    The customer service representatives were fine but I was extremely unhappy that I was not reimbursed for my flight. We have a son with mental illness and it often seems not worth it to try to go anywhere because plans get derailed. I decided to move forward with our plans to visit our friends on the east coast with the thought that "This time I will purchase flight insurance just in case something happens".

    In the past we have opted not to go forward with plans because of fear we might need to cancel or we have purchased tickets and then had to cancel. I was so disappointed to have our claim denied. I wasted more money than I needed to on the trip by purchasing a useless policy. I don't wish our circumstance on anyone but it is difficult enough having a life centered around a loved one with mental and then to feel ripped off on top of it just adds to the pain.

    My flight was delayed for 2nd plane in PA and airport got me another flight at another airport 50 min away, however they could not give me transportation and I had to pay over 100.00 for taxi ride to get to other airport in another city.     Health problem traveling in Germany. Experienced an unusual pain that persisted. Called Allianz: This was the only problematic point. Trouble making a connection. First connection sounded like it was received in "India", voices could be heard talking in the background, then call was dropped. Second connection sounded like the first but then without special notice was connected to "America". From there the whole experience was excellent. The lady on the phone encouraged me to seek help and explained very clearly what to do if treated by a doctor in his office, or what to do if hospital admission was required. The doctor's examination and treatment were all that was needed and I was feeling better within hours. I credit the encouragement and assurances from Allianz for this.

    On return home I submitted the documentation for reimbursement as instructed on the call to Allianz and received prompt response and expect (as per email) to receive a check soon. Other than making initial contact the experience was excellent. I have purchased Allianz many times. This was my first need to call for assistance. I will certainly continue to purchase their service based on the fine response this time.

    I took out a simple policy for a trip to Canada as now required by Canadian gov't. A slight accident, stepping on a piece of wood in long grass and rusty nail through shoe into foot. Helpline was useful (although could not of course recommend any medical treatment). As it was a Sunday holiday weekend and out in the farmland, a lengthy (60 miles) exploration needed to find medi-clinic for a tetanus shot. This was not easy and a fifth star would be awarded if Allianz service could have provided places to go for this.     I purchase a policy for my father and myself last year, my father had a health issue that was documented and the claim approved. Allianz claims to have paid the claim in December of last year. They sent us a copy of the cashed check that was in someone else's name. They then had us notarize documents that verified we never received the payment. They explained that the bank was investigating for fraud and that could take up to 90 days. They asked for my banking information to wire the money to us.

    So here we are in June, my Father passed away waiting for his payment for an approved claim. I have dealt with many companies being in business myself for over 30 years. Allianz has horrible customer service, their communication skills are deplorable and numerous people are involved in the same matter without any communication between them. We were sent the wrong forms to be notarized (verified by Wells Fargo Fraud Department). I was promised weekly updates??? Still waiting for these! Bad Company and Bad Employees.

    I was considering setting Allianz up as my company's provider for travel insurance, but I won't be doing that after my recent experience. A car accident is supposed to be covered under Allianz's plan, but none of the proof I'm able to offer is sufficient for them to approve the claim. This means I've lost several hundred dollars on airfare in addition to getting into a car accident. In my experience, my main airline (Delta) is much better about responding to an emergency situation. They once completely refunded an airline ticket because my partner was hospitalized. It's my recommendation to forgo the extra cost Allianz is asking for their travel insurance and work directly with your airline instead.

    If you read the policy they cover very little. I went through all the steps when my 98 year old Aunt needed to be placed in a assisted living due to failure to thrive. I had to arrive earlier than expected due to her worsening health. Allianz denied my claim even after I had her Dr. fill out all forms. I am her health care proxy. This company is not reputable.

    My 82 year old father has been buying the insurance for several years when going to Florida in the Winter. Two years ago my mother died in the Fall, his sister died a month later and then he tried to get some rest in Florida. This time he got sick and had to have a procedure in a hospital and had to cancel plane tickets etc. It has been a YEAR of back and forth with Allianz, it even got so bad we got our local tax accountant to help with the paperwork. They kept saying, "Oh, we never got that paperwork" and he would send the paperwork again and get the same reply.

    Even though he sent them all the records of hospital and plane tickets they are threatening him to close his account saying they have no proof he left the country! THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE. My father was talking to another senior about this and they said they had the same experience and had to call daily to get any response. I guess Allianz just thinks they play a waiting game knowing seniors are unlikely to check out reviews online. DONT BUY ALLIANZ.

    I lost my accommodations where I was supposed to be traveling cause my friend had to leave on a family emergency due to her stepfather having cardiac arrested 2 days before I was supposed to fly there. I called the insurance company and was told that it was only covered for myself or family member. It doesn't seem right that if you buy an insurance policy for trip cancellation and protection that you aren't protected if emergency circumstances happen.     As the director for a non-profit I've been traveling internationally for 35 years. Years ago we used a different travel insurance program. We had a volunteer that was injured on a foreign field, but because we did not "immediately" contact the insurance company they denied the claim. That is when we switched to Allianz. With three or four teams per year we have had maybe a half dozen claims over the past 15 years and Allianz has covered EVERY one. Lost luggage, missed connections, and weather related incidents not covered by the airlines have all been covered. Even a board member's skiing accident in Europe was no problem.

    Most recently I was traveling from Europe to Africa and received word that my wife had been taken to the hospital back home in the USA. I called Allianz and they helped me reroute back home and covered the change fees the airline charged plus the fare from my missed flights!     I purchased travel insurance from Allianz Global Assistance. The policy clearly states, a family member who suffers from a medical condition which requires hospitalization, is cover in the policy if the following conditions are met: "Specific requirement: The injury, illness or medical condition must be considered life threatening, require hospitalization, or he or she must require your care". I am the primary care giver for my brother who suffers with mental illness. Before my trip, my brother suffered a total mental break down, and had to be hospitalized for an entire week. I was informed by hospital staff that if I was not here when he was released from the hospital, my brother would be placed in an institution, or simply put out onto the street, so I had to cancel my trip. I filed a claim with Allianz, but my claim was denied. Even though it seems we met all the criteria for coverage.

    While it appears that some had very good experiences with Allianz, mine was not. I no longer care to do business with them or American Airlines as the insurance was sold through the AA website. I had an unexpected trip come up due to a family member's drug overdose. This occurred out of state. I purchased the insurance because of the precarious situation. I then cancelled the trip the day prior to my departure because of difficulties associated with the drug overdose. I submitted all paperwork required in a very timely manner. I was just told the claim was denied because the issue was mental health related and they don't cover mental health issues.

    Prior to purchasing the insurance I reviewed the coverage and read that "unexpected" medical emergencies were covered... I then concluded I could book my flight and insurance. Had I known, I never would have booked the trip and insurance. I am out $743. My only recourse is to do the work required to file an appeal with the Calif Dept of Insurance. I would not consider Allianz as having policies oriented toward customer satisfaction. At this time, I won't use them or AA for future travel.

    I purchased this insurance to protect my trip, of course like everyone does, and I never thought I would have to use it. I normally always protect my trips and have never had to file a claim. Well, I had to file a claim this time, and my experience has been annoying to say the least. I filed the claim, and it took exactly 10 days for them to start reviewing it. It has been 5 weeks since I filed the claim and I never got an email stating that my claim needed more documentation. With the unfortunate event that I am going through, this was just more added stress. I read all kinds of reviews on this, and everyone seemed so happy with the insurance company, but I got a different taste.

    When I called to speak to an agent about if they needed more documents, she quickly cut me off and just kept repeating that it would take the full 10 days to receive and full 10 days to review. Basically, I have to wait 4 weeks to know if they need more documents or not. I'm sure claim approvals and denials are not subjective, so why would you not be able to take a look to let me know if I need additional information. Why not remove some sort of stress. I'll have to think twice about purchasing insurance through them again. My first experience was definitely not a great impression. I am truly saddened by it.

I really do not need a doctor to tell me that I have one, but I did get a doctors document for them and it still was not good enough.     We have purchased Allianz Insurance in the past. Fortunately we had never had to use the protection. However, recently we had to cancel a weekend hotel visit due to our son's health. Our younger son has a heart condition and is monitored and got either food poisoning or the flu the day before we were to leave for the vacation. I filed the claim through Allianz. They told me I needed to provide a medical records for the 2 day illness. We did not take my son to the doctor and he got better over the weekend. I did tell Allianz that I could provide medical records of his heart problem but I guess that wasn't enough. This seems like a total scam.

    My grandfather got seriously ill while I was on vacation and I had to reschedule my flight to come back to Canada. He passed away while I was on-route back home. Before leaving I talked to an administrator and got the claims application rolling. After my grandfather's funeral, I submitted my claims including all necessary documents in February 2017. They sat on my claim for more than 3 months with no progress. Every week I call the claims department to get an update and every week they manage to come up with a new reason for the delay. Note that when I started the claim they mentioned the whole process will take only 10-15 business days.

    Yesterday I called them one more time and they mentioned my claim was denied due to no coverage. Apparently the credit card which I have the trip interruption insurance through was in bad standing! Which was obviously a lie as I always pay in full. I had to call my credit card company and they reassured my credit card is in good standing. I had to again argue with a claims department person and she finally agreed to send the claims back for review. I suppose I have to wait another 3 months now to get an answer. Absolutely horrible experience from the beginning. Avoid this company at all cost! Not only they denied a legitimate claim but also provided a false reason for the denial.

    I reserved to travel to Chicago from Raleigh, NC and my job changed my teaching schedule because the illness of a coworker. I tried to explain them about this situation and customer service was clear that they do not reimburse this kind of cancellation, but the customer service still encourage me to submit proof from my education institution and airline penalties for changing it. How I look for all this papers, when they are telling me that they do not cover this kind of events?     I had a family wedding in Sacramento, CA. I purchased airline tickets and Allianz travel insurance. Not even a week after purchasing the tickets, My family contacted me stating they had a family emergency and will have to postpone the wedding until September. They were not willing to disclose any information aside from it being a family emergency. I immediately changed my airfare dates, but the airlines charged me a flight change fee. I paid that, and then filed a claim with Allianz to be reimbursed for the flight change. On the website they asked to provide proof of incident and all that extra information. I explained in detail what happened (As much as I knew) and included proof of the extra expense that was paid. Allianz denied my claim and stated they do not cover "trip cancellations".

    I filed an appeal and explained even more thoroughly what happened and that this was a family emergency situation not a trip cancellation. Couple weeks went by and they denied my appeal request. I then contacted Allianz to get refunded for the Policy purchase that I paid for. They did not want to refund that. Not only did I have to pay upwards of $1k for the trip, but I was charged a flight change fee and was not reimbursed by the stupid Travel Insurance company THAT I PAID FOR. Then they did not even want to refund me for that.

    I was diagnosed with Cancer on March 21st and on that day my doctor no longer wanted me to fly, especially not internationally. I had the foresight to buy travel insurance for our flights to London earlier in March. After jumping through a hindered hoops to get Allianz the correct documents I was denied. They said it was a pre-existing condition. How could that be? If I purchased your insurance on March 12th how could it be pre-existing? I didn't know I had cancer!! I didn't know this until March 21st. On top of it all I at least asked to be reimbursed the amount paid for the insurance. The customer service rep was less than helpful and laughed at me. I will no longer use this insurance or fly with anyone that does use you, this has ruined my relationship with American Airlines. You all are heartless. On a side note Delta, Hilton, AIG and Southwest canceled flights I had coming up without a blink of the eye!

    I purchased travel insurance which clearly states “Trip Cancellation - provides reimbursement for non-refundable trip payments and deposits if a trip is canceled for illness, death or other specific unforeseen circumstances." I then had "unforeseen circumstances" which require me to cancel my trip. Allianz then tells me I don't "qualify" for reimbursement as my trip cancellation does not meet their standards.

    So tell me Allianz, what does meet your standards? You take my money to cover trip cancellation then split hairs on what justifies trip cancellation! This is thievery. I am out my ticket price and my insurance money. I only purchased the ticket at a non-refundable price because I was told I could cancel my trip and be covered. Lies! Don't do business with Allianz. It's a waste of money.

    After filing an appeal and writing my complaint on this site, my claim was rightfully approved. I am grateful my appeal was approved, but Allianz must improve this process. I never received an email or notification that my appeal had been approved, but found out by refreshing my claim web page. Most importantly, my claim never should have been rejected up front without some sort of discussion or request for additional documentation, since it was a completely legitimate claim as outlined by my policy. Again, the important thing is, Allianz rightfully approved my claim after appeal, but this process was incredibly stressful and frustrating.

    My wife and I booked a trip to Puerto Rico in February. Unfortunately, I suffered an asthma attack in early April. My asthmatic symptoms grew so exacerbated, that my primary care physician advised me not to travel. I cancelled the trip and submitted all of the required paperwork online, including the documentation from my physician, waited 14 business days for a response (4 business days longer than the maximum amount of time to resolve a claim they commit to, and wouldn't have received word than if I hadn't called to follow-up), and was shocked to see I had been denied for a preexisting condition.

    The problem is, I haven't suffered asthmatic symptoms in 11 years and haven't seen my physician for any asthma related issues in almost 10 years. According to the Allianz policy I paid for, that is not a preexisting condition. I also had not seen my physician for any issues in 123 days prior to the date on my confirmation letter, which is outside the 120 day scope of a preexisting condition. My doctor stated in the physician's statement that he would have approved me to fly when I purchased the insurance in February, but that he now advised me not to travel due to my respiratory illness.

    I also had several changes and additions to my prescriptions since the asthma attack that I have not physically adjusted to and that have not relieved my asthma symptoms. It states in the policy that it is only a preexisting condition if "the prescription hasn't changed," but Allianz is clearly not honoring their own policy, which is fraudulent. My doctor has advised me not to fly with the severe respiratory issues I am suffering from, and I have an insurance company in Allianz that will not honor the policy I paid for. I have now had to start going through an appeal process with no indication of how or when it will be resolved and have began seeking legal counsel to resolve a situation that should have been resolved after filing my original claim. I could never, in good conscience, recommend Allianz to anyone.

    We had confirmed reservations for departure on April 8, 2017, changing in Atlanta, to Tampa, where we were to board a cruise. When we arrived at the airport an hour before our 6:25 a.m. departure, the agent told us we're booked to fly out on April 9 instead. Even though I had an email of our reservations, Delta had changed us to the next day without contacting us and without our permission. On April 7 Delta sent us a reminder email of our April 8 flight. No departures from our airport on April 5 - 7 due to severe storms in Atlanta. Our trip was interrupted, to say the least- we missed our cruise. Allianz just advised that this does not meet eligibility for trip interruption compensation. Why not??? Do not ever take out Allianz Trip Protection insurance.     I was traveling to Arizona on American Airlines to meet with my wife and her stepfather who was under Hospice care. I purchased trip cancellation insurance at the time from Allianz directly on the American Airlines website. I purchased the tickets on a Tuesday not knowing that my wife's stepfather had passed away the Sunday before. That is why I canceled the trip, which should have been covered under the insurance policy.

    I submitted all the required forms, including a copy of the death certificate on 4/10. The claim was in processing up until 4/27, with no communication from Allianz. They denied the claim on 4/27 because "I purchased the tickets 2 days after my wife's stepfather passed away". The tickets and insurance were purchased on a Tuesday, for a flight that Thursday. The trip was canceled as soon as I learned of his death, but Allianz still denied the claim. The Allianz call center and agents are hard to reach. Long hold time, and offshore agents that are hard to understand. Definitely not worth the aggravation. Very poor representation of American Airlines.

    I would not purchase your insurance again. I felt scammed, very disappointed. I booked my airfare separately from my friends so we could all pay individually. We had to cancel our trip due to my son's illness. Even though my claim was approved due to my son's illness, they were denied and lost all of their money. I wish I could give you "0" stars. I feel terrible that our trip was canceled because of my son and on top of it they lost their money even though we thought we did the right thing by purchasing your insurance policy.     I booked a trip to Jamaica for my daughter and myself. A travel insurance was offered via Allianz and I said, why not. I had to cancel my trip because my daughter didn't have a proper travel documentation (her father refused to sign the consent), so I contacted Allianz and I just received a letter saying that the policy was only for certain coverage, therefore they cannot honor the claim. They took over $200.00 and they tell me that they cannot reimburse me. So, why are they even on the market? They said you can insure your travels, but they put a lot of conditions and if you want to have maximum coverage, you have to pay maximum price!!!     I have purchased health insurance for my wife since 6 months ago. My wife has been using a medication from 2 years before.     Our travel plans changed due to a family medical emergency. Initially, American Airlines was going to charge $450 in change fees. I contacted Allianz to file a claim for reimbursement. I received claims forms via email to process. Multiple phone calls later with American, a wonderful supervisor worked with me and rebooked our trip waiving the fees. I contacted Allianz immediately to let them know that I would not be filing a claim and to change the travel dates on our contract.

    Here we are a month later, 4 phone calls later, and the idiots at Allianz still have not removed our "claims" status even though there has been no claim. In fact, the morons sent me an email this week inquiring what's taking so long to file a claim. Is the problem that in 4 phone calls we have yet to speak to anyone who remotely sounded like they were from within the 48 states even though it was an 800 number? Are they just stupid and incompetent? Or are they just hoping that I give up and they pocket the money spent on these policies? I can't figure it out. I'm sick of wasting my time (which is well over an hour now) to make a simple policy adjustment. Do they really think that I should feel comfortable having them be the insurer if something actually did happen abroad? What the hell?

    Hello, when we arrived to our destination in Punta Cana Dominican Republic airport, I found out that Frontier have lost my luggage. They told me to make a claim of lost luggage, which I did, and then they sent me to our resort. I was left without my clothing, medications and travelling essentials. I was forced to purchase clothes, shoes and sunscreen. For the next couple of days I've tried to contact the Frontier Airlines about the whereabouts of my luggage.

    Finally on a third day it arrived to the front desk of our resort at approximately 3pm. The luggage had no items missing, however I was very unhappy and upset. Later on that same evening my mother broke her arm and required major surgery. I filed a claim through Allianz for reimbursement and was turned down and told that because she broke her arm before midnight that night it was a pre-existing condition and Allianz would not reimburse me because the insurance policy did not take effect until midnight. This is a HORRIBLE way to treat clients and this is a HORRIBLE company. Do not ever trust this company for any insurance needs because they will search for any reason to avoid reimbursing customers. I could not give this company a low enough rating.

    I'm serious about this. If you plan to travel to and from Alaska or anywhere around Alaska, do not travel without insurance. I think Allianz is starting to catch on with recent rate hikes, but the insurance has paid off over the past few years.
