I booked couple of tickets from Expedia back in July 2021, flight was schedule in July 2021, Emirates Airlines cancelled flight schedule on that day, I called Expedia to get refund on my tickets as Emirates Airlines was not giving future dates for the flights from Pakistan to Canada, Expedia rep told me that they cannot switch airlines on same tickets hence, advised me to pay for another ticket with different airline as refund will take few months. I did not know Expedia well at that point and took his advise and paid for another tickets with Air Canada.
Flight was scheduled in July. Qatar Airways operating on behalf of Air Canada from Pakistan refused to get one of my parent on board due to some reasons. They told me to get either book another flight or get refund. I called Air Canada right away and Air Canada rep told me that I can get full refund if I notified airline couple of hours ago from the missed flight, since I called them 4 hours ago from the missed flight, they told me to contact Expedia because I booked my ticket via Expedia. Now I called Expedia to cancel or reschedule the flight, they told me to contact Air Canada directly because they charged my credit card, there were 2 dozens of calls and emails I sent to both of them back and forth but no result.
Finally I complaint to Expedia USA on twitter and they promised to escalate my case to upper management, still no result. Finally after a month somebody from Expedia management called me and advised me to transfer the credits rather taking refund as refund will take 2-5 months. The call was recorded and the rep told me I can use these credits on any airline. Now I called them back to re-schedule my flights and they shocked me with the reply that I can only use these credits on Air Canada and Air Canada has no schedule flights from that region for another year or so. It was a height of bad customer services.
I then gather all my back up and evidences and called consumer affairs and they helped me a lot, they then advised me to involve my credit card provider. It was 8k in limbo and I wanted to book another ticket for my parents as time was running out, so I provided all evidence to AMEX and they gave me refund on my tickets. Moral of my story is that do book your tickets with airlines directly as Airline rep told me that they treat customer differently if they book indirectly, secondly always use best credit cards to pay these kind of payments, Amex treat much better than any other credit card. Expedia has the worst customer services.

I booked a flight with Expedia and due to covid I needed to cancel. They would not cancel and kept all my money even though the airlines policy allows cancellations. Expedia does not go by airline policy. Most airlines now allow no fee changes and cancelations but expedia does not. I will never book with them ever again.

My experience was terrible, I have to cancel my trip due to Covid in my place of work (too many people infected, my vacations were denied). I got a package that was suppose to be cancelable, so I call the call center and they cancel my stay before letting me know that I can't cancel my fly, so here I am losing $ 1200 dollars worth of plane tickets that I can't use. American Airlines denied to return the money or even a credit. I just can believe this happen in United States of America. Expedia was terrible at letting me know all at front, and American Airlines at not accommodating to people's reality when they have so much time to work this out.

For couple of months, since I bought an airplane ticket for Romania at a very good price for me - I bought it in September for next March. We are in December and since October I had 4 e-mails in which I was announced that United Airlines cancelled my trip so if I want Expedia will give me my money back. I refused so they always tried to changed my trip to worst conditions (e.g., from 2 stops to 3 or 4 stops). On top of this, recently I planned a trip to Sisters, OR, over the mountains, and Hotels.com (which is also Expedia) didn't want to postpone my reservation; I couldn't make it because of a snow storm. I realized that Expedia does not respect its clients, but it is defined by greed! I do not recommend Expedia & Hotels.com! Their Customer Service is done by a third party (offshore) and they can do nothing to help customers in real need.

Worst customer service ever. Do not buy any trip from them, it is a theft. Once you buy a trip and then any change by the airlines they don't inform you and they keep lying about it saying that, "We said to you and you and you and you blah-blah-blah-" But I spent more than 15 hours with their customer service on mistakes they did and never got any solution and I tell you all to stay away from this company. They are outsourcing their Customer service and the agents could care less. They hang up on you or transfer you after 2 hours of chat or on that waiting line and then you have to start over the whole process from the beginning.
In conclusion they don’t care about service or about customer satisfaction that means about you if you are booking a holidays with them you will have to count on 4 or 5 changes that you will have to pay for example of that happened with me. Flight change for a day later I had to pay for it (extra night at the hotel), also, the fight changed once more and they didn’t tell me. I tried to check in 2 days before my return and couldn’t find a flight information so I contacted them and they said that, "This was not confirmed by you so we didn’t inform you about any changes and it’s not our fault, it’s the airlines." Big lie. That’s why I changed my booking at the hotel in the first place. Please please please don’t book anything from this company ever. #expidia #Customerservice #Lufthansa #swissairlines.

Dozens of hours spent trying to talk to a representative Customer service is AWFUL! Chat feature is no better. Reps are untruthful to say the least. Seems their policy is Make excuses and give NO refunds or usable credits. I booked a flight on 12/05/2019 from Venice to NYC due to the pandemic and the rest of my trip being cancelled, I cancelled the flight (which never departed due to the pandemic) and asked Expedia for a refund. I was given a credit to use for 12 months per The airline's policy (that Expedia said they follow). As covid dragged on the airline extended it to 24 months.. But @Expedia insists it was only for 12 months even though it was impossible to travel from Europe to the USA much of 2020.
I was given so many different excuses including it had to be the exact itinerary (2 years later come on!) so now after trying to book a flight prior to Dec 05 I am with No credits and no $. The Airline says it's up to Expedia as they have my money, (they were given a credit by the airline). Theft in the simplest form... I recommend dealing with the airlines and hotels directly, I will never use them again NEVER!

Spoke to customer service using vitrual chat, was told to contact the airline. Airline has zero records, told to contact expedia again. Expedia customer service is an absolute abomination, not helpful whatsoever. Basically long story short they stole over $600 from me. Expedia is not even deserving of a one star review. June 2020 we booked a trip to Lisbon and due the pandemic we had to cancel, from this trip we have a flight credit of almost $4,000. Fast forward to that same year I booked a flight to Italy to which unfortunately I had to cancel because it wasn’t a COVID-free flight. There goes another flight credit for $3880. November 26, 2021 I received an email from the dispute department stating that British Airways filed a claim for the unused flight credit. I ignored it thinking it was a scam. I finally replied to Expedia stating it was near impossible to redeem the flight credits. I was transferred to six different representatives because each and every single one that answered said they are unable to help me with booking a trip with vouchers. Why do you even provide a phone number and route me to the incorrect department for my needs?
Four hours later of my precious Sunday I was told by the last representative whom I have clearly stated that after speaking with British Airways that they needed to call a phone number specific to reopen my tickets and that is only done by the airline and the travel agent. After the representative refused to call the airline I demanded to speak with the manager. After that representative realize it was her mistake after all she finally agreed to do what she was getting paid for and that is to call British Airways. December 13, 2021 I received an email from Expedia stating that British Airways took the full credit of my flights and they are demanding repayment. Say what? Expedia you are joking right?
I have almost $8,000 and unused airline credits and you want me to pay for that again? I will chalk up your email as you have probably lost your minds. Why would I want to pay for unused airline credits? You owe me, not the other way around. This sounds like a dispute between you and British Airways. I don’t see why me as a customer needs to be in the middle of this. You are all a mess. You have definitely lost a customer and I will never refer you to anyone. You are a nightmare to deal with and I have wasted so many hours on different occasions. I’m glad those credits got transferred to British Airways so I don’t have to deal with you again!

Booked a Qantas flight via Expedia. Due to covid changes in travel rules, had to change a flight. Despite the Qantas website clearly stating that travel dates could be changed fee-free, Expedia insisted on charging me a $500 change fee. The customer service reps insisted it was the airline charging the change fee and were unable to explain why it was different from what was stated on the Qantas website. They were also unable to provide any advice on how I may further clarify the situation. Would recommend booking directly via airlines as they have better communication and systems for flight changes compared to Expedia.

I have worked with Expedia for years and recently I've lost sleep over the terrible customer service. My first flight originally got cancelled and I received airline credit from Expedia. Then I used that credit to book later and the price was surcharged for only my airline and I then had to pay an extra mid 200's out of my pocket additional. Peaking at Google flights, my airline had a lower price. So this is Expedia knowing I had to book with my airline with my credit and they raised the price of only my airline to make more money.
Now my flight was unavailable and I received an email to either rebook or receive credit. Knowing that I will be surcharged again, I called to make sure the price without factoring the credit would be honored. Apparently no matter what even though the flights were lower prices, the remaining balance of my credit will be forfeited aka they pocket the rest.
I have asked to speak with a supervisor multiple times. Then I was being put on hold to "check on policies". Some of the agents that put us on hold have hung up and I have also been lied to about a supervisor's office hours by over 3 agents. Then I asked to receive an email for confirmation and one person was able to send me an email while a few other agents claimed they don't have email. Also one agent said they were going to transfer me to a supervisor and 20 minutes later, another agent their level picked up. So they lied again.
I received a call over 30 hours later and the supervisor said the same thing as the agent and that according to the airline, the remaining credit balance will be forfeited. Also there was no way to identify them or identify which call center this is from. From big corporations, they will provide you with an employee number for reference if you had to speak to a higher power and also the supervisor claimed that there is no one above them to speak to which is definitely a lie as well.
To verify if this is true, I went above and called the airline directly and they said this is not their policy and whatever remaining balance would remain in my account to use for future trips. My airline ended up rebooking my flight free of charge and also honored the lower price and now I have over $300 of credit in my account which was the extra money I was surcharged by Expedia. These people will do everything in their power to lie to you and keep your money. Do not book with Expedia.

We're never going back to use Expedia again due to their abject failure in making right their own mistake in our flight reservations. We booked a flight 10 months before our departure and then three months before departure they told us American Airlines cancelled our early flight and put us on a later flight with a less than 40 minutes connection to our second flight. A week before we were to leave we discovered that our early flight had been reinstated, but Expedia never notified us about it. We called Expedia to request our reservation be changed back to the earlier flight, but they would not do it unless we paid them about $500 more over our original reservation. They insisted they could not change our flight without cost to us and would not contact American Airlines to see if it was possible.
Fortunately, I was able to chat with AA customer service and told them our situation and they, NOT Expedia, were able to change our flight free of charge. If you ever use Expedia, use it only to check prices and then do your reservations directly with the company with the best price. Expedia is totally useless and is only interested in taking your money, not doing the right thing.

I told the man that I was just on the phone for 45 minutes and would appreciate it if I was not put on hold. He said absolutely not a problem and transferred me. 50 minutes later I was still on hold, with no one answering. I then started online chat. After working with one person for 20 minutes, she dropped out from the conversation. Then a new rep came on and it took us an hour to get one ticket booked. My flight was scheduled to arrive at 12:40am, I landed on time and gathered my luggage. I then went to the car rental shuttle area only to find out that the rental location closed at 1am! I was literally left stranded at the airport after 1am and had to call an Uber. After contacting Expedia and letting them know what happened, they told me they would reach out to the car rental company and get back to me in 10 days! They came back to say that they couldn't get in touch with the car company and per procedure, they couldn't give me a refund.
I explained it was their issue and not the car company, THEY should refund me. I had no idea that the site would let me book a car at a place that wouldn't be open. I purchased 4 flight tickets to India through Expedia at least three months before the trip. By the second month, the airline made changes to the booking without consulting us. They rebooked our flights for another day for both the outbound and inbound flights. The dates were changed by a day for both segments. Since my Expedia account was not reflecting any of the changes the airline made, I called Expedia. They explained that this was a change made by the airline and that the airline will take care of connecting flights and other itinerary details. They asked me to wait and not do anything since I had a month to travel and the airline was actively making schedule changes and I had nothing to worry about.
As my travel date neared I checked my online Expedia account and to my shock realized my connecting flights were not in sync with the changes made by the airline. So I called Expedia again and this time an agent helped out and corrected all the mistakes and she went over the correct dates and time and flight numbers with me. Followed by an email with the corrected date and time and the correction reflected on my account correctly.
The next shock came when I called the airline directly to check if I can change one of my tickets to a different date and the airline travel agent told me my connecting flights are all messed up and I need to contact Expedia to get it corrected. I was quite puzzled at this time since that last agent I thought did all the corrections already. I checked the Expedia account and that was showing all the correct info as well so I called back Expedia and spoke to a different agent and she looked at my booking and said there is an agent error that has happened hence my connecting flights are all messed. She tried to correct it and I was on the call with her for two days for almost 7 to 8 hours combined. Finally, she said she was able to get it corrected and told me she will call back again as there are some other issues at her end.
I waited for her call for one more day and called back Expedia again and to my utter shock come to know there are no more connecting flights in my itinerary. By this point I couldn't trust Expedia anymore. After spending close to 4 hrs again I asked the agent to cancel my trip (which was very important for me) a week and a half before the travel date. If I hadn't called the airline that day for another reason I wouldn't have realized the mess Expedia has done to my booking. I was a loyal customer of Expedia so far but this incident and a few other incidents (which is not mentioned here) make me think twice before giving them more business.

You spend another hour with the airline who redirects you to Expedia saying the booking website is responsible for all changes on your ticket. You wait another hour to talk to yet another agent who will keep repeating the information and you can barely understand any of them you don't know which part of the world you are speaking to. Meanwhile you realize you are over 24 hours and you lose part of your money.
Even if you manage to call within 24 hours they will give you the most absurd solutions. I was suggested to cancel and book the same destination flight which would cost me 3 times more. We were not informed during any part of the information provided that a Canadian visa would be required to spend 1 hour stopover in Toronto. As such we spent over 1 hour filling out the form on our phones which was very lengthy and after leaving at 5am to travel to the airport we could have done without. Sadly I was without a document that I needed for my application to be accepted (which was in paper form at home 2 hours drive away) and therefore I was not allowed to board the flight.
I can't tell you how this added to an already stressful and emotional situation and meant that I had to allow my partner to board the flight alone (as he was in danger of missing the flight) whilst I tried to find another solution. Had I been aware a visa was needed for an hour stopover, I would have been prepared. It was impossible to contact anybody from expedia so we followed the instructions on their website to cancel our flight in order to receive a refund. Now we are being told that because we cancelled our flight we can not receive a refund, even though there was no flight to cancel???? Long story short a flight we also booked directly through the airline was canceled as well but we received a credit immediately. My husband told me to cancel, mind you this was before the day we were supposed to travel. I went on Expedia and was able to cancel the airline tickets for a credit.
The car rental with Sixt was a whole other beast. I couldn’t cancel on Expedia so I went to their website, which took me around in circles. I sent an email as the webpage I found instructed. They told me Expedia purchases car rentals in bulk at a wholesale rate and Expedia determines the prices. They said I had to go back to Expedia. I went back to Expedia only this time I called. One agent said she could not cancel and would escalate. Well this turned into multiple emails back and forth. I called Expedia frustrated and asked for a Corporate number. The agent was very nasty talking over me and never gave me a number. I have been in contact with the BBB and my friend who is an attorney. I am waiting for guidance on my next steps. Customer service, flight information, cleanliness of the plane, booking experience, food quality, on time flights, flight value for the price, comparison between airlines…. Why not???? We customers rely heavily on the reviews when planning vacations. Expedia does not have an explanation for this.

After losing 2 of the preferred flights I had looked up due to his "connection" speed the agent assured me he changed my booking to reflect EWR->MIA ->EYW and EYW -> CLT -> EWR. Adding the disclaimer it takes 24 hours for Expedia's itinerary to update to reflect the changes. 24 hours later checking my itinerary I was shocked the support agent failed to book the flight after the layover. Leaving me with a reservation for EWR > MIA one day and a return EYW > CLT. With no way to get to my destination *EYW or return back to *EWR.
I attempted to call Expedia customer support but was unable to speak with a representative. I became stuck in a loop of an automated answering machine informing me they couldn't find my booking and disconnecting. Finally, I was able to get in touch with a virtual agent via the chat feature. They found me another flight with a 3-hour layover and asked me to put up over $1,000 dollars for the change fees (promised to be refunded in 6-10 business days). Expedia is very unreliable and if you have to book through one of these online travel agencies, I'd recommend Travelocity. I booked a hotel room in NYC back around March for a weekend in October. I was told by Expedia that the rooms were booked, given a confirmation number, and given reminder emails leading up to the date. Well I get to the hotel and it turns out that due to a booking error Expedia never actually booked my room! So I arrived at the hotel around 11:30 PM just ready to crash, had an absolute panic attack, and scrambled to find something nearby before midnight or else I'd have nowhere to go until 3 PM the next day.
I ended up paying more for this backup hotel, a hotel which was of lesser comfort, than my original booking. When I reached out to Expedia I asked for a voucher or credit to restore my faith in their abilities and as a show of care for their customers. They said no because I hadn't been charged by the original hotel. So no foul right? Wrong! To me this shows how very little they care about their customers and it shows how flawed their booking system is. I used them because they're supposed to be reliable and make bookings easier, but instead they left me high and dry and in a state of panic.
TLDR don't trust Expedia to have your back even when they're the ones at fault.

When I arrived to the rental car they told me to rent out another car there of course at a different rate $99 (almost double of what I paid to Expedia $57) and Fox Rental told me that with my new confirmation number Expedia was going to make a refund… immediately after I called Expedia before even doing my reservation only to avoid issues on my refund EXPEDIA assured me that I was going to get the refund. So I went ahead and rent it the car on site within 7 days. In 5 days received an email saying that Fox was not going to give me the money back. So I called Fox and they told me that nobody from Expedia have contact them on regards of my case. Ended up paying between Expedia and Fox Rental $156 for an economy car for 1 day!!!

I would like to give no star. Due to a family emergency, which eventually resulted in unexpected brain surgery on my spouse on 7/30, I cancelled a one night reservation for 7/22 at the New Haven Hotel on George Street in New Haven 3 days (7/18) after making and paying Expedia $205.00 for the room on 7/16. I immediately notified the hotel which said okay and referred me to Expedia for a refund. I tried to contact Expedia via chat, but couldn't get through, then called them the next day and explained the circumstances. Expedia asked for the name of the hotel person who approved the cancellation. I called the hotel back, got that name, and provided it to Expedia Expedia said that they would have to verify. Then I heard nothing more.
I also started a billing dispute through my credit card company. I was just informed, in mid September, that Expedia's response was merely that no credit was due. I wish that I have read all the other reviews on Consumer Affairs about the poor quality of Expedia before I booked through them. I will never received anything of value for my $205 and I will never use their service again.

DO NOT USE EXPEDIA OR YOU'LL LOSE MONEY. I rent a car from Fox via carrentals.com and paid $1,707. However, when I got the car, the invoice showed $767. I called Fox directly and Fox confirmed that they only got $767 and Expedia profited $940 just being the middle man (more than the rental price). When I emailed Expedia, they always delayed by the excuse of "waiting to hear from the vendor" and then complete silence despite my efforts to follow up by emails/calls. I have the invoice with me as proof. You'd better rent a car directly from the companies than through this 3rd party. They claimed to get you better deals but it's not true. I lost money but wanted to warn people so they will not end up like me.

I booked a "transferable" trip USA to UK and paid $2,650. I had to cancel and rearrange the dates, and when I did the fare was $611 less. I was told the difference was only useable on the new booking due to the airline policy (Virgin Atlantic), so I asked to upgrade seats. I was told I would have to contact the airline directly. I did so and learned from Virgin that they had only been paid $2,037 and the rest of my money remained with Expedia, and they told me "this happens frequently," and I would have to call Expedia to try and get a seat upgrade. Expedia played dumb, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they held me on the phone for 44 minutes before dropping the line. Lies about "Airline Policy" and acting deliberately to pocket my remaining money. Never again Expedia!

We booked our honeymoon through Expedia and had a miserable experience with the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We were scheduled to leave at midnight. Our flight was canceled and we were put on an earlier flight that would cause us to miss our wedding. I called the airline to find out what our options were. The airline (Air France) was friendly and looked at alternative flights with me. We selected one. They made notes on the booking about the new flights, but told me I had to call Expedia because ultimately Expedia would have to reissue the tickets as they issued them in the first place.
I called Expedia 4 times and had 4 horrible experiences. I waited on hold each time just to have an agent be unable to help me. One Expedia agent suggested I call back tomorrow, I let him know that I had waited on hold for a while and I’d like to resolve the issue today if possible. The agent said “No if you call tomorrow we will prioritize your call and there will be no wait.” I asked him how they would do this, would my phone number be saved? He admitted actually no, everything would be the same and I’d wait on hold, he just couldn’t figure out what to do and he’d rather I talk to a different agent tomorrow.
On a different occasion, speaking with a different agent, the agent continued to speak over me and offer me flights that left earlier in the day and I calmly reminded him that we needed a flight that left later or the next day. He even offered me the exact flight that I was calling to get off of and when I tried to point this out, he just spoke over me repeating “Very very good flight, good deal, very good flight.” I tried to call Air France again and they said unfortunately Expedia had to reissue the tickets. I asked to speak to a manager at Expedia and twice was told they weren’t immediately available, but would call me back by the end of the day. I never received a call back.
We couldn’t plan the rest of our honeymoon because we did not know when we would actually arrive at our destination. One day, we had a five hour drive and I spent the entire time on the phone with Expedia. At the end of the drive it still wasn’t resolved and I was in tears. I just needed our tickets to be reissued for a later flight as our original flight was canceled. Finally I got through to an agent who could help me. He reissued tickets on a flight that worked. I was so relieved. When we got to the airport to start our honeymoon, the check in attendant let me know that the Expedia agent had issued my husband's ticket correctly and mine incorrectly and I did not have a ticket for the flight, although I had been charged for one and had a confirmation number and everything. I will never use Expedia again. It is not worth it. I am so sad and disappointed.

Virtual software kept on circling back, and after numerous attempts got to a real agent that only gave me the runaround and no real resolution. My room situation never got fixed and never received a refund. This was in June and it's now September and haven't heard back from anyone. So, we called Expedia while standing in the agency lobby. We were told they couldn't reschedule or cancel the reservation. We asked for a refund because we were not receiving the service we paid for.
A few days later we received an email that they couldn't reach the agency, which we never had any problem doing, and therefore were refusing to issue a refund. I spoke with a representative at Expedia that agreed that we had not violated their policy, but was still refusing to issue a refund. I purchased a round trip from NYC to Athens, Greece on Expedia and while in Athens, I called Expedia to change my return ticket in order to extend my stay. The agent I spoke to found a trip for a small additional charge, collected my payment information and completed my booking (supposedly). I received a confirmation email of the booking as promised. The day before my return flight, I realized I could not check in, as my flight was operated by a different airline and so the booking reference I had received would not work. I logged in to my Expedia account and only found my original return trip and not the updated one, so I contacted Expedia through the live chat and spoke to an agent, who after looking into it, reassured me that everything was in order. I asked for the ticket number to check in, and he told me that it was not available to him because of the rebooking.
I got to the airport the next day to be told that there was no ticket in my name and after looking into it, the airline representative explained that Expedia made a booking but did not get the ticket issued. I called Expedia and explained the urgency of the situation as I had only 45 minutes left to check my luggage, expressed my frustration and my need to get to that flight to get to NYC as planned (there were available tickets for the same flight). The agent started “looking into it” asking me questions on things I had already explained, which delayed the process by at least 30 minutes. He confirmed that there were available seats but that they were very expensive(!), to which I replied that I am entitled to a ticket regardless of the cost, since the error was made by Expedia and I needed to get what I paid for.
He put me on hold trying to connect with the ticketing team. I stayed on hold for a while, running out of time, and when he told me that he was still trying to get through to them, I told him that I needed immediate service. His only suggestion is that I buy a new ticket myself, which I found outrageous to do considering the service I had received. Our call either got disconnected or was purposely interrupted (most likely), after approximately 30 minutes of wasted time, in extreme emotional distress. Nobody called me back, even though the agent kept claiming that he was working on getting the issue resolved. Let me add here that I was at the airport with my parents, whom I see once a year, of older age, exposed to a crowded airport during the pandemic, due to this situation caused by Expedia.
I called back 7 times without success. I missed my flight while talking to the 2nd agent who also kept reassuring me that she was working on getting the issue resolved. The only suggestions I got was to get rebooked for the following day or purchase a new ticket. All times I was put on hold and the call was either ended or dropped. When I asked to be called back if the line got disconnected, nobody did so. I also asked to speak to a supervisor and I was also put on hold without getting through to anyone. In the end, as I needed to get back to NYC on the same day, I decided to purchase a new ticket directly from an airline and I was able to return to NYC. That happened over 3 weeks ago and I am still to receive a refund, which I think it would be the minimum acceptable compensation, even though I do think I should be also compensated for the wasted time and emotional distress I went through.
I have contacted Expedia at least 5 times via the live chat and without exaggerating, I spent 5-6 hours on hold at times. Each agent goes through the history which takes at least 30 minutes(!) every time. Twice the agent left the chat before helping me(!) and I had to start from the beginning with a different agent. At the moment I have been on hold for almost 3 weeks, after have been promised that I will have an answer to my refund request within 2 weeks. I find it outrageous that Expedia did not issue a refund (and an apology) immediately, considering they were well aware of the situation before I even returned, and has not even given me a definite answer yet, because my ticket was non-refundable by the airline, and they are trying to avoid covering the cost. Its customer service is absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional, inefficient and unreliable.

Hi set truth I’ve never had such a horrible experience in my life and for this being the first and only time I’ve ever used Expedia it’s ridiculous. We paid for a rental through Expedia this is how it went.
1: You needed a credit card not bank card a master card to even get the vehicle, not listed anywhere in the Expedia things we signed. 2: We didn’t even get the vehicle we paid for. 3: They had us on hold every day for over a month transferring to this department and that department and don’t forget the 7-8 hour long waits just to get through to someone that has an actual mind and body not an automated one. 4: Kept telling us that they couldn’t refund us we had to call the rental car place to cancel and the car place kept saying cancel with Expedia where we originally made the reservation.
5: Today I was refunded from July 12, 2021 which was seriously ridiculous because the rental reservation I made was to attend my parents funeral and no compassion or I’m sorry during the entire time I’ve tried to get my refund of 620$. Ain’t that something. Never ever in my life will I use Expedia. I don’t even know why they're still open and offering assistance when they don’t even care about their customers.

To add insult to injury, the final result of all this aggravation was that she mistakenly changed my booking so that when I arrived at my departure airport to return home, I discovered she had made the booking in reverse (from home to my departure airport) instead. There were no other flights out that could get me home in time for my daughter’s first day of high school. I had to book a new flight the next morning and incurred an additional night of hotel fare and dinner.
When I called customer service to complain about this terrible experience and be credited the mistaken flight and hopefully the extra night of hotel too, I had to explain the whole story 5 time. We did not receive a useful reply to our e-mail either, just a vague message that the case number has been created to track our problem. Other numbers on the website did not lead to a human person, and automatic robot-messaging customer support was completely useless. We tried booking another property through Expedia app. That didn't work either, after payment page on the website there was a message that second property was unavailable. I yesterday was prompted to talk to a live agent on their Support Chatroom when I wanted to use it for my next flight to LAX. The agent came up with a flight $500 more expensive than the flight I found on my next trip to LAX, telling me I owe the balance of $500, after $300 of credit was applied, meaning, I would be stuck paying $886 instead of $386 for the flight I found if I wanted to use my credit of $300. Agent said flight options were limited if credit was to be used.
Then today the live agent on their phone number is clueless of what I am talking about, circling around and repeating himself without resolving the issue. I spent this morning one hour on the phone with him, without any resolution. Why can't Expedia give the credit to My Account in their web, so I can use it at my convenience. They had ceased hotel operations between the time I made the booking (April) and my arrival (August), but no one informed me that I no longer had a reservation. (I called Expedia's number - 866-310-5768 - and was informed by the person I spoke with that Expedia KNEW it no longer existed as a hotel.)
I was stuck 9.5 hours from home at almost 10 PM and ALMOST ALL OF THE HOTELS IN THE AREA WERE FULLY BOOKED. I recommend booking the hotel directly through the hotel by contacting the hotel. My experience was horrible Expedia website asked how many children 17 below. Obviously for the first adult there’s a set price. When you add the child to the room it adds to the rate so we booked two rooms two adults and 2 minors under 17. My daughter is 16 and my other one is 15 so The rate went up Per adult and per child. I thought I got it good price. But when I arrived to the hotel I learned at the hotel that children Over 13 are adults. So I was charged another thousand for two adults which on Expedia’s website under 17 are minors. So what do you do when you’re thousands of miles away. Do you ruin the trip and go. Home? No. You just pay.
Expedia doesn’t give you the age that you put down on the website when you booked the room so you can’t prove it. It only says one adult one child which at a hotel a child is free. For an adult you have to pay. But again for Expedia their website says children under 17. And how many. So they did charge me for the child. So in other words I paid twice. Once on the website and another at the hotel. Expedia is shady. Don’t trust them!! I thought maybe I made a mistake so I booked another trip and nowhere does it say children over 13 are adults. Again Expedia is Shady. Don’t trust them. Book your trip directly Through the hotel…

As per both the hotel and Expedia’s advertised policies (I cross referenced them to make sure), we have until tomorrow afternoon to make changes and or make cancellations -penalty free. I just got off of several calls with them (all of which included an agent promising a manager would call me back - with no call back at all). Apparently the manager is perpetually “out to lunch”. So far I am being told that the price per night has changed since my original booking. It is now $179 per night and this updated rate would now be applied to the first night of my stay. They then will be refunding me the difference of $63 instead of the full amount I paid ($116).
To be perfectly clear, I only wanted to shorten my trip, not cancel altogether and rebook a single night at the new inflated market rate. I explained this to the multiple drones I spoke to with no success. They are only programmed to give one answer - “it’s policy”. If you ask where this policy can be found on their website, they will short circuit a bit, and default to the same answer. In summary, Expedia is perfectly happy ignoring their worry free cancellation/change policies and reapplying a new market rate to your itinerary (so long as this is beneficial to them). If you wish to speak with a team completely devoid of critical thinking and overall logic, you’re in for a real treat. Never has theft been so polite.

Expedia is a Scam! We made reservations and had to check out a day early due to a family member being sick. We gave Residence Inn a couple of days' notice and the Manager on Duty approved early checkout with a refund for the last night. Since we booked through Expedia, Expedia says that they need to contact the manager for approval of early check out and refund for last night. We give them the manager name and number, as they requested, and come to find out that they never talked to her. Yet, we just got an email from Expedia saying that they contacted Residence Inn and that Residence Inn was not going to grant the refund. This is a business not to be trusted!

I went booked a hotel in Mammoth Lakes through Expedia. Upon check out, I found out the total cost given to me from expedia was off by maybe $50 or less. I was so embarrassed because I didn't check their math. The quote had an amount plus taxes, etc and a total. As it seems, when I added the two the cost was what the hotel said, not what Expedia had as a final total. Maybe their calculators are off but I shouldn't have to check their math. I ended up paying the difference since I told my friend the cost was what Expedia had originally quoted as the final price.
Now, I booked a car through expedia and the same thing happened! This is unacceptable! Expedia refuses to accept responsibility and said a supervisor wasn't available until 3 hours and IF they were available they might call. I travel quite often and use Expedia all the time but will have to book directly from now on. They have proven not to be reliable. On another occasion, they failed to cancel a hotel I had booked and the hotel charged me. They ended up refunding me but it was a headache.

This summer I have had 3 horrible experiences with Expedia after years of using it and liking it. First plans changed for a non refundable hotel, so we made other plans and went. I arrived to the hotel at 430pm and they informed me they did not have a room for us despite the reservation. Expedia was 2 very long phone calls and a lot of argument to get a refund. It took days but we got it. Then I booked a family flight and paid extra to be able to select my seats, which do not appear in my Expedia account anywhere. I went to United site and thankfully have seats I paid for but not the seats I had hand picked for us for the comfort of the kids. Then the Expedia app defaulted to same day reservation that I was making months away but I did not realize. When I changed screens it changed date. As soon as I saw it on the confirmation, I called to cancel a mistaken booking. Oh and I insured it through Expedia.
Expedia has not helped me, has charged me, has not helped with the insurance (it is seriously a waste), but the hotel approved the cancel/refund and never charged Expedia. It’s fraudulent to tell me over and over they cannot reach the hotel (I can) and cannot refund as the hotel will not allow. The hotel manager approved it, offered phone number and email, and insists they have not charged Expedia. They stole the money and over 4 hours of calls to them has not helped as I get excuses and lies such as “well, I cannot make a call to the hotel, sorry” and “the hotel clearly will not let us refund you.” I am done. No more bookings as it has progressively worsened in service this year.

I booked a flight on July 27 for and August 4th trip. Expedia said that I can change the flight anytime or cancel for a full refund 24 hours prior to the flight. I did change my plans and using the Expedia website on July 29th. When I looked, on July 30th, at my credit card I saw that they had not issued a credit to my Visa card for the flight that I had changed (and already taken).
I called and spoke to someone and they said that I have booked a new flight and not changed my original one. I explained that I most certainly used their "change travel" web option (why else would it ask me for the original itinerary number. ). So I told her "whatever", since you have full refund cancellation if 24 hours prior, just cancel the flight and refund me. She keep telling me that I booked the flight on the 27th so I couldn't cancel. I told her several times that it doesn't matter when I booked it - I am cancelling well within the 24 hour prior period. She refused to refund my credit card so now it's in the hands of Visa - but I'm not paying for the flight that I changed on their site. Our experience with Expedia was dreadful. Issues not being taken care of and long hold on phone (over 6 hours) and on text (over 9 hours). By the time customer service got back to us at approx 11pm the night before our 5:40am departure we'd already driven to the airport and found 2 excellent agents at United and American to help us with problems. Needless to say we were exhausted for our flights to Cancun.
Previous to taking our trip I'd spoken with CS several times; you charged us extra to be able to book our seats and then the airlines charged us additionally - I chatted and spoke with someone - the agent on the phone said that the issue would be looked into and I'd get a return call, but I never did. My husband's name was booked as "Doug" instead of "Douglas" (which could have been my fault) but without the help of the agents at the airport (because your wait time was too extensive), we would have not been able to travel.
We waited in the heat close to an hour for our xfers to the resort then we're jammed into the front passenger's seat which isn't big enough for 2 people. It was the most uncomfortable and long transportation that we've experienced in Cancun. Our return transfers were scheduled for 4pm - our flight was at 426pm. I'd asked that to be changed during one of my contacts with your CS and then we weren't able to get thru to customer service at all again - it was never fixed. We had it corrected from the resort - but there was no one ever at the desk at the resort and I had to make a long distance call. The agent finally texted me and it was corrected. Our return transportation was comfortable and swift.
Why don't you let your customers know that there's a transportation desk at the resort? Why don't you offer an emergency number for traveling passengers? Do you realize that because of the errors on behalf of Expedia and the lack of customer service available we would not have been able to travel and would have been devastated. Had it not been for the UA agent, AA Agent, the desk at the resort, and the transportation agent in Mexico, our trip would have been awful or not even happened. Thankfully those agents were empathetic and helpful. Both airlines suggested we not book flights through you or any 3rd party again. We won't. We will not use Expedia again.

I had booked a flight with them six months ago, this flight was 'cancelled' unexpectedly and I ended up having to purchase a completely different set of tickets for a significantly larger amount of money. This was a huge bummer obviously but I was just happy to have a flight. Today, I got an urgent text and email from the company saying of of my connecting tickets had been cancelled and to call immediately if I still wanted to travel. Since I had done this process before I was prepared to sit on the phone to be able to get a new flight.
The first time I called I was told there would be upwards of a 7 hour wait to speak to someone, I accidentally hung up & then immediately called again and was put on the line with someone. I stay on this call for a half an hour just to be told that my flight is cancelled and there is nothing they can do because there are no flights whatsoever to my destination in the days before or after my original departure. They tell me I can can call them back in 24 hours and maybe a flight will open up. I decided to check Expedia's website to see if I could manually find myself a new flight home, to my surprise there are an abundance of tickets to my destination & on my desired date, the only difference is that they are more than double my original price.
I called the airline & the man on the phone very clearly told me that my flight has never been cancelled & that it is one of their most common flights and they run many per day. Basically saying Expedia completely made up the cancellation. I think that this is an extortion scheme to get people to buy new tickets for more money, I also believe they lied about my original flight being cancelled & I fell for it. All in all, DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM. THEY ARE EXTORTIONISTS AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.

The bathroom looked like it wasn't clean properly that I had to double wipe with my Clorox wipes. Mold was in the bathroom.
I called Expedia the next day and told them that I have booked another hotel and will no longer be staying at the hotel because of the hotel conditions. I did as the rep from expedia told me to do was to go up the guest services, check out before 12 and see about getting my refund for my remaining days. The guest services rep at the hotel told me that I will have to get in touch with expedia since I didn't book directly through the hotel. Called expedia back and they stated that they will give the hotel a call to get the approval for my refund.
Now fast forward to three weeks later and I still haven't received a refund. I called numerous times as well as chatted with a rep from expedia. Every time I'm on the call, the rep tell me that they will have this case sent to the right dept. for review. Within a couple days later, I received the message stating that they couldn't get in touch with the hotel and they will abide by the hotel rules and I won't get a refund. Called expedia again after receiving this message from them and was told that one the hotel doesn't have my money expedia does, two that they would need a manager's name. I also asked if I can call the hotel and they stay on the line and get the approval and they told me they couldn't. While on the phone with the hotel, the expedia rep hung on me. Asked the hotel from their customer service info so I can email them myself as well as tell expedia.
I emailed the hotel from three different sets of email addresses. Finally got a response from a manager stating that expedia is the people I would have to deal with in getting my refund since I didn't booked directly with the hotel. After receiving the emails, got back in touch with expedia but through chat this time, and was told again that they need approval from the hotel in order to get my refund back from expedia. I sent in the chat the email that was sent to me by the manager. The expedia rep name Gabriela sent me an email so I can copy the email in there so it can be included in the chat message.
Got a message back stating that they got no response from the hotel and they won't give me a refund. Got another message from the same manager that's telling me that same thing, I would have to deal with expedia on getting my refund. He even included that I need to let them know to email the customer service email that is provided throughout the email in order to get in touch with them. I sent that out to them as well. Within minutes on me sending that last email, I sent back the same default message stating I will not receive a refund. This has been going on since July 3rd. When this coupon could not be used because the pandemic extended (restrictions still in Canada, huge covid wave in Colombia and Peru), the insurance (AIG) also did not pay.
According to them, you are covered only if you get sick, but that was NOT the wording at time of purchase in Expedia website. It was: "Protect your trip in case you cannot travel". They changed the wording at this time clarifying they don't cover Covid restrictions, but again, that was not the wording at the time of purchase. Expedia is overbooking hotels and then not offering refunds when they can't “contact” the location. We did NOT pick the insurance for the trip but that shouldn't matter when there's no rooms, right? We got to the hotel. We were told there were no rooms. They told us to contact expedia since it was done through them. We did. Expedia said we need name of employee from hotel to authorize the refund. Got the name. Now they say they can't get in touch with the hotel so because of that we get no refund. Great business.

Bought night through Expedia and accidentally put in the wrong dates, because I had been awake for 48 hours. I accidentally booked the room for 15 days ahead. When I called Expedia for help with cancelation 5 mins after I made reservation. I explained my mistake and told them I was traveling with a sick infant and mother (not COVID). Expedia was no help in resolving this so I will no longer use the company.
As for Drury Inns and Suites all I can say is that they are heartless. I called, explained my mistake and told them I actually needed a room for that night. They forwarded me to some site with Drury Inn and Suites. I have never received a response from them. They charged me for the night which they had 15 days to rebook. All I can say is that don’t deal with Expedia or Drury Inns and Suites. Just FYI during this trip to transfer a infant with heart conditions and a mama having seizures from Texas to California, so many people were helpful with our journey. BUT not Expedia or Drury Inns and Suites. I had an serious with another hotel on this trip and Priceline went to bat for me and worked things out for that night and others. Thank you Priceline! I have been an Expedia customer for years and should have been better treated.

This place is dirty and smells like smoke. I made the mistake of booking a room here through Expedia. Both Expedia and this place are subpar. I was completely exhausted after spending a week moving my things but had to work until the end of the month and booked to stay 4 days. I gave the smell of cigarettes a pass because it was less intense in the room. The carpets in the room felt damp, there was a hair ball on the bathroom wall, ants crawling on the desk, and food bits on the floor. I would have checked out that very night but I was literally exhausted and could NOT tolerate standing on my feet for a second longer.
Next morning I checked out and was told I would have to talk to Expedia. Expedia told me they couldn't get a hold of anyone even though there should always be someone at the front desk. This was the response I got from Expedia "Unfortunately, we were unable to contact the property and will need to abide by the terms and conditions of the booking which states refunds are not allowed."
So I ended up paying for 4 nights at that Super 8 AND paid for clean lodging elsewhere and Expedia did the absolute least. Savings = -$300+ Courtesy = 0 and I spent hours waiting for contact from Expedia. They said to expect a call in 1 hr.... Call actually came much later so I had to play phone tag with an automated service for most of the day to spend 8 min on the phone waiting for a customer service rep to email someone who gave me the above response. Just useless service.

Last spring, we made a reservation for an early summer get-away via telephone, not online. We navigated to what we thought was the hotel website and dialed the #. We spoke to a rez clerk who had the precise VT accent we expected and booked (and paid for our room). We never received a confirmation email and certainly no breakdown of rates. We did see two charges on our CC, one for the room, the other a very reasonable charge of $12.99 for using the service. The charges were from BH Hotels, btw--not Expedia or its subsidiary, ReservationCounter.com. Only when we checked out, did we learn that Expedia had handled the rez and had paid the hotel hundreds of dollars less than we had paid Expedia.
A 10 % tax rate accounted for some of the overcharge, but not all of it. Do you think a rez service merits the $12.99 service charge it bills you plus $200 hidden under the rubric "fees"? (And, no, these were not extra hotel fees; we paid those on our final bill. Be forewarned: the customer service phone tree is designed to make you give up. That we finally reached someone was simple luck and persistence. This person has promised we will hear from Customer Satisfaction--mind you, there was no direct # to this department--in 48 hours. I'm skeptical.
Be forewarned about the misleading information Expedia and it subsidiaries offer. Go directly to the hotel or airline website and book from there. Be sure that you truly land on the hotel or airline site. Hang up if you are given insufficient information. Have I made my opinion clear? Barry Diller and Consumer Affairs should both be ashamed of their relationships with this company. That is not a personal insult; that is the truth.

I will leave this review everywhere I can find to leave a review. I booked a Holiday Inn room through Expedia and prepaid through Expedia. (I equally hold Holiday Inn & Expedia responsible until one of the 2 companies explains this to me). My stay was for a Friday through Sunday. On Friday night around 10:30, I called the hotel just to let them know that I would be a late check-in after midnight. I was advised that my room had already been canceled and they were now sold out. I was told it was due to my credit card didn't authorize, again the room was prepaid (the money had already debited from my checking acct for the full amount of the stay). I questioned how the card couldn't have authorized if the room was already paid in full, but they couldn't explain it. I spent the next 2 hours trying to get through to Expedia.
There was a big event going on in Fayetteville, NC and all rooms in the area were completely sold out. I was 500+ miles away from home, late at night with no hotel to stay in, and hundreds of dollars lighter in my checking account, and no one between the 2 companies able to offer me help. I finally reached Expedia well after midnight. They called the hotel and then came back to me and told me that I would have to call them AGAIN the next day between 9 and 5 so the hotel manager could approve a refund (for a room that I was not given, for a room they canceled the reservation for). Once the hotel canceled the room on me, that should be all of the authorization that is needed to refund my money. It should not require another phone call from me at a later date/time, especially after it had taken me 4 phone calls over a 2 hour period to get a rep on the phone to begin with.
I have finally been "granted my refund" (Expedia's words, how nice of that hotel manager to extend such a courtesy), but neither Holiday Inn nor Expedia have offered any explanation as to how a prepaid room was just canceled with no warning or contact from either company, which left me in a precarious position. I literally was calling friends in other hotel rooms asking if I could sleep on their floor.

I was told multiple times by 5 different agents that a manger can't help us only they can. If we wanted a call back from a manager it will take 48-72 hrs. We needed help to book the flight that day not 3 days later. I understand things happen but the frustration regarding no manager available for the 5 hours we spent on the phone is horrible. We ended up booking the flight with American airlines paying full price (wanted to use our credit). I will never allow my kids to use Expedia again. When I arrived airport, I found myself without a ticket. Expedia refused to take any remedy on their side so I have to book again on my own. If a flight reservation can be canceled with no reason, then why do we make the reservation at first place? What's especially disappointing is Expedia's response. But they could not refund my payment - said I had to contact Expedia for that. Over the next two days I spent literally hours trying to contact Expedia, by phone and online. It turned out that the only way to request a refund was to speak to a customer service agent, but the wait time was three hours! I opted for a callback, but when it came I didn't get to the phone fast enough and had to start over.
Finally, I spoke to a customer service agent who agreed to process my request, which would take at least 10 days. If you can possibly avoid doing business with this company you will be better off staying away from them. Their first interest is: money for Expedia. Their second interest is: keeping travelers using their platform. Their last interest is: working fairly with the hotels and accommodation venues. Their software fails to work correctly. For example, if the hotel lowers the rate for the guest (such as when there are fewer traveling in the guest party than originally planned), the Expedia Intranet fails to adjust the taxes accordingly.
If the hotel calls Expedia to get this corrected, first the hotel must wait on hold FOR WELL OVER AN HOUR, and after being transferred around to various departments BECAUSE NO ONE THERE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM, then eventually Expedia hangs up on the hotel without fixing the problem. This is a bad company, doing bad business, but because they have billions of dollars they have inserted themselves into the lodging market as a middleman by spending countless millions on advertising on tv and the internet. Avoid!!!!

Expedia is fine to make a booking. It is extremely unhelpful if your travel plans change. I’ve twice been thrown into a seemingly endless loop where the hotel tells me Expedia must make the change for an early departure and Expedia tells me the hotel needs to make the change. It takes pleading and getting supervisors to talk to supervisors to change your departure date and not be charged the full amount. I suspect it is intentionally difficult so they can stick you with the full charge (I don’t know this of course). But after two very negative experiences including today at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve in Puerto Rico (I spent the better part of a rare vacation day just trying to make a simple change to leave earlier than planned) it is clear to me It is MUCH better not to book through Expedia in the first place and deal with vendors directly.

On or about June 2, 2021 I used Expedia to purchase airline tickets to travel from Medford Oregon to Newark New Jersey, departing 6/27 and returning 6/30/ 21. Right after booking I realised that there were better options for my departure if I left a day earlier. Also, returning on United Airlines was not going to work after all as I will have a ten week old puppy with me and United does not allow that age in cabin. Puppy must be 16 weeks and have a rabies shot.
I tried to call Expedia within the 24 hours of making reservation. They make it impossible to reach anyone at that company. The first attempt of calling, I went through the phone tree menu and it was indicated to me that due to high call volumes, there would be a ten hour wait. Of course, I had to go to work, so I opted for a callback. Ten hours came and went and no phone call from Expedia. I then called a second time, and this time the wait time was going to be 12 hours! I requested a call back again.
I waited for a callback and did not receive one. The morning of June 5th, I was tried to utilise their Virtual Assistant, my itinerary number (that Expedia provided me in my booking confirmation) was not recognised. Finally that same day, I received a call back at 10:11am and was speaking to someone and then the call disconnected! I called back, and could not wait on the phone for hours for an agent and once again, requested a callback. On the morning of June 5, 2021, I did receive a call back from an agent and I recorded the call. The Expedia agent name is Oscar ** -badge number **. He said that due to the fact that it was more than 24 hours, he could not give me a refund. I told him that I wanted to speak to someone above him. I wanted his supervisor. Oscar told me that he could not get a supervisor right away, but he would make some notes and a supervisor would call me back within 24 hours.
24 hours late, I still did not receive a callback. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. On June 8th, a supervisor from Expedia called me back (72+ hours later -not within the promised 24 hour window) The supervisor indicated to me that due to the fact that the reservation was not changed within 24 hours, there was nothing they could do for me.
I also indicated to this supervisor that I also tried to use the website to cancel the reservation that way. But when I hovered my mouse over the link on support page to cancel reservation, or to change reservation - neither option would work. The link was broken. I went in to check my settings on Safari to make sure I wasn't blocking the page - but the support page still did not work. I also tried it from my iPad. The links did not work. The supervisor then told me that if what I'm saying is true, that the link on support page was not operating, then I possibly could get a refund. He said he had to put a ticket through for an investigation and someone would call me back. I have not heard from Expedia since that day.
I did go on their social media page several times- on Facebook, and voiced my concerns over how difficult it is to get in touch with them and to warn other potential customers not to use them. When I did that the first time, I received a message from Expedia on the post, indicating they would looking it for me, and I would need to provide the "itinerary number". Once I provided the information requested in a private message, I never heard back from them. Every time I make a complaint on their page, they come back and their "Bot" makes it look like they are trying to assist me, but then they never actually help in the private messages. As I looked further at their Facebook page, I discovered numerous complaints against this company for the same reasons - unable to get in touch with them, unable to get a refund, and various other issues with their customer service or lack thereof.
I cannot keep calling and waiting for a callback. I feel like this company is robbing me of my money and I will not stand for it. This is not just an isolated incident – their social media pages are filled with complaints from people that are trying to get a refund from them. It is not right. It is not fair. I work extremely hard for my money and I’m not going to just give it away to a company that is essentially stealing from me and other people.

Expedia contracts with car rental companies, Dollar Rental Cars in this case, that specialize in a bait and switch scam where they train their agents, when you pick up the car, to explain up-charges (that will sometimes exceed the contracted rental charges) in a way that the victim perceives that all they are doing is giving their credit card for a refundable deposit. Deposits are common, the up-charges are shocking! I think this is a fairly old trick, but it has been refined over the years that depends largely upon the training the rental car agent receives and the fact that most travelers are worn out by the time they get out of the TSA nightmare of air travel.
We contacted both Expedia and Dollar Rental Car to get this resolved or at least get a partial refund.
