    Booked a trip to Boston for medical reasons at DFCI. Hospital cancelled my appointments due to medical issue. Called to cancel hotel reservation, they gave me the runaround 3 times. Filed a claim online with Allianz. They do not want to pay the claim. State they need medical records with my medical condition. WHAT??? Who ask for medical records, like a cancer patient is going to give out medical records. On the phone and e-mail for two days. States clearly on the site I used to book the room it clearly covers this claim. This company will go out of its way to humiliate you so they do not have to honor a claim. I give this rude insensitive representative negative stars.

We typically can't process a claim without documentation. Submitting documentation is a key spot that can trip some folks up after initially submitting their claim. Sometimes specific documentation is requested, for example, a note from a physician. As we wish one's word would be enough for reimbursement, supporting documentation is required to confirm that a cancellation was made for a covered reason and for reimbursement.     On May 31 I purchased two tickets for my wife and I going from Louisville to New York City. To be extra careful in case my plans changed I clicked the box to buy travel insurance. I was NOT given a policy to read before I checked the box. No way I could have read any print much less the fine print. Five days later it was necessary to change my dates and reschedule. American employees insisted I had to pay 238 dollars per ticket for the change but assured me I would get it back since I had their insurance. They even gave me the number to call.

    When I called a rude guy with Allianz said, "Read the fine print in your policy. We don't have to pay for a change in dates." I wonder how much Allianz pays in kickbacks to AA and why AA would allow their website to be used for such fraudulent activity particularly against senior citizens. I am writing my insurance commissioner, Congressman, the FAA, Federal Trade Commission. This racket has to be stopped.

    They falsely represent themselves as easy readable website. Reading the policy I followed the rules and was told by one of the representatives to cancel my trip. They denied everything. Never got any type a callback from any supervisor or examiner. And every time I pointed out what was on their policy they kept insisting how I was reading it wrong. Save your money.

    If you thinking to buy an insurance for your Delta flight, don't be fooled and don't waste your money. It is simply worthless. When you book a ticket with Delta, on the bottom of the page they offer insurance option and below it says "100% coverage guaranteed", but keep in mind that you have to make about five (5) clicks until you get to the page where they describe what situations are actually covered. To make it short, besides national disasters, 24 hrs flight delay, and death of your relative - nothing else covered.

    Also, keep in mind, ALL TICKET CHANGES REQUESTS SHOULD BE DONE BEFORE FLIGHT, so once you started traveling - forget to get any refund or coverage. In my situation, I bought insurance because I knew that my work will require me change or cancel returning flight. And guess what, I canceled my flight assuming I'll get my money back, because I'm insured, but no. My fault that I didn't have time to read through all conditions and I simply didn't have time, flight was unexpected.

    My advice would be to forgo Allianz altogether and deal with the financial hardship of not having insurance at all, because the pain and suffering of dealing with their customer service team is exponentially worse. I called 6 times and every time was told "notes have been made", only to call back and they had no record of my process. On two separate occasions I was was told I would have an answer within 48 hours, and that they would check in each day until I had an answer- and I am currently on hold with them because they did neither of those things, and have no idea who I should speak with, even after providing them employee numbers of whom I'd spoken to in the past. I don't know how a company can be this bad while still structurally standing.

    Hip fracture in Mexico first week of February 2019. Would not be admitted to hospital unless able to provide proof of medical coverage and major credit card. Hospital called Allianz and received case number. This process also required me speaking directly with an agent while in the emergency room receiving treatment with doctor and nurses cleaning wounds and doing assessment - they would not accept information from my wife.... Several diagnostic procedures also required getting further approvals requiring several more phone calls over a period of several hours.

    When trying to leave the hospital I was informed that Allianz had not sent any type of payment or proof of payment and that the only way for me to leave would be to pay all charges. In an effort to reclaim the large expense before my credit card was due while still in Mexico recovering - I was told that scanned forms & bills were not acceptable (even after telling them I could send originals once back in my home country). Mexican postal system is not reliable did not want to risk losing the originals.

    Finally beginning of May and still not hearing anything back from them I call only to find out they are not proceeding with this till all forms have been submitted.... So I ask the gal to check which forms are missing so I can resubmit (20 minutes later on the phone). She comes back on and informs me they have all the forms and it is a computer error that said the forms were missing and that she would send a note to another department to rectify this immediately.

    Couple of weeks later receive mail (FINAL NOTICE) informing that my case will be closed if proper forms are not received within 30 days! - Call again this time only 30 minute call system says forms are missing. Case on HOLD - she goes speak to supervisor and comes back apologizing and does not understand how this could happen as all forms have been correctly submitted since the first time I sent them in... When asked about the previous conversation I had a couple of weeks earlier she informed me that the previous person did make a note that all forms are there but did not submit a form to the document department to remove HOLD on my claim.

    She then informed me that she would submit this form and that I should call back again to ensure that the claim is being processed... When I suggested that maybe they should call me and follow up, I was told they have no way of doing this and that I should call them... SERIOUSLY. I am out of pocket $3,500.00 dollars, have to wait more than 4 months, I have to call them and follow up to ensure they are doing their job and they call themselves a service??? LOL. I have to laugh because what they call service is really a joke!

    When I went to file a claim online, I was provided a drop down list of options for why I needed a refund. However, not all of the reasons listed were covered under my policy. I did not discover this until my claim was denied. I called to ask why I was provided with a blanket list of refund reasons, as this is clearly misleading. All I received was an apology and a list of instructions on how to file a claim appeal. Very disappointed in this process--feels as though this company walked away with my insurance fee and provided no actual coverage on my policy.

    My claim has been under medical review since April 9, 2019, at which point I was notified they had everything they needed. I called today for an update, and was told on May 7 they made another request for medical records from a doctor I saw in Hong Kong at my hotel for literally 10 mins, who apparently isn’t cooperating, but probably because he doesn’t have a record of more than my name and passport number. He tapped my back and took my temperature and gave me an injection, pain killers and antibiotics and notified me I had a kidney infection.

    I flew back that same day and saw my regular doctor in Vancouver right away, who treated me for it. My regular doctor provided everything the insurance agency required and stated I was not fit to continue on my Asia trip, yet this is not enough for them and they keep delaying claim. Ridiculous. I am very frustrated, and do not understand what they are doing. The agent that I talked to today was also confused on why it was taking so long and put in a ‘rush inquiry’ on the claim on what was going on, and told me to call back next week. This has been such a frustrating experience.

    I had chest pains in Canada, and visited a hospital for a day to get it checked out. Entry to the emergency dept, a CT-PE scan, physician fees and antibiotics came to a bill of $1990, of which Allianz paid only $1350, but told me that they had settled with the hospital. I had filled in copious forms to make the claim, including one signed by the GP as they were checking up that I had declared all previous medical conditions, which I had. Allianz have no reason to withhold $641, and take over 10 days to reply to emails on the matter. This is a big underwriter, but it is worth finding an alternative when taking out travel insurance.

    I submitted a claim which was immediately denied & all it stated was it was not a perils reason. No explanation. Trying to talk to someone was impossible; when calling I was told all I could do was email an appeal. No one on the phone could explain the reason. I was given two conflicting email addresses on two different calls. I finally figured out that the reason the claim was denied was because the address on file was incorrect for traveler # 2. I was not asked for traveler # 2's address when I purchased the policy. I was also never asked for additional supporting documentation after I submitted the appeal.

    When I figured out the issue I emailed a 4th time (after no response to my previous 2 emails) and attached several different types of supporting documentation. The frustration of this whole process could have been alleviated had the original denial explained exactly why the claim was being denied. I would have then known what needed to be provided to ratify the situation. My claim was finally paid but only because of my due diligence in figuring out what the issue was. The lack of communication during the appeal process is so frustrating that I feel a lot of clients will just give up on trying to have their claims resolved.

    I rarely purchase travel insurance but with this most recent trip I did as I have been sick and was unsure about my trip. Well the trip was a nightmare, weather delays, having to stay overnight in another city, not getting any of my luggage, skis, etc until the afternoon before I left.     I purchased 2 concert tickets for $290. The insurance cost paled in comparison to the cost of the event. To have a peace of mind, I figured why not and purchased the insurance. Turns out the hoops and fire you have to jump through to receive a successful claim is ridiculous. They even list your OWN DEATH as a substantial reason for your claim. Seriously? They make millions of dollars off of offering meager charges to "cover your trip" and find every reason to not pay out a dime. BUYER BEWARE!

    BUYERS BEWARE!! When we ordered the Premier Plan, we read that it covered medical treatment and trip cancellation which is what we had concerns with moderate/severe allergies and asthma. When we had to cancel the trip at the recommendation of our doctor for other health reasons we felt reassured that we could recover the cost of the trip to use toward a future trip due to what we thought was amazing travel insurance.

    Our policy states: "1. You or a traveling companion becomes ill or injured, or develops a medical condition. The following conditions apply: a. The illness, injury, or medical condition must be disabling enough to make a reasonable person cancel their trip; and b. A doctor advises you or a traveling companion to cancel your trip before you cancel it. If that isn’t possible, a doctor must either examine or consult with you or the traveling companion within 72 hours after the cancellation to confirm the decision to cancel."

    After submitting our claim and it was denied, we find out that there was an exclusion for anyone cancelling by the effects of a mental or nerve illness. Beyond frustrating! Of course this is listed at the very back of the policy. If someone's life is in danger and your doctor does not deem the trip safe, why does it matter if it is physical, nerve or mental related? We are reasonable people and would not a trip to a tropical paradise for anything but an extreme matter. Not only, is their policy very misleading, but it this exclusion also sounds very discriminatory.

    I purchased tickets for my mom to go to Hawaii with me for everything that she has done. She recently started a new job and told them about the trip to Hawaii that she had planned, and they denied her time off. So I contacted Allianz Global who I bought the insurance through, and explain to them the situation. Upon that situation, we made a claim and they alerted me and said work is not an excuse to have a refund and refused to work with me. I will never go through this company again and would never buy any insurance through them.

    As a result of this experience, I have recommended this to many of my friends who travel abroad. I am very satisfied with the results, although there were times in the process of getting help that were cumbersome. The people I spoke to were always courteous and gave me help and next steps. The only exception to that was one woman who sounded like she was in India, who basically told my wife that she couldn't help. However, all of the other interactions were very courteous. I did find that I had to keep calling back to get answers, and for some reason your staff was reluctant to call me, but would instead send me emails. That may be a policy of your company, but I think personal calling is helpful to calm people in a critical situation while they are out of their home country. There were hiccups, but in the end my claims were paid and I appreciate the people and the service from your company.

    I booked flights from Calgary to New Orleans return, through Expedia and purchased "trip cancellation/delay" at time of booking. Cost paid for the policy was $141.40 and seemed reasonable with good coverage, until we had an issue. We arrived at the NOLA airport at noon waiting for flight time. Gates were changed, flight delayed time delayed continuously due to a storm in Houston for our connecting flight. We finally boarded the plane about 8:30 p.m. but that plane could not leave as the flight crew was out of hours and was cancelled. Another plane arrived from Houston and we finally managed to board that plane about 11:00 and got to Houston after midnight. We missed our connecting flight but managed to get a flight out of Houston at 9 a.m. I managed to book a hotel room for a few hours. We arrived in Calgary a day late and paid for a room we didn't use because of the delay.

    Having trip insurance through Allianz Global Assistance should have given us coverage for out of pocket expenses. I got in touch with Allianz, made a claim with accompanying receipts that I could find after the hassle of extra paperwork and stress with the flight. I also wrote a cover letter explain the charges and missing receipts, emailed all documents and heard nothing. I phoned the claim department today and most expenses were not covered. Because I pre-booked a room in Calgary, they would not pay that because it was PRE-BOOKED, even though we couldn't get there in time! Trip Insurance cost $140.40. Out of pocket trip expenses $411.28. My cost $551.68. ALLIANZ is reimbursing me for $140.12!!!! That is fair? Not customer, service for sure. Beware of what Allianz will pay, or should that be WON'T PAY.

    Do not buy... I will never buy concert insurance again. I have literally wasted money and given it to them. Complete rip off. They expect you to jump thru hoops when you become sick. If I felt like filling in all of the paperwork for a refund and getting a Dr note from where I went to the Dr like I am in elementary school... I would go to the concert!! I easily could give and prove all of my claim but I would rather spend my time telling and warning people to not purchase this policy ever!!!

    3/19/2019 - Spoke to Fabian at 4:52 pm Hawaii time to start a trip cancellation claim. I was told to submit proof of payment, itinerary, proof of cancellation, and physician statement. I was then given the claim# **. I submitted the documents and waited 10 days before I reached out Allianz. 3/28/2019 - Spoke to George at 10am Hawaii time to check on status of claim. He told me that there was no claim in the system because my claim of the change fee had already been paid and therefore I couldn't file another claim. He then transferred me to Ben. Ben told me that in 24-48hrs I should hear back from Allianz. 4/1/2019 - Spoke to Fernando at 8am Hawaii time. He told me they needed more time.

    4/3/2019 - Spoke to Theresa at 8:19am Hawaii time. She transferred me to Erica who told me she completely understood and that there should be no problem filing my claim. She told me to wait 48-72 hrs. 4/9/2019 - Spoke to Laura at 8:48am Hawaii time. Explained everything again for the 7th time. 4/12/2019 - Spoke to James at 7:12 am Hawaii time. Then spoke to Zuri, Julia, and Tom. Each time I spoke to someone I had to retell my story. I have submitted all documentation asked and on some occasions multiple times. Each time I was told either 10 business days or 48 to 72 hrs. Most recently Allianz received 9 pieces of documentation on April 16. I waited 10 business days only to be told first by Julia that the doctors notes to match the right days, which was inaccurate. Then Tom told me the only thing he can do for me is set up a callback. I am beyond frustrated. Hopefully, this can get resolved ASAP!

    I'm extremely unsatisfied with my experience with Allianz Global Assistance USA. I purchased the insurance coverage for my flights to/from California during the summer of 2019. Unfortunately, my trip had to be canceled due to financial reasons, and Allianz would not refund my tickets. I provided proof of cancelation and all other required documents, but I was told that the reasoning behind the flight cancelation was not good enough. They would not refund me. The whole point of purchasing flight insurance coverage is to protect you in case something happens and the flight is canceled. But Allianz will only cover certain incidents, and I feel like that is not transparent enough. I didn't know they wouldn't cover my "incident" reason, which happened to be a fairly common reason people cancel flights. I've found better coverage options from a credit card company (when flights are purchased via the credit card). I do not recommend this service.

    The representative I first spoke with to file my claim was very competent and understanding. I gathered all needed documents and sent them in and was approved for refund in just a few days. I requested funds to be sent to my checking account but after a couple of weeks when I did not receive, I called again and found out that my checking account information had been entered incorrectly. The representative I spoke with at that time told me she would send a request to finance to void and reissue to my correct account within 3 to 5 business days. When I had not received by 5 business days I called back. The representative spoke to the claims dept and said original was voided two days prior and I would have refund in my account within 3 to5 business days, I did receive within that timeframe.

    My fight was canceled by the airlines. We had to go on a flight the next day. The airline posted a It and notified me that it was CANCELLED NOT DELAYED! According to your definition, you somehow interpret on your own that it is not a flight cancellation and you label it a delay. Why would the airlines call it a CANCELLED FLIGHT. What gives you the right to change the wording, so you pay out less money. The payout is exactly half FOR a DELAY VERSUS CANCELLED. HOW DO YOU GET AWAY WITH THIS?

    Finally got things resolved though it took a lot more paperwork that I would have expected. The hospital didn't get their full payment, but the EOB said they didn't deserve it. The doctors didn't think I was ready to leave the hospital for 5 days, but the EOB didn't pay for 5 days. Can't really blame Allianz for that, but I would have thought they would have paid the difference between what the hospital billed and what the primary paid.

    Due to an illness of my aunt, the trip was shortened and my wife returned with my aunt, who owned the condo in which they were staying. The Mexican doctors mis-diagnosed the health problem, which was diagnosed as a back problem, rather than a hip problem. The back has been operated on and I have attached documents to that effect.     Travel to Haiti. My request for reimbursement for the cost of the airline tickets from BWI to MIA and from MIA to PAP was initially declined, "we don't cover civil unrest."     I have purchased approximately eight travel policies to cover a variety of tickets or travel costs that I have planned for the summer. However, I decided that one trip was not going to work out and that there was going to be a scheduling conflict. When prompted to take out the insurance policy for 100% refund at checkout at the ticket platform(s) I was using, I believed that I would in fact get a full refund should I need to cancel the trip or something came up. Unfortunately, despite being an "invested" customer with other active policies, they denied my claim, which caused a financial strain as I am a college student who has limited funding and has tried saving for and paying off these expenses. I do not plan to purchase another policy from Allianz again.

    I purchased insurance for a trip to Jamaica for my husband and I and our trip was delayed by 24 hours due to severe weather in New York where we had a connection. I filed a claim for travel delay, and they denied my coverage saying they do not cover pre-paid expenses. NOWHERE in the policy does it say that they specifically do not cover pre-paid expenses when it comes to accommodations, only that they do cover accommodation costs due to a delay.

    Every person I have talked to at Allianz has been very rude and not helpful at all. I have done everything they asked, and have been more than patient, and even had a lawyer look over the policy. My lawyer states that with the wording in my policy, my claim should in fact be covered, and legally they cannot just decide how it should be interpreted without being specific in the claim. I have filed an appeal but honestly, if as consumers, we purchase travel insurance, we should be entitled to the coverage that we purchased. I am very frustrated and just feel cheated. Not only are we out the money we spent on accommodations, but also the money for the insurance.

    Be aware of every single detail in what is NOT covered in their policies! My minor child was admitted to a psychiatric inpatient facility, under a doctor's care, for life threatening mental health reasons. I provided all documentation, yet my claim was denied with the explanation, "You aren't covered for any loss that results directly or indirectly from any mental or nervous health disorders (like anxiety, depression, neurosis, psychosis and others), or any related physical complications if they affect you, a traveling companion or a family member, whether the family member is traveling with you or not."     I purchased a set of tickets for me and my wife (at the time for a concert. It had a small unassuming option of “ticket insurance”. I clicked it and it added to the cost of the bill. There was no long disclosure about how detailed the insurance was, it simply said “not sure if you can attend the event, get insurance!”. At no point was it made clear how few of things were actually covered or I 100% certainly would not have wasted my money. But I did and I took it for face value that they would be fair about it. Well fast forward, me and the wife get a divorce and now I’m thinking “oh no I still have these tickets for a group I don’t even like, good thing I got that insurance!”

    I was happy until I spoke over the phone to Allianz and come to find out there’s quite a short list of things that are actually covered under my “policy”. Which let’s be honest here seems a little silly since it’s a simple pair of concert tickets, hardly worth having its own “policy”. I did not receive any policy number or information regarding the insurance. It was just a receipt from the ticket sales company. It wasn’t until I called their customer service line that I was even told the small list of things covered. I was basically told that there’s few things covered and I would have to submit documents and proof for all sorts of situations which again seems a little overkill for a refund on two simple concert tickets.

    Apparently my reason wasn’t good enough for them. But even after that I had a car accident and again I tried to call them to see if maybe that was sufficient enough of a reason as my vehicle is no longer in operation and was hung up on. So at this point, needless to say, I feel cheated by the company and have now since found it has 1/5 stars on a lot of sites unfortunately for people who also fell victim to their policies that will not help you. It’s not like I am trying to scam them out of money, this wasn’t some 12,000$ Travel insurance. It was just for two little tickets to see Hooty and the Blowfish for 167$, which may not seem like much but it’s significant to me. Unfortunately apparently customers are not a priority.

    I found out after the fact that the Allianz insurance that covers event attendance has significant limitations. If you or your guest has an illness that short term in duration (e. g. 24 GI flu) and cannot attend, Allianz will not cover the cost of the event without a Doctor's note. The problem is that while the illness is severe enough to miss the event, the symptoms will not persist until the person can be seen by a Doctor. It is my opinion that anyone expects to be covered in such a circumstance reconsider buying coverage from Allianz. It is further my opinion that this insurance is not worth the extra cost beyond the ticket price.

    I purchased insurance on my round trip flight to New York in case anything came up. Unfortunately, the program I was planning to attend cancelled forcing me to cancel my trip. When I called Allianz I was told I will not be refunded for my cancellation because it does not fall under one of the "covered reasons." The whole reason I purchased insurance was because I read up to 100% of cancellations will be refunded. This company gets you with their fine print and VERY RESTRICTIVE coverage. Their process to file a claim also requires lots of documentation and many steps. Purchasing the insurance was worthless and now I'm just out even more money than I would have been if I hadn't purchased the insurance on top of the flight I won't get refunded for.

    I’ve traveled extensively to more than 20 countries and have bought flight insurance every time just in case anything happens. Over the years nothing has ever happened that required me to draw on the travel insurance support, until a few months ago when I had a family crisis. I had to cancel and change my flight and called Allianz for help but they did not do a thing for me.     We would definitely recommend Allianz to family and friends (I have already done so). On our recent trip to Cabo San Lucas Mark became ill and had to go to emergency. Imagine the surprise when we were told we had to pay over $4,000 to the hospital on our credit card before we could leave. We cut our vacation short so we rescheduled our flights home again adding to the credit card.     I had purchased cancellation insurance because of the time of year of a planned trip and my age. as it turned out there was a forecast for an ice storm in the locale I was planning to travel. We do not have a vehicle to travel in snow let alone ice so I had to cancel. I was an getaway for a 49 year wedding anniversary so the trip and or cancellation was not a lark.

    I took the time to fill out the claim, waited, no credit for room issued. I followed up to see what was wrong and was told they were waiting for proper documentation. Prior to my original submission I researched past weather data and found it to be unproductive. Feeling my rationale for cancellation was self explanatory I submitted the original claim. Then I had to reissue my info. in order to get my refund. TOO much red tape for such a small amount. I will never book a room where I have to buy cancellation ins. again.

    I had booked a flight (2059) with AA airlines and took out Allianz trip insurance. Flight was canceled due to severe weather on Feb 6, 2019 in Boston due to winter storm Harper. How can Allianz keep the premium paid for a trip that did not happen and only find out after being away for 12 days that you have to cancel a trip within 10 days that did not happen. This is an example of big guy vs small guy and using the fine print that nobody reads to screw the customer. You should be proud!
