Rented a car thru Fox Rent A Car online for a family vacation. Upon getting to the rental counter in Orlando the rental agent told me that they sold out of the vehicle that I prepaid for and was downgraded from a suv to a midsize sedan unless I wanted to pay 14 dollars more a day to get a bigger suv. Obviously that didnt sit well with me. After working and traveling all day they gave me no other option but to accept the sedan. The next day I called their customer service line and had to wait almost 2 hours to get a return call. Upon talked to the csr agent and telling him the situation he informed me that I did have a contract which I agreed with. I told him most certainly I did and he informed me there was nothing he could do. Trying to figure out why they have a csr department when they obviuosly dont care about their customers at all. One of the worst experiences I've ever dealt with. Stay far far away from them.

In last Aug, I traveled to Denver for a day, and booked a car online. To try to save my time, I prepaid the renter online. I was waiting in the rental office from 9am to 12:30pm, more than 3 hours, to get a car. Since I already paid the renter, I still picked up the car. Since too much time was wasted, I had to cancel my original plan. Then, my nightmare begin.

I was involved in an incident on the way I returned the car in hurry. Fortunately, my auto insurance covered all the damages and paid a total amount of $13,092.86 except a charge called Loss of Use. My insurance believed this charge is illegal since the Administration fee they paid already includes this cost. Also, this charge was not listed as an item in the rental lease. But, being nice to the Fox Rent A Car, I also provided them my second insurance information that was my credit card had. However, the agent Pennie ** never did her job to provide the documents my second insurance requested, instead of keeping to threaten me via email and mail. Up to today, I checked with my credit card company again, my case is still in open status to wait for documents to be sent.

Loved the rate when I booked online to Austin Tx. They put the fear in your mind about the cost of going paying Tolls. Their cheapest PRE PAID plan to cover Tolls was $58.00! Not knowing the area, we took it. Found out that Tolls were only about $1.00 each and my Son In Law said we probably went thru 1 Toll at the most. Woman at the counter told us she lived in the same town as our Hotel and that we would hit Tolls for sure.

Second, they scare you into thinking that if you don't PRE PAY the fuel at their site for $2.12/gal, you'd be sorry because off site rates were much higher. Oh really? Fueled up just outside the airport entrance on the way to return the car and it was $1.99/gal, as it was in most stations in the Austin area. Tell me? Where do these overcharges go? What a scam. They lure you in with a low rate then get you on the other side when it's time to pick up your car. Taking advantage of people from out of town who don't know any better. Never again and I'm spreading the word fast, trust me. Bret

We rented a car from Fox rental online at Airportrentals.com for pick up at Liberia Airport in Costa Rica. When we got to the airport every other rental car company had a booth except Fox. We were hustled away with our luggage to a person that had a sheet with our names and told us there were no cars available even though we had a reservation. They would drive us to our destination and we could rent a car there. They told us they had no cars and no other company had cars as it was a very busy time. And they said that if other companies did have cars they would be very expensive and try to scam us on the total cost.

We grabbed our luggage back and found another company that somehow, magically, had cars. It was Budget Rent a Car. I am surprised to read other reviews that actually rented cars from Fox as I was sure there was no real company since we couldn't find a counter, office or contact other than the people trying to scam us. Even worse is that there was still a charge for the insurance even though we never got a car. Airportrentals.com should be ashamed to allow Fox to be on their website as a legitimate company. I will deal with them next. My advice is don't try to go cheap and stay away from Fox. You get what you pay for. Stick with known national brands.

Updated on 03/03/2020: Just received yet another invoice from Fox Car Rental for a $5.76 toll charge PLUS an “administration fee” of $75.00. WHAT a joke and rip off! Do Not Rent a car from this place!!!

Original review: Rented a car in Ft. Myers. Got a flat tire. No spare in the car. Instead of arranging for another rental to be dropped off, or EVEN just to have a tire company replace the tire - they actually wanted me to travel BACK to Ft. Myers from Marco Island to exchange the car. Ended up spending an additional $100 on shuttle to catch flight back as well as numerous Uber charges for getting around without the rental. IT IS ALSO IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH ANYONE ON THE PHONE WHO HAS AUTHORITY TO DO ANYTHING. The company STINKS and Consumer Affairs should put them out of business.

Very rude and opportunist staff, trying to make you fool, does not knowing that they are very fool indeed. Black sheep of car rental sector. Unprepared, very dirty cars with very bad smell. Although I reserved a car through internet without any additional charges which are optional, they took advantage of my hurry and obligate me to sign contract with the help of pressure of waiting people behind me. After my complaint after returning car, they informed me to come to their office to correct the fault. By the way, I am living in Turkey. Very ridiculous invitation.

Another problem is, they charged to my credit card toll fees after a month, which I never used. This company is really a headache. They are trying and finding some additional expenses to charge to your credit card. This is totally illegal and unfair way of doing business. They are putting you in contradiction if it is worth to follow and lose your time looking for your few Dollars. I believe that many people is cursing and not following and losing their valuable times for few Dollars which is unfairly earned by FOX RENT A CAR. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN FOX RENT A CAR.

First off let me start off by saying that I am a flight attendant. I rent cars almost 2/3 times a month for at least 2 day. I am a reward member for all the major companies. I chose Fox in Austin Airport to rent from to save money. I rented a car in a Monday until Wednesday. I already knew that the prices at all the companies would be high. Fox was significantly cheaper. After reading some reviews online, I made sure the car was spotless when I returned. I actually went to a car wash and washed and vacuumed out the car just to make sure they wouldn’t try and charge me. When I went to return the car the representative said it reeked of smoke... Mind you, I’m still parking the car and the window is not even half way down. She fanning and everything. I’m like huh??? But she has a smile on her face.

I open the door and she just starts talking about the no smoking signs and all this and that. Since she smiling, and I know damn well I don’t smoke, I started laughing with her and got out the car because I thought she was joking. I’m lowkey in a rush because I have a flight to catch, so I go straight to the trunk to get my luggage. She then says that she’s going to have to charge me a $250 fee for smoke. I’m in shock! Because the car actually has a very strong fragrant smell from I’m guessing when Fox cleaned the car. Almost like the new car scent. When I went to the car wash, it was an automatic drive thru type with free vacuums. I didn’t spray a thing. The entire time y’all she is smiling, giggling, looking around, and just acting nervous and/or anxious.

So anyway, I go to her and ask her is she’s serious. She says, "Yes it’s strong man." And she’s literally standing there smiling fanning her face, outside in this airport garage saying, "wheww" all animated as if I just had a cigar party and cake to the airport. So at this point I am bewildered because I’m trying to make sure this is real life right now. I’m like..."Ma’am you’re joking. You can almost choke on whatever air freshener y’all previously used in this car before ma’am," which is what I said to her. She then goes to open the back door, because I had a fusion hybrid, and whilst still smiling she fans her face again as if she just got a big whoosh of smoke in her face. She says, "Sir it’s bad. It’s so smokey, my manager just went to check on more vehicles. We are going to have to charge you."

At this point I’m getting frustrated because I know damn well she’s not about to charge me for smoking, I have a flight to catch, and my feet hurt and I’m tired. She walks off hurriedly. I’m still standing there but a couple just rented a car and started to walk by. I asked them if they could smell smoke. They were shock as well because they couldn’t smell smoke at all. They actually started to get worried and decided to make a VIDEO of their car before they drove off. The Fox rep whose name I will not disclose here, came back with this same damn smile!!!! That’s what was pissing me off! Because instantly my intuition kicked in and I knew that this was some type of scam from the beginning. Like she knew she was going to try and charge me for something. Because when she came back, the issue wasn’t smoke.

She then says that she can’t re rent the car because she doesn’t RECOGNIZE THE FRAGRANCE in the car. She doesn’t think it’s a Fox product and therefore can’t re rent it. I looked at her and said, "Ma’am I have to leave and cannot miss my flight. You know that car is perfect. Don’t do me like that." She says she doesn’t know, WHILE STILL SMILING AND ALL NERVOUS, her manager will have the final say and now he’s gone for the day. I get home and see there’s a $75 detailing charge. I call Fox and waited for exactly 39 minutes. 39 minutes!!! The rep on the phone said the fee I was charged was for cleaning not for smoking. She had to email the location before she could do anything else. She said in 2 days she would call me. It’s been 7.

I called earlier and was on hold for 32 min before I was hung up on. I am currently while typing this complaint on hold and have been hold for 44 minutes. Petty I know and I’m just going to end up disputing this charge. But I’m pissed. Because the whole time like I knew it was a set up. But I couldn’t stay there to really fight it scared that I would miss my flight.

I booked rental with Fox on Expedia for San Jose, CA airport. Arrived at counter and watched the person behind the counter run my drivers license under a cell phone connected to? She informs me she need to go and get manager to find problem. I wait for 3-4 minutes. Upon her return tells me that my DL is a problem and is fake. She is contacting airport Police. I have no idea what this is all about? I have a valid DL and have never had this type of treatment from a rental car center person. When I quiz her more she tells me it is a problem with DMV. Again, what?

I ask for my DL back and walk over to the side and call my local sheriffs office back home. I am a reserve deputy sheriff. Talking with the Sheriff himself. He runs my DL (they have it on file because I drive county police cars). Tells me no issue with DMV or anything. My record is 100% clear, no tickets nothing. I go back to Fox and report this and ask what are they going to do to honor my reservation? They said nothing they can do to help me. The Payless rental person says she has cars and would be happy to help me. Fox Rental will never get my money again and I will tell everyone possible to avoid them.

We rented our car from Fox in Tampa. They had too few agents and too many people on line. It took 45 minutes to rent the car. We checked out the body of the car and pulled out. Upon getting on the highway, we noticed that the air in one tire was low, so we stopped and filled it. We then parked it at the place we were staying and then the next morning, we had a flat. We called Fox and they said it would cost us $100 to have them come out and change the tire. Then they told us to have the tire repaired at Firestone.

Firestone inspected the tire and told us it could not be repaired and was told by Fox that we would have to pay for a new tire. And they told us to have the tire changed at Firestone and then Firestone told us we would have to pay $193 for the tire. The tire had a screw embedded in it and obviously the prior renter was the guilty party but Fox had an obligation to check the air pressure on all tires before we took that car from the lot. Now Fox is insisting we pay for the tire. NEVER, NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AWFUL.

She actually said, "I see so many damaged cars come back every day." Then it was 'I can put you in an SUV for just $30 more a day - so much safer!' My friend and I are both 60+. I do NOT want to drive a big car around a strange city. She must have been on commission for the up-sales. Car was fine - comfortable, in good shape. But most annoying, when I got home they charged me another $140 with no explanation. I know it was full of gas, undamaged and on time and I can prove it with a gas receipt and a plane ticket! Rented an economy car through online source out of San Antonio January 2020. First car they gave me was unsafe to say the least. The car needed a whole lot of manual effort at the wheel to keep it in its lane and it wobbled like the wheels were about to fall off. I call customer service, am on hold for about an hour, finally accept their call back offer and wait for another 2 hours but no call back. Take the car back to the airport and to my surprise, no hassle exchange for a different car. That car ran well and the customer service during that exchange was pleasant. I thought ok I can give them a second chance. Returned the car at end of rental agreement and when I asked for a receipt was quickly waved off by the desk attendant who stated I'll get it in email. That never came.

I've tried calling customer service several times with long waits. After days of trying to reach them I finally agreed to their call back offer again. Received automated call back 20 (yes twenty!) hours later only to hear the automated voice say that I was at the top of the queue but no one was available to answer my call and line went dead. So here I am, no receipt to file my work travel claim, can't reach anyone from their company to dispute additional unexpected charges they made to my credit card, and no response back from emails. So frustrating. This has been the worst car rental experience ever. Wouldn't recommend even to my worst enemy.

When the associate tried to get the manager to help make this right he repeatedly wandered off and avoided the situation eventually telling me “the only vehicles they had left was a Chrysler 300c and a Jeep Wrangler”. I don’t know how either one of them are considered a reasonable alternative to a convertible Camaro. Because I booked it thru Priceline they would not refund my money so I could go elsewhere and get the car I wanted. They did absolutely nothing to make this right. In the end all they did was say sorry. Very poor experience. Will not be returning.

I rent cars regularly for work. Having a great deal of experience in customer service I consider myself as someone who is fair in their assessments when looking at other companies. This is our second time renting from them and normally I would not complain to this extent but after the past few hours I feel that this needs to be posted. We rented a car in Tampa and I will say the gentleman at the desk was nice and helpful. Normally that would deem 2 stars but the experience with the car and their phone service was beyond awful. We received our rental in Tampa airport and because it was late and we had to drive 45 minutes to our hotel we did our walk around for the physical damage inspection and then got in. Once we pulled out from the airport we started to notice a fishy odor so we opened the windows in hopes of not wanting to be picky and thinking it would help.

We decided to stop at Walmart before going to our hotel to get a Febreze spray which did not help. The next day when we got into the car the smell was still bad like rotting fish and urine. We called the customer service line to ask if they could send us a replacement but they said only if something was wrong with the vehicle that would cause it to not work. We told the women that we read online that a fish smell can be from antifreeze and she responded that she would have to send us to roadside assistance. We had to wait again on hold. Meanwhile we rented this vehicle for an enrollment at a company that one of us inevitably misses an hour of work from a job that is 100% commission.

When roadside assistance picked up they told me they could said someone to look at it but if nothing was physically wrong with the car then we would have to pay the towing costs. We called back customer service and asked for a manager and said that we thought a business would be more concerned about the fact that its customers could be breathing in antifreeze or mold and that we could have potential clients in the car, later in the week children, etc. His response was that he would call the airport location and tell them to reach out but they probably would have to let us know a time and date we could come by to switch the car out but they would not bring 1 to switch out.

We have never been so disgusted with service or a product. We are probably breathing in toxins and still have not heard anything back. We are on our 5th call back and have no solution. Do not rent from this company for the sake of your health. We are under the impression they do not clean the vehicles. The cheap rate is not worth the risk. The hidden fees, the numerous long waits, and lack of customer service is beyond disappointing. We hope we do not get sick.

They told me no refunds, even though I called a minute after booking due to the error. After MANY phone calls, they let me re-book it at FLL. They told me AND send me an email that they are off site, so I would not have wanted to use them. However, when I showed up to the airport, I Was pleasantly surprise that they were on site. Still, I was SO stressed about lugging my kids and family through the airport and shuttle to get the rental car.

We had to wait in line for over 45 minutes to get the rental car. There were only 3 people in front of us. We had to wait at the exit as well. It was over an hour from when we first got in line until we could actually leave. Lastly, they took money from my security deposit ("only" $9) and wouldn't explain what it was from. They said there was nothing being taken from it but that they were only giving me back part of the deposit. I have receipts that I paid everything and there's no damage to the car. The person at the return couldn't explain it to me. She just told me to call. So I called - and as you guessed it, I had to wait on the phone for a while. I am STILL waiting to talk to someone. Only a matter of time until you go out of business with these types of business practices.

Rented a car from them in Orlando. Waited over 45 minutes for their shuttle to show up. Called their customer service line numerous times and always had "more than 10 people in front of you". Never did talk with anyone. Arrived at their location and waited almost 2 hours in line for a car that I had booked and paid for 2 months prior. Once we finally got the car it had a horrific smell. Being late at this point I figured we could run the a/c and open the windows to dissipate it. That did not work. We tried everything the next morning including Extra Strength Fabreeze and a vent air freshener but to no avail. I traded it in 2 days later while passing thru for another vehicle. Both cars were not clean on the inside and neither had windshield washer fluid. The windows were not clean and hard to see out. Cheaper is not always better. Stay with the big boys and avoid Fox at all costs.

They said no, I had to be first driver and they would add him on at 12.99 a day, more than the day charge for first person. This brought the fee up another $100.00. It took over an hour once we got to the counter as person kept having problems and losing information. I had to finally go sit down by door. When we left they would not let us mark all the scratches. Also sat at exit building for 20 minutes while they had two cars turn around and pull out of line. They said mark the scratches and bring back with us when checking out. This did not even make sense and made me nervous.

We marked the scratches when checking out a week later and the guy just said, "We don't need that". If we had dented any place I'm not sure what would have happened. We were only going to use the car a couple times so thought the price was good. We were right down at Tahiati Village so not much driving. I am 76 years old so don't drive in places like Las Vegas. It cost as much as renting right at airport. They just pointed us to a car with no instructions. Had to get booklet out just to get out of Rental place as had not used a car with no key. Professionalism and knowledge was non-existent. Use well known rental places. You will get professionals and courtesy.

My husband rented a car for our 25 yr old daughter in Austin TX, a few months ago. She was hit by another driver, and the other driver immediately admitted fault and bystanders were so nice to wait with her until police came, etc. Other driver had USAA insurance and they took a while to pay. My daughter has been getting threatening letters about sending her to collections, in the meantime.

Now, USAA had paid, but Fox says there's a balance of $787. What?? For what? We have never received a breakdown of costs, so this could be totally arbitrary!! They say you are liable for any damage, regardless of whose fault it is. My daughter declined the insurance at time of rental, because we have coverage through our credit card. But they are saying regardless of fault, and regardless of how much they choose to charge for a repair, and regardless of if the at-fault party's insurance pays the whole amount, the renter has to pay the rest - without question! This is just plain wrong. We will NEVER rent from FOX again. Beware!!!

When we picked up the car, it seemed okay. Quite a few up-charges, but that is what it is. I had left my partner and two preschoolers waiting for me so that I could go pick up the rental from the other side of the airport. I drove back to the terminal to pick them up, and the car stopped working. Okay, I figured. I’ll call roadside assistance while I run back to the other side of the airport and leave the kids in the car with my partner for a few minutes while I go tell them what happened and get something different.

Management (Mike) was a total nightmare. No empathy. No solutions. Just “wait for roadside assistance and then we can look at the car and decide what to do.” How long until it would arrive? No clue. I had had the car for 5 minutes. I was still on airport property. I had two little kids sitting in a broken down vehicle in an illegal parking spot. Their customer service department had a perfectly reasonable solution of having a staff member coming over to the car in another vehicle and taking possession and waiting for their tow, and trading my family out another working vehicle. Mike stated to me, “why would we do that?”

So, my kids sat in a hot car sleeping for 3 and a half hours while I waited for their tow truck. At which point we couldn’t even be brought straight to the rental office. We had to ride with him to the tow center, take our car seats out, Reinstall them into another car. Get a ride back. Take the car seats out. Get a different car. Reinstall car seats. Finally. Finally. After 4 and a half hours, leave the airport.

Honestly, all the other people working there were perfectly pleasant. The manager is not, and should not have a job making any decisions about customer service. We will not spend our money on this company again, and we will make sure others know our experience so they can make informed decisions for themselves. Trust the 2 stars the company has. It’s obviously for a reason.

However upon returning the vehicle they charged 4.04 per gallon for a full tank and I turned it in with a half tank. If I had not specifically asked the rental agent about how the price of 3.59 was figured, I would have accepted that I did not understand the agreement.

When I contacted the billing department there was a long hold and the recording indicated they would call back when the next agent was available. Three hours later a call came to me. Then over 20 minutes waiting to talk to someone. After explaining my concern they were switching me to the billing department and then hung up on me. I called back and held for another 15 minutes before someone came on the line and really irritated me with an attitude “that is what I agreed to.” I asked for a supervisor and the reps name and was refused on both matters. Unfortunately, during my company’s business trip, my team had a very unpleasant experience with FOX-RENT-A-CAR! We reserved the car online, for pick up at the airport in Miami, FL at 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 15th. Mohammed was the associate that assisted us on pick up. He offered us an insurance coverage, but we informed him that we do not need that because we are fully covered by our credit card company. We just want to sign up for the “Plate Pass.” Mohammed added the “Plate Pass,” and asked us to sign electronically, while carrying on a conversation.

Two weeks later, we have received an invoice for an unpaid balance on the rental. The unpaid balance was for the insurance coverage that we clearly declined, but was added to our invoice without our knowledge. We have attempted to dispute the charge but FOX Rent-A-Car is not cooperating and has threatened to send us to a credit collection service. SHEEN Magazine have been in business for more than 13 years. We regularly rent cars nationwide several times a month. We never had any problems or disputes with any car rental companies we’ve worked with in the past. We are very disappointed and upset with Fox-Rent-A-Car. Fox Rent-A-Car has been known for terrible services and misleading practices by overcharging their unlucky customers. This is the first and will be the LAST time we will rent a car through them.

I did book this through Expedia and paid for extra insurance. We were supposed to have a mini-van (listed as Dodge Caravan or equivalent). Upon arriving, I walked to Fox to pick up the rental. I was given a Kia minivan which was ok. The counter clerk told me a total that was $75 more than what I reserved it for AND made me pay an extra $100 as a deposit. She then proceeds to tell me that I have to pay for insurance (which I declined).

I showed her my booking and where I had already paid for the insurance AND that the price I reserved it for was $75 less. She wouldn’t do anything to honor it. She pawned me off on someone else to inspect the van. I made sure to point out every ding and made him note them. I leave, drive over to the airport to pick up the rest of my family. Literally put my hand on the handle to open the sliding door and it fell off!!! I hadn’t been gone 20 minutes. So, I drove back to Fox. Went in and told another counter rep what had happened. He goes and talks to one person and they threw their hands up and walked away. Then he goes to talk to another person in an office where I can see them laughing! They both walk out and the “manager” says “I have bad news. You’re going to have to pay for this.” Umm, no I’m not.

I told him I had not been gone 20 minutes and that a handle shouldn’t fall off in my hand just by being touched. He walks off comes back and says “it’s still under warranty so, it will be covered”. Fine. Great. Can I please get a vehicle or a refund?!? They tell me that they don’t have any more minivans. Ok, you can come me and put me in one of the SUVs you have sitting on the lot. Of course they wouldn’t do that. (Enterprise, Avis, budget all of these companies would have done this!) The next thing I know, they give me keys to some Suzuki van. It was smaller than the Kia and it was NASTY! They made no effort to offer any compensation for anything. No offer of apology. Thank God I didn’t have to drive it much. It was awful! Never again will I rent from a Fox Rental! I’ll pay a taxi service before Fox gets any of my money again.

However, I was not in a rush so I had no complaint with this and immediately drove to a station and put gas in. I returned the car with more gas in it than I had received and, again, I had no complaint as I regarded this as fair.

However, my account was charged $7.99/gallon gas charge resulting in $67 of added charge. When I spoke to their customer service, the rep stated “Do you have any proof the tank was empty when you received and returned car with more gas in it than you received?” This created a bad impression that I was dealing with a cynical employee who was implying my statements were false. After contesting this disposition and stating I owned my own business and received customer complaints with assumption they were in good faith. She then returned to the line with offer they would charge fair market value $3/gallon and I declined her offer.

It was not the money that was the source of my complaint - it was the principle of being charged for gas when I returned the car with more gas in it than I received. In the end - I regard this as low level theft, similar to experience of a finding out a casual friend/associate is a petty thief. I feel sorry for them they conduct themselves in such a small manner, but I disassociate from them and advise others to beware of low level thief.

I rented a car from Fox Rent a Car at the San Diego airport. I was told by the agent, and it was stated on the written contract, to return the car at the assigned date & time. I did so, but was charged a late fee because I had picked up the car a couple of hours earlier than expected. I informed Fox that the agent and the contract noted the return date & time and that I had complied. Fox's response was "Too bad, you should have read the fine print which allows us to charge you late fees." I complained and was told by the manager, "Go ahead and sue us." I had to submit a legal demand letter to Fox to finally get my fees returned. Terrible customer treatment!

We reserved a RAV4 months in advance to pick up in Tampa, FL. The RAV4 was not available and they offered a sedan in its place. We needed the SUV space for a large box we were carrying. After much delay and "going to the manager" we got a Dodge Journey. It was filthy with white paint splatter all over the black vehicle. The inside of the windshield was so dirty we had to stop to clean it so that we could see. The vehicle was unsafe to drive, requiring constant attention to the steering which wandered. The vehicle also used almost twice the fuel the reserved RAV$ would have used. An email to the manager at Tampa received no reply. Several calls to the rental agency with extended wait periods ended up in the girl saying she would look at it and hung up on me. FOX has had the auto reserved 1 of 3 times we have used them...a waste of time in my opinion.

The wet car soaked our luggage, our clothes. And if that isnt bad, the car smelled like dirty wet dog. As it started to dry, it smelled like cat pee and that is after the 3 air fresheners I bought because I couldn't drive it. I used the hotel's shuttle everywhere I went because I could not tolerate the stench. And to get a hold of someone at the car rental location because you have a problem, forget it. How this company stays in business without being investigated by the Attorney General's office is unbelievable. We booked a car after a trip, for 4 days so we could visit family 3 hours away from where our cruise ended. The ship came in a little late and went to the airport where we were shuttled to their off airport location at 10 am. The look of horror was on our faces when we seen the branch completely full and people waiting outside. We got in line where we started a conversation with the person in front of us who said he had been there for a very long time and the line wasn't moving like there was no cars. They had a good 10 people working there with only a couple of people actually at the counter as if they were trying to slow down the process as cars were getting ready.

While waiting in line more people were arriving by shuttle and the line was getting longer. We made the best of it talking to the people in line and after about an hour an a half we made it to the counter and gave them our reservation confirmation number that we did through our airline company. The guy behind the counter looked at it handed it back and went in the back room to talk to someone. He came back a few minutes later and said our car had been given away since we were over 3 hours past our reservation time of 8 am which was not true, since we were there at 10 am. We tried to explain to them that nowhere in the reservation did it state a 3 hour deadline or was there anything in their service area that stated that. Besides we were there in their line long before the 3 hour expired if that was even true.

You would think that they would ask people in line if their reservation was going to be 3 hours or later and take them first to avoid cancellation if that was true. But cancelling a reservation to rebook it at a higher last minute rate seemed like the motivation for this. We asked to speak to the manager so he went back again and came back and said there was nothing he could do. Another worker asked us what we were waiting for where we said that we have waited a long time to get a car and now we were stranded at their terminal on a holiday weekend with no vehicle and we want to talk to their manager.

Well the manager finally came out with an attitude and could care less that they gave our car away. I asked them if I could get any car and he said they were out of them and I asked what about at the airport where he said there probably out as well. Nice, we had a reservation and this guy would not honor it. It was a holiday weekend so you could get more for a last minute reservation by cancelling our reservation. This should be investigated by the AG's office and a class action suit should be brought against this company for unethical business practices.

We ended up leaving, taking a shuttle back to the airport after the manager threatened us. We ended up going from place to place all being sold out but one company where we rented a car from was 4 times what we're going to pay which is what this is probably all about. I know we were not the only one there that had their car given away, due to the demand of the weekend. I contacted the main office which was a waste of time because as they say fish stink head first. I did contact the airline we rented the vehicle through and they said they would report it to their upper management. If you have similar experiences keep passing it on. Eventually the AG's office will step in and investigate this company for unfair business practices.

All the other rental places had short lines and dealt with customers quickly. We waited in line for close to 2 hours! No explanation as to the long wait times was given. When we finally got to the agent, they were not friendly at all. They had to call down to another employee to find the vehicle we booked. We then had to wait for that employee to call back, only to tell us the Jeep I booked was unavailable. We then had to wait for the employee to call back with another similar vehicle. I was pressured and made to feel guilty for not taking their extra insurance coverage. The entire process at the desk took another half hour.

When we went down to the parkade to get the vehicle, we greeted by another unfriendly and unhelpful employee. They did not explain how to note existing damage and after finding the vehicle I had to wait in line again to report the existing damage. This was the worst experience I have ever had and will definitely not be renting from them again!!

Don't rent from here. When reserving my basic sedan rental I was quoted $82 for two days (same drop off/pick up) which I paid in full at check in, PLUS a $150 deposit. After dropping off my vehicle 36 hours later, I received a receipt that only credited back $75 of my deposit. The fees outlined in this receipt were the same line items I already paid for in the $82.

Apparently the first price is an "estimate." I drive a total of 64 miles in two days and stayed local in Chicago. The cost nearly DOUBLED with zero transparency. I've never spent that much on a rental this basic before. Customer service has been a chase - over an hour and a half waiting on the phone, a "live chat" feature with no live chat reps - it was really just an email request form, and zero confirmations in my inbox when I submit to that chat feature and also email directly in about my issues.

I shopped around and Fox seemed to offer a good deal - $24.79 for 6 days. $144.76. I appreciate that there are always additional fees, but my total came to $283 for a real cost of almost $48 per day -- almost double what was advertised. My initial total bill was even higher but they agreed to waive the early delivery fee of $20. Since when is there an early delivery fee? That, however, did not eliminate the $8.41 late fee. Mind boggling. I don't mean to quibble about small amounts, but I couldn't believe some of the "hidden charges," that couldn't be explained. Like others have stated, I was badgered to take insurance for $20 per day which would have been an additional $120.

I had the presence of mind to INSIST on not taking it, but only after an argument with the sales person who emphasized I was making a big mistake. Worn down by this, I stupidly agreed to the pre-paid gas -- which also was a sham and something that he outright lied about. Don't do pre-paid gas. When I called customer service to inquire about the bill, which made no sense, the representative was rude and curt. I have rented from other companies in the past and while the cost may be a few more dollars, it was worth it. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND Fox.

We ended up leaving with the vehicle paying another $500 American on top of what we rented it for.

They convinced us to buy their toll pass for $53 and we only went through o one toll that we could have paid $1.25 for but we were unfamiliar with the area so they sucked us into the pass even though we told them we are not staying in Orlando. We returned the vehicle early (a day before) there is also a $25 penalty to return it early. We asked if they can drive us back to airport that was a 3 minute drove. They said no. Avoid at all cost! Renting from this “organization” will lead you down a horrific road of regret and utter disbelief. (They do not have any customer service and/or a corporate contact). Be very careful or else you’ll end up in a horrible situation as we have. We have been getting harassed by one of their representatives (Pennie **) for over 5 months now. We were unfortunately in an accident, but we’re fully covered by one of the largest and most reputable insurance companies in the world. However this fact doesn’t seem to matter as our condescending harassment from (Pennie **) has persisted.

She has claimed our insurance company “didn’t pay.” Once we inquired, they provided proof that they did in fact pay. However not the amount she was inquiring for, as her initial inquiry was for a different amount, the amount that was paid immediately. With this being said, and to reiterate, they merely paid the amount requested by rep (Pennie **). Now she claims that didn’t in fact happen, that she had always requested the second amount, that our insurance company was “lying.” Very unprofessional and a serious claim to be made.

After being harassed endlessly, continuously called liars, and told our insurance company was lying as well. We contacted our company to see why the remainder had not yet been paid/received. They ensured us they had tried contacting the rep (Pennie **) multiple times to no avail. Which seemed to be more of the truth, especially after the disgusting demeaning way in which the rep (Pennie **) had spoken with us.

The rep (Pennie **) just called me again, claiming the same lack of communication from our company, and insisting we must pay out of pocket as the insurance company still hadn’t paid “full amount.” At wit's end, I finally had enough and told her this was harassment! That she needed to correspond between our insurance, and needed to stop speaking to us in a belittling condescending manner. She went off, calling me a liar and our company liars and then laughed about how she (Pennie **) was sending my info to collections, and that while have 5 days to pay for it.

She was getting gratification by harassing, demeaning and threading to harm our credit. I have contacted our insurance company yet again, who immediately apologized, and mentioned they have continued to contact the rep (Pennie **) to resolve/pay the remainder, but she won’t return their calls. I personally believe from my dealings with rep (Pennie **), that she may be a little off, and not well educated/trained. That maybe she’s just very confused. Either way, the fact that she’s trying to negatively slight out credit, is alarming. We have also reached out to our attorney to see what we can do to protect ourselves from this disgruntled employee?

Waited for shuttle from terminal to rental cars for over 45 minutes, during which all other rental car companies had multiple shuttles arriving. Called Fox rental car's 800 number and was on hold entire time as i was in a long queue. Small shuttle finally arrived and was only big enough for 10 people of the 30+ that were waiting at that point. Arrived at Fox rental car facility to find huge line. Unfriendly check in ensued, then arrived at Mitsubishi vehicle with entire passenger side dented and scratched. Not a big deal but with a full fleet why not take it out of service and repair it? Decided by that point to never rent from Fox again.

Received credit card bill weeks later with $78 for tolls and fees, outlining the tolls I was expecting as $18, and $60 in fees ($15 x 4 tolls). That is ridiculous to charge those fees for two reasons. One, I was not told there would be fees at check in. Two, I've used other rental car companies at the same airport that do not charge extra fees or as steep of fees for tolls. Fox has lower cost rentals comparatively so I'm guessing they can justify their $15/toll fees and poor customer service by saving their dwindling customer base a few bucks on the daily rental cost. In summary, will never rent from Fox again and completely dissatisfied with overall experience.

Updated on 11/22/2019: After I left a one-star review, Fox contacted me and asked for renting information. I thought Fox felt guilty and would refund some money but I only got a mail telling me to pay 8-dollar Golden Gate Toll plus 15-dollar administrative fee. So, the daily expense of renting Fox was 110 plus 7.5 dollars if you went by Golden Gate. The thing is that another renting car company cost me only 40 dollars per day (included gas). And they paid the toll for us without any extra administrative fee. Conclusion: Never use Fox and tell your friends about this.

Original review: The price online for a SUV shows 26 per day. Then when I paid and arrived at the airport to pick up the car, they asked me to pay insurance for the car, insurance for the driver, gasoline, airport taxes (5 taxes), roadside assist (provided no assist at all), etc. Altogether I paid more than $160 for two day's use of the SUV. And deposited $150.

When I returned the car, they charged more than $50 for a quarter of gasoline on the deposit. The staff didn't bother to provide any help when I had difficulty putting the car in line. When I called the customer service, I had to wait more than 20 minutes since there were always more than 10 calls ahead. Ironically, when I was on hold I heard Fox kept on saying it aims to provide the best service. Well, save the service for yourself--more than $110 per day.

Our Priceline package included a rental car from Fox. We noticed that our pick up time was scheduled for 10 a.m. Our plane was not landing until 12:45 p.m. We contacted Fox from the airport as soon as we landed and we were instructed to catch the shuttle. After standing in line, we arrived at the counter at 1:15 p.m. and the agent told us our reservation was cancelled at 1 p.m. because they have a 3 hour window. Now, away from the airport rental places, we had to negotiate a new rental. The agent reviewed our cancelled reservation and said they did not have comparable cars. Our Priceline rental was for a compact SUV for 4 days. We discuss the least expensive option for a 4 day rental and asked what the total would be for 4 days. Agent said our costs would be approx. $157, plus a $150 deposit. We agree to that and sign all of our documents on the kiosk.

The kiosk never gives you your return date to initial. The contract was then printed and we were given keys to a Hyundai Compact SUV (but remember they didn't have any comparable vehicles). Before leaving the counter, we inquire again about the exact time the car needs to be returned on Monday, September 30th. The agent said it needs to be returned as close to the time as possible because early and late returns are assessed fees. On Sunday, September 29th, we pull the contract to verify what time the car needs to be returned on Monday and are shocked to see the return date was Saturday. My husband returned the car on Monday and could not speak with someone about the error before we had to catch our flight.

I have sent Fox two separate messages to their "contact us" and have received no response (it's been over 30 days). I spoke with their customer service and was told "we should have read the contract." I have filed a dispute with my credit card and Fox responded "but you signed our contract". Nowhere I signed on their kiosk did it show a return date of 9/28/2019. Their agent tells you what your signature is verifying and September 28th was never discussed. Their practices are disreputable. I travel often for work and have never had trouble with a rental company and have not been assessed fees for an early return.

You have to wait for the shuttle in a specific location, so it would be nice to have that information somewhere on their website. It also took 15 minutes of waiting, and I wasn't sure so I tried calling the company to ask when the shuttle was coming but I wound up waiting on the phone for 10 minutes before hanging up. The driver was very nice and an honest guy.

When I got to the desk to get the car, they encouraged me to let them fill up the tank upon my return at "less than the price that you would pay at a gas station," but they didn't tell me that I was buying a full tank of gas regardless of how much I actually used. They also encouraged me to buy insurance, which I found out later that I should have called my regular car insurance company to check ahead of time because they cover rental cars anyway. I told them that I already have normal car insurance, but they convinced me to buy insurance for the vehicle anyway. The people at the desk were nice.

So if they try to sell you cheap gas and insurance, say no, and be aware of when and where the shuttle comes. It seemed like the other rental companies had more shuttles running - I saw the Hertz bus come three times before the Fox came - but if you plan your schedule accordingly it's not a big deal. The people at the company were nice, but I did feel like I got swindled a little bit and could have avoided it if I had known.

Hopefully this review helps you save some money and avoid the mistakes I made! I wound up paying $100 total instead of the $35 that I thought I was going to pay, but I could have only paid $35 if I had known these things ahead of time. Honestly, I will probably use Fox Rent-a-Car again next time I visit Denver because it was convenient and easy, and the extra money that I paid was partly my own fault for not knowing ahead of time what to expect. I'm sure other rental companies try to get you to do the same thing with gas and insurance.

Second time I rent a car from this company while travelling to the Dominican Republic. Note that this review if for the locations in Punta Cana and Santiago. The aforementioned were great. They picked us up at the airport, gave us a great deal on two cars and dropped us off at our hotel, after we had ended our 3 day rental with them. Their service was excellent. I will continue to rent from them whenever I am in the country and will definitely recommend to friends/family.

Worst Experience I've ever received from any company period. I rented a car ahead of time online & paid for it. Online showed me I had a remaining amount of $33 I could pay upon arrival. When I got there I ended up having to pay over $500 more, so it equalled out over $700 for our rental for the week. They could tell me what I paid, but not what all the expenses went towards. The vehicle I had requested wasn't available so they "upraised us for free" Then we were told our vehicle was ready so we went out to put our bags in it & they had to take it back to get gas. As they were retrieving gas out of another car to put in ours we were not allowed to go anywhere near it. Very sketchy place and people. Would highly NOT recommend.

I waited half hour to get to the counter to get the car rental process. After they charged my money and go outside to wait for the guy to give me the car I booked weeks ago, he said there is no Jeep Wrangler and showed me other normal SUV cars. Hey, If I need a normal SUV, why don't I just use my own car and come to you?? You don't have that car then why do you post it online said this car is available? If you don't have that car, why don't you tell me at the counter? It is the morning at 9am. Aren't you supposed to prepare all the cars that your customers booked? Do you understand what is reservation? And the guy's attitude is extremely bad, seems like my fault not picking one of those car he provided. And he didn't go to talk with his crew and told me to talk with the counter.

WHAT is the problem with this company? And i need to wait another half hour to wait the staff who went into office for a break or what....comes out to cancel my order. If I don't persuade the other staff to ask him out, i don't know how long i need to wait for get my refund. And now i just found out they didn't give me the whole refund. Car not ready at Salt Lake City Airport when I went to pick it up. After about an hour, we got a car that sounded like it was going to fall apart. Then it did! We were on the highway and had a tire blowout on a Sunday in UT. Nothing was open. I called Fox and they said, "Sorry, you didn't purchase protection so we cannot help you." I should have called an Uber then but foolishly called a tow truck. I was towed to the place Fox told me to go, but that guy never heard of Fox so I had to be towed again to a dealer which opened the next day. Then I had to get a hotel room.

Car was looked at by mechanics and they said I needed a brand new tire becasue the one on the car was well beyond repair. I bought it for $260. Then the mechanic said do not drive this car, it's unsafe. He told me other tires were ready to blow and advised me to drive right back to Fox (SLC Airport) because there were no other Fox outlets anywhere near me. I took it back and rented another vehicle from Enterprise. Unfortunately Fox will not pay for the tire. I am out $260 for a tire I don't have and on a car that should have been deemed safe prior to its being rented. AVOID FOX AT ALL COSTS.

It was about a one hour wait (after a cross-country flight) to have another minivan found and cleaned up for use. No notifications were made about toll services and no opportunities to use electronic toll transponders, etc. were given or warnings about how to pay tolls. Upon returning home, we received a bill for the tolls and were charged a $15 for service fee for each toll charge on top of the toll itself.

When I made the reservation my total price for three days car rental came to $150.00. I had the confirmation number and the total price which I had to pay at the car company. When I got there in Las Vegas office. They were asking for $400.00 dollars for the three days rental and another $150.00 dollars refundable for the deposit.

When I asked how the 3 days rental came to $400.00 dollars, all of a sudden the agent behind the desk got so nasty telling me that I had added all this extras like 3 baby car seats, navigation, Sirius radio and so on. I showed him my paperwork and told him," I don't even have baby. Why should I even request for the car seats." He answer was, "That's why you shouldn't go through a third person party to get a rental, they are the one requested for all these extras." After my complain to the manager holding me there for a good an hour to try to clear all the extras, I got the car. People the car was so filthy and stinky. Truly after what we went though at the desk, we just decided to keep the filthy car because there was no more time to waste going to another car rental. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They are malicious and unprofessional. This is why.... This was my sister's first time renting a car so she found the staff were sneaky with responses about costs. They were actually very abrupt and rude when on our return we complained about cruise control not working and the inability of the third row of seats to be folded down in our rental Dodge Caravan. This was the reason we ordered a van. She was also told their gas was twenty cents a gallon cheaper and not to bring the van in full. This was a partial truth.

My sister's knowledge of how much it costs to fill the van is from personal experience (she usually brings her own van down but this time we flew). A 'fill up" is about $20.00. They convinced my sister to pay the $45. fee in advance for them to fill it for us. She didn't pick up on this fact until we returned the vehicle. The Shuttle driver did not assist anyone with getting luggage into vehicle for return to airport even though I have a disability and use a cane to get around and we are both seniors.

When we arrived at the airport the shuttle driver told us that everyone was to depart the shuttle at the first stop as it was for ALL airlines. Again, no help with anyone's luggage, he didn't get out of his seat. He left in a great rush; just as we found out we needed a different terminal which was a twenty minute walk away. We yelled and waved to stop him but he ignored us. Another car rental company's staff helped us out by loading our luggage onto his shuttle and taking us to the proper terminal. I would not recommend Fox Rent a Car to anyone. They are malicious and unprofessional. I wish I could remember the name of the rental car agency that helped us out, I just remember it was a well known brand name agency. Hope this review is helpful to anyone renting a car in Orlando.

Called to fix the reservation time. No problem, said it would only be $15 more. Ended up being charged for an entire day. Ok I agreed. The rep at the desk was extremely rude and not very accommodating. I didn’t have my credit card that I had charged the car to but I did have a credit card on me. Said I couldn’t have to jeep because of it. Gave me a crappy Mitsubishi that was NOT comparable. And I still paid the higher price. He then told me that I would go through toll roads and I should but the coverage since they don’t have tollbooths. Ok that’s fine. I wasn’t happy at this point so I agreed and left.

Now it’s 1 1/2 weeks after I returned the car and I receive a notice that I owe for tolls. $9.30!!! No problem. But they’re tacking on $30 fee. Absolutely not. I don’t remember going through any toll roads but again I’m from out of state and maybe I did. I have no problem paying the tolls but for them to pocket $30 is insane. From start to finish my experience with Fox was horrible. I will never rent from them again or recommend them. I will always use a more reputable company. We will never rent from Fox again. Not impressed. We arrived by shuttle from the Denver International Airport to pick up our vehicle. We needed to be at our location by 5:00 for my daughter's wedding rehearsal, and we had a 45-minute drive (at minimum, not accounting for traffic or being in unfamiliar territory). Waited in line for 30 minutes or longer, while only a couple of employees waited on this line of 15-20 people - 4 or 5 other employees just kept walking back and forth and did NOTHING to help move the line along. In fact, we could hear them all laughing and talking in the next room (break room, I guess).

We had reserved a small, economical car - and instead were given a gas-guzzling SUV as an "upgrade" for keeping us waiting. Allegedly the vehicle had a full tank. It did NOT - only 1/4 full! We then got stuck in traffic and were stressed the whole time thinking we might run out of gas! When we FINALLY arrived at our destination nearly on fumes, we had missed the wedding rehearsal. Again, NOT impressed!!!

When we dropped the vehicle off, that process was faster, BUT very confusing and not clearly explained where and how to do so. When questioned why the tank wasn't full, we explained we were returning it with MORE than it had when we left (about half a tank). Offered to show a picture we had taken of the mileage and 1/4 tank of gas, about 15 miles away after we left with it originally, but the attendant said that wasn't necessary. We were given one price upon reserving the car, and then our credit card was charged more than double that price! Again, NOT impressed and will never rent from Fox again. We will go with a more familiar service, such as Avis or Hertz. We would never recommend Fox to anyone.

This situation with the company Fox is pathetic. What they are charging was supposedly a deposit that would be refunded upon return of the vehicle. When I went to talk to the manager in turn, she apologized and informed me that he would not charge me for the bad service. I Pay more than I agree, they charged my credit card the deposit. The most horrible experience ever. Waited 25 mins for the Fox shuttle to pick us up at the airport. Finally got to my car; put the windows down to air it out because of some gawdawful scent. Drove about 10 feet, tried to put the windows up and, of course, the front passenger window won't go up. Have to park the car; unload my luggage because the car was no longer secure with a window being all the way opened. Went back inside, explained the situation, got a new car. "Spot 28."

I go to Spot 28 and the car doesn't match. Key won't work. Have to UNLOAD my car again, walk back into the building and explain that I can't find the car. Very rude man at the counter said the key won't work because it's keyless. I said, IT'S A DIFFERENT BRAND CAR IN THE SPOT THAN WHAT'S LISTED ON THE KEY TAG. Finally, a very nice worker who saw how upset I was went to get the car for me. After 10 minutes, he brought it to me. I said, "Where was it?" He said "SPOT 48. There's a language barrier issue here." Car worked fine for the week I had it.

Returning the car, you have to drive to the back of the building. Walk about a quarter mile from the lot, inside the huge building to get the shuttle. Driver not in sight. Halfway full shuttle. Have to load my luggage on myself. Driver comes. Gets us to the airport. DOESN'T UNLOAD ONE PIECE OF LUGGAGE FOR ANYONE. This took place on Tuesday October 8 at 2:30 p.m. Shuttle everyone off at the same spot regardless of your airlines. Had to walk another half mile or so to get to the Southwest gate. And by the way, do not take your car back with no fuel and think they will charge you just a slight above the normal rate of gas to refill it. Thankfully, I prepaid, but the man checking out behind me was charged over $150 for gas at $7.99 a gallon. NEVER, EVER, EVER RENT A CAR FROM FOX CAR RENTAL!!!!

The first time I rented from Fox Rent A Car in Salt Lake City. They just left us sitting at the airport. We ended up having to rent from another company for a lot more than we planned on. The second time we ended up waiting for close to an hour before they pick us up. Everything went pretty good other than the Jeep being totally dirty. I had to go wash it once I got it. Not a super big deal. When I returned the jeep I told and showed the people at the office that the jeep had five bad tires and one of them had a knot on it and was shaking pretty bad. Three weeks later I'm back in Salt Lake getting another jeep. This time we were left 45 min before we got picked up. A guy standing with us ended getting a Uber. Once we got to the office it took another 45 min to get the paperwork done and there was only two ladies ahead of me. I told the lady about my last rental and i wanted a Jeep in good safe shape. She said she was going to put me in one.

After I get the key and walk out and find it I was shocked to find out I was being put in the same Jeep but with only 4 bad tires now BECAUSE THE ONE I TOLD THEM ABOUT HAD BLOWN OUT AND WAS NOW IN THE SPOT FOR THE SPARE. So I go back in and get another jeep. It had 5 good tire but was totally dirty. I ended up finding an old sandwich under the seat on the second day after smelling something bad that was totally rotten with mold all over it. And it had no key FOB to lock and unlock the jeep without setting off the alarm. So when we get to the campground I could not lock my stuff up without setting off the alarm horn.

We were there to photograph wild life and was getting up early 4:30-5:00 so every morning I would set the alarm off. After 5 day the park staff came to us and told us we had to stop setting the alarm off or we had to leave. We end up being asked to leave because the horn went off again. We ended up having to spend most of a day trying to find another campground to stay in. Once I got back the same women was working. I told her about all the problems we have had and she said, "OH WELL. RENT FROM SOMEONE ELSE!!!!" So I will for now on. One of the women in front of me also had problems. The first car they gave her was wrecked in the front end fender and the second car had a dead battery. They told her to not worry about it. It would charge. They sent a women out at 11:30 at night in a car they had no idea what was wrong with it. PRETTY SAD!!!!

We booked thru Travelocity for a trip to Salt Lake for my nephew's wedding. Travelocity had an ad for Fox rental, stated "Premium 2 or 4 door car. Dodge charger or similar". Total price 133.86 for 10/3/2019-10/6/2019. Not bad. We took the bait and booked it with our flight. Wanted a premium car as we were going to my nephew's wedding and were asked to ferry people from nearby parking lot to wedding. When we arrived at Salt Lake airport we found out we had to catch van to "off site location". When we arrived at Fox location we were about 5th couple in line. Lots of others in office that really looked mad or unhappy.

When our turn came I approached the counter and told the agent we had a reservation for a "premium car". He actually laughed and said, "We don't have any premium cars." I told him we had made a reservation 3 months prior for a "premium car" thru travelocity and tried to show him the receipt. He refused it and said "we have no premium cars". Then he offered anything else on the lot for the same price so I asked what they have. I was told they had Jeep Wranglers, a jeep grand cherokee and some compacts. By this time, or when he laughed at my initial statement, I was very, let's say dissatisfied. They were a ways from the airport, which I'm guessing was intentional, so I opted for the "grand cherokee" because they're usually nice. Went out to do the damage report and saw another gentleman doing the same to the same vehicle.

After discovering they had rented us both the same vehicle I opted to let him have it since he was in line before us. After about 15 minutes they came over and told me, "Ok you can have your vehicle" so I went to the lot and found the only charger there and filled out the damage report and returned. I was told "oh that isn't rentable" although it had just been returned. They had taken the "grand cherokee" from the other gentleman and given it to me. I did the damage report again and returned to the counter. They would not give me any rental paperwork and told me if I get pulled over to have the officer call them. WOW red flags started going off. Being in a tight situation and far from the airport and short on time I took it. Prior to this they had told me I would use their fuel and would not have to fill on return. Not my "first rodeo"! Had to fight them for not buying a full tank, which is what they charge" since I would be using less than half a tank.

We got into the vehicle, which smelled of cigarette smoke almost enough to make you puke and discovered it was a bare bones model of jeep laredo. My time constraints would not allow me to do anything but drive. The driver's seat was a manual with a lever on the front to slide it back and a lever for recline of the backrest. I was sitting on the floor and couldn't imagine a shorter person, I'm 6' 4", trying to drive this. The cigarette stench was bad enough we had to have the windows to try to breathe. There was also a small piece of cardboard in the driver's vent that put out an incredibly intense perfume smell. That coupled with the cigarette stench made this unusable to shuttle people going to a wedding.

I forgot to mention that when I found out they had no premium vehicle they told me we could have any car on the lot for the same price. When I found the "grand cherokee" was rented the next best was what appeared to be a decent jeep wrangler. Now I was told it would cost extra. I'm a pretty sizeable man and immediately told "NO IT WON'T"! By this time I was extremely mad! Then the "grand cherokee" suddenly became available. We left their lot shall I say "less than satisfied"!

By the time we got to our destination we were sick of the stench! We started to try to clean the vehicle ourselves and found garbage and rancid fruit and other food under the seats. Disgusting to say the least!. We took photos of everything. Before we turned it in we took photos of the mileage and fuel gauge with the Fox sign in the background because this company had proven itself to be completely crooked and dishonest and wanted no hidden charges! When I got home I immediately checked my credit card account and found they had charged me over $280.00. Disputed charges with credit card co. and travelocity and Fox. We'll see how things turn out. I will prevail! Guaranteed!

When we got the rental car, we wasn't notified that it takes a WEEK OR TWO to get our credit card off hold. This put my husband and I in such a bad position because we couldn't use our credit card to rent another vehicle while we was there, and it caused us to be stranded in Atlanta Hartsfield airport. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau (documents attached). I will follow up with Yelp and a complaint to the Attorney General. All Fox would have had to do is reconcile the mileage I put on the car to see that unless I carried it on my back to South Carolina, the car was actually driven less than 600 miles from the time I rented it to the time I turned it in. Traveling to South Carolina would have added at minimum another 1200 miles.

I chose Fox San Francisco airport location to rent a car as they had medium sized hybrids and reasonable rates. I was traveling to Yosemite for a long planned family vacation and wanted good mileage. I was in line an hour and a half with a young child to get a car. Others in line literally walked away and went to different rental companies in frustration. One man took pictures of the line and said he was going to put them on YELP. There was a lot of unhappy people in that line. When it was finally my turn, I was informed they did not have my car and was told that I would be assigned an large SUV. I asked if I could wait for the car I ordered but was told there was no guarantee I would get it even if I waited. They ended up being assigned a large Ford Explorer that got about 18 mpg.

After seeing the vehicle I went back to the window and asked for anything smaller as I am not use to driving large vehicles and did not want a large vehicle. I was told no. I drove the car locally for the first day waiting for family to arrive and on the second day took off for Yosemite. The check engine light came on after driving past Gilroy. We stopped and called Fox. I was on hold for 28 minutes and hung up and ended up calling their emergency line. Someone finally answered and told us to bring the car back into the nearest agency which was in San Jose. We wasted about 3 hours trying to reach FOX and speak to someone, returning the car to SJ airport, drive time and gas with the gas guzzling car.

I did not fill up the car but went directly to the airport as I had used the gas in vain having to return the vehicle. I was told that we would be charged extra for not filling up the car. I was incredibly frustrated both by the disruption, waste of our vacation time and need to return the car. When I was told we should have filled the tank I was in tears and the women (who was quite kind) told me not to worry about the gas. The gas would not have been an issue if the car hadn't been faulty and we hadn't wasted 2 and 1/2 hours of driving for nothing. We got another (too large car) and ended up meeting our family arriving at Yosemite 4 hours late and missed out on half a day of a 600.00 per night cabin.

It was an awful start to our vacation. We ended up bringing the second car back to the same airport that we had picked it up from. (It was easier for my son) We had called to ask if we could and was told there would be an additional charge of 75.00. We agreed. It ended up to be 98.00 with taxes. Once all was said and done, FOX told us that we would be charged 118.00 for not filling the gas tank of the first faulty car that we had to return. (We had filled the replacement) My son tried to explain the history and called me very frustrated. I ended up calling the service department and speaking to a woman who said she would take off the additional gas charges.

While the people we spoke to were nice I would NOT recommend this company. The bill was supposed to be 166.00 and we were told it was going to be almost 500.00 by the time things were said and done. It was a hassle, you stand in line for a ridiculous amount of time and you do NOT get the car you reserved or even anything like it. They do not give you the option of registering online. FOX is incredibly hard to reach by phone. (We were on hold for 25 plus minutes each time we called, including when we had stopped the car and were trying to report the check engine light had gone on) The only exception to this was today when I called the customer service line for those who have already returned cars.

I don't think FOX has the cars they say they have and bait and switch. Here I am at home a full day after our vacation and still dealing with FOX. It made our vacation stressful both during and after. I wish I had been like the people in the initial check in line who vacated the ridiculous line and went to another agency. It would have given us a longer, less stressful time in California.

Rented a car in Florida. Told them I was driving from Fort Myers to Miami. Girl at the counter neglected to tell me that there were toll roads in Miami that could not be paid with cash. Florida has teamed up with the car rental companies to to bend over tourists and backdoor them with fees until they are raw. I didn't even know when I was going through a toll as all of the toll booths have been removed. Received a bill from Fox a month after my trip for $8 in toll fees and $90 in "admin fees" that go straight to Fox. Didn't even bother to lube me up first. Just jammed that bill right up my mailbox. Please let this be a warning to anyone looking to rent a car: DO NOT USE FOX-RENT-A-CAR. I was initially drawn to them while looking for a car through Expedia because of their low prices and car options. When I called to alter my reservation to move the pick up time up for hours since my flight changed, the customer service reps at Expedia transferred me to Fox. This is where it all started to go bad. First, the Fox customer service rep tells me that it's not a problem, they can easily move my time up. He was wrong. He transferred me to another woman who basically called her co-worker dumb, and told me that if I wanted to change my time, I'd need to cancel my reservation through Expedia, remake it directly with Fox and it would be an additional $80 added to my total. I agreed and paid the extra $80 over the phone while making the new reservation with Fox.

When I arrive in Tampa, FL, the woman at the counter tells me that I should purchase damage coverage because of the possible hurricane coming for $25.99/day; I was told that if I didn't have it, I would be responsible for any damage to the vehicle (of course I purchase it and we have beautiful weather all week). I returned the car, no damage, everything looks good and I'm pleasantly surprised at how easy the return process was. My receipt with my $150.00 refund listed on it is emailed to me and I leave.

Two weeks after coming home, I get a bill for about $50; I honestly don't pay much attention to it, pay the bill and think it's all over. A week after that, I get a second bill for $66. Apparently, which the woman who convinced me to by damage protection neglected to tell me, Fox does not cover toll payments despite the sticker in the top corner of the windshield that says "SunPass Equipped." My second bill says that I owe $6 in tolls and another $60 in administrative fees!

When I called to speak with a representative, I wasn't able to speak with anyone, only automated responses. Through those responses I come to find out that an affidavit was submitted to the State of Florida on my behalf by Fox because I went through tolls illegally. I was never told, nor was it on the contract I signed, that I would be responsible for tolls; I even have a copy of the contract that was emailed to me which I reviewed with a fine tooth comb. Through the automated responses, I am also told that I should be expecting a ticket from the State of Florida, which I will also have to pay. There goes my "refund"!! We had a horrible experience with Fox. My husband, two young children (3,4 YO) and I had a reservation to rent a car in Chicago Aug 21-27, 2019 from Fox. When we got to our destination (after a 6.5 hour delay from our airline), there were NO CARS AVAILABLE. I know what you’re thinking, maybe you got there too late and they gave away your car. Nope. When we were told our flight was being delayed, we called Fox and they redid our reservation to accommodate the time delay because they can’t guarantee a reservation 3 hours past the original pick up time (also a stupid rule). And we paid more to do that. Also, we were among 6 other couples/individuals/families that had reservations and this location of Fox rent a car had NO VEHICLES for any of us.

My husband went to a different rental car company and was given a car within 30 minutes. While I waited with my two kids for my husband to come back to Fox, several more people were disappointed with the lack of vehicles despite the fact that they ALL HAD RESERVATIONS!!! This was the most insane experience I’ve ever had at any company, not just rental cars. Also, we had to spend an additional $100 to get a car on the spot because most people have reservations. And our reservation didn’t mean a darn thing at Fox because they didn’t have a car to match up to our reservation. It was a miserable situation because we had been delayed 6.5 hours and stuck in an airport with our 3 & 4 year olds and exhausted. We arrived to Fox in Chicago at 2am, only to find out there were no cars for us!!!! I can’t express my disappointment more than I already am. We were all livid.

Returned from a Miami cruise on a Saturday morning and needed a rent a car in a pinch. Another member in our group recommended Fox Rent A Car so made the reservation, caught the bus to the airport and then Fox's shuttle to their airport off site location. A very industrial area, but not an issue for me. Made my way to the counter w/in 10 minutes of arrival and began the "read and initial/sign everything" from a cellphone sized tablet. Knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I opted for the Plate Pass toll option for $8.99 because there is NOWHERE in South Florida one can drive without using a toll road. (Unless you live there, know ALL the back roads and don't travel very far.)

After payment was made, $150 hold + $30 rental [$7 was the rental amount and the difference $23 was taxes, fees & other charges (I assumed)], the agreement was printed and handed over for proof of the rental. Didn't pay attention at the time, but the entire middle section of the agreement was BLANK. Apparently, this is where only what you agree to is printed. Returned the car 24 hours later and flew back to NC.

As promised, the $150 was refunded back to my card a few days later and all was well... So I thought. Two Weeks later I received a bill from Fox Rent A Car for $47.74 (3 tolls totaling $2.74 and $45 in administrative fees). Called to find out why my Plate Pass did not take care of this and was told I clearly declined the Plate Pass option (visible ONLY from their screen) and it was my responsibility to read the blank printed copy of the agreement. We went through the 10-12 cars there we could choose from and none were up to my standards. They were dirty on the outside, the inside, and had bad smells.

The one we got was the cleanest on the outside, but had the worst wet dog smell. In addition to that the service required light kept popping up! The customer service agent is unwilling to do the refund I requested, offered a credit of 25.00 and we have no Fox near us. She is also under the impression we were offered and received an upgrade. Then the person at the counter attempted to charge me $374. on a $84. rental, but luckily I had all my confirmation information, Then he proceeded to lie to me in order to jack the rental up to almost $150. He lied and told me that all over FL required tolls from the airport out to anyplace I go and if I didn't get the toll pass for $8.00 per day, it would cost me $15.+ toll per toll and I would end up paying way more. He then went on to say that if I didn't get the gas waiver from them, then I would be charged a lot more because there is no gas in FL. That was a complete lie. All gas stations were open and sold gas.

They were clearly taking full advantage of tourist and the expected Hurricane that didn't impact us. I had stopped him as he was trying to boost it up to $270 by telling me that even though I have full coverage, my insurance would never cover it. Then they send you to a low lit lot at almost 10:30 pm and say pick a car from row 3 which is some parts in a large puddle, but the cars smelled of smoke, which I pointed out to the person checking them out and all she could say was, "I guess the person before was smoking when they shouldn't have and probably got fined the $250.00." I have rented from Fox several times before, also in San Diego, so I am writing this because of one very poor experience today. The rental agent was great but when we went to the second floor there was a guy who said, "Take your choice of two vehicles," and then he disappeared. Not quite knowing what to do, we got in one and drove to the exit where we were second in line. The female attendant directed the car ahead of us around to a parking area about 40 feet away. There, she engaged that customer in a very long conversation lasting well more than 5 minutes and the back up of vehicles behind us grew to 3 other cars in line waiting to get out. Finally she came back and we proceeded to go around the vehicle to record the nicks and scratches and dents.

She had a preprinted diagram with several areas of dents indicated but not the back bumper and door which had deep penetrating dents which I pointed out to her which were not recorded on her diagram. She said it didn't matter since we had insurance to cover it. I said that was not sufficient and I wanted those areas of dents on the back bumper and door indicated on the form. She got very uppity saying "I know my job" and "don't talk to me like that" when all I was doing was objecting to her direction to me to just forget about it since my insurance would cover it. Feeling like this was some sort of devious trap, I insisted that she indicate on the form the dents on the back of the vehicle which she refused to write in the same space as the other dent descriptions at the bottom of the form.

She would only check the box on the back right of the vehicle description with a note in the upper portion, "dent". She was really insulting to me and tried to make it seem like I was being unreasonable and pretty much abusing her with my sticking up for my rights. At no time did she act like a person who cared one bit for me or the logic of my trying to leave the facility with a proper accounting of the damage on the vehicle I was renting. In fact, I have never had such a bad experience renting a vehicle in this country and in others. I am very, very angry that I was treated in such a manner and will never rent from Fox again.

Last week I rented a car from the Orlando airport Fox off-site location.

    1. The representative, of course, offered several additional services, which I declined. I told him I wanted to pay the amount I was quoted for during my booking thru Expedia ($175 including taxes and fees) and he said ok. When he gave me the contract to sign, I noticed a line showing $12.99/day for something. I immediately asked him to explain and he told me not to worry about it and that I would only pay the $175 (plus deposit.) He even wrote "total charge $175 + $150 deposit" for the second time at the bottom of the contract! When I got the final bill by email, the charges were actually $266, which means that they added the $12.99/day. I have sent messages thru the Fox website. I have also complained to the corporate office by phone and have been told they would look into this matter, but have not received call back after 3 days!

    2. Another problem I caught on time was with the gas in the tank. You know how they say full to full. Well, after I picked up the vehicle and was about one mile away, I noticed that the gas tank was only at 1/4. I immediately turned back to the rental place and had them note it in the contract, which they did. However, had I not done that, I would have had to pay a penalty for bringing the car back with only 1/4 tank.

    3. Finally, and probably the scariest part of this terrible experience, I returned the car a couple of hours earlier than scheduled. The agency was understaffed and I was told by the receiving person just to leave the keys inside the vehicle and that I would get the final receipt by email. I was hesitant to do that, but I did it anyway after consulting with the only person inside the office. I notice all other customers were doing the same thing, "leaving the keys inside and taking the bus to the airport." 24 hours went by and I still did not have my receipt. I immediately contacted the main office and was told that their computer did not show the vehicle being returned!!! Just imagine how I felt at that moment!!!! They said they would send an email to the local office regarding this matter. Finally, 48 hours later I got the emailed receipt! Those 48 hours caused me a lot of stress and anxiety!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! THEY ARE HORRIBLE!!!!

I booked a rental car from the Orlando location for our Disney Vacation- July 2019. As an experienced traveler - I will have to say DO NOT EVER book a rental vehicle with this company! We arrived at the airport and easily found the pickup point - this was the ONLY good part of this experience. We were shuttled to an off-site location and when we (a family of 5) arrived at the location - it was packed with at least 60 people - this is a small building and it was very hot - because the doors were being held open for people to be able to stand in line.

We arrived at the location at 12:15 pm. We stood in the line for 2 1/2 hours before getting up to the counter. During our time in line - there were on average 3 people working the counter - once in a while someone else would come work - maybe for 15-20 minutes and then leave. This is the worst customer service I have experienced! I wish I would have paid the $150 extra and rented a car from the airport rental car companies - it would've been so worth the extra $150.

Once we got up to the counter - we were told that they were out of the SUV that we had booked a month prior - they only had a minivan available and that was an upgrade they weren't charging us for. Really a full size SUV to a minivan is an upgrade? But, what could we do at that point - wait in line for another 2 hours of our vacation? Then the representative went through the contract with us and told us that if we brought the car back early - we would be charged a fee - what???? This is not a reputable business --- Run away! BEWARE!!!! Do not use this company EVER! I know I will NEVER use Fox again to rent a car.

The agent who checked us in was slow and didn't seem to care that people were waiting in line. Even after the paperwork, the car was not ready. He said it had to go through the car wash. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 1/2 an hour passed. Still no car. We asked for the manager. We looked in the car wash. There were a dozen cars in line to go through. Ours was not one of them. I have never seen a more disorganized rental car company and definitely have never waited so long to get the car. If you have to be somewhere fast, you'll be late if you rent a car from Fox. What a joke! If time is money, pay more at a different company because you will spend hours waiting for your rental car.

We had a terrible experience with this company. First, there was a long line to get to the counter and then it took a long time to get our reservation sorted out. It was over an hour before we were given keys to our car. Second, we were promised a Jeep Grand Cherokee and were given a Dodge Journey, an inferior car. Third, there were problems with the car and nobody able to answer questions. We had to figure things out for ourselves.

Four, we were sold a full tank of gas and after we left the airport, we realized we only had a 1/3 of a tank. We were later refunded this charge, but not without a fight. Five, the worst thing was that we were given a car with a bald tire. This tire blew out during our rental. When we called for help, we were put on hold for hours and hours. We never got through until the next day. We had to drive with the "noodle" tire for over 100 miles before we could get the tire replaced. I took a picture of the bald tire. The mechanic at the tire store said that all four tires were beyond their replacement use. I showed my picture of the bald tire when returning the car and the agent told me it looked good to him and wanted to charge us for the new tire. It took quite a fight to get him to back down.

Six, this is the last straw. After returning home we got a letter saying that we were on a toll road and that they were charging us $4.30 for the toll, plus a $15.00 administration fee. I sent the company documentation that we were not in the area of this toll road. Still, they insist on charging us for this toll and fee. So in conclusion, don't rent from this disaster of a company.

Via Expedia, I rented a Dodge Charger with Fox Rent A Car. I did not know that Fox Rent a Car had no desk at Miami Airport. We had to wait outside in the heat and humidity over 35 minutes before the shuttle arrived, even if their facility is only 5 minutes driving distance from the airport. While waiting I tied to call Fox Rent A Car. i was on hold for over 20 minutes, listening to BS like "we are customer oriented" or " we have more than 10 callers before you", etc. During these 35 minutes we saw other shuttles twice! Once at Fox Rent A Car facility, we had to wait a long time, because the two managers on duty were awfully slow. When my turn arrived I understood why. They forced me to pay for their Sunpass (for the toll roads payment), even if I told them that I had my own Sunpass. Unlike other rental companies they cannot deactivate their Sunpass.

They inform me that they will charge me an additional $1,000 deposit because I rented a premium vehicle, but when I will return the vehicle the reimbursement will be immediate. When I returned the vehicle I have been informed that it will take 5 business days to be reimbursed these $1,000. They forced me to take their minimum insurance, despite the fact that I told them that my auto insurance company was covering any rental car in the USA. They asked me to show them a proof of insurance, which I did not carry with me. Fortunately, I was able to find something in my laptop. The vehicle had over $56K, with several scratches (some were not indicated on the contract), and evidently, even if it is forbidden to smoke, a former client smoked in the vehicle, which was not smelling good and had not been properly sanitized. Lessons learned, I will NEVER rent again with this company.

The representative was rude and unprofessional. He made up for it by offering me a much lower rate than Avis. Upon arriving in SFO shortly before midnight (yes late flight) but I reserved a full size SUV to accommodate my children and I for our vacation. I was told by the woman at the counter that they had no full sized vehicles left, and that I should go take my children and our luggage back upstairs to find another car rental company that may or not help. I was livid. I said I reserved with FOX not anyone else, and at this point my children are tired and hungry. She laughed and said it was happening all day and there was nothing they could do.

I had to make a decision and toting my infant child and three other children at that hour to another rent a car company was not happening. So, I settled a smaller SUV which we had to pile in and it had no trunk space, after we let out the folding seats in the far back. It was just a horrible experience and I would never rent from FOX Rent A Car again, let alone recommend them to my family or friends. The customer service is horrible, and they only offered me 20% for my troubles. 20% off didn’t make up for my time, my having to pile luggage on my children, listening to the lady at the counter use profanity in front of my teenaged daughter or the inconvenience of having to take two cars instead of one any where I visited. It started with the fact that there is NO Fox counter at Newark Liberty. I had to ask 5 different workers where to find Fox. I then was told I had to call to get a shuttle. The shuttle took one hour and 15 minutes to pick us up. At the counter they said we were late so our reservation was no longer valid! But they then decided we could get our car! Then the man at the rental counter then told us that because Drive-O/Fox doesn't open till 8 AM we have to drop off the car and call for a shuttle, and if we miss it we don't get a second chance! This is your attempt at customer service?? Then we are being charged $15 to use the E-ZPass, for just 2 one dollar tolls! So we are paying $17 for $2 in tolls!!!

I called Fox customer service and after waiting 35 minutes for a call back I told all of this and much more to the representative and all she would tell me is "There is nothing I can do" 3 times. I asked her to speak to her superior and she refused. I said while on hold I had to listen to the Fox recording say that Fox' #1 concern is customer service and total customer satisfaction. I asked her if I sounded satisfied, she did not answer! In summary my wife and I absolutely loathe Fox! We will never rent from Fox again. On June 1, 2019, around 10 or 11 pm, my family (including my 5yo son) were driving on 1-5 in Seattle Washington. When traffic slowed for construction we were rear-ended violently by a young woman driving a Fox Rent-a-car. The car that hit us was driving so fast when she struck us that our cars became locked together and the police had to stop traffic on the highway to help us move to the shoulder and call and call a tow truck to separate us. The rental car looked close to totaled and was not driveable. We were able to drive home, however, extensive damage was done to our vehicle and my son was mildly hurt in the crash.

Each day (now totaling 18) we have called Fox Rent-a-car to attempt to resolve the issue. Our insurance company has also repeatedly attempted to contact the company to no avail. The Fox claims department answering service states that someone will call back within 2 business days to resolve any claims. This has never happened. No one from any department, and we have called several, has attempted to work with us to resolve the problem, fix the damage to our car or deal with our claim in any way. We have sent emails, left messages and even resorted to speaking with their Roadside assistance team. Nothing. After nearly 3 weeks, we are convinced that the company is deliberately not responding to our attempts to resolve this matter.

The only people we have been able to speak with have been in Roadside Assistance and they simply send us back to the Claims department. During one call on June 19, 2019, at 11:30am, I asked for the name of any individual with whom I could speak in the Claims department, in addition to their general call-in line, the representative refused to give me his name, the name of any manager or any person in claims to speak with. He informed me at the top of the call that my call was being recorded.

When it became clear that he was not going to help in any way, I wanted a record of his refusal to provide additional contacts and his essentially lying in saying that he "has no supervisor and neither do his colleagues". I asked for access to the recording at which point he told me I didn't need it and hung up on me. This business is refusing responsibility for this accident and for the damage they have done to our person and our vehicle. They should be held accountable for these actions.

Mind you they sat most of the time and I had to go find them sitting in a car near the desk. Finally someone arrived from lunch break that could help me and I was given a Toyota Corolla which was a mid-sized. I was picking up more people at the airport and I needed room in the trunk. I was told it was a full size. I checked the list later and that is not the case. The month before I was given a little tiny car and told it was a mid-sized. The lines are always long and I think they trying to find a car for you as you wait. If you don't have the car that was reserved you should give a bigger size not a smaller one if you want to have a good business. I always feel like I was cheated. I have had to wait in line for an hour to get a car many times. I finally have decided that the cheaper price is not worth the service.

First, at Phoenix airport the service is slow, and company is very tech poor. They have computers, but communication is done over cell phones, computer seems to be used as word processor for paperwork only. Took almost an hour from when first started talking with rep until we got van. Second, van was not clean. There were fingernail clippings on back seat. Third, when we had flight cancellation due to weather I called customer service number to extend rental by 7 hours. Was told that at Phoenix this "was not allowed". Told that twice. Is this the first time they had that issue at a major airport? Fourth, after paying for an additional day when I brought the van in at 1pm instead of at 6 am, and paying a late return fee, and paying a fee for an additional driver, the bill was twice what I was quoted online.

Nightmare! Worst customer service experience of my life. Roach infested car. I narrowly caught a baby roach crawling inches from my five month old infant's ear on the back of their car seat and my seven year old daughter screamed and jumped out of the car in the middle of a parking lot to escape a roach climbing on the door next to her. When I returned the car and informed manager Ron ** of the situation he treated us like dirt, like we were some kind of scam artists, and accused us of bringing the roaches into the car. Impossible - we were staying in an immaculate, high-end condo.

At no point did he apologize or express any concern for us or our children. His tone was suspicious and defensive. He said that the best he could do for us was to waive the charge for an additional day for dropping off the car late - we dropped it within 10 minutes of the time we had been issued the car on the day we rented it (after having waited line for nearly an hour to be served)! When I told him I found his offer of waiving an additional charge he shouldn't have leveled in the first place unacceptable he became angry and directed his staff to rescind the offer and to charge us for the additional day and told us, "you can find your own way back to the airport".

I'm standing there, with my partner and my two kids - a seven year old daughter and a five month old infant daughter, and our pile of strollers, car seat and suitcases, and he is standing there, red-faced, telling us in anger that we can't even get on his shuttle to go to the airport. At first we thought he was racist (our family is ** and South Asian) which he likely is, but after reading the other Yelp reviews it seems like he is also just an equal opportunity horrible human being.

At that point we returned to the car to finish collecting our belongings, took what photos we could of the roaches and roach eggs that were visible on the floor, and left for the airport (his staff figured out a way to get us onto the shuttle).

The next leg of our vacation was to stay with friends in Oakland, CA for two days before returning home to Tacoma, WA. Because we did not want to trail roaches into our friend's home, we were forced to rent a hotel for the first night and to cancel time with our friends the next day in order to spend more than five hours sorting and washing/disinfecting our belongings at the laundromat. Lost time and money - at least $100.00 between the hotel and laundromat. I have never in my life had such a horrific customer service experience or been treated in such a horrendously disrespectful manner by any company or employee. I sought redress from Fox National, which said their hands were tied because the affiliate was privately owned - they contacted the affiliate's manager in the area and that person was only willing to refund us $30.00 for the entire ordeal and kept insisting that we brought the roaches into the car.

Reading the Yelp reviews (which I should have done before booking but didn't because I booked via Alaska Airlines) by Fox staff's logic, damn near everyone who rents with Fox must be carrying roaches on them then. They clearly know their nasty company is infested but choose to lie and treat customers like crap instead of doing anything about it. With so many complaints about the same issue - which is a public health issue - a roach could have crawled in my infant daughter's ear! They should be shut down.

Also, they seem to be using other companies to masque their ratings and complaints - what appears on my credit card statement is "All Save Car Rental 177 Halekuai St." and the email they sent me with photos of the car to document the dings and scratches (more than any rental car I have ever been issued) so that I would not be held liable for them when I rented it came from "Kihei Auto Sales". This company is shady as hell from top to bottom. I will never rent from Fox anywhere again.

I had booked this through rentalcars.com a few weeks prior with no issues, I had specifically requested a SUV Jeep Compass or similar. When I arrived to the desk I was told the SUV they had reserved for me was given away earlier, but they had a Mitsubishi Mirage... I asked the agent if that was similar to a Jeep Compass (knowing full well it isn't) and she told me no but that was all they had.

I told her to cancel the reservation, and confirmed there would be no charge to my credit card as this was their fault. No sincere apology from the agent, she had a blase attitude about it. I spent several minutes asking other rental car agencies if they had any available vehicles and 90% of them were booked due to visitors coming in for military basic training graduation. I did find one agency that had a vehicle left, way overpriced but I was in need of a car.

Thalia was unfriendly and unhelpful, told me there was nothing she could do. I explained that I had flown in from NY and had no way to get to my destination, and she shrugged her shoulders, clearly indicating that she did not care. I asked to speak to her manager and she told me that he would say the same thing. I told her that it did not matter, I would still like to speak to him. She gave me a phone number of customer service.

I called, waited on hold for 37 minutes, then was connected to an agent, who asked if I minded be placed on hold again, and promptly hung up and did not call back. I called again and agreed to a phone call back, and while I was waiting I went to the Thrifty car counter and spoke to a representative who told me to just have motor vehicle fax me a form that indicated my license was valid. He said that "this happens all of the time". I got my form and when Fox called back (another half of an hour), they hung up on me again. No callback.

I went back to the counter with my form from motor vehicle and went up to Thalia and asked her if this form was good enough. She looked at it and told me no and threw it back on the counter. I told her to call her manager as they had indicated on the phone that there was a variety of things that they could do, and Thalia shouted at me that she had customers ahead of me and I need to wait on line (which was twice as long as the first time). I left and rented the car from Thrifty. I will never deal with Fox again. This was not the first time I had a bad experience with them, and it was not worth the cost of the car to have to deal with them again. When my husband finally got to the reservation desk he was told they had upgraded him and when actually got downstairs to the car it was a Jeep Wrangler. Our luggage would not fit in the back of the car.

Went to the lady that had just told us where the car was and explained the car would not work. She told us to go back upstairs and BUTT in line because there was nothing she could do. My husband said are you kidding me? There is a line a mile long and you think these people waiting in line are going to allow that? She said, "Oh it's okay. They won't mind." We stepped aside for a couple of minutes and then went back to this same women. She said she had talked to her supervisor and he said it was okay she could give us a bigger car. Once we arrived at the site, there was a long line. It took 2 hours for me to get my car. There were only 2 1/2 customer reps assisting the tired customers. Like what Suzann said of SC, you'll be forced to buy their 3rd party liability even though you show them that you are covered. (I checked with my insurance and they said I am covered).

Not only that they'll ask you if you want to prepay the gas which is ridiculous as they charged you the full tank but they never explained that it will be non-refundable. So my $60.22/day rent became $92.96/day because of the add-on. They never sent me my final invoice so I have to call them and I was on hold for more than an hour waiting for their customer service to answer. If you can, rent from a reputable car rental. NOT FOX! I can't say enough bad things about this company. My price for rental (on Priceline) was $141. When I picked up the car I was informed that I HAD to purchase their liability insurance even though the Priceline site clearly stated that it was optional. My personal auto insurance covers rental cars (GEICO) and I had more than adequate coverage for the vehicle. I was quoted a price of $220 for the rental, THEIR liability insurance, and a full tank of gas. I told the representative that I didn't was a full tank of gas, only 1/2 tank as I wasn't driving much. That brought my total to just under $200. I also had to pay a $400 deposit since I used my debit card for the reservation (which I expected).

When I got to the vehicle it was obviously dirty. When I got into the vehicle there was a STRONG odor of **. There was also a sign posted inside the rental office that clearly stated that if a vehicle was returned with an odor of smoke that there would be a $350 detailing fee. Obviously, something went wrong with this vehicle. When I asked for another vehicle I was informed that I would have to "upgrade" to a full size vehicle if I didn't want that vehicle--and pay MORE. I elected to keep the vehicle instead of paying more AGAIN.

I drove with the windows down the entire week (in Denver). When I returned the vehicle my bill for the rental was changed to just under $220--what they originally wanted to charge me. When I questioned it I was told that the original clerk had made a mistake and that this would be the actual charge and they would take the additional amount out of my deposit--which they did. Horrible company to rent from. I will NEVER use them again. They reel you in with a low rental price. Don't fall for it!

I read several reviews online after I had already rented the vehicle and wish I would have read them first. What you think you will be paying ahead of time will not end up at that price. Once you get to the counter they will tack on all the extra fees, (tolls, pre-paid gas, insurance/waiver @ $22.00 a day, and whatever else they come up with.) In the end I paid almost twice what I had planned for. This is not to mention the car I reserved to rent they didn't have. They said they would upgrade me, but the car they gave me was actually a downgrade in size/space (full size sedan to compact SUV). I recommended they go online and google the cubic feet of space for themselves. They said in, "In the car rental world it was an upgrade". Once you're there, they will tack on mandatory extra insurance (they won't accept your own insurance, won't give the the option to decline it), and whatever extra other fees they can think of, such as, when I recently tried to rent from them in Florida, a mandatory SunPass toll pass for $9 per day (that's a lot of toll roads to make that worthwhile). Do not rent from FOX!!!! Between the multiple negative reviews on this site.... there are thousands on the ConsumerAffairs site. And as you can see no responses to address any of them from Fox. You will have issues and they truly do not care. If you are on business or pleasure even if their rate is good.... it is not worth it!!!! I am beyond experienced renting cars, had not heard of Fox and was traveling out west and thought I would try. Never again!!!

The car broke down multiple times. I spent my vacation in repair shops and afraid to turn the car off. Based on the line of complaints when I turned the car back in and all the reviews, I am not alone. This trip was a vacation. The first breakdown was at the beginning of the trip, on my birthday. Now things happen, but it is how it is handled. NO HELP was offered by Fox other than to get a jump and take their car to the repair shop which is how I spent my day. I was not able to get across the Donner Pass to meet my kids who had come in from across the country. Worse, the car continued to break down so if you have a problem, which from my experience and the reviews, you will have something so BE PREPARED TO SPEND HOURS!!!! THEY DO NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONE. You will get a message, even on the emergency roadside repair that they will call you back. They don't! And you will hold forever to get this message.

I literally spent hours and hours on the phone. You do not want to spend your time this way!!!! If you do get through, you will not get resolution -- I COULD GO ON, I GAVE THEM OPPORTUNITY AFTER OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT RIGHT --THEY DO NOT CARE, they will not escalate an issue even if you request it and even when I went to return, there was a line of people with issues. The Manager would not come out to talk to you or call you back.

I could provide more painful details of my experience, but I think you get the point. I have a good bit of management and life experience and have never before felt compelled to leave a negative comment on any public site.... This is not norm for a car rental, no other agency runs this way. I don't do this for any other reason than to protect you.... If you are considering who to rent from.... Do yourself a favor, it just isn't worth it, go somewhere else, anywhere else.

At the rental location, there was no record of my $90 deposit and I was asked if I wanted to buy insurance. I bought it and was told since I did that, they would upgrade my car free of charge (in my booking I requested an economy booking). They gave me an SUV instead. When I paid for the booking it was more than double what I initially thought I was paying. I was in a jam and in an unfamiliar city, and felt I had no choice but to just get the car, since there was a line of 10+ people behind me. The agent assured me I'd get the $90 and then the $150 deposit back.

It turned out I didn't need the car - so when I called to find out if I could cancel the booking and return the car, I couldn't get through an actual person. I had to resort to leaving a message for the road-side assistance people to get to a human. When I asked that guy to give me the direct number to the office, he didn't have one. He transferred me back into the endless queue of recordings. Ended up keeping the car and regret every second of it.

When I returned the car it took them 5 days to credit back the $150 - still waiting for the $90. Clicked on the 'live chat' box on the website and all it is is an email form. There is nobody live on the other end. It says they'll be in contact soon. I'm not holding my breath. Definitely, by far, the worst car rental experience of my entire life. The price was so outrageous that my company will not even reimburse me the full cost, so I am out at least $200. This place should be shut down. It's a total scam that takes advantage of tourists and business travelers in a pinch.
