We booked online because FOX were the lowest price. And in our reservation, it says the final price is $200 for 2 weeks. However, when we were about to pick up the car, the front-desk told us that the price is $500... We were told to have to buy the insurance, which is $120; and were told that we have to buy the toll payment coverage, which is $100 more; and last, the car given to us is not the one we reserved online but a smaller one...

Stated that they were honoring our contract for a compact. Gave us a subcontract. When we returned it and discovered that our tiny car was indeed a subcompact, they said there was nothing they could do. Assumed this was because we booked through Expedia. Now they tell Expedia that they won’t refund the difference between what we got and what we paid for because we didn’t insist on a resolution on return of the car (told there was nothing to do/needed to catch a plane!)

2 days ago, we rented a premium 12 seater van. After 3 hours of driving cockroaches was discovered crawling up the back of the front passenger seat. Then more came out from under the driver's seat. They were all different sizes. One was carrying an egg. After hours of phone calls, they finally told us to drive back to exchange another 12 seater van. They offered a little discount for our inconvenience. Our entire day was lost from our vacation to take care of this ordeal. We just discovered another cockroach today. We are flying back to CA tomorrow and have limited time. We asked if they can help us fumigate our belongings and they refused. Has anyone else have this problem from the Miami location?

Please let this be a warning to anyone looking to rent a car: DO NOT USE FOX-RENT-A-CAR. I was initially drawn to them while looking for a car through Expedia because of their low prices and car options. When I called to alter my reservation to move the pick up time up for hours since my flight changed, the customer service reps at Expedia transferred me to Fox. This is where it all started to go bad. First, the Fox customer service rep tells me that it's not a problem, they can easily move my time up. He was wrong. He transferred me to another woman who basically called her co-worker dumb, and told me that if I wanted to change my time, I'd need to cancel my reservation through Expedia, remake it directly with Fox and it would be an additional $80 added to my total. I agreed and paid the extra $80 over the phone while making the new reservation with Fox.

When I arrive in Tampa, FL, the woman at the counter tells me that I should purchase damage coverage because of the possible hurricane coming for $25.99/day; I was told that if I didn't have it, I would be responsible for any damage to the vehicle (of course I purchase it and we have beautiful weather all week). I returned the car, no damage, everything looks good and I'm pleasantly surprised at how easy the return process was. My receipt with my $150.00 refund listed on it is emailed to me and I leave.

Two weeks after coming home, I get a bill for about $50; I honestly don't pay much attention to it, pay the bill and think it's all over. A week after that, I get a second bill for $66. Apparently, which the woman who convinced me to by damage protection neglected to tell me, Fox does not cover toll payments despite the sticker in the top corner of the windshield that says "SunPass Equipped." My second bill says that I owe $6 in tolls and another $60 in administrative fees!

When I called to speak with a representative, I wasn't able to speak with anyone, only automated responses. Through those responses I come to find out that an affidavit was submitted to the State of Florida on my behalf by Fox because I went through tolls illegally. I was never told, nor was it on the contract I signed, that I would be responsible for tolls; I even have a copy of the contract that was emailed to me which I reviewed with a fine tooth comb. Through the automated responses, I am also told that I should be expecting a ticket from the State of Florida, which I will also have to pay. There goes my "refund"!! Thank you Fox-Rent-A-Car for teaching me to NEVER book with you again.

    1. At the counter, the lady lied to me the price is confidential. How can they make business with clients without noticing price?! It turned out a trick that they want to charge you more. 2. They have weird terms that I never heard before. When you signed, I asked them to explain the keys of the terms and they refused. It turned out a trap again which they can catch you for extra charge!!! 3. I figured out all these and they were mad at me. Said no car for me with pride like a judge. 4. I rent car for vacation every year. I was shocked and never had such experiences which cannot be worst. 5. This happened at Fox at Salt Lake City! Avoid them if you do not want trouble!

We had a horrible experience with Fox. My husband, two young children (3,4 YO) and I had a reservation to rent a car in Chicago Aug 21-27, 2019 from Fox. When we got to our destination (after a 6.5 hour delay from our airline), there were NO CARS AVAILABLE. I know what you’re thinking, maybe you got there too late and they gave away your car. Nope. When we were told our flight was being delayed, we called Fox and they redid our reservation to accommodate the time delay because they can’t guarantee a reservation 3 hours past the original pick up time (also a stupid rule). And we paid more to do that. Also, we were among 6 other couples/individuals/families that had reservations and this location of Fox rent a car had NO VEHICLES for any of us.

My husband went to a different rental car company and was given a car within 30 minutes. While I waited with my two kids for my husband to come back to Fox, several more people were disappointed with the lack of vehicles despite the fact that they ALL HAD RESERVATIONS!!! This was the most insane experience I’ve ever had at any company, not just rental cars. Also, we had to spend an additional $100 to get a car on the spot because most people have reservations. And our reservation didn’t mean a darn thing at Fox because they didn’t have a car to match up to our reservation. It was a miserable situation because we had been delayed 6.5 hours and stuck in an airport with our 3 & 4 year olds and exhausted. We arrived to Fox in Chicago at 2am, only to find out there were no cars for us!!!! I can’t express my disappointment more than I already am. We were all livid.

The lady told me that my reservation was cancelled because I was late. I asked to book another one. The lady told me a price was more than four times more expensive than I booked online. They don’t take any explain and they don’t give any alternative. They were not pleasant to talk with either. This experience made me down even next day. I will never do business with them again.

In short: The checkout process took over two hours with one person at the desk and about 20 of us waiting for cars. The car was older, 40K+, and filthy inside. We used a blanket to cover the rear seat. Tires out of alignment and a bump/rattle in the rear wheels. When checking in I forgot my glasses and when I returned to find them the car was already rented again and they had thrown my glasses in the trash. A worker "found" them and returned them to me as I was filling out a lost/found form. Not a good experience. I'll pay a little extra next time and choose a different company.

Returned from a Miami cruise on a Saturday morning and needed a rent a car in a pinch. Another member in our group recommended Fox Rent A Car so made the reservation, caught the bus to the airport and then Fox's shuttle to their airport off site location. A very industrial area, but not an issue for me. Made my way to the counter w/in 10 minutes of arrival and began the "read and initial/sign everything" from a cellphone sized tablet. Knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I opted for the Plate Pass toll option for $8.99 because there is NOWHERE in South Florida one can drive without using a toll road. (Unless you live there, know ALL the back roads and don't travel very far.)

After payment was made, $150 hold + $30 rental [$7 was the rental amount and the difference $23 was taxes, fees & other charges (I assumed)], the agreement was printed and handed over for proof of the rental. Didn't pay attention at the time, but the entire middle section of the agreement was BLANK. Apparently, this is where only what you agree to is printed. Returned the car 24 hours later and flew back to NC.

As promised, the $150 was refunded back to my card a few days later and all was well... So I thought. Two Weeks later I received a bill from Fox Rent A Car for $47.74 (3 tolls totaling $2.74 and $45 in administrative fees). Called to find out why my Plate Pass did not take care of this and was told I clearly declined the Plate Pass option (visible ONLY from their screen) and it was my responsibility to read the blank printed copy of the agreement. Can't support a business that operates like this. First and last time I used Fox Rent A Car for my car rental needs.

I tried corresponding with a customer service agent and that was awful. I booked using Expedia and reserved a Jeep Compass or similar. When we arrived it was almost 10:00 pm, ALL vehicles in our class that we reserved were a Hyundai or a Mitsubishi, which in my opinion are not even close to comparable to a Jeep, a total downgrade. I mention the time we arrived as it was late, and there wasn't much I could do with this and just had to take a car so we could get on our way. We went through the 10-12 cars there we could choose from and none were up to my standards. They were dirty on the outside, the inside, and had bad smells.

The one we got was the cleanest on the outside, but had the worst wet dog smell. In addition to that the service required light kept popping up! The customer service agent is unwilling to do the refund I requested, offered a credit of 25.00 and we have no Fox near us. She is also under the impression we were offered and received an upgrade. No idea where she got that information. We were not, we were given a Hyundai and that is nowhere near a Jeep.

One star is the lowest I was allowed to rate. It was sad how poor the service was. Started with a pickup from the airport that took about 25 minutes for the shuttle. Then the person at the counter attempted to charge me $374. on a $84. rental, but luckily I had all my confirmation information, Then he proceeded to lie to me in order to jack the rental up to almost $150. He lied and told me that all over FL required tolls from the airport out to anyplace I go and if I didn't get the toll pass for $8.00 per day, it would cost me $15.+ toll per toll and I would end up paying way more. He then went on to say that if I didn't get the gas waiver from them, then I would be charged a lot more because there is no gas in FL. That was a complete lie. All gas stations were open and sold gas.

They were clearly taking full advantage of tourist and the expected Hurricane that didn't impact us. I had stopped him as he was trying to boost it up to $270 by telling me that even though I have full coverage, my insurance would never cover it. Then they send you to a low lit lot at almost 10:30 pm and say pick a car from row 3 which is some parts in a large puddle, but the cars smelled of smoke, which I pointed out to the person checking them out and all she could say was, "I guess the person before was smoking when they shouldn't have and probably got fined the $250.00." I travel quite often and rent cars, but this is the first time I ever left the counter feeling completely raped and ripped off.

We waited for a second shuttle & when we got to the rental building, we waited another hour to get to the counter. The clerks were not at all helpful, and ours had a rude attitude before we even started asking questions. She told us not to pre-pay for tolls and today we got a bill for $140 just for the tolls we had for the week. We picked up our car in a dark parking lot & were told that we needed to record any scratches or problems. Thankfully we noticed that the windshield was cracked before we left the parking lot or I'm sure we would have been charged for that too. We will never use Fox again.

I travel a lot and use various car companies. I’m currently in Denver and booked Fox Rent A Car. We waited at airport over 40 minutes for pick up. Shuttle had no AC in 90 degree weather. Complained when we got to rental center. They didn’t care. Waited another 40 minutes in line for assistance then another 1hr and 20 minutes to get a car. The first 3 cars were nasty inside. Not just floors. Food on seats and in cup holders. Seats had stains where they had not been cleaned in the front and back of all 3 cars. Finally after waiting they took one of the cars to the car wash area and cleaned the seats so we could leave. The upgrade car they offered us was also nasty inside. They’d did not care and said there was nothing they could do. Either take the car or go somewhere else.

We prepaid through Rentalcars.com. Note to anyone, do not rent from them in Denver. There were numerous people waiting had same problem. Also there were people waiting outside to go back to airport that had been waiting 30 minutes. Vans were there but no one concerned. We are leaving tomorrow and will have to leave early because we know in advance returning the car and getting to airport will be a long process. We missed our dinner reservations the first night due to Fox. They have the worst Customer Service I have ever experienced.

First of all, the line to get the car was over 1 hour. We tried repeatedly to cancel the reservation online but were informed we could not this close to the rental time.

When finally we got to the check in desk we were informed that FOX THEMSELVES had cancelled the car rental - without telling us and even though we were told WE couldn't cancel it. The Fox employee at the desk was not courteous or empathetic at all and basically communicated "We're the cheapest so you get what you pay for." They finally found a car for us to fulfill our rental. On top of this already horrible experience they directly billed us for tolls after our trip and tacked on extra processing fees, etc. I don't like to bad mouth companies or rant online, but I would strongly discourage renting from Fox based on our experiences.

I have rented from Fox several times before, also in San Diego, so I am writing this because of one very poor experience today. The rental agent was great but when we went to the second floor there was a guy who said, "Take your choice of two vehicles," and then he disappeared. Not quite knowing what to do, we got in one and drove to the exit where we were second in line. The female attendant directed the car ahead of us around to a parking area about 40 feet away. There, she engaged that customer in a very long conversation lasting well more than 5 minutes and the back up of vehicles behind us grew to 3 other cars in line waiting to get out. Finally she came back and we proceeded to go around the vehicle to record the nicks and scratches and dents.

She had a preprinted diagram with several areas of dents indicated but not the back bumper and door which had deep penetrating dents which I pointed out to her which were not recorded on her diagram. She said it didn't matter since we had insurance to cover it. I said that was not sufficient and I wanted those areas of dents on the back bumper and door indicated on the form. She got very uppity saying "I know my job" and "don't talk to me like that" when all I was doing was objecting to her direction to me to just forget about it since my insurance would cover it. Feeling like this was some sort of devious trap, I insisted that she indicate on the form the dents on the back of the vehicle which she refused to write in the same space as the other dent descriptions at the bottom of the form.

She would only check the box on the back right of the vehicle description with a note in the upper portion, "dent". She was really insulting to me and tried to make it seem like I was being unreasonable and pretty much abusing her with my sticking up for my rights. At no time did she act like a person who cared one bit for me or the logic of my trying to leave the facility with a proper accounting of the damage on the vehicle I was renting. In fact, I have never had such a bad experience renting a vehicle in this country and in others. I am very, very angry that I was treated in such a manner and will never rent from Fox again.

Last week I rented a car from the Orlando airport Fox off-site location.

    1. The representative, of course, offered several additional services, which I declined. I told him I wanted to pay the amount I was quoted for during my booking thru Expedia ($175 including taxes and fees) and he said ok. When he gave me the contract to sign, I noticed a line showing $12.99/day for something. I immediately asked him to explain and he told me not to worry about it and that I would only pay the $175 (plus deposit.) He even wrote "total charge $175 + $150 deposit" for the second time at the bottom of the contract! When I got the final bill by email, the charges were actually $266, which means that they added the $12.99/day. I have sent messages thru the Fox website. I have also complained to the corporate office by phone and have been told they would look into this matter, but have not received call back after 3 days!

    2. Another problem I caught on time was with the gas in the tank. You know how they say full to full. Well, after I picked up the vehicle and was about one mile away, I noticed that the gas tank was only at 1/4. I immediately turned back to the rental place and had them note it in the contract, which they did. However, had I not done that, I would have had to pay a penalty for bringing the car back with only 1/4 tank.

    3. Finally, and probably the scariest part of this terrible experience, I returned the car a couple of hours earlier than scheduled. The agency was understaffed and I was told by the receiving person just to leave the keys inside the vehicle and that I would get the final receipt by email. I was hesitant to do that, but I did it anyway after consulting with the only person inside the office. I notice all other customers were doing the same thing, "leaving the keys inside and taking the bus to the airport." 24 hours went by and I still did not have my receipt. I immediately contacted the main office and was told that their computer did not show the vehicle being returned!!! Just imagine how I felt at that moment!!!! They said they would send an email to the local office regarding this matter. Finally, 48 hours later I got the emailed receipt! Those 48 hours caused me a lot of stress and anxiety!

On the way back the vehicle kept turning off in the middle of the highway. Dangerous at 75mph. We called Fox at approx 4pm and they said they would have a replacement vehicle in three hours. They did not arrive until past 11pm (seven hours). We were travelling with a one year old and had to check in to a hotel at a cost of $101 for the night. Furthermore, we lost the reservation we had in the middle of the trip. Thus far, they have not adjusted for the problem and inconvenience we experienced. Will escalate and see how they handle the problem.

I had to fill out an accident form and the inspector said I would not be charged. Next thing I know is I lose my 150.00 deposit for the ding. The car smelt like dirty feet when we got it. We were also hit with several add on fees that made the car cost about 20.00 more per day than other rental companies. This car rental cost me more than the plane flight, the hotel or any other big purchase on the trip. Save your money.

I booked a rental car from the Orlando location for our Disney Vacation- July 2019. As an experienced traveler - I will have to say DO NOT EVER book a rental vehicle with this company! We arrived at the airport and easily found the pickup point - this was the ONLY good part of this experience. We were shuttled to an off-site location and when we (a family of 5) arrived at the location - it was packed with at least 60 people - this is a small building and it was very hot - because the doors were being held open for people to be able to stand in line.

We arrived at the location at 12:15 pm. We stood in the line for 2 1/2 hours before getting up to the counter. During our time in line - there were on average 3 people working the counter - once in a while someone else would come work - maybe for 15-20 minutes and then leave. This is the worst customer service I have experienced! I wish I would have paid the $150 extra and rented a car from the airport rental car companies - it would've been so worth the extra $150.

Once we got up to the counter - we were told that they were out of the SUV that we had booked a month prior - they only had a minivan available and that was an upgrade they weren't charging us for. Really a full size SUV to a minivan is an upgrade? But, what could we do at that point - wait in line for another 2 hours of our vacation? Then the representative went through the contract with us and told us that if we brought the car back early - we would be charged a fee - what???? This is not a reputable business --- Run away! BEWARE!!!! Do not use this company EVER! I know I will NEVER use Fox again to rent a car.

After trying to upsell me on absolutely everything (including 4 days of a toll plate gizmo, at 5 times the price of the Golden Gate toll, the full fuel angle, insurance for this, that and the other), I finally got my car. I kid you not, I thought it had been in a accident!? More dents, scratches, dings, than you could document. I called over an employee, after taking time stamped pictures, and asked for his assurance no one would suggest I had caused this damage on return. When asked how they got away with renting a car in such condition, he replied “If you want a good car, you shouldn’t rent with Fox!” Couldn’t say it better myself...

Avoid this company at all costs! We rented a car for 12:00 noon and did not leave the facility until 2:30pm. Customer service was terrible. The agent who checked us in was slow and didn't seem to care that people were waiting in line. Even after the paperwork, the car was not ready. He said it had to go through the car wash. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 1/2 an hour passed. Still no car. We asked for the manager. We looked in the car wash. There were a dozen cars in line to go through. Ours was not one of them. I have never seen a more disorganized rental car company and definitely have never waited so long to get the car. If you have to be somewhere fast, you'll be late if you rent a car from Fox. What a joke! If time is money, pay more at a different company because you will spend hours waiting for your rental car.

We had a terrible experience with this company. First, there was a long line to get to the counter and then it took a long time to get our reservation sorted out. It was over an hour before we were given keys to our car. Second, we were promised a Jeep Grand Cherokee and were given a Dodge Journey, an inferior car. Third, there were problems with the car and nobody able to answer questions. We had to figure things out for ourselves.

Four, we were sold a full tank of gas and after we left the airport, we realized we only had a 1/3 of a tank. We were later refunded this charge, but not without a fight. Five, the worst thing was that we were given a car with a bald tire. This tire blew out during our rental. When we called for help, we were put on hold for hours and hours. We never got through until the next day. We had to drive with the "noodle" tire for over 100 miles before we could get the tire replaced. I took a picture of the bald tire. The mechanic at the tire store said that all four tires were beyond their replacement use. I showed my picture of the bald tire when returning the car and the agent told me it looked good to him and wanted to charge us for the new tire. It took quite a fight to get him to back down.

Six, this is the last straw. After returning home we got a letter saying that we were on a toll road and that they were charging us $4.30 for the toll, plus a $15.00 administration fee. I sent the company documentation that we were not in the area of this toll road. Still, they insist on charging us for this toll and fee. So in conclusion, don't rent from this disaster of a company.

It was not until night time when I realized that the headlights were completely out of adjustment. I tried to call the service department by phone and that was another disaster. It took three days for someone to return my calls. When I returned the car and complained about all of these issues I was told that: "We are not Hertz or Avis, we are a low budget rent a car company.” So, be aware, you will get what you will pay for.

Via Expedia, I rented a Dodge Charger with Fox Rent A Car. I did not know that Fox Rent a Car had no desk at Miami Airport. We had to wait outside in the heat and humidity over 35 minutes before the shuttle arrived, even if their facility is only 5 minutes driving distance from the airport. While waiting I tied to call Fox Rent A Car. i was on hold for over 20 minutes, listening to BS like "we are customer oriented" or " we have more than 10 callers before you", etc. During these 35 minutes we saw other shuttles twice! Once at Fox Rent A Car facility, we had to wait a long time, because the two managers on duty were awfully slow. When my turn arrived I understood why. They forced me to pay for their Sunpass (for the toll roads payment), even if I told them that I had my own Sunpass. Unlike other rental companies they cannot deactivate their Sunpass.

They inform me that they will charge me an additional $1,000 deposit because I rented a premium vehicle, but when I will return the vehicle the reimbursement will be immediate. When I returned the vehicle I have been informed that it will take 5 business days to be reimbursed these $1,000. They forced me to take their minimum insurance, despite the fact that I told them that my auto insurance company was covering any rental car in the USA. They asked me to show them a proof of insurance, which I did not carry with me. Fortunately, I was able to find something in my laptop. The vehicle had over $56K, with several scratches (some were not indicated on the contract), and evidently, even if it is forbidden to smoke, a former client smoked in the vehicle, which was not smelling good and had not been properly sanitized. Lessons learned, I will NEVER rent again with this company.

The representative was rude and unprofessional. He made up for it by offering me a much lower rate than Avis. Upon arriving in SFO shortly before midnight (yes late flight) but I reserved a full size SUV to accommodate my children and I for our vacation. I was told by the woman at the counter that they had no full sized vehicles left, and that I should go take my children and our luggage back upstairs to find another car rental company that may or not help. I was livid. I said I reserved with FOX not anyone else, and at this point my children are tired and hungry. She laughed and said it was happening all day and there was nothing they could do.

I had to make a decision and toting my infant child and three other children at that hour to another rent a car company was not happening. So, I settled a smaller SUV which we had to pile in and it had no trunk space, after we let out the folding seats in the far back. It was just a horrible experience and I would never rent from FOX Rent A Car again, let alone recommend them to my family or friends. The customer service is horrible, and they only offered me 20% for my troubles. 20% off didn’t make up for my time, my having to pile luggage on my children, listening to the lady at the counter use profanity in front of my teenaged daughter or the inconvenience of having to take two cars instead of one any where I visited. I will NEVER do business with them again!

I am currently renting a Fox Rent A car. I am so unhappy it is hard to describe. Fox has taken what was a great vacation and turned it into a nightmare! It started with the fact that there is NO Fox counter at Newark Liberty. I had to ask 5 different workers where to find Fox. I then was told I had to call to get a shuttle. The shuttle took one hour and 15 minutes to pick us up. At the counter they said we were late so our reservation was no longer valid! But they then decided we could get our car! Then the man at the rental counter then told us that because Drive-O/Fox doesn't open till 8 AM we have to drop off the car and call for a shuttle, and if we miss it we don't get a second chance! This is your attempt at customer service?? Then we are being charged $15 to use the E-ZPass, for just 2 one dollar tolls! So we are paying $17 for $2 in tolls!!!

I called Fox customer service and after waiting 35 minutes for a call back I told all of this and much more to the representative and all she would tell me is "There is nothing I can do" 3 times. I asked her to speak to her superior and she refused. I said while on hold I had to listen to the Fox recording say that Fox' #1 concern is customer service and total customer satisfaction. I asked her if I sounded satisfied, she did not answer! In summary my wife and I absolutely loathe Fox! We will never rent from Fox again. We will post our displeasure on every rating site we can as well as Facebook and will tell ALL of our friends to stay as far away from Fox as they can. So Angry, Pete

On June 1, 2019, around 10 or 11 pm, my family (including my 5yo son) were driving on 1-5 in Seattle Washington. When traffic slowed for construction we were rear-ended violently by a young woman driving a Fox Rent-a-car. The car that hit us was driving so fast when she struck us that our cars became locked together and the police had to stop traffic on the highway to help us move to the shoulder and call and call a tow truck to separate us. The rental car looked close to totaled and was not driveable. We were able to drive home, however, extensive damage was done to our vehicle and my son was mildly hurt in the crash.

Each day (now totaling 18) we have called Fox Rent-a-car to attempt to resolve the issue. Our insurance company has also repeatedly attempted to contact the company to no avail. The Fox claims department answering service states that someone will call back within 2 business days to resolve any claims. This has never happened. No one from any department, and we have called several, has attempted to work with us to resolve the problem, fix the damage to our car or deal with our claim in any way. We have sent emails, left messages and even resorted to speaking with their Roadside assistance team. Nothing. After nearly 3 weeks, we are convinced that the company is deliberately not responding to our attempts to resolve this matter.

The only people we have been able to speak with have been in Roadside Assistance and they simply send us back to the Claims department. During one call on June 19, 2019, at 11:30am, I asked for the name of any individual with whom I could speak in the Claims department, in addition to their general call-in line, the representative refused to give me his name, the name of any manager or any person in claims to speak with. He informed me at the top of the call that my call was being recorded.

When it became clear that he was not going to help in any way, I wanted a record of his refusal to provide additional contacts and his essentially lying in saying that he "has no supervisor and neither do his colleagues". I asked for access to the recording at which point he told me I didn't need it and hung up on me. This business is refusing responsibility for this accident and for the damage they have done to our person and our vehicle. They should be held accountable for these actions.

They are not honest or truthful about the size of car you have reserved. If I reserve a mid-size I get an economy or compact. If I reserve a full-sized I get a mid-sized. Last week I reserved a full-sized at San Jose, CA. The first car I was given was missing the gas tank cover and the gas tank lid. The car had been washed so I assume water was probably in the tank, too.

I was told it was a full size. I checked the list later and that is not the case. The month before I was given a little tiny car and told it was a mid-sized. The lines are always long and I think they trying to find a car for you as you wait. If you don't have the car that was reserved you should give a bigger size not a smaller one if you want to have a good business. I always feel like I was cheated. I narrowly caught a baby roach crawling inches from my five month old infant's ear on the back of their car seat and my seven year old daughter screamed and jumped out of the car in the middle of a parking lot to escape a roach climbing on the door next to her. When I returned the car and informed manager Ron ** of the situation he treated us like dirt, like we were some kind of scam artists, and accused us of bringing the roaches into the car. Impossible - we were staying in an immaculate, high-end condo.

At no point did he apologize or express any concern for us or our children. His tone was suspicious and defensive. He said that the best he could do for us was to waive the charge for an additional day for dropping off the car late - we dropped it within 10 minutes of the time we had been issued the car on the day we rented it (after having waited line for nearly an hour to be served)! When I told him I found his offer of waiving an additional charge he shouldn't have leveled in the first place unacceptable he became angry and directed his staff to rescind the offer and to charge us for the additional day and told us, "you can find your own way back to the airport".

I'm standing there, with my partner and my two kids - a seven year old daughter and a five month old infant daughter, and our pile of strollers, car seat and suitcases, and he is standing there, red-faced, telling us in anger that we can't even get on his shuttle to go to the airport. At first we thought he was racist (our family is ** and South Asian) which he likely is, but after reading the other Yelp reviews it seems like he is also just an equal opportunity horrible human being.

At that point we returned to the car to finish collecting our belongings, took what photos we could of the roaches and roach eggs that were visible on the floor, and left for the airport (his staff figured out a way to get us onto the shuttle).

The next leg of our vacation was to stay with friends in Oakland, CA for two days before returning home to Tacoma, WA. Because we did not want to trail roaches into our friend's home, we were forced to rent a hotel for the first night and to cancel time with our friends the next day in order to spend more than five hours sorting and washing/disinfecting our belongings at the laundromat. Lost time and money - at least $100.00 between the hotel and laundromat. I have never in my life had such a horrific customer service experience or been treated in such a horrendously disrespectful manner by any company or employee. I sought redress from Fox National, which said their hands were tied because the affiliate was privately owned - they contacted the affiliate's manager in the area and that person was only willing to refund us $30.00 for the entire ordeal and kept insisting that we brought the roaches into the car.

Reading the Yelp reviews (which I should have done before booking but didn't because I booked via Alaska Airlines) by Fox staff's logic, damn near everyone who rents with Fox must be carrying roaches on them then. They clearly know their nasty company is infested but choose to lie and treat customers like crap instead of doing anything about it. With so many complaints about the same issue - which is a public health issue - a roach could have crawled in my infant daughter's ear! They should be shut down.

Also, they seem to be using other companies to masque their ratings and complaints - what appears on my credit card statement is "All Save Car Rental 177 Halekuai St." and the email they sent me with photos of the car to document the dings and scratches (more than any rental car I have ever been issued) so that I would not be held liable for them when I rented it came from "Kihei Auto Sales". This company is shady as hell from top to bottom. I will never rent from Fox anywhere again.

I asked him to refund my money back and I don't need his stupid car, "Are you sure? This will be bad for your record" (another stupid comment). I insisted for my refund and full cancelation, I got my refunded money stuck for almost a week, contacted VIP Cars. They shifted me to Avis using the same amount of their agency fees. I paid the same amount which I originally booked in the first time 270$*9 days with upgraded car. This is one example of the worst companies that ** people. Shocked to arrive to the Fox Rental Car desk (in San Antonio airport) to find out they gave away the rental car I had reserved!!! I had booked this through rentalcars.com a few weeks prior with no issues, I had specifically requested a SUV Jeep Compass or similar. When I arrived to the desk I was told the SUV they had reserved for me was given away earlier, but they had a Mitsubishi Mirage... I asked the agent if that was similar to a Jeep Compass (knowing full well it isn't) and she told me no but that was all they had.

I told her to cancel the reservation, and confirmed there would be no charge to my credit card as this was their fault. No sincere apology from the agent, she had a blase attitude about it. I spent several minutes asking other rental car agencies if they had any available vehicles and 90% of them were booked due to visitors coming in for military basic training graduation. I did find one agency that had a vehicle left, way overpriced but I was in need of a car.

I arrived at Tampa airport and waited an hour online only to be told by Thalia, the agent that my driver’s license was expired. I had just flown in from NY and apparently grabbed the wrong one. Thalia was unfriendly and unhelpful, told me there was nothing she could do. I explained that I had flown in from NY and had no way to get to my destination, and she shrugged her shoulders, clearly indicating that she did not care. I asked to speak to her manager and she told me that he would say the same thing. I told her that it did not matter, I would still like to speak to him. She gave me a phone number of customer service.

I called, waited on hold for 37 minutes, then was connected to an agent, who asked if I minded be placed on hold again, and promptly hung up and did not call back. I called again and agreed to a phone call back, and while I was waiting I went to the Thrifty car counter and spoke to a representative who told me to just have motor vehicle fax me a form that indicated my license was valid. He said that "this happens all of the time". I got my form and when Fox called back (another half of an hour), they hung up on me again. No callback.

I went back to the counter with my form from motor vehicle and went up to Thalia and asked her if this form was good enough. She looked at it and told me no and threw it back on the counter. I told her to call her manager as they had indicated on the phone that there was a variety of things that they could do, and Thalia shouted at me that she had customers ahead of me and I need to wait on line (which was twice as long as the first time). I left and rented the car from Thrifty. I will never deal with Fox again. This was not the first time I had a bad experience with them, and it was not worth the cost of the car to have to deal with them again. They also need to train their people to behave properly in a consumer service industry.

After reading some of the reviews there really isn't anything I can add. Long lines, forced to buy toll tag (which we never used) and insurance although we already had insurance. Explained when we rented the car there would be 4 people and a lot of luggage so we would need a large capacity SUV. When my husband finally got to the reservation desk he was told they had upgraded him and when actually got downstairs to the car it was a Jeep Wrangler. Our luggage would not fit in the back of the car.

Went to the lady that had just told us where the car was and explained the car would not work. She told us to go back upstairs and BUTT in line because there was nothing she could do. My husband said are you kidding me? There is a line a mile long and you think these people waiting in line are going to allow that? She said, "Oh it's okay. They won't mind." We stepped aside for a couple of minutes and then went back to this same women. She said she had talked to her supervisor and he said it was okay she could give us a bigger car. Expedia recommended Fox Rent A Car as it is the cheapest one! My flight came in at 7PM, had to wait 45 minutes for their shuttle so they can bring us to their site. Once we arrived at the site, there was a long line. It took 2 hours for me to get my car. There were only 2 1/2 customer reps assisting the tired customers. Like what Suzann said of SC, you'll be forced to buy their 3rd party liability even though you show them that you are covered. (I checked with my insurance and they said I am covered).

Not only that they'll ask you if you want to prepay the gas which is ridiculous as they charged you the full tank but they never explained that it will be non-refundable. So my $60.22/day rent became $92.96/day because of the add-on. They never sent me my final invoice so I have to call them and I was on hold for more than an hour waiting for their customer service to answer. If you can, rent from a reputable car rental. NOT FOX! I can't say enough bad things about this company. My price for rental (on Priceline) was $141. When I picked up the car I was informed that I HAD to purchase their liability insurance even though the Priceline site clearly stated that it was optional. My personal auto insurance covers rental cars (GEICO) and I had more than adequate coverage for the vehicle. I was quoted a price of $220 for the rental, THEIR liability insurance, and a full tank of gas. I told the representative that I didn't was a full tank of gas, only 1/2 tank as I wasn't driving much. That brought my total to just under $200. I also had to pay a $400 deposit since I used my debit card for the reservation (which I expected).

When I got to the vehicle it was obviously dirty. When I got into the vehicle there was a STRONG odor of **. There was also a sign posted inside the rental office that clearly stated that if a vehicle was returned with an odor of smoke that there would be a $350 detailing fee. Obviously, something went wrong with this vehicle. When I asked for another vehicle I was informed that I would have to "upgrade" to a full size vehicle if I didn't want that vehicle--and pay MORE. I elected to keep the vehicle instead of paying more AGAIN.

I drove with the windows down the entire week (in Denver). When I returned the vehicle my bill for the rental was changed to just under $220--what they originally wanted to charge me. When I questioned it I was told that the original clerk had made a mistake and that this would be the actual charge and they would take the additional amount out of my deposit--which they did. Horrible company to rent from. I will NEVER use them again. They reel you in with a low rental price. Don't fall for it!

I read several reviews online after I had already rented the vehicle and wish I would have read them first. What you think you will be paying ahead of time will not end up at that price. Once you get to the counter they will tack on all the extra fees, (tolls, pre-paid gas, insurance/waiver @ $22.00 a day, and whatever else they come up with.) In the end I paid almost twice what I had planned for. This is not to mention the car I reserved to rent they didn't have. They said they would upgrade me, but the car they gave me was actually a downgrade in size/space (full size sedan to compact SUV). I recommended they go online and google the cubic feet of space for themselves. They said in, "In the car rental world it was an upgrade". Once you're there, they will tack on mandatory extra insurance (they won't accept your own insurance, won't give the the option to decline it), and whatever extra other fees they can think of, such as, when I recently tried to rent from them in Florida, a mandatory SunPass toll pass for $9 per day (that's a lot of toll roads to make that worthwhile). Do not rent from FOX!!!! Between the multiple negative reviews on this site.... there are thousands on the ConsumerAffairs site. And as you can see no responses to address any of them from Fox. You will have issues and they truly do not care. If you are on business or pleasure even if their rate is good.... it is not worth it!!!! I am beyond experienced renting cars, had not heard of Fox and was traveling out west and thought I would try. Never again!!!

The car broke down multiple times. I spent my vacation in repair shops and afraid to turn the car off. Based on the line of complaints when I turned the car back in and all the reviews, I am not alone. This trip was a vacation. The first breakdown was at the beginning of the trip, on my birthday. Now things happen, but it is how it is handled. NO HELP was offered by Fox other than to get a jump and take their car to the repair shop which is how I spent my day. I was not able to get across the Donner Pass to meet my kids who had come in from across the country. Worse, the car continued to break down so if you have a problem, which from my experience and the reviews, you will have something so BE PREPARED TO SPEND HOURS!!!! THEY DO NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONE. You will get a message, even on the emergency roadside repair that they will call you back. They don't! And you will hold forever to get this message.

I literally spent hours and hours on the phone. You do not want to spend your time this way!!!! If you do get through, you will not get resolution -- I COULD GO ON, I GAVE THEM OPPORTUNITY AFTER OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT RIGHT --THEY DO NOT CARE, they will not escalate an issue even if you request it and even when I went to return, there was a line of people with issues. The Manager would not come out to talk to you or call you back.

I could provide more painful details of my experience, but I think you get the point. I have a good bit of management and life experience and have never before felt compelled to leave a negative comment on any public site.... This is not norm for a car rental, no other agency runs this way. I don't do this for any other reason than to protect you.... If you are considering who to rent from.... Do yourself a favor, it just isn't worth it, go somewhere else, anywhere else.

The service desk person argued with me for each item in the contract, blamed me for his computer not working, let me know 3 times that I am lucky to have him as my person cause he is the fastest (the 2 people behind me in line were done before me), and also said that I was lucky to have such a good rate.

Apparently shopping rates makes me lucky! To make matters worse, when returning the car there was no lot attendant so that took over a half hour. The only person who offered up an apology was the van driver who had started that week and wanted to quit because he saw the poor customer service every day. I balked & said, why, I already paid for the car rental with Priceline. The very rude agent could care less. I was so livid that I had wasted so much time trying to rent a car from Fox, I balked and said, no way & left. So, I walked out. After insisting multiple times that insurance was not needed or wanted, found that I was charged anyway. The $150 refund they promised didn't happen and my credit card company was good enough to make me whole when I disputed the charges. Another unpleasant experience with Fox at the same airport was when they withheld the car (convertible) that had been reserved because they said they didn't have one available at the time. At the rental location, there was no record of my $90 deposit and I was asked if I wanted to buy insurance. I bought it and was told since I did that, they would upgrade my car free of charge (in my booking I requested an economy booking). They gave me an SUV instead. When I paid for the booking it was more than double what I initially thought I was paying. I was in a jam and in an unfamiliar city, and felt I had no choice but to just get the car, since there was a line of 10+ people behind me. The agent assured me I'd get the $90 and then the $150 deposit back.

It turned out I didn't need the car - so when I called to find out if I could cancel the booking and return the car, I couldn't get through an actual person. I had to resort to leaving a message for the road-side assistance people to get to a human. When I asked that guy to give me the direct number to the office, he didn't have one. He transferred me back into the endless queue of recordings. Ended up keeping the car and regret every second of it.

When I returned the car it took them 5 days to credit back the $150 - still waiting for the $90. Clicked on the 'live chat' box on the website and all it is is an email form. There is nobody live on the other end. It says they'll be in contact soon. I'm not holding my breath. Definitely, by far, the worst car rental experience of my entire life. The price was so outrageous that my company will not even reimburse me the full cost, so I am out at least $200. This place should be shut down. It's a total scam that takes advantage of tourists and business travelers in a pinch.

I was one of the thousands who ignore the countless negative reviews of Fox Car Rental and I paid for it. Had a problem with the car, called Fox roadside assistance, was given an hour window for service, and guess how long it took? NEVER - after six hours of waiting I called an Uber and retrieved the car the next day, paying for a private tow.

I wouldn't give this company a star unless it was forced to submit this review. I have had the worst experience with this rental company. I paid prepaid for the van I rented. When I arrived to pick up the van, I was told that there would be a good chance they didn't have the van regardless of reserving the vehicle weeks prior to our trip. The rep explained that reserving the vehicle never confirms that we will get it. Anyways, the rep overcharged us and we spent an hour at her computer while she tried to understand the charges. Mind you, it was 10:00 PM and we had two crabby toddlers with us. We continued to ask the rep what the charges were for and she became confrontational and said, "just trust me, we will figure this out and refund you." We didn't understand why were were triple charged over what we prepaid prior to arrival.

Eventually, the rep asked for another reps help and they couldn't revers the charges so we were told that we would receive a call the following day to explain the refund. We never got a call. We got the last van on the lot and had paid for a full tank. The tank was not full. The rep that showed up to the car said we should take a picture and send it in to gain a refund. So we did. Turns out that the moment we drove away, regardless of the picture and the recommendation by the rep, a refund was not to be given. We kept the van for a week and returned it on the agreed upon date. When we returned it, the office was not open yet so we couldn't check up on the refund promised with a rep face to face.

When we returned home from our trip, I called Fox Rent A Car to ask about our refund. I was told to contact the billing department because the care rep didn't see the charges I was talking about even though I had the receipt and paperwork in front of me. Simply, she wouldn't help me. I called the billing department and the rep argued that they did provide a refund even though by that time, I had been double billed by the company totaling close to $1,000 in extra charges over what I prepaid. I also asked what the charges were for and I was told that it was for a second driver, which I was the only driver. After 30 minutes of getting nowhere, I was hung up on.

I called back and the rep told me that the charges were for additional insurance, not a second driver, which I did not agree to. We had insurance through our own company and we paid for standard insurance when we prepaid. The rep didn't care and said that he could provide a credit, but not a refund. I told him that hell will freeze over before I use this company again. The rep argued that they did not double bill us regardless of the proof I had. Then the rep got quiet and hung up the phone. So, I continued to call back and continued to get hung up on. I tried using the online chat to get my refund and the rep will say hello, but never reply thereafter. This has been the worst experience I have had renting a car, and the most expensive. Two weeks later, I am still struggling to get assistance from this company.

I rented through Priceline, and the best deal was Fox. NEVER Again. I flew into Denver Saturday for an afternoon Avalanche hockey game. I left plenty of time for picking up the car and getting to the game. Upon arrival, the wait was approx 20 min to get to the counter. Not quick, but I understand they were busy. It took the guy another 20 minutes just to process me for a reservation that was already in their system. So I am upset at this point, but the fun had not even begun. He told me it would be, you guessed it, another 20 minutes until they would bring my car up to the front. Are you kidding me?

Now, wait for it, 40 MINUTES LATER I'm throwing a fit, along with many others, because I still did not have my car. Never again. Missed pre-game and 1/3 of the first period. The ONLY bright spot about my experience was when I returned the car at 4:30 AM, there was a guy with a big smile on his face waiting for me. SUPER nice guy, thanked me, told me to have a great day, and pointed to the shuttle. (Which had filthy seats, and wrappers and trash on the floors. AT 4:30 AM???)

I had to give at least 1 star to leave a review. I would rather have given none. I rented a car from Fox Rent A Car in the Chicago area on December 12th, 2018. I was asked if I needed to pre-pay any toll road use. I made it clear that I was not familiar with the toll road system around Chicago and asked if there were toll booths along the way. I received some vague response that led me to believe that it would be clear if I was on a toll road. I specifically asked if there would be places where I could pay along the road with cash. The answer was not clear, but led me to conclude that there would be.

It turned out that there were NO toll booths on the roads. It is all done with cameras. I went online to check if I had been on a toll road and concluded that I had not, based on the route I had taken. When I turned in the car I again asked about this and got no clear answer. Today, March 7th, 2019, nearly three months after the rental date I received a bill for $46.30 for the unpaid tolls plus an "administrative fee." The total toll amounted to $1.30. Two 40 cent tolls and a 50 cent toll, plus three $15.00 "administrative fee" charges for each unpaid toll.

Did this happen because the employees don't have the answers to such questions regarding the toll road system? Do they not have this information because Fox Car Rental can't be bothered to train them to give informative answers. Does Fox Car Rental instruct their employees to give vague non-informative answers to such questions? I have no idea. I do know, however, that Fox Rent A Car has gotten an extra $45.00 out of me due to a lack of clear information provided to me when I requested it. That more or less doubles the cost of that one-day rental for. This $45.00 "administrative fee" is absolutely the last money Fox Car Rental will ever see from me.

I have rented from Fox many times, and I signed up for their Rewards program. I accumulated enough points to get a rewards certificate by a credit back to my card. I have squabbled and squabbled and squabbled with the rep from this company who sends me in circles by email never giving me the credit on my card playing games even though I'm entitled to it and never issuing it to me. I have spent THOUSANDS in rentals, and this is how you're treated, leading people on and not giving them the rewards they rightfully earned.

Their rates may be low, but you will pay the price with how you're treated like dirt. They have overcharged me on taxes time and again, and how they're still in business is a mystery to me. They should be shut down by the state of California for unethical business practices and overcharging. The wait times in line are outrageous, and they never have enough counter personnel. If you dare say something to them, they give you dirty looks and then look for ways to block you from renting in retaliation. The hold times on their customer service phone line tend to be for an hour which is unacceptable also. Stay away at all costs.

Fox advertises extremely low bargain rates but NOBODY ever walks out of the dealership paying what they thought they would. Fast-talking salespeople you can hardly understand talking you through various deceptive and confusing questions and terminology which lead you to pay far more than you wanted to. They actually make you sign something that says "My signature here agrees to all terms in this contract even though I will not find out what it costs till the end of the process". What kind of BS is that?

This is a scummy ripoff scam posing as a legitimate business. I paid four times the advertised rate by the time they were through with me and you'll likely do the same. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. You will pay less money at a respectable company that advertises a higher price than from these scumbags advertising prices they have no intention of honoring. Honestly words can not adequately describe the loathing these people inspire in me. It's a sad and disappointing comment on human nature that a business like this exists in the first place.

I went through Expedia to rent a Dodge Challenger through Fox Rent a Car while we were on vacation in Delray, Florida. Fox Rent a Car was near the Fort Lauderdale airport. Expedia gave me a price of $89.10 a day. When I arrived at Fox, I was told that the Challenger had undercarriage damage and had 80k miles and the car was not available. I was told that they could provide a Mustang convertible and when asked how much this would be, I was told that the typical cost is $150 a day but they could do it for $50 a day. Since this was cheaper, I went with the Mustang.

On the form it states a minimum of 4 days at $89.10 per day not to exceed $356.52. When the car was returned I was told that the cost was $760. When told that there was a mistake, I was told by the manager that I upgraded to the Mustang and that's the reason for the higher cost. When the manager was informed that the reason that I went with the Mustang was because Fox Rent a Car could not provide me with a Challenger he said that he could meet me halfway. When he was told that was not acceptable he said that's all he could do. By the way his halfway was to knock $100 off and the cost would be $660. Since Fox Rent a Car was unwilling to fix my issue, I have contacted my credit card company disputing the total cost. I WILL never rent another car from Fox Rent a Car. Pay the extra cost and go to a legit company like National, Hertz, Avis, etc.

TLDR: Sullen counter person, good car. But I ended up paying a $15 "admin fee" (which they charged automatically) AND a $27.50 fee for using some kind of toll lane without having a transponder. Which the person at the counter gave me NO information or warning about. We got into LAX at about 4pm on a Saturday. The counter is not in the airport, so we caught a shuttle, which was pretty easy and the driver was nice. When we got to Fox Rent A Car there were maybe 3 other people/groups and we go to the counter almost immediately. So far, so good. The person at the counter looked like he wished he were anywhere else - did not smile, spoke in a monotone (but not a cool monotone like Spock - a dull monotone). His behavior did not quite rise to the level of rudeness, but it was certainly not great customer service.

We were told to take the contract go to row such-and-such (I forget the number now) and pick any car. We did, and there were a couple of decent choices. To be clear, the car ran great the whole time we had it; the car part of the experience was fine. We returned the car right on time (which we were extra careful about because they charge you if you return it EARLY - I've never heard of anyone else down that, but figured it was worth it for the cheaper price of the rental).

About a week later I got a letter stating that Fox had received a toll violation for the car I rented, that they had "transferred" the liability for that to me, and were charging me a $15 "administration fee". And that I still had to pay the violation, which they provided no other information about. They said in the letter that this arrangement was all in the contract (which tells me that this probably happens a lot because they don't tell anyone about the situation and who the hell reads the ENTIRE rental contract? I've never run across this situation before when I've rented a car).

BTW, not being familiar with the entire LA freeway system, I was surprised that a) you had to pay a fee of anything on a WEEKEND, and b) it's super easy to drive in the toll lanes without being aware of it. I thought they were carpool lanes (you know, like a normal freeway) and there were two of us. I saw lots of other cars with only one person in the lane so I figured they didn't work on the weekends anyway. That's not Fox's problem, but it seems to me that they should have at least made me aware that there are toll lanes that require a transponder and how that works.

At the very least they could've provided information about the violation in the letter they sent (since they were charging me for it), especially since they stated that I was still liable for the toll. How much? How/where do I pay? These would've been useful information. My whole experience with Fox was that they didn't care about their customers and they just want my money with minimal effort on their part. Do yourself a favor: pay a bit more and go to a decent rental car agency.

As I said, I rented the car through Priceline.com on Jan 13, 2019 through Priceline.com. I decided to try Fox Rent A Car for the first time. I checked the reviews and overall thought that they were good. I was extremely surprised when I got to the counter at SFO to be told that there was a sign stating effective 2/19/2019 there was an a $1,000 deposit fee for local customers only who live within 150 miles of the airport.

First of all, I understand a deposit fee, Priceline states that there are some fees. I rent a car six or more times a year so I am aware of the charges. The other agencies charge $100 to $500. I have never been charged over $200. A $1000 was levied on local customers only is not only a mistreatment of the local business but ridiculously high, and I feel is totally unjust. Second of all I picked up the car on February 14th and am returning it on the date in your posting that says as of February 19th this fee was supposed to be assessed. Third, I was not notified in advance of me coming there and it was posted at the register. I was not told about the charge until we went over the contract. The agent said read the sign. I did and said, that I was not notified, the agent said it was on the website last month. I did not find anything noted in regards to the local customers being charged a high deposit within 150 miles of airport.

As I said, I understand and accept that companies have every right to charge a reasonable deposit fee. Something that is a fair amount matching the competition. The competition in the area does not penalize local customers or businesses with high hidden deposits. I will say never rent from this company. I sent an email to customer service requesting consideration the same day I picked up the car and again the next morning. To date I have not heard from the company regarding my complaint. Terrible, Do not recommend ever using Fox Rentals.

I had to give 1 star because there wasn’t another option! It’s actually -10 stars!!! I recently rented a vehicle (** Feb 5th-9th) from you guys and had a 8:00 am check out. I was there at 7:30 am (Not a long line, maybe 2-3 people?). I waited in line to get a car, and was ultimately given a car. Upon checking out the vehicle, I noticed it was extremely dirty, not a little dirty, it was really bad! I went and spoke to someone, about this (actually the guy who drives the car from the wash, and he agreed and got the manager) and they ensured me they would get me a clean car? Car 2 was worse, mud everywhere, sticky stuff all over the place, it looked like a Frat Party happened in there right before I got the car, I laughed and thought, I’m on one of those shows where they prank you?

Got the manager again, and he apologized, and said this isn’t the quality and this is unacceptable, and guaranteed me again a clean car, even stated over the radio to make sure this was spotless, let them know why and stated I had been waiting well over an hour and a half, at this point. But this time it’s already 9:30 am, maybe closer to 10 am. Btw the wife was at the airport pickup because I felt it was easier to grab the car then go and get her and our 4 yr old and a 1 yr old vs moving all the luggage all over the place and taking the kids in and out of the cold, So I waited and waited and finally got car 3.

Car 3 was worse and had mud all over the seats (This was the car the manager specifically said, "Make sure this one is spotless", I realize this is Fox standard at Denver Airport. I would be mortified, completely mortified knowing my company like Fox are not taking car of there customers, the cars are extremely dirty and disgusting, and believe is sub par inventory). So frustrated, my wife said just take it (Because she was so frustrated and the boys were restless), the boys are all over the place because it took almost 3 hours! And still a dirt car and the windshield wipers didn’t work to top it off? They seemed frustrated with me? Seriously? Again at this point I wanted to just leave and go to another car rental place. I was about to leave, It was so bad, I would have paid it, walked out and went to a competitor, and let them keep my money!

So I got the manager again, and he would take care of it for me? He stated this isn’t the standard and he apologize! But after 3 hours and 3 different tries, I was OVER IT!!! And the key didn’t work. It was a flip key and didn’t work. It took a few minutes to work the key every time! The manager also stated he would email me and take care of me for some of the worse service I have ever received. No email or call? So we go to the airport early because I knew it would be a long process. Get there, super long line, I asked for a manager, he comes, with a huge pile of chew hanging off his lips, his teeth were black from the tobacco, and literally spitting as he tried to communicate, he was a complete **.

I explained the problem, and let me tell you, this is what completely did it for me. He was extremely rude and argued with me raising his voice in front of about 20 customers. Said it wasn’t his problem, and "What do you want me to do?" He said he couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t the original manager? Seriously? Wow! This was by far the worse experience, WORST! I WILL NEVER EVER RENT FROM FOX CAR RENTAL, and I promise I will do everything in my power to let everyone know about the operation at Fox rental in Denver.

I was with another family and looked At their rental from EZ, yes EZ Car Rental, and was floored! It was super clean, smelled good. Go there!!! DO NOT GO TO FOX RENTAL CAR IN DENVER AIRPORT. So I realized again, that Fox Car Rental in Denver just don’t care about their customers! You almost ruined my family vacation, and by the sound of all the stories I heard from other families while I waited, I wasn’t the only one! Fox rentals just don’t care and the people they have running the show aren’t capable, unprofessional, and the managers are the worst I have ever come in contact with. Chew hanging out his mouth, like I’m not joking, Tabasco everywhere, stains all over his clothes and teeth. I was scared to get close to him!

I am an 11 yr military veteran, and let them know I didn’t appreciate their lack of just about EVERYTHING!!! This is 1000000% unacceptable and want you to know about what is going on in Denver! If you don’t care? Then don’t respond, but if you do, let’s start to Change, it starts with 1. It has been an exhausting task trying to get anyone from Fox Rent a Car Corporate. I know why they don’t give out their numbers. They are probably bombarded with complaints! I will NEVER rent from Fox again.

The $49 rental turned into $179 for 2 1/2 days.

I asked them how they could do that to an older person and she said, "well, the salespeople don't ask if you already have insurance. That's not our job." WOW. Scamming elderly people however is. My mother is 78 years old and didn't know that her current insurance would have covered all of that. I went through a few more scenarios and all I was told was, "well, she signed the papers." I guess she's right. When you can scam extra money out of someone, especially someone on a fixed income, then that doesn't say much for your company. Especially with no offer to even correct part of the amount. Unfortunately, now my mom is stuck with paying the extra. Told them we'd never do business with them again. I have had that happen before where the car you reserved was not available but never told they had no cars to 10 people with confirmed reservations. The counter person said, “Sorry you came. Try the other rental people.” No effort was made to help find a car at all. I usually rent direct through Alamo, National or Enterprise Direct but this was recommended through Alaska Airlines when I booked my flight. Lesson learned and never would I use Fox Rent A Car again.

After traveling all night, tired, and hungry, faced with additional hours of negotiation with the staff then driving in unfamiliar location, you weigh the alternatives and just let them take advantage of you. They extort more money out of you with scare tactics and threats to get you to buy upgrades. It would have been cheaper to get a Uber considering the extortion upgrades, and paying for parking most places you go in Las Vegas.

By the time the unscrupulous sales folks scare you into taking insurance you don't need and add all these upcharges and fees, the $70 turned into almost $350! When you've been traveling all day, it's 10 p.m. and you're a female facing an additional hour's drive in an unfamiliar location - you weigh the alternatives and just let them take advantage of you. Hopefully someone will do something about FOX's lack of transparency and poor business model. I had a terrible experience with a Fox car rental. Reading all of these reviews, it seems to be how they operate. I flew from Boston to Toronto because of a life and death medical emergency with my dad. There was a huge storm in Boston and I got out on one of the only flights still departing that day. I got to Toronto 2 hours late and after taking the train to a remote terminal I had to use the courtesy phone in the station to call Fox. Fox informed me that they had given my car away. It seems this is what they do. Even though I had an email saying “your car rental reservation is confirmed”. It really isn’t if they can rent the car to someone else for more money. It is a total scam. Left me stranded at some remote train station in the dark in -35C, trying to get 100 miles north to my dad in emergency surgery. Never, ever again!

For anyone considering using Fox Rent A Car when traveling in a foreign country, please spend a little more and go with a reputable, ethical, and customer-centric company. Fox Rent A Car (and their affiliate partners) may be less expensive up-front than reputable and ethical car rental companies, however, they will charge you for “damage” or other expenses that are illegitimate, or borderline fraudulent when you return the car.

I booked a 6-day car rental in Sicily, Italy in December 2018. When I booked on Carentals.com I thought I would be renting with Fox Rent A Car. However, in the fine print during the online booking process it said the vehicle provider would actually be “Sicily By Car”, which is an “affiliate” of Fox Rent A Car. In reality Fox Rent A Car just passes the business off to these unethical foreign car rental companies who have extremely poor customer service reputations, which is clearly evident from all the negative online reviews. Additionally, Fox Rent A Car has absolutely no concern and no regard for the customer's well-being, or the poor treatment provided to customers by these foreign car rental companies. Fox Rent A Car is only concerned with the commission they receive for referring a customer to the foreign affiliate.

When I picked up my rental car from Sicily by Car at the airport in Palermo, Sicily, I immediately noticed that the front right tire had low air pressure, plus the low tire pressure light was on in the car. Before leaving the airport I got out of the car and found someone who worked for Sicily by Car in the parking lot. I asked her to come look at the tire and tire pressure light in the car. Instead, she declined to come over to my car and told me everything is fine and I can drive away. Taking her advice was a poor costly decision, as I had no idea I would be the victim of a fraudulent charge six days later when I would drop the car off at the airport in Catania, Sicily.

When I dropped off the car at the airport in Catania, Sicily, the employee for Sicily By Car examined the car and then accused me of replacing the front right tire because it was a different model from the other three tires. This was the same tire I had asked for assistance with when I picked up the car in Palermo. At the time I dropped the car off I explained to the employee that I had an issue with the front right tire when I picked up the car, and had requested help, but was denied assistance. I was asked to provide a written explanation of the events whereby the manager would review it and get back to me in a week with a decision on whether I would be charged for replacing the tire, despite the fact that I never replaced the tire. I realized that Sicily by Car knew I would be returning to the U.S., which would allow them to make a false accusation and I would have no recourse to rebut the fraudulent charge.

When I returned to the U.S. I immediately called Fox Rent a Car to issue a complaint and seek help against this fraudulent charge by Sicily by Car. Instead, Fox Rent A Car told me that they couldn’t help me because it was a Sicily by Car issue and they would not have any information concerning my car reservation. After talking to Fox Rent A Car person for 20 minutes about my poor experience, she said to email her all my Sicily By Car drop off paperwork information, along with an explanation of events. She told me that Fox Rent a Car has a relationship manager that deals with these foreign car rental affiliates.

More than a week after I emailed Fox Rent A Car with my paperwork and information, I received an email from Sicily by Car notifying me that I was responsible for paying to replace a tire that I never replaced while the car was in my possession. Shortly after receiving the email from Sicily by Car, I received an email from Fox Rent A Car repeating what Sicily by Car had already told me. Despite the numerous negative reviews regarding Sicily by Car, and my explanation of events, Fox Rent A Car will not believe you and will not help you when all the facts and human logic are in your favor. Instead, they just say “We cannot override any decision made by an affiliate”.

I sent two follow up emails to Fox Rent A Car contesting the final decision by Sicily by Car, but Fox Rent a Car never responded to either of my emails. Fox Rent A Car will just ignore your emails. As I said before Fox Rent A Car is not in the business of customer service, or believing the customer when they have been taken advantage of.

At the time you pick up the rental car, Sicily by Car will hold a $340 deposit on your credit card. At the time I dropped off the car and was accused of replacing the tire, Sicily by Car told me the cost of one tire would be $237. Not only was I fraudulently charged for a tire I never replaced, Sicily by Car kept my entire $340 deposit as evidenced on my credit card. I have emailed Sicily by Car three times (once a week) requesting a copy of the invoice for the tire replacement, so I can dispute the fraudulent charge with my credit card company, but Sicily by Car is purposely ignoring all my emails.

I don’t want other honest ethical customers to make the same mistake I did by renting a car with Fox Rent A Car just because they have the lowest price. Spend a little more money and rent with a reputable ethical car rental company that actually believes their customers, and puts the customer first. If anyone would like to see my rental car paperwork/emails as proof of my situation please let me know and I will be happy to provide it. Fox Rent A Car and Sicily by Car do not deserve your business.

Then I canceled my booking due to very bad review on Fox. I was afraid to take a chance because I would be traveling with my 2 kids and wife from Indonesia. I didn't want my family to get disappointed: long flight from home for 3 weeks vacation in LA.

So googled again regarding reasonable price for my purpose: full size SUV with unlimited mileage. I couldn't find better deal than FOX. So what the heck, I took my chances by hoping the review on the internet was all wrong. I proved it right: Internet reviews were all wrong about FOX. Service at the counter was fast even though the line was long (due to Christmas and New Year Holiday), I got perfect condition full size SUV as I expected, things were fast. I enjoyed my 2018 holiday and the car. Maybe I was lucky or maybe not. But to find better deal during holiday, FOX is the best. Thank you FOX at LAX.

I have nothing good to say about this company. First it is impossible to speak to any person online. We arrived at the rental centre in Phoenix and due to the sale there were not enough agents to rent cars which resulted in a long line up. We stood in line for over one hour. and it was over two hours before we finally left the airport. We had reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar SUV. We later found out that they do not have these vehicles on the fleet. We were given a Dodge Journey which in no way compares to the Grand Cherokee.

At approx 7:00 PM we had a flat tire and I called the roadside assistance four separate times. Each time we would get a recording and once we were the next in line and after approx 10 minutes on hold it would tell us to leave a message. We were able to change the tire with the help of a passerby and drove the vehicle slowly back to the airport only to find out that the roadside assistance phones are only manned from 9 - 5. My advice is do not breakdown outside of these hours. The agent was not able to answer any questions about what to do if you have a flight to catch. Upon our return there were approx 80 vehicles in the lineups and I did not see one Grand Cherokee. In conclusion first the vehicle we got was much less than what we thought we were going to get. We wasted 5 hours to get help with a flat tire that never arrived. Last they charged my credit card even though I paid cash when I returned the car.

Let me just start by saying this is the scammiest, ripoff car rental company I've ever had the misfortune of renting from. When I booked online, I only paid about $120 for the 4 days. At the end of trip, I ended up somehow owing them $400 in extra "fees". I rented a car from Fox for 4 days for a vacation with my boyfriend and I. When we arrived from the airport to the pickup counter, there were only 2 people checking people in and a bunch of other employees just walking around while there was a long line. When it was our turn, the guy at the counter was like a used car salesman trying to get up to pay a ton of money for extra stuff that no one needs. He ended up conning us into getting some toll tag for an extra $15 a day which we ended up not even using.

The real kicker was when we got some expired meter parking tickets, only $25 and which we planned on paying online. But when we went to do so, we saw that Fox already paid immediately and charged us $60 "handling" fee. When I called to say that I was going to pay the ticket, the person said it was too late and I had to pay Fox for the extra fees. So our $120 turned into $400 plus. Save yourself the headache and rent with someone reputable. FOX SUCKS. I would NEVER rent from them again and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Went online Monday to cancel a Saturday reservation. If you cancel 96 hours or more prior to the reservation you only get charged $70. If you cancel less than 96 hours before the reservation, you will be charged the entire rental fee. So, this was my lucky day. I only paid $70 for NOTHING. Clearly, customer relationships and repeat business are not part of their business model. More like churn and burn. Went back to Hertz. There you what you pay for. Unfortunately I didn't tell my wife about that first experience and she booked our recent rental car from Fox as well. When I found out at the airport I was concerned but hoped maybe this rental location in a different city would be better. Boy was I wrong. With taxes and fees estimated total was $49.33. with the exchange rate to Canadian $ of 1.31% it should be around C$65. When I got to the counter, David the representative said I have to purchase the Collision Damage Coverage. I said I'm covered through my American Express card. He said I have no choice because my rental price was so low. It was $11.95 per day. I was in a hurry to attend a meeting so I agreed.

When I returned the car, on time, with full tank of gas, David said my total would be $109! I said I'd like to see the itemization. He said he couldn't show me until the amount was paid. I didn't want to miss my flight and I allowed him to process the payment. When I read the statement, I was charged $19 per day. When I asked him he said that was the exchange rate! I said that's crazy, the exchange rate was 1.31, not 1.9%. He said because I rented through Priceline.com, the amount was calculated by Priceline, and his system couldn't change it.

I called Priceline.com immediately to ask if what David said was true. Priceline representative Alexa said that was not true and I should not be charged more than US$10 per day. She said I should not have to pay for additional insurance if I already have coverage. So David was very dishonest and everything he said were lies. Priceline is doing an investigation on their charge. I will suggest to Priceline to take this company off their database if Fox refuses to settle this case.

When I got to the location, the customer service (if that is what you want to call it) was HORRIBLE!!! She quickly went through the rental process and when I asked clarifying questions the counter agent seemed annoyed. I had a question about the return timeframe and next thing you know the manager was typing away on my rental agreement. I never asked for the manager and was not informed she needed a manager. The counter agent was saying something completely different than what we talked about and she snapped at me and said “this is between me and my manager.”

I was then sold the plate pass for “all” the noncash taking tolls between the location and my resort. The 4 total tolls I went through ALL took cash and were less than $10. I hope the company enjoys the extra $57 they “stole” from me. I even asked the counter agent about the tolls and she pointed to a map that had the toll roads in green, but nothing about them accepting or not accepting cash. I hope they enjoy selling telling people they need the plate pass when it isn’t necessary. That night I called the customer service number to discuss the plate pass fee (of $67) and having it removed, needless to say the phone customer service was just as horrible as the rental location.

The SUV we got was a mess and unwashed, it had paint splatters all over the windshield and driver's side of the car, chocolate handprint stains on the interior, a huge dent on the passenger side door and kept saying it needed an oil change. This is the first time in my life I ever felt the need to take pictures of the damage to a rental car I was picking up. We had to the pick up walk around inspection by ourselves and fill out the paperwork, I thought this was the rental place's job not mine. I have never paid a deposit charge when I rent a car. My mother, sadly, passed away three days after arriving and I returned the car, after 7 days. I knew my daily rate would increase for an early return. It was written on my contract what that daily charge would be.

However, they ended up charging me for two weeks and my final bill was more than the original agreement for two weeks. I kept trying to explain to the attendant, who gave me my receipt, that there was an error. But she couldn't understand what I was saying or just didn't want to understand. I had a plane to catch and decided to settle the matter when I got home. You cannot reach this company by phone. I e-mailed them and sent a handwritten letter with copies of contract and receipts, to no avail. I will never rent from this company again. I add my bad review to all the bad reviews that preceded mine. I hope ConsumerAffairs will look into this operation and their shady practices of cheating their customers.

I would give this company zero stars if I could. I rented a car from this company at LAX. I had to wait at the counter for the agent to finish a conversation with the father of her child. Then I had to wait while she sent him a text message. When I returned the car, they charged me a $300 drop off fee. Seriously?! I brought the car back to the lot where I picked it up from and they charge me $300 to bring it back to them? This is ridiculous. Don't rent from them unless you want to get ripped off.

I made a reservation for Nov 22-25, within 24hrs I called to cancel since there is a family emergency within that week. They are charging me for $70 cancellation fee and they will keep the remaining money as a store credit. This is a totally unfair business. I would understand if cancellation is 48-72 hrs from the rental date but not within 24hrs of making one. And oh! They Charge $1000 for car deposit as well (automatically charged on your cc when you book reservation online).

This was truly the worst car renting experience I’ve ever had! My daughter and I arrived at SFO on November 3rd at 12:30 AM. After taking the almost 35 min shuttle, to the rental location because the Air Tram stopped running at midnight, we arrived that the 2nd level of the parking structure to wait in line for 45 mins because only 2 ladies were working and each one had to go on a 10-15 min break. When it was finally my turn, I then got the shocking news that the hold would be 400.00 which I may not get back for up to 14 DAYS, because I was using my DEBIT card!

I had already prepaid with PRICELINE, including the added on car insurance... so for 3 days I paid 100.00 BEFORE I EVEN GOT THERE... Next comes the car, I was given a Hyundai Elantra with a front spoiler. I noticed lots of scratches and door dings on the sides and back of the car, only the NEXT MORNING when I saw the car in natural sunlight. Upon returning the car last night, November 5th, I told the check in person who said, "Don’t worry about it." I checked my account this morning they took the 400.00 out. Needless to say I now have to find out how to get my money back.

What a pathetic car rental service. I will never advise anyone to book a car through them even though they are little cheaper than other. I had a bad experience at San Jose airport car rental service depending upon unreliability were they were unable to provide me car on time. They also charged my account in advance. Likewise, the customer service was similar; they told me that I need to wait 30 minutes, and again when I asked them after 1 minute the answer was it could take more than a hour. Lastly, I canceled my reservation.

After reserving a Jeep Cherokee for $310, I arrived at Sky Harbor and waited in line for 35 minutes with only 6 people in front of me. The representative who finally waited on me said that they did not have the vehicle I ordered. He tried to put me into a Charger - a 2 door sedan. I needed the SUV. Then he tried to charge me a $150 "deposit" which was not disclosed when I ordered the vehicle 3 weeks prior. He said that would be refunded 7 to 10 days AFTER the rental. He also said that ALL car rental companies charge a deposit, which is a lie.

The final straw was the declining of insurance, which was suspicious in nature. You initial a box that confirms you will pay for the insurance that is listed below, but there is nothing listed. Will they insert that later on for a customer to be charged? I refused to rent the car and went next door to Thrifty, where I rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $279 (no deposit), and I was in and out of there in about 5-7 minutes. Fox is a terrible company.

Jeez where to start? We were going to San Francisco so I got a reservation for a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $123 for 3 days. When we showed up we stood in line for about 25 to 30 minutes and then finally got to the counter. The guy says my reservation is no longer valid since it's past 3 hours of the time I listed. Well we were only 9 minutes past! And we waited in line for all that time! So the guy says he's gonna help us out and shhh don't tell the manager. That ** gave us a frigging Versa! And charged us $165 for the same 3 days!

If I wasn't tired of dealing with this idiot I would've very much enjoyed sticking his head up his ** and watching him hobble around for a bit. We just wanted to get out of there and get to our hotel. If I could give these people negative stars I would. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS! But that's what I get for not reading reviews before renting here. In the future I will use the better companies that treat you correctly.
