I book a trip that I have to cancel. The airlines give me a full refund but I need to reboot through Expedia if I want another flight. When I try to book another flight with my credit the Expedia site block to booking. Because you have to make the new reservation through the agency agent and Expedia charge me the most expensive flight. For example. My flights cost me 425. And when I try to make another reservation with my credit the agent told me that I need to pay 678. But if I made the reservation without the credit the same flight cost me 417. On American Airlines. NEVER AGAIN!!!

They taped a envelope with our name and then put our key and room number in the envelope and tape it on the front door. Nobody was working. I felt like somebody could grab the key make a copy and come visit us that night. Expedia refused to refund our money. I will no longer use Expedia. Because you never know what that hotel's like until you get there and if Expedia doesn’t back you what are they worth?

Awful!!! Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I book through sites like this several times per year. My first time using Expedia, and I will never use them again. I booked a flight, hotel, and shuttle from hotel in Mexico through them. When my flight was delayed I tried, for 2.5 hours, to contact the shuttle company and Expedia to change shuttle times or cancel shuttle. I was disconnected from Expedia customer service 12 times at the airport, after 3 people told me they would cancel the shuttle (which never happened). Called shuttle service and emailed them, never got any response. Had to book, and pay for, a separate shuttle.

When I got home I tried calling Expedia again. Disconnected 4 more times!! Had to file a dispute with my credit card company because you cannot speak with Expedia customer service. Expedia has sent me three emails now saying that they cannot get through to the shuttle company booked through them!! And their conclusion is that I should have to pay for it! A company they can’t reach. How was I to reach them?!

Booked one night at Red Roof Inn in Sutton, Mass. When we arrived at hotel our room was disgusting. It was not clean, the bathroom was falling apart, there was mold/mildew on the walls and the rugs and when I pulled back the bedding there was someone else's black hairs on the white sheets. There was no way we were staying there and ended up driving home in the middle of the night, exhausted, in rainy, horrible driving conditions. When I went back to the desk and told them about the issue they said I needed to contact Expedia for a refund.

Expedia said they had to verify I did not stay with the hotel. They told me they were unable to reach the hotel and the hotel manager told me Expedia never called them. Needless to say I never received my refund despite many calls to the hotel and to Expedia. Very frustrating that Expedia would not stand by their customers and help in a situation like this. Of course all the pictures on this hotel's website are beautiful.

Expedia recommends Red Lion Downtowner in Boise ID on their site. It was the worst experience I ever had in a hotel. 1. Needed to recode the key every time I left room, it never worked twice. 2. It's run down and dirty. 3. Elevator for 7 floors is a 5 minute wait. I cook a better tasting and looking breakfast than one they serve, place was empty every morning, not a good sign. 4. Took a jacuzzi at the pool, key didn't work to get back in hotel, had to walk all the way around to front. 5. Bad area, homeless people walking round and obvious $500 wreck in the parking lot where homeless people parking there.

    6. A customer yelled at me for trying to get on elevator with her and her husband when my floor door opened and when I did she pushed me out, I complained to front desk, they did nothing, not even a report. Then the crazy customer called the police and I had to be interviewed. 7. I asked no room service sheet changing the first day, since I got in late, but they never came over three days, didn't even return my message to housekeeping. 8. Tell me this place isn't effed up. 9. I'm done with Expedia, too. Never use them again to book.

We purchased our airline tickets through Expedia and paid extra to lock in our seat selection ahead of time for a very long flight. Five days before our flight, we checked on the airline website and there was only one seat reserved instead of two. I called the airline and they told me Expedia was responsible for solving the problem—it was their block ticket. Expedia customer service told me it was the airline’s problem and refused to let me speak to a supervisor. After going around and around, the agent put me on hold, came back on the line and told me everything was fine. This turned out to be completely incorrect. We did not have a second seat. After reciting this story with friends, it appears it happens all the time with Expedia. People show up to the airport thinking their seats are all set and they are not….so you’re stuck sitting in a middle seat for endless hours. I’m very dissatisfied.

The rooms are non refundable and the hotel refused to waive the fee and rebook the 3 rooms. Now I'm forced to book 2 additional rooms at nearby hotels because of their error. I will seek legal advice because I'm positive this is illegal for them to do. Never will used them again.

I would like to give no star if possible but I can’t. I went to California for 1 day only ended up renting a car for that day. Expedia website takes you 2 weeks ahead every time you are trying to rent a car making you changing manually the actual date that you wanted for…. I was looking for options so I went back a forward on the page without noticing that they have changed the reservation date those two weeks ahead.

When I arrived to the rental car they told me to rent out another car there of course at a different rate $99 (almost double of what I paid to Expedia $57) and Fox Rental told me that with my new confirmation number Expedia was going to make a refund… immediately after I called Expedia before even doing my reservation only to avoid issues on my refund EXPEDIA assured me that I was going to get the refund. So I went ahead and rent it the car on site within 7 days. In 5 days received an email saying that Fox was not going to give me the money back. So I called Fox and they told me that nobody from Expedia have contact them on regards of my case. Ended up paying between Expedia and Fox Rental $156 for an economy car for 1 day!!!

I would like to give no star. Due to a family emergency, which eventually resulted in unexpected brain surgery on my spouse on 7/30, I cancelled a one night reservation for 7/22 at the New Haven Hotel on George Street in New Haven 3 days (7/18) after making and paying Expedia $205.00 for the room on 7/16. I immediately notified the hotel which said okay and referred me to Expedia for a refund. I tried to contact Expedia via chat, but couldn't get through, then called them the next day and explained the circumstances. Expedia asked for the name of the hotel person who approved the cancellation. I called the hotel back, got that name, and provided it to Expedia Expedia said that they would have to verify. Then I heard nothing more.

I also started a billing dispute through my credit card company. I was just informed, in mid September, that Expedia's response was merely that no credit was due. I wish that I have read all the other reviews on Consumer Affairs about the poor quality of Expedia before I booked through them. I will never received anything of value for my $205 and I will never use their service again.

I called Fox directly and Fox confirmed that they only got $767 and Expedia profited $940 just being the middle man (more than the rental price). When I emailed Expedia, they always delayed by the excuse of "waiting to hear from the vendor" and then complete silence despite my efforts to follow up by emails/calls. I have the invoice with me as proof. You'd better rent a car directly from the companies than through this 3rd party. They claimed to get you better deals but it's not true. I was told the difference was only useable on the new booking due to the airline policy (Virgin Atlantic), so I asked to upgrade seats. I was told I would have to contact the airline directly. I did so and learned from Virgin that they had only been paid $2,037 and the rest of my money remained with Expedia, and they told me "this happens frequently," and I would have to call Expedia to try and get a seat upgrade. Expedia played dumb, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they held me on the phone for 44 minutes before dropping the line. We booked our honeymoon through Expedia and had a miserable experience with the worst customer service I have ever experienced. We were scheduled to leave at midnight. Our flight was canceled and we were put on an earlier flight that would cause us to miss our wedding. I called the airline to find out what our options were. The airline (Air France) was friendly and looked at alternative flights with me. We selected one. They made notes on the booking about the new flights, but told me I had to call Expedia because ultimately Expedia would have to reissue the tickets as they issued them in the first place.

I called Expedia 4 times and had 4 horrible experiences. I waited on hold each time just to have an agent be unable to help me. One Expedia agent suggested I call back tomorrow, I let him know that I had waited on hold for a while and I’d like to resolve the issue today if possible. The agent said “No if you call tomorrow we will prioritize your call and there will be no wait.” I asked him how they would do this, would my phone number be saved? He admitted actually no, everything would be the same and I’d wait on hold, he just couldn’t figure out what to do and he’d rather I talk to a different agent tomorrow.

On a different occasion, speaking with a different agent, the agent continued to speak over me and offer me flights that left earlier in the day and I calmly reminded him that we needed a flight that left later or the next day. He even offered me the exact flight that I was calling to get off of and when I tried to point this out, he just spoke over me repeating “Very very good flight, good deal, very good flight.” I tried to call Air France again and they said unfortunately Expedia had to reissue the tickets. I asked to speak to a manager at Expedia and twice was told they weren’t immediately available, but would call me back by the end of the day. I never received a call back.

We couldn’t plan the rest of our honeymoon because we did not know when we would actually arrive at our destination. One day, we had a five hour drive and I spent the entire time on the phone with Expedia. At the end of the drive it still wasn’t resolved and I was in tears. I just needed our tickets to be reissued for a later flight as our original flight was canceled. Finally I got through to an agent who could help me. He reissued tickets on a flight that worked. I was so relieved. When we got to the airport to start our honeymoon, the check in attendant let me know that the Expedia agent had issued my husband's ticket correctly and mine incorrectly and I did not have a ticket for the flight, although I had been charged for one and had a confirmation number and everything. I will never use Expedia again. It is not worth it. I am so sad and disappointed.

So, my wife and I book our rental car through Expedia on our last trip to Brazil. We arrived to the rental car agency approximately 1 hour after our scheduled arrival. We were subsequently refused the vehicle by the rental agency and told our reservation was cancelled. We were told that we could reschedule through Expedia. So, we called Expedia while standing in the agency lobby. We were told they couldn't reschedule or cancel the reservation. We asked for a refund because we were not receiving the service we paid for.

A few days later we received an email that they couldn't reach the agency, which we never had any problem doing, and therefore were refusing to issue a refund. I spoke with a representative at Expedia that agreed that we had not violated their policy, but was still refusing to issue a refund. So even though we did everything the way we were suppose to, Expedia still refused to stand by their own policy and issue a refund. Safe to say I will neither use Expedia again, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone other than the people I hate.

I purchased a round trip from NYC to Athens, Greece on Expedia and while in Athens, I called Expedia to change my return ticket in order to extend my stay. The agent I spoke to found a trip for a small additional charge, collected my payment information and completed my booking (supposedly). I received a confirmation email of the booking as promised. The day before my return flight, I realized I could not check in, as my flight was operated by a different airline and so the booking reference I had received would not work. I logged in to my Expedia account and only found my original return trip and not the updated one, so I contacted Expedia through the live chat and spoke to an agent, who after looking into it, reassured me that everything was in order. I asked for the ticket number to check in, and he told me that it was not available to him because of the rebooking.

I got to the airport the next day to be told that there was no ticket in my name and after looking into it, the airline representative explained that Expedia made a booking but did not get the ticket issued. I called Expedia and explained the urgency of the situation as I had only 45 minutes left to check my luggage, expressed my frustration and my need to get to that flight to get to NYC as planned (there were available tickets for the same flight). The agent started “looking into it” asking me questions on things I had already explained, which delayed the process by at least 30 minutes. He confirmed that there were available seats but that they were very expensive(!), to which I replied that I am entitled to a ticket regardless of the cost, since the error was made by Expedia and I needed to get what I paid for.

He put me on hold trying to connect with the ticketing team. I stayed on hold for a while, running out of time, and when he told me that he was still trying to get through to them, I told him that I needed immediate service. His only suggestion is that I buy a new ticket myself, which I found outrageous to do considering the service I had received. Our call either got disconnected or was purposely interrupted (most likely), after approximately 30 minutes of wasted time, in extreme emotional distress. Nobody called me back, even though the agent kept claiming that he was working on getting the issue resolved. Let me add here that I was at the airport with my parents, whom I see once a year, of older age, exposed to a crowded airport during the pandemic, due to this situation caused by Expedia.

I called back 7 times without success. I missed my flight while talking to the 2nd agent who also kept reassuring me that she was working on getting the issue resolved. The only suggestions I got was to get rebooked for the following day or purchase a new ticket. All times I was put on hold and the call was either ended or dropped. When I asked to be called back if the line got disconnected, nobody did so. I also asked to speak to a supervisor and I was also put on hold without getting through to anyone. In the end, as I needed to get back to NYC on the same day, I decided to purchase a new ticket directly from an airline and I was able to return to NYC. That happened over 3 weeks ago and I am still to receive a refund, which I think it would be the minimum acceptable compensation, even though I do think I should be also compensated for the wasted time and emotional distress I went through.

I have contacted Expedia at least 5 times via the live chat and without exaggerating, I spent 5-6 hours on hold at times. Each agent goes through the history which takes at least 30 minutes(!) every time. Twice the agent left the chat before helping me(!) and I had to start from the beginning with a different agent. At the moment I have been on hold for almost 3 weeks, after have been promised that I will have an answer to my refund request within 2 weeks. I find it outrageous that Expedia did not issue a refund (and an apology) immediately, considering they were well aware of the situation before I even returned, and has not even given me a definite answer yet, because my ticket was non-refundable by the airline, and they are trying to avoid covering the cost. Its customer service is absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional, inefficient and unreliable.

Hi set truth I’ve never had such a horrible experience in my life and for this being the first and only time I’ve ever used Expedia it’s ridiculous. We paid for a rental through Expedia this is how it went.

1: You needed a credit card not bank card a master card to even get the vehicle, not listed anywhere in the Expedia things we signed. 2: We didn’t even get the vehicle we paid for. 3: They had us on hold every day for over a month transferring to this department and that department and don’t forget the 7-8 hour long waits just to get through to someone that has an actual mind and body not an automated one. 4: Kept telling us that they couldn’t refund us we had to call the rental car place to cancel and the car place kept saying cancel with Expedia where we originally made the reservation.

5: Today I was refunded from July 12, 2021 which was seriously ridiculous because the rental reservation I made was to attend my parents funeral and no compassion or I’m sorry during the entire time I’ve tried to get my refund of 620$. Ain’t that something. Never ever in my life will I use Expedia. I don’t even know why they're still open and offering assistance when they don’t even care about their customers.

To add insult to injury, the final result of all this aggravation was that she mistakenly changed my booking so that when I arrived at my departure airport to return home, I discovered she had made the booking in reverse (from home to my departure airport) instead. There were no other flights out that could get me home in time for my daughter’s first day of high school. I had to book a new flight the next morning and incurred an additional night of hotel fare and dinner.

When I called customer service to complain about this terrible experience and be credited the mistaken flight and hopefully the extra night of hotel too, I had to explain the whole story 5 time. Each time I was told by the agent that they were the wrong department and would forward my call to the right person. I yesterday was prompted to talk to a live agent on their Support Chatroom when I wanted to use it for my next flight to LAX. The agent came up with a flight $500 more expensive than the flight I found on my next trip to LAX, telling me I owe the balance of $500, after $300 of credit was applied, meaning, I would be stuck paying $886 instead of $386 for the flight I found if I wanted to use my credit of $300. Agent said flight options were limited if credit was to be used.

Then today the live agent on their phone number is clueless of what I am talking about, circling around and repeating himself without resolving the issue. I spent this morning one hour on the phone with him, without any resolution. Why can't Expedia give the credit to My Account in their web, so I can use it at my convenience. Having to visit LAX from PHL multiple times over a short period of time, at times making last minute changes of reservation, due to unexpected parental illness, is stressful enough. They asked us to contact the hotel, we did, and the hotel told us to contact Expedia because they were the only ones that could help us because they have our money. Expedia purposefully creates a catch 22 so they don't have to refund your money for services they never provided. I will never use Expedia and highly advise others to never use them too.

The hotel I booked as a single mom with a small child reeked of pot and sex. I declined it when my son said he couldn't breathe in that smell. Expedia charged the hotel didn't. Room sold to a guy waiting in the hall. Expedia refuses to refund claiming the hotel refuses. A second room we rented had a white sticky, spermish looking substance in the bathroom and around the sink and moldy ceiling falling down, dirty sheets, wet mattress and sheets. The room smelled like a dead body was tucked away and smoked as it was decomposing. Dead bugs and people smoking in the room next to us. This is what Expedia sells for 300 dollars a night in Virginia Beach, Florida, and Arizona.

Hi, Let me get to the point. In looking at all these Expedia reviews, most of them are when everything goes as planned. But what about when a customer has issues? How does Expedia handle it? I booked and paid for studio (sleeps 6). When I got to the hotel, the hotel didn't have what I asked and they put me a a room that sleeps 4. The hotel acknowledges that there is an error. They told me to talk to Expedia to resolve the issue. I spoke to Expedia and they tell me to talk to the hotel. Basically everyone is pointing finger at each other. The studio was more expensive than the room they gave me. I will no longer be using Expedia and will block Expedia sites from my browser.

We later discovered we are not alone in this experience, so many similar complains found online. Wish we had known that before booking with Expedia. How can a company of this stature in the U.S. just take your money and be unaccountable?!

I booked a reservation through Expedia for 2 night stay in PA. After driving 9.5 hours and arriving at ~9:45 PM I discover there is NO HOTEL! There are 2 structures there but they operate as a rooming house for longer term residents and NOT as a HOTEL. They had ceased hotel operations between the time I made the booking (April) and my arrival (August), but no one informed me that I no longer had a reservation. (I called Expedia's number - 866-310-5768 - and was informed by the person I spoke with that Expedia KNEW it no longer existed as a hotel.)

I was stuck 9.5 hours from home at almost 10 PM and ALMOST ALL OF THE HOTELS IN THE AREA WERE FULLY BOOKED. After much searching a Hampton Inn in the area knew some other operations and spent about 15-30 minutes on the phone for me checking hotels. We FINALLY found one for only 1 night (I needed 2) that cost more for ONE night than my TWO night original location. And that ONE night was all that was available. I would have to continue my search for another room somewhere else the next day.

Then there is the question of the credit card I provided. Expedia told me the hotel had my credit card info at the time of booking. The current operators stated they no longer have those records, but to contact Expedia to see what the former operators would do with them. But why, since Expedia acknowledged to me that they knew was no longer a hotel operation before my trip, didn't Expedia contact me to let know so I didn't get stranded? And what of my credit card info?

In fairness, I'm sure the airlines are individually terrible as well, but Expedia is atrocious. I bought an Air Transat ticket with a free change via Expedia. When we needed to change the flight, it was impossible to do via their website (which is a mess), so I called to speak with an agent. The agent insisted my ticket could not be changed. She could not show me the Air Transat policy and tried to get me off the phone as soon as possible.

When I asked her to show me in writing that no changes are allowed, the agent sent a sketchy email saying "this flight cannot be changed" with no actual details of the flight. It was like an out of office auto-reply. Meanwhile, on my e-ticket/booking confirmation from Expedia, it literally says "free changes". And on Air Transat's website, the policy clearly states all changes are now free. I'm waiting for the manager to call now. The worst part is that the agent just didn't seem to care at all. Just wanted to get me off the phone as quickly as possible.

The person working the counter told me to call Expedia and have them send an email to have it canceled. The sketchy Hotel was never planning to give me a refund. Expedia sent the email and the hotel said they wouldn't give a refund and that I had to cancel with them 48 hours, which is fine except for I booked for five nights so if I canceled they should have only charged me for two nights.

I recommend booking the hotel directly through the hotel by contacting the hotel. My experience was horrible Expedia website asked how many children 17 below. Obviously for the first adult there’s a set price. When you add the child to the room it adds to the rate so we booked two rooms two adults and 2 minors under 17. My daughter is 16 and my other one is 15 so The rate went up Per adult and per child. I thought I got it good price. But when I arrived to the hotel I learned at the hotel that children Over 13 are adults. So I was charged another thousand for two adults which on Expedia’s website under 17 are minors. So what do you do when you’re thousands of miles away. Do you ruin the trip and go. Home? No. You just pay.

Expedia doesn’t give you the age that you put down on the website when you booked the room so you can’t prove it. It only says one adult one child which at a hotel a child is free. For an adult you have to pay. But again for Expedia their website says children under 17. And how many. So they did charge me for the child. So in other words I paid twice. Once on the website and another at the hotel. Expedia is shady. Don’t trust them!! I thought maybe I made a mistake so I booked another trip and nowhere does it say children over 13 are adults. Again Expedia is Shady. Don’t trust them. Book your trip directly Through the hotel…

My wife and I booked a hotel for two nights for $116 per night. Circumstances changed and we no longer need the second night of our booking. As per both the hotel and Expedia’s advertised policies (I cross referenced them to make sure), we have until tomorrow afternoon to make changes and or make cancellations -penalty free. I just got off of several calls with them (all of which included an agent promising a manager would call me back - with no call back at all). Apparently the manager is perpetually “out to lunch”. So far I am being told that the price per night has changed since my original booking. It is now $179 per night and this updated rate would now be applied to the first night of my stay. They then will be refunding me the difference of $63 instead of the full amount I paid ($116).

To be perfectly clear, I only wanted to shorten my trip, not cancel altogether and rebook a single night at the new inflated market rate. I explained this to the multiple drones I spoke to with no success. They are only programmed to give one answer - “it’s policy”. If you ask where this policy can be found on their website, they will short circuit a bit, and default to the same answer. In summary, Expedia is perfectly happy ignoring their worry free cancellation/change policies and reapplying a new market rate to your itinerary (so long as this is beneficial to them). If you wish to speak with a team completely devoid of critical thinking and overall logic, you’re in for a real treat. Never has theft been so polite.

As it seems, when I added the two the cost was what the hotel said, not what Expedia had as a final total. Maybe their calculators are off but I shouldn't have to check their math. I ended up paying the difference since I told my friend the cost was what Expedia had originally quoted as the final price.

I arrived to the hotel at 430pm and they informed me they did not have a room for us despite the reservation. Expedia was 2 very long phone calls and a lot of argument to get a refund. It took days but we got it. Then I booked a family flight and paid extra to be able to select my seats, which do not appear in my Expedia account anywhere. I went to United site and thankfully have seats I paid for but not the seats I had hand picked for us for the comfort of the kids. Then the Expedia app defaulted to same day reservation that I was making months away but I did not realize. When I changed screens it changed date. As soon as I saw it on the confirmation, I called to cancel a mistaken booking. Oh and I insured it through Expedia.

Expedia has not helped me, has charged me, has not helped with the insurance (it is seriously a waste), but the hotel approved the cancel/refund and never charged Expedia. It’s fraudulent to tell me over and over they cannot reach the hotel (I can) and cannot refund as the hotel will not allow. The hotel manager approved it, offered phone number and email, and insists they have not charged Expedia. They stole the money and over 4 hours of calls to them has not helped as I get excuses and lies such as “well, I cannot make a call to the hotel, sorry” and “the hotel clearly will not let us refund you.” I am done. No more bookings as it has progressively worsened in service this year.

Our experience with Expedia was dreadful. Issues not being taken care of and long hold on phone (over 6 hours) and on text (over 9 hours). By the time customer service got back to us at approx 11pm the night before our 5:40am departure we'd already driven to the airport and found 2 excellent agents at United and American to help us with problems. Needless to say we were exhausted for our flights to Cancun.

Previous to taking our trip I'd spoken with CS several times; you charged us extra to be able to book our seats and then the airlines charged us additionally - I chatted and spoke with someone - the agent on the phone said that the issue would be looked into and I'd get a return call, but I never did. My husband's name was booked as "Doug" instead of "Douglas" (which could have been my fault) but without the help of the agents at the airport (because your wait time was too extensive), we would have not been able to travel.

We waited in the heat close to an hour for our xfers to the resort then we're jammed into the front passenger's seat which isn't big enough for 2 people. It was the most uncomfortable and long transportation that we've experienced in Cancun. Our return transfers were scheduled for 4pm - our flight was at 426pm. I'd asked that to be changed during one of my contacts with your CS and then we weren't able to get thru to customer service at all again - it was never fixed. We had it corrected from the resort - but there was no one ever at the desk at the resort and I had to make a long distance call. The agent finally texted me and it was corrected. Our return transportation was comfortable and swift.

Why don't you let your customers know that there's a transportation desk at the resort? Why don't you offer an emergency number for traveling passengers? Do you realize that because of the errors on behalf of Expedia and the lack of customer service available we would not have been able to travel and would have been devastated. Had it not been for the UA agent, AA Agent, the desk at the resort, and the transportation agent in Mexico, our trip would have been awful or not even happened. Thankfully those agents were empathetic and helpful. Both airlines suggested we not book flights through you or any 3rd party again. We won't. We will not use Expedia again.

Today, I got an urgent text and email from the company saying of of my connecting tickets had been cancelled and to call immediately if I still wanted to travel. Since I had done this process before I was prepared to sit on the phone to be able to get a new flight.

I stay on this call for a half an hour just to be told that my flight is cancelled and there is nothing they can do because there are no flights whatsoever to my destination in the days before or after my original departure. They tell me I can can call them back in 24 hours and maybe a flight will open up. I decided to check Expedia's website to see if I could manually find myself a new flight home, to my surprise there are an abundance of tickets to my destination & on my desired date, the only difference is that they are more than double my original price.

I called the airline & the man on the phone very clearly told me that my flight has never been cancelled & that it is one of their most common flights and they run many per day. Basically saying Expedia completely made up the cancellation. I think that this is an extortion scheme to get people to buy new tickets for more money, I also believe they lied about my original flight being cancelled & I fell for it. Not only did I have to hold all together for over an hour but I also was DENIED A FULL REFUND because that's not their policy. I would of understand HAD the situation been different BUT NO! They want to penalize me for wanting A SAFE AND CLEAN ENVIRONMENT FOR MY PREGNANT SELF AND MY YOUNG CHILDREN?!?! HOW RIDICULOUS! I now have to wait 7-10 days for a refund which Lord knows if I'll even get so now I'm out over $1000.

I booked a vacation package through them. Upon arriving at the hotel and getting taken to my room, I noticed that there was no lights in the hallway. As soon as you walk in to the room, black bugs greeted you at the door. As a wasp nest was outside my room balcony. Ants was all over the sitting area. The bathroom looked like it wasn't clean properly that I had to double wipe with my Clorox wipes. Mold was in the bathroom.

I called Expedia the next day and told them that I have booked another hotel and will no longer be staying at the hotel because of the hotel conditions. I did as the rep from expedia told me to do was to go up the guest services, check out before 12 and see about getting my refund for my remaining days. The guest services rep at the hotel told me that I will have to get in touch with expedia since I didn't book directly through the hotel. Called expedia back and they stated that they will give the hotel a call to get the approval for my refund.

Now fast forward to three weeks later and I still haven't received a refund. I called numerous times as well as chatted with a rep from expedia. Every time I'm on the call, the rep tell me that they will have this case sent to the right dept. for review. Within a couple days later, I received the message stating that they couldn't get in touch with the hotel and they will abide by the hotel rules and I won't get a refund. Called expedia again after receiving this message from them and was told that one the hotel doesn't have my money expedia does, two that they would need a manager's name. I also asked if I can call the hotel and they stay on the line and get the approval and they told me they couldn't. While on the phone with the hotel, the expedia rep hung on me. Asked the hotel from their customer service info so I can email them myself as well as tell expedia.

I emailed the hotel from three different sets of email addresses. Finally got a response from a manager stating that expedia is the people I would have to deal with in getting my refund since I didn't booked directly with the hotel. After receiving the emails, got back in touch with expedia but through chat this time, and was told again that they need approval from the hotel in order to get my refund back from expedia. I sent in the chat the email that was sent to me by the manager. The expedia rep name Gabriela sent me an email so I can copy the email in there so it can be included in the chat message.

Got a message back stating that they got no response from the hotel and they won't give me a refund. Got another message from the same manager that's telling me that same thing, I would have to deal with expedia on getting my refund. He even included that I need to let them know to email the customer service email that is provided throughout the email in order to get in touch with them. I sent that out to them as well. Within minutes on me sending that last email, I sent back the same default message stating I will not receive a refund. This has been going on since July 3rd. I have been getting the runarounds and all I want is my money that I feel I rightfully deserve after having to pay to stay at another hotel because of the previous hotel room conditions. If you all will like to get in touch with me, I can be reached at **.

I called Expedia customer service a dozen times and the two times I was connected to an agent I was forwarded to another party then disconnected. E.g. e.g. Airline says that I can use the credits to book a lower class ticket, but Expedia says we have to book tickets in the same class. The major issue is call wait time. It is an "out-right" theft of payment as Expedia does not care about their customers - only their cash. Before the pandemic started, I purchased 3 air tickets to Bogota, Canada and Peru. And 1 hotel in Peru. All protected with Expedia insurance. When the covid-19 pandemic started they did not respond for the tickets because according to them the airlines provided a coupon. When this coupon could not be used because the pandemic extended (restrictions still in Canada, huge covid wave in Colombia and Peru), the insurance (AIG) also did not pay.

According to them, you are covered only if you get sick, but that was NOT the wording at time of purchase in Expedia website. It was: "Protect your trip in case you cannot travel". They changed the wording at this time clarifying they don't cover Covid restrictions, but again, that was not the wording at the time of purchase. And for the hotel, they simply did not cover from the beginning. I will not believe ever again Expedia's attempt to sell protection. This place is dirty and smells like smoke. I made the mistake of booking a room here through Expedia. Both Expedia and this place are subpar. I was completely exhausted after spending a week moving my things but had to work until the end of the month and booked to stay 4 days. I gave the smell of cigarettes a pass because it was less intense in the room. The carpets in the room felt damp, there was a hair ball on the bathroom wall, ants crawling on the desk, and food bits on the floor. I would have checked out that very night but I was literally exhausted and could NOT tolerate standing on my feet for a second longer.

Next morning I checked out and was told I would have to talk to Expedia. Expedia told me they couldn't get a hold of anyone even though there should always be someone at the front desk. This was the response I got from Expedia "Unfortunately, we were unable to contact the property and will need to abide by the terms and conditions of the booking which states refunds are not allowed."

So I ended up paying for 4 nights at that Super 8 AND paid for clean lodging elsewhere and Expedia did the absolute least. Savings = -$300+ Courtesy = 0 and I spent hours waiting for contact from Expedia. They said to expect a call in 1 hr.... Call actually came much later so I had to play phone tag with an automated service for most of the day to spend 8 min on the phone waiting for a customer service rep to email someone who gave me the above response. Last spring, we made a reservation for an early summer get-away via telephone, not online. We navigated to what we thought was the hotel website and dialed the #. We spoke to a rez clerk who had the precise VT accent we expected and booked (and paid for our room). We never received a confirmation email and certainly no breakdown of rates. We did see two charges on our CC, one for the room, the other a very reasonable charge of $12.99 for using the service. The charges were from BH Hotels, btw--not Expedia or its subsidiary, ReservationCounter.com. Only when we checked out, did we learn that Expedia had handled the rez and had paid the hotel hundreds of dollars less than we had paid Expedia.

A 10 % tax rate accounted for some of the overcharge, but not all of it. Do you think a rez service merits the $12.99 service charge it bills you plus $200 hidden under the rubric "fees"? (And, no, these were not extra hotel fees; we paid those on our final bill. Be forewarned: the customer service phone tree is designed to make you give up. That we finally reached someone was simple luck and persistence. This person has promised we will hear from Customer Satisfaction--mind you, there was no direct # to this department--in 48 hours. I'm skeptical.

Be forewarned about the misleading information Expedia and it subsidiaries offer. Go directly to the hotel or airline website and book from there. Be sure that you truly land on the hotel or airline site. Hang up if you are given insufficient information. Have I made my opinion clear? Barry Diller and Consumer Affairs should both be ashamed of their relationships with this company. That is not a personal insult; that is the truth.

I will leave this review everywhere I can find to leave a review. I booked a Holiday Inn room through Expedia and prepaid through Expedia. (I equally hold Holiday Inn & Expedia responsible until one of the 2 companies explains this to me). My stay was for a Friday through Sunday. On Friday night around 10:30, I called the hotel just to let them know that I would be a late check-in after midnight. I was advised that my room had already been canceled and they were now sold out. I was told it was due to my credit card didn't authorize, again the room was prepaid (the money had already debited from my checking acct for the full amount of the stay). I questioned how the card couldn't have authorized if the room was already paid in full, but they couldn't explain it. I spent the next 2 hours trying to get through to Expedia.

There was a big event going on in Fayetteville, NC and all rooms in the area were completely sold out. I was 500+ miles away from home, late at night with no hotel to stay in, and hundreds of dollars lighter in my checking account, and no one between the 2 companies able to offer me help. I finally reached Expedia well after midnight. They called the hotel and then came back to me and told me that I would have to call them AGAIN the next day between 9 and 5 so the hotel manager could approve a refund (for a room that I was not given, for a room they canceled the reservation for). Once the hotel canceled the room on me, that should be all of the authorization that is needed to refund my money. It should not require another phone call from me at a later date/time, especially after it had taken me 4 phone calls over a 2 hour period to get a rep on the phone to begin with.

I have finally been "granted my refund" (Expedia's words, how nice of that hotel manager to extend such a courtesy), but neither Holiday Inn nor Expedia have offered any explanation as to how a prepaid room was just canceled with no warning or contact from either company, which left me in a precarious position. I literally was calling friends in other hotel rooms asking if I could sleep on their floor.

But they could not refund my payment - said I had to contact Expedia for that. Over the next two days I spent literally hours trying to contact Expedia, by phone and online. It turned out that the only way to request a refund was to speak to a customer service agent, but the wait time was three hours! I opted for a callback, but when it came I didn't get to the phone fast enough and had to start over.

Finally, I spoke to a customer service agent who agreed to process my request, which would take at least 10 days. I also called my credit card company to dispute the payment, getting through to their customer service immediately. It seems clear that when travel bookings started to pick up this spring, Expedia neglected to expand their customer service capacity accordingly. I shall never use Expedia again.

Then I can drive the car out without liability because I bought Expedia collision insurance and when I gave them my Allstate insurance that say they don't take it. Don't fall for their scam. After I was hung up on last night I called her again and she tried to change it herself but you have it locked and it says to call customer service. She said to call and she will give you any approval you need to change it but she has never heard of a waiver to change the dates. I called first thing this morning, ask for a call back, you called back and I was on hold and it has been 2 hours now. I want the dates changed to October 1-3 and the manager at the super 8 has rooms available, if this isn't taken care of today I will be filing a report with BBB and the GM is going to file along with me for locking the account so she can't change it because the only one going to benefit from this is YOU.

If you can possibly avoid doing business with this company you will be better off staying away from them. Their first interest is: money for Expedia. Their second interest is: keeping travelers using their platform. Their last interest is: working fairly with the hotels and accommodation venues. Their software fails to work correctly. For example, if the hotel lowers the rate for the guest (such as when there are fewer traveling in the guest party than originally planned), the Expedia Intranet fails to adjust the taxes accordingly.

If the hotel calls Expedia to get this corrected, first the hotel must wait on hold FOR WELL OVER AN HOUR, and after being transferred around to various departments BECAUSE NO ONE THERE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM, then eventually Expedia hangs up on the hotel without fixing the problem. This is a bad company, doing bad business, but because they have billions of dollars they have inserted themselves into the lodging market as a middleman by spending countless millions on advertising on tv and the internet. Avoid!!!!

Expedia is fine to make a booking. It is extremely unhelpful if your travel plans change. I’ve twice been thrown into a seemingly endless loop where the hotel tells me Expedia must make the change for an early departure and Expedia tells me the hotel needs to make the change. It takes pleading and getting supervisors to talk to supervisors to change your departure date and not be charged the full amount. I suspect it is intentionally difficult so they can stick you with the full charge (I don’t know this of course). But after two very negative experiences including today at the Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve in Puerto Rico (I spent the better part of a rare vacation day just trying to make a simple change to leave earlier than planned) it is clear to me It is MUCH better not to book through Expedia in the first place and deal with vendors directly.

On or about June 2, 2021 I used Expedia to purchase airline tickets to travel from Medford Oregon to Newark New Jersey, departing 6/27 and returning 6/30/ 21. Right after booking I realised that there were better options for my departure if I left a day earlier. Also, returning on United Airlines was not going to work after all as I will have a ten week old puppy with me and United does not allow that age in cabin. Puppy must be 16 weeks and have a rabies shot.

I tried to call Expedia within the 24 hours of making reservation. They make it impossible to reach anyone at that company. The first attempt of calling, I went through the phone tree menu and it was indicated to me that due to high call volumes, there would be a ten hour wait. Of course, I had to go to work, so I opted for a callback. Ten hours came and went and no phone call from Expedia. I then called a second time, and this time the wait time was going to be 12 hours! I requested a call back again.

I waited for a callback and did not receive one. The morning of June 5th, I was tried to utilise their Virtual Assistant, my itinerary number (that Expedia provided me in my booking confirmation) was not recognised. Finally that same day, I received a call back at 10:11am and was speaking to someone and then the call disconnected! I called back, and could not wait on the phone for hours for an agent and once again, requested a callback. On the morning of June 5, 2021, I did receive a call back from an agent and I recorded the call. The Expedia agent name is Oscar ** -badge number **. He said that due to the fact that it was more than 24 hours, he could not give me a refund. I told him that I wanted to speak to someone above him. I wanted his supervisor. Oscar told me that he could not get a supervisor right away, but he would make some notes and a supervisor would call me back within 24 hours.

24 hours late, I still did not receive a callback. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. On June 8th, a supervisor from Expedia called me back (72+ hours later -not within the promised 24 hour window) The supervisor indicated to me that due to the fact that the reservation was not changed within 24 hours, there was nothing they could do for me.

I also indicated to this supervisor that I also tried to use the website to cancel the reservation that way. But when I hovered my mouse over the link on support page to cancel reservation, or to change reservation - neither option would work. The link was broken. I went in to check my settings on Safari to make sure I wasn't blocking the page - but the support page still did not work. I also tried it from my iPad. The links did not work. The supervisor then told me that if what I'm saying is true, that the link on support page was not operating, then I possibly could get a refund. He said he had to put a ticket through for an investigation and someone would call me back. I have not heard from Expedia since that day.

I did go on their social media page several times- on Facebook, and voiced my concerns over how difficult it is to get in touch with them and to warn other potential customers not to use them. When I did that the first time, I received a message from Expedia on the post, indicating they would looking it for me, and I would need to provide the "itinerary number". Once I provided the information requested in a private message, I never heard back from them. Every time I make a complaint on their page, they come back and their "Bot" makes it look like they are trying to assist me, but then they never actually help in the private messages. As I looked further at their Facebook page, I discovered numerous complaints against this company for the same reasons - unable to get in touch with them, unable to get a refund, and various other issues with their customer service or lack thereof.

I cannot keep calling and waiting for a callback. I feel like this company is robbing me of my money and I will not stand for it. This is not just an isolated incident – their social media pages are filled with complaints from people that are trying to get a refund from them. It is not right. It is not fair. I work extremely hard for my money and I’m not going to just give it away to a company that is essentially stealing from me and other people.

So the whole flight vouchers is scamming. If you have two vouchers same airlines...the lower voucher becomes available for use but it eliminates the better price flights and the shorter flight prices double. Then when you use the higher voucher to wash the price difference, the voucher becomes unavailable for that day. So Expedia explains this with not all flights are available for that day but doesn't add that flights change by voucher price lol... You decide what you think and can test self.

Expedia contracts with car rental companies, Dollar Rental Cars in this case, that specialize in a bait and switch scam where they train their agents, when you pick up the car, to explain up-charges (that will sometimes exceed the contracted rental charges) in a way that the victim perceives that all they are doing is giving their credit card for a refundable deposit. Deposits are common, the up-charges are shocking! I think this is a fairly old trick, but it has been refined over the years that depends largely upon the training the rental car agent receives and the fact that most travelers are worn out by the time they get out of the TSA nightmare of air travel.

We contacted both Expedia and Dollar Rental Car to get this resolved or at least get a partial refund. They will consume an inordinate amount of time getting you to explain every detail and then do nothing to help. We finally contacted our bank and filed a claim. This will take 90 days to resolve. If you must use Expedia just get the lodging and airfare and NOTHING else.

We booked a reservation at Riu Palace Las Americas through Expedia. We received a confirmation email which included a phrase similar to “this reservation is confirmed, no need to call and confirm”. When we arrived, Las Americas did not have our reservation! After many phone calls and hours on the phone with Expedia, we were told it could not be resolved until in the morning. We ended having to pay for our 1st night again. The agent assured she had made a case number and gave us a phone number to call the next day. She told us she would take the case herself and the office was small so to ask for her when we called if she didn’t call us first.

By 9am we had heard nothing from Expedia. Called them back and asked for the agent by name only to be told their office was large and there was no way they could find that agent! At 10:30 am we told them we needed this resolved because we had to check out or get it resolved by 11am. Not to mention, we were supposed to be on vacation relaxing not dealing with this issue for 2 days! The agent then told us our reservation was actually at the Riu Cancun and we just needed to walk down there. She assured us it was just as nice and rated just as high. I asked her to send a confirmation email with the info. She did but when we got to Riu Cancun, they did not have our reservation either! These “confirmation emails” mean nothing!! So back on the phone with Expedia.

Again many hrs and phone calls later, our reservation gets set at Riu Cancun. It is now 14:00 of day 2. We asked for a full refund of the previous night and only got a partial one. Riu Cancun was not an adults only and not as nice as Las Americas like we were assured. Since then, we have made many phone calls and spent many hours on the phone with Expedia trying to get our full refund for the 1st night, a refund for the price difference between the 2 resorts since they downgraded us, and a refund for the 1st 2 days of our vacation we spent trying to get them to fix their mistake! They admit it was a downgrade to Riu Cancun on the phone, and also according to their website it is.

The only response we can get out of an agent is “we will send a priority email and call back in 24 hrs for an update”. Then last phone call they said the resort refused to give us a refund because we booked there! First off: we didn’t book at Riu Cancun and 2nd it is Expedia’s mistake, not the resort, and Expedia should give us the refund! I will let anyone know who I hear talking about planning a trip to NOT use Expedia! We will not use them again!

I called them again today and the rep stated he would call the hotel which he did. He stated the hotel denied my request because it was supposed to be done before check in. I told the rep I did call on April 15th to make them aware. The rep had no desired to help me. I even told him, "Fine. If I won't get refunded it's fine. Let's rebook for another month" and he still said No. I went ahead and called the hotel myself and the rep there stated nobody (Expedia) ever reached out to them it was cancelled. She said I would have to go through them (Expedia) in order to get refunded or even rebook. But Expedia rep told me no. Guys again it's $815. Don't bother unless you want to get ripped off.

They did not answer or open for her so she was not able to keep reservation because of them (cab driver is a witness to this). Expedia is charging us a cancellation fee and blaming that charge on the B&B. We spoke to B&B next day and they claim that they have not charged a fee or anything but that Expedia is actually charging this. It is ridiculous to believe that anybody would charge a cancellation fee when the B&B did not even honor the reservation yet Expedia is doing that. Using AAA next time.

I purchased a ticket on EXPEDIA for British Airways (always a mistake...this is the second time they have played games with ticket refunds) from LHR-EDI in March. I intentionally bought first-class AND refundable due to the unpredictability of our travel requirements during the pandemic. I was injured and had to postpone my travel.

Expedia did not allow me to manage this ticket on their site but made me call their call center. The people were knowledgeable and professional, but bound by Expedia's policies, and could not refund my ticket, and it took over 30 minutes to get the flight cancelled, the credit issued and an email sent to me confirming all these facts.

Finally, they claimed I could not have a refund, but CAN have credit for British Airways, ONLY via Expedia. DON'T USE EXPEDIA, AND DON'T BELIEVE IT'S A REFUNDABLE TICKET! IT'S NOT!!! Ugh. AND NEVER fly British Airways! They are desperate and almost always lie about their policies, use "gotcha" tactics and other dishonest policies to get people on their sardine-packed, unhappy flights. Now I have no choice because Expedia has my money locked in a "credit" I can only use with British Airways. Ugh.

05/18/21 I received a response to this review from the hotel and according to them it is Expedia who is not honoring the written cancellation policy as stated on Google; free cancellation before 05/29/2021. I have always relied on Expedia in the past for providing good services on my trips but it seems that is no longer the case. I will make reservations with another third party venue in the future. I am truly disappointed in Expedia pretending it to be the hotel that is not honoring the cancellation. My apologies to the Holiday Inn for this unfortunate event.

(Original message) I am a 100% disabled veteran, recently I had a heart attack and my sister underwent surgery for cancer; we are both in our 70s and 80 years of age, we wanted to give ourselves a recovery vacation in the Bahamas at the end of the year (December 27, 2021) so I made our reservations since Expedia advertise 'free cancellation' before May 29, 2021 at this Holiday Inn Express Nassau; google Holiday Inn Express Nassau and see the different third party venue's listed free cancellation date. I had an emergency came up and I had to pay over $2000 dollars for car repairs so in April when I called to cancel the trip with Expedia I was told that I had to pay a cancellation fee even though this is way before the cancellation date.

Expedia pretended that they were trying to reach the hotel for cancellation but during the call the hotel was trying to charge $300 dollars to my card. This is not good business ethnics and some reviews state that this hotel is loud and it is hard to be able to sleep at night. Expedia is now playing phone avoidance games. I wish I had seen these reviews before making this reservation with them. I even tried to cancel before a 24 hour period and still Expedia claims that the hotel will charge me $300+ dollars for canceling.

The first time Expedia ripped me off was 03/2020. I rented a condo in downtown Grand Rapids to host my best friend’s Bachelorette Party. Then COVID hit and on 03/16 and our state was shut down. I called the owner that listed their condo with Expedia so I could cancel since literally all restaurants were closed and we were not to leave our houses unless it was for essentials. The owner said she’d look into the cancellation and get back with me. She never called me back so I called and even texted her. She clearly was avoiding me and wanted no part of refunding my money. So then I reached out to Expedia who was zero help either and I played the “chase your tail” game as they insisted I get the refund from the owner. So I lost all of that money for a condo I couldn’t use.

Then this past weekend I decided to give them another shot and booked a 2 bedroom condo in downtown Knoxville with Embassy Suites. Imagine my surprise when I checked in with my girlfriends to find a one bedroom suite. My room literally had one bedroom separated by a door with an adjoining living room. The living room had a sofa that pulled out into a bed. That’s NOT what I would call a 2nd bedroom. So I complained to the front desk. And I was told that Expedia does this to them all the time.

I ended up having to rent another room because how am I supposed to host a girls weekend with one bedroom and one common area with a sofa bed. Again, Expedia was no help. And every single time I post a review on Expedia’s website that isn’t in their favor, they delete it. So I’m leaving this review on websites other than Expedia so they can’t erase it and act like their lack of customer service and making things right never happened. Expedia Group owns VRBO and Orbitz. So I highly suggest you don’t use any of the 3 sites as they will not have your back if things go wrong that are out of your control. They’re just a corporate America company that doesn’t care about their customers. I will also note that I’m an avid traveler who books flights/hotels at least once a month. So I’m their bread and butter and they could completely care less.

Never again! They got to Myrtle Beach at Midnight. Got to their hotel the Palette by OYO and it was closed for construction. Nothing was posted on their website. Not knowing what to do they went to a nearby hotel and got a room for the night. Expedia said I should have called them immediately. I called at 6:15 that morning and was put on hold, called back, etc. until 9:54!!! I couldn't shower for work.

I got to work and couldn't work for hours because I was dealing with this. They wanted to verify that what I was saying about the property was true, but no one would answer the phone. NO ONE ANSWERED BECAUSE THEY WERE CLOSED. I spoke to three people in the end. My kids had to pay 370 for that one night's stay. Expedia is not reimbursing me because they couldn't find me a decent hotel for the same price as their original reservation. Quite frankly I don't think that is my problem. In my opinion they should have bent over backwards to make this right. I also tried their online chat and never reached anyone. We got airline credits and were expecting hotel credits, but Expedia came back with a 115% voucher on future hotel stays. Sounded like a "no-brainer", so went for it.

In December 2020 we thought we could anticipate traveling, so we booked for May 2021. Not yet, so airline cancelled and gave us back the credit, but Expedia's Hotel Reboot Voucher expired when we cancelled (Expedia policy). We didn't realize this until we rescheduled our trip to September 2021 and was told the Voucher expired. So thinking we could use the Travel Insurance component, tried, but since the insurance also EXCLUDED Covid as an invalid reason for filing a claim. I guess Expedia needs cashflow from unethical practices? I am out $2,500 for the hotel.

On April 4, 2021, I booked hotel online with Expedia. It was my first time using Expedia so I spent a lot of time researching the different options for rooms available so I decided to book a room with two queen beds, bathtub accessible for $98 per night. I was very mindful of the price due to my being on permanent disability due to leukemia and chose this hotel and particular room because it was under $100 per night. Upon booking the room, it asked if I wanted to add daily breakfast for $15 per person, and, after further research, due to the location of the hotel and only one restaurant in walking distance, I decided it was for the best. This immediately increased the rate for the room from $98 per night to $128 per night. Once I booked the hotel, sales tax was added and the total amount was $1012.48.

I arrived at the hotel at 3pm on April 17, 2021. At that time, I was advised that Expedia should have never offered me the breakfast package as it has been temporarily suspended due to COVID and that I should contact Expedia immediately to get a refund. I called at 3:04pm and it was suggested that I receive a callback since the wait time was 1-1:15 hours. I didn’t receive a callback until 5:35pm and that is when the nightmare started. It was very apparent that the representative did not know what she was doing or how to resolve the issue. She kept insisting that I did not pay for the breakfasts when they were clearly offered to me upon booking the room.

Then she told me to purchase breakfasts at the hotel and submit a receipt to get reimbursed which was completely ridiculous. I already paid for the breakfasts so why would I purchase them again to be reimbursed? Expedia would then have to reimburse me for twice the number of breakfasts. When I tried explaining this to her, she could not grasp the concept. Then she told me she had to contact the hotel to verify this request and call me back. By the time I was halfway done with my calls, she had me confused and questioning what I had actually paid for the room per day so I had to find my receipt.

She called me the second time at 6:07pm which now started round two of this ordeal. She verified that the hotel did offer breakfast before COVID and they had a continental breakfast for $10.95 per person. I would like to know why Expedia charged me $15 per person when the hotel only charges $10.95. As previously mentioned, prior to booking I chose the room for $98 and once the breakfasts were added it jumped to $128 per night which is a $30 difference per day. The representative was offering me $10.95 per person, per day for a total refund of $153.30. I told her I was also entitled to the sales tax that was charged to me for the breakfast and she told me she could not refund me the sales tax.

I also questioned her about the sales tax rate because the tax on the bill seemed very high and the sales tax in NJ is 6.625%. This representative could not tell me what the tax rate was that I paid for this hotel. All she wanted to offer me was a $100 voucher to use next time. Why would I want a $100 voucher to use next time when I was having such a hard time with my first booking with this company? I spent almost an hour on multiple calls with this representative and nothing was resolved. I kept demanding to speak to a supervisor and was constantly told they were all busy and none were available.

Before I hung up I demanded a call back from a supervisor and was advised one would call me within 48 hours. Needless to say, almost a week later and I still have not received a return call after wasting close to an hour of my time getting nowhere with Expedia’s representative. Later that evening, I went to the front desk to question the sales tax rate. The hotel did verify the 13% sales tax and I was advised that the entire booking, including the breakfasts were subject to that rate. They too told me since I was not receiving the breakfast service that I was entitled to a refund of the sales tax as well and that if I had booked directly with them and this happened, they would refund the sales tax as well.

On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 7:16am, I emailed Liz **, Director of Customer Experience, regarding the situation and I never received the courtesy of a response. That evening, at 6:22PM, I emailed Peter **, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Office and he never responded. On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 8:50am I received an email from a unrecognizable email address from “Vandy” telling me to purchase breakfasts and submit receipts for reimbursement. Once again, I already pre-paid $210 plus tax for a total of $237.30 to Expedia which is the amount I am already owed by Expedia.

There are multiple issues here that need to be addressed and resolved. First and foremost, before taking anyone’s money, Expedia should be updated on what their hotels are offering during COVID and not just charging their clients for services they cannot receive. How many customers are they doing this to and getting away with it? Second, I want to know why I was charged $15 per person for breakfast when the hotel only charges $10.95 per person. Is that a service fee tacked on for their booking the additional service?

Finally, I paid sales tax on a service that is not being provided, therefore, I expect the 13% sales tax to be refunded as well. This is Expedia’s screwup not mine, so if they have to deal with the state to get refunded, that should be on them. In closing, I am expecting a refund of $30 a day for 7 days for the 14 breakfasts I pre-paid that are not being received. The total cost of these breakfasts are $210 plus 13% sales taxes which is an additional $27.30. The total refund I am expecting on my credit card is $237.30.

There are two issues I want to report about Expedia:

    1. A hotel booking confirmed on Expedia's end with constant reminders to me through my email about the trip, did not actually go through to the hotel. The hotel was able to book me another room, but the room we booked was why we were at that hotel in the first place.

    2. Expedia's website misleads customers into thinking you can email them to report an incident, but the customer support pages are an endless loop with an email never listed. I can only assume, due to Expedia's size, that this is to de-incentive customers to escalate complaints to them by forcing you to call them (which is then its own gauntlet of being on hold).

Issue 1 Expanded: I booked a stay at the Portland Harbor Hotel for April 10th-11th (Itinerary # **). The day before my trip I messaged the hotel through Expedia to ask about checking in earlier, if possible. The next day I was messaged back asking for a last name for the reservation. That seemed odd, since I was messaging them through my booking on Expedia. I then received a call when I was already in Portland that there was no reservation under my name, and that something happened on Expedia's site with my booking not going through.

The hotel offered me another suite, but it did not have the amenities that had me book with this hotel in the first place. It was incredibly disconcerting to get a voicemail while already in Portland saying my room was never booked. I had been receiving messages from Expedia reminding me of my upcoming trip for weeks. And even in the relief of the hotel offering me another room (and a discount), it defeated the purpose of having chosen this hotel to not have the room I booked.

The hotel is blaming Expedia, and I can't verify who fault it is because Expedia chooses to not actually list their email when they say they can be contacted that way. I now have to give Expedia more of my time and energy, because they refuse to actually provide a service. It's nonsensical that Expedia markets itself as being an easier way to book travel, when you can't even trust your reservation will go through and then have to go through the wringer just to have the matter dealt with. There is no pointing in using the site.

The hotel actually said to me "It's good you messaged us about checking in earlier." I then had to think to myself, "Wow, we may have been stranded in Portland Maine with nowhere to stay, or after having paid for a room, paid for whatever was available somewhere else." This was a short weekend trip for my partner's birthday, after a year of not traveling. We thought it would be nice to ease ourselves into travel through a trip to Portland. Instead, our short time was taken up sorting out whether we even had a place to stay. And now, even after the trip, I am dealing with the stress of Expedia's either incompetent or duplicitous website not providing the email it is supposed to have.

In addition, their Live Chat feature doesn't work, you basically get asked the same question over and over again then you get disconnected. I have been having this experience on Expedia for days now. There is no information on when my credit expires and when I try to use it, the link you click on to use the credit gets stuck. This has happened multiple times over several days. I have been unable to get any assistance either by calling or from online Chat.

Expedia is a good travel booking agency overall with at least this one exception: Changing a hotel booking. I wasn't able to change the booking with the hotel and was referred back to Expedia for this. Expedia at this time was grossly understaffed in booking management. Expect your callback in over an hour, followed by a 30-minute wait on the phone while they negotiate what should be a simple one-week deferral of your stay dates. This ballooned into almost an hour of back-and-forth between me, the Expedia rep, the rep's upline and the hotel itself. That's what created the time window for me to come here and let everyone know. The waiting room music is still playing as I conclude this review, so the actual wait may have ended up being longer. They say they can make the change for me at a modest cost but that is still in progress.

After 2 am we got a call back only to be disconnected mid sentence. They called back again and again. We were disconnected. Not our phones, but definitely their system. Finally we get through to someone who said can you go on hold for no more than 5 minutes? We said, "Sure," 30 min later she came back only to be disconnected again. Meanwhile the flights we wanted were being booked and now we can't cancel because it's been longer than 24 hours. Still fighting to get this straightened out. I tried other options but the bot kept sending me in circles. I called the customer service number and was on hold for 2 hours. We booked through Expedia; looking for a flight to and from Hawaii. They booked us on two, one-way trips, each on two airlines (Delta was the "ticketing" airline, Alaska was the connection). We decided to upgrade to first class. The agent changed the date on the return flight from 7/9 to 7/19. Then Delta began changing the times of the flights from our originating city to either LA or Seattle. Then Alaska began doing the same thing. Finally, Alaska canceled our first flight with them.

At additional cost, we were able to rebook on Alaska and change the originating flight to make the connection. Alaska Air then canceled that flight. We requested a cancelation and refund. The agent took care of that, assuring us that our credit cards would be refunded due to the number of changes. All was canceled, although we never received a confirmation, which is why we checked. Oops. They never canceled the second leg. Do NOT use Expedia. They are worthless. Do not fly on Delta or Alaska because your flights will, apparently, be frequently changed and/or canceled.

I did not receive a credit back to my credit card account for the approved refund. I contacted Expedia more than 20 times regarding this matter. He told me to accept that is just an acknowledgment. It showed I was going to be charged over $200.00. He said that is just a holding charge. I reviewed and it was pending in my account then went away 24 hours later.

Fast forward 2 days after I get home, and my card was charged that $200.00 amount. I called Alamo and she said that we would have to contact Expedia if we took at their insurance because they were not notified of it. I called Expedia, sat on hold for 90 min for a gentleman to tell me he personally could not help me and that he will have to send this off to another dept. and he will personally call me back in 38 hours. It has been 7 days since that phone call, I just got an email telling me that my refund has been denied by both Alamo and Expedia. I was now charged $200.00+ more than what I was originally told. Needless to say I will never do business with Expedia again. This is heartbreaking especially given people are on tight budgets and I just wanted to take my kids on a trip for their spring break for the first time in 8 years. Very upsetting.

Due to urgent family circumstances, my partner and I had to travel internationally during Covid. We booked return flights from Toronto to Auckland, NZ for September 2020 – January 2021 with Expedia Canada, as we were unable to book directly through the airline at the time. The flight to Auckland was fine, and we didn’t experience any cancellations or changes.

A few months before our flights back to Canada, we received notification that there had been flight changes, and we would now be taking a new route on a new date. I had to contact expedia to approve this, and I thought all was fine. A little while later, another email saying flights had been changed. Again, I called and changed flights. This continued to happen several more times, and this is where the issues began. Each time I contacted expedia I spent several hours on the phone with them.

With one of the changes, I was advised that there were no flights in the same class of service as the “originals” (the flights had been changed so many times at this point that I didn’t know what original flight they were even referring to). They advised me to contact the airline, who advised me to contact expedia. After going back and forth multiple times, expedia received approval to put us on a flight that got us to our destination. This same process repeated multiple more times, with the reps telling me that I had to pay change fees, changes in fares etc, and to call back when more flights might be available.

Then, weeks out from our return flights, expedia says there has been another change. After hours on the phone, they say there are no flights available, and to call back in a week. I did my own search, and found multiple flights that were still open. I finally get hold of a rep who thinks they can help, and we repeat the process of getting approval again.

I then find out that my booking reference doesn’t exist when calling the airline to request special assistance. We are not on the first flight at all. The agent had removed us from our first flight leg and completely changed our itinerary from Auckland to Toronto, to Los Angeles to Toronto. How they thought we were going to get to LA I have no clue.

I call expedia again, get passed around and told that they’d have to rebook the flights, but that there were no flights to get us to Toronto. Again, I did my own search and provided them a list of acceptable flights. Finally, after weeks of stress and 30+ hours on the phone with expedia reps, we were back on the flight that they removed us from, and were getting to Toronto.

After this process, we received a $100 credit to use with them, which didn’t cover the cheapest LAX airport hotel to stay in for the overnight layover we now had. Over this process, I spoke to 20+ representatives, and was only able to speak to 1 or 2 managers. Overall, reps were under trained and unable to help me with basic flight changes (all out of my control). I had to find the flights I wanted to be put on, and then had to jump through hoops of them trying to get more and more money out of us.

This is a travel agency. They are supposed to be your advocates when airlines make changes. Instead, they were the ones I had to battle just to get put on new flights when old ones were cancelled. The hours of stress endured while working full time, dealing with the family emergency, and with a broken leg were insane. I never expected this amount of incapability from such an established company as expedia. I was very willing to allow room for error at the beginning due to the impacts of Covid. But it got to the point where the incompetence was spectacular. To say I am disappointed and will be avoiding expedia at all costs in the future is an understatement.

My parents bought tickets in Expedia and had a flight in April of 2020 to Colombia with Avianca Airlines and due to the pandemic, they were not able to flight. Their tickets were on hold and no charges were going to be made because they were cover due to the pandemic. On February 10th I spoke to a representative who made the change to the flight so that they could use the credit for March to April of 2021. The reservation was submitted. All changes were set for them to fly and received the confirmation email from the rep that same day. The day before the flight which is today March 25th 2021 I was informed by avianca that they never had a reservation made from expedia. Expedia only place a hold of space and never submitted a reservation, which caused avianca to never had a reservation in their system.

I waited on the phone to speak a representative from expedia for about 20 minutes and I spoke to a representative name Karla or Carla. She checked and put me on hold multiple times, told me that the airlines had cancel the flight reservation and it was a lie because I spoke to the airlines and I had them on the phone at the same time. She told me that avianca was responsible and they would have to place the reservation again or give a money refund which is incorrect and false information. She also stated that if she replaced the reservation a payment of $1200 per passenger would have to be made, a total of $2400 charge for both tickets which is $700 more than what the actual airline would of cost if they reinstated the reservation.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and she denied the supervisor's help, telling me that there were no supervisors available and she needed to hang up because she could not help me any longer. She also failed to provide me with the right confirmation and reservation number of the flight they had reserved for March 26 and as I was asking for a manager again she disconnected the call. Expedia is responsible up to this moment to fix this issue, they did not resolve anything and did not wanted to help, providing false information and accusing the airline of a cancellation that never happened because expedia failed to submit the reservation of the flights. Now there's no reservation available and now that there's a family emergency, we won't be able to flight because of the irresponsibility of expedia service.
