My experience with Allianz has been TERRIBLE and I would strongly recommend that you not give them your business. The number of different people I have spoken to who seem to not have any paper trail of my claim has been disheartening (and the fact that I now have a long list of different emails and phone numbers that I’ve been instructed to use might account for this!) They told me they were paying the surgeon directly for emergency surgery, but two months later I’m learning that payment was never made.

They insisted on purchasing return tickets post-surgery but delayed so long that I finally needed to purchase tickets for one leg myself or risk losing the other legs. I have not yet been reimbursed for this. To date, I have close to $40K in outstanding claims between myself and the surgeon, and it’s been two months since I started working on this with no end in sight. I keep getting requests for documentation that I have already sent them. Save yourself the headache. Don’t work with Allianz.

I wish I saw the reviews of this insurance before buying it. I never write reviews for almost anything, so me taking the time to write this one is because it really upsets me. 😞 I bought "protection" for my booked room in case I couldn't make it I wouldn't be charged for it, but I got sick the day of the event. I couldn't call the hotel because it was too late to cancel, so I thought "No problem, the "protection" I paid for will kick in," and I will only be charged the insurance amount, but that was not the case. The hotel ended up charging me as if I had actually shown up, and when I called the insurance they said it didn't cover my situation because I didn't call the hotel, so then... What's the point of the insurance then?

So they told me to file a claim so they can review it, but because I didn't have a Medical examination done (I got a cold and sore body like the covid symptoms, but I didnt need a full examination for that, I just needed to not go to the hotel's event I had schedule and rest it out at home), so therefore, they denied my claim and didn't want to cover for anything. The hotel ended up charging me around $200 for a room I never stepped foot on plus this insurance that is taking money from honest people little by little... Not fair.... Soooo not fair....

I had to be hospitalized in Portugal in Porto in July 2025. Because the staff there was confused re Allianz's requirements and response I opted to pay the $ 18,000 bill myself and then submitted my detailed claim and subsequent doc requests in August 2025. I also received confirmation this medical claim was covered under my policy. I have called at least 8 times and also received several emails, but each time a very kind customer rep tells me the case is being reviewed and I should hear very soon. Allianz did indicate via their website that all submissions were good and done and yet I still have not heard from them - not even a claim rejection - just nothing except that the website told me the case was "closed". They are waiting me out till I give up.

So premium payer, be aware!!! My step after posting this review is to discuss this unethical behavior on the part of Allianz Global Assistance's claims department with my Florida lawyer who is experienced addressing such cases. The claim we will now have will be larger than my medical claim. Mr. G.J. Groen ** Esq. Cape Canaveral, FL cc. Travel Agent

I would advise against using this service when traveling internationally

    Reviewed Jan. 20, 2026

We have purchased travel insurance through Allianz since 2009 and received great service, while purchasing the coverage. When having to actually use the coverage November 2025, it was a different experience. In fact, Allianz Travel Insurance became a detriment to our situation. My husband was admitted to a hospital in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with pneumonia. His condition continued to deteriorate and was transferred into the ICU, then returned to US via Air Ambulance. He was hospitalized in Mexico for a total of nine days. We were assigned a Case Manager while he was hospitalized. The Case Manager was knowledgeable and kind. She followed up with me when she said she would and if she didn’t have an answer yet, she called to let me know that.

The problem is when she had the week-end off, our case was not reassigned to anyone else. I waited for follow up calls that never came. This resulted in numerous calls initiated by me to inquire on the status on decisions made by the medical review department for air travel. This lack of communication resulted in additional and unnecessary costs out of our pocket (in real time) not to mention the physical and mental toll it took on me. Had the case been reassigned and if follow-up status calls been placed to me as promised, we could have initiated the air ambulance transfer 2 days before the flight took place.

The hospital was a private hospital, so the medical expenses were charged daily. I was required to pay in full each morning of his stay. The days our case was not reassigned, we were charged over $20,000+ per day while waiting for Allianz’s reply regarding medical transportation. There were three options in Allianz’s emergency medical transportation coverage 1- Medically necessary transportation to the nearest hospital or appropriate facility following a covered illness 2- Medically necessary transportation via commercial air with a nurse provided by Allianz. 3- No assistance.

NOTE: Allianz did eventually reimburse us for option 2- Emergency medically necessary transportation via commercial air with a nurse provided by Allianz. While we sincerely appreciate their attempt at service recovery, the idea he could have flown with this level of service is laughable. The $13,892 payment was a “far cry” from the actual cost of the air ambulance, $43,500.

The decision made by the medical review area at Allianz, was my husband was able to return on his own. This meant no assistance from Allianz medically or financially because they felt he was stable enough to fly back to the US. They also determined my husband was receiving the care he needed and should stay at the hospital. The care he needed… Not even close. In fact, had we not arranged and paid for the air ambulance on our own…I am confident husband would have perished there. This was a man who had not been out of bed or off oxygen since he was admitted. He was not receiving the care he required and because of this, he continued to deteriorate. I attempted to share a picture of my husband in the ICU equipped air ambulance, showing him on the gurney, hooked up to oxygen and fully sedated, but the system would not let me upload the picture.

There is so much more to this story and I BEG someone within Allianz to listen to my many recorded conversations with their staff. I was told the recorded conversations were intended to assist in “quality control”. I hope they do indeed utilize my conversations with that intent. I realize mistakes happen but it is in the service recovery, where companies earn or lose their reputation. It is where repeat, loyal customers like ourselves can be lost and negative experiences shared with others. I am the first to share positive customer service experiences because we don’t hear enough of them but in this case, with the exception of the Case Manager (while on the trip) it is the only positive part of this experience.

While we are sincerely appreciative of the $75,000 payment Allianz reimbursed us for, toward his $89,000+ medical expenses, his medical expenses should have been lower. The difference in his medical expenses ($14,000+) we incurred out of our pocket should never had happened. If someone at Allianz had followed up with us, much less in a timely manner…We would have arranged for him to leave that hospital earlier, avoiding the two days of $20,000 per day. In fact, the lack of communication resulted in a loss to Allianz as well.

My intent of sharing this review is, Allianz does not repeat itself with absolutely anyone else or their loved ones. Please do better, Allianz! As I collected my thoughts to write this review, I am stunned at how painful it is to relive that time. Yes, because of my husband’s serious illness but more so because of Allianz and their lack of customer service when it was crucial to us. Reminder, all of the information I shared in this review is 100 percent provable through Allianz’s taped recordings.

If it were possible to leave a zero-star review, I would. This policy provides virtually no meaningful coverage and appears designed to deny claims rather than protect travelers. I purchased this insurance specifically for unforeseeable, extraordinary circumstances that would force a trip cancellation. Despite significant international events involving government actions, resulting in widespread travel disruptions and flight cancellations, my claim was denied outright. I was explicitly informed that even government-initiated conflict, bombing of a capital city, and the resulting cancellation or restriction of flights did not qualify as a valid reason for coverage.

The fine print is so restrictive that it effectively nullifies the purpose of travel insurance. Situations that any reasonable person would consider catastrophic, unpredictable, and outside a traveler’s control are excluded. In practice, this renders the policy functionally useless. This experience demonstrates a profound disconnect between how the insurance is marketed and how it is administered. Collecting premiums while refusing coverage under circumstances this severe is not just disappointing, it is deeply troubling. I strongly caution anyone considering this insurance to read every exclusion carefully, because in real-world crises, this company offers neither protection nor accountability.

I would advise anyone to absolutely not use Allianz Global Assistance for trip insurance. They were lovely when I was buying the insurance, that’s when the loveliness ended. We had a four day delay due to weather trying to get back from a trip. The expedition company wrote 2 letters to confirm the delays. This was early September. I got conflicting advice on how to fill out the various forms and over 3 months they told me they were looking at things, then their platform wasn’t working. I probably called and emailed them at least 10 times over this time trying to get someone to review the case. They would always say it just takes time for the adjudicator to review the case. Finally after speaking with several supervisors they settled for less than the cost of the delays. Had I not been so persistent I would have got nothing. This is their gig - delay, delay and hopefully the person will go away.

Based upon their advertising and website, they state that they insure against flight delays and medical matters. I did not have the latter but I did have a 3 hour delay that caused me to miss a connecting international flight. I also had to pay for overnight accommodations and meals. This is the very reason I bought the insurance. After a month they respond by saying my delay did not meet their 6 hour minimum time frame. I do not understand this policy but maybe I do - they want to limit the payouts on claims. I did not read the fine print after buying the insurance so bad On me I guess. But I would have not bought the insurance had I known the time frame as I knew I only had a 4 hour window between flights.

This review is because I am being denied coverage of insurance for a music concert event. Back on December 10, 2025 I purchased 2 tickets for a show at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia. I wanted to cancel the tickets and get a refund because my wife, who was going to accompany me to the venue is feeling ill (sick to the stomach). Allianz requires a doctor's verification for the purpose of the refund. This is the source of my frustration. An upset stomach typically does not require a doctor's care, so how would I get a doctor's verification on such short notice (the event is today)? Allianz says that They need proof because I could be trying to scam them. I feel like I am being scammed for the very reason I mentioned above.

If I was in a car accident or shot, or anything related to a medical emergency, who would be thinking about an event they had insurance for at that time? I have purchased event insurance from Allianz multiple times and have never once cancelled or tried to cancel. They say they need medical proof for their protection, but where's my protection against them for requiring documentation that most people would not have unless it were a true medical emergency? My question is just what is the point of the insurance if when it's time for a claim they have ridiculous excuses for not covering the claim?

Never again. Never ever never. I purchased Allianz insurance that included trip interruption and cancellation due to severe weather events. I'd say Hurricane Melissa should qualify. Our destination couldn't be reached due to the severity of the storm and Allianz is saying that since we were on a cruise, it was a change of Port and isn't covered. I have a letter from the cruise line stating that the main port couldn't be traveled to safely, and to use their letter to file with insurance due to trip interruption. Allianz just keeps saying that they only cover for very specific reasons. I highlighted the wording on my paperwork from them showing that severe weather events covered included hurricanes or for travel to areas unsafe due to severe weather/hurricanes. They didn't respond to that and said they were attaching information to support their decision, and didn't attach it. I'd say because they don't have anything to support what they are trying to do. Infuriating.

Due to a family crises I had to cancel the trip, I started a claim to which they came back saying they would not refund the return portion which was the most expensive portion paid. Struggling to understand heavy heavy accented personnel they referred me to the airline as the problem and not them even though I bought the insurance in full. I would not recommend this travel insurance based on my recent experience. I had to cancel my trip due to pregnancy-related medical concerns. My doctor advised me not to travel because it could be dangerous for both me and my baby, so I had to cancel the vacation at the last minute. Since cancellation wasn’t included in my travel package, I relied on the insurance to help cover the cost.

The entire claims process took more than six weeks, which already felt unnecessarily long at a stressful time. After all that, my claim was denied because they said my medical reason didn’t qualify for coverage. For me, this was a very valid and serious reason to cancel a trip, and exactly the kind of situation I expect travel insurance to support. Knowing that even a medically advised, high-risk pregnancy situation isn’t covered makes me feel that the insurance doesn’t truly protect travellers when they need it most.

Purchased this on the Delta App with our tickets to Germany. Flight was delayed 24 hours because a pilot failed to show up on time. The cascading effect was a hotel in Europe that we could not cancel because it was within 24 hours and our rental car (booked through delta app) also was not available. It cost us an extra $1000 for hotels and rental cars. I requested numerous times from delta for a "statement of delay" I never received one. Allianz processes the claim, but says since we don't have a statement of delay, they did not honor any of our expenses.... that I even had receipts for.... They could have easily checked, but would not.

I literally had all the paperwork and all of the receipts and so Allianz sent a check for $20..... that's right $20.... $20 does not even cover the premium I paid them... NEVER AGAIN. I will never ever ever buy trip insurance again. It is a scam. I am contacting the insurance commissioner in the state of VA for fraud. Because that is what this is...

Purchased tickets for a concert and two of my family members were not able to attend due to school and work. This is one of the coverage that it specifies that you are covered under. But once you start the process, you are required to provide documentation from the school/job stating you had to attend. What kind of BS is this. I shouldn't have to ask my employer for a letter to provide in order to get a refund. That is the point of paying for insurance protection. So I lost the money on two tickets. To be honest, this is not worth it unless you are willing to provide all documentations.

The policy covers hurricanes, etc. but even my appeal was denied. My son recently became a professional travel advisor. He tells me that these policies are completely worthless, because the airlines actually guarantee the exact same things. Then the airlines told me the exact same thing that my son told me: "Never buy any of these policies because we cover the same things for free!"

After AGA denied my claim, I contacted Delta and they gave me a full refund! I never had to buy this policy in the first place! Never buy one of these policies ever in your life, because the airlines and venues guarantee the same thing that these people do. And, the airlines and venues actually take care of you! All these people do is collect your money and laugh.
