I was looking at hotels but NEVER booked. Two days later I receive an email saying the hotel was booked and I was charged. I called Hotwire and was told they would not refund or credit my account and in fact had already charged me! I am disputing it with my credit card company now. The dates I was looking at are 2 months away!

We are a modest family of four and we wanted to save money to travel. Unforeseen circumstances made us cancel our trip. Out $1000. Don't risk it. We will never use Hotwire again and encourage our friends and family to never use them. Criminal.

I've used this service 3 times now and was never disappointed. However, today when I purchased 3 nights in Paris (hotel was described as 3-star with advertised price of $261) for $119 per night, I was shocked when I searched the regular price of the hotel and found all websites show the price per night as $141 (including their sister website Hotels.com). A reduction in price of $22 a night is hardly worth not knowing the name, exact location and other details. It's completely misleading to compare a $147 a night hotel with one priced at $261 and had I known that, I wouldn't have made the purchase.
My concerns were escalated to a supervisor who advised me that all sales are final and I should've read the fine print which apparently states the pricing information is not based on the hotel but the area. Wow - unbelievable. I do quite a bit of travelling and have also used the same service with Priceline and have never had an issue. Hotwire has certainly lost my business and I think everyone who considers purchasing through Hotwire should be aware of this practice.

DON'T buy airline tickets from Hotwire. If you miss the first flight, they automatically cancel your return flight on a round trip. After asking for speaking with a supervisor I got transferred to Lia ** in Oregon "she said" and she couldn't prove any of those terms and still did not provide any help. They are terrible, will never use them again.

Booked hotel and car on 2-9-15 for one night stay in Austin dated for 2-14-15 only to get the car and drive to the hotel and find no reservations available. Waited an hour on Hotwire customer service line in the lobby of the hotel then got blamed by Hotwire customer service rep and supervisor for the date changing during process of payment. Kept repeating policy like I didn't understand. Overt-talking me very loudly. How can one book a car and hotel on the same date to arrive and one of the reservation are changed? Left me with a car, no hotel and all hotels were book solid. Never book with Hotwire again unless you got money to throw away.

I was out west skiing when I made a reservation with Hotwire for a car rental for 15 days starting on the 18th of February 2015. The 18th was the wrong date it should have been the 19th of February. I tried to call and change the date to the 19th but waited many hours over a period of a couple of weeks before getting to speak to anyone. I eventually waited them out and got to speak with Mark. Mark had a heavy accent but had no problem understanding my problem. He informed me that I had to make any change within 24 hours and I explained I did not realize my mistake until I got home a week after the reservation and he informed me nothing could be done that I could pick up the car on the 19th as long as it was within 24 hours of the original reservation. I told him it might be more like 28 to 30 hours before I got there and he informed me that I would lose my entire rental.
I asked to speak to his supervisor and he informed me his supervisor would tell me the same thing... I told him I didn't care so he put me on hold and had not returned after 45 so minutes I hung up. I believe Hotwire is an unethical company that I had never dealt with before and will never consider dealing with again. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!

I've used Hotwire many times in the past. The thing with Hotwire is that you can't expect much when booking a hotel through them. For example, a 4-star hotel in New York City is not going to be a large, luxurious room like some people think. You will get a queen size bed at possibly the W New York or the Westin Grand Central for around $280 a night (normally in the $350 a night range), plus taxes and service charges of around 20%. In Orlando, a 4-star was the Hyatt Regency at $169 a night, when the regular rate was $209, a decent savings, but nothing to write home about. I did get a great deal in San Francisco when I booked the Westin St Francis hotel at $139 a night, compared to the normal rate of $305 per night. The room was SMALL, under 200 square feet, but I saved a good bit of money.
The worst deal I got was at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans, which was rated a 5-star hotel. I paid $270 a night for a old, outdated, musty room. They had renovated rooms which they wanted an additional $120 a night to upgrade to. In short, Hotwire is like gambling, it can be hit or miss. Just don't expect to stay at a Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, or St. Regis for $150 a night, it will NEVER happen!

I booked a room 2/14/15 for Orlando, Florida. When I arrived, the hotel didn't honor the booking and explained Hotwire should have contacted me about rebooking my room. I called them and they stated that I must have not checked my spam emails. I explained to them my emails come to my phone and had not received any emails from them, not even in my spam which I rechecked, no email. They then stated they didn't have any room they could book us in, but room refund the money. I explained I have drived 3 1/2 hours and needed a room, rudely I was told this is what they can do! If I flew in from somewhere else I would have been in a lot of trouble. It also was Daytona 500 weekend, no rooms were available anywhere on our ride back home. We were tired from driving over Orlando and Kissimmee area so we thought let's just stay in Daytona. No rooms. We had no choice but to drive home.

Booked a hotel in Times Square through Hotwire. Arrived at the hotel only to be told there were no rooms available and I would have to go to another hotel located near Central Park. Wouldn't mind be in Central Park in July but not February. I called Hotwire asking for help but received none. As stated by others, Hotwire may provide great deals but not worth the savings if you encountered an issue. Terrible customer service - scripted responses and they aggressively try to end the conversation quickly. They refused to cancel my original booking and book another hotel in Times Square even though I offered to pay the difference if the new booking was more expensive. Hotwire would not take any responsibility for me being relocated and were unwilling to help. This was the last time I use Hotwire.

I booked a car rental from 6:30pm on Feb 27th to 6:30 pm on Mar 2nd. During the process of choices, I checked for many times and it showed the day span is 3 days, with the price at $30/day. Also, I added insurance which is $9 daily. I am very confident that I did it, because I discussed with my boyfriend before making this decision.
Thus, before I clicked the "confirm" button, the total price is 30 (for rental per day) *3 days + 9 (insurance)*3 days +40 (tax) = about 160. Since the total price on the confirmation was also about $160, I didn't go through the details on that day on Jan 19th. However, today I found that actually on the reservation there are two mismatches from what I selected. It changed the drop off time to be 1 hour later, so that the day span has been changed to 4 days!!! It showed no insurance in this order!!! The total amount after these two mistakes is still around $160. That was why I didn't realize it right away.
Today I called Hotwire and told them what happened to me. They rejected to do any efforts and insisted what were shown in the reservation was done by me. I explained that I am sure about my selections on both time and insurance. For example, my flight will leave Miami at 7pm, so it is impossible that I planned to return the car at 7:30pm. Then, the agent hung up the phone without any notification or solutions. This is the worst experience I have ever had with travel agency ever. The lesson is: DON'T CHOOSE HOTWIRE!

I received an email from Hotwire, indicating that the hotel for which I received a reservation confirmation is overbooked, and while I can appreciate that new accommodations were made on my behalf, I am very disappointed with the lack of accountability demonstrated for this error. I spoke to a representative over the phone regarding this change in my reservation, and I explained that according to the current published rates at the replacement hotel (on their website), I am not receiving any kind of discount on my reservation whatsoever.
In other words, I booked through hotwire.com in order to receive a discounted rate on my booking, but due to this oversight, I am actually paying the full published rate for the alternative hotel, as per their own website. I am planning on staying in New York for an additional night (Sunday, Feb 15) and suggested that perhaps as compensation, this extra night could be added to my reservation. I was told that this was not possible, and furthermore, that nothing at all could be done to account for the difference in value and inconvenience that I am left with.
While I was offered the option of cancelling my reservation with a refund, the fact is that I am 3 days away from arriving in New York, and hotel prices have increased significantly from the time at which I booked. I would be remiss if I did not express how unacceptable I believe it is, for no accountability to be taken on Hotwire's behalf, and moreover, I am frustrated that there is an outright refusal to acknowledge the difference in value of the two reservations. I travel quite a bit, and will NEVER again book through Hotwire.

I called in today to see if there was any way I could (if not cancel) just get a credit for my reservation. I'm losing my father sometime this weekend and I'll be flying out Thursday. I asked the rep what would be my options. She advised that I could cancel and she would submit my request to the research team for review for a refund. She also stated that I would have to fax medical information to them. I asked if it was time sensitive because a hotel would not be on my mind while with my dad. I don't think she understood my question and stated that the research team would get back to me within 5-10 days. I explained that wasn't my question and asked if there was someone else I could speak with. She stated she could help me and asked me to repeat my question, I did. Still there was a misunderstanding.
I then told her to keep the reservation because it was too much trouble and asked if I could give the room to someone so it wouldn't feel like such a loss. She said no because it's in my name. I then said can I add a name and they use it. She explained I would have to check in first. How can I check in to a hotel if I'm visiting my dying father, was my thought. I then asked to speak with someone else four times and each time she said they would tell me the same thing. I asked her if she was denying me the chance to speak with someone else. She then stated she could help me. I asked her to keep everything the same with my account and I will try to contact a supervisor. I asked for her name and badge or employee number she told me her name was Mel and that's all she could give. Then the phone went silent. I said hello and waited a couple of minutes and there was silence.
This whole experience was extremely unprofessional in my opinion. There is no empathy for my loss and I'm denied access to a manager. I can honestly say I can never see myself using Hotwire again. This was the worse I have ever been treated while spending money. I ended my emails stating I would appreciate a response from this complaint and some type of resolution that's not going to put me in a worse situation. The response I received advised me to call THE EXACT SAME NUMBER to review their policies and procedures?!? I refused to call that number again only to go through that hassle not even 24 hours later. I honestly have more important things on my mind right now.

My wife went on to Hotwire to book reservations for an upcoming flight. She is leaving two days before me and did her reservation first. Took a little while but this was expected. After she completed hers, she attempted to do mine. She kept getting a 1320 error (Whatever that is). She called hot wire and was shifted from person to person 5-6 times. This went on for almost two hours without being able to secure my reservation. She actually ended up at the first person she spoke to. While this was going on she again tried several times to make the reservation online and every time she got the same error message. Finally after much frustration she hung up and tried again online. When she was able to make my reservation, they were going to charge an extra $83 for my return flight.

I recently booked the hotel via Hotwire, which is Kauai Beach Resort An Aqua Boutique, 4331 Kauai Beach Drive, Lihue, Kauai, HI, 96766. Hotwire advertised that this hotel is four stars hotel. Actually, before booking the hotel, I tried numerous bidding of four stars grading hotel at Priceline.com but I failed to do so that I visited Hotwire. To my surprise, their deal of 4-star grading hotels was just $113 per night. Compared to Priceline, com, it was real deal, which is much lower than Priceline.com that showed their express deal from $166 to $180 per night for four stars hotels. I booked the hotel immediately. However, I found that most sites except a few indicated the hotel as a 3.5 stars grade hotel. Thus, I claimed it to Hotwire and they mentioned that Hotwire starts with Expedia star ratings.
However, according to Expedia, the grade of Kauai Beach Resort is 3.5 stars instead of 4 stars. It means deceptive Hotwire star ratings system is a definite cheating and it needs to be amended. I asked Hotwire to change the hotel into another four stars grade hotel or to upgrade the room. Nonetheless, they finally refused, just said that they understand and acknowledge my feedback. I should have not used Hotwire and rather tried via Priceline.com. Because I did not know that Hotwire has the special art of chicanery. They make people like me believe the hotel which most sites evaluate 3.5 stars grade hotel as four stars grade hotel. I will never use it from now on. Remember, never forget to check stars grade of hotels in Hotwire and compare it to another. Please do not make a mistake like me.

I called Hotwire and they had the hotel give us another room, but all of the rooms are the same. The furniture is falling apart, there are holes in the walls and doors, and the paint is coming off of the walls! I called Hotwire back and they said that they can't do anything for us. Exasperated! I had a confirmed, printed confirmation directing me to a Budget location in downtown Salt Lake City on a recent Saturday in late January. Having flown in and rushed by cab to an appointment in the city, I then subsequently hauled all my luggage 6 blocks to the designated location, only to discover that Budget had vacated that office 2 years earlier.
When I called Budget and then Hotwire, I was first advised that I’d need to get a taxi back out to the airport, where a totally new rental could possibly be arranged. Given upcoming commitments that involved a 45 minute drive in the opposite direction to Park City, I ended up having no choice but to do exactly that expending $27 on the cab ride and then getting a new rental through Budget at the airport for $60 more than the original Hotwire quote and more than I would have gotten via a direct booking with Budget weeks earlier.
There were simply no other viable options at the time for an exhausted traveler who had already lost time and money in the process. However, later, when I later contacted Hotwire to see what they could do to demonstrate their concern about the screw-up, the most they could offer was a $20 credit toward a future Hotwire booking. Right, like there’s going to BE a future booking with Hotwire!

Feeling ripped off and Hotwire does not care. I feel in booking like this you should have the right to cancel within an hour of booking. I was mislead to thinking I was saving up to 40%, in fact I saved 0. This is not fair to the customer if I booked with hotel I could cancel. I mean their rate was better than hotwire. Buyer beware. Hotwire ripped me off and did not care. They lost a customer and still did not care when in fact I booked the total price of $299.00. If I booked with hotel I would of spent $228.00-- big difference. They gave me $17.00 back. Big rip.

Because my son was stranded in Denver without ID (lost his wallet) I was faced with trying to find him a place to stay and someone to check him in with ID. It was midnight in NY where I was making arrangements and I booked a room close by. When we read the confirmation, however, it was for two days later. I called and was told they would make a one time change and was given a second reservation in Westminster - many miles away. I did not realize there was no way for him to get there but when I contacted him it was clear that Westminster was too far and the person who was willing to help him check in could not go either, so he called and was promised a refund and shortly thereafter, disconnected.
We never got the refund and when I call customer service the policy is quoted "all reservations are non refundable"... It cost me over a hundred dollars for my son to spend the night at a 24 hr. restaurant.

Therefore, on 1-27-15 I booked a different room at a different hotel through Expedia.com and received a confirmation email the next morning. Both of the above mentioned rooms were considered "non-refundable".
This morning (5 days after I tried to book the first room), I received an email from Hotmail.com confirming that I had that room! I called them & tried to get the reservation canceled since I didn't want to pay for 2 rooms at different hotels on the same night! Since it took them FIVE days to send me a confirmation email, I felt that they should have been the travel site to cancel the first reservation. I then called Expedia.com, explained the situation, and Benjamin & Greg were VERY helpful! Even though it wasn't their mistake as to why I had 2 rooms booked for the same night, (it was Hotwire's mistake not to send me a confirmation email in a timely fashion) they contacted the hotel & were able to cancel that room & see that my credit card was refunded! They had a zero fee to cancel my wife's trip and to push out a trip for many months down the road.
Hotwire was just the opposite. 1st off, you are speaking to people off shore. They wanted a death certificate, a marriage certificate, an obituary clipping, as proof of death of my mother in law. They won't let you use the funds at a later date, as I would have been happy to. They have a no refund policy, unless death. I faxed all of that information to Hotwire and I'm still waiting to hear from them. I called again, spoke to someone located off shore and got nowhere with these people. I will never use Hotwire again. The savings is not worth the aggravation if you should have to cancel. I went to book a "Hot" Rate for a hotel in the 33462 Zip. They call this "Central Palm Beach" area. The site said that the median price of the 2.5 star hotels was $249.00 and the Hot price was $89. They said this was a 64% savings. What I got was a hotel that's rack rate was $100 for $89 a savings of 11%. I called to challenge this. I went through four different staff all of which had a different explanation of how their median rate was calculated. The first said stars had nothing to do with it but that if the median price was $249 it couldn't be a 2.5 star. The next was a little bit better but really didn't understand. The next one used the correct method and came up with a median of $175. I tried to explain to them that it wasn't that difficult to do given that there are so few hotels in the area and that only two of them were 2.5 star rating. One was $249 per night the other was $100 per night. That is a total of $349 and the correct median would be $175.
I then explained that if the median savings was 64% then if I was charged $89 for my hotel the other must be charging $37 per night for their $249 per night room. (Calculation 349 x 64% savings means the combine price of the two rooms had to be $126, deducting my room at $89 leaves you with $37.) I finally got passed onto a man who basically said that none there had enough information and that there may have been many other 2.5 star hotels included in the calculation. I explained that he had obviously not been to Hypoluxo. There aren't more than ten hotels in the whole area they define as Central Palm beach. He basically refused to listen to my points nor would he comment on my calculation, just said he didn't have the information necessary. He brusquely asked if there was anything else and was gone. Their practices are clearly deceptive and may even be fraudulent. Hopefully someone will take action.

I am very disappointed because, the last night I reserved a hotel in Barcelona and, even I know the policy and terms of this site, the information that were given did not correspond the expectations. Being more specific, this site gave the information that the hotel is in the neighborhood called "Passeig de Gracia" and, it is 5 stars. Moreover, there are other sites that offer the same hotel for a similar price. Even though the hotel is located in the neighborhood "Paseo de Gracia", it is too far from the main points of the neighborhood. In addition, the 5 stars do not correspond to other 5 stars hotels that are much well located. In conclusion, it can be said that the information given are like a false advertising. So, taking in consideration all the complaints above and, that the reservations was made less than 24 hours, I wanted to cancel this booking and they denied it!
How can I not cancel a reservation that is not near from the Passeig de Gracia? How can I not cancel something that provides false information? I know the terms of contract and it is totally abusive! Moreover, the Hotwire should know that this hotel is not a 5 stars hotel. This hotel has to be ranking in a 3 stars hotel. I know that this ranking is provided by the hotel, but the Hotwire should check if it is really a 5 stars hotel. This is a false advertising.

I also found some other deals that would only have cost me 4 more with the ability to cancel.
This certainly isn't a hotel I would have chosen but if you go in blind I didn't expect much other than the great saving. This great saving does not exist. I phoned customer services who were not interested. They told me I had to stay there and the saving is what it is. I emailed customer escalations who have not got back to me. My wife and I are now in a hotel outside of town, we only did this on the assumption of a ridiculously great deal. 4 isn't ridiculously great, why would a hotel want to hide that saving?

I booked a 3 star hotel and got a best western plus which is rated 2.5 stars on Expedia. When I wrote to complain and ask for an upgrade that I paid for, they explained to me that Hotwire bases their star rating on Expedia and customer ratings. When I booked the hotel on Hotwire it was only 70% recommended and also said the regular price was over $170. But on most sites the max price was $110. Furthermore, the site lists similar hotels to what the deal includes. Best Western was not one of those hotel types.
Hotwire LIES about their deals. Their hotel star ratings are totally false. They still will not give a refund even though their information is wrong. I feel cheated and will not ever use this site for future travel needs. I also warned everyone I know not to use their site. You are better off booking directly to get a what you'd like. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this problem either as I have seen other consumer reviews that complain of the same issue. They should be sued! What was advertised as an airport hotel had no shuttle and their 'recommended' taxi company did not operate at night. When we asked to simply transfer to another hotel closer to airport, they would only offer a higher rate, a rate that was available on the hotel's website that we were not willing to pay. They would refund our original rate of $60US for a 2 star if we would take a $90US room from the same chain for a 2 star room. In other words, if they could make money, they would 'help'.
We were on hold for an hour while a customer service rep tracked down a supervisor who was completely unhelpful. A follow-up phone call with the manager provided no resolve. Having worked in the customer service industry for 20+ years with the military, I find this company's service appalling and will never use them again. They benefit from people like us who only want to be accommodated in a reasonable fashion while there is no room for logic on their part when things go wrong. All would be fine if the price was actually 40% off... You know what even 25% off, but going through all of this in order to get a standard price for a low rated 4* hotel?? Called the support 1 minute after the reservation and asked them to cancel the order or provide another hotel that stands for their offer but they wouldn't do it. Over the holiday I rented a standard car from Hotwire, which states that you will receive a Ford Fusion or similar. However, when I got to Hertz, they said the standard car was a 2-door Altima. If you research these two cars on the Internet, they aren't even competitors. According to the industry, the Ford Fusion competes against the 4-door versions of the Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Altima, and Hyundai Sonata. Additionally, if you look up the specs on the Ford Fusion (only comes in a 4-door), and compare to the 2-door Altima, you will find that the Fusion is considerably larger.
Overall, Hotwire is miss-representing the type of car that you will actually get from the chosen vendor. Now I don't care if it is a 4-door Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, etc. But when you are expecting a certain size of car and get one that is considerably smaller, you will feel really miss-led.

To be fair, at the very end when you confirm the reservation, there was a notice that said "All prices are quoted in US dollars", however, if you are comparing prices for packages on different sites, you would not know until you go to check out. This might not be the case if you select a currency that does not use the $ sign.
Customer service was awful! I was on the phone for a total of 1 hour between the regular agent and one who claimed to be a supervisor. He re-figured the rates for both in Euros and said he was including a vehicle upgrade and a tank of gas for our trouble. Under duress I signed the agreement knowing I had no recourse in a foreign country and I could dispute the charges with the credit card company when we arrived home. When I reviewed my credit card statement and saw what the actual cost was in dollars, it was clear, at double the original quoted rate, that I had been taken for a ride. I called the hotel and they let me know I would be getting a room with one queen bed and a couch bed. It should not be "guaranteed" that you get the worst sleeping situation. A couch bed is NOT acceptable for a grown man. I realized right after booking that I said this and immediately called the hotel and Hotwire.com to try to get what I needed and to no avail. Hotwire.com denied helping me in any way and I even had my credit card company's dispute representative call them on a 3-way call to try to get what I need. They would rather do bad business for themselves and the hotels they deal with. Stay away from them!!!! Hotwire.com is the worst "middleman" for a hotel I have ever used. When a customer calls after realizing they made a mistake, they should help them.

I reserved a hotel from Hotwire for 3 nights. Hotwire withdrew the funds from my bank account & I received an email confirmation. I called Hotwire to confirm this reservation today only for them to tell me that my reservation is cancelled due to a (fraudulent) phone call. I was livid! I was told I no longer had a hotel and I was not receiving a refund until they received "proper documentation of the funeral"! I explained to them that I was who I was and that the phone call was fraud. There is NO funeral, I wanted my paid reservation, I did NOT call to cancel. They were extremely condescending to me and kept talking over me and repeating themselves. No one listened. I asked several times to be connected to a supervisor. After being on hold for 15 min!, I was hung up on. I called back only to repeat myself to 2 more people and be placed on hold AGAIN for a supervisor who informed me of the same thing. I was not receiving a refund until they received a death certificate (there is no death!!). I was not getting a hotel even though I was the person the reservation was made by.
All they ask for on the phone to verify your identification is your phone number and your email. This information is common knowledge of anyone in your life. I was livid that this is all they ask for on the phone to verify your identification! I cannot believe this company gets away with STEALING money. They stole from me. They have my $220.00 and they have my hotel room. I received nothing. I will not get my money back because there is no funeral/death. I will not get a hotel room. This company just stole $220.00 from me and I have nothing in return! No refund, no hotel! Stay clear of this company. They are shady, rude, and condescending on the phone. I am a struggling single mother, $220.00 is a lot of money to lose. I am exasperated they get away with this. They just made $220.00 off of me and I got nothing for it. Unbelievable. Unethical.

This was my first experience with Hotwire and the fact that I am taking time out of my day to write about my experience is huge, because I rarely, if ever, do this. I had heard about Hotwire through my Dad. He said that the website gives you a general idea of where the hotel is located, how much you will pay, and the star-rating of the hotel. Because the hotel is randomly generated, you pay less money for the hotel than if you were to go straight through the hotel website. I thought this sounded safe and a good way to save some money. Hotwire also makes this claim as well.
After I purchased the hotel through random generation, I discovered that the hotel I purchased was only 20 dollars more expensive then what I paid. Hotwire claimed the hotel was around a 210 dollar value per night. I ended up paying around 105 dollars with 22 dollars in tax per night for a total of 254.00 for two nights. Upon looking up the actual price of the hotel I found that the hotel only cost around $240.00 for two nights. According to the hotels site I had paid 14 dollars more for my reservation through Hotwire, excluding any hotel tax I would have paid! This was disappointing to say the least.
Once arriving at the hotel I discovered that Hotwire did not cover the hotels complementary services, which Hotwire did not make me aware of before my purchase. That was an additional $35. If I had gone through the hotel's site, the price of the room would have covered the complementary services. When reviewing my email receipt Hotwire mentioned that I would have to pay for "resort fees" upon arrival. No where did they state this before my purchase. They decided to throw this tidbit onto the receipt after I made my purchase. ON TOP of that, I was told that parking was not included, which Hotwire had indeed promised, and said was included in my purchase. Parking was around 25 dollars per day.
In the end without taking parking into consideration, I paid 289 dollars. This is 49 dollars more for my hotel room than I would have paid if I had just gone through the website due to the so called complementary services the hotel offered (which I was forced into paying for). Not only that but I was forced into paying for parking, because the hotel Hotwire chose for me did not include parking. Ultimately I paid 339 dollars in total, 85 dollars more than I had originally wished to pay. I will never go through Hotwire again. It is a scam! If you're smart you won't either!

In October I rented a car though Hotwire and Hertz, in Framinham, MA. I drove to Portland Me and when I hit the first toll booth in ME the teller told me that I was dragging something on the bottom of my car. I pulled over and called Hertz to be told to climb under the car and push the air dam back up. I had them call a tow truck. It turns out that someone had duct taped the air dam to the front bumper and was towed to the Portland Airport. When I got there, I was told there were no cars available and to come back around 6 or 7 PM (this was at Noon). When I returned I was told to wait and about 7 got a vehicle. I requested a credit from the manager and was told that they didn't have any authority to do this.
When I returned home, I called Hertz corporate, Hot wire, Hertz in Framingham, but no apology or credit. I then made the mistake of using Hotwire again to book a car in Flint MI. When it turned out I didn't need the vehicle (4 days prior to pickup) I tried to cancel the reservation and was told by Hotwire that it couldn't be canceled, I was stuck. Great customer service. They obviously don't expect repeat business. Never again!!!!!

After buying it and I got the hotel's name revealed I was very upset as the rate of USD53 was the same, the hotel they gave had published at their website!!! No discount at all!! Don't believe on these offers! When I complained, the only answer I got from them was that it was nonrefundable. Of course I would never ask for a refund if they would have given me a hotel of USD120 rate they promised on their advertisement. It is really disappointing, it is the first time I get ripped-off with a travel agency.

Booked two night hotel stay through Hotwire with caption 'only 5 left at this price' and last person got The Langham hotel. Later that day I received an email for price drop. I opened the email and searched my area and star rating. When I clicked, I saw that last person who booked got the Langham for $20 less per night. Since Hotwire has a guarantee, I thought that I would be protected since not even 24 hours had passed. Therefore, I contacted Hotwire. A file was opened and a request for documentation was received. Even though I had screen shots, they would not accept due to internet security and required a fax.
Eventually, I was able to find a fax and sent documentation both the price drop email and copy of showing The Langham hotel for $20 less per night. The claim was denied because the initial email heading had listed a 5 star hotel, not my 4.5 star hotel. The documentation of what occurred when I opened the email and searched for my area/star rating was not considered. It clearly showed the last person booked got The Langham hotel. According to all of the other responses that I read, it does not appear as if they honor their guarantee. Isn't that false advertising?

Online, looking for low-cost car rental for 10 days over Christmas & New Years in San Francisco. Hotwire pops up with an under-$30/day rate, best at the time. Having seen how airfares have risen over the past week, I jumped on it. Name, credit card, click the box that says I agree blah blah blah. Confirmed. Great. Next day, on hotwire, I see a lower daily rate for a larger car. No problem; I'll just cancel the first one and lock in the second, in that order. (At least I was smart enough to know I should do it in that order.) Found the confirmed reservation, now with verbiage I had not seen before, identifying it as a "hot rate" reservation, which cannot be cancelled or changed. What?? I get that they already charged me (which is unusual for vehicle rentals in general), but I can't change it??
Called their customer service. It's now 24 hours + or - since I made the reservation. "Nope sorry, can't cancel. You clicked the 'I agree' box. If you find exact same model at a lower rate on another site, we'll match it, that's our guarantee. But we won't match our own rates: we don't compete with ourselves." Bad review. Less than one star. I'm spending $50 more over the holidays in San Fran than I needed to. Because a marketing term ("Hot Rate") means I can't change or cancel the reservation.

When I asked to speak to her manager she told me that her manager knew no more than her and then I asked again. She said something that I didn't understand, then hung up on me.
Is this the way Hotwire conducts their business? Cheap deals, no cancellations, and extremely poor customer service? I am 110% dissatisfied and I will never use Hotwire ever again. I immediately called Hotwire to let them know the circumstances and was informed that I would have to fax them my daughter's BIRTH CERTIFICATE in order for them to cancel and refund our money. I don't care what company you are. Unless you are a government agency or a doctor's office, you have NO business requesting that information. So I made that ridiculous story up about having a daughter just to cancel a reservation??? Yeah right. I'd understand if I had a history of calling to try and cancel reservations, but I don't have a history with them at all because I've never used them before. I was so angry that I hung up on the guy I was speaking to. Apparently, as a father (or so he claims to be) he has no issues whatsoever about showing his kids' birth certificates to anyone. We were trying to book a hotel and after I typed in all the info a pop up window stated that the transaction could not be completed due to a booking error, and that the payment was not processed. So we attempted one more time, and then decide to look at a different area on Hotwire in case it was an issue with that hotel. We received the same error. I figured there may be an issue with my card. So I checked my bank statement online and realized that I was being charged for all of those bookings. This is not what frustrated me. I understand that technology is not perfect and there are glitches.
This is the part that frustrated me. After I discovered the error, I called Hotwire’s customer services. The associate told me that they did not charge my card and that it was my bank holding the money. Either way I have no money now and no hotel and I definitely don't see my bank at fault. The associate then proceeded to tell me that my card was kicked out of the system because the transaction didn't go through 3 times. He said even if I still wanted to book a hotel on Hotwire that I was out of luck. He wasn't willing to help out in anyway. He said I needed to deal with my bank to resolve the issue. I called my bank and they confirmed what I was already thinking. Hotwire was holding the funds. Thanks for holding our money Hotwire and leaving us without a hotel!

I have booked trips with Hotwire for years and never had a problem until I purchased their insurance they sell where you can cancel your trip one time for any reason at all. Well, sad to say I lost my money because they fail to explain that not only will they deduct the airline fee for changing your flight which is $200 something bucks, but Hotwire also charges a $200 fee. That's a total of over $400 in fees for a $424.50 flight! This is after I'm transferred numerous times and hung up on when I give my reason to call as booking a flight using a flight credit.
I speak with a rep I could hardly understand who could not find my account at first, then once she does she tells me they didn't have any flights available for any of the dates I chose. After selecting 3 different dates that were unavailable I asked her what dates are available and she tells me they can't look and see that information. So I asked how am I supposed to book a flight if everything I select is not available and you don't know, she tells me I'm sorry. So I ask to speak with a supervisor or manager and he puts me on hold for a long time, comes back and goes back and forth with me about how there aren't any special flights available. I asked, so why is it a special flight, he couldn't explain.
I advised him that I was on their website as we were speaking and saw numerous flights available for $291. He then puts me on hold again, comes back and says that he can book the flight that I originally requested but there would be a charge of $41.17. I'm exhausted and stressed by now, so I just go ahead and agree since it's better than paying another $200-400 for an entirely new reservation. He then gives me a confirmation and tells me to look it up with Delta. I explain to them that I need a confirmation email from them because they are the ones charging me, not Delta. The Hotwire rep tells me they can't do so, and as I'm speaking with them I go online to look at my credit card transaction to see what they've done and that's where I discover the extra $200!
So I am on the phone disputing this with them and the rep offers to credit me back the charge. This didn't solve anything and wasted hours of my time. I have now lost over $400 because the remaining credit isn't worth booking anything with them. I'm so upset right now, but I had to make it my business and time to inform you all to never purchase any trip or insurance with them because it's a waste of money and who knows if you have to cancel what you'll have to go through. They have lost a frequent customer.

When I arrive the hotel was not in the City I requested, it was not a Hyatt, Hilton nor Sheraton but rather a mom and pop rundown hotel with NO elevator. The name of the hotel is Hotel Luisiana.
I was not able to stay there because they only offered two single room in the third floor. They would not accommodate us no matter what I said and since the room did not hold the number of travelers and my 84-year-old mom needs an elevator, I decided to call Hotwire from the hotel to no avail, got hung up three times. I had to make last minute reservation at a much much more expensive rate at another Hotel. I’ve called and email Hotwire to no avail, they said it's final and basically it's too bad. My girlfriend placed a reservation for a rental car through Hotwire with Dollar Rent A Car and received an Itinerary number which is Hotwire's equivalent of a confirmation number. During the reservation process (done online), Hotwire required she give her debit card number and security code in order to make the reservation. She provided the information, received her itinerary number and was promptly hit with the rental fee plus an additional charge for damage insurance totaling approximately $85.00. I then took her to the Dollar Rent A Car depot to pick up her vehicle she had already paid for through Hotwire.
For reasons not clearly explained, Dollar Rent A Car would not honor the reservation supposedly made by Hotwire even though she had confirmation of a reservation and a printed receipt showing payment. Since the payment had not been made to Dollar Rent A Car directly, there was little issue she could take up with Dollar. She then had to make an entirely new reservation and submit payment directly to Dollar Rent A Car in order to secure a vehicle. She has since contacted Hotwire customer service (once in writing with copies of receipts and at least a half dozen times by phone) requesting that her ~ $85.00 she paid be refunded since their reservation proved to be worthless and no service had been provided, but all she gets is the familiar "Sorry you had a bad experience" run around or insane hold times... and never a satisfactory answer.
I've seen other complaints where this company has missed making reservations at hotels and what not which seems to be the normal result when dealing with this sub-standard organization, but in her case, they removed funds from her account for services that were not given and THIS equals nothing short of outright theft. She provided her information and their ability to access these funds in good faith that their end of the transaction would be upheld. It was not... and they have no right to retain the fee she paid them.
BE WARNED PEOPLE!!!! Do NOT give this company a chance to complicate your business trip, ruin your holiday/vacation, or flat out STEAL your hard earned money as we have found they routinely do without conscience. If booking a trip, reserving a hotel, reserving a rental car, or shopping any other similar type service from a discount web broker... let Captain Kirk or any other trustworthy web broker compete for your business, but save yourself certain misery and avoid HOTWIRE like the plague!

On the same screen that you review the order you can input payment info while viewing the total and your trip summary. All was fine, I inputted my credit card info, make sure the itinerary and price was right and pressed BOOK. First man, Tim I spoke to was very rude. Repeated and argued with me 10 times saying that the website is designed to be error free (come on realistically no form of technology is error free). I asked numerous times to speak to a supervisor and he kept arguing that they cant do anything their system is never wrong etc. I had to insist with a firm voice. Finally he agreed to transfer me, instead he hung up. So I called back, to speak to a supervisor. Who might I add was even more rude and useless than the first guy. They insisted I needed a print screen as proof of the error as they never heard of this happening before. Obviously as everyone knows you cannot go back into a screen that had confidential payment info on it, so unrealistic.
He continued to argue, repeating the same things Tim did. I asked to speak with someone else. He stated he was the only supervisor, which I later found to be a lie. I called back, the next lady repeated the same info. Basically they all said I was lying and that their website is perfect and error free and there was no possible way this mistake could have been made. I really just wanted a 3.5 star and an adjustment in the price, but nobody helped at all. They actually fully argued. I sent a private msg to the facebook page, no response. I emailed their customer service review centre. They literally just said "we are sorry you had a bad experience, we hope to make your future experiences better". WOW that was helpful! What a cheap company, not one person offered a price adjustment to a very unhappy customer.
I am writing here so everyone knows that if you ever have any issues after you book do not expect Hotwire to budge. They are rude and arrogant, poor customer service skills. They do not care about having committed customer service which overall means they do not care about customer retention. SO they will not help you EVER!. Did you know that Hotwire can call you at 1:49 PM on the day of your reservation and say the hotel you booked is full and you're out of luck?
Earlier this week I booked two rooms in Vancouver BC at a 4-star hotel. The hotel I selected was in the Burnaby area, close to where I had a customer meeting the following day. At 1:49 PM, shortly before I was due to check into the hotel, I received a voice mail from Hotwire Customer Service, informing me that the hotel I had reserved and paid for in advance no longer had a room. He said that I needed to contact Hotwire if I wanted to book an alternate hotel or get a refund. Did you know that Hotwire's Customer Service processes are cumbersome, time consuming and ineffective?
When I reached an agent, she said that they could see if another hotel might be available. The first alternate hotel she found cost more money, and she said Hotwire would cover the cost difference. However, she said that she had to do something with Hotwire HotDollars, and could I please be put on hold. Ten minutes later (I kid you not, because my cell phone indicates the duration of the call) she finally came back and asked for my credit card information. I asked her why she needed it, since I had already paid for two rooms. She insisted that she needed to charge my card again, so I gave her the information. Then, when she went to book the rooms, they weren't available.
So we started again, and she found two rooms at the Westin Bayshore at standard pricing, and again said that Hotwire would cover the difference. She said that she would have to put me on hold again to take care of the HotDollars needed. Five minutes later she came back, got my credit card information again, and GUESS WHAT? The rooms at the Westin were no longer available.
She then said that nothing else was available. I insisted that there must be something available further out, so she eventually found a 3.5 star hotel in Surrey. By now, I had been on the call 35 minutes, and I desperately needed to call my colleague so that he didn't show up at the original hotel looking for a room that didn't exist. I asked the agent to quickly conclude the call, and I told her that I was very upset about the customer service exhibited by Hotwire. She offered to deposit 50 HotDollars in my account, and I told her that I didn't even care about the HotDollars, as I needed to get off the phone and call my colleague.
Sadly, the Customer Service Supervisor wasn't much better. Later, I called Hotwire Customer Service back. I requested a Supervisor and explained my experience. I posed questions such as: Why was a booked reservation paid for in advance not valid only hours before check-in? Why didn't Hotwire secure other rooms in Vancouver before calling me, instead of putting me through 35 minutes of torture and 2 thwarted attempts to book another hotel. Maybe a process that requires 10 minutes to get HotDollars approved isn't good when hotel rooms are scarce and rooms disappear in that time frame. Why did I need to keep giving the agent my credit card number? Why was I paying the same for a 3.5 star hotel as I originally paid for a 4-star hotel that was 3 times farther away from my business meeting location?
The net result was that the Supervisor offered me a whopping 25 HotDollars for my trouble. What an insult! That's less than a dollar a minute for the first call to Hotwire, much less the time and trouble I took to bring this to his attention. My lasting impression is that Hotwire doesn't want to examine customer service issues, or improve processes. All they want to do is try to buy off dissatisfied customers with a dollar amount that is insulting. It's especially interesting in comparison to the $818.90 in HotDollars they would have spent when the agent thought when comparable hotels were available for booking.
I also tried emailing with Hotwire Customer Service, and the responses I got were boilerplate and impersonal. Each email said over-bookings do occur in the hotel industry and are not unique to Hotwire customers. They also said they looked forward to serving me in the future, which clearly shows that they don't think their service was that bad. I'm still shaking my head. All of this is especially crushing when I have been a loyal customer and vocal advocate of Hotwire with friends and on social media. I don't ever plan to use Hotwire again.

Hotwire takes pride in having the lowest rates and if I can find a cheaper deal within 48 hours they will return the difference. So right after booking the secret hotel, with 100% customer satisfaction (!) we found a site that a) had a cheaper rate b) that included breakfast (there is 4 of us so we will have to add an extra 100 dollar on the price) and c) had really bad reviews out of 4500 reviews (on Trivago).
So I e-mailed my complaint and also print screen of the price. I received an e-mail that I had to call in which I did. They refused to refund - they could not find cheaper rates. I still could but it did not matter. I asked if they had a look at my print screen and I was asked to fax it in. When I asked why e-mail would not do she said she had no e-mail address only fax number... (???) I don't have a fax (who does?) so I tried the support e-mail address again. Again, they did not comment on the print screen, the breakfast or the bad rates, only sent a standard e-mail that I no right to get a re-fund. I asked again if they could comment on my print screen. I have after received 2 more standard replies so I wrote this review. I hope it counts for something.

I booked for the Hilton Back Bay, in Boston about 7 months ago. I am getting ready for my trip and was wanting to double check the reservation online. I used the confirmation code provided by Hotwire (whom I booked through). However the confirmation number was wrong. It had too many digits to fix. I called the international line for Hilton, and they couldn't figure out who I was from the security clearance, though I provided all the information I had. I finally had to make a long distance call from Malaysia where I live, to Boston to the hotel directly. They were able to find me on the computer by name, but not by confirmation number. Hotwire is messed up. I don't trust it now. They provided a bizarre confirmation code that the hotel could not recognize. When you're buying things online and a company like Hotwire messes up, it's a bit scary. I will never use Hotwire again. Something is terribly fishy.

I booked a vacation package that included airfare, hotel, and rental car. My flight and rental car were just as expected, but our hotel portion was a huge disappointment. We booked a 3-bedroom townhouse for 8 nights at the Regal Palm Resort and Spa in Davenport, FL. The resort was rated 3 1/2 stars and the pictures looked clean, chic, and had a great swimming area for the kids, but when we checked in, things were completely different. The first unit that we were given was so gross. The carpet was filthy. The blinds were messed up. The ceiling fans had so much dust build up. Everything was outdated, and the lamp shades were even crooked. There was no way I was letting my 7 month old crawl around here. This was by far, the worst hotel condition that we've ever encountered, so we asked for a another unit.
The 2nd unit was just as bad. The carpet wasn't as bad, but there was plenty to make up for it. All of the dressers had broken drawers in each room. It was very dusty and the worst part was when I found 2 large stains in the center of one of the comforters. They ended up being dry, but I found that to be utterly disgusting. I immediately went to the front desk, told the clerk we couldn't stay because of the conditions, and requested a refund for our cleaning and daily resort fees equaling about $179. She gave me a refund, but said I'd have to call reservations the next day about my full refund for the length of my stay, which is nearly $700.
I called Hotwire as soon as we left the resort around 1 am and explained the situation. The agent took notes and said they would call the hotel and request a refund between the hotel reservation hours of 8 am and 8 pm. The next day I waited for a phone call, but received none so I called again and explained the situation AGAIN. The 2nd agent have me the same lines, "We'll call between 8am and 8pm." Long story short, I called Hotwire in total 5 or 6 times (once per day), spoke to 2 supervisors, and called and left my name and number for the hotel supervisor. I got no response. Hotwire never called. The hotel supervisor never called.
Today I received an email stating that the hotel would not give me a full refund with no explanation why. I am so frustrated and infuriated. I wasted hours on the phone during my vacation to resolve this issue just to get no resolution. Hotwire's customer service is terrible. There are no actions in their words. At one point 1 of the supervisors had said that my case had not been handled yet because it wasn't my turn in the queue yet. Unreal!! I felt like I was having the same conversation over and over. I believe I am entitled to a full refund. We did not stay at the hotel for reasons out of our control. The resort charges a cleaning fee and daily resort fee in addition to the daily rate, but for what? The units were disgusting. I would not recommend Hotwire at all, nor would I ever book with them again. Terrible customer service!!

I was told to send a "request for reversal" and they would get back to me within 5-7 days. I faxed to the appropriate number provided by the rather rude customer service rep. I did what was required, have heard nothing, am sending a copy of the request and a copy of the physician's restriction of travel to my credit card company to not honor the payment that they AUTOMATICALLY put in when you make the reservation. I was able to obtain a different car rental thru a very reputable firm at lower the price for a better car after my husband's restriction is over. I booked and paid for a 3.5-star hotel in OKC. I am a frequent user of Hotwire and am aware of the star ratings and how to get decent hotels. I called the hotel I was booked to advise them I would be arriving after midnight due to a delayed flight. They informed me the water was out and they had no A/C. I called Hotwire to tell them about the issues and request a different hotel. I was told the A/C is considered an amenity (in OKC in August with over 100 degree weather). Thankfully (?) the water was out too and I could get a refund and rebook. I told the Hotwire agent I would be arriving after midnight and I was boarding my airplane so I had to hurry to get off the phone. So I rebooked with the La Quinta on the opposite side of town for $25 more and the agent told me there would not be a problem with my arrival time. HA... I get to the La Quinta at 2 am and my prepaid hotel reservation is canceled. Too bad. Called Hotwire back again who refunded my money again (or they will in a couple days so they are currently holding $560 for my original 2 reservations plus the new one). But they could not book me in a room for right now. What happened to the room I had paid for??? I paid double for a room tonight with the La Quinta clerk who could not honor the rate.

Is not even in the area you ask for - is just nearby. SO IS JUST A LIE AFTER A LIE!!!! I called. I was planning a trip to Portland ME and was looking for decent deals for hotels. Typically I use Priceline and have always had my expectations exceeded. I notice a few deals on Hotwire that seemed decent in the area I was looking to stay and decided to give them a try. BIG MISTAKE. Hotwire leads you to believe, through their examples of star rated hotels (3 star = Doubletree, Sheraton, Hilton, Wyndham....etc). That you will be getting a high quality hotel. I submitted for the "secret deal" for the 3 star hotel and found out the secret....You are given a 1-2 star hotel at best. Instead of any of the numerous examples that Hotwire gives as their examples of 3 star hotels, we were booked at a Howard Johnson's.
The hotel had small rooms that had a closet added on that half blocked the light switch. Metal plates were added onto the doors for locks with the philips head part of the screw that held the plates on facing out into the hallway. The "bedspreads" were two flat sheets with a dollar store blanket in between. The sink was outside the bathroom right next to the door where you come in. The AC unit was old and rickety making lots of noise. The hotel itself had one small....3/4 person elevator if you didn't have luggage, 2 if you did. So we were left to take the stairs up three flights for the most part. The hotel was located right across from a strip club and the area was sketchy. It was a far cry from any hotel that Hotwire led you to believe you would be getting. I sent an email to hotwire explaining my frustrations and in turn they felt that explaining to me why they thought the Howard Johnson was a three star hotel. That was their answer.
They requested in the email that I call to discuss options. So I spent some of my vacation time on the phone and in return I was able to hear someone tell me over the phone why this hotel was considered a three star hotel by Hotwire. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of the hotel. It is only based on the fact that Hotwire says so and that's what you get. They are unethical and misleading in their business practices and are unwilling to compensate when they are found to be wrong. I will not deal with Hotwire again and encourage others to use Priceline instead.

I booked a four-star hotel for 4 guests in Prague for three nights. The hotel has D excellent ratings and we were thrilled. After paying, I was informed the hotel name and began my typical pre-arrival due diligence. The hotel looked awesome. Single double and triple rooms were consistent with four stars in my opinion. However, I soon discovered that this hotel only has quad rooms with bunk beds. Very hostel looking as I also found out the hotel is also a hostel. I was stunned to find out that we paid for a four-star room where we would need to climb a ladder to go to bed a night. Never would I climb a ladder to bed in a four star hotel. When I called to complain, Hotwire recited a script over and over, never giving me any reasonable resolution. After several calls and over two hours, Hotwire admitted that this was a little unusual and they would try to work something out with the hotel. The solution was to pay an additional 75 euros for two double rooms instead of the quad. I respect that the hotel is a four star facility, but in no way, shape or form are bunk beds part of a four-star accommodation. Hotwire should never have accepted dramatically inferior quad inventory for an otherwise good hotel facility. I should never have to climb a ladder to a bunk bed in a four-star hotel and having to pay 75 euros additional is not acceptable resolution.

I booked a room through Hotwire last minute and received a booking at the DoubleTree in Bedford, MA. I was beyond satisfied with the value for the booking. The next night though, I received an email saying that the DoubleTree was overbooked and would be moving me across the street to the Homewood Suites. The next morning, I received an email confirming my booking at the DoubleTree and in the sidebar of the email, there was a confirmation number for the hotel and a note that I would not need to reconfirm with Hotwire or the hotel.
Ignoring the note, I called Hotwire to confirm which hotel I was staying at, and they told me that I was to be at the Homewood Suites. I called the Homewood Suites to confirm my room and they told me that I did in fact have a room... I even had TWO rooms. One room was in my name, the other had a man's name, whom I had never heard of, attached. I called Hotwire back after this phone call to confirm that I had only booked one room and to see why there were two and one with a stranger's name attached. I was given no answers, but the customer service rep put me on hold to call the DoubleTree and confirm that I WAS moved to the Homewood Suites. After hanging up with her, I called the DoubleTree myself to check and they had NO record of my original booking let alone that I was being transferred to the Homewood Suites. I called the Homewood Suites back with this information and they reassured me that they would work it out and I would have my room.
When I showed up at the Homewood Suites, nothing had been clarified and to push the issue even further, my reservation was not showing up as a prepaid reservation, although my bank account had already been debited. The assistant manager called DoubleTree, again confirming that they had no idea who I was, and then had me call Hotwire. While I was on hold, Hotwire called the hotel and spoke with the assistant manager, telling him that the reservations were actually done through ANOTHER party in Florida who had the money and would need to transfer it. After they hung up, he told me that she was calling the third party involved. When the customer service rep got back on the phone with me, she told me that she apologized for the hold up, but she was still on hold with the Homewood Suites. I said, "No, you're not. I'm sitting right here with the man you were just speaking to." She stuttered and said that she was actually on the telephone with the 3rd party.
Once it was all ironed out, I could not BELIEVE how shady Hotwire is. Basically what happened was that they turned my reservation over to this 3rd party who tried to book me at the DoubleTree. When the DoubleTree wasn't available, the 3rd party, NOT the DoubleTree, booked me at Homewood Suites. The confirmation number I was given for the DoubleTree wasn't even a confirmation number that is associated with that chain of hotels. UNREAL!
The same thing happened to the other gentleman's reservation, who I found out showed up at the DoubleTree, who thankfully knew about the situation since we had called them several times. I will never book with Hotwire again. Even if the price is a deal, I'd rather suck up the extra cost and NOT deal with this craziness ever again.

Attempted calls 1, 2 and 3. Keep in mind, Hotwire Flights and Hotwire Vacations are two different customer service numbers so if you call the wrong one, then you have to go through a chain of 2-3 people to get to the right person. You have to go through same mundane prompts with each one (name, phone #, itinerary, etc.) and be put on hold.
I was able to get "flight credit" for Virgin flights (positive) however the service representative who helped me said there were no Virgin flights available and said I could only apply my credit to Virgin flights and said my flight credit is with Virgin. I finally got someone to connect me with their "Help Desk" to apply my flight credit and they disconnected me. SO AGGRAVATING! Now I've been on this call again for 30 additional minutes and the guy at "Help Desk" is saying I can't apply my credit because the original flights were booked under some other rate/deal that is different than the flights I want.
"How can I figured out which flights I qualify for then?" He said "you can't". I'm on hold now and I have no idea what he's doing but I think he's trying to figure it out....THIS IS INSANE!!!! I have used Priceline successfully many times and have stayed at some very nice hotels for some really great prices. I am currently staying in my first and last Hotwire room. It was advertised as a 2 and a half star hotel; in reality, it is an old-style motel with exterior doors on every room, which means that unless you are willing to expose yourself and your belongings to every person who walks by, you will be staying in a cave with artificial light.
The room itself, while clean and updated, is about 100 square feet smaller than a "standard" room in the same hotel; this block of smaller rooms, located at the top of the stairs (there is no elevator), is no doubt reserved for Hotwire guests. The worst thing about it all is that I didn't save a single dime by booking through Hotwire. I could have booked a standard (i.e. larger) room in this same hotel for the same price I paid through Hotwire by booking directly on the hotel's website using an AARP discount. I did one of those "book a 3-star hotel for this low price and we will reveal the hotel at the end" deals. Well of course we got the crappiest hotel in the 3-star categories. Honestly, I don't know how this hotel is 3 stars. I know this because unfortunately my family and I stayed there once before and said we would not stay there again.
After it revealed our hotel, I called Hotwire to tell them that we had a bad experience at that hotel in the past and asked them if we could get any of the other hotels listed as "possible" options. They told me that none of the other hotels listed are options at this time. I asked them if there was anything else that can be done and they said no. I then asked why you list all these hotels as "possibilities" but none are options and he told me, "Like it says on our website, these hotels are just examples." I said, "So you guys are trying to con people into this deal by showing them all these great hotel options, but really none of them are really even an option", and he pretty much said yes.
I am so sick by Hotwire's misleading information to get your money. In the end, they were not willing to help me at all and so now we are stuck with a hotel that has mold, drunken homeless people walking around outside, parking spaces so small that your car leaves with dings it never had when you got there, and stained carpet that you are afraid to walk on without shoes. The Priceline hotels were great hotels and great rates. The Hotwire Hotels were inferior to the majority of hotels with the same star rating. Also the Microtel we stayed at is not comparable to other 21/2 star hotels, and the discount was only a couple of dollars below a standard rate. The biggest beef was a three star with Hotwire. We searched for a hotel, suspended our search for about 30 mins, then completed the reservation. Hotwire did not provide any service, as the rates of the hotel were available throughout the Internet on various travel sites. I was told (June 26, 2014) online that once I paid $111.78 for my hotel room, I would receive a confirmation once my reservation is confirmed with the hotel. I did receive confirmation of my room being booked but upon arrival to the hotel on June 28, 2014, the hotel stated that they never received my information from Hotwire. After two hours of going back and forth from speaking with the hotel's staff and Hotwire's customer service agents, we were finally able to get a room.
Upon checkout, I received a receipt from the hotel stating the amount Hotwire was charged from the hotel was $83.15. I immediately called Hotwire (spoke with William - agent # **) to see about issuing a refund but the agent stated that he can only issue a Hotwire Credit to my Hotwire account (store credit). Nowhere on their website does it state when I booked the room that if there is an error on Hotwire's part that they will only issue store credit for my next booking. Hotwire is holding my money hostage and I refuse to use their services again! I called Hotwire with good faith hoping that they would respond with a good faith effort (considering that my hotel was NOT confirmed as promised and nowhere does it state that I would only receive a credit in the disclosure before booking) but the agent stated there was nothing more that he could do.

I booked a flight on Hotwire using my mother's card. Despite ensuring that the passenger info was filled out with my name, Hotwire auto-printed my mother's name as the passenger on the ticket. When I called Hotwire to remedy the situation, they proved unwilling to change the passenger name on the flight or refund the purchase. As a result, I was unable to attend a business meeting and my family is out hundreds of dollars. If a Hotwire representative sees this review, I would greatly appreciate a call as my other call proved ineffectual.

I made a reservation for an auto rental using Hotwire.com on April 19, 2014 for six days, and was offered a Hertz car for $234.81. I was supposed to pick up the car on June 28 in Pittsburgh and return on July 3, 2014. Upon arrival in Pittsburgh on June 27, I tried to find a car near my nephew's place, where I was staying. I used Hotwire.com and entered the local address. I was offered Alamo's car for $191.36. I made the reservation, and went on my Hotwire account to cancel the earlier reservation. It did not allow me to do so. I called Hotwire and requested them to cancel either one of the two, and they refused. I will end up paying for both auto rentals when I can use only one. This could have been avoided if Hotwire did not allow me to have two non-refundable reservations for the same date and time. A simple algorithm can prevent something like this to happen.

I went online to find a hotel. The Econo Lodge popped up Hotwire, looked okay, booked. Twenty minutes later, I was at the hotel only to find that they only had a smoking room available. Nowhere in the form was a request for smoking. By now, North America is default no smoking. Not according to Hotwire. They have access to what hotels have, they say, but if anything goes wrong, they have your money and they will fight to say anything to keep your money. The hotel staff just laughed at me. "We got your money." The hotel gets it no matter what, so they don't care either.
I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Hotwire. No, they don't care about anything but getting your money no matter what. I've notice more and more of this kind of behavior with corporations. Like a firewall against responsibility. Book direct with the hotel staff. Forget the 800 number. Get the front desk of someone at the hotel. I have had Expedia try to charge way more than what I got going direct to the desk. And any special requests to any of these predatory operations won't be passed on, either. Forget service. Misleading booking advertisement. We booked a hotel with Hotwire, which stated a 68% savings (ex: $220 hotel room for $70). After speaking with a Hotwire representative, she stated that the $220 advertised room was a "median" estimated value. When visiting the actual hotel site, one could book our first night stay for $74.99, and the second night for $109.99. We did NOT receive a median hotel rate. Although we have been regular Hotwire customers for years by making car, hotel, and airfare bookings, this misleading advertisement causes us to reassess this site for future purchases. Our hotel booking is to celebrate our anniversary, but it is now overshadowed by a cloud of dissolution, due to the "locked in" policy.

I took advantage of a "great" deal for a NYC hotel room for 3 nights. It was so great that it was a "Mystery" deal. Because it was so great they couldn't give me all the details. From 4/12-15/2014. I never used Hotwire before but assumed that they had a good reputation. The hotel cost me almost $800 and it was an old hotel and the room was smaller than any cell in Vietnam during the war there. The bed was lumpy and the carpets were all worn and threadbare.
The deal was that it was final and no cancellations or changes. I went down to the front desk and complained and was told that there were no other rooms available and that because it was done through a 3rd party there was nothing I could do. I didn't call Hotwire because of their conditions and would contact them when I got back to FL. They denied all responsibility and told me that I should have called them. I went online and discovered how many complaints there were against Hotwire who had offered me $25 for compensation. I told them what to do with their offer.
I added my complaint to the long list of complaints and contacted BBB which ended in their closing the case. BBB should be ashamed of themselves for being paid off by Hotwire because there could be no other explanation. They should be given a "F" rating, not an "A+" if they took the time to read the complaints. Hotwire doesn't lose. Customers like myself lose. I tell everyone I meet not to ever deal with Hotwire or Expedia which owns Hotwire. I wrote to the CEO of Expedia and surprise, surprise, never got a response. Take heed and beware.

The promotion was for a different date, and I didn't realize until confirming the order. I called within seconds of realizing it, but customer service told me there was nothing they would do - not change the date, much less refund me $562.90. We didn't realize that the booking was not able to be revised. Reason for our trip was to visit a sick family member. The individual got sicker and we needed to revise the timing of our trip. We called Hotwire and Hertz, the rental company involved, to simply add a few days of car rental to the rental we already had and neither company offered any options. We booked Hertz for the extra days and then tried to arrange to not have to return the car mid trip. Answer, only if we paid an extra $180!. I already paid for the extra three days and this was in addition to that. No one helped, no one was sympathetic. My wife drove 100 miles back to the airport to change the car mid trip. For an identical car. I called three times to ask about revising the booking and each time I was cut off when the agent said they couldn't help and i asked to be put through to their supervisor! Wow! So.... I will not ever book with Hotwire or Hertz. I talked to too many people at both companies who had no interest in client service or making this right. One person suggested I send in the death certificate, this before the actual death! At that point, I determined both companies had lost a client forever. So, not a happy customer, to say the least.

"Hotdeal" means you purchase a hotel based on a star rating and a location without knowing which hotel you will be staying at. Upon purchase, they awarded me Astor on the Park. This hotel was barely a 1-star hotel. The carpet was damp and dirty, the smell was unbearable, and it was the most disgusting hotel room I have ever stayed in. On top of that, I asked others staying at the hotel and they told me they paid $70-100 less for their hotel. I wrote them an e-mail complaining but they told me I had to call customer service. This is after the hotel already warned me that I could expect to encounter noise during my stay. William, the supervisor at Hotwire, was uncompromising on this. Buyer beware that when you book with Hotwire you have no idea what you're getting until you've actually used the services that you're paying for.
The service you've paid for may give you advance warning only after calling them but don't expect Hotwire to give you this info and don't expect Hotwire to accommodate you in a satisfactory way if you are unsatisfied. I am still arguing with Hotwire over them booking my room for the wrong month even though they admit I gave them the correct date and month I wanted to the person I talked with to set it up. They put in the wrong month and then talked very quickly at the end of the conversation to confirm the information and since they were talking quickly and with an accent I only understood the dates were correct and did not catch that the month was wrong. They want me to pay for THEIR mistake in putting it in wrong in the first place. I was even willing for us to split the cost of the error since I feel it was both our faults instead of them wanting me to pay for the full bill and it was due to an error on their part that started the situation.
They say they have reviewed our conversation tape and agree I said the correct dates and month I wanted in the beginning of the conversation but since the operator put it in wrong and I did not catch it during the speed reading review she did at the end, it is my fault and I am the only one that has to pay for the mistake. I thought asking for us to each split the cost was reasonable since we BOTH made the mistake, her putting it in wrong and me not catching it at the end, but they will not meet me half way. They are taking the attitude any mistake that comes up is your fault and yours alone. I highly recommend never using them.

Here's what I sent to Agnes: "You're not telling me anything that I did not already know... Did you not read my mailing? I had just made the reservation (w/ full intent to return to PIT the following week, to pick-up the car and then use it for 3 weeks); HOWEVER, MY EMPLOYER called me shortly after I had made my reservation, and he stated that he had an 'emergency situation' that I needed to attend to (in Texas); therefore, I could not simply going back to PIT the following week...
I knew that it would take about one week to resolve the situation and that I (w/ full intent) would be obtaining the car (but, in this case, just one week later than I had originally planned)... A very unusual situation - WHICH CONTAINED CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL - but one that could have been easily addressed if Hotwire had just simply been a little more flexible w/ their "policy"...
Alamo tried to do what they could, HOWEVER, their policy is to not hold a car for more than 24 hours after the reservation pickup date... I told them just to sit the car aside for a week and I would only use it for 2 weeks rather than 3 (which I paid for)... They refused to do that.. They (like Hotwire) would not move away from their 'empty-headed policy'....
In the end, Hotwire received my $640 and Alamo may have received part of that $640... Me? I received NOTHING for my $640... NOTHING AT ALL... Your current policy amounts to nothing but theft in my opinion and definitely the receiving of money for services not rendered... Please be advised that while I've attempted to handle this issue in a straight-forward and professional manner, it appears Hotwire is going to stick to their brainless and totally inflexible policy (no matter what)... Therefore, you leave me little recourse... I am contacting my lawyer this afternoon and I believe I'll be seeing you (Hotwire's representatives) in court...
Florida does not look kindly on businesses that take money for services not rendered and instead 'hide behind 'policy'... You will be paying me much more than the $640, I can assure you (and much more in court costs)... In the meantime, I intend to tell my business contacts about this situation w/ Hotwire and I also intend to share this situation w/ my contacts in "LinkedIn"... I also intend to let my local news outlets know about 'Hotwire's Services' as well... They have a consumer advocacy group and reporter... Hotwire will not 'look good' after all of this, I can assure you..
By the way, Agnes; your 'member services group' is, what Mr. Clark Howard says it is... It is not providing any service at all... It's member 'non-service'... You apparently exist just to cover Hotwire's butts w/ the full intent of NOT providing any real service to your customers... I honestly don't know how you can all look at yourselves in the mirror each morning, knowing full well what you'll be doing 'to your 'customers' that day... 'Covering Hotwire's butts' just doesn't seem to be that fulfilling of a job to me... It really doesn't..."

I agreed to that fee and then proceeded to the end of the order only to find a category entitled "Tax recovery charges and fees". There was a $54.88 additional fee that I was not expecting for taxes and fees. I understand we have to pay tax, but that is 30%! Against my better judgement, I went ahead and booked anyway. I ended up getting The Marriott at Sawgrass.
The next day that extra fee was bothering me, so I called Marriott. I asked for a price for the same type of room on the same night (July 5th) and they told me the price was $199. They said there would be an additional $22 resort fee and that hotel taxes were exactly 10%. The grand total would be $243.10 for booking with the Marriott directly. Since this was less than the price I will end up paying and Hotwire guarantees the lowest price, I called Hotwire.com. I spoke with a woman named Kendra. She informed me that she was not able to tell me exactly what the $54.88 was for! I was outraged!
How can you charge a fee and not disclose what it covers!? I know the hotel taxes are only 10% and the service fee was not included because I still have to pay that. By the time it is all said and done, I will end up paying $13.78 more than if I would have booked with the hotel directly. Since the hotel taxes are only 10%, I should have only had to pay $200.20 plus the resort fee. What is the additional $33.78 for Hotwire??? Why do you charge your customers fees that they are not allowed to get additional information about? Even the examples of hotels they say are similar to this hotel are misleading as they are all properties within what I would consider the loop and in close proximity to the theater district. I called them to complain but was told that the hotel was within their map area so I had no recourse. We have used Hotwire before and been extremely satisfied. I will never use them again or recommend them to someone.

I reserved and prepaid a three-day rental with Hertz in Puerto Vallarta and received e-mail confirmation of my reservation and payment, with a Hertz confirmation number. Unfortunately, Hotwire does not go to the trouble of checking with Hertz in Mexico (according to the Hertz representative, my case was not at all uncommon) to make sure that cars are available. Indeed, on a Saturday evening in high season, I arrived at the Hertz counter with a confirmed reservation, but there was simply no car to be had. After several attempts to break through Hotwire's unresponsive Customer Service line, I was able to explain my situation, only to be offered a rental with another agency at over twice the rate!
When I tried to get my case escalated, my call was disconnected. I called back and worked my way back into the system. I was able to get the agent to agree to refund my money, which was some consolation, although my evening was shot and I was left without transportation. Ironically, as I was leaving Hertz, a car came in unexpectedly (by that time, I had been at the counter for nearly three hours). The Hertz rep suggested that I call Hotwire back to reverse the refund, but Hotwire's line performed so badly that I was unable to get through. I leave it to my readers to guess how likely it is that I use Hotwire to rent a car in Mexico again!

After disputing the unused car rental reservation with my bank, they refused to refund my money and said that I agreed to the terms that if it wasn't an emergency, there would be no way to get your money back! This is outrageous!!! The agent double booked a reservation and instead of refunding me the unused booking, continued to double charge me. Why on earth would anyone want to pay for two cars on the same date??? As a paying customer and as fair business practice, you should be able to get your full refund back! Thanks, Hotwire, for ruining my vacation! Hotwire should be put out of business!!! Stay away from booking with Hotwire!!! Also, I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

So I contacted Hotwire for sending a bill. The Hotwire staff informed me, that I cannot expect to get any bill but instead should use the automatically generated booking confirmation. This doc is not accepted by my bookkeeping dept neither by German tax authorities. The Hotwire service reacted really poor and answered several times in the same way, obviously without reading my message. I cannot recommend this organization for business travel.

I immediately notified Hotwire that Alamo would not accept our debit card. Hotwire refused to reply, and still will not respond. We have filed a complaint at our bank, and have been notified by our bank that they deal with a lot of Hotwire issues as they scam people, and it could take 60 to 90 days to recoup our money as is typical of Hotwire. I just booked a hotel in FL for three nights. There were only four hotels at this exit, so I checked rates, then booked three nights with Hotwire for $60/night, which I thought was a good deal. Then I discovered that the "low, low rate" of $60 was actually the STANDARD rate for this hotel. Add to that, that of the four hotels, this was, by far, the most run-down, filthiest mess. But even the poor woman at the desk apologized, saying that Hotwire charges them 40% (!) and that they are REQUIRED to use them.
I tried to resolve this with Hotwire, but they acted like robots, spouting, "All reservations are final." Really? In my world, there is always room for black and white, and as far as customer service, in my world, the customer has rights. The bottom line? FALSE ADVERTISING. I am actually paying more for this room than I would have been willing to (actually, NO price would have been attractive). I have used Hotwire in the past with success, but this is the final time. I booked a "hot rate" room on Hotwire quoted at a total $209 (including all taxes and fees). Then, the confirmation page and subsequent confirmation email indicated a total cost of $270, apparently charging me the standard rate instead of the discounted "hot rate". Knowing I was booking blind on the "hot rate", I was toggling browser tabs between the "hot rate" screen and the standard rate screen to try to get a sense for which hotel I may be booking. Perhaps this is why the Hotwire system messed up and charged me the higher $270 rate.
That said I know for certain that I booked it on the "hot rate" screen which asked me for final confirmation of the $209 charge. (I never was on the standard rate booking page). I spent about an hour on the phone with the Hotwire customer care people who were decidedly unhelpful and dismissive, repeating the same "all bookings are final and we're unable to give refunds" line over and over and unwilling to acknowledge their system error or to examine even the possibility of the error on their side. If anyone knows whom I can contact to report this, to get a proper response, and to get back my over-charged $60, please let me know.

I order a hotel in NYC for November 4th through November 11th, 2013. Three hours after we had a check-in to the hotel, I received a phone call from a Fraud Department. The person calling did NOT introduce himself, nor did he state what company he was calling from. He mispronounced the name on the order and questioned if I know that person (who turns out is my friend after we figured out the name). Considering I tried several other websites to book a hotel for these dates, I thought he was calling from Priceline and someone tried to commit fraud with our credit card. This person yelled at me saying he is not calling from Priceline, refusing to tell me where he is calling from and accusing me of lying. All confused, I kept trying to clear up what he wanted from me. At which point he abruptly ended the call saying he is cancelling the charge. The next thing we know, a concierge of the hotel we were all situated in, contacts us stating that our payment was cancelled.
I immediately started calling the customer service for Hotwire trying to figure out what happened. The first person I talked to said he can't do anything and that I must contact the fraud department. I call the risk management department and the line goes straight to voicemail (meanwhile the hotel is threatening to kick us out if we don't pay immediately). I left three voicemails for the risk management department and to this day (4 days later) no returned call!!! I tried calling the customer service again and again. At my third attempt, the representative rudely hung up on me when I tried to explain to her that we are being kicked out on the street due to the misunderstanding with the fraud department. All representatives kept telling me there is nothing they can do and there is no way for them to contact the risk management department. "You just have to keep trying," they would say.
We managed to come to an agreement with the hotel that we will pay for the first night we are staying there until our bank sees the money return from our wrongfully cancelled charge. I kept calling back trying to figure out when the money will be returned to the bank, and by the third person I talked to, I was finally told 24-48 hours. A total of 96 hours has elapsed at this point and we have seen no sign of our money and no returned phone call from the risk management department.

I booked a San Diego, CA hotel they presented as their save up to 45% Non Cancelable Secret Hot Rate of $91.12 ($72 + 19.12 tax & fees) which turned out to be a Travelodge. BIG DEAL! The rate for this Reservation directly from the hotel is $92.39 ($82 + 8.39 tax) Cancelable. So I saved $1.27 and lost my cancel privilege and points. Also, Travelodge is hardly in the class of the Comfort Inn, Best Western and Ramada you used in your comparisons.
When I called the Company service line several times I got a run around and transferred to another department which didn't answer or disconnected me. Finally when I got through to the customer service representative, she tried to justify my savings by comparing the base rates which were $10 less with them $74 versus $84. However, when I pointed out they were charging $17.12 tax & charges versus the $8.39 from Travelodge which wiped out her savings, she refused to acknowledge the validity of this final effect. When I proposed to her the absurdity of not counting all charges to arrive at a valid comparison, she hung up on me.
Latter, 2 separate Hotwire representatives sent me Emails asking me to call back their Customer Service to resolve my complaint. This turned out to be another nonsense attempt to justify an unjustifiable position. Actually, they paid Travelodge $63 + 6.30 tax and I suspect they may be pocketing some of the state tax they charge me. In any case, they took a 33% profit on this reservation which I believe is 3x the industry standard.

Please Share!!! BEWARE of HOTWIRE hotel reservations. For those of you who have never used Hotwire to make a reservation with a hotel, let me explain how it works. You select a destination and they give you a general rate on hotels in a star rating system. For example, any hotel in that area with three stars will be one price, and any hotel with four stars will be more, but you are guaranteed a savings because they don't show you the name of the hotel until after you have booked. So you are playing Hotel Roulette. However, you can feel comfortable booking a hotel without knowing the name because of the star rating that they have. I have used this service for years and have scored some pretty amazing deals, but last night was the exception, and the customer service on Hotwire's end to fix the problem was non-existent.
A hotel room was booked under a three star rating. My husband wanted something affordable but nicer than a one or two star hotel. Three stars mean "Extra amenities and clean rooms that will make your stay comfortable." However upon arriving at the "three star" hotel my husband was completely dumbfounded. If you were to give this hotel a star rating, it would be negative stars. The room was absolutely terrible. The lock on the door was broken. The light fixtures were broken and were just hanging on the walls by string to keep them up. All the furniture had terrible stains and looked like it had not been cleaned in years. There was silly string and grimy dirt on all the walls and door. The mirror in the bathroom was broken. The shower tiles were falling off the walls. The smell of the room was so acrid that by morning his lungs hurt. Plumping pipes were sticking up from the carpet near the broken Air Conditioner and the ceiling was caving in. Not only that but the hotel offered the exact same price through their personal website so no money savings at all through Hotwire.
Arriving after 11 o clock at night and driving for over 12 hours sleep was the only thing on my husband's mind so he hunkered down for the night and at first light he was out of there. Now am I upset about the quality of the hotel? Not really, you run into hotels like this but what you see is what you get. I am upset at the portrayal of this hotel through a once trusted site like Hotwire. So, okay, they got it wrong. Maybe they just needed to be informed of the situation, so I called them to let them know. I told them about the hotel and the room and their response was, "Every booking is non-refundable and cannot be changed". Even after telling them that this hotel was no three star hotel, I got the same response. They kept trying to pass the buck off on other site by saying that they get their star rating from what is already posted online by other sites. Okay, so you offer a service but it's not your fault because other people are doing it? Ya okay.
Towards the end of the conversation I was being blamed by Hotwire customer service for not switching rooms. It wasn't like this place had an off chance bad room, the WHOLE place was like this room. It would be like switching sleeping in landfill A because landfill B might have better trash. There was no point. So beware when you book a "star rating hotel", you are playing Hotel Roulette even though they "GUARANTEE" their stars ratings, and if you get scammed into a one-star or no star rating hotel and pay three-star prices their response is, "Oh well. Better luck next time". Well, there will be no next time for me.
Quoting my husband on the quality of Hotwire's "three star hotel" - "If I were to sleep with a prostitute I would be more scared of getting diseases from this hotel than the prostitute." - puts the "three-star rating" in perspective.

My son and I were scheduled to go on a trip. It was suggested by a co-worker that I use Hotwire for my travel arrangements - and I did. Hotwire scheduled us on a flight with Virgin Airlines to Los Angeles from Phila round trip. Prior to the trip my son, who is in the Military, broke his leg at the knee and could not travel. We did all the necessary requirements - including submitting a note from the Military that he was not able to travel at that time. They said we would be able to reschedule within a year and had to have it completed by August 2, 2013.
As I was working to make other arrangements, it occurred to me that I did not know when we would be able to travel as it would take him 9 months to heal. He is fine now. However, I was told we would have to travel by August 2, 2013 - While communicating with both Hotwire and Virgin Air as required, and under the clear impression that I had to travel by August 2 - I was told by someone named Daniel (no last name allowed to be given) from Virgin that I simply had to have the trip booked by August 2, and did not have to have the travel done. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes.
Excitedly, I stopped seeking to book the early trip. Yesterday, July 31, 2013, I tried to book a flight before my deadline for October to go to CA to help my niece after surgery. At that time, I was informed by someone named Sherry from Virgin Airlines that I would have to fly prior to August 2. She seemed rude and non-caring although she was probably just doing her job - but more importantly, they told me there is nothing I could do. If I were to try to book a flight for today and fly back tomorrow??? It would cost me twice as much and traveling right now is not possible for me because I care for my elderly Stroke-stricken mother and my husband who has Kidney Disease. My son is being deployed in December. My plan was to change the tickets to October 14 through 18.
I thought it is worth a try to write to you. I later found out the the rules for Hotwire and Virgin are different. Virgin said we only have to be booked - Hotwire's rules state that we would have to have completed our travel. At this time, that is impossible. I was angry when I was put on hold for over 5 minutes at a time only to be abruptly informed that I have no recourse and laughed at when I implied that I would be seeking out the services of Consumer Affairs. Thank you for your time.

I had booked a 3-star hotel through Hotwire for 4 nights, but I had to leave after one night because of horrible room situation. They never gave my money back. So once I got there, they booked me in a tiny cabin with single size bed. There was no desk and no table; my phone didn't work, and I had to pay for internet. I was able to go to the whole process of trying to reserve the room but after I put my husband's credit card info and was waiting for the confirmation and the hotel name, I got an error code 435. It states, "We are unable to authorize this request. Your credit card had not been charged." I thought it had something to do with our computer and iPads, so I did the request again but still got the error code. Out of curiosity, I checked my husband's online banking and now I have hold for the hotel that Hotwire was unable to authorize even though they said that my credit card will not be charged. I spoke to a Mary, Hotwire rep, and was given a risk management phone number 415-343-8808. Of course, it was a recording and the only thing I could do was leave a message. I also emailed Hotwire. I own my own business and this is just unethical in Hotwire's part.

Their customer service for end users is definitely in need of an upgrade. I understand their hot deals are purchased with no refunds and they unveil the airlines and flights after you purchase. It's a gamble. However, I recently booked a hot deal through them, and before clicking to purchase, there was a "?" mark next to the price they were quoting. When I clicked the "?" mark, it states: “You'll see your exact flight times, number of stops, an airline immediately, once you've booked your reservations. Your flight times are chosen for you, within the time period specified. This is a confirmed ticket and you will not be flying standby.”
Well, needless to say, it was outside of the time period specified. It appears they mean the "date period" specified, not the time period. I now have a useless ticket that I cannot use, and all I received when I contacted them was a letter saying they are sorry and pointing me to their terms and conditions. When I responded to the individual who can nicely repeat a scripted message, I got no additional response for over a week. They have false advertising on their site from what I quoted above, and it is in conflict with their "terms and condition". I will ensure they are contacted by someone who can get a response from them. Buyer beware!

I'd like to make fellow consumers aware of false advertising by Hotwire.com, Hotwire, 655 Montgomery St Ste 600, San Francisco CA 94111-2627. Often discount websites for hotels may allow for reduced rate. However, I had the experience with Hotwire that this reduced rate was grossly exaggerated and feel that fellow travelers should be made aware. When I booked, I thought I was getting a fantastic rate ($158) on a hotel that was listed on the site as originally $289, a more than $100 savings per night. I booked the hotel and discovered that it was a Hyatt. When browsing Hyatt's website directly, I noted the room (+ free breakfast not offered through Hotwire) was only $170. This is merely a $12 savings rather than the more than $100 savings. In light of the free breakfast and room type guarantee, I would have booked directly with the hotel. I called Hotwire to inquire about their advertising of the room at originally $289 and requested a refund of the 2 rooms I had booked for 3 nights. They did not issue me a refund.

The car rental dates not what I entered into the computer. I wanted a rental and put in dates and times that corresponded with my air travel. I did not realize that what actually was booked and paid for ended up being for two days noon to noon the following day. I saved confirmation without looking closely at it since what I requested was what showed up on the screen prior to hitting the final purchase. I wonder if Hotwire gets all the money and the supposed car rental company, Alamo, got nothing.

Hotwire showed a 5-star hotel for $70 in Las Vegas. Great deal. But once we booked it for three days, it had $122 in taxes and fees, then after we found out what hotel it was, it said the hotel will also add on resort fees. Actual cost of hotel per night of $139 doubled of what Hotwire said. If they would have said $111 per night (plus this hotel does have resort fees), it would have been more to the truth. Hiding costs does not make me want to use them anymore. This happened before last year also. We were stupid enough to do it again. If they would have said $70 x 3 plus $122 taxes which is on all hotels, it would have helped.
