We rented a car for 4 days.. When we received our final bill there was a up charge for the car and an additional day rental. We should not have been charged for an upgrade of the car because they didn’t have what we asked for. Then we showed timestamp photos that we had returned the car within the allotted half hour window. They still refused to credit the additional day. Even with timestamp photos showing that we did not possess the car at the time they are showing in their computer. And a timestamp photo showing the car in the lot when we dropped off. They still refused to remove the additional day charged. If I could rate them a zero I would. We will absolutely never use this company again.

This company has ripped me off twice. I can't believe I gave them a second chance. The first time, I attempted to rent a car rental from them and was charged $794 for a week. Claimed the deposit was high cause I used a prepaid debit card. When I got to the location to pick up the car, they wouldn't accept my debit card. Yet they had deducted the $794 from my account already with the very card they refused to accept at the pickup location. In the process of trying to get that money refunded, I spoke to a man named Josh in billing at LAX location. He played like he wanted to help me. Told me to get a prepaid card from Go2Bank for $500 and that would cover the rent fees and deposit.

The next day when I hadn't received a confirmation email as promised, he said they needed $200 more on the deposit since it was a prepaid card. Told him I didn't have it and asked him refund my money. He then started blocking my calls and suddenly went on vacation according to his co-workers. I called the Go2Bank folks and they told me I had been scammed. They are working on getting my money back.. It's been a month and I still haven't gotten my first refund, so they got me for over $1200. Lucky I had receipts for the card purchase. Don't know if I will ever see my money. I'm 72 and on a very tight budget. How dare they take advantage of a senior citizen who worked her ass off to earn the little social security I get. I doubt if this review will be allowed to be seen.

I arrived at the Denver airport and took the Budget Bus to the rental car area. Since I was using Fastbreak, I was assigned a Toyota 4Runner SUV in space L13 by text. I had just enough time to get to the vehicle and get to work. However, there was no vehicle in space L13. The parking lot attendant said I would need to speak to the woman in the building nearby. I explained the situation to her, and she said someone must have taken my vehicle, so I could take the Chevrolet Equinox in space M23. I immediately discovered this was a downgraded (basic) vehicle with no power seats or power hatchback, etc. There was also a noticeable offensive smell, like body odor covered with Febreze. I then discovered the "gearshift" would not engage unless I repeatedly tried to move the stick. Also, I found no headlight switch.

I asked the woman at the Budget counter for a replacement or at least a standard vehicle similar to our previous rentals, like the JEEP COMPASS, CHRYSLER VOYAGER, and KIA TELLURIDE. She said if I wanted to change the vehicle, it would be an extra charge; otherwise, I should call customer service. So I called the Budget customer service line at 888-362-8343 and was told the same thing by the representative. After being completely late for work, I just left the rental lot only to find more problems!

When attempting to accelerate the Equinox on a short on-ramp to the freeway (or for any reason like going up a hill), the vehicle stalls as if an engine Governor is in place. A message appears stating, "Acceleration Reduced." Vehicles are speeding by me on the freeway at 70-80 mph on the left, but the Equinox would not accelerate to merge into traffic. At one point, a large truck almost rear-ended the Equinox because I was going too slowly. This vehicle failure could get me (or any driver killed!) I found online that "if the Equinox goes into 'limp mode, that indicates a problem, the underlying issue will likely cause the problem to return, so you must address the root cause, which could be a faulty sensor, a dirty throttle body, or low fluids, by getting the vehicle professionally serviced."

The bottom line is, I notified Budget that I wanted this vehicle replaced as soon as possible at another Budget location with the same Standard SUV features we have had in the past. I was told to just call other Budget locations but they claimed to have no vehicles available. This experience with the Equinox vehicle and the treatment by the employees of Budget has really shown that they have no care for their customers or their lives on the road. I have emailed Budget and called, but have received no reply to this situation. Bottom line is, they have proven they do not care about their customers. I would strongly recommend that if you value your life on the road and want a comfortable, reliable vehicle to rent, do NOT rent from Budget Car Rental!!

Worst company ever! Good luck resolving an error - all their calls are picked up overseas where the CSRs have no clue what you're talking about and worse yet, I can't understand what they're asking. I was charged TWICE a $450 cleaning fee for a vehicle that cost me under $100 to rent. I asked for proof and they sent me photos of pet hair UNDER the seats! I don't have a pet, nor was I in the car with a pet! Best I can figure is that the renter before me had a pet and they failed to clean it properly. How is this possible? I can't prove that I don't own a pet to them and why should I have to? PLEASE .... Take a video when you rent the car - make sure that you capture under the seats and under the car mats - if any. Then photos all around the vehicle as well as on top!!!! Budget will screw you, just because they can.

I had an awful experience Oct 7 at Love Field. I rented a red Jeep and waived their $30 a day ins. under much pressure by the agent. I went to the car which was dripping with water and drove to my family’s home on 135. I was in the car for 1.5 hours when I heard a swishing noise and pulled off the closest exit. I saw I had a blow out. I was shaking and nervous. I called my family to come help me. My brother in law was a mechanic and he looked in the truck and no Spare. Only a flat fixing kit. My tire was too bad to try this. We called roadside assistance and they did get a tow truck.

The tow truck driver said the Budget Avis service center was right around the block but Budget/Avis insisted he tow my car all the way to Love Field location. So they also said to go to Waco airport to get another car. Two weeks ago I got an email about charging me 125 to clean the car! I had the car on the freeway on a sunny day for 1.5 hours and never got out. How can it be dirty? Now I got letters from Avis/Budget that I am being charged 525. For towing to love field location and 125 for cleaning fee!! I had two bald front tires which is why I had the blow out in the first place! Never use this company. They are scammers and my experience was a nightmare

The rental price I agreed to on Sep 6th was 261.91. When I returned the car I was charged a small fee of 3.14. Not sure why? I then received a second invoice shortly after charging me an additional 535.82!! I was told because the mud on the tires from driving through Utah where some roads are dirt and if it rained had puddles and I was going to be charged a damages charge! The car required a car wash wish I assume every single car receives when it's returned. The business emailed me pictures of the mud on the tires. They claimed this is damages and the additional charges are staying! I have since asked a Manager to call me back. I've had to call the company for updates as no one has called or emailed me back since the pictures. They are hoping I go away.

How can a company who claims they do wash each car when it's returned charge a customer $535 to wash a car? This incident is a prime example of Budget's unethical business practices. In addition, when I showed up to pick up my rental the car was not there. I was told they could "call around" to see if anyone else has one? I setup a rental over 3 weeks prior. What kind of customer service is this? You don't have the cars available that customers take the time to pre-order. You want them to wait while you call around? This is awful business practices.

I arrived at the Burlington VT airport and proceeded to the Budget Car Rental to pick up a PRE-PAID car which I had also confirmed via phone twice prior to arrival….only to find the counter dark and closed, with a sign saying they had run out of cars and come back in the morning!! In both phone calls I had confirmed my rental because of the 10:10 PM arrival time and both times they had assured me they didn’t close until midnight and that my car would be available given that I had pre-paid. I had no option at that time of night but to go to the only rental car counter open (National) and they charged me $400 more than the price of my Budget rental.

This was on Sept 26; I had to file a dispute with Amex Travel (where I had done the original booking), as I never received a credit from Budget despite their statement on Oct 1 that it would be issued shortly; finally today (Oct 27) I was informed by Amex Travel that the dispute was “resolved” and I would see a credit in 7-10 days. Why this took over a month is beyond me - and what dispute?? I paid for a car I never received!!

We reserved a car well in advance for pickup immediately after our flight landed. Upon arrival, we stood in line for over an hour while only three representatives staffed the counter. The line stretched nearly out the door, and the employees appeared disengaged—spending time chatting with each other or disappearing behind the counter for long periods rather than assisting waiting customers. When we finally reached the desk, we were told the mid-size car we reserved was unavailable but that we could take a minivan for the same price. We agreed, and the representative directed us to row C, space #1. Once outside, however, there were no cars in row C at all. After locating an employee on the lot, we were told there was nothing they could do.

I went back inside, waited again, and explained that the vehicle assigned to us didn’t exist. At that point, we were informed the only available vehicle was a 15-passenger van. This was a trip for my daughter and me—hardly a reasonable substitute for a standard rental car. The entire process took nearly two hours, despite having a confirmed reservation and a clearly scheduled pickup time. As a business owner myself, I find it difficult to understand how a company can anticipate specific reservation volumes yet fail to properly staff the counter or ensure that reserved vehicles are actually available.

However, went in recently and they requested facial recognition…which seems like a way to collect data information for scammers or identity fraud. I say this because they don’t have the resources personnel to protect our personal data. Government agencies have a tough time with this. Why would a routine business interaction request something that compromise themselves and their customers. Budget puts a target on themselves when they house that kind of sensitive data. Stop requesting data you can’t protect.

On Oct. 17, 2025 I had a car reservation for a Toyota Rav 4 to be picked up at 10:30 a.m. I arrived at 10:30 a.m. there were two people working the booth. The young lady walked off and left the young man alone for 30 to 40 minutes as the lines got longer. I waited in the line from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Once I got to the reservation desk, I was asked what kind of car was my reservation for, I told the service representative and she stated, "Oh, I don't think we have anymore of those, but wait I think I can find you something similar." She wrote up a contract gave me the paperwork to go upstairs and they would give me a car there.

Once I got upstairs there was another wait of an hour or more for me. I was asked for the key, which I wasn't given a key downstairs. The rep. downstairs was called upstairs to what I thought was to bring the key. Nope, the contract she wrote up was bogus and they didn't even have the car that she put on the contract there anywhere. It took one other lady time to figure it out, and she had to rewrite the entire contract over. I told one of the reps they needed to give me some money back on the car after everything I had to go through. I was told all they could do was $50 for waiting from 10:30 to 1:45 when I finally got the car, after sitting on their bench waiting which wasn't tied down and flipped me off onto the ground. My back was hurting after falling, but I was just ready to get away from that God forsaken place.

I don't ever want to do business with that Richmond International Airport Budget/Avis Rental Car Service again. Talking about unorganization! They wasted my entire day and charged me for a full day. They owe me some more money back. Do not go there if you have someplace to be. I took pictures of how long the line was after I got to the reservation counter with a pre-arranged reservation. Terrible service in Richmond.

Once I got to the hotel, I realized that having a car was not going to be a good idea. It is tough to park everywhere and the downtown was very walkable.... so I returned to the airport and returned the car. The Budget attendant in the garage, told me I didn't have to go inside, and to just drop the car off and I would be credited. WELL... I was not credited ANYTHING! Their fine print says if you prepay and drop the car off early, there is no credit. I didn't even have the car a few hours! THIS IS THEFT!!! They want ME to pay to fix THEIR car??? ** They should have been bending over backwards to get their car operational again ASAP to minimize the impact to my family's vacation. When I rent a car, I assume the car is in good condition and well-maintained, not a piece of junk with a bad battery. And if something does happen, I expect the rental company to do everything in their power to fix the situation with as little impact to my vacation as possible.

Trying to charge me to fix their car is absolutely unacceptable!!! We have AAA, so we called them instead and they arrived in 15 minutes and tested the battery and found a dead cell, so it wouldn't take a charge. The front floor carpeting was badly damaged, with large holes and tears.

While in the parking garage, I noticed two sets of customers seemingly renting the same car and were discussing their options. Once I finally left the parking structure and drove toward downtown Manchester, I realized the front brakes severely shuddered with minimal pressure on the pedal. In the first case, in Arizona, they claimed they had no SUV class, which I needed and tried to give me an open pickup instead which would not work at all. Eventually they relented and said that it was late to be preparing the class of car I had rented, but they did do it. The vehicle also had a dent which I was not informed of but it had already been marked on a previous inspection so not a problem but concerning.

The second time, on the same trip, I required a low vehicle, a sedan so that my 90 year old mother could get in and out. I paid IN ADVANCE to be sure. They had no sedans of any size (small, medium or large) and my only choice was an SUV which my elderly mother struggled to get into. It's been difficult and dangerous this whole week to take her out. So a very important visit has been made difficult by the very poor practices of this company. The people at the office were very nice but could not fix what corporate gave them to work with. The lesson in this is that choosing your vehicle class with Budget is meaningless. You are lucky if they even have a car to rent to you. Both of these experiences were Fall 2025. Extremely poor fleet management on the part of Budget. I have yet to return the vehicle so we will see if there are any further issues.

Deceptive Practices at Budget Car Rental – Beware! I booked a car rental with Budget through Costco, picking up the vehicle at the SMF rental location. Despite verbally declining insurance coverage multiple times with the rental agent, I later discovered that $175 worth of insurance had been added to my invoice without my consent.

The signing process is incredibly misleading. The full agreement doesn’t appear on the electronic screen, so when you sign, you’re essentially blind to any hidden charges. When I questioned the final dollar amount, I was told it was just a deposit that would disappear upon return of the vehicle. I was reassured that the rental cost matched my Costco reservation. That turned out to be false.

After returning the car and seeing the extra charges, I contacted Budget to have them removed. I was told my request was denied because the signed agreement “confirmed” the coverage—even though I had explicitly declined it. This experience was a textbook example of unethical and shady business practices. I will never rent from Budget again, and I strongly urge others to be cautious. Always double-check every line item, and don’t trust verbal assurances. What’s shown on the screen is not the full story.

There’s a piece of metal in the tire.

(I wasn't aware I got charged right away because I was told I would pay at the counter upon checkout). I get to the checkout counter--After waiting nearly ONE HOUR, behind 25-30 other customers in the line at the airport, mind you- which was a longer wait than my flight halfway across the country. I returned my rental, no issues. Came to look at my credit card statement and saw I was charge twice. Once on the day I booked ($348 with Costco discount) and then again upon pickup ($385 no discount). I called Budget. They asked I sent an email with proof. I did. I sent credit card statement. A week goes by and I got no response. Emailed again- generic email response.

Called an agent. Spoke with a "Rose". Rudest person I have ever spoke to. Would not let me get a word in. Called me a liar and continued to read the notes that they failed to receive my proof that I was charged twice. Which was incorrect. I demanded to speak to a supervisor "Manuel". Who was definitely nicer to work with. But continued to argue with me for 15 more minutes that they were "legally entitled" to keep the higher charge because I signed the contract at the counter. I insisted that I had agreed to the contract under the agreed upon price with my discount, and should not be subject to paying the higher fee. This was the first and most relevant charge and they raised my cost at the counter, and this is a bait and switch tactic.

I threatened to contact an attorney (over $40 dollars) which is ridiculous that after being a customer who had such a bad experience, they were still trying to run me down. They finally gave me back the second charge, but it literally took me hours and grey hairs trying to accomplish this. I will NEVER go through this rental car company EVER again. Once she drew up the new paperwork I noticed that the total was now $242.12. I asked her why it was so much more when I had prepaid for it, and she said it was due to the deposit that I had to put down and I would be reimbursed that amount after returning the car. I also noticed the the new paperwork that she drew up had Lorton Virginia listed as the return location and not Albany NY where we had specified in the original reservation. When I asked her about that she said it didn't matter because we are allowed to return the vehicle to any budget location. I should have known better but we were on a time crunch so I dismissed my intuition, signed all of the paperwork, and left with the vehicle. The vehicle itself was clean and undamaged. While driving back to Albany I noticed that my credit card was charged for $442.12. This was in addition to the $127 that was already charged.

We decided we would make sure and ask about the charges when turning the car back in. When we got to the counter at the Albany location I asked the rep about the charges and what the total would be once I was refunded the deposit. He said he was unsure but noted there would be a one way restocking fee between $100-$500 because we did not return the car to Lorton as noted on the agreement. I explained to him the situation and asked to make sure that I wasn't double booked because my original reservation listed Albany. That is when the rep found that I indeed had been double booked. I asked if he could fix the situation and he said the only ones able to do so would be corporate at the 1800 #.

So in the end I was only refunded the original prepayment of $127 by customer care. They told me that because the reservation in my name was already closed, they were unable to do anything with it because they cannot modify it once closed. After this I will not EVER rent from Budget again! I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with the Lorton Virginia location in the Comfort Inn. As an aside, I am mentally running down the offerings when I picked up the car things like insurance, but I’m covered by my own insurance, a toll tag with the cost of $249 could’ve been 279 I don’t remember, I think I ended up paying about five dollars in tolls. I asked between Portland and Providence, Rhode Island what would I be looking at for tolls and the young man behind the desk didn’t really know but he said it could be quite a lot. No it wasn’t so they’re not even truthful when you ask a direct question. I won’t be back.

Terrible experience. We rented a car in Las Vegas and declined all add-ons, clearly stating we would use our own insurance. Upon returning the vehicle, Budget charged us over $150 in unexpected fees. Most frustratingly, although we had filled up the gas tank before returning the car—and our receipt confirmed it was full—they still charged us for 6 gallons of fuel. We called twice. The first time, they assured us the charge would be refunded. But after a few days, the charge remained. When we called again, a representative told us they would not issue a refund. Absolutely ridiculous. Very disappointing experience with Budget.

When I got to my destination I called to ask if I was charged and was assured I was not but when I got back my credit card was overcharged. Called to ask why. They said it was the insurance. Told the guy I refused it and he stated, "Yes you did. We will refund you as you did not sign for it," and then waited and never got my refund. Called back and they said the request was refused because I did sign but have refused to provide me a copy of my signature. Do not ever rent from them. After explaining that never was I informed of needing a credit card to reserve or use their vehicle, she put me on a brief hold. After a few minutes, she came back on and said there was nothing she could do but cancel the reservation. So, 15 hours before my trip is to start, I am without a car! The communication is poor from customer service to the in person reps. I was told to leave the key in the car which started all of this. We recently rented a vehicle at Everett Washington Budget Rental. When picking up the vehicle I specifically asked the guy doing the paperwork what I needed to do to return the rental. He said make sure it’s full of gas if not they will charge you 9.89$ a gallon. I then said that’s all I have to do and he again said yes. We turned this vehicle in on August 8th a full day before we were supposed to. In the parking lot there were two ladies cleaning all the returned vehicles and she said I could leave the keys with her so I did. I asked her what I needed to do to get refunded for turning it in a day early. She asked if I did prepay and I said yes. She then said because I did prepay I couldn’t get refunded.

Today August 25th we received a letter in the mail from budget saying we are going to be charged 125$ cleaning fee. I then called budget customer service and explained I was told all I needed to do was fill it up with gas and they wanted to hear none of it. After I got upset a little bit she said, "Oh we got pictures to back up the claim." She then sent them to me. The pics so some dirt on a floorboard but nothing showing it’s the vehicle that I rented. There is no way to prove this is my rental car. When I explained this to her she said well the pic of the mileage matches the mileage on the rental car you had. I said I know and it doesn’t show any dirt in that picture.

I then asked for her supervisor and a guy named Jacob ** got on the phone. This guy wasn’t any help as well. he is like, "I can give you 25% off the charge." I then asked, "And you are going to credit me for turning in the car a day early." Conveniently he said, "Oh that’s not our department, you have to call back for another department." I then asked him to send me a dispute form so I could dispute this and he said, "Oh you will have to dispute with your bank, not us." This really got me upset again and I think he knew it and he started backtracking say, "I was just about to give you a case ID number."

I will never ever use this car rental again. No wonder there are thousands of reviews on here talking about fictitious charges showing up after the fact. I then called another customer service number hoping I would get someone else that would listen to my side. Well I didn’t. This one literally said that because I said if I had known I had to clean it I would have, means I knew it was dirty. I will NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN. Budget rental is a scam. They will find a reason to charge you for something extra. Do not rent from Budget. Do not rent from Budget. Do not rent from Budget. Do not rent from Budget. Do not rent from Budget. Entire experience was terrible. I booked directly through Budget for my car rental and showed up at the scheduled time. There were no cars available. I was told to call later and check on when one was available, instead of them calling me. I had to Uber back later that day once I called and one was available. Then the phone customer service was even worse. I returned the car a day early and did not get refunded for that amount, so I called about that. I was told they would refund $1.00. When asking them if there was anything else they could do with the issues just to pick up the rental and not being refunded for the early return, they agreed to refund for a days charge. Then they could not process the refund because it wasn’t in the 48 hour window yet. He told me to call back and said he had a note on file for the refund to be noted and guaranteed I would not have to repeat the whole process again.

Fast forward to 48 hours later, the new customer service agent had no idea was I was talking about. She transferred me to someone else who I had to tell the whole story to again, all for her to say that they will not honor the refund. So sadly, it depends on who you talk to. For your own sake, do not use Budget Bloomington. Read through the rest of my review to understand why this is your worst option available in the area. They will lie to you and not rent you a car that you reserved and be exceptionally rude about. It is also worth noting that their office, if you can even call it that, is absolutely filthy. You will feel like you need a shower after going inside.

I'm going to the Better Business Bureau and the Office of Consumer Affairs today to report you for your shady business practices. You lie to your customers and take their money when you provide no service. This is by far the WORST rental car office in America.

Original Review: If I could give them zero stars I would. I had a rental confirmed for today at 8am for a mid size SUV needed to drive my daughter out of state for College. I show up, they not only do not have my car, but have no cars to rent me. They stated that there was no contact information to reach me last night, which is a outright lie. Never rent a car here if you actually want a car to drive. This was in Bloomington, Indiana.

Just don't. The potential savings in cost are not worth the hassle. I rented a small SUV to travel from VA to NY. We were barely on the road before the tire pressure light came on. The rear tire was supposed to be at 33 psi and it was at 11. Since we were already on our way, we just continued to refill it as we went along. We continued this for 5 days before the other rear tire also started losing air so fast that we couldn't keep up with refilling it. When I called customer service, I was told to go to a different Budget location and swap the car there. Once we found another location, the gentleman at the counter was very brusque, to be kind. No greeting, just, "Is the gas tank full?" It wasn't so we had to leave, find a gas station, fill up and go back to the store. Once I got back, again, not even a greeting and never an "I'm sorry for your inconvenience."

Felt more like, "Why are you inconveniencing me by having to deal with this." But he swapped for a sedan, which I hate driving, but at that point, as long as all 4 tires were full and safe, I was just happy to get going...until we stopped for gas and realized the inspection was expired. By 10 months! And the registration was expired too. It had commercial plates and the windshield wipers were useless. Luckily, the weather never got too bad. So, now we were again driving another unsafe car that was also illegal.

When I returned the car, I let the gentleman know what happened and that I would be contacting corporate about it. When I did connect with customer service, they offered me a voucher for a one-day rental. What? And when I mentioned that wasn't acceptable, they increased it to two days. And that is all they will do. Like I'll ever use them again. So, please beware of "Budget" being the company where none of the employees really care about the condition of the cars or safety of the customer at all.

This company deserves 0 stars. From the time of picking up the vehicle to today when I have been on hold for over 2 hours. We rented an premier elite vehicle. Was told that it would be similar to a Grand Cherokee or tahoe. Got to the airport which the line was AWFUL and it took almost an hour and a half to get through. We were offered a Kia Soul or Toyota Rav 4. We needed a three row vehicle as we were traveling with 7 people to Disney. They ended up giving us a truck because that was the biggest vehicle that they had. It had scratches and dents everywhere enough that we took a video of the whole vehicle in fear of being charged for something we didn't do.

The inside of the vehicle was FILTHY. There were hand prints on the ceiling dirt all over the sun visors and it smelt like smoke. We called Budget to turn the vehicle in at a different location but of course nothing could be done because they didn't have the vehicle we rented at any nearby location. We fueled the truck up less than 2 miles away and then turned in the vehicle. We then realized that we had a left a bag in the truck after checking in our bags and car seat. My husband went back to retrieve the bag. He stood there for 2 hours trying to get the bag back. Mind you they told us that we were the only truck that had been rented so it shouldn't be hard to find.

They still never went and retrieved the bag for us and then we had to get on our plane so he had to leave. I did the lost and found report and the next day once home they reported that a backpack was found at their location. I have tried EVERY customer service and lost and found number that Budget has to offer just to get hung up on every time or to be told I have to call some other number. Getting through to them has been absolutely a nightmare.

I also noticed that we were charged $400 after already pre-paying $600 for the rental. I called and she said that there was a fuel charge because the truck wasn't fuel. Luckily I kept the receipt and had taken a picture of the dash to show that it was fuel so I submitted those and was refunded the fuel charge. But then they charged us over $200 for an UPGRADE that we never received. We rented the most expensive vehicle and you gave us a downgrade and now want to CHARGE us even more for the vehicle.

I have called to get this taken care of twice and have been told that it would be escalated almost a week later and I still have not had any correspondence from Budget. They said I would receive an email regarding updates for the Lost and Found item. Have not received that and have not received anything else from customer service regarding my request for a refund on my upgraded vehicle. I will never use their service again at this location and maybe ever. It has been a complete nightmare.

I rented a car from them to drive 1-way, for 1 day 7/29-7/30. Baton Rouge, LA to Decatur, AL. I had to pick up a new truck for my company. After dropping off the car I was told I would receive a receipt via email. I got the receipt for $178.90 and figured all was good. 2 days later I got a text saying the vehicle was not returned. I called and was told it was a mix-up because the clerk in Louisiana accidentally selected Decatur, IL for the drop-off. I was assured the issue was resolved. I used my company issued credit card to book-pay for this rental, and on 8/01 Budget charged my card for $1,638, then again on 8/3 for $1,781. I hadn't seen those transactions because JP. Morgan declined them.

On 8/6 I received another text saying my rental had not been dropped off. I called and again I was assured the matter was being taken care of and to not worry. Then on Monday 8/11, Budget charged my card again for $1,900.85 and JP. Morgan let it go through. This $1900 was the 2nd approved charge from Budget now totaling $2,079.75. I spoke to Budget yesterday and was told the $1,900.85 would be refunded in 7-14 business days. Imagine how someone would feel if they barely scraped together the $178 to rent the vehicle in the first place and then was robbed of $2,000. AND that they won't get that money back for 9-17 days.

Online rental booking process not smooth and had to be repeated several times before confirmation was received, even though this was a very straight forward booking in a mid-sized US city. Pick up and drop off was smooth. I received inaccurate information from an initial phone advisor prior to booking as well as from the gate agent on pick up regarding appropriate steps to take to ensure that the appropriate documentation that I needed would be obtained upon drop off. Upon drop off, once payment was confirmed, it was only then that I was told that I would not be able to receive payment documentation as initially requested, only after payment was already posted to my credit card.

Agent at the drop off gate was unwilling/unable to resolve the issue. I called the customer care line, as advised by the gate agent to resolve the issue (the following day, because they were closed when I called from the pickup office). After discussing with numerous agents and being given multiple numbers to contact, I finally made contact with a supervisor who seemed completely unwilling to assist with resolving the issue, even though the issue arose based on inaccurate information that I received from 2 separate Budget employees at 2 different times in the booking process prior to payment. Extremely dissatisfying experience, and in my opinion, completely avoidable.

⭐☆☆☆☆ 1 out of 5 stars. Budget Rent a Car – Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). I recently rented a car through Priceline from Budget at PHL. The total quoted cost for a one-day rental of a mid-size SUV was $79.10, including all taxes and fees. I returned the vehicle early, in excellent condition, and with a full tank of gas. Upon returning the car, I went to the counter and was told I was “good to go.” I even asked the car attendant if there was anything else I needed to do, and he also confirmed that everything was in order. Strangely, no one inspected the vehicle or asked me to sign anything—something I’ve come to expect from most rental agencies.

To my surprise, shortly after checking in for my flight, I received an email stating I had been charged $99.25. Upon reviewing the receipt, I found a $17.99 fuel service charge, even though I had filled the tank just before returning the vehicle. Additional unexplained fees—such as a concession recovery fee, customer facility charge, and others—were also included, none of which had been disclosed in the original Priceline quote.

I contacted Budget to dispute the charges, but the customer service experience was equally disappointing. I was passed from one representative to another and had to repeat the same information multiple times. One representative had such a heavy accent that communication was difficult, so I requested follow-up by email to clarify the situation—but I'm still waiting for a response.

Budget could easily improve the customer experience by adopting more transparent billing practices and ensuring that all potential charges are clearly disclosed—especially when customers book through third-party platforms like Priceline. A consistent return process that includes a vehicle check and customer signature would also help prevent errors like false fuel charges. Lastly, offering more accessible communication options, including email and multilingual support, would go a long way toward improving customer satisfaction. This kind of bait-and-switch pricing and lack of accountability is unacceptable. I strongly urge future renters to take photos of the fuel gauge and save gas receipts—or better yet, rent from a company that values honesty and customer care. Disappointing from start to finish. I will not be using Budget again.

We rented a car from Budget Car Rental from the airport office usually at the lower level from arrival, and you will be directed to the parking lot where their office booth is located, where you will hand over the paperwork given from the main airport office. We picked and chose the car we wanted which is a Camry, obviously there was a corresponding rate for that. But when we went to the parking lot to get the key and the car, we were given a Chevy instead but it's on the way to the exit and he said it should be fine, there's no way to go back to the main booth who assigned the Camry since it was on the lane where all cars are about to exit.

I think they did it on purpose and then when we returned it they accused us that there was a damage. They didn't walk and inspect the car with us which is an SOP for car rental before the customer can drive out the car out. I know it was intentional so they can scam and rip off the customer upon return. I have all the proof 'cause I took pictures myself and all the proof that they were supposed to give Camry but gave us a different cars. I have to call overseas to reverse additional charges 'cause when you return the car there was no one to talk to. Clearly a "modus operandi" to scam people. Be wise guys.

Booked a Premium 8 seater SUV through USAA Perks!! Their website stated that the vehicle would be a Suburban or similar. Two weeks before I was scheduled to pick up the vehicle I called the local number however each time, the call was transferred to their 800 line. I attempted to get them to transfer me to the CVG location and was told that they had no way of transferring. I called everyday, sometime several times a day but had no luck. Also had problems getting them to transfer me to a manager. I finally at one point had to tell the rep, so you are refusing to transfer me, your customer to a manager". It was at this point that I was transferred. The mgr was of no help and lied to me telling she had no way of contacting them. I asked what happens if you get an emergency call for that location. She again said she had no way to contact them. I asked if she could send them an email and send me their response via email.

At one point I was told that I needed to drive to this location however this location is 50 minutes from my house. On Tuesday July 22nd, I called the local number again and finally someone answered. My call was to confirm that they would have the vehicle type that I reserved for pick up on the 24th. I wasn't satisfied with the response I received so I decided to drive to the airport.

Upon arrival I was told that they didn't have any Suburbans because they had been recalled and were sitting in a parking lot at the AP. I was told that they wouldn't have any 8 seaters or Suburbans available. I was directed to parking space K22, which contained a Platinum Expedition, that was extremely nice. I went back up to the window, told the rep that I really liked that vehicle. I asked if she thought that they would have this type of vehicle on July 24th. She told me that Thursday is a light day for rentals and that she felt that the Platinum Expedition would be available.

A gentleman name Sam, who identified himself as the Regional Mgr came out of the booth, and discussed vehicle choices, he even walked with me to show me the Platinum Expedition. He also showed me an 8 seater that reeked a strong ** smell. I told him that I thought that this vehicle smelled like ** and my thought was there is no way I am going to ride in this car for 11 days with this smell. He then opened the cargo door.

As we were walking away I told him that he had forgotten to close the cargo door. He stated that the vehicle needed to air out. I told him that I was willing to rent a vehicle where I was going if needed, because 2 others would not be riding with us to where we were going and that they were meeting us. He asked if I wanted him to locate an 8 seater. My response was that fine but it need to be as nice as the Platinum. I then asked him how I could reach someone at this location, he asked for my phone number and shared his phone number with me. I felt good at this point but little did I know things would changed.

We planned to leave at midnight on the 24th. On the 24th after not hearing from Sam, I texted him. He stated he had an 8 seater transferred from Lexington. He texted me a photo of the vehicle. I responded, do you still have the Platinum, may want to stick with that "this looks like the vehicle that smelled like **". He said this vehicle smells good and that they didn't have any Platinum Expeditions available. I told him this is a total disaster. It was at this point that his entire tone changed. He responded with "I will leave the keys with Sherri".

When I arrived there was Suburbans and Platinum Expeditions in the garage. I asked Sherri about these vehicle and she said oh these vehicles are for corporate/corporations. She then asked me for my license. Why would I give you my license when this situation had not been resolved. She said I have keys here for you for a vehicle. An airport employees saw what I was going through and asked me to follow her downstairs to the main counter so I could speak to a manager. I spoke to a lady there who told me that the supervisor was upstairs at the booth where I had just left. She called her. She came back over to me and said she told me that she talked to you twice already.

I went back upstairs to the booth and again inquired as to why I could get one of the premium vehicles that were in the garage. She again gave me an unacceptable excuse. She said you either take the keys for the vehicle we have for you or you can cancel your reservation. I told her that I was not going to take that vehicle, she then stand, "Well you need to cancel your reservation, what's your name," I stated you will figure it out and walked away.

This is not the way you treat your customers. They didn't offer other options. Pretty much said it this or nothing. I was left without a vehicle, 10 hours before I was scheduled to leave. They didn't care that it would cost more than double for me to rent the type of vehicle I needed and that my chances of getting a large SUV to accommodate us would be almost impossible. After reading other reviews regarding the large fees and charges they were hit with God was with me. The only reason I went with Budget was because of the additional driver waiver fee USAA offer its members..

We drove to the Aguadilla airport 'cause I was not driving back to San Juan being on the west side of the island. When we got to the Aguadilla airport, again I was told that they had no inventory. The girl told me I could take the vehicle to Pep boys to have them replace the tires. They have a contract with them.

We went ahead and arrived at Pep boys and was told that “corporate” has to approve the request in the computer. At this point we lost 2 days from our vacation 'cause we were not risking driving around too much with the kids in an unsafe car. Even the associate at Pep Boys was in awe at the condition of all 4 tires. Also, corporate wrote to the Pep boys associate to “put on the cheapest tires”. I have a copy of this. I got on the phone with customer service for Budget/Avis and went through 3 reps before speaking with a supervisor named Ben. He advised that they would refund me the two days I lost of my vacation from the rental. It’s been almost two weeks and I’m still waiting for a refund. They have also charged me since then an additional $289 dollars for “tolls and convenience fees”!

It’s ridiculous how bad this company is. I go every single year to PR and we always always rent from Enterprise but with the bad bunny being in PR, when I went to reserve, Enterprise didn’t have anything available for the time we needed so I gave Budget/Avis a chance. I regret that so much. I’ve never ever in all the years I’ve rented a car in PR, had to pay so much in “tolls and convenience fees”. They are horrible. This is a blatant attempt to exploit tourists and push through fraudulent damage claims. It’s unacceptable and unethical. The Kia Niro does not have Apple CarPlay, so the connection between phone and car was minimal. The navigation in the car is clunky and impossible to use while on the move if your plans change. The charging infrastructure in Utah for a non-Tesla is sporadic and the prices shift widely. I saw one location that charged $63/15 min while another was $6/15min. Also, the chargers were often difficult to understand how much charge had been delivered to the car and the charging time was much longer than with a Tesla.

As we got further from the airport the tire pressure light came on so we thought we will just add a bit of air once we get to our son’s house. We had to put air in on Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning so we decided to go back to the airport only to be told that there were zero cars to swap out. We were stuck so we decided to have the tire plugged and as told by a man at budget to summit the cost. Sat 90 mins. in tire repair shop, only to be told that there was a slit in the side wall.

Tuesday morning Budget Roadside told me that they would NOT bring a new tire out to us SO off to the airport AGAIN. Finally after much pleading for help after again being told that there were no cars to swap… magically two become available. I am now charged for damages!!! BS. This has been a horrible experience. I have pictures of the car and the existing damages. Never again. The stress and time spent on the tire issues was awful but then to add insult to injury I’m charged for damages I did not do. Had the Highlander been serviced properly BEFORE I got it the tire issue would have been discovered. *Overall, unimpressed with the entire experience

Received a car with a punctured tire that was slowly leaking air. Took it back to the rental facility only to be told they couldn't help. Then, was charged an additional $250 fee for minimal loose sand on the floor and dust that had accumulated on the dash. It's a money-making cash grab. Who knew you could get scammed so easily by a large business? Zero customer service. Same canned answers via email. Rent somewhere else. It will cost you the same no matter what you do. They'll do some pretty low things to get their money out of your wallet and into theirs.

I rented a car from Budget in the U.S. and was misled into paying for optional extras I never wanted or knowingly agreed to. The desk agent told us part of the charge was a refundable deposit, but it turns out we were billed for things like insurance and roadside assistance — even though we already had coverage and made that clear. We’d just arrived from an international flight, it was late at night, and we’d been travelling for 24 hours. The agent rushed us through the contract without properly explaining the charges. Yes, we signed — but we were exhausted and not told clearly what we were agreeing to.

When I contacted Budget to explain, they refused to refund anything and claimed the charges were valid just because a contract was signed — regardless of the circumstances or misleading info at the desk. Deeply disappointed. Be extremely cautious — Budget seems to rely on people being too tired or confused to notice they’re being upcharged. I’ll be filing a dispute through my credit card and won’t use Budget again.

In the process of finalizing the rental of the car, I was deceived at least once in that an extra fee that I had specifically declined in making the reservation was added to my reservation without my knowledge. Additionally, in her attempt to sell me gas the agent at Budget lied to me about the price of gas if purchased off site. She told me that gas would be $5.90/gal if purchased at a surrounding gas station when the actual price was $3.70/gal. I did not buy gas from Budget. In the end my final bill was $16% higher than the amount quoted to me when I made the reservation.

I rented a minivan from Budget Rent A Car in June 2025, expecting a safe, reliable vehicle for a family trip. What I received was neither. No spare tire was provided or disclosed, and we only discovered this after getting a flat on a dark highway outside Wilmington, NC. Budget left us stranded overnight with no real help. Their roadside assistance left us stranded, didn’t and they didn’t provide a replacement vehicle until the next day. After all this, Budget charged my credit card $842 for roadside assistance. Service I never requested, never approved, and nowhere mentioned in the rental agreement. Their response? A $10 Uber voucher and zero accountability. This is more than just bad service — It’s negligent, deceptive, and dangerous. If you value safety, support, and transparency do not rent from Budget.

Zero minus minus. 1st the name Budget is a misnomer, they are no less expensive than anyone else, although it probably refers to the quality of their, well, everything else. The car I rented was filthy inside and out. In less 10 miles the add oil light came on requiring not 1 but 2 quarts of oil. Had I not been already running behind for a funeral I would have taken the car back. If I hadn't had my entire family with me I would have driven it until the engine seized. After arriving my brother pointed out that the right front tire was down to the tire wear indicator showing what little tread there was. I got home and there waiting in my email was a how did we do survey. I shared all of the above.

The canned response from Budget. Dear Lori, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience. We appreciate your feedback since it helps us improve our service and your rental experience. I deeply regret that we were not able to meet your expectations regarding your previous rental. Good news or bad, comments from Budget customers help us to evaluate our services and if necessary, change to meet your expectations.

We rented a car online for a two week stay in Germany. The car was fine, but when we received the final invoice upon our return to the states, the amount was double of what we were quoted at booking time. We added insurance at the airport counter, but the amount quoted was not even close to what showed up on the invoice. We called and were told that the German Frankfurt office had charged country fees and tire fees, plus 19 % tax on top of all the other fees that were listed. We ended up paying $2,200.00 for a 2 week rental of a regular full size car (Volvo, no luxury car). the US office told us we would get a refund, but after 2 months and several calls we got nothing. the German office just hung up on us after putting us on hold for a long time. Terrible service!!

This review is for Budget Rent a Car at JFK airport (Federal Circle, Jamaica, NY). Employees at this location were downright hostile to customers, the line was very long, and even though I made a reservation, it took several hours to be assigned a car. Then, I had to pass on multiple cars due to body damage, punctured tire, flat EV battery. Finally, I settled on a car that had not been cleaned since the last rental. Employees didn’t seem to care at all… they had a “take it or leave it” attitude. And after waiting for hours, I just wanted to get on the road.

To add insult to injury, MONTHS after I returned the car, Budget emailed me claiming that the car was dirty and had several scratches, so I would be charged several hundred dollars. (This was AFTER I spoke with a Budget employee when I returned the car; he did a quick check and assured me everything was OK.) After reading multiple similar reviews on various websites, it’s clear to me that Avis Budget is running a systemwide scam to defraud their customers. Just do a search for “Avis Budget Rental Scam” and you’ll see what I mean. This company is disgusting, avoid them like the plague!

No cars available, gotta wait 2 hours, this is a franchise and the website doesn't know what we have in stock (some of the excuses I was given). So wat exactly is the purpose of making a reservation and prepaying? You got my money and I made a reservation so where the hell Is my car?

Pretty disappointing as a Fastbreak member getting to Budget at PBI to find they had cancelled my reservation. My flight was delayed by 1 hour and the 20 minute wait for the Budget bus meet my car was gone. Even though I included my flight number with arrival time that didn't matter. You'd think Budget would check for flight delays and text with a cancellation warning that did not happen. Best of you lie about the arrival time to allow for flight delays. The car I finally got was fine but the additional delay at Budget was not warranted.

They gave us a broken Tesla with everything disabled on the vehicle. No GPS, no radio, no Bluetooth, battery died every 2 hrs, the phone number in receipt was disconnected, We turned the car in early yet they lost the vehicle and were trying to claim we still had it. I'm not even telling you everything....NO refunds, NO credit, but I got a ton of extra fees. Zero help from any other agent at other locations. I documented everything.

This is the worst car rental dealer ever. Besides waiting more than an hour to get my reserved vehicle, I was told the vehicle I reserved was not available and offered a large van or truck as a substitute. Becasue I was now late for my appointment, I was forced to accept the large van they offered. But the thing that really pissed me off was I was overcharged $69.00 to fill my tank after I had already paid for a full tank at a gas station about a mile away from the Budget return location. I had only driven about 40 miles my whole 3-day trip, paid $14.00 to fill the tank and then charged $69.00. I contacted their customer service 3 times but never got the credit to my account. I will never use them again. Beware - they are rip-off artists! And I will not use Avis ever again since they own Budget.

I rented a car at Budget at YYZ on June 21st 2025, return it on the next day. Left a deposit for fuel, a partial refund was due. After several calls I managed to received a refund which was denied before. Points on my Aeroplan Air Canada Card were due too, after over a month I still don't have them. Service is so poor. Very unprofessional. Never again!
