Advertised price 25$ plus fees a day. Real price over 100$ a day. 4 day rental was over 400$ which was invoiced to me in the mail. I had insurance and didn't need any of their insurance but they charged me anyway. I couldn't understand the clerks accent and he added options I didn't ask for. This company is totally unscrupulous. I complained to company,....No reply. BEWARE!!!!

We rented a truck and was charged for road services that are already included in the price of the agreement that we signed. We called and had a very difficult time getting them to even answer the phone for one. When we talked to them they said it was an extra charge on the insurance paper. You get three choice ms. We pick the one that cover the vehicle only. It had road service in it that went with it at one price per day we were charged that price and then charged another price for the road service.
Watch what you rent from them. This was the first time we used Dollar rental. I always use National or Enterprise. They treat you right. Dollar rental also changed the amount of the rental per day to a weekly total. Two different charges when it was always on the same rental. They lie and they are a rip off. We are filing with our Bank to Challenge These charges. I'm am not happy at all with this company and will never use this company again. I rent vehicle all the time because I travel a lot.

SCAM, RIPOFF **. I make a online car rental reservation with Dollar Car rental at San Juan PR and through AutoRentals.com. The total bill for 4 days was $97.06 with all the taxes and fees for a small SUV. My Dollar Rent A Car, Confirmation was #:**. The breakdown was as follows:
Taxes and Fees: $29.29
TOTAL CHARGES: $97.09
When I got to the counter the attendant told me that the total charges for the rental will be $198. I got very confused and I show her the reservation confirmation e-mail along with a phone screen picture that I took of the reservation just in case. She explain me that between local concession fees, local fees, airport taxes fees, tire and battery disposals fees, mounted to an extra wiping $100. I told her that I didn't want to buy the car just want to rented for 4 days and that how's possible that all those hidden charges didn't show when I did the reservation. Her answer was that the concession owner can charge what he wants at the moment of the rental pickup.

The worst car rental experience I have had yet. Here are the reasons for my displeasure:
2. Also, they charged me over $12 a day for a toll pass. When I talked to the gentleman when I rented the car, he told me it was a $10 charge, not that I would be charged every day and for more. Might as well have paid the tolls directly.
3. This same gentleman asked if I needed any coverage. I told him no because USAA covers me. Without my knowledge, he put a $96 Damage Waiver fee on my agreement. Because I told him no, I had no idea he still put it on there. That is not ok.
This company is a scam. Don’t rent here. When I talked with someone on the phone (Shay), she basically told me there was nothing she could do and that I was screwed. She was of no help. I will be disputing charges on my credit card now.

Location at Windsor Locks, Ct. and staff was mediocre. Not too many cars available and had to pay extra for the car that we rented. We signed a Pre-Rental Vehicle Inspection Form after the car damages were noted and cataloged. Car had dents, scratches, and gum. We returned the car with no damages from us. 2 months later, we receive a letter from a Collection Agency asking for $1013.18 for damages to the car. Thank God that I had the documentation and pictures showing the damages before we rented the car. Their negligence caused us a lot of stress and thus we will NEVER rent from them again.

I’ve never had an issue renting until I came here. Rented a car here and let them know upfront that I would be going through tolls that charge by plate, they told me that was fine and the tolls would just be added onto my bill. A month later I got a bill in the mail for over $300. The tolls I went through were only $1.15 each, but they added a $15 “admin” charge to every single toll. Would never recommend this love to anyone. They only care about your money, and clearly don’t care about taking care of their customers. I will never use anyone that’s not Enterprise again, and will do anything I can to avoid this company.

I rented a car in Kentucky from June 2 to June 5, 2019 from Dollar Rent-a-Car company. I booked my rental online and the cheapest price was $150 dollars. Well to make the long story short, they embedded into the total price $95 damage waiver insurance, that apparently was optional, but no one informed me of that! When I was picking up my car in KY airport, instead of letting me know about those optional charges, they sold me additional insurance for $26. I found out about that only when I called the company to inquire about the charges. Another interesting thing is there are a lot of charges on the bill and absolutely all of them were either taxes or insurance, there were no rental charges at all. I felt so cheated and ripped off! Beware of that and ask to see the list of charges before you give them your credit card!

I went to their website to book a car out of the Tampa Airport, and was surprised of the great rate of $15.20 per day! I noticed I didn’t input my Dollar Express account. When I did, it dumped out my original information and required me to re-input my information. When I did, with my Express number, the rate changed to $71 a day. Thinking this was a mistake, I tried it a second time, again the cheapest rental was $71. I signed out, cleared the cache on Safari, re-entered the information as an anonymous person and got the $15.20 rate again! This is how Dollar Rental Car treats their loyal customers, by charging them much higher rates, than just a random person visiting the website! It's sad they rip off their loyal customer base!!

When we got to the MIAMI DOLLAR office, the attendant obliged me to purchase a 96.00USD for tolls (for 10 days). I tried to explain that I wouldn't pass that many tolls, but she told me that was the only way. After using approx. 10.00 USD in tolls, I made a complaint about the overcharge when returning the car. The attendant removed the charge from my bill, but on my next credit card bill I received a 104.23USD charge for the tolls. They charged me 9.99USD for each toll I used, with no explanation. Of course I will never use this company services again.

WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A CAR RENTAL COMPANY.
1. A Dollar rental car reservation was accidentally cancelled and I got on the phone immediately. I waited several minutes. The agent on the phone said the reservation cannot be reinstated. She insisted that in order to reinstate the reservation after it was mistakenly cancelled that it had to be less than an hour. It was only 18 minutes since the cancellation.
2. I received an email from Dollar that the reservation was (erroneously) cancelled with the TIME it occurred in the email. I told the agent I have proof and I can forward the email to her. She didn't care about the email and kept saying the time it occurred was in her time zone. I explained that Eastern time zone is not the same as Central time zone. I got crickets.
2. Now the supervisor wouldn't address what the previous agent said about the "within an hour" change. I asked if making the change to reinstate the reservation within the hour is acceptable. I got crickets.
3. Then the supervisor said that the reservation was reinstated and everything is the same as it was originally booked.
4. I happen to look up the reservation on dollar.com and the PRICE OF THE RENTAL WAS INCREASED BY ABOUT $50!!!!
5. I call reservations and the agent was hardly audible due to a rather heavy accent and I finally said I will not use their corrupt company again. To tell me that the reservation was reinstated and everything was the same was a lie. They INCREASED the price and was hoping to get away with it by not telling me.
6. I CANCELLED THE CAR AND AM GOING BACK TO BUDGET CAR RENTAL.

While the total amount of the reservation was 537$, they forced us to buy BASIC insurance in 630$. When we thought it's all, they took 180$ out of the 200$ deposit for “service charges” when we arrived to the drop off point. So a nice deal of 537 USD became a 1350$ (+taxes). NIGHTMARE!

Rented car in Boise. Drove 10 miles East (1/4 way btwn Boise & Mtn Home) when low tire pressure monitor came on. Pulled over. No spare tire?? (Seriously!? Car rentals have gotten so cheap they don't provide spare tires?!) Instead, a flat repair pump kit is in the trunk. Tried to inflate tire with that. At 15 psi, noticed the side-wall had multiple large bulges that were apparent...indicating a faulty sidewall. NOTE: This car should have NEVER been rented w/ a tire that was VISIBLY at critical failure.
Called customer support. Cust service rep's English was so poor that he was almost incomprehensible. (That's coming from a guy who speaks multiple languages and works globally.) After repeatedly asking rep to repeat, I realized he was asking me for an address. Explained to him that I was on a freeway, 10 miles from any "address" and that I could only provide a mile marker. Rep kept insisting that I needed to provide him "an address" so they could send a tow truck. I kept trying to explain that I was on a freeway, 10 miles from any "address" and that I could only provide a mile marker. They continued to insist that they were trying to help me but that I needed to provide an address. (I didn't think people this stupid existed, but apparently, they do, and they work for Dollar.)
(2 hrs later) still sitting on side of road arguing with Dollar, who insists that we'll have to pay for the tow truck, despite them renting a vehicle w/ a faulty tire. Plus my rental cannot be refunded bc I went through "prepay.dollar.com". Wasn't their motto: "We NEVER forget whose dollar it is. Worry-free. Hassle-free."?? I seem to recall my last experience w/ Thrifty wasn't much better. Mental note: NEVER rent from either Thrifty or Dollar again, and make sure you warn ALL your friends.

Bought and paid for a month long US hire earlier in the year through Rentalcars.com. Bought extra insurance at time of booking but when we got to the counter in SF the agent “convinced” us to upgrade to a hybrid in order to save on fuel. OK, no deception there but then she hit us with the insurance spiel and fast talk. She insisted the extra insurance we had paid for would not cover certain parts of the car, so we fell for it and signed up for extra extra! Upon receiving our final receipt, we discovered that what we had paid for was PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE and EMERGENCY ACCIDENT COVER, all of which was already covered by our travel insurance. She had lied to us. The whole rental cost us $3000AUD for one month! The most I had ever paid in my life, and I have hired a lot of cars! Beware the deception spiel. Ask exactly what you are paying for!

Having pre booked our car rental with Dollar through Rentalcars.com. We were assured that we had covered everything we needed. Unfortunately when my daughter and son in law collected the car from Fort Lauderdale Airport they faced a barrage of pressure selling. Without any explanation they were charged an additional $500. The staff member had asked for a credit card and they thought it was to cover excess on any damage but he had charged them. They didn’t realise until they started walking away and then immediately returned to challenge the charges. They were told it was for extra insurance, tolls and petrol. My daughter said “but surely these are optional”.
The staff member said yes but intimated that you’d be stupid not to take them, even joking with another staff member about someone not wanting to take the insurance. My daughter cancelled it and had to pay a refund admin Fee. They were told that the tank of petrol was really cheap at $40. They paid this. Subsequent tank fills at garages revealed that $25 was the absolute maximum you could get in. They were also charged nearly $200 for tolls even though the staff had not asked about their travel arrangements. I have used Rentalcars.com for many many years, their service is excellent but I and my family will never use Dollar again.

We rented a car from Chicago airport. The lady that handled the paperwork was super nice but the people helping with cars down in the parking lot were not. Very rude and let another man take the car we were set up with. We ended up with a very small SUV, which is not what we wanted and had a terrible carseat for our toddler.
Upon dropping the car off early in the morning, no one was there to talk to about our issues or to change the card we wanted to bill on. I tried calling for two days, different customer service numbers with nothing. I emailed as well with no reply. Then we receive a fine letter of a missed toll, tacking on $15 processing fee with a due date of 15 days. I received the letter 4 days after the due date. Would have been fine paying it if it didn't arrive after due date and had to pay extra. This company is terrible. I will never rent from them again. I will pay more to go to someone with better customer service, no hidden fees and actual people to converse with.

I booked my travel plans well in advance. I knew I needed an SUV because I had a companion that uses a wheelchair. I found the shuttle to Dollar car rental a disappointing experience from the start. We got to the shuttle and the lift doesn't work. The response was he doesn't walk at all. My reply, "No." "Oh well we don't get a lot of need for a lift." "Well you do at this moment." So they leave us there and say they will send another shuttle. 20 minutes later a new shuttle pulls up. Fast forward to the rental desk. We go through the agreement and, "Ok I have insurance no. I'll bring it back full of gas. No smoking. No problem." "We don't have your Escape." "Oh we rented that a little while ago." They talked a customer into an upcharge.
Meanwhile I have to transport a wheelchair and I know it fits well into that vehicle. Perfect reason why I reserved that SUV. They looked on the lot oh there is a minivan for an upcharge. Nope. Not paying any extra. Now it's getting late. I have an hour and 40 minute drive to my destination. "Oh I have an Equinox I'll give you for no extra charge." Well I certainly hope not.
Fast forward to the next day change oil message pops up and it stutters on acceleration. Ok drop off there is some cat fur transferred from my suitcase. My daughter has beautiful long hair cats. I showed the attendant. Apologised for the hair. She said, "Don't worry about it. No problem." Then I get a charge for $150.00 for cleaning. Never again I'll prepared to transport a disabled person not having what was expressly requested and charging exorbitant amount for a little stray cat hair transfer. I did a lot of research on car rentals in Europe because I know that it is recommended to use Credit Card Insurance since the one provided by the car companies more than doubles the cost of the rental. I went to Dollar Rentals Website and found that they said that you should check with your Credit Card company to see if they will allow it (https://www.dollar.com/AboutUs/GeneralPolicies.aspx#LossDamageWaiver). I called Dollar Rental and told them I was going to Europe and wanted to rent and use my credit card for insurance.
They told me that as long as my Credit Card company covered all the countries and I had a letter from Chase I would be good to go. I called Chase and they provided a letter for me. When I showed this to agent in Munich I was told that they would not take it and that there was a secret list of accepted Credit Cards that would work. My brother in law used Sixt and they accepted Chase Sapphire. I would highly recommend using them for that reason. I usually rent our vehicles from Dollar when we go on vacation and this was the worse service I have ever encountered! Firstly when we went downstairs to collect our car (which was suppose to be a Santa Fe) it was not ready. This was fine as we were aware that they were very busy earlier in the day. There were 5 people waiting to get their vehicles as well. It was only when the attendant stood you in the lot and shouted to the group of us and yelled "YOU!" Now there are 5 people all standing in the same area waiting on a vehicle and he continues to point in our direction yelling "YOU! YOU!" Now picture 5 people all looking at each other all pointing at themselves going "Me?"
At this point myself and the guy next to me walk forward and the attendant shouts at me "YOU!" The attendant then carries me to a fully loaded car and I say to him, "That's not mine. I rented a standard SUV," he starts shouting at me so I look at him and tell him not to be rude. He then looks at my paperwork again and shows me an SUV and proceeds to tell me "you don't be so rude to me next time." At this point, my husband says to him, "What did you say, give me your name," the attendant covers his badge and says NO!
All we managed to see was the name Juan on his tag. My husband and the other customer who is also upset by the entire situation now because we have all been subjected to the attendant's rude behavior ask for the manager. 'The manager' suddenly pops out of a car (to be honest we aren't sure that he is the manager) because he did nothing except agree with the attendant. My husband then put the luggage in the vehicle and we drove off with no resolution after traveling for so long. I opted to write a review instead!!

05/22/2019 - My family vacation to Dallas. Everything went great until we got to the Dollar Car Rental at our destination DFW with our Manager's Special car rental reservation. We got to Dollar Car Rental booth at DFW around 3:30pm. 4 people in line with one employee. That's fine. We were in no rush. As we were standing in line we started hearing confrontational conversation with the lady rep with 2 other customers who was in line with us. They were older elderly people.
Anyways after 15-20 min wait still one employee, got to the booth. I gave here my Confirmation Number first and last name. Then she started by saying what kind of car I wanted. Well obviously my 2 kids were standing around me so I said I was hoping to get a small SUV or a 4 door car. Computer typing ... She was like sure then gave me a quote of $580 which I've made a reservation for a Manager's Special of $$358.23. I was like "OK can I get a 4 door at least with the manager special." She looked at me and said, "Sure but the car doesn't have a trunk." Lol.
I was like, "What do you mean doesn't have a trunk." She straight up told me the manager special today, is the car without a trunk and won't fit my family. I was like then, "What is a manager special or anything special about it when you are giving me the worst rental car?" Lol. I thought she was joking around but then realized real fast that she wasn't and remember why all the other customers were are all pissed.
Anyways I politely ask, "Can we please get at least a 4 door car that can fix my family." She was like nope and handed me the $580 dollar quote and said, "You can go elsewhere to get a better deal and come back if you can't," and said to me if I can't find anything out there I can just come back without waiting in line again. Oh yeah she was like just don't go to Hertz or Thrifty cause it's the same company. SERIOUSLY!
WTF... ISN'T A SPECIAL NOT JUST A SPECIAL ... IT'S A "MANAGER'S SPECIAL." All you can do was give my family the worst smallest rental car a car without a trunk WTF. Anyways long story short we was able to book with ALAMO car rental for a little over $400. I pre-paid my rental with rewards points. When I arrived at the counter, I declined the insurance twice and they still added it to my rental! They have done this to countless people. This does not happen only in one location but everywhere. They take advantage of people in the middle of their exhaustive travel. When I called customer service, their reply: they can't give me back my money because I signed for it. I thought I was a fool, but after reading reviews after reviews from many different sites, I had no chance. Their victims are female, male, young and old - they have no decency. This is not just a one time mistake - this is standard practice with this business and they have got away with it.
I also filed a complaint with the FTC (1-877-382-4357). When I asked them how Dollar can keep doing this, their reply is that not many people are filing a complaint. So I went to Dollar Facebook page and I shared the info to similar victims, to report it to the FTC and their Atty General, and Dollar deleted my post. This is how they get away, by silencing us. They will continue to say that this is not a standard practice but it is. This is not just a simple "mistake", when you read reviews after reviews of the same situation -this is how they operate and make money. Please read other reviews and be the judge yourself.

I wish there is an option to give 0 stars to this company. I will never recommend anyone for Dollar to anyone ever. Dollar is cheater. First, dollar gave me car after 2 hours of waiting. It flopped my trip from the beginning. I didn't have any options so had to take the rental car after waiting for 2 hours in line. Dollar has given me car at 12:05 am and there was issues in car so finally I get off from the rental place at 12:45 pm where my original pick up time was 10:30 even though I reached 1 hour before the original time i.e 9:30 am. After 2 days I went to return a car and called that people that I will be 15-20 min late than the return time. They said that if I will be late more than 29 min they will charge. I agreed and reached after the 20 min of the return time which is of course within their timeframe.
There was a huge line to return the car and it took me 25 min to return the car. Being their mistake they charged me 3 days car rental charge saying I have returned it late and more than 29 min. Even though it was their mistake both the time they and spoiled my trip. When I am asking for refund they are explaining me policy about them and giving excuses. I will never ever rent again from this company and never ever recommend anyone to take a car from here. Either they should refund it or they should have not charged it. But no they dont care. This is not the way they are dealing with their customers. My friends has and me rented a car hundreds time. Never had this horrible experience. I am sure I will not be alone who will be writing this. Thank you very much for your worst service ever.

My experience with Dollar at the San Diego airport has left me feeling lied to and swindled. I should have known better, but this was my first trip to California so I was on unfamiliar ground. And I was pretty wiped out. Anyway, I arrived at Dollar after 16 hours of travel time. At their counter, out of 14 workstations 3 were open. Had to stand in line for about 1hr 15min. Having booked an pre-paid through Auto Europe, I expected my voucher to be honoured, possibly with a few extra fees. The counter people added fees which almost doubled what I pre-paid through Auto Europe. They were very argumentative and aggressive, insisting that I was required to pay mandatory insurance. They wore me down and I paid. Later, I actually read their contract (slightly over 9,000 words printed on a single 8 1/2 x 14 sheet, all caps). This confirmed that what I had purchased was neither insurance nor mandatory.
I tried getting through to their customer service line to no avail. I decided to let it go, just enjoy my trip. Then came the toll thing, prompting me to write this review. During the trip I went through two automated toll booths. I promptly created an account and attempted to pay my tolls online. I was prevented from paying because it was a fleet car. Again, I attempt to contact Dollar by phone, but when I picked the "toll" option, their IVR cut me off. Fast forward a month, and I receive an invoice. $7.28 tolls and $30.00 administrative fee. Oh, and the due date of the payment was the same day as the postmark!
I tried three times to provide feedback to Dollar through their website, but when I hit send it says there is a problem and they can't post. I actually laughed out loud - it was like having a complaint box mounted over a shredder. I have to say that the car was good, clean and as advertised. But they managed to almost double what I had pre-paid, and have blocked all channels of communication. Dollar, you obviously don't want to hear from me so I promise you never will. If you have to deal with this company, do your homework and don't believe anything they tell you. And don't go through automated toll booths - you will get hit with huge surcharges, and in California the scenic routes are well worth the extra time.

There is nobody who can help. I will have to drive 150miles to reach their counter to change it but, if they want money they will take it over phone. The agent just says "You made the Choice"?
Original review: I had taken a rental for a week, and I called them to convert that into month, I was busy and work hence, could not go to them. They refused to do it over a phone or online, where as they can do all other items online. Also, the agent gives you his mobile number, which you cant get him at all. It is bunch of Con's. Avoid them while landing at airport or just choose the rentals you trust will service you better.

Beware of hidden charges!!! I still have no idea what a "Customer Facility Charge" is... I rented a car in the airport at TF Green Airport in Rhode Island. BAIT AND SWITCH!!! I reserved a full size auto "Impala or similar" and got a Chevy Malibu. The car was dirty. Worse than that the Malibu was in need of a tune up... it hesitated, and ran rough the entire week. Why did I keep this car? It was late in evening, tired from the traveling, and was in no mood to do battle with the rude counter person. Big mistake!!! I recommend you do business with established professional companies like Hertz or Enterprise. A little more money, much much better service!

We called a week ago guaranteeing our 25 and under fee would be waived by being AAA members, when we called again to book this they told us that wasn't the case. I asked to speak to a supervisor and instead, a woman kept repeating the same thing to me rudely rather than letting me ask her supervisor where the disconnect was. Some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. Don't ever use this company. I never was able to speak to the supervisor, and the girl couldn't give me a solid reason. On top of this, I could barely understand the woman.

I just had a horrible experience with Dollar Rent A Car. I choose them because Dave Ramsey recommends them on the show. I love Dave Ramsey and the baby steps, I'm on step 3 and so excited to be out of debt and in a position where I can help my family when chaos hits. My uncle is going through surgery and my dad (his brother) wanted to go down to California and see him so I offered to pay for his rental car. I'm a big Dave Ramsey fan and I have no credit cards. So since I listen to the show, and I know he endorses Dollar, I just automatically went to Dollar to pay for my dad's rental.
I thought it would be wise to prepay for the car to make sure everything would go smoothly. I made a dollar rewards account and paid for the car online directly through the dollar.com website. I set up my dad as the primary driver, since he was gonna do all the driving. Then on Friday, I met my dad at the airport and we went in to get the car. When they asked for a card in his name, he gave them his debit. The card didn't work. I'm not sure why, but he didn't have another card on him. So I asked if we could adjust the reservation and add me as the primary driver. The lady at the counter said since I booked through a third party, I couldn't change the reservation. This confused me, because I booked directly through dollar.com. So I asked what my options were. She said if I had a credit card, I could book a new reservation.
UMMMM, I came to Dollar because of the Dave Ramsey referral and I have no credit cards. Plus it's advertised everywhere that they do worry free debit cards. So I told her I have no credit cards and asked if we could cancel the reservation. She said she couldn't cancel because I prepaid and gave me a number to call. So I called the number and no one answered. I asked again if there was anything we could do? She said we could book a new reservation in my name but would have to wait 24 hrs before we could pick up the car if we were using a debit card. My Uncle is waiting down in California. It was super important to get the car that night - which is why I prepaid and showed up on time with everything we needed. So that couldn't work.
Basically she couldn't help in anyway and couldn't seem to give me any information about how I could cancel or get help from anyone. It was so frustrating to be in the middle of a family crisis and just wanting to help my dad go see his brother, only to face this situation where they had my prepaid money but no ability to help us get a car. I have plenty of money and if they could have just added me as a driver or had some sort of friendly customer support to help me get this together it would have been a completely different situation. So my hands were tied, I clearly couldn't get a car from Dollar - even though I had already paid for it.
The crazy thing is, Enterprise Rental Car overheard and waved me over. They were super nice to me and allowed me to book a car with my debit card and have it the next morning. They even sent me a text and offered to drive me back to my house. It was like night and day, their customer service was so great. My dad got his car is he's heading down now to visit my uncle.
I'm now battling with Dollar to try to get my money back. Turns out they use a company called cartrawler.com to book prepaid cars. So far they have told me I cannot have a refund even though they couldn't give me a car. Their customer service has been super rude to me over the phone. I tweeted to Dollar and that has been the best experience so far, they are at least trying and being nice and friendly but everyone else I have dealt with at Dollar has been super rude to me. I'm not expecting a refund at this point and I learned a big lesson about rental cars. I did some searching and they have so many complaints against them, I wish I had searched before I paid $$. I hope they can do some updates to their website and revamp their customer service so others don't have to go through what I'm going through. This was super disappointing. I'm so thankful for Enterprise, for helping to save the day!

A family of four flying in from MN for a wedding of a dear friend in PA. Waited almost an hour for a pick up at the airport while watching every other rental car company's pickups going past MULTIPLE times. Finally getting to the rental, waited over 40 mins in line before getting the car. Didn't have the car I booked. Was not presented options for tolls; the E-ZPass in the car was already opted-in without my knowing. I live in MN where no tolls in highways so obviously oblivious to the possibility that there will be a huge bill if you don't pay the toll yourself by buying your own E-ZPass. Not told this at the time of rental. A few days later, I got hit with a bill for around $50 for passing through tolls a few times in three days. Is this some dishonest scheme to pile charges? Rude and inefficient staff, hidden admin fees and charges amounting to around $100 dollars and toll charges to top it off. A very bad, unpleasant experience. AVOID DOLLAR/HERTZ.

My rate for the first 2 days was $74.66, the 3rd day $37.33. with a total of $145.77 tax included, $200 deposit. I never got back my $200 deposit by the way. I called on the 3rd day to get an additional day because I was out of town.
I was told it's $40 for an additional day. Cool, Then on the 4th day I asked if I can drop the car off a 10 hour after I was initially told by MIA center that it would be $50 extra. I said fine, I called back the customer service line and they told me my total will be $500 because four days is considered 1 week. They eventually charged my card of all expenses $614. They claimed the car was empty, it was on 3 quarters of a tank full, I was charged $114 for that. If my rate is $37 or $38 a day why charge me $300+ for additional hours. Stay away.

I am a disabled veteran so I don't make a ton of money. When mother died suddenly I had to fly home for her wake. I made a rental car reservation and prepaid online, for later that day. I received an email from Dollar confirming the receipt of payment and my bank reflected the same thing payment made to Dollar Rental Car. Only on the confirmation email did the reservation information say a 24 hour hold on the car could be applied. When I landed a few hours later went to the Dollar counter. The clerk informed me that I would not be able to rent the car until 0200 am and they closed at one. I asked for a refund to rent from a another place and they refused saying I needed to call a website I had not ever been to because they we are paid not Dollar.
I bought a bus ticket and was late to the wake but did make it with 10 min to spare. The past three weeks I have been lied to, hung up on, transferred to dial tone, had to provide a bank statement proving the mi came out. They will give me only 2 numbers to call and who belongs to what number is different each time I have to call back now 23 and counting. I have been told by both Dollar and this phantom website Cartraller.com more than once they will not return the funds to me at all.
Finally after two weeks of 2 hours a day arguing and fighting to have the rental car charge from a car I never rented back, I get one of the liars to admit that it it actually Dollar who routes all prepaid on line rentals to Cartraller. They do this so they can steal your money. Cartraller has no contact info on their site anywhere and any email they send has no contact number, will even delete after 24 hours so you have to save them somewhere else. It is clearly the same company running both. That allows them to not rent to races they don't like and blame another then steal money, charge bogus fees, all sorts of illegal behavior.
Ironically the reason I refuse to use a credit card renting a car is Hertz robbed me before so badly I have never used them since and never will. Guess who owns Thrifty and Dollar. Hertz. How one company can own two competitors with different names. All three have the policies of theft. It robs the people of choice and the market of self regulation.
Almost a whole month has passed and they still have not paid back my payment for a service they them refused to provide me. They have no documentation supporting any claims they have made, they lie constantly, and will hang up on a caller in an instant, they have shell companies hiding money so readily they don't know who pays for what. Hertz rental is the worst company I have ever done business with. They are deplorable. Here it is 0200. I can't sleep through my hunger pains. I already gave my future in service of the country. In my time of morning my only relative Hertz was there with a fresh lemon for my wounds. Even paying me back now would make little difference to me, I work as much as I can out every penny counts. I never thought the day would come that corporations have no laws and answer to no one while we pay all the taxes for their benefit.
I have never felt so openly disregarded. By my government, by my country, by this company by far the most. I'm just a poor veteran with no voice, no advocate, no attorney, living hand to mouth at 45. I am an easy target so this continues until Dollar, Hertz, Thrifty or whoever they are get tired of my pain and I can just sit and suffer. What a fool I have been. This is what I bled for? I go over there thinking I'm securing our freedom and come home to have the same guy I have been getting shot at and by denying me a rental car I paid for in what was my home.
When I left, paying for something meant you had purchased the product. Now it means I may or may not get anything for it. I can again be denied because of my race judged by my enemy a decade ago. Now a license to steal with no recourse by me available, because I was told we were all Americans and it was our duty. In the eyes of Hertz that's just a hustle so they can do their part to sell you out when you come home because they stole your rights while you bled for them.

Dollar Rental Car charges a $15 dollar administrative fee for every toll that you go through...meaning every increment of highway that go through that has tolls adds a $15 charge on top of the actual toll. The Dollar Rental Car near the RDU airport did a terrible job of even mentioning this fee despite having a major toll thoroughfare that leads to the airport. I never agreed to any additional charges at the time of picking up the car so they told me the total would be $208, which seemed right based on the original quote. Later I discovered that a Loss Waiver charge was applied without my consent or knowledge and the $208 I was quoted was on top of the $134 I had already paid. The fee was added to my bill without my knowledge by their employee.
The employee told me when I picked up the car that I would only be charged for the taxes since I had already paid the other part of the bill through Booking.com. I even called Dollar the day I picked up my car asking about the charges and the Dollar phone rep said that I would be reimbursed the amount showing on the receipt when I dropped the car off and that was just a holding fee like a deposit in case something happened to the car. The Dollar employee at the Charlotte airport obviously tried to trick me into signing for the loss damage waiver without my knowledge and therefore this was a fraudulent act by the company. In the middle of our 7 day road trip after traveling on a dirt road the low pressure light came on. We stopped and filled the tire with air and within 10 minutes the low pressure light came back on. We decided to find a motel so we could be safe and call for assistance. When I called the person assisting me gave me two options, one was for one of us to ride with the tow truck driver for two hours to pick up the car and drive it back (as they had no driver to bring us one) or we could wait until morning and call them back and they would arrange to have a car dropped off to us. As it was after six by now and we had been driving all day we decided to wait until the morning.
When I called in the morning nothing had been set up like I was told the day before and they had to get a manager's approval to drop off a car. After an hour and half and three phone calls still no approval. We then decided to take the two hour drive as we could both go. At this time no one could answer whether we could be reimbursed for the room. Once we got to the Raleigh/Durham airport the counter person told us we had to wait to the end of our trip to make any adjustments. We then asked to speak to the manager who offered us a free upgrade stating the other would have to wait to the end of our trip. When we got to the new car it was the same make, model and color of the car we just turned in so back in to see the manager and another car.
By this time we had wasted the night before and half the day and were two hours out of our way. At the end of our trip the Dollar at the Myrtle Beach Airport is independently owned and had no staff on so we were checked out by Budget and again they could not give us answers on any adjustments. Was told to call corporate. So the next morning I called corporate and the only offering for the aggravation was to take the $108 off the bill for the second driver. We said that we would like to get our specialty car and hit the road asap, and he tells us we will be getting a compact class car (most basic option, 150$ less than the specialty segment). We ask why and he goes, "Specialty option means you get a free upgrade if the compact is unavailable and if the next level is not you get one more upgrade and so on." So I said, "Specialty basically means compact then?" He reluctantly says yes admitting the false advertisement (the icon for the specialty was a question mark). Anyways we keep calm and agree to it.
He says we will have to pay for insurance which is more than the car's rental price. I say we take full responsibility and the guy FREAKS OUT! He literally said we will most likely to be involved in an accident in Florida and we are making a mistake. I say, "It's fine, IT'S MY LIFE, MY MONEY" but he was just so unhappy that he couldn't get us to buy the insurance. We take a paper and go down to get the car, no one at the front desk in the garage. The letter also stated that if I didn't pay the fees they would be sent to a collection agency. Last week I rented a car in Orlando from Alamo. They charged $3.95 per usage day for toll admin fees. Why the big difference? I suggest my fellow renters skip Dollar and go with a company that doesn't rip their customers off. I truly hope Dollar goes bankrupt and the people responsible for this policy get what they deserve.

The Rental was at was to pick up the car at 5 pm. I called Dollar around 3 pm to pick it up earlier. I was told that I could not do that, and I had to be there at 5 pm. I arrived to pick up the car at 4:40 pm. There was no one at the reception. I was really upset because they are supposed to be open until 5 pm. While my wife waited at the counter, I did the line to the hotel front desk while calling Dollar. The hotel told me that they have nothing to do with Dollar and they didn't know why the person was not at the Dollar desk. I have on the phone near an hour while waiting at the desk in case the Rental Agent came back to their desk. It never did.
It is completely unacceptable that I prepaid $174.69 for my reservation, got there on time, even 20 minutes before my rental and Dollar did nothing to get the Rental Car. Just a phone number and an email to "maybe" get a refund. The lack of trust, professionalism, the seriousness of this company. I've never expected to be treated this way by a Company in the US. I am not as upset as I am disappointed by this company. I feel this is an embarrassment of the Rental Car Business and living in Florida. I feel embarrassed to feel that this company most likely treating other customers the same way and putting shame on people that come here. This company is not just hurting their business, but also the whole Tourism industry. Thus, hurting Floridians business.

We were a group of 9 friends traveling to Key West via Miami International Airport and decided to rent a 12-passenger vehicle to take the scenic drive down. Dollar Rental was the only rental company to have a 12-passenger vehicle available at this time. So, we went ahead and booked. We waited 45 mins before we could get the vehicle, only after checking in several times with the representative who assured us they were “getting the vehicle ready” and offered us bottles of water while we waited.
Upon receiving the van, it smelled of strong disinfectant (not household, but could have been insecticide in hindsight). We aired it out but thought nothing more of it and went on our journey. 25 mins into our ride my friend felt something crawling on her arm, brushed it off, but didn’t see what it was. We stopped shortly after for food and once we turned on the van light, much to our horror, there were numerous small bugs scampering all over our belongings, the seats, and on the floor. The bugs were roaches!!! We were SO GROSSED out!! We immediately vacated the van of all our belongings and attempted to get a hold of a representative at Dollar Rental for assistance but there was no answer on any of the numbers on the pamphlet. Even the 24 hr emergency roadside assistance DID NOT answer. Are you kidding me?!
We were beyond angry, absolutely disgusted, and quite frankly stranded in a parking lot in an unknown neighborhood in Miami. Eventually, after waiting nearly 35 mins on hold we spoke to a representative who advised us that our best options were to return the vehicle to the airport so that we would not incur “vehicle neglect” charges, or wait close to ~2 hrs for a replacement vehicle. Having absolutely no trust in Dollar Rental at this point and being almost 2 hours off schedule, we decided to purchase roach spray and garbage bags at the local CVS. We bagged all of our belongings, sprayed the van’s interior before getting back into it and drove to the airport to speak with someone in person.
When we arrived at rental center, we demanded to speak to a manager or someone who had the capability of giving us all of our money back for this despicable rental experience! The manager told us that we couldn’t get 100% our money back as we had driven off the lot already and would now be charged 1 day's worth of fees, tolls, and gas. We had left the lot 2 hrs and much of this time being stranded due to this roach infestation. We had video evidence of the roaches in the van and showed it to her. She looked unfazed by it, almost like she knew the van had roaches and rented it anyway! She apologized, and said she would be doing the same thing we are doing right now to get our money back, but was still unable to give us all of our money back.
We insisted on speaking with someone higher, and threatened to call the corporate office because this was absolutely ridiculous!! One way or the other we were going to get 100% of our money back. A few minutes later she came back to us and now said she would give us ALL of the money back. Thankfully we did, and left to get another rental from different company. Dollar Rental will NOT get any of our business in the future. Their lack of concern, especially their lack of responsiveness on the 24 hr emergency roadside assistance phone line (or any of their phone numbers) showed us they are COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE and UNTRUSTWORTHY!! I hope this review would steer you clear of this company if you have any expectations of getting dependable service and a decent vehicle. STAY FAR AWAY!!

The worse mistake was to rent a car from DOLLAR. I booked a vacation package from Spirit. Well I get to the airport exhausted from traveling, then they tell me, "You rented the smallest car, a car seat will not fit in the back. The only option is for you to upgrade and it's 80$ fee ok and also $50 for the prepaid tolls." Ok fine whatever. At this point I needed a bigger car! Well now I go and get the car. All of them smell horrible and none were clean. At this point there is nothing I could do. Just pick one. Now to return to the car they charge me $130 dollars extra for FEES that I never knew about.
I Called customer Service and they told me, "Our system is down and is going really slow, would you like to hold or call back." No. I am waiting because I need to get an answer! Well NO answer. I have to pay extra! After I paid $450 for a rental for a week, now I am paying $700 for a week. WHAT! 100$ per day. That is insane. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN! They are the worse and they are sneaky with all the FEES that they charge.

Paid up £500 up front in UK to rent a Dollar car for our family holiday xmas 2019. On landing in Orlando, Dollar rep wanted credit card print to cover tolls. Then offered me a sat nav for free. Walked off, came back 2 mins later and said the charging lead was missing from the kit, but I could have latest GPS tablet instead for free. Asked me to sign for the GPS. On returning car, got an email bill for the tolls (happy to pay) plus £350 before tax for GPS hire. Rep refused to speak to me about the charge and said I had to wait 24 hours as it will all balance and credit back to card would be sorted.
On landing in UK, email from Dollar confirming charges. Challenged by email. Two days later email from Dollar HQ saying I had signed agreeing to the GPS hire as charged. Explained again the situation. Dollar thanked me for allowing them to review the situation, the charges stand and they hope to be able to be of service again in future. I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor said the same thing. I asked how they were still renting and returning cars and he said, "Oh, that's a different system." I think they are lying. I called the customer service number, 800-800-4000, today at approximately 11 am CST on 1/3/19. Your representative was quite bluntly the most rude car rental person that I have ever dealt with. I was calling to inquire about under 25 rentals for my daughter. Online, it showed nothing down, no deposit but it also didn’t show me the age differential for a 22 year old, which is why I called customer service.
While talking about charges etc, with the representative, I asked the rep why a deposit was needed on the phone, as she had stated, but not online. She rudely snapped “did I ask for a credit card number”. I did call her sarcasm out. She seemed very unhappy with her position in every answer she gave, before and after me stating her sarcasm was heard loud and clear. I did ask several questions about deposits and amounts, etc, as they looked different than what I saw online, which I assumed was my right as a customer. She was extremely snappy and rude the entire time, even somewhat loud as my daughter was sitting beside me and could hear her with the phone to my ear.
I tried to call back but was left on hold x 10 min and decided to hang up. LOST a potential long term customer. I have used another service for about 10 YEARS and have rented upward of 75 + times. The only reason I attempted to use you was my in-laws used Dollar in Vegas last month, for the first time. They probably won’t use again, as the service was also quite lacking in customer appreciation but wanted to try to give my daughter a ‘cheaper’ route, hoping for the best. Cheaper is not better, obviously, and you get what you pay for. So, we will pay for good service and quality autos. Good luck keeping Dollar rentals alive with the horrible reports you will receive.

It appears that rentarcars.com made an error with our reservation, in that we ordered a mid-size vehicle, and it booked us a compact. I was very careful to book a midsize, in that last year we did this same trip and my wife was furious at me for booking a compact. I checked and double checked before making the reservation. We went out to the car anyway and it was clear that we would not be able to fit in the car that had been given to us.
I went back to the desk, and they said that we could upgrade from a compact to a mid-size for double the price because the rates on rentalcars.com were no longer available. At this point I asked to just have our reservation cancelled and said that we’d find a car somewhere else. I went to a different rental car counter to inquire about the availability of cars, and as I walked up, the phone range. I quickly realized that it was the sales rep from the Dollar counter, calling this other rental car company to tell them not to rent to us. I asked and confirmed that it was indeed that same women, calling other rental counters and essentially “blacklisting” us.
I’m not an unreasonable person. I never swore. I was definitely frustrated with this error, but I never treated her or her co-worker with disrespect. I said, in a calm voice, that “I think this is terrible, and no wonder there’s no customers in line here”. I think it is highly inappropriate that she would take the time to call other counters to try and prevent us from getting a rental car. Ultimately we took an Uber to our destination. I rented a car in Chicago recently at the O'Hare location. Besides having to wait in line (only about 3 people in front of us) for over 45 minutes, the woman who "helped" us was very rude and unhelpful. We asked her for the street address for returning the car and it was as if we had asked for a million dollars. She actually slammed her hand down on the counter and sighed heavily. This was not the worst of it, however.
Having lived in Chicago previously, I was familiar with the toll system. We declined the offer to have an I-Pass (automatic toll debiting system) hooked up to our credit card, knowing we would have to have change available if we encountered any tolls. Imagine our shock and outrage when after having gone through 2 tolls (where we got a green light before we paid, which was confusing to us, but we paid our cash anyway), one for $1.90 and one for $1.70, we noticed the metal box in the window that was slid open. When I closed it I saw in tiny writing on it, something like "be sure to close this if you have not opted to activate the I-Pass account on this rental car". We were NEVER TOLD to close this before we went through any tolls. We didn't even notice the small box for nearly 24 hours into our rental! It felt like this was done purposefully in order to be able to fine us for using something we hadn't "opted for".
Upon returning the car, I asked how I sort this out and was given a website to visit. I called the number of the website (the Illinois Tollway) and was told I needed to contact the rental company because the toll had been paid (twice in fact). I called the Dollar customer service number and encountered a worse woman than at the rental counter. As I tried to explain my predicament she actually interrupted and YELLED at me so loudly a person sitting 15 feet away heard her! She just kept yelling that I needed to contact the Illinois Tollway (whom I had already called).
I called back to Dollar's customer service and got a very helpful gentleman who said that I needed to go to Platepass.com. It was wonderful that he was so kind, but he didn't help my basic concern. I didn't want to be charged for tolls I had paid with cash, especially since I was never informed to CLOSE THE I-PASS UNIT or I would be penalized!!!! Today, I just received a bill for $36 for a total of $3.60 in tolls THAT I HAVE ALREADY PAID!!! I am frustrated and infuriated that this is apparently how Dollar works. I have contacted their customer service about this, but I'm not holding out hope that they will help me in any way. Needless to say, I will never rent from them again.

So, I checked rental car prices a month in advance before I flew into Houston to visit my daughter’s family for Christmas. Dollar gave me the best quote, so I went with them. When the female agent printed out the receipt to sign, there was an additional $130 added to the total. She added this without discussing it with me. The extra cost was for insurance for the vehicle, I told her that my Liberty Mutual full coverage would cover the car, but she insisted that it would not, she would not let me leave without the extra insurance.
When I got to my daughter's house I called my Liberty Mutual agent and he confirmed that I did not need the coverage, so I called the 800 number on the contract, and they told me that they could not refund the extra cost, and I would have to return to the Dollar location that I rented the car from and have them cancel the contract and do a new one, well I was 100 miles away and was not going to drive back to redo the contract, so I was basically screwed. But who can possibly read an entire contract at a rental desk with a mob of people around? Guess what, you should do it, anyway. I took the word of the "nice" rental person at the airport desk to answer my questions. I asked point blank, "Would there be any additional charges when I return the car?" Of course, she said "no". Then when we handed the car back we had been charged over $200 for some roadside assistance that WE DID NOT ASK FOR AND WAS NOT OFFERED AND DID NOT AGREE TO. When questioned about this, the ‘Manager’ said that this was highlighted in the contract given to us, folded up when we went into that hell hole. This highlighted charge was not in the contract because the order online did not include this. My partner was made to WRITE a statement of the issue even though he has verbally told you here and now what this issue was and then it will be investigated and will hear back within 24 - 48 hours. Well they’ve had their 48 and STILL NO REPLY. SHOCKING...
Do not use this company, this experience has ruined the end of a wonderful holiday and there is no need to con people. If you’re not making enough money to then increase your prices, don’t con innocent people. Reading these awful reviews, we are clearly not the first people they have done this to. Think we’ll claim the money back through the bank and see how quickly they get in touch with us then...

We’ve booked a car on the Dollar site. When we arrived to the deck in Houston airport they said that our driver license is not valid, though year ago we booked a car and did it a lot of times in Europe. Then they said that they can’t cancel our reservation, can’t change it to the other driver without deposit lost and employee was rude and didn’t want to help us at all. As the result - our deposit is lost and we booked a car in other rental company, where our driving license was good and valid.

We rented a car in Portland, ME and declined the large daily fee just to use Dollar's builtin EZPass device. Instead we kept it closed (disabled) and paid tolls with cash. Everything was fine until the last 3 days in Boston, where all tolls are cashless. Without knowing it, license plate scans were used to assess tolls, then sent to Dollar, who passed them on to us, EACH WITH a $15 "administrative fee". We had two options at the time: open the EZPass device in Boston and suffer the excessive daily fees for the entire 2 week rental period, or swallow the $15 admin fee per toll, eg, 3 tolls totaling $7.65 becomes $52.65 in charges. Although it's in the contract, it has the feeling of a total scam.

I made a reservation through Travelocity because it was the lowest price. Once I got to LGA on a Friday night after my flight was already delayed there was only 1 person handling the counter. So at 11PM after working all day, then getting on a delayed flight I had to wait in a line an additional 45 minutes. Once I got to the counter the Associate could not see my booking with Travelocity? How does that even happen? So tried to sell me insurance which I had already added but thankfully I remembered. Then he tells me that I need to get some E-Z Pass machine which is an additional $30.00 a day to pay for tolls. Supposedly NY no longer accepted cash for tolls. Also if I did not have one I will be charged by NY State like $9.00 administrative fee.
These was all a fabrication as when I drove around I saw there was a designated "Cash" lane for every E-Z Pass. Also if I had gone through and not paid they would of mailed me an invoice with a small upcharge and not $9.00 each time. In any case I ended it up paying $30.00 x 4 which I did not need in addition to other ridiculous fees and taxes on top. Total airfare from FLL to LGA $225.00. Total rent a car charges $320.00??? Then when I tried to dispute it with my credit card Dollar Rent A Car had the audacity to tell me that if the any part of the charges were reversed they would send me to collections. Never again... I find it incredibly abusive for a company to charge you an administrative fee of $9.99 for a $1 toll charge. Even if it's spelled out in the agreement, we all know that nobody reads a full page of small print details. If the state charges the rental company $1, that's exactly what they should charge you. Why in the world do they think they have the right to charge you 1000% of what they have to pay??? This is absolutely ridiculous.

I rented a car at Dollar Rent A Car for my Las Vegas vacation from Aug 21 to Aug 28. I choose Dollar since it had the lowest rates - so I thought. When I arrived in Vegas on Aug 21, they only had 3 cars left at the rental facility, so I took a Nissan Versa. I didn't notice the cleanliness of the vehicle as I just finished flying for 7 hours and just wanted to get to my hotel. When I returned the car on Aug 28, the person at the facility started taking pictures of the inside of the car and asked if I was smoking cigarettes! I said, "No, I am a non smoker," and he said, "Well, it's a $300 cleaning charge for smoking!"
Long story short - the front counter told me to call corporate, on my flight home, I called corporate, they told me to settle it with the Las Vegas people, so I got screwed out of $300. I will never rent from Dollar again. The fact is, I should have asked for pictures before I took the car - but of course I wasn't thinking. The person who had the car before me might have been smoking, but $300 to clean a car?? It's outrageous. It would cost me $1.25 in quarters and some air freshener and the car would have been cleaner than before I picked it up. Consumers BEWARE!! Stick to ALAMO or ENTERPRISE!

Even though I had more than enough money on the card and even cash to cover anything we needed. I also got the insurance coverage. Dollar Rent A Car was the biggest disappointment yet. And the person working behind the desk didn't even try to help me get another car. DISGUSTING!!!
Here is the information from your website about payment options. "PAYMENT OPTIONS: To qualify to rent the Dollar vehicle, the renter must present at the time of rental a valid drivers license and valid major credit card or debit card in the renter's own name with available credit. At the time of rental, an authorized hold will be secured on your credit/debit card provided to cover the estimated rental charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. These funds will not be available for your use. We will place an authorization amount of up to USD 350.00 or 15 percent of the estimated rental charges, depending on rental location and card used. If Dollar cannot secure credit approval for this amount and/or proper identification credentials are not supplied, Dollar will decline your rental."
So they almost ruined my daughter's graduation trip. Lucky for us Budget Rental was able to get us into a vehicle but we could barely get into it "since there were 7 of us". We had to take a car that didn't fit our luggage for a 6-hour drive. The kids had to carry their luggage on their laps for the entire trip. I can't even express how disappointed I am in this ridiculous outcome. I about had a nervous breakdown right there at the counter. It took us an hour to scramble to find something else. They will lose many customers in the future. Even my staff members, after hearing about the ordeal, said they will never rent Dollar Rent A Car. I realized that I had forgotten when I pulled up and I asked the woman if I would be charged extra and she said no that I would only be charged for the gas. I repeated what she said to reiterate and she agreed. So I left the car again with a little under 3/4 full. I then received a bill for $288.67. There is no reason why I should have been charged $78 more dollar for gas when very little was needed. The car was an Altima and there is no way a 1/4 of a tank of gas costs that much EVEN if they mark it up. I contacted them and they did NOTHING to correct the situation. I even sent a picture of the gas tank that I took as I exited the car at the airport as well as the original quote. I would not recommend using this facility as they might rip you off as well.

Ok, no big deal, I just went to a different rental company at a different location (two different Uber rides by the way, of course that in itself was a waste of money). I have tried for WEEKS to get the money back that I put down for the original reservation: $73.71. I have spoken to no less than 7 people. The 6th person I spoke with said that he would process a refund for me. I called back today because I hadn't received the credit on my account and was told I would NOT be getting a refund, not even a credit for future car rentals!
THAT IS CALLED THEFT! I have provided money for a good or service that was never provided to me. They took my money and now I'm just out $73.71!?! Two weeks after the trip I received something from Dollar stating I owe 6.42 for toll expenses and a $60 administrative fee. I am going to talk to a lawyer to get some advice and write the FTC. They should give you the option to pay for the toll or purchase at a lower rate. Most customers don't use the full amount on the pass and they don't refund you the difference. They come out ahead any ways it goes. They don't even send you proof that it was actually you. Anyway when we went to pick up the rental near Albany, NY airport and got us with some extra fees such as insurance coverage just in case our insurance didn't want to cover and a bring the car empty of gas fee so the total was $194.10. OK fine whatever but had an emergency with one of my sons where we had to bring my son to the hospital and end up losing our flight (that's another story with Orbitz).
So we contacted Dollar Rent A Car to see if we can just continue with the rental and drop off in Orlando, FL because Orbitz wanted to charge us almost $2000 to get back to Florida because we did not purchase an insurance (BUT LIKE I SAID THAT'S ANOTHER STORY). So we spoke with a representative from Dollar Rent A Car, she told us OK that we can drop off at another location that there would be a $250 inner city fee, we ask the lady what would be the total price when we dropped off at the other location she told us $364 something don't remember exactly but it was in that range. When I look at my credit card statement there was a charge of $1062.19 to my credit card.

The Dollar representative did not explain the EZ Pass system at all during check-in. If you are in the northeast or Texas cities or other areas with lots of toll roads, be careful ahead of time. If you activate the EZ Pass box on the windscreen for any reason, you will be liable for any EZ Pass tolls if you go through one of its lanes, even if you pay by ticket. If you plan to pay by ticket or cash the entire time, you do not have to pay the EZ Pass tolls as long as you never open the box; but if you slip up by opening the box and/or not paying one toll, the charge could be hefty and it's better to pay the $16/day comprehensive fee. My point is that it is all complicated and you need to know how to manage tolls on your trip. Dollar never mentioned any of this!

I rented a car with Dollar in Memphis airport. I booked it online because it was the less expensive. I was supposed to pay 399.36 dollars for 13 days, for a road trip from Memphis till New Orleans. I made a long trip from Spain till Memphis before, I landed at 10 PM, I was exhausted. When I get the office, the seller told me to add damage waiver liability, theft waiver liability and excess amount, if not I was supposed to pay the loss or damage to the vehicle. It was not written on the website I should to add insurance and I really felt as scammed. If I knew it, I chose another company.
Then I asked for a refund but he told me it was not possible to get it. I clearly refused to add insurance. I paid in 266.31 dollars in advance + 892.68 dollars in the office!!!! It seems the seller didn't understand me to not add insurance! There is a big difference between 399.36 dollars I was supposed to pay and 1168.99 dollars I've paid! I didn't have the model of car I was expected. After I discovered I paid more because of a guarantee and they never stipulate it in the office! Never use Dollar, it's a scam, the employees are very arrogants, everything is done to make you think it will be cheap and at last, you understand you are misused. They mislead consumers.

I rented a car for my family's vacation and in the original reservation, I included a car seat. My sister decided to bring their own car seat so I called a week before our reservation and canceled the car seat. Seemed easy enough. When I picked up the car, however, they asked which car seat I needed. I told them this had been canceled and we did not need one. They said okay and had me sign the paperwork. When I returned the car a few days later, he asked where the car seat was. I told them AGAIN we did NOT rent the car seat. Again, they said okay. Today I received a $104 charge... FOR THE CAR SEAT. I called customer service and waited to talk to someone for 30 minutes. When I finally got a customer service rep, she was unbelievably rude and said there was no documentation that I had canceled the car seat and therefore, she wouldn't remove the charge. Unbelievable. This company is worthless.

In April I had to rent a car from Palm Springs, CA to make my flight in Ontario, CA. I only had the vehicle for about an hour and a half. Before I dropped off the vehicle, I filled up the tank and presented them individual with the receipt. I thought everything was good. I checked my account statement and I seen there was a $400.00 charge and I was confused on why I had this charge. I called Dollar Car Rental and they told me the reason for this charge was because I was smoking in the car. I told them they were highly mistaken since I don’t smoke and there were no passengers with me.
The representative told me that I had to make a complaint with customerrelations@hertz.com, so I did. Ms Toby ** replied to my complaint and pretty much stated that she has reviewed my case and their decision still stands based on their Terms and Conditions. I did file a complaint with my credit card company because what this company is doing is fraudulent and they try to get more money from consumers in the most fraudulent way. Generally Dollar has been a friendly business to deal with. However, the prepaid booking email confirmation did not include a receipt. When I called Dollar to get a receipt, they sent me one, but it was only for the taxes and fees; it did not include the prepayment. So... I called again and asked for that portion of the receipt. The rep couldn't help me... Apparently these are handled through "CarTrawler". The good thing was he was able to transfer me, and I got the receipt, but the process was not pleasant. The first rep should have seen that I had also made a prepayment... I wouldn't have needed to call at all if they had proactively emailed me both receipts or had a way to self help on the web. I like Dollar so hope they fix this.

Refused to communicate with my insurance carrier. Denied my insurance carrier's request to evaluate the requested amount. Set an arbitrary deadline for payment and when my insurance missed it by 1 day (literally, because they had to do their own valuation of the car since Dollar refused to provide the information) they brought a lawsuit against me. Never stopped (to this day) sending me threatening legal letters via certified mail, which continue to this day, even after we paid. Now they are asking for legal fees and interest. He then went on to explain we needed the $37 toll fee coverage since our route would have tolls, again I said ok.
He told us that if we didn't use any of toll fee I would be refunded, first lie. He then offered me Insurance, I said NO, he then went on to tell me I would be responsible for any damage and so on, again I said NO. He then told me to sign, I did, little did I pay close enough attention to the fact that he slipped that insurance in. When I asked about the estimated charges he assured me that upon returning the car I would only be charged for the upgrade and the toll if used... I rental an SUV from Dollar at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA. The vehicle had a Toll Roads transponder attached to the windshield and I was told by the rental agent that I would be billed after I returned the vehicle for any toll charges that I incurred. Over a 7 day rental I incurred $20.58 in tolls. Because the toll reading was done by overhead reader and is billed directly to the Dollar Car Rental account there was no way for me to pay the toll at the time it was incurred. There was 6 separate tolls over the 7 day rental and each toll charge was $3.43. When I received my toll bill in the mail it came from an organization named "Dollar Processing Services". I was charges $90.00 extra in administrative fees on top of the $20.58. Each toll charge of $3.43 had an extra $15.00 added.
I was never warned of these charges nor was I given the option of making the transponder in the vehicle inoperable so I could pay the tolls myself. After contacting Dollar about these exorbitant charges I was only given the option of buying the daily toll plan at $11.50 a day. THIS IS THE WORST CASE OF CAR RENTAL FEE GOUGING that I have ever seen. Dollar should be ashamed of this practice.

I called and was told to take a taxi and they would pay the fare. We arrived in a very SHADY neighborhood. GATE was locked, lights were off like it was closed. Called from the car and the gate miraculously opened. I take the Taxi Fare ticket in and explained what happened to the very large intimidating man behind the thick glass. He said, give me your reservation number. So, I gave it. He said, "You're late. We don't pay when you're late." I explained I phoned 3 times earlier that day to confirm my reservation and get the deposit information. The last call was to let them know my flight was delayed due to bad weather.
All 3 times I was never told my car reservation would be canceled or that the shuttle service wouldn't be available. I said, "So what are you saying..." The guy proceeded to tell me that he didn't have any more cars!!! Shocked because the lot was full of cars!! When I said, "What should I do???" because I was devastated... in a country I had never been, middle of the morning hours (overnight) talking to this stranger who made it evident by his answer he had no intention of helping me AT ALL responded with... "GO HOME!!!" Believe me I lost my temper but it didn't do me any good. I never got a car. Took the taxi back to the airport where I rented a car from Hertz. Lovely young man, who actually prided himself on his customer service skills helped me get into a rental within a half hr.
Now, what I want to know is what Dollar Car Rental is going to do about the absolute despicable behavior of this employee... who I won't mention his name but was the only employee working at 12:30 AM 3/3. While my entire stay was in Stamford, CT. I informed Dollar that I did not travel to NJ. Upon their internal investigation that stated based on the mileage it was "possible" I was in NJ. When asking for a picture of the license plate for the toll charge I was told one could not be provided. This seems like a very strange process that is used to "verify" toll charges (base on mileage). Below is an email I received from Dollar regarding their investigation to the charges:
"Thank you for contacting the Dollar Toll and Violation Processing Service Center. In regard to Notice Number We have concluded our initial research based on the feedback you provided. Unfortunately, we were unable to identify any discrepancies indicating that the tolls reported against the vehicle are invalid. One toll was recorded by the plate on the car the other was reported by the transponder in the car. Dollar has not reported that the transponder was not in the car and there were enough miles on the car that the tolls could have been used. The plate reported by the toll authority was the plate for this car. Would you happen to have any supplemental documentation to submit placing you in an alternate location so that we may further investigate this matter? Any food, gas, or store receipts will be sufficient. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused. Please let us know if you have any further questions."

Our flight from Dallas to Tulsa was canceled and we were on a tight schedule for work so we rented a car from Dollar, one way, from DFW to Tulsa airport. We had the car for about five hours, returning it to Tulsa around 6 pm on Tues. The gentleman that met us at the rental return said he could not give us a receipt because the rental agreement wasn’t complete. He said his manager would resolve the issue and email the receipt. We accepted that and went on our way. Three days later we still don’t have a receipt and Dollar still has a $350 hold on our account. I called and spoke to the lady at DFW. She said they’d had an outage and they were about 1000 agreements behind but she’d find mine and close it and call me back. 24 hours later, no call.
I called again and was sent to Hertz customer service where the lady was so put out she actually said that I could not be satisfied in that call and was sending me to a manager. That was great! I’d been asking for one. I talked to Dian on the escalation line. Zero help. She said all she could do was email the location managers to resolve. I asked for phone numbers to Tulsa and DFW and she said she didn’t have them. Dian put me on a list for a manager to call back within 48 hrs. Really? 48 hrs was the best they could do. Dian said she would try to call me back by the end of the day and I respectfully asked that she call me either way and she agreed. I never heard a word.
Five days later, we still have no resolution. Dollar continues to hold $350 on our account and refuses to resolve the situation on anything other than a first come first served basis. That line is apparently extremely long. We did our part in the rental agreement. We took care of the vehicle, refueled it as expected and returned it to the designated location within the rental period. All we ask is that Dollar do their part and finalize the transaction and release the hold on our account. This is a horrible experience and I am praying we don’t have to retain an attorney to resolve.

I have rented from a number of car rental places in the past but this is seriously the worst experience I have ever had. A few weeks ago I had a car from them in Houston, Texas and everything was going fine. I returned it without filling up and I understand I had to pay some fees for that to which I really can't complain. But what happened next is just wrong. A few days later I noticed that I had some crazy charges on my credit card so I decided to investigate. After all how much do they charge for gas. It end up that a day after I returned it somebody concluded that I had smoked in the car. The problem is I don't even smoke. To add further insult to injury I am driving the car with children passengers the whole time. I did call to explain it to them and customer service was nice enough to credit me $150 out of the $300 charge. They did tell me to speak to the location manager in order to resolve this.
Two weeks later I went back to Houston and decided to rent from them again, mainly because this trip was booked a while back. The manager told me that he could not help me and gave me somebody else's contact info, email and phone number. I did try to reach this mystery person but had no luck. He never replied to my email and when I called the number appeared to not even be active. At the next day I end up getting a flat tire after hitting a pothole. I called roadside assistance and they told me somebody would be there in 30-45 minutes. After making numerous calls I ended up waiting over 2.5 hours. Which messed up my whole trip. It turns out the lady on the phone never gave the tow truck my contact info and they couldn't find me so they left even though I gave them specific instructions on how to locate me.
The next day when I returned the car in order to exchange it they took all my belongings out of the car and then wouldn't give me another car until I provided them with a claim number, for hitting a pothole and getting a flat. I eventually resolved the matter after the credit card company assisted me. After a while they provided me another car and I was on my way.
Then the next day when I returned the car after driving it for less than a day the girl before she even got into the car asked me if I smoked in the car, and I explained to her I do not smoke. She proceeds to charge me $300 again (incidentally) it was the same girl that charged me the last time. I think that they had something entered on the computer referencing to the last incident and they charged me automatically without any justification. Now I need to call and try to get a refund for half of the amount and try to speak to somebody at the location for the remainder. All I can say is never again, I am done with this crappy company. They are scammers. Stay clear. Don't be fooled by the cheap prices. This is how they fish you in.

First off if a -0 would exit that would be my rating for this company. I did my reservation online with Expedia, the total was a good price since they also included an insurance totaling $112.00, I also told them I need 2 car seats since I was traveling with my children and they never told me that would be an extra charge. When we arrived to the airport and went to pick up our vehicle we were told the total would be more totaling $231.00 which was now the extra fees of the car seats (which again was never told to me) and extra fee for paying with a debit card (another daily fee) meaning there was hidden fees of $119 more which was never told to me, it's like I was paying 2 rental cars. When I tried to ask why these charges they said they had nothing to do with Expedia or online. They wanted me to call and cancel with Expedia and do the reservations with them.
I'm not sure if they get commission from their sales but I wouldn't want to give her my commission either way since she was very rude and not personable, didn't feel comfortable with her since I would ask her questions and she did not know how to answer them clearly. When we went to return the car they refused to give us a receipt that we had turned in the car, my husband had to speak another employee and she was the one who helped us after he demanded a receipt. I had no idea that tolls were charged by electronic billing in Texas. I had never even seen such a thing before. After the dollar fine company was called I had a 50% percent reduction. I was told I had an option to purchase a daily "fee coverage" plan for a ridiculous amount of money to cover $3.15 in toll fees. I had no opportunity offered to pay the tolls when I turned in the vehicle. A simpler method would have been for Dollar to charge my cc for these toll fees but to add $15 for each fee is a total ripoff. It's just a way to screw the renter and raise the rental fee. This is criminal and should looked into by the state. No more trips to Texas for me and definitely no more Dollar rentals when I need a car.

They did not offer to refund it then and there, said he had to call it in. I called for him and was bounced around to 4 different people. The 4th person was supposedly a supervisor and he refused to issue a refund saying the reason is in the terms and conditions. Does anybody read those??? No, you just sign up to reserve the car.
After arguing for over half an hour, he still refused to issue a refund. So this company stole $182 from my boyfriend, what a horrible company they are. Their parent company is Hertz, so they will no longer receive business from me or anyone I know. They are THIEVES to keep $182 when he didn't even use a car from them. Horrible customer service, can barely understand the people they have working for them (outsourced to the Phillippines by the way). It just disgusts me that big corporations like HERTZ can get away with BS like this.

Picked up a 2018 Nissan Altima from Tampa International to drop it off at Miami International the next day and besides the $250 security fee they charge if you don't have a credit card, they charged $211 for I don't know what and over the agreed fee of 100$ for the rental for a day, they charged 62$ more even though I had paid for toll pass at the pickup as suggested by the lady there. Very annoying and unpleasant lady at the Tampa Airport desk as well. Total killjoy. Never renting from them again.

Read the reviews and decide for yourself... When I questioned the charges they got feisty and rude.

One should not have to be an attorney to rent a car. On 10/25/17 arrived at Dallas Airport to pick up prepaid vehicle where I was told in the State of Texas I was told I had to have additional insurance. It totaled more than the price of the vehicle. When I got home I contacted them stating when renting using M/C or Visa a person is automatically covered besides that I had explained my auto insurance covers me in continental United States and the charge was removed. I had returned the vehicle on 11/01/17 and on 12/05/17 their fine department sends me, not arriving until 12/22/17, a bill for $7.44 for using 4 toll roads driving that morning to the airport that contained little or no notification much-less gates or booths it was a toll road. The real problem here is there were $15.00 late fee attached to each one of them a totaling $60.00.
Once again I contacted them, explained my dispute. They told me it's stated in the fine print regarding tolls and fines. I also found out they subcontract the fines you receive to another company. I stated, first I rented through your company not your outsourced company, that it is your company that will receive the fallout if I am forced to pay. Secondly, how can your company take the time out to point out the extra insurance (scam) issue but not take the time to point out toll or traffic fine warnings/issues or how to check or pay timely upon vehicle return? Third How can I be charged $60.00 in late fees when I was not notified of fine until more than a month later? Lastly what proof do I have this Company Dollar has subcontracted is not paying the fines timely and assessing me the fines that are supposedly going to the State of Texas.
His answer was he cannot bring up the issue on the screen due to it is with the outsourced company but gave me a number to contact directly. WELL what do you think happened when I called the number (877) 411-4300? It prompts you to a number of Car Rental Agencies and then I pressed Dollar. It asks if you would like to check if you accessed any fines, tolls or traffic tickets while renting your vehicle. WHAT!! And this is not pointed out to you when you either start or return your Rental but the insurance scam is... I am in the process of disputing the late fee through DOLLARRENTALFINE.COM, sending a letter to both the State Attorney's Office of Texas and Dollar Corporate Headquarters. BEWARE!!! and I hope this helps others!

The Dollar consumer service never call me back to give me any update about the Suburban.
Every time I called them, the answer were the Suburban is not fixed yet and when that will be ready they will let me know. I could not give this company 0 stars or minus 5, the service I had at Dollar Rent A Car which is owned by Hertz was horrible. I rented a vehicle for Thanksgiving, I got to the front desk and I told the attendant I did not require insurance since I bought it from Priceline.com which I used to do my travel arrangements. Well I got my contract, which you cannot even read in the little piece of paper they print in on. At the end of the rental they emailed me the invoice for the rental and I noticed I had been charged for insurance. I called customer service and they could not do anything over the phone, what a waste of time. I was asked to email customer relations with the proof that I had bought insurance from Priceline.com. I emailed all the stuff they requested. A week went by so I called to find out what was taking so long for my refund to be put back in my credit card. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to get solved.
I finally got an email from Hertz saying that I have a profile with them and in it states that I needed insurance, I explained to them that I told the desk attendant I will not be needing it at this time but they did not care. I was charged 100.00 for insurance and they will not refund me one penny. Do not rent from this company ever, the car smelled like an ashtray, I had to spray it with Lysol so I could drive with my family in it. The total experience with them was horrible. They are rude on the phone and put you on hold for excessive periods of time. Whatever you do don't rent from any of these companies.

I rented a car from Dollar Rent A Car. While I was on the interstate driving we hit a deer. The accident damaged the car. I placed a call to Dollar Rent A Car emergency roadside assistance. I was told that nothing could be done for me at 3:30 am because all offices were closed. They promised to help me at 7 am and asked me to call back then. I returned the call back at 7 am and was promised that by 8 am I would be picked up by Uber and rental would be towed at same time. At 11 am tow truck comes and Uber never arrives. Tow truck driver request I wait outside while he takes the rental. I refused to stay out in the cold freezing with my suitcases on the side of the road. He refused to wait 10 min and left. In the meantime I continue to wait for my ride. At 12 pm I call emergency roadside assistance and they said Uber canceled and they were having difficulties assisting me with a ride to pick up new rental.
At that time I was pleased that I did not wait outside without the rental. It was extremely cold outside. I was already inside a car without heat being that the radiator was not working from accident. At 130 pm Dollar Rent A Car called back stating that second tow truck was coming out and that this one would not only tow car but would also accommodate my family and I transportation to where a new rental would be available. Towing company arrives, yet they state they know nothing about provided us a ride and refused to take my family. They simply were here for damaged rental. I once again refused to sit out in cold weather without any idea of when I would be picked up. I re-called emergency assistance and requested help. I explained that we were cold and had no heat and they simply apologized for not being able to help us.
They stated that they simply had no way to provide us with emergency roadside assistance and that if anything changes they would call me back. It is now 130 pm I am still out in the cold awaiting for emergency roadside assistance. After multiple and multiple calls from us to Dollar Rent A Car we are still waiting with no help. This experience is absolutely horrible. If I had not refused to give up the damaged auto I would have been out in the cold on the side of the road for over 10 hours now. My son rented a car from Dollar while on a job interview in Dallas Texas in November 2017. Being young and naive in car rental pricing & policies he either did not understand or read the policy and waived the toll road coverage. He says he avoided the toll roads and does not remember going through any toll booths, but somehow, someway, somewhere he was on a toll road. It was a surprise when a bill came in the mail for 95 cents toll plus a $15 "administration fee" from Dollar. I'm sure other car rental companies have the same policy, but I consider this "administration fee" a scam. Dollar made $15 off of us but they will lose much more than that in the long run, as I will never rent from them again.

Rented a car from Dollar Rent A Car Virginia (Norfolk). Unfortunately for me, the airport Dollar employees didn't explain or didn't offered a EZ PASS. Wasn't aware being new that there aren't any possibility to paid to cash lane for toll roads. The city only provide EZ pass. I figured out that I will be send a bill for that via Dollar. I did received the bill, $8 for toll number one, with a "administrative fee" they called of $75. The other one bill arrived $10 with a "administrative fee" of $90. Shortly before that, even though the car was returned full of gas, I was charged $17 for the gas. Luckily me, I was able to provide the proof the car was returned full gas.
Went to Facebook message and explained the issue about the toll roads "administrative fee". The response was, "We sorry you have received a traffic violation that is the reason you must paid the administrative fee." Called the police office Norfolk, nobody was aware about any ticket. I contacted the toll roads of Norfolk, the employees told me that every car from Dollar have a EZ pass and the cost for Dollar is $1,10 monthly per car. I stopped my Amex for Dollar allowing only the cost of $18 toll roads.
A few days ago, I was very surprised to see that Dollar was allowed to remove $83 without my permission, even though the card was closed for Dollar rental car. We understood with Amex employees that Dollar rental cars used a different name "E-Z Pass toll roads". I contacted the EZ pass toll road Norfolk again. They never sent me any request to paid anything. Conclusion, Dollar rental car seems to use another name to extort more money from their clients. I am refusing to paid almost $200 administrative fee for a toll road that cost $18, which I am hundred percent sure, I never drive more than 50 miles the full week I was in Norfolk. Dollar rental cars have E-Z Pass each car. I wasn't aware about no cash lane possibility to paid. Norfolk Dollar rental cars are aware about that issue in their city, won't advice the client. That is purposely being done. Dollar rental cars using another name to access my American Express is a fraud. Be aware of that company.

They never contacted my insurance company although I filled out the contact information for them. They only corresponded via snail mail despite me trying to call them to try to set them up with my insurance company. What I really objected to was the nearly $300 charges for loss of use and administrative fees in addition to the $519 cost of replacing the windshield. I have been told that other rental companies also add this charge. I really do not care, this is truly outrageous, next time I will consider Uber or Lyft. I will never rent from Dollar again, will try National or Enterprise based on friend's suggestions.

Like so many have experienced before me, Dollar's toll policy is a scam. Period. They should be embarrassed as a company for their extortionist policy, and I want to share their costly deception with as many people as possible to dissuade people from using this clearly amoral company. I feel sorry for their customer service representatives who must be fielding complaints from justifiably irate customers all day. Its okay for a company to be greedy; just don't hide it. Just raise your rental rates if you want to make money, instead of being crafty extortionist thieves.
I rented a car for three days in Norfolk for a job interview. I stayed in Portsmouth. The route between these two places required that you pass through a cashless toll charging about $2. I was offered the Platepass at the desk, and declined as I had been accustomed to paying cash at tolls. At the time of the transaction I was unaware of the toll and that the toll was cashless, and furthermore the desk agent did not mention in the slightest the toll roads in the area or the penalty fees incurred by passing through them without a pass.
A month after returning my rental I received an invoice for $67 ($7 in total for four toll charges and $60 in administrative fees at $15/toll charge). I found this absurd. More absurd was the fact that after calling Dollar customer service, I found out that the plate pass cost was $15/day. Either way dollar was going to extort me out of this money. Over the phone they reduced my $67 fee to $50 which was the would-be cost of a plate pass for my 3-day rental. My advice is to do your research with tolls in the area. With the advent of cashless tolls, you are totally at the mercy of the often costly policies that are sneakily and exploitatively enforced by rental car companies.

I rented my car through Travelocity for a full size car rental at Dollar Car Rental company starting Oct. 12/17. It was a reasonable price for the 10 days of usage, until the scam was pulled on me. When I came up to the counter, Gregory (a service/counter person) served me. When I told him that I did not need any insurance, and that I was fully covered he told me to push the RDM button, as that is what he said that I should push if selecting "No Insurance". I foolishly did, not realizing that he had just scammed me to add $26.88 per day to my car rental costs!
He did not tell me there was any additional fee, of course! I did not find out until I looked at my final rental bill, and received charges for $301.12 additional over the already previously "paid for" of approx. $400.00 for this same rental, bringing my total rental cost up to $70.00 per day!!! I called Dollar and told them I had asked for "No Insurance", and all the customer service said they were willing to credit me was 25%, or $67.20 of the $301.12. Leaving a balance to pay of $233.92.
I called Travelocity, and they stated that they cannot do anything about this, but, would refer a ticket to their help desk. But, no ticket number was provided. I will be calling my credit card company to withhold payment, and not pay Dollar Rent A Car this money. I suggest anyone running into this same issue with Dollar, do the same thing. This is a very serious SCAM that they run, as the service desk personnel (eg. Gregory) made a commission on my trust of him as to which button to push! BUYER BEWARE!

Airport) of 50 USD. I also understood that there would be additional fees for insurance... But these were not priced in the quote. The total was quoted to be approx. 200 USD for 4 days.
When picking up on the car everything was prepared and I choose the mid-range level of insurance waivers (not premium) without having them specified in price... And that's when I got ripped off. 200 USD for 4 days of waivers LDW, LIS, PAI, PEC... And I did not react until it was too late. My mistake... Just want to make sure that anyone that get a quote from Dollar, make sure to get a corresponding price quote for the insurance waivers... The only thing she would tell me was that I had to have a gps unit as luxury cars don't have gps, I had to have a toll pass even though I wasn't staying in Houston and I had to have extra insurance as my national policy was not valid in Texas. She even went as far as to tell me that Texas has its own policies that I had to buy and those were the only policies that are valid in Texas. I was then issued a base model sedan, no leather seats, no gps, no keyless entry, no auto headlights or wipers, no features at all that are normally associated with luxury cars as per auto industry definitions.

I did a rental by Rentals Car of a Toyota RAV 4 at the store of Dollar located at Manhattan – 22nd Street, am December 11st, and I'd like to register a complaint about the clerk who picked me up at the Dollar store in New York. The clerk offered me a non-stop toll appliance and, as I found it very expensive, I informed him that I was going to use the car to go to Canada and asked how many tolls there were on this route. I was informed by the same that there would be approximately ten tolls to go and ten more to return. I then accepted the offer but discovered on the trip that there are only two tolls to go and three to go back.
I felt cheated and victim of an attitude of bad faith. In addition, the clerk did not explain to me that I had to open the appliance to get through the tolls and only after passing two with the appliance closed did I find out that it should have opened. I think it should be the duty of the employees who rent a vehicle to explain all the necessary commands for the correct use of the vehicle and its accessories. I was very disappointed with Dollar by the attitude of this employee and certainly lost a client for the next opportunities.
