At first I thought the pricing was great and this is too good to be true. Turns out I was right. 2 months after I returned my rental (in perfect condition and with a full tank) - I started receiving charges to my account from Thrifty. After getting nowhere with their customer service on the phone - I had to dig deep to get a receipt of the charges. They had charged me for a fuel (even after I returned with a full tank). They had also charged me for the warranty and the roadside assistance after I had said no. I had to submit an inquiry to their customer service and only after 3 emails sent they refunded me my money. This is very concerning because this means they are charging people after their rentals and hoping that people don't check their statements.

I prebooked and paid for a car online. My voucher said wildcard, which according to website means chance for free up grades). After traveling over 12 hours, I get to the rental counter and they claim they are giving me an electric car and I had manager's choice so I get whatever car they say I get. That was not on my voucher, nor was there info about electric cars. I refused then the rude lady said I would be charged an extra 700 dollars WTF, cause apparently a basic and I mean basic car was an upgrade.
I get to the car, still white powder all over the floor of the driver's side, so clearly not cleaned properly, ON driver's seat looked like a drink stain. This is the first time I have ever booked with Thrifty and is my last time! Never Again!!!! I could have booked a way better car from a different company for the price. It's now costing for the supposed upgrade- more like big time downgrade. I've looked it up and car rental companies are not allowed to force you to take an electric car! Horrible dishonest cheating company. You are a disgrace.

AWFUL. I rent cars about 10x a year. Normally with Alamo or Enterprise. This time, my best friend's husband had died in an horrific accident and I needed to be there with her. To say I was distracted would be an understatement. I chose what seemed to be a reasonable car at a fair price. Car was fine, pick up was easy. I returned it 3 hours early with a full tank. Imagine my surprise when I was billed $80 OVER the signed off price! Then, the tolls began arriving.
I normally just use pay by plate as our state in not a big toll state. Using Alamo last year, my total bill for a 2 week trip was $22! Since I returned the car, I have been billed for some tolls 3 TIMES. We are now at $79 for a 5 day rental! Yes I notified this BS company about it. They said it could take 6-10 weeks for it to 'settle'. But, they are still on my card. At the worst time of my life, I was supposed to know every single toll I passed? Trips to and from the hospital to support my bestie and their children and I was supposed to notice every toll???? AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS! HORRID.

I just returned my rental car to Thrifty. I left the car in a long line and no one from Thrifty was there to accept the car. The sign said to leave keys in car. After checking my bag, I realized I left my phone charger in the console. This was an expensive multi connector type charger for all my devices. 10 minutes after I initially left the car, I returned and the car was gone. I asked one of the Hertz/Thrifty staff to help find the charger. After 30 minutes they returned to say they can’t find the charger. I want everybody to be careful if you rent from this company in Bozeman. Thieves work here, so don’t expect to get anything back if you leave anything in the car. I will never rent from this company again.

I Returned my rental at Thrifty RDU, I however was running a little behind catching my flight because I had my 85 year old mother with me. In that rush I left behind very valuable gift cards, a visor and a scarf in the console. When I realized I had left it there I was already getting ready for takeoff. I tried to call Thrifty and received the 877 number. I know Thrifty has phones at that location. I called many times with no success. The next morning I took the day off and spent it hunting down RDU's phone number, finally I called ground transportation and they gave it to me.
When I talked to the manager, nothing, it was gone 12 hours later, they said they rented the car. They lost and found employee, not a nice guy, said it was "above my paygrade", and "this stuff just happens, people lose stuff all the time. Its nobody's fault". And "The manager will call you." Well Manager never called, I did not lose my items, they were left behind. I would like my items back because they do not belong to anyone but me.

I booked my rental car as a pick-up at one location and drop-off at another. It did not indicate that there would be a service charge of $300 for this. I was at the counter when I was informed of the charge. There was not much I could do at that moment. So, I unhappily accepted it. The counter agent then tried to sneak in insurance fees which I declined online. He did not ask and it wasn't until I noticed that he removed them. He also upgraded from the car I booked online for $20 per day that I did not catch until I was on the road of $280.00
I returned the car early 6/30/2025 due to weather conditions at my home. It was raining when I returned it and the person at the rental return area told me not to wait and she would get to it. I finally (5 days later), received my final invoice and I was charged until 7/3/2025. I am due a refund of $155.97 plus tax. I contacted customer service on 7/1/2025 and waited on hold for 48 minutes to speak with someone in India. The person said it was not processed yet but assured me that it would be processed correctly and he would annotate my account. No one seems to see the note and they show the return as 7/3/2025. They obviously delayed checking the car in to scam me out of $155 plus tax for returning early and $280 for an upgrade I did not request.

DO NOT EVER RENT from Thrifty Car Rental. We were overcharged by almost $730.00. We turned the car in hours early. Declined insurance that was added on besides changed the contract amount to a lot higher charge. I have all my receipts, I owed a total balance owing of $117 after my $250 deposit. They charged me $847.88 on my credit card. I am turning them into the FCBA and the FTC! I called and got no where with them. Also declining the charge.

My review is multifaceted. I reserved an economy car online at $36 per day and was upgraded inadvertently by being told to pick any car from spaces 309-320. These weren't the Chevy Spark that I anticipated, but I didn't question it at that time. I chose a Jetta in space 311 and headed out. Later I realized that my $39 per day was actually $62.16. Strike one.
I was told at my checkout, by the very unpleasant counter person, who spoke so softly that it was very difficult to hear anything she said, that since I used a debit card for the rental, my deposit was going to be $500. If I used a credit card my deposit would be much less. Strike two. Then, I asked to decline the damage waiver fee and premium roadside service, but was charged the $147.96 and 39.96 anyway. Strike three.
And finally, the other charges for concession recovery and customer facility charges were not explained and seem redundant, for another $53.83 and $24.00. Strike... Oh wait... Well, any reader will get the point. The car was in fair shape and it got me to the funeral I needed to attend. So I guess I have to take my lumps on the chin here. But I caution anyone thinking about using Thrifty: There are too many hidden fees and no real way to address any concerns with the company.

We booked a Thrifty car rental online, naturally having to give our names in the process. Confirmation issued, all good. When we get to the Thrifty / Hertz counter the next day we're told Oh, no, you are on a Do Not Rent list, but you can call this number (Sunday afternoon, the number only staffed weekdays) so they're perfectly happy to strand night & weekend travelers. Fortunately Budget came through for us. I complain to Hertz the next day and then get back "We have checked our records, and it appears that you are no longer on suspension and are eligible to rent a vehicle". Yeah, well don't worry; we'll be sure to tell friends & family to stay away from Hertz / Thrifty and you won't see US again.

I turned in my rental Sunday, 6/22, around 430pm. Handed my key into someone at the desk and all she told me was my hold will be released at midnight. Did not give me a receipt or anything. Then this company had the audacity to charge me, falsely accusing me of returning my rental in late the next morning? DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. I have booked a Jeep Wrangler through Expedia for my daughter & my trip to San Diego. When I booked I had declined all the additional fees (additional insurance, roadside assistance, etc.). Upon arrival I was informed my car type was not available, and they were going to charge me extra for the car that was available. They eventually tell me that they could remove that charge. They never asked if I wanted the additional services (I would have declined as I did when I paid for the booking online). When asked for my credit card, I asked the reason why and they explained it was a retainer fee which would be refunded. Once I was emailed my receipt (which was about 2 hours later) & saw they were charging me an estimated additional $459 I immediately tried to call.
Unfortunately there is no person to talk to. I sent emails to their customer service, which they did respond to about 2 days later, just to say that I had agreed to it, which is inaccurate, and was responsible for the charges. I have since looked at their online reviews and see that this is a common practice. I RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE CHARGED ADDITIONAL HIDDEN FEES!!!! I have also discovered that Thrifty is owned by Hertz so I will be staying away from that company as well.

I filled out my reservation online, and went to pick the car up at LAX. In my online reservation, I declined any additional coverage on the vehicle. The total price should have been around $200. Even though I had done this prior to picking up the car, while at the desk, the service agent quickly and quietly said, "And you said you just wanted to the most basic coverage option?" I said, "Yes," obviously thinking that he was confirming the information I've already selected/provided. He quickly had me sign the paperwork, and when looking over it, I realized that he had charged me over $200 extra for coverage that I didn't ask for.
Come to find out, these service agents get commission if they sell this coverage. So I feel like I was intentionally duped into giving this guy extra money. When I contacted customer service (takes them 5-10 days to get back to you each time, by the way), they were absolutely no help. The only time they were quick to respond was when I finally disputed the charge with my credit card company. Suddenly they had plenty of time to send the credit card company a hand-written document as to why I couldn't dispute the charge. I have no respect for this company, and would never, ever recommend or use their services again. Hope the service agent enjoys his $25 commission.

If I could give less than one star, I most certainly would. My husband and I traveled to Puerto Rico for a week’s vacation. Since we were staying about an hour away from the airport, we chose to rent a car with Thrifty. On Expedia, they had better reviews than most and that is why I chose them. We ended up doubling our rental fee to pay for full coverage insurance. We ended up with a defective tire, with a bulging side wall that would have caused a blowout. Thrifty refused to replace the tire, or supply us with a different vehicle. They insisted that we drive it an hour into San Juan on the donut in order to get another vehicle, effectively ruining an entire day of our vacation and risking our safety. They were rude and we completely wasted the money on insurance. Will never deal with them again EVER.

I had an absolute horrible experience with this company. I rented a mid-sized vehicle and got a Kia Soul, after much grief and despair from their customer service representative. They do not disclose the 200.00 to 500.00 deposit when reserving online. So to my dismay I was asked for 200.00 deposit with Credit card or 500.00 with debit and a hard pull on your credit.
I can only speak from my experience at JAX FL airport. My sister had committed suicide. I was there for her memorial service. I needed a mid-sized car in order to transport family. After about an hour and half, I was SO GRACIOUSLY OFFERED a Kia Soul. This is not what I had reserved and the customer service representative gave me such a hard time about everything. I was in tears when I drove away. Never Ever will I deal with this company EVER AGAIN! I was considering an Uber ride to Gainesville. Cost 150.00 one way. I figured when I got into Gainesville I could find an Enterprise Rental, etc. Shady. Shady. Shady. BUYER BEWARE.

UNSCRUPULOUS business practices! On 5/2/2025, booked rental car through American Express. Verbally declined additional insurance and Thrifty charged a loss damage waiver fee after I verbally declined. One May 17th, I noticed two charges on my American Express bill for Thrifty Rental Car. I tried calling PlatePass for a refund on the EZPass and did not get an answer. Subsequently, I contacted American Express regarding why there were two charges for the same rental. Initially, my thoughts where it was a hold on my credit card to cover additional charges. After weeks the charges remained on my statement, thus, I disputed it with American Express as a duplicate charge.
As a result of the dispute, I received an email from Hertz (Thrifty Parent Company) stating that I agreed to add additional coverage at the time of my rental. At no time did I agree to additional coverage. I found my original agreement and sure enough it was not a charge for the rental car, the charges were for loss damage waiver which I declined at the time of the rental and for a toll pass that I did request. This appears to be a case of rental agents using unscrupulous practices to generate revenue and increase their personal pay through incentives associated with selling additional products. Never have I agreed to insurance to a rental agreement! Hertz needs to investigate this pattern of behavior and take the necessary disciplinary actions for employees with unethical behavior. I will never rent another vehicle from Thrifty or Hertz Rental Car Company.
This compliant does not even deal with the fact that the vehicle had been in an accident and had considerable damage on the driver’s side. There were scratches and other dings on the car as well and the inside was filthy. Grateful that I took pictures of the damage prior to leaving the rental garage. It was disturbing to hear the person who walked me to the car say that everything was good I had to bring the damage to his attention. Do a better job with hiring. Consumers have a choice regarding where they spend their hard-earned money.

Reserved the car, prepaid for it, and filled all the extra paperwork for "skip the counter". When we got to the reservation desk, no one had any "skip the line" names up. We waited in line for 45 minutes, then after signing all the paperwork, we were told that they didn't have any cars and it would take 1.5 hours for a car. As the reservation was pre-paid, and we had already waited in a line, and all the other car rental locations had long lines as well (but they did have cars available) we decided to wait it out. Not the right choice, it was almost 3 hours before we finally got a car. What made it even worse, was the attitude of the counter agents. I know it was not their fault, and that they had to deal with everyone, but their standard response to anyone asking for their car, or any kind of concession, they said: "It's in the contract you signed. If you don't want to wait, you can just cancel the reservation" Absolutely no empathy or customer service. Never again!

I reserved a car for Thrifty on Edmonton/AB Airport on economy.com, from February 14 to March 04 at 10 am. First, at the middle, I asked if I could returned, since I no longer had need for, they said if I do, they would still charge the full agreement. Then, I did returned on March 04, as per the due date on the contract. Checking my credit card, they charged me $785.09 (economy.com) on February 14, but the contract says $642.00, and then no March 05 they charged an extra $314.55.
I was travelling, didn't notice it was $785.09 at first and never expected that would ever happened. But then I saw the $314.55. So I phoned then, thinking it was a mistake, it turns out they are contesting that my contract ended on March 03 and that was for an extra day of renting. I told them, I have the contract in front of me and it says: "This vehicle must be returned to .... on March 04". They said I was wrong, I offered to send the copy of my signed contract, they refused, instead they sent a copy of non signed contract charging for 1 extra day at $314.55. After I saw that on February 14 they charged $785.09 instead of $642.00, I phoned them again, they said the manager would phone me, never happened. Phone days later, same story, manager never phoned me. After the 5th time, I decided to contest the fee with my credit card company, that's all I can do. Thrifty is the worst Crooks I ever had a business with, I never saw anything like that in my 50+ years.

How is that possible when I booked plenty in advance and the car was set to be sitting here waiting for me when I arrived? Then to be brushed off by the employees and told they will call us when one is ready. We're now missing once in a lifetime plans (wedding) because this company decided to overbook rather than value the fact their customers may have places they actually need to be. Thrifty car rental in April 2025 from San Diego Airport rental car conglomerate. The reservation we had made online was lost. We decided to rent on site. Big mistake. We were kind of stuck. Thrifty employee was very "nice"and offered to give us his employee discount. We were told that our costs w/o that would be $700 plus for 5 days but with his discount, he could get it down to a little over $500. We went through the option of gas prepay, and rejected that option. Nothing was mentioned about extra insurance and we were not asked to accept or deny that. We were then told to initial a section that was just "a formality" that I could not even read.
We were both so exhausted with the process at this point, I just initialed it. We got our printout after using our credit card and were directed to were to pick up the car. We got into the car, took a deep breath, and took a glance at the receipt. It was for $725+. More than the $200 over amount we had been quoted by the agent but at the bottom were told it could go up to as much as $925, depending on the condition of the car upon return. So, my husband walked back over to the rental office and was told that because we are walk-up customers, we are required to purchase the insurance and the extra $200 at the bottom of the receipt will only be charged if the car is damaged.
The extra charge for insurance was $189.75 and the additional concession fee, tourism assessment charge, vehicle license fee, and two more taxes were $125.98. For the total of $725.37 for a 5-day rental. We had more than enough coverage of insurance without any additional being needed if we had just been asked. However, when we questioned these amounts, the staff member made it sound as if it was a requirement because we were walk-up customers. Since then we have researched this and found that this is a common tactic amongst Thrifty and other rental car services. I think everyone should be very very aware of these tactics and don't let your frustration and exhaustion allow these people to put this over on you! You do not have to take their additional insurance!

I really don't know what led me to Thrifty but it was certainly not price. I used this service at Myrtle Beach. Customer service at pickup desk was horrible. I was the only customer so I wouldn't say there was any obvious work pressure. There was no welcoming vibe and every single question asked was met with a brick wall. This seems to be a culture at this location because I also had questions on the return leg and was just met with hostility, blowing my questions off when I queried the way their contract was worded. They assume every customer should know that "overdue" refers to 3 days (which is not an industry standard) and no grace period is given for return. Entrepreneurs invest so much effort to stage and keep a business running while some employees do nothing but sabotage those efforts.

We wanted to make it right after realizing we didn't have coverage. However, they charged us $707.15 total for the damage.
I have reached out via phone call twice & over a dozen emails. The receipt I received 1.5 months later showed we paid for a rock chip repair AND a windshield replacement. After 1.5 hours on the phone with Thrifty and even talking with a supervisor, I was told that I only purchased a voucher from Expedia that only went torwards the full price of the rental. Thrifty would not do anything to help me. I have never heard of anything like this in my life and am outraged. Please do not rent through Hertz /Thrifty!

We rented a car for 3 days in March 2025. The car sounded like the motor was falling out. When I pulled off an exit and crawled under the car, I found that the converter shield was not attached completely. We contacted the roadside service number and explained this. We kept the car since we were 50 miles away from the airport and reported it upon return. We weren't even given a credit for the problem. I reported it on the survey when we got home. I was told they would contact me within 3 days. I get an email saying the file is complete (with no contact or adjustment). I just got a charge on my card for tolls. We paid cash and each toll both and never used the pass lane. I have discovered that they do not have a contact number that a person answers. Never rent a car from these people. Hertz and Dollar are also connected to them.

Thrifty Car Rental..which is part of Hertz is the worst service I’ve had in my entire life. I reserved a small sized car online for one day (one person) trip that I needed urgently that was for $56 online ($32 a day plus taxes and such) and when I got there not only did they take a whole hour to provide the service but they also wanted me to get back and wait at a different line and was told they only had battery operated cars for long trips. (Battery operated cars are bad for snowy weather and long trips when there’s no charging stations around) and I was in Reno in snowy weather..(so that made no sense at all). The only thing they could do is upgrade to a huge 6-8 passenger SUV that would cost me $100 more for one day. Then when I looked at my receipt it was a total of $240. They knew I needed to get past the mountain as the snow storm would be coming in soon so I needed a car ASAP.
They took advantage of the situation. The woman at the counter had a bad attitude and when renting out the car they gave me the wrong slot number so I had to go back and forth trying to find the vehicle as no one walked me to my assigned car. It also said on the app that I would be given a ride as a courtesy back to my car when I got to my destination, when I got there I was told there was no such thing so I had to take Lyft (another extra charge). The car wasn’t even clean..it was left dirty inside and out. They don’t even bother washing it or cleaning it out for you. It was a horrible situation I never want to experience again. Out of so many places I’ve rented from I’ve never had such awful experience! I would give them a negative star rating if I could.

When called to ask about the additional charges, no one could give an answer, it was always have to go to the location where made. Trip ended up being extended for a couple weeks without the ability to go back even after multiple attempts over the phone to resolve.
When back at the airport she was told they were being resolved but had to wait till the next day for the manager to be there, conveniently when she was already gone home and not there to dispute it in person, they charged $7,168.51 for a Mazda SUV for three weeks when that was what was reserved to start with for $575.23 per week. 01/25 Rented Nissan Sentra during winter weather. Asked if it had all season snow tires. They assured me the car was equipped for winter. Upon inspecting the car, the sidewalls appeared to have good tread, but I noticed a couple of dents and reported those. Day 3, I get the car stuck in less than 2" of snow. Hopped out and with the wheel turned could see that all tires were bald! Called roadside service and was told it would be a $200 fee or I could use my own insurance.
During 14° windchill, using ice melt, shoveling, an old rug and finally some rubber floor mats that were lent to me, I was able to get the car unstuck. Wanted them to provide me with a different car but they said I would have to come to them. Also the car had ZERO windshield washer fluid and had to use the key fod manually due to low battery. Can't help but wonder, if tires so bald, when were the brakes last inspected? Will be seeking legal advice concerning negligence and endangerment based upon consumer protection laws.

AVOID THRIFTY CAR RENTAL at ALL COST..... because if there is even a tiny hiccup in the rental process, YOU WILL BE OVERCHARGED and ABUSED. I rented a car through one of THRIFTY's established 3rd party contractors (WISECARS)... Paid a large down payment ($700+) to Wisecars at time of rental.... and then Paid the full balance due ($380+) directly to THRIFTY at the time of rental. Other than waiting for over 90 minutes to get an available car, the remainder of the rental went well. BUT - LOOKOUT - Much to my shock, nearly 90 days after the completion of my rental... THRIFTY processed a FRAUDULENT charge of over $600 to my credit card, for the reason that they claim to have not gotten their entitled payment from Wisecars. No warning, no request for authorization, just a pass-thru charge... because they are too stupid, disorganized, and/or lazy to use their corporate clout to go after a contracted payment from one of THEIR ESTABLISHED AUTHORIZED PARTNERS!!!!
I have fought with them for weeks about this, spent 20 hours or more compiling documentation, sent a letter to their CEO..... all to no avail. They don't care at all. THEY ARE SIMPLY A BUNCH OF CROOKS, AND DO NOT HAVE ANY SHAME ABOUT THEIR PRACTICES. I will NEVER rent from THRIFTY again, and if you care about the money you earn & save for vacations or any type of travel.... I advise EVERYONE to AVOID THRIFTY.

Additional notes: I tried to ask their corporate office for help. People on the phone are completely useless. They do not know and are unable to do anything. And of course, outsourced to India. I reserved a vehicle a Jeep to get back and forth to the conference. However, the Thrifty location at the airport told me that I needed a credit card instead of a debit card, which I left at home. I had to pay a $500 deposit on top of the rental charge which was $128. I was due to return the vehicle on Jan. 20 which is the same day as my flight. However, a NATIONALLY ADVERTISED snow storm came through and it was 6in of snow, which charted unsafe conditions to drive.
I received a 2022 Chevy Malibu instead and I was told to bring the car back (drive on ice) and they will switch me in another car, which was the response message that Hertz received to extend the rental one more day. Then, once the storm blew over, I caught a flight the following day and returned the car immediately.
I have called and cannot get in touch with the front desk for Saturday or Sunday. (Jan. 18 or Jan.19). When I returned the car, it was clean, no trash, tank on full, and I was billed an extra $63 for the late return. However, THRIFTY went back and charged me another $209 FOR WHAT??? I was told that the car was returned late. So, it was an almost $300 penalty? This is insane, price gauging, and bureaucratic thievery. I was literally in a verified SNOW STORM on Sunday Jan.19 and you charge a $209 penalty plus $63 for an extra day including late fee and now I have paid $191 + 209 = over $400 for 3 days. Then basically threatened to not give us a car because she wanted to charge me more and said I had to add my wife as a second driver and if we did not we would be stuck at Sea-Tac airport. The same person behind the counter told me that I had three other people waiting for their cars and I needed to wait longer. I asked him how long this was going to take, but this time, he told me that he could not give me a time, as he did not know when cars would come in. I was now a little mad that this guy had made me wait for an hour for a car that did not exist. I continue to ask him questions and I was trying to get him to commit to a time, but he decided that it was best for me to talk to the manager.
He showed up and he told me there was nothing he could do, as he explained people extend their cars and also they come in later than their actual time, but I told him that was not my problem, as they knew that I needed a car and it should have been ready for me to pickup. This is not a Mom and Pop car rental, this is an established business, with car agencies all over the country, and this is not the first time I rent from them, this year alone I have gotten cars from them in Hawaii and Florida without any issues, I was not expecting this in California San Jose, the Silicon Valley area.
The manager Mathew ** did his best to try and get me a car, as I was walking I saw him speaking to other rental car agencies, as I was also asking every car rental agency at the airport, but everyone told me they had no cars available at that time. He later told me he had found a car, but he never came back to me and I left after waiting for two hours without a car but before I left, I asked one of the attendants to cancel my reservation, but to add insult, he explained that they had already charged my credit card a $200 deposit, and I needed to contact my card company for a complete refund, I asked him to do that, but he conveniently told me that it was up to me to get my money back.
I am not sure I will ever rent anything from Thrifty again as I would rather pay a few more dollars to get good service and a rental car available as per my reservation. It is hard for me to understand why people treat people like idiots, the manager actually told me when we spoke “I understand how you feel”, but I quickly told him.. I don’t think you do!. Just disgusting. Rented a car from them in Kona, Hawaii. Firstly, we got up-sold from the sedan that my wife and I had requested because we were told if we planned to drive around the Big Island we would need a 4-wheel drive, as the car we rented would only be good on paved roads. Having never been to the Island before we accepted what the salesman told us and upgraded. Guess what, the roads were great. No we did not drive up any volcanic mountains and we would have been just fine.
Secondly, we were told that if we pre-paid for a guess fill upon return that their guess price was cheaper than we would pay. However, if we returned it full we would get a credit for what we were charged. We’ll good old Costco was only 5 minutes from the airport, where the car rental was so we filled there and returned the car with a full tank. The car was examined and they saw that the tank was full. Guess what, no refund.
Thirdly, upon my return home I tried to contact Thrifty to complain/inquire about these two incidents. When I finally got a connection re. the full tank I was told that you only get the refund if you show the receipt upon returning the car. Guess what, we hadn’t been told this and as I noted above the car had been inspected and they could see that it was full.
Fourth, as I was getting very frustrated I went to Thrifty Rental in my home city to speak to someone F2F. The person was very nice, I showed him and sent him a copy of my credit card statement which showed the payment to Costco for gas on the day we returned the car. He made a contact and I was told that I should get the gas refund and that someone could look into the upselling. Guess what, that was almost 3 weeks ago and still nada. Fifth, tried to contact them today and the person I spoke to said that department only dealt with damaged cars. Gave me the same number I had originally contacted Re. the gas fill up and of course couldn’t speak to anyone, so still nada. Worst car rental experience ever. Can I rate less than 1 star?

I had a terrible experience with Thrifty that I wanted to share. I have rented from them before and never had an issue. This time, I made a reservation to pick up in one city and then drop off in another city. I got the price and dates locked in with my reservation and then about four weeks later, I started my travel. I got to the rental car center at RDU airport and I was shocked that the price was three times higher than what was on my reservation. The agent, who was rude, told me that is the "inter-city fee" and that was required and everyone does it. I told him I did not agree to that and it was not on my reservation. Well, that didn't go anywhere so here I am, stuck at the airport, late at night, and not sure what to do. My reservation was for a little over $400 but the bill I was given was over $1200. There was no way I would do that so I told him to cancel it and I'll figure out something else.
Hertz was right beside them so I walked over and asked about a rental there. The price was higher than I originally planned ($600) but much better than thrifty. However, the agent there was extremely rude and almost seemed angry at me when she heard me talking to the Thrifty agent. I decided to keep looking. I looked all over and contacted Avis. There was no intercity fee, the fee was higher, almost $700, but there was no hassle, they were friendly, and for a last-minute, multi-city drop-off, I thought that was reasonable. So I walked to the Avis center about a half mile away with three luggage. They were quick to get me in and even though they didn't have the car I asked to reserve, they gave me a free upgrade.
Then at the end of my travel, I had to make an emergency trip back home so I had to drop off at a different city altogether and I called Avis support. They were friendly and helped me and didn't charge any extra again. Please be careful with Thrifty or any of their sister brands. It caused a four-day delay in my plans, I had to change the events I had happening the next day and just put me in a bad mood after traveling for so many hours. "No problem" they said, just bring it back 1/2 full and they made a handwritten note on the agreement. 2.5 months later Thrifty is still refusing to acknowledge their error and demanding $117.57. And this is after the credit card company looked into it and refused to allow them to charge my card for the additional amount. And did you know that it is impossible to talk to a human being at Thrifty? The 800 number doesn't allow it. I wish I could give 0 stars.

HORRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT USE THEM!! We got to Detroit and tried to use the app to get our car. Thrifty showed the car wasn’t ready. Had to stand in a line of 20 people to finally get the car. Once outside and finally in our car, there was a really lengthy line to get out. Sadly only one person was working. After returning the car with more “Miles to empty” than we got it, I received the final bill with almost a $100 charge for fuel. They do not take phone calls. After a week I finally got a response that that were refunding the fuel. This is after charging me almost $40 more than the price I was quoted on Expedia. I think they are a scam company trying to take advantage of every customer. Will never ever use again.

The customer service at DFW is terrible. The staff and supervisors are yelling and swearing at people for asking questions. I traveled to DFW in September, had booked my car rental over a month prior, when I arrived to DFW at 9:30 P.M. the staff told me that they had no car for me because they had overbooked their cars. The staff did not accommodate the customers in any way they pretty much said "tough luck", shut down their lights and left for the night, leaving many people who had reservations to figure things out on their own. I was traveling with 2 kids under 2 so this was quite a difficult situation, especially since I had to find a different car rental company that was open at 10:00 P.M. then I had to wait about roughly 2 hours in line to get a car.
I did not leave the airport until after 12:00 A.M. Then when I called Thrifty the following day for a refund on my reservation they told me that I couldn't get a refund because I was trying to cancel a reservation a day after. This did not make sense to me at all. To top it all off, they keep on sending me emails asking me how my rental was... Does Thrifty not see on their end that I did not pick up my rental? This is truly ridiculous and disappointing. NEVER BOOKING WITH YOU AGAIN!

I took a recent trip to Las Vegas. I usually use SIXT and rent a 5 series BMW. The price was staggering. I booked a Ace Car Rental and then read the reviews (off airport property) and bailed. I booked a Premium car from Thrifty at the last minute... Paid upfront at one fourth the price of SIXT. Got to Las Vegas and took a bus to the Rental Car Center. It was 22:00 and I was tired after a 5 hour flight. Got to the counter and waited less than 5 minutes. I was greeted by a delightful lady at the counter. The process was fast and direct and she directed me out the door to a outdoor pick up counter. There I met Rowena and Terry...the night shift.
What a pleasure to deal with. Terry explained they had no premium car but she would get me one from Hertz. She handed me the contract and told me where to find the car. I was expecting a Maxima and actually got a 2024 Mercedes C300 with 1700 miles on it. I love you Terry! What a pleasant way to start my 5 days in Vegas...Baby! It only used $15.00 in gas for 5 days! I will most def see you again Thrifty! Goodbye SIXT!

I had a reservation for a car and when I got to the Thrifty Car Rental place in Las Vegas they make you wait in line with people who did not have a reservation. It took an hour and a half to get a car and not even the one I had reserved. I took it just to get out of that hot garage. I called later and returned the dirty Camry they gave me. I had a reservation for an SUV. Then spent another hour getting what I originally reserved. I feel bad for the employees because it’s not the system they put in place. I would advise not renting from Thrifty.

However, on the drive to my destination roaches came out of the dash. I arrived to my place and called customer service. They ordered me an Uber to Sarasota airport to get a different car and towed the polestar (which they charged me 227$ for). Arrived at sarasota airport and got pushback from the desk clerk which eventually gave me a Tesla. Again. Roaches came out the vents. Just disgusting. I would not recommend this company at all. They didn't even reimburse me for time out of my vacation swapping cars and dealing with their roach infestation issue.

I rented a car from the website Orbitz.com on 7/22/24 choosing Thrifty Car rentals. The trip was from July 31st to August 5th. I also purchased the hotel rooms and flights and had no problem with those merchants. I prepaid the entire car rental amount that day using a visa debit card. The car cost was $458.00 and purchased 3rd party insurance also from Orbitz.com for $60.00. Upon arriving to Detroit, I received a link to pick out my car prior to going to the car depot to pick up the car. I tried the link but it did not work. Once I arrived, I was told by the Thrifty representative the reason the pick your car online via a link that did not work was because I used a debit card.
So they asked me to insert a credit card. That is when I used the Chase visa. I told them I prepaid the car so please don’t charge me again for any items. They asked if I wanted the Thrifty Insurance / roadside assistance package. I told them no to both as I already purchased the insurance. The lady said but it’s not our insurance. I told her it’s ok I have insurance and not interested in the roadside assistance. Finally they asked about the gas option. They said I would be responsible to pay for any gas I used so if I brought the car back with 1⁄2 a tank I would pay for the other 1⁄2 tank to get it to full. I asked what the per gallon cost was and the Thrifty Representative said it was $3.77 per gallon. I said that was fine but I would bring back the car almost full of gas.
On August 4th one day prior to departing Detroit I filled up the Chevy Malibu with $33.08 of gas. I assumed I would use 2 or 3 gallons the next day to get to the airport and that’s what I would be charged for 2 or 3 gallons but they charged my $54.79 almost like there was zero gas in the car when I was almost full. I drove the car a total on 259 miles in 6 days and filled it up the day prior to departing, so why would I get charged a full tank of gas if I only drove 259 miles (that milage shows on the Thrifty statement). My wife paid off this credit card not knowing many of these charges are not accurate, and that’s why I going through the dispute.
Finally I spent hours on the phone trying to talk to a thrifty representative with no success. I found a online dispute link. I filled out the form providing much of the data you see above. They did not respond to any of my questions only sending me a list of items I was billed for that my wife inadvertently paid. I will be also uploading that email from Thrifty. Company is a total scam

If all the other 1 star ratings aren’t enough of a warning, then here it is: DO NOT USE THRIFTY. They come with a lot of hidden fees and their communication is terrible since you call to talk to someone and all you get is a bot with no answers. We chose to go the route of not picking our car to help us save money only to get there and be told that they would give us an electric car unless we want to pay more to pick a gas powered car. Well seeing as how we were in California to visit national parks where it was hard enough to find a gas station and near impossible to find a gas station with a charger for electric cars, we had no choice but to pay more for a gas powered car. Then after the trip we got hit with more fees saying we didn’t refuel the vehicle plus extra fees because of “breaking the contract”.
I called to talk to them about this multiple times and was never able to talk to a human and then I also submitted something online through their customer service and never heard anything back. We sent them the receipt showing we got gas (up to a full tank) within 10 miles of the rental place and proof that they were wrong, but they still have not responded and it’s been 3 months. So no, I would never recommend thrifty unless you like paying a lot of money for a terrible experience. Honestly till all is said and done you might as well pay more money for other rental companies because at least they will actually take care of you.

The fact that the line was a long and took me a good 30 minutes to get to someone was really pathetic because they didn't have but 1 guy working the desk and he was slow. I get to the counter and my signing in did nothing at all. I don't know why I bothered. In Travelocity you can chose your car, and I did, except it worked on the one page but came up with a spark at the end, which is the lowest of the low. So yea I also paid for insurance with Travelocity but you know the guy is asking and I told him that is what was on the reservation.... Doesn't matter....This Thrifty rental costed me a total of $500, because of the insurance he tacked on, which I already bought through Travelocity....Which is at least $150 more than it should have been.
The fact that I got it at 10pm on a Friday and returned it on Monday at 1pm (ahead of the time on the contract) means I was charged a whole lot more than I needed to be. Do I have to even give them 1 star??? Now you can't call them or do anything to have this resolved because they don't obviously take complaints....So I will do the Google review thing and tell everyone I know they are not a reputable company and never rent from them again. This was at the Orlando Airport by the way....Just in case anyone needs to know.

When renting through a website like Wisecars, you'll be told about how much you'll pay on pickup. Thrifty then adds over $200 in fees on top of that without telling you, and they'll try to get you to pay and sign without seeing the full detailed receipt. They then use your signed receipt as proof that you validated the fees, which they will imply are part of the safety deposit, which happens to cost about the same as the added fees.
I also avoided toll roads based on an explanation from the agent, but I guess they didn't tell me about other toll roads and now charged me almost double the fee just for the convenience of them paying it. I originally did the deal through Hotwire, and was given a price of $103 total for the originally requested two days with unlimited mileage. Upon return, after one day, my bill was $226.62. Clearly they didn't honor my Hotwire deal, and somehow came up with this absurd figure. I've rented cars for eight days for less of this. This was a Toyota Corolla. Nothing special. Then he moved on to prepaying for a tank of gas, again I said no and he kept pushing. While driving the car a rear tire started leaking air so I put the spare on before it went flat. Thrifty sent me to Pep Boys, whom they told to fix or replace the tire, naturally Pep Boys just replaced it. Thrifty then charged my card $164.00 for the new tire. Since this was a maintenance issue I was extremely p---ed off. When trying to get this charge reversed all I got was the run around, Thrifty is good at giving their customers the run around. I STRONGLY advise NOT doing business with this thieving company! Since they are part of Hertz, I will not do business with them either.

Worst experience I have ever had with a rental car company. I had a reservation for a car at the Boston Logan Airport, which I arrived on time for. When I went to the counter they suddenly told me about the $500 deposit, though kept insisting that I would get it back - I signed an agreement to pay $830 total for the rental, with $500 of that due to be returned to me when the rental was returned.
I then waited for over an hour while they "looked for a car" since they had run out... even though there were multiple other people there with reservations also waiting. After waiting with nothing, the agent told me I could take an electric car they had at no extra cost, and that they would waive any fuel charges if I took it. When I asked how much longer a regular car would be she said she had no idea, so I took the electric car - it was 1:30 am and I had already been waiting for over an hour. The electric car was in good shape, but it didn't properly hold a charge. It started on a full battery and ran to empty almost instantly, and it eventually got to a point that I couldn't use the car for the bulk of my trip. I then returned my car on time (with pictures to for proof), but no agent was around so after waiting and looking for someone I had to leave the keys in the car.
When they sent me the final receipt, they charged me $1300 for the rental; $500 was the deposit, buy the remaining $800 was solely for the rental - so $500 more than I had been told and signed for. They charged me for fuel, a "late return", a protection plan that I never agreed to, and so many other hidden fees that it more than doubled the price I had agreed to. Customer service doesn't exist there, you can't call and speak to anyone and they never respond. I even had my lawyer contact them and threaten legal action, and they still haven't returned any money or contacted me back. I will NEVER use this company again.

Thrifty Car Rental: Christine **. First time renting from Thrifty. I rarely make the same mistake twice, so ... Rented a car in Calgary in September. Reserved the car March 3. My flights were changed by the airline 2 or 3 times. I could no longer pick up the car because I was arriving after they closed (at 5:00). Despite notifying them to try to work it out or cancel more than 30 days in advance, it could not be worked out and they refused a refund. (Nope. Couldn't do online check in or anything else.) Apparently, somewhere on the page it said Non-Refundable. (I didn't see it.) Well whether they can legally do that is one thing, but whether they SHOULD is another. Logically, if they had allowed me to cancel and rebook another car the next morning they really would have lost nothing. But I guess they don't understand repeat business is often the easier way to get clients than to attract new ones.
In addition, there is nowhere to call and talk to a person. It is a call tree where all options lead to a recording. I tried the "Contact Us" button on their website and it also went nowhere. You know, after stealing $500+ from me, I think their car rental business is a "front" for a theft ring. I had to work through a third party just to communicate with them. Now they have my money AND they can rent the car to someone else, and heck, maybe even a third person if that doesn't work out. I will of course steer clear of them in the future and screenshot every car rental page before purchasing in the future.

Original Review: We reserved our car weeks in advance at $33.49/day. My husband paid $66.98 at the time of reservation. 30 minutes before our assigned pick-up time Thrifty Car Rental sent me text messages and an email telling me that it was time to choose a vehicle. I followed the given instructions but when I showed up to pick up the car, they said it wasn't ready. The app is not functional. So we stood in line and waited to get a car. Our reserved hybrid was supposedly recalled, so we were told to pick any car on the lot in category 3. Our signed rental agreement matched $33.49 per day. We called in 3 times to inquire about if we were late returning the car. We were told it cost $16/day. Our contract stated there was a possible charge of $33.49 per extra day. Our car was 7 hours late.
I was expecting a charge of $33.49. Instead they sent an "updated rental agreement" charging us $82.09/day for a total bill of $274.18 - $179.55 more than what it should have been! We never agreed to those terms. When you try to call in about a past rental, there is no option to talk to a live person. (That only worked before and during a rental.) I submitted my inquiry online, but based on everyone else experiences, I am not expecting favorable results. BEWARE!

Careful when renting from this place and be prepared to be disappointed! When I made and PAID for this reservation, weeks in advance, the agreement was for me to pick up a car on a Thursday. On the day of the rental and about thirty minutes before the pick-up time, Thrifty Car Rental sent me text messages and an email telling me that it was time to choose a vehicle. I followed the given instructions but when I showed up to pick up the car, there was NO CAR RESERVED for me. In addition to this, there was no one from Thrifty to assist me to explain what happened. I was told by someone in the car rental garage that there were no cars available for that evening and suggested for me to return the following morning.
As you can imagine, this was not only and inconvenience but it also disrupted my travel plans. It was late at night but I was able to find a ride back home. I also had to modify and cancel other travel arrangement plans. I returned the following morning to the airport and I was fortunate to get a car from Thrifty Car Rental. By the way, the rental was for three days. After returning the car, I received an email to complete a survey based on my rental experience. It was through this survey that I requested for me someone from Thrifty Car Rental to contact me.
Christine from HERTZ/Thrifty Car Rental called me. Because of the inconvenience this experience had caused, she asked me if I wanted a certificate for a future reservation or a credit of $44.00 to go back to my credit card. I told her that I would prefer a credit to go back to my credit card. Sadly, HERTZ/Thrifty Car Rental never issued with this credit. I called them many times to resolve this issue but was unsuccessful. I called my credit card bank to confirm the credit and was told that it never posted.
I also contacted the website where I rented the car and let them know what had happened. They said that after trying to pursue every option in advocacy for my car rental problem, HERTZ/Thrifty would not approve my request for the reason that “the reservation made was confirmed and used”. Yes, I did rent a car, but after the fact that Thrifty did not commit to the “terms and conditions“ at the time the reservation was made and paid for. They also did not follow through and honor the credit they said it was being issued for the inconvenience. Never recommending or using HERTZ/Thrifty again.

The girl at Thrifty/Hertz scanned the car, asked if the tank was full and sent us on our way. An hour later I pull up the online receipt and see I was charged over $55 for filling up the tank. This car was a Nissan Kick which had not cost us more than $25 to fill up from almost empty the whole trip but more the point is the tank was full upon return as I agreed to.
Tried to call customer service and that particular counter directly and both have absolutely no way of speaking to a person but in the pre-recorded messages about gas-related issues it states ‘If you have a question about a gas charge on your receipt and you returned the car on a full tank please upload a gas receipt on the site’. What?? The proof is supposed to be the full tank of gas that was in the car. So now I do not know how to recoup this money or if I even can because I can’t plead my case with a human being. This is my worst car rental experience. By far. When I recently reserved a vehicle with Thrifty, the stated and agreed-upon total was $222.69, a price confirmed as final. Upon arrival at the rental location, the counter agent updated the total to $317.01 for no obvious reason. Despite my many objections and back-and-forth with the agent, I had to accept the price.
After getting into the car and right before I was about to exit the parking lot, another agent at the gate presented another receipt - again, for no obvious reason - with a final charge of $418.93 - almost DOUBLE what I had been initially quoted as a final price. I took the receipt handed to me as the gate agent was exceptionally rude, but I didn't agree to or sign anything. Upon returning the car, I was indeed charged $418.93. After disputing the charge, my claim was denied. I was told I signed the final receipt which I never did. I have tried to contact Thrifty countless times since, but have been unable to reach anyone. They deliberately overcharged me 100% on top of what I agreed to pay, and I had no means of preventing it. This is nothing short of a fraud. The absolute worst rental scamming institution ever.

Regarding Thrifty Rental car. We rented a car through Capital ONE travel for $417. When we arrived to Kona, we went to the counter and they asked for a credit card to hold on file. They gave us something to sign, didn't really think anything of it. We got our car and went on our way. We got a Chevy trailblazer that seats 5. It was just my husband and myself. When we got home we noticed a charge for $317. We thought it strange that Capital ONE would have charged us more than Thrifty. We called Capital ONE to let them know we had been double and wanted to dispute the charge, they looked into it, and as it turns out, it wasn't a double charge at all, it was a charge for an upgrade (that we never got ) or ever asked for, and an extra day.
When they gave us the paper to sign we didn't really look at what we were signing because we had already paid through Capital One, and thought it was just a formality. Silly us! We will NEVER rent from them again ever!! We should have looked at the reviews before renting from them, but thought Capital One would only do business with the best. Take a look at the reviews, 98% of them with very similar incidents. The worst reviews! Why are they allowed to scam people? Will be reporting this to the BBB and possibly taking it to the news, they should not be able to get away with that. BTW. No customer service numbers and you absolutely cannot talk to anyone. We spent countless hours disputing this to no avail. They get you with the so called contract. DO NOT USE THIS CAR SERVICE!!!

Renting with Thrifty was terrible from the minute we got there. First, they put us into a car with a "hold" on it and we had to take it back and get another one - adding an extra 45 minutes to our pickup. Then, when we got home and reviewed our credit card statement - they charged us an additional $173 for insurance and roadside assistance we never requested and/or authorized. After reaching out to them - this is all I got back: "On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better rental experience for our customers in the future." They clearly do this often and I'm sure most people don't even notice. They should be shut down!

I booked a car rental through priceline which was charged to my cc for $130. Upon picking up the car, I went over things with the agent and agreed to a $40 charge for additional driver and a $70 charge for fuel. I declined all insurance offered. I was given a paper to sign and sent on my way. Upon returning the car and reviewing my trip I noted an additional charge to my cc for $457.
I checked the receipt given at the time of pickup and folded inside the paper I signed was another paper listing "agreed to" insurance charges and additional taxes and fees. I then requested a receipt from Thrifty.com and that receipt had similar charges with different amounts. None of the amounts on any receipt equal the $587 I was charged. When attempting to call Thrifty you only get a recording telling you to go to thrifty.com and you will get a response in 3-5 days. Priceline is also unable to help. So I am stuck for 3-5 days with a 3day car rental that has gone from $130 to $587. SCAM.

I rented a luxury car and received a 2018 Lincoln Continental with 56,000 miles on it. I was happy to just get going on vacation so I didn’t look closely at the car but did notice some scratches on the driver's door. Once I got out of the Fll airport and on the road I turned on the radio to quickly notice the speakers in this car were BLOWN. Nothing I did to mitigate the blown speakers worked so listening to the radio was out of the question. The other thing I noticed was how dirty the car looked on the inside, it needed a good cleaning especially the interior glass. After driving for 30 minutes I couldn’t take it and found a car wash to clean it up but it cost me $30. Why does Thrifty rent a nice car like a Lincoln and mistreat it so poorly? Overall not what I hoped for nor what I will settle for again.

A couple months ago I purchased a vacation package (car, flight & hotel) through Priceline. On Thursday, May 24th I received an email from Thrifty saying it was time to check in for my car rental. I completed it & the convertible (I paid a little over $200 extra through Priceline for a convertible instead of an economy car) was reserved for a 1 pm pickup at MCO Airport on Saturday, May 25th. We arrived at the Thrifty check-in around 12:40. I declined the supplemental insurance as I have full coverage.
I could tell someone was wrong at the Thrifty hub inside the airport because the employee kept trying to call outside where the cars were. She called & text them with no response. She told me once I got outside I'd have my choice of any on the row. While I was walking outside I saw she wrote 'NO INVENTORY' on my check-in paper. I handed it to the girl outside & she told me there was a slight problem - there were no convertibles available. They were all rented. She said it was Memorial Day weekend, so if someone wanted to upgrade to a convertible while they were there they would let them (money talks). I told her that was more than a slight problem.
I had paid extra money for a convertible & I checked in 2 days prior. There should have been a convertible there waiting for me to pick up at 1 pm! She said there wasn't anything she could do other than let me choose any hard top on the lot. Not acceptable. Finally, someone returns a convertible. Rather than them putting it in front of the line to be cleaned they made us wait. We woke up at 3 am to get to the airport & my daughters were exhausted.
We got the car over an hour past the original pick-up time & without a full tank of gas. The girl that gave me the keys & paperwork told me since there was an inconvenience getting the car, they would waive the refilling of the gas tank when I brought it back. May 29th I returned the car & told the girl I returned it to that they told me I did have to refill it due to an inconvenience. She told me there were no notes stating that. She was extremely nice. She said she'd help me out, that she sees that happen a lot.
Yesterday I checked my credit card statement and noticed they had charged $368.52 on my credit card! The lady at the desk inside told me they needed a credit card as a security deposit. Nothing was said about charging almost $400 more! I had already paid for the car through Priceline. Do not do business with this company! The employees will lie & rip you off; except for the girl, I returned the car to- she needs to find a better company to work for! She's not like the rest that I dealt with there.

After waiting for an hour for my car to display as "ready", I had to get in line for almost two hours. As a result I was late for a meeting. The personnel at DFW was very rude, uncooperative and unresponsive. They tried to blame me for not reading the rental agreement (which I did) and making it my fault for the predicament I found myself in. After a long trip from the states, upon arrival tired with babies and elderly in the party, the older of the four attendants, approached me from the counter and told me that the reservation was there but I had to pay and additional $550.00 dollar cash. It was insane. Imagine we were tired, exhausted and now this gentleman want more money. I explained that the reservation was set at the national online center and all was set. Thrifty is terrible company to do business with. My debacle started February 17, 2024 and I have been fighting it since. I was charged for Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS) which I denied the coverage and the counter agent told me it was a security deposit and would it be taken off after the rental was completed. I told her again I did not want it but she said she had no choice and that it had to be added. This was just the beginning of my troubles with Thrifty.
Here’s what my family and I had to go through: I was charged for LIS when I denied it. The car I rented was not there. I was given a lame excuse that since the Daytona 500 was going on all the rentals were out. I made that reservation 8 months earlier! My car should have been there. I was given the option of an open bed truck. I refused since my granddaughter had no place to sit and it was pouring rain and our luggage would get soaked. I needed a car seat for my granddaughter and I was told to go to the rack and pick one out. The first car my son went to look at after we refused the truck smelled **. Does the company not pull that from the lot? That car was rented and driven off the lot about a half hour later after we brought that to the attendant’s attention.
I could not drive the car from the premises since I did not have the “Gold Star” on my license as required by Florida law. Another mistake the counter agent made. This delayed us another half hour to forty-five minutes while we went back and cancelled the paperwork in my name and had it put in my son’s name. There are no phone numbers to call for a customer agent and when I finally did get through (I used their emergency number because I got so frustrated), I was told I needed to wait until the charges went through.
After submitting a complaint through their website and corresponding with two “customer service” agents Thrifty still refused to reimburse me the $111.16 for the wrongful charge. To me, Thrifty is not a customer-oriented company. The rental was done through Priceline and I tried to elicit their help but they kept at arm’s length. After finding out my rental was over $120 more that if I did it myself, I understand why Priceline didn’t want to get involved. I’ll never use Thrifty again and probably won’t book through Priceline either!

It wasn't until we started our drive to Moab, that we all noticed every time I was driving over 55 and put the breaks on the whole car would shake, and honestly, I didn't trust the brakes if I had to stop abruptly. Made it to Moab, and we all decided it did not feel like a safe car to drive through 3 National Parks that have some steep inclines. We called Damien at Emergency Services, and were on the phone with him for an hour ten. I knew they would try this on me and the reason I insisted to see the bill as soon as I returned from our short vacation at Winter Park, CO. They kept telling me do not worry you will get an email later. Go figure! It took me over an hour just to get the dang bill and finally to the supervisor and Manager which both could have care less about me or any customer in the place.
I wonder how many nice innocent customer they burn daily? I barely used 40% of the gas up and they even charged me for a full tank!! This actually was the only thing I agreed to, but did not realize that no matter how much gas you use Thrifty will still charge you for a full tank of gas! I mean heck this place has every option covered to totally take advantage of their innocent customers. You know why? Because probably 95% of customers will not take the time to dispute anything or write bad reviews since it is so time consuming to do so. Perfect class action lawsuit right here which I may look into next. Unbelievable.

To start with I told the guy at the rental counter that I was going to Northern VT. I waited 15 minutes at the garage before anyone showed up. By that time there were 5 of us waiting. The guy finally showed up. Said, "You take that one, etc.," to all of us and stop at the gate. I opened the hatch, put in my suitcase and got in the car when I started it noticed that no noise. Then saw a gas pump on the dash which showed half full. Figured it was a hybrid. Headed off to my destination. When I got into NH stopped to get something to eat and then figured I would fill up with gas. That’s when I found out it was electric. When I got to my son's house in Tilton NH called CS. Told them I didn’t want a electric car as I was going to Northern Vt where the closest charging station was in Newport Vt 20 miles from where I was staying in Island Pond Vt. Was advised to go to Manchester NH Airport in the morning and exchange for a gas model.
I drove the 30 miles back to Manchester to be told by a very rude Manager there that they didn’t have any gas models available. He said check Concord or Laconia offices, I asked if he could call them to see as the car only had 50 or so miles left. He said, "No. Look them up and call them yourself." And then told me where the closest charge station was. I tried calling both locations 4 times each. No answer. Finally left them both messages asking for a call back. Never heard from them. So I had to go to charge station and figure out how to charge the car. Luckily there was a nice guy there charging his car and showed me how to do it. After 2 1/2 hrs car was charged and I finally headed to my destination in Vt. The next morning went to Newport Vt to charge the Vehicle, the only quick charge station in the area had no working chargers, had to go to another spot with a low voltage one which was going to take 7 hours to charge.
This is the way it went for the whole 4 days I was there. Couldn’t go far as not sure if I would be able to charge it at all. Ruined my whole vacation. Didn’t get to see relatives, etc. and spent over 12 hours during that time charging or looking for charging stations that worked. On the way back to Boston I stopped in Tilton NH and was able to get the only high speed charger available. When I got to your location to return the car it had 98 miles left on it which was just a few miles less than when I picked it up. Can’t believe you charged me $37.19 to recharge. We have always rented from you but this is the last time ever.
Now 4 months later I get a call from a collection company saying I owe $89.94 for a toll that wasn’t paid. This is the first I have heard of this. They have my phone number, my email address and my home address and I haven’t received anything from them at any of the above. Also I had my own E-Z Pass with me on the dash of the car so if it didn’t pay a toll I don’t know how. This company will screw you every way they can. They are only in it for the money and have no customer service whatever. Go somewhere else. By the way the same company owns Dollar and Hertz also.
