The check in process was fine. The agent was helpful and kind. When I arrived at my car, it was the only one with the windows all the way down. I got in the car and it smelled like pot. I had flown into town for an event that day and I had no time to waste. I had to drive away with the windows down and get to my event. An employee approached and asked if there was a problem. I said that it smells like pot but I had no time for an exchange. He told me to tell the woman in the booth as I left the garage. I did that. I went to my event, windows open, and came back a few hours later and reported it to the person who I gave the keys to.
Three agents knew. One joked that he hoped the folks at my event did not think I smelled like pot. Then, I get an email stating that they plan to charge me $450 to clean the car of the horrid odor! I reported it to 3 agents and had to catch a flight. I could not stick around to be sure they did whatever protocol that would have saved me the grief. I called them very upset and after a long wait on hold, the young woman told me I would get a 20% discount off of the $450! Um... Absolutely not! I would have taken whatever steps needed to stop any payment to Budget if they dared to try to charge me. Due to the open windows, I think an employee got in the car to smoke and left the windows open. The car would have been fine if not for the odor. The service would have been fine. But there has to be a process where customer complaints are recorded immediately so this kind of business-destroying occurrence does not happen again.

If I could to put 0 star I would. I was trying to rent a car from website and it say that my total price will be $260.99 without ANY comments that this is price without additional fees and taxes. I agree with this and enter my CC number. Wen I click 'pay' I got receipt for $450.57. And this is at 189.58 more than it say originally. I cancelled it in 2 minutes and still was charged $50 cancellation fee. When I called customer service they told me that this is not their fault that website does not say about additional fee and they can not help me. Do not use their website for reservation as this is misleading.

I rented a car and my total with car plus some extras with insurance and tolls came around $201. When I arrived to the location at 3255 W Fullerton to pick up the car I came 1 hour earlier to make sure I can pick up the car on time and drive as I had a long drive to NJ. When I arrived I told the representatives that I know I came earlier, but if it's possible I'd like pick up the car if it's ready again because I had a very long drive ahead and I wanted to make sure I arrive in NJ on time. When I arrived they said the car I rented wasn't even there so they offered me to upgrade to a larger car for free which I took. The representatives seemed very nice to me, little did I know they were lying in my face.
I arrived at NJ 24 hours later and when I got the bill I saw extra changes of $126 + extra charges for extra hour of insurance, tolls etc. so the total bill went up to $488. So the representatives at Chicago location didn't mention at all they were charging me 1 extra hour that almost equivalents to the entire 24 hours of renting a car moneywise. Overall, I think I was treated very badly as the representatives ON PURPOSE hid the fact that I'm going to be charged 1hour of services that turned out to be very expensive. Very bad service.

I rented a car in Budget Oviedo, Spain. Service was awful from first minute. One mile away from Budget’s office I turned my head back and discovered that someone had throwed up in the back seat and they didn't even care to clean it. They didn't provide a contact number for emergencies. I wrote several emails and they didn't ever respond. When I returned the car the office was closed, so I had to park the car, but there was no available place in the parking lot, I had to throw the keys in a box, but the box was nowhere to be seen. It was one of the worst experiences renting a car in my life.

Budget has horrible customer service; you can never understand the customer service representatives and they transfer you from person to person without any resolution or real answers. I paid $1400.00 to rent a vehicle for a week, two weeks later they charged my credit card for using a TOLL ROAD in a different state than Michigan. When I contacted them and inquired why they charged me, I was told for the convenience of using the TOLL Road. Why am I paying a car rental company for a road fee that doesn't belong to them? I would think you'd be grateful we didn't drive on pot-holed filled roads. Then when you receive your credit card statement it won't say what it is actually for, it states it is a gas charge, even though I filled the car to the brim upon return.
Complete scam and they keep the money instead of paying the state that the toll is in. BEWARE, apparently budget is allowed to charge your credit card afterwards for whatever they wish and you won't even know. Also, this is not included in any document you sign with them and the customer service rep will verify that you will have no idea that they are going to do so at a later date. Completely disgusted with BUDGET CAR RENTAL.

Agent Tara informed me that the car to be rented had damage and asked if I'd rent the car. She would note the damages in the contract. I accepted. She did not make a note in the contract and now, 3-4 weeks later she knows nothing about this. Budget's claim agency is charging me for those prior damages, $1800. I am at fault for trusting the agent, not checking the contract, and not taking photos of the car at rental time. I will not be renting from Budget again and I am warning all potential customers.

I recently rented an SUV from Budget Rental Car at the Norfolk, VA airport from 03/26- 04/02, and I couldn’t be happier with the service. Here are the highlights of my experience: Smooth Check-In: The rental process was quick and efficient. The staff at the counter were friendly and helpful, making sure I had all the necessary information. Clean and Reliable Vehicle: The SUV I received was clean, well-maintained, and ready to hit the road. It had ample space for my luggage and passengers. Great Customer Service: Throughout my rental period, the Budget team was responsive and accommodating. When I had a minor issue with the tire pressure, they promptly addressed it, ensuring my safety.
Convenient Return: Returning the SUV was a breeze. The drop-off area was clearly marked, and the staff swiftly checked the vehicle back in. Competitive Pricing: Budget offered competitive rates for the quality of service and vehicle provided. I felt like I got excellent value for my money. Overall, my 7-day SUV rental experience with Budget Rental Car was fantastic. I highly recommend them for anyone traveling through Norfolk, VA. Thank you, Budget, for making my trip hassle-free! Safe travels!

I prepaid for rental 20 days before my trip in Brandon, FL only to come to the location and find out they had no vehicles. Mind you there were vehicles parked in the designated Avis/budget spots. This ruined my entire plans. It may be just this location, but customer service told me to go to airport location, but I had no one on the spot to drop me there. I had to go with Enterprise who was initially $30 more in total but less heartache. Ty enterprise, this budget location is something that rhymes with class. 800 number said I should get a refund. We will see.

We reserved a minivan on 3/20/24 at Boston airport. The rental of the van was from 3/20-3/25/24. Van to be returned by 12:00 on 3/25/24. We returned the rental van 3/25/24 at about 02:30 am. Pulled into the ramp where the sign showed Budget and Avis cars rentals are to be returned to. Pulled in and an older man was standing there. He was crabby and told us to stay in the van until he went around the van to check it. Once he checked the van he then went to the left side (driver-side) back of the van and scanned something. He came back and said ok. My husband asked him if we were good to go. His response was “yes.” My husband left the keys on the front dashboard and said, "Is this an ok place to leave the key?" He responded “Yeah.” All 6 of us got out of the van and grabbed our luggage and went to wait for the shuttle to go to the flight check-in area.
The rental van was returned on Mon 3/25/24 at 02:30 am. On Wednesday, I get a text from Budget saying my car rental is three days overdue. I called them immediately and informed them that the rental car has already been returned at the correct date and at 02:30 am. Informed them that I know they have cameras and can check to verify the van was returned in time. Spoke to customer service (Victor) and he said to me that he would have to send a message to Boston airport Budget to confirm the return of the car at the right date and time and to wait a week to receive an email. So I said ok.
On Sat 3/30/24 I received another text message saying the rental is now 5 days overdue and I also get an email with an e-receipt of $1500 charges and fees. So, had to call them back and spoke to a man called Cesar. Had to repeat the same story of returning the car on time. They asked me what date and time was the rental returned and what kind of rental car was it? Now I’m loud and upset and said I was not paying anything more than what I agreed to pay when I rented the car. He was nice and said he will check and put me on hold. He comes back on the phone and said “Everything you said checked out correctly. Don’t worry everything will be fixed in a week.” I asked what the problem was? He responded that the car was checked in incorrectly. The older man who checked us in seemed crabby and confused when we returned the van. Didn’t surprise me he checked us in wrong. So, I said, "Okay, I will wait."
The next day on Sun 3/31/2024, I get another text message saying the rental is now 6 days late. So… I ignored it since I called them yesterday. On Mon, I get a certified letter that I had to sign for demanding the return of the rental car. Now I’m flaming mad! Called them up again, but this time dialing the number from the certified letter (Loss Prevention Department). Like I don’t have enough to do in my life, but to keep calling them and being put on hold.
Spoke at a Woman called Lileny from loss prevention department of Budget. Had to repeat the whole story again. She put me on hold. Checked a few things. And said that I am correct. Everything checked out and that she will credit my account and remove the extra charges. By this time I feel like I should be charging them for the time I spend dealing with this crap! I was again told to wait another week for the fees to be credited. Meanwhile, the charges put me way over my credit card limit… so I’m sure I will be charge a fee from my credit card company.
So it’s now Fri 4/5/2024 almost a week. I logged into my credit card account. Saw the extra charges from Budget and also saw the credits that was credited to my account from Budget. But, then there was also another charge on 3/29/2024 for $60 which was way after had I already returned the rental car. So, again I had to call Budget back. Can I say I’m so sick of this now. I spoke to a Johnathan. Explain the whole issue again and asked why I was charged $60 days after the rental car had been returned? I reinforced “I am not paying for anything but the amount I agreed to when I picked up the rental car.” He looked into the account and said I was charged a fee because the car rental was checked in inappropriately.
I was so mad. Told him “it not my fault your employees can’t do their job correctly. I am not paying a fee for your mistakes!” He said to give it a week and it would be credited to my account. I will wait a week and see. If not, I’m calling my credit card company and file a dispute. This whole situation was ridiculous and could have been avoided if they hired workers who actually did their job!

I don’t recently relocated to California and needed a long term rental. I chose budget initially because they had the cheapest price. After the first month, they wouldn’t let me extend it so I had to close and open a new contract, after which they raised the price an extra 200 from what I was paying. Same thing the third month, and they again raised the price another 100. No discount or anything for the long term rental like Hertz gives, they just charged me more. The brakes on the car were bad and when I called they told me it was because of the rain. They continued to get worse. I also had no wiper fluid. They would have had a long term customer but I am switching companies. Do not recommend.

I reserved a car in December of 2023 for March 2024. When we arrived it took over 3 hours to get the reservation that was supposed to ready to go when we landed. Not a single apology. Rather a raised price from $567 (agreed to on 12/3/2024) to $875 (charged on 3/23/24). When we got to the car the side of it was damaged, there was left over garbage and dog toys in the bed, it had clearly been smoked in, and the car seat that was supposed to be ready was in a pile of broken car seats for us to have to pick through in hopes to find one that worked for our infant. Still no apology or offer of help. We returned the car the day we were supposed to on 3/30/24 with a full tank of gas.
When we reached the airport terminal my card had already had a new charge added to it for $1,044.20. They have charged for gas, extra days of usage, a convenience fee of waiting for the car and dealing with their lack of customer service. I have submitted receipts proving the gas was put into the car 15 minutes before the car was left in their possession and still nothing is being done. Rather they are standing firm on that the money will not be returned. The agreed upon price is not being honored as they are adding erroneous charges and this is going unchecked and unpunished as Google reviews will go to show.

We took a trip to Washington, DC to visit my son and his new baby. We used Budget as our car rental service and when we arrived at the airport we found out that the Budge rental pick up was off site. We took the shuttle which was efficient and picked up our car. We were short of time and when we got into the car we noticed heavy smoke odor, but we had no time to exchange it as we had an appointment. We did not use the car except to and from the airport since we did not feel safe transporting the new baby in the vehicle. I have contacted Budget 5-6 times with no response either by phone or email, even though they say a manager will call me back. I have dates/ times/ names who I have emailed noted to take further action.

I hate Budget. It's a bad company and it doesn't respect the customer. I am really disappointed with Budget. I rented a basic gas car and when I went to pick it up at the West Palm Beach airport they told me that there was no basic car and only an electric car. I was with my 17-year-old daughter celebrating her birthday and I didn't want to create a problem by taking the electric Mustang. When I had been driving for 15 minutes, one of the tires said it was low. It was 11 o'clock at night and I kept going. When I arrived at my destination on the beach in Fort Pierce, Florida, I used the car for a walk and the battery was running low. When it came time to fill up, there was no place to do so. After a lot of trying, I went to Ford and they gave me a charge. I went to two Budget stores to try to recharge the car, change the car or get a charger.
Both treated me badly and said they weren't going to do anything and that it was the airport store's fault. They said they had a lot of electric cars sitting idle and weren't going to do anything. When I went back to Ford they told me to go to Campaign Park where there were two chargers. One of the chargers was broken and the other, after having to install an app and enter all my personal details, I managed to recharge 30% in two hours. Even though it was Fast Charge. I managed to have enough charge to get back to the airport.
The disrespect didn't stop. There was no one to collect the car, let alone transport it to the airport. As I was leaving the car, I saw a doorman who told me that he didn't receive cars and that there was nowhere to leave the keys. After I convinced him that I was going to miss my flight, he kept the keys. I wasn't the only customer to experience this. My daughter and I had to walk 30 minutes down the road to the airport in the early hours of the morning at the risk of being run over.

Didn’t have a reservation and the agent at Tampa Airport tried to charge $900 for 3 1/2 days. He stated that I should be ready because rates are way up. He told me that Budget requires mandatory insurance coverage for all walk up renters. Total lie. Might be illegal. He is obviously paid to force insurance on people. Stay away from Budget/Avis. Felt like I was on a used car lot.

Avis and Budget are combined so this review goes here too. I reserved a 12-passenger van on November 13, 2023 for a trip March 7, 2024 from Tampa International Airport. There were 8 of us going to New Orleans with luggage. I rented this vehicle far in advance to make sure I was able to reserve it. On March 7th I drove over 60 miles from my house to Tampa International. It then took me another 45 minutes to even find the Budget rental desk. Once I got to an agent, I waited another 15 minutes while he walked away to whisper in his walkie-talkie, to have him come back and say he didn't have one available. He then proceeded to tell me and I quote, "It's peak season and Budget will and does overbooked, but I can give you two small passenger vans".
What?? I have had this van reserved for 4 months!! Two of us are 100% disabled veterans and the point of renting ONE car was so the driving would be easier on us. I then had to drive another hour home. 4 hours of my day gone to be told a rental I reserved 4 months early wasn't there because Budget overbooks. NO PHONE CALL, NO TEXT, NO EMAIL was sent to me telling me this. Instead, I had to drive over an hour each way and search the airport for the customer service desk to THEN be told there was NO reserved rental waiting for me. This is inexcusable!!

It's hard for me to give them even one star! This is the complaint I logged with Budget Rental Car: I was part of an upselling scam at Harry Reid Airport Budget counter on March 14th, 2024. Even though I declined "Protections and Coverages" on my reservation, I was told by Lucas, the counter rep, that it was MANDATORY that I select an option for coverage from the plastic sheet. Lucas assured me TWICE verbally at my questioning that I would only be charged if there was damage to the car upon return and that it was just a HOLD on my credit card. Apparently, that was not the case as I have been charged the full amount of $186.98 ($170+16.98) on my card.
After a lengthy conversation with your customer service agent. I have been refunded half of the amount charged. That is not reasonable. I would bet that Lucas is compensated by Budget for this upsell, so I hold Budget liable as well and wonder how many others are being deceived? I would like Lucas AND Budget Rental Car to be reprimanded AT LEAST and will be placing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General’s office for deceitful practices and upselling. The two customer service reps I talked with Sunday, March 24th and today, March 26th, denied the the Mandatory damage coverage in their policy.

This was my first and last time renting from Budget. When we got there they didn't have a car for us, we had to get a small SUV. The truck was dirty, it had food crumbs in the front seat, passenger seat and something sticky in the cup holder (Which is not at the bottom on my phone case). When we took the SUV back, we uploaded our bags and she asked for the keys. She started the SUV up and said I will be charged $17 because the needle was not directly on Full, it was one notch from the F. So since we still had time I asked if I could get the keys back and put a few more dollars in the tank to put it directly on the F. She said she closed out the ticket already and I would have to go to the window to start a new rental altogether in order to do that. That was very underhanded, she could have said something when she started the SUV up and noticed it. I will be taking my business to any other rental place. This happened on March 19, 2024, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!

I've, thankfully, not been required to rent a car more than three times. However, following an experience I had today while assisting a family member in getting a rental I can say, with certainty, that I will NEVER rent from this company. She was having issues getting the car because of her credit. I was willing to rent the car for her and add her as an additional driver. While I was filling out an online reservation form, because the clerk REFUSED to make the reservation in house even though her car was there and waiting, she was looking at another company to see if we could get it through them and I wouldn't have to foot the bill. At that point, the clerk clapped his hands and stated "we no longer have any cars available for reservation". We didn't argue and walked out. At that point, the clerk locked the door behind us.
We were not rude. She was upset and frustrated, she tends to get upset but she wasn't screaming at him or being abusive, just obviously upset. She was trying to go upstate for a funeral that her personal car was in no condition to make the drive up for. I have NEVER in my life been treated in such an unprofessional manner. Original Review: When I returned the car at MIA there was huge line of cars waiting for the Budget return. There was not enough Budget staff to process the returns and it was extremely chaotic situation. I was told by your employee just to leave the contract on the dashboard and that the car is officially returned. He did not provide me with any receipt even when I asked. He said “All is good, don’t worry, you can go”. That was at 5:10 pm. Exactly at that time my rental contract ended and my credit card on file should have been removed by Budget from The Highway Toll Authority for any charges incurred after that time. Not only were we charged $17.28 for fuel (we filled the car right next to the airport), we were also charged for two tolls we did not go through.
The fact that Budget allowed my credit card to be charged by The Highway Toll Authority for charges incurred after the rental contract ended is their fault and they should work on the resolution of this. Even after I contacted The Highway Toll Authority (as Budget suggested) since they did not give me receipt when I returned the car, I cannot prove that the car was not driven by me through the two tolls. This is a scam. Budget is willfully and knowingly giving all customers overcharges in small amounts, $17.00 here, $8.00 there) in the hopes people won't call them out on these little charges. Beware of this car rental company. I feel a class action lawsuit coming on.

Well when you call customer service and they explain if you drop at a different location you may get a small drop off fee but must likely not. Well I did drop and I don’t consider $300.00 a small charge on a $450.00 rental agreement, so I call customer service and as per usual the first person says I need a manager, rudest female agent I have ever spoken with, won’t get into the details of her rudeness but bottom line is she said her employee I spoke with mislead my son and myself as we had 2 rentals. I had called when I booked and asked again at pick up and was told it wasn’t going to be a problem.
So we drop off at the other drop off and the check in guy said, "That’s ridiculous fee on your bill." He said, "Talk to the writer at the desk. He can definitely help," he was able to reduce to 150 instead of 300 and told us to call customer service tomorrow and they can remove the rest, they pretty much laughed at me and said another manager would call me back, been 12 hours. Nothing yet, at least this person wasn’t rude to me. Hopefully hear tomorrow at some point but I won’t hold my breath as I was told I would get emails from both people I spoke to and I have received nothing. One be 36 hours and other 12. Basically they don’t care about their customers and I will walk before I ever rent here again.

When I arrived at the Budget garage parking area at Norfolk International Airport ORF to drop off my vehicle, the two staff members in that area told me I needed to go down to the desk in the airport to close out my account because they didn’t know how to do it. I thought that was odd but I went with it. When I got to the counter I stood in the Avis line because they were the ones that gave me the vehicle when I arrived in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago and there was no line. The Avis representative told me she could not help me because it was a Budget vehicle.
I explained to her that she was the representative that issued me the vehicle when I got here a few weeks ago. She then proceeded to tell me that she could not help me because she did not have Budget's website up at the moment, and directed me to go stand in a very long line at Budget. This was very aggravating because I had a plane to catch and did not expect this unnecessary delay. After waiting for about 30 minutes to turn my keys in and close out my paperwork, the lady at the Avis desk who still did not have a line at her desk, and could not help me 30 mins earlier called the gentleman behind me in the Budget line so she could help him.
A lady named Laura at the Budget desk that helped me was shocked that the Avis representative did that. Laura was very helpful and apologetic about my situation but the lady at the Avis desk could care less, even after I told her I had a plane to catch. She just looked at me and said, “What do you want me to do about it?” To add insult to injury while rushing to the gate I received a call from a Portsmouth, Virginia number which was another Budget/Avis representative to ask me if I turned my keys in when I dropped the car off in the garage. So, I had to stop what I was doing to explain the whole situation over again. One job Budget rental car, one job. Thanks to Laura at the Norfolk Budget desk, she is the only one in the series of events that help me make it to my flight on time.

I returned my Budget rental car to the Tampa airport on February 18th. My ear buds fell through a hole inside the console and could not be reached so Ilona told me they needed to get a mechanic to get them out and that she would send them to me. She told me to go to the budget lost and found website and file a report to confirm everything so I did that and it showed that they found them. According to the website I have to pay $38.71 to have them shipped to my home even though I didn't forget them and leave them there. They're there because it is Budget's fault my ear buds are still in Tampa!
I called the number Ilona gave me, **, to talk to her if I had any questions. When I first called the lady said they would let Ilona know that I called and she would call me back but she never did. I have called that number numerous times since then and nobody answers the phone. Finally someone answered the phone yesterday and told me that they would pass this on to Mike who is the lost and found manager and he would call me. Of course he never did. Now I tried to call again and of course nobody answers the phone. When I called customer service to explain this to them they said there's nothing they can do about it. You have to deal with the local office in Tampa, but no one in Tampa will answer the phone or return any of my calls! Stay away from Budget!

I rented a car in LA and the service was HORRIBLE. I will never rent with them again. The cost when booking online appeared lower, but all the extra charge once there made it the same as their competition, if not more. I had requested a car by 1pm and didn't get it until 7pm ... The 1st thing was getting off the terminal: shuttles for all other rental companies were coming about every 5-10 min. We waited over 1h to see the 1st Budget shuttle, and it finally arrived. It was full. The line was too big to fit in the 2nd one so we had to wait for the 3rd one (about 2 hrs waiting). When we finally arrived on the rental site, there was a crazy line at the counter (hundreds of people). It was raining that day and the line was so long that most of the wait was outside, with no roof to protect us from the rain (for info, I was travelling with a toddler and a 8 month pregnant woman, yet no one came to offer them a sit or shelter inside... Actually, they were denying access to the office because it was too crowded).
After waiting about 2.5 hours ... the person at the counter gave us attitude (probably tired and frustrated to deal with tired and frustrated people). I was told I could only get a 2 seater convertible (when I had rented a standard size) which didn't work because I needed a child seat in the back. She left for 15 min and came back saying they only had pick up trucks which I declined. She left for another 15 min and finally gave us the key to a standard size. I had to wait another 15 min because I was not given a baby seat (which was in my reservation, it was also obvious because my toddler was with me and I had declined the previous cars because I needed the seat ...).
When I walked to the parking lot, there were hundreds of standard size cars on the parking lot!! Almost only standard size cars. They may have been reserved, but I had reserved one so I don't know why we waited an extra hour at the counter for that... The car also had low tire pressure and the tank was not full (missing a little bit but no one was there to assist). When I specified this exiting the lot, I was told I had to go back inside and ask them to adjust the contract or refill (which I didn't want to do after going through what I had to go through). Anyway, this was the worst rental experience I ever had. I usually don't even wait when renting with Enterprise or Hertz (I can go direct to the car and pick what I want from a selection available). Not only it turned out to be more expensive, but we went through a really bad experience and had a lot of attitude. Avoid at all cost, the rental will not be less expensive as it seems when you book online.

The full size car we reserved wasn’t available in MIA then they found one after us waiting for an hour. The car we got had high mileage and in need of service. The tires were making noise, the horn did not work at all and the key fob was working occasionally probably due to low battery. After calling customer Budget customer service they told us, "Bring the car back if you not happy." So for us to drive to MIA and exchange would be a waste of a day of our planned vacation. So terrible and old car with poor service and zero accommodation from Budget gets it **at most.

My husband and I arrived at New Orleans airport with a late night flight from New York after midnight. We picked up a car at Budget Rent A Car based on our reservation. The SUV (Ford Edge) they gave us was a complete piece of junk. Within 5 minutes of driving on a highway after exiting the airport, it started to make loud metal scraping noice from underneath the car. It got worse within another 5 minutes which forced us to stop by the side of the road because it was unsafe to drive.
We called Budget’s roadside assistance number. By this time it was 1:30 am. After giving all the information, we were told that the one towing company in town won’t get to us until 3:30-4:00am and there’s nothing they can do. The rental car attendant at the airport was so unprofessional and didn’t even try to check the condition of the car (the usual inspection of scratches etc.) until I mentioned about several dent and scratches. I have never experienced such problems with all the traveling we do. I simply cannot believe a company is allowed to do rental car business when they don’t even inspect the safety of the car before they send the customers out to the road exposing an extremely dangerous situation. It’s 2:50am as I write this review on the strange town we are visiting for the first time waiting for the tow track to arrive who knows when.

My recent experience with Budget Car Rental was profoundly disappointing, marked by a series of egregious lapses in service and ethics. Despite my expectations of a smooth and reliable rental process, I encountered a myriad of issues that left me deeply dissatisfied. First and foremost, the service provided by Budget Car Rental was nothing short of abysmal. From the onset, it was apparent that customer care was not a priority. Communication was lacking, and any attempts to address concerns were met with dismissiveness and deflection. One of the most egregious aspects of my experience was the false charging under the guise of toll fees. Despite the vehicle never leaving the state during the rental period, I inexplicably received a toll bill. This unauthorized charge not only inconvenienced me but also resulted in my account being overdrawn, leading to additional fees and the need to dispute the transaction with my bank.
Adding insult to injury, Budget Car Rental and the toll handling company are evidently sister concerns, complicating matters further. Despite assurances of resolution, the two entities continually passed the buck, effectively washing their hands of responsibility. This lack of accountability is deeply concerning and indicative of systemic issues within both organizations.
Based on my harrowing experience, I unequivocally advise prospective renters to steer clear of Budget Car Rental. The risk of encountering similar issues far outweighs any potential benefits. However, if one finds themselves inadvertently booked with Budget, I implore them to take preemptive action by promptly stopping their card transactions post-rental. Failure to do so may result in further unauthorized charges, exacerbating an already untenable situation. In conclusion, my interaction with Budget Car Rental was marred by incompetence, unethical practices, and a blatant disregard for customer well-being. It is my sincere hope that my testimonial serves as a cautionary tale and prompts the necessary reforms to prevent others from enduring similar tribulations.

They said they would send a tow truck which never came that evening. They offered a replacement vehicle at the airport 2 hours away and the only mode they offered to get us there was a Uber. But Uber does not service that town.
We finally paid a local resident to drive us to the airport. We passed the disabled vehicle on the way down. Then the car alarm started going off at random times--in the middle of the night, early in the morning, at the hospital, at stores, at restaurants--multiple times each day for two weeks. On top of that when I requested extensions on my car, the rates doubled each time. Idaho Falls customer service said nothing could be done. When I contacted the company, the remediation was to reimburse $50.00 of the $1200 dollar rental fee--4% for the "inconvenience" of the faulty key fob. Our journey took us from Eugene, Oregon to San Francisco, tracing the scenic route along the West Coast Highway and visiting beaches en route. The pictures accurately depict traces of sand from our explorations, particularly on the floorboards. When we arrived in Burlington, after waiting in line for over an hour, we were told that the car that we had rented was not available and that we could have either an electric car, or a minivan. We opted for a Chrysler minivan, drove 12 miles to our hotel and spent the night. When we drove the car to our relative’s house, 5 miles from the hotel, the tire light came on and the display said that it had 9 lbs. of pressure in the tire. We parked at our relative’s house and called the Budget office at the pickup location. We were asked to bring the car in the effect and exchange. I said that I was unwilling to risk damage to the tire or the rim by driving on it and asked to have a car delivered to exchange it, since we were not given the correct car in the first place. They refused and gave me the number of the roadside assistance, which I called.
The roadside assistance came and since there was no spare tire in the vehicle (!!!), he just put air in the tire and suggested that I immediately drive to the airport to exchange it which I did, interrupting a family dinner to do so. This took over an hour. After exchanging the car, I realized that I had left a brand new, never been used, pair of Canon binoculars in the side door pocket. I went by the airport again but the car was gone, so I went to the desk. At the desk, they could not even find a record of the original rental, only the new rental, but said that they would contact the location where the car had been taken to retrieve the binoculars. They refused to give me either the location of the facility or the phone number, so that I could contact them directly to go by and get them, which seemed to me to be the simplest solution.
To make a VERY long story short, after many, many calls to the airport, to the lost and found department, to the repair department, I have not had the binoculars returned. They were obviously stolen by someone at the repair location, or they would have been returned. I did decline the Personal Accident and Effects on the contract, so I knew that I had little hope of Budget doing the right thing and covering my loss, but to add insult to injury they requested money for a repair that happened after the car had been driven 12 miles. I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company, but they have sided with Budget.
If the car had had a spare tire, I would have changed it myself and driven back to the airport to exchange the car. The only reason that roadside assistance was needed was because Budget provided us with a car missing essential equipment and did not notify us of that fact. I will NEVER rent from Budget again and will also encourage others not to do so.

I wish I could give a 0 star rating. I booked a car rental for Jacksonville Airport through Costco Travel. I thought I received a good price until I realized they overcharged me. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it until after I got home from our vacation. Budget Rental Car refused to refund us the money even though I showed them the receipts proving we paid for gas.
It all started with a long wait for assistance at the airport counter. We had to wait even further being told they didn't have any cars available. Then finally we went to the garage to pick up the car, and of course, there was no car ready. More waiting. When we finally got a car it reeked of cigarette smoke. It stunk the entire five days we had the car. We even spent about $20 on air fresheners. Budget refused to make it right. I will never use Budget Rental car again. You should never use Budget Rental car. Look at all the terrible reviews. Stay away.

Reserved a Camry with a prepaid contract (or equivalent) for a week in October. When we arrived at the location after midnight the agent had nothing available. Didn't want a van, a truck, or electric vehicle, but finally accepted a Dodge with the promise of an exchange if we return. We returned and they offered an equivalent vehicle, a Malibu, but when we found it in the lot, it looked like it had been in a rollover accident. There was too much damage to drive off the lot without risking a claim against us. We got back in line to be told that the lot agent outside will help us. No other equivalent vehicles were available, so we got in line for a replacement, which is when we were offered a Corolla. We took it and when we returned it we got taken.
They charged us for week of eToll service, although we never signed up for it. They charged us for refueling in spite of our stopping at a gas station on our way to the lot. So after refilling the tank, I was charged over $70 to refill the full tank. There we paid for a weeks rental of a class of car that was never provided. Provided the eToll service for a week that we never requested and charged to refill an already full gas tank. The 2nd charge to my credit card was for $271. By my calculations, they should have made only a $25 charge, but refunded $100 for never providing the class of vehicle reserved for and prepaid.

We pre-paid for a week's rental through Budget's web site. Rented a car in Salt Lake City. Days after turning in the car we see an extra $624 charge on our card. It took weeks before we could get an answer for the charge. The car was turned in before the office was open, so we never saw the extra charge. Plus, they never sent us an email with the final bill. It wasn't until we disputed the extra charge, and then weeks later, we actually saw the final bill. The Salt Lake "local" office added an upgrade charge to the car, which we did not ask for, and charged hundreds of dollars for a "young adult" driver. We were not told there would be these charges.
After disputing it with the Salt Lake office they refused to change it. They said they are not "corporate" and can add on their own fees. When you rent a car from the web site you are not actually getting a full view of the cost since the "local" office can add on more and you do not know it when reserving a car. Very deceptive. We will never again rent a car from Budget. Our advice to all: DO NOT EVER RENT A CAR WITH BUDGET.

Rented a car from Budget in Newington, CT. Once I walked in I knew I should have turned around and left. The place was very unprofessional and ghetto as all hell. I paid for a full size and they gave me a compact which they did not adjust the price and which the battery in the key needed to be replaced. I had to bang the key to get it to work so I can get home from work. I called and they said go to any budget and swap. I went back to Newington which was a waste of time so I had to go to a different budget at Bradley International Airport. They were professional, friendly and it actually looked like a rental company. I should have went there from the beginning to be honest.
I had the rental for 7 days prepaid and when I dropped the vehicle back off at the Newington location I was charged $690 which they can not give an answer as to why. So when I called budget costumer service which was no help and they got upset because I asked for an English speaking manager. I let them know this company needs to be shut down because they are very unprofessional and are scamming people and I will never rent from budget again. We had a 13 day car rental in Lisbon. The signed rental agreement and charges within were completely disregarded, and we were charged double upon returning the car. When trying to contact Budget, you reach a customer service department in North America that sends a request to Budget International who is supposed to be contacting the rental location. There is no follow up at all. They advise they need up to 30 days, not for a full investigation, but just to receive a response. Every individual response begins the 30 day clock again. There is no process for escalation if the location does not provide a response. After weeks of nothing, we called the Lisbon location ourselves and finally got agreement that there was a billing error.
The staff did not even try to reconcile back to rental agreement, we had to do that and spell out exactly why all charges that were supposedly “additional” to rental agreement, were actually already included! After multiple back and forth, we still don’t have acknowledgment on the full discrepancy, which is over $1000 US. When we call, we are told to wait for further explanation. But there is none, they just try to charge as much as possible to see what they can get away with. The customer service is atrocious and can only be described as abusive consumer practices.

Beware!!!! This experience was absolutely horrible!!! We were on vacation and had prepaid for our gas powered rental. We were traveling 30 miles to our destination to spend the weekend and 30 miles back. We were offered an upgrade for $29 total to an electric vehicle. They sold us on the fact that we wouldn't have to put fuel in it (being electric) and as long as it came back with a 70% charge we would not be charged anything for using the 30% battery so it would save us time and money on our trip.
We had never used an electric vehicle before. We received no tutorial on how to charge the vehicle as it would be unnecessary since we were traveling 60 miles total and the vehicle had a 300 mile range. We made it 25 miles when the battery warning light came on stating the vehicle had 12% battery left. They gave us a vehicle with a dead battery!! We spent 2 hours trying to find a charging station that was available and wasn't for Tesla only. After finding an available charger we spent an hour trying to figure out where the charging port was and how to charge the vehicle. We had to download apps on the phone and figure out how to attach a debit card to the app so we could then use the charger. Then spent 2 hours charging the vehicle to gain 40 miles worth of a charge.
By the time we were hooked up to this charger we were at 8% battery. This was enough to get to our retreat (that we paid $3000 for the weekend) 4 hours late. We missed all of the events for the first day at our retreat. We spent 2 hours on the phone with Budget rental, roadside assistance, and customer service who just kept passing the problem with another phone number to call. 5 phone calls total! Being told that if the battery died and had to be towed we would be charged additional for this. At the end of our retreat we had to leave 4 hours early (missing the final events of our retreat) to attempt to find an available place to charge the vehicle. This took over an hour to find a charger that was available. Once plugged in we spent 3 hours charging to gain 60 miles worth of charge to get us safely back to budget rental near LAX with traffic.
Upon returning to budget (2 hours before our flight) we were then charged an additional almost $300 for the upgrade that we were quoted $29 for. They then attempted to charge us for not returning the vehicle fully charged. Spending over an hour with the lady at the counter she offered to waive $47 of the additional charges. This was an insult!! Not only was our retreat cut short, but were charged the additional $250+. We had no more time to dispute these charges as we would have missed our flight. It takes 5 minutes to fill the tank in a gas vehicle. We wasted 10 hours+ of our weekend not to mention the stress of being stranded far away from home with no help from budget, roadside assistance, or customer service for their "$29 upgrade that will save us time and money for fuel". I am furious!!!
The Uber ride would have been $90 each way for our retreat. $180 total for an Uber plus tip. The original prepaid rental was just over $200. We thought for about the same money it would be nice to be able to have the freedom of a vehicle at our disposal on our retreat. We were wrong!! Instead of $200 we are now $500 into this vehicle that was completely unusable due to a dead battery and not being able to charge it. "Save us time and money on fuel" what a joke!!!
Budget rental is a horrible place to do business with. They don't care about their customers or their experience. Only filling their own pockets. We didn't ask for a full refund. Only the additional charges for the extreme inconvenience of our time and stress of being broke down in LA. This refund was denied!!! We were able to enjoy one and a half days of events on our 3 day retreat. How can you rent a car to someone with a dead battery and expect them to charge it for 10+hours before it can be used?!?! How can you charge an additional $300 for your "$29 total" upgrade for "convenience"?!?! This was anything but convenient! This was the worst experience ever!!!

Although the situation was eventually resolved, it took many days, lots of time, the intervention of my credit card company, and well-documented and time-stamped photos for me to prove the truth of the timely return of a car. They refuse to offer the basic service of checking in the vehicle and providing a receipt, promising a receipt through email. No receipt arrived and ongoing charges accrued for a week. Resolving the matter took significant time, and although the truth prevailed and all false charges reversed, this took significant time and energy on my part. They simply could care less about their customers, including those who are kind, correct, punctual and follow all the right steps to return a car in good condition in a timely fashion.

1. On Sep 2, 2023, we supposed to rent a car for $42 per day from Budget Car Rentals at Calgary Airport. 2. Because we arrived 2.5 h earlier and our car was not ready, the worker offered us a different car for extra $50 per day (total $92 per day). We rejected this offer. 2. Then the worker offered that car for only extra $35 per day (total $77 per day). We agreed to it. 3. Then the worker offered the insurance cover, but we told him that we do not need the insurance because our provider covers a rental car.
4. Then, the worker offered us to buy the insurance for $35 per day, instead of extra charge for the upgrade of the car (total $77 per day). We agreed because it sounded as a good deal! 5. The worker gave me a poorly printed receipt. I hardly investigated it, assuming that it will be only $35 extra per day, and I signed it. That was my BIGGEST mistake. 6. We returned the car after 7 days and when I got a bill, I found out that the worker charged us $70 extra per day (total of $112 per day)! I just want to emphasize again that we did not need the insurance and agreed to buy it only because the worker promised us that he would not charge us for the upgrade of the car. Conclusion: We think that we were scammed when on the false pretense we were forced to buy the insurance that we did not need.

Do NOT rent from Budget. The car we rented out of Detroit Metro was a beat up, four year-old Fusion with 50K miles on it. We camped in the U. P. and hiked the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes the day before returning the car and got some sand from our hiking boots on the front floor mats. I received a letter from Budget a week after returning the car notifying me that they were charging my credit card $450 for excessive cleaning service. The entre 8 day rental was only $452! They "negotiated" the cleaning fee down to $200. I could have had the car detailed for $100! Complete rip-off. I will NEVER rent from Budget again. Beware of the cleaning fees you agree to if you do rent from them.

It was filthy inside and out, smelled like body odor, there were footprints on the window, and the rug on the passenger side was ripped up. I was in a rush to get to NJ and there were no other vehicles available at the Budget location I was at (Rock Hill, SC). That's not even the worst part... I had to replace the battery in the key fob, and the car needed to get jumped 4 times to start!!! Once I was at my destination - I was able to get a new vehicle, after a lot of inconvenience. Okay, mistakes happen. I went back to their website and prepaid for one at the airport, even though I knew it would be more of a hassle. I drove to the airport, parked in long term parking, and raced to the rental garage. I found the Budget kiosk, which hadn't opened yet even though it was during their operating hours. Finally someone from another company came over and told me Budget didn't even use the kiosk and to go inside. No sign or anything. When I went inside they told me they didn't honor reservations made within 24 hours and that I should call the 800 number and cancel my reservation. After all their mistakes I now have to cancel my own reservation? I had to cancel my whole trip - by then I had no time to find another car.

I get to Budget they throw away that contract and told me I needed to sign theirs for liability and damage waiver etc etc. I get home and discover I signed a contract for almost twice as much. We had the worst possible experience with Budget. Even though we bought their roadside assistance coverage, when we lost our car keys in Scotland we were unable to speak to any live human. Since we were in a remote place we had to hitchhike back to our B&B where we continued to try to reach someone. After hours (no exaggeration) were able to track down their roadside assistance company (with no help from Budget). They said there was no duplicate set of keys but they would provide a taxi to take us to the closest airport 3 hours away.
We again tried to call the Budget office at the airport but again there was no human available. The taxi never arrived and we were unable to reach roadside service again. We paid for our own taxi ($450) and arrived at the airport to find the Budget office closed. So we rented a car from Sixt. We periodically tried to contact Budget during the rest of our trip to inform them of our abandoned car. We finally were able to talk to a human, who said he would contact roadside assistance to have the car picked up. After we returned home we noticed our credit card was charged over $2,000 not only for the remainder of our trip after we abandoned the car but for several days after we returned to the US.
Apparently it took them that long to pick up the car. I challenged the charge and got nowhere. I provided receipts from Sixt to prove we had to rent another vehicle. Still got nowhere. I tried to make my case with higher-ups and still got nowhere. So we were charged 18 days for a car we had for 2 days, including our customer service fee. We have been renting from Budget for years but our loyalty meant nothing. We have since rented (numerous times) from Alamo. Budget would have made up the money many times over. The experience that I had with this rental was the worst experience that I have ever had with a car rental agency. The vehicle that I reserved was a Premium SUV (Chevy Suburban or similar). Budget agreed to switch the name of the primary driver to my wife because I misplaced my driver's license. However, when the Philadelphia Airport location issued us the vehicle it was not in the same class as what was reserved. The representative at the location told me that I had to call customer service. When I called customer service, two different representatives insisted that the vehicle (Ford Explorer) was in the same class as the Premium SUV. Due to the fact that I needed the vehicle, I took the vehicle. Later that day, I returned the vehicle because it did not meet my needs.
About two days later, I received a phone call from a Budget representative stating that they may have given me the wrong vehicle. I was very disappointed because the other representatives were very adamant that the vehicle they gave me was in the same class. The representative that called me asked if I could return the vehicle. I informed her that the vehicle had already been returned. The level of incompetence that I experienced was ridiculous. Furthermore, Budget charged me for options that were clearly declined. I was charged for insurance, which I declined.
When I called to speak to someone about this matter, the representative made it appear as if we agreed for these services. I informed him that the agreement that I have indicates that those options were declined. Although he processed a refund, the mere fact that he made it my error was insulting. This entire experience, from the in-person representatives at the airport to the phone representatives, has brought me to the conclusion that I will never use or recommend Budget Car Rental Agency in the future.

When I arrived at the desk, they pressured me to purchase the extra insurance and told me that the insurance I purchased a Priceline would not cover the vehicle. They were not happy when I still declined it. I was then told to wait outside for the vehicle. After 30 minutes and inquiring about the delay, I was told they were putting gas in the car along with the car that another gentleman was waiting for who had arrived after us.
His BMW arrived, and we were still waiting for our vehicle. 10 minutes later we went back inside and were told to wait while they finished with another customer. I then turned to another company's rental desk and was told they could provide me with a vehicle. I was able to cancel the Budget rental and get my money back. American car rental. That was literally the desk right next to theirs were able to get me into their car in 15 minutes. It was so obvious that because we didn’t purchase the insurance and we’re not renting a luxury vehicle they did not care about our business. I shouldn’t have to spend more money just to get good customer service and respect.

Why does a company give you a confirmation number? Because you have a tentative agreement with the company to reserve their product, correct? The confirmation number tends to be very important when securing a hotel room or a rental car. What happens to the customer when the company decides your confirmation number does not mean anything to them? They rent out all their cars and you are SOL. Jen at Budget said, "Well you were late arriving and someone else needed your car." I was an hour late because of circumstances being my control. I thought I was safe because I had a confirmation number. Nope. Cars are gone. Sorry. Next time call. Seriously?? That confirmation number should hold that vehicle, period. Unbelievable.

I rented a car from Budget at MCO on 6/26/23. The rep at the "service" desk was very blase and disinterested, kept telling us "sign here, sign here, sign here", did not call out ANYTHING to my attention. I opted out of all the pricey add-ons, and filled the tank with gas before returning it. Our card was initially billed $661.71 for the week (not cheap), and then a few days later an extra $26.56 was charged to it. I called to ask why. It was a CONVENIENCE FEE for the little slidey-thing on the windshield that is labeled "SLIDE TO USE". The label on the doo-dad doesn't say anything about a charge.
Our actual tolls totaled $8.71. The "CONVENIENCE FEE" that Budget charged came to $17.85. That little gadget must be a great moneymaker for them - we weren't given any notice that it would cost us an additional $5.95 every day that we went through a toll. This strikes me as very deceptive, and now my perception of Budget has hit rock-bottom. They are a cheating, deceiving company out to defraud customers of as much money as they possibly can. I have already reported them to the BBB and I would warn you not to rent a car from such a shady, morally-bankrupt company.

Rented a car to go from Detroit Airport to GRR on July 22, one way rental. Total for 4 hours $395.08 - high priced due to one way fee. The attendants in Detroit were gracious and accommodating, just super! Car was great too! However, four days later I try to use the credit card for a large purchase to find it was declined. Surprised, I looked up my account and found that Budget had charged the same charge 8 times for a total hold of $3160 on my credit card.
I reached out to them and sent them screenshots of my account, they looked into it and confirmed it was a problem and error, and told that they were sorry for any inconvenience but that there was nothing they could do and that I should check back on my account to see if the charges are removed in 7-10 days and if not to contact them again or my credit card company! TWO WEEKS or more OF HIJACKING OVER $3000! Be careful which card you use and don't use one you need frequently, or choose another company altogether.

We finally received a phone call in regards to this matter 4 1/2 hours after our trip was to begin. (We needed to be in Virginia at a certain time for a celebration of life.) The attendant said that there were several scratches on the car and this would be assessed by the main office. We did not remember scraping anything or having done anything that would cause scratches - We backed into one parking spot into a bush but that would have affected the rear of the car not both sides. They sent photos and the scratches would be easily buffed out. For this we were charged the entire 660 Euro deposit - which is also fishy. I felt like this was a scam which caused the rental cost to go from 180 euros to over 800 euros. A total rip-off. I would think twice about using this rental company in Cyprus.

Updated on 07/21/2023: Double Dipping!! After leaving a review a few days ago I received an email from a Mr. Cody **, the Budget, Operations Manager regarding my review and asking where did I drop off the car? I replied, thanking him for reaching out and explained to him that I had to return the car early because the elevation of Cheyenne, WY was getting me sick due to lung disease. Instead of emailing me back I get an email 4 hours later for a vehicle upgrade next time I rent. What a Slap in the face!! Not only did I initially wait for over 2 hrs to get a vehicle I pre-paid for, but to then be charged extra money $41 for returning it early and they then have the ability to rent out the vehicle again and make more money, this is double dipping. This is bad ethics, morals and poor customer service! I would never again rent from them or recommend.
Original Review: I recently rented a car through Budget Rent a Car in Denver International Airport. I pre-paid for the reservation. I got to Denver after a 4hr flight and was shuttled to the Budget site which was a nightmare. The line wrapped around the entire interior of the building to the outside. It was more than a 2hr wait. Then when you get to the counter and have the reservation they hand you a ticket and say go and wait in the tent outside. Once under the tent, there is no one there and no directions, finally a staff member comes over and simply says go pick one of the vehicles in those three rows.
The real complaint came about when I needed to return my vehicle two days earlier due to some family issues, they charged me an extra 45 dollars for returning early!! I can understand I would not get a refund because I prepaid but to charge for returning early and now they can rent the vehicle again and earlier they are not only making extra money from charging me to return it early but now they are able to rent it out earlier and make more money. This is double dipping and is unethical and immoral. Never again.

Budget Renters Beware, if you rent from Budget don't be surprised if they rent you a dangerous and unsafe car. The car I rented from a St Louis, MO location was just that. I always rent cars for long road trips. I always expect a safe car one that is well-maintained, which has always been the case. I stupidly assumed Budget maintained their cars too. I was given a piece of junk that was dirty and unknown to me at the time and had bald tires. It had over 61,000 miles on it, which concerned me since I was going over 4000 miles with it myself, which they knew when I rented it. But I blindly got in it and I said to myself, it's ok, they checked out the car, it's dirty, I can deal with that. I was excited to get started on my trip.
Well, 3 days into the trip, having driven about 1000 miles already, I decided to look at the tires, you know to make sure all was well (which I should have done in the first place, but going on my assumption that, they wouldn't rent unsafe cars) I didn't. To my horror all four tires were bald, I was out in the middle of nowhere, USA, and had to travel to a location that was open on a Saturday later than 12:00 PM since I couldn't get to any location before they closed besides an airport location. Calling customer service is a nightmare, runaround. So we drove over 300 miles to exchange the car. Thankfully that location had a car for exchange.
When I returned the car back to St Louis and told the attendant who rented me the car, how unhappy I was and asked how could they put me and my passenger in such danger. He gave me a blank look and handed me my paperwork. I was given a small discount, and I was dismissed. I have since contacted Customer Service via email for an additional discount because I believe I am due an additional discount. The response there was they pretty much told me, too bad, by a cut-and-paste answer. So please, if you use Budget Rental, BEWARE of the unsafe cars they rent. I will never use them again, and from now on, I will always check everything out for myself before I leave the lot.

If the company knew this would be a big holiday travel weekend, pay your staff well enough to come to work and keep your customers moving and happy. Very dissatisfied with this rental company. We got on the road and in the middle of nowhere Wyoming the light came on for low tire pressure. I was driving and my son-in-law got on the phone, talked to roadside assistance, got told to call the reservation line, and then got told to call roadside assistance. Through all of this they offered to have me wait 3 hrs for roadside assistance, to pay out my own money for a new tire, or drive 2-3 hours to DIA, mind you it’s 9:49 at night. I recently had a highly disappointing experience with Budget Car Rental, and I feel compelled to share my frustration. Despite having a confirmed reservation, I arrived at the Budget Car Rental location in Cleveland, OH only to find out that there was no car available for me to rent. This situation not only disrupted my plans but also resulted in significant financial loss and a missed concert opportunity.
I had flown from Atlanta, GA to Cleveland, OH, specifically for the purpose of attending a concert in Akron, OH. Renting a car from Budget Car Rental was an essential part of my trip, as I needed reliable transportation to get to the concert venue. Unfortunately, Budget Car Rental failed to uphold their end of the contract, leaving me stranded and unable to attend the concert I had been eagerly looking forward to.
To add insult to injury, I had already paid a substantial amount of money totaling $634.98 including hotel and Uber expenses. Despite this confirmed reservation, Budget Car Rental did not have a vehicle available for me when I arrived. It is absolutely unacceptable for a company to say they will provide a service and then fail to deliver on that service, especially when it causes such significant inconvenience and financial loss to the customer.
What further aggravates me is the fact that Budget Car Rental continued to advertise available cars for rent on their website. I was so stunned and wondering what to do about my abandonment that I just sat down and started watching customers come and go after being told the same story as Budget told me. It is highly deceptive and misleading to advertise a service that cannot be fulfilled. This not only wastes the customer's time but also raises serious questions about the integrity and reliability of Budget Car Rental as a company.
I understand that unexpected situations can occur in any business, but it is the responsibility of Budget Car Rental to ensure that they have the necessary resources and inventory to fulfill the reservations they accept. If a car becomes unavailable, it is their duty to promptly inform the customer and provide suitable alternatives or compensation.
In conclusion, my experience with Budget Car Rental was nothing short of a nightmare. Their failure to provide a car for my confirmed reservation resulted in financial loss, disappointment, and a missed concert opportunity. I strongly advise others to exercise caution when considering Budget Car Rental as their service provider. It is essential to choose a company that values its customers and is committed to upholding its promises and contractual obligations.

This was my first experience with Budget. When we got to the agency at 11:00 AM to pick up our car (that I had pre-registered for 4 month prior) we were asked to wait for it to come to the location. About 20 mins later the car showed up. When going over the car pre-inspection they noticed that the cars registration was expired. So we were taken back inside and asked to wait while they found us another vehicle in its place. 20 more minutes later they showed up with another vehicle, again during the pre-inspection they noticed that this car had the same problem (expired registration). The next 40 minutes were spent calling around to other budget rent a cars to find a car for us.
We were then told we needed to go to another location to pick up the car. They ended up giving us a mini-van when I paid for the other vehicle. After 3 hours, I was finally able to drive away with a car. It was just an all around miserable experience. It left a really bad taste in my mouth and I don't believe I will ever rent from them again.

Picked up my car and it had body damage in the front and back. They were not concerned. Just told me I had to take pictures all around before I you drive off the lot. Upon returning the vehicle days later $1277 charge shows up on my card saying I still have the vehicle out. Had to call customer service to show that I had returned car on time days ago. Next few days had another "service charge" of $60 nobody could explain and it was removed when I called about it. This company is terrible and the cars and in worse shape. The car was not clean and the previous renters contract and information was still in the glove box. Do not rent from them!

I went online to rent a car at Las Vegas. When I got to the counter to get the car, they said they didn't have the class I reserved - if I wanted a car I'd have to pay more for the larger class. Stuck at airport, needed a car. Isn't this the bait and switch scheme - offer you one thing for a price, then they charge you more once you are ready to leave??

I rented a car through Priceline, with Payless. The counter I needed to pick up the car from was Budget/Avis/Payless. I told girl at counter my reservation # and all needed info, explained I rented and paid through Priceline! When I returned the car I found they had set up a whole new reservation and charged me! I have been fighting with them for weeks to get my money back! They are telling me to contact Priceline to get money back! First, Priceline was cheaper, 2nd this was the girl at the counter's fault for not using my reservation! They must get paid commission. Now they won’t give me my 300.00 back that they stole from me by setting up a new, unwanted and unneeded reservation. I have called and emailed Budget over 20 times and they keep telling me it’s Priceline’s fault! I sent proof of reservation and paid receipt prior to my trip. I am beyond pissed that they keep blaming Priceline when it was clearly their employee's fault.

O Stars if possible! The agent lied. Switched and baited a $300 fee after already having to pay $83 to go 100 miles from Orlando to Tampa. The agent and I discussed at midnight how we were re routed to ORL instead of Tampa due to a failed flight from Raleigh. He did not put in the contract a one way drop off fee and when she reprinted the contract with the new drop off if threw up a $300 fee. I called corp customer service and it took me 4 people and explaining that I have a contract that did not disclose this information for them to remove it. They tried through 4 different agents to act like, "Well sorry that's just how it is." No. I have a contract and I did not and will not pay!

When we made our reservation, we were quoted an “x” amount. When picked up the car it wasn’t only scratched and dent everywhere, but also the tank wasn’t full as they claimed. We returned it full! Now, we are being charged more than what we were initially quoted. We did add a toll fee which is why we understand it is a bit more than initially quoted, but they can’t explain why they’re charging more. After about 6 replies to their emails, finally when they have no more excuses why they’re charging more, they got back to me saying they can’t help me because the reservation is not under my name. It is under my husband’s name, but funny how they had no problem dealing with me the first 5 times. Horrible customer service, and horrible company wanting to rip people off and stealing!

A month after renting a vehicle they claimed I drove the vehicle an additional 2000 miles and damaged it. I had the vehicle for approximately 12 hours and drove about 861 miles. I disputed & received no response. 3 months later I received a notice that they were sending me to collections. I have received no bills from them. No proof that I damaged the vehicle and no response to their inaccurate claim stating I drove the vehicle almost 3000 miles in a 12 hour period which is physically impossible. They have responded to none of my disputes with the BBB or Texas Attorney General. Now I am having to take legal action to remove this from my credit.
