Rented a minivan from Fox Rent A Car near LAX recently. The shuttle took 30 minutes to pick us up, meanwhile every other rental car company's shuttles passed us multiple times. Once we finally got there the staff didn't look like they wanted to be there, and not very help and they were very slow. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to rent a car. You should be out of there in 5 or 10 min. The minivan wasn't very clean and was in just okay condition. Fox you should find people who want to work there not people who are just there waiting for their shift to end. I've had other bad experiences with Fox before. Once they accused me of a broken driver side mirror and I know when I returned the car the mirror was fine and they would have noticed it when I dropped the car off anyway if it was broken. They wanted to charge me $1100.00 to fix it. I rented at Fox before because of the low prices but never again. My advice is to stay away from Fox Rent A Car.

I thought I had a good deal renting a standard size car at Orlando Airport - about $15 a day for a 10 day period. When the paperwork was being finished the rep said there will also be a $7.49 per day charge for toll roads. This would add $75 to the charge. I didn't plan that, and the booking website had no hint that I would face this gotcha at the counter. I told the rep I would only use toll roads for 2 hours on the first day and 2 hours on the last day. He smiled his "tough luck, buddy" smile. No more Fox Rent a CAR for me.

Rented a car from Fox Rent A Car Fort Lauderdale. I was given a quote of $115 ended up paying $242 for a 4 day rental. During those four days I had to call the Fox Roadside assistance (which they charge for) as the car they gave me has some kind of anti-theft alarm problem that left me stranded in two parking lots on two separate occasions. When you call Fox roadside assistance they don't answer their phone and leave you on hold indefinitely. I had to call their regular phone number begging someone to get someone in their roadside assistance dept to help me. After multiple attempts to get help I was finally able to get someone in their Rental Extensions area to link me up with a roadside assistance rep. I feel bad for the next person that gets this car as you know they won't do a thing to fix the issue.

Serious training problem with counter help. Busy time with an event in town, but two customers, there was no vehicle for. That problem ate up 2 of the 3 counter employees for one hour. I was 5th in line and it took 90 minutes to get helped. When I left, there had to be 100 people in line. The contract you have to review, is show to you on a 3 line screen. You have read what seems like 1000 pages of a contract, 3 lines at a time. It is brutal. The one person able to help people took 15 minutes per customer. The contract review is BRUTAL. The poor working helping me, had a hard time finding my reservation, even though I asked him 4 times if he wanted my reservation information. (He was looking from my license).

Then, after waiting 90 minutes in line and 15 minutes at the counter, he sends me off to retrieve my car downstairs, WITH THE WRONG CUSTOMER’S CONTRACT??? How is this even possible? Shocker, the first person downstairs said "well, we cannot print a new one here, you will have to go back upstairs". I almost lost it. Bottom line, 2 hours to get out of line and loaded in a vehicle. Besides that, the folks at Payless next door were heckling the line of customers, not reaching to the door of the airport... IN SPANISH. Like ** do not know Spanish. EXTREMELY INSULTING! Pay more, get more. Never trying this junk hole again.

Rented a car from Austin, TX airport for a few days. Agent at Fox counter told me I would be charged a $15 admin fee for tolls. She did NOT tell me it would be $15 PER TOLL transaction. I ended up with a bill (mailed to me) of $99.45 for six toll transactions that were only about $1 to $2 each. Had I known this would be the case, I would have opted for their flat rate $45 electronic pass. This is criminal, Fox. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You should ensure your customers are thoroughly informed. I will NOT do business with you again.

Do not use Fox rental ever! I selected the manager select option, but when went to pick up the vehicle in Denver, they said there's only minivans, and I didn't need a minivan, because it was just my mom and I, but he wouldn't budge. So we agreed to the minivan, but end of the trip they upcharged me 10 bucks a day for the minivan. When I spoke to a manager they referred me to the customer service billing line, but when asked for the refund they wouldn't budge saying I agreed to the upcharge. I need a freaking minivan. Why the hell would I agree to an upcharge?

Booked a Toyota Corolla online for Las Vegas. Was told by Dana at the counter that car we booked was not available and she tried to upgrade us for a fee. We refused so she said she had a Kia Soul in our price range. We agreed to it but then she said we needed to pay for special Nevada car insurance. I told her my insurance covered me for Nevada. She insisted we had to pay this special insurance or she wouldn't rent us the car. I reluctantly agreed and paid. The lot was pitch black so we didn't see the condition the car until next day. It was filthy and the tires were worn. Found out she had lied about the insurance. This company is a rip off and will say anything to extort extra money when they know you are vulnerable. THIEVES and LIARS. Do not rent from this company. They also charged extra for the prepaid gas. Look at all the one star ratings, stay away, bait and switch.

I arrived to Phoenix in December, I needed a rental car on December 15th for two weeks with an original return date December 29. I went online and noticed an ad for $7 per day for an economy car. So, I booked the rental online at the airport. The total cost was $101 for two weeks, however, the taxes was a whopping $149 for a total of $250. When I arrived at the counter to pick up the vehicle, I was hit with an additional $150 deposit for being Arizona. Now my total is $410.00. I am already committed with my earlier booking.

The Hell on Earth Experience begins: During my stay, I realized that I will have to extend my rental car. A simple thing to do, right? NO! Fox Rental would not allow me to extend my rental online. Even though, they advertised on the call while you are waiting for customer service to do so. I was told that I had to go back to the Phoenix Airport to extend the rental. Fortunately for me, I was in the area, God forbid if I was in Southern California enjoying the holidays with my friend.

When I arrived at the airport, the customer service people were very unprofessional. I am a day early with the car, to avoid the $20 per day charged. My thought pattern was to have the original invoice total out leaving the deposit to be forwarded to the new invoice. Immediately, I was told that it would be $20 per day each to extend the rental from the one customer service rep. (** guy). There was another customer service (**, only one of the four customer service) standing behind the guy that I was talking with, took the receipt away him and proceeded to hand it back to me. Said to me, that they (Fox) needed the car because they have people waiting for cars. I tried to explain that my trip was extended, his reply was I should have plan my trip better!! In addition, he pointed to the competitor side and told me to rent from them, they have cars.

When I first pick up the car, along with other surprised customers, we asked about returning our $150 deposit. We were told that it will take about 2-3 business days. Initially, I started to walk away and turn around to ask about the $150 deposit. He was walking away as well turn around to greet me. As I ask him about the return time of my deposit, he proudly said that it will take 5 business days to get my security deposit. NEVER IN MY LIFE has I have so DISRESPECTED!!! If you were me, what would you do?

Called Fox car rental reservations to ask why I couldn't cross the state line from Florida to go to Savannah GA? He told me rudely... "You cannot cross the state border for no reason at all..." Then called me 'stupid' for not reading the policy. Then threatened me that if I did, they would find the car, confiscate it and leave me to my demise. Plus, I would have to pay towing charges back to Orlando, additional fees and loss of time rental...amounting to approx $2000.00. All this for just crossing into GA. Really? Is this the way Fox Rent A Car treats its customers? No wonder their reviews average a one star, because a "O" is not permitted. Rude, disrespectful and obnoxious. Pay a couple extra dollars for a regular rental company that lets you cancel whenever you want. They have hidden fees for tolls? $60 extra on top of the toll you already have to pay, no other way to pay. Also they have a certain amount per day charge, I think it's $20, of bringing it back early? No rental car company in California has a problem booking cars that are brought back... They tried to tell me I only had an hour or so to pick up the rental within the scheduled time and if no cars were there my reservation could be cancelled.

Also, BEFORE up pick up your rental, double check the prices for that day. You could save hundreds of dollars. But if you complete your reservation you're locked in and they will not refund prices comparable to their own company rates. Do NOT use Car Rental 8 as an overhead company to secure the reservation in advance. Use a classic company that works with you. And maybe the mistake was being proactive and securing my rental over a month in advance. The car was poorly cleaned, pumpkin seeds that I'm not sure if they were in the previous renters month, gross. The guy at the gate said it was typical for the cars not to be cleaned properly. I at least had to clean the inside windshield so I could see when the sun was going down.

We rented a vehicle Nov 17-19, 2017 at the Ft Lauderdale airport. We have many complaints and feel completely ripped off by Fox Rent a Car. For those of you thinking about getting sucked in by the price, please don’t! Had we read the reviews online ahead of time, we would have never rented from them. This place is dirty and the front counter servicemen are not friendly. They tried to sell us a SunPass for $40 which is a device that would cover Florida tolls, but we knew we’re not going to be using the rental car much in the two days we would be down there, plus the $40 fee was a complete rip off in the first place. We told the guy we would just pay for the tolls (which are $1.00-$3.00) as we go along. However, being from Pennsylvania, we didn’t know “unmanned” tolls exist and without even knowing we were on a toll road, we got charged the toll fee and a $15 administrative fee for each unmanned toll we drove through on our credit card.

Had Fox Rent a Car told us that there are unmanned tolls and there would be an automatic $15 admin fee for each unmanned toll road we drove on, we would have just paid the $40 for the SunPass. We never leave reviews online, but if we can save someone the headache and money, rent from a more reputable car rental agency! This company should be shut down bottom line. Incredibly disappointed that companies like this exist.

The agent couldn't determine which cars they had, and the people in the garage didn't know which cars they had. This "process" took over an hour. I ended up with a 7 passenger SUV for myself and one other person. I didn't want that giant thing, but I wanted to get on with my life. It was a piece of junk, sounded like there were animals inside the doors, or marbles, gravel, lots of scratching and grinding sounds. After I dropped it off and returned home I saw my credit card statement. It was supposed to be $360 but they charged me $971.

A called to talk to an arrogant uneducated agent who blamed me for the upgrade. I told her that I didn't need or want that vehicle and that the desk agent assured me there would be no extra charge. After a 40 minute back and forth, she said they would refund $133 dollars, that I still haven't seen on my account documents. They are criminals, rent from anyone but them!

Think twice should you consider renting a car with the Fox Rent A Car company, specifically when you want to rent the car overseas. Those Fox Rent A Car companies are just affiliates of the headquarter company with the same name in L.A. and you will not get any support if needed. I rented a car from Fox at the OTP airport in Bucharest. What a disaster! They pick up customers from the airport and shuttle them several miles away to a shabby trailer office with no chance of return.

Their staff is very argumentative, forcing customers to purchase their liability insurance, requesting their signature to be signed onto a digital pad while refusing to let them read the rental agreement first. The Fox cars are filthy in and out, banged up with scratches all around and not checked for lack of oil and water. Cars go out in the same condition as they arrive. When a car comes in, Fox checks and argues every scratch as if it was caused by the customer who returns the car.

Because of their lack of maintenance, my car broke down on the highway with an engine problem in the middle of nowhere. Fox expected me to wait at the car for a possible replacement to arrive 4 hours later. Irresponsible! When a passing by highway patrol ordered the car to be towed away, Fox was not able to get the replacement car to me sooner. I had to rent another car from another company to continue my trip.

Fox refused to reimburse me for the unused rental days and forced-on insurance. They also did not return the towing fee, which I had to pay from my own pocket. Fox countered with a ridiculous statement that I refused to continue renting the replacement car from them. Stay away from the Fox Rent A Car company or you may regret it!

I have been trying to get in touch with a billing manager but have not received a phone call back yet. I have explained my situation numerous times to date to various representatives. I made a reservation for a premium convertible months ago for our trip to AZ via Expedia.com at a rate of $570. When we arrived at the airport we were told there were no convertibles available based on the fact we were 3 hours late due to plane issues. We asked if there was a convertible available 3 hours prior... We were told there was not. We were given an SUV with the understanding we would be given a call the following day when a convertible WAS available. We were contacted the next day as promised to tell us our car was ready. We said we would be there 45 mins later only to find ourselves waiting another 30 mins for a car that was supposedly ready for us to pick up.

The car we were given was a Ford Mustang... Not a premium convertible and in pretty rough shape. We were not provided a refund at that time for the $50 difference in class price. When I reserved the car months prior, a Mustang was $520. When we tried to get money back for our inconvenience we were given $49... The class price difference, but were told this was 10% and the best they could do for us. All I'm asking for is 10% off of the class car we actually were provided with. In other words 10% off of the $520 for the class car we were provided.

When we dropped off the car, there were 2 other Fox customers there also unable to get the car they had reserved in advance. The Fox representative was trying to get them to upgrade their reservation... Seems like the old bait and switch to me. The customer service at Fox is one of the worse I've ever experienced in my life. Will NEVER rent from them again!

When I raced over to go find this guy, he had clearly been alerted of my questions because he decided to ride over the terminal to tell everyone that Fox didn't have any cars available. We rented a Dodge Minivan in Miami to carry 4 adults, 2 toddlers and luggage. Upon arrival, we were told they didn't have one available. They could upgrade is for a charge, or we could take a 15 passenger van. After much arguing, we settled on the van because we refused to pay extra. "Magically", a minivan appeared. In fact, I overheard the clerk say there were two showing in the system when speaking to the person who was bringing the cars around. The minivan was in good condition and served us well for the week.

Fast forward to Sunday at 4 am (our flight leaves at 6 am), per the rental agreement, we are returning the minivan to the Fort Lauderdale location. The clerk tells us that we have to pay for not returning the minivan with a full tank of gas. On our contract, we point out that we prepaid the gas, and we want our deposit returned. He counters that we won't get the deposit and owe extra because the computer says we didn't prepay gas. Despite repeatedly pointing out that it was printed on their contract that it was paid, we were told that the contract came from the Miami office, not them, so they would only go by the "computer".

Since there was no manager, the security guard comes in, reads the screen, and reiterates that we owe. At this point, my wife calls the police and requests an officer be dispatched to settle the dispute. Less than 2 minutes later, the clerk comes back in and says he got approval to return our deposit. Considering he had just been outside with the security guard, I have no idea who approved it. We took our money, called off the police officer, and took the shuttle to the airport. I would never recommend this place to anyone, no matter how cheap they claim to be online.

BY FAR THE WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER! Extremely unprofessional, untrained individuals at the front desk first of all. I rented from them a week from the Ft Lauderdale location and I had issues from the beginning to the end. The kicker was when we returned the vehicle! After waiting a good 20 min for the guy to rush around and get everyone else checked in around us, as we were told to wait outside in the sun with our luggage on the cement, he turned our vehicle off while inspecting the normal, interior, exterior, gas, etc. Well after waiting for him to next inspect our car, he gave us the copy of our contract and he signed off and said everything was in order and told us we were done.

We walked away to wait only 15ft away at the shuttle stop. After 15min more, the shuttle came, picked us up and we were on our way to the airport. Months later I get a call from an EXTREMELY RUDE and EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL INDIVIDUAL named COREY ** from ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE calls me and demands I pay them $260 for a lost key!!! WTF! How did the guy drive off after he had shut the car off then? Also, I asked the manager to review the cameras and of course, no call back, no email, no nothing! I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and demanding proof of debt validity because I think they're a bunch of crooks. I will not pay for something they signed off on and I know we returned!!! DON'T take the headache... GO with reputable rental companies.

Just got a bill in the mail from FOX RENT A CAR for an almost $10 TOLL charge, and a $45 administration fee. I was in Denver from out of town from Ohio attending a funeral, and wasn't aware there were no toll booths to pay with cash, and that everything was electronic. I didn't even have an opportunity to pay in person and take care of it myself. Everything is electronically generated and mailed. Maybe a $10 administration fee would be considered fair, but when I'm not told about these electronic TOLLS and I don't have an opportunity to pay in person at a TOLL booth (like everywhere else we've traveled), to charge an excessive fee of $45 on a bill for $10 is unbelievably unfair. Also, we rented a luxury car and received a dinged up car with a broken mirror and crack on the touchscreen. BEWARE... WHAT A SCAM!

Our plane was delayed by 1 hour and we got to the rental place at 1 a.m. The lady behind counter was awful, she asked for my rental info and I gave it to her. She said, "All we have is economy cars," and said that we will have to pay the same rate for it and would have to come back in the morning to see if anything else is available.

She did NOT mention anything about the toll roads package thingy, didn't even know about it until I got the bill in the mail just recently with all of these extra charges on it. "Administration charges" I think it said. 15 dollars per toll charge was added without my knowledge. I got charged $90 extra dollars for administration charges for something the lady behind counter told us nothing about. She was SO mean, to put it lightly... This car company is a SCAM. They take your money and then don't actually save the car for you. I realize this after reading so many other people's reviews and the same issue.

We were on hold for over 40 minutes with roadside assistance then a full message recording comes on and promptly hangs up on us. After calling back and on hold for another 20 minutes we find out we are to take it in and exchange it. We want to make sure they have a full size Suv for our family of 6, but they only tell us that they see 3 on each not unless we drive another hour out of our way where they have 15.

We try to call the closer locations and there is not a way to speak to an actual person. We call customer service and they say just head to the closest one and we should be fine. We shall see since they can't seem to have a way to put it on hold for a customer who has a broken rental. Not impressed with their customer service skills at all. They need some training.

One lady came out then. If my wife did not say anything, we don't know how long we waited even though shuttle driver already came and go around the room.

And she talked about gas. Gas is much expensive outside and she recommended to fuel in the rental office. She said they provide good price. I told just half is fine. And finally she told us there is no sedan you booked, so she gave SUV instead. Anyway, we were pleased to get bigger car with same price.

After 2 weeks later, I got an invoice that show total $102 for toll fee and administration fee from Fox Rent A Car Servicing Center. I could not understand why I got this letter. I called servicing center and operator said we did not buy Unlimited Toll Coverage. I said I bought it, but she said her record showed no purchase. The Fort Lauderdale staff did not include this option mistakenly. Operator said it is my fault that I did not check my receipt. I was tired with jetlag and total receipt amount included deposit money. How can I figure out the itemized amount in the first morning in my first visit in Fort Lauderdale? It took me one hour and a half to get to the counter. The van was unwashed and unclean inside. It was the worst vehicle I have ever driven. It got worn out tires and noisy engine. You have to step on the gas hard to get the vehicle moving. This caused to burn lots of gas. The other worst thing about this Fox car rental is that they charged me $15 administrative fee for each toll charge. It was my first time in Colorado. I didn't know the highways well. My GPS got me onto Highway E-470, which I received 4 toll charges, $3.70 each, not so much and I had no complain. But with the excessive fee of $15 charged by Fox for each of the 4 tolls, everything totaled up to $74.50. This is a pure ripoff by Fox.

The cost of the windshield repair for a 2017 Jeep Renegade, including tax, is $113.71 [same day service]. Fox has received $739.00 for this incident. This is much more than reasonable for the total of a $114.00 repair, plus the cost of driving the vehicle to the SafeLite, plus their administrative cost. Long story short - Fox charged my card $200.74 for the rental, $150 for damages for a car I never took, & $66.92 that I returned the vehicle late & to a different location. The day they allege I returned their car I was in AZ working. I disputed the transactions with my credit card company they credited back my account but later reversed those transactions because Fox provided paperwork that made them believe the transactions were valid.

I start going through the stack of papers from Walmart that was sent to them by Fox and the paperwork contains the name of another person. I filed a complaint with Better Bureau Business & Florida Office of the Attorney General to make them aware of these scammers. After a few days all the money was credited back in my account. We arrived to the car rental place and were greeted by a very unfriendly Rep, Amber. She barely acknowledged us and said, "License and credit card." She then proceeded to say that they only have upgrades as they were overbooked. We've been used to this in traveling so I said "ok great, we'll take a free upgrade!" She said 'uh no, you have to pay.' I explained how I didn't understand why we'd have to pay as our reservation was made weeks ago and confirmed the price we'd pay at pick up. We arrived right on the time we said we would, so what's the problem?

She looked me straight in the eye and said, "You are not getting a car unless you pay for the upgrade." She was very unpleasant so I requested to speak to a manager because I knew this wouldn't get anywhere; which of course there wasn't one - so she handed me a piece of paper with phone numbers on it. I asked if I could use her phone and she said they had no phones.

I called the number, and while I waited, Amber walked away to the other room and proceeded to say 'oh these clients ugh...' - there was no door - we could hear her... when Amber eventually came back and I was still holding, I asked her how much more the car would be - $70 additional a day, which is about $300 more than what we were quoted (almost $600 for the trip). I also asked how many people she had to upgrade tonight - she said ALL of them.

When the phone was answered, I explained the situation to the Rep, Daniel. He said he couldn't believe they were trying to make me pay extra for their overbooking issue. He couldn't get a hold of the manager because it was past 1 am but he got a hold of his manager. They tried to create a new reservation with an upgraded car online so they could change the price to what we were promised. They couldn't find any cars at this location (they were low but had vehicles - maybe they were too low to book online...). In the end, he tried but said he couldn't do anything (his hands were tied) and I would just have to speak to the location manager the next day. He apologized a ton and said he couldn't believe what was happening (me neither, Daniel!).

A different gentleman, Len **, then tried to assist us, but reiterated we would have to pay to upgrade. He was MUCH friendlier - a smile and manners go a long way Amber... In the end he just said we would have to wait and be patient and maybe a car would turn up that was smaller so we wouldn't have to upgrade. By now, it's almost 2 am.

Knowing this was a lost cause, we booked an Uber. We had already seen people sitting, waiting for cars and several others that just paid for the upgrade but were super upset about it and got a follow up phone number. To clarify - they had cars. They were literally making people pay upgraded pricing for the cars they had in stock. I went back in, said we got an Uber and asked Len ** to please ensure our reservation was canceled as we didn't want any charges going through. He said Amber had all our info and would do that. I'm now super worried she will do something malicious based on her attitude towards us. Did I mention we are now stuck for 4 days without a vehicle?!?! THIS HAS GOT TO BE ILLEGAL - false advertising with reservations that get people in the door; then we are stuck and most prob opt to pay (A whole lot more).

I got a recorded message saying that I was caller #19 and someone would be with me shortly, or I could go to their website to complete my business. After 20 minutes I was up to #11 position but I knew that I could not wait another 25-30 minutes so I hung up.

Later I went to their website to cancel my reservation but I did not have the confirmation # so I used their message service to ask them to contact me about my reservation. No response in the past 12 days (they advertise a 24 hour response). Sent another message on their site; no reply to date. Tried the process again on 8/6/17, again with no response! I then called them again and held again for about 30 minutes before someone answered. The lady I spoke to was very pleasant and confirmed that they had my reservation and gave me the confirmation number. I told her I needed to cancel the reservation and that no one had responded to my emails to that effect.

She gave me a number to call to contact "Price Line" (I had no idea that I had used that service to make the reservation). When I reached "Price Line" the lady confirmed my reservations and said that it was a "pay on pickup" service and that I did not have to cancel the reservation - it would be canceled if I did not show up at my pick up time. I insisted that I wanted to officially cancel the reservation in writing so she directed me to "rentalcar.com" where I was able to cancel (with acknowledgment of my cancellation to be provided within 24 hours.) So, now I am wondering why Fox did not respond to my emails with that information, and why did the Fox rep with whom I spoke not tell me that I did not need to cancel? Sorry, sorry service by Fox.

There were only 2 service people working the counter and as time went on they added 2 more. I was then told there would be a $150 security deposit which was news to me. I then had to find the car check it out and walk back into the line to turn in the check sheet. What POOR customer service. So I spent 2 hours till I got going. Efficiency and speed are not within their vocabulary.

Returning the car was a nightmare. Being new I figured there would be adequate signage to direct me to the rental return, there was none. If I had not seen their shuttle I would still be driving around DIA. The guy took my paperwork and told me I get an email receipt, as of 24 hours later no receipt. I was told today it would take 5-7 days to process the refund of my security deposit then I would get an email receipt. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM UNLESS YOU HAD A DAY TO KILL AND CAN AFFORD TO HAVE THEM HOLD THE FUNDS.

My family went to Orlando for a funeral and found Fox Rent A Car, which was priced reasonably for the Ford Explorer we rented from 8/2 to 8/6. It was very hot, well it is Florida in August, and got picked up by the shuttle to take us to Fox Rental. When we arrived at the facility, we walked in only to find a line of about 35 people in front of us. It took us over 2 hours to get our keys, and we did have a reservation. It became comical during the wait and decided to time how long it took each person to get their keys. The longest was 27 minutes and the shortest was 7 minutes. When we got to our Ford Explorer, the car was filthy, low tire pressure, and then the light came on indicating an oil change was due. In the future, even if we have to spend a little more, we'll rent a car from the airport terminal. You have been forewarned.

Reserved a van for a week use on Priceline for a Fox rental. When I arrived at the office and having waited in line an hour the lady told me that their cars cannot be driven across state line. Nothing in the information on Priceline stated this requirement. Had to go back into the airport and rent a car from an onsite reputable company at the last minute and with added costs over the Priceline offers. Also, they had no problem with crossing the state line. I believe unusual exception should be presented up front.

It is offsite at the Lauderdale airport which is first bad sign as most are right there at terminals. Took my husband OVER 2 HOURS to get rental and then the rental had a HORRIBLE smell, had to keep windows open. Overall car was filthy, my husband had to wash windows to make drivable, which took more additional time. Drove to Miami (only 19 miles) and stopped to grab a couple items at a grocery store and CAR DIED!!! Needed to get it jumped.

HUGE line at return in Miami, in which we saw loads (long line) of more soon to be unsatisfied customers waiting. Poor customer service all around... No one knew anything. Would have changed to any other car company but this was pre-paid through Carrentals.com, will ALWAYS use a name brand company in future... Stay away... Wish I had read reviews prior to booking!!!

They charged us SIX dollars a gallon for the gas, and they didn't explain that until they CLOSED the contract so we couldn't tell them no. They'll take advantage of you, and screw you over any way possible. Lastly, we rented the car and got outside to pick it up AND THERE'S NO CAR. Please trust these reviews and do not use Fox, by far the worst rental company I have dealt with. I decided to go against all of the reviews, thinking how bad could this really be??? And for the price??? Why not??? HUGE MISTAKE!!! My car rental was suppose to be $380, and by the time they were telling us all of the extras we HAD to take (which were lies) and the items they added on without asking, we were close to $530. That is a huge price difference!!! I called customer service to have them refund the unauthorized items and they told me that I would need to go back to the actual rental place and resign the contract when I was already 40 minutes away from where I picked the rental up at.

Then there was the car, a huge piece of junk. It smelled, had holes throughout the interior, it wasn't cleaned (inside and out) and it had scratches all over the exterior. All the cars that we had to choose from were just as awful. I can't believe that we paid over $500 for something so awful. And the employees were just as awful as the car itself. Very rude towards all of the customers, especially after we waited for close to an hour in line to get the rental. I definitely learned my lesson and will NEVER use Fox again. If there was an option of giving zero stars, they would most definitely have zero. It is a shame that I have to give one star to such a horrible company. So they ran my card for 500 and said I will get that back 4 to 7 business days after returning the car excluding weekends and holidays.

I paid 100 cash which I did not get change because they don't carry change. I was told the change will come when I get my deposit back. The car was dirty and on empty. I had the car for 2 days and returned it very early on my leaving day... The car had more than half a tank of gas when I received it on empty. It took me like 15 mins to return the car. So I waited the time specified for my deposit return I got nothing. I kept calling them they kept saying it's coming. They never ask my name so how they know it's coming... Kept calling they seem uninterested in helping me and they never intended on giving back my deposit.

Finally I had enough and got with my bank and in less than 10 days I got my money back after waiting almost 3 weeks... Car returned on June 27 deposit was returned on 21 of July only because I got my bank involved... There is nothing good I can say about this company. They should be closed down... We were cheated, blatantly, by the San Francisco airport branch of this company. We rented a car from them on June 27 and returned it June 30. When we picked up the car, people at the desk - several - and also people at the pickup point told us that there was a special promotion, that we should not fill up the car; the gas would be free. We asked carefully and repeatedly because this seemed very unusual. And when we returned the car, we again asked and were reassured that this was the case, a special deal. But when we were billed, we were billed for almost $50 worth of gas. And on the phone the company denied that there was such an offer, that we had misunderstood.

We always fill a rental car on its return. We would never have taken it back not refilled if we hadn't been told over and over again that there would be no charge.

In addition, when the company initially quoted the price for the rental, they did not reveal all the additional charges, taxes, airport fees, that would be added on, so their quote was deceptively low compared to other companies. This company is clearly out there to cheat, or at least its employees at the San Francisco airport outlet are. There was a deliberate effort to deceive and that is outrageous and dishonest.

I do not recommend Fox rental car at all. At first it looks like cheaper than other rental cars but they will rip you off, it is more expensive than other car rentals. Following are how they overcharge you, similar to other customers complaint reported.

    1. They charged me deposit for $150 deposit and return money was $148.30, I read this in most customers review complain.
    2. The insurance coverage is much more expensive than other rental cars. I did not know the credit card usually is covering your rental car insurance. I think AARP is covering your rental car insurance.
    3. I did not ask for road side assistance and they charged me $4.99 per day.
    4. Fox rental car send me an invoice for administration fee of $30 for Toll, even though I paid for my toll. I read this in most customers review.

    5. They try to convince you that their gas is cheaper than outside, not true.

As I read other customers complain it was similar to mine, I recommend reporting this stealing agency to “better business bureau” and “general attorney”. They need to be approach by law to stop them from ripping off the people.

I would never recommend this scam of a company to anyone. I never heard of this company nor used this company. My sister in-law found the site and told me about it. I was looking for a company that wasn't almost 300 dollars just to rent a car for a week. I usually use Hertz or another company on MCO airport and pay less than 220 for 8 days. But because the time my vacation is scheduled it is a high demand so every place was higher than I ever paid. So when my sister in-law told me about Fox I decided to see what the price was and it was under 200 what was great. Now remind you I reserved the car and Thursday at 6 something. I picked my location where I wanted to pick the car up from.

I choose MCO airport. Never did it say anything about being off site. I didn't find that out until I paid by credit card and received my confirmation email that it gave me the location and said they was off site. That's when I decided to cancel my reservation three hours after making the reservation. Now I seen that it said if you cancel 24 hrs or more you have to pay 70 dollars which is a rip off because I didn't have the reservation over 12 to 24 hrs, so I shouldn't have to pay anything. Now they have two options for paying. Pay now and save or pay later. I choose to pay now but what is not fair is that because I pay now and cancel my reservation I have to pay 70 dollar but others who pay later don't have to pay anything.

But that wasn't my problem. I decided to forfeit the 70 dollars to get a car that was actually on site of the airport. When I checked my card the total of the car was pending. Not only was that pending but my security deposit was also pending. How can you take a security deposit for a car that I haven't even picked up yet and wouldn't be there to get the car in over a week. I still let it go and waited until Saturday to see if my card wasn't pending anymore so I could get another rental company but to my surprise my card was still charged and they only gave me back 80 dollars. The same day I reserved the car and canceled now. My card is short over 200 something dollars and I can't talk to anyone until Monday because their billing is closed on weekends.

I send them a very nice comment and told them that if they don't fix the problem I will be contacting a lawyer for my money. Never should they have taken my money. They was suppose to stop payment and only charge me the 70 dollars. If they don't return my money and try to give me a hard way to go to get it back I will have to get a lawyer and I don't care how much that will cost because I will make sure that my lawyer fees and any other fees will come out of their pocket, as well and my pain and suffering. They need to understand that playing with people money isn't a good and I'm willing to take it as far as I have to for not only myself but for future customers they try to get over on.

Fox Rentals at the Fort Meyers Airport in Florida seemed to offer a very good deal for the money, but after the rental was complete, they kept an additional $71.00 of my $400.00 deposit. My rental cost $12.25 per day and with additional taxes, etc., which came out to $36.75 for 2 days. When we rented the car, the office only had one rep at the counter with a line out the door. While we were there we witnessed a lady being held up by a non-functioning trunk on a convertible with 3 additional Fox Rental employees trying to assist her. This occurred with 5 people waiting in line for cars with the one representative at the counter. When we finally reached the rep, she rented us the car informing us that if we returned the car by 11:15 AM on the day of our return (allowing an hour grace period), we would not be charged an additional day. We didn't return the car until 1:30, 1 hour and fifteen minutes past the grace period. I expected to be charged an addition $12.50.

However, not only were we charged an additional day of $12.50, but an extra $35 for the car + fees totaling $71. I called their customer service and was not allowed to speak to a supervisor when I asked for one. I was told that regardless of what the office rep told us the day we rented the car, the additional fees above an extra day's rental were outlined in the two pages of fine print they gave us in the contract. I am very dissatisfied with Fox Rentals and would definitely NOT recommend their services to anyone needing to rent a car. Additionally, I was told that it would be 7 to 14 business days for the return of my deposit. Why was a $400 deposit needed when I provided proof of my own full coverage, premium insurance policy? After reading other reviews of Fox Rentals, I realized that problems with additional fees was a common theme in their business practices.

We were NEVER told that there would be an administrative fee of $15 PER toll. That is outrageous. When we arrived the representative was insisted that we used e-pass plates $7.00 a day or we will be charged $14.00 a day for accidentally going through express tolls. So we agreed.

When we went to select the vehicle we were responsible for inspecting the vehicle for every dent, scratch or imperfection. It was said any dents not marked we were billed. So we inspected the car at 1 am in the dark with our camera phone light. Unbelievably! Later that morning we realized one of the chairs did not move, the car steering wheel trembled and it felt like the tire was on its way out. When I opted no for refill gas and other extra insurances, he stared at me angrily. I hope the GM there Bob ** would do something about this particular person at the counter.

SHAME ON FOX RENT A CAR! Warning: HORROR STORY follows. I needed a rental car fast and cheap -- I found out my grandfather was rushed to ICU and booked a cross-country flight to get there as fast as possible. My husband (same last name, joint credit card account) books me a car through rentalcar.com from Fox to be there when I land. It's a good thing, because by the time I land, I learn that he's on life support and my grandfather is waiting to die at the hospital until I get there from the airport.

Despite the fact that my GRANDFATHER MAY DIE ALONE if I don't get this rental car, the employees tell me they can't give it to me because the last four digits of my credit card are different than the one my husband booked it with. Never mind we have the same last name, it's the same account, and the bank will take either of our signatures on the card.

If that weren't bad enough, they then take FORTY-FIVE MINUTES staring at a computer to find a solution while I start crying at their counter. I'm willing to pay more -- I'm willing to rebook -- I just need some sort of solution to get to the hospital. SHAME ON YOU. There has to be a policy to deal with spouses; and even if there isn't, does the Fox company not allow you to be a human being and figure something out in an incredible situation?? DO NOT SUPPORT THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR MONEY.

We received a bill two weeks later for $10 in tolls and $90 in administration fees. This administration fees are very aggressive and excessive. Secondly, the car they were planning to give us was severely banged up and we had to wait an extra hour more in the offsite location to the airport for a available car. You get what you pay for. For $20 more a day, perhaps we would not had as much trouble from one of the other majors that had counters in the airport.

We picked up our car in San Diego. Apparently no one checked the car, they just filled it with gas and washed it because it was still covered with water. It was around 56 degrees and evening when we picked up the car. So of course we didn't check to see if the air conditioner worked. We drove it through the Mojave desert, where it was 102 degrees, with two small children and the air conditioner wouldn't come on and the car acted like it didn't want to shift into the next gear. When we called to tell Fox, they said someone would get back to us. Fox never called, emailed or anything. When we finally returned the car, they said they would make a note on it. And they would refund us 45 dollars. Will never will rent from them again. Common courtesy would have been to call the customer back and trade out cars.

On April 19, 2017 I reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar full sized SUV from Fox Car Rental in Phoenix at Sky Harbor Airport for my upcoming vacation starting on June 16, 2017. I prepaid for the car rental in order to get a cheaper rate and had a confirmed reservation in hand when I arrived at the Fox Car Rental location. My flight came in at 11:15 and my daughter's flight came in at 12:20, so I indicated we would pick up the car around 12:00 noon. Her flight got in early so we arrived at 12:15 and then stood in line for almost 45 minutes before finally getting to the desk.

The desk clerk, Zina, took my confirmation and then informed me that because I was not there at 12:00 noon they had given my vehicle to someone else. In total disbelief, I argued with her that my vehicle was prepaid and that the reason I was standing in front of her at 1:00 pm was because she was the only clerk working for most of that wait time - and I had prepaid for my vehicle so how could they just assign it to someone else? Zina indicated that she could give us a minivan and I refused, saying we had selected this particular vehicle to meet our travel needs and we did not want a minivan. She then made a call to her manager, Dave, and spoke with him. She asked if I would like to speak with him because management did not understand what she has to deal with when things like this happen and I responded that I would be glad to speak with him.

She then offered us a Kia Sportage and I again refused, stating that we own a Kia Sportage and this vehicle was too small for 3 adults and all our luggage to travel in for a week. She then said she could give us a 4-door Jeep Cherokee and we said no because this vehicle had no room for luggage at all. She kept stressing that the vehicles she was offering were all very new and very expensive, when I questioned what these alternative vehicles cost to rent vs. what I had prepaided two months earlier.

She got a call from her manager and then hung up and said that the Jeep Cherokee was all they had to offer me. I asked her why she did not let me speak to her manager when he called and she said he told her that was the only vehicle available to us. As we were leaving the desk we heard the other desk clerk telling a customer that they did not have the Jeep Cherokee he has reserved as it had just been given out to another customer! While we were going through this ordeal I looked and there were at least 6 customers in line, but I noted two of them walked away after listening to our issue.

We went downstairs to pick up our vehicle and I commented to the desk clerk, Elizabeth, that I was very unhappy with the entire situation and that I had now wasted more than an hour of my vacation trying to resolve an issue that should have never arisen. Elizabeth made a call to her manager, Dave, and then said they could get us a Dodge Journey and five minutes later an employee drove up in a black Dodge Journey that had just been washed. Elizabeth had asked if I wanted to speak with her manager, Dave, and I indicated that I did want to speak with him, but when he called her she never offered me the phone.

I cannot believe that this company can be allowed to bait and switch vehicles like they are doing and I will certainly never use them again, regardless of whether they are the cheapest or not. Zina just kept giving lip service and trying to pawn off other vehicles on us. At least Elizabeth was proactive and was able to get us a suitable vehicle, but it took nearly two hours to resolve this issue - what a way to start my vacation.

Then when you went to get the car they added all these fees and they had a 40.00 gas fee when you return it. The wait line to get out of the parking lot took a long Time. Make sure you get the insurance on the car because if you're some scratch on the vehicle. It's also an off site car rental at the Las Vegas, NV airport. Have to take 2 shuttles. Cars had lots of scratches on the outside and scuff marks in the inside. Cars drive nice. Didn't appreciate the agamet not speaking English and charge me a fees for over things.

I told her the tank was taken out full and returned full and because the agent mistakenly charged me they need to fix the error. She refused and repeatedly said I signed for it. I signed for the car rental not the prepaid fuel.

I verbally said I would bring back the car full and I would take care of it. It's not even a major expense and the loss of a repeat customer over it is ridiculous and horrible business. Why would a person fill a tank if they purchased prepaid fuel? This is not brain surgery. Avoid Fox. There are better discount rentals. Thrifty, Payless, Dollar. Fox stinks. Granted in the agreement with Fox it states that any toll unpaid when renting a vehicle, is subject to a 15 dollar processing fee. Fox also recognizes that in some states, like Florida (where we rented the car) there are roads where there is no toll booth, in fact the toll is automatically billed to the license tag of the vehicle. Once the driver notices the automatic toll, at that point, there is no way to exit or go around the toll. The simple fact that Fox recognizes these facts and then sends the consumer a 15 dollar processing fee is nothing short of extortion, and unfair. Just a means to generate capital. How many people don't stand up and just pay the bill?

We rented the vehicle, paid tolls all over Orlando, and we're caught on one road with no toll booth. A big sign on the road stating automatic billing to tags of vehicles for 1.06. Fox of course is charging us 16.06 (1.06 toll plus 15 dollars processing). They told us we had to take it up with the Florida Toll Authorities. Never again Fox.

This is my first rental experience at FOX Rental and it was EXTREMELY TERRIBLE! IF my problem is not fully solved, this will be my last rental experience at FOX. The problem is stated below: I reserved a Ford Explorer online and when I got to SFO to take the car, an agent told me there is no Ford Explorer anymore and tried to give me a minivan, but I decided not to have it after I saw the car. Then I returned to the counter and another agent asked me what car do I reserved. I told her Ford Explorer and then she gave me the key! I felt CHEATED, but this is only the beginning!

Then I went to the garage and got the car. However, I saw there was "O/C" on the front window, so I returned to the agent and asked her if the car needed oil change or there was any other problem with the car. Surprisingly, the agent just said, "No problem, just go and take it." So I just took the car and left. However, this was the beginning of the SECOND CHEATING! When I drove the car to Las Vegas, the oil alert turned on, which forced me to swap a car in Las Vegas! There was 1/3 tank fuel in the car when I tried to swap it. I went to the agent there and told him the situation. Then he promised me to swap a car for me, but no a single word about the fuel refill policy (If I know I would be charged for that, I definitely would refill the car before I swap it). After that, I got another same model car with full fuel and left.

However, while I returned the car in SFO, I was charged for the fuel in the swapped car and it was $6.99/gal! I had no idea what's going on and it took the agent some time to find out. Finally I talked to the manager of FOX Rental in SFO, but he was impatient, kept saying refilling fuel is my responsibility and told me to call customer service. He also said, I definitely could not get my money back. But my point is not the money, it is the fact that I was CHEATED again and again, for a THIRD TIME!

Don't you know telling the needed information to your customer is your responsibility!? Cheating to your customer is bad enough, not to mention the fact that I spent 3 or 4 hours to handle all this stuff! Oh, I almost forgot that I was charged additional fuel fee for $182 by mistake. Sorry, I don't mean to be aggressive but it is really upset to have such an experience. If you can solve the problem for me, I would be very grateful. But if not, it is ok and I hope you close down ASAP.

I reserved this size vehicle because I was traveling with my son and husband from Denver and meeting my daughter and mother in PHX. The 5 of us would be returning to Denver together with 5 large suitcases needing to be accommodated. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle we were told that they didn't have the reserved vehicle available. What then is the point of making a reservation? The agent said that sometimes cars don't come back on time or they come back damaged and this was why they didn't have the car. We were offered a minivan. A minivan was NOT what I reserved! They then told me it would be an additional $10 to add my husband as a driver! What?

After an hour+ of getting nowhere, at 11:30 PM, and with another an hour to drive to our destination, we finally took a Chrysler 300. The guy who brought out the car told me they overbook all the time! My son and husband were finally able to maneuver 3 large bags into the trunk with no space for anything else. The return to the airport was a disaster! My son, daughter and mother were in the back seat with 2 large suitcases across their laps for the hour long drive back to Sky Harbor! Not only was this extremely uncomfortable, it was very dangerous!!!

Although the price on the car was less than the original SUV reservation, we did not receive what we needed. I am extremely unhappy with my first (and last) experience with Fox Rent A Car and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. I am just beginning the process of requesting a refund. Got to the airport early to pickup car. Went to the rental counter and they tried to add on everything in charges but the kitchen sink. I explained I didn't need all of those extra upsells and the girl at the counter kept trying to sell me more. She then wanted to give me a "fun" car and I explained I needed the car that I ordered due to functionality. I was on business, not there for fun. Finally went to go get the car and had to wait close to an hour because there weren't any cars in the type I requested. They only had "fun" cars available. Then they found one I needed and had to clean it first and it took even longer. Finally they bring the car and it is covered in dents and dings. We insisted that they walk the car and make sure they note all of the dents and dings in the car.

I only had that car a day when the tire was going flat. I called them to let them know and I had to wait on the phone 2 hours before I could speak to a live person. I waited and then ended up being transferred to the same line on which I held onto for 2 hours and finally I get an agent. His name was Robert and he tells me to take the car with the low tire pressure to the gas station and pay to get it fixed. I said that was not going to happen, I said for him to send somebody out. He said, "No we won't do that" and he doesn't know where I am located and then he said, "Drive on the flat tire back to where I got the car". I said, "No, please send somebody to fix it" and he said no again. He then told me he wasn't even in the same state (which I find very odd). He said he was in Oklahoma and he wouldn't give me to a supervisor when I asked for somebody else.

He said call another number which he proceeded to give me and it wasn't the right number. I ended up calling back again and was on hold again until I got Robert again! I got nowhere with this person again and he was very rude and I filed a complaint to Fox. That was over a week ago and I still got no results or nobody contacted me from Fox. So I drove over to Fox the next day on a flat tire and praying that it didn't totally go out. I get there and they only had a few cars - I worked with Gama who was the nicest person and very helpful. But he explained he had only limited SUVs available and said the one he had had over 30,000 miles on it. It also had every dent, ding and badly damaged rear section of the car. I said, "I don't care. I'll take the car as long as the tires aren't flat."

The Fox Rental cars are in terrible condition and apparently they don't care. I have never seen such terrible cars! Gama said they will make note of all of the damages and I should not worry. The best part of this horrible experience is that when I return the car at 4:00 AM before it was due to be back. The guy who is there to take the car back his name is Robert! He definitely wasn't in Oklahoma and it appears to be too much of a coincidence. He also proceeded to give me a hard time about all of the dents, dings and damages. I said, "Pull your records, you gave me this car in this condition and it was all marked on the forms when I came in to get the 2nd car." I had to argue with him first before he would let me leave. He tried blaming me for the crappy car they gave me and the dents, dings and damages. I proceeded to tell him that Gama helped us and this car was already full of dents, dings and damages.

He then signed off on the form and let me go on my way as I had an early flight. This is the worst rental car company ever! Do not go to them because they don't have the cars you request and try and sell you extras and also try to get you to take cars that you don't want. It would be kind of hard to take a "fun" car when I had luggage and boxes to put in the car. I will never go to them again! Rent elsewhere! When they say cheap cars they mean CHEAP cars!

I had a family member with me who witnessed everything. I said to the employee, that car just hit me, she said yes it did. I felt my hip and shoulder were sore and I could walk and move so I walked to the front passenger window and looked in. The window was up, the driver refused to open the window or acknowledge me in any way. I said, "Dude you hit me." No response. At all.

The employee got my attention and said she would refund me the amount of $335.37 which was the cost of the rental. I said, "Yes that would be a good idea." She also said She couldn't print that for me though because her machine wasn't working. I believe I was in shock as I didn't know what to do and no one asked if I was OK or if I needed help.

When I returned to my family member's home I noticed an email from them stating there was no refund of any sort even my deposit. I checked with my bank and as I write this on May 1, 2017 I have not been refunded any monies from Fox Rent A Car. I called customer service and five hours later after speaking with numerous "customer service and claims" people I found out that the driver of the car that hit me is the manager at this location. He stated, to my family member, "I was waiting to see if She needed medical attention or an ambulance." He then said he didn't hit me.

The other employee now states it never happened, regarding, me getting hit by a car while standing next to her and her acknowledging that when the car hit me. I have been to a medical professional. I have never heard from the manager at this location or the regional director who was supposed to handle this situation. I don't know if I am supposed to say names but I sure can as I have everyone's name that was there. There is supposed to be an incident report yet I have never been given a copy, remember their machines weren't working.

I travel for my business, I have rented cars all over the United States. I have never been treated with such disregard and complete incompetence. Fox Rent A Car how dare you not take responsibility when one of your customers is hit by a vehicle owned by you and driven by your representative. What happened to integrity or just plain concern for another human being that you have hurt physically.

I was told I would have a Camaro convertible reserved on April 28th. When I arrived the person at the counter said the only car available was a Dodge Caravan. The Camaro convertible part of the wedding. I will give the counter person credit in that he did make phone calls and it wasn't his fault that the car wasn't available. I had to go to Hertz and pay more for the car. It was part of the wedding so I had no choice but to pay the extra money. Fox offered a better price but didn't come through for me. In the future I will stay with Hertz or Alamo. They've never let me down the way Fox did. I won't go to Fox Car Rentals again.

I was renting a car at San Francisco Airport. What a bad experience! Stay away from this company! At the desk guy, his name was Nick, told me that the only option to pay tolls was to buy plan from Fox for $50.00. Otherwise I would pay toll plus $90.00 penalty each time I use Golden Gate Bridge. He never explained I could pay tolls myself using the website. He also "advised" to prepay full tank of gas so I could return a car with a quarter of tank gas. I agreed and signed on small screen not really being aware what I signed. Paper hard copy agreement with signatures is produced after signing.

A week later when returning a car they told me I need to pay $48.00 penalty because tank was not full! At this moment I looked very closely at agreement. It was my mistake I did not do that a week before, but I was tired after 6 hours flight from NJ and did not expect someone could lie so badly!!! I realized why he lied about toll plan being $50.00. I was renting for 7 days, their plan is $11.49 a day. That makes about $80.43 total which is close $50.00 plus $32.00 for full tank gas, for which I actually did not pay!

I spoke with manager, he charged me $32.00 for gas and waived $48.00 fee. He saved me $12.00 but he even did not mention about other fees and did not apologize. When I called Customer Service and explained that I could pay tolls for crossing 3 times Golden Gate Bridge myself they told me that "It's possible you could have used toll roads/bridges which you were not aware being toll roads because they were not marked. In such case you would have to pay penalties." I asked why California would be so different than NJ or NY where all tolls are marked with signs and there are no "hidden" tolls. Her response was that she does not live in California. Now I fully understand why the name their company Fox or FOX.

But they would use the money that I had paid to rent a similar vehicle but now that vehicle was going to be double the cost I originally paid. I spoke to multiple people in customer service and was told there was nothing they could do. I was not able to get a refund or the vehicle. They didn't care or honor their agreement. It was robbery.

We had a terrible experience with Fox at SFO airport in January, and I would warn anyone away from them. We go to California every year to see family and usually rent with other companies, but got a surprisingly good deal with Fox via RentalCars.com. This should have been a clue. When we arrived at the rental car counter there was a two-plus hour wait for a car, and it was three hours total before we drove away with our car, which really compromised our vacation plans for our first day. Plus, the car we got wasn't fully cleaned. We were headed for Southern California later in the week and paid for PlatePass for our entire eight-day trip, and Fox ASSURED us that PlatePass covered The Toll Roads in SoCal.

Three months later I received a notice of violation from The Toll Roads for two tolls and $200 in penalty fees. After three days of phone calls and getting the runaround from everyone, I was finally told by Fox that PlatePass does not cover The Toll Roads in SoCal, and that they knew about this problem in the SFO office. I was eventually able to get Fox to refund my toll amount of $12.72, since they lied and told me that PlatePass should cover it, but they didn't care about the $200 in penalties that The Toll Roads were charging me. I was able to get The Toll Roads to lower my penalties to $40 after explaining the rental car situation to multiple people, but despite multiple correspondences with Fox, I have no hope of getting that $40 reimbursed. Avoid this company if at all possible, they have been terrible to deal with at every turn.

We made do, and were just going to chalk it up to a bad rental car experience and vowed not to ever use Fox again. However, I then received a bill for a toll. First of all, I only used the HOV 2+ lane, and the signs said HOV 2+ no toll. When I called the Fastrak, they said there was no record of a toll on my license plate, but Fox is billing me for the $1.50 toll plus a $15 admin fee.

When I arrived at SFO on February 19, 2017, I was greeted by Maira who told me that there wasn't the type of SUV that I reserved, there was only ONE FORD EXPLORER in the fleet and I had to take that car. She told me that I would be charged $70 a day for the car, inclusive of all taxes, for a total of $420.00. I asked for a supervisor, I was told there wasn't any around. I asked her to honor my conversation with Irad, she handed me back my drivers license and told me to look elsewhere for a car since she will no longer help me.

With my back against the wall, three kids and a disabled husband, along with multiple pieces of luggage, we took the car, again asking if the $70/day was INCLUSIVE of all charges. She said yes and processed my card. The box that shows what the customer is signing is minute. As in close to 3 inches wide. There is no conceivable way someone can scrutinize what they are signing and compare rates with no ability to see what they are reading in its entirety. More so, she was very curt and short with me and was rushing me. Upon taking the car, I began to look at the receipt and immediately called Fox Rent A Car again. No one answered the phone. Arrived in the Miami FL location to find a lobby full of unhappy people from waiting (the line was out the door). Finally after an approx 45 min wait I'm told the reserved car is unavailable. Being somewhat aggravated now, I choose another option which is now more $ because I wanted to leave, had to wait again for them to confirm they even have this vehicle. This choice now also unavailable & aggravation level is at the peak. I have been here for over an hr now. I said "please just give me a compact car." I'm informed the price of $127 is nonrefundable no matter what vehicle I rent. Option 4 now took even longer again finding out if the vehicle is even available. I'm now out the door, waiting for said car to be cleaned. No one goes over the (POOR) condition of this car so having rented many times I make sure this is noted on my contract BEFORE driving away.

The antenna for the radio is completely missing, try to listen to a radio without one? You're not. The windows in the rear of the convertible didn't even go up all the way and this car was very poorly cleaned. Got to my destination and the drop off rental place said they couldn't even believe the condition of this car I paid $127 to rent! I would not ever return to that Miami location but the Ft Lauderdale one was a 180 degree difference and would possibly consider going to this location but it wouldn't be the 1st choice in rentals. I am suggesting that anyone reading explore your options 1st. I rented the exact same car a week before at Budget and this was hands down a 100% better condition, kept up, and more of the luxury options vs the basic at Fox rental.

My husband and I rented a car in Vieux Fort Airport in St. Lucia in March 2017 thru EXPEDIA. This was our 6th time of renting a car in the Caribbean, but the first time with Fox. Our car was an older model Mitsubishi Lancer. The pick up at the airport went smoothly, but after driving the car 1 1/2 hours to the resort, we noticed that the left front tire was low on air. Closer inspection showed that 3 of the 4 tires had belts showing on them. We had to put air in the front tire, 3 times during our weeks stay. My husband is always extremely careful while driving and parking the car during the week and always washes and wipes it down before returning it.

When turning it in at the airport, the FOX representative, Celina, informed us that there was a 8" "scratch" on the front air dam (spoiler). My husband looked at it and said that it was a scuff mark that could easily be removed. Celina stated that this was not the case and informed us that we would have to write up a report and pay for the "scratch" to be removed. My husband took toothpaste and water and rubbed the scuff mark out while Celina argued with us. It was only after 30 minutes of my husband laying on the ground rubbing this scuff mark off that Celina finally agreed that we would not have to pay! This certainly was not the perfect ending to a perfect vacation. We have never experienced this type of "harassment" with any other rent a car company. We will not be renting from FOX in the future!

I was very disappointed with the vehicle we received from Fox. We specifically requested a Ford Explorer, which was advertised as their 7 passenger car. Upon arrival in Las Vegas, we had to take 2 shuttle buses to get to the business. Keep in mind this is 9:30 pm, there was a long line of about 10 customers, there were 2 clerks behind the desk. Each clerk was trying to up sale each person as they checked out, hence the long wait. By the time we had checked out we were offered a Mazda mdx, because we were told they were busy and had no Explorers left. To my knowledge, when a vehicle is reserved, it is not to be given to anyone else.

When we went to the parking lot to pick up the car, we were then given a Hyundai Santa Fe. Granted the vehicle was "7" passenger (tight). So me, my wife, and 3 daughters, piled 6 pieces of luggage and all of us in the car and headed to Kingman, AZ. The starter grinded the whole week we had the car, it was dirty and had several scuffs on the outside, which were noted before we left. Luckily the car ran ok while we had it for a week.

However, upon arrival back to Las Vegas for our return home, we stopped to have lunch on Flamingo Blvd. The car would not start when we finished lunch. My wife attempted to call the Fox car rental in Las Vegas, with no answer. The corporate office told us that it was up to us to use our insurance for roadside assistance. We ended up taking a cab from the restaurant back to the Fox, Las Vegas location. They did reimburse the cab fee with tip, we got full deposit back and they did not charge extra for the 1/8 of a tank that was missing. I really feel someone from the business should have sent another car to us to use for the rest of the day. By the time we took the cab I was ready to go to the airport and leave. My wife and kids felt the same way.

We rented a midsize car from Ft. Myers and we dropped it off in Tampa 5 days later. When we picked up the car, the girl told us it was all set to go. We've rented enough to know that you ALWAYS check out the vehicle before you take off. The first thing we noticed was front bumper damage. As we walked around the car, the rear bumper was scratched and there were a few dings on the side. We went back in to get the employee who noted the damage on our contract. I'm sure we would've been responsible for that damage when we returned the car. Soon after we got on the interstate, the tire pressure light came on for the front passenger tire. We were going to a wedding in Sarasota so we didn't have time to turn around and take it back so we drove it on to our destination.

That evening, the tire had lost even more pressure. The car had 50,000 miles on it and the tires looked like the original ones as the treads were very worn. My husband also noticed that one of the tires had been plugged. The next morning we called Fox fully expecting them to bring us another car and we were told that we needed to take it to Firestone and get it repaired!!! The tire pressure was down to 23 at this point. She said they could not bring another car. When my husband asked to speak to her manager or customer service, she said she would have to email them and they would contact us, which they never did. We took the car to Firestone and fortunately we had friends to follow us and bring us back. The guy at Firestone said we would have to pay for the tire and get reimbursed from Fox because he hated dealing with them because they were very difficult to deal with.

We went back to our condo and my husband found the customer service phone number on the internet. He spent a good part of his day talking to Fox and to Firestone about the tire. The guy at Firestone ended up replacing the tire and noted that all of the tires needed replacing due to the worn tread. The vehicle was at Firestone all day. The point of all of this fiasco is we had to spend our vacation time dealing with an issue when Fox could've just brought us another car and dealt with the issue on their own. They gave us 2 free days for the bad experience which amounted to $40. The guy at Firestone said Enterprise is the best place to rent from when you have an issue with the car because they take care of everything and you are not inconvenienced on YOUR vacation. Never again, Fox!

This feedback is for rental car picked up from SFO airport on 03/04 and returned at LAX airport on 03/07. For this trip, I was looking forward to get a convertible car even though it involved paying $200 drop off fees. If it would not have been a convertible, I would have only paid $100 drop off fee for a economy. I booked through Rentalcars.com. Since no one answers if you call their support number, I had a chat with your representative, who assured me that although I may not get the exact car I have booked (which I completely understand) but I will be getting the same class.

To my disappointment, at 2 AM at SFO I was told that no convertible is available. I asked to instead give me an economy car as I was not willing to pay hefty drop off fee for any other car. But the representative at airport told that only one car Dodge Challenger is available. I was left with no choice but take whatever I was given. When I asked for any contact number of manager of location, I was denied and told that I have to go through regular customer service.

I called next day, after 45 minutes of hold, someone picked up the call and they clearly refused to give any kind of discount on hefty drop off fee which I was only ready to pay for convertible. Customer service's argument was that they give me Dodge Challenger and it has same drop off fee. It is a logical question, what if I would have booked an economy and since this was the only car available at location (as per SFO staff) would have I paid $200 fee for drop off. Answer is "NO". I would have paid $100.

I was ready to go to location and switch before heading to LA if any economy car was available. But customer service had no idea if I will get a car if I go to airport again also, they offered to transfer the call to location saying they don't have any guarantee of someone will pick up and actually no one did. Basically, they wanted to me to interrupt my vacation and drive 30 miles to the airport just to check if they can give be any other car or the discount.

This was not enough, to my shock, after returning car and heading to airport, I noticed that SFO lady has charged me with a number of things I never asked. I clearly denied damage waiver stating that I will use the cover from credit card. I clearly asked her to remove $11 plate pass charge. My only mistake was at 2 AM in the morning after so much discussion over convertible car, I trusted the Fox Rental desk personnel and did not bother to recheck the rental agreement. Even with drop off fee, the total I was supposed to pay was $399 + $55 prepaid fuel + $20 roadside assistance which comes to be $475.

I can see in receipt that they have given me $47 discount of car price only, nothing on drop off fee, nothing on TAXES, which have been charged on original convertible charges. Even then, I ended up paying $573. Way more what I expected and not getting the car I booked for. I have previously booked with several rental companies including Dollar, Thifty, Avis. I am regular customer of Hertz and Enterprise. To be honest. This was the worst rental experience. Fox rental to my believe is just extracting money from customers by scamming them.

Then you find out you must return the auto 55 minutes before it is due back or you are tagged with a large fee. The auto selection is poor and the auto had several large dings and scuffs. The inside had stains on the seats, very poor quality, not what you expect for the price paid. I think I would have done better with a larger national chain, they are not deal. Stay away from them and never book from a 3rd party site (Expedia etc.).

I asked them to take larger deposit said they had to follow policy. My profile is on file, same address, phone number and other information. 11:00pm in Los Angeles no car. Walked to several other rentals, no cars or $$$$$. Got a return flight home $$$$$. I had to rent room $$$$$. Bad experience that could have been avoided with a little customer service.

One and half hours later they try to give us a car with a flat tire but said they would put air in it. Really! Why did it go flat! Looking for another vehicle but must find the keys first. Now they need to wash and clean it too. This place should close.

When I picked up my car there were problems from the start. Which included the wrong car, and trying to change the car I was renting from a hero Cherokee to a minivan. I didn't notice a problem till I started putting my daughter’s car seat in the car. It had a odd smell, but I just thought oh well this will last until we reach her father then we will use that car seat. I left the airport and then I figured out what the smell was. My stupid rental car smelled like marijuana. I was so mad. My daughter was in the car with me and she has severe allergies.

As soon as I reach our hotel I called Fox rental to complain, the lady her name was Lauren on the phone was helpful and said I wasn't very far from Oakland I could drive my car there, and exchange it. So then I drive to Oakland Airport, well I did and after driving an hour they told me it would be an hour wait and I wasn't guaranteed a car since I rented from SFO. I was so frustrated. So me and my husband decided to try to let it air out and spray it with spray. We didn't have a choice but to deal with it until I flew out on Tuesday. This was the worst experience for me and my family. My daughter had to use her nebulizer for an asthma attack midway thru the trip. Never again will I use this horrible company.

Fox Rent a Car Ft Lauderdale Fla. worst nightmare - I had a prepaid rental agreement. I should have known that something was wrong when You had to pay upfront?? When I got there, there were 3 people in front of me at 9PM. We waited for the one agent at the counter for 3 hrs. Three more agents were in the back room but wouldn't come out. Got going at midnight. I paid for a jeep and got a small Kia Sportage, way too small for my disabled Husband. They brought out the Sportage, it was wet and I inspected it and saw nothing damaged.

The next morning I found 3 dings in the passenger door, that I was sure I would be responsible for. We planned on a long road trip some of which was down to the Florida keys. We were in Hollywood Florida when I locked my keys in the car. I tried to call their roadside assistance and got a recording, did that for hours. Finally was told to call a locksmith at my expense. I figured it was several miles to Fox rental car at the Ft Lauderdale airport to get an extra key for the 2016 Kia Sportage. It cost me $50 round trip for the cab only to be told they didn't have extra keys. They said to call a locksmith. All while my disabled Husband stood by the car to make sure it wasn't ticketed or towed. I got back and called a locksmith who charged me $550.00 to make a new key and remote.

When I talked to Fox later, they said I should have paid for roadside assistance. I wasn't even offered that option??? All of this took over 6 hrs and $600 later. Needless to say I hope my ranting will help someone else not make the same mistake I did, an expensive lesson. I just Thank God this didn't happen in the Florida Keys, we would still be there??? When I brought the car back they said it wasn't completely filled and that I owed them $5.00 a gallon. I said I just filled it 1/2 mile ago. They were going to charge me and that's it. They take a $150 or more deposit on your CC when You get the car?? I would say this is literally highway robbery and there is not much you can do about it but just warn the public about them!!! SAD!

On the return of bringing the car back the line was out the door. We were able to check out but it took about 45 minutes to check out. Luckily we had plenty of time for our flight. I would highly recommend not using this company to save a little money and not have the aggravation of waiting.

After saying 3x that I prepaid in full and refused to pay any more, the agent said the magic words, "OH, SO YOU DECLINE" the additional coverage. On then did he relent. Most renter's personal auto insurance covers this liability as do many credit cards. By the way, the car had a big hole in the carpet near the driver's gas pedal foot and only when I strenuously insisted, would they make a tiny dot on a pre-rental inspection form. CHECK ALL PARTS OF THEIR CARS VERY VERY CAREFULLY and get damages clearly notated. My sister and I planned a trip to the grand canyon and Sedona and booked a rental car from Fox Rent A Car company through Expedia, which we planned on driving from Las Vegas and returning in Phoenix Arizona. We were hoping to enjoy a nice drive from Las Vegas on our way to the grand canyon, after which we were doing to make our way to Sedona and finish off in Phoenix. All went according to plan except for the rental car. In my attempts to cut the cost of my trip, I booked a car rental reservation with Fox Rent A Car, because they were offering the best rate for the type of car we wanted, which was a SUV cross over. They were offering a Kia Sportage for $14.89 per day, whereas their competitors were offering the same type of car for twice as much. I should have suspected that this deal was too good to be true, but I figured that this car rental company must be reputable as they are listed on Expedia. Wrong!!!

Our troubles began the moment we arrived. Firstly, this rental car company takes you off site from the airport miles away, so there are no other options once you have arrived. Our problem was that we needed to get to the Grand Canyon by 11 pm, otherwise the hotel was going to give away our room as they were booked and our flight was delayed by 2 hours, so we had about 4 hours to get to the grand canyon and we didn't have a choice at this point. The representative at the Las Vegas office informed us that we were charged a drop off fee of $189.85 and that we were being charged $150 renter's fee. When we asked what the fee was for, he simply said that it was policy and that the money would be returned to our account within 2-5 days of this transaction.

The representative also stated that he felt that the drop fee was excessive and that it was being imposed by the Phoenix branch and suggested that we discuss the matter with them and hopefully they can reduce the fee. But at this point, we had to pay this fee in order to get the car. And given our time sensitive situation, we were forced to take the rental car. I spoke to a representative from Expedia the following day about this matter of hidden fees that were not indicated during the booking process. The Expedia representative attempted to get a hold of someone at Fox Rental Car but was unsuccessful after multiple attempts. We were told to follow up in a few days, as Expedia attempted to get hold of them again.

On arrival to Phoenix, where we dropped off the vehicle and spoke to the representatives at Fox Rent A Car, who informed us that the Las Vegas branch imposed the drop off fee and they could not help us with it. The representative also stated that the drop fee was excessive and when I asked about the breakdown of the drop off fee, she informed me that I was charged a daily rate for the rental car within the amount estimated for the drop off fee in addition to the daily rental car rate. Nice!! She informed me to contact the customer service department in order to discuss a partial refund for being overcharged. The Phoenix representative stated that if I had rent this same car from Phoenix for a drop off in Las Vegas I would not have been charged this excessive amount. She even warned me that I should just call the customer service department instead of dealing with Las Vegas branch as they will give me the run around.

Well she was right about getting the run around but she was wrong about the customer service department, as they were the worst part of the experience. Not only was I overcharged with an excessive drop off fee which was more than twice the cost of the rental car, but I was also charged a $150 fee, which was supposedly being refunded to me, but which never happened. The customer service representatives were the worst I have ever dealt with. They were ignorant and refused to admit any wrong doing. The representative attempted to explain to me that I received a discounted rate for the drop off fee because I booked it with Expedia and that I should have been charged $200. So basically I should be happy with that discounted rate and I should basically shut up!!

After a few minutes of a pointless conversation, I requested to speak to her manager and she reluctantly transferred me to the “so called manager” who never answered. I was able to leave a message. I called back twice and one customer service representative hung up on me and the other transferred me to a nonfunctional number.

I called Expedia in my frustration and spoke to a customer service representative, who was also able to reach someone at Fox while I waited on the phone. The Expedia representative notified me that he discussed the hidden fees with Fox Rent A Car agents and stated that the $150 fee was stated on their contract and that it was not in line with the usual practices of other well known and reputable rental car companies such as Enterprise, Avis and Alamo. In fact, he was not aware of any other companies charging this fee and he was not able to receive a good answer for the reason for the fee. He informed me that he told them that this was inappropriate and the Fox representative assured him that I would be refunded this amount.

The Expedia representative was also alarmed at the fact that they had not processed my refund even though I was charged on 1/30/17 and it is now 2/6/17. He also informed me that I was not going to be refunded the full amount of $150 but instead $149.71 and he was not sure why. I subsequently contacted the Fox Rent A Car customer representative about this discrepancy because now I am pissed. Not only was I overcharged an excessive drop off fee, but I was charged a bogus $150 fee for which I don’t know what and they have not refunded my money and now I hear they are not even refunding the full amount. It's 29 cents but now it is the principle of it. I used a very harsh tone with the representative, but at this point, I didn’t care because I was dealing with crooks and they didn’t care so why should I?

I demanded a full refund including my 29 cents and I demanded to know the breakdown for the drop off fee and why it was so excessive. I informed the customer representative, that not only was Fox Rent A Car service a disgusting company but they were criminals who advertised cheap rate but overcharge in hidden fees. They were cold and rude on the phone and that they had no customer service expertise. I informed them that I will be taking the matter further as I will receive my refund and the matter of this drop off fee will not be dropped by me until I received a satisfactory response. I was told the manager who call me back.

About 2 hours later, someone name Samir called me back and stated that his “manager” asked him to call me back. WOW!!! So I have yet to hear from the manager about this matter. Samir then proceeded to try to explain the various fees. He literally said that the $150 fee was “JUST IN CASE MONEY” Say WHAT!! When I asked what does that mean, he said that they charge this fee just in case someone doesn’t return the car when expected they have this money just in case. JUST CASE YOU DECIDE TO RUN OFF WITH THEIR BUSTED KIA SPORTAGE!! These people are losers!! I said to him everyone else charges the necessary fees when that situation happens and not before. Basically Fox Rent A Car uses false advertising to get customers.

They are located away from the airport so that they have a captive audience, then they charge you multiple hidden fees, such as a bogus $150 fee, you know "JUST IN CASE" which they promise to refund and I have this in writing yet I am still waiting for my refund and they don't plan on a full refund. They will even try to take any amount they can get which includes 29 cents. And they charge excessive rate for drop fees and think that they are not accountable for their actions once you signed the contract. I scolded the representative on the phone and informed her that I am entitled to arbitration or a hearing in small claims court. We have rights as customers and we deserve more than this. I have called my credit card company to dispute the charges and to prevent Fox from charging anymore bogus fees to my card, as they have done to other customers.

I will also be notifying the Better Business Bureau as well as writing reviews on every travel and customer service website I can find. Fox Rent A Car is a scam and they are liars and thieves. They charge hidden fees like just in case money. JUST CASE YOU DECIDE to RUN OFF with their BUSTED KIA SPORTAGE!! These people are losers!! STAY away from FOX rental car!! GO with real professions like ENTERPRISE!! And Enterprise will pick you up and you don't have to take a ghetto shuttle to some ghetto off site location, where you will be ripped off by liars!!

Despite the fact that we reserved and fully paid for a minivan a week before our trip, when we arrived at the counter we had to argue with the company over the rate, and fight back to avoid add-ons (the counter person was quite angry that we would not agree to a larger car, extra insurance or prepaid gas). It was 10:15 p.m., there was no line, and we had a pre-paid reservation, but it still took 45 minutes to complete the transaction. They demanded a $123 deposit (which was never disclosed when we made our reservation through their website), telling us they would refund us $150 when we returned the car. We tried to get an explanation for this, but the answer was nonsensical.

When our paperwork was finally finished and the clerk finally found the keys (took him 10 minutes), we went out to our car (nearly 50,000 miles and quite banged up), only to find the "check engine" light was on and would not go out. When we asked about that, they said the mechanic would not return until 8pm the next night, so we could either take another car or live with the minivan. Since we were transporting our family of seven, and every other car rental place in the area was closed at this hour, we had no choice but to take a chance on the minivan.

We returned the car exactly on time, four days later with a half tank of gas per our rental agreement (it was rented to us with a half tank). We even washed the car before we returned it, having read reviews by prior customers who were charged fees for returning a dirty car. Several days later, we noticed a new charge on our credit card from Fox Rental Car for $46.97. Neither when we returned the car nor later were we ever notified by Fox of any additional charges owed, and we filed a dispute with our credit card company, who reversed the charge. Three weeks after returning the car, our $123 deposit still had not been returned, despite our calls to the corporate office.

When we finally got hold of someone in the office where we rented the car (no easy task, since they never answer the phone, or you get put on an automatic hold for 30 minutes and no one ever picks up), we were told the deposit would be kept since we returned the car two days late. This was absolutely false; fortunately, we had retained our check-in paperwork showing the date of return. After emailing it to the company, we were told the deposit would be returned. As of this writing, we are still waiting...

I am always up for a bargain (and this place was a whopping $260 cheaper than the next cheapest rental car company for our four-day rental). However, I would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER rent from this place again. The savings is not worth the risk that the car you rented will not be there, or will be unsafe to drive. Fox's online reservation system should tell you that you will have to leave a deposit (which you may not get back for weeks, if at all) and that you will have to dispute totally random and unsubstantiated charges. Stick with the named brands, unless you have the stomach to put up with this company's negligent (at best) and deceitful practices. I hope someone initiates a class action soon and puts this company out of business.

The Fort Lauderdale car rental office discarded my online reservation made through Foxrentacar.com with the confirmed price. They charged me a higher price and created a new reservation because I picked up the car at 6pm instead of 12pm. They lied telling me that car should be picked up within 3 hours. The online reservation terms show it should be held for 12 hours. Then they forced me to buy rental insurance and refused to take an option of signing a waiver. They told me that my insurance will not cover $1M liability that they require on their policy. I was able eventually to sign a waiver by having my son on the phone who explained to them my rights.

They also charged my credit card extra $150 on top of the rental price and did not tell me about that. I only discovered that on my credit card statement. I changed my reservation terms and billing department told me I am due a refund of $390, which I will get at the location when I return a car. I asked to send me an email confirmation so I have proof of amount of refund due in case the liars at the car rental office do not process the refund. The billing department told me they have no way to send this information over to me. I was able to get the printout of my billing status and refund due only by posting to their Facebook page and sharing this message to the open public.

At 1pm today I requested an extension of rental time and received a quote for $240 confirmed through email showing the new return date of 1/22/2017. At 3PM I decided to make an extension and submitted request online. This time the price for the same period was $427. I called the extension department to find out why this happened. Guess what. The agent told me that online price shown in the morning was incorrect. If I were to pay $240 today I would owe additional $187 at the time of drop-off. So, ignoring price confirmed by email is a regular practice for this company. First they ignored my original reservation and now I was about to be charged $427 instead of $240 only because they have my credit card and can charge whatever they want.

I told him where we would be traveling to and from for our whole vacation. The toll pass was $70 and he said we would go through a lot of tolls in the Orlando area so it would be worth getting the pass. We went through 3 and each toll was $1.25 a piece. When I called to complain to customer service, they told me they could remove it, but we would be responsible for paying whatever tolls we went through at $15 a piece. This was, by far, the worst retail experience I've ever had. It took the only two counter agents almost 2 hours to get me checked in and this was in the middle of the night. I arrived at the location at 1:20 am. I didn't leave the location until 3:15 am. At that, it only took me 10 minutes to get to my car and leave the lot. The entire time was waiting in line. This is beyond pathetic and no, they will never get my money again. This kind of wait time was unacceptable when they have giant signs bragging about 'unlimited miles of smiles' for their 'great' customer service. The counter agents didn't care but you could also tell that this location is horribly mismanaged. They should have had at least 3 more agents handling the check-in process.

I booked a rental via car booking.com. I explicitly ordered a Jeep Cherokee so I could use the standard 4-wheel drive. I ordered a book now ahead of time, thus putting full payment down. I go to pick up my SUV at the SFO rental place. They inform me that no Jeep Cherokee are available even though I explicitly ordered the car paying full price ahead of time. They then inform me that the available options are a Rav 4 or a Jeep Patriot, neither of which are 4 wheel drive. I ask why my reserved SUV is not available. The man helping me was very nice but he was unable to answer my question. Instead he tells me his manager says that if I want the car that I thought I ordered, I had to pay an upcharge of TWICE what I paid originally. I was basically extorted money for Fox's lack of car supply. Either they didn't have the car they promised me or they knowingly mislead me on their listing.

I ended up having to pay the money for a Dodge Durango (full size - way bigger than I needed) because of lack of other options. I am so angry and disappointed by the switcheroo Fox did and vow never to use this rental company again. I also intend to write multiple negative reviews and inform my work and acquaintances never to use this rental service under any circumstances. In short, prepaid for specific car, wasn't available, gave underqualified substitutes, forced ridiculous pay increase to get what was originally advertised. Please do better than screwing people over.

To say this was a bad experience is a vast understatement. I can't give it a low enough score. The car was filthy and after we drove it less than 40 miles my husband noticed air going out of the front passenger tire. We looked in the trunk for a spare and there was nothing but styrofoam. We called the Roadside number and never got anyone to pick up. While my husband was on hold for roadside I was on hold for Customer Service. Both of us waited for over 45 minutes. Once customer service picked up he said "you can tell your husband to hang up. I also answer the phone for roadside and there's no one there."

He said he set up a tow truck to bring us a new car the next day and that they would call us first thing at 7 am to say they were on their way. He said he would credit us back the fee for roadside assistance and a day of use since we hadn't been able to use the car. The next morning at 7 am I waited for a call. By 8 am I had been on hold for over 45 minutes with customer service who said no one had set anything up and no one was bringing us another car. He said to call Roadside which of course we were also on hold for.

Once roadside finally answer (an hour later) they said they did show us calling the previous evening and didn't know they were supposed to bring out a new car. They didn't know what the big deal was. When I asked why there was no spare tire in the car the rep said they buy the cheapest cars and they don't come with spares. This isn't an explanation to me but rather a confession of guilt on their part of negligence. The rep said they would send out a new car with a towing company, gave us the name of the towing company and said that company would contact us when they were on their way. The towing company never called. I couldn't find a phone number for the company and I called AAA to verify the towing company, they said there was no such company.

About an hour and a half later a guy calls my cell and says he's outside our hotel with our car. He unloads the car. dumps the "new rental agreement' on the seat and leaves. We open the doors and this car is filthy. I mean filthy, I don't even want to sit on the seats dirty and trash everywhere, it was disgusting. At this point its way past 10 and we are late for our the party we flew in from Alaska to attend.

When I called them today (another long hold) to review our bill and discuss the service and condition of the car the 'customer service' agent was horrible. Said it wasn't her problem and we could contact 'someone' thru their website. She said she would refund us for the road side assistance, which is 10.00. That was already supposed to be reimbursed after the first phone call.

I cannot understand how with all these complaints there isn't a class action lawsuit going. This company needs to be put out of business. We need to do something before someone gets really hurt by them. Thank goodness my husband and I didn't get the flat on the freeway and we're stuck there for hours! These cars are so unsafe and this company is ripping everyone off. Why are we standing for this??? Do not rent from them! Even when they say they will do something correct they don't and they attack your credit card! They charge you for things you didn't agree on and getting them to refund isn't happening. I know they advertise through the third party sites like, Orbitz or whatever but don't fall for their scams.

Beware when renting with Fox Rent A Car in Phoenix. Their agent Tommy acted fraudulently on a rental I did in December 2016. I told him no insurance and I would bring back full of gas. Being in a hurry, I quickly initialed the lines and proceeded to pick up the car. When I got in the car, the fuel gauge was not on full. I took a picture and went back to the counter where they noted it and said bring back at the same level. When I brought back the car I had to hurry to get to my gate, so I just dropped it off. Shortly I received an email with my invoice and I noted that I had been charged a $37.00 fee for fueling. I called the rental counter and was told that I had agreed to bring it back and have them fuel the car. Not so.

After getting nowhere with the counter person, I asked to talk with a supervisor. When I finally got one - her name was Ms **. She could have cared less that they had a person working the counter that was involved in fraudulent activity. She said she would forward my complaint to their customer service department. Unfortunately, it was a customer no-service department as I never heard from them. I am a frequent renter, and will never use Fox again.

When I got there, I was threatened and bullied into purchasing an additional $387 in insurance and was told that the insurance I had already purchased was no good in Mexico. I asked what if I didn't buy the additional policy and I was told if anything happened to the car, I would be detained and not allowed to leave the country until I paid $25,000 in cash. And if I could not pay that, I would be arrested and put into a Mexican jail. I essentially had no choice and paid the extra money. We drove to the hotel and parked the car and never touched it again for fear something would happen. Well when we were about to leave, the car would not start.

We called Fox at 11 a.m. and they said they could not come and help us until 4 or 5 pm. When I told them we would miss our flights, I again was told that if I left the car at the hotel for them to pick up, I would be abandoning the car and would be responsible to pay for the car in full. The hotel attempted to speak with them and FOX customer service hung up on the manager of the Riu Palace. It was a nightmare and honestly, my treatment was definitely illegal. I plan on pursuing this situation and I have several witnesses to how I was threatened and treated and coerced to paying a huge amount of money for a car I had for only 4 days. BTW the checkout process to get this car was over 2 full hours.

Took the car back and told the attendant "I'm an engineer with experience designing vehicle suspensions and I'm telling you there's something wrong with this car." The attendant said he'd have it looked after. Turns out I left something in the car and went back to the location about an hour after dropping it off. They had rerented the car, obvious mechanical problems and all, and it was gone (along with the item I left in the car, which they didn't find). I got a call a few days later from a Fox location several hundred miles away, saying that they'd found the item I left in the car, so I know it was there when the car was rerented. We load up the first van with our 8 bags, only to find out the tire pressure light is on. They say it's fine and we just need to fill up the tire, but we are driving down to key West, and would rather have a car that has no dash warning lights on... Go figure. We unload all our stuff and reload into another white van and start to drive out, only for them to stop us on the way out and say we can't use this van... He said everything was ok, and he came by and he hit the bumper to go back to place. Obviously this is a joke and this car should have been fixed. I take care of my rental cars. This car had significant damage and if the proper damage fees were collected by other renters this car should have been fixed. I went driving this car for around 800-900 miles and guess what the front bumper was noisy. I can tell Fox are a bunch of idiots because they can't take care of their cars. If this car was not a Toyota it would have fallen apart.

Pre-paid 94.04 for week rental from Fox at Miami airport. Final bill was for 195.67! That wasn't the worst part. I found out when I got to the airport that Fox was off-airport. Never would have rented an off-airport car if I had known. I'm a single female and the area was terrible. Rep told me that I should purchase the toll package before leaving which was 62.93. If I waited until I returned the car it would be over 100.00? I told him twice that I was going to Key Colony and Key West. Tolls for Key Colony or Key West are at most 20.00 RT. I found this out once I left the airport! The car was scheduled to be returned by 8AM. I left Key Colony at 4:30 AM in order to get it back on time and make my flight. I did not have GPS so I had pulled directions from Map Quest. Could not find the return location.

Called the TF# for Fox and they gave me direct numbers to the location. No one answered the phone. I made at least 30 attempts. The Customer Service# said they could not help since they weren't at the location. I ended up having to get out of my car in a very un-safe area to ask a local at a collision body shop where the location was. He said that the address on the contract was incorrect but was able to get me in the area and I figured out how to get there. He said that the reason he was familiar with the location was because it happens all the time!

Once I got there I had 15 minutes to get to the airport and make my flight which was impossible. I missed my flight and had to stand in line for over 2 1/2 hours to re-book. My original flight was at 935 and I had to wait for a 330 flight. A totally wasted day! I had to call customer service because it looked as if I was billed for the 94.04 plus an additional 251.63. The credit wasn't shown at the same time of the charge. Anyway, wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. They have an issue with honesty and are not concerned about your safety or convenience! The worst - on top of 1100 lira paid, they kept my 500 lira deposit on the card. I understand that you might not have the car I reserved but I cannot understand that in the case you do not have a similar one, you do not offer an upgrade without me having to ask. I do not get how you enforce me to accept a downgrade. Before sharing bay very bad experience on the social networks I would like to hear from you and see what you can do. I rent cars all of the time and usually book it as I'm deplaning and going to the rental car area - no other company has had this problem. I was running to a meeting for work and needed to leave right away and then they charged me FOUR times as much as what I booked it at on Orbitz. When I asked why, she gave me a list of reasons for extra fees I have never heard of before and she of course said she was giving me a "discount" since I was with a nonprofit. 4x as much! Whoa! It ended up being more than if I went through Avis, my usual go-to company.

I felt terrible for the young man at the counter next to me. He was clearly on a strict budget, in college. He was under the impression he had prepaid everything for the car and showed the guy and even me the receipt showing that. They told him of all of these extra fees and he just didn't have the money at all. His girlfriend said she would have to put it on her card and use the money intended for her school books... so sad! They are running a scam!!

It was beyond frustrating after this experience to go down to the get the car - the lady upstairs told us keys were in the car and we could go. Keys weren't in the car and apparently they never are. Their employees need to know what's going on. After walking all over, we found the counter downstairs and got it straightened out. Everything just took a long time. The car was just fine though once we were on our way and thankfully I had no issues returning it. Will never use Fox again.

I selected Fox Rental through Orbitz and had to change my pickup and drop off time. The website does not have a phone number and had to go through Orbitz. I was on hold for over 45 minutes and gave up. It took a total of 1.5 hours to get them to make this simple change. When we arrived at the LAX airport, the shuttle service was slim pickings. There were other shuttles that came by at least two times before Fox finally came around. It took about 30 minutes to wait for the shuttle and then about 15 minutes to get to the location.

We arrived about 10:30 p.m. and there was a huge line of about 50 people and only 3 employees. We had to wait in line for over an hour only to find that they didn't have the SUV I had reserved and we had to pick out a car. It was tough to get 4 people and all of our luggage into a car. The car was okay, but getting it back was another ordeal because we had to get in line again to get our refund from SUV to car charge. We were also charged a $150 deposit that we were not told previously about.

All in all, we did not think that a cheap rate was worth all of the hassle and the tremendous lines. They knew in advance how many people had rented vehicles that night and should have had more employees on hand to handle such a large crowd. Also, if you reserve a certain kind of vehicle, it should be there to pick up. We were able to get our refund though and they also agreed to put on the paperwork as we left initially that the car tank was not full.

I wish I had seen this site before I used Fox Rent A Car. It has been the biggest mistake and worst transaction I've had in as long as I can remember. I say this without exaggeration and I agree about one of the other reviewers here. Some legal action should be taken against this company on behalf of we, the consumers.

I booked an SUV (Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar) on 10/13/16 via Orbitz for a reservation for Thanksgiving 11/23-11/27. My arrival was 11:00pm on 11/23 and I set my pick-up time accordingly well in advance. The poor experience started while waiting for the shuttle. About 30 minutes passed before the Fox shuttle arrived. The competitors all had at least two shuttles come in that same time. We, about 15-20 of us, finally arrive at the rental area and get in line. I am called about 15 minutes later and the young girl starts the process. Starts off not needing my confirmation number via Orbitz but she can't find my name or reservation (not good). Finally finds my name and then walks off for 5+ minutes without telling me why. Comes back, types around and walks away again. Upon return I ask her what's up and she says she has to see what cars are left. Uh oh... I thought I had reserved a car one month ago.

Now the announcement: "is anyone here looking to get an SUV?" Almost everyone raised their hands. Then I are told, "we overbooked today and all the SUV's are rented. We have compacts." I said that won't do and then started to get frustrated since I had a reservation and be girl didn't seem to understand why I was upset they didn't have the car. She then became incredulous and said, "no matter how many times you ask or question us an SUV isn't going to just magically appear." I asked for her manager... to which she started at me. I had to ask three times before an even nastier person emerged from their office.

Now the fun begins with the so-called management. Jaylin ** (it took me multiple times to get her name as she refused to give me last name or email and her co-workers also didn't know her last name... Apparently they thought that was an ok answer) comes up and asks, "what's the problem sir?" Glad to know they communicate because what did they think my issue was? I said "I made a reservation, you guys don't have my car and this is unacceptable." She began to explain how for "7 hours today" she's been dealing with upset people because they didn't have enough cars. I looked at her and said, "Your job is to rent cars. If you can't fulfill the rental reservations for your clients of course they will be upset. How is that my fault? You didn't prepare well for the thanksgiving volume and I am the one who has to suffer (it is now almost 12:30am MST) as a result of your incompetence."

Cue the fireworks. This woman Jaylin, with her poorly dyed red hair, was not into solutions or hearing logic. She told me I was being difficult and she didn't have to deal with this and basically told me go elsewhere to rent a car. Are you kidding me? Go elsewhere? That's Fox Rent A Car's response to screwing up a reservation and wasting two hours of someone's time? I was gobsmacked by this.

Long story short after many attempts to try to get them just to help me out I was then handed a piece of paper that is called an Off Sell Letter. The service Rep just gives to me and says, "OK here you go. You can go now." I look at her and say, "I don't know what this is, you guys don't communicate nor explain anything clearly or thoroughly. I've no idea what's going or where am I getting my car." That's when she told me I had to go to ANOTHER rent a car company at the airport. Wtf? After all this screw up, the callously indifferent and incredulous service Rep (who refused to give me her name... But I think it's Martha or Meredith... She is young, has a nose ring and straight light brown hair), and then the manager who was the most ridiculous and illogical person I have met in a while, the outcome is to tell me to go pound sand and to go to a competitor to find a car at 1am on Thanksgiving.

I go get a new car at a rental place, ending up with a Kia Sorento as that was the closest thing to what I had reserved. My charged I booked with Fox via Orbitz was $473... Now my rental car is $1,335 (including a $200 deposit). So not only did Fox treat me like dirt I have to then spend $1,000 more than I had planned due to their incompetence and negligence. Luckily I have the funds but what if I didn't? How would they feel if it was they that was stranded on Thanksgiving day because someone messed up their reservation?

Apparently now I have to contact someone at Fox within 24 hours of this incident to "qualify" for a reimbursement of cost difference. Today is thanksgiving. This heartless and ridiculous company should fail and I hope this review steers future business away. NEVER USE FOX RENT A CAR... It's a complete scam and I will be reporting them to the BBB, local news, the consumer protection services as well as local state officials.

Later we learned that the toll roads are from $1.05 to $1.50.

When we drove back to return the car the huge surprise was waiting for us! The road to go there (just few meters from their location) was close down! Not GPS, not even iPhone wouldn't help us to get to this terrible location. We even stop the police to ask for help. Police tried, but couldn't help us either! We spent more than 2 hours to try different ways to get to their location! We called them, waited for 45 minute for them to pick up the phone! Finally, we found another phone number and called them again and lady pick up the call. She finally help us to get to this location.

We were so stressed out! Until now we are shaking to even think about it! We almost missed our plane! Thank God we had enough time before the plane! They knew the road was closed, but didn't even bother to notify their clients! And they are not cheap! You expect one price, but when you come they calculate and add some charges and you will end up to pay like for limo! Be careful with this company! This is the worst company I ever seen! If I can sued them I will! I'm so stressed!!!

I and my wife, a travel writer for a major magazine, rented a car with Fox from San Francisco Airport for 14 days. Due to an emergency, we have to change our plans and return the car early. We're amazed to discover they charge $39.98/day for an early return -- more for the return than the daily rate. We've never had that happen with any other major car rental agency over decades of rentals. We would like to hear from others who have had similar experiences.

US $3,000.00 as deposit if I refuse to take insurance, then charge me whatever amount and disregard what was agree on, since you already had my money. I could had bought the car and keep it for my next trip. I'm definitely not using FOX. Let's see what the experience with the next one is. This is a very good way to keep customer from your competition. I give you that one. Then you think you can put a claim on it, talk to Destiny as an customer service rep and she says that I have to go back to that location to talk to manager. Mine was an overnight flight landing at 2 am. I called to make sure everything was OK. The person I spoke to said it was a 24-hr location and that the shuttle bus was going to be there.

As they did, problem was there were two groups. We didn't fit in the "Bus", took us first supposedly to their location and left us in the middle of the road with our luggage because he had to go get the other group before somebody takes them from him. Turns out, our driver does everything there. He is the one who is suppose to hand us the vehicle. When he comes back with the other group he explains all the scam to us, since we had no other choice but to take it. We did. Oh what a miracle. They didn't have connection to go through the payment and kept my credit card info to try later on manually. The car was filthy inside and out, like someone just left it there and without gas at 2 am, every gas station around closed.

This place is a big scam. If you decline coverages and make sure they're not there, you'll be ok. I had a nice rep helping me out and she was good. The problems started when I began extending my rental online. I was told there was a 20/day extra fee for this, however, online it only shows ONE fee. This is to trick or deceive customers. I called and spoke to many people and even online, where the people said that this is all I have to pay - no extra fees. I then called days ago to talk to a rude rep on the phone named Frank, who told me I owed over 300 dollars in extension fees. I said "how is that possible if everyone I talked to told me that there were no fees." I'm very about doing my research and talking to people.

This was terrible - the website is deceptive and people get screwed over. I spoke to billing who took off half the extension fees, but they didn't give me back my security deposit. The girl who helped me at the location told me that I can return my car 2-3 hours later and it's ok, since I had been renting for weeks and she said the manager said that's ok in general. I went to return my car, and the short haired female at the Orlando location who is rude as heck, told me I owed a certain amount. I returned the car 2 hours later b/c the other girl has been telling me it was ok for weeks. Again all conflicting information and lies.

The short haired female at the Orlando location is really nasty and even refused to rent me a car once I know because it was over a week long and there was nothing added. She just wants to be a jerk and screw people over. The other girl did it with no problem. So Fox Rent A Car took 150.00 from me and more because of their error on the website and their lies. It's not only a shady company but their reps are liars, and everyone tells you different and conflicting information. The prices can be ok but don't extend the rental online.

I thought FOX was a bargain at the lower rental rates, so I booked a car from the WA Airport in July 2015. The service desk attendant coached me into an upgrade for a very reasonable fee - $12 more per day (which was a lie---- as upon return, I was charged almost 3 times what was quoted to me at the rental desk). I also required customer services on the road as the brand new vehicle's oil light came on. It took more than 15 calls over two and a half days for anyone to call me back!!! Additionally, the front desk reported that the fuel charge would be "around $4 a gallon if they had to fill the tank upon return if gas was needed"; and I agreed since it was only about 50 cents more a gallon than the going airport gas station rate at the time and I knew that I may be pressured for time upon return.

I returned the car with a little over 3/4 of a tank of gas. When I got home I noticed that FOX charged me $5.99 a gallon! And if you think that is misleading of FOX to do, the resulting gas charge to me was over $95.00 for less than a quarter of a tank! Do they think I cannot do simple math as well? Even at 5.99 per gallon, that is almost 16 gallons of gas to fit into one quarter of a tank! What car gas tank do you know of that holds 64 gallons of gas? I disputed the charge but they refused to provide me with a gas receipt.

I also refused to initially purchased LDW2 (loss damage waiver insurance at $19.99 per day) because my own insurance company covers me in a rental car. They still charged me for it, pointing to my initials. I told them I was told to sign for gas in the space where the rental agent pointed on the form, not for loss damage insurance. They were extremely rude and practically called me an idiot "for not looking where I initialed".

I continued to dispute their claims, despite having paid them a huge deposit (more than three times the rental rate) and they refused to cooperate, almost never answering the phone or being put on hold for over 1.5 hours each and every time I called, and then when they did answer, I got transferred to another department and I was disconnected several times! It happened so often, it's as if it was planned that way. They also refused to provide adequate documentation for the gas charges and then sent me to a collection agency!!! FOX WAS PROVEN TO BE WRONG (and they owe me money) but they threatened my excellent credit in the meantime and it took me over a year to resolve.

FOX has the worst customer service in the history of mankind and their agents are deceitful and misleading in their business practices, as well as unnecessarily rude and indignant. You will be hit for excess fees, beyond which they minimally, fraudulently, or never disclose. NEVER RENT FROM FOX!!!! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND HERTZ RENTAL CARS INSTEAD.

I read all these reviews while we were waiting in line for an hour and a half at the Fox Rental car in LAX Fri. Oct. 21 - 24, 2016. Check, most common first complaint came true. Now I'm getting really worried. I was joking about how bad the reviews were while I was in line with the rest of the unhappy customers. People were beginning to argue because there is no rhyme or reason to the lines. Try going all the way to the right. I think the person checking us out heard me and I was worried about retaliation. But she was very nice, didn't try to up-sell me or anything.

Gave me the choice of insurance levels (I took the lowest one), didn't push me. Though she did say that I shouldn't take the convertible Mustang because there was a recall on the seat belts malfunctioning. Funny, didn't see that on the news. But she gave us a convertible Camero, so we were happy. I thought that the experience was going to change. But aside from waiting another 20 minutes to get out of the garage it was fine. The car worked great no problems. I paid for the empty tank thing and returned the car on fumes. I thought I had done a perfect job! Until the charge on my card showed up.

They charged me the full amount of the deposit. The receipt I received from the checkout guy showed a $140 discount, which would have given me the expected amount. I guess they figure no one looks. But after reading the reviews you better expect me to look for the charge. Anyway, typical story so far, I have spent a half hour on hold without so much as a check in. Hang up try again. No answer. So I disputed the charge on my credit card. I bet this takes months to untangle, but I'm hopeful I meet another employee as nice as the front desk girl who checked us in the first time. Whatever the difference in price probably isn't with the hassle.

I would love to bring a class action suit against this company. This company should be put out of business! First off, it's a game of bait and switch. They make you stand in line for hours and then say you are late and they gave your car away. I went from a challenger to a Jetta, with scratches all over it, no gas, inside was nasty dirty interior. They also charged my credit card 200 more. I have never had a rental company treat me like this. It's something out of a third world country. I want this company gone!! The car it has damage from previous accidents. We wanted to extend the rental for two days and even if we called way ahead they didn't want to give us the same rate we were paying. They said we will have to come back to airport and rent the car again that they will not help you over the phone. Last, the shuttle don't take you back to the airport they leave you at the bus stop. To begin; the car was not as agreed upon at time of rental, secondly, the car we did receive was dirty inside and out. We rented the car at Miami International and their office is in a back alley of sorts (not well lit, etc.). The biggest complaint however, is the letter I just received explaining that I had $2.80 in unpaid tolls and $60.00 in administrative fees. What it amounts to, in my opinion, is another tax on the visitor to their state. I will not spend any more money in FL.

They try to get you to upgrade, they have hidden fees, they even tell you if you don't buy their extra insurance you would have to pay a daily rental rate if the car is damaged and it "ends up going to trial"!! Seriously!?! Shame on us for not doing all our homework. NEVER AGAIN!! DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY!!! The total was not $319... Rented three times in 2016 from Fox LAX, and all three time they were the cheapest according to Expedia. The saying "you get what you pay for" applies. They are the low service/high volume provider. The crowds there speak to this pricing/service model. Their cars are a little older and dirtier (our last car had 3 areas of body damage, with almost 60,000, but we got a great price as well). Be prepared to wait for the shuttle bus as well. Advice: Fine if you want low price, but ensure you have your confirmed reservation and price IN HAND, and obtain the body damage slip upon check-out, eg, everything in writing and low expectations, but lowest price as well...

I recently had a horrible experience with Fox Rent A Car. On July 29, 2016, I made and received confirmation for a rental vehicle through Southwest Airlines for 13 days. I was scheduled to pick up my vehicle in Oakland, California, on September 21, 2016 at 2:30 pm. On September 21, 2016, I flew into San Diego, California from San Antonio, Texas, on Southwest Airlines; plane landed at 10:45 am. My original flight into Oakland was scheduled to depart from San Diego at 11:35 am and arrive in Oakland at 1:05 pm.

The scheduled Southwest Airlines plane was sitting at the gate having mechanical problems. The maintenance people on the ground attempted to fix the plane because Southwest Airlines had no replacement plane for the numerous of people expecting to fly into Oakland. After an hour delay, I tried to contact the Oakland Fox Rent A Car office frantically over a 2-hour period via Toll Free (800) 225-4369, and local (855) 849-4206 numbers. I was just kept being on hold and getting disconnected, which started the waiting time all over again. I wanted to talk to someone in customer service to tell them my flight was being delayed and to change my car rentals pick-up time. I never did get to talk to anyone in the customer service department. Next, I went online and found a Live Chat with a Fox Rent A Car representative. I made contact with a representative and told her I wanted to keep my car reservation.

I explained to her that my flight was being delayed and I would not be able to make my 2:30 pm pick-up time in Oakland. I asked her to modify my pick-up time to a later time. After giving the customer service representative my confirmation number to her, I was abruptly told I needed to contact Southwest Airlines to have my pick-up time modified because the car reservation was made through them. I contacted Southwest Airlines and their customer service representative was surprised to hear that the Fox Rent A Car representative told me to contact them. They suggested my car rental reservation should be honored due to the plane's mechanical problems that was scheduled to fly into Oakland.

The plane was delayed twice and eventually canceled due to mechanical failures. To make matters worse, the next two Southwest Airlines flights going into Oakland were completely full. I was placed on Southwest Airlines Flight, which took off at 8:20 pm and didn't arrive in Oakland until 9:50 pm. I spent over 7 hours stuck in the San Diego Airport.

When I did make it to the Oakland Fox Rent A Car's Rental Center, I was told my car reservation was canceled. I explained to the representative behind the counter about why I was late picking up my rental car. It's after 10 pm and I have my luggage and no car to drive. The Fox Rent A Car representative suggested my reservation should be granted due to no fault of my own; however, she needed to call her manager first. After talking to her manager, I was told I would have to have a new reservation and pay an additional $200 to get a rental car. I found this to be outrageous and refused to pay the suggested new rate.

I went to another rental car company and was told I got screwed and that they hold car reservations for 24-hours. I had to pay $145 extra because the Fox Rent A Car company refused to honor my previous car rental agreement. I don't understand why my car reservation was even canceled before the end of day. The Oakland Fox Rent A Car Center business hours are from 5 am to 11:30 pm. The Customer Service from Fox Rent A Car was the worse experience I have ever had. I wrote a complaint letter to their corporate headquarters in Los Angeles and will never try to rent from them again.

I had rented a Fox car in San Francisco and was satisfied so when I had to go to Colorado I tried other companies but no less expensive cars were available. Fox indicated that they had nothing that was less than $48.00 per day. I reserved an Equinox or similar. When I got to Colorado I had to wait more than 1/2 hour for the bus along with 8 other people. We finally arrived at Fox to find that another 10-12 people were in line. After waiting 1 hour 15 min. I finally made it to the front of the line. There were 3 people working the counter. When I got to the front, the one girl left the counter. It was finally my turn and I was told that the Equinox was not available and I could either have an Explorer or Dodge Durango, but the Durango was new and the Explorers were several years old. Of course I took the newer car.

Now instead of $48.00 it was $54.00. In the 4 days I had the car, I had to add air to one tire every day at a cost of $1.50 each time. The car was so high, I am 5'6", that I had a hard time getting into the car and had to slide out like a child sliding out of a highchair. Returning the car was a nightmare as Fox is not where the rest of the cars are. It took me half an hour to find the building. All in all, it was a terrible experience and the last time I will rent from Fox.
