I took out insurance for our European trip and one of my travelers became ill and could not go. Allianz was extremely helpful and it was so easy to submit a claim form and they returned the entire price of the airfare. It is definitely worth taking out insurance through them because you never know what could happen!! I recommend them highly.

I will not give Allianz even one star. I had to cancel a trip on SATA Airlines to the Azores from June 12th--June 30th because I found out that my daughter had to have spinal fusion surgery on June 22nd, right in the middle of my trip. I received a prompt refund from SATA on my incoming flight to Ponta Delgada because it was a business class ticket.
For my return flight to Oakland on June 30th, I had purchased a travel insurance policy from Allianz Global to cover the cost of the flight in case of cancellation. Serious illness or accident of the insured or a family member is covered. So I filed my claim with Allianz and had to send a mountain of required paperwork and documentation.
I called and e-mailed weekly for several weeks and finally received an e-mail denying my claim on August 2nd. The denial stated that "the situation is not covered by the terms and conditions because the surgery was on the 22nd and the journey on the 30th June." The surgeon's statement I submitted to Allianz says that I, her caregiver, was required from June 22nd to July 22nd. My e-mails asking for an appeal have been ignored. Guess that insurance companies are the same all over the world. My only recourse is to file a complaint with the Portuguese Insurance agency and to tell anyone I can NOT to buy insurance through this company.

I purchased 300+ worth of concert tickets and bought their insurance since I was hearing rumors at work I might be getting a promotion so one naturally buys a protection for that amount of concert tickets. I ended up getting a bigger promotion than expected but required for me to relocate to a another area in the state. I called before even trying to file the claim and was told there would be no problem to just fill in a claim form and I would be getting my money back no problem. After 4-5 months of me having to make several calls and talk to 3 different managers and submitting numerous paperwork, my claim finally gets approved and get issued the refund checks.
I call to change the address since they were going to get sent to my old address and come to find out the claims have now been denied again because that is "not a valid reason" to issue a reimbursement. No one had the courtesy to send me an email or call me and tell me about the technicality until I called 3 times and finally was able to talk to a supervisor (Cory) about the issue. His response was of "oh I am sorry, my staff carried you along for 5 months with the wrong information, talked to different supervisors and was told the wrong thing, that your claim got approved, but now I can't reissue the payment. Oh and by the way be thankful I am not issuing you a reimbursement for the check you did received."
WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! Have no consideration for customer service at all, no one calls you and lets you know about this changes nor do they care you lost 5 months and then have the decency to even say "be thankful I am not making you pay me one more time for the tickets you called us about 5 months ago that you wanted to sell through a 3rd party vendor..." Ridiculous. Definitely not ever purchasing any of their so what insurance protections since the actual reasons for reimbursement do not even count.
I will definitely be telling all my friends and family about their horrible customer service so we do not ever have to go through that again and just sell our tickets a different way and not waste our time and get disrespected like that again... Oh and the call was 1:16 min for that... had to be on hold for 80% of the time... Definitely proud to work for a company who provides great customer service to their customers and won't put the blame on the customer for their staff's errors and actually takes the time to care and take care of every single customer.

I purchased the insurance as I was buying Delta tickets for a June 5, 2016, flight into Detroit. The insurance appeared to reimburse you for delays etc. Not only did we have to get off the plane after waiting on the tarmac, it was about another 9 hours before I could get booked on another Delta flight to Detroit. I had a couple of meals during the 9 hours and I paid cash. When Delta landed in Detroit we hit so hard that I had to get medical attention from the Fire Dept in Detroit Airport (who were wonderful by the way).
When I called Allianz July 26, 2016, I was told that I needed receipts for the food/meals that I paid for in cash during the nine hours. I said that it did not say that when I bought the policy. The only way to find out is if you submit a claim afterwards. So no money reimbursement for food. I asked for a refund because I thought they hide information that should be visible when you are first purchasing the ticket. Be forewarned - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on Allianz Global Assistance. Shame on Delta for selling Allianz to unsuspecting customers.

I am beyond disappointed that an airline like Delta would support a company like Allianz Global Assistance. I purchased travel insurance through them, had to cancel my trip due to a medical reason, I provided them all the documentation they needed (the amount of paperwork was beyond ridiculous) and two months later, my claim is still not resolved. I have written numerous emails and have called over 5 times. No one in that organization can give me a straight answer. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. It is a scam, they do NOT have your best interests in mind.

I purchased two $200+ concert tickets. I purchased insurance for them because that's a big number for concert tickets and anything could happen. Well something did happen. The day of the concert my best friend was murdered. Body found in a pond. She was suppose to go with me. In my devastation there was no way I'd be able to make it. Allianz states in its policy that if your companion dies you could get a refund. Well I submitted all required documents and still received an email that declined my claim request with no explanation. It has to be illegal for them to break their own policy. So disappointed.

I purchased a flight with insurance protection, for the first time, that read it would provide 100% refund should anything happen and I need to cancel. Turns out, I needed to cancel the flight. I call the airline and they cancel the flight with no hesitation, but prior to I ask them will I receive a full refund since I purchased the insurance and the rep stated I would but I needed to call Allianz and cancel the policy since that is where the protection was purchased. He then provided the number for me to call.
Since this was my first time I followed the instructions. I called the number provided, and it was automated instructions. "Please provide your policy number. Press 1 to cancel." I did. It then said "your policy has been canceled". I saw the refund the next day on my card but no refund of my plane ticket. I called Allianz. Told them I had not seen the refund of the airline ticket and they told me to call the airline. I called the airline back to only find out they have no affiliation with Allianz. They also said "we don't reimburse you. They do, call them back."
Basically it was a back and forth phone game. For me to only speak with a rep from Allianz who started off nice and ended with a not so nice tone implying that I was stupid for canceling my policy and that she would speak with her supervisor who would then confirm how stupid I was for doing that and that they would not be able to reinstate my already canceled policy due to my stupidity nor help me in any other way, (the flight was the 16. Today is only the 18) and to next time read through the actual terms of agreement. Welp! There will be no next time. I will NOT use third party vendors for protection on ANY of my trips, especially when they have customer service reps who tell a different story to customers each time you call, yet the customer is made out to be the stupid ones, and supervisors who believe that they are irreplaceable.
Now I am out of $389 and Allianz made ZERO effort to try and accommodate me in anyway what so ever. And by the way when you call in to cancel, not one customer rep ask why you're canceling to see if perhaps you're making a mistake. They just do it. So for people like me who are new at joining this they would never know that canceling isn't the best thing to do they would fall victim like I did. DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF!!

I contacted them via their 1800 Number before I bought the travel insurance and asked if there were complications would it be covered. My wife went 8 days past her due date and there were some complications. She couldn't walk or take care of the baby. The doctor told me that I need to take care of her and stay back if I could. I told her no problem I bought travel insurance. I filed my claim and it was denied on the grounds that there wasn't enough detail. I tracked down the doctor once she got back from vacation and had her provide the details. She literally wrote on it, "For the first week requiring ** to be home." Claim denied a second time.

I will never use this company again! I had a miscarriage and had to have surgery two days prior to my trip. My doctor told me I'd need to rest so I called Allianz to tell them I needed to cancel the hotel that I had purchased through Hotwire. They told me that if I sent in documentation from my physician they would give me a refund. I sent in all the necessary documents and two weeks later received a letter that my claim was denied because my miscarriage was a "prior condition." What if I had wanted to cancel because I just didn't want to go on the trip? The fact that I purchased travel insurance should have easily given me a refund.
This day in age most places will easily refund you as long as it's before 24 hours of your trip. But the fact that I had a true medical situation happen and was denied a refund is ridiculous. Thankfully after contacting Hotwire and the hotel I was able to receive a refund. I appreciate the fact that those companies were actually sympathetic to my situation and don't just care about the money.

Allianz Global Assistance provides insurance coverage for TD CANADA TRUST CREDIT CARD HOLDERS. To share my case, I used my credit card to buy a camera called DJI zenmuse x5 to use in a handheld device called dji Osmo. This camera can be used also with drones, but I bought it for a personal use and to replace my small camera on my handheld device, not a drone at all and I do not own this type of drones. When I purchased the camera, the invoice from DJI says Commercial invoice as this is their sale template.
Today I got a letter that my claim was denied for 2 reasons; 1 - Exclusions of coverage: coverage does not cover drones and part of drones. This is not just for drones dummy. It is for my handheld camera device that can be seen in Youtube everywhere. 2 - The invoice says Commercial: FALSE, I do not use anything for business and have nothing to do with commercial. Now if DJI has this template then I have nothing to do with them. Run away people and do not deal with either Allianz Global Assistance or TD CANADA TRUST BANK.

My experience with Allianz after the fact was like a breath of fresh air. I would recommend them and will use them again in the future. My issue and "buyer beware" concerns are with my car rental. Kayak recommended a Fox rental at London Heathrow airport. This was a total disaster. They claimed that my Allianz insurance wasn't any good and I should buy their coverage, I declined. Also they wanted to upgrade me to a diesel for an additional premium, I declined. Finally after two hours they asked me to approve a tip payment for their services, I declined. They didn't provide any directions from their location to the motorway, instead they offered a GPS package at a premium, I declined.
The rental vehicle arrived wet from the car wash and was hastily delivered to me. When I returned the car the attendant went to some scratches on the driver's side sill underneath with way too much ease. I had been very careful with the car for week and had not seen these scratches during normal use. I don't believe the scratches were caused during my rental. Then all of a sudden my Allianz insurance was good...and it was!

In each personal communication, the Allianz rep expressed sympathy, which surprisingly meant a lot to me. I delayed filing the claim, and they reminded me periodically to file it. When I did file the claim, it was paid in full without argument or difficulty. I was impressed with the ethics shown by Allianz as well as the helpfulness and courtesy of the employees I spoke with. Well baby came one day prior to flight home, baby had some complications - had to stay in hospital an extra day with mom and mom had no one to help get home the next day and be with her to help get situated on her first day home with a new baby.
So her sister called to change her flight and was charged to do so. In an effort to recoup some $$ we called Allianz, explained the situation, and their inconsiderate response was to refer to a certain page in the contract that says pregnancy is not covered. REALLY we have a newborn niece born with complications, a new mom trying to cope with bringing an infant home from the hospital, and the insurance would NOT reimburse her. This is wrong on all levels and they should be ashamed of themselves. Never ever will use them again!!

This was anything but so, apparently the insurance only covers if my flight is canceled or I'm dead, dying or hospitalized.
I am probably the idiot that should have read the fine print, however never again because to me how it was packaged, it was sold as an insurance in case I could not make the trip. I use to think JetBlue was one of the better airlines when it came to its customers, but I am reminded we live in a true capitalistic society and therefore anything for bottom line. I got seasick on the first day and took some medication. It didn't interact well with the high blood pressure medicine I had just started taking and my blood pressure crashed. The ship doctors put us off the ship in Key West on New Year's Eve, 2015. I went to one hospital and then another were they ran a camera into my heart to verify everything was okay.
Luckily Cruise.com had sold us a policy from Allianz Travel Insurance. They took over and booked my family in the last room that was available in Key West, paying $800 for a $150 room. They transported the family to Miami for $900 the next day and the put them on the only flight to Phoenix, booking and paying for same day flights, two of the tickets had to be first class. As soon as I was released from Mount Sinai Hospital they put me on the next flight to Phoenix. My insurance cover 90% of the $250,000 in hospital and ambulance bills but Allianz reimbursed us for the balance. They refunded the cost of the cruise for all seven of us plus our airline cost to the cruise ship. All without questioning anything. I will not take another vacation trip without the insurance.

Long story short, we bought a flight for relatives and included Allianz Insurance. Two days after we bought the policy, their kid ended up in urgent care, with foot, hand and mouth, which is highly contagious. We had to cancel the flight. For the next two months, I had multiple calls with Allianz, always ending with requests for further documentation. Finally it came down to a request for the date of onset. That's apparently different than the date the kid went to urgent care. It took another month to get them to fax the urgent care center, with me calling both multiple times.
Finally it came out that the doctor stated the date of onset as the date we'd purchased the insurance, conveniently for Allianz, since the policy doesn't start until the day after you buy it. That was the date that my mother-in-law noticed an undiagnosed spot on his face. Still it was two days before he became ill and went to the urgent care, and two days before we had a diagnosis that prevented the flight. That little piece of semantics was enough to have our claim disqualified.
So, after three months of calling and prodding them, of never receiving promised notifications of receiving documents, of having to even do their job and call the urgent care center for a fax number, I had nothing to show for it, except a determination to never, never do business with Allianz again. In fact, we already had a policy for another trip insured through Allianz, which cost me almost $100, and I've already cancelled that policy. These guys are unethical shadesters who will do whatever it takes to keep from paying out for policies. I'm persistent, most people would have given up months ago. That's what Allianz banks on, that they can delay and delay, until people give up, or in our case, they have some BS reason to disqualify our claim. It cost me $1000 to learn not to do business with this company, don't make my mistake.

They rejected it first because my jewellery was not on me at the time it wasn't covered?? So if I was wearing it and got mugged I'm covered. On February 12, Allianz charged me with travel insurance when I did not purchase it in connection with my ticket purchase. Then I called immediately to cancel it and I was promised that it was cancelled, and my money would be refunded. I received my credit card bill on February 23, 11 days later, and it was not credited. I immediately called up on February 23, and spoke with Eric (#**), a supervisor, and he acknowledged that I had a conversation with someone on February 12 to cancel my service, and they did not cancel it.
But, now Eric said that it might take a month for me to get a refund when they already postponed it 11 days because they failed to do what they promised me they would do on February 12. So because of their seemingly intentional failure to reimburse when they said they will, I am now faced with having to pay a credit card bill with a charge that I should have never had to begin with. Now that I know this is how they do business, there is no way that I would purchase insurance with this company that tries to trick and scam prospective customers.

After Allianz receiving all it asked documents, a client service called me, said my claim was approved and take 45 day to get money back from airline companies. Then they closed my case. After this ordeal, I had to switch the ticket, because this trip delay was due to medical reasons. Not only did Allianz deny the trip insurance to cover the first flight, they said that the doctor not being available was not a valid reason for delaying the flight due to medical reasons for preexisting conditions. This is the reason why so many people are fed up with the blood sucking insurance companies. Not only are the people getting drained from exorbitant costs from buying extra tickets, but they waste their money on purchasing insurance. I actually purchased insurance again due to his surgery being delayed, but I wish I hadn't.

I asked what that meant and was told it meant that services were totally stopped. I asked what that meant and was told it meant a total cessation of services. Won't bother to write what transpired for the next few days, but finally we received by e-mail a claim form, but only in one of our names. Caveat emptor! I note that on the ConsumerAffairs website today (2016-02-08) over one-third of the 242 reviews for Allianz have a rating of 1 star, meaning Very dissatisfied with the experience. I am joining that group. My wife bought the Allianz insurance on the United Airlines website at the time of booking a trip for my daughter and her boyfriend based on the websites assertions of protection against unexpected loss, the usual reasons why people buy insurance. From the United website. Their words: "Protect your travel with trip insurance. Add a travel protection plan to your itinerary so you can cancel or reschedule your trip for any covered reason."
Due to an illness suffered by my daughter's boyfriend, we had to cancel their trips. We submitted the required doctor's certification promptly, but Allianz refused to recognize the claim and denied a refund for the two tickets, as they refused to recognize his illness. So did the Allianz insurance protect us against loss? Besides the hit we took on the tickets from United, we also paid for the Allianz insurance that turned out to be absolutely worthless. If the amount of money we are out-of-pocket were greater, I would consider legal action. Instead, I am writing this review, and will file a complaint with the BBB and my states insurance regulator. Allianz travel insurance was offered when I purchased two first-class plane tickets on Delta, May 11 of this year. On Friday, November 6, one day before my scheduled flight, I became extremely ill and could not fly. I called my doctor and he suggested that I stay home to avoid contaminating an entire plane full of people. I cancelled my flight Friday evening and immediately filed a claim with Allianz. While filing my claim, I discovered that I needed to physically see my doctor within 72 hours on cancellation. My doctor does not maintain weekend hours so I called first thing Monday morning to schedule an appointment. My doctor could not get me in until after the 72 hour mark instituted by Allianz.
I contacted Allianz Claims Services as soon as I spoke with my doctor to ask if it was okay that my doctor could not physically see me within 72 hours. If not I offered to go to a walk-in clinic that day within the 72 hour time frame. Allianz did not get back to me until 2 days later to let me know that I should still see my doctor. I saw my doctor and submitted the requested forms to Allianz.
It has been almost 2 months since my first contact with Allianz and my claim is still not resolved. I e-mailed them a few weeks ago to ask why it was taking such a long time and they finally got back to me to say that they still needed more medical records from my doctor. I already submitted the requested forms and they confirmed that they received them. Allianz also never provided me written notice that they needed additional medical records so my claim has been sitting open all this time without resolution because I didn't know I needed to give them additional information.
At this point I am extremely frustrated with the poor service, long wait, and extremely unnecessary requests. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and want to make sure I get the word out on as many sites as possible that this company drags out the process and is extremely hard to work with on completely valid claims. I guess a person, if he makes his reservations early, he has to wait until less than 10 days from his leaving to call and get the insurance. Why do they offer it at the time of reservation? I purchased the insurance because I wanted to ensure that he would be protected while traveling alone and get home in a safe and timely manner. It took him 44 hours to get home and he slept in two airports. The original trip was 4.5 hours. This was a big ordeal. Due to cancelled flights and delays causing him to miss connections, he went from Iowa, to Chicago to LA but his final destination was Albuquerque. His original flight had one connection in Denver. This was a disaster and so stressful.
When he was stranded at LAX at 10:30 at night, with the knowledge he would have to spend another night in the airport, I booked him on a direct flight out of LA the next morning, seeing that all the flights that next day had more connections. I felt confident that the insurance policy would cover this, for this was the exact reason I purchased the insurance. The claim was denied and I feel ripped off. I had all supporting documentation and receipts. I suppose it would be a good idea if you have invested in a very expensive plane ticket, but please know, it will be very difficult to recover any losses if you file a claim. So shocking... Right from the start, I called on behalf of an elderly relative & at the end of the call the woman was laughing about how long we talked for & was clearly making a mockery of the claim. The customer... My family!! Overall, spent over 15 hrs doing their job. Asking the right questions, obtaining info & I initiating alternative measures for resolution! They didn't follow-up on verbal or written commitments (all recorded) or answer emails comprehensively or hand over to next shift correctly, if at all. They promised a physio which they did not deliver, & set-up what felt like little traps along the way. I asked if we should seek secondary medical advice to avoid compromising the case due to timelines... Not only did they advise no, they didn't meet timelines & said we needed secondary advice at the 11th hour.
I was told they had millions of customers so it was hard to get back to us, meaning they are taking on more clients than they are willing to resource for. The nurse was rude & contradicted herself on previous communications, as several of the case workers we dealt with. It felt like we're trying to make it as hard as possible to follow-up so we would give-up! I have dealt with many insurance companies and NEVER experienced anything as sloppy, unprofessional & stressful as this. They admitted it was poorly handled & could take a lot of learnings but refused to compensate the customer as their misconduct may have jeopardized her outcome. They even refused to call the airline to ask if they would help out if good-will considering the circumstances (as supposedly they didn't have anyone with the authority to rectify).
They said the airline would be very unlikely to support them, which also suggests their reputation with third parties is very poor. Please do not waste your money, but more importantly do not put yourself or your loved ones through the horrific & stressful circumstances that may result from having to interact with this company. Their overall rating is poor & they love to refer to the fine print once a claim arises.
At a high level this is a company that over-promises & under-delivers!! It is my opinion they target customers that don't read every word in the fine print (even though that didn't support my case) & people that trust insurance companies as they have never experienced an incident prior or have had a positive experience with another provider! It is a shame I cannot give zero stars, the fact 1 is the minimum & they sit at 1.4 says it all!! Do yourself a favor. Do some research & look elsewhere... I hope nobody else has to experience what we have!

Unfortunately, my wife contracted an ear infection and we had to delay our flight by 5 or 6 days at a cost of approx $400 in airline change fees plus an additional hotel stay.
A claim was filed with Allianz for the airline fees and hotel but after some 30 days and no notification was received I check the website and saw the claim was denied but no explanation provided. I call customer service to find out why the claim was denied and after some discussion determined that the initial reviewer was confused by the documentation provided and the fact the policy only covered the final leg of the trip. Once the situation was clarified, the claim for airline fess was paid but not the unplanned hotel stay or doctor's office visit since "medical" was on covered in the policy. My experience with Allianz was rated at 4 Stars (3 Stars was contemplated) in lieu of 5 Stars based on no notification or explanation of the initial denial was provided but customer service was excellent, the claim partially paid after clarifications and the fact that I was able to purchase travel protection at a reasonable price.

Excellent, fast, fair. Definite contrast to experience with airlines that took years to resolve (but was required before Allianz would pay claim). However, as soon as the airline payment was settled, Allianz reopened case and paid their share. Allianz was also helpful when loss of luggage occurred, trying to locate bag at that time.

Unable to travel due to a medical condition. My claim was rejected as Allianz stated my medical condition was "preexisting". I had no idea that they would reject a "preexisting medical condition", as the company doesn't particularly put its policies front and center (so to speak) for its customers. Since they rejected my claim, I called to ask for a refund of my expenses paid for the travel insurance itself. As far as I'm concerned, I paid money for a service. If they don't perform a service for me, I should be able to get my money back. That's not the way Allianz thinks... they told me that me filing a claim is a "service" and that I am not entitled to get any money back for the expenses that I paid for the travel insurance, since they apparently spent time and money to review and reject my claim. I asked the customer service rep how this is any different than someone stealing money from me. Because as far as I was concerned, Allianz was stealing my money.
The customer service rep just went into her long winded explanation about Allianz nonsense. Long story short, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME ON THIS COMPANY AND ITS "INSURANCE". All they will do is find any reason to reject your claim. Once your claim is rejected, they will also take your money spent on the travel insurance itself! It's a win-win situation for Allianz. They win.. its customers get SCREWED! I learned my lesson. Never again will I give my money to a travel insurance company (especially Allianz).

We purchase Allianz insurance for a 7-day cruise we booked. We almost didn't, as it was late summer and we were driving to the port, so weren't worried about weather delays or missing flights, but we did just in case. The unthinkable happened when my mother passed away the morning before we were to leave! The Allianz reps were helpful in guiding me how to initiate the claim, and the process was easy. Completing the form online and uploading some documents, we received a full refund of our trip invoice. I could not have asked for a smoother experience.

Our most recent attempt to provide Allianz with the supporting documentation needed to process a relatively small claim (under $300) for a weather related delay, we were told to submit a certain code number from our Discover Card activity. We were unable to locate any such code number on any statement. When we talked to customer service at Discover, they were unable to provide us with any code. I have requested a telephone call from Allianz.

Bought Delta Airline tickets and bought flight insurance. Delta flight insurance is really Allianz Global Assistance and Delta is totally out of that of the insurance. So they cannot help you at all. So you have to call Allianz direct. BIG PROBLEM. My problem is simply they charged me twice right wrong. 4 phone calls over 4 days and being told something different each time. Wrong email address to send my credit card statement being one. Whatever you do don't buy. I'm just trying to get $164.62 back. Cannot imagine trying to use the insurance to get back $2100 I spent on Airline tickets.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I had a good experience with them a year ago, but this time was horrible. I had a flight booked to Nepal to help with rebuilding after the earthquake and my airline cancelled all flights to Nepal due to the fuel embargo. So I had to rebook with another airline which cost $300 more and left a day earlier. I was advised by Allianz to file a claim and see what happened and then call back later to move my departure date one day forward. They denied my claim and refused to move the date ONE day forward. So they basically stole $107 from me for a trip that I never took. Book with HTH Worldwide Trip Protector Preferred instead! They have a great plan for $40 cheaper! I wish I had done that in the first place.

I purchased an event ticket protector policy for a concert that I was going to attend with 2 friends. The concert was cancelled and then rescheduled for a later date, for a date that is not compatible with my new work schedule. I went to file a claim and the customer service agent reads word for word the policy that states that the policy does not cover cancelled or rescheduled dates. This is information that would've been useful when I was deciding on if I should purchase this policy, but of course it is hidden in the fine print of the document they send you. Save your $20-$30, the whole thing is a SCAM!!!

This is the worst insurance company. They are so quick and reactive to take your money but when its time to file a claim due to unforeseen circumstances not a word. This is so terrible. I was looking to get a refund after my wife had a miscarriage before the date of scheduled travel date and they denied our claim on several occasions. I'm never buying insurance from this company again! Horrible customer service.

I bought two airlines tickets from American Airlines, 5 weeks before a scheduled release date of an 8-week old puppy, then bought what was advertised as "travelers insurance" from Allianz Global. A week before the flight, I was notified by the breeder that her 80-year-old husband was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and she needed the 4 new owners to pick up the puppies 5 days early as she could not properly care for them due to husband's deteriorating health. I cancelled my two airline tickets, drove the 790 miles and picked up the puppy 4 days early. I then applied for a refund of the non-deductible portion of the airline ticket ($412 - rather than the true cost of driving and hotels of $700). Alliance stated cancelling my claim due to a medical emergency of the people I was to visit was not a valid reason to pay the claim.

Do NOT waste your money on this insurance unless you know you will be in court, you are getting ready to die, or a family member you are taking care of is seriously ill, you think the flight may be hijacked or our country is taken over and messes with your travel plans. If one of the above then get the insurance. If you think they will actually help cover costs when things go out of your control you have a surprise coming. For example: I'm in a custody battle for my daughter and out of my control the judge has decided to move the dates around which is causing me to change my flight plans. Is this covered? No. And just about 99% of everything else isn't covered.
My suggestion is to not waste your money on this company. You are going to end up having to pay any change fees or new tickets anyway. Why add to the frustration of talking to one of their agents? If I could give negative stars I would for the misleading way this company advertises.

My husband purchased airline tickets for two trips through Orbitz and bought travel insurance through Allianz. Shortly before the first trip, I fell and broke my ankle so he had to cancel both trips. He received a full refund of the airfare for both trips with no hassle whatsoever. To be honest, we expected the process to be difficult but it was very simple and straightforward. We will buy Allianz travel insurance for every trip from now on.

These guys are the biggest bunch of crooks. DO NOT BUY THE INSURANCE EVER - YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY. Unless you are fired, someone dies, your plane is hijacked or a "natural disaster", you will not get your money back. The customer service folks have zero empathy as they are working for the evil empire.

Due to unexpected severe weather both at our departure and arrival cities, we were unable to make our flight. Although the airline refunded the original cost of the tickets and forgave the penalty fee, we had to pay an additional $250 over the original price of the tickets to re-book the flight for the following weekend. Having purchased the trip cancellation insurance I assumed that this additional cost would be covered minus the deductible. I was mistaken. The claim was outright denied and the explanation was that the policy is a "named perils" travel policy. Evidently Allianz will only pay trip cancellation if "the carrier cancels the flight". If the carrier cancels the flight, the carrier re-books the flight or refunds your ticket purchase. Obviously a bait and switch and I will NEVER purchase travel insurance from this company again and urge anyone thinking of purchasing a policy with Allianz to review the policy carefully within the time allotted for cancellation of same.

I had to attend an important business meeting on short notice so I purchased an expensive air ticket with trip insurance. Allianz did not provide any compensation for flight cancellation and delays. I'm completely dissatisfied with Allianz and will never purchase their insurance again.

Although my bag was lost, I was unable to make a claim for the delayed luggage, despite the policy stating that a claim can be made after a delay of 24 hours. Then when my bag still continued to be missing and I tried to get help from the Allianz representative, he continually discouraged my efforts to place a claim. I will never buy insurance from Allianz again and will seek a more sympathetic company.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! Purchased a ticket to Wilmington, NC and bought insurance to cover possible cancellation of trip. Unfortunately, my reunion was moved back a few days so I needed to either change or cancel my flight. Was told by Delta that in order to change my flight I would have to pay $200 so I decided to use the insurance I had purchased and cancel my flight.
When going online to use their automated website I discovered it did not work when it came to filing a claim, however, it worked if you wanted to buy a policy. With no option other than to call I finally got through and spoke with a person who looked up my policy and quickly told me that I could not file a claim because I was not with the military nor was I getting fired from my employment. So I guess I'm out $251.20 and Delta has lost a longtime overseas traveler who will never book another flight with their company again. BE FOOLED JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK ALLIANZ DELTA IS REPUTABLE. THEY ARE NOT!!!

I now am kicking myself for wasting my money on Allianz Global Assistance. The keyword here is NO ASSISTANCE! Allianz is very eager to take your money but when time comes that you need 'assistance,' the people at Allianz would make it miserable for you to make a claim. They'd find any and all excuses possible to avoid covering your claims. They list a phone number (800-334-7525) and claim that customers can contact them "anytime - we are available 24 hours a day." But when you call outside of business hours (EST), you'd get a recording saying their office was closed and disconnected the call abruptly!
By the way, when you call Allianz for 'assistance,' most likely you'd get customer service from Mexico City. There they'd say anything to get you off the phone and you'd get nothing out of it! I had far more trustworthy travel insurance policy with other companies before and Allianz is the worst! They are big and they're connected with AAA (auto club) but they are very evasive and ugly, when and if you need them. So, do yourself a favor: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ALLIANZ!
