Recently and for the first time and last time I booked a hotel through Hotwire in Costa Rica. Before I proceeded I read carefully what I requested, very simple Two Double Rooms. They said the hotel was in one city I wanted to stay and it was comparable to a Hyatt, Hilton or Sheraton. When I arrive the hotel was not in the City I requested, it was not a Hyatt, Hilton nor Sheraton but rather a mom and pop rundown hotel with NO elevator. The name of the hotel is Hotel Luisiana.

I was not able to stay there because they only offered two single room in the third floor. They would not accommodate us no matter what I said and since the room did not hold the number of travelers and my 84-year-old mom needs an elevator, I decided to call Hotwire from the hotel to no avail, got hung up three times. I had to make last minute reservation at a much much more expensive rate at another Hotel. I’ve called and email Hotwire to no avail, they said it's final and basically it's too bad. They can’t guarantee anything.

I’m a frequent traveler and this has never ever have happened to me before. Shame on Hotwire and the people that run it, but even more shame on the people that allow them to steal our money. Very disappointed. Word of advice: STAY AWAY FROM HOTWIRE, what they hotwire is your money to their account

I used hotwire low price guarantee and booked a 3 star hotel with free breakfast. But they gave me a 2 star one without breakfast. I argued with the customer service and the staff said she can cancel reservation (she find that they made the mistake(. Since we don't have time and internet to re-book, I asked to speak with a manager to transfer the hotel. What pissed me is that the manager LIED and kept saying that I didn't booking the 3 star one with breakfast. I called again and spoke with the first agent I spoke to, told her I got the confirmation snapshot and would like to speak with the manager again. I got no response and found that I was put to on hold!!!! She refused to speak with me by putting me on hold. This is so so so rude!!!!

I recently booked a Hotel via Hotwire, Only to arrive at an unsafe hotel that wasn't in the destination requested. When I explained to Hotwire there was a safety issue and that I am a young single woman traveling alone and I felt my safety was at risk and that I was extremely uncomfortable in this location even getting out of my car, they refused to relocate me or issue a refund for the hotel I NEVER checked into or stayed in. I Even explained the pictures and Ratings of the Hotel were Different from the actual Hotel. I was bullied and shouted at by a Hotwire manager, and told that I was "legally bonded" and that I could be sued if I tried to cancel. I've spoken with Many Hotwire Managers as well as Hotwire Corporate Customer Service Reps who have all informed me they don't care about the safety of the hotel and they will not issue a refund to my account.

Hotwire Reps Pressure you into booking Hotels with them without giving you all of the facts of their services as well as business practices. They Threaten you and refuse to Acknowledge their wrongdoings and Unethical practices even when a customer's safety is at risk. I've exhausted every possible resource before getting to this point. I've allowed ample time for a fair resolution and have been denied all request for a resolution.

It has been my experience that Hotwire takes HUGE liberties with the number of stars they award a property. I've gotten 3-star hotels on Hotwire that were worse than your average Motel 6. Also, Hotwire books with "boutique hotels" fairly frequently. So, you're thinking you're going to get a Hilton Garden Inn or Hyatt Place but you end up with "Ruth-Anne's No-Tell Motel and Chain Saw Repair". They've been good for weekend rental cars, but that's about it.

Not only did I not get a hotel in the same area or star rating I selected, when I tried to email them and call to get it fixed, they blamed me for the mix up. They have terrible customer service and don't hold up their end of the bargain when it comes to selecting a hotel. This whole ordeal has caused me more stress than was necessary. I will not be booking through them ever again. Be careful trying to book a good deal with these guys, you'll pay $750 just to get screwed over.

We rented a care from Hotwire and the rental contract was one way. We pick up in New Orleans (MSY) and return the car in Jackson, MS. (JAN). We paid the amount of the offer through hotwire. A couple days later we received another charge from Alamo rental Car for $200.00, because Hotwire did not put that the car was being returned to another location. So we got stuck with the first fee from Hotwire and a second fee from Alamo. After I called Hotwire and went through the whole process of the car rental agreement and they mistakenly disconnected the line 3 times, their reply was they could not do anything since this transaction already had gone through. So we're stuck paying an additional $200.00. I will never trust or make another reservation from hotwire.

My girlfriend placed a reservation for a rental car through Hotwire with Dollar Rent A Car and received an Itinerary number which is Hotwire's equivalent of a confirmation number. During the reservation process (done online), Hotwire required she give her debit card number and security code in order to make the reservation. She provided the information, received her itinerary number and was promptly hit with the rental fee plus an additional charge for damage insurance totaling approximately $85.00. I then took her to the Dollar Rent A Car depot to pick up her vehicle she had already paid for through Hotwire.

For reasons not clearly explained, Dollar Rent A Car would not honor the reservation supposedly made by Hotwire even though she had confirmation of a reservation and a printed receipt showing payment. Since the payment had not been made to Dollar Rent A Car directly, there was little issue she could take up with Dollar. She then had to make an entirely new reservation and submit payment directly to Dollar Rent A Car in order to secure a vehicle. She has since contacted Hotwire customer service (once in writing with copies of receipts and at least a half dozen times by phone) requesting that her ~ $85.00 she paid be refunded since their reservation proved to be worthless and no service had been provided, but all she gets is the familiar "Sorry you had a bad experience" run around or insane hold times... and never a satisfactory answer.

I've seen other complaints where this company has missed making reservations at hotels and what not which seems to be the normal result when dealing with this sub-standard organization, but in her case, they removed funds from her account for services that were not given and THIS equals nothing short of outright theft. She provided her information and their ability to access these funds in good faith that their end of the transaction would be upheld. It was not... and they have no right to retain the fee she paid them.

BE WARNED PEOPLE!!!! Do NOT give this company a chance to complicate your business trip, ruin your holiday/vacation, or flat out STEAL your hard earned money as we have found they routinely do without conscience. If booking a trip, reserving a hotel, reserving a rental car, or shopping any other similar type service from a discount web broker... let Captain Kirk or any other trustworthy web broker compete for your business, but save yourself certain misery and avoid HOTWIRE like the plague!

I went through Kayak.com, who correctly made my airline reservations through Frontier Airlines. I was going home to Wyoming to my nephew's wedding. When I arrived in Denver and went to pick up my car that they had booked through Hotwire who booked my car through Hertz, I found that Hotwire had screwed up the dates and booked my car for November instead of September. I am a disabled person, they made NO attempt to correct their mistake and I ended up having to sleep on the floor in Denver airport. I had to take a shuttle to Cheyenne the next day and Avis was able to provide me a car so that I could barely make it on time to the rehearsal.

I called and spoke to them and they put it "under review". I received a call from Hotwire today and they advised me that there was nothing they could do, they could not cancel the future reservation that I do not need, and they could not only refund my money, but they were not willing to do ANYTHING to even give me a credit or anything for when I would need a rental car. Earlier in the month, I received emails with two different reservation numbers for the same date. I cancelled one. Later in the month I received a confirmation number for Alamo (see image), and assumed everything was OK. When I got to the Alamo desk, the agent said my reservation was cancelled. Fine, I gave him the one in the image. He claimed to know nothing about that number. He had me call Hotwire, who forwarded me back to Alamo's call center, who offered to book me a car at Enterprise at three times the original price.

I went to book a 3.5 star on Hotwire. I've used it MANY times before and it worked out just fine for the most part. If you know how the Hotwire payment is set up, nobody could make the mistake I was accused of making. I reviewed my order, 3.5 star, 250$ Niagara falls. On the same screen that you review the order you can input payment info while viewing the total and your trip summary. All was fine, I inputted my credit card info, make sure the itinerary and price was right and pressed BOOK. The next page in the confirmation, stating what hotel you got, the stars and the total price. It ends up being 4 star and 350$, 100$ more than I was quoted and a different star class. I knew it was a computer error so I called Hotwire Customer service thinking they could adjust it no problem. BOY OH BOY was I wrong.

First man, Tim I spoke to was very rude. Repeated and argued with me 10 times saying that the website is designed to be error free (come on realistically no form of technology is error free). I asked numerous times to speak to a supervisor and he kept arguing that they cant do anything their system is never wrong etc. I had to insist with a firm voice. Finally he agreed to transfer me, instead he hung up. So I called back, to speak to a supervisor. Who might I add was even more rude and useless than the first guy. They insisted I needed a print screen as proof of the error as they never heard of this happening before. Obviously as everyone knows you cannot go back into a screen that had confidential payment info on it, so unrealistic.

He continued to argue, repeating the same things Tim did. I asked to speak with someone else. He stated he was the only supervisor, which I later found to be a lie. I called back, the next lady repeated the same info. Basically they all said I was lying and that their website is perfect and error free and there was no possible way this mistake could have been made. I really just wanted a 3.5 star and an adjustment in the price, but nobody helped at all. They actually fully argued. I sent a private msg to the facebook page, no response. I emailed their customer service review centre. They literally just said "we are sorry you had a bad experience, we hope to make your future experiences better". WOW that was helpful! What a cheap company, not one person offered a price adjustment to a very unhappy customer.

I am writing here so everyone knows that if you ever have any issues after you book do not expect Hotwire to budge. They are rude and arrogant, poor customer service skills. They do not care about having committed customer service which overall means they do not care about customer retention. SO they will not help you EVER!. I am still waiting in the hopes that someone from Hotwire will attempt to help me with my scenario and maybe allow me to think they are okay after all. In the meantime, I am telling EVERYONE never to book with Hotwire.

Wait till you book a car or worse a hotel. Your plane lands... you run down the tarmac, excited to start your vacation and you Learn that Not Only Did a) Hotwire completely Drop the Ball on your booking... but b) they don't take any accountability... and other than some people in a Call Center Oregon... who say, "I'm really sorry to hear about your negative experience," you're going to get nothing... And c) You got to sit on HOLD for 40 minutes to get that Call Center to take you call... And then the best part... cause no doubt you toss a couple back while you're on hold for 45 minutes... you may slip and let some profanity slip out when they finally take your call... and tell you, "They can't do anything." But the best part is when the Call Center People tell you "Maintain your Professionalism"... after their company just ** YOU out of a booking and your Entire Vacation.

I used to be a diehard Hotwire fan, booking every business trip through their service. Today changed everything, when they not only wouldn't honor my hotel booking, but made me endure an atrocious customer service experience. Did you know that Hotwire can call you at 1:49 PM on the day of your reservation and say the hotel you booked is full and you're out of luck?

Earlier this week I booked two rooms in Vancouver BC at a 4-star hotel. The hotel I selected was in the Burnaby area, close to where I had a customer meeting the following day. At 1:49 PM, shortly before I was due to check into the hotel, I received a voice mail from Hotwire Customer Service, informing me that the hotel I had reserved and paid for in advance no longer had a room. He said that I needed to contact Hotwire if I wanted to book an alternate hotel or get a refund. Did you know that Hotwire's Customer Service processes are cumbersome, time consuming and ineffective?

When I reached an agent, she said that they could see if another hotel might be available. The first alternate hotel she found cost more money, and she said Hotwire would cover the cost difference. However, she said that she had to do something with Hotwire HotDollars, and could I please be put on hold. Ten minutes later (I kid you not, because my cell phone indicates the duration of the call) she finally came back and asked for my credit card information. I asked her why she needed it, since I had already paid for two rooms. She insisted that she needed to charge my card again, so I gave her the information. Then, when she went to book the rooms, they weren't available.

So we started again, and she found two rooms at the Westin Bayshore at standard pricing, and again said that Hotwire would cover the difference. She said that she would have to put me on hold again to take care of the HotDollars needed. Five minutes later she came back, got my credit card information again, and GUESS WHAT? The rooms at the Westin were no longer available.

She then said that nothing else was available. I insisted that there must be something available further out, so she eventually found a 3.5 star hotel in Surrey. By now, I had been on the call 35 minutes, and I desperately needed to call my colleague so that he didn't show up at the original hotel looking for a room that didn't exist. I asked the agent to quickly conclude the call, and I told her that I was very upset about the customer service exhibited by Hotwire. She offered to deposit 50 HotDollars in my account, and I told her that I didn't even care about the HotDollars, as I needed to get off the phone and call my colleague.

Sadly, the Customer Service Supervisor wasn't much better. Later, I called Hotwire Customer Service back. I requested a Supervisor and explained my experience. I posed questions such as: Why was a booked reservation paid for in advance not valid only hours before check-in? Why didn't Hotwire secure other rooms in Vancouver before calling me, instead of putting me through 35 minutes of torture and 2 thwarted attempts to book another hotel. Maybe a process that requires 10 minutes to get HotDollars approved isn't good when hotel rooms are scarce and rooms disappear in that time frame. Why did I need to keep giving the agent my credit card number? Why was I paying the same for a 3.5 star hotel as I originally paid for a 4-star hotel that was 3 times farther away from my business meeting location?

The net result was that the Supervisor offered me a whopping 25 HotDollars for my trouble. What an insult! That's less than a dollar a minute for the first call to Hotwire, much less the time and trouble I took to bring this to his attention. My lasting impression is that Hotwire doesn't want to examine customer service issues, or improve processes. All they want to do is try to buy off dissatisfied customers with a dollar amount that is insulting. It's especially interesting in comparison to the $818.90 in HotDollars they would have spent when the agent thought when comparable hotels were available for booking.

I also tried emailing with Hotwire Customer Service, and the responses I got were boilerplate and impersonal. Each email said over-bookings do occur in the hotel industry and are not unique to Hotwire customers. They also said they looked forward to serving me in the future, which clearly shows that they don't think their service was that bad. I'm still shaking my head. All of this is especially crushing when I have been a loyal customer and vocal advocate of Hotwire with friends and on social media. I don't ever plan to use Hotwire again.

Hotwire takes pride in having the lowest rates and if I can find a cheaper deal within 48 hours they will return the difference. So right after booking the secret hotel, with 100% customer satisfaction (!) we found a site that a) had a cheaper rate b) that included breakfast (there is 4 of us so we will have to add an extra 100 dollar on the price) and c) had really bad reviews out of 4500 reviews (on Trivago).

So I e-mailed my complaint and also print screen of the price. I received an e-mail that I had to call in which I did. They refused to refund - they could not find cheaper rates. I still could but it did not matter. I asked if they had a look at my print screen and I was asked to fax it in. When I asked why e-mail would not do she said she had no e-mail address only fax number... (???) I don't have a fax (who does?) so I tried the support e-mail address again. Again, they did not comment on the print screen, the breakfast or the bad rates, only sent a standard e-mail that I no right to get a re-fund. I asked again if they could comment on my print screen. I have after received 2 more standard replies so I wrote this review. I hope it counts for something.

I booked a vacation package that included airfare, hotel, and rental car. My flight and rental car were just as expected, but our hotel portion was a huge disappointment. We booked a 3-bedroom townhouse for 8 nights at the Regal Palm Resort and Spa in Davenport, FL. The resort was rated 3 1/2 stars and the pictures looked clean, chic, and had a great swimming area for the kids, but when we checked in, things were completely different. The first unit that we were given was so gross. The carpet was filthy. The blinds were messed up. The ceiling fans had so much dust build up. Everything was outdated, and the lamp shades were even crooked. There was no way I was letting my 7 month old crawl around here. This was by far, the worst hotel condition that we've ever encountered, so we asked for a another unit.

The 2nd unit was just as bad. The carpet wasn't as bad, but there was plenty to make up for it. All of the dressers had broken drawers in each room. It was very dusty and the worst part was when I found 2 large stains in the center of one of the comforters. They ended up being dry, but I found that to be utterly disgusting. I immediately went to the front desk, told the clerk we couldn't stay because of the conditions, and requested a refund for our cleaning and daily resort fees equaling about $179. She gave me a refund, but said I'd have to call reservations the next day about my full refund for the length of my stay, which is nearly $700.

I called Hotwire as soon as we left the resort around 1 am and explained the situation. The agent took notes and said they would call the hotel and request a refund between the hotel reservation hours of 8 am and 8 pm. The next day I waited for a phone call, but received none so I called again and explained the situation AGAIN. The 2nd agent have me the same lines, "We'll call between 8am and 8pm." Long story short, I called Hotwire in total 5 or 6 times (once per day), spoke to 2 supervisors, and called and left my name and number for the hotel supervisor. I got no response. Hotwire never called. The hotel supervisor never called.

Today I received an email stating that the hotel would not give me a full refund with no explanation why. I am so frustrated and infuriated. I wasted hours on the phone during my vacation to resolve this issue just to get no resolution. Hotwire's customer service is terrible. There are no actions in their words. At one point 1 of the supervisors had said that my case had not been handled yet because it wasn't my turn in the queue yet. Unreal!! I felt like I was having the same conversation over and over. I believe I am entitled to a full refund. We did not stay at the hotel for reasons out of our control. The resort charges a cleaning fee and daily resort fee in addition to the daily rate, but for what? The units were disgusting. I would not recommend Hotwire at all, nor would I ever book with them again. Terrible customer service!!

The ceiling fan didn't work in main bedroom. It had roaches and spiders. The air didn't work. I complained and got no response. I will use Hotwire.com again and will demand my money back.

I booked and paid for a 3.5-star hotel in OKC. I am a frequent user of Hotwire and am aware of the star ratings and how to get decent hotels. I called the hotel I was booked to advise them I would be arriving after midnight due to a delayed flight. They informed me the water was out and they had no A/C. I called Hotwire to tell them about the issues and request a different hotel. I was told the A/C is considered an amenity (in OKC in August with over 100 degree weather). Thankfully (?) the water was out too and I could get a refund and rebook. I told the Hotwire agent I would be arriving after midnight and I was boarding my airplane so I had to hurry to get off the phone. So I rebooked with the La Quinta on the opposite side of town for $25 more and the agent told me there would not be a problem with my arrival time. HA... I get to the La Quinta at 2 am and my prepaid hotel reservation is canceled. Too bad. Called Hotwire back again who refunded my money again (or they will in a couple days so they are currently holding $560 for my original 2 reservations plus the new one). But they could not book me in a room for right now. What happened to the room I had paid for??? I paid double for a room tonight with the La Quinta clerk who could not honor the rate.

Is not even in the area you ask for - is just nearby. SO IS JUST A LIE AFTER A LIE!!!! I called. They didn't change my reservation, neither give me a credit and is not the first time it has happened to me but they won't get me again.

I was planning a trip to Portland ME and was looking for decent deals for hotels. Typically I use Priceline and have always had my expectations exceeded. I notice a few deals on Hotwire that seemed decent in the area I was looking to stay and decided to give them a try. BIG MISTAKE. Hotwire leads you to believe, through their examples of star rated hotels (3 star = Doubletree, Sheraton, Hilton, Wyndham....etc). That you will be getting a high quality hotel. I submitted for the "secret deal" for the 3 star hotel and found out the secret....You are given a 1-2 star hotel at best. Instead of any of the numerous examples that Hotwire gives as their examples of 3 star hotels, we were booked at a Howard Johnson's.

The hotel had small rooms that had a closet added on that half blocked the light switch. Metal plates were added onto the doors for locks with the philips head part of the screw that held the plates on facing out into the hallway. The "bedspreads" were two flat sheets with a dollar store blanket in between. The sink was outside the bathroom right next to the door where you come in. The AC unit was old and rickety making lots of noise. The hotel itself had one small....3/4 person elevator if you didn't have luggage, 2 if you did. So we were left to take the stairs up three flights for the most part. The hotel was located right across from a strip club and the area was sketchy. It was a far cry from any hotel that Hotwire led you to believe you would be getting. I sent an email to hotwire explaining my frustrations and in turn they felt that explaining to me why they thought the Howard Johnson was a three star hotel. That was their answer.

They requested in the email that I call to discuss options. So I spent some of my vacation time on the phone and in return I was able to hear someone tell me over the phone why this hotel was considered a three star hotel by Hotwire. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of the hotel. It is only based on the fact that Hotwire says so and that's what you get. They are unethical and misleading in their business practices and are unwilling to compensate when they are found to be wrong. I will not deal with Hotwire again and encourage others to use Priceline instead.

I booked a four-star hotel for 4 guests in Prague for three nights. The hotel has D excellent ratings and we were thrilled. After paying, I was informed the hotel name and began my typical pre-arrival due diligence. The hotel looked awesome. Single double and triple rooms were consistent with four stars in my opinion. However, I soon discovered that this hotel only has quad rooms with bunk beds. Very hostel looking as I also found out the hotel is also a hostel. I was stunned to find out that we paid for a four-star room where we would need to climb a ladder to go to bed a night. Never would I climb a ladder to bed in a four star hotel. When I called to complain, Hotwire recited a script over and over, never giving me any reasonable resolution. After several calls and over two hours, Hotwire admitted that this was a little unusual and they would try to work something out with the hotel. The solution was to pay an additional 75 euros for two double rooms instead of the quad. I respect that the hotel is a four star facility, but in no way, shape or form are bunk beds part of a four-star accommodation. Hotwire should never have accepted dramatically inferior quad inventory for an otherwise good hotel facility. I should never have to climb a ladder to a bunk bed in a four-star hotel and having to pay 75 euros additional is not acceptable resolution.

I booked a room through Hotwire last minute and received a booking at the DoubleTree in Bedford, MA. I was beyond satisfied with the value for the booking. The next night though, I received an email saying that the DoubleTree was overbooked and would be moving me across the street to the Homewood Suites. The next morning, I received an email confirming my booking at the DoubleTree and in the sidebar of the email, there was a confirmation number for the hotel and a note that I would not need to reconfirm with Hotwire or the hotel.

Ignoring the note, I called Hotwire to confirm which hotel I was staying at, and they told me that I was to be at the Homewood Suites. I called the Homewood Suites to confirm my room and they told me that I did in fact have a room... I even had TWO rooms. One room was in my name, the other had a man's name, whom I had never heard of, attached. I called Hotwire back after this phone call to confirm that I had only booked one room and to see why there were two and one with a stranger's name attached. I was given no answers, but the customer service rep put me on hold to call the DoubleTree and confirm that I WAS moved to the Homewood Suites. After hanging up with her, I called the DoubleTree myself to check and they had NO record of my original booking let alone that I was being transferred to the Homewood Suites. I called the Homewood Suites back with this information and they reassured me that they would work it out and I would have my room.

When I showed up at the Homewood Suites, nothing had been clarified and to push the issue even further, my reservation was not showing up as a prepaid reservation, although my bank account had already been debited. The assistant manager called DoubleTree, again confirming that they had no idea who I was, and then had me call Hotwire. While I was on hold, Hotwire called the hotel and spoke with the assistant manager, telling him that the reservations were actually done through ANOTHER party in Florida who had the money and would need to transfer it. After they hung up, he told me that she was calling the third party involved. When the customer service rep got back on the phone with me, she told me that she apologized for the hold up, but she was still on hold with the Homewood Suites. I said, "No, you're not. I'm sitting right here with the man you were just speaking to." She stuttered and said that she was actually on the telephone with the 3rd party.

Once it was all ironed out, I could not BELIEVE how shady Hotwire is. Basically what happened was that they turned my reservation over to this 3rd party who tried to book me at the DoubleTree. When the DoubleTree wasn't available, the 3rd party, NOT the DoubleTree, booked me at Homewood Suites. The confirmation number I was given for the DoubleTree wasn't even a confirmation number that is associated with that chain of hotels. UNREAL!

The same thing happened to the other gentleman's reservation, who I found out showed up at the DoubleTree, who thankfully knew about the situation since we had called them several times. I will never book with Hotwire again. Even if the price is a deal, I'd rather suck up the extra cost and NOT deal with this craziness ever again.

My credit card statement said "Expedia Affiliates". I called Hotwire because I was certain I booked through them, they told me it's through Expedia. I called Expedia and they figured out my reservation was through Hotwire so back to Hotwire...1 hour of my life BURNED....

Attempted calls 1, 2 and 3. Keep in mind, Hotwire Flights and Hotwire Vacations are two different customer service numbers so if you call the wrong one, then you have to go through a chain of 2-3 people to get to the right person. You have to go through same mundane prompts with each one (name, phone #, itinerary, etc.) and be put on hold.

I was able to get "flight credit" for Virgin flights (positive) however the service representative who helped me said there were no Virgin flights available and said I could only apply my credit to Virgin flights and said my flight credit is with Virgin. Ok...Found the flights I wanted and called Virgin: After a lot of confusion and going through their own call tree, they told me I have to book through Hotwire. Ok back to Hotwire...

Call #3: Hotwire. I go through Hotwire Flights to get to Hotwire Vacations (2-3 different customer service reps and hold periods). I finally got someone to connect me with their "Help Desk" to apply my flight credit and they disconnected me. SO AGGRAVATING! Now I've been on this call again for 30 additional minutes and the guy at "Help Desk" is saying I can't apply my credit because the original flights were booked under some other rate/deal that is different than the flights I want.

"How can I figured out which flights I qualify for then?" He said "you can't". I'm on hold now and I have no idea what he's doing but I think he's trying to figure it out....THIS IS INSANE!!!! DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS!!!!!! If you do, double, triple, quadruple check you booked the right dates. Or make sure there is little to no risk that your flight dates will change. I have used Priceline successfully many times and have stayed at some very nice hotels for some really great prices. I am currently staying in my first and last Hotwire room. It was advertised as a 2 and a half star hotel; in reality, it is an old-style motel with exterior doors on every room, which means that unless you are willing to expose yourself and your belongings to every person who walks by, you will be staying in a cave with artificial light.

The room itself, while clean and updated, is about 100 square feet smaller than a "standard" room in the same hotel; this block of smaller rooms, located at the top of the stairs (there is no elevator), is no doubt reserved for Hotwire guests. The worst thing about it all is that I didn't save a single dime by booking through Hotwire. I could have booked a standard (i.e. larger) room in this same hotel for the same price I paid through Hotwire by booking directly on the hotel's website using an AARP discount. At least then I would have known what to expect and I could have earned loyalty points with the hotel chain.

I did one of those "book a 3-star hotel for this low price and we will reveal the hotel at the end" deals. Well of course we got the crappiest hotel in the 3-star categories. Honestly, I don't know how this hotel is 3 stars. I know this because unfortunately my family and I stayed there once before and said we would not stay there again.

After it revealed our hotel, I called Hotwire to tell them that we had a bad experience at that hotel in the past and asked them if we could get any of the other hotels listed as "possible" options. They told me that none of the other hotels listed are options at this time. I asked them if there was anything else that can be done and they said no. I then asked why you list all these hotels as "possibilities" but none are options and he told me, "Like it says on our website, these hotels are just examples." I said, "So you guys are trying to con people into this deal by showing them all these great hotel options, but really none of them are really even an option", and he pretty much said yes.

I am so sick by Hotwire's misleading information to get your money. In the end, they were not willing to help me at all and so now we are stuck with a hotel that has mold, drunken homeless people walking around outside, parking spaces so small that your car leaves with dings it never had when you got there, and stained carpet that you are afraid to walk on without shoes. I will never, ever use Hotwire again because of their lack of customer service and misleading information.

The Priceline hotels were great hotels and great rates. The Hotwire Hotels were inferior to the majority of hotels with the same star rating. Also the Microtel we stayed at is not comparable to other 21/2 star hotels, and the discount was only a couple of dollars below a standard rate. The biggest beef was a three star with Hotwire. We searched for a hotel, suspended our search for about 30 mins, then completed the reservation. We paid $75. 21 mins after our confirmation came through we received an email offering us a $53 rate if we would complete our booking. We paid 40% more for the same reservation. Hotwire refused to adjust the rate. I will not give Hotwire another opportunity to fall short of expectations. I went down to the front desk and complained and was told that there were no other rooms available and that because it was done through a 3rd party there was nothing I could do. I didn't call Hotwire because of their conditions and would contact them when I got back to FL. They denied all responsibility and told me that I should have called them. I went online and discovered how many complaints there were against Hotwire who had offered me $25 for compensation. I told them what to do with their offer.

I added my complaint to the long list of complaints and contacted BBB which ended in their closing the case. BBB should be ashamed of themselves for being paid off by Hotwire because there could be no other explanation. They should be given a "F" rating, not an "A+" if they took the time to read the complaints. Hotwire doesn't lose. Customers like myself lose. I find this promotional practice tricky and misleading. It needs to be changed. Hotwire should only be able to send promotions for the dates of the follow my trip feature. I sent e-mails with formal complaints to Hotwire with no responses so far.

We didn't realize that the booking was not able to be revised. Reason for our trip was to visit a sick family member. The individual got sicker and we needed to revise the timing of our trip. We called Hotwire and Hertz, the rental company involved, to simply add a few days of car rental to the rental we already had and neither company offered any options. We booked Hertz for the extra days and then tried to arrange to not have to return the car mid trip. Answer, only if we paid an extra $180!. I already paid for the extra three days and this was in addition to that. No one helped, no one was sympathetic. My wife drove 100 miles back to the airport to change the car mid trip. For an identical car. I called three times to ask about revising the booking and each time I was cut off when the agent said they couldn't help and i asked to be put through to their supervisor! Wow! So.... I will not ever book with Hotwire or Hertz. I talked to too many people at both companies who had no interest in client service or making this right. One person suggested I send in the death certificate, this before the actual death! At that point, I determined both companies had lost a client forever. So, not a happy customer, to say the least.

The insurance I purchased was basically useless because it would only cover a medical emergency. If I had known this, I would have never purchased it to begin with. Then, Hotwire tells me I have to pay a $200 fee per ticket plus the upcharge of the flight per ticket which ended up being more than double what I intended to pay. I feel this information should have been clearer on their website. It was a true rip off!! I will never use them again!

I purchased a "hotdeal" for a 2-1/2 star hotel in Manhattan on Friday 5/2/14 for $225. "Hotdeal" means you purchase a hotel based on a star rating and a location without knowing which hotel you will be staying at. Upon purchase, they awarded me Astor on the Park. This hotel was barely a 1-star hotel. The carpet was damp and dirty, the smell was unbearable, and it was the most disgusting hotel room I have ever stayed in. On top of that, I asked others staying at the hotel and they told me they paid $70-100 less for their hotel. I wrote them an e-mail complaining but they told me I had to call customer service. I called on Monday to complain but all they would offer me is a $25.00 coupon. They said I had called too late after the hotel stay.

I know it's my responsibility but while trying to look for a room and check with them about rooms and was putting info in, while doing so my phone rang and UPS was at my door. The 5-year-old child I am babysitting hit the confirm button. It then charged me for a 3-star room. Having been to where they sent me, I know it's not 3 stars. I called Hotwire and they won't do anything about it. FYI it's cheaper to cancel my card and order a new one than dealing with Hotwire.

Also, the additional $33 of fees on my booking were all Hotwire which consisted of a booking fee and a fee they had to pay to the hotel (as explained to me by their customer service). This is after the hotel already warned me that I could expect to encounter noise during my stay. William, the supervisor at Hotwire, was uncompromising on this. Buyer beware that when you book with Hotwire you have no idea what you're getting until you've actually used the services that you're paying for.

The service you've paid for may give you advance warning only after calling them but don't expect Hotwire to give you this info and don't expect Hotwire to accommodate you in a satisfactory way if you are unsatisfied. What they should have done is issued a refund and let me choose another hotel. They insisted they only guarantee a "comfortable" and clean room. Btw, I had the same issue 9 months earlier when booking a car for Johannesburg, South Africa, where they didn't even have that type of car - an Audi A3 on picture at Hotwire - in their fleet!!

Back home from Atlanta, I now get an additional invoice from Hertz for $ 216.26 (so 139% ON TOP OF Hotwire rate!!) for additional charges (of which the GPS was only $ 36, the rest - mandatory - insurance fees)! This has definitely been the last time I booked via Hotwire.... They were good a few years back, but based on the above 2 examples, they are now engaging in fraudulent activities! I am still arguing with Hotwire over them booking my room for the wrong month even though they admit I gave them the correct date and month I wanted to the person I talked with to set it up. They put in the wrong month and then talked very quickly at the end of the conversation to confirm the information and since they were talking quickly and with an accent I only understood the dates were correct and did not catch that the month was wrong. They want me to pay for THEIR mistake in putting it in wrong in the first place. I was even willing for us to split the cost of the error since I feel it was both our faults instead of them wanting me to pay for the full bill and it was due to an error on their part that started the situation.

They say they have reviewed our conversation tape and agree I said the correct dates and month I wanted in the beginning of the conversation but since the operator put it in wrong and I did not catch it during the speed reading review she did at the end, it is my fault and I am the only one that has to pay for the mistake. I thought asking for us to each split the cost was reasonable since we BOTH made the mistake, her putting it in wrong and me not catching it at the end, but they will not meet me half way. They are taking the attitude any mistake that comes up is your fault and yours alone. I highly recommend never using them.

I will be glad to provide you information that may clarify on this matter. At Hotwire, we strive for clarity on our site. That is why during the booking process, we ask our customers to read and accept our Terms of Use before your reservation is confirmed. This gives you the ability to choose the trip that best meets your needs. In order to secure our low rates, our agreement with our car rental agency partners is that reservations will be used as booked. For this reason, reservations cannot be cancelled, changed, transferred or refunded. Also, credit will not be given for unused reservations. You can find our full Terms of Use by visiting Hotwire.com."

Here's what I sent to Agnes: "You're not telling me anything that I did not already know... Did you not read my mailing? I had just made the reservation (w/ full intent to return to PIT the following week, to pick-up the car and then use it for 3 weeks); HOWEVER, MY EMPLOYER called me shortly after I had made my reservation, and he stated that he had an 'emergency situation' that I needed to attend to (in Texas); therefore, I could not simply going back to PIT the following week...

I knew that it would take about one week to resolve the situation and that I (w/ full intent) would be obtaining the car (but, in this case, just one week later than I had originally planned)... A very unusual situation - WHICH CONTAINED CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL - but one that could have been easily addressed if Hotwire had just simply been a little more flexible w/ their "policy"...

Alamo tried to do what they could, HOWEVER, their policy is to not hold a car for more than 24 hours after the reservation pickup date... I told them just to sit the car aside for a week and I would only use it for 2 weeks rather than 3 (which I paid for)... They refused to do that.. They (like Hotwire) would not move away from their 'empty-headed policy'....

In the end, Hotwire received my $640 and Alamo may have received part of that $640... Me? I received NOTHING for my $640... NOTHING AT ALL... Your current policy amounts to nothing but theft in my opinion and definitely the receiving of money for services not rendered... Please be advised that while I've attempted to handle this issue in a straight-forward and professional manner, it appears Hotwire is going to stick to their brainless and totally inflexible policy (no matter what)... Therefore, you leave me little recourse... I am contacting my lawyer this afternoon and I believe I'll be seeing you (Hotwire's representatives) in court...

Florida does not look kindly on businesses that take money for services not rendered and instead 'hide behind 'policy'... You will be paying me much more than the $640, I can assure you (and much more in court costs)... In the meantime, I intend to tell my business contacts about this situation w/ Hotwire and I also intend to share this situation w/ my contacts in "LinkedIn"... I also intend to let my local news outlets know about 'Hotwire's Services' as well... They have a consumer advocacy group and reporter... Hotwire will not 'look good' after all of this, I can assure you..

By the way, Agnes; your 'member services group' is, what Mr. Clark Howard says it is... It is not providing any service at all... It's member 'non-service'... You apparently exist just to cover Hotwire's butts w/ the full intent of NOT providing any real service to your customers... I honestly don't know how you can all look at yourselves in the mirror each morning, knowing full well what you'll be doing 'to your 'customers' that day... 'Covering Hotwire's butts' just doesn't seem to be that fulfilling of a job to me... It really doesn't..."

On March 1st, 2014, I made a reservation for 7/5/14 with Hotwire.com for a 4 star hotel in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. I got a rate of $182, however there was a note in the order that an additional $20 resort fee would have to be paid when I get there on 7/5/14. I agreed to that fee and then proceeded to the end of the order only to find a category entitled "Tax recovery charges and fees". There was a $54.88 additional fee that I was not expecting for taxes and fees. I understand we have to pay tax, but that is 30%! Against my better judgement, I went ahead and booked anyway. I ended up getting The Marriott at Sawgrass.

The next day that extra fee was bothering me, so I called Marriott. I asked for a price for the same type of room on the same night (July 5th) and they told me the price was $199. They said there would be an additional $22 resort fee and that hotel taxes were exactly 10%. The grand total would be $243.10 for booking with the Marriott directly. Since this was less than the price I will end up paying and Hotwire guarantees the lowest price, I called Hotwire.com. I spoke with a woman named Kendra. She informed me that she was not able to tell me exactly what the $54.88 was for! I was outraged!

How can you charge a fee and not disclose what it covers!? I know the hotel taxes are only 10% and the service fee was not included because I still have to pay that. By the time it is all said and done, I will end up paying $13.78 more than if I would have booked with the hotel directly. Since the hotel taxes are only 10%, I should have only had to pay $200.20 plus the resort fee. What is the additional $33.78 for Hotwire??? Why do you charge your customers fees that they are not allowed to get additional information about? I recommend avoiding using Hotwire.com because there are hidden fees and they WILL NOT negotiate or even itemize them to help you understand what you are paying for.

Unfortunately, Hotwire does not go to the trouble of checking with Hertz in Mexico (according to the Hertz representative, my case was not at all uncommon) to make sure that cars are available. Indeed, on a Saturday evening in high season, I arrived at the Hertz counter with a confirmed reservation, but there was simply no car to be had. After several attempts to break through Hotwire's unresponsive Customer Service line, I was able to explain my situation, only to be offered a rental with another agency at over twice the rate!

I read the pick up information about Alamo on the screen which stated that they do NOT accept debit cards for deposit or payment unless you are travelling round trip at the airline. I immediately notified Hotwire that Alamo would not accept our debit card. Hotwire refused to reply, and still will not respond. We have filed a complaint at our bank, and have been notified by our bank that they deal with a lot of Hotwire issues as they scam people, and it could take 60 to 90 days to recoup our money as is typical of Hotwire. Hotwire knowingly accepted our debit card for payment knowing that the rental car company would not accept same card for deposit or payment. Now, they refuse to exchange the rental to another company or to refund our money.

I asked to contact with the HotWire Manager to process complaint but she mentioned that Manager does not talk to the customers. She did not want to provide me the HotWire company location and contact information. I heard that I can only complain when I will arrive to the hotel. She mentioned that she can spend hours with me on the phone without any resolution. I did not want to cancel the reservation, I asked to switch the hotel and pay additional fees if required.

I just booked a hotel in FL for three nights. There were only four hotels at this exit, so I checked rates, then booked three nights with Hotwire for $60/night, which I thought was a good deal. Then I discovered that the "low, low rate" of $60 was actually the STANDARD rate for this hotel. Add to that, that of the four hotels, this was, by far, the most run-down, filthiest mess. But even the poor woman at the desk apologized, saying that Hotwire charges them 40% (!) and that they are REQUIRED to use them.

I tried to resolve this with Hotwire, but they acted like robots, spouting, "All reservations are final." Really? In my world, there is always room for black and white, and as far as customer service, in my world, the customer has rights. The bottom line? FALSE ADVERTISING. I am actually paying more for this room than I would have been willing to (actually, NO price would have been attractive). I have used Hotwire in the past with success, but this is the final time. Their "customer service" is abysmal, even downright shameful. Save yourself a headache. Know what hotel you are booking!

I was told by the reception and afterward by HOTWIRE they can only guarantee a room. You find these little gotchas out only after reservation has been confirmed (in other words they gotcha you money). I find it much better and more comforting to use some of the other sites that gives all information upfront. I booked a "hot rate" room on Hotwire quoted at a total $209 (including all taxes and fees). Then, the confirmation page and subsequent confirmation email indicated a total cost of $270, apparently charging me the standard rate instead of the discounted "hot rate". Knowing I was booking blind on the "hot rate", I was toggling browser tabs between the "hot rate" screen and the standard rate screen to try to get a sense for which hotel I may be booking. Perhaps this is why the Hotwire system messed up and charged me the higher $270 rate.

That said I know for certain that I booked it on the "hot rate" screen which asked me for final confirmation of the $209 charge. (I never was on the standard rate booking page). I spent about an hour on the phone with the Hotwire customer care people who were decidedly unhelpful and dismissive, repeating the same "all bookings are final and we're unable to give refunds" line over and over and unwilling to acknowledge their system error or to examine even the possibility of the error on their side. If anyone knows whom I can contact to report this, to get a proper response, and to get back my over-charged $60, please let me know.

I order a hotel in NYC for November 4th through November 11th, 2013. Three hours after we had a check-in to the hotel, I received a phone call from a Fraud Department. The person calling did NOT introduce himself, nor did he state what company he was calling from. He mispronounced the name on the order and questioned if I know that person (who turns out is my friend after we figured out the name). Considering I tried several other websites to book a hotel for these dates, I thought he was calling from Priceline and someone tried to commit fraud with our credit card. This person yelled at me saying he is not calling from Priceline, refusing to tell me where he is calling from and accusing me of lying. All confused, I kept trying to clear up what he wanted from me. At which point he abruptly ended the call saying he is cancelling the charge. The next thing we know, a concierge of the hotel we were all situated in, contacts us stating that our payment was cancelled.

I immediately started calling the customer service for Hotwire trying to figure out what happened. The first person I talked to said he can't do anything and that I must contact the fraud department. I call the risk management department and the line goes straight to voicemail (meanwhile the hotel is threatening to kick us out if we don't pay immediately). I left three voicemails for the risk management department and to this day (4 days later) no returned call!!! I tried calling the customer service again and again. At my third attempt, the representative rudely hung up on me when I tried to explain to her that we are being kicked out on the street due to the misunderstanding with the fraud department. All representatives kept telling me there is nothing they can do and there is no way for them to contact the risk management department. "You just have to keep trying," they would say.

We managed to come to an agreement with the hotel that we will pay for the first night we are staying there until our bank sees the money return from our wrongfully cancelled charge. I kept calling back trying to figure out when the money will be returned to the bank, and by the third person I talked to, I was finally told 24-48 hours. A total of 96 hours has elapsed at this point and we have seen no sign of our money and no returned phone call from the risk management department.

I booked a San Diego, CA hotel they presented as their save up to 45% Non Cancelable Secret Hot Rate of $91.12 ($72 + 19.12 tax & fees) which turned out to be a Travelodge. BIG DEAL! The rate for this Reservation directly from the hotel is $92.39 ($82 + 8.39 tax) Cancelable. So I saved $1.27 and lost my cancel privilege and points. Also, Travelodge is hardly in the class of the Comfort Inn, Best Western and Ramada you used in your comparisons.

When I called the Company service line several times I got a run around and transferred to another department which didn't answer or disconnected me. Finally when I got through to the customer service representative, she tried to justify my savings by comparing the base rates which were $10 less with them $74 versus $84. However, when I pointed out they were charging $17.12 tax & charges versus the $8.39 from Travelodge which wiped out her savings, she refused to acknowledge the validity of this final effect. When I proposed to her the absurdity of not counting all charges to arrive at a valid comparison, she hung up on me.

Latter, 2 separate Hotwire representatives sent me Emails asking me to call back their Customer Service to resolve my complaint. This turned out to be another nonsense attempt to justify an unjustifiable position. Actually, they paid Travelodge $63 + 6.30 tax and I suspect they may be pocketing some of the state tax they charge me. In any case, they took a 33% profit on this reservation which I believe is 3x the industry standard.

Please Share!!! BEWARE of HOTWIRE hotel reservations. For those of you who have never used Hotwire to make a reservation with a hotel, let me explain how it works. You select a destination and they give you a general rate on hotels in a star rating system. For example, any hotel in that area with three stars will be one price, and any hotel with four stars will be more, but you are guaranteed a savings because they don't show you the name of the hotel until after you have booked. So you are playing Hotel Roulette. However, you can feel comfortable booking a hotel without knowing the name because of the star rating that they have. I have used this service for years and have scored some pretty amazing deals, but last night was the exception, and the customer service on Hotwire's end to fix the problem was non-existent.

A hotel room was booked under a three star rating. My husband wanted something affordable but nicer than a one or two star hotel. Three stars mean "Extra amenities and clean rooms that will make your stay comfortable." However upon arriving at the "three star" hotel my husband was completely dumbfounded. If you were to give this hotel a star rating, it would be negative stars. The room was absolutely terrible. The lock on the door was broken. The light fixtures were broken and were just hanging on the walls by string to keep them up. All the furniture had terrible stains and looked like it had not been cleaned in years. There was silly string and grimy dirt on all the walls and door. The mirror in the bathroom was broken. The shower tiles were falling off the walls. The smell of the room was so acrid that by morning his lungs hurt. Plumping pipes were sticking up from the carpet near the broken Air Conditioner and the ceiling was caving in. Not only that but the hotel offered the exact same price through their personal website so no money savings at all through Hotwire.

Arriving after 11 o clock at night and driving for over 12 hours sleep was the only thing on my husband's mind so he hunkered down for the night and at first light he was out of there. Now am I upset about the quality of the hotel? Not really, you run into hotels like this but what you see is what you get. I am upset at the portrayal of this hotel through a once trusted site like Hotwire. So, okay, they got it wrong. Maybe they just needed to be informed of the situation, so I called them to let them know. I told them about the hotel and the room and their response was, "Every booking is non-refundable and cannot be changed". Even after telling them that this hotel was no three star hotel, I got the same response. They kept trying to pass the buck off on other site by saying that they get their star rating from what is already posted online by other sites. Okay, so you offer a service but it's not your fault because other people are doing it? Ya okay.

Towards the end of the conversation I was being blamed by Hotwire customer service for not switching rooms. It wasn't like this place had an off chance bad room, the WHOLE place was like this room. It would be like switching sleeping in landfill A because landfill B might have better trash. There was no point. So beware when you book a "star rating hotel", you are playing Hotel Roulette even though they "GUARANTEE" their stars ratings, and if you get scammed into a one-star or no star rating hotel and pay three-star prices their response is, "Oh well. Better luck next time". Well, there will be no next time for me.

Quoting my husband on the quality of Hotwire's "three star hotel" - "If I were to sleep with a prostitute I would be more scared of getting diseases from this hotel than the prostitute." - puts the "three-star rating" in perspective.

My son and I were scheduled to go on a trip. It was suggested by a co-worker that I use Hotwire for my travel arrangements - and I did. Hotwire scheduled us on a flight with Virgin Airlines to Los Angeles from Phila round trip. Prior to the trip my son, who is in the Military, broke his leg at the knee and could not travel. We did all the necessary requirements - including submitting a note from the Military that he was not able to travel at that time. They said we would be able to reschedule within a year and had to have it completed by August 2, 2013.

As I was working to make other arrangements, it occurred to me that I did not know when we would be able to travel as it would take him 9 months to heal. He is fine now. However, I was told we would have to travel by August 2, 2013 - While communicating with both Hotwire and Virgin Air as required, and under the clear impression that I had to travel by August 2 - I was told by someone named Daniel (no last name allowed to be given) from Virgin that I simply had to have the trip booked by August 2, and did not have to have the travel done. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes.

Excitedly, I stopped seeking to book the early trip. Yesterday, July 31, 2013, I tried to book a flight before my deadline for October to go to CA to help my niece after surgery. At that time, I was informed by someone named Sherry from Virgin Airlines that I would have to fly prior to August 2. She seemed rude and non-caring although she was probably just doing her job - but more importantly, they told me there is nothing I could do. If I were to try to book a flight for today and fly back tomorrow??? It would cost me twice as much and traveling right now is not possible for me because I care for my elderly Stroke-stricken mother and my husband who has Kidney Disease. My son is being deployed in December. My plan was to change the tickets to October 14 through 18.

I thought it is worth a try to write to you. I later found out the the rules for Hotwire and Virgin are different. Virgin said we only have to be booked - Hotwire's rules state that we would have to have completed our travel. At this time, that is impossible. I was angry when I was put on hold for over 5 minutes at a time only to be abruptly informed that I have no recourse and laughed at when I implied that I would be seeking out the services of Consumer Affairs. Thank you for your time.

So once I got there, they booked me in a tiny cabin with single size bed. There was no desk and no table; my phone didn't work, and I had to pay for internet. The room was really hot once I got there, and it took until 4:00 am in the morning for the room to cool down enough for me to be able to sleep. When I clicked the "?" mark, it states: “You'll see your exact flight times, number of stops, an airline immediately, once you've booked your reservations. Your flight times are chosen for you, within the time period specified. This is a confirmed ticket and you will not be flying standby.”

Well, needless to say, it was outside of the time period specified. It appears they mean the "date period" specified, not the time period. I now have a useless ticket that I cannot use, and all I received when I contacted them was a letter saying they are sorry and pointing me to their terms and conditions. When I responded to the individual who can nicely repeat a scripted message, I got no additional response for over a week. They have false advertising on their site from what I quoted above, and it is in conflict with their "terms and condition". I will ensure they are contacted by someone who can get a response from them. Buyer beware!

I'd like to make fellow consumers aware of false advertising by Hotwire.com, Hotwire, 655 Montgomery St Ste 600, San Francisco CA 94111-2627. Often discount websites for hotels may allow for reduced rate. However, I had the experience with Hotwire that this reduced rate was grossly exaggerated and feel that fellow travelers should be made aware. When I booked, I thought I was getting a fantastic rate ($158) on a hotel that was listed on the site as originally $289, a more than $100 savings per night. I booked the hotel and discovered that it was a Hyatt. When browsing Hyatt's website directly, I noted the room (+ free breakfast not offered through Hotwire) was only $170. This is merely a $12 savings rather than the more than $100 savings. In light of the free breakfast and room type guarantee, I would have booked directly with the hotel. I called Hotwire to inquire about their advertising of the room at originally $289 and requested a refund of the 2 rooms I had booked for 3 nights. They did not issue me a refund.

I saved confirmation without looking closely at it since what I requested was what showed up on the screen prior to hitting the final purchase. I wonder if Hotwire gets all the money and the supposed car rental company, Alamo, got nothing.

But once we booked it for three days, it had $122 in taxes and fees, then after we found out what hotel it was, it said the hotel will also add on resort fees. Actual cost of hotel per night of $139 doubled of what Hotwire said. If they would have said $111 per night (plus this hotel does have resort fees), it would have been more to the truth. Hiding costs does not make me want to use them anymore. This happened before last year also. We were stupid enough to do it again. If they would have said $70 x 3 plus $122 taxes which is on all hotels, it would have helped.

It was the first time that I booked with Hotwire.com. I've heard radio advertisements of the great deals that people receive on rooms so when I saw their "Hot Deals" offer for a 3 Star room at a great savings off of the rack rate, I figured it was ok to let them pick the hotel. After all, it will be a 3 Star place at a hot deal room rate.

Of course, I was very disappointed after my credit card info was provided and I accepted their terms (non refundable) and the hotel selected for me was the Holiday Inn. Especially because I could have booked directly with Holiday Inn.com for a $10 per night lower room rate and also would have my priority points posted for my 3 night stay. It is my opinion that Hotwire.com is defrauding consumers with deceptive Hot Deals advertising. Also, their Star rating system seems to rate hotels higher than many other rating systems and the consumers’ expectations. Keep in mind that if you book with Hotwire, your reward points/miles posted by hotels, airlines, rental cars, etc. may/not be posted.

I called up the customer service, and they said it was completely my fault not to do further research on the map coverage. And it was also my fault that I chose to get the cheap hotel. The lady has a really bad attitude and made me realize that that's how they usually trick customers--trick the ones who do not know about the area, trick them with lower price, and say "It's completely your fault"!

I assumed incorrectly that the $8 travel insurance that I purchased was in case I had to change plans and couldn't travel. My fault. I should have read into the deal. I'm out US$86 for the room, and $8 that I paid to Hotwire's affiliate, Allianz Criminal Global Thiefdom. It is my position that they created the menu in Hotwire so when people like me who are in a hurry are booking, they unknowingly purchase the $8 policy and are trapped into the deal. Shame on me for not being on guard.

The sort of consuming I usually do involves receiving the item you see in the headline of the menu or advertisement. In the rare instance (for me) that I get anything other than what I think I'm buying, I look for places like this to warn others and strike back at deceptive people that took my money (thieves). Perhaps it is my inexperience with travel insurance that bit me, but the step-by-step booking process at Hotwire sure as heck didn't help me avoid this. I like Hotwire but they deceived me on a car rental two years ago and now this. I only lost $94 on this. I could easily have unknowingly been wrapped into a week's worth of hotel bills plus a flight, so I'll move on and be satisfied. I received an education for $94.

Since this is a special sale package, the hotel, car and flight information is not disclosed until after the package is booked. In addition, it was clear to me that I will not get a refund or be allowed to make any changes once booked. However, after paying my money I noticed that the package booked did not include my roundtrip flight. So, I called Hotwire to ask if I can add a roundtrip flight to my package considering that there was a miscommunication in their advertisement that led me to believe that this was a full package. Unfortunately, I am not being accommodated and being told that I have to book my flight separately, which will cost me close to or about the same as what I would be paying if I had the full package that include hotel and car.

At this point, I feel that Hotwire could have given me a courtesy considering that I just purchased the ticket this morning and called back immediately after purchase for assistance. It is not like I called days later or am trying to cancel out. They are not losing anything but gaining more money if I am provided the opportunity to add my flight into the package. I think this is a lousy way to treat consumers; furthermore, booking a hotel and car without flight does not seem to make any sense to me. Please let me know if you can assist me at all. I am writing to complain about the above reference booking. I made the booking approximately 15 minutes before arriving at the hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, I was told by the guest clerk that no reservation for me was found. When I told him that I had booked the room through Hotwire, he told me that it usually took about an hour and a half for them to receive a confirmation from Hotwire. I told him that I had the confirmation on my computer and offered to show him the confirmation. He said that wouldn't do any good and that he had to have the confirmation directly from you.

I asked if I could check in and check back when he received the confirmation, and he said that wouldn't work since I might have to pay for the room twice if he never received the confirmation. He suggested that I call you to get the confirmation sent sooner. I then called your customer service line. I was on hold waiting for a live customer service representative for at least 15 minutes. When I was finally connected to your representative, I explained my problem.

Your representative explained that she could fax the reservation to the hotel after speaking to the desk clerk. I asked for some monetary compensation for my trouble. I explained that I did not believe the hotel was anywhere near a 2.5 star hotel (you sold it to me as a 2.5 star hotel) and that I thought this was a lousy value (I bought the room for 64 plus tax). She said that she was taking care of my complaint by getting me into the room as soon as possible and that was all she could do.

I asked to speak to a manager, and she said it wouldn't do any good and repeated that she was handling my complaint and basically refused to connect me to a manager. I then did get checked into the hotel. I think I should receive a full refund for my room for several reasons. 1). In this age of computers, there is no reason for not being able to get a confirmation to the hotel as soon as the hotel is made.

A delay of an hour and a half to get the confirmation to the hotel is untenable and there should have been no need for me to contact customer service to straighten this out, and taking 15 minutes or more to reach a customer service representative is not an acceptable option. 2). The room was sold to me as a 2.5 star hotel. This is frankly unbelievable. Kayak, Expedia, and your own website list the hotel as a 2 star. In your explanation of ratings on your website, America's Best Value Inns are listed as example of a chain with 1 star rating.

Priceline lists the hotel as 1 star, and the hotel isn't even listed for sale by Hotels.com. The hotel was very old and dirty. Near my room, there was a hole in the wall with an extension cord running into the hotel from the outside. The beds were saggy and very old. I could give many other reasons that the hotel is not a 2.5 star (you list Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, and Hampton Inns as examples of 2.5 star chains).

TripAdvisor lists the hotel as 25th of 29 hotels in Killeen. 3). The booking was not a good value. It was not worth $64 (which is what I paid for the room excluding taxes). Your website's regular listing gives the price of the room as $65 (1 over your Hot Rates). Expedia lists the hotel at $62.10, which means that I can book the hotel through a regular reservation site for less than your Hot Rate. Again, I would request that you give me a full refund. I will be awaiting your prompt response.

I took an offer of $66 for a 4.5-star hotel west of Las Vegas. As soon as I paid for the hotel, I was told the name of the hotel - Red Rock Resort. The message was "Congratulations. You've saved 32%." Then it says there will be a $25 per night "resort fee" to be paid to the hotel upon arrival. I would never have booked a hotel way out of the city for $66 if I'd known I would be hit with an extra $25 in charges. This was a fraudulent, bait and switch tactic. I didn't "save" 32%; I was hit with an extra 40% charge.

When I complained to Hotwire, they said their disclaimer says there may be charges for parking, and other fees, so suck it up. I didn't use parking, and the only benefit I got for this "resort fee" was a shuttle from the airport - except that it stopped at 8 p.m. and my flight arrived at 8:10 p.m. I called the hotel to ask if they could have the shuttle wait, and was told no. So the trip cost me $56 in a taxi. This was a very bad deal and Hotwire needs a class action suit for this fraudulent bait and switch tactic. Hotwire knew that Red Rock Resort would add an extra $25 and should have disclosed this instead of hiding it until my credit card was charged and I couldn't cancel. I think Hotwire colludes with various hotels to get them additional fees on top of what the customer has agreed to pay. This hotel stay cost me way more than a 4-star hotel in Las Vegas would have cost, and I would not have had a bogus $25 "resort" fee added or a $56 taxi bill.

Sometimes their site will indicate the rates have gone up by $50 or the flight is full, but they are not updating the info. I have called 3 times and emailed them, but the old low rates are still advertised on their website. Any recourse they promise is not done. This is false advertising. Orbitz, Expedia, and Priceline also do this but I did not contact them.

A confirmation email was received on 7/05/09 for a car rental in San Juan, Puerto Rico at Dollar car rental at $26.49 a day for four days from 7/11/09 to 7/15/09. Upon arrival on 7/11/09 at San Juan Dollar rental office, the rate was changed to $26.49 a day for the first two days and $32.99 a day for the third and fourth days. The Hotwire representative Laurie and the Dollar rental representative Madeline stated they were unable to change the terms even if I had in my possession a confirmation email with the $26.49 a day price, which was presented to the Dollar car rental representative Laurie.

Hotwire violated their own ranking policy and rated a hotel a 3-star based on the hotel ranking of itself. Priceline, Yahoo, and Expedia all ranked lower than a 3. The policy is to take an average, but when most rankings are 2s and the highest is 3, the average cannot be 3. Customer service after 45 minutes told me that they had cancelled the reservation. But 3 days later, the credit card had not been refunded. A second call resulted in an admission that the reservation had been cancelled, but they would have to refer it for research before refunding money from a cancellation. I understand the no refund policy, which is fine as long as the quality of hotel is what is advertised. This is a bait and switch scam. The chain itself is listed by Hotwire as an example of a typical 2-star property. Although not all chain hotels earn the same rating, this is clearly not a 3-star in terms of facilities, safety and location, which was only on the fringe of the advertised area.

I booked a hotel through Hotwire.com. The hotel was listed as a 3 star hotel. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, my mother, my son and myself were registered as guests. They put us in the old hotel location which is not even a 2 star hotel. They put three adults in a room with a single bed. The TV was so dark that we could not even see the picture. No one in the hotel would do anything because of the contract they have with Hotwire. The contract from Hotwire states that no changes would be made at all. So we are stuck in this old, dirty hotel for 3 days with a single bed and an old lumpy roll away bed and no TV that we can see. If you book through Hotwire.com, I recommend that you inquire as to the specific details before agreeing to any booking.

I reserved a car with Hotwire.com on 4/9/2009 for use from 4/17 to 4/20. On 4/11, we decided we would not take this trip and I called Hotwire to cancel. I was advised that they had a no cancellation policy. I was told this policy was on the agreement, which I later found after I had entered all information on the website, including my card number. This is a totally deceptive situation. No one should have to pay for something they cancelled at least 24 hours before the reservation day, unless it is a special made product. What ever happened to fairness?

Here is a copy of the e-mail that I sent to Hotwire.
March 8, 2009 SUBJECT: Itinerary # 4529667850 Quella LaShawn Strawder TO whom it may concern, Hello, my name is Yolanda Franklin. I am writing this e-mail regarding unsatisfactory service that I received from your Atlanta International Airport location. Below, is a brief explanation of the situation. I would appreciate a phone call to relieve this situation as soon as possible. My number is (626) 388-8139. A reservation was made through, 'Hotwire' for a rental for Sunday March 8, 2009 through Sunday March 15, 2009 for my sister Quella LaShawn Strawder. The reservation # is 17491046US6 (with Hotwire). Upon arriving to Atlanta, Georgia from California, AVIS said that they would need an additional $ 200.00 on the card in addition to the total cost of $235.93 already paid. I am unsatisfied with this! The purpose of using Hotwire was to obtain the car in full with no other requirements. My sister Quella went to Atlanta to work. The cost of the plane and car were paid on her debit card. She has not other money. In speaking with AVIS (Atlanta International Airport location), the Manager Eddie, informed me that this is a common problem with Hotwire reservations and that only Hotwire could resolve the situation. I have a problem with the fact that this is a consistent issue with you and AVIS (according to the Manager) and yet it is not resolved and nothing is being done to alleviate customers that are caught in the middle. In speaking with the Hotwire Customer Service line, they informed me that the only thing that they could do was cancel the reservation and give Hotwire Dollars for future purchase. That would NOT alleviate the situation in any way, shape or form. To give Hotwire Dollars does not give Quella a car to drive to get to work. It is after midnight in Atlanta, Georgia right now and Quella still does not have the transportation that she paid for. I am writing this letter because I would like her debit card, credited back the full amount of $235.93 immediately or provide her the compensation of the vehicle for the week that she is there with no additional fee//cost besides the amount she has already paid. Please contact me as soon as possible regarding this situation. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Yolanda Franklin E-mail: ywfranklin@gmail.com

We used Hotwire to book our car rental through Dollar Rental in Orlando, FL. We were to pick the car up at their Universal Blvd location the evening of 02/11/2009. We were told while booking they would hold the car for 24 hours.
We called to let them know our flight was late and we would not be able to pick it up in the morning. We were told there would be an additional $300 charge for the car. We were told that the 24 hour hold was through Hotwire only and not honored by Dollar. Had we been told this up front we would never have booked with either company. An additional $300 was not in our budget and we would up cancelling the reservation. We wound up spending more than we had planned on another car rental and cabs. This really put a damper on our vacation. I don't see how waiting to pick a car up by 8 hours would increase the price by $300.Both Hotwire and Dollar were unapologetic and offered no help at all. I feel since we were told we had 24 hours to pick up the car we should have had 24 hours whether with Dollar or another company or been reimbursed the difference. I will never use either again and plan on giving a bad referral to everyone I know.

I booked a hotel with Hotwire. After they disclosed where the reservation was, I went to Orbitz and found the same hotel at a cheaper rate. I called Hotwire- they have a low price guarantee. Hotwire stated that because they listed the hotel rate lower than Orbitz and then add fee's and taxes after- the guarantee did not apply! Orbitz with the room rate, taxes, and fee's was lower. AND the hotel I booked on Hotwire is 15 miles away from the city listed.

Booked a hotel that is said in Pike Market Area. Although Hotwire does not disclose the exact address of the hotel, if the area was said to be Pike Market (Seattle), I would expect it is not too far from the area,e.g., in the area. Though the hotel booked by Hotwire was far from Pike Market, not walking distance, out of no where, no where close to Pike Market. Though they refuse to alter or refund the reservation on their false information, saying the hotel is in colored area(which they described as Pike Market). I believe I was given false information and offered no support nor refund. Which I believe just the matter of ripping off people to pack someone into out of nowhere hotel. I will not recommend their service.

I bought a hotel room in Madison, Wisconsin hotline.com after choosing a category that was described as close to the capitol and University of Wisconsin. When the Web site revealed the name and location of the hotel, it was not even in Madison, but an adjoining suburb, and it was miles from the university. When I tried to tell the customer service people that I did not want the room, they refused to let me cancel and get my money back.
