    On the day of our scheduled flight, I had to go to the emergency room and we were unable to make our flight. I contacted Allianz and the representative told us how to submit a claim online.     My wife and had a vacation planned to Peru for Sept 8th of 2017. Our flight was to go from Orlando to Miami and then to Peru. On Sept 3rd, we purchased insurance just in case one or both flights would be canceled. The company states you can get insurance up to 24 hrs before the day of flight. So we did due to the talks of hurricanes in the Caribbean at the time. The site never mentioned what they cover or do not cover. It led us to believe the 200 dollars we send for insurance would protect us from losing thousands in canceled flights. Of course on the 7th of Sept the flight was officially cancelled out of Miami. My wife calls to start a claim over the phone. 40 days later an email states they will not help at all. We call to get explanation and was received by rudeness and mocking. Stating that we knew there was a hurricane coming to Florida therefore we would not be covered.

    We are not meteorologists, we did what we felt was a protective measure. The website did not give any specifics. But manager there states that a two sentence verbiage on page 16 of a 24 page disclaimer sent via email says cancellation due to bad weather would not be covered. Not one but two occasions this company did not explain what is covered on 1. The website before purchase. 2. By the original rep that my wife spoke to create the claim in the first place. But 40 days later a manager mockingly states that we knew a hurricane was coming. We are very hurt that not only did we lose money on a trip, but got tricked by an institution who is supposed to inform and protect you from cancelled trips. It's a gut punch with the added measure of gloating from the reps on the other end of the phone.

    When I originally called Allianz, the customer service representative mistakenly told me that I would hear from an adjuster within 10 days about my claim. When I went to the website, it said that an adjuster would review my claim within 10 days & email me if further information was needed. After about 12 business days, because of a large number of claims due to recent events, my claim was paid in full. I would recommend requesting direct deposit to a bank account, which is an option on the claim. When the claim was resolved, the money was immediately deposited into my bank account. I would recommend Allianz, but I would suggest reading the policy carefully about what is covered (I had cancel anytime travel insurance). The best source of information after a claim is filed is the website. Information from customer service tends to vary.

    I took out a travel insurance policy that enabled me to cancel my trip for any reason. I had to cancel my trip to the SF area, because of wildfires in wine country where I wanted to visit. This is covered in the policy under destination is uninhabitable. The AAA agent with whom I took out the policy told me that Allianz would pay quickly because that is what their sales rep told them in a group presentation.

    They would not waste money on adjusters. I read several posts where people had to cancel their trips due to hurricane Irma. One in particular said that they received their insurance payment in a few days. Therefore, I was surprised to learn that it would take 10 days to review my claim, and that an adjuster would call me about the claim within those 10 days. I have to wonder why as the reasons for canceling the trip are very clear & covered. Just listen to the news. So why so long? So what has to be adjusted? I will update this posting if 1) it is posted since Allianz pays money toward ConsumerAffairs, and 2) what the outcome is.

    Updated on 11/04/17: This the follow-up to a review I posted on 10/20/2017. At that time, the customer service representative told me that an adjuster would be calling me in 10 days to review my claim. However, after submitting the claim, I found on the claim website that an adjuster would be reviewing my claim & would contact me if further information was needed. I have found that the information from customer representatives in general is variable. And generally, if it appears that the representative does not know what they are doing (that takes about 3-5 minutes to figure out), I call back to get one that does. The claim form was easy to fill out & I made sure to include copies of newspaper articles about the fire to support my claim.

    The AGA agent uploaded the claim for me, but was not able to indicate form of payment for reimbursement. This is important in terms of how long it will take to get your money. So I completed the form & sent it in via Priority Mail. I chose the option to have the claim money be directly deposited into my banking account. This saves time as a check will take longer to process. About 12 business days after the completed form was submitted I was notified by email that the claim was approved & I would receive a full refund.

    Apparently, because of all of the recent natural disasters, Allianz has been overwhelmed with claims & it may take longer for a claim to process. I would say that the key to getting prompt payment is to have direct deposit. I would recommend Allianz. I chose the cancel anytime policy, which costs more. But a regular policy might have covered my case as well. It is also important to read the policy carefully in terms of what is covered & what is not. And there are significant differences between the regular travel & cancel anytime policies.

    Hurricane Irma damaged our Interval International timeshare resort exchange to St Thomas so we couldn't stay there and there were no other places to exchange. The resort closed during our expected stay. So we had to cancel. The airline gave us credit for our flight, but it didn't give us credit for the exchange cost nor the points for the exchange. We filed a claim and it took 17 pages to show the proof we had and it was thorough enough not to require more input. The bank didn't charge for the fax because of the hurricane.

    I found the call line inaccessible. I found the website confusing. I found difficulty in accessing the forms, initially, then easy to print once found. I never spoke with a person. I found the medical forms too restrictive, for example, it seemed to imply in the wording that it must be a serious, urgent condition for a doctor to do or recommend something to me the patient and traveler to miss my flight. It turns out that I could have gone on my flight and it was not expensive and taken the procedure afterwards but I didn't know that and there was a risk that was unclear, so I acted with precaution, but very filled with apprehension while filing.

    There was no one available to chat or talk with me during this time and I resent that. This is a large corporation and can afford chat. I found I hand delivering to my physician, for fear of being ignored at a large university medical setting. Once my physician responded to the insurance, I received quick notices and I have not checked to see the outcome, but at this point I trust that my account was credited. I will check and write again if not.

    I was happy I bought the insurance but was not kept informed about payment processing. I went to check the 'check claim' site and found it at first but after you supposedly processed it, it came up as no information available. What is that about? Did you flush the claim? I called to be told by a human, “Yes it's been processed”. It will be paid by check! I asked when the check went out and conveniently it was the same day or the day before. That was two weeks ago, I still haven't received the check. I thought it would be charged/debited back to the charge card. I have not checked it yet but it's not there either, I suspect. Do we have to meet in small claims court? Why not, you must pay your attorneys well. Might as well use them right? You call me with a status update report now!

    I paid for "100% Cancel Anytime" Trip Insurance when I booked through Cheap Caribbean. Hurricane Irma hit and I cancelled the trip. Before I cancelled I called Allianz several times to get details on what would happen and I was NEVER told I would only get the airfare back, not the hotel. After a week called, no sign of it. Waited another week, then until 9/29. CSR advised they would put a stop on it, initiate a direct bank transfer. That was credited 10/16. Two days prior, 10/14, the check arrived, postmarked 9/13, envelope in perfect condition with the correct first class postage. Perhaps a record for the USPS, a month to go perhaps 250 miles? The check was shredded, per instructions from the CSR. Throughout my series of calls the CSR's were consistently helpful, courteous, & well trained. Not sure if the medical community will clear me for future trips, but if they do & the fishing in the NW holds up, I plan to contact Allianz about trip coverage.

    I had to recently cancel a trip to San Juan, prior to the Hurricane, I purchased trip cancellation through American Airlines Website which directed me to Allianz Global. Max is $3,000 per person, My trip for 2 people cost $2538.00, said it exceeded the amount. Also hidden in another section not with Trip Cancellation is a line which states if you are laid off, you must have been employed for 3 years. This is NOT part of the Trip section, it is in the general section close to medical etc.

    So if you are buying insurance and have not worked for a firm for at least 3 years. YOU will get nothing, I am not sure if this applies to a Medical claim, perhaps it does, or they make it apply when it suits them. Plus you will receive a vague computer letter, which even the claims department could not understand. Last Words this large firm could not care less about me, and the fact they can make any part apply if they want, and you will be treated in an unprofessional manner. You may think you are ok with trip cancellation, better check if you have not worked long enough you will NOT be covered. They will get their fee, and when you need help. You will get nothing, except treated badly. I do not know if they have several sections, this was the Canadian Office in Waterloo, Ontario.

    Buyer Beware, and given the way I was treated and the correspondence received, Very Unprofessional Company. I would suggest American use a better company, I do not blame American, they should be aware this does reflect on their choice of companies they partner with. In closing See and Review everything, do not be excited about a trip and the false statements, review first, you can do better Than Allianz Global Travel Insurance.

    My mother lives abroad and we bought the insurance to have her covered while in USA. We did use for a medical consultation and reimbursement came timely. However the check came in her name and since she do not live or has an account in USA, it could not be cashed. Tried to explain, gave my same address but unless she get something notarized in USA where is not possible, it could not be resolved. Tried to call the office abroad who said the USA branch should resolved, and in USA they point me abroad, loss of time and a useless check in my hand.

    The policy was exactly what we needed, especially because we had to cancel a trip with non-refundable airline tickets. Even in the midst of hurricanes Harvey and Irma, our claim was processed extremely fast. My only problem was that the instructions as to what documents I needed to submit showed a huge number of documents, and I was not sure which ones applied to me. In other words, the list was not customized to me and I was confused.

    This was the first time I used travel insurance; I fully expected not to have to use it, figuring it was just for my peace of mind since traveling has become a bit of a challenge on occasion for my family and friends. Well, I did need to use my insurance. My trip out to San Antonio was crazy. I ended up in Houston; driving to San Antonio, arriving there 18 hours after my original arrival time. Once, I determined that my travel insurance would cover the rental car I needed to complete my trip to San Antonio, I filed the paperwork and received my reimbursement in a timely fashion. It was great and I will be using Allianz again.

    We bought travel insurance through Allianz Global for our trip to Ireland in August. Our connecting flight was cancelled in Houston due to Harvey and we had to stay at a hotel for 5 days.     My 8 years old son went to Brasil to spend summer with my mother. Purchasing a policy with Allianz was the best decision I made. It turns out that he had trouble breathing while away and had to be seen by a doctor. I contacted Allianz from the US and was given details, of what to do to have Thomas seen by a Doctor and how to file a claim afterwards. My son was very well taken care of. I even received a call from Allianz to check on his well being days later! Once they came back home, with all the receipts and medical report, I applied for a refund and in less than 10 days a check was in my mailbox. International health insurance coverage is that thing you pay hoping never to use. Not only because nobody wants to get sick on vacation but also because of the hassle the after service involves.
