This is the worst Insurance Investment possible! I've paid for travel insurance through Allianz many times and two times I've needed it, they drag me out with needing more and more information, which only leads to my trip delay or interruption claim wasn't covered due to some small detail. I really don't get the point of spending the money for the non-coverage! Trust me- Save your money!

Should have read the reviews before I purchased this loophole insurance: I purchased 6 tickets along with insurance for my group. Unfortunately, one couple couldn’t attend because their babysitter became ill just 2 hours before the event. Based on the policy, this situation should have been covered under Rule #27, which states that coverage applies if “your childcare provider becomes ill or unable to provide care.” However, my claim was denied on a technicality. Their reasoning? The policy uses the word “your,” and since the babysitter wasn’t my personal childcare provider, but rather the couple’s, the claim didn’t qualify. This is extremely misleading.

I purchased all 6 tickets and the insurance together for the group, yet they refused to honor the claim based on semantics. It feels like the policy is intentionally written to find loopholes rather than actually provide coverage when it’s needed. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend relying on this insurance. This isn’t insurance, it’s a trap. The policy is clearly written in a way that allows them to deny legitimate claims over trivial wording.

I purchased a travel protection plan from Allianz Global Assistance and have experienced significant dissatisfaction with the service provided. Despite submitting all requested documentation, my refund has not been issued, and a month has elapsed without resolution. Attempts to obtain information regarding the delay by telephone resulted in interactions with customer service personnel that I judged to be discourteous. A request to escalate the matter to a supervisory level was not honored; instead, I was redirected to the general call center and required to repeat the inquiry process.

On the preceding day, I was informed that my claim had entered its “final review process” and that I should expect a response either that day or the following morning. When no communication was received, I telephoned again and was advised that an additional ten business days would be necessary for a final review to determine whether the refund of $695 would be issued. The basis for my cancellation was attendance at a family funeral, which was subsequently postponed due to the death of another family member four days later. Buyer beware also that the insurance for Allegiant is only covered up to $750. Read the small print. I also was what appeared to be a threat that if I were to take this public I may never receive my refund.

Very dissatisfied with the whole experience. My luggage was delayed for over 2 days. I submitted, and re-submitted all of the receipts with documentation. After 2 months, I received only half of my $500 claim, with no explanation on what was not covered. No one will return my repeated requests for information. Will never use this service again.

I purchased a Cancel Anytime plan and it’s supposed to let you cancel for any reason for up to 80% refund. My claim was denied because they didn’t like my reason. Then when I called they said I was correct and should have received a refund but that I would need to file an appeal and wait another two weeks for it to be reviewed. Absolute GARBAGE! Do not work with this company. Can’t believe that AAA actually works with these incompetent companies. Awful!

I've been traveling for years with my sons taking normal vacations like most people, l never had a need to purchase travel protection. Last year, my oldest son was supposed to go to Barcelona Spain for training in basketball, so to protect his trip because they seem to be unstable, I purchased Allianz travel protection just in case the school or coaches change his itinerary to protect my money. That was the worst mistake I ever did. This company is a scam. They take your money and put stipulations on how you can retrieve your money with their ridiculous stipulations, even if you provide evidence of unforeseen circumstance, from the school that forced you to change his schedule from the school he was going to attend. I paid for extra insurance protection.

No matter what the circumstance I should be able to retrieve my money no matter what. When I contacted them on the phone, they told me to look at their stipulations on how to retrieve my money, which was ridiculous. Did you get robbed, has someone died recently,, are you in a life-threatening situation in the hospital? If you don't fit their criteria they deny your claim. Absolutely ridiculous. Never again, don't waste your time. You won't get your money back unless you're dead. I provided them with the school information and notified them that his itinerary changed beyond my control. They refused to refund my $497.00. Complete scam. If you paid for protection you shouldn't have to go by their guidelines to get a refund. Very slick and sneaky just another way to steal your money.

My flight was delayed by two and a half days, which forced me to rebook my hotel. Despite submitting all documents, Allianz denied all reimbursement for the hotel changes. Their explanation was that “trip payments made after the date of incident are not eligible for reimbursement.” This logic makes no sense — how is a traveler supposed to pay for a new hotel before the delay happens? The entire point of travel insurance is to cover unexpected additional costs caused by delays.

My experience with Allianz has been TERRIBLE and I would strongly recommend that you not give them your business. The number of different people I have spoken to who seem to not have any paper trail of my claim has been disheartening (and the fact that I now have a long list of different emails and phone numbers that I’ve been instructed to use might account for this!) They told me they were paying the surgeon directly for emergency surgery, but two months later I’m learning that payment was never made.

They insisted on purchasing return tickets post-surgery but delayed so long that I finally needed to purchase tickets for one leg myself or risk losing the other legs. I have not yet been reimbursed for this. To date, I have close to $40K in outstanding claims between myself and the surgeon, and it’s been two months since I started working on this with no end in sight. I keep getting requests for documentation that I have already sent them. Save yourself the headache. Don’t work with Allianz.

I wish I saw the reviews of this insurance before buying it. I never write reviews for almost anything, so me taking the time to write this one is because it really upsets me. 😞 I bought "protection" for my booked room in case I couldn't make it I wouldn't be charged for it, but I got sick the day of the event. I couldn't call the hotel because it was too late to cancel, so I thought "No problem, the "protection" I paid for will kick in," and I will only be charged the insurance amount, but that was not the case. The hotel ended up charging me as if I had actually shown up, and when I called the insurance they said it didn't cover my situation because I didn't call the hotel, so then... What's the point of the insurance then?

So they told me to file a claim so they can review it, but because I didn't have a Medical examination done (I got a cold and sore body like the covid symptoms, but I didnt need a full examination for that, I just needed to not go to the hotel's event I had schedule and rest it out at home), so therefore, they denied my claim and didn't want to cover for anything. The hotel ended up charging me around $200 for a room I never stepped foot on plus this insurance that is taking money from honest people little by little... Not fair.... Soooo not fair....

I also received confirmation this medical claim was covered under my policy. Reviewed Jan. 20, 2026

We have purchased travel insurance through Allianz since 2009 and received great service, while purchasing the coverage. When having to actually use the coverage November 2025, it was a different experience. In fact, Allianz Travel Insurance became a detriment to our situation. My husband was admitted to a hospital in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with pneumonia. His condition continued to deteriorate and was transferred into the ICU, then returned to US via Air Ambulance. He was hospitalized in Mexico for a total of nine days. We were assigned a Case Manager while he was hospitalized. The Case Manager was knowledgeable and kind. She followed up with me when she said she would and if she didn’t have an answer yet, she called to let me know that.

The problem is when she had the week-end off, our case was not reassigned to anyone else. I waited for follow up calls that never came. This resulted in numerous calls initiated by me to inquire on the status on decisions made by the medical review department for air travel. This lack of communication resulted in additional and unnecessary costs out of our pocket (in real time) not to mention the physical and mental toll it took on me. Had the case been reassigned and if follow-up status calls been placed to me as promised, we could have initiated the air ambulance transfer 2 days before the flight took place.

The hospital was a private hospital, so the medical expenses were charged daily. I was required to pay in full each morning of his stay. The days our case was not reassigned, we were charged over $20,000+ per day while waiting for Allianz’s reply regarding medical transportation. There were three options in Allianz’s emergency medical transportation coverage 1- Medically necessary transportation to the nearest hospital or appropriate facility following a covered illness 2- Medically necessary transportation via commercial air with a nurse provided by Allianz. 3- No assistance.

NOTE: Allianz did eventually reimburse us for option 2- Emergency medically necessary transportation via commercial air with a nurse provided by Allianz. While we sincerely appreciate their attempt at service recovery, the idea he could have flown with this level of service is laughable. The $13,892 payment was a “far cry” from the actual cost of the air ambulance, $43,500.

The decision made by the medical review area at Allianz, was my husband was able to return on his own. This meant no assistance from Allianz medically or financially because they felt he was stable enough to fly back to the US. They also determined my husband was receiving the care he needed and should stay at the hospital. The care he needed… Not even close. In fact, had we not arranged and paid for the air ambulance on our own…I am confident husband would have perished there. This was a man who had not been out of bed or off oxygen since he was admitted. He was not receiving the care he required and because of this, he continued to deteriorate. I attempted to share a picture of my husband in the ICU equipped air ambulance, showing him on the gurney, hooked up to oxygen and fully sedated, but the system would not let me upload the picture.

There is so much more to this story and I BEG someone within Allianz to listen to my many recorded conversations with their staff. I was told the recorded conversations were intended to assist in “quality control”. I hope they do indeed utilize my conversations with that intent. I realize mistakes happen but it is in the service recovery, where companies earn or lose their reputation. It is where repeat, loyal customers like ourselves can be lost and negative experiences shared with others. I am the first to share positive customer service experiences because we don’t hear enough of them but in this case, with the exception of the Case Manager (while on the trip) it is the only positive part of this experience.

While we are sincerely appreciative of the $75,000 payment Allianz reimbursed us for, toward his $89,000+ medical expenses, his medical expenses should have been lower. The difference in his medical expenses ($14,000+) we incurred out of our pocket should never had happened. If someone at Allianz had followed up with us, much less in a timely manner…We would have arranged for him to leave that hospital earlier, avoiding the two days of $20,000 per day. In fact, the lack of communication resulted in a loss to Allianz as well.

My intent of sharing this review is, Allianz does not repeat itself with absolutely anyone else or their loved ones. Please do better, Allianz! As I collected my thoughts to write this review, I am stunned at how painful it is to relive that time. Yes, because of my husband’s serious illness but more so because of Allianz and their lack of customer service when it was crucial to us. Reminder, all of the information I shared in this review is 100 percent provable through Allianz’s taped recordings.

If it were possible to leave a zero-star review, I would. This policy provides virtually no meaningful coverage and appears designed to deny claims rather than protect travelers. I purchased this insurance specifically for unforeseeable, extraordinary circumstances that would force a trip cancellation. Despite significant international events involving government actions, resulting in widespread travel disruptions and flight cancellations, my claim was denied outright. I was explicitly informed that even government-initiated conflict, bombing of a capital city, and the resulting cancellation or restriction of flights did not qualify as a valid reason for coverage.

The fine print is so restrictive that it effectively nullifies the purpose of travel insurance. Situations that any reasonable person would consider catastrophic, unpredictable, and outside a traveler’s control are excluded. In practice, this renders the policy functionally useless. This experience demonstrates a profound disconnect between how the insurance is marketed and how it is administered. Collecting premiums while refusing coverage under circumstances this severe is not just disappointing, it is deeply troubling. I strongly caution anyone considering this insurance to read every exclusion carefully, because in real-world crises, this company offers neither protection nor accountability.

I always buy travel insurance when possible and Allianz has been outstanding for me on two different occasions within the past year. As I travel a lot with my family, the odds of us experiencing travel issues is high. Well this past weekend, Delta was their usual terrible self and we were delayed over six hours to our destination and we lost out on our pre-paid hotel, car rental and dinner reservations which was well over a thousand dollars. After uploading all my documents and proof from Delta Airlines of their inadequacies, I was reimbursed by Allianz the maximum allowed under my policy that I signed up for. Although it was not a full amount of reimbursement, the policy I paid for was more than generous and helped me to offset my monetary losses.

I regret not purchasing more coverage. Allianz was fast, simple and very accommodating and I am happy to work with them. I HIGHLY recommend using Allianz, especially if you are ever traveling with Delta Airlines. Both times I have used Allianz for reimbursement, I have flown Delta and both times Allianz was right there for me to help offset my losses. Based upon their advertising and website, they state that they insure against flight delays and medical matters. I did not have the latter but I did have a 3 hour delay that caused me to miss a connecting international flight. I also had to pay for overnight accommodations and meals. This is the very reason I bought the insurance. After a month they respond by saying my delay did not meet their 6 hour minimum time frame. I do not understand this policy but maybe I do - they want to limit the payouts on claims. I did not read the fine print after buying the insurance so bad On me I guess. But I would have not bought the insurance had I known the time frame as I knew I only had a 4 hour window between flights.

This review is because I am being denied coverage of insurance for a music concert event. Back on December 10, 2025 I purchased 2 tickets for a show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. I wanted to cancel the tickets and get a refund because my wife, who was going to accompany me to the venue is feeling ill (sick to the stomach). Allianz requires a doctor's verification for the purpose of the refund. This is the source of my frustration. An upset stomach typically does not require a doctor's care, so how would I get a doctor's verification on such short notice (the event is today)? Allianz says that They need proof because I could be trying to scam them. I feel like I am being scammed for the very reason I mentioned above.

If I was in a car accident or shot, or anything related to a medical emergency, who would be thinking about an event they had insurance for at that time? I have purchased event insurance from Allianz multiple times and have never once cancelled or tried to cancel. They say they need medical proof for their protection, but where's my protection against them for requiring documentation that most people would not have unless it were a true medical emergency? My question is just what is the point of the insurance if when it's time for a claim they have ridiculous excuses for not covering the claim?
