We flew into Fort Lauderdale on 3/8/19 and arranged a rental car through Fox Rental. We got our vehicle and had arranged with Fox to drop off in Miami where we were going on a cruise. Everything went well until the time to drop off the vehicle 3/9/19. The address we were given in Miami for the return did not exist and after searching 2 hrs for the location had to make a decision on what to do. I was forced to return to our hotel and leave the car parked for the 7 day cruise and extending my reservation an additional week (we only wanted a one day rental) for a ridiculous price.
Attempting to contact Fox Rental was impossible. Only got put on hold and eventually hangs up after long delay. Same thing occurred contacting the corporate office. When we returned from the cruise we were charged over $150 for parking. Drove back to Fort Lauderdale to return the vehicle which went smoothly. If you read this review, it should be clear that this rental company is a total sham and if you are smart stay away from this company as far as you can.

I reserved a Jeep Wrangler at Fox Tampa through AARP travel (Expedia). Had never heard of Fox before, but their prices seemed very competitive. Arrived at the appointed time for pickup to find a really long line at the counter. I waited over two hours to get to an agent. Was told that my reserved Wrangler was not available and was given a Mustang (no other options were offered). I was then informed that they were dunning my credit card a 150.00 deposit. The car was tiny and beat. It had 38k miles on it and dents and scratches everywhere. I informed the clerk that there were white paint spatters on it, to which she replied "we don't care about that." I returned the car on time with a full tank of gas. Just reviewed my credit card statement and saw that they only credited 97 of the 150 deposit back to my card. No explanation. Avoid this place like the plague.

Arrived at SFO airport at 11 PM to pick up our car, which we did have reservation. Only one Fox employee working and he showed zero urgency. There were 12+ customers in line. After 30 min, we went to another rental company and quickly and professionally rented a car. I do not recommend anyone to do business with Fox, nor will I.

Rented a van three months in advance only to find out there was nothing available for me after waiting in line for two hours. Had to rent from another company. Avoid at all cost. Apparently it’s first come first serve reservation mean nothing. They said it has been really busy the last couple days so no cars left. Never again.

I was one of the thousands who ignore the countless negative reviews of Fox Car Rental and I paid for it. Had a problem with the car, called Fox roadside assistance, was given an hour window for service, and guess how long it took? NEVER - after six hours of waiting I called an Uber and retrieved the car the next day, paying for a private tow.

I wouldn't give this company a star unless it was forced to submit this review. I have had the worst experience with this rental company. I paid prepaid for the van I rented. When I arrived to pick up the van, I was told that there would be a good chance they didn't have the van regardless of reserving the vehicle weeks prior to our trip. The rep explained that reserving the vehicle never confirms that we will get it. Anyways, the rep overcharged us and we spent an hour at her computer while she tried to understand the charges. Mind you, it was 10:00 PM and we had two crabby toddlers with us. We continued to ask the rep what the charges were for and she became confrontational and said, "just trust me, we will figure this out and refund you." We didn't understand why were were triple charged over what we prepaid prior to arrival.
Eventually, the rep asked for another reps help and they couldn't revers the charges so we were told that we would receive a call the following day to explain the refund. We never got a call. We got the last van on the lot and had paid for a full tank. The tank was not full. The rep that showed up to the car said we should take a picture and send it in to gain a refund. So we did. Turns out that the moment we drove away, regardless of the picture and the recommendation by the rep, a refund was not to be given. We kept the van for a week and returned it on the agreed upon date. When we returned it, the office was not open yet so we couldn't check up on the refund promised with a rep face to face.
When we returned home from our trip, I called Fox Rent A Car to ask about our refund. I was told to contact the billing department because the care rep didn't see the charges I was talking about even though I had the receipt and paperwork in front of me. Simply, she wouldn't help me. I called the billing department and the rep argued that they did provide a refund even though by that time, I had been double billed by the company totaling close to $1,000 in extra charges over what I prepaid. I also asked what the charges were for and I was told that it was for a second driver, which I was the only driver. After 30 minutes of getting nowhere, I was hung up on.
I called back and the rep told me that the charges were for additional insurance, not a second driver, which I did not agree to. We had insurance through our own company and we paid for standard insurance when we prepaid. The rep didn't care and said that he could provide a credit, but not a refund. I told him that hell will freeze over before I use this company again. The rep argued that they did not double bill us regardless of the proof I had. Then the rep got quiet and hung up the phone. So, I continued to call back and continued to get hung up on. I tried using the online chat to get my refund and the rep will say hello, but never reply thereafter. This has been the worst experience I have had renting a car, and the most expensive. Two weeks later, I am still struggling to get assistance from this company.

I rented through Priceline, and the best deal was Fox. NEVER Again. I flew into Denver Saturday for an afternoon Avalanche hockey game. I left plenty of time for picking up the car and getting to the game. Upon arrival, the wait was approx 20 min to get to the counter. Not quick, but I understand they were busy. It took the guy another 20 minutes just to process me for a reservation that was already in their system. So I am upset at this point, but the fun had not even begun. He told me it would be, you guessed it, another 20 minutes until they would bring my car up to the front. Are you kidding me?
Now, wait for it, 40 MINUTES LATER I'm throwing a fit, along with many others, because I still did not have my car. Never again. Missed pre-game and 1/3 of the first period. The ONLY bright spot about my experience was when I returned the car at 4:30 AM, there was a guy with a big smile on his face waiting for me. SUPER nice guy, thanked me, told me to have a great day, and pointed to the shuttle. (Which had filthy seats, and wrappers and trash on the floors. AT 4:30 AM???)

I had to give at least 1 star to leave a review. I would rather have given none. I rented a car from Fox Rent A Car in the Chicago area on December 12th, 2018. I was asked if I needed to pre-pay any toll road use. I made it clear that I was not familiar with the toll road system around Chicago and asked if there were toll booths along the way. I received some vague response that led me to believe that it would be clear if I was on a toll road. I specifically asked if there would be places where I could pay along the road with cash. The answer was not clear, but led me to conclude that there would be.
It turned out that there were NO toll booths on the roads. It is all done with cameras. I went online to check if I had been on a toll road and concluded that I had not, based on the route I had taken. When I turned in the car I again asked about this and got no clear answer. Today, March 7th, 2019, nearly three months after the rental date I received a bill for $46.30 for the unpaid tolls plus an "administrative fee." The total toll amounted to $1.30. Two 40 cent tolls and a 50 cent toll, plus three $15.00 "administrative fee" charges for each unpaid toll.
Did this happen because the employees don't have the answers to such questions regarding the toll road system? Do they not have this information because Fox Car Rental can't be bothered to train them to give informative answers. Does Fox Car Rental instruct their employees to give vague non-informative answers to such questions? I have no idea. I do know, however, that Fox Rent A Car has gotten an extra $45.00 out of me due to a lack of clear information provided to me when I requested it. That more or less doubles the cost of that one-day rental for. This $45.00 "administrative fee" is absolutely the last money Fox Car Rental will ever see from me.

Do yourself a favor, and read ALL the reviews here before renting from this company. They are 95% consistent in having a negative experience. I have rented from Fox many times, and I signed up for their Rewards program. I accumulated enough points to get a rewards certificate by a credit back to my card. I have squabbled and squabbled and squabbled with the rep from this company who sends me in circles by email never giving me the credit on my card playing games even though I'm entitled to it and never issuing it to me. I have spent THOUSANDS in rentals, and this is how you're treated, leading people on and not giving them the rewards they rightfully earned.
Their rates may be low, but you will pay the price with how you're treated like dirt. They have overcharged me on taxes time and again, and how they're still in business is a mystery to me. They should be shut down by the state of California for unethical business practices and overcharging. The wait times in line are outrageous, and they never have enough counter personnel. If you dare say something to them, they give you dirty looks and then look for ways to block you from renting in retaliation. The hold times on their customer service phone line tend to be for an hour which is unacceptable also. Stay away at all costs.

The wait at the airport to get my car was at least an hour. They need to hire more people at the airport to assist customers in picking up their cars. The car itself was fine. The price was also good. Getting to bed an hour later (2 am) was not worth the, at most, $30 we saved.

Fox advertises extremely low bargain rates but NOBODY ever walks out of the dealership paying what they thought they would. Fast-talking salespeople you can hardly understand talking you through various deceptive and confusing questions and terminology which lead you to pay far more than you wanted to. They actually make you sign something that says "My signature here agrees to all terms in this contract even though I will not find out what it costs till the end of the process". What kind of BS is that?
This is a scummy ripoff scam posing as a legitimate business. I paid four times the advertised rate by the time they were through with me and you'll likely do the same. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. You will pay less money at a respectable company that advertises a higher price than from these scumbags advertising prices they have no intention of honoring. Honestly words can not adequately describe the loathing these people inspire in me. It's a sad and disappointing comment on human nature that a business like this exists in the first place.

I booked a car with Fox in Miami through Orbitz. Shuttled from airport to crappy little place where English is second language for all employees. Waited in line for 40 minutes. Finally got car and headed to Ft. Myers. About two miles along on Hwy 75 I had a blowout on front passenger side tire. Made it to left median on four lanes of fast traffic and called Fox roadside. On hold for 16 minutes (while recording assured me that Fox strived for the best customer service) before sent to voicemail. I finally risked my life to change tire. They called back in an hour and 45 minutes!

I booked a car online for my visit in Arizona. During my booking I didn't realized, that I selected the wrong month. When I arrived and the guy at the counter told me I booked the wrong month, I feared I had to pay a higher price. But he managed to get me the same deal even the date was completely wrong (4 months in the past). The deal was very good, because in the glove compartment of the car was a receipt of a previous renter with a higher price. The return was without any problem and I received my deposit 2-3 days later.

I went through Expedia to rent a Dodge Challenger through Fox Rent a Car while we were on vacation in Delray, Florida. Fox Rent a Car was near the Fort Lauderdale airport. Expedia gave me a price of $89.10 a day. When I arrived at Fox, I was told that the Challenger had undercarriage damage and had 80k miles and the car was not available. I was told that they could provide a Mustang convertible and when asked how much this would be, I was told that the typical cost is $150 a day but they could do it for $50 a day. Since this was cheaper, I went with the Mustang.
On the form it states a minimum of 4 days at $89.10 per day not to exceed $356.52. When the car was returned I was told that the cost was $760. When told that there was a mistake, I was told by the manager that I upgraded to the Mustang and that's the reason for the higher cost. When the manager was informed that the reason that I went with the Mustang was because Fox Rent a Car could not provide me with a Challenger he said that he could meet me halfway. When he was told that was not acceptable he said that's all he could do. By the way his halfway was to knock $100 off and the cost would be $660. Since Fox Rent a Car was unwilling to fix my issue, I have contacted my credit card company disputing the total cost. I WILL never rent another car from Fox Rent a Car. Pay the extra cost and go to a legit company like National, Hertz, Avis, etc.

Horrible experience with FOX Car Rental at Denver International Airport -- VERY POOR customer service from desk agent -- Ashley and supposed manager on duty -- Keith. Ashley was rude, sarcastic and unaccommodating in every way!! She lied about cars that were available -- Needed an AWD for driving in the snowy mountains -- not even a snow brush or scrapper in the car -- Seriously??? Drivers seat was broken -- could not move it AT ALL. Oil had not been changed for over 20,000 miles. Car was FILTHY!! Ashley lied about toll costs when we asked specifically for help with directions and how far we needed to travel on Toll Road. Completely spoiled our vacation -- we could not travel on some of the roads in Rocky Mountain National Park. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM FOX -- you will be so sorry!!!

TLDR: Sullen counter person, good car. But I ended up paying a $15 "admin fee" (which they charged automatically) AND a $27.50 fee for using some kind of toll lane without having a transponder. Which the person at the counter gave me NO information or warning about. We got into LAX at about 4pm on a Saturday. The counter is not in the airport, so we caught a shuttle, which was pretty easy and the driver was nice. When we got to Fox Rent A Car there were maybe 3 other people/groups and we go to the counter almost immediately. So far, so good. The person at the counter looked like he wished he were anywhere else - did not smile, spoke in a monotone (but not a cool monotone like Spock - a dull monotone). His behavior did not quite rise to the level of rudeness, but it was certainly not great customer service.
We were told to take the contract go to row such-and-such (I forget the number now) and pick any car. We did, and there were a couple of decent choices. To be clear, the car ran great the whole time we had it; the car part of the experience was fine. We returned the car right on time (which we were extra careful about because they charge you if you return it EARLY - I've never heard of anyone else down that, but figured it was worth it for the cheaper price of the rental).
About a week later I got a letter stating that Fox had received a toll violation for the car I rented, that they had "transferred" the liability for that to me, and were charging me a $15 "administration fee". And that I still had to pay the violation, which they provided no other information about. They said in the letter that this arrangement was all in the contract (which tells me that this probably happens a lot because they don't tell anyone about the situation and who the hell reads the ENTIRE rental contract? I've never run across this situation before when I've rented a car).
BTW, not being familiar with the entire LA freeway system, I was surprised that a) you had to pay a fee of anything on a WEEKEND, and b) it's super easy to drive in the toll lanes without being aware of it. I thought they were carpool lanes (you know, like a normal freeway) and there were two of us. I saw lots of other cars with only one person in the lane so I figured they didn't work on the weekends anyway. That's not Fox's problem, but it seems to me that they should have at least made me aware that there are toll lanes that require a transponder and how that works.
At the very least they could've provided information about the violation in the letter they sent (since they were charging me for it), especially since they stated that I was still liable for the toll. How much? How/where do I pay? These would've been useful information. My whole experience with Fox was that they didn't care about their customers and they just want my money with minimal effort on their part. Do yourself a favor: pay a bit more and go to a decent rental car agency.

As I said, I rented the car through Priceline.com on Jan 13, 2019 through Priceline.com. I decided to try Fox Rent A Car for the first time. I checked the reviews and overall thought that they were good. I was extremely surprised when I got to the counter at SFO to be told that there was a sign stating effective 2/19/2019 there was an a $1,000 deposit fee for local customers only who live within 150 miles of the airport.
First of all, I understand a deposit fee, Priceline states that there are some fees. I rent a car six or more times a year so I am aware of the charges. The other agencies charge $100 to $500. I have never been charged over $200. A $1000 was levied on local customers only is not only a mistreatment of the local business but ridiculously high, and I feel is totally unjust. Second of all I picked up the car on February 14th and am returning it on the date in your posting that says as of February 19th this fee was supposed to be assessed. Third, I was not notified in advance of me coming there and it was posted at the register. I was not told about the charge until we went over the contract. The agent said read the sign. I did and said, that I was not notified, the agent said it was on the website last month. I did not find anything noted in regards to the local customers being charged a high deposit within 150 miles of airport.
As I said, I understand and accept that companies have every right to charge a reasonable deposit fee. Something that is a fair amount matching the competition. The competition in the area does not penalize local customers or businesses with high hidden deposits. I will say never rent from this company. I sent an email to customer service requesting consideration the same day I picked up the car and again the next morning. To date I have not heard from the company regarding my complaint. Terrible, Do not recommend ever using Fox Rentals.

Wishing I would have read these reviews before using them. We received a downgrade from our reservation without a discount and were required to pay a $400 deposit even though their terms say it's only $150. We were on a quick business trip in San Francisco to handle an emergency with one of our customers. We had the car less than 6 hours. Our bill total was only suppose to be $61.10 including taxes. The hold on our card was $516.04. Once they released the $400 deposit, they kept the balance of $116.04. This is almost double what the total reservation was for and we didn't receive what we reserved. Listen to all these reviews and do yourself a favor... Use a more reputable car rental company. You'll save money and you'll save on all the aggravation.

I had to give 1 star because there wasn’t another option! It’s actually -10 stars!!! I recently rented a vehicle (** Feb 5th-9th) from you guys and had a 8:00 am check out. I was there at 7:30 am (Not a long line, maybe 2-3 people?). I waited in line to get a car, and was ultimately given a car. Upon checking out the vehicle, I noticed it was extremely dirty, not a little dirty, it was really bad! I went and spoke to someone, about this (actually the guy who drives the car from the wash, and he agreed and got the manager) and they ensured me they would get me a clean car? Car 2 was worse, mud everywhere, sticky stuff all over the place, it looked like a Frat Party happened in there right before I got the car, I laughed and thought, I’m on one of those shows where they prank you?
Got the manager again, and he apologized, and said this isn’t the quality and this is unacceptable, and guaranteed me again a clean car, even stated over the radio to make sure this was spotless, let them know why and stated I had been waiting well over an hour and a half, at this point. But this time it’s already 9:30 am, maybe closer to 10 am. Btw the wife was at the airport pickup because I felt it was easier to grab the car then go and get her and our 4 yr old and a 1 yr old vs moving all the luggage all over the place and taking the kids in and out of the cold, So I waited and waited and finally got car 3.
Car 3 was worse and had mud all over the seats (This was the car the manager specifically said, "Make sure this one is spotless", I realize this is Fox standard at Denver Airport. I would be mortified, completely mortified knowing my company like Fox are not taking car of there customers, the cars are extremely dirty and disgusting, and believe is sub par inventory). So frustrated, my wife said just take it (Because she was so frustrated and the boys were restless), the boys are all over the place because it took almost 3 hours! And still a dirt car and the windshield wipers didn’t work to top it off? They seemed frustrated with me? Seriously? Again at this point I wanted to just leave and go to another car rental place. I was about to leave, It was so bad, I would have paid it, walked out and went to a competitor, and let them keep my money!
So I got the manager again, and he would take care of it for me? He stated this isn’t the standard and he apologize! But after 3 hours and 3 different tries, I was OVER IT!!! And the key didn’t work. It was a flip key and didn’t work. It took a few minutes to work the key every time! The manager also stated he would email me and take care of me for some of the worse service I have ever received. No email or call? So we go to the airport early because I knew it would be a long process. Get there, super long line, I asked for a manager, he comes, with a huge pile of chew hanging off his lips, his teeth were black from the tobacco, and literally spitting as he tried to communicate, he was a complete **.
I explained the problem, and let me tell you, this is what completely did it for me. He was extremely rude and argued with me raising his voice in front of about 20 customers. Said it wasn’t his problem, and "What do you want me to do?" He said he couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t the original manager? Seriously? Wow! This was by far the worse experience, WORST! I WILL NEVER EVER RENT FROM FOX CAR RENTAL, and I promise I will do everything in my power to let everyone know about the operation at Fox rental in Denver.
I was with another family and looked At their rental from EZ, yes EZ Car Rental, and was floored! It was super clean, smelled good. Go there!!! DO NOT GO TO FOX RENTAL CAR IN DENVER AIRPORT. So I realized again, that Fox Car Rental in Denver just don’t care about their customers! You almost ruined my family vacation, and by the sound of all the stories I heard from other families while I waited, I wasn’t the only one! Fox rentals just don’t care and the people they have running the show aren’t capable, unprofessional, and the managers are the worst I have ever come in contact with. Chew hanging out his mouth, like I’m not joking, Tabasco everywhere, stains all over his clothes and teeth. I was scared to get close to him!
I am an 11 yr military veteran, and let them know I didn’t appreciate their lack of just about EVERYTHING!!! This is 1000000% unacceptable and want you to know about what is going on in Denver! If you don’t care? Then don’t respond, but if you do, let’s start to Change, it starts with 1. It has been an exhausting task trying to get anyone from Fox Rent a Car Corporate. I know why they don’t give out their numbers. They are probably bombarded with complaints! I will NEVER rent from Fox again.

If I could give 0 stars I would. WORST company ever! DO NOT RENT here!!! It's not worth it!!! We paid in FULL for a rental car in July for our January ski trip. We immediately were charged for the rental and $150 for a deposit. 4 adults and 2 kids arrived at midnight in Salt Lake City and had to wait over 40 minutes for the shuttle. NO ONE picks up a phone when you call so you literally just have to stand in the freezing cold and wait hoping they will show.
THEN we get there and they REFUSE to give us the car because we don't have the EXACT credit card we booked with. We had fraud on our credit card about a month prior so they sent us a new card but the account is exactly the same. I told the representative, "I can log into my account and show you where the charge came out and when the number changed due to fraud. It is the SAME exact account. I also have the confirmation from when I booked." He said, "Sorry, you can rent a new car with us for 4 times the amount and you WON'T get back your payment OR THE DEPOSIT." Absolutely unacceptable!!! I said, "No thank you, I will dispute with my credit card. Please take us back to the airport so we can rent from a reputable company." He said, "Fine." Then the driver arrived and said, "Sorry I'm not taking you back." We argued for a few minutes until he finally agreed to take us back.
We rented from a reputable place and did pay a bit more but still way less than they were going to charge us. It was after 2 am once we got everything sorted. Emailed and called Fox with ZERO reply. On top of that, the cars In their lot looked horrible, beat up and in bad shape. I can only imagine what would have happened if we would have been able to get the car. Probably would have broke down and left us stranded. Worst experience I've ever had and I've travelled all over the world. Never felt the need to write a review like this. Booked a flight and rented a car for my elderly mother to travel to San Antonio. All looked good and they didn't have the car we reserved when she arrived. Ok - they upgraded her at no cost. That was the good part. Goes downhill from there. They sold her every type of insurance, road-side assistance, etc. that totaled over $120 more for the 2 1/2 days she had the vehicle. The $49 rental turned into $179 for 2 1/2 days.
I asked them how they could do that to an older person and she said, "well, the salespeople don't ask if you already have insurance. That's not our job." WOW. Scamming elderly people however is. My mother is 78 years old and didn't know that her current insurance would have covered all of that. I went through a few more scenarios and all I was told was, "well, she signed the papers." I guess she's right. When you can scam extra money out of someone, especially someone on a fixed income, then that doesn't say much for your company. Especially with no offer to even correct part of the amount. Unfortunately, now my mom is stuck with paying the extra. Told them we'd never do business with them again. I guess now the lady at Fox knows that.

Try the other rental people.” No effort was made to help find a car at all. I usually rent direct through Alamo, National or Enterprise Direct but this was recommended through Alaska Airlines when I booked my flight. Lesson learned and never would I use Fox Rent A Car again.

Fox the ripoff Rent A Car. They hold you hostage by taking forever to work through the line. After traveling all night, tired, and hungry, faced with additional hours of negotiation with the staff then driving in unfamiliar location, you weigh the alternatives and just let them take advantage of you. They extort more money out of you with scare tactics and threats to get you to buy upgrades. It would have been cheaper to get a Uber considering the extortion upgrades, and paying for parking most places you go in Las Vegas.

Booked an online car rental for 3 days in Tampa for an all inclusive price of $70. Great rate, right? By the time the unscrupulous sales folks scare you into taking insurance you don't need and add all these upcharges and fees, the $70 turned into almost $350! When you've been traveling all day, it's 10 p.m. and you're a female facing an additional hour's drive in an unfamiliar location - you weigh the alternatives and just let them take advantage of you. Hopefully someone will do something about FOX's lack of transparency and poor business model. They're not focused on repeat business, just robbing you one time and hitting up the next unsuspecting customer. Shame on you FOX Car Rentals!

I had a terrible experience with a Fox car rental. Reading all of these reviews, it seems to be how they operate. I flew from Boston to Toronto because of a life and death medical emergency with my dad. There was a huge storm in Boston and I got out on one of the only flights still departing that day. I got to Toronto 2 hours late and after taking the train to a remote terminal I had to use the courtesy phone in the station to call Fox. Fox informed me that they had given my car away. It seems this is what they do. Even though I had an email saying “your car rental reservation is confirmed”. It really isn’t if they can rent the car to someone else for more money. It is a total scam. Left me stranded at some remote train station in the dark in -35C, trying to get 100 miles north to my dad in emergency surgery. Never, ever again!

For anyone considering using Fox Rent A Car when traveling in a foreign country, please spend a little more and go with a reputable, ethical, and customer-centric company. Fox Rent A Car (and their affiliate partners) may be less expensive up-front than reputable and ethical car rental companies, however, they will charge you for “damage” or other expenses that are illegitimate, or borderline fraudulent when you return the car.
I booked a 6-day car rental in Sicily, Italy in December 2018. When I booked on Carentals.com I thought I would be renting with Fox Rent A Car. However, in the fine print during the online booking process it said the vehicle provider would actually be “Sicily By Car”, which is an “affiliate” of Fox Rent A Car. In reality Fox Rent A Car just passes the business off to these unethical foreign car rental companies who have extremely poor customer service reputations, which is clearly evident from all the negative online reviews. Additionally, Fox Rent A Car has absolutely no concern and no regard for the customer's well-being, or the poor treatment provided to customers by these foreign car rental companies. Fox Rent A Car is only concerned with the commission they receive for referring a customer to the foreign affiliate.
When I picked up my rental car from Sicily by Car at the airport in Palermo, Sicily, I immediately noticed that the front right tire had low air pressure, plus the low tire pressure light was on in the car. Before leaving the airport I got out of the car and found someone who worked for Sicily by Car in the parking lot. I asked her to come look at the tire and tire pressure light in the car. Instead, she declined to come over to my car and told me everything is fine and I can drive away. Taking her advice was a poor costly decision, as I had no idea I would be the victim of a fraudulent charge six days later when I would drop the car off at the airport in Catania, Sicily.
When I dropped off the car at the airport in Catania, Sicily, the employee for Sicily By Car examined the car and then accused me of replacing the front right tire because it was a different model from the other three tires. This was the same tire I had asked for assistance with when I picked up the car in Palermo. At the time I dropped the car off I explained to the employee that I had an issue with the front right tire when I picked up the car, and had requested help, but was denied assistance. I was asked to provide a written explanation of the events whereby the manager would review it and get back to me in a week with a decision on whether I would be charged for replacing the tire, despite the fact that I never replaced the tire. I realized that Sicily by Car knew I would be returning to the U.S., which would allow them to make a false accusation and I would have no recourse to rebut the fraudulent charge.
When I returned to the U.S. I immediately called Fox Rent a Car to issue a complaint and seek help against this fraudulent charge by Sicily by Car. Instead, Fox Rent A Car told me that they couldn’t help me because it was a Sicily by Car issue and they would not have any information concerning my car reservation. After talking to Fox Rent A Car person for 20 minutes about my poor experience, she said to email her all my Sicily By Car drop off paperwork information, along with an explanation of events. She told me that Fox Rent a Car has a relationship manager that deals with these foreign car rental affiliates.
More than a week after I emailed Fox Rent A Car with my paperwork and information, I received an email from Sicily by Car notifying me that I was responsible for paying to replace a tire that I never replaced while the car was in my possession. Shortly after receiving the email from Sicily by Car, I received an email from Fox Rent A Car repeating what Sicily by Car had already told me. Despite the numerous negative reviews regarding Sicily by Car, and my explanation of events, Fox Rent A Car will not believe you and will not help you when all the facts and human logic are in your favor. Instead, they just say “We cannot override any decision made by an affiliate”.
I sent two follow up emails to Fox Rent A Car contesting the final decision by Sicily by Car, but Fox Rent a Car never responded to either of my emails. Fox Rent A Car will just ignore your emails. As I said before Fox Rent A Car is not in the business of customer service, or believing the customer when they have been taken advantage of.
At the time you pick up the rental car, Sicily by Car will hold a $340 deposit on your credit card. At the time I dropped off the car and was accused of replacing the tire, Sicily by Car told me the cost of one tire would be $237. Not only was I fraudulently charged for a tire I never replaced, Sicily by Car kept my entire $340 deposit as evidenced on my credit card. I have emailed Sicily by Car three times (once a week) requesting a copy of the invoice for the tire replacement, so I can dispute the fraudulent charge with my credit card company, but Sicily by Car is purposely ignoring all my emails.
I don’t want other honest ethical customers to make the same mistake I did by renting a car with Fox Rent A Car just because they have the lowest price. Spend a little more money and rent with a reputable ethical car rental company that actually believes their customers, and puts the customer first. If anyone would like to see my rental car paperwork/emails as proof of my situation please let me know and I will be happy to provide it. Fox Rent A Car and Sicily by Car do not deserve your business.

Okay, I booked a car from Fox before I read every review on the internet. The price was very good and location was also close to the airport LAX. After I booked, then I read all the reviews. Then I canceled my booking due to very bad review on Fox. I was afraid to take a chance because I would be traveling with my 2 kids and wife from Indonesia. I didn't want my family to get disappointed: long flight from home for 3 weeks vacation in LA.
So googled again regarding reasonable price for my purpose: full size SUV with unlimited mileage. I couldn't find better deal than FOX. So what the heck, I took my chances by hoping the review on the internet was all wrong. I proved it right: Internet reviews were all wrong about FOX. Service at the counter was fast even though the line was long (due to Christmas and New Year Holiday), I got perfect condition full size SUV as I expected, things were fast. I enjoyed my 2018 holiday and the car. Maybe I was lucky or maybe not. But to find better deal during holiday, FOX is the best. Thank you FOX at LAX.

You think you are signing that you don't want insurance but they charge you for it anyway at the tune of $119.95. I have nothing good to say about this company. First it is impossible to speak to any person online. We arrived at the rental centre in Phoenix and due to the sale there were not enough agents to rent cars which resulted in a long line up. We stood in line for over one hour. and it was over two hours before we finally left the airport. We had reserved a Jeep Grand Cherokee or similar SUV. We later found out that they do not have these vehicles on the fleet. We were given a Dodge Journey which in no way compares to the Grand Cherokee.
At approx 7:00 PM we had a flat tire and I called the roadside assistance four separate times. Each time we would get a recording and once we were the next in line and after approx 10 minutes on hold it would tell us to leave a message. We were able to change the tire with the help of a passerby and drove the vehicle slowly back to the airport only to find out that the roadside assistance phones are only manned from 9 - 5. My advice is do not breakdown outside of these hours. The agent was not able to answer any questions about what to do if you have a flight to catch. Upon our return there were approx 80 vehicles in the lineups and I did not see one Grand Cherokee. In conclusion first the vehicle we got was much less than what we thought we were going to get. We wasted 5 hours to get help with a flat tire that never arrived. Last they charged my credit card even though I paid cash when I returned the car.

Let me just start by saying this is the scammiest, ripoff car rental company I've ever had the misfortune of renting from. When I booked online, I only paid about $120 for the 4 days. At the end of trip, I ended up somehow owing them $400 in extra "fees". I rented a car from Fox for 4 days for a vacation with my boyfriend and I. When we arrived from the airport to the pickup counter, there were only 2 people checking people in and a bunch of other employees just walking around while there was a long line. When it was our turn, the guy at the counter was like a used car salesman trying to get up to pay a ton of money for extra stuff that no one needs. He ended up conning us into getting some toll tag for an extra $15 a day which we ended up not even using.
The real kicker was when we got some expired meter parking tickets, only $25 and which we planned on paying online. But when we went to do so, we saw that Fox already paid immediately and charged us $60 "handling" fee. When I called to say that I was going to pay the ticket, the person said it was too late and I had to pay Fox for the extra fees. So our $120 turned into $400 plus. Save yourself the headache and rent with someone reputable. FOX SUCKS. I would NEVER rent from them again and wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

Went online Monday to cancel a Saturday reservation. If you cancel 96 hours or more prior to the reservation you only get charged $70. If you cancel less than 96 hours before the reservation, you will be charged the entire rental fee. So, this was my lucky day. I only paid $70 for NOTHING. I was forced to pay twice as much as the quote! Priceline.com listed a good deal for this car rental company at Toronto Airport - $10 a day for 2 days. With taxes and fees estimated total was $49.33. with the exchange rate to Canadian $ of 1.31% it should be around C$65. When I got to the counter, David the representative said I have to purchase the Collision Damage Coverage. I said I'm covered through my American Express card. He said I have no choice because my rental price was so low. It was $11.95 per day. I was in a hurry to attend a meeting so I agreed.
When I returned the car, on time, with full tank of gas, David said my total would be $109! I said I'd like to see the itemization. He said he couldn't show me until the amount was paid. I didn't want to miss my flight and I allowed him to process the payment. When I read the statement, I was charged $19 per day. When I asked him he said that was the exchange rate! I said that's crazy, the exchange rate was 1.31, not 1.9%. He said because I rented through Priceline.com, the amount was calculated by Priceline, and his system couldn't change it.
I called Priceline.com immediately to ask if what David said was true. Priceline representative Alexa said that was not true and I should not be charged more than US$10 per day. She said I should not have to pay for additional insurance if I already have coverage. So David was very dishonest and everything he said were lies. Priceline is doing an investigation on their charge. I will suggest to Priceline to take this company off their database if Fox refuses to settle this case.

When I got to the location, the customer service (if that is what you want to call it) was HORRIBLE!!! She quickly went through the rental process and when I asked clarifying questions the counter agent seemed annoyed. I had a question about the return timeframe and next thing you know the manager was typing away on my rental agreement. I never asked for the manager and was not informed she needed a manager. The counter agent was saying something completely different than what we talked about and she snapped at me and said “this is between me and my manager.”
I was then sold the plate pass for “all” the noncash taking tolls between the location and my resort. The 4 total tolls I went through ALL took cash and were less than $10. I hope the company enjoys the extra $57 they “stole” from me. I even asked the counter agent about the tolls and she pointed to a map that had the toll roads in green, but nothing about them accepting or not accepting cash. I hope they enjoy selling telling people they need the plate pass when it isn’t necessary. That night I called the customer service number to discuss the plate pass fee (of $67) and having it removed, needless to say the phone customer service was just as horrible as the rental location.
The SUV we got was a mess and unwashed, it had paint splatters all over the windshield and driver's side of the car, chocolate handprint stains on the interior, a huge dent on the passenger side door and kept saying it needed an oil change. This is the first time in my life I ever felt the need to take pictures of the damage to a rental car I was picking up. We had to the pick up walk around inspection by ourselves and fill out the paperwork, I thought this was the rental place's job not mine. I will NEVER rent from this company again and will never recommend them to anybody. Everyone that works for this company needs to have a training in customer service, starting with the management of the location.

I had a bad experience at San Jose airport car rental service depending upon unreliability were they were unable to provide me car on time. They also charged my account in advance. Likewise, the customer service was similar; they told me that I need to wait 30 minutes, and again when I asked them after 1 minute the answer was it could take more than a hour. Lastly, I canceled my reservation.

After reserving a Jeep Cherokee for $310, I arrived at Sky Harbor and waited in line for 35 minutes with only 6 people in front of me. The representative who finally waited on me said that they did not have the vehicle I ordered. He tried to put me into a Charger - a 2 door sedan. I needed the SUV. Then he tried to charge me a $150 "deposit" which was not disclosed when I ordered the vehicle 3 weeks prior. He said that would be refunded 7 to 10 days AFTER the rental. He also said that ALL car rental companies charge a deposit, which is a lie.
The final straw was the declining of insurance, which was suspicious in nature. You initial a box that confirms you will pay for the insurance that is listed below, but there is nothing listed. Will they insert that later on for a customer to be charged? I refused to rent the car and went next door to Thrifty, where I rented a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $279 (no deposit), and I was in and out of there in about 5-7 minutes. Fox is a terrible company.

Jeez where to start? We were going to San Francisco so I got a reservation for a Jeep Grand Cherokee for $123 for 3 days. When we showed up we stood in line for about 25 to 30 minutes and then finally got to the counter. The guy says my reservation is no longer valid since it's past 3 hours of the time I listed. Well we were only 9 minutes past! And we waited in line for all that time! So the guy says he's gonna help us out and shhh don't tell the manager. That ** gave us a frigging Versa! And charged us $165 for the same 3 days!
If I wasn't tired of dealing with this idiot I would've very much enjoyed sticking his head up his ** and watching him hobble around for a bit. They said they would jump start it, which they did. I drove it, turned it off, and it wouldn't start again. This happened 3 times, 'til they said I should return it to airport 45 mins away. I lost a day dealing with a bad car, then they charged me $225.00 for the jump starts. Other providers would have brought me a working car, possibly even credited the lost day. No matter the rate, Never rent from Fox. They won't answer their phones or return their calls or emails to resolve issue. I'm not asking for refund of promised payment, just a refund of money they stole from me because they had to jump start a car with a bad battery.

Rented through a third party for a Fox Rent A Car as most people do. I had a print out of my rentals details which included in writing. A free additional driver. Roadside assistance. I was to pay a balance off $50 on my prepaid at the counter. When I got there they said that they would not give me an additional driver (unless I paid $10 per day), no roadside assistance, and $300 owed vs $50. When I showed Angel my contract, she said it didn’t matter, it wasn’t Fox’s fault, not her job, that I, the consumer, had to straighten it out with their business partner. When I said I may just cancel (so frustrating it was midnight), she said they’d be penalties!!! When I went to the contract it was not mine as I had been given someone else’s. Trying to locate where to deliver the car cost me a missed international flight, 2 days travel time and $2000. I rented their car through Orbtiz, then the final payment was tripled because all kinds of mandatory fees/insurances, which was a big surprise to me at the pick-up location that was far away from Vegas airport. The guy checked me in, who was careless and aggressive on pushing to close the deal. What the most unacceptable charge is $5.67 off $150 deposit without explanation in the end. I contacted their customer service, the call never went through. Then I requested an explanation on their website, and I never hear back from them. I returned the car much earlier than required time without any damages. I don't understand why the security deposit was not fully refunded. Their horrible customer service and unclear charges are really bothersome.

Please do not rent from this company. This has been the worst experience from start to finish. I rented a vehicle for 2 weeks for my parents visit. I rented the car through the website Carrentals.com. That part was fine. I went to go pick up the car from their location at SFO. The line was horrible. I am not exaggerating when I say it was a solid 2 hour wait just to get to a representative. They found my reservation but on top of what I paid for the rental they also told me I had to pay an additional $1000 because I am a San Francisco resident. I kid you not because of Lyft and Uber operating in SF they are now imposing a $1000 deposit because they think I will steal the car. Also, I’m only allowed to pay the $1000 on a credit card. I can’t use my debit card. Once again because I live in San Francisco. She told me if I was from another city then I wouldn’t have to pay a deposit because they assume since I have to catch a flight then I won’t steal the car.
Well, my credit card is maxed out from booking reservations for my family’s visit and they wouldn’t take my debit card. They told me they could cancel my reservation and rent the car to my dad’s credit card but when I asked to just cancel the reservation they told me they would not do it. I asked if I could just come back the next day with the $1000 deposit and pick up the car at that time and she told me that I could not. She said that if I did not take the car that night then my reservation would be cancelled AND they will keep the full amount I paid for the rental.
Finally I was able to get my dad from the airport and she cancelled my rental and rented the car to my dad instead. They still made us pay the $1000 but she also told me that since we got the insurance then we would get the full deposit back when we return the car since all damage is covered. Well, I returned the car over a week ago and they did not refund the $1000 and we cannot get anyone to answer the phone, call us back and half the time it just hangs up on me with no option to leave a voicemail. This company is only interested in stealing your money. It is a scam and you should not pay them a single cent. I regret ever working with them and will never rent another car from them again.

I am a Fox customer since a month. I choose Fox because it has comparative price (a positive aspect), however, from my experience I have noticed the following things: The website shows when you book online you can choose whichever car you want but after online booking when you arrive to pick up your car they say there is only one car available. If you made a reservation of high end car they will give you options for low end cars but only one option in high end car. This is a bad business policy.
Last week (Oct 13, 2018) I made an online reservation and when I went to pick up the car they said you can take only Kia Rio which had almost 80K mileage and lots of scratches on the body. Since I had no other option I took the car :(. This is not the end. We took the car from San Jose airport and drove for an hour to Walnut Creek to buy a Mercedes-Benz. After making the deal at Mercedes we came to our car to return back to our home in Sunnyvale. And we notice the car had flat tire. We noticed a nail in the tire.
We called roadside assistance which took around couple of hours to fix replace the flat tire with a spare one in the car. For this Fox rental charged me $100 which they should pay because the tire was flat when we took it. They did a trick. They pump the tire before renting it out so that it looks good. I verified this by pumping the tire to notice that it looks perfect. Even the roadside assistance guy told me why you want to change it, it looks good. Then I told him that there is a nail in it but since I pump air in it it looks perfect but as soon as I start driving it will become flat.
So the end story is: Fox did a cheap trick to grab money from me by giving a flat tire which was not noticeable at the beginning. I have rented car from Fox also for a month in the past but with their cheap tricks but giving flat tire and not providing options to select a car I decided I will not rent from Fox anymore in the future. Also to mention their customer service is very busy. You can never get an agent to talk. So please do not fall for low rent price like me. I did a mistake. Now I won't repeat it.

I agreed, because I badly needed a car. The new rental outfit gave me rental papers and there were no taxes, no airport fees and none of the usual charges that legitimate companies charge. Travelocity told me to book a new reservation and cancel the old one later. For some reason they could not do it. I could not do it either and canceled on the next day to try to book directly through the company. My son made the reservation and the Pay Now option but it did not give adding drivers as one of the options and would not let me modify it online.
When I called of course I got the message to call back later. I canceled the reservation and tried to rebook on the phone as a new reservation which allowed me to speak to someone. They told me that since I had canceled they were going to charge me $70 and to in 72 hours I will get a store credit for what I had been charged to rebook. I have a very unpleasant experience when I rented a Fox Rental Car on Sept. 14, 2018 about 2 pm at the San Diego International Airport. I made reservation online # **. I paid with credit card for 4 days of a full size 2/4 Door Automatic Hybrid AC car costing $132.74. I printed the Confirm Reservation. On page 2 there is a paragraph which I quote below: “When you arrive at SAN, there is no need to wait in line. Proceed directly to section in the parking area and select any vehicle in that section.”
This is what I did. I proceeded directly to the parking area for Fox Rent Car. I saw one of your attendant named Charles. I gave him the papers and he proceeded to type into his computer. Meanwhile a family of four came by. Charles stopped what he was doing and attended to the family and gave them a car. I asked Charles how come he got a car ahead of me. Charles said the family have a contract and I don’t. I showed Charles the paragraph above where it said I can pick the car. Charles said that does not work. Charles continued typing.
A couple came by and Charles interrupted what he is doing and gave them their rental car. Very frustrating to be waiting there and people getting their car ahead of me. Charles after minutes asked me to sign the contract four times. Really upsetting. Again I told him in accordance with the paper I got I just select my car and be on my way. Why is he writing up a contract? It took about 15 minutes for Charles to do the contract and a lot of aggravation.
I asked Charles his name. He said, “Why are you asking for my name?”. I told him I am going to write to Fox Rental Car about this experience. Charles asked again, “What are you going to write about me?”. Charles need to be trained on how to ask questions and not be rude. I told Charles I am going to write about my experience here. Charles is displease that I am going to write negative things about him.
Miguel, another attendant came by. Miguel told me, Mr. ** you can pick your car in this lineup of medium size cars. I told him I rented and paid for a full size car and a hybrid (Fusion). Why would Miguel offer me a midsize car when I am paying for a full size? And Fox Rental Car do not have a Fusion so I ended up getting a rental car I did not want.
When I was checking out, guess who was manning the checkout booth? No other than Charles! Is this guy multitasking to work on a role which he is not train nor have no experience to do? Charles is not a pleasant person to deal with. He is argumentative and belligerent and should be confined to the checkout booth and not deal with customers directly. I recently rented a car to attend my grandfather's funeral in Utah. I searched Travelocity for a deal and found one through Fox Rent a Car I found to be fair. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. I waited at the airport for what seemed to be forever for their shuttle to pick me up and take me to their location away from the airport. I arrived only to find out they canceled my reservation because I didn't show up within their allotted pickup window (nothing about this on their itinerary information). I was asked if I still wanted the car. Having no other choice due to time constraints I agreed and they had three of the vehicles I originally agreed upon.
At this point, a representative is supposed to take you to your vehicle to look for existing damage. Not this company. I went back in three different times on three different vehicles because they were all damaged and were not washed. I demanded that someone come out and document the damage so that I would not be held liable when returning the rental. No one came out. Instead, they wrote down on my agreement that there was damage all over the car and not to worry about it.
I ended up taking the vehicle to the wash to make it look presentable for a funeral and had no mechanical issues for the next two days. After turning it back in I waited 45 minutes for their "every 15 minute shuttle" to take me back to the airport. Here is where things went bad. When I checked my credit card a few days later I found that they charged me $244.17 for a two day rental that I originally rented through Travelocity for $94.15. They charged me full price with all the bells and whistles unbeknownst to me. I then tried to contact them to work out the "discrepancy" and could not get ahold of anyone from Fox via internet or phone.
I tried for days and then went to Travelocity for help. They finally reached someone after having me wait for 37 minutes. I explained my case and was told that "I should have checked the new contract for a daily rate change." I compared the contract I was given and the rate was $94.15 for the two days. They had a completely different contract from the one they gave me. I am writing this review because their billing department will not respond to fix this problem and I am completely unimpressed with this company. They pulled the old bait and switch and took advantage of the situation. Don't trust this company. I am now working with my credit card company to resolve the issue. Wish me luck!

Arriving at the airport we saw a long line at Fox Rent a Car and could feel the anxiety among the patrons. Unfortunately it was slow moving. After some time it was our turn and we could not have been happier with the service we received. It was a stressful day for everyone but Marlon handled it like a true professional. He was pleasant, accommodating and made us smile. I will use Fox again because of the pricing and the staff. Great job Marlon!!!

I wish I had read the reviews on this site before I was tempted by price to rent from Fox. We rented a car in San Jose to drive to Carmel for car week. The first car they gave us barely made it to Carmel before it croaked. I called the "emergency" number and seriously waited on hold for 40 minutes before it cut me off. Three calls later, I finally reached a human being by calling their reservations number and begging them to put me through. They brought a replacement late that night in pitch dark. Luckily I made the driver shine a flashlight as I inspected the car. There wasn't one inch of the car that didn't have dents, scratches, and scrapes. Even the wheels were covered in road rash. In the morning, I discovered that our fine rental had 74,000 miles on it. Who rents cars with 74,000 miles? I will never ever rent from Fox again.

Usually, you can use your own car insurance or protection from your credit card should be accepted when you rent a car from any rental car company. This company "FOX" wanted to obligate me to get their insurance, they said: "not transfer insurance". But that thing was not stated in the contract when I rent online through a third party, CarRental.com. On the top of that, they do not have a desk at the airport in Miami, you will need to be transferred to a horrible place outside of the airport. I walked out and got a cab to my hotel. They never returned my deposit because the contract states no cancelation. But they never told me I was obligated to get their insurance. They just recommend getting an insurance, but never, never said to get them. This happened on June 1st, I believe.

I recently booked a prepaid car through carrentals.com to pick up from San Francisco Airport. Because of heavy flight delay and expected arrival in the middle of the night and 4 hrs after my set pickup time I called Fox Hotline ahead to assure I would still be able to pick up the car. After waiting on the phone for 45 minutes to get through I was assured they are open 24 hrs and would hold my car for 12 hrs. Fine, I believed... When we arrived at 12:30 a.m. there was a long line at the Fox counter (all other counters on the same level were closed), we waited for about 20 minutes for only 2 customers to proceed... Only then the guy behind the counter told everybody that only the next 3 people would get a car. "We ran out of cars".
WTF - how can they call themselves car rental company that serves 24 hrs and manages prepaid customers?! I don't think so... Also, their customer service email doesn't consider it necessary to answer to emails at all. They ignored my 2 Lyft receipts as well, which I asked them to refund because I had to take a ride instead of taking the rental car. In summary: forget about this company!!

However we still have been charged with $7.99/gallon of gas. We need straight this out, I will call my credit company to refuse pay the amount of $510.18. That's not all. When we returned the car, the gentleman asked us back to the parking slot, not the inspection station. I told him: "That's not my job." He get really mad. When we rented a car, at beginning it was a Jeep SUV, however, the car front tire was malfunction, we have to return and change a Kia SUV. That not all: The AC in the KIA SUV is in a very poorly running condition in the hot summer day. And the USB connection with my phone is malfunction as well. I thought for just that 3 hours. NO my total rental price would go from $409.00 to close to $1000. It was insane. I came back at 10 AM to long lines and NO Kia Sportage. They gave me a (new???) Rented a car from Fox Rent A Car at Ft. Lauderdale Airport. They use deceptive practices to get you on a contract, sell you extras as though they are mandated by the state you are renting in and once they get your credit card forget about it. Was told that due to local and state law that my private insurance nor credit card would cover liability on the rental card. I was told that I needed to purchase the PlatePass to avoid an additional $15 charge for each toll I went through. I told them what areas that I would be driving to and was told that there were several tolls. Did NOT go through one toll the whole week I was in the area!!
I tried to contact their office to ask for a refund on these unnecessary charges, but no one has answered the phone in 3 weeks - "due to high call volume". No wonder this company doesn't answer. They are scamming everyone. I've filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's Office (did online). Please file a complaint with so hopefully they will shut down this company or fine them heavily for their deceptive practices. (Booked car online for $185.75. Paid $366.87 after being lied to with an additional $150 deposit, which I did receive back in a couple of days after returning the car at the end of the week.)

Fox (Car Rental San Jose, CA) was not very helpful with our pick up and made us wait for 2 hours even though they had vans available. They pushed real hard to get us to purchase Insurance even though we had coverage. The car was not serviced very well, was not that clean on the interior and had many scratches on the exterior which was noted. The tires were low and there was no windshield washer fluid.
Then We pre purchased the fuel which is stated at 3.65/gal $73.00, then they charged an additional 89.00 for fuel on the credit card separately. The total charge on the rental was more than stated on the contract total charge amount ($61.39 more). With the double fuel charge this was $150.39 overcharge. When we talk with customer no care they would not recognize the overcharges and said we could file a dispute with American Express to get an answer. Then we ended up.using a different credit card because they would only do debit on my bank card. The employees spoke horrible English, hard to understand, we asked for someone else, they became very hateful. By the time we left they did charge a $200.00 deposit.
When we received our credit card statement the following month, we were charged the $400.00 and only $200.00 was returned, we called Expedia and Fox, we were told it was because we used a different card than the original and they had to add that person to the policy (even though she doesn't drive) so I paid for an additional driver that had no licence, but she had to be on it because we're using her credit card. They did; however, Fox would not pay Dollar for it and Dollar said they had to re-charge me for the rental and I would have to get the money back from Fox. Fox told me they did not have a manager on-site that could refund my money and I would have to either wait for a car in the class I paid for to be returned or pay Dollar and get my money back from Fox later.
I opted to pay Dollar for my car rental then after my trip I tried to contact Fox to get my money back. I tried multiple times and could not get through to anyone on the phone number provided on the website so contacted carrentals.com who were great and gave me the direct number to Fox's billing department. It's been over 2 weeks now and despite several messages left and emails sent, I've not heard back from anyone regarding the lost backpack except for a message from "customer care" stating someone would get back to me. They make it impossible to talk to someone directly at the specific location and they certainly do not return messages. I'll admit the value and car selection wasn't bad, but it seems there is very little "care" given to the customer after the credit card is charged.

I booked this rental through Expedia (highly recommended). The shuttle from the airport was easy and quick, driver was friendly and very courteous. Dropped me at the front door and helped with my bags. My rental agent was Shawn. I found him to be knowledgeable and helpful. I had reserved a Jeep Wrangler and I got a 2018 Wrangler, 4 door. Very nice! Only had 6,000 miles on it. The rental agreement is pretty straightforward, although the website listed the rental at $24 dollars a day and after taxes, fees and surcharges it was more like $38-$40.
The only issue I had with the rental process was my bank card can be used as a credit or debit card. Shawn said his machine would not accept it as a credit card so he would have to charge me a $400 deposit for using a debit card. I've never heard of anything like that, but he assured me the deposit would be returned when I returned the vehicle. And in fact, it was. Leah met me in the parking lot when I returned and issued me a receipt for the deposit on the spot. Late the next day the deposit showed at my bank. We rented a Fox car at Denver airport on July 23. When we got to the counter, we told the agent we chose to waive the fee for insurance and roadside assistance. She moved forward with the contract, had me initial the boxes that she said "were needed to waive the fees". After we signed the contract and were assigned the car, I noticed that there was a discrepancy between the reservation cost and the final cost that was $150 different. When I questioned her about this, she stated that was just a deposit fee and would be reimbursed once we returned the automobile.
After we got to our hotel, we discovered that she had indeed added roadside assistance and insurance to the contract, but did not disclose this fact. When we arrived at 9:52 a.m the rental desk upstairs was closed and sent everyone down to another Fox rental desk with an extremely long line. We waited in line for 2 hours to get our car the clerk (Rocky) said, "I am sorry we have nothing to accommodate 6 but I will take care of it. Give me a few minutes." At this point we were already running 2 hours behind and were driving to San Jose to tour Winchester house for a 2:40 tour.
The clerk sent me an e-mail and sent me to the Hertz rent a car. We received a rental SUV from Hertz at 12:04 p.m. at which point we had 2 hours to get to San Jose or lose tour money. We started giving ourselves 4 hours of time to get there! The Hertz rental he had arranged was a 2 day rental and mine with Fox was a 3 day so I had to add on the 3rd day because of our timing. Every time I asked about the 2 versus 3 day rental he insisted he was taking car of it.I left there with a copy of a paper stating 2 day rental and a very different amount that I should be refunded Rate difference per day $131.88 for 2 days? What happened to my 3rd day and time?
He has the competitor's rate showing 468.00 but again that was for a 2 day rental. I made a 3 day rental. My $808.71 car rental versus my Fox Car rental of $336.77 is a difference of $471.94 also I had to pay $100.00 for prepay gas which would have only been a $50.00 charge at FOX would be car difference of $471.94 and $50.00 for gas totaling I should be refund of $521.94. And before booking with FOX, I did a lot of searching to find the best price. I called that day to see if I could get the reduced rate. The answer was NO. The lady said when you select the "PAY NOW" option you are locked into that rate. I then said I wanted to cancel my reservation. She told me that I would not be refunded. I would get a credit for future rental minus $70.00. I then called my credit card company right away to see if I could cancel thru them.
The total amount of $414.73 plus $150.00 deposit was already on my charge card and my trip was more than a week away. The credit card company could not cancel charge unless I canceled the rental car first. I was stuck with the car and the high rate. So beware with this company as they are not flexible at all. Rented a small car from Fox in Denver. Price was way higher when I signed paperwork, they never included all the taxes and such on original quote and the lady CSR had personality of dry popcorn. The shuttle driver both ways was the best part of my experience. Go to pick up my Versa that I rented. They chose to give me a car that had filthy seat and floor was still filthy from previous person. I got the manager and said this is not acceptable. I asked if they clean the seats between customers. I was told no. She proceeded to give me a red Camry. But another Fox client came up and stated that was his car. I was getting ticked as my vacation time was ticking away. She finally came out and said, “We are giving you an upgrade for free.” She puts me into a Ford Explorer...did I mention I wanted a Versa?
I hate larger vehicles that are like driving an ocean liner. But I wanted to get started...thing sucked the gas and first time I went to fill up...no gas cap. WTF? I suffered through this week. Two weeks after I get home I get a bill for about $58. $12ish for tolls and $45 dollars administrative fees. Stay away from Fox. They give you cars that are not clean and mislead you on the online pricing. I was quoted like $245 originally I ended up paying over $340 before tolls and administrative fees. They don't tell you what true price will be after taxes. By the way when I loaded up the explorer there were nacho chips on floorboard and empty plastic soda bottle rolling around in back. STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN SAKE! They never even responded to my complaint. Not so much as we are sorry for the product you received.

We had a meeting with business partners in Houston. Rented a car from FOX for the first time. Car was OK, service from the managers was excellent since we left a few items in the car and they recovered everything except the umbrella. But that is where the Good Ends. I got the other guys beat on the tolls, we had 1.98 in tolls between Katy and Humble and back. 5 Tolls in all. This was the weekend of June 15th. On July 10th I get a letter explaining that I owe 1.98 for the tolls and 75.00 FREAKING dollars for the fees.
Hertz does not charge this much in fees, Enterprise does not charge this much in fees. The counter agent did not explain the plate pass option and I do not read the landfill brochures at the counter. THEY Should explain their policies especially if it is a new customer... Unfortunately this will cause me to think twice before renting from them again, even with the refund on part of the rental price. The manager said he would do as much as he could. It did not cover the 75.00 but made it a little easier to swallow.

Your car plate is photographed instead. The toll is $7.75... Fox later billed me for the $7.75, but then charged me an ADDITIONAL $15.00 for "administrative fee". Complete ~200% ripoff. I'll pay the $22.75 charges, but I'll NEVER rent from Fox again. Slimey **...

This company does not serve its customers, instead trying to milk them for more money when it is most opportune for them. I booked a car rental with them from San Francisco to San Diego. The deal was better than what competitors offered at the time. This is their "bait and switch" tactic. They “bait” you with a rate that is better than that of competitors, so that budget conscious consumers book with them. However, at check in they "switch" by saying that the special rate is only for cars that are most available at the time. Then they go on to tell you that the only car they have available for that deal is a 15-seat van or something ridiculous like that. Of course, no sane tourist can accept such a vehicle, so they offer another special rate for a higher class car that is available.
Because in the moment, consumers can be stretched for time or have less options, they often get you to buy the higher rated car. I ended up paying $250 more than the original booking. In addition, they pressure you to buy insurance. If you don't buy insurance, they then tell you to buy a toll pass with a daily fee. They tell you that without the toll pass, penalty could be $90 for each toll. I didn't go for this and when I checked online it is very easy to register with the state to pay as you go. However, we didn't even run into any tolls on our trip. Finally, they add about $30 of transaction fees and charge a $150 deposit. This is a very dishonest business that takes advantage of consumers. Stay away or be warned.

We had an SUV booked and upon arrival we got an SUV where baby’s car seat was not buckling up and other 2 SUVs were same also, so we had to get another car. They didn’t mention any extra charge for upgrading. Later they not only charge extra $160 but also they simply lied and charged $1.30 more per gallon oil. As we book through Priceline, they should have helped us but they didn’t. Not going to book any through Priceline again too.

If we wanted a convertible, we needed to pay 150% over the price we had. The customer service of this company is very poor and really should address that people have options and not just take customers for granted. When I told the customer service person of my dissatisfaction, he really could care less and told us if we don't want the car when we were to get the car in 30 minutes. VERY POOR.

When I arrived which took 3 separate shuttles from airport to rental office only to find new debit card rules were in force which I was not made aware of that included $400 deposit besides all the other extra charges I heard would be added (and not told by them), I was told at the counter that my card was not acceptable... I ended up stuck in Vegas for 2 days, then took a Greyhound bus home. Since then every single person I've met had negative responses for them. The entire time we were there we didn't hit one toll. The total we were being charged was $532.36. There were all these additional taxes and fees PLUS $150.00 deposit. The rude lady, Jeanne at the counter asked if I wanted a Kia Sportage and how it was a nice car. On 5/25/2018 I made a one day car rental - from 8/26/2018 - 8/27/2018. I used FoxRentacar.com pick up from SJC airport, and return SFO airport. The 1 Day cost is $10.85. I choose use pay now to save $3.00, the total charge is $50.44. After I click through and paid with my credit card I found out that Fox Rental car will CHARGE $1,000 Security Deposit to my credit card. Within few minutes after my reservation, I try to use Chat with Fox Rental Car to cancel this reservation, the rep from Fox Rent a Car Name: Kaan told me if I cancel this reservation Fox Rental car will charge me $70. This is almost 4 month in advanced reservation, I thought the Security Deposit is for when I go Pick up the car at SJC and return to SFO. Period.
On 6/18/2018 I checked my credit card balance. I notice that Fox Rental car on 5/28/2018 had already charged my credit card $1,000 and the $50.44 for this reservation. In this case if I don’t have the $1,000 to pay for my credit card, I will end up pay the credit card interest for 3 month which is about additional $60. So I call Fox Rent a Car on 6/20/2018 try to reasoning with the Customer Service Manager, his Fox Rent a Car employee ID: **. No matter what I explain to him, he insist that Fox Rent A Car will charge whatever the reservation cost, which means Fox Rental A Car will charge me $50.44. I do admit that when I make the reservation I did not read the text carefully under “Security Deposit Charges”: YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT CARD CHARGES “SECURITY DEPOSIT” CHARGES ON YOUR CREDIT/DEBIT CARD. Estimated Total $50.44 ** Security deposit will be calculated before final payment.
I firmly believe that is not reasonable that Fox Rent A Car to charge whatever they want for Deposit. Within few minutes of reservation I want to cancel this reservation. They want to charge me $70 for cancellation. And from here https://www.consumeraffairs.com/travel/fox.html many consumers had complain about Fox Rent A Car use the security deposit to overcharge.
Two reasons I am cancelling this reservation: 1. I don’t want Fox Rent A Car have the advantage to deduct whatever they want from my Security Deposit after I return the car. 2. If I keep the reservation, I need come up $1,000 to pay my credit card this month. If I do not have the $1,000 I need to pay credit card interest. The APR Rate is 16.74% for 3 month. 3. I decide to cancel my reservation. They will not refund my reservation total: $50.44, after I receive the cancellation mail: The Pay Now cancellation fee of $70.00 has been charged to your account. The one day rental was $10.85 rest of are tax and fees which I do not rent this car.

1st and only time to use Fox. Only used b/c they were the only company open at the time we needed to pick up the car. When we rented, the attendant was very nice. She said it had a full tank of fuel, we could either go ahead and purchase that tank at their cost (which she said was cheaper) or we could return the car with a full tank. She said we could purchase full or half tank. I asked her if we purchase a full tank, what happens if we bring it back with half tank or more? She advised it would be prorated... So I purchased a full tank from Fox. After we got on the road, I noticed the fuel prices where actually lower than what I purchased from Fox. When we returned the car, it had a half of tank.
The attendant told me that there is no prorate, it should have been empty. I tried to contact customer service, the only thing I can get out of them is the car should have been returned with a full tank. I can't get them to understand and realize that I purchased a full tank from them before I left the terminal. The vehicle was in great shape. The shuttles to and from McCarran Rental Center were fast and pleasant. My only suggestion would be if you need a Jeep Wrangler and you can choose from more than one Jeep, don't choose based on color like we did. Recently traveled to Denver and rented a vehicle from Fox Rent A Car. Did "Pay It Now" option for some slight savings. The one positive part of the experience was the patient man helping us with our reservation. However, it was snowing and no one walked us out to our vehicle, despite there being no line. My husband had to run around and find our vehicle. We prepaid for fuel (convenient and only $2.49/gallon). Last night, I was just reviewing our credit card bill and I see that we were overcharged nearly $100.
For one, right under our pre-paid fuel charge, there is a charge for fuel at $6.99/gallon for a total of $69.90. The rep I spoke to was quick to say that it was a glitch in their system because we ended up with a different vehicle than the original reservation stated and the pre-paid fuel charge didn't show up. This doesn't really add up to me since both charges were there on my bill. She was a bit too quick with that excuse and I wonder how many people are charged this and never catch it. Seems it would be easy to fix your software, so that if someone pre-pays for fuel there would be no way to also charge them for fuel upon return (i.e. those two charges can't both be inputted/generated). That amount was quickly refunded.
Additionally the taxes are not accurate and I couldn't even get an explanation from the person at the call center in their "Billing department" where there are apparently no supervisors available. Her response, "The owner says to charge that amount and so that's what we charge." Actually, the owner of Fox Rent A Car, doesn't get to charge whatever amount of tax he/she wants and can only tax items that are taxable. She was unable to do anything about the wrong taxes being charged to me. She said she would ask the local Denver rental office to call me and then I called back and spoke to a reservations manager who said that he was going to escalate it to their billing administration department, but neither could guarantee or confirm if someone will actually call me. Seems crazy in this day and age, that the only way to resolve this issue with Fox is to file a direct complaint with Denver's Consumer Fraud Unit, which I plan to do.
The Denver Rental Taxes (Fox charges 13.25% which includes a 2% ownership tax in addition to the regular sales tax of 11.25%) are overcharged by $15.72 and the Concession Recovery Fee (an 11.11% fee on the rental that rental car companies charge renters to offset the 10% airports charge them on their gross revenue) is overcharged by $8.77. The fact that the customer rep couldn't even explain the 13.25% tax and what it included was not reassuring. Prior to calling Fox, I verified with a tax expert at the Colorado Department of Revenue, who clarified what I suspected to be accurate and encouraged me to try to resolve it with them first, but informed me that I had recourse if they weren't helpful.
Last minor thing, they over-sold us on a toll pass that we didn't use and when I mentioned that to the billing rep, she said that I could have it refunded if the contract hadn't been closed. Well, that would have been super helpful information to know when we returned the rental or purchased the unnecessary toll pass. For the toll pass, I should have done more research, but want anyone else to know that if they get sold on something they don't use, Fox will supposedly refund you if you request it upon returning vehicle, prior to closing out your contract. Hard to think of all these things when you're rushing around with little kids to catch a flight!
I do not recommend utilizing Fox. The first five times I tried to call billing, I received an automated message that stated they were getting too many calls, asked me to call back later, and disconnected to a dial tone. If you have an issue with being overcharged, the employees at the call center have no way to adjust the charges beyond overbilling you for fuel. At this point, the amount of effort to get the rest of the money they owe me is almost not worth the time and effort, which I'm guessing is what they count on. I'm going to break down the fees for anyone else that is curious:
ERF (Energy Recovery Fee) = $1.31/day. CFC (Customer Facility Charge) = $2.15/day. CRSPF (Colorado Road Safety Fee) = $2/day. VLF (Vehicle License Fee) = $0.35/day. DEN RENTAL TAXES (Denver Rental Tax) 7.25% tax on short term auto rentals + 4% + 2% ownership fee (applied at rental company's discretion) = 13.25% of base rental and potentially includes car seats, navigation, etc but the above fees are not subject to this tax).
DIA CONC. 11.11 PCT (Denver International Airport Concessions Fee 11.11%) This is a charge that rental car companies have elected to transfer to the customer to recover the 10% revenue fee that the Denver International Airport imposes on them for the privilege of doing business at the airport. (Note: this fee varies from airport to airport). The tax expert I spoke to said that this fee shouldn't extend beyond the gross revenue for the vehicle (i.e. base rental and taxable items purchased). In my case they seemed to charge me Denver Rental Tax (13.25%) on a portion of the fees that is not taxable and they did the same thing with the Concession Recovery Fee (applying 11.11% to an amount that was not part of Fox's revenue). These padded taxes and fees add up quickly at these high percentages. Renter Beware.

This is the worst company ever. Complete bait and switch. Apparently when you do a "pre-paid" reservation (I put in quotes because this is NOT a clearly explained policy), it is non-refundable if you cancel the reservation. Nothing actually tells you it's non-refundable, possibly the fine print, but no clear guidance when you are booking.
I booked a rental car for a few days for a trip to Denver. Ended up not needing it so I cancelled the reservation. The reservation confirmation email says in RED and BOLD, "Please help us to continue offering the discounted rates you have come to expect by kindly canceling your reservation should your plans change." NOTHING about non-refundable "pre-paid" fees. When I went to cancel, still NOTHING informing me about the fact that I would not be refunded. So shady! But OK fine, I can't this money back. BUT on top of that, Fox charged me an ADDITIONAL $150 (on top of the car rental amount I agreed to) and then after I cancelled, DID NOT REFUND all of this amount (they did refund a portion, but why not all???). I had to call customer service, was on hold for 30+ minutes, just to get the rest of the $150.00 back, not even the "non-refundable" car rental portion. Still not confident I will ever see this money - this place is a complete scam!!!

First of all we rented this through Priceline because it came up as cheapest, I have never had a problem renting with any companies in the past so I didn't bother to look up reviews of this one. BIG MISTAKE. First when we arrived to building from the DIA shuttle, we had to wait an extremely long time for the disgruntled agent to finally call us. Once we got to the counter the Lady agent seemed right off the start like we owed her something, very rude and short with us. We had just traveled all day and wanted to simply get the car and go (we still had an hour+ drive).
While she started to explain all the different fees (for example the toll pass where you pay ~$12/day just to be able to use tolls, which does not include the cost of tolls!) we said that we would be declining an additional coverage or add-ons because my credit card has really good rental insurance. This seemed to upset her and she said "Ook" in a very sarcastic manner. Next she said that I need to sign the initial multiple times, which she told me is saying that I am declining additional liability, road-side service, toll pass, etc. Finally, she had me sign the car damage form report (before you even able to even see the car), luckily the damage did actually match what was written.
The big trouble came after returning the car (which took a long time because they had a line of people waiting for one guy to scan in the cars). After returning home and seeing my CC statement, I realized that after they returned the $150 damage deposit, I was still paying ~$330 instead of the originally paid ~$190 I had from Priceline. I called them and after waiting for a ridiculous amount of time was able to speak to a customer service rep. His response was that I elected for the additional liability and road-side service.
I was dumbfounded, I explained to him that no, I had specifically and clearly told the Lady at the counter that my credit card offers these so I was declining these add-ons. I also explained that she repeated back to me that I was declining the services when she told me to initial in the screen (also the screen does not say what are you initialing for, you have to rely on the agent actually telling you the truth). The customer service agent just said that since I initialed the box I was out of luck. This still infuriates me to no end. My only recourse has been to dispute the additional charges with my CC. I explained to them exactly what happened and they put a note to request security tapes for the ~15 minutes before the rental time tag says.
This could have been avoided by scrutinizing the confusing bill they give you before getting in the car, but this was after a long day of travelling and I was more focused on making sure the damage report accurately described the car. Now I see why the Lady quickly stapled together all the papers with the bill on the back before calling the next person in line. In the end, Fox Rent a Car is the most shady company I have ever dealt with. Now that I have searched I have seen many reviews say the same thing has happened to them. I will likely continue to rent from this location in Denver and record the interactions on my phone in the future hoping to get them (specifically hoping for the same Lady agent) to try it again.

Rented a car in Ft Myers for an advertised $7.00 per day, great because I only needed to drive it one way to Tampa airport the next morning. A lot of pressure to upgrade, purchase unneeded and already declined coverage at the counter. Unknown to me there was a cashless toll entering the Tampa area and several weeks after the rental I received a statement from Fox for the 78 cent toll along with a "reasonable" administrative fee of $15.00 - absolute extortion. Several days later a second statement is received for the same toll road for $1.99 and another "reasonable" administration fee of $15.00. Now I'm up to $32.77 for $2.77 worth of tolls on a $7.00 rental. Of course there was no mention of the tolling practices at the counter when I picked it up. Why would there be when these fees are a huge income stream for the company with a near zero actual cost to them?
Of course I then searched the internet for more information and found these scams are varied and widespread with the rental car industry. The whole process of Fox receiving the toll charge, payment to the authority, and billing to you and I is completely automated - so yes near zero cost to them. So how is $15.00 per toll reasonable? Now what options are available to the consumer? Don't rent from Fox: all rental companies are up to the same game. Buy toll transponders everywhere you rent a car: excellent another burden with its own fees. Write your politicians asking for legislation to control the scams: I'm sure by the time they're done $15 will be reasonable to them as they get their kickbacks.

Then they appear to upgrade you to a larger car and after they make the change, they tell you it's going to cost you more.
If that isn't bad enough, we were told to keep track of the tolls we went through and we could pay for them when we turned in the car and this would avoid paying a $15 charge if they had to mail us a bill. NOT... when we returned the car we were told that for one $4.70 toll, we could choose to pay $11/day ($66+) or they would bill our credit card $15+. Regardless of what the employee, Myron, told us when we picked up the car! Or in not so many words "**!" We got your money and your card #. The $226.27 online car rental ends up to be $300 plus tolls and addition fees of $15 to pay the tolls. Rip off and very poor customer service! NEVER AGAIN!

I recently rented a car with Fox Rental at San Francisco Airport through Auto Europe. I paid all the rental cost to Auto Europe and got a voucher to the rental counter at the airport to pick up the vehicle on May 3, 2018. At the counter, I was held talking with the counter agent for almost 45 minutes which she kept recommended me purchase extra coverage. I told her I have had coverage through my credit company and want to decline all any additional coverage. Finally I was asked to sign on a digital box that install on the counter and explained that I have agreed to pick up the vehicle. Due to the tiredness after the flight and a long waiting to finalize the rental, I signed and went to pick up the vehicle.
After returned the vehicle and left for home, I found out my credit card was charged with 2 different amounts. Then I looked at the rental agreement and found that the agent has added an additional liability coverage and roadside assistant coverage on the rental agreement. I contacted Fox customer service and was told the charges was according to my acceptance. I am very disappoint to the dishonesty business dealing of Fox agent. The coverage added without knowledge of customer when customer was asked to sign the agreement without seeing the actual paperwork. However, the initial to decline the coverage was not me who did it. This will be the first and last time I deal with Fox Rental. Please advise the consumers be aware of that scam.

My first experience with Fox will be my last, and now I understand why they have the absolute worst reviews of any car rental company. I paid for a Chrysler 300 (luxury class) about six weeks before traveling to Denver. Upon arrival, the line was long and slow to move, and the facility looked like a temporary one, though I understand it is not. At the counter I was told they didn't have my 300 but I could have a Santa Fe for the same price. I told the guy that wouldn't work because one of us was elderly and can not climb into any SUV. He then offered an Explorer, which I told him would be even worse, and why. Next up was a Ford Expedition - an even taller/higher full-size SUV!
A lady was then called over and offered me a Dodge Charger, which I had already refused to accept without a discount. She proceeded to tell me that it was actually a better car than a 300 because they classify it as "special." I declined again, saying that it was not what I was expecting and should be cheaper because it was not as well equipped, and she told me that I should be happy getting it for the same price because it's a sports car. A sports car!? After 25 minutes or so I was down to one word answers and the staff was becoming visibly frustrated. At that point they magically found the 300 they previously claimed they did not have. They then attempted to charge me $170 for pointless insurance that I had already refused. They also failed to adequately explain their toll extortion program to me.
I declined their prepayment program because I was told that my only choice was to either pay for it for every day of my rental or decline it entirely, even though I knew I would only use a toll road once. I was also told that without it I would be charged $15 each time I got onto a toll highway, though I was later charged three separate administrative charges over a span of 16 minutes on one highway, plus actual toll charges. I will be disputing this with my credit card company. The return process was quick, easy, and painless, taking literally seconds, and the return staff were downright friendly. This however does not outweigh the horrendous experience at the rental counter, and I will never again use Fox.

Renting from Fox Rent A Car turned out to be the worst car rental experience in all my travels. In order to pick up my prepaid car, I had to wait in a long line and endure each and every person before me listening to a prolonged one to two hour speech about how the Full-size SUV Ford Explorer or similar wasn’t available. I had a long day and the last thing I wanted to was deal with incompetent people. First, they played ring around the rosie with me. They wanted us to go downstairs but I informed them I was just down there and they rudely sent me upstairs. They did not have anything similar - everything they had was completely beat up/large dents, fenders not aligned.
After 2 hours I rolled off in a low end sport SUV. Bait and switch, rude customer service, hard upselling, and at the end me what I did not pay for. When you call Fox assistance they don't answer their phone and leave you on hold indefinitely. When they finally did answer, the agent was very very rude and did not care at all about my concerns.
That same day while at the Fox Rent Center, I was told that an agent would be reaching out to me and getting a new car for me but no one called or anything. I went back to return the low grade car I was given. I dropped off the car and once again voiced my concerns and they all looked at me like I was crazy. They did change the car but gave me an SUV that was all scratched and one side of the bumper was hit with a warning sign on the dashboard “maintenance required.” I was assured that the Vehicle was good to go. I took the vehicle because I honestly had no choice. To say I’m disappointed in this service is an understatement. I do not recommend Fox cars to anyone! Each and every item was both unnecessary and overpriced, leaving me with the impression that I was being "played." This two hour ordeal was a terrible beginning to a much anticipated action. Two weeks after I returned home, I received a bill for $32.77 because the Fox claimed I had accumulated $2.77 worth of tolls. I arrived in Tampa, Florida Thursday evening around 11:40 p.m. By the time I got to Fox Rent a Car it was a little after midnight. I picked up my car from Fox and vacated the parking garage. I pulled over in the GPS parking lot and that is when I found out my phone would not work. Verizon towers were down in the area and apparently were since early that day. I was not able to turn around and go back into the garage. I could only go forward. It was dark, after midnight and I was in an area I had never been before. When I spoke on the phone with Fox today their answer to me was that they do not provide maps. I was simply calling to advise what had happened and that it would have been excellent customer service had Fox notified those of us who were picking up cars that our GPS may not work.
I am female, I was alone, after midnight, no idea where I was, having to find my way on dark deserted streets. I got turned around and couldn't seem to get back to the airport. I was petrified. I will not use Fox again and I hope other car rental companies take note of this. I am a grown adult and I do take responsibility for myself. I know Fox is not REQUIRED to provide us with any information, however, I did feel that it would have been good for CUSTOMER SERVICE if they advised us about the tower issue in the area.

She wanted us to go downstairs but I informed them I was just down there and they rudely sent me upstairs. Finally someone came in at 11 pm. All she did was complain how slow the other person was and did get me checked in.
Now, I go downstairs to pick up my the car and there is the same rude person... with his monotone voice tells me to go do a walk around the car and if anything is wrong come back up... of course there was several things wrong and I go back up. He seemed annoyed because now everybody is coming to get their cars. We do the walkthrough and I point out several things and ask at one point... may I have a different car. He looks at me and tells me NO! I’m exhausted at this point.
The next day, the person I’m visiting noticed the right tire on the driver side rubs against front bumper when turning. The car was filthy. Looked like they never cleaned it after the last person. So, we call customer service. We explained the whole situation. She acted like she could care less and at one point made us feel like she wasn’t even listening to us. She stated we could bring the vehicle back which would be 2 hours there and back for us or they could give me a 20% discount. Once again, she sounded annoyed doing this.
I dropped off the car and once again voiced my concerns and they all looked at me like I was crazy. Told me to have a nice day and moved me along. I did make sure I received my 20% off and the guy never asked once why I was unhappy with the rental. He was too busy talking with his co-worker. They all were VERY unprofessional. Sad thing is, I’m traveling in 2 weeks and was going to get another car with them. I instantly canceled my reservation and booked with another company. A very unsatisfied customers.

My issue isn't per se with them but all rental companies in California. I live in NY and just got a bill from Fox for Fastrac, going in the express lane without a Fastrac tag. I carefully read the signs on the highway before entering the express lane and it says no charge if two or more passengers, which we had. I now discover, reading the bill, that you need a Fastrac tag. That should be pointed out by car rental companies in California when renting to out-of-staters, same as crossing Golden State Bridge, or needing chains to go on certain roads. No big deal just a standardized page giving the info.

I requested another car as this is very unsafe, but the front desk said this is the only available in economy and I have to take it. This vehicle stopped twice but then started itself in 4 days. On 7th Jan night, was in Orlando Universal Studios parking lot at 8:30 pm and it again did not start for third time. I rang roadside at around 9:20 pm asking to swap a vehicle. They informed "They will tow the vehicle to nearest location along with me in 45 mins and I need to take a new car. They can not bring a car to my location." I agreed to that, to go to nearest Fox Rental office along with the malfunction car to pick another vehicle though it will waste my time. The policy is to bring a car to the location where it stopped which they ignored. They said towing will be with me in 45 mins but "THEY TOOK 4 hrs."
Me and my wife were shivering in my car all night alone in the parking lot until 3:45 am. I made around 10 calls, they picked only 3 and every time they said towing will be with me in 20 mins (wrong status updates). Finally at 3:45 am. towing came and we went to Fox Rental office and took another car at around 4:30 am. Because of this:
I lost my motel which I booked in Miami, as they did not cancel my booking since it's past check in. I also lost 140$ which I already paid for water sports for the next day in Key West. I was suppose to be on a day cruise in Key West the next day by 8:30 am. But I could not go as I got the new vehicle at 4:30 am in Orlando. "My plan was to go Miami the night sleep there and go to Key West next morning from Miami." I also lost my SunPass which I had like 15$ in Prius and I had to purchase another sun pass for 5$ for my new rented car. Also I suffered due to cold whole night.
I would not have mind if you had sent me the towing right away. But these guys took 4 hrs on a cold night to send towing and all my vacation was disturbed. They said, "We will compensate for all the loses." And after repeated follow ups someone named Ellen ** responded asking me to send documents of evidence that I lost motel and cruise and stuff. Now it's like 2 months, am still waiting for her response, am sending emails almost every week, no response. All I can say is this company is just very hard. Do not do business with them. I wish at least now Ellen responds and fix my issue.

TOTAL SCAM. They need to be shut down. When we arrived they instantly told us the price would be almost $100 more than what we paid on Expedia. When we asked why, they said "on Expedia they only show you the rental price for the car". Only the rental price? As opposed to what? Hidden fees? Are they seriously trying to blame Expedia? So I showed them the email confirmation from Expedia which clearly showed the rental plus tax. What other fees are there?
Read carefully: If you do not SPECIFICALLY ask them you will not realize that they are BLATANTLY adding on fees that are optional. Without telling you and without giving you the option. She automatically tried to charge us a gas charge. In other words, don't worry about filling up the tank with gas. Just bring the car back. Well anyone who has ever rented a car before knows you NEVER do this. For this "convenience" the price per gallon is exorbitant. Any self-respecting car rental agency will point out that this is an option. But these con artists automatically added it, hoping you would not realize, and trying to pass it off as something required.
The second fee they added was their optional insurance plan. Again, CLEARLY doing this without our consent. Any other rental agency would make you aware of the optional insurance, what it covers, what it does not, and the cost. Fox did NOT mention any of this. They automatically, quietly added the fee. I imagine plenty of people sign the contract at the bottom without realizing this. We have full coverage on our auto insurance and through Expedia we purchased their third party collision insurance. So I felt very comfortable declining the rental agency's upcharge.
After spending the last 11 hours traveling and arriving after midnight, the last thing we needed was having to deal with this type of crooked business. When we argued against these fees, both clerks had the audacity to act like they were offended. I find it very hard to believe that these two don't know full well what they are doing.
Oh, here's scam #2... Another nice surprise. Guess what, if you are a Florida resident and you arrive at Ft Lauderdale airport to pick up your rental, do you get a Florida Resident discount? NO! In fact it's the OPPOSITE. If you are a Florida resident they put an ADDITIONAL $500 charge on your credit card. WHY??? Is this legal? NOWHERE in the rental agreement does it say this. This is just a "thing" that they do. No explanation.
We told them this wasn't expected and we weren't going to pay it. We asked if out of state renters had to pay this fee and they said for out of state renters the authorization they put on the card is only $150. They would not let us rent the car without agreeing to a charge of over $600 on our credit card. We asked what our options were and the guy said "take an Uber". Literally. This was his reply. So that's exactly what we did. SO frustrated right now. This is bottom of the barrel. Would give 0 stars if that were possible.

This was the first trip I took without my husband. So, I went online and booked thru carrentals.com. I paid a rate of $242 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee or "like" SUV. When I checked in at San Jose airport, they had none available. So, I could choose a minivan or a Chrysler 300. They said the upgrade charge was $85 for the Chrysler 300 because the next model was a minivan. I have never driven a minivan and didn't want to try and parallel park it in San Francisco. I agreed to pay the extra charge. I looked at my credit card statement the next day and I had a charge for $672 on my MC.
So, I looked at the receipt that the guy so gladly stapled for me so I couldn't see it when I went to get my car, and he charged me for the insurance I told him I didn't want. Dirty car given to us and the gal who gave it to us simply said, "I didn't wash the car so it's dirty". In the end it's a very bad experience and you pay more than if you'd have gone with a reputable company. Don't rent from FOX!

I cancelled my reservation two days after making it because of all the company's bad reviews. They claimed that I never made the cancellation and are attempting to charge me the full price. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They are doing nothing but attempting to steal. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Please do NOT DO ANY BUSINESS with Fox Rent A Car. I did and I’m so very sorry. We flew into Fort Lauderdale without a car rental. My husband, who remained home, booked us a car through Expedia. There were very few cars available in Florida as they had recently suffered a hurricane, so we had no choice but to do business with a company we had never heard of. From the initial contact, we knew it was going to be bad. Counter clerks were rude and impatient and the a/c in the SUV didn’t work (it was 88 & 89 degrees in Miami).
While in possession of SUV, passenger door was damaged. We made company aware and gave them info regarding damage reports filed with hotel garage. When my brother and niece returned the vehicle, the clerk and manager were belligerent and demanded personal information from them. When they could not supply MY homeowners info, they would not let them leave. After more than 40 of arguing, they were allowed to leave, barely making their flight. The next day, I visited the office and had a calmer conversation with the manager on duty. We exchanged contact info and agreed to be in touch. THAT was the extent of any positive contact with Fox Rental. My INSURANCE COVERED ALL COSTS (many of which were INFLATED) EXCEPT FOR A $150.00 “Administrative Fee”. Now I’m receiving letters and phone calls (Sunday 11:30 am) threatening collection activity and a suit over a $150.00 Administrative Fee.
We traveled to Miami for our brother’s funeral. This trip was not expected or planned for. It was, as anyone can imagine, an extremely emotional and difficult trip for all of us. Our dealings with Fox and their employees served to make our trip even more difficult. And now, three months later, they continue cause pain. If anyone at Fox Rent A Car seemed worthy of an administrative fee, I would pay it without issue. No one there was worth the rental, yet alone an “Administrative Fee”. They were VERY WELL COMPENSATED for the dent in the door, their demands and threats for $150.00 more, is nothing but bully greed!

Do not rent a car from Fox. Doing the prepay is a joke!!! You would think if you prepaid there would be an express lane or something, nope you wait in line just as long (at least 15 min) as everyone else that didn't prepay. We tried renting a car from Fox the beginning of February 2018, prepaid and everything. The credit card used to prepay was compromised and closed. They refused to rent me a car unless I called customer service and get a voucher. I want to say again, THE CAR WAS PREPAID!!!
I had a credit card for incidentals, but because it was not the same they refused. So I called customer service, after sitting on the phone for 10 minutes, I got disconnected. So I called back, this time I was on hold for 20 minutes, call went through to a voicemail box that was full and told me to try my call later. Are you kidding me. At this point we had been there over an hour and was done with that place. Because they are off site, I called an Uber, went to Dollar and within 10 min I was driving away in a car. I can't believe a company with customer service like this is still in business.

I made a reservation online at foxrentacar.com. They charge me $150 deposit and the fee for the 3 day rental. When I got to the location to pick up my rental car that I was already charge for the agent at the desk told me that the deposit was $500. Show him my receipt and the terms and conditions nowhere in there did it said that my deposit was $500. They then inform me it either I put the $500 down or I could rent a car basically providing false advertising. The website say one thing then when you get there it a whole completely different things. STAY AWAY And their customer service is Horrible.
