When I returned the car at the Reno airport I was told to just park the car and they would check it in later, as they were backed up. While waiting for my flight back home, I got an email from Thrifty with my final paid receipt. I was charged $400 for having smoked in the car. But nowhere was there any visual warning regarding the car being "smoke free ". Instead, it was buried 3 or 4 pages in the agreement in a 2 line statement. I had only had smoked on my way back to the airport, so it was noticeable during my return. Had there been any signs at the counter or in the car, I wouldn't have bothered to light up. Charged $400, for what? Opening the window and spraying air fresheners in the car? REALLY??? These guys are without any scruples! I will NEVER rent a car from them again!

First of all, the agent that gave us the car was nasty and antisemitic. My wife walked out crying because of her remarks and attitude! Second of all, the car had a few scratches and had a foul odor in it that smelled like weed. Third of all, when we returned the car, the agents were so unprofessional and made us drop off the car very far from the terminal. We had to walk MORE THAN 5 MINUTES in the pouring rain. Our baby got drenched and had to sit in a wet carriage throughout the airport. Our clothing and shoes were soaked from walking to the terminal. We had to sit shivering in wet clothes and shoes for the entire (12 hour) flight.

Our luggage too got soaked as well (see enclosed pictures) and we were required to rewash all our clothes and items as soon as we arrived home so that we wouldn't have more damage from this. Our brand new suitcases needed to be aired out and washed down so they would not get moldy. After trying everything we can do to make this a smooth trip, we were truly disappointed to have such treatment after paying so much for our car that was supposed to make our trip easier and instead only ruined our long awaited experience in New York.

I had made my reservation online for a car rental in Los Angeles at a price of $761.00. Yesterday, when I went to pick up my car, the charges came to over $1300.00. I argued with the customer representative asking why it was so much more and she stated it was the airport fees. I disagreed and she took a yellow highlighter and scribbled where the airport taxes were added. It still didn't make sense with me. But, at this point, I'm stuck. I drove two hours to Bakersfield and looked at the other documents I received AFTER I signed. The additional cost was $450.00 for insurance. I don't need additional insurance as I have full coverage from my insurance company on rentals. I immediately call Thrifty. They told me I had to go to the counter where I rented the car. I am two and half hours away. So unethical and shameless. I will update this review with the outcome.

We arrived on time, at 3:00 pm on Jan. 16, into Kona, HI. We were taken by shuttle to the remote rental car site. Before we exited the bus a representative of Thrifty announced they had no cars and did not expect any the rest of the day. We were told to wait on line while one counter person checked us in. After 45 minutes of waiting we were told take a cab or an Uber to our hotel and return tomorrow between 9:00-11:00 am. There was no promise that a car would be available at that time. There was no concern for those of us who had prepaid trips planned for Jan. 17. At 8:30 am on Jan. 17 I called the manager's office at Thrifty. I was told that there might be a car later that morning but no promises were made. DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE CARS. AVOID THRIFTY IN KONA.

I was charged over $300 for car insurance, which I declined at the desk. I did not realize this charge was on rental when I signed the agreement. I rented the vehicle at MCO airport. I was tired from a long flight and was traveling with a family member in a wheelchair. The rental agent took advantage of this situation and put the charge hoping I would not notice. Other reviewers have commented on the predatory business practice of Thrifty, and I agree. The next morning, less than 24 hours after I rented the car, I noticed the charge.

I called the 1- 800 number and was told the charge would be removed after the contract ended, since they now have a record of my call and disputing the charge, or I could return to the rental location and address the concern. I drove to the MCO airport rental location and arrived at 12 pm. I rented the car at 11:30 am the previous day. The agent told me they could not assist me with my problem, so I asked to speak with a manager. The agent called the manager, and I was told they are too busy to come and speak with me. I got the manager's email and sent them an email while I was at the agency. I waited an hour, and the manager has yet to come to speak with me.

At the end of the rental contract, I called the 1-800# again. They told me they would investigate and call within 7 days- I waited- no return call. I called a second time- and was told they were still investigating. I called a third time- and I was told yes, we have all the notes from your initial phone call and documentation that the email was sent to the manager the next and video footage you returned to the agency- but they needed more time. I called a fourth time--now one month since the rental date. and was told, "our policy does not allow us to reimburse you". I asked to speak to a supervisor, and they took my phone number and told me a supervisor will call me within 24 hours- today is the fourth day and NO phone call.

These business practices are unacceptable, and I advise everyone to stay away from Thrifty. I also noted another reviewer posted the same problem- the charger for insurance, however, they commented they were reimbursed after 4 phone calls. Obviously, they do reimburse people. Stay away from Thrifty do not give them our hard-earned money! Let these predatory, dishonest, unethical, misleading companies feel the impact of their many dissatisfied customers.

We were scheduled to fly into Tampa airport. Our flight was delayed multiple times. We were not going to arrive until after midnight. I tried for hours to reach an agent at the airport directly to See how we could still pick up a car, since we were driving another hour to our destination. I was never able to reach an agent. I ended up calling a national number, he told me to dial the number back and press five and it would take me to the agent. I called back pressed five… Not a valid number! I tried to go online to cancel the reservation… Would not accept my information after entering it multiple times. I ended up getting a different rental company, Enterprise, who were very helpful and easy to reach. Had I’m not been able to reach Enterprise, I would’ve been stranded at the airport in Tampa until 6 AM when they open to get in the morning to get a car. PEOPLE… BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS!!!

A reservation was made and paid in full for a one week full-size vehicle with Thrifty. Pick up was at 8:30 am at the Phoenix AZ airport on 12/26/22. After a 30 plus minute wait in line the male agent was arrogant, rude and condescending. I was advised there were no vehicles and if I wanted to refund I would have to request that I was first however offered an upgrade of a Mustang for $260 or an SUV for $370 additional for the week. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told they were washing cars and couldn’t be bothered. Individuals that were willing to pay for upgrades were immediately given a vehicle. Everyone else was told that there would be a 1-2 hour wait for a vehicle.

After the line diminished I approached the female agent and questioned what they were doing. I paid for a full size vehicle and was willing to even take a downgrade. When making this reservation the SUV was an additional $4 a day so I chose not to go with the SUV because of the increase in gas prices. When I finally was given a car and went down to the lower level there were at least 50 vehicles in Thrifty spaces 13 full-size vehicles and only two of those 13 were wet - recently washed. The rest were completely dry so what I would like to know is what exactly was going on and why the lies and the unethical business practice going on at Thrifty. There absolutely was no shortage of vehicles. I travel for business all the time. If a car rental company does not have what you reserved they give you something else. It’s not the customer's issue.

Rented a car from Thrifty through a third party. I had reserved a mid-sized SUV. When I went to pick up the car I was offered a small SUV. I explained that was not what I had reserved and paid for, I was told that I would be upgraded to a mid-sized. This was presented as a correction on their part to provide me what what I had reserved and paid for. I was not given anything to look at either on paper or digitally before I signed the agreement. I should have requested something, but it didn't occur to me that I would be charged for this 'upgrade' three days after I returned the car. I also paid to have them fill the car with gas (their rate was cheaper than the stations around the airport).

The car we rented had a tank that would hold 14.9 gallons of gas. The car was returned to them with a quarter of a tank of gas. I was charged more for gas than if I had returned the car totally empty. I was finally refunded part of the money they had charged me, but I was never given an explanation for anything, especially how the math worked with the gas charge. I was told that I should have reviewed the contract before I signed. I was never given anything to review before signing. Lesson learned.

12/11 - 4:40pm spoke with a Thrifty agent by name of Lilet. Explained to her that our rental was due back the same day at 10:30pm and wanted to know the cost of retaining our car another day; because if the cost was excessive, we were early enough and had ample time to return the vehicle well before time. Thrifty agent Lilet advise that there will be “NO CHARGE” if the vehicle is return by or before 10:30pm, Monday 12/12/22. As a result, Lilet's comment comment provided was not what happened. The vehicle was return on a full tank of gas today, 12/12/22 at 3:04pm, 3:34 pm I received a Thrifty e-receipt statement charging me an additional $100 deposit and $84.09 for the additional day that I was told I will not be charged as long as the car is return today by or before 10:30pm.

Called Thrifty’s customer service after reviewing the receipt and the customer service rep was playing semantics with me on the on confirming details on the reservation more than one time…i.e 10:30am or 10:30pm drop after several times confirming a 10:30PM drop. I requested to speak with a manager and was transferred to a man by the name Jose who stated per the rep's notes he was not refunding my $84.09 which is unacceptable, WHY would I call about possibly extending the rental car and not acquire a fee! This is ridiculous!

I don’t even have enough characters to go into the details regarding the pick up of our prepaid vehicle on 12/9. After 3 hours in the line pending to pickup our car, a manager came in and stated, "No reservations, no car," and went back outside. Didn’t even stay to address customer concerns!!! Luckily we had a reservation, but tons of exhausted and distracted customers were waiting just as long as we were with no reservation, looking to reserve a car at the counter. What kind of BUSINESS is THRIFTY RUNNING HERE!!! Rating is actually NO STARS! Can not move forward with the complaint unless 1 star is selected.

If I could give less than one star I would. Absolutely horrible business, stay away. Do not rent from Thrifty, Dollar or Hertz. They’re all owned by the hertz corporation and they are all equally terrible. TLDR: Thrifty, Dollar, Hertz all suck. I would have missed the rehearsal dinner because of them. Go with Enterprise, they saved the day.

I’ll try to keep my story concise here. I booked and paid for a rental car from thrifty three or four months ago for a weekend wedding in Baltimore in which I was a groomsman. I booked through Expedia which was a whole problem in itself. (They double charged me and then gave me the runaround until finally giving me a full refund about a month.)

I arrived in Baltimore on time for my reservation and found the thrifty rental car counter was closed (Dollar was closed as well) and a sign that directed all customers to the Hertz counter. I waited in line for over an hour before I was helped. They announced it would be another 2 hour wait AFTER getting “helped” at the desk. I was close to the front at this point and decided to just tough it out (after all, I’d already paid). Upon finally getting up there I was told that they needed a $500 deposit for a debit card. Trying to pay the deposit they told me that they would not accept my card because it was not “a brick and mortar bank“, which is ultimately ridiculous. I tried to ask if my wife could pay the deposit. That was not a possibility either because the reservation was not in her name and because I had already paid, they could not change the name on the reservation.

Hertz employees were not helpful, sympathetic, or apologetic in the slightest. The woman that was “helping” me was indifferent and borderline rude to me and my wife. We tried to ask what they could do to make an exception or help us and explained that we were trying to get to a wedding celebration on time. There was no care for us or good customer service and they told us that they wouldn’t help us. The woman told me I have to call either thrifty or Expedia in order to change the name on the reservation, since I had already paid, as she so graciously explained to me.

Finally, exhausted and frustrated (livid at this point) I gave up. Defeated, I walked over to the Enterprise counter to ask if they had any cars available, anticipating the price being far greater. To my surprise, I received a rental car within five minutes which was somehow less expensive and also a better/bigger vehicle than my original rental. Because of Thrifty and Hertz I had to miss all of the bachelor party celebration for my friend's wedding and I barely made it to the rehearsal dinner. It was only because of Enterprise that I made it.

We even double checked the day before to clarify their hours as various websites show different hours. The staff was dismissive and unhelpful. AND our credit card was charged later that day. No help was forthcoming when we complained by phone to that location NOR at the customer service phone number. They passed the buck by saying our card was charged by a third party through whom we rented the car (how does one know there is a third party involved?). Definitely the worst experience I have had in my life!!! Sneaky and fraudulent staffs at 133 Weber Street North location!! On Nov 16, I needed to rent a car urgently for Nov 17, I had reach out to Enterprise and unfortunately, they had no vehicles available. I googled car rentals near me and thrifty came up, so I booked a car on there for pickup at 8:30 on Nov 17th to return at 9:30 on Nov 18th.

I got to the location on Nov 17th (133 Weber St North, Waterloo) and couldn’t find Thrifty anywhere, my boyfriend who was dropping me and I went round the plaza twice and were still lost as there was no sign board or anything indicating that the company exist in that plaza. I called Thrifty customer service to verify the address and get help locating the rental office, the representative had no idea and kept on putting me on hold. We finally decided to check each store in the plaza and then we found Hertz, entered, and they confirmed that Thrifty, Dollar rent a car were all in one office (meaning about 4 companies are using one small office), I mentioned that their website of google page should be updated so people know to find their store.

The representative asked for my confirmation number which I provided, he brought out a key, said I needed insurance which I declined, he then said he needed to put a hold on my credit card for $360.21 as a regular process for renting a car, I accepted and gave him the credit card information. He later said the car was ready and we could come along with him to pickup the car.

Getting to the car, it was parked with the trunk facing the wall, We stood at the driver side and the representative said he would check the vehicle (silver Toyota Corolla 2022 model), he checked and said “I have checked the car, it is all good to go, the tank is full so you are expected to return with full tank”, I replied and said “thanks”, he handed me some paper folded, I put it straight in my handbag, got into the car and left.

On Nov 18th, I went to return the car at 8:40am since my return was for 9:30am, my boyfriend and I went together because I couldn’t drive two cars at once, so I needed someone to drive mine behind me, so I have a car after returning the rental car. I had filled the tank before going in. I handed the key to the representative I met there, and he said he would go check the car, he comes back a few minutes after and says “I’m sorry but the windshield is damaged”. I was confused, for the first 40 seconds, I was trying to remember what he meant by windshield, we both said that’s impossible and asked to see the vehicle.

We get to the car and are looking at the windshield and can’t see any damage, then I say, “we can't see anything”, the representative then goes to the passenger side of the car and points out a long crack on the windshield, I was shocked, I knew this wasn’t from me, or during my rental period. He then says, “there is also a dent on the car”, I said where, he shows us the dent and it’s on the door of passenger seat at the back, once again, I was confused. He immediately said “oh, that dent was there when you picked up the car”, I replied “you mean this car has a dent yesterday before I picked up? Why wasn’t I informed?”. The representative says “well, it was marked on your paperwork”. I’m like which paperwork?

Apparently, the guy who inspected the car had marked the dent at the back of the car and purposely refused to mention it to me because he knew that would trigger me to do a personal inspection on my own. I then said, both damages are not on the driver side of the vehicle, I didn’t go to the other side at all, the car was damaged before I was given. The representative immediately said, “it's winter, it happens all the time, this is also not a stone crack”. I asked, do you have a personal car? Is the windshield damaged? How do you know this is not a stone crack? So, you are aware of what cracked the windshield for you to make such statements? He couldn’t answer any of my questions but said, "What’s your insurance, we would need to contact them to fix this after we get a repair quote from Speedy Auto."

I was furious, what sort of fraudulent organization do you run, why employ thieves as staffs who are very keen on ripping people off. The second representative who was present was fidgeting at this point (he was the one who inspected the car on the rental day). I told them I am not paying for a damage that was on the car way back, they are looking for who to pin this on.

I called 911 to report the situation, dropped the key and left for work because I was already an hour late. I have been calling Hertz, Thrifty customer service line repeatedly since Nov 18 and no resolution has been made, on Monday, Nov 21, the Thrifty store called to inform me that they got a quote of $861.27 from speedy and asked me to pay when this is unsolved. Today, Nov 24, I realized my credit card had been charged $861.27 by Thrifty and I am confused. How do you charge me for something that you know was already there, how can you allow such corporate theft, I have read so many reviews and not one is a positive review, this is ridiculous. Why the corrupt system and extortion? I want my money back because this is unfair!

I made a reservation about 1 week in advance. 1.5-hour delay in picking up a car as "there are no cars available at the moment". Agents did not share the length of the delay; I went back and asked again. This forced cancellation of my plans on day 1 so I got no value from the car. Others in line with reservations had even longer waits of 2 hours or more. Reviews of Thrifty show overbooking has been an issue dating back over 3 years or more. As Seinfeld said you know how to take the reservations but not hold the reservations.

If you are going to continue overbooking as a business practice and way to maximize your profit you should compensate people when you mess up. Agents gave the impression that waits this long were either the norm or no big deal. Why do you not empower your agents to make small $ compensations? What does that say about what you think of your people? Vouchers for future use only add work for everyone.

When I finally got a car, the system did not recognize three of my credit cards even though they were active and recently used. Hold times for customer service on the phone exceeding 20 minutes. Convoluted phone tree. Thrifty agents mis-transferred me multiple times. Tried to discuss/resolve issues over the phone but Thrifty systems do not empower phone agents to see necessary information if it is not in their silo. If you are going to overbook to make extra $ at least streamline your processes for customer service when people run into issues due to your business practices. I asked several agents to make notes in my file several times because I had questions and concerns about the rental conditions-they said they would. On checking later there were no notes. A very, very, frustrating, and unprofessional experience. In future, I will avoid Thrifty whenever I can.

I chose to pay the tolls in cash since we were staying right outside of Disney and I only needed the tolls 2 days. Then Ian happened. We had to evacuate to West Palm Beach since our flights were canceled out of Orlando. Driving across the state, there were big signs lit up saying there was a suspension of tolls. The booths were closed.

When we went south a couple of exits on the Florida tpk, they billed the plate on the car. For 12.60 in tolls, they billed me 72.54! Administration fees!!! Not to mention the countless hours I spent on the phone to fight the tolls, as well as trying to put it on my NJ Ez pass, this was a horrible rip off!!! Thrifty has no compassion and no acceptable solutions. Spending around 1,300.00 for a 5 day rental is absurd and to add insult to injury!!! This is a brutal and unforgivable example of lack of customer care! There was a toll suspension in the state. We never planned on having to evacuate to our friends house slightly to the south. There was no way to pay at any booth! I sent them a check for the tolls minus the service fees and they returned it to me and billed my CC for the additional 72.54. I will not rent from them or any of their affiliates again!

I reserved a car from Thrifty in the Atlanta, GA airport. I waited in line an hour to be told that I could not use my credit card because my last name didn't match my license (divorce) and I offered my debit card which showed both my married and maiden name. They wouldn't accept this as proof my credit card was mine and would not allow me to use my debit card because I flew in with a one way ticket (to buy a vehicle) and said even if I could use a debit card they would have to run a hard credit check. The immature staff were taking pleasure in denying rentals. Also, they were making people wait in line an hour and then after paying they were being told 1-1.5 hour wait to get the actual car. The employees were saying they always make people wait over an hour on weekends. I'll never use thrifty, dollar, or Hertz.

We had the most awful experience ever with the Thrifty Car Rental at the LAX on Friday evening. We were shuttled over from LAX and when we went to pick up our rental car, the agent said it would take 1.5 hours. Instead after 3 hours, still nothing ready for us. In fact, folks that were there longer than us, some, began yelling and screaming for their car. And when we began asking why it was taking so long, we discovered they were holding our cars for Gold Members who weren't even there yet. Eventually I was able to get a car after going over to the Hertz counter and a kind agent provided us a rental in substitution of Thrifty. I will never rent from Thrifty EVER AGAIN! I would recommend anyone traveling to LAX and trying to rent a car, don't choose Dollar or Thrifty, instead use a different agency.

I explained I followed directions on choosing a car from the designated area. The gate guard checked my reservation and did not state any deviation of the car I rented. (I doubt they would let someone leave without a proper rental agreement.) No mention is anything wrong when I checked in the car on time. Thrifty CS threatened collections if I didn't pay the invoice. I have a perfect credit score and I'm essentially being blackmailed because of the erroneous charge. The process of getting the car went smoothly and the car was satisfactory. One very big gripe is the way tolls were handled. We were in the Denver/Boulder Colorado area. The car had an EZ-Pass device on the windshield. We opened the sliding door to expose it before we passed through a toll sensor. It is no longer possible to pay in cash so the EZ-Pass was our only option. However, it apparently did not work and Thrifty sent a bill to pay a fine. This is infuriating in modern times where tolls should be automatic. Being told to go to 'THRIFTYRENTALFINE' is offensive and having to pay $60 for one trip from Boulder to Denver is obscene. Unless Thrifty cleans up their act, I will avoid them in the future. Meanwhile, I will add 'EZ-Pass device' to my packing list for future trips.

However, he told me that the charge would be $430 for the reservation because they did not have the car I asked for and because he was adding on the collision insurance and all these charges that were not apparently on my original reservation. He kept saying "you need this" or "you need that." When I started to question why the price suddenly changed, he diverted the conversation without elaborating further. He also rushed me into signing the documents without going into detail about what the highlighted charges were. He also refused to speak to me, he kept directing his conversation to my partner who was NOT the one renting the car.

I felt that my right as a customer to be informed of my purchases was violated and that he was scamming me for commission. In addition, he was blatantly sexist where he outright refused to look me in the eye and SPEAK TO THE ACTUAL CUSTOMER. He kept trying to convince my partner to upgrade the car further, pointing to even more expensive rentals even though the reservation was not even in his name. I understand that selling these reservations is part of his job, but I believe he was completely out of line and believe he should be fired. I was also under the impression that this new charge of around $430 would include the original $276 that I had reserved through Priceline. He did not indicate that this was not the case even when I asked him directly. Did not realize the company ran with such deceitful policies for their employees.

None of the additional fees were explained or shown to us prior to signing - and we were told by our on site agent that everything was pre-paid, that our credit card was being run for a hood in case of damages only, and then rushed through the process and told to sign the pad but not shown what we were signing FIRST. This was an unexpected and major budgeting blow to us at almost $1400 for 7 days.

We immediately contacted Thrifty Roadside Assistance and they assigned the tow request to a company in Lahaina. After more than an hour and no updates, I was able to reach the tow company who informed me they don't service the area I am in, requiring me to call back and restart the process. In the meantime as I had 4 passengers, and no tow truck would accommodate us all, I had asked Thrifty to send transportation to pick up my family. They refused to start looking for a ride for them until a tow truck was confirmed to be on the way. When the 2nd tow truck was confirmed to be on route, they finally started putting in requests for a Lyft. However they kept sending Lyft drivers to the Lao Valley, some 50 miles away. When I contacted the Lyft drivers, none would come to my location.

In the end, they were unable to find any transport for them and they had to sit and wait for me to ride with the tow truck down the mountain, get a new vehicle, then drive back up to retrieve them. They sat on the side of the road for over 7 hours. When I returned home to Canada, we have now realized that the only cell phone that could get a signal was the one that didn't have a roaming plan, so we incurred $225 in charges calling them for help that day, that they refuse to reimburse me for. Their only offer of compensation is a $50 voucher for a future rental, that will expire in just 3 months. I have spent hours on calls with their customer service, who refuse to escalate the issue to a level where the matter could be dealt with.

I used Apple Pay to secure the reservation, Thrifty requires a physical credit card at the rental counter. (Apple issued credit card does not have the same credit card number as online Apple Pay.) Therefore my problem began with the physical card not matching the online reservation card. The agent was rude and kept saying "yeah maybe you did use Apple Pay, but the numbers don't match" despite me attempting to show him the transaction in my Apple Pay history. The manager had to be called over to clear use for a different card to be used for the reservation and this situation was resolved.

Next issue: the agent never discussed payment for tolls. I received a bill in the mail and with each $2.00 toll I was charged an Admin fee of $9.99 per transaction which totaled $59.54 and my tolls were $16.00. The Thrifty/ATS Processing removed 50% of the admin fee thus costing me double the amount I paid in tolls. I called customer service to complain and I was told the agent does not have to discuss how tolls are paid because it is in the contract (that nobody reads). Very poor business practice and I would not recommend using Thrifty.

So I get told I can go and choose any car in the certain row at the airport and my choices are a Nissan Versa and Ford Fiesta. Clearly, not B group vehicles. Whatever, no big deal at the time. I return the rental and get the receipt via email and notice that while It clearly says I reserved a B group rental and was charged for a B group, it says I received an A group car. So I reached out to customer service and have had 10+ email correspondences with them. Essentially their position is "Oops our bad" and "There's nothing we can do about you reserving and being charged for a B group and only receiving an A group car." No offer to refund the difference.

After sending several more emails stating this was an unacceptable resolution I finally was offered a $50 car rental certificate. It has been over a month and I haven't received anything from them and they just told me that they would send me another one. But, it is only good until Dec. 31, 2022. Their response to their garbage service is "Here is a coupon you might receive before it expires to use our garbage service again"? No thanks. Avoid them at all costs.

First off I needed a car with 6 seats and requested that in the booking. When I arrived they tried to push me into a larger Suburban for an additional $1500 for 3 weeks on top of what was already nearly 1,000 a week that I was already outrageously paying. They informed me that they had bought out Hertz which shocked me. Hertz has fallen. Anyway go downstairs to pick up the SUV - it's not in the spot, not in the lot!

SO go to the driver's desk downstairs and find a person. Tell her we have no car for me. We go for 10 minute walk around the lot and she then puts me into a relatively new Ford Explorer which in fairness was perfect for our needs. I had asked about tolls and they said it was baked in. I got a letter a few weeks after with that 'baked in' bit. My total tolls were $16.95 but I got a handling fee of $15 per toll for a total of 76.95.... On trying to pay online to pay my FINE not a handling fee but a FINE. You go to the ThriftyrentalFINE.com to do that but don't bother it's a POS and doesn't work. DO NOTE USE Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz - These companies are looking to scam weary and unsuspecting travelers. I landed in Orange County, CA and had reserved a vehicle for pickup. After eventually finding the front desk (buried in the depths of the parking garage), I was told they didn't have my vehicle and it would be an hour or more until it was ready. They told this to everyone ahead of me in line. From that point, they tried to "upsell" me on a better vehicle. First, they offered another vehicle for $20 more per day. When I refused, the scummy salesperson whispered "well then what price works for you?". At which point I started to realize this was a scam. I refused the upsell and all other offers. (pre-filled gas, insurance etc.) I eventually got my car about 30 minutes later.

I witnessed several other notable scummy things: Someone from Canada was told their vehicle wasn't ready but they could get something similar if they paid over $500. The exorbitant price tag was because they were from outside the US and were told there were "additional international fees". Someone reserved a Tesla Model S but was given a Model 3 and was told it was bigger than the Model S. A Model 3 is definitely smaller than an S. Consistently telling people they would have to wait an hour or more unless they went with more expensive vehicles. Suspiciously never offering a cheaper alternative. The subhuman at the front desk blatantly lying about gas prices in order to sell the pre-paid gas. The slimy bottom-feeding front desk person told another customer if they join Hertz Gold, they wouldn't have to deal with all the upselling and wait times. If you read this review and still choose one of these companies. You deserve to be scammed.

We rented a car from Thrifty Car Rental at Washington Dulles airport this summer, we traveled along the east coast and drove on some toll roads. Later we received a bill from Thrifty, but what surprised us is that there was a $15 Per TOLL administration charge on top of the toll itself. When we picked up the car, the counter agent never mentioned anything about what to expect when driving on toll roads at all, let alone disclosing the $15 PER TOLL administration charge. We complained to Thrifty about this unfair toll administration charge. The initial response from Thrifty was that we declined their toll package, which is a lie! We replied stating once again that the agent NEVER mentioned anything related to toll. This time, the response we got was such info is in the contract (fine print).

I read a lot of complaints and reviews about Thrifty's toll charge from customers who experienced the same thing as we did. With so many complaints, I am sure Thrifty is totally aware of the issue, but they kept performing their deceptive business model: attract customers with relatively low price, then add other fees as sneaky as they can. Toll charge is definitely a big chunk of their revenue, in 2019 there was a lawsuit in Florida against Thrifty regarding their toll charge, which they lost. I guess they are not too far away from their next one, but maybe they don't even care.

We thought about disputing the charge with our credit card company as our last resort of fighting against this kind of deceptive business behavior, but we didn't do it, as we learned from other reviewers this is what is going to happen after you dispute: Thrifty will ignore any communications from your credit card company, then the dispute will be in your favor, but after a little while, you will be hit with a collection charge! What kind of business does that??? It's not only deceptive, but also a robbery. The only thing to fight against them is to stay away from this company!

All customers were directed to the Hertz counter and the 2 girls took all the Hertz customers before taking the Thrifty customers. It took me 2 hrs to get a car that was already reserved and paid for, this unacceptable. In addition, the car had a toll sticker on it and I have received a bill for the tolls, which were 6.25 with admin fees of 60.00.

I told the agent that I will be returning at Regan National. He said that was not a problem. When I returned the car today, the charge is over $450!!! I have never felt more cheated in my life. I called Customer service - the guy first argued that it was within the terms of conditions to make the daily rate whatever they wanted if I returned it somewhere else. When I insisted that he point out specifically where it says so, he could not. Yet, I could not speak to a supervisor. I am only been promised a call back from a supervisor. I rented a car for a recent trip from Minneapolis airport to Iowa. I requested a Nissan Versa or similar; I got a Nissan Rogue (much larger). The interior was black and the hot steering wheel blistered my hands; the automatic shift was non-standard and I almost drove into a store by mistake. But those glitches are not disturbing.

The disturbing part is that the gas tank was nearly empty when I picked up the car -- then when I returned the car with 1/4 tank (more than it had when I picked it up), I was charged for not returning it with a full tank! Thrifty has not replied to my complaint. I will continue to pursue them for that bogus charge, and do not plan to rent from them again.

The contract says that a maximum of 9 administrative fees would be charged as a courtesy. well, I received two letters in the amount of 114$ and 102$ for the 17 tolls, thus being 17x 9.99$. We reserved a car back in February for pickup SFO last week. Was supposed to be mid-size getting 33MPG (est) and got a small SUV (compact lol) that wound up getting like 15MPG based on miles driven and gas purchased. (Bought the full tank which should have provided 375 miles per the car details and had to put $60 in it to keep from running out having driven only 302 miles!!.)

Reserved on Priceline and actual taxes paid were $45 more than on reservation. (Not counting fuel purchase Option,) and then given how absolutely crazy they were at pickup they rushed my wife thru and snuck the $150 CDW past her that she declined. OK, so not counting the CDW she should have caught they added $105 to the bill. A car reserved for about $355 cost us over $610 not counting the fuel. Exchanged several emails with "Ben" at customer service who of course held the company line and said "no credit for you!" Never again. Hertz has become just the the latest in companies that tossed their outstanding customer service out the window to hire cheap agents and ** the customers who have no recourse. Please DO NOT rent with Thrifty from the Palm Springs Airport, they will try to scam you! We rented a mid-size car for 6 days in late April online prior to arriving in Palm Springs, which we paid for in advance. When we got to the Thrifty agency to pick up our car, the Thrifty Representative said he’d be able to get us a better deal than what we received online. I told him as long as I wasn’t paying more than the original price that I’ve already paid that we would be more than happy to get a better price. He said that my original amount that I paid would be refunded on my credit card and I would just have to sign off on the new price for the rental amount.

When I wasn’t seeing the original amount refunded on my credit card, I contacted the Palm Springs Thrifty agency and told them that I wasn’t seeing a refund on my credit card that I was promised. The Representative said that the amount that I signed off on was IN ADDITION to what I already paid since the car was “upgraded” and that I signed the amount to pay the additional fees. This was an outright LIE from the Thrifty representative so he could upsell a car to us but disguise it as a “better deal” since I wouldn’t be able to see my credit card not being reimbursed until after we left. I SPECIFICALLY said I didn’t want to pay anything above the original price and he said that I wouldn’t be and this was a better deal. Please DO NOT support this type of shady business practice or at least be aware of them trying to “give you a better deal” when you pick up your car and scamming you of additional money. They have lost a customer and I hope they lose more since this was such a dishonest way to make an extra buck.

I rented car from Thrifty at Orlando Airport for 2 weeks. After driving about 4 hours a red light flashed saying to have vehicle inspected. I called and was told don't worry about it! Another day the check engine light came on so I called again, same response! Eventually the passenger seat alarm flashed and chimed with nothing in the seat. The cruise control and the GPS worked intermittently flashing different screens. I called once again for a replacement vehicle and was told to drive 1 1/2 hours to Augusta Airport and go to the Hertz Rental booth?? I asked why not Thrifty and the young lady said, "That's what you have to do!" Hmmm.

OK I make the truck to Augusta. I go to Hertz and explain my situation, he refers me to Thrifty two booths down. I go to Thrifty and the lady said they couldn't switch out the car because the Thrifty in Orlando Is Corporate owned and they aren't. I demanded they call and get it taken care of. She says, "Even if we could we don't have any cars available." I said, "I just parked in your rental lot and there are 27 clean Thrifty cars sitting there." Still wouldn't do anything. I called roadside assistance and explained and was told unless the car was unrivaled they could do nothing. I was driving in pouring rain one day and the car was hydroplaning bad even at 40 mph. Everyone was passing me. I got up the next morning to leave my hotel and as I approached the car I noticed the front tires were bald below the wear bars and terribly dry rotted. Now I call again to say the car is not safe to drive. "I want you to bring me another car." Same story.. "We can't!"

Upon returning the VW Jetta to Thrifty the day of departure I told the Thrifty guy at the drop off about the issues and that it's not safe to drive due to the numerous issues.. I had a 5 hourglass over so I'm in no hurry. I walk away and sat down where I can see the car.. I watch them prep the car and rent it out to another unsuspecting customer..I go to the Thrifty booth and tell them they are sending out an unsafe car. They totally blew me off and out the car went. I have pictures of the gauges, dash warning lights and the front bald tires. I have called corporate with no satisfaction and have looked everywhere for a Customer Service. Finally having found one and called. They didn't care.. I honestly hope no one was injured after I returned the car.

Let me start out by saying that Thrifty sent me a survey, which I took the time to answer (giving them low marks); they responded with a cookie-cutter reply that they were sorry they did not exceed my expectations. How is that for being glad-handed? I wrote them back and asked if they could make good on the money they cheated me out of. No reply. I wrote back and asked if they were going to reply. No reply. So, I am writing this.

Through Travelocity, I reserved a luxury car with Thrifty, "Chrysler 300 or similar". When I arrived to pick it up, they told me they did not have one but would put me in a compact car--at $25 a day MORE. I was out of town, an infrequent traveler, and had already waited in line for 45 minutes. I should have put up more of a fight, but I thought, "Well, if they don't have one, they don't have one...so what's the point of arguing?" So I wound up paying about $450 over what I had budgeted.

On the receipt I am uploading, it only shows the $454.99 (listed as an "UPGRADE" fee plus taxes, etc). The amount I had paid Travelocity is not on this receipt. This is the amount I was cheated out of. Thrifty ripped me off, and showed me no courtesy in addressing my concerns. My advice? Do not trust, or do business, with Thrifty. You will be sorry, if you do.

The operator apparently had no clue as to the distance involved. Instead, we asked for a Lyft ride to our hotel, which we arrived at 12:30 am.

As instructed, we left the car unlocked at the gas station with the key under the passenger side mat. Needless to say, this experience was very stressful. The operator on the line was very surly when we complained about having to retrieve a new car from a location 30 miles away at what was now approaching midnight. They should have delivered the car to the location where we got stuck with the Thrifty rental.

While I was sleeping that night, I got a voice mail from the AAA tow truck driver inquiring about where the key fob was. I left it under the passenger side seat as instructed by the 25 Hour Road service operator. I did not answer this call as I was sleeping. At 1:46 am on Monday February 14th, I received a text message that the road service was complete.

For the past two days, I have received two additional text messages threads from Thrifty Roadside saying the road service is on the way and that the road service is complete. Very confusing! I called the customer service number on February 14th to ask for a refund of our rental fee. They informed me that nothing could be done until the car was returned to the rental location… and that they did not know where the car was. I have followed up with multiple calls since and received the same answer.

This morning I got a call from Hertz Vehicle Control. They left me a very threatening voice mail message saying it is urgent that I return the vehicle today to avoid repossession at my expense and permanent suspension of my rental privileges. Unbelievable since the vehicle has been possessed by Thrifty since it was towed on February 13th. It is obvious that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing and that the customer is left holding the bag.

I arrived at counter and explained that my reservation is the same as I booked it and no add ons. I was stressed about arriving at the funeral on time. I signed not realizing that I was charged over $30 more for my rental. My only concern at the time was getting across town to my aunt's funeral. While waiting I saw that my arrival time to the funeral will be late.

Now I was really stressed because I had to MC a part of the wake. I signed and left and later realized I was charged $189. Which included insurance for car and all other coverages which I didn’t ask for. The agent never asked me if I wanted more than the coverage to protect the car. Again I only wanted the reservation I booked to protect the car. I went to counter to dispute and was turned away on 1/16/22. I was told I signed so that’s it. 2 weeks prior I was charged 10 dollars more 2 weeks prior on another rental which I never got refund back for that. I will never use this company again. I feel that I was charged on purpose to make more money.

The night shift manager assigned to Denver, Colorado's Airport location needs Cultural Diversity, Customer Service, Conflict Resolution, Ethics, and Frontline Leadership training, just to name a few. This manager is the most unprofessional individual I've ever come across all my years of renting cars. This "manager" started yelling and slammed his hand on the desk trying to intimidate me and my family. Simply because we wanted to ratify the overpayment issue. He could not contain his composure in front of staff and customers. I questioned would we have gotten the same treatment if we were not **.

The discuss in this man eyes when we told him we were not leave made him nearly jump the counter at us; his staff had to hold him back. I reserved my car reservation through AAA for a Thrifty/Dollar car rental in Tampa, FL. My car was a Hyundai Elantra that has about a 14 gallon tank and I was renting it for 3 days, driving to Zephyrhills. I was given the option to pay for gas instead of having to fill up the tank and it sounded like a good idea. However, I wasn't told that I was actually prepaying for a full tank of gas, no matter how much I used. There's no way I would have done that, considering I wasn't going far and wouldn't be using the car once I reached my destination. I've paid for gas before and they have always only charged for what I used at the airport price per gallon. I also wasn't shown the bill; it was emailed to me after I left the airport. The additional charge was $52.49!

When I brought the car back (only 1/4 tank was used), I tried to talk to the manager. He wouldn't budge. I came home and called them; they kept me on the phone for almost 1/2 hour and kept putting me on hold. When they'd return to the conversation, they'd relay back incorrect name, address, rental record#, etc. They were clearly trying to give me the runaround on the phone too. I then called AAA and Cori contacted them to no avail. They only said that they agreed that all information should be given at the counter and would educate their associates. Never again will I rent from Thrifty/Dollar because of the poor way they handle complaints.

Can't express enough how awful and unethical this company is. They totally scammed me. I had made a reservation through a third-party service (Hotwire) and the guy at the counter in Atlanta went into the usual upgrade song and dance. I usually just decline, but in this case I needed a little extra space, so I listened. The guy showed me a number on his screen: $769. He represented that would be the total I'd pay on what was originally a $560 reservation. I thought $200 more was doable. But no! The upgrade was actually $769 ON TOP OF the original $560—in other words, more than double what I had already paid. When I figured out later what happened, I demanded they make good on an obviously deceptive transaction. They grudgingly (after hours of my time and effort) refunded half of the $769, but they wouldn't honor my request to refund everything except the upgrade I was told I was paying for. All I can say is: Lesson learned. Never again.

Much to my dismay, when I went to return the car I got charged 3 days at $53/day for the original rental (that I never drove), then I got charged another 3 days at $75/day for the upgrade, so it cost me $516 to rent a beat-up Infiniti QX60 for 3 days!!!!

However if you happen to unknowingly travel along a toll road instead of simply charging the fine to your card which they have on file, they will tack on a fee 4 times the cost of the toll and wait several days before mailing a notice that you have to pay an exorbitant fee via a tedious online interface. Will be explicitly looking for this in the future and this has soured my opinion of this company as it appears a deceitful way to skim money off renters.

The woman at the counter not only charged me for things I said no to but she also charged me for gas when I returned it with a full tank. I called Customer Service and they gave me the run around, they said the only way the charges can be credited is if you call the specific location. The JFK Federal Circle location does not have a direct line. I sat on hold being transferred to various people for 2.5 hours. Finally got in touch with Raul who noticed the overcharge for the gas so thankfully credited that. He said he could not refund the other charges so I reached out to Customer Relations and haven't heard back.

I rented a car from Thrifty at Denver Airport (24890 E 78th Ave, Denver, CO 80249). While the car was fine and customer service appeared to be adequate, about a month after the rental, I received a bill from Thriftyrentalfine.com. We had gone through several tolls in Colorado during our time there (6 to be exact), all under $5 each, totaling just over $20. The bill was for $100.65 as Thrifty assessed "Admin Fees" of $15 per toll charge for $90 in fees. You can't pay tolls live in Colorado as there are no booths. So, they take a picture of your license and send it to the registration address (Thrifty) who pays the tolls and then charges you a ridiculous amount.

When I called customer service, and explained that there was no way for me to have avoided these fees (as you can't pay tolls live), then I could have signed up for their "Platepass" all-inclusive toll program. This would be to pay a flat daily fee to cover all tolls (I think it was $15/day; for us that would have been $105 for a week). So, there was NO POSSIBLE WAY to just pay the tolls...unless you knew to contact the Colorado toll authority and open an account with them and call them to give them the license plate number of the car and your address so they can bill you directly.

Of course, NONE OF THIS INFORMATION was given to me when I picked up the car (some of it was buried deep in the rental agreement). But, this seems to me to be information you would tell customers so they can avoid unnecessary charges...unless you don't want them to know so that the company makes more with their two possible solutions. This is highly deceitful. I don't know if this was just this particular Thrifty or the company as a whole that has a policy of keeping customers in the dark. Will NEVER rent from Thrifty again.

We sat with our exhausted children until finally I went back up to see when the car would arrive, only to have this incompetent representative, tell me that and I quote, "We are not going to rent a car to you!" He then proceeded to hide behind the door refusing to explain why?!!! I have never seen anything like this in my life! FORTUNATELY WE WENT TO BUDGET AND GOT A RENTAL IMMEDIATELY FOR HALF THE QUOTED COST!!!! A manager came out and said that they could not rent to us, since PEPE (who is a huge menacing man) was threatened by the manner that my husband asked his questions??? Both of these men should be fired. They lost over $3000 that day and Thrifty lost customers for life!

Handed to agent reservation confirmation and credit card, just to be handed back credit card couple of minutes later with statement that card was denied? Did provide another several cards between me and my spouse just to have them all being denied? Asked for slip that comes after card was denied and found that agent was asking credit card to approve $15000, - for deposit. I did asked agent why is he requesting such a high amount, I will not buy car. I am renting and will return it week later. He said I can buy insurance from him for another $160 then I can rent a car???

As I said car was reserved with a credit card submitted. Never experience something like this. Refuse to pick up car and rent it from another rental agency with no problem, .... Upon returning in to USA, however found that I was charged for rental which I never had. Call my credit card and provide documents and evidence related to transaction and they found in transaction history denied request for $15000 and disputed rental amount. Did contact Thrifty and send similar complaint to them and have never heard of them. It appear that Thrifty approves actions and ideas of their "smart" not so honest agents. Just to share this with other travelers that may need to rent a car. Be aware and cautious with Thrifty Car Rentals.

We rented the car online and picked up at Tampa Int'l Airport late on a Thursday evening when our plane arrived. As we got in we immediately noticed the seats felt wet and there was an odor but we were exhausted and everything was closing so we decided to just deal with it. As we drove out of the garage then we notice the car has a bad tire noise or something underneath. We debated on turning around but still so tired, we entered the freeway and got up to speed and realised it wasn't safe any longer to continue driving the car, so we turned around and took it back. When we returned only one office was still open in the rental garage (Hertz - who owns Thrifty). The young lady in the garage was super helpful and traded us out of that car into a very nice rental that worked great. HOWEVER, when we received our billing statement they have charged us $250 for KEYS/PARTS.

When I call- (5 times now) no one can help and they keep saying they are transferring me and after holding for no less than 15 mins each time, it hangs up on me. When I tell the next operator what has happened, they say sorry and that this is the only way to help me. SO, after two days of calling, I still have had no help. And they still have a $250 fee that is absurd! They should pay me for my inconvenience. We left all keys with their garage employees. RIDICULOUS! I have emailed the survey company (they send after your rental) and emailed corporate for help.... and NOTHING! THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF RENTAL CAR SERVICE EVER! I rented a car out of Denver, CO in August 2021 via a third party (pre-paid). I will say the process seemed very smooth. We made small talk with the woman at the counter, who was very kind. She offered me insurance on the vehicle which I declined. I told her that my insurance company covers rental vehicles and I had no need to purchase insurance. I then handed her my credit card to keep on file in case of damages or things of that nature, signed for the rental, and picked out a car. The car was clean and ran smoothly. The return process was also a breeze. We dropped the car off with a full tank of gas, running and hopped on a shuttle back to the airport. We were told that we would get a receipt emailed to us- great!

A few days later I noticed a strange charge to my credit card from Thrifty. I took photos of the vehicle so I know there were no damages, and I know I filled up the tank before returning as instructed. After spending some time on hold with customer service (Charlie, employee ID **), I was told that this charge (an additional $213.85!!) was for insurance and because I agreed to it they could not remove it. I kindly told Charlie that I did not agree to it and specifically told the woman at the counter that I declined the insurance so the charge made no sense. Why would I pay TWICE for something?! Anyone in their sane state of mind would know better than that. He said by signing the contract I agreed to the charges and they would not remove it. Charlie was very nice and just doing his job however I am coming here to WARN all others! PLEASE do not rent with this company unless you are prepared to pay double compared to what you think you would be charged.

I have never written a poor review in my life so this is a first for me. I'm extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service and the deceitfulness by Thrifty Rentals. A little honesty goes a long way, please try and remember that when interacting with your customers. Unfortunately, I will not be renting with this company again. Hopefully this review will prevent the same thing from happening to someone else.

Rarely write reviews of companies. Rented car from Thrifty out of O'Hare and told that liability coverage was mandatory - charged extra $188. Reviewed car rental policies in Chicago and later talked to their representatives - no such coverage was mandatory. The service person also automatically put on collision coverage until we saw it on the itemized list and requested it be removed. What is worse is that I talked to them during the vacation about the inappropriate upcharge - with the rental car and was told that I should just discuss this with Thrifty on returning the car. Returned the car, told that I had to wait for the receipt. Left the car, receipt showed the same charges. Called their service number - told that they have no way of reversing the charge, even though they agreed that the charge was inappropriate. Gave me the number to the headquarters.

Called headquarters - given the same assurances that the charges were inappropriate and they would send the complaint onto their consumer affairs department and I would receive an email and satisfactory resolution - in 48 hours. Week plus has passed, no word/no email. This is a longstanding problem and this company has been part of a class action suit. **.

After reserving and prepaying for our car rental 2 months ahead of time, and flying 5 hours in from New York to Phoenix, we arrived at the Thrifty Car Rental at the airport about 9pm to see a long line and managers talking to everyone telling them that there would be a 3 hour wait (at least) because they had no cars. There was no offer to pay for transportation to a hotel, no offer of a refund, nothing. Just that there was nothing they could do. We paid an Uber to get to our hotel (Family of 6 with a lot of luggage). Next morning, I called to confirm there was a minivan available --was told 4 times, yes, absolutely. So, my husband and I arrive at the the rental place, to be told there would be an hour wait. (MANY other people were being told the same, and the line was out the door.) We asked to speak to a manager 3 times, manager never showed up, and the person working there was rude.

After finally getting our car, we were overcharged (charged $300 for insurance we never asked for and were charged AGAIN for fees we already prepaid). We went down to the area where you get the cars, and after asking to see a manager 3X, had to go out and search one down on our own. Finally found one, and he was rude. Found another one...FINALLY someone who restored my faith in humanity. His name is Jesus, and was very friendly, accommodating, and calm. He removed all of the overcharges and refunded our $60 Uber payment, no problem. I wish I was able to speak to him first. I will NEVER use Thrifty again, but I am so thankful for Jesus being there that day (August 2021).

After arriving at the Denver airport on 6/26 2021 after a lengthy plane delay due to weather I was frustrated at the long wait for our car. Although we were only one of three people there the computer system and agent were struggling with the paperwork. I was very tired and I got "upsold" to the next car level since the agent suggested it would be safer based on our journey which included driving through mountains. It was very late, dark, and we got to inspect the car with the lot agent who had a flashlight. The car was disgustingly dirty. As we left I realize the window was so greasy that I had trouble seeing out. I ask the agent at the checkpoint for a paper towel to wipe windows.

As we got into Denver it started to rain and I realized the car was hydroplaning and the wipers were useless. It was very dangerous and I could not see. In the morning, after a harrowing journey the night before, I realized the tire were worn to the wear bars and had little tread. This is when I attempted to contact customer service which, I now realize, does not really exist. I waited on hold for 30 minutes, filled in an electronic query, and continued to try to call, email, or contact anyone for our entire trip.

As of today I still have no response. I had to have the car cleaned so we could actually use it and see out the windows and spent the week terrified whenever it rained. We also missed some destinations since there was possible snow at higher elevations and we could not risk it with bald tires. I will never rent from Thrifty again and will do what I can to inform others so they avoid this experience (in reading the other one star rating there seems to be a trend).

After I returned the vehicle and flew home, Thrifty charged my credit card $391. I explained I had declined it and could show them the booking confirmation. They said “no one made a note you didn’t want it” and offered to refund me $50. When I said that would not be an acceptable solution I was told a supervisor would call me right back because they were currently on another call. I rented an SUV type car for Florida for one week and every day there seemed to be more problems with the car. The car wouldn't start randomly and would have to try to restart over and over again. This caused us to be late for major family functions, and when we tried to call Thrifty and tell them about our issues they told us they would deal with it when we returned the car.

So basically use a car with issues and we'll address it when you don't need the car anymore? Things took a turn for the worse on our last day. The car wouldn't start at all and we had to buy jumper cables to jump-start it. Once we finally got it to start (about an hour later) all of the electronics stopped working in the car. No blinkers, no radio, the trunk wouldn't open, and of course no AC. We had to leave for the airport shortly and we had a baby with us. The baby couldn't be in a car in Florida with no AC with the temperature at 95 degrees.

We had to rely on someone else to drive others and the baby to the airport while we drove about an hour to the airport with no AC and worried we would be pulled over for no blinkers. We were sweating and it got to be so hot in the car that my phone was telling me to turn it off because it was getting overheated. When we got to the airport the manager at Thrifty wouldn't meet with my husband in person but made him wait 30 minutes before telling him that. The guy at the counter (who was helpful) took our name and number and gave us the manager's email address and said the manager would call us. He never called us. My husband was finally able to speak with someone and asked for a refund. They gave us $100 off and gave us $100 in a Thrifty gift card. Why would we ever use them again for rental? They refused to refund us anything else. We will never use Thrifty again.

This is a time that needs, no requires, a zero star rating option. I will never again use Thrifty Car Rental or Dollar Car Rental again in my life. What an absolute unmitigated disaster of an experience it was. A total failure in customer service and management. Over 100 people in line. Out of the 12 work stations available there were only 4 employees working. Customer service reps arguing with customers. Stood in line for two and a half hours just to be told that it would be another hour wait to get my car once I got to the counter. After being in line for that long and searching on other companies websites while I waited to see if they had anything available, which unfortunately they did not, I was out of options.

The customer service rep quoted me a price that was three times that I have reserved the car for. Regardless of him being able to find my information he insisted that it was only a security hold on my credit card. After going back and forth about the lack of clarity on pricing from Thrifty Car Rental and the aforementioned train wreck that I was apart of I just wanted to be able to get my car and leave. When it came time to actually process my credit card the customer service rep swiped it abruptly 5x insisting that there was an issue with the machine and that's how it needed to be done. Which of course my credit card company immediately flagged it and froze the card.

Instead of letting me call my credit card company and explain what was going on so that they can clear up the issue and I could get my rental car, the system that Thrifty and dollar use blocks out that particular card so that it cannot be used to get a car from Thrifty or Dollar for another 24 hours. What to do at this point? Other car rental companies throughout the city had closed and the other car rental companies at the airport were completely sold out. So now I'm stuck. I ultimately just sucked it up and spent $300 on an Uber to get to my destination. Thrifty and Dollar Car Rental at the Atlanta Airport are an absolute embarrassment to their company name and as a whole to the car rental industry. I'm the CFO of my company and we are always looking to try and save money on travel for the employees but after what I went through we will just stick with our usual "go to".

We did a lot of price comparisons before renting a car in Seattle. We were traveling in May 2021 from Seattle down the coastline then driving to Colorado and returning the vehicle at the airport. We decided on a compact car (factoring gas prices). We secured a price of $845 with Travelocity and left a deposit. We had a 12:00 pm pickup. When we arrived at the airport we had to wait over one hour in line. There were four people in front of us. When we finally made it to the counter we were told that they didn't have our reserved vehicle available. They offered us a vehicle that could not possibly make it up the hills and high elevations that we intended to visit. The best they could do was upgrade us at an additional cost of $250. I don't consider that an upgrade. We had no choice since we were carless and on a schedule. Cars are difficult to rent these days (COVID) and I felt that Thrifty took advantage of us.

Secondly, we were never offered Plate Pass or even told how it works only to find out three states later that because of Covid all tolls are cashless. We didn't have the Plate Pass so there was a $15.00 fee from Thrifty every time you used a toll road on top of the toll. I read up on the tolls. If you drove through a toll and didn't have that particular's state Toll Pass they would mail you the toll and you would simply pay it. No fees tagged on. BUT since the vehicle is registered to Thrifty the toll charge goes directly to Thrifty and they tag an administrative fee of $15.00 per toll right to your credit card. Knowing that we were traveling a great distance this should have been mentioned.

Thirdly, we also had an issue with the vehicle's Apple Car Play. We lost the maps and Apple Car Play would not load. We called customer service and waited over two hours for someone to pick up. Finally when we were connected they told us there was nothing they could do about it. Our only choice was to drive one hour out of our way to an airport where Thrifty is located and swap the vehicle. We called the airport and was disconnected twice. When I finally got through we realized we were back to the original customer service and they told us we would have to rent a new vehicle at the new rate and that customer service at the airport would have to make adjustments. We decided to go without Apple Car Play which was an inconvenience when traveling through unfamiliar areas.

I would never recommend Thrifty to anyone. Terrible customer service. A total rip-off. Charging for upgrades because they cannot accommodate the customer is unacceptable. But they got you....You need the vehicle, so pay up or go carless. We traveled to many areas and have received emails asking for reviews on lodging, restaurants, entertainment. We gladly gave them our honest opinions. Thrifty never bothered to follow up. They know exactly what they are doing. Don’t rent from Thrifty.

Unlike other car Rental companies that scurry you through the rental process and get you quickly re-engaged into a hectic lifestyle, Thrifty provides you with hours of waiting-in-line time, giving you a chance to slow down and reflect on your life choices. It's a perfect time for introspection. My wife and I recently had an opportunity to spend over 3 hours of quality reflection time at the Atlanta airport while waiting in line while two service agents handled a very large multitude of customers. Actually, she waited in line while I waited with other travelers in a sort of makeshift refugee camp. (Thrifty KNOWS long lines better than anyone in the business, so expertly advised that only one person per party wait in line for service.) Overall, it was quite an unforgettable experience that I can't recommend. Enough.

I will never rent through Thrifty ever again when they have agents that prey upon people like this.

I rented an SUV from Thrifty from June 23rd to July 1st from the Fort Lauderdale International airport through a 3rd party. We specified a 7-seater with 4 large bags. The vehicle offered to us may have seated 7 but had room for only 3-4 small bags. When we requested the larger vehicle we had specified and reserved, we were told we would have to pay $250 extra for the extra-large vehicle. As this was too expensive, we had to accept a Tahoe which would seat 7 with 3 small bags or 5 people and 3-4 large bags. When we left the next morning, we immediately ran into a rainstorm. Turns out the windshield wipers had apparently not been changed for some time as the passenger side had the top half of the rubber missing and the driver side about 1/3 missing, with the rubber piece just hanging on. This made it extremely difficult to see in a downpour, besides being extremely dangerous.

Once the rain stopped, we were able to accelerate to motorway speeds between 70 and 80 mph. This was the second major surprise; the front end began to vibrate once these speeds were reached and did not stop until we slowed down to about 65 mph. As we were driving over 1000 miles to south Louisiana, an average of 65 mph was not feasible. Either the front end needed alignment or the wheels needed balancing, another issue which should have been taken care of before the vehicle was rented out. It is irritating to drive long distances with the car vibrating the entire time.

Once we arrived at our destination in Southwest Louisiana, I called Thrifty Customer Service to see about replacing the vehicle with another one without these mechanical issues. Turns out that Thrifty does not have a rental center in Lake Charles, the nearest being Lafayette, 70 miles away. Called them but was informed they do not handle large SUVs at this center. The next nearest is in New Orleans, 250 miles away.

Next tried Customer Service again to find out how to get Thrifty’s roadside assistance to replace the defective wipers. They connected to the roadside assistance but, after waiting over 60 minutes with no response other than please wait, your call is important to us, you will be waiting upon by the next available ... blah-blah-blah, I hung up. Luckily, I was not sitting on the side of a major freeway with large trucks whizzing by. Tried to contact roadside assistance 2-3 time more over the next day or so and finally gave up. Ended up going to an Advanced Auto Parts store and purchased the new wipers at a cost of $61.69. Won’t bother to provide details on how difficult it is to change them out. Even called Hertz, Thrifty’s mother firm, but they refused to accept any responsibility.

When we returned the vehicle to the rental counter at Fort Lauderdale airport, we were informed that Thrifty does not reimburse costs on vehicles that are prepaid through a 3rd party and that we would have to contact customer service. We have tried for two days but get the same response: "Please wait, your call is important to us, you will be waiting upon by the next available..." blah-blah-blah, and on and on. Will update this review once we are able to talk to someone from Thrifty’s Customer Service, who is just about as difficult to reach as their roadside assistance.

Avoid Thrifty, but also their parent Hertz and their subsidiary Dollar at all costs! I rented a car from Thrifty to attend a funeral. I returned the car a couple days early and my rate nearly doubled! I tried resolving over the phone with numerous calls and emails spending at least 2 hours trying to get any resolution, but they only conceded to $15 off a $546 rental bill OR 15% off my next rental, not both, which is ridiculous. I completed a survey and "Angela" reached out to me saying she opened a case **, that she once said "Your case will not go unresolved" but it was never even followed up on after numerous emails on my part.

Rented from Thrifty 6/11. Extended the rental twice. The first portion of the rental was charged and paid through Priceline. The extension was authorized by my bank and the amount was noted as "pending". The car was adequate and return was easy. However, when I checked my bank account for the charge, I saw that an additional $275 was charged.

After almost A WEEK on the phone, it became clear that the original authorized amount had not been accessed by Thrifty in a timely fashion and the bank had removed the authorization. Thrifty billed $275 of the total amount leaving a balance of $147.+. I've been trying to pay this balance for days but am now told that I disputed the amount with my bank (not true) and so I can't pay the balance but that it will be sent to collections. Absolutely outrageous. This is a Thrifty error and despite hours on hold and talking to various reps who can't help me, I am still trying to pay them. Will never use Thrifty again and advise all to use any other rental company. A nightmare.

On the first call after about 45 minutes I was told the car was dirty and that charge was for cleaning. After I requested to speak with a manager they disconnected me. Called back about 1 hour later and was told by someone else that there were cigarettes all over the car. Both my wife and I are nonsmokers, and my two adult children never smoke in their life. I asked to speak with a supervisor again and was told to leave my number and receive a call back in ten minutes. I am still waiting. Called back a third time about an hour later and had the same results. Finally contacted my bank and credit card and put a hold on payment. This company tries to rob you right to your face. I will no longer be doing business with Thrifty anymore. Enterprise is a straight shooter where Thrifty appears to try and rob you with fees and taxes. If you have no other choice, be sure to read the fine print. Car was fine, everything else went well. I rented a vehicle from Thrifty online through a third party—Hotwire—securing my vehicle reservations. Once we arrive to the car rental company located at the MSY airport in New Orleans, we stand in line for nearly an hour to be notified, “… We ain’t got no more cars.”

So I asked the young man why didn’t they have a sign up notifying people there were no longer any cars available. He responded, “…well that’s what we here for.” I asked him, “…for what, for people to waste their time when they could be seeking other means of transportation?” The customer representative just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. This is disgusting and horrible. I will be posting this review anywhere it can be viewed. Thrifty you are horrible and you couldn’t care less about your customers.

Overall my rental process was average, there wasn't a long wait, the car was in fine condition. Upon returning home I noticed that only half of what I thought was the deposit hold had fallen off my bank statement and that I had been charged an additional $200. Looking back at the rental documents loss damage coverage that I did not agree to had been added. I had declined the additional coverage in person picking up the vehicle because I am covered on my personal insurance.

Then, after going through my options to which I said no, I had to sign. It was one of those pin pads for signing that don't show you the full waiver, but just leave a small box for your signature. I called customer service, after not hearing back from my first inquiry for a week, and was told because I signed there's nothing they would do. I get it, lesson learned, always double check, but still a shady practice and answer for customer service to say, "Welp, you signed it." I'll never use this company again.

Coby, at Thrifty's GEG Car Rental provided EXEMPLARY Customer Service. Like a bright, shining lighthouse beacon to a lost ship - LONG AFTER Thrifty's closing time of 12:30am, and with no confirmation that I would still be taking the rental (not factoring in my 2½ hour flight delay out of Denver, the "system" had already given away my vehicle!) - Coby greeted me at the counter with a huge smile, charisma and SOLUTIONS. There were no more compact cars available. With patience, kindness and creativity he calmed a somewhat frizzed 67 year old gal down, set me up with a car I could be comfortable with, and earned my EXTREME GRATITUDE. Thanks and huge KUDOS go to Coby, and cred to Thrifty for hiring such a gem.

The back story: Flying from Tampa, with connections in Austin and Denver - there was a 2½ hour flight delay on the final leg - not landing us in Spokane until AFTER 1am, instead of the anticipated 10:30pm. The rental car counter closed at 12:30am, and I had resigned myself to sleeping at the airport until Thrifty reopened at 6am. After the initial flight delay of what was supposed to be only an hour, I actually HAD attempted to call Thrifty's toll free number, only to hear "Our office is closed. Please call back on the next business day." (Ugh.) LESSON LEARNED here… I should have dug deeper, as Thrifty at GEG has a direct (509) 838-8223. (Duh.) So…. sending gratitude to COBY… I wish joy, health, vitality and contentment to you and all whom you cherish. You are #1 in my book!

Please take a few minute to read this review I am writing this to save others from the stress that I have endured with this rental, also to save others money. I booked a Thrifty rental online with Priceline. This was done 3 months in advance. When I arrived in Orlando on May 21, 2021 I waited in a line that was 1.5 hours long to get my rental. After a 3 hour Red Eye, you can imagine the state we were all in, tired, anxious, hungry, etc. When it was my turn to arrive at the counter I was asked about liability insurance which I had declined in my initial online reservation. I declined it. I was told by the counter agent that I had to accept the insurance or I could not rent the vehicle. I disputed this saying that the website gave me the option to decline the insurance, he said well that is the website, not Thrifty. He then told me if I were to rent today it would cost $1500.00, not sure what that had to do with anything but that is what he said.

I was trying to look online at what the original reservation stated, he then said you have a long line of people behind you do you want to rent the car or not? I was terrified we were not going to get the rental, especially when the girl next to me was crying because she could not rent as they didn't accept her credit card, and when she offered cash they said they would not accept that either. I've called Thrifty numerous times about this issue and I get the same response and runaround every time. There is nothing we can do.

I've since read reviews about this very same issue and please BELIEVE EVERY WORD!!!! Today I open my mail, after declining their offer for a toll pass, to a bill for $70.00!!! I paid cash for all tolls while in Florida. The total tolls I "missed" according to Thrifty was $10.62. Thrifty is charging an additional $59.54 in administrative charges!!!! Please if you work hard and value your money to not rent from Thrifty/Dollar. Good luck getting anyone on the phone as well. I have spent about ten hours trying to reach someone and when I finally do, they all say the same thing - tough luck or they literally pick up and then hang up on you. Expensive lesson learned.

By far the worst experience I have ever dealt with. I got off our 4.5 hr. flight from D.C to SLC, Utah and went to pick up the car we already paid for, a month in advance. The line to pick up the car was insane. All the other rental car lines, were going fast as can be. I wish I cancelled my order and went to another company. Our line was at a standstill. There were 2 workers there, and pretty sure one was a trainee. She had to get up and ask the other woman a question during every customer. Then the one lady went to lunch for an hour (Not saying that she doesn't deserve a lunch break, but for an hour when the lines were so backed up??). The line we stood in took us 3.5 hours just to pick it up, with a 9 month old and 6 year old.

Once I got to the front, the woman at the desk was so rude. She offered me insurance. I informed her that I already paid $15/day for insurance. She informed me that, that insurance was only for liability and if I wanted full coverage it would cost me an additional $18/day!!! I told her, that is correct. I told her that I already paid it and if there was any issues they WILL take care of it. She then told me I was acting like a quack. I couldn't believe it. I never raised my voice or screamed, I just stated, that I already paid for it, and it better be covered. If I ever treated a customer like that at my work, I would be fired! Either way, I left and had the most amazing trip of my life. I returned the rental car, and got on my flight.

Two days later I get a statement for $300 saying they needed to clean the outside of the car. I was floored. I called the number on the invoice, and asked what this charge was for. She said it was to clean it. I advised her that, there was nothing wrong with the car, except a few bug splatters on the windshield, which I can't control. She said "The cleaners said it was not in the shape it was picked up in." I informed her that I dropped the car off in perfect shape, that there were only a few bug splatters on the windshield. She said " Sorry, there is no disputing this, and the charges stand". I asked to speak w/ a manager because I cannot believe this! She said there is no one to speak with and if I want to complain some more, then to take it up w/ the airport staff where I picked the car up at.

I called the location and waited on hold for 4 hours, then someone picked up the phone and hung up quickly. I wish I read the reviews before renting from this company. I will NEVER EVER EVER rent from this company again. If there are no other rental cars around, I will Uber everywhere I need to go. This was by far the worst experience I have ever dealt with. Thankfully, the rest of the vacation was an absolute dream, so that made up for this dreadful experience.

I was not given any information on why the rate changed, except that the other customer service rep must have made a mistake, however, they would not honor his mistake because the computer would not let them. The customer service rep just kept repeating the same thing. Also when I picked up the car I was conned into paying $11 extra a day after stating I did not want additional insurance coverage. I have to look into it further, but they are also breaking the law with this bait and switch.

Being an Army Veteran, I served my country with Honor and Honesty, waiting for companies like Thrifty Car Rental to do the same for our country, but from what I see it is that they have dedicated themselves to taking advantages of our citizens, and the truth is that I do not find fair, especially in these moments in which we find ourselves emerging from this horrible pandemic. This is my story.

On April 29, 2021.... I rented a car online with Thrifty car rental, the same day I pay in full ($539.47). On May 7th 2021. I went to pick up the car at Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida State, the associated or customer service offered me various services such as The Sunpass to avoid extra charges on tolls, Which I declined to take it, he also offered me the payment of gas (fuel) in advance. Which also I declined. But when this associate offered me the Car insurance by Thrifty Rental Car, I told him that I declined it, that I will use my own insurance.

Seconds later, concluding the transaction, this "gentleman" told me the for the delivery the car that I was renting, I must sign the screen, which I signed without knowing that they included $441.87 for the car insurance provided by Thrifty car rental. Now that I called them to make the claim, and in a few words they told me that next time I need to pay more attention at the time to signed deals. In my opinion, this company should not take advantage with DIRTY MOVES to cheat of its clients.

RE: Rental Record **. Absolutely horrible! Worst experience EVER with a rental car company. First, myself and many, many other customers, had to wait over 2 hours, in line, at the Orlando airport, with luggage, with masks on, with small children, etc before being assisted on Sunday, 5/02. Such poor customer service, this company should be ashamed! It seems to be very obvious why this company lacks help, good help, if they make people wait as long as they do in order for customers to do business with you.

We decided to extend our vacation, so I contacted the number on my rental record at the bottom, which says, "Rental Extensions/Changes or Emergency Road Service 1-877-283-0898". I called at 9:34am on 5/07 and I waited on hold approx. 8 minutes, had to hang up due to reservations we made, and decided I would call back later… You’d think it’d be quick and easy when you want to give more money to your company. Pitiful. Called again at 2:47pm on 5/07, and got the extension taken care of. I received a confirmation email showing the new, approx. rental charge was $842.10. Next, about half way through my rental agreement, the vehicle doesn't start.

At that time, I was visiting family about 2.5 hours away from where I staying. The problem seemed to be a bad or dead battery. I let it sit for a bit and made sure anything that could drain the battery was off, lights, radio, etc. It started and I drove it 2.5 hours back, thinking that should be enough time for the battery to charge, but when I got back and turned the car off and tried to start it again…it would not start. I was in for the night, so decided to call for assistance in the morning. I called the number on my rental record, at the bottom, which says, “Rental Extensions/Changes or Emergency Road Service 1-877-283-0898". I called at 10:25am on 5/10, waited on the line for approx. 20 minutes before being advised the wait from there on would be at least 40 minutes… Again, having reservations for the day, as I was on vacation, I had to inconvenience a family member for a ride because I was paying for a car that wasn’t working!

Still trying to enjoy my vacation, I called the number on my rental record, at the bottom, which says, “Rental Extensions/Changes OR Emergency Road Service 1-877-283-0898. I had to wait each time to reach a representative, who then told me I needed to speak to a Roadside Assistance Specialist and proceeded to transfer me... This call was made at 7:19pm on 5/10. I’m transferred to the Roadside team and there was a wait of over an hour! I was on this call a total of 1 hour 24 minutes! This is horrible, horrible service... How do you justify making customers wait so long, especially in a situation like this where I was stranded, out of state, with a car, that I was suppose to be able to rely on, and am now having to wait OVER an hour to just speak with someone, in Oklahoma nonetheless, to contact a local roadside assistance company to come out and assist me. What if I had not been in a safe location?!?! What if?!?!

Thankfully I was, and the local roadside assistance company had some sense of urgency and a willingness to help people, and were on sight within 30 minutes. They jumpstarted the vehicle and advised me to let it run for at least an hour to charge the battery. I did precisely as they instructed and then took the vehicle for a short drive and upon returning, turned the engine off and then tried to start it again and the car would not start again! I called the number on my rental record, yet again, and was advised the hold time was 62 minutes... 62 MINUTES! This call was made at 10:43pm on 5/10. I was on that call for 1 hour and 41 minutes…

We wrapped up with the rep advising, due to the time being after midnight, she would put an order in for a local service company to come out first thing in the morning… She advised if that didn’t solve the problem that I would need to bring the car back for an exchange… The rep’s name was Jackie and she provided me with a case #**. The morning comes and no one comes out for service… I call again at 8:39am on 5/11 and spend 28 minutes on the phone to have someone come out a second time. I was advised, by your rep, Jackie, that I could exchange the car at the Melbourne Int’l Airport since it was only 5 miles from where I was staying, rather than taking more time away from my vacation to drive over an hour to the Orlando Airport for an exchange.

You send someone from AAA come out an jump start the car and I proceed to the Melbourne Int’l Airport. I leave the car running outside in the parking lot, because I don’t know if this car will start again and or if I’m going to have issues with the exchange. I go to the Thrifty/Dollar counter for assistance and was told because I picked the car up in Orlando, they could not do an exchange as the Orlando branch is a corporate location and the Melbourne one is not. Are you people for real?? A customer has just advised you that the car you rented them is not working properly, I’ve called for service twice and you are not going to help me!?!? This unprofessional, unhelpful employee advises me to speak with April, at the Hertz Gold counter…

At first April was not willing to help, and unfortunately I raised my voice to insist on your company doing something to help me with their bad car! She reluctantly made a couple phone calls and came up with a solution…which was for me to leave the first car I rented at the Melbourne Int’l Airport and we made a new rental agreement for, for a different car, for the one more day I had left of my vacation. I then get an E-Return Receipt showing total charges of $977.38! This is absurd and I feel I deserve compensation for this experience. I would like a credit, back to my credit card, for at least 2 of days I rented and my receipt shows a charge of $75.62 for Emergency Road Service! You charge your customers for service on YOUR cars! That is so very wrong!

That amount should be credited back to me and you should also compensate for my time and frustration for dealing with your company! I have used your products and services in the past (see Rental Record ** and **). I did call regarding the amount of my bill… I called at 11:12am on 5/14 and was on this call for 33 minutes… The rep I spoke with offered me a $75.00 voucher towards my next rental… That is unacceptable and I requested to speak with a supervisor. She advised all supervisors were unavailable and that I would receive a callback with 24 hours… It is 3:24pm on 5/17 and I have yet to receive a callback from anyone in your company.

I’m at the point where, regardless of the turn out, I will never, never, never use your rental services again, and will tell everyone I know not to rent with your company and your affiliates. I am going to share my experience on social media, on review sites, and where ever else I can let other people know not to use your products and/or services EVER as it is the worst possible company to use for something as important as reliable transportation when you are out of state, vacation, etc. Just awful.

The extension department do not email a new contract or have written acknowledgement of the approval and costs of extensions. Billing claims to not be able to review or change prior agreements, supervisors don't return call, the extension employees and supervisor take absolutely no responsibility and make no acknowledgement of the problem of the final bill being higher than promised by their department. Thrifty taking these extra hundreds on the car rental and making it so hard to talk to anyone makes it very hard and time consuming to get nowhere. We arrived at the airport at 4:00 pm as scheduled, thankfully got a coffee before taking a shuttle to the car rental area. That’s where the nightmare began. There was a huge line for the Thrifty counter – no other car rental services had lines. I truly wish we would have rented from somewhere else. We should have been able to enjoy a good half day of seeing a city we haven’t been to before and finding our way to our rental in the daylight but that certainly didn’t happen. Instead we were in line over 3 hours when we finally made our way to the counter.

We paid our remaining balance. Then the gentleman helping us had us stand around and wait another 15 minutes because the price might change to our benefit. Hardly. He made a note on the paperwork that our vehicle was to be a ‘full’ sized car and sent us up to the car park where – shocker – there were hardly any cars left and certainly no full-sized vehicles. We got one of two mid-sized cars that were left. The only other choices were some very small compacts. We felt sorry for anyone with a family and several pieces of luggage because all they had to pick from were tiny little cars. On top of that, more flights had come in and there were at least a hundred or more people in line behind us again waiting for a car. My daughter had overheard one person say they had waiting in line the day before for 5 hours to get a car and couldn’t which was why they were back again.

We were told if we had complaints we could voice them at the customer service desk in the car park. So we drove off in our mid-sized car in total darkness and forgetting anything for supper. The car we got was a horrible Hyundai Elantra (our paperwork says Sonata) and it was the loudest road noisy car I have ever been in in my whole life. I drive 3 different 20-year-old vehicles at home and none are as noisy as that thing. We drove through a rainstorm on one day and the wipers were awful. I’m sure they haven’t ever been changed. When we returned the rental and went to the customer service desk it was dark and nobody was there.

After returning home and looking further at the ticket we realized they also charged us more for our balance difference than what it was supposed to be by at least $30. Plus, there was the price difference of a mid-sized car vs the full-sized car. We later found out they had sold off most of their fleet during the pandemic. It certainly is not OUR fault they were allowing more bookings than they had vehicles for, or that they didn’t have someone who could count how many vehicles they had available vs their bookings. To say this company messed up all our plans would be an understatement. They won't respond to complaints and could care less about good customer service.

DO NOT RENT A VEHICLE FROM THRIFTY AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT!!! So this is how Thrifty treats their customers...."Customer Service" is clearly a foreign term and not a priority with this horrible company: Last week I rented a mid-size car through Thrifty at Orlando Airport for one week. Stood in line over 40 minutes to get the rental paperwork to go to the garage and get the car. I returned the vehicle in the same condition as it was when I took possession of it, upon return it was full of gas, no new damage and it was returned at the time specified in the rental agreement. I was directed by an employee which lane to pull into at the Thrifty return garage at Orlando Airport. I and several other customers in front of and behind me in the lane were all waiting our turn for the man with the computer to come down the lane and check us out.

He told us all to "just leave the keys in the ignition and you can go." We all looked at each other slightly puzzled by his declaration, as I have never just left the car and walked off. Against my better judgement I followed his instructions, as did everyone else. I have now been home 6 days and I am still being charged daily for the rental I returned on May 4th. I was also being harassed with robo calls from Thrifty, threatening me that if I did not return the vehicle they would report me to the police. Don't bother, because I reported you. I since have had to block the number due to the incessant nature of these calls, multiple times each day.

I have called the customer service line 7 times, and each time I was assured that they "just forgot to close out the rental- and it happens all the time." Each rep assured me they sent emails to the Orlando Airport location as well as "vehicle operations" to close out the rental, but I currently have 5 pending charges on my credit card from Thrifty, for each day since I returned the car. I was told each time I called that it takes 24-48 hours to close out the rental. It has now been six full days and I am still being charged. Until the harassing robo calls began, I would have never even known this had happened if I hadn't checked my credit card account online and discovered the pending charges. During the 7 phone calls, I asked on two occasions to speak with a supervisor. I was put on hold both times and a supervisor never came to the line to speak with me.

The first time I was on hold for over 30 minutes, the second 15. I even called Hertz and spoke with the manager at a location I had a flawless previous rental with. Since Hertz owns thrifty I thought they may have some idea as to what I should do, since I could find no other phone numbers for the Orlando Airport location except the toll free number. I was told that everything has to go through the toll free number. Hertz actually checked on the rental and told me it hadn't been rented out again since I returned it. That's a screaming red flag and it was at that time I finally became downright angry. Hertz manager advised he would email the pm manager at the Airport location and ask him to close the rental. Again, it didn't happen.

One rep said he would email the "vehicle operations" dept. and ask them to do it, but that didn't work either. Most of the cust. service reps were nice, but were either powerless or just too apathetic to help me. The two that I asked to get a supervisor on the phone were rude and condescending and never honored my request. I asked the Hertz manager to call the back line number at Thrifty and ask them to take care of it while I waited on the phone. He said he couldn't because "they never answer the phone because they are so busy waiting on people." Now, since I have done everything possible to rectify this issue with ZERO assistance from Thrifty, I have been forced to file a formal complaint with the Orlando Police Dept. in case this vehicle is used in a crime. It's quite apparent to me (and confirmed by police) that the employees are running scams with the vehicles that are returned but purposely not checked in.

It's been confirmed that there has been an ongoing problem with the employees using the returned vehicles to run side businesses, renting these vehicles out to people-after they are returned but not checked in. In some instances they are also using them, or loaning them to their criminal buddies, for their narcotics dealing business, the B&E's they commit or the drive-bys they are involved in. If you look on Google reviews for Thrifty, you will see many complaints by renters who have been charged for gas after they return the vehicles full. This is most likely because these scammers are using the gas that is in the tank upon its return by the valid renter, and then returning it empty after they are finished using it. They are most likely also driving through toll locations and the last listed renter is being charged for the tolls long after they turn the vehicle in.

Whomever at Thrifty corporate came up with the weak chain of custody system currently being used, should probably look for another line of work, because it's an epoch fail! It's obvious that corporate has no idea what's transpiring with their own vehicles, or they are making so much money off unsuspecting tourists they just don't care. I was told that sometimes the company doesn't know for weeks that a vehicle is even missing because there is no formal protocols when vehicles are returned. I have rented many vehicles from Enterprise and have never had even one slight problem with them. I made the mistake of using Thrifty this time because my credit card company was running a special offer. WHAT A MISTAKE!

A formal report has now been filed with Orlando PD about this horrible experience and the still missing car. I fully expect that they will try to charge me for a tank of gas and tolls that I did not wrack up because I used my own EZ Pass and returned it full. In preparation for that nonsense, I included all my receipts and photos of the vehicle with my formal OPD complaint. Good luck to any of you who, after reading this review, still rent from this horrible company.

Booked car rental for my mom using Expedia for Thrifty Car Rental at JAX Airport using her credit card. Got to the airport and Thrifty told me that per company policy, since I booked the reservation they needed my credit card to complete the transaction. I didn't have my card, only my mother's which we used to book the reservation with. Thrifty told me I would have to contact Expedia to change the reservation as they could not do it on their end. Expedia had a 2 hour wait and mom was exhausted. No other rentals were available. Had to rent the car from Thrifty at a $400 upcharge from what we booked with Expedia. We were basically at their mercy with no other options. The rental car was garbage and ran like crap. Do yourself a favor and do not rent from these guys.

And it looks like I am not the only one. Reserved a full size car on Hotwire. Reserved rate of 32.94/day for 2 days. After waiting in a backed up line the guy at the counter asks if I want a full size car. I said "is that what my res is for", he said yes and I said them that is what I want. He told me to go to a specific row and take any car in that row which is exactly what I did. Even approached an associate in the garage to make sure I was in the right spot.

Get my bill and was charged about double my reserved rate. Call the ONLY number you can find and was told that I took a bigger car than what I reserved and that is why my rate was higher and that it was what it was. Nothing they could or would do. **! I took the vehicle from the row he told me to. Asked to be transferred to a supervisor and was sent right back to main. Hold forever line to get the same ** from a second person. Asked for a number to that airport location and could not get one and have requested a call back from a supervisor as "None are available at this time." I will continue my quest but BUYER BEWARE. Do no rent from this location. Just read the reviews.... I wish I had.

We were flying from Columbus OH to Sky Harbor International Airport on April 22. Our flight was delayed and we arrived at Sky Harbor around 11 pm. There was a HUGE line at the Thrifty rental facility. We stood in line for over 2 hours. Some of the people in line had waited 3 hours. At around 1:30 AM a Thrifty employee came out and informed the 50 to 75 plus people still in line they were OUT OF VEHICLES!!!!

I have traveled all over the world, used Hotwire and Thrifty MANY times and Never had a problem!!! I have been a member of Thrifty and still have a corporate card with Hertz! We were stranded. We went to Budget and rented their last vehicle which cost us Double the Price!!!! This morning I contacted Hotwire and they are sending payment for the vehicle we reserved from Thrifty, which is owned by Hertz almost month in advance, prepaying!!!! This company left many people stranded and needs to make some type of compensation!!!! I I sent a letter to Hertz a week ago and have received no response. I see this all over this website. I waited in line for over 3hrs only to get to the counter to hear from the agent I would have to wait another 45 minutes before the car would be available. I finally walked out and called to get a refund, which took two days before I could actually speak to a human person. I was then told they would have to investigate if my flight was on time before I could receive my money. I asked the representative what difference did it make if my flight was on time (which it was) because I had stood in line for over three hrs.

Everyone that I came in contact with from this company was rude, uncaring and had no regards for its customers. This made for a horrible start of vacation, which is supposed to be pleasurable. This is the reason we take vacations. What was supposed to be a great experience away from the everyday life events, was made miserable, courtesy of Thrifty/Dollar Car Rental. As of today, I am still waiting on my refund, which has already been “5 business days” I will NEVER recommend this company or its affiliates to anyone. It would be a waste of time and money. It’s absolutely not worth the hassle or headache to save a couple dollars, which you will probably lose in the end. It’s better to pay the extra money in the long run to someone else and receive what you asked for without having your blood pressure increased unnecessarily and be out of your hard earned money.

I rented a car through a 3rd party, along with my flight I picked the car up in Atlanta at the airport. My reservation time was 3pm. When I got there the line was super long, when I got to the service counter I was called to the Dollar car desk, when I walked over the guy says "who you rent from Dollar or Thrifty, he then went through the reservation process. Never explained what he was doing nothing. He then told me he needed to see the card I used for the reservation so I gave it to him, he charged my card again so now there's 2 holds on my credit card, I didn't know this is what he needed my card for. He then told me when my car is ready they will call my name. I walked over to the side where there was around 25 to 30 people standing waiting. Time passed on and on. I stood in the airport waiting on a car over 4 hours.

The customer service at the counters were so nasty and rude with not just me but with everyone, the airport maintenance told me as I was standing there, he said they don't have any cars in the garage. They always do this, yet they were checking more and more people in. This was the worst experience I have ever had, when I finally got a car it was no gas in it.. Every time I asked the workers a question they told me call the 800 number. So I did. They put me on hold and hung up on me. Now when I took car back I watched my credit card to make sure one of the 2 charges fell off. Well it did, but they charged me an extra 100 plus and once again I called the 800 number and she told me it was for the extras. "What extras?"

She told me 17 dollars for gas but that's about all she could come up with. Please don't rent from them. This was an awful experience. They are so unprofessional, and rude. I had to wait over 4 hours and I didn't even get an apology. Instead they overcharged my card. Now I have to dispute that charge for the unidentifiable extras..

We spend over $400 for something not even close. I'm 5'2 it was extremely hard for me to get in and out of this vehicle due to no running boards which is part of the reason we got a car. When I said something at check in they offered the one vehicle they had left...a Charger (still not a convertible). If I would have tried to change companies at this point it would have cost me almost double of the original cost. This is false advertisement as you don't get a convertible as you expect. Thieves who have horrible business practices. I made a reservation online for a vehicle in Dallas. At the counter every employee had a bad attitude and were disrespecting customers. I went through all the paperwork and was sent to retrieve the vehicle from the parking garage, where there was no attendant or anyone to help. I found someone who was parking a vehicle and he told me where to grab a car from. There was only one vehicle available, which was dented and had scratches on the paint, I took pictures and video for proof. The interior was mostly clean but had a slight odor. After 5 days of traveling from the hotel to a corporate office we returned the vehicle. It's now been 2 weeks and I see a charge on my account for an extra 400 dollars.

I called their customer service department and Doug hung up on me after I asked to dispute the charge. I called again and was told the charge is for an odor in the vehicle, and they had to clean the vehicle, but they couldn't tell me what kind of odor (we do not smoke). Doug mentioned they have proof of odor, but couldn't share the proof with me. No one reached out to me about any odor or damages to the vehicle. in fact, they sent an email to an address that someone made up instead of using the one I added to account as a renter. On the phone later, Ed kindly reminded me that there's a legal agreement we sign and if the location sees fit that the vehicle needs to be cleaned, that a charge will be made and the vehicle will be cleaned regardless of the condition the renter returned the vehicle in. This company is a joke, and is stealing from people. They should not be allowed to rent vehicles to people.

When I got to the counter, through my mask and the clerk's mask, I told him that I had car insurance and didn't need their insurance, as I've told many companies in the past. "oh, no" said the clerk, I still needed their insurance, at $33.99/day, for a total of over $290, as "my insurance didn't cover everything". He wouldn't let me conclude the transaction without purchasing their insurance. Too tired to fight, I just wanted to get out of there to finish the 2 hour drive to my mother's. Furious about this, I called Thrifty and they told me that I had to go back to Thrifty to re-write the contract. Sure, on my 3 day stay at the beach, I was going to get in the car and drive 5 hours round trip to do this. Ruined the vacation. Thanks, Thrifty.
