I have never had to actually submit a claim before so it took me a while to figure out what documents I needed, where to send them etc. I thought that part was not user friendly. BUT once I figured it out, I gathered the documents, submitted them and got a response within a week.

Although I was in rehab from rotator cuff surgery I booked my flights in February thinking that I would be finished with physical therapy by September 2019. That didn’t work out in my favor. Glad I purchased the insurance. You do need to have your documentation in order. That said the insurance was money well spent. Keep up the good work.

Due to health reasons, my doctor said I could not go on this trip. I sent copy of the letter and some extra information, and I received a full refund on 9/13/2019 and my trip was to begin 9-21-19. I was impressed. Good Insurance.

The woman with whom I spoke when my flight was originally cancelled was EXTREMELY helpful and reassuring; the gentleman who helped me figure out how to submit my claim online after my return home (that website is a bit challenging!!) was as well. I bought flight insurance. When I had to cancel the trip due to my wife's illness, I submitted all the required documents to the company. I received a check for the full amount of our tickets, within a week. Amazing and incredulous.

Because my became ill, we had to cancel two trips and one trip was interrupted. The service in handling this was prompt and excellent. The claim form was clear and precise and the refund claim was done promptly. The telephone claims personnel were very helpful and efficient. I have no complaints whatsoever with Allianz and plan to renew.

Vacation canceled due to hospitalization. The company was very quick to acknowledged my claim and with the documents that I submitted were reviewed quickly and I have received my check for the cancelation. Requested a refund and you were very quick to get me a refund back but I only received one for one of my tickets when I had purchased and requested a refund for both. Am still waiting to hear back and it’s been almost a week.

Allianz always amazes me. I continually travel all over the world and I always insure with Allianz. The times I have been forced to use the insurance I have been well pleased. I will always insure with Allianz. I have attempted to use Travel Guard. They are a fraud.

I had to cancel my plans to Freeport, Bahamas due to the hurricane and the resort I was staying at was destroyed. Allianz was very helpful with getting me a claim number to file for reimbursement on my flight. From start to finish all was very easy and helpful to get thru. I would recommend trip insurance thru Allianz to all family and friends.

Within two weeks of reporting my lost jacket, Allianz sent me a check for the fair market value, which will let me replace my jacket. Doesn't sound like much? It was my favorite rain jacket I had used every day of my vacation. It was lost on the last leg, going home amidst many problems with my flights, delays, gate changes, surly airline people, and a big disappointment. Allianz did what they said they would to make a bad thing better, Thanks.

Baggage delay claim. The process was fairly easy overall, and the turnaround to receive our claim check was under two weeks. I believe almost all of our claim was processed and refunded, which was nice. The only negative is that the flight costs themselves were not applicable, which was the original source of the problem, so we were unable to use the maximum amount refundable under our policy due to lack of applicable charges. Overall a very good process, thank you.

Making a claim was very simple. When I did need help, I called in and someone answered right away. My claim was processed very quickly. Being able check the status of my claim was very useful. I didn’t expect it to be handled so fast.

We were very happy with the prompt turnaround of claims processing. This is the first time we have insured a trip through Allianz however we would do so again. We have hear horror stories from others who indicated the process for claims submission was difficult, however that was not our experience.

Bought insurance for a customer. Very easy to do in our Cruise Planners software. Very convenient. After Hurricane Dorian cancelled our trip to Florida, we tried to get a refund through our airline. There was no luck. We got vouchers but they had subtracted $400 in cancellation fees when the airport itself was closed the day before our flight was to arrive. I luckily had bought trip insurance and after providing them all of our information, our claim was approved and we got a check in the mail. I'm so thankful we finally bought insurance for these flights.

I received reimbursement of less than what was claimed. I sent an e-mail to find out if Allianz took into account that the invoice from Sandals was for a room for 3 nights and also included the cost of food. The response that I originally received stated that the payment was adjusted according to the terms of the policy. Reason for reduction was the amount submitted exceeded the coverage of the plan. Did Allianz take into account that the invoice includes food. Thank you.

We had to cancel a trip to Paris due to an accident and subsequent surgery. We had purchased travel insurance for our airfare from Allianz. We sent them a doctors note, our receipt for payment and our itinerary on their claims site. It took a few weeks, but we ended up getting a check back for the cost of our airfare. I bought the insurance for medical reasons as my husband had a kidney transplant and I am on an insulin pump. Medical issues at our age (60s) can come up quick sometimes. I did not know about the travel disruption. My husband was looking over the policy in our hotel room on the way home from Myrtle beach and discovered it.
We were surprised and so happy. The process of filling out the paperwork online was extremely easy and all we had to do was get a copy of the original bill which took a bit of time. But after we submitted the correct paperwork the process was so FAST and we were ecstatic at the refund of the money. It was a long drive from Rochester NY to Myrtle Beach SC. We kept hoping the Hurricane would pass us by as we had only been there a few days. But as it got closer I got more nervous and when we got the mandatory eviction from the hotel it was a mad rush to leave and got stuck in all the traffic. The vacation we had planned for our anniversary was ruined. But the insurance was wonderful at least we got the money back for the resort and it was a quick and easy process.

When Amtrak cancelled our Auto Train reservation for the second time, we were forced to drive home to FL from VA. This was not Amtrak's fault though, as their safety regulations required that the train be shut down during Hurricane Dorian. Allianz was very helpful and very quickly paid our claims for expenses incurred for "additional travel due to natural disaster". This was a classic example of why you should always purchase travel insurance!

I always purchase travel insurance with Allianz. I have never, thankfully, had to use it UNTIL Hurricane Dorian had me stranded at sea for an extra week. When I finally made it home and submitted a claim for travel disruption, it was handled promptly and I had a check within 2 weeks. Every time I plan a trip, I also plan on getting a policy. I feel that we should have gotten money back for staying at the Airport overnight being out plane with canceled. When I first called in to report this incident the gentleman I talked to said I would get money back for staying at the airport from my ticket. This is why I took Insurance out. It's not worth taking Insurance out if things like this happen and you can't get reimbursed. Please contact me if you have any questions **.

Due to hurricane Dorian, our trip itinerary was disrupted. When I contacted Allianz, the customer service rep was helpful, kind, and knowledgeable and advised us of our options. When we submitted our claim, it was handled expeditiously and Allianz communicated with us every step of the way. Very happy with their service and responsiveness.

1. At the time of my daughter's medical issue, in Croatia, I was told that I could arrange for direct-pay. That was inaccurate, because the materials needed for direct-pay are the materials I receive upon discharge and payment. 2. When I completed the on-line claim, the fields were unclear. 3. My daughter's medical report was in Croatian. I had the report translated and put in for the translation, but was denied. This seems wrong, as I didn't think I could submit a Croatian medical report. We had to cancel our flight last minute due to the declining health of my father-in-law...the process to file a claim was pretty straight-forward and easy as I had the proper documentation from the hospital. I have sustained an injury that required me to cancel all travel plans for the next 3-4 months. I uploaded my hospital diagnosis page and was quickly refunded the airfare for our Orlando trip. OMG! Thank you Allianz. I recently traveled you Europe for vacation and experienced a medical emergency while in Germany. I had to pay 5,000 Euros for my surgery. Filed a claim with Allianz when I got back and the process and the customer service was amazing. Friendly, professional representatives that were willing and able to help in a matter of a few minutes. Most importantly, I received my reimbursement in less than 15 working days. That compared to Travel Guard is a much more pleasant experience. I insured a Lufthansa flight within Europe with Travel Guard which I had to Cancel due to my medical emergency, calling them is useless, 45 minutes on hold and had to hang up. Today is day 15 of my $460 claim and it’s still under review. Travel Guard NEVER AGAIN.

This is the worst and incompetent insurance company I have ever known. I patiently waited for 3 months for the reimbursement and payment to my hospital bill in Las Vegas for a simple medical claim. I was unfortunately rushed to the hospital during our vacation. After 3 months, they asked for another documentation and verification in which they could asked that from the very first day when I filed my claim. I am very very disappointed and upset on how they deal each claim. They don't care about us and doesn't feel empathy to policy holders. Now, It's been 41/2 months but still collecting and gathering documentations. I will never ever again purchase any insurance from this company. Constant follow up doesn't work, they will just give you a timeline, another timeline and another timeline to when they will and should have decision and reimbursement.

The refund process. My son's military ceremony was cancelled for hurricane reasons and the airline seemed to feel that because his city was just outside the range it wasn't a good enough reason, it's a good thing we paid for the insurance.

I rented a car through Hotwire in late February to travel to Maine from NYC. They offer the Collision/Damage Coverage from Allianz in the website, so I decided to take it instead of paying the extra fee of CDW (Collision/Damage Waiver) offered by the rental company. That weekend, we had a winter storm and the roads were covered with snow/ice. When driving back to the city, in the highway, I hit a block of ice (5" H x 5" W). I inspected the vehicle, checking for any damages, but there were none (visible, at least). Half an hour later, the car stalled out. We called the rental company, who tow the car to the closest rental office. We changed vehicles and kept driving back to the city.
5 months later, I received an invoice from the rental company, charging me $12,000 USD for the damages caused to the vehicle. It turned out that the block of ice broke the lower core of the engine and they were charging me total loss and replacement, and they were charging me because I didn't accepted the CDW offer by the rental company (mandatory to be covered by Allianz). I called immediately to file the claim - it was very easy and user-friendly through their website. I submitted all the paperwork requested online, and they negotiated internally with the car rental company. The situation took around 6 weeks to be resolved, but at the end, Allianz covered all the damages without any premium or affecting my personal insurance record. And, even though it took longer than expected, every time I called to Customer Service, the people were very transparent and gave all the information available in regards the claim.
I'm totally satisfied with the service, and I find it very useful - but only for longer trips or rentals longer than a week. If you're planning to rent a car for a week or less, just pay the extra fee for the CDW offered by the rental company; the price difference won't be significant and you won't have to worry, no matter what happens to the car, when you drop the keys in the counter when returning it. However, if your planning to rent a car for longer than a week, then it might be worth it because you could be saving some money; although, be ready to deal any claims from the rental car company if an accident happens. Just make sure to have all the paperwork available if something happens.

Allianz is a scam. I've purchased insurance about 5 or 6 years ago because I was buying tickets for many family members. Sure enough, a few got sick. No problems getting my money back. Last year I bought insurance and was asked to get a doctor's note saying my kid was so sick. Well, two things... college kids don't always go to the doctor when they get sick. 2) Going to get a note from a family doctor telling them your kid is sick in another state is questionable. Nevertheless, given her medical history, I got the note. Called Allianz and they wanted me to talk to someone special and sign affidavits - not the usual online claims process. It was intimidating so I dropped it. I will never trust them and I just counted it up to experience.

The small business I work for has Chase corporate credit cards. One of the card benefits is Allianz rental car insurance coverage. We have made two claims, with Allianz, several years apart and the experience both times was frustrating and time consuming. The most recent experience was for a small claim of less than $800 and took over 8 months to resolve, during which time we had to submit all our documents multiple times because Allianz could not find seem them in their system. The representatives outright lied to us about the process and the status of the claim on several occasions. The representatives were consistently rude and the information provided changed depending on who we talked to. They did everything they could not pay or delay paying what was, after all, a very small claim.
In the end, we paid more in staff salaries to manage the claim than the actual claim was worth. Not only is it our company policy to never purchase Aliianz travel insurance (with United or Delta Airlines tickets for example) we do not consider our "free" credit card benefit to be an actual benefit and have instead purchased rental car insurance through a reputable third part provider not associated in any way with Allianz.

Icelander airline completely cancelled my trip for no good reason. At first I was not happy with the customer service person I spoke with from Allianz because she expressed that I would not be refunded unless the trip was cancel due to natural disaster. However, submitting my claim online, I was surprise to receive a refund check yesterday. With that being said, I am satisfied with Allianz.

Our flight to JFK was diverted and end in Baltimore. To get home we had to rent a car to drive another 3 hours home. Allianz reimbursed the car rental, tolls and gas without any hassle. It was super easy to submit claim. We received the reimbursement in less than a week.

The wheel on one of our luggage broke during our European trip last month to the point it is unbearable to drag it. We decided to purchase a new one and dispose the damage one. I took pictures of the damage luggage and the purchase receipt for my claim. Upon arrival home, I went to Allianz Global website and filed my claim. The website is really easy to use. I entered all my personal stuffs and downloaded all the required documentations then submit. Got a response in a few minutes I submitted saying Allianz will review my claim. Got another email following day saying my claim was approved and the check is in the mail. This is the second time I've used Allianz, the first was in 2016. It hasn't disappointed me yet as far as customer service and how fast they settling a claim. I'll continue using them on my future European travels and I strongly recommend them to all my peers.

When our trip had to be cancelled due to My Wife's medical condition, I filed a claim to Allianz to recover the airline costs. Based on some of the "horror" stories I expected that I would only recover a portion of my claim. When I filed the claim I was informed the claim would be reviewed and I should hear from Allianz in approximately 10 business days. I didn't expect much. WRONG! Ten business days later I received a refund for the full amount. Many of my friends have not experienced a response such as this. But then, they didn't insure with Allianz as we did. They will in the future. Thank you Allianz for living up to your word.

I highly recommend Allianz travel insurance! Had I not spent a mere 25.00 I would have been out 380! I was scheduled to travel to Florida the week after Dorian— beaches were still closed, our hotel had been evacuated though they were scheduled to open prior to my arrival. Suffice it to say that a vacation to that area was far less than desirable at that point. Though the airlines would not refund my ticket nor would they give me a voucher to fly another time, Allianz was “Johnny on the Spot”! We were going on our 30 year anniversary trip to Myrtle Beach after Dorian hit (I scheduled the trip 5 months ago). I cancelled our trip the Thursday before the Tuesday departure. The airlines told me basically that the hurricane will have already hit (didn't seem to care there was devastation afterwards) and said sorry no refund. Since I was new to a claim I thought I'd try there but then remembered I bought insurance from Allianz. I took the easy to follow steps for claims and submitted some proof of our trip then hit submit.
I woke up that night thinking I sent insufficient proof (bad things happen to us!) And figured it'd get kicked out of the system and we'd end up with eating the expense. I was thrilled to find the email where all our flight costs were getting refunded!! I received the check even before what would've been the end of our trip. I very often buy travel insurance but have never needed to use it before. I'm so glad we had it this time to cancel a trip due to a medical issue. My several phone inquiries regarding the process, what was covered, what documents were required, which medical providers were acceptable, etc. were all handled with professionalism, empathy and unusual helpfulness. Whenever I asked a question that the agent was unsure of the answer, they all consulted someone who did know. The only glitch in filing the claim was uploading more than one document at a time even though the program stated that all docs had been uploaded. A follow up email from the company required the same doc again. Once the uploaded doc issue was resolved, the claim was reviewed very quickly and the check received in less than a week. Wow! I know that I'll always buy travel insurance from Allianz for all of my future travels!

I had an accident with a rental car on February 2019. The majority of the time when I call to follow up the reimbursement status, the answer I am getting is that it will be reviewed within the next 48 hours. I called Allianz two week ago and I was told that everything will be resolved by the 13th of September 2019. I called "AGAIN" today, 16 SEPT 2019 and guess what was the update?. The claim will be reviewed within the next 48 hours. During the past 6 months I have called more than 30 times and almost the same answer. One of my calls they asked me to contact the rental car company in order to get the claim resolved.

I waste my airline ticket due to business interruption. They decline the claim because the reason is not covered. However, as a normal consumer, my credit card already provides travel insurance, when I bought the travel protection through Priceline booking, my impression is it will cover most of major causes. There is no clear statement saying it has to be either someone died, or ill... Well, it's OK to not reimburse me, but I would say, this kind of insurance is completely useless. I will never buy it again, and I recommend everybody don't purchase the protection from it again. Check your credit card, it may do the same.

Allianz successfully handled my claim when Avis refused to help me. I was delayed 24 hrs due to airline issues and when I called to update my car pickup date/time in Ireland I was notified that my rate would increase by $247. Avis was unhelpful in every way. Allianz rep took all my notes, sent me the claim forms, and I received my refund within a couple of weeks! Thank you! One thing that was unclear was when I was submitting the claim documents online, there was nothing to describe what the issue was, or why I was asking for reimbursement. I just had to trust that the notes taken over the phone were in the "system". There was also no place to come back and check the status of my claim, a check just arrived in the mail. The user interface could be improved.

Our original report of 9/10/19 was not completed correctly by us as we rated Delta Air Lines with "one star". This unfortunately reflected Allianz Travel Insurance, which in reality should have been a "FIVE Star" rating. Once home, we contacted Allianz and told them about our 14 hr flight delay at JFK. They were fast in processing the claim and sending a check to us for our inconvenience. On our next upcoming trip, we definitely will take their travel protection plan.

Purchased tickets to see Alabama in Grand Rapids Michigan which is 3 hours from my residence. The tickets were for our anniversary on our anniversary of 8/23. Event was postponed due to illness of singer. We are yet to be informed as of 9/8/19 of a new date and even if we were informed, it would not be on my anniversary. Attempts to collect on a claim with Allianz were denied because according to them it did not fall within their policy (sorry I probably should have had an attorney to review it prior to purchasing but was not informed that that was required).. They WRITE THEIR POLICY SO THAT THE AVERAGE PERSON CAN NEVER COLLECT ON A CLAIM WITH THEM. I ADVISE NOT TO EVER PURCHASE A POLICY FROM ALLIANZ.

I submitted a claim (number above) on August 28th when there was the distinct possibility that hurricane Dorian could enter the Gulf of Mexico. I was asked to submit documentation, but I did not have any idea what was required. On August 30th I was informed that I would be contacted in 2 or 3 days by claims adjuster with update on my claim. As of this writing on September 9th I have not received any update. I would not say that I am dissatisfied with the experience because I realize it takes time to review each claim. It is just that I am currently in limbo waiting on status of my claim. Having lived through Hurricane Michael last October that was a category 5 hurricane any storm that enters the Gulf of Mexico is reason for concern and alarm.

I found dealing with Allianz travel insurance only caused additional stress and made our situation worse. We paid a substantial sum for assistance and cover and what should not have been complicated is turning into a nightmare so that we have decided we can no longer deal with them whilst overseas because of all the misinformation and additional stress being caused:
1) We found it really difficult to get through on their emergency phone when in CBD areas and the automated system was not responsive so we would be kept in a recording loop.
2) We would get a different case manager each time who had not bothered to review our claim properly before contacting us and who no previous knowledge of claim and each handler would kept request the info I had already provided over and over and over ...
3) The case managers did not appear to take notice of details and each case manager would provide a different set of advice to follow so we would never know whether what we should be doing was correct for the next case handler.
4) The nurses also would say things like I would have to ascertain the exact O2 level percentage in the blood and then research whether that was suitable for an aged person to enter a national park and to provide that research to them. And this was after I had already told them the dr said O2 levels were good and that we could proceed on our our holiday. What the?
5) They requested our itinerary three times. I then had to keep sending the 10 page itinerary through to them 3 times!
6) They wanted me to provide personal details over unsecured WiFi (like copies of passport) which they should have requested at the time of approving our policy and all the in depth questionnaires and information at that time.
7) The capacity for Allianz to receive email attachments is extremely limited and information seemed to go into the abyss.
8) overall they were hard to contact and were making outrageous and unnecessary requests of me when I was trying to look after my elderly mum.
They have caused so much additional stress and unnecessary aggravation. It has quite been upsetting. And we are not even trying to make a claim at this stage!!!! And the above is only a slither of what we are experiencing from them! I can’t see how they could have such good reviews - it is simply misleading and I wouldn’t want others to be put in this vulnerable situation.

I have bought trip insurance many times over the years, but fortunately never had to file a claim. Our last trip was different, and we experienced both a trip delay on our departing flight as well as a trip interruption due to a medical emergency. I was skeptical about the coverage and really didn't expect to be fully reimbursed for the changes, but with proper documentation and a detailed explanation of what happened, I was pleasantly surprised. In addition, the claim filing process was quite efficient and easy to navigate. I will not hesitate again to insure future travel plans as you never know what the future holds.

I do not travel a lot, but when I do I have always used Allianz Travel Insurance. I have never had to make a claim until my last trip to Alaska. The plane I was supposed to fly to Vancouver on developed a hydraulic leak and could not depart until the next day. I lost my hotel payment for that night and arrived later the next day. Allianz refunded me in full the cost of the room for the night. Needless to say I was very pleased and recommend using Allianz to friends and family.

So! I was stranded in Florida due to a hurricane. One quick phone call, less than a couple of minutes, my flight was covered until the storm passed and I was TAKEN to a hotel of my choice with dinner and breakfast. I simply filled out an easy form, emailed the receipts for the hotel etc and was reimbursed straight away. I usually use an English company for when I’m in Europe but not anymore. On day 5 my wife fell on the sidewalk in Ireland breaking her kneecap. A day to forget ensued as we arranged a taxi driver, hospital visit, airport hotel in Dublin, flight change and every thing that goes with such an interruption. Submitting a claim was easy but getting clarification on what forms were needed prove to be a challenge. I received emails letting me know that I didn’t have all of the information that was needed. The emails never stated exactly what was needed. I had to call to get an explanation as to what I had to submit with my claim. I've used AIG in the past for a much worse reason, it was a more expensive policy, they took 7 months to process, more followup calls than I can count, to result in less. My husband and I recently had to cancel an Alaska Cruise one week prior to our scheduled departure. He ended up in the hospital on an emergency. Allianz Canada acknowledged receiving the claim 8/9/2019, but on 2 phone calls have failed to acknowledge their contract to pay the claim with 7-10 working days. Be careful.... When I read Trip Cancellations as one of the benefits I purchased this for our son. Now I have a situation where his high school had to change their game to the night of his travel day due to Hurricane Dorian. I only asked if I could change the flight for him to fly the following morning and the answer is NO. The only thing this covers is a medical emergency which you have to submit the doctor's note and it is reviewed for 10 days. So even that isn't guaranteed to be covered. If you ask me this is a total scam. The customer service rep did tell me that if the airline cancels the flight it is covered. - Well no kidding - the airline would reimburse me if they cancel the flight. Not Allianz Global. I will never buy this again.

I bought air tickets and bought insurance with it just in case we couldn't make the trip or something happened on the trip. All the airplanes we took were delayed and luggage came on a different day then we got there. We had no meals on the plane and snacks were not provided. Allianz was very good at giving up money back for our trip from hell. I recently purchased allianz travel insurance for a hotwire hotel as they do not allow refunds. On the hotwire website, allianz advertises as such "Create memories. Not worries. Benefits include: Trip cancellation protection. 24/7 award-winning live support". Not only did I receive neither of the above, I was very disappointed in the outcome of my claim.
I am a physician in the ICU and 2 weeks prior to my trip, another physician had a personal emergency and was unable to work the weekend my trip was scheduled. Thus, I was called to work for him. Thankfully, or so I thought, I had bought travel insurance and as this is, in every sense of the term, a medical emergency, I attempted to cancel my trip for a refund. I initially submitted a claim online. After 4-5 business days, they returned my email and stated that my claim was denied as it was not a "personal medical emergency." I called, waited on hold for 20 min for a gentleman whose accent I could not understand who ultimately told me to submit an appeal.
Thus, I submitted an appeal via email. After extensively working with hotwire to cancel my trip with the hotel and submitting an email detailing the events of the trip cancellation, I received no notification that the email had been received. Approximately 10 business days later, I finally received an email saying again that my claim was denied. I have not yet decided my next move on appealing this, however I would like to advise others against wasting $15-20 on insurance for hotwire hotels that is worthless.

The claim procedure was simple.. answer several questions and upload verification documents. The progress of the claim could be tracked online too. The claim check was received several weeks after filing. I highly recommend Allianz travel insurance every time you book travel expenses as the unexpected can occur and ruin a vacation. I purchased a ticket to Hawaii and at the time was offered travel insurance through Allianz. This insurance would include covering the reimbursement of plane tickets if for some reason I was not able to to go on my trip. Well, unfortunately one of my family members was not able to go on the vacation due to an unexpected illness. I filed a claim as soon as I found out my family member couldn't go. Allianz simply asked me to submit a letter from the doctor and fill out the required forms. I went on my vacation and came back home to a reimbursement check sitting on the counter.

I recently had an unexpected medical emergency on a cruise ship and had to be medically disembarked in British Columbia (luckily this was our planned last port). The doctor on the cruise ship contacted Allianz on my behalf to check on my coverage. I went to an emergency room and found there was not an ophthalmologist on staff there. I had to be transferred to a second hospital. I had laser surgery there and was cleared to fly. Being in Canada everything medical had to be pre-paid on my credit card. Plus, we didn’t make our original flight, and had to pay for new flights home.
Allianz was wonderful. They were easy to contact, they mailed me my paperwork for a medical claim and trip interruption. They emailed my travel companion paperwork for trip interruption. We each submitted documentation and each received checks within 10 days. What could have been an awful ending to an otherwise fantastic trip of a lifetime ended up being an adventure story shared with friends & family. I purchased the insurance for a trip overseas that involved a couple of legs and thought I would be covered for any issues. On the first day of my trip my flight was cancelled from my originating airport. This was due to weather and could not be helped. But I missed connecting flights in Newark, Glasgow and London. Because the flights from Glasgow to London to Madrid were booked separately than the initial legs from Columbus/Newark/Glasgow, the airline for the for the second leg of the journey was absolutely no help and even though I called ahead - they listed me as a no-show and charged me for new tickets that were twice as expensive as the original ones I had.
Well - that is why I bought insurance after all so I thought I was good. But I find out when I get back and am submitting my claim that the extra I had to pay for new tickets was not fully covered by my travel insurance, but that I only got $200 no matter how much the expenses were as a result of the cancelled flight. So in addition to losing a full day of my vacation and having an airline be totally unhelpful and greedy, I also find that the insurance I bought in good faith did not even cover the expenses I incurred. I am unlikely to buy travel insurance from Allianz Global Assistance in the future. I feel very betrayed by this company.
