Purchased travel insurance for a round trip ticket for my daughter to Amsterdam from Arizona (worth $1875) knowing that she may refuse to go at last minute, which is exactly what happened. Allianz refused to pay due to her issue being "mental health" even with a letter from her psychiatrist. What a waste of money! I would have bought the refundable ticket from American Airlines if I knew this was going to happen. I will never do business with Allianz again. They are a complete fraud & out to get your money! Do not purchase their travel insurance. I would give them 0 stars if possible.

What a scam. These people use their "personal change of plans" statement as their escape clause which they freely use to deny claims at their will. Every claim can be denied under this statement. Even ones they claim to cover if it's not worded exactly like they want it. What a joke. Save your money.

Every year my wife and I take at least one international with American Airlines (AA) and for many years, through their website we've bought trip insurance with Allianz, but, thankfully, we have never had to use it. In April 2023 we travelled to Nepal and while in the mountains hiking, my wife got sick and she had take a helicopter to go back to Kathmandu. We filed a claim and even though Allianz sent me a message saying that they will reimburse for the Helicopter and and ER visit for my wife and hotels she had to use when she went back to Kathmandu, they are now giving us the runaround to get the reimbursement.
So far, they've only given us the reimbursement for the hotels which was a small amount. It's been weeks since the claim was filed and every time we call to get an update they tell us the claim is being reviewed and that someone will call us with an update. They never call us and they keep us going in circles. This is my first experience with this company and I'm very disappointed. I'll be calling AA and giving them my feedback about this experience because after all, I got the insurance through them since they promote Allianz. I hope they'll do the right thing and give us the reimbursement for the helicopter and the money my wife spent to fight back home earlier to see her personal doctor. This experience with Allianz has been very frustrating and I will not buy coverage from them in the future nor will recommend them.

I would give no stars ✨ if I could. My husband’s bag was stolen in Lucerne train station. When we return back from the States, we had video proof of the bag been taken by two men. We had a police report. My husband submitted to the insurance all of this plus everything that was in the bag. It took numerous phone calls to get updates, and all they would say is they needed this and that. Which I had already been submitted. This went on for 4 months of back and forth, much confusion on their part when they had everything they needed.
Then they only gave him about $300+ out of the $2000 in the bag. Made many excuses. We contacted AX and they were quick, communicative and gave more than double the amount Allianz gave because we had their card. So much for paying for their insurance which was useless and I had other experiences with them before. So never again. It will awful to understand their foreign agents which adds to delays and further frustrations. Awful!

It pains me to do this. I have been using this travel company for insurance since 2019 and have had 8 policies through them from basic to premier. I have made claims 2019 and in 2020. I had made a baggage claim on my last trip for damage done to my bag and it was denied. The wheel on my luggage bag was damaged on pavement in a public place while on the way to the cruise port walking across the street. I was told my damage would not be covered because they have the loophole in their policy that states. *Your plan requires you to take responsible steps to keep your baggage safe and intact and recover it if lost or stolen.
In other words, if you buy their policies and your baggage gets damaged in any way or lost and stolen, they will not replace it. They will use this loophole in their terms and conditions to not pay out on the policy. When I asked to provide me with an example of what would have been an expectable accident Where you see the client had taken responsible steps to make sure that it was safe and intact, that they would have paid out on representative refused to do so and when I asked if the wheel just happened to have fallen off, would that have been covered, they would have called that wear and tear. (I would agree that is wear and tear) I don’t know how I could have taken any more responsible steps while wheeling my luggage to make sure that didn’t happen.
The odd part is I had made a claim for this a long time ago and never had any issues back in 2019 the same thing happened to me. It saddened me to see a company use its terms in conditions in such a way they can weasel out of paying claims. So even if your luggage is safe, secure in your possession and you have been walking on a good sidewalk, but your wheel accidentally got caught in a crack of pavement between another connecting path to the street.
I guess that's not an accident but wear and tear or you were not making sure your luggage was secure and safe which I don’t know any way one can really do that except to carry their bag fully which defeats the point of wheels. That is the answer you will receive from Alliance Global Assistance for all your luggage damage claim needs. I buy 2-3 policies a year, that is several hundred dollars I will put into a company that doesn’t use terms and conditions to rob customers of their policy. I will suggest the one reading this review does the same.

Do not use Allianz for travel insurance, they do not live up to their word. Prior to covid-19 we had scheduled a trip that was cancelled due to covid closures in Europe. When I spoke with Allianz they said that we could apply the insurance to future travel. Now when we finally have been able to rebook the trip they claim that they had a deadline that we did not meet so we will not receive a credit. No one had told us earlier that we had a deadline and I had spoken with the company several times about rescheduling. I would hate to try to file a claim with this company.

I went to Thailand and returned 20 days early and am trying to get a refund or credit for remaining money. Nowhere on the site does it have a way to cancel insurance. I phoned and wow.... have never seen a company that the right foot does not know what the left foot is doing. For instance I called from a number I got on my computer and gave my policy number and about 20 minutes of arguing I had a policy. It turned out that I was talking to a U.S. department so she gave me a Canadian number which was out of service. I finally got ahold of someone in Ontario and waited 1 hour for a callback and explained my situation and was told that I will be transferred to someone that can help me, about 15 minutes on hold that person told me the same reply, that he will transfer me, he transferred me and after one hour on hold the call stopped. What!!!!
After that. So I called and waited for a callback and she could'nt find my policy number, so I was sent to another department apparently to open a claim, on hold again but was told I would not be on hold long. When I got to talk I was told to wait again, this time for a call back. They never called back, The people answering the phones except for the basics, are clueless about my problem, makes me wonder if a person has the same problem as me when they have to file a claim? I will never recommend this company to anyone. Allianz can keep my money, I give up.

Again like other people I have read through the reviews. And yes I agree if there was a zero star that’s what Allianz would receive from me. I have filed claim re. Trip delay (11 hrs) plus another 4 hour delay after we missed our connecting flight from Toronto to Ns Canada .. Returned one day late. We only claimed our hotel room in z Miami …no shuttles / cabs / dinners, nothing!! But 4th week in February/2023 .. after submitting cc charge, original invoice from hotel, all threads of communication from Miami airport .. ids. Forms? You name it? They have it … but csr last week said it’s been sitting on an examiner's desk since March 3 /2023. It is now May 1? They won’t answer their phone and if do ?? after 120 minutes (I’ve been disconnected 5 times!! After waiting!!! Seriously lol).
Emailed? Asked them to call me back with a time? No call? Last time I spoke the lady said she’s not able to transfer me to manager ..but? She will escalate the request to call me and marked it “urgent“. I didn’t receive any calls? I’m calling Canadian Insurance Bureau, tomorrow and if they’re not able to help. I am hiring either a lawyer (and they’ll be paying for it ..). There is absolutely no way possible they can deny our claim. So they’re just ignoring me and have no intention of paying out but took my money on the same day that I purchased it?? Lol. And answered on the first ring!! I’m tired of being taken for a ride by these places. They could at least get in touch with me and explain “what’s going on? What’s the hold up?! That would be at least acceptable behaviour from a supposedly "respected company".

If you are looking for travel insurance and considering Allianz Insurance, please read this. This is my personal experience and an honest review and it is not meant to influence anyone's decision. I booked a travel ticket to India (both sides) for my family (4 travelers) in Kayak with a cost of $2700. As it was a long expensive trip with a longer stay and lots of uncertainties (because of covid time), I thought of paying additional $300 (approx.) for the trip coverage. For me, all is well until 3 days before my return date.
My wife slipped on the floor due to the wet floor and got a ligament disconnected. Doctor asked us for at least 6-8 week of rest to completely recover from it. Hence, we had to reschedule our return plan. It cost us to pay the airline the ticket price difference. I informed them about this incident for their record. I filed the claim after returning to the US and provided all the evidence as proof for my claim. They tried to find every other possibility and excuse to deny my claim and ask for hundreds of more documents to prove my case. As I had a legitimate case and claim, I produced all the documents they asked for.
They respond once in every10 days only and they keep asking for the same documents again and again. It took them 4-5 months to make a decision for a claim (medical). I asked them to close the trip interruption claim as I was mentally drained out and frustrated by their claim process. I spent many hours in claim processing, collecting bills, and long calls without any results.
Here is my take, if you don't encounter any issue during the trip, everything is well and good. Once you have a case for a claim, then you have to go through tough times and hassle from their claim team. It’s almost guaranteed that you won't get a single penny back, however they will give you a hard time (both physically and mentally). In either case, their business model is to get money from you and not to pay a single penny in return in tough times even though your case is genuine. I will personally not take their insurance ever and won't recommend it to anyone. I didn't receive any insurance benefit, however now I am happy that I came out of the unnecessary headache and trauma. I would rate this company 2 or 3 stars out of 10.

My wife and I purchased travel insurance from Allianz for our Hawaii cruise in 2022. The cost was $455. each or $910 total. Total cost of our cruise was just over $13,000. We were scheduled to leave December 2 but had to cancel in late November due to an illness and doctor's orders not to travel. We submitted the claim to Allianz along with all necessary paperwork. It took about 2 months, but they finally paid the claim for only just over $5,000. They only provided coverage for $2554 each person. This is clear in the copy of the insurance certificate I received, but I missed it, so this is on me, but charging $900 for $5,000 in coverage is outrageous. My advice is to make sure you are getting enough insurance at a reasonable cost or don't buy it. As it turned out I would have been happier not buying insurance and eating the entire trip cost rather than getting ripped off.

I would not bother to purchase extra protection from this company. I did not learn my lesson the first time and suffered again the second time. The first time with this company was due to COVID, which was the whole purpose of buying the policy but according to them more information was needed, which I gave them all my information including medical documentation. Still was not enough for them. My second event was postponed and we were not able to attend at the new date/time. Ticketmaster refused to refund and so did Allianz, stating it was not part of the policy. Well my policy states it "MAY" not be covered, never stated that it was not covered.
I even asked the representative about that prior and they told me that if the event time or date was changed it would be covered. It is better to just not buy it then go through all the hassle that they give you to just deny it for this is not covered per your policy. Save your hard earned money, it really is not worth it with this company.

We received an email with tickets from ticket master for the event and it clearly states at the bottom of the email that the tickets are insured. As we get closer to the event, it appears it may be snowing. My mother asked me to look into cancelling. I emailed Allianz and said I did not have a policy number. I did not hear back. The next day I called and stated she may need to cancel but we did not receive a policy number. I am told that the policy does not show as purchased and there is nothing they can do about it. We can purchase a policy now, but since she has already decided to cancel, it may not be honored. I ask whose fault is it that their company did not process the order?
Why does the customer have to take the hit when something on Allianz's end went wrong? Apparently this happens, and they just let the customer eat it, Rather than look at the situation and see that something was messed up on their end. Upon further review, the card that was used to purchase the insurance was charged for the coverage, but nowhere at Allianz do they have documentation of the charge. How do you run a business that takes in money and cannot trace it? They will be hearing from Master Card and Ticket Master.

I have travel insurance with Allianz Global Assistance. My wife and I booked a trip to Europe but then had to cancel as my sister-in-law, who was our travel companion, was diagnosed with cancer. Her doctor told her that she could not travel. I put in a claim with Allianz five months ago. We received partial payment fairly quickly (our flight from Calgary to Rome). However, we have not received our refund for our flight back (London to Calgary). I have been on the phone with Allianz representatives on three separate occasions. Each time I had to wait at least 2 hours to actually talk with someone. I explained the situation to each representative, they acknowledged that Allianz had made an error and that they would rectify the situation. Each representative told me that I should be receiving my claim refund shortly. Still waiting. In my opinion, this is a very incompetent organization and I wouldn't deal with them again going forward.

I made three, online claims for coverage under RBC Infinite Visa's Trip Interruption coverage, due to a major, pre-departure health crisis that resulted in trip cancellations. One claim was paid out quickly without incident. The other two were declined. One, citing the need for more documentation although the exact deficiency was not identified. The second was because I used a credit from a previous COVID-cancelled trip where an early deposit was made on a different credit card. OK, so now I try to reach Allianz Global's Canadian customer service.
First attempt: 1 hr 12 min on hold to reach an agent who took my number, put me on hold and never returned. No call-back. Second attempt: wait time advised as >100 minutes. Scheduled call-back arranged but never happened. Third attempt: wait time advised as > 100 minutes. Scheduled call-back arranged, did happen but was disconnected from 'Marlene' about 60 seconds into the call. No further call-back. Unbelievable - and - RBC refuses to get involved on the basis it's an insurance issue which must be separated from banking operations. RBC earns no marks for this either.

I am writing some feedback on your travel insurance services and the handling of client claim submittals: Be prepared to wait an hour plus or schedule a callback. Once an agent calls you back, it's often a farmed-out call to someone in Ontario. The usual information is required: full name, DOB, and claim number. Then be prepared to discuss the particulars of your claim submittal. For me, it was a straightforward claim submitted online 2 weeks ago for an injury rendered out of the country that was not a pre-existing condition. Be prepared for the agent to say that the email for your submittal does not show up yet on their system (even though it was submitted 2 weeks prior and you have a record of the outgoing email). Or, you may get this agent's answer "Our systems are backed up with daily submittal claims, so it's a question of when our system will be able to process your claim". When I asked how long that would take, the agent could not answer my question.
In addition, be wary of agents who insist it's your responsibility to contact the medical center where services were rendered and provide your case number. It is solely the responsibility of Allianz Global and the medical center to deal with your outstanding bill, not you as the claimant. Agents like to say that it's your responsibility, but actually, it's not-it's theirs. The 1-800-667-2883 number only deals with out of country emergency situations, so do not ask any claimant inquiries as it falls on deaf ears. When I said that I'd emailed the claims department with the necessary forms filled out online, there was silence on the other end. I asked agent Dame if he was still there and had heard me to which he replied "yes" and then said I was providing general information, but no questions, so I turned my affirmative statements into questions and numbered them aloud. It turns out he still couldn't answer my questions as it was not in his jurisdiction.
Finally, no apology was given for the delays on my claim and I felt like the agent had either skipped lunch and felt irritable or he'd just had a fight with a colleague, boss, or significant other. Be persistent with this insurance company as they are de-centralized in operations, highly disorganized, and like to push the envelope to another phone number and another department that can better serve your needs. I’ve not heard anything from your insurance company regarding my claim submitted on February 13th.

I sent it all in the same day and just got an automated response saying they had received it. A month later I emailed them to check that they had got everything okay and if it was still being processed...no reply.
Two weeks later I called them and was on hold for almost 2 hours. A guy picked up and asked my name and case number which I gave and he put me on hold again. Almost an hour later, the call disconnected. This is the company that airlines are recommending through their website?? Also their website that they try and send you to doesn't really work either...keeps sending you in circles. I purchased an annual travel insurance policy which covers international trips for up to 90 days. 68 days into a trip to Loreto, Mexico, I experienced severe pain in my right side. Via an ultrasound, doctors confirmed I had a large liver cyst that could possibly burst if I flew. They recommended medical transport so I contacted Allianz. After multiple contacts and 4 days, Allianz customer service finally called me. As this was an emergency, I had given up on them and made first-class reservations to fly home to Washington state for treatment.
I made arrangement to stop in Los Angeles if I became seriously ill, if the cyst burst in flight. My medical insurance only covers treatment within its network except in extreme emergencies. After 2 more days, their evacuation agent contacted me, confirmed receipt of and reviewed all their required documents, and finally arranged a conference call with me and their doctor who also reviewed the documents. The doctor recommended medical evacuation and against a commercial flight.
The evacuation agent instantly cut their doctor off the conference call. 30 minutes later the agent called back and instructed me to use my first-class reservations, that they would not provide medical evacuation. In extreme pain, I flew by myself. The worst part was transferring between wheelchairs and electric carts through the Los Angeles airport. I arrived in the late evening and went to urgent care early the next morning. I'm now scheduled for liver surgery. All documents including those documenting travel charges have been provided to Allianz. Each week I get another email requesting the documents. I've spoken with customer service personnel who have verified the documents are on file. Allianz travel insurance's marketing is misleading, and they are not transparent about the additional expense of obtaining "proof" that they require when filing a claim. I thought I was purchasing assurance that if I fell ill with anything that’s going around, I could at least take comfort in not losing the monetary travel value. At the time of purchase, their marketing emphasized Covid protection and the fear of not losing money because of it. I found out the hard way that not only is it a limited cap on what is covered, if you are unable to travel due to an illness, the cost of seeking medical attention is high and it is at your expense.
The Doctor's appointments and lab tests that need to be submitted for consideration to decide whether or not your illness is covered is costly. Currently the cheapest test in my area for just COVID is $189, Flu $150, and RSV $57, which alone is significant but having to make multiple office visits and other tests if your first isn't conclusive adds up. Learn from my mistake and do not purchase if you are worried about recovering travel costs due to illness.

I have previously bought medical insurance from Allianz and considered them trustworthy. I recently bought flight cancellation insurance from them through Aeroplan without access to the details of coverage. Coverage is for very obscure situations and did not actually cover cancellation of my flight based on 'changing my mind'. When I asked for a refund of the policy two weeks prior to the intended date of travel, this was also denied, and a 10 day window for cancellation after purchase of the policy was quoted to me. I have therefore paid $110 for a service which was never provided on a trip which I cancelled 12 days after booking and which has cost Allianz nothing. I am a fan of Kayak and use it all the time to plan travel at least 4-5 times a year. Unfortunately, my recent experience with one of its partners for car rental has been poor. In November I rented a car for 10 days in Australia for March 2023, which was fully refundable. I opted for the additional car insurance using Allianz Insurance. To my shock, Allianz immediately charged my credit card $121 within 5 minutes of making the reservation. This is despite the reservation being almost 4 months in advance of the actual service.
As often happens, my plans changed and 2 days later I canceled the reservation. Only then did I discover that Allianz only allows for a refund in the first 15 days after making a reservation. For a traveler that cancels a month later, the fine print indicates that Allianz keeps the money without providing any service. In my case, they did send me an email allowing the refund but then took 30 days to actually refund the money to my credit card.
No travel company should not be doing business with service providers that charge travelers immediately and then restrict refunds to only the first 15 days. This is a scam if there ever was one. Allianz should only charge consumers a few days before the service is provided and not months in advance with very restrictive refund policies. I will never use its services again.

It was very easy to purchase an annual Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Policy from Allianz Global Assistance; I made the mistake of purchasing a second annual plan when the first one expired, as we are retired and travel often. However, we sustained a Lost Baggage incident and had to purchase some basic items of clothing for my husband and myself for about $200. Our tour was to start the day after we arrived and we had only one day's worth of clothes and our 14-day Land Tour was about to begin. I never realized how difficult it would be to collect a few hundred dollars for the loss, after paying thousands of dollars for each of our policies to Allianz.
I went online in August 2022 to their website to file the claim and upload the receipts. I followed up with them by phone to ensure that the claim was complete but was told that more documents needed to be provided including verification from the Newfoundland Airport of the lost baggage. I provided that additional information as well. In September, I was told that they were very busy and that it would take time. In October, I spoke to a Manager who confirmed everything was in order and it would be a few days to complete the claims processing. In November, I get another email saying that I need to submit more forms. It is now December 2022 and I have exhausted my patience. In summary, Allianz loves to take your money for their insurance product but they won't pay you (in our case a few hundred dollars) when you have a valid claim. Do NOT do business with them, you will regret it!

My wife and I PURCHASED travel insurance from this company to cover the possibility of something happening during an eight day cruise. You just never know when the insurance might be needed. Our trip was scheduled in August 6 to August 14.
Our trip was interrupted on August 9 due in part to my mother suffering a massive stroke leaving her paralyzed on one side and not able to speak clearly. When I called this travel insurance they requested copies of airfare expenditures, hotel, and cruise costs and that my claim would be processed in thirty days. Thirty days went by and Allianz Global requested additional information from my mother's doctor on the diagnosis of her having a massive stroke. I sent them the documentation that they requested my mother's doctor to fill out. Allianz Global told me in thirty days they would have an answer on my claim in thirty days.
Thirty days went by I called to check the status of my claim and was told they needed copies of my airfare expenditures, hotel expense and the cost of the cruise because they never received them. I was completely aggravated angry and annoyed at this point with Allianz GLOBAL DYSFUNCTIONAL ASSISTANCE. It was pretty clear to me they had no intention of ever honoring my claim. Well he got insurance just in case I had any complications with my healing process and weather permitting due to not being able to get my incisions wet. Well it rained hard that day, there were no accommodations for me, we tried way ahead of time in case it did rain. I had no choice not to be able to go because I still had a walking boot on and could not get my incision wet. This is why he bought the insurance on the tickets to begin with. So I had to let my biggest dream go and they would not give him the money back! Even with Doctor's notes sayin' I could not go..
Why get insurance if you're not going to refund people.? She advised that the policy has been canceled (even though the previous told me there was nothing she could do). Then she proceeded to tell me that the refund will be on my next "billing cycle." What? After a couple of questions, she told me that I will get the refund in 30 days! really? It took seconds for the transaction to happen, now I have to wait a whole month? My claim is into the third month following submission of my claim. I suspect Allianz is overwhelmed by Covid related trip cancellation claims because it looks like the reviews were relatively good pre-Covid and almost universally awful post covid. I gave the company one star but I would give it less if I could. My biggest complaint is the lack of responsiveness and promises unkept. When I have been lucky enough to get through to someone on the telephone, that individual would inevitably claim that I needed to speak with the specific claim's handler assigned to handle my claim. A couple of times I was actually promised a call back within 48 hours; which never happened.
When I finally got through to someone at Allianz on the telephone who was willing to speak with me, she candidly told me she was not assigned to my claim and could not help. However, that same claims handler did tell me that the sheer volume of covid related claims received by Allianz has been overwhelming and the company simply can't keep up. For my part, I have sent all of the requested documents; but, Allianz continues to tell me that I need to send them an itinerary. I have no such document but did provide my airline tickets and a letter explaining my trip details, including Bermuda immigration stamp received upon my arrival.
My claim happens to be a medical claim and the event occurred on the day of my return flight from Bermuda to Boston. It seems pretty clear that my medical event is covered and the claim analysis appears to be quite simple. I provided the hospital billing statement, treatment records, and my credit card information and receipts. It is a modest claim of approximately $3,500 to reimburse me for emergency medical expenses that I paid in full on the day I received emergency medical care. No question regarding when and where the medical event occurred or how much was spent on emergency medical care or, that I was in Bermuda on my return date of travel when the event occurred.
I suspect Allianz is delaying payments because of huge claim volumes and likely playing a shell game to move certain liabilities to different accounting periods to smooth out its quarterly accounting. I am not enjoying the claim experience thus far and I can't imagine ever purchasing any type of insurance from this company in the future. However, having had a medical event in a foreign country, and realizing how difficult it may be to obtain reimbursement from my medical insurance carrier, I do think I will buy travel insurance in the future. Just not from Allianz.

I purchased her very expensive ticket from American Airlines, and purchased the Allianz flight insurance that American Airlines recommended. Two weeks before she was to leave, the country of Ecuador shut down the boarders for any students from other countries studying in Ecuador. The only work around was applying for a student visa, but that would take 5-6 weeks (background checks, interviews, translation into Spanish). Since the course started in two weeks, my daughter had the heartbreak decision of dropping out of the program, and the company organizing provided all documentation of occurrences for reimbursements.
Allianz refuses to reimburse the plane expense since it does not meet their requirements? Evidently, a country shutting its boarders does not constitute an interruption in travel. My husband and I spent hours on the phone with Allianz, and they kept on referring to some loopholes in the agreement. Allianz had us gather all the supporting documents and details and affidavits and proof before saying 'oh, but the specific type of problem, we don't cover that'. Four phone calls and HOURS on hold later, I finally got a recorded message saying that they were having 'system problems' and I should call back. This is the same phone number policy holders are to contact if they require assistance while traveling. Very thankful I didn't need them, as it is next to impossible to reach them. Eventually I sent a registered letter to their head office. Extremely poor customer service.

Purchased a year in advance of travel. Allianz is the biggest Ponzi scheme in the entire country. They did not honor our claim. We received our tickets and were waiting to board the plane. Ten (10) minutes before boarding was announced the flight was canceled. We had previously paid for a rental car and made reservations through AirBNB. If anyone has used AirBNB, you are aware you get no refund if you cancel without giving 24 hours notice. Our destination required a negative COVID test within 48 hours. Obviously we would have had to submit to a second COVID test for $500.00 for two passengers and be able to stay in a hotel for an additional 2-3 days so we could take another flight offered 2 days away. Allianz required that we supply the reason for the flight cancellation. We did so along with all receipts for travel that was cancelled.
After 4 months, our claim was denied. If this doesn't constitute a valid claim, I don't know what would. Repeat...Never purchase Allianz Travel Insurance, it's a total scam. Our total losses were over $4,000. 00 after the Airlines reimbursed us for the flight. Allianz claimed our flight being cancelled was not a qualifying event. Due to breastfeeding we are taking our youngest, but for fear of weather or other circumstances we decided to purchase the insurance for the tickets. When we received confirmation of the tickets the link to their policy did not work and therefore I could not review what I purchased.
I called customer service and they dropped my class multiple times. Finally several weeks after the purchase, I was able to talk to someone who said we would only receive a refund in the case the government issued a travel emergency due to weather and since I was past the 15 days to cancel I could not cancel my insurance. I tried to convey that we were unable to read the policy since their page was not working they said there were multiple avenues to find the policy and thus I was at fault for that. I am extremely unimpressed with their customer service and their so called insurance for the tickets feels extremely thin. I would not use them in the future.

Allianz took 4 months (!) to respond, and it came back essentially a flat denial (they acknowledged we qualified but denied all but $250 - out of thousands of dollars lost), no explanation, no number to call to get an explanation. During checkout, their insurance option comes up as "protect your purchase".... and that's it. Sounded good & worth it. I have cancer but it's in remission. I'm in treatment but it's managed. I purchase the tickets in October before Omicron. Figuring "who knows with Covid" I bought their insurance. NOWHERE ON TICKETMASTER'S SITE was there any mention of restrictions about this. So then, Omicron hits. My doctor tells me it's not a good idea to go to this concert due to the high transmission rate. So, OK...I have insurance for the tickets. So I thought. I even considered reselling them on StubHub, but just assumed that since I had insurance, I wouldn't need to. I thought wrong.
After putting me through endless aggravation and requesting the same information various times just in different formats, they denied my claim because of my pre-existing condition. My husband was really sick with an acute upper respiratory infection. He couldn't talk and was coughing a lot. His doctor didn't think it was a good idea to travel. I'm sure travelers on the flight didn't want someone with chronic coughing sitting next to them. We provided a doctor's note indicating the illness and the date, but that was not enough. They want a physician statement that includes diagnosis, and onset date of the condition and dates of treatment. Plus, they want verification from the travel supplier on their letter regarding any refunds received. And verification of travel supplier's penalties or copy of literature describing penalties.
What the heck are these that they want? I got the letter from them today January 24, 2022 with a 2nd request indicated on the letter. This is a lie as I was checking the status of my claim online every day and check emails every day to see if they had sent me anything which they didn't. I purchased insurance through this company for some concert tickets I purchased on Vivid Seats. I seen the insurance advertised on vivid seats' site. We paid $1100.00 for George Strait tickets for a concert on Aug 14, 2021. We paid for hotel, and airfare from NYS as well. Because both my husband and myself are not real familiar to assessing our tickets from the phone we went over to the arena the night before and asked for help from the box office. He could not assess them either but told us not to worry we were assigned to the seats.
When we got to the concert the next evening once again we stopped at box office to help us. This time it did not show we had tickets. The next morning we seen on our phones where someone had assessed our tickets last night, the night of the concert at 0800. WE OPENED a claim on Aug. 17TH. We had been waiting for a verdict almost 10 weeks and we finally got it last night. It was denied and they said my insurance did not cover that. Sounds to me vivid seats and them are in Cahoots! I purchased tickets in AUGUST through Ticketmaster with the Allianz insurance added for a concert that was happening October 10th, in September I had a issue come up and realized that I would NOT be able to make the concert so I emailed/called Ticketmaster to see if they would refund me and they responded back that the promotor is not giving refunds at this time. So I emailed Allianz, never heard back so I called several times over the weeks prior to the concert date in which EVERY rep said they didn't have ANY insurance purchased under my name. I asked them how is that possible when it even says at the bottom of my Ticketmaster stub that my tickets were insured and he said that is not always true and unfortunately I didn't have my policy # to give them.
After several failed attempts and I gave up, and just summed it up that I am out of $300 for these tickets!! Long story short... HOW IRONIC is it that I get an email from Allianz OCTOBER 11TH...THE DAY AFTER THE CONCERT that they found my policy... I wanted to scream.. So I called AGAIN and the rep said now I have to submit a claim to explain what medical issue along with a doctor's note but it's not a guarantee that a refund will be issued.. In short, I'm still waiting for reimbursement for our flights six weeks after notification of our medical emergency cancellation. This is NOT a Covid situation. My husband experienced a seizure approx. one week prior to our scheduled departure, which resulted in a diagnosis of a metastatic, malignant brain tumor. Surgery occurred Aug 23rd, from which he continues to be recovering and has not been released from care. I anticipate many long months of rehab, and no travel permissions. All medical documentation, purchase details, flight information and cancellation documents have been provided to Allianz, yet the claims continues to be 'in review.' To say I am frustrated would be a gross understatement. Never again will I use this company. It will be costly, but at this point, it's the principle of the matter, my next step will be litigation. Many people have given 5 star reviews for this company, however my experience has been quite the opposite.

I purchased this insurance to cover the cost of my concert tickets so if I was unable to attend the concert I could get a refund on the cost of the tickets. I knew I was not going to get the insurance money back. At the time, it was worth the $15/ticket because the tickets were $200. At first I was glad that I purchased the insurance because I am now not able to go due to a a medical issue.
I filed a claim to get the cost of my tickets back, and it was denied because I WOULD NOT give them the medical reason. They are requiring me to get a doctor's note stating why I am not able to attend. This is in complete violation of my HIPPA rights. They claim that it isn't because I am getting the doctor's note not them. I STILL HAVE TO GIVE ALLIANZ THE DR.'S NOTE. IT IS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS WHAT MY MEDICAL REASON IS!!!! My partner and I along with a friend purchased our flight tickets together which was a cabin ticket in May 2021 for departure in August 2021. We were under the impression by listening to the news and CDC that it was safe to travel at the time. August came and 4 days before our leave out date my partner was exposed to covid-19 with a child client of hers while at work. According to CDC if you had been exposed we are to quarantine for 10 days. She let her supervisor know and they wrote her an email stating to quarantine.
We sent in a trip cancellation claim to Allianz the next day which was 3 days now until our flight departure. We sent all documents including the letter from her supervisor and requested a refund. They denied our claim stating that it was a foreseen situation and they can not refund our trip. We called and after waiting on hold for long period of time finally got someone on the phone. We had to go as far as to speaking with a supervisor. He understood the situation and we pointed out to him under the trip cancellation policy 4 we are covered to get our refund. He advised us to email appeal support which our proof of documents and our cover letter stated reason for cancellation and the trip cancellation policy coverage. We sent those documents in the beginning of September.
We still have not heard anything back from Appeals. I called customer service back to get an update of the claim status. They said it was out of their hands once they denied the claim and I can only contact appeals support through email. This has been a long process and exhausting process. They do not uphold their policy as they should. We spent $640 for flight and insurance. We felt the insurance was necessary due to any unexpected changes, but we didn’t know it would be this much of a hassle to get our refund under a policy coverage they are suppose to cover. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Updated on 11/02/2021: Hey Fellow Consumers: I've now written a few negative reviews about Global Allianz Travel Insurance. My wife and I were in Iceland. We had to cancel a five-day Trek because of a hip problem she developed and which will require surgery. I filed a claim within a few days of the trip interruption. The company NEVER responds to questions filed to them on their website. I mean, NEVER! They closed the claim, and when I bugged them enough, they opened it up again to indicate they needed a note from an MD. I provided that note. I've received no acknowledgment. If you try to call them, plan on a one-hour wait. I will make sure I get the $6000 they owe me but I'm wasting many hours trying to get it. And, next time I need trip insurance, I will use ANY company other than Global Allianz. Signed, Alan K.
Original Review: We'll see how this eventually plays out, but my wife and I have had no responses for a recent claim for delayed luggage delivery and a trip cancellation. Because my wife injured her hip, we had to cancel a Trek planned for Iceland. They have an app, and a website, through which you can contact them. I immediately sent them a message the day before the planned trip which was to start Monday, September 6th. My message, dated Sunday, Sept 5th, resulted in an immediate email response from them which promised a response within 48-hours. I have yet to receive any acknowledgment from the firm. They note to expect delays because of Covid, but there's no excuse for them immediately accepting premiums but ignoring consumers once you attempt to file a claim. I shall look for another insurance company, and I encourage you to do the same. Signed, Alan K.

Avoid Allianz for car insurance. Some online travel portals that offer car rentals, such as Kayak and Europcar, offer you Allianz insurance when you make a reservation - for your peace of mind, decline them, and if you need additional insurance sign up for what the rental company offers when you pick up the car. I spent a total of 4.5 hours on the phone over the past few days, on three different calls, trying to get to talk to one of their insurance examiners, with no luck. On two different occasions they promised one would call me back, but nobody called within the time they promised, and their agents who I spoke to claimed helplessness at getting any of their rental car claims people on the line.
On my first call, I was advised by two different Allianz agents not to pay the rental car company until after speaking to an examiner who could see if they were not overcharging me, but I hit a deadline: the rental company needed payment in full or they would start charging daily for "loss of use". Allianz offered no help with this at all, and their agents were repeatedly unable to get anyone from their rental car claims group to talk to me at all. It was just a huge waste of time, and a lot of stress. So, you should realize that if you choose to buy Allianz insurance for a rental car, and need to talk to them or ask questions about an issue or claim, you will not be able to talk to the right people, and they will waste hours of your time without ever letting you talk to them. Do NOT pay for this worthless service. Avoid Allianz, and tell everyone else to avoid them.

We are in a global pandemic and they are only honoring insurance claims if you have proof of contracting COVID before the event you are seeking reimbursement for. They do not allow you to utilize their policy to cancel if you no longer wish to attend due to surging COVID cases in your area. During a challenging time like this they are not at all concerned in prioritizing people's safety. Do not use them.
Their entire operation is all "smoke and mirrors" with no one being able to give a ruling on whether or not your claim will be reimbursed. Instead, you must wait on a backlogged claim's interpreter who will take well over 10 business days to review your claim. This company refuses to reimburse any funds for a trip we had to cancel due to Covid-19 back in March 2020. The reason they have given is that the rental supplier offered us a credit. This is inaccurate, the rental company offered us 20% off on a 'future stay', until March 2021. Allianz claims we received a credit (the 20% off a future stay) and if we waived the travel credit it renders our claim non-eligible for reimbursement. So, basically, in order for us to get any reimbursement, the rental company would have had to offer us nothing and, since we obviously don't have another $5000.00 to spend (in order to get a 20% credit) and can't travel for pleasure due to Covid, they claim that we have 'waived' our travel credit.

I slipped and fell on a back patio in Tulum Mexico. I Had what they called Premium travel package Allianz Global. I hurt my knee and tore some Tendons and internal damage. I took a taxi to emergency clinic, spent several hours could not walk was in brace. Had to extend my flight and condo stay another 4 or 5 days as per doctor's written recommendation. My extra expenses including medical, transportation, condo extension, flight change was $1100 have valid recipes for everything. This is cheap spent about 6 hours total at emergency clinic two times with two doctors and x rays etc.
In the US this would have been $6000. They only want to pay me $319. after 50 dollars deductible. My wife is a lawyer who used to work legal insurance claims department and she told me ahead of time this is what they would do with no explanation. My knee is still bad. Spent another 10K in US with Drs. Save your money. The insurance is not worth the price, cost more in documentation time than worth it.

I went through Priceline to book a flight on Sunday December 27th. I purchased the insurance policy just in case anything happened. I was notified by my work two of our doctors tested positive for Covid and was required to get tested. I tested positive for Covid. Called Priceline and informed them I would not be able to take the flight. They offered a travel credit but noticed I purchased the insurance so I could go through them for just a straight refund but I needed to leave the trip reservation so they could file a claim and find the flight.
I then called Allianz and went through the claim process. My trip was not to take place until Dec 31st 2020. I submitted my receipt as requested, my itinerary, my document from the doctor as proof of positive Covid testing, the form they had me fill out for the refund, my email showing I did not take the flight because I cancelled and they have yet to refund my money. They now want a document on letterhead from United Airlines that they did not issue a refund after waiting the 10 business days they said that this would be resolved and refund issued that’s when I get the request for the letter. I reached out to United Airlines and they informed me all they are allowed to send via email is my ticket information.
I send the screenshot of that conversation to Allianz as well and yet here I am still without the $600 I paid for the trip while I’ve been out of work due to Covid and no resolution in sight. Seems my only option is to take the credit from Priceline and cancel my insurance because clearly it was pointless to purchase. I am so beyond annoyed after about 20 phone calls with Allianz I also called Priceline back and they stated they show where I called in before my trip to cancel and everything that if Allianz would just call them they would inform them of that and give them anything they needed. But guess what? Allianz magically can’t call Priceline to clear it up it’s out of their job descriptions. Priceline was great. Just need to switch who they offer insurance through. Terrible and a waste of money and so much time.

They had no problem promising service when we paid. They sent us an email when we bought the insurance with a link to their number and website. Non-working numbers, even on the website..

I purchased Trip Cancelation and Interruption Plan for the trip to Europe via Polish Airline and Rent-a-car in January with flight for July 18 2020 but I cancelled due to Covid-19 about 2 weeks prior departure. Polish Airline and Rent-a-car fully return the amount but ABC Express Inc. from Mississauga added Cancelation, administration, penalty fees and tax! I summited the application for added Cancelation, administration, penalty fees and tax! I was reimbursed today after about 6 months waiting for (understanding Covid-19 workload situation) and working from home also missing some of my information. It took me quite a few phone calls and taking one mail with the missing directly in to the receiving and delivery office. The final result was positive as they mail me home the exact amount I applied for! I was skeptical about Allianz but I was wrong!

I purchased the insurance to cover a ticket in case I wasn't able to attend. The show was for the following year because of COVID-19 and I was denied my claim for a refund due to the coverage only being for cancellations of events. I'm sure this company makes a lot of money off people purchasing because of the low cost, then only granting refunds for very few reasons. I will not purchase Allianz Global Protection again.

I purchased insurance in May 2020 for our trip in Nov 2020. My Husband just obtained a new job and could not take the time off. This was unforeseen as stated in one of the reasons to cancel. This was not listed on the reasons to cancel however they have a "other" option so that is what I put. I had also put because of COVID, our accommodations were canceled and our money was refunded! Which is another reason. They denied my claim. Be careful when purchasing this insurance because they will use any excuse not to cover you!

On December 17th, 2019 I signed up with Craig Travel for a cruise down the Danube in June 2020, culminating in a viewing of the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. Cost was $11,295.00 which I paid on February 13th, 2020. (Invoice #**) On their recommendation I purchase travel insurance with Allianz Global Assistance on December 24th, 2019 for $741.00.
On March 5th 2020 I was informed by my family doctor that I had been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer with metastases to several bones. Because treatment would be necessary, I cancelled the trip. As I cancelled before the penalty date of March 16th 2020, I was refunded the amount of $9295.00. However I was told the remaining $2000.00 would have to be settled with Allianz. I filed a claim with Allianz on May 25th 2020 together with all pertinent documentation, including a letter from my doctor and a consultation from the oncologist at the BC Cancer Agency.
To date I have received no information regarding the status of my claim. All they send are automated replies saying that because they are overwhelmed with Covid cases, things are delayed. I have stated time and again that this is not a Covid case but a Medical case, and a somewhat urgent one at that. Of note, the trip was cancelled anyway due to Covid.

I’ve been dealing with a claim since May 2020. They are sending me a generic letter asking for documentation and I send my documents. Am still wait for another 2 months to get the same letter again or phone and the agents will say, "Oh no don’t worry. We got the documents," then nothing until I phone back in a month and one the agent will say, "We escalate this," and of course nothing happened until I call again and someone will tell me they want a proof of communication between the hotel and Expedia, not what I sent like 6 months later and no one could’ve explained that!!! Still not resolved and ongoing. It’s very frustrating dealing with them. The Lack of communication is extreme and most of the agent are not trained properly. Will never deal with this insurance again.

I cannot recommend this company in good faith to any consumer. I received an email in early June 2020 that I would receive a refund on a cancelled policy. It is now November 2020 and although I have made several calls, sent emails and written letters asking about this refund, I have received nothing. I was given different phone numbers to call which took me around the globe, different email addresses and finally was informed that I needed to send them a letter from my bank/credit card that no refund was received. I followed through with everything each person or document told me to do. It appeared that Allianz kept stringing me along with the intention that I would give up. No refund as promised. Would not do business with them again.

I have bought travel insurance from Allianz Global Assistance for several years. I have filed a few claims and was always very happy with the results. I planned a month in Europe for September 2020. I planned this trip in February 2019. I bought $40,000 of travel insurance for this trip in February 2019 way before Covid. My river cruise and airplane tickets were canceled by the carriers and cruise company. I filed a claim for under $2000 for part of my trip not refunded. My claim was denied. I understand Covid is not covered but I bought this insurance in good faith and think I am still entitled to my very small claim.

I bought insurance because there was "Trip Interruption Coverage" which according to the policy (which I read!) "Provides reimbursement for the unused, non-refundable portion of your trip and additional transportation costs to return home due to a covered reason." Cut to my trip being rescheduled. It took more than 48 hours for Allianz to respond to my inquiry, I almost missed the deadline. I wanted to ask how I could do about receiving reimbursement for my car rental and they just refunded my insurance and pretty much gave me the middle finger. Their marketing is intentionally misleading, and many of their policies are blatant lies. Do not use this company! This should really be illegal.

I entered a travel claim to Allianz insurance on the 4th of April 2020. I received an email that due to the pandemic, the claims process would be taking longer than normal. On the 30th of May, I received an email indicating that all our documentation was in order, and that a decision will be made as soon as possible. I called the call center around the end of July, and I was promised that I would get my decision within 10 business days via mail.
I called the call center again at the end of August, and I was helped by a friendly operator that indicated he is marking the claim as critical, and that I should get an answer within 10 business days. It is now the end of September, and when I have time to call the call center - they are unable to take my call. This is shocking! I am at my wit's end. I will never use or recommend Allianz Global Assistance again.

My trip to Cancun in August was cancelled due to COVID 19. I am a high school teacher, and I cannot leave anywhere due to my work from September to June. The offer I received from Interjet was an extension to complete the travel before Oct 06 2020. Sun Palace did not offer anything officially. I asked for an extension to August 2021 so that I can use it. I was declined by both Interjet and Sun Palace.
I explained this clearly to Allianz Global Insurance. Then they declined to reimburse me any amount, not even for the resort despite they did not offer me anything stating that I was offered credit from Interjet and Sun Palace. I attached an email stating that as a proof. Also I explained clearly why the offer from Interjet is useless, and they seemed they understood, but then declined. It seems Allianz Global Insurance only does not care a claimant's situation. Their decision was very inconsiderate and/or unreasonable. Very disappointed since I thought this company cares about people.
