Ebuy, to pay the bill immediately. A few weeks later, I got a collection letter and a late fee. Thinking is was an oversight with the postal service, I paid the same bill and left a heads up that we got a late fee because someone wasn't paying attention. Come to find out, it was Amerigas that was not paying attention. Not only do they not have adequate customer service, but they do not even have a competent staff to process payments. I got that mess all cleared up, or so I thought...today, I got another collection letter, only this time from a collection agency. That was after I spent another couple of hours on the phone trying to sort out our billing issues, and was told that it was taken care of. Really? We aren't allowed to switch our service to another provider because I guess we HAVE to use Amerigas, but where I am in rural Utah, they are a joke.

Today is February 7, 2022 and I called at 9:15am PST. As I'm writing this, I have been on hold for 17:07, I was placed on hold by Tiana when after I explained why I'm calling, said "Let me check with customer service and get back to you". First, is there a difference between Amerigas customer service and customer experience advocate? Because truth to tell, neither one understands what either of those term seem to mean. So far Tiana has yet to come back on the line to update me on what is going on. This is yet another example of the type of service/advocacy we've received from Amerigas Customer Service/Advocate personnel.

Back on December 9th it was determined that we needed a new valve, but the tank had too much propane and needed to be below 5% in order for the technician to replace the valve. We placed an order for propane on December 31st when we got to 5% and received a text message on January 3rd letting us know that you have our order and are working to deliver propane to us. No one showed up and we didn't receive any further updates. We called on January 13th to find out what happened. Somehow our order got cancelled and Elizabeth couldn't explain why she then stated that she would put in an order for us for the valve replacement and propane.

January 19th we called since you still hadn't serviced our tank, and spoke to Maynard who said Elizabeth never put in the order and he would put it under emergency status so that someone will be out within 24 hours we ensured he also placed the valve replacement on the account for the technician and he stated that he would and for us not to worry. January 21st technician came out and apologized because his work order had nothing on there regarding the valve replacement and he didn't have one so he couldn't replace it. He did fill our tank to 10% though so we could have some heat and hot water (which we had been limiting to the extreme due to not having much propane).

Technician came back out on January 25th but we had too much propane in the tank still and he couldn't replace the valve. January 31st we were down to 5% so we called and spoke with Kelli who stated she put in a request. Here we are now February 7th and we have again been limiting heat and hot water since the order has once again somehow vanished and I'm called to try and place an order on the phone since the tank is at 3% and I can't do that online. 35:09 I've been on hold now and I'm guessing I've been placed on permanent hold and no one will ever be picking the line back up. Oh lovely, I've gone from hold straight to the after call survey. I told you I was on the forgotten "hold" option where they wait for me to hang up and since I didn't they ended the call after 42 minutes of hold time.

What a shame that the company can't seem to get people who actually can/want to do their job. You know the thing they pay them for. How hard is it to enter in a request? Maybe everyone ones needs to be retrained on how to actually do their jobs. So we have to suffer a freezing cold house and tepid showers because their personnel don't feel like doing their job. It's been in the 20's overnight for weeks now and we've had to purchase several space heaters just to try and stay somewhat warm (appreciate the additional out of pocket expense we've been forced to take on). Also, a big thank you to Amerigas for our increased electric bill. It's so nice to see how customer centric that company is.

They then rescheduled the delivery on or before 7-10 days later with no way to contact them to determine when they would actually attempt delivery next. They refuse to give us any notice or any indication regarding timing of delivery. They require freshly plowed driveway. To the tanks. Impossible to do so or even hire someone to do so without any warning, as the weather here is unpredictable, very cold, and very snowy.

Customer service consists of someone reading from a script and repeating over and over the same information that is already available and insufficient online. So, nonexistent. Then, they pretended to not hear me and tell me they were going to disconnect because the line was bad. I waited for them to hang up for over 30 minutes because when THEY hang up, the survey becomes available. If the customer hangs up, no survey. I implore interested parties to NOT hang up even if the agent states they are. Wait for the survey and tell the truth. BTW, we must leave again after calling off work two days to get the drive cleared by the promised date. The delivery still has not occurred. No other Gas company will provide gas line service or propane because of this. I find it ironic and disturbing that Amerigas will not back up their statements in writing. A sure sign this company could not care less for their customers beyond the economic value they derive from them.

I can’t believe I’m going through the same nightmare 25 years later with the same company. Years ago I had a company owned tank and called for a fill up at 30%, then 20, then 10 finally when it was down to 5 percent. I called and they said they were going to charge me $50.00 because my tank level was so low! I hooked a chain to their tank and drag it out of the way and bought my own and switched companies.

Fast forward to the present- we bought a farm with a house on it in August of 2021. It had a company owned Amerigas tank with it. The tank had a broken gauge so there was no way to tell how much gas was in the tank. After remodeling the house I called amerigas to set up an account and request the tank be repaired and filled, that was January 18, 2022. I’m sitting here now on February 3rd writing this review with a propane tank that has been empty for 3 days still with a broken gauge. I have called 5 times in the last 3 days and still no luck. Propane gas is the only source of heat in this house but apparently this company doesn’t care. If you have ANY other option for a propane gas company CHOOSE THEM because I doubt you will find a company anywhere that is run more poorly than this one!

The local retailer couldn't take it back and Amerigas claimed they weren't responsible for the tank. Fifty bucks, down the proverbial drain. The local retailer will get reviewed when I'm done here. It will be unflattering, I assure you.

Amerigas had been my propane fuel supplier for almost ten years before this recent experience. The company has changed its customer service policies. They now allow their representatives to lie to the customer in the hopes that they can forestall legal action or prevent customers quitting and going with another propane provider. Amerigas has among the lowest price fuel in my region. The problem is they cannot deliver it in accordance with the agreements, the timeline information they provide on their online fuel delivery web portal or in consideration of the changing needs of its customers, which can occur abruptly due to cold temperatures.

They want you to pay them 200 dollars for expediting delivery, by providing mediocre performance to all customers who opt for ordinary delivery. The problem is that their system logs delivery attempts, and customer service reps know and can reference these missed drop offs. When the fuel delivery portal defines a clear and concise time window within which they promise to deliver the product- that window is defined by Amerigas and not the customer. When Amerigas misses that window by days and the customer is without fuel, it is not the customer's fault, even though they have tried twice to convince me that it was mine own fault for not ordering early enough.

I have spent hours on the phone trying to ascertain why drop offs were skipped, apprise them of the urgency of the fuel situation and simply get a straight answer for my orders- all of which are PREPAID in full. They collect my money, promise to deliver, fail to deliver with no explanation or communication, ignore their own request for expedition after the customer apprises them of their urgency, lie to the customer stating that they never promised to deliver during the window which I have in print, claim that they did not expedite request after they confirm expedition with text messages, tell the customer it is their fault.

In all- they have become a company that deserve to fail and go out of business. They are essentially a utility, which American homeowners rely upon for heat, cooking gas, hot water, generator backup, clothes dryer fuel, and many many other purposes, and they act like they are doing YOU a favor, owe you nothing, never admit their incompetence and piss-poor communications. I will never recommend them to anyone for any purpose. Simply one of the worst companies I have ever had the unfortunate experience of doing business with.

Today, day 10 I was told that I am not even on the route list and if I wanted to get it delivered in the next 48 hours I would have to pay $300. I have been out of gas for 10 days now at 27 degrees, no hot water or stove top. I asked right away if I needed to stay at the hotel or with family but was assured that the delivery will happen on time. I have called 20 times in the past 10 days and each time it's a different person and a different story.

This company couldn't care less about their customers. Horrible customer service, slow delivery and overpriced. But since they are the only company providing the gas delivery we have no choice but to deal with them. I am at the point of switching to electric. It's funny how they come right away when they need to shut off the gas due to no payment. But to deliver they take their sweet time. Horrible company and horrible service.

I have been with AmeriGas for several years now. I always have to call them to try and get a better per gallon rate as they are usually the highest. Typically they will work with me when I call, but no longer. My neighbor who uses a different company, just paid 45 cents less per gallon than they are quoting me, and last time he paid 60 cents less per gallon. They refuse to negotiate now. So yesterday I asked to be transferred because I want to cancel service with them. I was put on hold three times and then hung up on at 5pm. So I called back the next day (this morning) and they hear me fine until I say I want to cancel, then they claim they cannot hear me well!

Next, they put me on hold forever and never come back to me! This has to be coming from the top brass. There must be corporate protocol to hassle customers that are trying to cancel. I am amazed they are getting away with this. And now it appears that my phone number is flagged, because I am calling and immediately being put on hold multiple times without human interaction and then disconnected! I'm going to call the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs and any other agency I can think of to report what is happening. Stay away from AmeriGas!

I have no comprehension or understanding of how this company is still in business. I, just for the first time, read all the reviews. I’ve been trying to get ahold of them for weeks, months. They tell me that someone’s coming. They tell me that they have my number. And then, they just ignore you. This one lady I finally got on the phone after months, and she promised me she was trustworthy. She promised me she was truthful. She promised me that she was gonna be the one that’s gonna help me. So on Friday, I got her number, and I got her extension. And I’ve been waiting for a call all day today, on Monday. No call. So I figure I’ll call her, at least there’s someone I can talk to. And the phone lines have no extensions. There’s no way to get in contact with her. So I guess she was lying to me too. So I don’t understand how they’re still in business. I tried calling around other places in the area, and they’re not accepting business. So maybe this industry just isn’t looking for business. I don’t know. But this is like nothing I’ve ever experienced with a company. Just don’t do it.

Around 4 pm I called 4th time and asked for a manager. The manager told me that I’m not on the list of deliveries today and on my questions about the previous 3 reps she said: “that they told you what you need to hear“. I have been a customer of Amerigas for 25 years or so. For most of that time the customer service and equipment service was great and they delivered on time when I needed it. Last couple of years something profoundly different has emerged that motivates me to write this review. They used to be a friendly, local office-based business where I was able to speak directly to customer service agents and they were empowered to do what I needed to get the delivery or service I needed scheduled. That has changed to what is now a company that has centralized all their customer interactions to the great detriment of their customers.

I found this out the hard way when I found out from my heater tech that the regulator installed on my house was not working correctly and possibly could damage my new furnace based on the sounds we were hearing. I was instructed to contact Amerigas immediately to get the system checked out and new equipment installed. It was an emergency because I had to turn down my furnace to the lowest level possible so it would almost never run and temperatures outside were scheduled to decline to single digits.

I called the Amerigas number, registered my request as an emergency and I got someone to talk to who kept breaking up but assured me they would enter an order and would call me back to provide details and that scheduling would call me also to schedule the service. No one ever called back. When I called a second time the next day, I realized I was dealing with an off-shored customer service department who had no visibility and no power to create orders, schedule, do anything but mislead customers that their issue would be handled. I was "assured" that someone would be there same day or next day.

No one showed up and I called the customer service on the third day and was greeted this time with a robotic processor who tried to get me to voice command my way to success. This was easily bypassed and I got to the offshore service agent again. I was told that there was nothing scheduled on my order or anything related to my account going on but I would be transferred to the Service Department. Well, the person who answered was very sympathetic and was very likely onshore US but was also Customer Service and had no power to do more than message the real Service Department. I was told neither she nor any customer could get through to the Service Department directly.

They were that well insulated from the real world. I'm guessing the labor shortage has a play here but not even knowing where you are in some queue for service or whether anyone is even putting you on a schedule is a really bad customer experience. Amerigas went corporate from local with their customer service and I have to say I don't find their current arrangement workable for a customer. I can't recommend this company to any new customers.

Two weeks later I received a bill. Multiple calls to customer service told me I owed different amounts and the people couldn't help me. I finally asked for a supervisor. Instead of a supervisor I received a telephone survey instead (in which I gave them terrible scores) and when it was done the call hung up. When I called back I received their "Our offices are closed" recording. I doubt if I'd recommend to my worst enemy to use Amerigas.

He said since I wasn't home he couldn't do the leak test or turn my gas back on. That was last night when it was 16 degrees, and propane heats my house and water. I told him I'd leave work and be there in an hour and he said "no I ain't doing that." Called support and they have no concern at all. Tell me they'll schedule a tech to come back and unlock the tank almost 2 weeks later. End up talking to an "advocate" who says she is sending someone out the next day (day they were originally supposed to come).

I stayed home from work so I could get my heat turned on and this time they didn't show up. I called support again and they say there is no service scheduled for me. It is even colder tonight. Have talked to 5 different people now and each keeps passing me to the next saying "oh, I'm so sorry" while offering no solution. Do not use this company. One star is not enough. I let my gas tank reach 0%, since I'm new to using gas for heat. My wife called Amerigas to get it refilled, and they said they can refill in 10 days. During this 10 days, the high is in the 40s, and the low is as low as 17 and below freezing every day. This is unsafe temperatures for a family with kids, and unsafe for the pipes in the house. For this reason, my wife pleaded with them to expedite the process, and they hung up on her. Then she called back, and they hung up again. Then I called at around 1pm, and they said they could expedite it within 24 hours for $300 and $200 for 72 hours.

I went with the $300, and I got off the call pleased. But then I noticed that I didn't get the text message she said I would get, so I called back at 6pm and they said they had no record of the expedited delivery, so I had them set it up again. This wasn't easy, since the rep had to get her manager to assist. Finally, they were able to set it up, and I got the text message, so I only had to deal with this cold for 1 day. Then the next day came, and they still didn't show up.

I called at 5pm to ask about the status, and she said it was $300 for 24 to 48 hours, but that was never said and that was also not what was in the text or my account of their website, which both said "expedited 1 day". I bought this house with an Amerigas tank, so I'm stuck with them as a provider, but they are literally willing to destroy my house, since they know it's not easy for me to get another supplier. Avoid at all costs. If you are buying a house with an Amerigas installed, then make them remove the tank before you purchase, so you can get a different supplier.

If you just got an account with this terrible company or are thinking about it, I am going to warn you that your troubles are just beginning. You cannot go to a local storefront/office because of Covid. That's a convenient excuse to keep customers out of their face. If you try to call the local office, you are forwarded to their customer service and you will get nowhere. They will not give you any information about the company or how to reach the next level of management. If you want to get information on what the process is to close your account without penalty, you can't get that either. However, with penalty of $150, you can close it and lose all the propane in your tank. Do not do business with this company if you do not already have one of their tanks.

We moved into this house 18 years ago when they were a smaller company and you could actually get answers and talk to more than a customer service rep (to whom Amerigas gives no useful information that could possible help you). We are now down to about 10% on our tank; called a month ago to set up delivery, told that we were going to have a delivery early this week. I called Tuesday and was told that our delivery would be before 6 PM that night. It's Friday and I called again, and I guess they've been carrying our gas around for 4 days and it just hasn't gotten here yet. I am obviously being facetious. Today, I was told, "You are scheduled for delivery today." Sure it is.

RUN away, I thought this WAS a Great company but after being with them from 3 years.. first let me tell you why we went to them 3 year ago. The propane company that had the account when we bought this home was refusing to upgrade the tank size to a 500 gal. When they picked up the tank they claimed that there was less gas in tank than actual and so wasn't going to refund the correct amount for unused gas. Thank god I took a picture of the gauge before it was picked up. Anyways AmeriGas saved us, they had a actual person answering phones off hours. We were able to order and get account setup on a weekend. Super smooth for everything. But 2 years ago, we were running through propane faster than normal.. actual went out totally. They discover a pin hole leak on the control value of the hot water tank.

We got lock out of propane use. Note I have hot water baseboard heat on propane and hot water heater. No propane =no house heat, no hot water - oh and this was the holidays. 2 weeks before Christmas. AMERIGAS charged me for the leak check - $75 dollars, told us it's our problem to get fixed. Was ripped off by a guy that replace the heater with the wrong kind a gas tank- natural is not LP. AmeriGas put 50% in. Without my knowledge that the water heater was wrong. We run out of propane in days. AmeriGas again locked us out. $2000 dollars in propane, labor and appliances, AmeriGas didn't care, charge us again for the leak check and I had no more money. It took another 2 weeks to get back up and running with both heater and water tank. We had no propane for almost a month. DID AMERIGAS CARE --NO, they made money on our bad luck. Not even a discount or payment plan.

Now that brings us to my past two orders. With propane being a fortune. I decided to get the tank full before the full winter prices kill my budget. Order 380 gals which was $780, that was to get us to 80% from 40%. AMERIGAS delivery window was a ten days... 20 days later I got my delivery which instead of it taking us to 80% I was at 20% when they came. I called twice and their answer to why it was 12 days past the time frame. "I HAD 40%, I DIDN'T NEED IT YET".. I was pissed. Because of covid, MY husband lost his job - single income with 4 people to budget for 6 months. I didn't need propane, I just like spending money on useless items. Sure money just falls from the sky. What gives a company the right to dictate when you get something you have paid for with promised a date. IF THERE WAS C.O.D around maybe but 12 days past.

Now today again I ordered $800 worth of propane. Promise time frame screen shot was 7th to 11th. On the 10th they changed it to the 13th. I called and confirmed we were getting a order today, even added gallons to the order which made it now $1000 order. All before 11am. 6pm NO PROPANE, tank is now below 10%.. ESTIMATED 5 days left of propane. WINTER cold front FRIDAY (tomorrow) I can't have my house temp above 60 degree or OUT by the weekend(no service on weekends or after hours). AMERIGAS - no more live person after hours. Have a issue after hours - OH WELL. And to top all of this, in trying to find a way to get someone on the phone I got online into my account. They change my estimated % of my tank from 12% to 79% FULL. REALLY, no propane and my tank is full.

Falsified information is what you get with this company. I been nice and understanding but they are messing with the welfare of my family. They going to pay for my doctor bills when we all get sick because there NO HEAT. NO MORE WITH THIS SELFISH, EXPENSIVE COMPANY. Remember the customer is 98% right,

    THEY DON'T CARE about AMERICA.

There is nothing preventing my delivery physically like a gate or someone not being home as I work from home. There are also no severe weather issues preventing my delivery in the area. I am very disappointed with the service and delivery process. I placed my order when my tank was at 30% and thought we would have enough propane to last until the delivery which I confirmed with a representative would be 12/31/21. Unfortunately it was delayed; even though I received a text notification on the morning of the 31st stating my order was being prepared for delivery.

I called to find out the reason why it was not delivered on the 31st and they said there was a delay and it would not be delivered until the 3rd no further explanation was given. Alright, so on the third I called to confirm my delivery time and I was again told it was delayed until the 4th. I explained that we have a house of 4 going without heat, warm water for bathing and no way to cook as my stove is propane. (Keep in mind this was after being disconnected on the phone 5 times previously due to their terrible phone system.) I was assured it would be delivered by the 4th, again no delivery on the 4th.

This morning I called again just to be told that my delivery is again delayed for another day until tomorrow the 5th. I asked to speak to a manager and I was on hold for 50 minutes. When the manager finally got on the phone I explained my frustration and asked for an honest answer on why my delivery had not been received. He could not give me a straight answer. He promised my delivery would be received by 5pm standard time on the 6th. I am a reasonable person. If a company tells me something I take them on their word. All I expect is honesty and follow through.

This is not the first time I have had issues with Amerigas deliveries. If they were just honest with their customers that would help them prepare for the worst case situation. I am now on a mission to replace all of my appliances with electric and installing solar on my property so I don't have to deal with them anymore. I purchased a tank from Amerigas in 2019 and overpaid by $1.26. After more than a year of trying to have my money refunded, I turned the matter over to the authorities. After previously agreeing that I was owed this credit balance and promising to pay me, after the authorities got involved, I believe that Amerigas then made up a story how this $1.26 was a difference I owed somehow related to a prior balance on my account some months before the tank purchase. Today (2022) I received a bill from them showing "new charges" of - you guessed it - $1.26. It's amazing that the $1.26 just happens to be the difference between the amount I paid for the tank ($1075) and the amount that I should have paid for it ($1073.74).

Now you might think that $1.26 is not worth fighting about. However, imagine if I owed THEM this amount. It's almost unfathomable to me that they were able to get away with stealing my $1.26. But that is exactly what happened. I guess it was cheaper for them to make up "new charges" instead of sending me the check. If you choose to do business with them, I suggest you proceed with a lot of caution.

The last person I spoke to on Dec 27th guaranteed me the payment was being processed and would reflect on my account within 48 hours and that her supervisor would return my call within 24 hours. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We are new customers to Amerigas (September 2021), but every experience on the phone with them has been a repeat runaround. On Dec 16 we called to get our tank refilled (since we were down to about 25%), and were told that it would be refilled between Dec 17 and Dec 23. This seemed reasonable. However, we were getting really low, so we called the company to make sure they would be here as promised. We were assured that they would arrive by end of the day on Dec 23. It is now mid afternoon on Christmas Eve, and no Amerigas refill yet. This spring we will definitely find a new propane supplier!

If you are a first time customer, they do not warn you that your first delivery is just an inspection, not an actual delivery, so plan ahead! We let our tank get down to about 25% before each refill which works great with other companies. Not this one! They let us get down to a dangerously low amount before they came out. And that’s with me calling several times a day trying to get someone back out to us. Seriously, choose a different company! We will!

Now again after the 2nd full day they tell me they have "run out of gas." This company is not dependable or reliable. If you have half a tank of gas and you can wait you could get a better rate sometimes through them but if you need reliable service that you could count on this is not your company. A local company would be much better. The worst thing about this experience is that the nice people in customer service have you convinced each time that your problem is solved.. Nothing however happens the way they believe it does. They do not have any direct contact with the delivery people.

We had to call multiple times over 6 weeks to get them to come pick up their empty tank, and finally reached the point where we told them if they didn't come get it right away we would speak to our lawyer about how to charge them a storage fee for keeping it on our private property. They came and got it three days later. Then a month after that they sent us a bill. They charged us to come get their tank!!!! Seriously?!!? Worst customer service EVER, and bogus fees! However, Amerigas cannot seem to get it to function. First, the phone system is unusable - the customer service folks break up and are garbled. Second, they seem unable to do anything - when one falls below 20% in NH in the winter, it’s no joke. The inability to get a delivery is not just frustrating - it’s dangerous. We have been a propane customer for the past 7 years. Our local company was bought out by AmeriGas last year and since then the service has been horrible. Customer service has been contracted out of the United States. We paid our lock and fee over the summer and we're told in early November that we could expect a delivery. I have called about six times since then and have received a text from AmeriGas stating that they would deliver. I was told that they had expedited our order which meant that we would get a delivery within 3 days. That has not been the case. I was even given a fake confirmation number along with an actual driver's name telling me that I would receive a delivery on a certain day. When I contacted the delivery person they said that I had never been put on their schedule and he actually wasn't even working on the day that they had said he would show up.

It seems apparent that AmeriGas is stealing money from customers without the intention of delivering on their promise. I will also add that I have been hung up multiple times by customer service agents demonstrating their lack of concern for their customers. I am very afraid since our tank is less than 10% and we are heading into winter without a secondary heat source for our home. Shame on you, AmeriGas.

DO NOT use AmeriGas for your propane needs. They've been bought by a foreign company and ALL of their calls are sent to another country. Having issues communicating all around, from spelling your name, asking questions, receiving information, and trying to speak with someone who knows what's going on with your account and can articulate it to you will NEVER happen. This is a prime example on what has happened to this country. Sourcing out their customer service dept. to a foreign company that aren't trained enough not only in our language, but also the line of work Amerigas does fully deals with and their customers has turned out to be an epic failure on this company's part.

All I can suggest is what I plan on doing. Using up all my fuel, and having them remove their rotted tank from my property and seek out a local provider. I honestly can't figure out where they define "Customer Service" with the airheads they have behind those desks. I TRULY feel they hired these people, and I am saying many since I've been on the phone with them 14 times in 2 days and yet they aren't understanding what information I was trying to inform them about.

To pinpoint where the issue lays would be an understatement, the problem is the entire company. Sadly in less than 11 months this company has gone so so bad. I will be surprised they will be still a company in the U.S. in 5 years. Since they switch over to whomever bought them, they have pulled out of ALL small businesses as far as propane tanks for grills. This I was told by one of their drivers who accepted the switch and is continuing to work for them. They feel small towns are too much of a bother to supply them with propane needs.

Wake up America. This type of thing isn't getting any better, it's getting worse!!! Please, look at all the reviews, no one is making things up, there is no customer service with Amerigas anymore, sad but true. Don't waste your money, time, or causing your blood pressure to rise with this company, we mean nothing to AmeriGas.

We have been a propane customer for 18 years. A few years ago, AmeriGas bought our local company (Titan Propane) and since then there has been nothing but problems. We have a small propane tank, but we do not have much that runs off of it, so that will never change. Our original deal from Titan was that we were supposed to get free tank rental in any calendar year where we filled our tank, and that was always honored at the local level by our sales rep, who was pleasant and knowledgeable.

Soon after the buyout, our local office closed and I had to call a district office for the same matter each year. She was also very pleasant and had the matter taken care of with a 2-minute phone call. This was also the agreement for the tank at my mother's house, and the district and local reps would take care of both bills for us at the same time. Then, however, they closed my district office and "streamlined" everything to run out of Dallas with offshore call centers for us to deal with.

This year, I called because had received a bill for tank rental, and I discussed this with 2 different AmeriGas reps for over an hour before they said they would put in a request for a waiver. I asked what the current price of gas was in my area and was given a price with the stipulation that it could vary by a little bit by the time they came to fill the tanks. Fine. I ordered gas filled at both my mother's house and mine.

Four days later, they filled both tanks on the same day. When the bills came, my gas cost was $1.25 per gallon higher than my mother's, who is only a few miles away. She got literally twice the gas for within $40 of the price on my bill. I called to find out what was happening, and again got the runaround for over an hour on the phone before they told me that a billing supervisor would have to review the discrepancy and get back to me within 24-72 hours. A week later, I called again... another hour of my life and more runaround, and a billing supervisor would contact me within 24-72 hours. Four days later, then another three days later, then another three days later, I called again, spent 15-60 minutes and was promised a supervisor would get back to me.

Today, I called to cancel my account due to my inability to get this price discrepancy resolved in a timely manner with their company. I actually got a person in the U.S. She was very pleasant and told me they would pick up the tank for $69.99 but if it had over 5% gas in it, they would charge $149.99 and not credit me for the gas that was still in there (almost 80 gallons at $3.22 a gallon)... but if I waited until after November 5, 2021, they would charge $149.99 but would pay me for the gas they pumped out "so that was a much better deal for me." So for the $300 of gas I got ripped off on, if I have half of it left and have the tank removed, I will make back enough money to pay their outrageous pickup fee (but not get anything back for the actual overpriced gas that they refuse to acknowledge as the problem)! This person told me that the lower price my mother was charged on the same day must have been an error!

AmeriGas, you are a pitiful excuse for a business. When you lose my business, you also lose my mother's. I only hope enough other people find out before they are similarly put on a stranglehold. By the way, none of my neighbors have AmeriGas... and their price this year was $1.68 per gallon from a local company. You can be sure I will be that company's customer next year, as will my mother. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have.

At the beginning of 2020 they closed down their local offices, so the only way to contact them was through their 1 (800) number. We had a very good relationship with our local office and received very good customer service through them and timely responses. Now that I have to contact the 1 (800) number, I have to wait on hold for a very long time, explain my business' unique situation every time, and deal with confused customer service representatives. Amerigas has repeatedly missed deliveries, causing my business to shut down. They refuse to honor the special accommodations that my local office used to provide to our seasonal business, costing my business hundreds of dollars a year.

Their policy is that when they pick up my propane tank at the end of our season, they take back the gas in the tank and do not refund us for the amount of gas they take back. This feels like theft to me. I have asked to talk to a manager about this several times and they have failed to call me back. Overall, Amerigas has consistently proven that they are incapable of offering good customer service indicating that their company structure is terrible. If you are a business and have the choice between a local company and Amerigas, choose your local company even if it is a bit more expensive.

People tend to write reviews to complain. I think it's only fair to write one when a company does well. In late Spring of this year Amerigas made a good offer for its customers to receive immediate propane in their tanks with four months to pay for it. Wow, almost one of those too good to be true offers. So, I wondered what was behind it; what strings were attached. Being PR minded, I wrote an email to Hugh Gallagher, the CEO of Amerigas, and suggested he be more transparent in explaining the reasoning behind offers like this.

I didn't get a reply to that, but that's okay. After much pondering, I realized the total genius in this. I've now found there is a propane shortage in store for us this Winter. Amerigas got ahead of the shortage by making that offer and getting many customers to store propane for them at a lower cost than to store it all themselves. A win-win for Amerigas and its customers, right? All that propane storage distributed to full tanks all over my area cheaper that it will be later, at no interest to its customers and physically improving our chances of having enough supply through a shortage.

I must give kudos to Amerigas for this thinking. Maybe this is obvious to some, especially in the business. But not being in the business, I had no idea. And I suspect many other customers don't either. And maybe if Amerigas published this reasoning to its customers they wouldn't have to send so many prodding emails to get customers to take them up on it. It would be an almost patriotic thing to cooperate in. Wow, I have a whole different image of Amerigas now.

Spoke to a nice but not fully engaged individual who offered me several things that never came to pass. A). Offered me two per-gallon discounts (later, I learned that they don't mix and match discounts), B). Said that he could not apply the discounts due to computer problems but that he would annotate my account so that I could receive the discounts upon paying my bill (later I learned he did not annotate my account),

C). Told me that they would call to confirm the delivery and, at that time, during that call, I could change my order or cancel it (later, I would learn, they delivered without calling... The driver mentioned he got no memo to call), D). Told me they would call because I had to move machinery out of the driver's path before he could deliver (when the driver arrived un-announced, the machinery was in the way but the driver and my partner moved it out of the way).

Later, when the higher-than-expected bill came, I called (like the sales rep told me to) to modify and pay the account. But, without notes in the account, so began what would eventually be a long (over an hour) wrangling with various reps until a supervisor called me back. In the end, they did give me some discounts (distinct from what I was originally promised) to ultimately amount to about 10% more than I was expecting to pay. This was a great example of how a company is only as solid as their most poorly trained employee in the chain of events.

AmeriGas. Here is my review. I owned a large Contracting company for 26 years and have had a great deal of experience in dealing with customers. I can say that Amerigas is one of the worst company I have had to deal with. I leased a 1000gl tank from Amerigas and requested that they fill the tank, their cost per gl was around $2.40 per gl. That sounded a little high to me so I called a competitor of theirs and they quoted me a cost of 1.41 per gl. Knowing that changing companies would quickly pay off I requested Amerigas to pick up their tank. Purchased a new 1000gl tank of my own and had the new company fill it. After many calls and some time Amerigas picked their tank up and left. Here is where the real issues started.

They then sent me a bill for 149.99 to “pump out the tank”, this service had already be done by the new company, I called Amerigas and was told that they charge everyone this fee. After reading their contract it states that you avoid this charge by continuing service with company unit the supply of propane in the tank is less than 5%. This is what I did and in addition I had the tank pump out by the new company.

After more than 12 calls to them, talking with a number of different people they still cannot tell me why I am being charge the 149.99, they have now billed me an additional $36 late fee and are threatening to send me to collections. On three of the calls I have been given a so called case numbers only to find out on a call later that the number does not exist. They will not let me talk to a manager and will not help resolve the issue. I have been very polite on every call to them. I will provide an update to this story. Should I file a small claims case that would take a great deal of my time or just pay them?

It takes forever to get a human that asks you for your personal information then they fail to update it; then they hang up or give an excuse for why they cannot help me with my question (About billing or service change). I asked for a quote to price out a new gas connection and they charged me for the quote! I schedule the new connection two weeks in advance and they failed to show up! I called to find out what happened and an AmeriGas representative told me that my appointment had been rescheduled (No one called Me!). Then I was told I never had an appointment scheduled for that date. When I called them out on it then the service representative "found" the original appointment and could not explain why the appointment was changed. I would NOT recommend AmeriGas as a dependable provider!

Moving-Sold our house, called AmeriGas and let them know our closing date, expecting the account to close or transfer at that time. They disconnected 10 days early, locked the tank. Never knocked on the door to let us know what they were doing. We eventually noticed no hot water or ability to cook on the gas stove. Called the next day and asked to be reconnected. They acknowledged they screwed up, but nothing happened. At the end of the second day I spent almost 2 hours on the phone trying to get my issue escalated ... No go. Presently told maybe tomorrow morning - 3 days after their mistake ....

Amerigas is not a good propane provider. It has allowed our tank to go empty twice. Fortunately we discovered the problem quickly. The tank was leaking. When the repair person came he denied it was leaking. I had to show him what the problem was, and I know pretty much nothing about propane tanks. Once he understood the problem he temporarily fixed it, and Amerigas said they would replace the tank when it was empty. We were due a credit for some lost propane, but not the full amount. It took weeks for it to appear on our account. We still can't get them to give us the credit in cash, by check, or as a credit to the credit card we use to pay the account.

My husband and I received service from AmeriGas for one month after which we were appalled by their customer service and decided to go with another company. AmeriGas then waited 6 months before removing the tank and then billed us. We challenged the removal fee since that was not disclosed to us when we first signed on with them as well as the fact it took 6 months with them to remove it from our property after multiple attempts to communicate with them. They responded to our request saying they would look into it further and most likely waive the fee. 2 months later we received a late notice with additional fees added. We are disgusted by this company and recommend you look elsewhere.

I was a client for at least 20 years, with an account set up for automatic deliveries. A few years ago they started penalizing me for not using enough propane, and saddling me with an annual tank rental fee of $138.00, in addition to the cost of propane delivered. Then at some point in the past 24 months, they changed my account to will call, instead of automatic delivery. I definitely would never have requested will call, because the tank has no gauge to monitor usage, so how would I have known when to call?? While in the middle of canning the bushels of pears my pear trees just yielded the other day, I ran out of propane. I immediately called Amerigas, and advised I had no propane. I discovered on the call that they showed my account as will call, not auto delivery, which I advised was not correct, and I had never changed it to will call. The rep said they would deliver within 72 hours.

After three days passed, I called to find out where they were, and was told it was not scheduled for delivery for another week, and that if I wanted it delivered sooner I would have to pay an additional $300.00. Even though some error or glitch on their part was responsible for my account showing as a will call, no amount of explaining would make them budge. Needless to say, I told them to come pick up their tank and cancel my account with them, since providing customer service to a long time client is apparently outside of their realm of expertise now. Or they simply do not care. And, oh yes, they are going to charge me ANOTHER $149.00 to come pick up the tank. Unbelievable....The almighty dollar reigns supreme with this company!

I almost never write reviews, but the service from Amerigas was so thoroughly terrible that I had caution other would-be customers. First, and most annoyingly, they don't have any local phone numbers for you to call when something goes wrong. All they have is a 1-800 number that is staffed by a call center overseas somewhere. The hold times are ridiculously long and the reps have no idea ability to get anything done. Second, the website is equally useless in terms of getting any useful information or assistance.

Third, their actual service is terrible. We had a technician come out to check out tank for a leak. We also asked them to check the meter because it had not moved much at all in months. It showed we had 80% left and we knew that wasn't accurate. But the technician assured us that the meter was correct and that we did not need a refill. So of course, only a few weeks later, the gas ran out and that is when the real fun (sarcasm) began. Because the meter was broken the reps kept telling us that had to be fixed BEFORE they could add any gas. And the next available appointment for service was a WEEK later. We had renters in our house who had no ability to cook anything.

After 15-20 different phone calls over FOUR DAYS we FINALLY got them to send out someone to partially refill the tank before the meter would get fixed. Just a terrible, terrible experience all around. And it is totally unnecessary as there are at least two other gas suppliers available locally, with local phone numbers and CHEAPER PRICES. We will be switching to FERRELLGAS in the next week.

Long wait times to speak with a service rep, no deliveries on the planned dates, no response to messages left, consistent loud shrieking noises (on three or more occasions) while being on hold. When I wanted to cancel my account it took a long time to have the tank removed, and now over 6 weeks after its removal and closing of my account I have yet to receive a $600.84 return on my credit due. It was good while it lasted, but it went to hell about a year ago. The comedy of it is, that the automated service kept explaining how much their system had improved to serve me better. I'm waiting for my money to give to another LP provider.

The WORST utility company; actually the worst business I've ever had to deal with. As others have stated, they try to get you on the lease fee every year, even though there is no fee if you buy a certain amount of gas each year. Their customer service is terrible. They would rather lose me as a customer than honor the coupon I got in the mail to save $100 because the coupon was going to expire one month prior to when my yearly lease fee cycle started. After I told them I would cancel, they asked what they could do to change my mind.... (Duh???) I switched providers and saved well over $100 due to their inflated prices AND I have NO LEASE FEE to worry about.

After I cancelled my service, it took them over 2 months to come get the tank and then they charged me a tank pick-up fee after I stored it on my property for 2 months. Do your homework and find a different provider. There are plenty of options that have way better service and prices. Whatever you do STAY CLEAR of AMERIGAS. I have heard many of the same complaints from many other former customers in my area. Not one person has ever said anything good about them. They don't even deserve one star.

They say they will deliver in 7-10 business days when I call and they have repeatedly not made in those times (both before and after pandemic). They have nonsensical excuses. I've used them for 8 years and had maybe 2 years where it went smoothly. Currently, I've waited 13 days and had numerous calls with customer service to get a delivery. The customer service is outsourced and they are very reluctant to help with any problem. If others experience what I experience, they should lose their business license.

June 15 I called my local Amerigas to reorder gas for my tank. They quoted me three times that the cost was $228 plus change. I got an email receipt a few minutes later for $328 plus change. I called again, and realized that I was not talking with the local number on the web page that I had dialed for Amerigas in Charlottesville, VA, but rather I was routed to a centralized call center in Ohio.

The call center for AG kept interrupting me as I explained the error they had made. By the way, I was polite and did not raise my voice. After all, this person did not make the mistake. The second AG staff admitted that the number inputted by the original clerk was an error, and then told me that the bill should have been $300. What? Wait. So follow along: They first said three times the bill on my charge card would be $228, Then sent me a receipt charging $100 more. And then when I inquired on the next call said the cost was really $300.

Appalling, yes. But there is more. I had to continue with the second service agent at AG for several minutes to see if there was to get me a supervisor. She said yes four times, but each time would continue to talk, and not finding a supervisor. She admitted at one point she was not sure one was available. Dear God, it was a circus act, and an expensive one at that. Finally she found a supervisor who came on, apologized for the error in billing, and said the charge of $328 was correct. I asked how they operated a successful company by changing their price with each communication? Of course I was told they “understood my frustration.” Ug, NO. I was assured that they would have a person from the Charlottesville office call me to work this out. 24 hours have passed and no call.

Look, Amerigas, we all make a mistake now and then, but three different prices within the hour is not a mistake, it is poor management and poor supervision, especially when the supervisor says he has no authority to do anything, and will pass my complaint along to high ups. Moreover, it is a Terrible way to treat a customer of four years. I expect better of a business that I pay to deliver a needed product. What sort of operation is it, by the way that says on their webpage, Charlottesville office, no entry for customers? Do you want us to drive to Ohio? Come one, act like a real company with franchises who have real managers at each local facility to deal with customers. I want someone to work this out who is a local contact, not a faceless person 400 miles away, and who has no ability to resolve the issue. Tik tok, tik tok. I am waiting.

The customer advocate told me they eliminated the local call centers and just have a corporate call center. When I asked for the delivery date of my gas he had no idea when the delivery was going to be made. We are basically out of gas. When I asked why they took the money from our account they said we had to prepay due to a write off on our account. I asked what the write down on the account was for and he told me 23 cents. I spent $1,200 on gas last year. I asked if they sent us a bill for 23 cents and he said no, yet I am on a credit hold?

It gets more interesting. I asked if he could fix the issue and he told me only if we get a credit check by giving him my social security number which I wouldn’t do. There are only two companies that deliver propane so they don’t need to treat customers very well. Some of the worst customer policies I have seen in a long time and their customer advocates is a great marketing tool but they don’t solve problems for customers.
