Budget's policies were very unclear and deceptive. On their website, my reservation showed free cancelation but when I went to cancel it because of a change in travel plans, Budget charged me $50 only because I prepaid. Budget customer service (haha....) told me that if I had not prepaid, I would not have been charged $50 and when I asked to speak to someone who had the authority to waive the fee, I was told there was no one in the entire organization who could waive the fraudulent cancelation fee.

I got my rental (12-person cargo van) and went home to pack. I realized when I was cleaning the dirty rental vehicle out, the registration was past due. The sticker on the plate and the proof of registration was past due. I called Budget right away. With their pass-the-buck policies, I got no help. They told me that I need to call the location of pickup. They were close already. Day one of my trip put off till the next day. The next morning, when they opened at 9 am, I called the pickup location and they said that all they could do was have me drive to the airport, which is 45 minutes away, to exchange it for a different vehicle. If not then I had to wait till Monday to get the proper registration information.

I then called Budget legal department about my vehicle not being registered. The legal Budget representative told me that all I could do was drive the unregistered vehicle in to the airport, 45 minutes away to get another one. I decided that was the only way I was going to get back getting my trip started, was by driving my unregistered vehicle 45 minutes to the airport for another.

I got to the airport and was given a very worn-out replacement vehicle. I drove it out and decided to pull over to verify registration. Lo and behold, the proof of registration was 3 years past due. I called roadside assistance, and they called the Budget airport location. The airport location manager said that they could not prove registration on the vehicle till Monday because it was the weekend. He also said that it did not matter because it was a rental vehicle. I stated that the rental company has to be able to prove to me that the vehicle is legal for drive on public streets at the time of pickup. He then said that all I could do was drive that vehicle back for another. So I drove the 2nd unregistered vehicle back to Budget.

When I got back to the airport, they ask me to go look a a vehicle that only had 8 seats, and to verify proof in the glove box. I went to that spot and lo and behold, no proof of registration. I went back to the Budget counter amd told him again of the same problem. She gave the manager a call again to verify another vehicle. I then received the 4th vehicle with proper proof of registration.

It is a shame I can't give zero stars. I had rented a car under the impression it was free cancellation. It said it all over while I was booking. I called to cancel the reservation a day after booking it as my plans had changed. I was charged a 50 dollar fee because they put it in the fine print at the bottom of the website as you are booking. Terrible customer service and experience and I will go out of my way to not rent cars from them in the future and I travel quite frequently. I will also go out of my way to make sure friends and family know about this experience as well.

Horrible experience. Kids are running the entire set up. Jayson the manager was completely disrespectful, and the desk at the airport was rude and very impolite. No professionalism whatsoever. They say and do anything they like, as if they were speaking to someone on the streets. I had booked my reservation weeks ago and went to get my car after I picked up my luggage.

I was stated my car was in space 05, there was no vehicle in 05. No one seemed to care. When you go downstairs to pick up your car they all hide in the office behind the glass. I went back upstairs to get a different car. The car was where it was supposed to be, but it was dirty. I had to go upstairs again and this time I was told that all they had for luxury cars were a Suburban, and an electric Genesis, when I told the desk help (dread locks and black framed glasses, who wouldn’t give me his name and was extremely rude) to cancel the entire thing and I’d go to another rental place, he had an attitude with me. I was finally able to rent a car, way less money and slow but respectful service.

Do yourself a favor and skip Budget and Avis since they work together. Plus, nobody wears a name tag. They wear red shirts with Budget and Avis on it. It is seriously a hot mess. I hope the eleven board members read this along with general council! To top everything off, I have a medical condition that doesn’t allow me to experience heat nor standing too long. Nobody tried to do anything to help. You will walk around the downstairs hot parking lot lost, and even though there are workers walking around they couldn’t care less. First one that needs to go is Jayson, the 20 something year old “manager”. Get it together Louisville Airport car rental!

God forbid you leave your phone, glasses, computer in the vehicle at Return. They will end up in the garage in short order. You will then receive emails weekly telling you how they haven’t found your item- Even though it would have been easily recoverable in the first 15 minutes of the loss had they not put it in the garbage, to avoid loss of efficiency.

The only reason why I didn't give the rating a zero is because a 1 was as low as I could go. After waiting in line get to the counter and for some reason the clerk couldn't figure out how to order my car. He had my license. Another guy helped him and after 45 minutes I was given a ticket to go get the car. I get outside, get to the gate and the gate guard was asking me several questions and told me to meet him inside.

After several more minutes (at least 45) he finally showed up and said he would try to match what the other company ALAMO. Quoted me. I cancelled my previous reservation because I had traveled all day and was too tired to go anywhere else. Allegedly I made my reservation at another company. After several more minutes with my license and credit card, he told me that they weren't going to honor their prices even though we're talking about BUDGET rental. He told me I'd have to pay $550 for a two day rental. Which was $345 more than ALAMO.

I thought it was odd that they hadn't charged me and I just assumed I would be charged at the gate. But how do you take someone's i.d. confirm that you found the reservation and give them keys and a ticket to a vehicle? Needless to say, I was at Budget rental car longer than my flight, and it was delayed. Yes, it's 12:40 a.m. and I am just getting settled. I had to pay $70 for a LYFT because I was too tired to fight.

After few days of returning got an email letter that I got charge of $450 for smoke cleaning fee. I kept calling to negotiated for unfair charge, end up discounted me but still I do not agreed. 1st I didn't notice it was smoke smell and 2nd when I returned the staff checked everything fine and didn't mention. I tried read most review, seems like Budget try to charge a lot people with excuses of "cleaning fee" (to add on some more charges).

I have been a satisfied customer of Budget Car Rental for over 6 years. I have rented multiple cars per year from Budget at the Santa Maria Airport location. There are several reasons why Budget is my top choice for Car Rentals. One being, Budget usually has the best rates. The other car rental companies usually have higher rates for the same cars.. Also, Budget's fleet of cars are in good condition. As a female, one of the most important factors to me is reliability. I want to feel safe and assured I will reach my destination without my car breaking down. I love driving worry free when I rent from Budget. I have never had any issue regarding missing a flight due to a mechanical issue using Budget.

Also, they rent me clean cars, too. Lydia is my kind and professional rental agent at the SM airport location. I can't say enough good things about her. She is on top of her job and I've always had a smooth and hassle free experience renting from Lydia. She has gone above her job description by giving me the best customer service available. Easy drop-in drop-off experiences are appreciated. I am a happy customer of Budget Rental Car and will continue to use them as my top choice for car rentals.

We were charged $130 to refuel the car. We used less than a half tank of gas in a small SUV. So by Budget's math to fill the SUV it would have cost over $300. I know the gas price is inflated but a tank of gas for that vehicle would have cost $60 at best. Absolutely ridiculous! I feel like this was done because I had discount codes and they wanted to recoup their cost. My friend used Hertz for their rental and had their SUV for 2 days longer, didn't fill the car all the way up and it was cheaper than my rental.

I thought I booked an economy car for 3 days for $165. Flight lands late, I check in, and head out to get the car. In the designated spot was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I looked and looked again, my paper work says Jeep grand Cherokee, so I take the jeep from my designated spot. This thing is HUGE. The tires were out of balance. I fill it up before I return it. $60.06. Not exactly a Corolla… my card was charged double the amount. First customer service call, I was told I was charged for an upgrade.

I stated that I was not asked about an upgrade, nor did I agree to one or want one. I was informed I’d have to call back in 1-2 days for a refund because the case wasn’t closed yet. I called back today and was informed I hadn’t been charged for an upgrade but for the fuel I did not replace. $97 to be exact. I told them I did fill up the car, I have emailed a receipt as proof. I haven’t heard anything back. When asked to speak to someone higher up I was told there was no one.

Booked a car online and thoroughly read the terms regarding use of a debit card. When we arrived at the counter, the lady said she wouldn't take the debit card despite my meeting the terms required. So we're stranded at the airport with my husband in a wheelchair needing to get to his med appt. Probably just as well with Budget's insanely high "taxes and fees", as well as what other h.e. double sticks other customers have gone through. My takeaway is that tourist season is time for Budget to inflate their prices and cater to wealthy folks. They deserve to be regulated.

On 5/30/2024 I reserved a minivan from the Budget location at 110 Vanderbilt Motor Pkwy in Hauppauge NY, I woke to a text saying that the minivan that I paid to reserve was not available. I asked if there were any SUVs available and at first there were none but then one was found supposedly. I agreed to accept it and when I arrived to pick it up I was using my debit card for the rental and I was then told that a credit check was needed since I was using debit card.

I did not pass the credit check and was told I had to use a credit card, I did not have enough on my credit card to cover the charge and it would take at least a day to move the money to my credit card. I told the person working at the counter that I would have to cancel the reservation and was handed a pamphlet and told I would need to call the number on the bottom to cancel. This entire situation has been horrible, I went back to check and no were during reserving does it say credit check needed for debit card. I had to call myself to an overseas call center to get my reservation cancelled, how it that customer service.

I had to take an Uber to this place, which I am not being reimbursed for and I didn't even receive an apology for not even having the correct vehicle and the worst thing of all is that I have to wait for the money to go back into my account. My current vehicle is at the mechanic and that was why I needed a rental, but now I have no vehicle, no money that I paid to rent the vehicle and I am hoping that there isn't an emergency and need to be somewhere. Budget is less expensive to rent but my recommendation is do not rent from them if you can avoid it.

There was only person working (he was great) even though Budget clearly had taken reservations and knew how many people were coming in. Then we had to wait again to exit the garage since there was only one (also great) person working there. By the time we left, there were over 30 people in line and waiting. Some of them had to be there until after midnight. I will NEVER reserve with Budget again!

He said "So will go with basic option?" I replied "I prechecked everything I wanted." he said "Ok", filled out something in the computer and gave me to sign. I signed and returned to him. After returning the car, I received the e-receipt with 3 optional services I did not asked for for $150!!!! I called the customer service right away and told them what happened. They said: "You should have read the agreement that you signed at the counter!"

They can only do some 30% discount on the services I did not asked for!!! So, that guy at the counter PURPOSEFULLY put 3 OPTIONAL SERVICES in my agreement against my will without even telling me about it, and now they blame me for not reading 2 pages contract written in finest print while I was at the counter! My rental was actually out of Budget @ Denver Airport. We arrived in Denver around 7:05 PM expecting to pickup a rental car from a reservation previously made (weeks ago) and then be on our way. We arrived at the rental car counter about 7:30ish & waited inline for over an Hour all to be told once we made it up to the counter that they had overbooked and that they were fresh out of cars, we had reserved a Camry. All we had as far as options were an E-car or a minivan. We settled for the minivan as we were already very late to meet the rest of our party and we still had a couple of hours drive to get to our destination. We get to the parking lot where this minivan was supposed to be waiting and the spot was empty, no minivan in sight...but lots of other cars sitting around...We go back in at this point very frustrated and the young man was very stressed as well as they were clearly understaffed...

We stated that there was no minivan, but several other vehicles out there....He tells us to just go pick whatever we liked and wanted as long as it had a full tank and we won't be charged anything different...*NOTE* we noticed several other couples walking around the parking lot as well because their car was not anywhere to be found or readily available either...so things were getting really weird at this point...so this is what we did, we chose another vehicle, whatever had a full tank of gas but it was truly a recent return because it was so filthy dirty on the outside.

At this point we didn't care as it was after 9 PM and we still had a couple hour drive ahead of us to check into our Hotel and meet the rest of our group. Needless to say it all worked out in the end but proved to be a very long, frustrating, stressful day. Now maybe this was just an isolated event, maybe it was just a Denver thing and not anywhere else...I feel like I have rented from Budget before and not had any issues elsewhere in the Country, but I don't know for sure...I do know this though, this occurrence has definitely left a bad taste in my mouth for Budget Car rental and going forward I would rather pay a little more with another Company than run the risk of another experience like this again.

I bought the fuel option for my rental. My Tucson has a fuel capacity of 14.3 gallons, I was supposed to be charged $3.4x per gallon for Budget to refuel the car. I was charged $101.35 to refuel my car. That means that I was charged $7.09 per gallon to refuel. I talked to customer service and they said they refilled 22 gallons which is absolutely impossible as the fuel tank capacity is only 14.3 gallons assuming I drained the tank dry. That means I am being defrauded by Budget and they are filling other cars up with my money.

I was promised a free upgrade and when I got to the place to pick up my car in Boston I was told they didn't have any upgraded cars to give me. Instead I got the worst car in the fleet. It had been smoked in a lot and when I opened the door I gagged on the cigarette smells and a bad bounce in the back end that vibrated the car at any speed over 60. Frankly, it was dangerous. I was able to trade it for another car in Middleton Pennsylvania. I drove that car for 3 miles and discovered it didn't have USB jacks that worked and cigarette burns in the passenger seat. So I returned that and got a THIRD car. It had an issue that turned off the front radar until it decided to be on and then it would slam on the brakes randomly as I changed lanes. Another dangerous car. I called customer support and they said there is nothing they can do. I believe there is something they CAN do. 2 out of 3 cars were dangerous, all three were broken. It's not a good look.

I am just reaching out to express my shock at a significant and unexpected cleaning charge described in a recent memo after the conclusion of my recent Budget car rental. Perhaps we should all be a little more attentive to the fine print of the rental agreement contract, but my family and I were not aware of your standards of cleanliness nor the subsequent penalty for an accumulation of dirt. If this had been impressed upon us, we certainly would’ve been more diligent and attentive to your expectations upon return of the car... Surely open, clear communication is the hallmark of any successful, sustainable and ethical business. While we understand the need for a lengthy and detailed contract, certainly a bit more transparency and clear communication with customers regarding such matters would go a long way towards generating customer loyalty and repeat business!

Especially when you return car back early you don't get any money back so they are getting free money from you then even get to turn around and rent it to someone else. I called the 4th call abt my return. I called 5/21/24 Tuesday the 5th day I called. He told me it would be next Monday the 9th day. So basically they are in no hurry to return your money that is only post to be just a hold til you return car. They don't even deserve a 1. These are the ones whoever we all talk to on phone. Because the budget on w Washington Indianapolis has great people working there but they can't help the people that take our money. I feel sorry for them because they take a lot of heat from customers because the way whoever or wherever budget is ran.

Overcharged and RIPPED off. We rented a car from 3/13/24 to 3/27/24 (2 weeks) from Budget at LaGuardia Airport in New York and returned the car to the same airport. We stayed in a house in Brookhaven for the entire visit. We only drove 201 miles during the entire 2 week period. The round trip to Brookhaven to see the grandkids and back to the airport accounted for 80+ miles of the 201 total miles driven.

We are two seniors (70+) and did not have any other passengers in the car. It was winter and it rained off and on throughout this trip. Weeks after we returned the car, we received a charge of $250 for "excessive soilage" on our Costco credit card. As proof, Budget produced four fuzzy pictures of the dash, front floor mats and the backseat. The pictures did not look like anything to me. A shake out and light vacuum is all the mats needed. There were no spills or body damage to the car. I guess Budget was very upset they were forced to vacuum the front mats instead of renting the car out immediately without any cleanup.

We NEVER even used the back seat. The car was not that clean when we got it (trash in trunk and car mats did not look vacuumed) but it was winter and we thought this was the norm in NY and didn't complain (we're from California). We never drove this car off road and never to the beach. We drove for shopping and dining only.

We disputed the $250.00 charge and Budget denied our credit card appeal! There was no Budget personnel to show us the car when we picked it up and there was no Budget personnel when we dropped it off. We were told to leave the keys in the car and leave! After many years of choosing Budget over other car rental companies for our vacations, this experience has really left a bad impression on this company.

I wish I could give zero stars. I have rented cars from other rental companies and never had this problem. I rented a car from Budget weeks in advance. I called to double check everything was ready and what the deposit would be. I have a 620 credit score which is not high but not terrible either. When I went to pick up the car they told me they didn't take my credit card. (Chime) I said ok and transferred all the money I needed to my of Debit card (a different bank). They then ran the deposit as a debit which is fine. But then told me I could not rent the car anymore because I didn't pass the credit check for debit. How can they run a credit check on my debit card? I asked how high the credit score needed to be and the woman working said she had no idea.

We had to cancel a trip that we had planned for months because we could not get another large car for that weekend somewhere else because they were all sold out. They never once said they didn't take my credit card or that they would have to do a credit check if I used a debit card when I booked or called in. When my husband called a few days later they hung up on him 2x. Never going to try to book with them again...

Then got in a second line and waited another 2 hours to get a car. After the trip we contacted Sun Country and were told we should have been charged only the initial $600 and probably some taxes when we got to PHX. A month later, reviewing expenses, I realized they charged $350 over because there was a bottle of Febreze left in the car, due to fast drop-off, and someone decided that meant smoking in the car (?). The reality was that the luggage area had a smell like bad milk when the car warmed up after pickup. At a month later and 2000 miles away, they got me. The previous rental from Columbus, Ohio Budget gave us a car with expired tags. We were there for a funeral and got stopped by the police. They did exchange the car, but we lost two days of use. The worst! Do not rent from them. Go read the reviews. Here’s our story: I’m grandma and was taking my young grandchildren to other grandma's memorial. May 3rd went to pick up car (had scheduled my pick up time for 6am). They apparently don’t open until 8 even though the offered pick up times are 0000-2400. When we able to get our car I was offered an upgrade to a hybrid for $15 a day. I took it thinking of the gas savings.

We left Eugene at 9am and made it to Salem about 10 am. Where the car on I5 told me I needed to pull off the road because the car was going to shut off. I lost all power and was cruising at 10mph on the interstate with no safe place to pull over. I made it to the next exit without dying on the interstate but the pull off was another highway. I limped the car to the first road I saw and got off the highway into an empty parking lot. At this point the kids had to use the bathroom and couldn’t hold it to take a walk down the road to any open businesses. I had my baby girl peeing on the side of a highway with cars driving by. At this point if Budget we should actually be in Washington had Budget been open the hours they had posted.

I called their number three times before I got the right people. They don’t help just transfer and put you into the same automated system so you just take another guess as to what number option to choose. My anxiety was through the roof after the interstate fiasco and people honking and flying around us. They actually threatened to hang up on me because they said I would need to call 911 because of their lack of caring about the welfare of the family in my car. The new rental was not a hybrid or an upgrade in anyway. I was told to call customer service after we return the car.

On May 7th I called customer care and explained the situation. Customer care did not listen at all when I explained the situation and would “repeat” what I was saying in a way that turned it into a me problem. I asked for the $15 dollar a day upgrade as I only drove the car for an hour and a half. That would be a total of $45 refunded. We went in circles for quite awhile and I asked to speak to a supervisor. I was informed they don’t have supervisors there and they’d have to put me in a queue and I would get a call back in 24-48 hours. I explained that doesn’t work for me as I don’t answer my phone unless I know who’s calling. I would like to speak to a supervisor. Long story short I refused to hang up until I talked to supervisor and they hung up after telling I’d get a call in 24-48 hours.

They never called. I called again Monday morning May 13 and was put into the same queue and another 24-48 hours. Still no call. Go to Enterprise for your rentals. I personally called them and they also will send you to a queue but with Enterprise when you are sent to the queue you will talk to the next available supervisor and they do care about the issues that arise during your trip and want to fix the problem. You’re welcome.

Also I have this review saved because I’m posting it on every review page for Budget because I don’t want other people to have the same awful experience. My course of action is talking to my attorney today to file a claim for at least the $45. So now Budget will be paying my lawyer fees and court costs per what my guy said.

We had about the worst experience you can have with a rental car company using Budget at JFK airport. I had recently signed up for Fast Break, so I could bypass the extremely long lines I experienced at LaGuardia a month before. We received emails and texts stating that we were Fast Break customers. So we show up at Budget at JFK, and there are the usual 10+ customers in line and two agents. But we get in the Fast Break line where there is only one person ahead of us. That still takes a half hour.

We finally get to the front of the line and the agent looks up our reservation and says that it was not a Fast Break reservation and that we would have to go to the now even longer general line. I speak to the other agent, who says she's a "manager" and she is as belligerent as can be and explains how I could have added Fast Break while in line because it's free, and they can't just move people to Fast Break. I explain that I joined Fast Break a month or more ago. She doesn't care. By this time, the people who have waited an hour on the general line let everyone know that "Budget has no cars ready to rent." We are livid, and the line is probably 2+ hours long by then.

I go across the street, and walk into Hertz. In FIVE MINUTES, I have a rental of a brand new car with under 200 miles on it, and a contract that is about $15 higher for the 4-day rental than Budget would have been. The contrast between the friendly staff and immediate help at Hertz and the nasty, slow moving staff at Budget was night and day. I will never, ever consider using Budget again, but guess who has a loyal customer going forward?

I was told the car could be switched anytime at any Budget rental store. The next day on 5/11, I stopped at Budget Deland store and was told nothing but was available; they sent me to the Sanford Airport store, claiming the airport store has plenty of inventory. After driving for 40 minutes to the Sanford Airport Budget store, I was told only electric cars were available.

At every Budget store I went to, the staff were rude and had no sense of professional service and courtesy. I ended up wasting 4 hours trying to switch to a gas car, but had to drive the same cheap electric car all the way to New York from central Florida. Even after having suffered 7 times from looking for an EV charging station and waiting long hours for charging to finish on the way to New York, I still fully charged the car right before returning it to the Budget store at Poughkeepsie, NY, because I am a responsible person. Once I showed up during my "appointment time" and handed the lady all my IDs and card I was using to rent the car she told me I could not receive a car since I am not 25 nor did I have a major credit card.

I explained that I already went through this process with somebody who told me I would be allowed to, and she apologized and said she could do it. We planned a trip for our daughter's 16th birthday. Our car isn't fuel efficient and needed tires. After a few quick online searches and running numbers through the calculator, we found what seemed like an affordable option through Budget Car Rental. I used their website and created an account for the extra discount. Booking was fairly easy and confirmation came right away. Yay! Not so fast... Get to my local Budget office where I designated the car to be picked up, at the scheduled time, only to have the person working there tell me they have no cars available. I had to ask again... wait the site took my money and I have the confirmation to be here, but no car! They explained it happens a lot. They are an independent business so have no control of Budget. They told me to use my confirmation number at the airport in our area, which is 30 miles away.

I called customer service and explained my frustration. Of course they offer to refund my transaction, only problem there of course is it takes 3-5 business days for them to refund it! We're on a pretty tight budget (who isn't), so that really puts our trip in a bind financially. They other offer was to give us a big discount for our trouble. I accepted the discount.

My wife drive me the 30 miles to our local airport. As she dropped me off I thought our troubles were over and we'd be on our way soon. This is when I'm informed that the deposit could not be paid using a debit/Visa card and that it had to be an actual major credit card. We haven't had a major credit card since COVID killed my wife's business. Again comes the offer to refund me and I get to wait 3-5 business days (this is Saturday, so the clock on that doesn't even start until Monday)! Or if I have a friend or family member that has a credit card I can do that.

I spend the next 30 minutes calling/annoying my friends and family. I actually find one willing to help as I go back to the counter with the phone in my hand expecting now to have the situation resolved. That's when I get the rest of the explanation that the person has to physically come, we have to start a whole new contract and then add me as an additional driver!

Not only should all of this be very clearly and largely listed when you're checking out and Budget is happily taking money from your account, the employees should be clearly explaining all this from the beginning! And if you're going to have problems and want to refund someone have a cash drawer so customers don't have to wait! I could go on and on with all the ways this experience could have been better! Bottom line, the were very quick to take my money, but not really that concerned if I actually get the product I've paid for! Bad Form Budget!!!

I promise you don’t want to miss this review. It could save you a lot of stress and money. I'll preface this with the fact that I’m an airline pilot and rent cars regularly, utilizing my benefits for this specific booking as well. I was in Fort Lauderdale, FL for a week and decided to rent Budget's “sporty” car, noting that with my benefits I was eligible for a free upgrade. I was not given a free upgrade when picking up the car. Secondly, after a long wait, I was given the vehicle with an 80% full tank of gas and very low rear left tire pressure. Image attached. I had to wait even longer for budget to take the vehicle back and correct the issues.

After returning the vehicle (12 hours earlier than specified), I received a bill with unexplained charges, including a charge for fuel (Image attached of my return with a full tank) and a “damage capture report”. Instead of explaining it all, I have attached all the images. I will say however that the images I have attached were in fact that blurry and unreadable. On top of having no clue if those images were from the vehicle I rented, their claims of excessive sand are unreasonable. Are the vehicles not vacuumed and the mats not shaken off before delivery to the next customer?

The first email I didn’t bother worrying about because the claims were laughable, and I had full belief they would realize this before pursuing further charges. I was wrong. Today I received an email (attached) stating I must pay 250 USD for excessive soilage. After calling customer service he said he agrees based on the images he can give me a 50% discount on the charges which is also clearly unacceptable.

As a customer I had a horrible experience during pickup and after dropping off I would firmly place this company in the scammers category. The truth is budget is the biggest and they probably don’t care about losing customers. It's less about renting out cars and more about collecting as much as possible for hidden charges or unreasonable, baseless claims. The truth is the images they sent me are unclear and even with the loose sand they have shown, a shake of the mats and vacuum is expected standard procedure from a rental car company. If they’re looking for any more than $5 for the couple minutes of work that would’ve taken to deal with, I’m dealing with a scam, money hungry scumbags and you likely will too.

My mind is completely blown to the fact they would treat a customer like this, especially after a weeklong rental and I hope anyone reading this finds it as ridiculous as I have. I would motivate anyone reading this to avoid Budget at all costs. There are so many other companies out there and while rental car companies may be similar, I have never dealt with this level of insanity from any of them. Please do not rent from Budget.

While Budget's pricing was more affordable than the other rental car options, I deeply regret going with Budget. Several days into our travel, the key stopped working, and we were completely unable to operate the car (we couldn't unlock the doors and certainly couldn't crank or drive the car). Hours after contacting Budget, we were assisted by a towing company who came to us and fixed our key fob. Several days after returning the car, I received an invoice from Budget for the towing company expense (nearly $300). I called Budget to explain our circumstances, hoping the towing company invoice would not be my expense since they were only called because the car wasn't functioning.

Instead, Budget informed me that they would not waive the cost and suggested that I should have purchased their rental insurance. I tried several different avenues to get the message through: our car was not 100% operational during the time we rented it, and we had done nothing to cause this. I was met with zero empathy. I am truly more disappointed in Budget's terrible customer service than their poor quality of cars. I will never rent from Budget or its affiliates/partners again.

Budget Rental in Essex MD rented us 2020 Nissan Murano that had 65,000 miles and the rotars were so warped it made the ride from Baltimore, MD to Sarasota, Florida awful. Every braking, the car pulled right and you could feel the rotors just pulsating because they were so warped. I didn't think rental companies kept vehicles after 25-30K miles. Their only customer service at this location when we called on our journey was if we felt unsafe, take it to a rental location near us, like we were going to unpack our entire vehicle and repack on our journey.

They told us it was green-lighted to rent, but when we returned it, there was a red dot in the center console which means it was not safe to rent! Where we returned it, they said that is an old way of marking cars not to rent and it should have been displayed on the dashboard. Essex Budget Rental owner didn't even have the decency to call us back after 2 phone calls to their location upon our return to Florida. I wouldn't rent from them ever again.

Worst customer service EVER. I have been a Budget customer for years, and have rented many times. On April 5, I went to the counter at Denver airport to pick up a car I had reserved and already paid for. The agent told me they were unable to use my bank debit card, with a chip, for the deposit for the rental. I have used this exact card several times in the past year for a Budget car rental. The agent, his manager, and THREE different people on the phone at Budget all gave me the same answer "nothing we can do". I walked to the nearest competitor, who were happy to rent me a car. Well, there is something I can do. I will never rent from Budget again and am cancelling my account.

I could not drive the car, no spare was in the vehicle, a tow truck took away my rental and left me. Budget sent me a credit for Uber, which I have never used an Uber. They wanted $600 to send a replacement car to my location that was less than 10 miles from the location I rented. And I have not received a refund since 4 days out. I had flown into town for an event that day and I had no time to waste. I had to drive away with the windows down and get to my event. An employee approached and asked if there was a problem. I said that it smells like pot but I had no time for an exchange. He told me to tell the woman in the booth as I left the garage. I did that. I went to my event, windows open, and came back a few hours later and reported it to the person who I gave the keys to.

Three agents knew. One joked that he hoped the folks at my event did not think I smelled like pot. Then, I get an email stating that they plan to charge me $450 to clean the car of the horrid odor! I reported it to 3 agents and had to catch a flight. I could not stick around to be sure they did whatever protocol that would have saved me the grief. I called them very upset and after a long wait on hold, the young woman told me I would get a 20% discount off of the $450! Um... Absolutely not! I would have taken whatever steps needed to stop any payment to Budget if they dared to try to charge me. Due to the open windows, I think an employee got in the car to smoke and left the windows open. The car would have been fine if not for the odor. The service would have been fine. But there has to be a process where customer complaints are recorded immediately so this kind of business-destroying occurrence does not happen again.

So the representatives at Chicago location didn't mention at all they were charging me 1 extra hour that almost equivalents to the entire 24 hours of renting a car moneywise. When I contacted them and inquired why they charged me, I was told for the convenience of using the TOLL Road. Why am I paying a car rental company for a road fee that doesn't belong to them? I would think you'd be grateful we didn't drive on pot-holed filled roads. Then when you receive your credit card statement it won't say what it is actually for, it states it is a gas charge, even though I filled the car to the brim upon return.

Complete scam and they keep the money instead of paying the state that the toll is in. BEWARE, apparently budget is allowed to charge your credit card afterwards for whatever they wish and you won't even know. Also, this is not included in any document you sign with them and the customer service rep will verify that you will have no idea that they are going to do so at a later date. We reserved a minivan on 3/20/24 at Boston airport. The rental of the van was from 3/20-3/25/24. Van to be returned by 12:00 on 3/25/24. We returned the rental van 3/25/24 at about 02:30 am. Pulled into the ramp where the sign showed Budget and Avis cars rentals are to be returned to. Pulled in and an older man was standing there. He was crabby and told us to stay in the van until he went around the van to check it. Once he checked the van he then went to the left side (driver-side) back of the van and scanned something. He came back and said ok. My husband asked him if we were good to go. His response was “yes.” My husband left the keys on the front dashboard and said, "Is this an ok place to leave the key?" He responded “Yeah.” All 6 of us got out of the van and grabbed our luggage and went to wait for the shuttle to go to the flight check-in area.

The rental van was returned on Mon 3/25/24 at 02:30 am. On Wednesday, I get a text from Budget saying my car rental is three days overdue. I called them immediately and informed them that the rental car has already been returned at the correct date and at 02:30 am. Informed them that I know they have cameras and can check to verify the van was returned in time. Spoke to customer service (Victor) and he said to me that he would have to send a message to Boston airport Budget to confirm the return of the car at the right date and time and to wait a week to receive an email. So I said ok.

On Sat 3/30/24 I received another text message saying the rental is now 5 days overdue and I also get an email with an e-receipt of $1500 charges and fees. So, had to call them back and spoke to a man called Cesar. Had to repeat the same story of returning the car on time. They asked me what date and time was the rental returned and what kind of rental car was it? Now I’m loud and upset and said I was not paying anything more than what I agreed to pay when I rented the car. He was nice and said he will check and put me on hold. He comes back on the phone and said “Everything you said checked out correctly. Don’t worry everything will be fixed in a week.” I asked what the problem was? He responded that the car was checked in incorrectly. The older man who checked us in seemed crabby and confused when we returned the van. Didn’t surprise me he checked us in wrong. So, I said, "Okay, I will wait."

The next day on Sun 3/31/2024, I get another text message saying the rental is now 6 days late. So… I ignored it since I called them yesterday. On Mon, I get a certified letter that I had to sign for demanding the return of the rental car. Now I’m flaming mad! Called them up again, but this time dialing the number from the certified letter (Loss Prevention Department). Like I don’t have enough to do in my life, but to keep calling them and being put on hold.

Spoke at a Woman called Lileny from loss prevention department of Budget. Had to repeat the whole story again. She put me on hold. Checked a few things. And said that I am correct. Everything checked out and that she will credit my account and remove the extra charges. By this time I feel like I should be charging them for the time I spend dealing with this crap! I was again told to wait another week for the fees to be credited. Meanwhile, the charges put me way over my credit card limit… so I’m sure I will be charge a fee from my credit card company.

So it’s now Fri 4/5/2024 almost a week. I logged into my credit card account. Saw the extra charges from Budget and also saw the credits that was credited to my account from Budget. But, then there was also another charge on 3/29/2024 for $60 which was way after had I already returned the rental car. So, again I had to call Budget back. Can I say I’m so sick of this now. I spoke to a Johnathan. Explain the whole issue again and asked why I was charged $60 days after the rental car had been returned? I reinforced “I am not paying for anything but the amount I agreed to when I picked up the rental car.” He looked into the account and said I was charged a fee because the car rental was checked in inappropriately.

I was so mad. Told him “it not my fault your employees can’t do their job correctly. I am not paying a fee for your mistakes!” He said to give it a week and it would be credited to my account. I will wait a week and see. If not, I’m calling my credit card company and file a dispute. This whole situation was ridiculous and could have been avoided if they hired workers who actually did their job!

I was with my 17-year-old daughter celebrating her birthday and I didn't want to create a problem by taking the electric Mustang. When I had been driving for 15 minutes, one of the tires said it was low. It was 11 o'clock at night and I kept going. When I arrived at my destination on the beach in Fort Pierce, Florida, I used the car for a walk and the battery was running low. When it came time to fill up, there was no place to do so. After a lot of trying, I went to Ford and they gave me a charge. I went to two Budget stores to try to recharge the car, change the car or get a charger.

Both treated me badly and said they weren't going to do anything and that it was the airport store's fault. They said they had a lot of electric cars sitting idle and weren't going to do anything. When I went back to Ford they told me to go to Campaign Park where there were two chargers. One of the chargers was broken and the other, after having to install an app and enter all my personal details, I managed to recharge 30% in two hours. Even though it was Fast Charge. I managed to have enough charge to get back to the airport.

The disrespect didn't stop. There was no one to collect the car, let alone transport it to the airport. As I was leaving the car, I saw a doorman who told me that he didn't receive cars and that there was nowhere to leave the keys. After I convinced him that I was going to miss my flight, he kept the keys. I wasn't the only customer to experience this. My daughter and I had to walk 30 minutes down the road to the airport in the early hours of the morning at the risk of being run over.

Avis and Budget are combined so this review goes here too. I reserved a 12-passenger van on November 13, 2023 for a trip March 7, 2024 from Tampa International Airport. There were 8 of us going to New Orleans with luggage. I rented this vehicle far in advance to make sure I was able to reserve it. On March 7th I drove over 60 miles from my house to Tampa International. It then took me another 45 minutes to even find the Budget rental desk. Once I got to an agent, I waited another 15 minutes while he walked away to whisper in his walkie-talkie, to have him come back and say he didn't have one available. He then proceeded to tell me and I quote, "It's peak season and Budget will and does overbooked, but I can give you two small passenger vans".

What?? I have had this van reserved for 4 months!! Two of us are 100% disabled veterans and the point of renting ONE car was so the driving would be easier on us. I then had to drive another hour home. 4 hours of my day gone to be told a rental I reserved 4 months early wasn't there because Budget overbooks. NO PHONE CALL, NO TEXT, NO EMAIL was sent to me telling me this. Instead, I had to drive over an hour each way and search the airport for the customer service desk to THEN be told there was NO reserved rental waiting for me. This is inexcusable!!

It's hard for me to give them even one star! This is the complaint I logged with Budget Rental Car: I was part of an upselling scam at Harry Reid Airport Budget counter on March 14th, 2024. Even though I declined "Protections and Coverages" on my reservation, I was told by Lucas, the counter rep, that it was MANDATORY that I select an option for coverage from the plastic sheet. Lucas assured me TWICE verbally at my questioning that I would only be charged if there was damage to the car upon return and that it was just a HOLD on my credit card. Apparently, that was not the case as I have been charged the full amount of $186.98 ($170+16.98) on my card.

After a lengthy conversation with your customer service agent. I have been refunded half of the amount charged. That is not reasonable. I would bet that Lucas is compensated by Budget for this upsell, so I hold Budget liable as well and wonder how many others are being deceived? I would like Lucas AND Budget Rental Car to be reprimanded AT LEAST and will be placing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General’s office for deceitful practices and upselling. The two customer service reps I talked with Sunday, March 24th and today, March 26th, denied the the Mandatory damage coverage in their policy.

This was my first and last time renting from Budget. When we got there they didn't have a car for us, we had to get a small SUV. The truck was dirty, it had food crumbs in the front seat, passenger seat and something sticky in the cup holder (Which is not at the bottom on my phone case). When we took the SUV back, we uploaded our bags and she asked for the keys. She started the SUV up and said I will be charged $17 because the needle was not directly on Full, it was one notch from the F. So since we still had time I asked if I could get the keys back and put a few more dollars in the tank to put it directly on the F. She said she closed out the ticket already and I would have to go to the window to start a new rental altogether in order to do that. That was very underhanded, she could have said something when she started the SUV up and noticed it. I will be taking my business to any other rental place. This happened on March 19, 2024, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!

I've, thankfully, not been required to rent a car more than three times. However, following an experience I had today while assisting a family member in getting a rental I can say, with certainty, that I will NEVER rent from this company. She was having issues getting the car because of her credit. I was willing to rent the car for her and add her as an additional driver. While I was filling out an online reservation form, because the clerk REFUSED to make the reservation in house even though her car was there and waiting, she was looking at another company to see if we could get it through them and I wouldn't have to foot the bill. At that point, the clerk clapped his hands and stated "we no longer have any cars available for reservation". We didn't argue and walked out. At that point, the clerk locked the door behind us.

We were not rude. She was upset and frustrated, she tends to get upset but she wasn't screaming at him or being abusive, just obviously upset. She was trying to go upstate for a funeral that her personal car was in no condition to make the drive up for. I have NEVER in my life been treated in such an unprofessional manner. We honestly made out better renting with other company for a better car at a cheaper price but still does not excuse the way that this wand handled. Do not rent with Budget! They have such a low score for a reason.

I told her that the previous agent was able to transfer me and asked her to check with her co-workers.

She continued to tell me that she could only put me in a queue and have a manager call me in 24-48 hours. I insisted that I wanted to speak to someone that day and would hold. She repeated herself and repeated herself. This went on for 15 minutes until she hung up on me. I opened a ticket after that requesting a credit since I felt that the increase in daily charge was very deceptive. Today I received a response that they will not give me a credit. No call or explanation as to why the increase in charge. No mention of a rate difference was made when I first rented the vehicle and explained I didn't know how long I would need the vehicle. Updated on 03/08/2025: Yet AGAIN, this company has overcharged us for fuel. Lady at the desk even marked on the paper that the gas was 1/4 full and told us to return it the same, which we did. When overcharged, we wrote a complaint letter with photos showing the fuel level. They won't fix the charge. This is the third time this has happened from Sarasota to Tampa. We are done with you criminals.

Original Review: When I returned the car at MIA there was huge line of cars waiting for the Budget return. There was not enough Budget staff to process the returns and it was extremely chaotic situation. I was told by your employee just to leave the contract on the dashboard and that the car is officially returned. He did not provide me with any receipt even when I asked. He said “All is good, don’t worry, you can go”. That was at 5:10 pm. Exactly at that time my rental contract ended and my credit card on file should have been removed by Budget from The Highway Toll Authority for any charges incurred after that time. Not only were we charged $17.28 for fuel (we filled the car right next to the airport), we were also charged for two tolls we did not go through.

The fact that Budget allowed my credit card to be charged by The Highway Toll Authority for charges incurred after the rental contract ended is their fault and they should work on the resolution of this. Even after I contacted The Highway Toll Authority (as Budget suggested) since they did not give me receipt when I returned the car, I cannot prove that the car was not driven by me through the two tolls. This is a scam. Budget is willfully and knowingly giving all customers overcharges in small amounts, $17.00 here, $8.00 there) in the hopes people won't call them out on these little charges. Beware of this car rental company. I feel a class action lawsuit coming on.

Well when you call customer service and they explain if you drop at a different location you may get a small drop off fee but must likely not. Well I did drop and I don’t consider $300.00 a small charge on a $450.00 rental agreement, so I call customer service and as per usual the first person says I need a manager, rudest female agent I have ever spoken with, won’t get into the details of her rudeness but bottom line is she said her employee I spoke with mislead my son and myself as we had 2 rentals. I had called when I booked and asked again at pick up and was told it wasn’t going to be a problem.

So we drop off at the other drop off and the check in guy said, "That’s ridiculous fee on your bill." He said, "Talk to the writer at the desk. He can definitely help," he was able to reduce to 150 instead of 300 and told us to call customer service tomorrow and they can remove the rest, they pretty much laughed at me and said another manager would call me back, been 12 hours. Nothing yet, at least this person wasn’t rude to me. Hopefully hear tomorrow at some point but I won’t hold my breath as I was told I would get emails from both people I spoke to and I have received nothing. One be 36 hours and other 12. Basically they don’t care about their customers and I will walk before I ever rent here again.

When I arrived at the Budget garage parking area at Norfolk International Airport ORF to drop off my vehicle, the two staff members in that area told me I needed to go down to the desk in the airport to close out my account because they didn’t know how to do it. I thought that was odd but I went with it. When I got to the counter I stood in the Avis line because they were the ones that gave me the vehicle when I arrived in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago and there was no line. The Avis representative told me she could not help me because it was a Budget vehicle.

I explained to her that she was the representative that issued me the vehicle when I got here a few weeks ago. She then proceeded to tell me that she could not help me because she did not have Budget's website up at the moment, and directed me to go stand in a very long line at Budget. This was very aggravating because I had a plane to catch and did not expect this unnecessary delay. After waiting for about 30 minutes to turn my keys in and close out my paperwork, the lady at the Avis desk who still did not have a line at her desk, and could not help me 30 mins earlier called the gentleman behind me in the Budget line so she could help him.

A lady named Laura at the Budget desk that helped me was shocked that the Avis representative did that. Laura was very helpful and apologetic about my situation but the lady at the Avis desk could care less, even after I told her I had a plane to catch. She just looked at me and said, “What do you want me to do about it?” To add insult to injury while rushing to the gate I received a call from a Portsmouth, Virginia number which was another Budget/Avis representative to ask me if I turned my keys in when I dropped the car off in the garage. So, I had to stop what I was doing to explain the whole situation over again. One job Budget rental car, one job. Thanks to Laura at the Norfolk Budget desk, she is the only one in the series of events that help me make it to my flight on time.

I rented a car in LA and the service was HORRIBLE. I will never rent with them again. The cost when booking online appeared lower, but all the extra charge once there made it the same as their competition, if not more. I had requested a car by 1pm and didn't get it until 7pm ... The 1st thing was getting off the terminal: shuttles for all other rental companies were coming about every 5-10 min. We waited over 1h to see the 1st Budget shuttle, and it finally arrived. It was full. The line was too big to fit in the 2nd one so we had to wait for the 3rd one (about 2 hrs waiting). When we finally arrived on the rental site, there was a crazy line at the counter (hundreds of people). It was raining that day and the line was so long that most of the wait was outside, with no roof to protect us from the rain (for info, I was travelling with a toddler and a 8 month pregnant woman, yet no one came to offer them a sit or shelter inside... Actually, they were denying access to the office because it was too crowded).

After waiting about 2.5 hours ... the person at the counter gave us attitude (probably tired and frustrated to deal with tired and frustrated people). I was told I could only get a 2 seater convertible (when I had rented a standard size) which didn't work because I needed a child seat in the back. She left for 15 min and came back saying they only had pick up trucks which I declined. She left for another 15 min and finally gave us the key to a standard size. I had to wait another 15 min because I was not given a baby seat (which was in my reservation, it was also obvious because my toddler was with me and I had declined the previous cars because I needed the seat ...).

When I walked to the parking lot, there were hundreds of standard size cars on the parking lot!! Almost only standard size cars. They may have been reserved, but I had reserved one so I don't know why we waited an extra hour at the counter for that... The car also had low tire pressure and the tank was not full (missing a little bit but no one was there to assist). When I specified this exiting the lot, I was told I had to go back inside and ask them to adjust the contract or refill (which I didn't want to do after going through what I had to go through). Anyway, this was the worst rental experience I ever had. I usually don't even wait when renting with Enterprise or Hertz (I can go direct to the car and pick what I want from a selection available). Not only it turned out to be more expensive, but we went through a really bad experience and had a lot of attitude. Avoid at all cost, the rental will not be less expensive as it seems when you book online.

Within 5 minutes of driving on a highway after exiting the airport, it started to make loud metal scraping noice from underneath the car. It got worse within another 5 minutes which forced us to stop by the side of the road because it was unsafe to drive.

We called Budget’s roadside assistance number. By this time it was 1:30 am. After giving all the information, we were told that the one towing company in town won’t get to us until 3:30-4:00am and there’s nothing they can do. The rental car attendant at the airport was so unprofessional and didn’t even try to check the condition of the car (the usual inspection of scratches etc.) until I mentioned about several dent and scratches. I have never experienced such problems with all the traveling we do. I simply cannot believe a company is allowed to do rental car business when they don’t even inspect the safety of the car before they send the customers out to the road exposing an extremely dangerous situation. My recent experience with Budget Car Rental was profoundly disappointing, marked by a series of egregious lapses in service and ethics. Despite my expectations of a smooth and reliable rental process, I encountered a myriad of issues that left me deeply dissatisfied. First and foremost, the service provided by Budget Car Rental was nothing short of abysmal. From the onset, it was apparent that customer care was not a priority. Communication was lacking, and any attempts to address concerns were met with dismissiveness and deflection. One of the most egregious aspects of my experience was the false charging under the guise of toll fees. Despite the vehicle never leaving the state during the rental period, I inexplicably received a toll bill. This unauthorized charge not only inconvenienced me but also resulted in my account being overdrawn, leading to additional fees and the need to dispute the transaction with my bank.

Adding insult to injury, Budget Car Rental and the toll handling company are evidently sister concerns, complicating matters further. Despite assurances of resolution, the two entities continually passed the buck, effectively washing their hands of responsibility. This lack of accountability is deeply concerning and indicative of systemic issues within both organizations.

Based on my harrowing experience, I unequivocally advise prospective renters to steer clear of Budget Car Rental. The risk of encountering similar issues far outweighs any potential benefits. However, if one finds themselves inadvertently booked with Budget, I implore them to take preemptive action by promptly stopping their card transactions post-rental. Failure to do so may result in further unauthorized charges, exacerbating an already untenable situation. In conclusion, my interaction with Budget Car Rental was marred by incompetence, unethical practices, and a blatant disregard for customer well-being. It is my sincere hope that my testimonial serves as a cautionary tale and prompts the necessary reforms to prevent others from enduring similar tribulations.

Upon arrival they had no cars available in Tallahassee airport and sent me to their other location 15 miles away at my expense of $55 for a cab. Upon arriving at next location, they gave me a rental with over 50,000 miles on it with illegal bald tires, and with tire pressure warning light on dash flashing. Was told this was the only available rental for dropping off at another location which was going to be Orlando airport, and that they kept their premium quality vehicles for local rentals only. We were given a vehicle with worn tires with inadequate tread as we later discovered when we noticed slippage going uphill on wet roads in the mountains. We had a blowout on the way down in a precarious area with no cell reception. Some passersby took us to the nearest town where we called Budget. They said they would send a tow truck which never came that evening. They offered a replacement vehicle at the airport 2 hours away and the only mode they offered to get us there was a Uber. But Uber does not service that town.

We finally paid a local resident to drive us to the airport. We passed the disabled vehicle on the way down. When we arrived at the airport, Budget would not initially release the replacement vehicle until the original vehicle had been returned. Only when we explained that no tow truck had picked up the vehicle yet that they gave us the replacement vehicle. The only concession they gave us was free gas for the replacement vehicle and no charge for the extra day we needed. They did not offer to reimburse us for out-of-pocket expenses to stay in the town where we were stranded. We received a letter holding us responsible for the damage while the vehicle was in our possession. We will never rent from Budget again.

I had to go to Hertz and rent a car for $1000.00 for the week. My quoted price from you was $343.94. Then when I called the first number she told me nothing she could do as it was booked thru delta.

I called the number ahead of time told me and that person said it didn’t show that my reservation was canceled but she went ahead and canceled it. She then transferred me to customer service dept and he proceeded to tell me there was nothing he could do. That when delta changed my flight to a later time I should have changed the information on my reservation. I booked thru the delta site as part of my trip with them. This is horrible customer service. Now I’m forced to pay an extra $646.06 to rent a car from Hertz.

When we picked up the car they tried to talk us into using extra insurance for their company saying that if we had any problems they would deduct it right away. I used Allianz Insurance company before I left as my extra insurance to ensure the budget rental car.

When I returned to drop off the car I had three scratches. Not a dent, just scratches that was caused by a motorcycle passing me in the thick traffic. They charged me $700 to take care of the scratches. They also charge a extra tax for car rentals. They also tried to talk me into buying a third insurance policy for car theft. They won't let you talk to a human being. All you can do is fill out forms on the Budget internet website. They won't answer any questions and they will not return replies in a prompt fashion. They automatically deduct anything they want to from your credit card and you have no say so. They lower you in with cheap prices but then they really screw you in the end. If you have a minor problem with the vehicle they grossly overcharge you as they already have your credit card number. This company has pitiful customer service. Don't use them. I went to the airport to get some assistance, but the representatives were "parking cars". One hour and two representatives later I had a battery. Then the car alarm started going off at random times--in the middle of the night, early in the morning, at the hospital, at stores, at restaurants--multiple times each day for two weeks. On top of that when I requested extensions on my car, the rates doubled each time. Idaho Falls customer service said nothing could be done. When I contacted the company, the remediation was to reimburse $50.00 of the $1200 dollar rental fee--4% for the "inconvenience" of the faulty key fob. I travel a lot--this is the ABSOLUTELY WORST experience I have ever had with a car rental. If I could give this zero stars, I would.

Upon our return from vacation, we were surprised to discover a letter notifying us of an additional charge of $450 due to perceived heavy wear on the rental car. In response, I requested photographic evidence and received the inspection report, which included four images highlighting sand on the floorboards. Our journey took us from Eugene, Oregon to San Francisco, tracing the scenic route along the West Coast Highway and visiting beaches en route. The pictures accurately depict traces of sand from our explorations, particularly on the floorboards. While the inspection report deemed the sand severity as heavy, the visuals suggest a reasonable residue, especially considering the sandy environments we encountered. I propose that Budget clearly communicates the expectation for customers to return rental cars in a condition surpassing the initial state, if indeed that is the standard.

When we arrived in Burlington, after waiting in line for over an hour, we were told that the car that we had rented was not available and that we could have either an electric car, or a minivan. We opted for a Chrysler minivan, drove 12 miles to our hotel and spent the night. When we drove the car to our relative’s house, 5 miles from the hotel, the tire light came on and the display said that it had 9 lbs. of pressure in the tire. We parked at our relative’s house and called the Budget office at the pickup location. We were asked to bring the car in the effect and exchange. I said that I was unwilling to risk damage to the tire or the rim by driving on it and asked to have a car delivered to exchange it, since we were not given the correct car in the first place. They refused and gave me the number of the roadside assistance, which I called.

The roadside assistance came and since there was no spare tire in the vehicle (!!!), he just put air in the tire and suggested that I immediately drive to the airport to exchange it which I did, interrupting a family dinner to do so. This took over an hour. After exchanging the car, I realized that I had left a brand new, never been used, pair of Canon binoculars in the side door pocket. I went by the airport again but the car was gone, so I went to the desk. At the desk, they could not even find a record of the original rental, only the new rental, but said that they would contact the location where the car had been taken to retrieve the binoculars. They refused to give me either the location of the facility or the phone number, so that I could contact them directly to go by and get them, which seemed to me to be the simplest solution.

To make a VERY long story short, after many, many calls to the airport, to the lost and found department, to the repair department, I have not had the binoculars returned. They were obviously stolen by someone at the repair location, or they would have been returned. I did decline the Personal Accident and Effects on the contract, so I knew that I had little hope of Budget doing the right thing and covering my loss, but to add insult to injury they requested money for a repair that happened after the car had been driven 12 miles. I tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company, but they have sided with Budget.

If the car had had a spare tire, I would have changed it myself and driven back to the airport to exchange the car. The only reason that roadside assistance was needed was because Budget provided us with a car missing essential equipment and did not notify us of that fact. I will NEVER rent from Budget again and will also encourage others not to do so.

Didn't want a van, a truck, or electric vehicle, but finally accepted a Dodge with the promise of an exchange if we return. We returned and they offered an equivalent vehicle, a Malibu, but when we found it in the lot, it looked like it had been in a rollover accident. There was too much damage to drive off the lot without risking a claim against us. We got back in line to be told that the lot agent outside will help us. No other equivalent vehicles were available, so we got in line for a replacement, which is when we were offered a Corolla. We took it and when we returned it we got taken.

They charged us for week of eToll service, although we never signed up for it. They charged us for refueling in spite of our stopping at a gas station on our way to the lot. So after refilling the tank, I was charged over $70 to refill the full tank. There we paid for a weeks rental of a class of car that was never provided. Provided the eToll service for a week that we never requested and charged to refill an already full gas tank. The 2nd charge to my credit card was for $271. It wasn't until we disputed the extra charge, and then weeks later, we actually saw the final bill. The Salt Lake "local" office added an upgrade charge to the car, which we did not ask for, and charged hundreds of dollars for a "young adult" driver. We were not told there would be these charges.

After disputing it with the Salt Lake office they refused to change it. They said they are not "corporate" and can add on their own fees. When you rent a car from the web site you are not actually getting a full view of the cost since the "local" office can add on more and you do not know it when reserving a car. Very deceptive. We will never again rent a car from Budget. Our advice to all: DO NOT EVER RENT A CAR WITH BUDGET.

When trying to contact Budget, you reach a customer service department in North America that sends a request to Budget International who is supposed to be contacting the rental location. There is no follow up at all. They advise they need up to 30 days, not for a full investigation, but just to receive a response. Every individual response begins the 30 day clock again. There is no process for escalation if the location does not provide a response. After weeks of nothing, we called the Lisbon location ourselves and finally got agreement that there was a billing error.

The staff did not even try to reconcile back to rental agreement, we had to do that and spell out exactly why all charges that were supposedly “additional” to rental agreement, were actually already included! After multiple back and forth, we still don’t have acknowledgment on the full discrepancy, which is over $1000 US. When we call, we are told to wait for further explanation. But there is none, they just try to charge as much as possible to see what they can get away with. The customer service is atrocious and can only be described as abusive consumer practices.

They were not even sorry to make us wait this long. Because there is only one worker in the back. They knew all these people had reservation. They kept us in line for hours waiting. This is experience was a nightmare.

This company can't be trusted! Never do business with Budget or Avis, for that matter. They overcharged me 700 Euros for the damage I never had. I mistakenly dropped the keys in the dropbox after returning the car without requesting inspection. They used it and charged me for the damage I never had. That is the way these people make money. I will never do business with them again.

My wife reserved a rental car for a recent trip with my son and his family. When we got to the rental counter he attempted to rent the car but they wouldn't let him since the reservation was in my wife's name. Their suggestion was to just add him as a driver, what they failed to mention was there was an added cost for doing it that way. I called after I received the final bill and explained that we were not informed we could just simply cancel the res and have him do a new one to avoid the charges, they wouldn't refund me any money. Terrible customer service.

Made an online reservation- went to pick up car and was RUDELY told “I don’t have any cars available for your reservation.“ I am still waiting for my money to be refunded…. Took my money instantly but apparently you have to wait 10-14 days to get refunded. :(
