    I Purchased insurance from Allianz Global thru Hotwire when renting a car. They acknowledge that they received my order but due to a glitch in Allianz's computer system they did not process the order (I did receive two emails one from Hotwire confirming the purchase 2nd below). They (Allianz customer service) have admitted that many Hotwire customers were affected by the same glitch. After an accident and subsequently many hours on the phone I am now stuck stranded without a car.

    I have purchased travel insurance from them on multiple times. Twice I've needed to file a claim, once due to an ice storm that prevented travel and another due to floods that prevented Amtrak from operating (24hr+ delay). The first claim was denied and the second claim currently a month old with no response other than a request for a review. So here's my review: waste of money. I do not have confidence in them and will never purchase their insurance again. In my opinion this company needs to be investigated.

    When I initially contacted Allianz by telephone I spoke with a customer service person by the name of Heather. I advised her of the accident my wife. She gave me information on how to file a claim and where to send in receipts. I told her that there were claims for hospital services and others for wound care that were in Chinese. She assured me that was not a problem and that Allianz had resources to translate the receipts. Well, Allianz closed the claim without mentioning or reimbursing us for the hospital or pharmacy expenses. I am very disappointed, especially since the dollar amounts for these expenses are very little. All of them probably do not exceed $75 US dollars. I feel I was misled by Allianz and their representative.

    Sadly, we had to cancel a highly anticipated Viking River Cruise at the last minute due to a necessary brain surgery for my husband. I tried calling Allianz to do it, but waited so long I just decided to try and use the on-line process. It was not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. There are a few bells and whistles you have to deal with, but hey, that is insurance. Once you have the necessary documentation from the travel agent and doctor, it was not that hard to upload the paperwork to Allianz. You are immediately notified that the documents have been received and I was told to wait 10 days for approval. From start to finish, it was about 25 days and I received a full refund for my trip. I would certainly recommend Allianz to anyone who feels like there is the slightest chance that an uncertain illness may pop up at the last minute.

    When filling a claim, it is "suggested" to use the web portal for filling. The web portal will not accept a non-US phone number, or a non-US post code. This makes it impossible to file a claim if you do not live in the US. When asking to send the payment to my bank account via direct deposit, this request was ignored and a check was sent. Unfortunately checks are not accepted by the banks in the Netherlands. The phone support was helpful and appreciated.

    Allianz Global was extremely easy to work with when it came to making a claim on a cancelled trip to CO. Since I have had a few episodes of vertigo which comes for no apparent reason, I decided to purchase travel insurance. Sure enough a couple days before the trip I woke up with vertigo which is very debilitating. I went to the ear institute to receive a treatment for the vertigo. I asked the doctor to write a letter in case it didn't improve enough in the next couple days, since there was no way I could fly in this condition.

    After cancelling the trip I called Allianz Global and spoke to a rep that was very pleasant. He helped me to make a claim and sent a form via email. After filling in the information and sending it with the doctors letter, I received an update on the status of my claim. I just received a check in the full amount of my plane ticket and am very happy I made the wise decision to purchase travel insurance.It makes more sense to lose the $20 on insurance than to risk losing $379.on plane fare, I plan to do this for every future trip just to give me peace of mind.     My buying travel insurance at the last minute was the best thing I ever did last month. My sister had planned a sibling weekend with my brothers in Jackson, MS - and because I am the one that lives the furtherest away, I needed to book a flight. One of my brothers had had a heart attack in January and had surgery, but was still feeling poorly six months later.     I had to file a claim for the first time and initially it seemed very easy. I was told that I could open a claim and add to it later on and so I opened the claim with my known expenses. Allianz requested some additional information that I provided and then I received a $400 check towards a $3000 claim. No explanation as to what they approved or denied. Only after I call do they reopen the claim and send a larger check. But still no explanation as to what they paid against. I requested a summary of the claim but they tell me that’s internal information and they can’t send it to me. They also tell me the claim has been closed and if I want to add to the claim it now needs to go through appeals. No medical expenses had been filed since I’m still receiving those bills. I email appeals at the address provided and over a week later I haven’t received a response. The whole process has ended up being more difficult than I could’ve imagined.

    Having had shortfall insurance for a while I was forced to claim on it when my car was written off. From the start the claims service was laborious with me having to repeatedly chase when the claim had stalled. Finally I get an email confirming the payout and promising funds within 10 working days. Fast forward 10 working days - nothing. I call them (lots as they are either busy or my favorite, closed for training!) to initially be fobbed off with the excuse 'it is a computer problem'. Explained that really that's not my issue it's theirs then spoke to someone else who simply wanted to record a complaint. Still no idea what is happening, when I'll get my payout or have any clue as to what is really going on. Morally bankrupt company.

    If you have health insurance or a life insurance policy, that is essentially all this "travel insurance" is, only much, much more limited and only for a select few days. Admittedly, I was misled by the advertisement they had with Delta airlines and I thought that it covered cancellation up to a certain point for the airline tickets. However, when I was inquiring about specific coverages to see if there was anything to be done about it, I realized that it literally only covers death, emergency medical situations... and that's it. If you're particularly worried about dying during a trip, maybe don't go and save yourself the airline money plus the $5 or so this policy charges per day.

    On July 4th of this year I purchased a round-trip ticket to San Francisco and back, to Syracuse NY. On July 7th - three days later - I had to cancel the trip due to a question/shortage of available funds. Fortunately - I thought - I'd also purchased "travel insurance" through Allianz Global. I went to their website and completed the form, all the way until the final "submit" button. When I clicked on the button, I received an odd message regarding the "Amount" total I expected to have refunded ($438): "You have not included a total".

    I finally got the button to SEND my form. However, I received no message - NOTHING - from the company via my provided email. After several failed attempts to phone the company, I reached an individual who stated, that I "..may not qualify". In other words, I paid $438 on my credit card, and after only THREE DAYS I was being denied. So, neither Delta or Allianz would refund my money. I don't travel very often and I was shocked at this. Is this how travel insurance works? Unless you've been a victim of a terrorist or a mugging, I don't see anyone with a reasonable cancellation coming up with any refund; which frankly is unfair and unethical. Never, ever will I purchase as much as a plastic spoon from either Delta Airlines or their buddies at Allianz.

    Purchased insurance with the "it covers everything". NO IT DOES NOT. Wallet was stolen. It does not cover flight because this is not covered under the mysterious list of covered events. Apparently in whatever country they answer the phone and barely speak English, you MUST file a police report. NEWSFLASH - we live in a rural area with NO POLICE DEPARTMENT. This is a lie according to them. Everyone has a police department. Hate to break it to you. We do NOT. We rely on local sheriff. No they do not file a police report for a minor incident as they do not have time.

    I purchased tickets for a concert in June back in April. Being that I got these tickets at a rather late time they were more expensive. Nevertheless, to make sure if for any reason I couldn't go, I bought ticket insurance which was recommended on the Vivid Seats website. All that was said to me was that if for any reason I couldn't make the trip, I would be refunded. Well, lo and behold my girlfriend ended up becoming sick with food poisoning a few days before the trip and wouldn't be well enough to go. I went to go get a refund for my tickets since in total it was $448 dollars which is no small amount of money! Considering I am a college student I don’t have a lot of spending money and the only reason I spent this much was because it was a birthday gift for my girlfriend which I saved up for months. I called customer service and was told that sickness was covered under my insurance. I WAS NOT TOLD THAT I NEEDED A DOCTORS NOTE.

    My girlfriend did not go to a doctor because she has said she had food poisoning before and could take care of it on her own. Nevertheless, she was still too weak that day to travel all the way into Philly to a huge concert and then drive over an hour back home with me at midnight. I went to the Allianz website to file my claim and then nearly a month later I was told it was still incomplete for missing files. Since she had not gone to a doctor, I had typed up what she had gone through and sent it to them. The next morning I had gotten an email saying that I was denied for my claim because I needed to send in a doctors note. I am so incredibly frustrated and mad because most companies will refund you as long as it is not 24 hours before an event. And I understand that this is a more of a travel insurance website and not really for tickets but since they DO offer ticket insurance they should have DIFFERENT POLICIES for it.

    Since this was my only option at the time, I had to buy this insurance. This company is nothing but incredibly greedy. They told me in the email the next day that I needed to have a doctors note in order to get a refund when I was told BEFORE that as long as I send in the symptoms of my sick companion it is covered under the insurance. I also mentioned to them that if they needed proof, my girlfriend would have been more than happy to offer an official statement. These people are not clear with their policies and they make it seem like they just want to steal your money. I lost over $400 dollars which I desperately need back and they have absolutely no sympathy or compassion. I don’t understand how they've kept in business so long. I will absolutely NEVER use this company ever again and I’m warning everyone to stay away.

    If you are ever thinking about renting out a car and it says “Allianz Global insurance” think again... They are liars and scammers and if you request a refund because of you changing your mind on getting the rental they will not give it to you. I requested a refund a month ago and they told me to wait a whole month for it to return. So I did (knowing it was probably bs) trying to give them the benefit of doubt and yet a month later nothing has changed. In the corporate office the receptionist will hang up in your face by the name of Sacora ** and she’ll be rude and not try to help you then if you call her back she won’t answer. This is not how a business is supposed to operate and if it was their money they would be pissed off too. Never do business with Allianz.

    I'm very glad that I did purchase this policy since we traveled with a pregnant person in our party and you just don't know what could happen. Everything went fine for the trip, we made it most of the way without any issues. Just me losing my sunglasses on the airplane on our way home. I filed a claim right away with the airlines, but waited a few days before filing a claim with Allianz Global. I figured I would give the airlines a chance to find the glasses first. Anyway I did have to file a claim with Allianz Global for the missing sunglasses. They were really fast processing the claim and sending me a check for the value of my sunglasses.     My father died and his funeral was planned for Sat. I booked a flight Thurs with AA and because it was last minute and so expensive I thought travel insurance would be a good idea. An HOUR later I learn the funeral was moved to Monday. I cancel my flight and rebook immediately. My claim was rejected. READ THE FINE PRINT. Chances are you WON'T get your money back. RIP-OFF. Not worth it. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Why can't they pick up the phone and call me if they have questions? They apparently are only capable of sending form letters. When I call I am told that my claims agent is not available.     Let me first state what went right: my return trip from Germany after my coronary was handled well; I returned home with no gliches, and Allianz staff that handled it was informed and helpful. Also, though one claim (involving ambulance service) is still under review, the payment of my medical expenses appears correct, though I have been told they would have been covered by my own health insurance after a copay that was far less than my Allianz' premium.

    What went wrong: In most insurance policies, one insures the value of what he or she owns; for example, my auto premium is based on the value of my car; my home insurance is based on the value of my home, etc. Premiums are calculated accordingly. I want Allianz to know that one of the first things I remembered to do upon coming out of surgery was to ask American Express to cancel all of my subsequent reservations; all the hotels appeared to waive significant penalties that Allianz might have been responsible for.

    I was obviously more concerned about Allianz' expenses, and acting honorably to reduce them, than Allianz was about mine. In any event, Allianz failed to pay approximately $4000 of my trip interruption expenses, notwithstanding that they are legitimate and well documented. In particular, because we stayed at a luxury hotel, and my wife continued to stay there during my medical emergency, as it was within walking distance and a comfortable setting (she obviously already had enough on her mind), Allianz' payment was limited to a specific number of days that had no relationship to my illness - the chief cardiologist advised me not to travel for 30 days - and a price way below what we were charged by the hotel.

    I had not read the policy details; after all Allianz called it "insurance" and I assumed it was such. Allianz' promotion does not highlight these limits; one must read the fine print in the policy. Those like me, who assume Allianz is behaving honorably, will be disappointed by these very artificially low limits, as Allianz only provides the maximum payout amount in what it highlights in promotion.

    An insurance policy ought to cover actual, reasonable loss by the insured, and if not cost effective in your view, then there should be an opportunity to pay for additional coverage for more than basic accommodations. Even were the $250 per day appropriate, which it isn't, the 5-day limit would have required me to leave Germany before I was healthy enough to do so. Policies like Allianz (and I assume others in the industry) should be required to be more transparent as to their limitations; they do not provide "insurance" as that term is ordinarily understood, nor the opportunity to even purchase it.

    Second, Allianz phone representatives on its consumer line are poorly trained in English; I could not understand either of the 2 men I talked to, and ultimately gave up. I was actually told by one of them that I wasn't required to follow Allianz' recommendation to purchase a Prime policy, though even the most expensive policy (advertised as designed for travel to remote places, which Germany is not) still might have been inadequate, but in any event, to tell a customer after the fact that he doesn't need to abide by the company's own recommendation as to what is appropriate coverage is outrageously hypocritical. Allianz can be assured that I will be more careful should I need to purchase travel insurance again. As I said above, what went right went very right, what went wrong was the result of my misplaced trust in what is largely an industry and company that could use some additional regulation, or perhaps, more basic honesty.

    My recent trip to New Zealand was fraught with problems. On the way there, the IAH-AKL flight was cancelled at the last minute. Helpfully, Allianz immediately and unexpectedly sent me a text message alerting me that I was covered for trip interruption insurance. On the way back, the air carrier on the last leg sent a message that I should reroute my flight to avoid IAH due to storms. I had to then reschedule with the long-haul carrier, which had a change fee associated. I kept all my documentation and boarding passes, which I submitted to Allianz upon return.     I purchased the insurance in case we couldn’t go on the trip. Upon realizing we couldn’t do the trip because of an illness there were lots of hoops I felt like I had to jump thru. I wasn’t insuring the individual but the trip. It cost me money for a doctors visit to get the necessary documents for cancellation.     My wife and I filed separate claims using the same policy number. Both claims were submitted in the same envelope which was sent to Allianz. My wife's claim was never acknowledged by Allianz on your website. Several calls were made regarding her claim. One claims representative said that you found her claim and that it would sent to a claims examiner.

    After a week with nothing being done we called again. A different claims examiner said that the claim had not be processed. I was then placed on "hold" and after a few minutes he returned to my call and said that the claim had now been approved. He also said that we would receive credit for both claims on our debit card. Instead I received a check a few days ago for my claim. My wife claim has still not been paid. Additionally I had advised a claims representative to please send any checks to our vacation home in Utah where we spend the summer. I gave the claims examiner of our Utah address and was assured that the checks would be sent to Utah and not to our home in Miami. Guess what--my check was sent to our Miami address and not Utah. Allianz needs to "get its act together.

    Being able to insure $300-1500 "nonrefundable" economy seats for around $40ish bucks has been a game changer for me since I found out about it.     Before my vacation trip to Asia, I had decided to get myself the World Elite Mastercard and the protection offered by it to buy it which is with Allianz Global. On the day of the travel, the airline delayed the flight and and got me stuck in Toronto for more than 20 hours and then later the second airline notified me that the Pakistani airspace is closed and it might interrupt some of their flights going over. By reading so, I decided not to take a risk and go back home. I then file the claim and sending all the papers and proofs that my trip was canceled and a month after, they still ask me more proofs and paperwork. I mean what can you send more when you already sent all!? I am losing in the thousands of dollars and all of the experience dealing with them makes me nervous and anxious.
