I hope I can give a review less than one star. I have two people who will live in that room so we prefer to have double-bed room. Before I made reservation, the representative told me that I can change that after I had the reservation. However, after I made the reservation, the Hotwire representative told me that I need to talk to the hotel. The hotel told me that I have to cancel the reservation and made another reservation for double-bed room, but if I cancel I can't get refund. I called the Hotwire again, they want me to call the hotel. ** bad experience!!!

The website for Hotwire said from $42 - $45 per day for a car out of Denver. When we made the reservation, a charge of $87.00 per day was charged, and Hotwire said that they could ask Hertz to cancel it - which would have been fine, but they told us Hertz charged a $50.00 cancel fee - and it had been less than 30 minutes since the reservation had been made. No way anyone should have charged a fee, since the website was totally bogus!!

Tried to book a reservation on the website, which held my funds from my account but provided no confirmation. When I called I was placed on hold for almost an hour. When I finally got someone on the phone he said my request must have been out of inventory and would take sometime to release my funds. I explained my reservation was for that evening and still needed a room. If I booked another room through them they would require to hold more funds. I explained that was not acceptable since they were holding money from a non-confirmed reservation. He placed me on hold in the middle of explaining without saying anything. After 30 mins on hold got a different girl who hung up on me when I asked for a manager. KEPT calling to get someone, stayed on hold for MORE THAN 2 and half hours. No resolution and still holding my money. How can a site access your bank without confirming service?? This is the worst service I have ever experienced.

I booked a hotel that said it was a 3 star nice hotel with all these amenities and when I got the name after I paid I went to the hotel's website to find horrible reviews for the last month saying it's dirty, rundown, rooms with water damage, etc. I called customer service right away. It took 2 hours to get someone on the phone and then I was told I would have to go there and have problems myself before they would do anything! My booking is only for 1 night so how can they fix it once I have a problem? I spent $200 on a place I don't want to take my 12 year old to and I can't afford to lose the money.

I made a reservation for my son to rent a car for a week. He was flying on a buddy pass and when after he checked his bags, Southwest told him the flight was full and they had no availability for another 2 days! I knew the reservation was non-refundable but I asked if I could pick the car up to use for the week and they told me they couldn't transfer the driver to me and I paid for the rental! I have used Hotwire many times in the past but I won't be using them after this.

I booked my hotel and flight on Hotwire.com. Big mistake, never again... The flight was great, the hotel was horrible and a nightmare. I am sitting in my hotel as we speak typing this review and feeling unsafe. I would not allow my dog to sleep at this hotel. The hotel placed false pictures online. The hotel does not look like the pictures online. Please do not stay at this hotel. Design Castle and Suite in Miami Florida. The hotel is so unsafe. The hotel has roaches and possible bedbugs. I had an employee walk into my room without knocking. No one from the hotel apologized for her actions. I was terrified. The rooms do not have landlines to call 911 for help.

I cannot believe this is a part of the US, and this hotel is not regulated by the government. I tried to call Hotwire 5x. Horrible customer services. I was on hold 3x and each phone call I got disconnected after 20 min. I tried to call Hotwire prior to check in to cancel my reservation. I did eventually get a good customer service rep named Gustavo but unfortunately I got poor reception in the hotel and I was disconnected. Finally I spoke with a Supervisor named Surge. I expressed my concerns and my feeling of being in an unsafe environment. He acknowledge the situation and stated he was documenting the unsafe environment. He did not provide any alternatives. Hotwire.com nor any company should leave a customer in an unsafe environment.

I was made to believe that I was booking a room at a certain hotel, all through the online transaction, and as soon as the transaction was complete Hotwire sent me the information for another hotel. To make matters worst they had me on hold for 28 minutes before they came to the phone. Then hung up on me once I gave them my transaction number. I am very upset as I also called and was on hold in excess of 20 minutes. This is a subpar experience and I am surprised that this highly dishonest and unethical organization continues to operate unchecked. Please avoid Hotwire at all cost. You will regret it.

I've rented from other sites and never had any problems or issues. To make it worse I had problems with the car rental. They sent me to three different places to pick up a car and the car wasn't in one of the stalls they were assigned in. It was so hot I thought I would faint. I ordered a hotel in Dallas through Hotwire and when I got there they told me it was overbooked and Hotwire were not supposed to sell the room to me. Now I am standing at 11 pm in Dallas without a hotel and having a connection at 6 am. After waiting 45 minutes on hold with Hotwire, I found me a hotel myself. Hotwire charged my account so I emailed them and explained what happened and asked for refund. They sent me a email back and said I had to call them. I called and explained how the hotel turned me away and how Hotwire kept me on hold for 45 minutes late at night and they said they had to investigate by calling the hotel and ask what happened. Then they told me I had to call them back for an update. I told them I should not have to call back but they would investigate and then credit my account. They said ok.

Few days later I got an email from Hotwire giving me $25 of Hotwire dollars to use for my next Hotwire service. Like that would ever happen. I paid with a debit card so couldn't call credit card company and have the charge dismissed, my fault for that. But, I got no refund, no hotel, no apology, and a hopeless customer service. Please use someone else than Hotwire, they don't take care of you when you need it the most.

Hotwire is obviously getting low on inventory during Pan Am in Toronto so they are tricking their customers. Usually if you click on a district it shows you hotels in that area. But right now if you click on a district it shows hotels from all over and you don't know what district it is in until you on the payment page. If you miss it too bad because all complaints take 7 to 10 business days. I'm sure your trip to Toronto is over by then! I'm a long time customer of Hotwire so I know how the process usually works. Don't use them especially if you're coming to Toronto for Pan Am! You'll regret it.

I booked a secret rate under Hotwire's opaque website. It said 5 star room rate $565.00, summer weekend special saving 52%, it was discounted to $270.00. I purchased the hotel and found out their rack rate is $345.00. There were no rooms for $565.00 at all at that hotel. I called to complain and they said that they put the highest rate of a hotel included in that group but that does not necessarily mean you get that hotel. They throw in the same star level hotels with lesser rates and advertise that you will save 52% but I didn't save that at all. Spent an hour talking to someone in India and then they just transferred me around and said they had a bad connection and hung up. I learned a good lesson, I had no idea they did that. I wanted to educate other people that the advertised rate savings are not what you are getting.

I booked a car for a chemotherapy appointment at MD Anderson. My appointment was changed by my doctor before I was to fly in and pick up the car. I called Hertz to tell them I would not be picking up a car. They said no problem if I didn't pick up the car I would not be charged. They warned me though that Hotwire often charges customers who don't pick up the car even though Hertz does not. I called Hotwire and in poor English they said I needed a letter from my oncologist to get a refund. REALLY?? I got my very busy oncologist to write me a letter (embarrassing but car rental was $664) and faxed it in.

I called a week later and they claimed they never got fax. I faxed it again and saved the transmission receipt this time. I called a week later and they claimed to never receive my letter. I faxed again and included the transmission receipt for the second fax. Again when I called they claimed they never got it despite two transmission receipts. I then protested with my credit card company but they said Hotwire has a contract that says no refunds even if you never pick up car. Why they put me and my doctor through all this and lied about a refund policy is beyond me? PLEASE NEVER USE THEM. THEY ARE HORRIBLE!

I booked a room in Pensacola, FL on Hotwire using the "Secret Hot Rate" and I was totally mislead. What the website advertised as a $139.00 value is a complete and total lie. There is not one website that advertises that hotel for any more than $90.00 (most websites advertise it at $80.00). Also, when I was booking the room it stated the hotel had a 4 out of 5 guest rating which it does not. It has a 1.8 out of 5 guest rating. The Hotwire website blatantly lied to mislead me to make it appear that it was offering a much better quality hotel than what it really did.

I asked Hotwire to cancel the reservation and refund my money so I can book another room. All I got back from Hotwire, all 4 times I emailed them, was the same exact scripted response that the reservation was non cancelable and non refundable but no explanation as to why the guest rating & price advertised was incorrect. Hotwire has horrible customer service. I will never book anything through Hotwire ever again & I will never recommend them to anyone. I would rather pay more money than give Hotwire my business.

I used Hotwire to reserve three rooms for three couples in San Diego recently. Their website indicated the room in the hotel we would get was a $252 value. Of course, you don't learn which hotel you will be in until the deal is complete and you have paid. I understood this. After the transaction was complete I contacted the hotel directly to see what type of rooms we would receive. They would not provide the information since we had reserved the rooms using Hotwire. Hotwire wouldn't tell me and the hotel wouldn't tell me. This was the first sign that this deal wasn't going to go well.

I immediately checked the hotel website to see what the charges would be for a Deluxe King Bayside Room... $192. I was a bit encouraged thinking it likely we would get these accommodations since the value was supposed to be equivalent to $252. All three couples were given rooms with two double beds and no bayside view. One room overlooked the parking garage, another a noisy swimming pool and the third had a view of the railroad. We got what we paid for a $152 room but we did not get a "bargain" which was the sole purpose of using Hotwire. DON'T USE THEM TO MAKE HOTEL RESERVATIONS. CALL THE FACILITY DIRECTLY AND YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER. Thanks for listening.

I made a car rental reservation through Hotwire.com for pick up at the Phoenix Airport Hertz Car Rental 5 days later. Through extenuating circumstances, and with 3 days before the reservation date, I am now unable to make the trip to Phoenix and called Hotwire customer service number. I was put in a callback list and after 28 minutes received a call from a recorded message which allowed me to connect to a rep. The rep told me that it is company policy that there are absolutely no changes or refunds issued. She told me to contact the rental car company Hertz. I requested to talk to a manager and was put on hold with very poor quality recorded music for 40 minutes before I hung up and called Hertz and for the 2nd time was told that they will not charge if a person does not pick up the car.

So the legit car rental company has a reasonable and honest operating policy and Hotwire is a greedy scam company completely devoid of ethics who will take people's money and deliver abhorrent customer service?!? I called Hotwire back and was forced to wait another 28 minutes to be connected to a rep, who also offered the same "there is nothing we can do" line. I again requested to talk to a manager and was put on hold for another 35 minutes before another call rang in so I hung up.

In the 2 minutes I was on the other call a snippy and arrogant sounding manager named Mitch called and stated, "there is nothing that we can do, thank you for using Hotwire". What an **. I am out the $155 for the car and learned a lesson the hard way that it is better to do business with a REAL company than with this third party hack-fest that is Hotwire. I recently booked a room on HOTWIRE.COM for a high school sporting event. I booked a "secret hot rate hotel" and the website indicated the night would be at either Hilton, Sheraton, Hyatt, Crowne Royal or Embassy Suites or similar so I booked the hotel room. Once processed it stated that I would be in a Bed and Breakfast / Winery. I specifically had looked at the list of "standard rate hotels" to make sure 2 hotels similar to this were on that list and that wouldn't be one that I would be booked at. Wrong!!

I contacted Hotwire & explained to them that this was false advertising because it never stated Boutique Hotel and I specifically checked to make sure this wouldn't be a hotel that I would be booked at since I was coming in for a high school sporting event. The Customer service rep and the supervisor told me there was nothing that they could do and it wasn't a bait and switch. When I asked to speak to a higher supervisor, I was put on hold for 20+ minutes (I'm sure, hoping I would hang up). Waiting for a call back within 24 hours but it sounds like I'll be disputing with my credit card company or the winery. On 7/4/15 I was browsing Hotwire for a decent priced hotel that was close to my location. The website was EXTREMELY misleading & borderline fraudulent. I had choose a hotel that Hotwire recommended that would be 2-7 miles from my current location. After this purchase was confirmed and my account was charged, I discovered that not only did they lie about where this hotel was located (which was 70 miles away from my location) but also booked a place that was in the wrong town that I had originally chose.

I called Hotwire immediately & received one of the worst customer service reps in customer service history. Her name was Jean. She was very rude & would not direct me to a supervisor or manager. Instead she tried to offer me a different hotel that was close to my area. After being on hold for over an hour she could not find anything close to me. She directed me to find the hotel on my own & then call back & wouldn't provide me with a reference number.

I called back and had to go through the entire process all over again & spoke with Rico who insisted my purchase wasn't refundable. This is totally unacceptable considering the website was very misleading. I DEMANDED a refund & after speaking with several different people and being on the phone with them for over 2 hours they then told me I'd be refunded in 1-2 business days. I will NEVER book with Hotwire again & I will make sure my friends and family are steered clear from this place. Total BS. Never again!

If the nights you select are not available, it defaults to a following weekend when they are available & does not prompt you of the changes. As was so in my case. I called their 800 # only to get representatives, 30 minutes later, that did not speak fluent English (foreigners). Their policy is no refunds, cancellations or alterations unless you pay the additional fee that would allow such for $18 more. After an additional 15 minutes of explaining to the rep (Jaeneen), she finally agreed to offer a one time cancellation!

She rebooked us into a lesser hotel, for more money & 30 miles further from my destination. To add insult to injury, she debited my card twice for roughly $500 & the credit would post back to my account for 3 days because of a 3-day holiday weekend, reducing my allotted spending money. My recommendation, stay away from this site. After my experience, I checked their reviews & there are hundreds of negative reviews.

Twice we booked a room for three adults, only to arrive and find we were booked into a room with one bed and no other sleeping arrangements. The third time we had an issue, we arrived at the hotel at 12:30 AM to find that they did not have our reservation, and it took over an hour and a half to contact Hotwire to straighten it out. On multiple attempts to contact, we were put on hold anywhere from 20-60 minutes. Then the rep would come on, briefly listen, ask to put me on hold to research the issue, then disconnect me. I emailed them wanting to discuss my concerns and asking for a rep to call me, and was told they cannot call from the email contact - surely they can forward that request to someone who CAN call. Far too frustrating to deal with this company when there are other alternatives on the market.

I have had the worst experience with Hotwire and will never use them again or recommend them. I work in the service industry and the service Hotwire provides is extremely poor and frustrating. I booked a rental car through hotwire.com 6/26/15 for 6/27 - 6/28. I received my email confirmation that stated to bring a credit/debit card to the rental agency. When I got to the counter of Alamo (rental care I got through Hotwire) I presented my driver's license and debit card to the Alamo employee. The Alamo asked for a credit card and I told her I only had my debit card on me. She said "in the state of NH, Alamo requires a credit card but Dollar rental allows you to rent with a debit card. You can go there". Then she rudely answered the phone without even saying excuse me as I stood there in shock and without further explanation handing my debit card and driver's license back to me.

As I waited for her to get off the phone I showed her my email confirmation and said I already paid for this through Hotwire and I had a friend drop me off at the airport and have no ride to go back to my house to get me credit card. She said that is our policy and can go elsewhere. So to say the least I will never use Alamo either and I suggest they teach their employees some customer service skills as well.

Extremely frustrated I went home and just used my own car for my trip. I called Hotwire a couple of times Saturday and every single time I called I was told the wait was over 10 minutes (you have to be kidding me). I finally decided to stay on hold and waited 28 minutes for ** to answer. I explained ** the situation above and after just a few minutes she said she was going to call Alamo and confirm my story, and if true they will refund me. She asked for a call back # in case we get disconnected which I gave to her. She placed me on hold and I waited another 11 minutes and then was disconnected. That was a 44 minute call with no resolution and guess what - NO CALL BACK. I still have not received a call back and today in Monday. So I called back and stayed waited another 34 minutes for someone to answer and just hung up cause I could not deal with the hold music and the situation anymore.

Sunday morning at 7:15 I called Hotwire again and got to an employee right away. I spoke to **, explained everything all over again and gave told her what happened when I spoke to **. ** said she was going to call Alamo and promised if we were disconnected she would call me back. A few minutes later she came back on the line and said Alamo is not open yet but she will send an email to her cancellation department and have them work on this and I will receive an email confirmation that this issue was sent to the cancellation department and they would follow up with resolution within 3 to 5 business days. It is now Monday and I still have not received this email.

I will be email Hotwire directly today and I have already called my bank and disputed the charges. Hotwire has wasted so much of my time and caused so much frustration and inconvenience on a weekend that was supposed to be a fun travel weekend. Hotwire provides horrible service, extremely long wait time (I have never heard of any company having a wait time of 28 and 34 minutes). I can't believe I had to wait that long still! Hotwire employees do not excel or even try to provide good customer service. They do not follow up on what they say like "call you back" or "send email confirmation". Hotwire provides inaccurate information as they should have said in the email confirmation to bring a credit card not a credit/debit card.

This has been my experience and I will and already have shared with some of my friends and no one can believe the level poor service that has been provided to me. I suggest not booking with them unless you're looking for headache.

Long story short... Hotwire has the WORST customer service! They not only, repeatedly hung up on me, but a supervisor named ** cancelled one of my tickets, without my permission, out of frustration and lack of problem solving skills. I've asked one question and received several responses from customer reps to supposed "supervisors" and each person has given me different information. And now, I'm one ticket less for a trip planned and booked well in advance while also left scrambling to buy a ticket with VERY SHORT notice which means $$$$$$. UNACCEPTABLE!!

Called customer service, they do not show me having an account, but I am logging in with a user name and password, it says "Hi Julia" and if I try to book another flight it drops down with the passenger names.... so something happened. Not gonna delete and take a risk of losing the fare again and they just don't get it. Besides taking the risk of getting the credit on the CC or not???

First night was good, woke up the next morning with bed bugs. I contacted Hotwire, they told me it was nothing they could do about it. I couldn't get another hotel. So I looked up bed bugs with the hotel name, come to find out they have a history of bed bugs. So I guess they deal with hotels that have bed bugs, what use them again.

My experience with Hotwire was a nightmare. I called and spoke to an agent over the phone to reserve two hotel rooms. While processing the hotel reservation with my debit card info., the agent came back onto the phone to inform me that the rooms I wanted were no longer available. The lady said that she would cancel the reservation altogether and apparently did so. Well the nightmare began when I noticed that my account was STILL charged for it. I called and spoke to 4 people from Hotwire - 3 of which were supervisors - to try and get a refund for services that was cancelled. It was a fiasco as I was placed on hold for long periods of time again and again and again and tried to explain to each individual what had happened. None of them was wanting to hear what I was saying.

Just imagine speaking to somebody with mental challenges who lack the ability to grasp what you are saying, except these people were fully capable of understanding what I was saying. They just refused to hear or accept what I was telling them. They were on the side of the fence where no matter what, they would NOT process a refund since they accused me of booking the reservation online myself! Their protocol was if their agent did it, then a refund was possible. I explained to them that it was their agent who booked the reservation over the phone for me but then it was supposed to have been cancelled by her as well, and that I never personally booked it online.

However, I was only beating a dead horse with my argument. I realized that the agent I initially booked with was somehow able to circumvent their booking system to make it appear as if I was the one who booked it online. My suspicions were confirmed when I realized that a Hotwire account had been opened by her for me when I saw a temporary password emailed to me. She was never authorized to open up a Hotwire account for me!

After my failed attempt for a refund, I called the actual hotel I cancelled from and spoke to one of the managers there who clarified how reservations from third party sources work. After that conversation, I came to conclude that Hotwire was an unethical, cheating, lying business based off the one hour 25 plus minutes of runaround I had with them. The manager from the hotel was wonderful. She confirmed that my reservation indeed was cancelled on the day I was supposed to check in and that they never received any money from Hotwire if Hotwire charged me. She told me there was nothing she could do for me.

In the end, I realized this can only be resolved with my bank as only the big corporations will have the leverage to make things right. My resolve was simple. Call my bank, tell them what happened, and ask them to DENY THE CHARGES. It worked. I got back nearly 500.00. Better yet, VISA linked to my account has taken over the investigation and this is still ongoing. Folks, if you have a legit issue with Hotwire just do what I did. Let your bank or credit card company take care of it. Hotwire is an extremely shady business with terrible customer service and you will get nowhere with them if you try to resolve it with them. I will never have anything to do with their services again and will urge everyone I know to stay away from this business.

I use/recommend your company all the time! But yesterday what I experienced was disgusting! As I always do I went and purchased one of your secret hot rate hotels! Which stated "hotel in dennisport/yarmouth area $63 3 star hotel originally $274.00 a night". First of all this hotel is NOT $274 a night for a double queen bed. That price is based off their "suites". After I found out that "Jonathan Edwards Motel" was the hotel I decided well let me check reviews, I was mortified! "Room infested with spiders", "very dark", "you get what you pay for", "broken window", "manager has alcohol on her breath" etc. I could go on for days!

Immediately I called Hotwire not even 5 minutes after booking. I wanted to change my hotel because I have two small children and we weren't staying there in those conditions. I was connected to one of your reps in the Philippines and she basically told me there was nothing I could do everything is final! I didn't need the money back but since I knew I wasn't going to stay there I would like to at least use this towards a future vacation! I asked to speak to a supervisor and she hung up on me. I tried calling again and had to wait 40 minutes until once again the line went dead! I decided then to just go to the hotel and view the room, it was horrific! Room was very dusty and only had one light which was in between a wall/makeshift counter top. Bathroom was very tiny, carpet was filthy, and then outside was all these drug users hanging outside, one was fixing a bike right in front of my door!

I expressed my concerns to **. I told her I have two small children and they can't be in that room on the floor playing because it's dirty and her response was "we use lots of bleach on everything". I wasn't impressed so we left and went down the street to the "Holiday Hill Motor Inn". I paid $126.00 out of pocket for the room and it's immaculate over here! (When we arrived another woman purchased a room from online and she too was at the "Holiday Hill Motor Inn" looking for a room for the night due to the conditions at "Jonathan Edwards Motel".)

When I got situated in my new hotel I called Hotwire again! This time I got connected to ** in the Philippines, first thing she said to me was my name real, I was flabbergasted! Who asks anyone if their name is real! Yes my name is REAL! Then she said "oh sorry I was kidding". I told her my concerns and she said "I will give you a refund/change your hotel if what you say is true" and I said okay so she said she is calling ** at "Jonathan Edwards Motel". After coming back on the line she said "** said her motel is very clean and those things you said aren't true". OF COURSE she would say her hotel is clean and nice! Because that's her place of business! I was livid! So I'm writing this email in hopes that it gets to the right person! I won't stop until I get reimbursement or one night free in a hotel for my trip next month! So far money hasn't been returned nor could I use it for a different hotel.

I immediately contacted Hotwire customer service to have my funds released by Hotwire since I did not receive any service or product. The Hotwire customer service agent stated that he was unable to assist me and refused to transfer me to a manager. He avoided the transfer by keeping me on a continuous 40 minute hold and then I gave up.

Prior to our disconnect he instructed me to contact the risk management department at 415-343-8808. This number is nothing more than a voicemail. I contacted the phone number provided by the Hotwire agent and left three messages and there is no response from this department. I have been unsuccessful in my attempt to have my $334.76 in funds released from Hotwire and I also have no room and the first part of my honeymoon can be potentially ruined. After entering all of the required information, I was surprised to find that I was given "Budget Inn," which is a 2-star hotel. By anyone's standards, Budget Inn cannot be compared to Hampton Inn. Budget Inn is a non-descript, no-frills motor lodge with tiny rooms. If Hotwire has to use comparisons, then they should have compared it to Motel 6. For the record, I should point out that Budget Inn is not substandard in any way. It's just that HotLiar shouldn't have compared it to Hampton Inn.

Top deals have included the Palomar on Market St, SFO for $90; another good hotel around the corner in SFO for about $100; a wonderfully located business hotel in Midtown East NYC for $145 and a Hilton in London for a mere $69. Other decent deals too.

But now they are denying me access because I am an international customer. I was shocked and have asked for an explanation but they have refused to do anything about it. Are they concerned I might be "colored?" Or is it simple xenophobia? Or just wanting to rip off foreign tourists more? Trying to use their website service leads to a technical error message but they admit that is misleading (=dishonest) since they have closed access to all international customers. Treating long-term loyal customers like this is disgraceful.

The hotels listed had rooms that cost $160 or more even with a discount and the room they gave me was for $100. I am told that because I did not cancel the reservation directly with Alamo, I will have to pay the full amount of $461.70 - for a car I never rented and for a reservation that I cancelled in good faith. It's a scam - the confirmation page I received lists as "Contact Information" for Car Rental, Alamo as 1-800-445-5664. It's not Alamo's number - it's Hotwire's. The confirmation also leads one to believe that at most there would be a $10 fee - and certainly does not mention that little detail that if you don't call the correct rental company number directly to cancel, you will be charged the full amount.

My experience with Hotwire was so bad I thought I was going to have a stroke trying to get customer service to help me. Made reservations to stay at a respectful hotel 3 stars and ended up at a motel 1 star for location. Tried to bring this matter to their attention and they couldn't even find my reservation #. If anyone is thinking of using this method to stay at a hotel save yourself the headache and disappointment. I have emails confirming all of this happening. There's no way I will ever use Hotwire for anything.

I booked a hotel through Hotwire for an advertised 3 star hotel. What was booked was a 1.0 star hotel. I attempted to contact their customer service and that was useless. I informed the rep the hotel was under construction as listed in their website. Not to mention the on the website there were ongoing complaints of dirty rooms, bed bugs, poor hotel service and people loitering in the parking lot. They refused to cancel the hotel reservation and furthermore stated the hotel was a 2.5 star hotel. They told me to give the hotel a chance and let them clear the situation. Yes, of course, I am very disappointed.

This is the second time I have had to cancel or change a reservation. The first time Hotwire gave me a hotel 30 mins from my desired location. It took hell to be able to get it changed with the customer care lady hanging up on me several times. Second time was yesterday. I am heading to Dallas to get my bridal session done. The first hot rate booking gave us 23 mins away from desired location. We called and they decided to change it for us, this time the hotel we got was old and disgusting. I can't imagine coming out of my wedding dress from that hotel.

I called to explain the situation telling the customer service person if I can book a standard rate hotel instead since the hotel we booked previously was misrepresented. He simply said there is nothing he can do for me and I am $250 in the hole. He then hung up on me. This has been the tactic of their customer service reps to hang up on their customers. Now I'll have to book another hotel and lose the money we paid. This is my last time using Hotwire. I have been a loyal customer for over 7 yrs and that's it for me.

When we saw the hotel in which we reserve we realized that is rubbish, it is a one star hotel and not three as seen on the next website: **

Book direct costs less than book by hotwire, not a discount of 56% that it says. I have already bought before on several occasions with you and has done well, but I think a lack of respect that this happened. I will not want you to give me back the money difference, I want you give me back all the money or change hotel reservation for a height I bought. Had a family issue where I had to book travel at last minute. The hotel I wanted to get was sold out. I looked around at several other hotels in the area. I went to Hotwire and they advertised a 2.5 star hotel with a room of $139 discounted to $99. While researching hotels I only saw a couple of hotels that fit that description in the area. I was hesitant to do it since I did not know the hotel but I decided to try it assuming it would be at one of the hotels I saw earlier.

After booking the hotel was one that I had seen earlier with very mixed reviews. Also if I went to the hotel directly the advertised price of the room was $81. Expedia also has the same room listed for the $81. I immediately filled out the low price guarantee giving the all the information requested in the form. This included the website and date that I found the lower price. Hotwire responded with (copied directly from e-mail to me):

"Thank you for submitting your Low Price Guarantee claim. I was unable to find the lower rate using the information you provided. Please reply to this email and attach an image (screenshot) of the lower rate. It must include the address bar showing what website the rate was located on and the average nightly rate including any taxes and fees. The rate submitted must include the same currency and booking details as booked on the Hotwire site including travel dates, hotel property, number of guests and number of rooms. Please note we can accept the following file formats: .gif. jpg/.jpeg .png .bmp .tif .xhtml/.xht .html/.htm .shtml .mht .webarchive .doc .docx .rtf .pdf. We must receive the screenshot within 24 hours of this email to consider the claim.

"After reviewing the information you submitted, we have determined that you are not eligible for a refund under the Low Price Guarantee due to screen shot do not include the dates when you located the lower rate. The Terms and conditions of the guarantee state: 'The Low Price Guarantee from Hotwire is available to any customer who books a hotel reservation with one or more room nights from Hotwire and finds a lower rate for the same hotel and the same dates from any other source within 24 hours following the customer's booking on Hotwire. The only conclusion I can make is that they changed their conditions upon seeing that I had a lower price and submitted all the information they requested.

In May 15 booked for me and my wife a 2 persons 3-star hotel in Paris thru Hotwire. Upon arrival we noticed that the room was very very small. Worst was the small bed; width 1.15m (see pic below). Complained at the reception of the hotel but they claimed not to have any other room available. Called Hotwire but they said that they do not guarantee the bed size and they didn't offer any solution. Because we already paid 100% in advance to Hotwire, I would not get any refund if we refused to stay in the hotel.

We believe it is unacceptable that Hotwire does not care about bed size because this is one of the most important features about a hotel room. According to the Hotel Standard on "theaa.com" a double bed should be 1.90m x 1.37m (min standard for 1 star) so it doesn't seem too hard to guarantee this, unless Hotwire is able to obtain a special discount for these kind of rooms. Will never use Hotwire due to lousy customer service and lack of guarantees about bed size. Have used other agencies where you pay upon leave which is much safer if the hotel or room does't meet the requirements.

First off we searched car rentals and thought we had the best rates online through Hotwire. When calling Hotwire someone answered right away setting up our rental. We wanted the car for one week, June 6th - June 13th. We were quoted a fee. We added insurance coverage, which is what was processed on our prepaid debit card. We received our confirmation number and within the hour of our reservation, went to pick up our vehicle. We get to Alamo Car Rentals and was denied because for one, they do not accept Hotwire's car insurance and secondly they do not accept a debit card which is what Hotwire initially accepted from us to process the rental reservation.

We had no choice but to contact Hotwire to request our refund (which rakes up to two weeks for processing) and was told we would have to contact the insurance company which is a secondary party to request the insurance amount. Needless to say, we wasted our time trying to book with Hotwire. We will NEVER book with them again. By the way, Hotwire answers immediately while accepting reservations but when calling customer service for your refund, we immediately had to hold for 12 minutes for a representative to answer.

Called to explain this wasn't how we do things in the UK (i.e. you only quote prices without VAT to businesses) but the call centre was next to useless and had no understanding of my issue. So, be careful when using Hotwire, they no longer quote with taxes & fees - they add these on the itinerary. Danger of using a non-British company.

Hotwire is the best website I've found for getting lowest price for hotels. I like that they have reviews available (with identifying details being left out of course), which lets me know what others thought of the hotel. Saying "95% of people would recommend this" doesn't really mean much. Hearing about how clean the staff keep the hotel, and kindness of the staff, and comments on the amenities, etc., really makes a difference in my decisions.

I am, admittedly, one of those people who researches which hotels are on Hotwire, pick which one I like the most, and then reap the benefits of crazy discounts. If you're thinking "That's not how it's supposed to be used", and you're right, it's definitely frowned upon. But the important thing, is the hotels and their rates are not public and not known, up until you hit 'confirm'. Sure, hotels can be usually be identified with pretty good accuracy. But they only care that they are protected against price matching their ridiculously good deals. Of course they'd prefer to sell rooms for $300 a night, but they'd also rather sell a room for $100 a night compared to selling none at all.

Since these deals aren't publicly available, the hotels don't need to worry about giving the same $100 deal to everyone that asks. If someone wants to pay $100 for a room, no compromises, they don't really care if it's a Hilton or a Super 8 in the end. But if they can use a little sleuthing to find out that $100 could go towards the Hilton? They're going to take it. Win/win for the hotel. Either someone uses Hotwire as intended, and just gets a random hotel in their price range, or they cherry pick the hotel they want, they're making a sale that's safe from price matching. The hotels win. Every single time.

But anyway. Let's talk about the company specifically, and not just their services. Almost every single company on ConsumerAffairs is filled to the brim with negative reviews. Why? Most people that use Hotwire probably thinks something along the lines of: "Yeah, Hotwire is pretty good. I got a great deal on a hotel, last week. I might use them again. If I remember." A service that works exactly as intended? Hardly inspiring enough to motivate someone to post a rather bland but positive review on a website that seems to cater towards the angry. When people are angry, they want EVERYONE IN THE WORLD to know. Nothing but hate, all over this website. I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate complaints. But I think most people aren't even upset at Hotwire, but instead upset at the specific hotels booked through Hotwire.

If a hotel screws up, it isn't Hotwire's fault. It's the hotel's fault. The rest? They're upset because of Hotwire's strict booking agreements. If you're upset because you can't cancel or change your booking, it's your fault. They are very clear on how and why this system works. It would be unfair to them and the hotels they represent if anyone who got a hotel they didn't like, was allowed to simply cancel and re-book again, and again, and again… Until they find one they actually like. You're taking a risk when you book a mystery hotel. You can make it less of a risk by reading the reviews. If you want no risk at all, just book through the hotel directly. Are you going to whine and complain about the lottery because that ticket you bought didn't win you millions? No. Acting like you have any right to do so is just as ridiculous and immature.

But hey, you know what!? They're seriously very nice and forgiving people! Even when you do make mistakes! I stupidly booked the wrong days for my stay through Hotwire. When I called, they made it VERY clear on their policy of NEVER canceling or changing reservations. But the guy on the phone kindly said "Just this once" and allowed me to cancel and then rebook with the correct days. Maybe it was because instead of yelling at them and complaining about their terrible service, I apologized, admitted my silly stupid mistake, and requested (not demanded) if any changes could be made. Because the person on the other line is, surprisingly, just as human as you are.

And most companies, if you are polite, will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy with their services. If you are rude, demanding, and insult these people, they will not help you. You aren't treating them as a person. They will instantly see you as "angry customer", not "human being". If you instantly stick them into a category other than "human being", they will probably do the same to you. While I used to think everyone was told as children "Treat others as you'd like to be treated", I've come to the conclusion this couldn't possibly be true. I also used to think people were reasonable and intelligent. But complaining about how Hotwire didn't read your mind and book the exact hotel you wanted... has determined that is a lie.

I knew about Hotwire's no refunds policy, but I wasn't aware that they stick to it even when the fault is on their side. First of all, there shouldn't even be an option for the same user to book different hotels on the same night for Christ's sakes. Teleportation and time-travel are still not in use to my knowledge. At least there should be a second pop-up window, asking are you sure you want to book another hotel on that night? But Hotwire sent a very standardized email stating how they will reinforce their "No cancelations, no refunds, no changes, no credit giving, no nothing for our customers" policy. I am appalled with their mistreatment of customers and will definitely never again use Hotwire. What is more, I will go onto deleting my account so I do not get charged if any new tech issues with the app arise. Who knows how much money they can rob me off...

My husband and I reserved a van on the 18th of May 2015. We used Hotwire.com to do so. Of course you don't know the company you will pick your rental up from until the purchase is complete. On the 20th of May at 11:00 am we went to Sixt rent a car in Orlando Florida. Upon check in the first words out of the agent's mouth were "You understand the car can not leave the state of Florida?" This being the million dollar question. We did not know this, we were not told by Hotwire and we had never even heard of this rental company before. We were told by the agent to contact Hotwire immediately. We needed the van to be able to leave the state because we were driving to Ithaca, New York for our daughter's college graduation and then we would be packing up all her things and driving back to Orlando.

We tried to explain this repeatedly to to person on the telephone at Hotwire. (Also, a language problem.) We explained that we did not wish to cancel the complete reservation, we just wanted it transferred to another rental company that would allow us to leave the state of Florida. We stated if it cost us more we would be more than willing to pay the additional cost. To no avail. The woman was horribly rude and not understanding. She would not let us speak to a supervisor. She said that person would only tell us the same thing. This being that they would not help us. This went on for more than an hour and forty five minutes. We even went back inside the company Sixt and spoke to them. They understood completely and said if we had booked through them directly, of course they would refund the money. They understood we needed a van that would be able to leave the state.

In the end we were charged $588 and change for a vehicle we did not get. And this set us back hours before we could get on the road that day. And we had to finally go to another car rental place and rent a van. So we paid twice for a vehicle. I don't understand how a company could do this if you don't leave with a service or an item. I think it's criminal. That this company is allowed to do this is insane. I will never ever use Hotwire.com again and I will certainly tell everyone I know not to use them. By far the worst customer service ever.

(Of course this was after I had entered my credit card info.) I proceeded to try again to book the same package - and the email came back stating I had booked a completely different hotel in the same area but a horrible choice for nearly the same price. The hotel was under major construction - had poor reviews outside of Hotwire (I checked the hotel ratings/reputation with TripAdvisor - and the reviews said this particular hotel was TERRIBLE and not the same as what Hotwire proclaims).

BUYERS BEWARE! Do your homework prior to using HOTWIRE. The first customer service rep I spoke with was a poorly spoken young man who tried to then re-book me into the Four Seasons (a hotel star rating over what I originally requested and $1000.00 more). I kept explaining to him their IP crew needs to look at their site - that it was booking people into hotel they had not chosen. He kept saying, "Let me try to help you..." over and over.. however trying a switch and bait tactic was not the way to help me. I ask for a supervisor to only be put on hold for 15 min. I then hung up and called back and was able to get a more helpful person - but still paid $48.00 more than I originally was quoted with the supplied info from Hotwire.

I used to really love using this company. I have spent a great deal of money traveling and using their services... but as of today I will search for a better online travel company to deal with. The last time I was this upset with a company was with Comcast/Xfininty - and in my opinion Hotwire now rates at the lowest level right along with this company. The most hated company in the U.S.A! Hotwire needs to wake up and realize they are messing up a good thing. I'm out of here!

I attempted to use Hotwire.com for the first time. It has been the worst experience ever. I wish I could get a class action lawsuit going. Hotwire's star rating for hotels is below standards. I requested a 3 star hotel and got a 1 star hotel once it was revealed. In addition when I search the Hotwire site for this hotel it does not appear on the website. How can a company get away with this?? I attempted to call customer service and the only resolution is they would refund my money if I paid for a 3.5 star hotel in the area. Just tell me why I would do this and I still may end of getting a one star hotel? Be aware of Hotwire.com.

They would not refund the difference between the cost of the cars and the taxes I paid. They offered me 25% of the total cost in "future dollars." The difference in the price of the two cars was more than 25%, and I did not want future dollars with Hotwire, because I no longer trust them to meet their agreement to supply me with any product I pay for. Why in the world would I want to do business with them again?!! They screwed me on my reservation and then tried to drum up future business from me as a fix! Do not use Hotwire.com!

Hi. I want to start off by saying I have never had such horrible service in my life. I was wanting to try out Hotwire to see if they were better than Priceline. I was looking on Hotwire for a hotel in the Arvada CO area and the map showed a highlighted area that was in Arvada. They got us a hotel in the Denver area which is 30 minutes outside of the highlighted area. I was on the phone for an hour and a half being put on hold 3 times for at least 20 minutes each time. And then they tried to put me on hold again so we went to the hotel that was extremely out of the way and they told us that they couldn't get us in. So we called Hotwire again to tell them what is going on and they told us they would see what they could do to get us a new reservation for another hotel. We waited on the phone for an hour.

Then the guy came back on the phone and told me that he proceeded a refund (without my consent mind you) then he expected us to process another payment that was more than we paid the first time after. I already told him that I didn't have money to pay for another hotel reservation. The guy said “hold on let me see what I can do” and then the guy hung up on us. I called back and waited for 15 minutes and to make matters worse they hung up on us again. So I called back waiting another 15 minutes and they answered and told me that they didn't get us another reservation And that the refund was processed. I was trying to explain the situation that happened before and they kept speaking over me. I finally asked for a supervisor and the guy asked me why. I told him that he was speaking over me and then he proceeded to tell me no.

I told him that I am the customer and he is a customer service representative and that it is rude to speak over the customer. I had to ask him for a supervisor 10 times and I told him it is not ok that a customer to have to ask for a supervisor 10 times. And then he hung up on me. And now I'm stuck in a town that I have never been in before in my life and I am still stranded because they still have my money and I don't have any way of getting a room. That is the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I will continue to go through Priceline.

Do not use! Hotwire gives you the opportunity to pay more! By using a "low price guarantee" that compares apples to oranges, Hotwire never has to honor this so-called guarantee. Point being, Hotwire requires payment upfront. However, Hotwire won't consider doing so with the supplier directly equivalent. They always compare their price against less restrictive terms. Pretty clever - buyer beware - in fact, I suggest buyer go elsewhere!

A car rental should be one of the easiest things to cancel without a penalty. I understand plane reservations, hotel, etc. can cost the vendor money but car rentals should be changeable and flexible. I would rather go directly with the vendor and pay a higher price than to be bound by Hotwire's guidelines. I will never book through Hotwire again.

We went through all necessary steps, paid the cost and once we got to the confirmation page where they provide you with the itinerary number, we discovered the booked dates were completely wrong. The confirmation showed that we were to pick up the vehicle 5/26/15 and return it 5/28/15. This is not what we chose!

Immediately we called Hotwire and after waiting 2 hrs on hold we get an agent who tells us there is nothing they could do to correct their error or the malfunction of their site. They could not change the dates and they could not cancel our policy. The only thing they offered was to give us the dates we originally selected and give us the same vehicle at now the cost of $400.00!!! This is absurd!!!! We told her no, we wanted the same vehicle for the same price and for them to correct our dates. She explained that those "deals" were sold out.

Of course they are after having us on hold for 2 hrs!!! We asked to speak to supervisor and she said the supervisor would say the same thing. We told them that we have proof of the dates we selected (because we took a screenshot the page of our purchase) and she said the only way we could dispute that was to fax in the proof to their investigations department. She goes on to tell us that the dispute could take them 7-10 business days before we could get our full refund. This did us no good seeing how we needed a vehicle in the next two days. Not only are we out $78.00 for now, but still no vehicle for our travel and a huge headache. We wasted our entire evening to get nowhere. They are such a scam! I reserved a room for 3 adults and they checked us into a room with one king bed. The hotel said there was nothing they could do because that's the deal they had with Hotwire. I called Hotwire and was told that by law the hotel has to provide us with enough beds for 3 people, so I told the hotel. The desk manager said they could give us a rollaway bed which counts as a bed.

The rollaway bed was hard as a rock, and you could feel the metal bar underneath. I was traveling with my husband and brother, both 6'5 and their feet hung over the rollaway, so I had to sleep on that while they awkwardly shared a bed. I contacted Hotwire again and they told me that with the rollaway the hotel did uphold their end of the bargain. They also told me to guarantee two real beds, I'd need to book for 4 adults, but it's likely to be more expensive.

When I have a couple days in a row I look for a motel as it's tax deductible and considering gas, tolls and wear and tear on me...worth it. I wanted a motel close enough to my job sites with free parking such that I could walk to the job and save the high daily parking charges, making the motel stay even more financially feasible.

I thought I'd try Hotwire. I hate making blind deals, so, rather than book online, I called Hotwire and spoke to an agent personally about the "mystery" hotel(s). He kept telling me about all the great amenities. I kept saying "all I care about is it is in the vaguely indicated area and free parking." He kept assuring me regarding both. Based on those assurances, I made the deal.

When I got the confirmation and the name of the actual hotel I discovered no free parking and it was a mile and 2/3s away from the job. (Not even within Hotwire's indicated area). I contacted Hotwire. I was told an investigator would interview me in a couple of days. They did. They assured me I'd get reimbursed once I faxed them a copy of my bill. I did. A week later I heard nothing. I called and was told I needed to make sure my itinerary number was in the fax. I put it into a second fax. Now, 3 weeks later, nothing. No check. I've read lots of comments previously writing mine, and I see I am not an exception. It is very simple, Hotwire lies and tricks customers with false, deceptive and misleading advertisement. Hotwire website says that you will pay $86 for a hotel which normal rate is $203. It says in capital green big letters "YOU SAVE $117". Well, once the hotel name is revealed, you can see that Hotwire is offering the same hotel, at the same dates, for $109. So you don't save $117 but $23. And, if you go straight to the hotel site you will feel even more stupid, because they can offer you a bargain for even lower than the price you paid.

No matter how many mails or phone calls you invest on trying to get a refund or at least a minimum satisfaction, they will answer with the same response. That means something like this (my translation): "You were scammed, get over it, we don't care if you don't come again or if you write complaints that very few will read, that is the way we do business". I think that Hotwire rates the risk of this fraud and they might refund when they think that can be sued or something. Otherwise it has no explanation the hundreds of comments evidencing their absolute disdain for customers. I am sorry for all of you that were scammed as I was and I hope this comment can be of any use for someone smarter than me to avoid being dissatisfied.

Regarding the issue, I was finalizing my rental SUV purchase for the dates on May 1, 2015 8pm- May 3rd 11:30pm for the per day price, $39.95. Total $173.66. In addition, I included per day damage protection for the duration of my rental, $27.00. Concluding a grand total of $200.66.

Reading it thoroughly, I agreed to the terms based on that price presented to me, $200.66 and continued to proceed with my check out. While doing so, I received an error message stating "We're sorry, but your request did not go through. Error #114." (Attached is the message). Upon receiving this message, I contacted customer service regarding this issue. The first lady from customer service requested for my reference number. I proceed to press back 2 times on my computer to notify her of the reference number.

Upon doing so, the new price updated as a higher price, which I DID NOT authorize. Pressing back again to go to navigate to the price of 200.66, which I authorized under the terms, Hotwire.com updated my page and charged me $596.00 on to my card! Instantly, I notified the customer representative, that my card was charged $596.00 as she advised me it was not. Immediately, without prior notice of transfer, the first representative transferred me to another representative who looked into the issue. The new representative continued to badger me as he repetitively said "You authorized this payment. There is nothing I can do!" I requested to speak to a Manager.

As unresourceful with an unhelpful demeanor she refused to assist me in ANYWAY POSSIBLE! She confessed to seeing my attempt to pay $200.66 (which is the amount I agreed to pay based on the terms and conditions), but was completely belligerent and unresponsive to the situation. I requested for her Supervisor's name, she refused to give it to me. In addition, her job title, she gave no response. Lastly, I asked for the corporate office number. She told me there is nothing they can do about it.

While we were on the phone, I proceed to call corporate from my computer (which were very respectful and responsive), as they gave me the number to Customer relations department. I left a message through voice message requesting a call back. ** hung up on me. Completely appalled, I've never experienced such a demeaning and unjustified service from any company in my life! I was charged triple the amount on my card, nearly $600 which I did not authorize and mistreated greatly. Not only by customer service representative, but a Manager!

I contacted my bank regarding disputing this unauthorized payment. I will also share this experience on Social media vehicles and review platforms as well! Please return that payment on my account immediately! In addition, please contact me once you recover this letter as I prioritize this letter for next day delivery. Will never use Hotwire again. Advertised hotel as $135 for $74. Found it on other sites for $82 and would have known which hotel I was getting. The most expensive room at the hotel I received was $111. Nobody at Hotwire will listen to you and they just give a standard response on the "Hot" deal you are getting. Not a deal at all. They told me that $135 was the average for the hotels I might be getting. None of the hotels they had on the list were worth more than the $135.

Well hotwire has a policy that states they will notify you when it is lowered, they never did so I called but I was a day late. I was told that I had to call them within 24 hrs. which it did not state in the email. I called customer service and spoke with a gentlemen whom informed me that it didn't matter who I spoke with, I would get that same response. So I ask the gentlemen was hotwire just a scam and he said "yes we are" so I asked to speak with a manager and he apologized numerous times for saying "yes we are". He never let me speak with a manager, he placed me on hold for over 10 minutes then eventually hung up on me. I tried calling back but was never able to connect with a live individual.

I spent ages checking hotwire over the course of a week and finally booked what was listed as a four star hotel. I got the hot secret rate, it turns out the non 'hot secret rate' is 20 more expensive but includes breakfast. I will not have to pay for breakfast for three days for three persons, which I expect to be at least 30. So hotwire rate will see me at least 70 out of pocket. I think it used to be a real service once, now it is just a scam.

I wrote to hotwire asking about breakfast and the advertised real price, (845) versus the actual real price (526 including breakfast) and the hotwire price, (506) and got a reply as follows: "I have reviewed the amenities for this hotel and Free Breakfast does not appear to be listed. During your hotel search we show the amenities offered by each hotel on the search results page and the hotels details page. You can use the filter along the top of the search results to see only hotels with a specific amenity or click the 'See All Amenities' link next to the rate you are interested in. This allows you to choose the hotel with the amenities to best meet your needs - e.g., pool, free breakfast, kitchen, or access to the beach.

I can provide you with some more information about how our rates work. Hot Rates are booked based on the star rating, neighborhood and other details and so the crossed out rate we show before booking is an example based on published rates for similar hotels. The savings are based on median published rate we have found on leading retail travel sites in the last 24-48 hours for the same neighborhood, star rating, and stay dates. Rates change regularly in the travel industry and we regularly check rates on other travel sites to ensure you are getting a great deal, backed by our Low Price Guarantee. Your feedback is an important component in ensuring quality products and services at Hotwire. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to reply to this email or contact us directly at 1-866-HOTWIRE (468-9473). Thank you for choosing Hotwire."

What is the point of booking with them when they are actually more expensive than the rate the hotel is offering? I have written back again to see if I can pay them the hotel rate to get breakfast included and am awaiting a response but on the basis of the current result and response... NEVER AGAIN.

We are disappointed and frustrated with the level of service at Hotwire regarding our terrible stay at Style Hotel Milan. Below are our issues we encountered and we would like to be refunded the extra charges from the hotel and the international calls to Hotwire $168.90.

Hotwire reps on Sunday April 26: 1st ** rep hung out on me. 2nd rep ** was very argumentative with me when I described the situation and when I asked to speak to a supervisor stressing the urgency since it's international call. We were surprised by the additional charges and wanted to cancel. 3rd Rep ** same result. April 29th **. April 30th **. May 1st **.

Style hotel is listed in your website as a luxury 5 star hotel. We did not experience that. It is false and we were nickel and dimed. Our understanding is 2 rooms 2 adults per room. Their deluxe room which apparently has a queen size bed is for a single occupant; thus we were charged a change/upgrade fee for the king size bed and a fee for the additional occupant. A hotel with no business center charges for WiFi. A guest with a room card cannot access the gym. The gym has no water. After working out, you have to buy bottled water. Hot/cold air in the room as well as the gym is controlled by the receptionist's office.

As a non-smoking hotel, their lack of enforcement on that is shocking. I am pregnant and have a daughter that is 1.5 years old traveling with me. Housekeeping was not good either. The stains on the bathroom floor were not mopped and the garbage from the previous guest was still in the room. Asking for hot water is considered room service and would charge 12 euros.

During my one night's stay at this hotel, I must have complained to the front desk clerks at least 5 times throughout the night for excessive noise and banging on walls as I couldn't sleep - from the room above my room - but the staff did NOT do anything about it. And then finally, I called Long Beach Police - dialed 9-1-1 - but they too couldn't do anything about it either. I asked for a full refund from Hotwire.com, but after playing email games with - they told me that they were "talking" to hotel about my stay - me for one month, but they eventually refused to reimburse me for the one terrible night stay at this hotel.

I want to ask Hotwire.com if they endorse hotels it works with, then why won't it reimburse customer's money when customers had problems at the hotel where they stayed? I'm also going to report Hotwire's practicing policies to Better Business Bureau - BBB and with City of San Francisco Chamber of Commerce - one that issues business licenses to businesses in city of SF.

We have experienced the same situation as ** of North Vancouver, BC. A week ago, we booked a hotel in Quebec City. Never during the course of the transaction did we see any mention of any currency other than in Canadian dollars. The HOTWIRE total was CAD. A few days after booking, we checked our credit card statement to see that Hotwire has charged us in US dollars. The Total amount should have been $195.47 CAD as shown on the booking, yet the $195.47 was converted the exchange rate and we were invoiced $246.24. What a scam!

We checked the complete process up to the payment and billing stage and nowhere did we see any mention stating that we would be charged an exchange rate or anything related to any other currency than Canadian. The confirmation of payment we have on hand shows Canadian currencies all the way. We called Customer Service which is by the way one of the poorest we have encountered and, of course, with no results. Then they said if we wanted a refund, we would have to book another room (which cost more than the first one) and wait 3-5 business days for the initial refund. What?!! Who has the money for that? Hotwire would not help us whatsoever. And when I asked the guy, would I just have to give them a free 128 dollars, he laughed and said, "Yes." Do not ever use Hotwire. They are the worse. Hotwire also charges taxes and fees on top of the listed price. So we ended up paying more than the Expedia rate for the Fleabag hotel room Hotwire gave us. We paid 3 months in advance for this fleabag hotel room from Hotwire and they over charged us with hidden costs. Hotwire charged us $156 and the Expedia rate was 143, payable on arrival and you could cancel any time right up to the date. I will never use HOTWIRE again. They don't care about their customers!

We searched online and decided to book with Hotwire to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Hixson TN being that it was close to where we would be spending our time. When we got to the hotel (a few hours after we booked the reservation) we were informed that the hotel was booked and that our reservation had been canceled.

We proceeded to call Hotwire where the only answers they had for us is that they would refund the money in one to two billing cycles. They also said they would be more than happy to book us another room but we would have to pay again because they couldn't use those funds. Why would we pay twice when they fell through with the first reservation and would not refund the money for so long? That is ludicrous!! When we stated this was unacceptable they decided to hang up on us. We tried to call back several times where we were placed on never ending holds. I would not recommend using this site if you want to actually reserve a room!! We ended up staying way across town and had to pay more for a room and who knows when we will receive a refund! Free parking, free WiFi, free hot breakfast in many instances. Newer very clean rooms and great locations. Our issue comes with the 4-5 star rated hotels. You should expect large parking fees, expensive WiFi, poor room placement, and no included amenities.

Recently paid $44 night / parking and did not buy WiFi as it was a similar cost. Pay close attention to what is included in the booking prior to confirming your room. We love and use Hotwire all the time in fact we find it exciting to roll the dice so to speak while we travel. Just saying the 3 1/2 star hotels are your best bet for value, comfort and amenities. Buyer beware. Hotwire, Expedia & Lemon Tree Suites. I recently booked a hotel for the Anaheim, California area through Hotwire. They advertised a rate of $189.00 a night for $83.25 a night. I have used Hotwire before and have loved the service and value I had received. Therefore when I booked this six night stay my expectation was based on my previous experiences. Once the hotel was booked, I got a confirmation of which hotel was selected. To my utter shock I was notified that I was booked in at the Lemon Tree Suites. I then checked the Lemon Tree website to see the $189.00 room and found that there wasn't one! I was scammed! I called Hotwire and was notified that they go by the neighborhood average for the advertised rate. In other words, there are various hotels in the area with the original rate, this is why Hotwire is allowed to promote this rate. I was advised that no changes could be done to this booking.

Once we arrived at the hotel it was as expected. I tried to keep a positive outlook on this whole experience, however it was very rundown and dingy. I had no other options as I had already paid for my stay. We tried to overlook the old tiles, the small bathroom and the door that had no weather stripping on it. The door frame had molding and the light from outside was easily seen through it. The lock didn't quite work, and the chain was required to fully lock the door. This left both my mother and I feeling very unsafe.

The last straw was when we found bugs on our beds. They were small and brownish red in color. We could feel them on our skin and leg hairs. We then went to the lobby and advised the staff of the situation. They called a maintenance employee to our room, who then told us that the whole room would need to be emptied and cleaned. We then check out of the hotel. We spent the rest of the day searching for a new hotel that would be able accommodate the rest of our stay. Most hotels were full by the time we got there and driving around a city we didn't know was very stressful.

Hotwire put me through hell on this vacation. I wonder why a hotel that is so rundown is recommended by a large company such as Expedia & Hotwire? Do they have no standards for their customers? Do they not care about their customers' safety? The lack of customer service is ridiculous! My expectation as a repeat customer is a refund.

Am new to Hotwire. My first booking was for a CDG airport hotel using my phone browser and it worked out well with genuine savings. This is my second booking on my phone browser for a hotel in Milan. I actually already had this hotel as a free cancellation reservation on booking.com for the SAME price. The crossed out price on Hotwire indicated that I was savings hundreds of dollars but I did not save anything. Nada, zilch. I am actually worse off and feel totally ripped off and of course, they say that it is non-refundable.

The booking and payment screen did not say that the discount was off other hotels. I was told on the phone that there should have been an asterisk near the price that explained that the discount is off other hotels in the area, not that hotel. I did not see this on either of the screens I used and even went back to check after I spoke with them. Seriously, what's the point if you won't save off the actual hotel. Isn't that why it's a secret hotel, because the hotel doesn't want to reveal itself and undermine its sales elsewhere?

I logged onto a computer browser hours later to see the disclaimer in small print right at the bottom of the home page, so not exactly where it is readily visible when customers search and book. Even so, to have no savings whatsoever and be worse off because now we have paid over 10 months in advance for a non-cancellable booking which costs the same as a fully cancellable booking is unconscionable on the part of Hotwire. We are going on an 8 weeks trip and had thought to use Hotwire extensively but won't touch them again now. Their customer reps just will not assist with the situation merely reiterating that it is non-refundable. Even under these circumstances when we've been clearly misled to believe that we would be better off booking through them. This is classic misleading and deceptive conduct by Hotwire.

We were going to stay the night in Annapolis, MD. I visited Hotwire's website and booked a hotel in Annapolis for that night. The issue is that Hotwire doesn't actually say what hotel you will get until you make the purchase. Hotwire goes by the stars and location once selected. So I booked the hotel thinking it was going to be Annapolis because Hotwire's website read it was going to be an Annapolis location. And after it was booked it was then revealed that my hotel reservation was a hour away in Columbia, MD.

I immediately called their 1-800 number and tried to talk to a representative what happened. The representative hung up on me. I then called back a second time and spoke to another representative. She tried to help, but wanted to book a hotel that was even farther. When asked to speak to her supervisor, she hangs up as well. At that point, we decided to head home.

When I got home that night, I called Hotwire to meet a resolution with this matter. Hotwire states the reservation cannot be refundable even though their booking website was deceptive and mentioned that I did see that the hotel reservation cannot be refundable. I then explained that I had no intention to get a refund because their website claimed I was getting a hotel in Annapolis and not somewhere else. He then explained Annapolis was booked up for that night. My issue is that if Annapolis was booked up for that night then why didn't Hotwire's website state no available hotels as opposed being deceptive.

I booked 2 hotels in Los Angeles for a trip last week which I ended up having to cut short due to the death of my 17 year old cousin from Brain Cancer. When I called up to ask for a refund or credit so we can go back to these hotels when we re-book in June, I was told that all I had to do was fax in an obituary notice and that deaths in the family are the only exceptions to the refunds.

Once I did this, I was informed that first cousins aren't considered as "close family members" and that they would NOT refund me or give me credit. My cousin was like a sister to me and was the definition of a CLOSE FAMILY MEMBER. When I called the actual hotel themselves, they even told me that the only way to get a refund was if Hotwire contacted their manager so they could adjust the cost and refund the money. I am VERY upset with this whole situation and do not plan on booking with them again. This inability took them over an hour and several misplaced transferred phone calls. I finally booked the package online. When I attempted to re-contact Hotwire, I was hung up on 3 times and transferred to incorrect people and given an incorrect email address to contact them. Finally I was given an Expedia email address as Expedia owns Hotwire and I was directed to contact them.

I have sent them 7 emails, all being met with totally unacceptable responses, such as they have no record of me, despite the fact they sent me emails confirming my trip and charged my credit card. All the emails demonstrate that no one took the time to read the emails I sent with all the necessary background information. I have tried, without success, to reach an executive at the company to discuss this horrible example of customer disservice. I guess this is just typical of the operation. When booking the hotel, Hotwire states that the hotel has a resort fee of approximately $17 and includes "free" internet. To make a long story short the hotel charged $23 a day resort fee and $18 a day for self parking. When you add the costs plus tax it added $45.05 a day that I had to pay at the end of our stay. Hotwire does not disclose that an additional self parking fee would also be charged. They also claimed "free" internet, which was false because you get the Internet as part of your $23 a day plus tax resort fee, so it's not free. I am furious that I trusted Hotwire and planned to pay approximately $20 a day at the end of my stay, not $45 a day.

When confronting the hotel about the charges they stated it was Hotwire's responsibility for not disclosing all the additional costs. In the end we ended up paying more than we were told or planned for and we dealt with a room that had bugs, which nobody came to take care of and upon leaving they told us they would make sure to take care of it before the next guests arrive.

Two MAJOR issues. 1. They advertise a greater % off than is the case. If you search the price of your hotel on their own site after booking with Hotwire, they're likely comparable rates with nowhere near the savings stated. However, this seems to be under Hotwire policy, as the % off is of the AVERAGE hotel price in the area. Of course, they enlist one highly priced hotel to jack up the average of that area and hotel class and seldom ever offer a single room in that hotel, meanwhile always offering plenty of rooms at the lower priced hotels where its barely (if any) savings at all to book with them. This a very simplistic and fairly unethical trick on their part. However, since their policy states that they're allowed to do their math like this, they can easily trick consumers into thinking they're getting 30-70% off great hotels, when really, they're not. Highly unethical, and highly deceptive. But legal.

    2. What's worse is the illegal false advertising. Now that you've booked your hotel, thinking you may get the sweet deal like the "last customer" as advertised, but got the dud with no savings instead, well you're left thinking like you were just unlucky. Not true, as stated in the first problem with the site above, the odds are stacked against you. The real problem lies in now checking back at that same deal, which is still available in your unlucky dud hotel, BUT, "the last customer" still got that nice fancy one for a great price.

How could this be, since you were the last customer. Hotwire customer support says "Oh, this is just a refresh issues, and the system hasn't been updated." If that were the case, Hotwire's own system wouldn't automatically log you off of your great deal when another customer has booked it and say "This deal has expired, we CONSTANTLY update rates, and deals, because they're such hot commodities and sell fast." Oh really, but with those updates you DON'T update what "The Last Customer Got..." EVER. I was the last customer, several times on this site, and had new tabs open, and tested their system checking if it would update for me (the new customer) what the last customer (also me) got, not the case. The system updates, but they leave that juicy sounding hotel right there in the "Last Customer Got” indefinitely, so long as the deal is up.

This is a flat out LIE, and they do it on purpose. It is false advertising, and intentional customer deception. This is not a trustworthy business model and angry customers are bound to figure their game out sooner or later. I highly advise staying away from this site, and taking action against them if you can. In CONCLUSION, you may snag a decent deal here or there, and see it as a useful tool in the short run. But you've just had some luck. In the long run, and for the aggregate customer on average, the site will leave you deceived and disappointed like a rigged shell game on a street corner.

So I called them - got disconnected the first time when connecting to a supervisor (and again subsequently in a later call). I was told the process to file for their low price guarantee.

I didn't know they had one and had called to get the booking cancelled because of the poor process of having a lower rate on their own damn site and the lack of listing the amenity on the standard site. I filed the proper information (after erroneously submitting a screen shot with the wrong dates first) but they stonewalled me at every turn and would not give me a refund. Way too much time on hold, disconnected (twice), stonewalled when I did get through, stonewall e-mails. I will no longer do business with Hotwire and am disputing the credit card charge.

Airline (American Airlines) would not correct name since trip was booked through Hotwire. Hotwire refused to correct the name and kept blaming the airline. Now we have to worry about TSA letting us on plane when we travel.

I immediately called Hotwire to say I want to want to change my hotel but they said, "sorry we can't do anything about take it up with hotel" - yes the hotel refunded our whole but I believe Hotwire should have stepped in. We have been Hotwire customers for the past 2 and half years spending over $3000 a year on hotel bookings. They say we are loyal customers and we know we are but they do not treat us in this regard. I wish they cared more about us in this situation, just because we got a bargain for our hotel stay doesn't mean we should be treated with less respect.

This outfit is part of the Expedia group. The 'secret hotel' trick. I chose the area to find only 4 offers. Selected a 46% discount offer and paid $158.00. When revealed it was the Radisson Prado which I could have booked direct for only 2.5% more, YES 2.5% NOT 46% less as Hotwire misleadingly advertise. Worse, the hotel has bad reviews - dark dingy small rooms and other problems. Dealing direct with the hotel I might have paid $10 more but at least I could have negotiated a good room.

Responses to complaints at Hotwire customer service are with the usual robot text not addressing the issue. Eventually after many mails I got a human to respond, but they couldn't read English well and so their reply was useless. The end result is they refuse to cancel-refund-nor exchange for another hotel. Their secret deal advertising is intended to mislead and deceive, therefore better avoided. Such sharp practice tactics in a high street store would be prosecuted... but hiding behind the internet screen there's nothing to be done except report them to the hotel group in the hope they will respond cancelling the contract for its negative repercussions upon the hotel.

The customer service department had poor customer service skills and options were non existent... everyone I spoke to including supervisors used the same excuse "HOTWIRE POLICY". It is evident that once Hotwire has the customers money, they mean to keep it... NOT user friendly at all! Change your policies to satisfy the customer!!

On November 21, 2014, I called Hotwire regarding a hotel room in New Orleans, LA. I was trying to confirm that the facility had a hot tub. The woman with whom I spoke said that she had no way of knowing that information. She instructed me to purchase the room online, and if it didn't have a hot tub, call back and cancel. I could then try a different hotel and go through the process again. I made the reservation, the hotel did not have a hot tub, I called Hotwire to cancel, but I was instructed that the room could not be cancelled per their cancellation policy.

I said that this was unacceptable and requested to speak with a supervisor. She was not much help; she offered a $50 credit toward my next Hotwire reservation, and I said that was unacceptable. She said that all of the phone calls are recorded, so she would attempt to get a transcript of the call I had with the representative who instructed me to make the purchase. I never heard back nor did I get the $50 credit. I spent over an hour trying to get this matter resolved with Hotwire.

Once I got to the hotel in New Orleans, I was thoroughly disappointed. The room was tiny, not clean, and the breakfast that was advertised on the Hotwire Website was not edible. We had to go out for breakfast. Due to all of the above-mentioned issues, I decided it was best to dispute this amount with you rather than wasting any additional time with Hotwire.

I helped my sister book a weekend's stay in NYC after I received an email from Hotwire detailing a one day sale of amazing deals. My sister and her boyfriend have never been to the city and she was planning a romantic surprise vacation. I understand the terms of "hot rate" deals and the hotel we were assigned to looks beautiful, but... never did I imagine she would be assigned a room with bunk beds! She is disabled and this would not work out for her. I called the hotel to see if we could upgrade her room and they explained that because we booked through a third party (Hotwire), there was nothing they can do.

I called Hotwire customer service 3 times and I've written to them 3 times. I get a different person each time, each one as unhelpful as the next. They must be responding with computer generated solutions to keywords. I have yet to receive any kind of confirmation that any changes have been made. I just want confirmation that her room has been upgraded and I am willing to pay additional charges even though it seems unlawful to rent a room with bunk beds without disclosing in the terms and conditions that bunk beds are a possibility. Additionally, at that price we would have been better off booking directly with the hotel. What do elderly guests and/or guests with disabilities do in this case?

Then they charge you right away and later send you an email saying all quotes are in US dollars (in fine print mind you). When you call them to get the matter fixed they have the worst customer service and then give you a handful of invalid excuses that they back track on when you prove them wrong. I booked a flight with Hotwire to Atlanta. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to change my dates for which they said they would charge me $200 plus fare changes. I agreed. So she gave me all segments on Air Canada. I usually like to trust people and assumed the lady knew her job well and was giving me the best options so I told her to go ahead. My boyfriend was simultaneously looking for flights on Hotwire too and he found me a flight that was 50$ cheaper and had more convenient times.

It was United one way and Air Canada on return. All this within literally 30 secs after I said "ok I will take it". When I asked the lady to give me that flight she said the tickets had already been changed and she would have to charge me another 200$ for the change. When I told her it wasn't my fault that she didn't give me the different option, she started screaming at me and saying she wouldn't be able to have given me the flights anyways because of their policy. So I asked her to read out the policy and the policy stated that "at least one segment of the change flight should be the same as that of the initial airline". Which it was. In fact, 2 segments were Air Canada. She continuously refused to be able to do anything so I asked her to escalate me to her manager.

Her manager gets back to me after 20 mins of waiting and right away starts to tell me how nothing can be done unless I pay more. I explained the whole situation to her and told her that it wasn't about the money. It was about the employees not giving the right information to the customers. All in all nothing changed. I am left feeling frustrated and exploited. Never using Hotwire again and I won't ever recommend it to anybody either. I tried to save a few dollars by booking on Hotwire but ended up being ripped off :(

On a sidebar Hotwire.com had a special or deal for a cheaper price. So I clicked on it. The price was $60 lower due to reduced tax cost. Taxes were "estimated". I thought maybe you worked out a deal with midway. Nope. It felt like a bait and switch. You estimated the cost so, then when she gets to the airport, the taxes are still $100. Unbelievable but true. It feels like deception and fraud. You give us an estimate to get us to sign the deal then comes the real. I will never use Hotwire.com again and when I have opportunity, I will share my experience. Fortunately the car rental company adjusted the rental price to reflect the original quote from Hotwire.com. The first contact with the car rental company was non responsive. When she brought back the car, the rental agency did respond when she showed them the original paperwork. Keep your paperwork and keep presenting your case, someone might just listen and favorably respond.

Our last two experiences with Hotwire were disastrous. First we were booked into a hotel that had been closed for renovations for a month. When we called Hotwire the message said "less than 2 minute wait." Our wait was one and a half hours during which we incurred long distance and roaming charges. We were booked into another hotel that added 2 hours to our drive after our ruined evening. They gave us a credit for our troubles.

We booked again a month later in a different city. After driving for two days, we arrived and despite the fact that we had confirmations there was no reservation for us. This time it was an hour on the phone. We spoke to three representatives who had no solutions for us. They simply refunded us for the hotel charges and told us to go find ourselves another hotel as it was now after midnight and they do not book after midnight. We drove around for another 45 minutes and stopped at every hotel in the vicinity but they were all booked solid. We ended up sleeping in our car in a parking lot.

Both times we complained directly to Hotwire upon our return and both times we received the most infuriating, patronizing emails that minimized our horrible experience. Clearly these were standard "form letters" that they use for all complaints. Phone calls to them were equally unsatisfactory. They offered us more credits that didn't even cover the phone charges that we incurred.

To be fair, I had (as in previously, just today deactivated my account) used Hotwire several times, with generally good results. But the last time I used them, I feel it was deceptive tactics to get me to buy a room at a hotel, only to find out after purchasing that the parking fee at the hotel was 50% again of what I paid for the room. I called their customer "service" and talked to two levels of people only to get no satisfaction. They told me I shouldn't have expected "free" parking since it wasn't offered in the amenities. At no time did I ever say I expected free parking, especially knowing the area (Queen Anne in Seattle). They also lied to me saying that they don't know which hotel I'm going to get, which is total nonsense. They offered the price and location and the amenities, so they obviously know full well which hotel they're selling rooms for.

I had no problem with a parking fee, but when I buy a room for $73 (incl. taxes) and the parking is $36 (incl. taxes) with no forewarning, then I have a problem.

Again, I had many good experiences with them, but this last one soured me on ever using them again, especially when they lied on the phone directly to me and wouldn't offer anything to make this situation better. Compared to Priceline, Hotwire sucks.

We haul trailers for a living. We were in Scottsdale Arizona and had a flat tire on our company's 52-ft flatbed trailer. We called Hotwire to book a hotel for the night. We asked the gentleman, who spoke choppy English and spoke too fast, that we needed the nearest hotel under $100 dollars. And that we also needed it that night until the next day (March 18-19, 2015). After letting him know the amenities we required (pet-friendly, one bed, etc.), he told us there was a room available at the Holiday Inn & Suites under 10 miles away that matched our needs. The total was $92.74 after fees and taxes. Once we gave him the COMPANY card information and our email address, he told us to go directly to the Holiday Inn.

A few moments after this phone call, we receive our email from Hotwire. The itinerary showed we had booked a room at the La Quinta Inn & Suites (more than 10 miles out) for April 18-19 2015. Reading further, it also said it was non-refundable. Of course we immediately called the center back, sitting on hold for about 20-30 minutes. Once they answered, we explained what happened and why it was imperative we (1) get to a hotel and (2) needed the company's money refunded or applied to another hotel. They said there were no more rooms available in the entire city and that we had to eat the $92.74 that they charged us. After 15-20 minutes of arguing, we asked to speak to a supervisor and they said they would try and find one and put us on hold. The same person then picked up the phone and asked if we would like to re-book a hotel for the night (paying yet again and out of town).

We told them no, obviously, and that we did not want to speak to them anymore and to put the supervisor on the phone. Once the supervisor answered, we re-explained everything and he also told us we were out of luck and out $92.74 with the nearest room being out of town. He also then said that he would have to do a full investigation of the original conversation before they would even think about refunding. And that it would take at least 7-10 business days. So we are out $93, have no room in town, and have to drive a loaded trailer with a flat to the next town which, in case you didn't know, is a dangerous drive. I will never use them again. Personally, if you're going to hire someone at your call center, make sure they understand English and are competent enough to do their jobs.

The person I talked to basically Told me it was my fault. And then implied I was a liar. Not so much about the money, but the total lack of professionalism On their part. I have never dealt with a business Who would do this.

I'll be fair and say that usually Hotwire is fine with hotels, as long as you research their hotels and know they bump up their ratings. With car rentals it's a completely different matter. On a couple of occasions I've been done by their hot, non-refundable deals which magically drastically reduce in price after purchase and just after the price guarantee expires. Once again, I forgot this practice and fell into the same trap and booked a car which became $100 cheaper one week later. Yes, I know we take a chance and that's their policy, but warning to all - when booking in advance there's a very good chance you'll be hit with a higher price. Hotwire argues the price of the car can go up or down but almost in every instance that I've booked with them, the price decreases after purchase. A small price differential is one thing - but $100... Watch out for their practices and by the way, their customer service staff is horrible. I'll avoid them in future.

I know that you cannot change or cancel a reservation on Hotwire. For my last trip I booked 5 nights in Arizona and purchased the travel insurance. I ended up getting sick, bronchitis. Trying to use the travel insurance is IMPOSSIBLE unless maybe you died, but then you wouldn't be making a claim.. would you?? So stupid. I read the rules that were posted on the site, that day. It did not explain all of the HOOPS you have to go to for them to even consider the claim. I lost $600 and will never use Hotwire again. Their ratings of rooms are ALWAYS higher than other sites; meaning they falsely advertise. I'm just waiting for the day a class action lawsuit is filed against them!

In the end the credit card company removed the purchase, which according to Hotwire never existed! Fraudulent activity, please beware!!!

I made a reservation through Hotwire for a car rental at Alamo. We were flying into Orlando. Hotwire told me I could save $200 if I used an Alamo site that was 2.1 miles from the terminal and they had a shuttle that I could use. Being a bit leery I called and spoke with a person at Hotwire and they reassured me that there was a shuttle and it was 2.1 miles from the terminal. I got in Orlando and went to the Alamo desk to inquire about the shuttle, and was told that there wasn't one and that the site was 16 miles from there. I then called Hotwire for assistance, was on the phone for over an hour, was put on hold for who knows how long. Ended up using a different rental agency and paying quite a bit more for something different. I called Hotwire when I got home about this problem and it seems that it's my problem not Hotwire's.

The pictures from the previous customers who stayed in this place was bad. I been a value customer for HOTWIRE for the past 7 Years or more. I spoke to the agent and his supervisor. I asked them to Google the hotel and to see. They did and said my purchase was final and they will not refund my money, neither change the hotel for me.

I told them I will close my Hotwire account and they will lose me as a value customer. The supervisor closed my Hotwire account. Please, use Hotels.com or Expedia as they at least show you the Hotel name and real pictures. This Hotel in the top of an Apartment Building, there is no way it can be more than two stars. Hotwire.com takes no responsibility for the companies on their site. If there is a mistake, it's your responsibility to contact the company. I rented a car because Hotwire.com said it was unlimited mileage. The car rental charge me an additional 28 dollars for going over 70 miles. Hotwire customer service just kept on saying that they have nothing to do with what the car rental charges. So what's the benefit of going through Hotwire if they don't even know what their vendors mean. So beware if you rent a car through Hotwire because they might advertise unlimited mileage, they don't mean it.

Finally reached them and they told me that the room descriptions were different. The ONLY thing different about them were the order the amenities were in. Same EXACT room except the Hotwire one listed the continental breakfast first and the other site listed the free parking first. Completely ridiculous! Will never, ever use Hotwire again. I have booked with Hotwire several times. I booked a hotel today that stated it was 75% recommended, an excellent deal, and near the beach. When I found out which hotel they had given me, I searched for the reviews online, and every site had the worst reviews I've ever seen for a hotel in my life. Bed bugs, roaches, mosquitoes, a loud train in the back, dirty rooms, bathrooms, etc. It was something out of a horror tv series about nasty hotels or something. I called to inform them of this within 30 mins of booking the room, and they showed zero concern and told me that I was aware of their policy. So I forfeit what I paid for that room, since no one would ever stay there, and I had to book another room NOT through Hotwire. It is very clear that they do not monitor the quality of hotels on their site and are severely lacking in the customer service department. I am no longer a Hotwire customer.

I was looking online to reserve a hotel. I noticed that Hotwire had OK prices. I called and spoke to agent Mark expressing my concerns about the city I was traveling to. I stated that I would like a hotel close to the airport because I was picking someone up very late and I had concerns about safety. The customer stated that his system is designed to automatically pick a hotel within an specified shaded area on Hotwire's webpage. He also mentioned that I should not be too far out of the way. Being this my first time I trusted Mark and proceeded to purchase a ticket online.

After I purchased my ticket I was given a hotel 4.7 miles away from the airport right on the edge of the shaded area. Because of this being my first time traveling to Newark NY and reading about the city being number 6 worst in America, wanted something close as I was promised by Mark who said that it would be. 4.7 miles away is not close So I called back and spoke to Marlo who was very very unprofessional and treated me like I was another customer. Marlo stated that he couldn't do anything for me but then he changed his mind and told me that if I purchase another room now while he is on the phone then he will refund me.

I don't understand, why would I purchase another room paying more money just to get a refund from Hotwire. I literally reserved a room 10 min before calling him. Marlo stated that he could give me 24 hours to reserve if he processes the refund now. It's a Saturday here and even if he gave me a refund today, banks do not process on Sunday so the 24 hours grace period to purchase another room would have passed. I stated that to Marlo and I also stated that I had purchased the insurance on the ticket. Marlo stated that the insurance could only be used if I'm sick or loss of job. Really?

Now I feel ripped off. The insurance said I could cancel anytime but I was told otherwise by Marlo. Then after trying to explain this Marlo changed his mind and stated that he couldn't do anything for me. I tried to talk but he continued to cut me off when I was speaking. That made me upset, how rude. HOTWIRE I WILL NEVER, NEVER BUY FROM YOU EVER AGAIN. Your company is misleading, I feel trapped and your agent Marlo was darn right disrespectful, which looks overall looks bad for your whole company. I can't believe this.

I've used this service 3 times now and was never disappointed. However, today when I purchased 3 nights in Paris (hotel was described as 3-star with advertised price of $261) for $119 per night, I was shocked when I searched the regular price of the hotel and found all websites show the price per night as $141 (including their sister website Hotels.com). A reduction in price of $22 a night is hardly worth not knowing the name, exact location and other details. It's completely misleading to compare a $147 a night hotel with one priced at $261 and had I known that, I wouldn't have made the purchase.

My concerns were escalated to a supervisor who advised me that all sales are final and I should've read the fine print which apparently states the pricing information is not based on the hotel but the area. Wow - unbelievable. I do quite a bit of travelling and have also used the same service with Priceline and have never had an issue. Hotwire has certainly lost my business and I think everyone who considers purchasing through Hotwire should be aware of this practice.

I tried to call and change the date to the 19th but waited many hours over a period of a couple of weeks before getting to speak to anyone. I eventually waited them out and got to speak with Mark. Mark had a heavy accent but had no problem understanding my problem. He informed me that I had to make any change within 24 hours and I explained I did not realize my mistake until I got home a week after the reservation and he informed me nothing could be done that I could pick up the car on the 19th as long as it was within 24 hours of the original reservation. I told him it might be more like 28 to 30 hours before I got there and he informed me that I would lose my entire rental.

I've used Hotwire many times in the past. The thing with Hotwire is that you can't expect much when booking a hotel through them. For example, a 4-star hotel in New York City is not going to be a large, luxurious room like some people think. You will get a queen size bed at possibly the W New York or the Westin Grand Central for around $280 a night (normally in the $350 a night range), plus taxes and service charges of around 20%. In Orlando, a 4-star was the Hyatt Regency at $169 a night, when the regular rate was $209, a decent savings, but nothing to write home about. I did get a great deal in San Francisco when I booked the Westin St Francis hotel at $139 a night, compared to the normal rate of $305 per night. The room was SMALL, under 200 square feet, but I saved a good bit of money.

The worst deal I got was at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans, which was rated a 5-star hotel. I paid $270 a night for a old, outdated, musty room. They had renovated rooms which they wanted an additional $120 a night to upgrade to. In short, Hotwire is like gambling, it can be hit or miss. Just don't expect to stay at a Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, or St. Regis for $150 a night, it will NEVER happen!

I booked a car rental from 6:30pm on Feb 27th to 6:30 pm on Mar 2nd. During the process of choices, I checked for many times and it showed the day span is 3 days, with the price at $30/day. Also, I added insurance which is $9 daily. I am very confident that I did it, because I discussed with my boyfriend before making this decision.

Thus, before I clicked the "confirm" button, the total price is 30 (for rental per day) *3 days + 9 (insurance)*3 days +40 (tax) = about 160. Since the total price on the confirmation was also about $160, I didn't go through the details on that day on Jan 19th. However, today I found that actually on the reservation there are two mismatches from what I selected. It changed the drop off time to be 1 hour later, so that the day span has been changed to 4 days!!! It showed no insurance in this order!!! The total amount after these two mistakes is still around $160. That was why I didn't realize it right away.

Today I called Hotwire and told them what happened to me. They rejected to do any efforts and insisted what were shown in the reservation was done by me. I explained that I am sure about my selections on both time and insurance. For example, my flight will leave Miami at 7pm, so it is impossible that I planned to return the car at 7:30pm. Then, the agent hung up the phone without any notification or solutions. This is the worst experience I have ever had with travel agency ever. The lesson is: DON'T CHOOSE HOTWIRE!

I received an email from Hotwire, indicating that the hotel for which I received a reservation confirmation is overbooked, and while I can appreciate that new accommodations were made on my behalf, I am very disappointed with the lack of accountability demonstrated for this error. I spoke to a representative over the phone regarding this change in my reservation, and I explained that according to the current published rates at the replacement hotel (on their website), I am not receiving any kind of discount on my reservation whatsoever.

In other words, I booked through hotwire.com in order to receive a discounted rate on my booking, but due to this oversight, I am actually paying the full published rate for the alternative hotel, as per their own website. I am planning on staying in New York for an additional night (Sunday, Feb 15) and suggested that perhaps as compensation, this extra night could be added to my reservation. I was told that this was not possible, and furthermore, that nothing at all could be done to account for the difference in value and inconvenience that I am left with.

While I was offered the option of cancelling my reservation with a refund, the fact is that I am 3 days away from arriving in New York, and hotel prices have increased significantly from the time at which I booked. I would be remiss if I did not express how unacceptable I believe it is, for no accountability to be taken on Hotwire's behalf, and moreover, I am frustrated that there is an outright refusal to acknowledge the difference in value of the two reservations. I travel quite a bit, and will NEVER again book through Hotwire.
