I looked into solar for a couple of years and researched and met with just about every solar company out there. I chose Vivint because a friend of mine had gone with them and was really happy, and there was just no downside. It cost me nothing and our savings were going to be about 50%. Our installation was quick and very professional. I needed my conduit run a certain way, and they accommodated my request. A year into it now and our savings have been closer to 65%. I just got my true up bill from SDGE and they sent me a check for $142. I had two issues during the year and when I called customer service they were very responsive. I would recommend Vivint to anyone. Taylor is my rep, and has been great to work with. They have exceeded my expectations.
What a great review. Thank you for all of this information and feedback, Bob. It's great to hear about your experience and savings. Thanks for going solar with us!

I was very happy with Mike ** approach as opposed to Solar City's rep who was constantly calling & stopping by unannounced. Once I made my decision within 30 days my panels were up and functioning. My only complaint was with inspection of city. The city held up my switch to Solar for some required stickers on conduits.
Happy to hear you are pleased with your decision! Thank you for choosing to go solar with us, Ruben.

I was skeptical at first as cold call solicitation is usually in the form of vacuum sales tactics. This was not the case. Mr. ** made me feel like I was a client not a quick sale and the family loved him. His low pressure approach, "open book" personable persona, accompanied by his strong knowledge of the industry, gave me the confidence this was a good investment and I was making a positive decision I wouldn't regret.
The installation team was "clean cut" and very courteous. Looking at the finished product it is clear that they take pride in their work. I did have one concern pertaining to a hardware issue (my wife disagreed with me and stated "I was being over picky"). Still I called my service care provider Mr. **. He reviewed my concern (verified its validity) and took action to solve my request in a timely manner. Not surprisingly he was just as helpful, professional and courteous and the rest of the team I met. In conclusion I would highly recommend giving this company a chance to discuss your option for your solar needs. The prospect of saving money and "Going Green" in my opinion is well worth your time.
Thank you for this wonderful review, Jason. Lots of great feedback here. We're happy you went "green" with us and were willing to share your experience. Thanks again!

My panels have been installed since summer of 2015 and STILL are not turned on. I cannot get a return call from my account manager. I've been switched around to different account managers at least 3 times. My PG&E is still high of course which is the whole point of solar. So I have a roof covered in solar panels that are not turned on, an account manager that refuses to return my calls, and no one at the company can get me in touch with a manager who is above my account manager. I gave many referrals to this company and my in-laws signed up. At this point I just want them taken off my roof. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
Sorry to hear about your experience, Andrea. I'll provide assistance right away and contact the Regional Manager in your region. Thanks for reaching out to us about this.

The installation crew arrived on the day and at the time of our appointment, took care of installing my solar panels, made sure all connections were secure to the house and my electrical panel and made sure there was no debris left in my yard when the job was completed. Going solar is an extra bill that I pay. For now, it’s hard for me to say how good it is because at the same time that I got the panels, two more people moved into our house and one of them had a hospital bed and everything. Consequently, we use a lot more electricity now than we did last year. And the panels that I got were based on our previous year’s usage. Now they continue to do some more houses in our street. I talked to the installer and I told him that there was a tree that I was going to get cut down, so it wouldn’t block the panels, as that was the problem that I initially had with another company. I haven’t gotten the tree cut down yet, but once I do, I am going to call Vivint and see if I can get more panels. But like I said too, I’m using a lot more electricity, so it’s hard to say. However, I’ve been recommending Vivint. I had three additional houses in our street that installed it because of me.
Thank you for recommending us, Robert. Let us know what we can help you with once the tree is cut down. Thanks for the review and your valuable feedback.

We had the panels installed in May 2015. We have not received service to this date. I pulled the information on my home as we were thinking selling it. Vivint puts an interest notice on the property so if we ever attempt to sell it Vivint will be notified and possibly prevent us from selling the house. While we can transfer the panel service to someone else this will decrease our property value and the person must qualify in order for them to use Vivint. WE WERE NOT TOLD THIS... This is terrible. Don't sign up for them or any solar company. You are better off buying your own panels.

One of my favorite things about having Vivint Solar is that it is so simple and easy to understand. Before with Southern California Edison I would get my bill and try to make sense of the charges. It's nearly impossible to do that with SoCal Edison's bills. With Vivint Solar however, it's so clear and simple. After one year of having the panels on my roof I paid Edison $18 and I saved about 36% total. That's pretty good for not having to pay anything for the panels. The only frustrating part of the process is after my panels were installed I had to wait for the city and SoCal Edison approve everything. That's by far the most annoying part of the whole process. I hated getting my Edison bill while I was waiting for them to approve everything. Overall I've been extremely please. My sales associate was great, the installation happened in one day, and now I'm saving $$$.
Glad you are saving money and enjoying your solar! Thanks for your review!

So far, so good with our decision to go solar. Our experience when enrolling with Vivint Solar was very good and a very easy process. Our solar guy, Jake, was great and he always made sure that we knew what was going on and what to expect. He was very honest and we appreciated that. The only problem we had with the whole installation was that the electricians who came on site drove on our lawn. That was the only negative out of the whole thing and Jake wasn't happy with that. We have a long, narrow driveway and there was a car at the end, and instead of parking behind the car, they drove on our lawn, which is my husband's baby, so he was frustrated.
Thank you for the feedback, Stacy. We apologize for the lawn incident. We're glad the rest of your experience was a positive one and we thank you for the review.

The process took about two months because we were waiting on our township to approve some permit. We had a great experience with Vivint Solar. They are very professional all around. I've seen some negative reviews in other states and I was kind of hesitant but we didn't experience any of that. The sales consultant kept us in the loop and met with us a few times. I came to realize that the Internet is overwhelming and we just needed to get this done now because there is no upfront cost.
Besides the fact that it's free to start the solar process we made sure that we went with a company that won't go out of business after the solar credits end in 2016. We are confident that Vivint Solar is the right company seeing how they merged with Sun Edison making them a financially stable organization. Finally, the installation itself was QUICK and they were professional. It only took them about 5 hrs. We got installed in August and we got a notice last week that our panels are approved to be turned on. I recommend doing business with them.

I wish that I never selected this company to put solar on my roof from this company! I signed up for solar back in October 2014 and it is now October 2015. I setup 4 appointments with them to install the panels. My husband and I work full time so I asked my mother to come from CT to be there. Vivint cancelled with me 3 times and it was on the day of install. Not only did they not show respect on people's time but my mother had to come from CT 3 times. 3 times is not a charm for this company. The 4th time they finally showed up, got the panels on the roof, then it took another 3 months to get someone to hook up the electric. Once it was hooked up, it failed inspection due to they put a wire directly on my roof and our town inspector rejected it. Vivint was suppose to come and fix it and then get the inspection done.
2 months later I go to my town hall and they inform me that Vivint has not contacted them to re-inspect the electrical. I call Vivint and they said, "Oh sorry." Now I am the project manager for this and they are making all of the money, really??? Finally I get turned on. Did I say that someone showed up a month later to fix our electrical issue (it was already taken care of). This company has no clue on what they are doing.
So I log into my account and nothing is showing up that I am earning anything from the solar. I call finally and they troubleshoot the issue. It is their equipment that failed. I thought that they were going to monitor their equipment. Did not know that I had to babysit this stuff. I called to speak to someone as I want to be compensated for all of the headaches and crap that my family and I have been through. Was told that a manager would call me back. Yeah right. Not going to hold my breath on that one. If I were you, I would STAY AWAY from Vivint Solar. There are PLENTY of other solar companies out there.

I figured I'd try it too if she couldn't find anything wrong with it, and I'm very satisfied with my decision. It's been a great experience with Vivint. They are very polite and professional. They explain the situation then all I have to do is step back and they take it from there. They initially installed 6-8 panels because that's as much as the breaker box could handle. Then last year, they fixed the breaker box, added more panels and all is well. I save about $400-$500 a year. They're thinking that I can save close to almost 100% with the new panels so that'd be cool. It's great for those who don’t have $10,000 to lay out initially.

The only thing that I was kind of surprised about was that I thought there was gonna be more savings. We entered into escrow with a buyer of one of our Bank owned properties that had a lien for the solar panels. The new buyer wishes to not have them included in the sale and the seller is trying to provide a clear title for the buyer, which is the law. We have tried on several occasion to ordered the removal and in speaking with Vivint Solar, they originally said that this could be accomplished so the buyer agreed to go into escrow based on the solar panel removal.
We now are having a very difficult time in getting cooperation from Vivint Solar. Myself as well as several people from our office, as well as the seller have tried contacted them via Telephone & Email and haven't gotten any response. Every time we call, we have to speak to a new person after holding for 2-3 hrs. and explain the entire situation and they ask for the same paperwork each time, which we send, each time. We are getting nowhere and any attention would be appreciated in these solar panels being removed.
After looking into this customer's account, I see that the panel removal checklist for this account was sent to Asset Management last week. Asset Management is currently reviewing and our Envoy team will work with the customer once Asset Management has given instruction on how to move forward.

Yes, I heard and read a couple more comments that were less than stellar but I made my choice to go with Vivint and have had excellent service. The time from install to when PG&E and local inspectors said it was ok to turn on did take 2 months but my rep told me that would be the longest part of the process.

I am very satisfied with my decision to go solar. Initially, I looked into it to save some money and also help the economy. When I enrolled with Vivint Solar it was very easy and they handled everything so I didn't do a thing. Their CS was very courteous and helpful. Everything was explained in detail and it showed where I could help the environment as well as save some money.
Glad to hear you had a great experience. Thanks for the review, Frank.

I contracted with Vivint Solar on 13 August 2015. The Solar Panels and other peripherals were installed very quickly. However during the install in August, I was told that my electrical panel needed to be upgraded to accommodate the system. It has been three months since the installation of the solar panels and I still haven't seen or heard from any electrician. I find this to be ridiculous that Vivint can't get a qualified Electrician to upgrade the panel. I have discussed this with my Vivint Account Manager on several occasions, and all I can get from him is they are waiting on the third party contractor to respond and after three months, I find this to be totally unacceptable...

Responsiveness is outstanding up to the point where you get your panels, which not so ironically is tied to the cancellation policy. Once installation is set you are in for a long ride, where if you don't manage and push to get fully installed, good luck because service disappears. You would think on final setup they would check to make sure everything is working properly, well they didn't. When I called them and tried to troubleshoot I needed to set a Sat appt, and confirmed an 8am to 11am appt. Since they didn't call me to confirm the appt, I called them and they confirmed my appt time from 2pm to 5pm. Stay away from them, it's definitely not worth the aggravation.

We had our initial consultation with Vivint back in march. The panels were put up in late May early June and all of this went smoothly. Now here we are in mid November and they still are not turned on. I have contacted our sales rep Eric ** several times and he has been very responsive in making excuses for Vivint. The testing is what I am told had to be redone and it will be soon. 2 weeks ago I received a call saying all tests were complete and now it is in the electric company's hands, it should be 7-10 days. OK, so what now? This is draining. To boot, my neighbors got solar through vivint after me and they have been on for a few months already.

I just want to say that I was a little skeptical about Vivint after reading some of the reviews online. I have a cousin in California who said they have it and they love it. Amy ** is amazing. She is so informative and knowledgeable and could answer every question we had for her and my husband had plenty. We decided to have it installed. AMAZING. Every step of the way I knew where we were and how things were going. The day of the install the workman and everyone was so nice and friendly, efficient etc. When the job was completed they cleaned up so good you couldn't even tell I had workman there - unlike other companies I've dealt with. I would HIGHLY recommend Vivint/Go Solar to everyone. Besides the fact of being better for the environment who doesn't want to save on their power bill. Certainly the 500.00 a year savings on my bill will be better spent somewhere else! Everyone who can should Go Solar!

Vivint convinced us to contract with them for leased solar for our home. The experts they have failed to note that my home circuit system did not meet code standards to run the solar panels and needed to be changed out until after they installed panels on my roof. The panels have been on my roof over a year, but they never upgraded the circuit panel, never had an inspection and consequently have had no solar benefit for over a year. I have had it over a year and have had no benefit, the job was never completed. I followed up with them a few times and they still did not finish the installation. Since they breached the contract by failing to complete their performance, I asked them to remove the system or walk away and remove their lien on my home.
I sent two letters, certified mail, telling them the two possible options. They ignored both letters and are now calling. When I tell them that I sent letters they say they never received them. Interesting because the tracking system shows they were received. They claim to have a call log of time they tried to reach me. This is news to me, and obviously they did not try too hard as the only conversation I had with them were the ones initiated by me, until the last couple of months in which calls are made to me shortly after the letters were sent.
Anyway, they say I have to let them finish the work. No I don't. They failed to complete their contract. I have no desire to have any continued business with Vivint. Have no doubt they took the government credit and for the past year I have continued to pay my full PG&E bills. The only result here is for them to take their equipment and replace my roof or walk away from the equipment and let me finish the job. Their choice. Either way they must remove the lien from my home.
Thanks for informing us of this, Richard. We're sorry to hear about your experience. Blaine from our Resolution Management team is looking into this and will work with your CSM, Taylor, and both of them will help move towards a resolution. Just to reassure you, we do not place liens on homes. When you are installed as a customer we file non-lien UCC paperwork or, in your case since you live in California, a "Notice of Ownership" to show that we as a company have ownership of the system only. Blaine and Taylor can help if you have had any issues with this. They will be in contact with you. Thanks again!

San Diego, CA - This is getting 3 stars because I am feeling generous and want to so Vivint pull their collective heads out of you-know-where and get this going right. We're (finally) up and running, and now that the painful installation process is done, I have only very minor complaints. Namely, the billing system is very limited, and I have no way to get any detailed reports on what my system is producing other than looking at what it's producing right this minute. I have to call customer service to get any kind of daily, weekly or monthly production numbers.
Purchase - this part went fine, but only because we asked a ton of questions, read ALL the fine print, and researched the heck out of everything before we signed. The sales guy was nice and informative, but he did not have a lot of knowledge about the legal side. In fact, he gave us the wrong answer to what happens when we sell the house, and I had to educate him by showing him in the contract where it addresses that. The contract we signed did not fully address transfer of ownership, just that it was possible. It did not spell out (and he did not know) that if you sell the house and the new owner does not voluntarily take over the Vivint contract, you are still legally obligated to pay for the solar production regardless.
He was completely unaware that when selling the house, the seller needs to put the assumption of the solar contract as a contingency on the sale to ensure that the buyer is legally obligated to take over the 20 year PPA. He wasn't terribly educated on what a PPA even was. The only reason I know is that I worked for a large-scale solar company at the time. The average consumer would be hard pressed come away from this process adequately informed or prepared with the proper knowledge on how to sell their house or manage the contract.
Design - Double and triple check their design! They did not adequately estimate our electrical use, and we had to send them back to the drawing board several times. They ended up needing to add a whole second set of panels on our garage to meet our needs. The guy they had come estimate it did some very weird math that the average 5th grader could have improved on. Don't assume at any point that the person advising you knows their stuff - double check everything.
Installation - boy, what a nightmare. They had to come out at least 3 times to fix their own work, and each time anything went wrong it was 3-4 weeks until the next appointment. They repeatedly told me they were going to call and schedule the next action item, and I wouldn't ever hear back from them. After more than 6 months of waiting for them to get this done, I took over the role of project manager and managed the Vivint staff and installation crews, and played go-between with the city to make sure inspections happened. The staff seemed relieved to have someone driving the bus and keeping track of tasks. They were wholly incapable of driving this project themselves. At the very end of our installation process, when I had all the final steps scheduled, we did get a new account manager who helped drive it over the finish line. It was too little too late, but I hope it means they are getting their act together a little, at least in CA.
PROSPECTIVE BUYERS - Do your homework, and be ready and willing to take charge of the *entire* process. A PPA is a great model and will save you money over the long run, but do not go into this without knowing 1) all of the steps involved in installation, 2) the name and number of the city inspector's office so you can call yourself, 3) exactly how this contract affects the sale of your property in the future. Have a solid understanding of your electrical use through the entire year, and when they size your system, do the math to make sure it's not too big or too small. Remember, you pay for everything it generates, whether you use it or not!

Ive had 4 "final" inspections, electric panels left open with the guard plates off exposing the wires. Ive been in contact with the manager who sold me on this and the corporate rep and all I have gotten to this point is apologies and more false promises. Even the city inspector stated Vivint has had excessive complaints (he's been out 3 of the 4 times for "final inspection). When all this started (5 months ago) the Vivint rep wanted me to be a spokesman for them to help them sell their product, well, I'm a spokesman alright. If I had to do it again, I'd rather had never heard of Vivint. I shudder to think they will be on my roof for years. The worst!

On March 12, 2015, we welcomed Vivint Solar Area Manager Taylor ** to our home. Taylor explained the benefits of solar power and the Power Purchase Agreement. We also discussed the benefits of locking-in our electricity cost at $0.15/kilowatt-hour for 20 years. With all of our questions answered, we signed the contract with absolutely no money out-of-pocket. On March 17th, Vivint engineers completed a site survey at our home, and on Saturday, April 4th, a team of Vivint technicians expertly installed our solar panels. They completed the entire installation in less than 2-1/2hours, and they left our property as clean as they found it. The panels began producing power that same day, and on May 13, 2015, the city inspector performed the final inspection.
The entire process, from signing the contract to receiving permission to operate, was effortless for us because Vivint handled all the details. Also, Taylor checked in with us each week to provide updates, and he frequently stopped by our home just to say "hello". We have complete confidence in Vivint Solar, and we are proud to have brand new Vivint solar panels on our roof. It's amazing to think that the sun is completely powering our home! Since installation, our 17 solar panels have generated over four megawatt-hours of energy! We recommend that you call Vivint Solar today. Solar panels will definitely help your pocketbook, the environment, and the economy!

We had our system installed in Connecticut in August/September. Our inspection from the local municipality was scheduled for today. Yesterday we received a message from our Vivint Solar representative that the inspection needed to be cancelled because of a funding issues with the State Energy Program. This is not an issue that should prevent the system from being inspected. The local energy supplier stated the problem was not with them. The Energize CT program said that the contractors are to get approval for the system prior to work and that for every two approvals one system is installed. We have done our due diligence, signed a binding contract and agreement for the lease of the solar panels. Vivint stated that there is some difficulty in part due to the fact they are an out of state, multi-state installer. Ironically a neighbor who had his system installed after ours had his inspection today.
Hi, Kevin. After reading your review we made some efforts on our end to do all we could to move your account forward. We were waiting on several approvals and kept following up on those until we could proceed. We're happy that those approvals were made and that we got things taken care of. On 05/30/2016 I filed a new review with Consumer Affairs citing some new issues but also restating the lack of action from the initial complaint. Be aware Vivint Solar has the worst customer service I have tried. I bought a house in Aug this year. The first issue I have is that the former owner disconnected the internet so Vivint can't get readings or see the system and I found out this issue two weeks later. According to the contract they monitor the system 24/7 but the system was out of their radar for more than two weeks and they did not notice that. When I called them, one of their rep told me that they will only notice this when they will generate the bill so 24/7 is a false statement.
Also this condition is unsafe since a malfunction panel could cause fire or other damage to the electronics in your house. Then I asked them how I can know how much I have to pay for the few days I'm responsible in August they told me that there is no way for them to verify because the internet was down so the bill will be estimated which is very unfair. They always promise to return calls but never done. I spent more than five hours (many calls) on the phone to finally get someone in my house to connect the system to the internet. According to them, they can get readings from the system now but it has passed two months and I haven't been able to access my account oh but already get bills. They are charging me but I could not verify any reading although the system is already connected to internet.
Last week, I spent another 58 minutes on the phone trying to resolve my access account issues. I spoke with 5 different people that day and nothing was resolved but the last rep promised me that will call me because they already know how to fix it so as soon it is fixed they will notify me. More than a week later I haven't received any call yet and I could not set up my account yet. I'm not sure if there is anything I can do to remove those panels from my house. Please do not use Vivint Solar for your panels.

In April 2014 I was approached by a salesman of Vivint Solar. He presented an outstanding offer of energy at $0.15/kwh from solar panels placed on my roof! Not only that, but I would have full monitoring capabilities through the Enphase monitoring system. They would warranty the roof under the system for the term of the contract, and bill me for the actual energy produced in the prior month. The Enphase system can only be monitored by them, is used for billing, and is not certified for revenue generation. Not that they use that information anyway, they removed their system 3 months ago and are still billing me monthly for the energy the system is producing.
The roof leaked under the system and the "Damage Resolution Department" informed me that the contract covers only the "penetrations", and that they had pictures of the "degraded felt" prior to the install. To remove the system to make repairs to the roof, the contract requires a fee of $500 for the removal and storage of the system. If the system is not reinstalled within 2 months, you pay them based on projected power production. The first attempt to remove the system, they did not bring materials to replace the missing tiles caused by the installation, so rescheduled and left, with freshly cut, still energized wires laying on the roof. Once they finally removed the panels from the roof, they left me with over 250 broken tiles, with a tear in the felt under each. $30,000 damage to the roof, trusses, insulation and ceiling, including the mold remediation.
Hi Trip. I can see that our damage resolution team has been working with you on reaching a solution. We will do what we can to help move this process forward, but currently we see that you declined our offer to pay for half of the roof replacement as well as our goodwill offer. I qualified for over a 7kW system and, though there have been problems with my electrical system for years, they put in a brand new 200 amp panel, 50 breakers, and a brand new bar, all copper. I am impressed. Price tag on the electrical upgrade was over $1,800 in itself and I am saving over a thousand a year. The rep was honest in letting me know the install time frame could take 6 months to a year and that the savings would be on a yearly basis - we are over-generating in the summer months to cover us through the winter, and we pay for power when it is produced. All in all I am happy to be part of the solution and happy to save money on my bill year after year.

This means that our panels have not been working the entire time they've been on our roof and we had no way of knowing. I talked to Tech Support and they confirmed that the panels have not been producing and that it is our responsibility to ensure that they are working and I'm supposed to do that using the website I already mentioned. They are not responsible, according to tech support, to ensure the product we have been paying for over the past year is working properly.
I was also told, by tech support, that local electricity companies automatically put you on a yearly billing cycle so when I was getting nothing but tax bills from the electric company, there was again nothing to warn me that my panels weren't working. I didn't read my bills... Why should I? I had solar panels that I thought were providing all my energy and I had to pay state taxes so there was no reason to read my bill. If my bill had come through the first month and been it's regular amount I would have questioned Vivint Solar a year ago. I was recommending solar panels to everyone I knew, not going to happen again. Especially to a company that takes absolutely no responsibility for their product.

We have a Spanish tile roof which had solar panels installed on one side to heat the pool. This was done by another company with no problem. Vivint installed on the other side and damage or broke over 100 tiles. It took them two months to get someone out to do the repair. Now we had our first good rain 3 weeks ago. At 3 am the smoke detectors went off. Water was coming down from the attic through the smoke detectors and flooding the one bedroom. Vivint sent some of their crew out and it was determined the roof of the house where the panels had been installed was leaking.
This house is 1 1/2 years old. It has now been 3 weeks and after repeated calls NOTHING is being done except they threw a tarp over the section of the roof that was leaking. We had to turn off the circuit for our hardwired smoke detectors and the electricity for that room. I tried to contact someone other than the local rep and cannot get through to anyone at corporate. Next stop is TV and Better Business Bureau and then a lawyer.
Hi Catherine. Just checking in. Our damage resolution team said they had a contractor (who is a third party contractor that originally fixed the damage) out last week to see what happened. We haven't been able to reach the contractor yet but we did not want you sitting with a roof leak so we reached out to another contractor in the area who was assessing your home on 9/29 and we were informed that this contractor will most likely be replacing the felt underlayment. We also had a Vivint Solar crew out that same day to inspect the electrical work to make sure everything is in good condition. The damage resolutions team will be speaking with you frequently to make sure this is resolved quickly. If things are not progressing or if you have any other questions, please let us know!

Solar Panels were installed around mid-July; electrical installed on August 3; received permission of installation from local energy provider. As on September 22, Solar power has not been turn on by Vivint Solar and have contacted them on several occasions and promised someone would contact us on Solar status. No word yet and still paying electricity instead of solar power. I wished I had never agreed in having this system to be installed. Looks good on the roof!
Glad we could help, Richard! We quickly replaced the electric meter with a Solar meter and the utility box is now functioning. Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you!

Installation was fast, technicians were great. Just had to wait for the County and APS electric company to do their inspections which took about 2 months. We received emails from APS to tell us installations are set up and we were approved. We called Vivint and were emailed the information to flip the switch. We thought all was turned on for the last 35 days until we received our first APS bill which was over $600. APS said they didn't receive any power from our solar system.
We called Vivint technical support. They emailed us the confirmation of flipping the switch which my husband properly did 35 days ago. Vivint had to send a service person out the next day, which was pretty fast. Turns out Vivint never flipped their own breakers to turn the system on. This wasn't even in the start your system information. Now why didn't they have an alert to let us know something wasn't working since they are connected to our system? If they are in the solar business wouldn't one think they want to make sure everything is working? Pretty disappointed in the start up. We shall see how this goes when our next bill comes in.

It all started out by having a sales rep come by on the 13th of August going door to door and pitching what they had to offer, sounded good, so I decide to give it a shot. Two days later someone comes out to do a layout design and measurements. This guy that comes out and measures, tells me sometimes some homes need to have a circuit panel upgrade, but my system won't need one. Didn't know what the need was to inform me on that if I didn't need it. Within a few days they are trying to get you to sign a contract, the person that came by wasn't even the original guy I talk too. I had a bunch of questions, he kind of indirectly try not to give me a straight answer to them.
They somewhat rush the process to get the panels on the roof so once that's done, so are you meaning you're in contract with them now. I kept asking if I sign will I be stuck in a contract. He said I had three days to cancel or as stated on the paperwork I can cancel before any work was to be perform. After going back and forth, he tells me either sign or stop wasting both of our time. So I sign knowing I had time to cancel if I still wasn't 100% on this. Then he pulls out a paper from pg&e saying I give them permission to hook up to the circuit breaker box, but the pg&e account is in my girlfriend's name and so is the paperwork. He then tells me go ahead and sign her name, it's ok.
Another week goes by, then On the 26th of August I get a call from a local electrical company that they have work orders to upgrade my circuit panel, I told them to hold off on that. I haven't heard from Vivint that things have changed from the initial survey. Then On the 28th I get an email saying on the 31st of August my panels were going to be installed, no phone call was made about the install or me canceling the panel upgrade. So after not being inform, and not properly contact about the install date I decide I'm going to cancel with this. I didn't like how it was being handled. I sent an email out the night of the 28th saying I was walking away and didn't want to go forward with solar anymore. I called the sales rep that came by to start this whole process and let him know I was done with it.
Somehow, people at Vivint don't communicate with each other, on Monday the 31st they were at my door ready to install the panels. My girlfriend gave them the ok and sign off on the paperwork, even after I had told her I wasn't going through with it. I got home from work and took a look around, apparently there is no job site standards for this company. They left wiring clippings, metal shaving, pieces of shingles and cigarette butts all over the ground where they setup the ladders at. On top of the roof was a bunch of epoxy gobs and smear marks, I reached out to the sales rep again and he said he would have it taking care of.
On the 3rd of September someone comes out and looks around. I already cleaned up the mess, but he gets on the roof and says the gobs of epoxy are supposed to be there from the patching they did. No one ever inform me that they would be randomly putting holes in my roof to secure themselves. Then today September 14th a wiring crew comes out to do some work, didn't mention they would be putting a hole in my wall right under my circuit panel. They patch the hole with some white stucco patch, but my house is a light brown in color. Smearing the patch on the panel box and on the wall, leaving it looking like my kids did the work.
What set me off about today's work is whoever made the patch mix got some on my wall near the water faucet. I just re-stucco my house two years ago and now I got these guys destroying my walls and leaving color marks that stand out on my dark walls. Soon as I seen that I called the sales rep and left a message, I took pictures and email it to him. Haven't heard from him yet.
We're sorry to hear about this experience, Chris. We'd like to look into your account and see how we can help. Can we reach out to you directly?

Despite our salesman misleading us throughout the process with regards to billing and warranty, we still are getting the short end of the stick five months later. We started the whole process in November 2014 and finally received the go-ahead to turn on the panels in April 2015. I turn the switch, only to find out in September 2015 that the Vivint technician who was supposed to flip all of the breakers after the final inspection never did. I have been getting billed by PSEG and Vivint since June without my panels even working.
Do you think Vivint called me to say, "we have been giving you estimated bills for the past four months, something must be wrong with your system..." No. Instead I call them to see what the hell is going on and their tech says, "WOW, this is ridiculous. The inspector should have flipped these all on. I can't believe no one called you." So, for four months, with non-working panels on my roof, I have been double billed. Now Vivint says they will credit me my money back for those months... no, duh. What about the money I lost during this time paying PSEG? Wasn't the whole point of this to save money for the term of my contract?
I am almost a year into it and have only just began using my panels. When asked how this would be fixed, the customer service rep, Tyler #**, says, and I quote, "This is what is going to happen (Are you ** kidding me Tyler). We are going to reimburse the money we should not have taken and you are going to continue to pay the 13.5 cent rate. We are not going to extend the rate period, nor are we going to reimburse you for anything you spent on PSEG." "Supervisor please, Tyler." Tyler: "I don't have a supervisor here." Now that is customer service. If this isn't a fundamental breach of contract, I don't know what is. I will be pursuing legal action if this situation is not remedied quickly.

Wow, what a great experience I had with Vivint Solar. I met my salesperson Bryan ** in San Jose. I told him I was thinking about Solar on my house but was skeptical on the PPA. I was really concerned about the 20-yr contract and my HOA not allowing me to maximize the space on my roof. He explained to me there would be no upfront fees and they maintain the system. Only expenses would be to pay them for the power I generate with my system at .15cents/KW. Ooh yeah, if I needed to take down the panels for any reason, it would cost me to do so.
I set up an appointment for a contractor to go on the roof to do a survey. He did his job well. He did not break any clay tiles and did not make a mess. Approx. 3 days later, Bryan called me to go over the survey. He said everything looked good. The system they recommended was 7.2Kw 28 panels with a 98 percent offset. PGE recommended my system be between 5-6kw system.
I advised Bryan everything looked good, but he would have to deal with my HOA, permits, and PGE. Bryan was on it the whole process. Bryan did an outstanding job. Everything went smooth and he kept me updated throughout the whole process. My system was installed on Aug. 15th, 2015 and electrical 8/17. Today is Sept 12 and I received a call yesterday stating I'm up and running. Making it less than a month to get permission to operate.
The workers were very clean during the install and explained the digital panel installed on my house. I would recommend Vivint to my friends/family. I few of my neighbors are going through the process. As a customer please do your research. There is a lot of info thrown at you. Make sure you understand everything. I even had Bryan take me to a few customers/houses where Vivint was installed. I looked at the customers' bills and looked at their setup. I was impressed. PGE is raising their rates. I want to produce my own power and save. Like everyone should do I did my research.
1. Contacted PGE to see if Vivint was a service they did business within the Bay Area. They were doing business with them. They told me to make sure I received a system that would produce enough energy to offset my PGE bill. They even recommended my system size based on my yearly usage.
2. Read reviews on Yelp and BBB. Some reviews were good and others were not. (Most complaints were about how long it takes to get solar activated once installed)
3. Go check out other installs.
4. If you sell your house, new buyer has to agree on Vivint services.
5. Call your local city permits unit to make sure they received paperwork from Vivint and the same with local energy Co.. Be a detective and investigate. Whenver you invest in something, make sure what people are telling you is true. INVESTIGATE!
Thank you for this detailed review. Very helpful information here. Glad to hear you had a great experience! Thank you for taking the time to share!

Everything happened fast from installation (31 panels) to the county inspection on 6/4/15. Then nothing. After calling since that time and being told the paperwork was with PG&E and the delay was their problem, I still have no solar completion and the unit has never been turned on nor have I been contacted as to what the delay and problem is. I did contact PG&E solar department and was told there had been no filing of paperwork by Vivint. Now it is mid-September and still no reply or resolution.
Hi Kaye. We read your review and contacted the regional manager of your area to help address your account specifically. We had an experienced salesman solicit our family and we had several meetings with him in our home to be certain this company was what they said they were... upstanding. However, after signing the contract everything went to hell! We had numerous miscommunications between our salesman, his management and the installation crew. My husband took off of work to meet with roof crews who cancelled or didn't show up and one day an unscheduled crew showed up and said their boss sent them by because they didn't have anything scheduled and they could do some stuff if I wanted them to. What? We have three protective dogs to manage in the yard and a busy schedule and It was so unprofessional for someone to show up on my doorstep and expect to go up on our roof without an appointment.
About 5 weeks after the initial sales spiel the company sent someone to take pictures in our attic and to do a comprehensive on site print-out report of our roof by accessing it to see where the solar panels should be placed for the best return. We have a 25 year old tile roof and were assured from our salesman that if any tiles were destroyed by them that they would be responsible for their replacement. Two years ago we had some gutter work done and afterwards had a reputable roofer check out our roof at which time he discovered 4 broken tiles and the gutter contractor paid for the repair. No one has been on our roof since then.
Moving forward, Vivint came and had several guys on our roof and they trampled it. My husband politely questioned one of their heavier employees as to if he was going on the roof because he felt the tiles would be at risk. Well the day of the install the employee they sent out to hook up the panel to our electrical/internet cable box couldn't figure it out and my husband had to come home from work and help him with our internet and with IT issues calling Comcast to help out.
Now 8 weeks into this we we're still waiting to get up and running. My husband called the roofer and coordinated the appointment along with Vivint Solar to access our roof and assess any damage. The roofing company discovered 64 out of 105 tiles on our roof had been broken by Vivint employees. There is $3,200 in damage and Vivint is questioning if they did this damage or if they can cover this damage? Seriously? Now we are in a battle with this company and have all these solar panels stacked up on the side of our house in the dog run waiting to have our roof repaired before El Niño begins. Lawsuit? Hope not. This company better make good on their word and contract or they'll be history in the up and surging Solar market.
Hi, Susan. We got confirmation that your preferred contractor did the repairs and we reimbursed you for the estimate you sent us. We're glad this was resolved and hopefully was done to your satisfaction. Please reach out to us with any other questions or concerns. Thank you!

We have been using our solar for about 6 months now. Before going with Vivint, my husband did his research and checking Consumer Affairs was one of the things he did. He found that when someone left a negative comment, that it was addressed and dealt with, not ignored. I will tell you it did take a while from the time we signed up until we were finally up and running. This was not totally a Vivint problem. The problem stems from an industry that grew very quickly in our area, and so there were lots of people getting the panels put on, so we waited for that.
The next item was to get the city inspectors to come out and check it. This will vary city to city by how many people your local city has to do the job. These are the same people who check your patio addition or your bedroom addition or your pool, they have a full slate and they got slammed with tons of solar. Our city has (or at least had) only one guy doing solar, and he could only do some many a day.
The third delay came from our power company. Edison (our local power company) has to "switch" you over that that can take over a month before things are up. They took their time. (Also, watch yourself because they [Edison] had that we were going solar, they had stopped billing us before we were up and running, then several months later we a HUGE bill and they acted like we should have paid it instantly, cut us off and wanted a HUGE deposit. After talking with the Edison guy for a VERY long time, I finally got them to drop the deposit as we didn't have large bills anymore and has a good history of payment, anyway...)
It was a very long time to get totally up and running, but we have been pleased with the results. When I am done with the year, I will figure out my exact savings, but I know I was paying $189/mo on an even pay plan and now I have paid between $55 and $108 depending on weather. So even our hottest month was only $108, and would have been closer to $400 if we hadn't have been on the even pay plan.
I hope this will help some of you understand why it takes so long to get going and help you be patient. Vivint has done everything they said they would. The system has had no problems. Communication has not always been easy. I wish I had a number I could call and ask questions of but all and all, we are glad we made the decision to go solar, and glad we went with Vivint.
Great to hear this feedback! Thank you for the review and thank you for going green with us!

This was my bad experience with Vivint. I was contacted Wednesday 9/2 by my salesman (Cliff) that the install date would be Friday 9/4. Told him I wanted to be home. He said I didn't have to be during the install, only for the electrical connection. I said, "No, I wanted to be home." The salesman (Cliff) said the crew would begin at 1:00 pm, and that I would be home for them to connect to panel box in the later afternoon. First mistake they arrived at 8:30 am. The installer said he was never told of the later start. I reluctantly allowed them to commence work when they called me. I was told that they would still be there in the afternoon. I left work early and arrived home by 1:00 pm. They were done except for the electrical crew. I asked who the electrician was. The employees told me he left as he had a medical issue. Hmmm. No electrician on the job.
Second mistake. They must have the professional electrician show up, get the workers started and then he moves on. When I did a walk around, I noticed a 4' curved pvc conduit running across my front roof line. It was visible from the front of the house and was a result of shoddy inexperienced workmanship as a professional would never had run the pipe like that. I asked if this ugly unsightly curved pipe could be moved 20-30 inches over so we would not see it from the front of the house as the salesman promised. The "mouthpiece" said it could not be moved. I asked, "Can it not be moved or are you just in a rush to finish?" This young man replied, "What do you expect for nothing?" I asked him to explain. He said, he hates... Yes he said hates people who get a system for free and then complain. He said to me "Why do old men think they know everything?"
I told him to leave my property. He refused. He said "I can't help it when a salesman lies to customer" and "The salesmen have no clue what they are talking about". I then told him I would have the police remove him from my property. He then threatened to meet with me when the installation was complete. I told the crew to pack up and leave. I then spoke to the salesman who told me I would not see anything from the front of the house. He said it was "code". The pipe could have been easily been moved 20-30 inches over out of sight, but these unprofessional and certainly NOT electricians. I would not recommend these so called professionals to anyone. Be careful... Worst experience with contractors I have ever had in my forty years of home ownership.
Updated on 09/19/2015: It was only after I posted on this site did a Vivint Customer Service rep from Utah contact me. She was very nice. However, the panels were installed improperly on my home almost 3 weeks ago. I was not satisfied with the unprofessional installation job. I asked to speak to a supervisor from the local Long Island office. To this day, 3 weeks later, I have not received a call from "Mike". Utah set up a date to have a new crew come over to correct the issues, which included unsecured pieces left on my roof, PVC piping looped over the peak of my roof that was not in the CAD drawing, and panel fasteners not tightened.
Well, the appointment was for 8:30 am this Saturday morning, and it is after 10:03 am. No show and no calls. I had reached out to the local office to confirm today's appointment on Friday but never reached anyone other than a voicemail box. Emailed and left messages for my rep in Utah, also no response. Please be very wary dealing with this company, especially the Long Island office. They have absolutely no customer service skills.

There's never enough honest and positive reviews online about businesses or products, so I thought I would share my experience. From the day our rep came to our door, we were completely skeptical, however I did my research and read the contract. Being fully aware of how the company works and how they make money helped me understand how I can save money. Anyone with common knowledge knows if you buy your solar you can sell your SRECs but that wasn't my intentions with going solar. I simply wanted a worry free system and to save money going green. That all said, our rep Mike explained the process and as simple as it sounded was set up and running just as simply. The one month wait time we had was with the township submitting our PTO to Vivint which I was emailed a copy of for verification. So what you've all been curious about is what kind of savings are provided?
For the month of August we ran our house as we always would and AC was set consistently at 73. Avg temp outside was 87 degrees. We have 15 panels installed. Typically a normal bill would consist of 100-150 this time of year for our sq ft house, however we produced 240 kwh, meaning we pay Vivint 24 dollars. .10 a kwh then whatever balance there is from what was used we pay our service provider. That happened to be 21 dollars, for a grand total of 45 dollars. I couldn't get an electric bill like this in the winter if I tried and now we are doing it in the middles of summer. So for all the naysayers I strongly advise you to either read your contract or understand the process that goes into activation included but not limited to your township. Vivint has truly done a great job and I'm proud to be using a quality product.
Glad to hear about your experience, Marty! Thank you for writing a review!

Barbara, a door-to-door energy consultant, came by my house on April 17th with her sales pitch for solar panels. After grilling her on what the benefits would be and why I should go with Vivint Solar, I was convinced enough that this wasn't a scam and signed contract paperwork. An installer came by on June 4th and took of the home, including my electric panel, which is located behind a kitchen cabinet near my kitchen sink (it's an old house). Installation was set for June 25th, requiring I take time out of work.
When the installers came, they took a look at my electric panel and said due to the location of the electric panel, they didn't think they could do the install and would need to contact their office, and the town's electrical inspector would have to approve the install. Then I didn't hear anything again until July 17th when Barbara texted me to tell me the install was a go. I agreed to July 27th, taking another day out of work. The installation crew arrived. I opened up the electrical panel and they said they couldn't do the install. They had no knowledge of the previous install attempt. They contacted their office and somehow my case was "released" in their system, indicating it was ok for installation.
After they left I called Barbara. She blamed everything on the town electrical inspector. She said she'd get back to me. I didn't hear anything again until I called her on 8/24. She said she still had heard nothing and the inspector was avoiding her. On 8/31 I went to our town hall and obtained emails the town inspector received from Vivint Solar July 8th, asking if it was ok to install the panels, with a reply from the inspector to Vivint on July 13th stating that no, the box would have to be moved.
I called Barbara, quite furious with the company's lack of communication and her poor customer service. She told me she'd contact her office immediately and get back to me by the end of the day. I asked her to keep me informed as to the status. She never did. I called her today, and she stated she hasn't heard anything from her office. I asked her for copies of the emails and her bosses contact information, and she refused both. She said that the office was busy and I wasn't the only customer. She then stated she had to go and hung up on me. She later texted me and said she sent an email escalating my issue to their electrical service team. I am ok with them moving the electrical panel. I texted her and told her to keep me informed, but I doubt I'll hear from her. I am completely frustrated with Vivint Solar and will not recommend them to anyone.

We just celebrated our one year anniversary of signing up with Vivint Solar! The only problem is the system is just sitting there DOING NOTHING. The panels have been up for 5 months, the electrical contractor finished 3 months ago. No one calls back, no one answers emails and we have no recourse that we know of. The guy that signed us up (long since gone) assured us it would be up and running in 8-10 weeks and we would be saving $200.00 per month!

So my husband and I decided we were going to go solar. We did our research and spoke with 4 different solar companies that service our area. Vivint Solar was who we ended up going with. And we went around and around with them all to get educated. Now that we are finally up and running I'm very happy. The rep told us it would be 4-6 months total before we'd be up and running and man was he right. It's kind of crazy and in the process I will admit I doubted we made the right choice, but our choice was educated... best rate per kilowatt, great honesty and response from the rep... Installation crew was professional and nice. The waiting for the meter switch was out of their hands although I still think Vivint has room in their operations to streamline the process... Only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars.. because honestly once they have you up and running the savings and knowing we are helping the environment.
It's great to read about your experience, Erica. Thanks for posting a review. We are happy to hear you are now enjoying the benefits of solar!

I signed up with Vivint Solar through my alarm company (Vivint) with the promise that all installation and hardware would be covered and free due to it being a government backed program. Apparently I was misinformed. I was told that my electricity bills would be lower, they are not. I called Vivint customer service and spoke to Mike #**, upon answering my call I asked him his last name to verify who I was speaking to; he refused. I then asked him if I could speak to a supervisor or manager, again he refused stating that he was in charge. I requested to at least have a paper bill sent to my residence so I could visually verify what I was being charged for, he again refused stating the company only sends out email billing. Lastly I requested that Vivint stop the auto billing process, that request was denied as well.

We were fine with things, it was as if we were paying for a service but the more time went by the more we were getting dissatisfied with the lack of communication and discovery of contractors gaining access without us being appraised or asked if it was ok. We found out more from SDG&E by ourselves than we did from Vivint with respect to appointments and activation. We finally it's all a going and we get our first Bill, an unexpected large one. Upon review of the contract we come to learn that we pay for what we produce, not what we use. This never once came up and it so for anyone else looking to find out if they should go with Vivint, I will say this, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

On 5/2/15 we signed the agreement. While waiting for the panel design, we had time to get the roof re-shingled. On 6/25/15, I took the day off from work for the panels to be installed. On that day, the electricians that hooked up the panels did not know how to "turn it on". A couple days later, and another day off, another electrician came out to turn it on. We were told at that point we need to wait to see how it is running for a week and then the inspectors will come out.
We got a call about a week and half later, saying that our panels are operating sporadically. It was found the inside box was hooked up to a light switch controlled outlet and that problem was fixed immediately. We were to expect approx. another week delay to be able to monitor the activity. Another week later, we receive a call from Michigan saying they need to schedule our "electrical finish". Even though I explained that we seemed to have been hooked up already, they insisted there is another step to the electrical. I was scheduled for SEPT 9!!
After contacting my salesman and the operations manager and telling them of my phone call and appt. day, they could not tell me why I needed this. I called Michigan back to ask again what this "electrical finish" is. I asked, if my electric isn't finished yet, how could they tell it was running sporadically several weeks ago? Finally, Michigan agreed that appt. was not needed and we need inspections from the city and Vivint. Within a couple weeks, I took another day, those inspections were completed and we were told we are just waiting on National Grid to come out and change out the meter.
After waiting several weeks, I made a phone call to National Grid to find out what the hold up is. They have not received their orders yet. I contacted Vivint only to find out that they are waiting for the electrical paperwork to arrive. Apparently, no one can find the original paperwork to show that our electrical is hooked up. So I took yet another day off so that someone could take pictures of the electrical work outside and inside. Then after another wait, someone had to come back and take just one more picture. After waiting, again, I called to find out why National Grid is not aware of us yet and I was told Vivint is waiting for approval from their "partners". Of course, every call I make, I end up talking to someone in Utah, not Massachusetts. I have asked to be called back by someone in Mass. who can tell me why I am not hooked up yet.
Today, August 21,2015, I called to see what is happening and now I am told they are also waiting for the electrical CAD design, and then after that they need to get approval from the "partners". This is the first time the CAD design has come up. I asked what happens if the "partners" do not approve, and the woman told me," we try to get other partners' funding." Isn't this something that should be lined up prior to putting panels on my house? Anyway, it is now just about four months since Vivint has started this process, 2 months since panels have been on my house, and still NO IDEA how much longer before I can use them.
Robert--We had Tanner call you to clear up some confusion and help move your account along. He explained to you how the funding works and your account is now waiting on utility inspection and then you'll receive PTO. Let us know if there are any outstanding questions or concerns. Thanks for reaching out to us!

Before having panels installed, ask for a time for getting on their grid. I have been waiting almost 3 months now, have called company with no results, and still on National Grid's power.
Ted--We see that you reached PTO last week! Congrats! Glad we could offer some assistance. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns we can help with. Thanks!

The Vivint Solar rep came to my house and told me that his company would install solar energy panels on the roof of my house at no cost to me. It sounded too good to be true, but other people in the area had used them and said that their electricity bills had gone down the first month they were turned on. I was very angry that our utility provider is one of the biggest polluters in the region and the primary target of environmentalists because they burn coal, which is the worst fuel there is. Solar had to be better, and since I would continue to be connected to the utility, there was no risk if they failed. It did take four months to finish the installation, but Vivint seemed to do their part very quickly. The panels were installed on my roof in one day, and the delay seemed to be waiting for permits from the regulating agencies.
I have had the panels for a year and I am very happy. The energy savings are almost exactly what Vivint said they would be. My neighbors who have houses covered by trees are a bit jealous that they can't get solar panels on their house. I tell them to trim their trees back to make solar work because I think it is important that everybody get solar. I thought I should write a review because there are so many negative complaints on this site and some of them are from people who say their solar panels are saving them money. I don't understand why people tear down a company that is doing so much to help the environment. Everybody should go solar in my opinion. It is important that we do whatever we can to save the planet.
JJ-- Thank you for this review! We're so happy to hear you are saving money and advocating for the environment. Solar really is the best alternative form of power. Thanks for going green with us!

We have been waiting nine months to have our panels connected. We have written letters to the President of Vivint -- no response. We get updates that have no information as to when we will be connected. They do not communicate with our power company to get a start date. Right now, we feel as if we have a pile of junk on our roof doing nothing for us. We are considering legal action.
Hi, Susan. We're sorry to hear about your experience with us thus far. We will look into your account to see where it is being delayed and do our best to help your account move forward. We'll be in contact with you shortly. Thank you for the feedback!

I signed up for Solar with a nice representative Stephan. I told him I would research the company online and then decide whether or not to continue or cancel. Well, after reading all the reviews here and on other sites, (mostly negative reviews) I decided to cancel. I called Vivint the next day, asked to cancel and was placed on hold while I was directed to someone Emily said would confirm canceling my account. Well I held on, no one picked up, and finally Emily said I should call my rep back to cancel, that she would send an email. I don't want to call the rep and hear another sales pitch on why I should not cancel, or any other story. So, I waited a week. Vivint took a dollar out of my account, like they said they would.
I called them back. Talked to Emily (she insisted it wasn't her I talked to last time, they must have a lot of Emily's working there on the phone lines) and started the whole routine again. I hung on the phone for 15 minutes when Emily came back and said, "I don't know why they aren't picking up?" just like she did on the last call. She again suggested to call my rep and tell him I wanted to cancel, as he could call the company and tell them I wanted to cancel. I told her I did not want to call and hear his sales pitch again, and who could I write to in the company to resolve this matter, as there was no place on the website to write and email to. For that matter, in the long contract they give, they don't give you a number to call and cancel, which all reputable firms would do.
Finally, after some more discussion and me getting angrier with me telling her they could keep the dollar if they really needed it, I told Emily she could call Stephan and tell him I want to cancel. She then said she would contact whoever it was that does not know how to answer the phones, and confirm that I wanted to cancel and have them send me an email confirming that. I will wait another week and see what happens. Emily said they would send a check for the dollar. (which seems stupid, as charging back to my account cost's nothing as sending a check cost's postage, etc.)
I will say, the only good thing this company did was not have me sign anything, just leaving me the contract to read, which, if you read it all will probably ensure you don't want to deal with them, especially the part where you pay for all the energy your solar panels generate, NOT how much you actually use. So they could install panels that generate way more than you use, and you have to pay for it. How does the homeowner know what is the right system, unless you are a solar engineer??? I continue to pay the electric company while I look into buying solar panels and owning the system, and getting whatever credits back from the electric company myself.
Thank you for this review and the detailed information, Jim. We will reach out to the local office and have your account cancelled. Look for the email confirming that the action has gone through. Thanks again.

They are in a big hurry to sell you the program and to get the solar panels up on top of your roof. Once they do that it is one delay after another. Everyone is so apologetic with all of their excuses and passing the buck. I was told that everything would be up and running within 6 weeks. Now I am being told it could be 3 to 6 months longer. DO NOT go this company - they will do anything to get you to sign on the dotted line and leave you in the lurch. When I tell them to come and take it off I'm informed I signed a contract so DON'T SIGN!!!

I had a salesman come out to my house the other day and try to sell me solar. I tried to give all of the answers nicely to shoo him away but he wasn't having it. He must have watched Glengarry Glen Ross because he was trying to close the sale and was not taking no for an answer. I listened to his schtick and some of it made sense so I allowed him to schedule a rep. to come out and look at the home. I was super busy, working on our home remodel, so I had no time to research the company on the spot. When I did get a chance to do some research I found all of the bad reviews not only on this site but others as well.
This changed my mind and I immediately called and canceled the consultation. The girl on the phone said that she was going to cancel the order but had to have me talk to someone else to ultimately close my file. I told her that would not be necessary as I don't need to talk with another high pressure salesman over the phone who is trying to save a potential customer. Needless to say, as with others who have reviewed this company, I had the same salesman just knock on my door and try to close the sale again. He pretended as if he forgot to leave a flyer and wanted to make sure everything was going as scheduled.
He even tried to open my security door. I normally don't write reviews but having the guy come back and try to pressure me after I made my decision. Get real. He told me that he has had nothing but great experiences with the company. I told him to look up the reviews of his company nationwide and see what people are saying. I know that not all locations are the same but I have the luck that if there is a chance of something going bad on a project it will happen to my house so I am choosing not to put myself though the potential hassle. Thanks for all of the reviewers that helped me with this decision.
Thank you for notifying us of the situation, John. We're sorry to hear about your poor experience with one of our sales reps. Your address is listed with this review so we will notify our local office in your area about this experience. Thank you again.

Thank you both for expediting the electric finish. It was completed on Saturday, August 8th. The installers were personable and very professional in their work. They explained the install, purpose of each piece of equipment along with how it all operates together and left a clean finish inside and out. We appreciate both your efforts and will wait for the next direction and steps in the process to a completed finish!
Great to hear, Karen! Thank you for the review.

We signed the paper contract with Vivint Solar on 3/27/2015. Until late May they got the solar panels installed, by the end of June they finished all inspections. Until now no one came to install the reversible meter and have the solar panels start generating electricity. I called their customer service line many times and they never give a clear deadline to finish. Now I am considering to have someone to really retrofit their installation to directly connect to Eversource and skip/remove Vivint's meter. I do not think they deserve any payback. Should anyone know how to do this, please let me know. If it is needed, I can hire an attorney to file a suit.

The panels were installed. Because of trees, we get VERY little savings. We are a couple in our mid 60s. The likelihood of staying in our house 20 years is very slim. We have to sell and have to pay Vivint over $20,000. Salesman should have told us. Contract is written in such small print you need a magnifying glass. A lien was placed on our title which caused a major problem at the closing. Vivint doesn't care. Bottomline, if you don't plan to live in your house for 20 years, DO NOT LEASE. Your energy savings will be wiped out.

We had our panels put on at the end of June 2015. We had all the inspections and still not turned on. They said 4 different things why every time I called. Funny how they used the same line of **. We are off balance billing at this time plus we are all electric. So who benefits from this? Well that would be PSEG with Vivint getting a cut. If you have to wait so long then don't change the meter out and keep the customer on balance billing. I guess they don't think we need our hard earn money. As it is I am thinking of contacting an attorney and also calling channel 12 or Newsday. If anyone is smart rethink about signing up with Vivint. I should have. Shame on Vivint and PSEG.

This is the worst company I have EVER dealt with!!! After being hounded by our salesperson for months I finally decided to go ahead with Vivint. This process started in July of 2014. They moved very quickly to get the panels installed on our roof so that we were locked into the contract... And that is where it ended!! It has now been 1 full year and my panels are still not hooked up and generating power. I seemed to get lost in their system every time I called to find out status - they never knew what was going on and every time it was a different excuse.
Finally a couple months ago I got assigned an account rep who promised me he would handle my account and make sure things got moving quickly. He does call every couple of weeks but every time it is a new excuse as to why it is not hooked up yet. I told him I wanted to speak to his manager and wanted these panels off my roof so that I could find a competent company so that I can start getting the savings I was promised. Of course his supervisor is not available and she will call me back in 48 hours. NEVER EVER EVER use Vivint Solar!!!
Hi Barbie, thank you for notifying us of your situation. We have looked into your account and have had a supervisor speak to you on 7/31 and 8/4. We will continue to be in contact with you as we work through your concerns. Email us at socialmedia@vivintsolar.com if there are any questions that come up. Thank you again for writing a review.
