    On our recent trip to Hawaii, we received notice that my husband's mother had suddenly fallen ill. The next day, we were contacted again and told that things had gone from bad to worse and that she was not expected to last more than 48 hours. We made the necessary arrangements and arrived home about midnight and were able to check in on her. We spent the next 2 days with her before she passed away.     I visited the Bahamas with my family. However, due to the Winter storm “Grayson”, I could not return to JFK and I had to extend our stay for 5 days. In the case of flight cancellation caused by the weather, airline companies cover only a flight change, and accommodation expenses and meal fee will be borne by ourselves. I happened to assume an injury abroad and had travel insurance, so I was able to cover almost all my five-day stay. Especially in the winter, travel insurance is essential as there are many flight cancellations caused by the weather. Allianz 's claim was very easy and payment processing was so quick. Also, it was good to be able to check the status of the process online.

    I bought the travel insurance when I purchased airline tickets for my brother and his wife, but hoped it wouldn't be needed. Glad I did - brother's wife had an accident requiring hospitalization followed by bedrest at home. Allianz came through with the refund exactly as advertised. RECOMMENDATION: When the person who purchases the tickets is not the traveler, please allow the actual purchaser to file the claim for the refund. I purchased the tickets for my brother and his wife using my credit card, but the refund went to my brother. He sent me a check.

    Everything wrong a company could do they did!!! They promised after my injury they would pay for my medical bills and my surgery, they never did. They promised it was covered, then they changed their mind and said, "Yes it’s covered, we will pay for you to get back to the country, but no medical"??!!! That doesn’t help!!! This company should legally not be allowed to exist!!! Trust me as someone who has been down this road, don’t buy Allianz because it is a nightmare and not worth the money!!!

    Did not receive copy of policy and then when called about a possible claim was treated like an idiot. Had the same thing repeated to me over and over. I will never purchase insurance on tickets again. Seems like impossible to get a refund. I was told even with the proper paperwork, claims "may" be eligible for a refund after reviewed by the claims department. I get it. A.G.A. does not want ripped off, but after my experience, I feel it nearly impossible to get a refund unless hospitalization or death occurs. Therefore, in my opinion, save the money and hope for the best.

    I had to file a claim for a trip I intended to take to Dubai. The process was horrible. They wear you out with their "10 business days." Initially I submitted everything - claim forms, receipt, medical support etc. Everything. Only to wait 10 business days to find out that they were still waiting on the information, even though I sent it with the original email!!! Talk about - Silly!!! Then I resubmit the information - wait 10 business days for them to tell me that they couldn't view the information and I need to resubmit AND they want me to send my bank statement to prove that I paid for the ticket! Ugh!! But that's all shown on the receipt!!! Needless to say - I won't be using this insurance company again!!! It has been a month already and I still have to wait "10 business days." SMH. LOL.     I had to cancel a trip because my wife got sick. Filing a claim was a hassle. I copied my policy number directly from an email that had a link to file a claim. I used that link and posted my policy number. I get a message "Policy not found" or something like that. I use their tools to search and finally I am able to bring up my policy and file a claim. I bought my ticket with miles and a small amount of cash. You have to state what you are asking for, but you pull it from a drop-down menu. Re-instatement of miles isn't one of the options. They are all related to money. So I choose the appropriate one to get my five dollars and sixty cents back and leave a comment that I am looking to have my points reinstated.

    Some time later I get an email with the subject "Your Allianz Global Assistance Claim Number: (My claim number). In the body of the email is their logo and "Thanks for choosing Allianz Global Assistance. Here's your important claim information." Then nothing. I assumed it was their way of telling me that I was getting NOTHING back, but several days later $5.60 showed up in my checking account. Nothing in my frequent flyer miles. It cost me about $18.00 to get $5.60 back. What makes it worse is the lack of information about their decision. I won't do this again.

    I have enjoyed 2 policies with Allianz Travel insurance but have only had to submit one claim. Unfortunately my wife and I both encountered some difficulties on a recent cruise when she caught the flu and had to be quarantined in our cabin for two days and I strained my knee. Her flu resulted in us both being prescribed medication. Later on the same trip I strained my knee which resulted in a second trip to the medical office and a knee brace.     I called in to report my flight delay that would cause me to leave Palm Springs the next day, and see if I would be covered for a hotel room. The person on the phone told me this would qualify as a "trip interruption" and I would be eligible for up to $460 in reimbursement for a hotel, per my policy. There were very few rooms in Palm Springs but I could get one at the hotel I had been staying in for a conference, that was very close to the airport, for $465. That was way more than I wanted to spend but I thought I would just do that since it was convenient and I thought I would be getting almost all of it back anyway.

    Then when I got home and filled out the claim paperwork, I was told this was a "delay" and not an interruption, so I only received $200 of the $465 back. If I had been told from the beginning my limit was $200 for a delay, rather than $460 for an interruption, I would have sought out a hotel further away from the airport that was maybe less convenient, but still in the price range for what I would be reimbursed for a delay. I wish the Allianz agent had given me the correct information to start with. He was very nice but still, I am out $265 and not very happy about that.

    I was very pleased with our experience with our Global Allianz travel policy. I was advised by a friend that we should purchase a policy whenever traveling in the winter and it was certainly fortuitous for us that we did with winter storm Riley. We were stuck in Minneapolis, Mn. as a result of the storm and knowing we had the insurance helped ease the stress of being stranded for two days.     We were pleased with the expediency with which the claim was processed. However, Allianz accepts collect calls, but because the collect calls could not be made from the country we were in, the calls were charged to the hotel bill and Allianz did not reimburse. While we understand that the policy does state up to $100.00 per day for the travel companion, there is nowhere you can get a hotel room for $100.00, let alone including transportation from hotel to hospital that costs $20.00 per trip.

    I spoke with a person that sounded may have been from the Philippines (doesn't really matter where) but I was calling from overseas with bad phone connection and then on top of that the person had a thick accent. She stated, "Why can't you understand me," and I said, "Because you have a thick accent making it hard for me;" and she proceeded to say "Well you have an accent too". I was stunned that someone would say such a rude thing and offended and hurt. I struggle because I am hearing impaired and I have a speech impediment but she didn't care; while I do the best I can she was rude and I kept asking her to slow down in talking and she would not. I have never experience such rudeness from someone I informed I could not hear well.

    I've dealt with reps calling from India are way nicer than her! The situation was already stressful missing flight due to family emergency and then having to deal with a rude insensitive customer service rep was awful. I was frustrated that she did not have any compassion to help me with the situation other than just repeating her self very fast and ignoring my questions stating "It'll just be in the email". At that point, I just prayed the email would suffice and I never had to speak to her again. I hope someone counsels her because in a world of diverse people you never know you are dealing with and when having to use the travel ins.... you can probably assume that things are already stressful. Don't make it worse.

    I won't recommend this company if have to continue to speak with her. I asked for a manager or supervisor once and she didn't oblige just stating smirkly, "I am telling you the instructions" basically as if someone was saying what is your problem -- just listen. I appreciate the company reviewing my case and the online process was easy. The paperwork was vague at times but the overall process was manageable.

    The refund check came very quickly. I thought it required a little too much effort to get the refund from a cancelled Delta flight due to the fact your companies are closely associated. It should be a streamlined process, wherein when Delta cancels a flight (in this case because of the weather) there should be a claim number that is recognized on your site so a refund could come quickly. This would be especially helpful after the recent stream of storms/cancellations that tied up both Deltas and your numbers for days.     These people are horrible. My 82 yr old mother is not able to fly due to health reasons and these people will not refund the price of her ticket. I sent the note that her Dr. gave me and that is not enough for them. Now they want me to get a note or letter stating the symptoms she is having.     The only thing I would recommend is delete physicians statement. I believe this is a 3 page statement which many physicians would charge the patient to fill out. My physician had already written a letter and that wasn't sufficient. Your form asks too much personal information. In my case I went for a mammogram and a suspicious lesion was found. I had biopsy & ultimately surgery in less than a month. I'm still convalescing. That is very private info and my physician and myself felt this information wasn't necessary to process my claim.

    I am glad that I purchased the insurance for our tickets, We were not able to go on our trip, so had to use the insurance. The paperwork was about 5 pages, but that is OK, was able to get all resolved with no problems. It is go to see that some processes are still easy to resolve issues.     I have been traveling back and forth monthly to Dallas from Rochester NY to visit with my husband who just took a new job there. During the last trip that I took a Nor'easter canceled the first leg of my trip and thus missed a connection. Due to the weather and all the cancellations, the airline I booked with was only able to get me on a flight 2 days later. However, because I had trip insurance, I was able to book a one way down to Dallas on a different airline that had open seats that same day. I arrived in Dallas only a few hours later than I had originally planned. We were able to enjoy our weekend together and trip was saved. Working with Allianz was easy from the very moment of purchasing trip insurance to the moment of getting reimbursed for the one way trip ticket that I had to buy in order to get to my destination on time.     I don’t normally buy trip insurance, but this time I did and Thank God I did. I had to have emergency surgery and with Allianz they made the process of getting refunded painless, when at the moment, I didn't need any additional pain! I will never, not buy trip insurance again with Allianz.
