Do not rent from them. They did not explain the insurance and how much it added to the bill. When you come in tired from a 7 hour plane trip--it should be spelled out simply the cost of the car, the cost of the insurance, how much you already prepaid for the car if you did so. Terrible. Will never use them again.

Will NEVER rent a car from them again!!!! No one, and I mean no one, reads rental car agreements at counter at airport with 25 people behind you! Somewhere in the fine print says..."Bring your car 1 hr late...no damage, etc...get charged $100"!!! 30 percent of the 4 days rental charges!!! They are owned by Hertz and Dollar too...These 3...Hope they split that hundred...Will go out of my way to NOT rent from them! And if love new ai....no agent answers phone...Told to wait 7 days with an online form...no contact whatsoever...

Corporate America joints like hertz, dollar, and Thrifty suck!!!! Do NOT support these crooks...they all took taxpayer billions during covid...sold the cars for operating capital and then 3 and 5 times charged customers more money in popular markets...you support companies like this? Not me!!! Thrifty....enjoy my nasty reviews for the rest of your existence! Making it my daily priority to expose your lousy customer service...See ya!!!

Be careful, read your contract thoroughly, and plan to wait a long time!!! Thrifty has failed to adequately staff their Phoenix location and the agent failed to follow our verbal declination of additional services, resulting in a very expensive unneeded service being added to our contract that we did not catch until it was too late. The amount of time it took to check in and pick up a vehicle (2 hours), coupled with an inability to reach a representative by phone is incredibly frustrating. I will never patron Thrifty or a parent company in the future.

I hope that losing customers is worth the $467 (!!) in unwanted additional items (roadside assistance and extra insurance, which we stated we did not need). Thrifty still hasn’t answered my question regarding the internal process for additional services (whether they are added by the agent proactively or defaults that must be removed). We feel their tactics are predatory for consumers. From other reviews, it appears our experience is not unique.

By far one of the worst rental companies with which to do business. I was quoted a rate of $130 for a small compact car and ended up paying over $500 due to a $400 “cleaning fee.” And when confronted They were unable to explain why it costs $400 to clean a small car that drove around the city for several days with no trash left inside, basically saying, "Too bad, we can charge whatever we want because it's in the rules." And that was only the tip of the iceberg. Terrible company.

I rented a car from them and charge was automatically deducted off of my credit card. Upon arriving at the destination I realized I left my credit card at home. They requested another form of payment so they could place a hold, which was to be released upon drop off. Car was returned, portion of the money was returned within 3 business after drop off but they still ended up over charging me. Also, vehicle which was rented showed maintenance required, my friend who was also traveling with us, her car also showed some kind of an alert. Not satisfied at all. It is almost impossible to contact them and they don’t return phone calls, bad customer service!

I would give ZERO stars if I could. I sent my clients to Hawaii and this company completely ripped them off!!! It was $371 to rent the car for 6 days. Great. Then there was the deposit fee, which was a surprise but partially my fault. I confirmed with Thrifty that the car rental was $371, and the refundable $200 deposit and that was it (I spoke with a representative of their company). When my client arrived to pick up their car they were hit with an additional $600+ in hidden fees!!! This company's practices are shady and they should be shut down.

The beginning of my nightmare with Thrifty's began when I entered the queue line at the Albuquerque airport with my son and our 4 suitcases and 2 backpacks. The representative at the counter had his feet up on the counter and appeared to be eating or chewing something. Because his mouth was full, he motioned for me to approach the counter with his hand and never verbally addressed me or welcomed me.

Not wanting to bother him, I explained to him that I had received a text in the air saying that my car was ready but that it resulted in an error code due to my still being in the air, I was guessing, and I wasn't sure how to proceed now. I told him I that I was a "skip the counter" customer, something I had done in the past with other rental car companies and truly enjoyed due to its ease and ability for me to start my vacations as quickly as possible. The man told me that I'd need to wait and first, he would need my Driver's License, which I provided. I handed him my military ID and Driver's License.

He finally stood up from his chair and examined my identification. He then told me he would need my credit card. I provided him with a credit card and he said it needed to be the one I purchased the car with. I told him I didn't have it on me and that I never got any emails or texts or saw anything on the computer saying I would need my original credit card and that I am aware of companies that do state that, in which case I bring the original card and had I know I would have done so. The man sighed and huffed and told me he wouldn't be able to rent me a car without it. I was shocked because there are many valid reasons someone may not have an original card on their person (fraud, expired, closed account, lost, stolen, etc.) and never have I ever heard of it preventing a company from completing a paid transaction.

I told the man that I find this hard to believe and he told me there was nothing he could do without my original credit card and that I would need to call the Thrifty's hotline for help. I explained to him that I already paid and I am a "skip the counter" customer and I'm just here to pick up my keys and leave. I offered him my phone to show one of the many texts I had received before ever even renting my car began and he refused saying it would be of no help to him. He told me he couldn't rent me a car without the original credit card and I needed to call the number. I asked him if he could call the number because I had been traveling all day and my phone was about to die. He said no, he could not call for me and that I would need to handle it on my own phone.

I asked him for his manager and he said the manager would not help me either and she would tell me the exact same thing. I told him that's fine and to please get her and let her tell me that for herself. He said no and sat back down, kicked his feet up on the desk and went back to sitting and doing nothing. To the man's right was Dollar and the representative there was also sitting in a chair, doing nothing but reading a book, and didn't seem appalled at the level of customer service I had been receiving from this man at all. To his left was Sixt and they had been busy helping customers since my arrival.

I looked over at the agents at Sixt who did seem aware of the horrible service I was receiving and told them that I had rented a car from them last month and it was a fantastic experience, not at all like the experience I was currently receiving from Thrifty's. They both said smiled and shouted "Thank you!" This interaction seemed to bother the man at the Thrifty's counter but he continued to sit in his chair and do nothing, with his feet propped up on the counter as he stretched back with his arms and hands behind his head.

I proceeded to make the phone call only because I was at his mercy. The hotline said there would be a 10 minute wait and I looked at the man and repeated that, waiting for him to realize it wouldn't be worth either of our times since I was a "skip the counter" customer. He simply shrugged and went back to not caring at all. As the phone rolled through its many prompts, I asked the man what to press so that I could get to an agent quickest. He shrugged and said he didn't know and it didn't matter and to just press anything because I needed to talk to an agent. I explained to him that I didn't know what to press because I wasn't canceling a reservation, I wasn't making a reservation, my phone was about to die, etc. and I didn't even know which sequence to enter. He said he didn't know and he wasn't familiar with the phone system.

Beyond frustrated with his total lack of customer service, I asked him if we could simply cancel the order and start a new reservation - he said no. I asked him if I could cancel the reservation so that I could leave his worthless counter and he said "I don't care what you do!" Such a rude response from a totally inept employee, I was still on hold well past 10 minutes and, at that point, I looked over the man who had no name tag on and said the final fatal words "What's your name?" He cheerily replied "My name's James! What's yours?!" I found this to be completely odd and bizarre considering that I had supplied this man with my military ID, my Driver's License, and he supposedly had my reservation pulled up on the screen well enough to verify the credit card I had supplied him was not the same.

James sat there, staring at me from his chair, with his legs still kicked up on the counter, and he decided to start publicly shaming me for not having my original credit card of purchase. As I waited on the phone, I had asked him if I could change my own credit card online and he said he didn't know because he doesn't know anything about the online system. I pulled out my laptop and began trying to connect to wi-fi and login their website so that I could try while simultaneously on the phone, in line, with my child, while monitoring 6 pieces of luggage while James sat in his chair saying things like "OMG, who doesn't travel with credit cards?" and "Who makes a car reservation and doesn't bring the original credit card with them? - wooowww!" and "Wow, look at you, traveling without your credit cards - that's soo, that's so crazy!"

I interrupted him and said "Is this what you're doing now? Is this how you're treating your customers now?" He snapped "YUP! I sure am!" I told him that he was very unprofessional and continued with my online business and phone call while James did nothing but harass me and be absolutely mean and worthless. James then told me that I'm rude. I said "How am I rude?" James told me that I am rude for standing in his line while on my very loud phone making annoying phone calls. I was further appalled at this statement because I was simply doing as he had instructed me to do.

During my entire time at the Thrifty's line, there were no customers before me or while I had been there so this was hardly rude for James or anyone else for that matter. I told James that he is very unprofessional and he asked me how he is unprofessional. I told him he is sitting in a chair, doing nothing to help a customer while I am making phone calls and trying to make online changes while he badgers me and verbally abuses me in front of my child and this whole airport trying to embarrass and humiliate me. James then sprung up out of his chair, maniacally laughed, and said "I know what I'm going to do! I'm refusing to rent you a car AND I'm going to get Security and have you physically removed from the airport!" and ran out of the building.

At some point during this exchange, the customer service hotline representative came on and had heard the remainder of this conversation after around almost 25 minutes of my being on hold. I explained to him what was going on and he quickly looked up my reservation and told me I had already paid and he didn't understand what the problem was. I told him that I also didn't understand where the problem was because I was a "skip the counter" customer and yet I was indeed having the longest counter experience at a car rental agency that I've ever had in my entire life! He asked me why the man can't simply hand me my keys because it really is that simple. I said I didn't know and offered to let him try to speak to James when he returned, if ever.

While on the phone with the agent, a man with long hair wearing nail polish walked into the airport and began stalking around, I imagine looking for the crazed person James no doubt had described that needed to be removed from the airport. Not finding anyone, they left, I imagine seeking out James for more direction ultimately leading him to me. He returned and approached the counter and told me he would not be renting me a car today. I asked the man if he was the manager and he rolled his eyes and said "Yes." I asked what his name was and he said "Chloe," in a deep voice and continued to roll his eyes and flip his hair.

I tried to explain to him that I was a "skip the counter" customer and that I had already asked for the manager but was told that they wouldn't help me. I asked "Chloe" if he would be interested in talking to the agent who has all my information available and "Chloe" began repeating himself saying that he would not be renting me a car and that he would be supporting his employee. I extended my arm to "Chloe" so that he could speak to the agent and he reluctantly took my phone acting as if if were contaminated or disgusting. The agent explained that they heard everything and would be filing a complaint on my behalf but "Chloe" didn't care and rolled his eyes repeatedly, repeating that he wouldn't be renting me a car. The agent asked why, for what reason and "Chloe" simply repeated that he would not be renting me a car and handed me back my phone as if it were covered in feces and told me to leave.

I exited the line and spoke to the agent who was just as baffled as I was by the experience and he said he would try to find me a car elsewhere. He tried and the nearest available was in Phoenix and I explained to him that that wouldn't be helpful for me at that time because I was currently stranded at the Albuquerque airport. He told me he took a report number and I told him I didn't have time to complete a complaint myself at that particular moment but would later, after my trip when I got home and had full access to wi-fi and electricity. He understood, agreed, apologized, and canceled my reservation giving me a full refund.

I then spent the next 2 hours trying to rent another vehicle, costing me over $1000 more than the purchase price I had agreed to with Thrifty's due to it being the beginning of Spring Break with no one having any availability. I found this to be the utmost cruelest thing James did to me and my child at the start of our own trip to New Mexico and nearly stranding me at an unknown airport for hours while he sat in a chair doing nothing, harassing me, and then trying to get me physically removed from the airport further humiliating me and my child who also witnessed the entire event.

In one attempt to find another car rental, the manager at Avid told me Hertz had many cars. He could not understand why the manager at Thrifty's wasn't able to resolve this issue considering I had a reservation number and should have a car in my possession already instead of trying to hunt one down at the last minute under some extreme circumstances. As I attempted to rent an SUV from the woman with long crimped light brown hair at Hertz, a mysterious shorter, darker complexed woman with platinum blonde hair in a ponytail appeared out of nowhere and told her to tell me that they had no cars available for me. She never looked at me once but did ask if I was "the woman who was at Thrifty's earlier" and I said yes and she told the woman to tell me that all their cars were needed for other customers and to tell me no, that they wouldn't be renting to me today.

The woman looked back at me and said "I have no idea what's going on" and mouthed 'I'm sorry.' I patted the counter, smiled, thanked her for her time, and told her it was OK and left. You're not going to get any honesty from any employees at Thrifty's, Dollar, or Hertz because, as you know, they're all the same company and the horrible employees (mostly) at the Albuquerque location are all going to stick together to protect each other and enable each other's deplorable actions as they all fight to keep jobs they probably shouldn't have.

I ended up renting 2 vehicles due to the demands of Spring Break from Sixt and Avis, both requiring minimal documentation and neither demanded original credit cards. Avis even told me it's not required, which brings me back to the beginning wondering what had caused the severe discrimination that I had experienced at your ABQ location - was it the fact that I had supplied a military ID? I guess we'll never know. You should be made aware of their customer service representatives and managers are treating members of the military and their family members at the ABQ location.

As I was busy getting service from the other car rental companies my son told me he had witnessed James arguing with another man after me who was wearing a hat and also found himself angry and standing in another line waiting for help from another company. As we left, James was arguing with another angry woman who was very angry and yelling at him, I imagine due to his total lack of customer service and unprofessionalism. When I returned my vehicle nearly a week later, James was sitting in his chair with 0 customers chatting with another employee and oblivious to my presence.

Thrifty Car Rental doesn’t deserve any stars. They are a joke. I booked a car two months in advance and they didn’t have a car available when I got there. There were people that had been waiting for 2 hours for a vehicle when we got there. We ended up having to pay almost $400 to rent from someplace else on short notice.

Horrific experience! The car I was given was an electric vehicle- I was never told this beforehand and did not feel comfortable in this car, as I had never driven one before. The employee told me it was exactly the same as a gas vehicle- it was TOTALLY different! The car drove smoothly, but the controls were completely different. There was no car manual provided in the vehicle, which is ridiculous and unprofessional. Charging the car was a NIGHTMARE! Your employee told me there were many charging stations, but they were hard to find in the area. I finally found one after loading two apps... and I charged it for 40 minutes- it was in a deserted place which made me somewhat uncomfortable. Even after 40 minutes, the car was BARELY charged more. The app said it would take 6 hours to charge- absolutely ridiculous and a complete waste of my time to sit there charging for so long and have it barely charge.

When I returned the car, the man was rude and rushed me out, driving away with my luggage still in the back seat! I was thoroughly disappointed in your company- worst rental experience ever! I will recommend against Thrifty to all my family/friends, many who travel often! How to improve:

-Don't try to pawn off electric cars on people who have never used them before!

-Be upfront about electric cars from the beginning. Have gas cars available always.

-Charging is a NIGHTMARE! I refuse to sit there in a dark street and charge for 6 hours. You guys have to figure out a better way- It is not respectful of the customer's time and I did not have peace of mind about how much energy this vehicle had left. I wasn't even clear on how to read the dashboard, which was very confusing.

-Have a car user manual in the dashboard... OBVIOUSLY!

All in all, your car rental was a horrible experience that put a dent in my vacation. Thank you for reading this review. The electric car was a nightmare, especially charging it. I felt tricked into renting it and I did not feel respected or supported by your company at all. I will never do business with you again and I will recommend that other people don't either.

Rented from Thrifty - Las Vegas Airport in Dec 2023. Lighting in the parking garage is not great so it was hard to see just how dirty the inside of our rental was. The next day we noticed how dirty the inside of the vehicle was. The back seat was so dirty I would not put anything on it. We had to fold the seat back down to get a clean spot. We had to buy products to clean the windows. They were so dirty we could not see clearly out front windshield. It looked like the vehicle had not been cleaned in several months. While driving we also noticed a noise that could have been a wheel bearing. It didn’t matter how fast or slow we drove. There was a constant whine.

When we dropped the vehicle off we informed the attendant about the cleanliness and mechanical issue. The attendant did say they were not cleaning the vehicles because they were busy. That would have been nice to know before renting from Thrifty. I did receive an email from a Thrifty Operations Manager after I left a review. I replied to their email and have never heard back from them. Even after sending several more emails. My experience with Thrifty will definitely be the last. Once Thrifty has your money they don’t care about their customers.

Do not trust Thrifty Car Rental. I arranged for my car rental through Expedia, and although I did not pre-pay for fuel initially, I was told when I got to the counter that I should get the fuel option because they are only charging $3.21/gal and that I would ONLY be charged for what I use. I declined at first, but when I got my car and drove up to the rental exit area for Thrifty, another representative told me that I should really get the gas option since I would ONLY be charged for what I use, again. For example, if I bring the car back only half full, I would only be charged for half a tank, not a full tank. So, I signed up.

I should have trusted my initial judgment not to take the fuel option because I got charged for the full tank at a $3.71/gal for a charge of $53.04. I know in the overall cost of $235, the difference that I should have been charged, $22.95 (half tank), is not that much. But the fact that the representatives of Thrifty car rental pushed for the fuel option by lying to me is unethical and reprehensible. Additionally, when I called the customer service, they said their policy has always been to charge full tank not partial. I will never trust them again!!!!

I am so disappointed in their conduct and customer service. We arrived at the Seattle airport location juggling a cranky toddler who was tired of being on the plane. The agent asked if we wanted to buy an upgrade on the car size, and we agreed. We even paid for the gas upfront, just to save ourselves a trip later. He then asked if we wanted additional insurance, and I said no, that we had coverage through our credit card company. I was very clear that it was a no. I even explained why it was a no. He verbally acknowledged that it was a no. The agent then printed numerous things, handed papers around to my husband and I while we tried to console our toddler, and asked for signatures. I saw that our total was more than I expected, but figured it was our upgraded car size and the gas, so I signed and got us out of there before a total toddler meltdown.

Later, I discovered he had charged us $123 for extra insurance, which at point of sale was titled "LIS," which is not very clear anyway. I contacted Thrifty and said there was obviously a misunderstanding, and their customer service person basically said "you signed, haha, it's ours now." Yes, I did sign. Lesson learned: these guys will sneak extra charges onto the bill. Stand there and make them explain every single line before you sign, even if you think you have been clear and heard verbal acknowledgement back. If you said "no" to something, make them show you where they acknowledged that in writing. I am shocked that this guy saw a family with a small, exhausted child and thought he could take advantage. I mean, I guess he was right; he could and did, but I am never renting from them again. I got the feeling from dealing with customer service that they absolutely know their agents do this and they are completely okay with it.

Hi there, I would just like to call your attention to a recent transaction with Thifty Rental Car in Orlando International airport. I had rented 2 vehicles to be picked up March 4th 2024. I picked my vehicles and paid about $313 each online. My final bills were over $800 each. The day I was flying into Orlando I got an email from Thrifty to save time at the counter by checking in online, which I did. I declined the upgrade, I declined the insurance, I declined everything. I put in a scan of my driver's license and it said congratulations just go to the counter when you arrive to get your assignment.

When I got the counter they asked for my driver's license again and went through the whole question process again. I declined the extra insurance again, verbally with her. While doing our transaction a couple had come in from the exit door and engaged the counter help next to us saying we did not want the insurance and demanded she remove it (this was something that didn’t register with me until later). Then she said “you know you will only be able to fit 2 large suitcases in your vehicle because that’s the size of your vehicle and that you might want to upgrade, I thought about it because, I would not have signed up for a compact car. I told her no and when I got out there I had a good size SUV that fit 6 suitcases.” So that was a lie.

Anyway after I decline upgrades and insurance and frequent flyer thing- she hits me up for gas refill saying we only charge $1.88 a gallon to refill your tank for you so you don’t have to fill it up before you bring it back to which I say “what’s the catch” and she says no catch – so I take that. (what I paid for was 15 gallons of gas, even if I use 1 gallon – I was to be charged the full tank – that’s the catch.) So, she says sign the screen and I’m off. Driving to my hotel at 4:30 in the morning I look down and the receipt says Dmg. Waiver – Accepted for $300. I was fit to be tied.

The next day I call Thrifty and they say the only way to fix it is to go back to the airport and get it fixed there. Another guy on the call said you could also actually wait till the trip was over and the charges post to dispute it on website. I’m on vacation but I go back the airport a day later and wait in line and get up there and they say nothing we can do – It’s already on the bill. After I rant and rave, he says well, the only other thing I can do is we can close it out and you pay for the days you used the vehicles and then you can re-rent the cars, but you will have to pay the extra fees for the days before the return or I can email this to corporate and they will look at it. I was obviously upset and I only had 1 of the 2 cars there and I said fine just send it to corporate thinking – they will help me. They did not – no response.

I went online at Thrifty and submitted 2 cases and the response was we are so sorry, but here is a copy of the contract with an image of the signature I had scribbled on the kiosk at the counter. Looking online you will find many people complaining about Thrifty’s scheming ways. BBB website the very first complaint was the exact thing I just typed. They are trained from the counter to customer service to steal and then put up walls to protect the company’s false profits.

I ALSO agree, and will go to the ends of the Earth to make sure EVERYONE knows what a SCAM Thrifty is!!! Upon arriving for my rental ("Manager's Special"), the attendant took my credit card and ID for a rental that I reserved, checked in via text the day prior, ALL at $169... He ('Jay' at Portland Airport) handed me back my card and a receipt for $536. I ADDED NOTHING... He said the online reservation (THROUGH Thrifty Car Rental 's website, NO THIRD PARTY) was "just an estimate".... So, my car went from $169 to $536???? Yup! BUYER BEWARE!!!! When I questioned Jay, he became so upset, he ripped my receipt out of my hand, told me he is refusing to rent to me, and now three days later, they still have a hold on my card. Refused to let me speak to a manager, refused to tell me a manager's name, took my name and number and said they would call me.... NOTHING. This company is nothing but CROOKS!

No matter how many times we said NO, they responded it was Florida law to have 2 million in coverage and our insurance carrier was insufficient. Agent said we had no choice. This is not true. Horrible on-hold music played over and over as they were apparently on a helpline. Even when they started taking customers each one took about 15 minutes because of uncertainties about payment and insurance. Me too even though I'd carefully worked out the details. Tried to sell me additional insurance I didn't need, requiring rethinking it. I had chosen "wildcard" because any size car would do. I wasn't told this could be an electric car. I had never driven one, didn't want to start now, would have cost me to change it. Couldn't figure out how to make car work. Instructions were inadequate.

Had to go back in and get someone to help, more waiting. Took about 2 hours by the time I drove out. On the way out stopped by an employee who demanded I show paperwork I'd thrown in back. Had to get out. Had to get App to recharge. Closest station was full. Went to next one on app. In bad section, in parking garage. Had to pay for parking to charge. Had driven 37 miles, took over an hour to charge. Never again!

I reserved a rental car - a standard SUV - from Thrifty at the Seattle airport. When I arrived at the desk, there were already 25-30 people waiting. (None of the other rental desks had more than 2 groups waiting.) When I got up to the clerk, he took my reservation info, then went to his computer. Only after 10 minutes or more, he said that they didn't have any rental vehicles available, but were waiting on returns. All the other people there (about 25-30 in front of me and now another 15 or so behind me) were waiting - or soon going to be waiting - also. My wife checked some of the other rental desks. None had vehicles available.

At Thrifty, the clerk said he could rent me the only vehicle they had left - a Chevy Suburban - for $105 a day. I passed. About 15 minutes later nobody had yet gotten a vehicle and he said he could rent me the Suburban for 69.95 a day with insurance. I took it to mean the price included insurance. It was already evening and it looked like a long, long wait, so I said OK. Only when I returned this beast did I discover that the total price was over $155/day! Thrifty is guilty of bait-and-switch. They reserve vehicles they don't have. (The others didn't - which is why this crowd of people waiting was unique to Thrifty.) They are NOT transparent with their prices. I will *NEVER* do any sort of business with Thrifty again.

My husband and I needed to travel from Atlanta to New York quickly to attend funeral services for a close family member. I used Travelocity to bundle my flights and car rental, hoping to save a little bit of money as this was an unexpected and expensive trip. I selected the "Manager's Special" from the Thrifty site and opted to pick up my car at the Laguardia Airport in NY. I expected, at a minimum, a compact car which would have been fine given that I only had 2 passengers and limited luggage. I knew that I would need to take a courtesy shuttle from LGA to the pick up location.

When I arrived at the pick up counter, I was told that the "Manager's Special" that day was an Electric Vehicle (EV). The vehicle was charged for up to 200 miles. Staying at a hotel 30 minutes from this location, dealing with NY traffic, and having to attend funeral arrangements, as well as no knowledge if there would be a charging station at my destination did not allow for me to choose this option. Classic "bait and switch" so I was forced to pay an upcharge of an additional $30 per day for a gas powered car.

To make matters worse, when it was time to return the car the next day, there was no location for drop off on our documents other than LGA airport. Knowing that I had taken a shuttle to the Thrify office, I spent 20 minutes calling customer service to get an exact address for return. I was told to return the car to the airport. When I asked for clarification, the customer service representative told me again to return it to the airport in a ridiculously condescending tone of voice. When we drove to the airport, the only rental car returns that we could locate were Avis and Hertz. We circled the airport several times with no luck in finding the Thrifty return area.

Finally, we asked someone and thankfully, he was headed in that direction and he told us we could follow him. Sure enough, the return location was off airport at the same pick up location that we had used. There was no address on any of the documentation to indicate this drop off location. All of this confusion and lost time meant that we were running through the airport in order to get to our flight on time. Needless to say, I will NEVER rent with Thrifty again!

Two words describe my experience with this company: trickery and extortionary. I booked a SUV on Expedia. When I was picking up my car from their Denver Airport site, the staff asked me whether I wanted a 4-wheel-drive and pointed out that what I paid for was not a 4-wheel-drive. I said yes. The staff then added $400 to my rental. This added to my cost, which was more than double my original rental that I paid on Expedia. Realizing that, I declined the offer and told her that I would keep my non-4-wheel-drive rental. She tried to scare me by telling me that it would snow and that the road would be dangerous. I did feel uneasy, but I felt that the price was very excessive and extortionary, so I maintained my refusal. Eventually, I still got a 4-wheel-drive car and was told that they only had that one available.

Conclusion: Be guarded about their extortionary practices when dealing with this company, avoid this company if you can. By the way, during my conversation with the staff, her expression was austere and without any warmth or smile. I will also put some blame on Expedia to work with this company and will not rent car from the website in the future.

DO NOT RENT FROM THRIFTY (DOLLAR). I am an experienced renter and was *literally* robbed by them. I rented an SUV from them on December 29th for about a week. I explicitly declined collision damage waiver since it is provided by my AMEX platinum, and explicitly declined their supplementary liability insurance as it is provided by my home auto insurance. When the check-in agent offered me both of these I verbally and *explicitly* declined each of them and very clearly explained my reasons why. I had both my home auto insurance policy AND a copy of my amex auto insurance policy with me.

When my final receipt came at the end of the rental period, I saw that I was charged $175 for the liability insurance supplement which I supposedly "accepted". I called Thrifty immediately to have this refunded and they ultimately told me they could not as I supposedly signed and accepted this liability insurance supplement. The only explanation I have for this is that when the agent at the desk told me to "sign this" for my car rental, I was actually signing to accept the liability insurance supplement that I had already verbally declined to him, and he KNEW I didn't want it.

Now you could make the case that I should have more closely read the contract, but considering that I already explicitly told him I did not want the insurance supplement, I would not have expected him to literally scam me and add it to the contract anyway. I consider this literal theft and under no circumstances would I rent from Dollar or Thrifty again. If anyone reading this is considering doing so - either a) read your contract extremely thoroughly or b) just avoid them altogether and go with a better company.

Do Not rent from Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz if you have any other choice. I rented from Thrifty and they ruined my vacation by forcing me to take an EV. I was prompted several times to check in and pay for my reservation. Don't ever do that. When I got to the rental counter I was told I had to take an EV. I told them I had no experience with EVs and that I needed something else. They gave me another option to rent that was 1200 triple the price I had already paid. I couldn't cancel and rent with someone else because I had already checked in and paid ahead of time. I couldn't pay the 1200 so I had to take the EV.

The car when fully charged after a 5 hour charging session only went 136 miles. I was staying in St Agustine about 60 miles outside of Jacksonville, but we were going back and forth during our stay. So not only did I have to be sure the car was charged before leaving I also had to find a place to charge it in Jacksonville every day to make it. The Hertz app that was supposed to give me locations where I could charge the car never loaded. I was able to Google a different app that let me know where charging stations were. Luck of the draw there was one close to where we were staying in St Augustine. I would hook up the car and walk the mile and a half back to the hotel to wait the 5 hours to charge it. Jacksonville was a bit trickier. I encountered several broken stations. Many of them were located in parking garages that were closed after 5 and on the weekend.

Many times in addition to the cost to charge it I had to pay to uber back and forth to the car and also pay the garage fee. The money is not as upsetting as the time that I had to spend away from the family that I came down here to see. I finally had enough and turned in the car 2 days earlier than reserved and rented from another company. I had to pay for the full rental period. There were also 2 charges that I didn't notice at the counter because I assumed my rental agreement was the same one that I had prepaid earlier. The counter agent had added insurance and roadside assistance after I had told him that I didn't want either one and had waived all coverage when I had prepaid earlier. That cost me another 200 dollars. Then they charged me another 25 fee to charge the car because it wasn't fully charged upon return. On my initial reservation I had prepaid gas. I guess that doesn't translate to electric charging.

These businesses policies of Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty are immoral at the least. Don't ever rent from these three companies. I booked with them and have the receipt stating that I was charged about 300 I ended up spend 900 in total. I will never rent from Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty again. Don't let them take you away from your family and ruin your vacation plans. Read the reviews and educate yourself before renting.

Save yourself frustration and rent from a different company. Wish we did. We wanted to add a day to our rental with Thrifty. Called customer 4 times and the agents told us the wrong info - so we added a separate 1 day rental. The new reservation could not be combined with existing one. Had to go back next day and turn in the car and get a new one (the original reservation). The counter agents didn’t help or try to troubleshoot or even note we wanted to keep the car/combine reservation. The customer service agent wouldn’t help and hung up on us. Don’t go with Thrifty.

Upon pick up we had to wait in line for an hour. When the representative at the counter asked if we wanted additional coverage I declined it all. I realized after we left when I was reviewing the receipt trying to figure out why the rental was about $30 over what I had expected and confirmed that he had added the $35 additional coverage anyway. When he asked if I wanted to pay for unlimited tolls I told him no. He informed me we would hit at least $10 worth of tolls from the airport to our destination. This was a lie, we hit 0 tolls our entire trip.

When we returned the vehicle to an Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy location an Enterprise associate helped us. We told him about the coverage being added despite our declining it; he and another associate said it happens at that Thrifty all the time. Apparently they have about half a dozen people every day complain about that when they return a Thrifty rental that they picked up at the Orlando Airport. It’s shady business practice. The price was decent, but review very carefully anything you sign because they like to add stuff without your permission.

For a total of $520, at least I learned the "special manager" trick because when I went to pick up the vehicle they told me to choose from the many vehicles that were available there and to finish they didn't seem like premium vehicles to me the ones I had to choose.

My friend and I visited Orlando during Christmas holidays. He rented his vehicle from Budget and I rented mine from Thrifty at Orlando International Airport. Before arriving, I thought I had a better deal from Thrifty as the rental costs were a bit cheaper when I made a reservation online. My assumption was all wrong! The agent at the airport tried to charge me additional $500 on top of $1000 that I had already paid at the time of booking. I explained to the agent that I did not need any additional insurance coverages as my own insurance covers third-party liability, enhanced accident benefits, underinsurance motorist protection, collision, comprehensive and loss of use for renting a vehicle in Canada and the US throughout.

This is what I reconfirmed with my insurance broker prior to my trip and I even showed him a copy of my insurance paper, but he (who refused to identify and disclose his name) said my insurance is not good in Florida and especially for Thrifty. For these reasons, he arrogantly refused to rent me a vehicle if I did not purchase his liability insurance. What other options did I have? It was 11:30 pm with 2 of my little children & my wife so ready to go to bed. After a long argument, I was forced to agree to pay $300 more including $93 for highway tolls that I did not sign up for (all I was asked was whether I would be driving on highways, which I thought was a very weird question when asked). Moreover what is worse, I made a reservation for an SUV but what I got was a pickup truck. They said that is all they had. Wow.. Of course, all my luggage got soaking wet after a few days later when it rained heavily.

My friend had none of these problems at Budget (he did not purchase any additional insurance coverages; highway tolls were charged per instance only). My advice to whoever is trying to get a cheaper deal from Thrifty? DON’T! They will rip you off & you’ll end up paying a lot more! Pay a little more at reservation and rent it from Budget. The lineup is way shorter at the airport, too.

When we got to the counter the lady took the reservation number and then proceeded to do a different rental agreement for less money. Since we had already paid priceline, there was not enough money left on the credit card for this new agreement plus the deposit so we had to change cards and add myself as added driver.

I had originally declined insurance but without my knowledge she added basic coverage to the new agreement. The new agreement was 233.34 and $433 was held. My daughter ended up keeping the car for 2 extra days after we called and they said it would be 33 extra per day. After all is done, Thrifty charged me 364.79 for the extra 2 days plus priceline charge of 213.75. Thrifty has refused to give me a complete itemized statement for the complete rental and Priceline is not doing anything at all. The agent at the counter was trained well in how to scam a person from discounted rate and add things to the rental without anyone's knowledge. I have now paid almost $600 for a rental that was suppose to cost me $250 at most.

A family member had been placed on Hospice care and had organ failure. We had a 6 hour flight, needed to get the rental car before making the 2 hour drive. We rushed and did not realize we had been charged for insurance. I called Thrifty and they refused to refund the inaccurate charge, because I had signed the contract. Totally unacceptable. I will never use Thrifty again.

This was by far the worst experience with a rental car company. Waited in line at Toronto Pearson airport for almost an hour. There was one person working the counter and the line up was always 6 persons long. The agent was very slow taking more than 30 minutes with each customer. What a terrible experience. For the busiest airport in Canada you would think that having more than one person working the counter would make sense as they would know how many reservations are there. Do not use this company if you can avoid it at all cost.

I try to find where I left a review last time which was under Google so another nightmare. I returned the car on the 29th. After the lady behaving racist and hostile. It took me three hours to get a car only because two men in the back helps me, the lady was mad because I didn’t wanna buy their insurance. I wanted to use my own insurance I couldn’t login to my credit card app and it said it was overdrawn over $200. I gave Thrifty $200 deposit. Why did they take $400 out my card saying because I smoked in the car. I went to go see my grandkids. I do not smoke. All the car smell like cigarette. I spent $70 to detail their car. They gave it to me dirty with pollen all over it. Floors dirty. Food on the floor and then you take $400 and they said I need to wait seven days that the representative on the phone would get in touch with them. Overdrafted my credit card and took an additional $200.

Never again. Never again do not use this place and I try to tell people paying for their insurance is a scam. I don’t buy their gas. I got my own insurance. I buy my cars from rental car places. I buy my car from Enterprise. I rent all my cars from Enterprise. When I was a new driver I just pay $1800 for their insurance. It’s a scam. Use your own insurance. Take good care of their car whether it’s dirty or not. I always have a detailed, so now I have to wait a few days but to overdraft my credit card and I’m already going through it with my credit for this 6 months is a mess. My reputation is so good with rental cars. Sometimes when I’m bored I rent a car. I have a brand new car. I keep a brand new car. I have a 2021 smart car. Very sporty. Sometimes I get bored and I rent cars. The rental car places lent me so much. For a $300 rental car they give it to me for $80. I am so offended. The audacity after all that I went through.

I had an absolutely dreadful experience with Thrifty. Their service was subpar, and I encountered numerous issues during my rental. When I expressed my concerns, they offered a mere $100 voucher as compensation, which I had no interest in. I tried to communicate my preference for disputing the charges or receiving a discount for a future rental, but they seemed uninterested in addressing my concerns properly. It's clear that they prioritize their voucher offers over customer satisfaction. Because of this experience, I will never use their services again. Thrifty's lack of customer-centricity and their dismissive approach to resolving issues make them a company to avoid.

I refused to hang up saying I didn't believe they would call. The call was obviously from a residence as I could hear kids and yelling in the background. She admitted no one was going to call and hung up. The TD insurance agent doesn't work weekends and don't bother leaving messages as I left three, all unreturned. I wish I could give negative reviews. The car was not cleaned when I rented it. I took pictures of the outside and of the gas as I noticed that was less than half full and they want to charge $5.37 a gallon if you bring the fuel back on empty. I found the following items when I was unloading my car of groceries. I contacted customer support and was told that I'd need to fill out a survey on the Thrifty website regarding the tank not being full AND then another claim for the trash and condom left on the floor in the back seat. The CS rep responded that I should bring the car back immediately as someone will be looking for the shoes. I told her that since they couldn't clean the car BEFORE I rented it that I would be bring it back, when it was convenient for me. I rented this car to allow my daily life to not be disrupted while awaiting my car to get fixed. Even though it's protocol to clean the car before it's rented, they did not.

After 3 weeks, my car was finally ready and I returned the vehicle, at my convenience. I was instructed by email to ask for a manager when I returned the car. I did mention this and the manager never came out. I also had to show them gas tank wasn't full to avoid them charging me for not filling the tank up. The front desk person reviewed my pictures, but the manager never came out to apologize or anything. Today I followed up via email about being compensated for the car and was told they didn't charge me for freight and that they can't refund me money as I should have returned the car. I've got pictures and they're uploaded to my Google review.

The line to get to the counter was an hour and 15 minute wait. When I got to the counter the representative told me I reserved the wrong type of vehicle, which is the same that I heard being told to the 3 renters in front of me. When I requested the gasoline vehicle I was told that it was going to increase my fee by over $400. I reluctantly accepted the electric vehicle and was told to go to the Hertz building to get my car. Ok, who am I renting this vehicle, from Thrifty or Hertz. That question was never answered.

I requested a mid-sized SUV and then was told all they had were “Kia Soul” sized electric vehicles and I wasn’t accepting that vehicle. It was too small. Then miraculously a Kia Niro became available, loaded our bags into the vehicle and got to the exit to find out there was only 30% left on the battery. UNACCEPTABLE! I was already late for my grand-daughter’s 1st gymnastics competition and didn’t have the time to sit and recharge this vehicle. We then stood in the parking lot for (approximately) 15 minutes when they decided to finally give us a dirty EV-6 which was the size of vehicle I requested and It had 90% in the battery. We missed most of our grand-daughter’s 1st competition (saw 1 of the 3 events) then headed north to our next stop where we figured out there was NO CHARGING CABLE in the vehicle to recharge overnight.

The next morning stopped at the local diner (charging station) to find 8 Tesla charging stations full with 4 vehicles waiting. Trying to get to an early afternoon lunch date, but had to stop at the local park-n-ride lot with 2 charging ports. After connecting, we were made aware of that this process was going to cost us 8 hours and 20 minutes to get to 100%, we decided to disconnect and risk not having enough electricity, but the system would not allow us to disconnect the vehicle! It took numerous calls, lots of frustration and 45 minutes more of our time to get the company (EV-Connect) to remotely disconnect the vehicle. With no added charge to the vehicle, just more wasted time.

This part of the fiasco turned out our early afternoon lunch date into a late dinner date. We parked the vehicle at the nearest charging station, which was about 1/3 of a mile from the restaurant where we were meeting. Mind you, it was 5pm walking on Rt. 17 north in the dark and in the rain. We waited 3 hours of charging time and got 20% of a recharge, just enough power to get us to our overnight and 2.5 hours late for our dinner date. This is NOT how vacations are planned to go! …And all because of being (financially) bullied into taking a vehicle I never wanted in the 1st place.

The Thrifty organization is impossible to get anyone on the phone, so I reached out to the Hertz people who within 22 minutes on Monday morning had a replacement (gas) vehicle secured for us to swap into. When asked the question,”…don’t these electric cars come with “Charging Cords,” ..the agent at the Hertz location replied, ”some do, some don’t!” At this point I don’t even know who to hold responsible for this mess, but with this agent’s answer, both Thrifty and Hertz are culpable for (knowingly) renting vehicles that are not in the best interests of their customers. What an absolute sham.

Wait was too long (~90 minutes) and kept growing. I didn't get what I prepaid. I reserved an EV and I asked if the car I will be getting if the fast charger uses a CCS or CHADEMO port, and he said he didn't know. This is equivalent to not knowing what octane of gas a car takes. He then says they don't have the Kia Niro, which was the option I ordered (midsize SUV EV), and that they have Chevy Bolts (a EV Sedan) but are running low and ask if I want to upgrade to a gas SUV at $50 a day. At this point, I am already an hour late and the agent has not been able to answer any of my questions. Being told my car was not available and sprung with a modification to the reservation at the counter was frustrating. Being charged nearly triple the already-unnecessary amount I was quoted is salt in the wound.

Another issue I had: I called customer service to make sure I could return the car early 12 hours early (instead of 9/9 at 10AM, changed to 9/8 at 10PM) and make sure I do not incur an "early rental fee." The wait was not terribly long (~15 minutes). I let the lady on the phone know that I am returning it early, and she said the rate would change to a lower amount and she would e-mail the reflection in 30-45 minutes. I did not receive an e-mail and the rental agreement remain the same on there. I decided to call back two days later to make sure the change was reflected.

The guy on the phone was confused, because he said in his system it said 9/8 at 10AM! So I had him confirmed to change it to 10PM. He then said it will change the amount, and that amount was higher than the amount the lady said, but also $3 lower than the estimated amount I originally had, which doesn't make sense because I am returning it 12 hours earlier. I asked for an e-mail and had him read it out to me. Never got an e-mail and my rental agreement remained the same online. Overall, customer service was not engaged and not helpful because they misheard me. I have let Thrifty know of my poor customer experience and they said they would get back to me in 10 business days and that has never happened. I will not rent from them again.

However, I had seen that there was a chance I would be charged for a “young adult fee” seen as I am only 20, but there was nothing in the policy that said how much that fee would be, only that it varied depending on the location. I called numerous times to ask about the fee and even left 2 voicemails, nothing was answered.

I eventually contacted another location that was close to my pick up location and they informed me that they charge an extra $19 and typically “charge the customer when they pick up.” This would come out to an extra $95. When I got to the counter to pick up the car, they wanted to charge me a $500 deductible on top of what I already paid and what I still have left to pay. This was NOT on my receipt. I made a reservation in July for a rental car in October with Thrifty Car Rental.. When I arrived October 6th in the evening I was told by Thrifty staff that Corporate had closed them because there were no cars and we would need to go to another company. I made a reservation 3 months in advance to have a car available when I arrived, not to need to reserve from somewhere else at arrival. Not only did it take me 2.5 additional hours to complete another reservation at a different agency but it cost me almost 2x the cost of the Thrifty reservation. My original reservation had been for approx $370 and I ended up being charged at the second car company over $750. I had no choice as this was the only company with available cars that evening and I NEEDED a car to drive another hour to a hotel and wedding.

It is not acceptable to 1) not have a car available when one was reserved. Better management of stock of available cars seems essential and customers should not be put at a disadvantage when this doesn't happen by others. 2) When a reservation cannot be honored, at a minimum Thrifty and staff need to assist customers in obtaining another reservation at another company with the same rate and agreed upon cost to that customer. There is nothing acceptable about a staff simply stating they are closed and no additional assistance is available. Customers are clearly not valued at Thrifty. While I received a refund for money already paid to Thrifty for the non-existent rental, additional compensation from Thrifty seems only appropriate due to the additional time and expense and situation I was unacceptably put in.

I contacted Thrifty two times prior to receiving a response to my complaint and their offer was a $20 voucher, which is laughable in terms of financial compensation or any attempt to recognize inconvenience to customers or the unacceptable business decisions this company is making. When I responded that a $20 voucher was unacceptable in terms of amends, I received only an email response stated they appreciated my contacting them and hope they are able to serve me again soon. These business practices are unacceptable for a company attempting to create a customer loyalty. Given the number of other car rental agencies that exist you would think Thrifty would want to ensure customers continue to choose them versus guaranteeing that we will look elsewhere in the future by their lack of customer service. I will no longer rent from Thrifty and will widely share with those I know to choose elsewhere.

I was charged $82 for road and airport fees.$77 for tax at 15%. They also hold $500 at the time of pickup. Do not rent from Thrifty. I usually use Enterprise, and this experience reminded me of why. Thrifty, please, please disclose fees to people using your services. I've reviewed my reservation multiple times and do not see any of this. This is a gross, negligent, dishonest practice.

Beware with this car rental company, I am outraged and very disappointed, to say the least. I rented a car in Germany for 19 days, booking via expedia.ca. The car I received was smaller than what I had ordered, (Fiat Mini as opposed to VW Polo), and the cost was more than double of what I had booked. When picking up the car in Landshut, Germany, I was forced me to pay extra for insurance, although the initial contract said that when paying by credit card, theft and liability insurance are covered by my card. This is not the first time I have rented a car, and I have never encountered such insidious tactics. The extra insurance cost amounted to 333 Euros, the rental was 317 Euros. When corresponding with Thrifty by email they asked for minute details about exactly what it is that my credit card company would cover, and when providing these details, they stopped responding.

They later used this as justification for denial when I put a dispute on the card. Instead of just working with Capital One, they started repeatedly billing. We used the car for three days and returned it full of fuel. Fast forward 5 days and less than half of the deposit is returned. I'll called Thrifty and asked why and they said there was additional insurances and fees. I explained none of this was disclosed at the time of the rental and they basically said tough. When we arrived at the Thrifty Rental Car location at the Love Field Dallas Airport on September 2, 2023, at about 12:30 p.m., the vehicle we had paid for was not available. In fact, only one vehicle was on the lot when we arrived. There were about 20 customers waiting at the place when we arrived. The Thrifty employee told us that they did not know when our vehicle would arrive but estimated that it could be one and a half to two hours. We were told that if we left the location to get some lunch and our pre-paid for car came in while we were away, they would not hold the vehicle for us until we returned.

While we waited, new customers arrived, only to be told the same thing by the Thrifty employees. Surprisingly, one couple said they had reserved a car just ten minutes before, online. Nobody warned them that the Thrifty location at that airport had no vehicles. The wait time for our vehicle was grossly underestimated. We did not get our vehicle until 4:50 p.m., more than four hours after we arrived.

Background: I recently had an experience with Thrifty Car Rental at Chicago O'Hare International that left me feeling extremely disappointed, frustrated, and deceived. I booked the rental using my Capital One Venture X Credit Card, which comes with primary rental insurance and up to $75,000 in coverage.

Check-In Experience: Lack of Transparency. Upon arrival at the Thrifty counter, I was asked if I'd like to prepay for gas, to which I answered no. The representative then informed me that I needed to pay a $200 deposit, refundable upon return of the vehicle. He handed me a booklet and asked me to complete payment on a card terminal. At no point did he ask if I wanted to add on Loss Damage Waiver or Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS). There were also no checkboxes or prompts on the payment terminal for these add-ons.

The Unpleasant Surprise: Hidden Costs. A few days after returning the car, I received an email receipt charging me $387.77 (the actual rental cost should have been covered by the credit card points). To my shock, the charges included fees for services I neither requested nor was informed about. When I returned to the counter to discuss the charges, the manager flatly said there was nothing he could do and that I had "signed everything on the pay terminal."

Unethical Practices: Intentional or Systematic? Not only did the representative fail to communicate these additional services, but the company also appears to intentionally mislead customers by providing a booklet that only ambiguously mentions these charges. It's either a significant lapse in training or, worse, a deliberate scheme to pad bills without customer consent.

Conclusion: Proceed with Caution. This incident may reflect the actions of one employee, or it may indicate a systemic issue within the company. Either way, the lack of transparency and accountability is inexcusable.

I cannot recommend Thrifty Car Rental after this experience, and I caution anyone considering their services to be vigilant about what you're being charged for. Your signature on their payment terminal may commit you to costs you never intended to incur, and based on my experience, the company will not take responsibility for their lack of clear communication. I'll be reporting this incident to consumer protection agencies and will strongly consider taking further action to ensure that others are not taken advantage of in the same way.

Sorry for the lengthy post. Rented a car through Expedia, paid at time of booking with a small balance to be paid at pick-up at MCO - Orlando Airport. So far so good. Got to the airport, went to Thrifty, check-in and handed agent the Expedia confirmation paper with balance to be paid. Still so far so good. She asks do I want to pay for a toll pass? I said NO. Pay for prepaid Gas? I said NO, I will bring car back with a full tank. Still so far so good. Vacation starting off good.

This is where it all went downhill and where the scam/fraud begins. She's typing away and asks me to insert my credit card in the terminal the size of an Iphone and sign. I did as instructed expecting to pay the Expedia balance. The terminal does NOT display a dollar amount only the Thrifty picture. Once approved only then (post signature and approval) does she show me the printed charges that now have damage and liability. I explained I did not approve these charges and you never mentioned them to me. She went on and on that I cannot drive the car without paying the additional charges even though I have coverage with my CC and car insurance. After going back and forth and looking like a fool I told her I would dispute the charges through Expedia.

I called upon arriving at my destination and after 2 hours with Expedia (who went back and forth with Thrifty) I was told I would get refunded upon returning the car to the Airport. I have an email that confirms this. Upon car drop off Thrifty did NOT refund me even though it was noted. They told me my file was closed. Now I am really upset. After getting home I called Expedia multiple times on multiple days and told them this is FRAUD. I told them my contract was with YOU and not Thrifty as they had started to shift blame and told me to call Thrifty. I kept escalating, threatening fraud was committed until I finally got my refund.

So you may ask what is the point to book through Expedia if you get up-charged by Thrifty as I have read previous posts here where this has happened to others regularly? Great question which I have no answer for. At the airport Thrifty told me Expedia provides a service, we provide the car. No ** Sherlock!! Moral of this experience.

    * Keep calling. Don't let them wear you out.
    * Thrifty are scammers, at least I was.
    * I don't use this word often but it was fraud.
    * Thrifty agents have very little/poor customer service skills.
    * Do **NOT** under any circumstance insert your credit card until you see the charges in advance.
    * Contact your credit card provider and tell them you did not authorize the charges.

    * Pay extra and go with a reputable company.

Received my car and it stunk like cigarette but I just drove off. Upon returning I get an invoice for $330.00. The first fee is some additional insurance that I REFUSED and then a cleaning fee for 200$. I’m sorry but why are they charging me $200 to clean the car? They should be cleaning in between patrons and honestly that was the reason they told me I had to wait 3 hours for my car. Then I tried to get ahold of someone and it took forever to find a number to call and of course they were closed and the inquiry template they gave me conveniently didn’t work.

When I finally got a hold of someone the women was less than helpful. States she had to submit a form to have the charges be requested to be refunded and if the company agreed they would refund them. Otherwise I was sol. She told me I could call back to confirm the decision in 7 business days. Like what the actual hell! They have the worst customer services ever! I would never ever recommend them!

Original Review: We are from Toronto, Canada. We rented a THRIFTY car from Expedia month ago (June 28th, 2023), Expedia charged us $1000 at booking. We picked up car at LA, we were told by counter, my standard size car all are rented out, asked me to upgrade to compact SUV. We denied all insurances, additional driver..etc. As our credit card covers all insurance, and signed the paperwork as usual. We made my biggest mistake, that 1) We didn't read through, and 2)We didn't ask for the copy. After We returned the car on July 13, 2023. We were billed for additional US$1632, except $1000, the initial charge by Expedia at booking, in the total of C$3200 for 16 days Honda HRV compact SUV. Expedia contacted THRIFTY, the agent from THRIFTY told Expedia that We agreed all insurances and other charges, and SIGNED. We are dealing with Expedia to see if We could get any refund. I will post the final result soon.

Updated on 08/12/2023: One month after car rental. I have contacted EXPEDIA for TD FIVE times. I think the call center is outsourced to India. A few high-school youth answered my call. One girl hanged up my call as she had to take care of her mom in the hospital. No doubt, they can't do anything. I was told the case had been escalated to their manager, and return call were expected within 48 hours, however, I was never received a callback. So I contacted THRIFTY customer service directly. They replied to me, said they can't refund us anything as we signed the agreement, which was NOT complied with our verbal talk at pickup counter.

I hope our bad car rental experience could teach everybody a lesson.
    1) READ THRU FINE PRINT BEFORE YOU SIGN!
    2) DO NOT MODIFY YOUR ORIGINAL BOOKING!

    3) Book directly thru the car rental company.

That way you have to “upgrade” and give them MORE money at the desk! Told to me by the desk agent. I contact customer service. Their answer, “it is in our policy that the car could be electric”. That’s how they get around it! NEVER RENT THEIR GROSS BASIC CARS!

My recent experience with Thrifty Car Rental was nothing short of a nightmare. I am utterly disappointed with the service and the blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. From start to finish, my encounter with them was filled with frustration and deceit. First and foremost, I had to endure an excruciatingly long wait at the rental counter. The rental agents seemed more interested in indulging in mindless chit-chat amongst themselves than attending to the waiting customers. It was evident that their priority was anything but delivering efficient service.

To add insult to injury, I faced an issue with overcharges for the Loss Damage Waiver and Premium Road Service. I specifically declined these add-ons verbally, only to discover that the rental agent deceitfully checked the "yes" box on the computer side of the contract and then had me digitally sign it. This is nothing short of dishonesty and betrayal of trust. It's unacceptable to charge customers for services they explicitly declined. Attempting to rectify this unjust situation was another uphill battle. I reached out to both Priceline and Thrifty to resolve the matter, but to no avail. They showed no willingness to address the issue, leaving me frustrated and financially burdened.

Furthermore, I was appalled to learn that I was not the only one facing such an ordeal. The previous review described a situation where Thrifty resorts to sending customers to collections when they dare to request a chargeback from their credit card companies. This is a clear indication of their lack of integrity and their unwillingness to stand by their mistakes.

In the end, there was no resolution, and I am left feeling utterly dissatisfied and cheated. I have learned my lesson the hard way, and I will never use Thrifty Car Rental or Priceline services again. I strongly advise potential customers to steer clear of Thrifty and to be extremely cautious about dealing with them. If you want a hassle-free and honest car rental experience, I suggest opting for reputable companies like Enterprise or Hertz, who have consistently provided quality service in the past. In conclusion, Thrifty Car Rental's long wait times, deceptive practices, and lack of customer support make it a regrettable choice for anyone seeking reliable and honest car rental services. Save yourself the stress and disappointment - avoid Thrifty at all costs.

When I call I'm told it will be escalated and completed in 24-48 hours. Never happens. I have asked for higher management to speak to and am told they are not on shift and will call me. Never happens. Do not rent from Thrifty/Hertz. Pay the extra money and rent from another company because this company has no clue about customer service or getting things correct. Being charged daily for a car I returned, no notes on my file even though I call every couple of days. "Let's go! "Should be replaced with "Go Away, we have your money. "

I've rented from Thrifty before and have used their customer service line to obtain updated receipts. They were helpful in doing that. Granted, their customer service is most likely located in another country, so I doubt they have a lot of knowledge about business practices. I rented a car in May of 2023 and my purse was lost, along with the key fob for the rental. I called the company and was told I would have to have the car towed to the rental place, pay a fob replacement fee, and get issued a different car.

I waited a day, and then called to get roadside assistance to tow. While waiting, I found my purse and the fob. The tow truck driver called asking where I was located shortly after. I told him I no longer needed the tow and he told me to have a great day. No services rendered. While doing a travel voucher for work, I check the updated receipt and see I'm charged for ~$360 for roadside assistance (my rental cost ~$163). I called Thrifty Customer Service (CS). She tells me she can't remove the charge on her end and it's up to the tow company, but she'll open an inquiry and it could take a while. I get the tow company number from her (ACA in Philadelphia), but it was a AAA number. They're confused and gave me the number for ACA. It doesn't work.

I called my bank to dispute the erroneous charges...still in progress. I called Thrifty CS again and it was a different person. He told me I was supposed to call Thrifty to tell them I didn't need the service. How was I supposed to know this at the time? I canceled with the tow truck driver. I didn't know it was a third party. And if I was supposed to cancel with Thrifty, why did the first CS rep tell me they had nothing to do with the charges? He was also very rude, kept cutting me off, and when I asked to speak to a manager (I went to Karen level), I was told they were in meetings and he would take my information and have one call me back within 24-48 business hours. Nothing has happened and that was last week. I will never rent from Thrifty again and will recommend others don't, as well.

You both have lost such a valuable customer: ME!!! All past great booking memories were shattered by your poor management skills! had a $102.23 prepaid hot rate car rental booking for 5:30 PM on July 9, 2023, booked ahead of time per Hotwire email dated June 28, at 1:47pm, and when I finally reached the counter after 10 PM because you were all backed up and had a ridiculously long line, you "forced me" to keep an electrical vehicle which was the only type left in your inventory. Flattering? Not in my case if I have to be bothered by finding a charging station!

You do not do fair play, you took more bookings than what you could handle based on your inventory, you must "learn" how to operate a business, you do not deserve to be an active car rental facility, you run unlawful practices. Per Hotwire representative during my call after arguing with the male counter person: "vehicle assigned after booking a HOT RATE is at the discretion of the car rental facility based on availability..." Of course I knew it! It is common sense!

Once again, you gave my pre-paid vehicle booked AHEAD OF TIME to somebody booking on this same day after getting a flight cancellation at LGA Airport due to severe weather, not my problem, you, unskilled female manager repeating yourself "the type of vehicle booked is listed in Hotwire email..." Not true: "VEHICLE ASSIGNED IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CAR RENTAL FACILITY BASED ON AVAILABILITY. I stepped out with no vehicle of course! Enjoy my pre-paid $102.23 dollars! Can somebody make arrangements to have this business audited? I will truly appreciate it!!!

I've rented a few times from Thrifty, and their cars tend to be older than what I have rented from Alamo. Often they smell like cigarettes or feet. My most recent rental had a smell (cigars) and a mechanical problem. The car was making a really loud squeeky grinding metal noise. I had a long way to drive and did not feel safe driving 700+ miles back home in the car. They exchanged the car for another clunker, but the only option was for me to drive a half hour in the wrong direction, spend about an hour at the airport making the switch to another clunker, and then driving another half hour to get back on my route. I also had to make a couple phone calls with Thrifty on Friday night and again on Saturday morning to make this happen, costing another couple hours of my trip. I felt they should make a partial refund for my trouble.

Each person I talked to passed that down the line - the call center said the airport location would do it, the airport location said my home location where I originated the trip from would do it, they had closed shop and hour earlier and were not there to make a refund, so I called the 800 number again. They said I'd have to wait 24 hours and call back. I called back and they said I'd have to talk to Expedia about it. Expedia said since I had purchased trip insurance from Expedia, I would have to talk to that provider, AIG about a refund. They sent me a link to file a claim.

Please do not rent with this company. This has been the worst experience with a rental car company I have ever encountered. When I arrived at the Louisville Airport, the lady at the front desk stated she had to upgrade my basic sedan to a small SUV due to them being out of sedans. The rate I reserved was $24.00 a day. I am now paying $40 a day for a 3 day rental. They also put on "basic" insurance on my rental, when I told them I didn't need any.

At the end of the transaction they told me they put a $500 hold on my credit card. The whole purpose of me renting a car was because it was cheaper than flying, had I known they put a $500 hold at the time of rental I would have just flew. I start my trip and it has possibly the worst gas mileage known to man. 10 exits before I return the vehicle I fill the tank up to the max. 2 days later after dropping the vehicle off I receive a notification that my card was charged an extra $60 for not filling the vehicle up. Fast fwd a month My card is STILL being charged for PA turnpikes. They charged my card $52.00 twice for turnpike so all together I paid about $900 for a rental car for 3 days where I could have just flew for 500. I am so disappointed and annoyed by this car company. I will not be renting with this company ever again.

Stay away from the Thrifty in "Orlando" if your time is valuable and expect a decent service. Frustration #1 It took us more than 3 hours to leave the airport, while the other car rental counter had nobody in the waiting line. Nobody was attended at the garage so we had to find somebody for about 20 ~30 minutes to get a car. Everybody seemed so frustrated.

Frustration #2 We found out that they charged $300 for the damage insurance that we clearly declined at the counter and also when we booked online, yes we had declined twice. We had to go back to the airport in 24 hours to fix it. It took 3 hours for us to go back and forth. The manager told me it was our fault because I did not check the bill before we left. An agent still tried to convince me to pay for the insurance after all of this. They became so rude that I asked the manager to record our conversation, but the manager said "NO" they don't even let me have a copy of the bill.

Clearly, they did not want public to know about this. They didn't want any evidence for this! It made me think that they did this on purpose. I was so lucky that I found the "scam-like bill" in the packet early. The manager couldn't find out why and when we had the bill, if he was telling us the truth. I saw so many foreign customers waiting in the line with us. I wonder if they had to pay the damage insurance against their will not even knowing it. (Our agent did not show the bill, just asked us to sign for the credit card, but we asked before we sign it. However, she did not show us the $300 bill for the damage insurance)

Frustration #3 By the way at booking online, the rate was $24. At the airport rate was $35? How did this happen? I had to fix this by using online service, "**". I was too tired to tell the manager there because we wasted at least 8 hours of our vacation time already for the thrifty's mistake. It seems that "**" helped us fix the problem. I have read other reviews here, and I really believe all of them. I should have read those first, so we would have enjoyed our vacation much more. No more Thrifty, at least in "Orlando."

Let me say first that the car was fine, my problem stems from the rental agent’s lies, and misleading statements bordering on fraudulent behavior. When I initially made my reservation I chose no insurance and to bring the car back with a full tank of gas which is how I’ve always done it. The agent told us that the laws in Washington state were a little different for rental cars and urged us to get the basic insurance.

Of course that was utter nonsense, but standing there in line I accepted his statement because I had never had an agent lie to me before. He then went on to recommend we use the option where they fill the tank with gas, saying it was the standard rate at any station in the area of $4.08/gallon. When we reviewed the agreement after we were in the car, we saw he had charged us over $6.50/gallon. Lastly we asked if he could give us the veterans discount. He said no because a deposit had already been placed on our reservation. I assume with everything else he told us that that was also a lie. Yes, buyer beware. I should have stayed with my initial decisions… But to have agents who out and out lie to you is horrible.

Despite numerous attempts to contact them via email, I have not received a response, and they have yet to provide me with a refund. My experience with both Thrifty and Economy Booking has left me feeling scammed.

Worst Service Ever once you have an issue! Explanation: Due to an unexpected power outage at Montreal Airport, our flight was delayed by almost two hours, causing us to arrive in Vancouver much later than anticipated. Despite arriving at the Thrifty Car Rental desk at around 12:30-12:40 AM, the representative who was there refused to provide us with the car we had pre-booked and paid for in full. Despite explaining our situation and traveling with our young daughter, no alternative solutions were offered. This was particularly distressing, especially given the late hour and our tired state (due to the time zone difference).

Another car rental company at the airport provided us with a car, even providing a booster seat and upgrading us to a larger vehicle. They went beyond and above to help us! And they were also supposed to be close btw. But they knew there were a few flights that were delayed so they waited! To make matters worse, the Thrifty representative, who said he needed to leave, returned to the desk 5-10 minutes later, asking us to take a picture of our booking and being on the call with someone else. Yet, he still offered no assistance or solution. Despite multiple attempts to contact Thrifty through phone and email, we have yet to receive a response. This is unacceptable, as we paid for a service that we did not receive, especially considering the circumstances.

In conclusion, I am disappointed with the service provided by Thrifty Car Rental and cannot recommend them to anyone. Their lack of empathy and assistance in our time of need was unacceptable, and the fact that they have not responded to our attempts at contact is even more disheartening. If you are travelling with your family, the few bucks you could save are not worth it.

I recently rented a car from Thrifty at LAX and unfortunately, my experience was not a positive one. The check-in process was confusing and frustrating, and the customer service representative I spoke with was rude and unhelpful. When I arrived at the car parking lot to select a vehicle, I was told that I could choose between a Corolla, Elantra or Sentra. However, when I got there, there were no cars available for about half an hour. I asked for help from several employees in the parking lot, and received different instructions from each of them.

Eventually, I was told that I could choose any car in Zone 3, but the way the choice was implemented was poorly executed and generated confusion. While I appreciated the ability to choose a car, the check-in process left me feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. Overall, my experience renting a car from Thrifty at LAX was disappointing, and I would not recommend this company to others. While there were some positive aspects of the rental, such as the ability to choose a car, the check-in process was poorly executed and the customer service was lacking. If you're looking for a stress-free rental experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

This location is a disaster. Do yourself a favor and avoid these guys at ALL costs. It was a three hour process to get a car. Two hours to get to the desk, then another hour to get your car. Everyone waiting was quite upset, and I guarantee, none will ever book with Thrifty again. You may be OK if you arrive before noon, but they get slammed in the afternoon. Not worth the savings. Folks were leaving the line, going to Hertz, then coming back in the rental to pick up their spouse who had maybe moved up 2 spots in line.

They only had two folks working the counter with maybe 50 people in line. They do not even prep the cars in advance, so once you get through at the desk, you join everyone else who went before you as they wait for the cars to be washed, vacuumed and gassed. They could do this at night and save some time, but basically when a car is returned, it gets lined up in front of the vacuums and the wash, and there it sits until they rent it. Then the guys shuffle them around in the line to prep them. Then around 6:00, all activity stopped for about 45 minutes, and no cars were rolled out. I can only assume that they all stopped for dinner? Or it was a shift change, but there all the customers sat and waited while nothing happened.

It’s ridiculous. I have rented cars all over the world, in some pretty bad places, and never experienced anything like this. This was my first experience with Thrifty. We had rented in Maui with them as well before traveling to Kauai, and it was bad, but nowhere near as bad as Lihue. I cancelled our Thrifty on the big island for later in the trip and went with Hertz and it was painless. We were in the second leg of our Hawaiian trip and has just travelled from Maui, so we were reasonably fresh. I felt sorry for all the folks who were at the end of a very long journey to reach Hawaii, having travelled all day, only to have this be their first Hawaiian experience. If I could give these guys zero stars, I would.

We arrived in Orlando on April 20, 2023 through Terminal C at around 11:00pm and proceeded to Thrifty Rental Counter. The counter was closed and a sign directed us to go to Terminal A & B. The line was unbelievably long. We waited over two hours before getting to the rental counter agent despite having prepaid for our rental at least two weeks in advance. It was very frustrating and stressful. A lot of customers experienced excruciating pain standing in line for so long just to get a rental agreement and finalize their reserved reservations.

This is a scam because the customers already paid for the rental in advance and the company will not reimburse anything for last minute cancellations. Please do not rent from this company regardless of price. It’s not worth the savings. They are clearly understaffed and the manager should be fired for gross incompetence. Having three or four people at the counter to serve hundred of customers is really mind-boggling. Buyer beware. You are better off paying a little bit more for your car rental than putting up with this kind of treatment. The reps are very responsible and clearly professional, but they can only service so many people at a time. The fault lies with the manager and Thrifty management who didn’t do their due diligence to make sure the counters are adequately staffed. Please note that I took several pictures to help customers understand why they should avoid renting from Thrifty Car Rental.

I booked a Mid-sized SUV at Thrifty in Las Vegas. We were going camping in Zion and Bryce national parks. I needed space for camping gear. I booked 2 months in advance to be sure I got the car I needed. We got there and had to wait 1 hour and 45 minutes for a sub-compact SUV. Way smaller than we needed. It took a lot of work to get our supplies into the car. But with the long wait and 70 other people waiting in line it was not an option to try to get another car. In addition, we were told we were in the wrong line 3 times before we finally got in the "right" line. Of course no signage to tell anyone anything and only rude garage workers to "Wbusy to be of any help to anyone. When we got home and complained we were told, well the cars were the same price so you get nothing from us," not even a real apology. Too bad so sad now go away.

We were tricked into an upgrade in Cancun Mexico that was supposed to be free and we were billed for. One of only many scams they run down there. General Customer service here in Canada will not help. They pretend to help and pretend to open claims for you, they pretend to take notes on your issues. They pretend to issue you a case number, they pretend to tell you that supervisors are looking into it, they pretend to tell you they are escalating the claim but in reality every time you call back, they ask you to go over the story and say that there is nothing attached to your supposed case number and there’s never any follow up. They regularly hang up on you after you’ve been on the phone for extended periods of time with them on hold and waiting for them to deal with stuff.

It is clear that they are running strategies to get people to give up and just accept that they have been fleeced by the company. I have never experienced a type of run-around in the lack of ability to speak to a human being in any sort of position to help me, as I have with thrifty. If you call any of their offices you are told only a corporate office can help you. You call the corporate office there’s absolutely no option to speak to anybody other than recorded messages for any of the options on the phone and pressing zero isn’t an option. You are stuck with only the general customer service line, as mentioned above.

My original reservation had to be canceled so now I have to wait on the refund as well as paying for the suburban, this car rental or deal was supposed to be for three days and so far the cost is at $3000. I'll first admit that others have had it worse than I. That said, I lack the words to accurately describe how poorly this business is run and how predatory their practices are. Now I've never had a *good* experience with renting a car but this was a low for sure. We were in Orlando which I'm told is always a hot mess. There were probably 60-80 people in line when I arrived in the line for our car. Thrifty clearly gives zero **** about their clients time because they varied between 2-4 employees processing customers (out of 10 terminals) and they certainly weren't in any rush. After 2+ hours, I was called up to the desk. The lady told me Thrifty is terrible to work for, they don't pay well enough to have needed staff members on site and she was sorry in advance. I declined all of their ** add on services and I was good to go.

They rented this car to myself and another guy who showed up as I was pulling out so I felt bad for him but I guess that didn't affect me to badly. Now I'm back home and the least shocking end to the story is that I'm now fighting unapproved charges to my credit card. I used 31,128 CC points to secure this rental and I know from past experience, there is always additional cost I have to pay out of pocket. I don't understand why this is since the airlines don't **** their customers this way but rental car companies are their own ugly animal. Based on Budget's unscrupulous fee schedule in the past, I was expecting between $50_$100 in extra nonsense fees. Not looking to disappoint, the Thrifty criminals charged me $276.36 total for what I guess are now called junk fees. I'm not at all surprised at how they do business, I actually expect some unsubstantiated fees with a complete ** explanation, or no explanation at all.

What frosts my ** is that they **** people this way and, literally, don't care AT ALL. I can't imagine running a business where you can lie, cheat and steal and never be held accountable. And they keep doing it day after day, often to the same people who I imagine feel they have no choice but to take the abuse in order to have a car. That will be my one and only experience with Thrifty. I'll walk to Orlando before I deal with that disaster again. You've been warned - If you were to give the car rental industry an enema, Thrifty is where you would put the tube.

I reserved & prepaid for a vehicle in May 2022 but upon arrival I was informed there were no more vehicles. This was December 2022 and everyone in line was told to take Uber and they will reimburse and to check back next or do for availability. I took Uber, then cancelled the current reservation for a refund. I was told it would be 7/10 days. Next day I rebooked and prepaid again for the remainder of my vacation. Since January 2023 I have spent countless hours on the phone with customer service representatives and via email to no avail and today is April 4th 2023-still no refund to my debit card from Thrifty.

They keep repeating the same words via email, “A refund has been processed back to you.” However, when I contact them via phone it’s, “It seems it’s still on the manager’s desk waiting to be approved so it hasn’t been processed and to wait 7-10 business days." I will no longer rent from Thrifty. This has been the worst customer service experience ever in my lifetime. Perhaps they think if time passes that I or others will forget and not fight for what belongs to us. This is not a credit or discount that I am asking for but a legitimate refund due to a service that was unavailable and not provided.

Had the worst car rental experience of my life earlier this month. Surly rental agent, long long delay (close to an hour) before I could pick up my car and exit the lot (they weren't at all busy), and to top it off - got hit with a bogus "detail charge" when I returned the car because they claimed it was "super dirty" (it wasn't). I had to go through multiple e-mails to initially dismissive Thrifty/Hertz corporate HQ to get the charge refunded. No apology was made.

It's unclear whether this bogus "detail" charge is a scam favored by the particular Thrifty location, or is encouraged on a nationwide basis by the company to help boost profits in the wake of the pandemic. If you're hit with this or other phony charges, don't hesitate to challenge them. If the company stonewalls you, know that watchdog agencies like the FTC and consumer protection division of your state attorney general's office may be interested in pursuing action.

When we had retrieved our luggage and I went to the rental counter there were approximately 200 people standing in line to rent a car. Apparently there was a boat show in town. I stood in that line for 1 1/2 hours. They only had at best three or four clerks working on that crowd which is unacceptable. When I finally got to the front of the line 1 1/2 hours later I was told sorry we have no more cars there will be a 5 to 7 hour wait for you to get a vehicle.

My wife and I ultimately canceled and came back one day early on the airline. This is poor management. They have a computer system that tells them how many cars they will need. They also should have called all extra staff to make sure that the counter was fully manned so that 3 to 400 people would not stand in line waiting for cars for no reason. They knew this crowd was coming. It is amazing that they could possibly stay in business with this business model. A five-year-old could have done better planning!

I recently traveled to Myrtle Beach and had a wonderful time in this beautiful city, however, after filling the car up to capacity with gas upon the return of my vehicle, I was assessed a fee of $48.85. When I called their office to alert them of this charge, they claimed the car showed it was 4 gallons short of being filled to "full", which is completely false as the car would not take any more gas as I filled the tank. As a result they, charged me 9 dollars a gallon (seriously).

When I emailed Thrifty the copy of my receipt from my Regions ATM account, they emailed saying they needed an actual tangible receipt. When I reached out to where I purchased the gas, I was told they could not produce a copy of my gas receipt. I immediately called Thrifty again and the receptionist explained I would be out of luck in terms of gaining my $48.85 back. Unbelievable. Can't make this up. I am a regular traveler and I have never encountered situation such as this! Again, DO NOT patronize this Thrifty location.
