Had system 10 years. Inverter failed twice. System has been offline for a year. They still bill me and my local power company bill us 400+ every month. 2-3 month wait for parts and 1-2 month wait to schedule service. Rude customer service agents get loud and obnoxious. They live to argue and try to be condescending. Poor quality. Do Not Get A Tesla Solar System. The company should be shut down and the management should be put behind bars.

There must be organization, a leader, a sense of ownership/responsibility, or ethics. I assumed a lease when I purchased a home in 2020 that was in year 6 of the 20-year lease. Totally frustrating people to work with. Customer service is so disconnected that when they transfer you from one group to another, you must select your language again.
I called them several times, and they were pleasant over the phone but did nothing. I was in the process of getting a new roof. They canceled my uninstall appointment three times, and now I can't get an appointment to have them re-install. This company is the worst! I wish to withdraw this contract and never use it again.

The on site installation crew pulled through our project. Brad, Ikaika, Eli and crew here in Hawaii were incredibly helpful and professional. We had some issues upon arrival but they patiently worked through them with the Tesla engineers and figured it all out. They went above and beyond to help us and we’re so thankful. Looking forward to using our system!

I have had a solar roof for eight years. I see offers for solar roofs with free batteries. Although I have tried to find a way to speak to customer service rep to see if there are any updates or deals for previous installations. I can't find any way to contact people on their site. Don't expect anything after the installation happens.

Pros: When I bought my Tesla solar and batteries, in August 2021, they were the cheapest. The app works well and lots of control, and something that appeared to be unique to Tesla. Nice feature such as the virtual power plant. Thanks to the 2 batteries +21 solar I can actually function normally off grid forever as long as I limit my consumption to what my solar can produce + batteries.
Cons: This said, the installation and design process wasn't that smooth. Where they wanted to install the panels at first wasn't making too much sense, they favored east over south. but at least they listened to my input. It took 1 month to be done with the installation due to all kind of glitches, they would roughly come 1~2 days a week to work on the installation. My biggest issue is that the system is highly unstable and customers service seriously failed to address the problem. I'm an electrical engineer.
The power generation is glitching and I end up producing 10% and sometimes up to 30% less than expected. Sometimes it works fine for weeks and rarely for months, then it starts glitching and producing less during a perfectly sunny day. Soft or hard reset of the system usually works. The customer service has been trying to dismiss the problem, but even when I succeed to show them it's not a normal behavior (why would reseting your system that often be normal anyway), they fail to follow up. Also, during the storm last winter where I was out of grid power for 9 days, the system worked but needed a reset once or twice a day (the power from the batteries would suddenly go down).
It was taking just 2 min to get the power back, so just an annoyance but why so unstable? I had to help my neighbor as she didn't know what to do and Tesla wouldn't answer (they were probably overwhelmed because everyone was complaining). I also sent them a complaint about this issue which they never answered. Note that I own 2 Tesla cars and I'm very satisfied with the customer service and the cars. My first car bought in 2016 had a lot of software glitches but they were updating the software once or twice a month and within a year it became very stable and the car still work wonderfully since then (2023). Tesla Energy is a completely different experience from the stability and service standpoint. I rate the service and stability as poor.

Well I installed my solar panels after doing my research in 2019. They design my plans in a way I will only received a bill from FPL for $20 for being connected to the grid. So my finance monthly payment $160 plus 20 sounds alright to be green. With no solar my average payment range in winter $100 and summer $200 so numbers make sense. Also $400 removal of panels if a roof repair or replace needed to be done. Anyway at this point when some ask what do I think BIG MISTAKES. IF I CAN GO BACK IN TIME I WILL. I don't know what's the deal with FPL and Tesla but my fpl bill average is 100 to 130 a month now and my tesla system from 160 to 240 so numbers did not match and financially I was spending more money a month.
TESLA BRUSH OFF MY COMPLAINTS blaming FPL and FPL did the same with Tesla and I'm the guy in the middle that suck it up!!!! Because it's nobody's fault. and after spending years complaining I give up! NOW I need to change my roof and remove the panels and tesla saying to hire a 3rd party company to remove them amd they will not be responsible if they damage the system. They have no teams available. So financially was the worst move get Tesla solar panels.
Their false advertisement techniques are not right and now If I want to get a 20 bill by Fpl I need to buy a Power wall 10k more and can't replace my roof. So hopefully people read this and don't jump into solar. It's a big mistake, I was a Tesla fan but big financial mistake and worst investment. By the way on their sales pitch also say it will increase the value of your home!!!! NOT TRUE. I have 2 appraisals when I refinance and no of them consider them. Soooo fake advertisment at best and they should be accountable for it.

Tesla knows that the inverter they installed 4 months ago has not been functioning for the last 2 months. They have no timeframe for repair despite the fact that it is under warranty. Once they have been paid for the solar installation, the company does not seem to care about their customers.

I initially purchased the panels from Solar City in 2015. This will be the third year that my roof has leaked, once in each spare bedroom and now in the living room. It has typically taken weeks for anybody to come out to “repair” the leaks. Now after the leaking again in the living room in January and the roof tarped to prevent further leaks and after repeated calls to the completely useless customer care dept, Tesla determined they need to replace the shingles.. They removed the panels on May 10. Roofers came out on June 9. Now after several calls to this dept they decided that they need to get permits. They requested the permits on Aug 22. I don’t know what was happening during June, July, through late Aug.
I called again and the customer care dept tells me that they are still waiting for the permits. So I decided to call the city myself and find out the status. The permits were approved on Sept 25. I called them back on Aug 30 and was told they are waiting for the permits. So when I called them out on this, Ebineezer (yes that’s the name he gave me) hung up on me. So I called back on Oct 5 and was told they are waiting for me to pay a site visit invoice of $200. A site visit fee is if they determine that the issue is not their fault. So I called the finance dept and they said they would create a ticket requesting the invoice be cancelled and would contact me back that same day, and like all the other lies they never contacted me back.
I have repeatedly attempted to speak to a supervisor but was always told to go pound sand. I have been paying for this all year as well. There are never 2 people that have the same answer for anything I call about. I have to explain where we are at in the process every single time I call them. I guess nobody writes any notes in their system. I wish there was some other avenue for consumers. In summary I have had reduced and no solar since January 2023 up to present day October. These people are complete frauds and I curse the day I was put into this position. Class action perhaps. Please, please do not use this company for solar.

Purchased a home with a Solar lease with Tesla. Since then I've found little savings on my energy (paying Tesla instead of PG&E), their customer service is the worst I've experienced from any other business I've ever contacted (in my lifetime). They provide a monitoring device for the panels to communicate with them if their system is functioning or not; which they do not maintain and works intermittently. I've replaced it; same problem -- the problem is Tesla that does not maintain the systems they are selling me power from and they expect me to troubleshoot their system, lol. Not wasting my time, their whole business is a scam and a joke.

I did my research on the power wall when I heard about it. I was very happy with what I heard and I’ve been very happy with Tesla since they bought out Solar City. I started with solar panels with Solar City several years ago. I am very pleased with the process of getting the power walls. All the information I was given I was shown everything I need to know about how to use it and I’m very very happy. I would definitely recommend looking into it to any of my family and friends.

I have a brand new system that cost almost $60k and is <2 years old and I have had nothing but trouble. 3 inverters were replaced, gateway doesn't communicate, no solar production and you wait weeks and even months for someone to come out. They just keep doing the same thing over and over and it works for a few weeks for even few months then stops. It is beyond frustrating as you can never get a person to speak with and when you do, they do the same thing...put you on list for tech a month or 2 later. Their app is great when it works. The panels are great when they produce. Problem is they are unreliable products (Tesla blames it on their prior use of non OEM products) and their service is bad if they never fix the problem. Save yourself a massive headache and Go elsewhere.

I've had the system for a year. One of the inverters was intermittently working but their "monitoring" never caught it until I looked into it. Took them almost a month to fix and then it failed completely a week later. Was told by support I would hear back in 10-14 business days. This never happened, so I contacted them and no action had been taken. Was told it was being escalated and I would hear back "soon". I then got a message saying my system needed service and to schedule through the app. Tried that and it said contact customer service. I did and they said they couldn't help and I would get another message in 1-5 business day.
Got that message and it said schedule through the app, the app of course said contact customer service. Did that again and customer service said they can't schedule but would email the schedulers who could take 24-48 hours to respond. So basically if you have a problem, and failing inverters seems to be a big one, you have to use the chat in the app and nobody on that can actually do anything other than "escalate" it. This makes me very concerned for how difficult it'll be for the remaining life of the system. I absolutely would not recommend them or use them again.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. My solar system is less than 1 year old and has been down for over 4 months. The outage is still continuing while under warranty. Tesla Energy has only made 2.5 visits in all that time only to tell me that their engineers are still trying to collect data to identify the fault in the system. That's less than one visit per month that they came to check why my Solar Energy system is not working. They still don't know and will not tell me when they will make another appointment to do anything. I used to be a big advocate to my friends and family for Tesla Energy and their Solar + Powerwall products. But now I'm not recommending Tesla because of the poor customer service while still waiting for Tesla to fix the issue under warranty.

I bought my house 2 years ago and took over the loan that was with Tesla solar. When we were going over the contract the rep had conveniently forgot to tell us that this loan you have to pay over your payment in order for your balance to come down. So for 2 years we have made payments and still have a balance of 40,000! Who does this **? So for us to ever get this paid we have to pay more than our bill which Is at least 200 a month to begin with for a home that people are gone for 10 hours a day and it's less then 1200 Sq feet.
Also our system goes out all the time. Tesla will email me and say it's out then trying to get anyone on the phone is impossible. All it is recordings. No one wants to speak to you because they know they are wrong. Once you do get someone to talk to they schedule appt way out in the future knowing your system is down. We pay out the ** and they have never offered a credit since it's their system. I would never recommend tesla. They are worthless. Their customer service is zero. All they care about is making them money and don't care about the consumers. If any one has any idea how I could get out of this contract please let me know. We are just a family trying to make do. Please people don't waste your money on tesla. Don't get yourself in this huge mess.

My Tesla solar panel inverter failed within 2 weeks of installation and tripped my two solar 20A circuit breakers. I was out of town for 5 weeks and didn't discover the problem until I returned home. Tesla won't send a service tech out for 5 weeks. That is 12 weeks from the actual failure and 5 weeks from when I reported the warranty problem. I am without solar power and have an electrical safety issue. I can't talk with a manager about this issue- as Tesla makes it impossible to speak with a manager.
I want an answer to the question of why the breakers tripped while we were away and the house had virtually no electrical load conditions? I spent 2.5 hrs on chat and customer support phones and was told the earliest I could get a service call is Oct 3rd - 5 weeks after I reported the outage and 12 weeks from the actual failure date. That is absolutely ridiculous. My solar panels are not operating - why? My smartphone app is not working - why? My system shut down by tripping the circuit breakers when I was out of town. Why? This is an emergency - and the best Tesla can do is schedule a service call 5 weeks out? Absolutely pathetic customer support.

We ordered the Tesla solar panels and Powerwall in August, 2021. They came and installed them in Jan, 2022. But they didn't work at all. It took them more than two months and sent 3 groups engineers to figure out that they connected one line incorrectly. During these two months, I have numerous calls to their customer department to ask them to send someone to fix the problem. The experience is frustrating.
In August 2023, my solar system stopped working. The customer service told me that someone will contact me in 15 business day. It has been about one month now and I haven't got any updates from Tesla. When I called the customer service, they just asked me to wait and nothing they can do. So don't waste your money and time on Tesla Energy.

Tesla Energy Operations have not performed for me while I was attempting to request a solar panel with 2 power walls estimate/installation. The first virtual consultation was restricted to a 30 minute phone/video conference call. During that call I explained to the Tesla representative that my previous 12 month SCE billing cycle was a bit low due to the fact that 3 months out of the year I was away from home, with almost no usage. Example was a June month billing that used 100Kwh, extremely low for a June billing. I also explained that once I purchased solar I would be purchasing an electric vehicle which I thought would also raise my electrical consumption. The consultant seemed to understand and provided a second estimate for a system size that I felt was more realistic to my needs. Prior to moving forward with Tesla a $100 refundable deposit is required.
Then I received an email from my “Project Advisor Patrick K”. Keep in mind Tesla will never meet with you in person and almost never over the phone. Business is conducted through email and through their website dashboard. This makes it extremely difficult to convey a point about low electrical consumption and my past 12 month billing cycle being low or to have any questions or concerns answered without multiple emails. I still have doubts from my questions after days of emails. Most of the information I provided to the Virtual Consultant, Rodolfo C., was not conveyed to my Project Advisor Patrick K. Therefore lots of time was spent going over my consumption concerns.
After my consumption concerns were thoroughly conveyed and I requested a specific size system, my project advisor stated the new system would take a week to design. I was shocked since the first two designs provided by Tesla were during my initial 30 minute virtual consultation. In addition to that I have also discussed my needs with at least 4 other local solar companies, all provided estimates within an hour, and some provided second estimates within a day. All came to my home for a face to face visit, a walk of my property to inspect installation possibilities and other related requirements all at no cost to me.
Tesla also sends out a Required CPUP solar packet, this document must be read and initialed and signed prior to any contract being signed by any company installing solar in the State of California. One of the items this document recommends you do is asking for references. When I asked my Tesla solar advisor for references in my area, he declined my request. He came up with some excuse that providing references from previous customer is against the company privacy policy. That makes no sense, I have worked with many contractors in my personal life in the recent past and references are part of the business. Usually when a contractor completes a project they ask the customer if they are happy with their performance and if they can use them as a reference. I have also worked with contractors in my business life and references are usually a requirement to procure a contract. Tesla seems to be hiding something.
Another thing the CPUP solar packet suggests is to check the company contractor’s license. Tesla provided their license as **, when I looked up this contractor’s license on the State of California contractor’s license board site; it came up with 8 disciplinary actions since 3/10/2020. As of this writing Tesla has 1 disciplinary action citation from 3/16/2023 open and pending. When I asked my Project Advisor about their contractors license and the disciplinary actions he really did not have an answer, just if any damage was done to my home Tesla would make it right.
I have reached out to my Project Advisor more than 6 times during my wait for an updated system size with no real answers. I even requested to discuss my issue with a management member, only to be told he, the Project Advisor is my point of contact through the remainder of my project. I diligently scoured the Tesla website to reach out to a customer service member or anyone that could help me with my issue, with no success. Some responses to my Project Advisor in reference to when the estimate would be ready were, we are busy, the estimate is coming soon, I have discussed this issue with our management team and the estimate will be ready in a couple days. It has been over a month and I have still not received an updated estimate for the system size I requested. I have requested Tesla refund my $100 deposit and am awaiting a response.
One of my big concerns was the oversized system being approved by my utility provider. When I asked my Project Advisor when my utility provider will see my oversized system for the first time? More specifically will they see it when I sign a contract with Tesla, will they see it when Tesla pulls permits, or will they see it when it is 100% installed a paid for. The Project Advisor responded at the end when it is installed and paid for. I asked about the oversize agreement document my provider has and my Tesla Project Advisor seemed stumped.
So keep in mind, do your homework, Tesla does not tell you what is going on with your energy provider. Tesla simply wants to sell a product, read the CPUP packet sent out and ask lots of questions and visit some of the sites recommended within the packet. Tesla has no paperwork; it is all electronic that Tesla wants you to review and sign to move forward. Bottom line Tesla is not concerned with their customers, only with selling. This was a horrible experience.

31 July 2023 letter to Tesla for NO OUTPUT SOLAR ZERO. Did reset by the the website nothing fixed then notice the dial tone on the phone was gone. Later Steve from Buffalo inform me that's not how we would do it. We did it again and it actually fixed my phone issue but will have to wait one to two days for a call back to see if the PowerCylce worked. Why is there little support and the reset procedures on line are not very reliable. No LED CODE on my equipment.
Weekend only emergency and Powerwall tech no solar and invertors tech. Even with the Power Cycle not confident this is the fix. Why does it take 24 hours to see if it is producing output out of the solar panels this tells me its a control issue/protocal issue. Since the issue started Sunday 30 July 12:00-13:00 after I had to reboot my mobile APP and when I did a pairing and then I notice the solar output went /avalanche to zero. And is still at zero. Just purchase a Model Y and there is poor customer service issue even with the car it's interesting when people tell me go to Utube for answers.
1 August 2023 10:15. Steve from Tesla call back issue not fixed will now go to tier 2 the next level. At least he didn't wait for 2 days. Now I have to wait 10-14 days for Tier 2 to reply back I'll give them till next week. This is ridiculous. WHAT WOULD ELON DO? And most likely a service tech should have been sent starting now/schedule. CASE# ** Phone number 1-725-867-6182.
1. Should I get reimburse for saving loss from Tesla about $20-$30 a day.2. If I have to wait the 10-14 WORK/ BUSINESS days it will be the 15th -21st August. That is not great customer service. What does Elon think about this issue?
3. So in a nutshell no support on weekend and after 3pm or is it 6pm on weekdays not sure about holidays.
4. Since my employment was a Electrician Service troubleshooter unless Tier 2 can troubleshoot from remotely my understanding is all they can do is monitor because if they could control the inverter it would have been diagnosed remotely within a day or two not 10-14 days unless support is that thin or overloaded with problems.
5. Real curious if the iverter can be fixed with parts or just replacement. And what about the Gateway?
Now wait and see how fast this get fixed.
2 August 2023. Call Tier 2 number and left message for TECHS with operator the Powerwall Plus fan for radiator is in rotor lock will not spin freely. In my experience, it's either on or off. I was surprised to find it in rotor lock mode.
11 August 2023. Called 1-725-867-6182 on hold, call back 52 minutes. 11:28 am. 12:35 pm call back from Alexus. I should hear By the 15 th- 21 st of August cause their policy is 10-14 business days for a better solution but I doubt just waiting will solve my issue and from the internet reviews there is a sentiment Tesla service and customer support is not JOB One. Will look at website review and see if a class action has been started. Also started looking at the mileage EV to actual mileage on my NEW Model Y and found why there is a class action. More to follow.
15 August 2023 CASE# ** Phone number 1-725-867-6182. Called 1-725-867-6182 on hold, call back 22 minute 13:25 appox call back 23 August, now it's 15 days not 10-14 days. Also inform customer service rep. It is a hardware issue as stated on my Support page on my APP that showed up. But no way to get hold of Tier 2 to get appointment for service must wait for Tier 2 to try to remotely fix it but if hardware issue how does that get fixed remotely?
Example if my computer doesn't work I call customer service (CS) and they will try to fix remotely by rebooting then if that doesn't work then a repair is set up and computer sent in or repair person comes to location. The way Tesla does it if it doesn't “Power Cycle” wait til it fix itself. Tesla will not start a Case# unless you request it the CS then you can check 10-14 for Tier 2 to fix it remotely. How many times does that work?
Now I'm told it 15 work days not regular days so better hope there are not a lot of holidays. So now Sunday 30 July about 2pm when first called in that day no Case# created till 1 August Tuesday but the day count does not start till 2 August when Tier 2 started working on it. Now I'm told it 15 days, it's ironic that since the only repair people have to be Tesla and it's under warranty and I feel this is a company that can't support their product or is it a bad product or not enough support person after installation complete. Look at the internet for Tesla customer support when 50% is rated bad that is definitely a RED FLAG problem.
NOW if I was a real company and this is my backup and it does work during a real emergency then what so if you're looking for a backup that when it works it works great but if there a problem most part have 5 to 10 to 25 year warranty they might get it fixed by then. Hope there is not a Tier 3 or more, it would be ironic if there is a Tier 13 and beyond. Curious when I call back, will it get sent to another dept or will I get a Service Call. Or do I hope I get a power outage then that is an emergency.
Also the reason I bought solar live in a Level 3 firezone. When it works it's great but when there is a problem NO 24/7 SERVICE, call back when CS opens, need to start Case# immediately, their operators won't. The APP under Support show a message that came in a couple of days ago there is a Hardware issue meaning to me a REAL Person Service Tech should be sent out.

This is regarding support ticket **. I am a Tesla solar customer. I've had it on my roof for over two years, as it was in place when I bought the house. I've monitored it's output with the tesla app. Got a new phone and couldn't get the app to show me my system. When I logged in it just tried to sell me a car and other products. I "worked with" Tesla support for over a week trying to address this. It boiled down to this: I could log onto Tesla on my laptop. You have to login to deal with support at all. But I couldn't login to the app on my phone. It'd tell me account is locked and not accessible, while concurrently logged in on laptop. They said it was two different systems. "One company, one login?", no, apparently not, as they don't have integrated systems.
After much hassle and many delays, I logged into the app on the phone, but it just tries to sell me stuff. The "gateway" box next to my modem/router is on, no red lights, and support says they can see my solar monitoring, but it doesn't show up on my phone. I asked if there was any way to get my phone to manually "handshake" the gateway, as everything seems to indicate that the gateway and phone aren't talking to each other, but I'm told there's no way to do that. So in the end they say there's no problem "on their end". I can't see my solar monitoring but they can, and the implication is that something's wrong on my end, but there's nothing unique about my phone or anything.
So they say they'll refer it to their "application team". They've done this twice already. They'd say to check back in three days, I'd do so, and find that NOTHING has changed. They did this twice, and now they're not even giving a timeline, just saying that the "app team" will email me when they have some clue. So clearly they have abandoned me. They believe it's working perfectly, as they can see my solar panel monitoring, so it's not their problem. They make mewling noises about being very concerned but they also seem to say nothing needs to be fixed, so there's no expectation on my end that they'd ever do anything about this ever again (not that they did anything in the first place).
So sure, buy some Tesla solar panels. Just expect to be left high and dry as soon as there's a problem. These losers don't care, they dismiss you for days on end with promises of repair that amount to nothing, and straight-up shove you out the door when they're tired of trying to appear helpful. The experience has caused me to loathe this company and I implore you to avoid doing business with them.

If I could rate them 0 STARS I would. This has been a headache ever since I got the system installed. I signed up for the system in November of 2021, installed in May of 2022, they broke multiple rafters during install. Had to remove solar array, fix rafters, then fix roof, then reinstall solar array. Got PTO in November of 2022. In April of 2023 the system started to cycle on and off, then began to leak coolant. After 3 service calls, they replaced the inverter in June of 2023. Now it's July of 2023 and the brand new inverter has failed. Started cycling on and off and is now leaking coolant just like the first one.
Elon Musk needs to get this addressed. I will be contacted the AZ state ROC 14 days after my first contact with Tesla on this second inverter failure if not remedied by then. I'm so furious right now with Tesla. The customer service needs a complete make over. The whole automated procedures suck. Someone needs to look into why these inverters are failing so prematurely. #ELONMUSK #ELON #MUSK #Teslaengery

Updated on 08/07/2023: This week will be 2 months that my system is down. I have Tesla solar panels and a Powerwall. Installed in October 2022 and went down in early June 2023. As of today, still no resolution. I have had many people in their customer service group promise me updates, and one actually responded at the end of July but is now ghosting me. I was told that it is a firmware issue, and it doesn't make much sense. If they have a firmware issue, they should roll back to what was working until they can fix the bug. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a way to escalate an issue. I am at the point where I want 100% of my money back and have them come take down their system so I can find a better solution. It is not pleasant to be treated so poorly by their company. We have a Telsa 3 and our service/support for the car has been great, so it is just the Telsa Energy group with the problem.
Original Review: I purchased my Tesla solar panels and powerwall less than a year ago. On June 13 it started to fail and a few days later went down hard. On June 13 I opened the case with the Tesla service team. They finally sent a crew to my house on July 5, and still no resolution. I have tried to call and get this resolved and still nothing. This is the best month for solar generation so it is costing me hundreds of dollars in power. It is also the hottest month so have had to run my AC during this entire time. I have had many promises of someone responding and providing updates but as yet, nobody has. I believe that Tesla owes me a credit for all this time and loss of power generation. I am just one customer so they don't care and I have no clue when this will be resolved.

I have been having Arc faults for 3 months now and Tesla is just circling around with no clear resolution. It could be months/years before they resolve this and I am stuck making payments for both Tesla Energy and Utility companies + fine that utility company will levy on me if I don't generate any energy. Here is what Tesla Energy is:
2. Extremely long wait times for sending their tech.
3. Zero transparency on how your issue will be resolved.
4. Take you for granted that customer can do nothing but wait for their horrible service.
5. Escalations is a joke and you will never go beyond first tier customer support who have no clue.

DON'T LEASE WITH TESLA. When the service is down, and it could be 3 seasons in a row, they never bend with pausing billing. Never. There is a zero human element to their billing service and customer support only explains your lease terms which you probably already understand. Their "performance contract" is very low and they stand behind that to explain why you will never get any retroactive billing or pause of billing during the time they were unable to provide service.

We installed Tesla Solar 3 years ago with the high hopes. They worked well for 3 years. We still had to pay to PGE NEM Charges at True up. At the end of the year, the total payment to PGE in average was $300-500. It was not bad for 4500 sq. feet house. However, two months ago, Tesla panels stopped generating the power. As a result, we had to pay PGE $150 and $200 per month respectively. Plus estimated NEM charges at True up high rocketed to over $1K.
Tesla Solar confirmed that problem was defective inverter, which will not be available for another month. For us it means another monthly payment to PGE– $200-250 and True up will go to $1300-1500. Which is quite excessive for our family, considering that Tesla Solar had not been paid even fraction of the investment. We are truly disappointed with our investment in Tesla, Elon Musk and Green Energy as a whole. At this time this innovation did not prove to be reliable, nor efficient for humanity.

I've paid $23K cash for this system and they are essentially ghosting me. My emails and phone calls are ignored and I'm now entering my 3rd month of not having a working system and have not been offered any resolution to this.
You will find many, many similar stories if you search Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and even on the Tesla Motor Club forum. It's really astounding how little regard this company has for their customers. They have plenty of crews to install new systems, but claim they are "under staffed" to support customers who have paid in full for their solar system. I advise all to carefully consider your options when selecting a solar energy provider. Don't be lured by Tesla's lowball offers. They don't stand by their warranties and you will be out of luck if you ever need help.

I purchased Tesla solar in late 2018 and the system went live early 2019. Seemed like a great idea. It was the worst decision in my life. 1st up was pest damage. Ok fair enough. No fault of Tesla aside from not discussing the pest abatement with me upfront. $2700 out of pocket to take all the panels off, repair damage and replace. Several months later, invertor went out. Covered under warranty. Took Tesla months to come out (due to backlog) and Im paying electric and solar bills meanwhile. System then worked well for about a year. Invertor failed again. Tesla said they were on backorder and took six months to get out to put a new one in. Upon completion, the system was not producing even 50%. This was confirmed by Tesla but they said they needed to continue to monitor it. Note that at this time I asked why Tesla didn't put my pest abatement back up after the repair work.
They said they don't do that anymore (even though I paid them to do it initially and it was only removed due to their faulty product.) Through repeated calls and emails, they just said the same and refused to escalate. Another six months go by... they finally agree to send someone out. That crew advised that the reason for the under production was that the previous crew ran the wrong wires off the house. All the panels had to come back off and they had to rewire them. Unreal.
Fortunately, they were back in two weeks to do this. 3/16/23 - System still under producing at or about 15-25% of what it should be. I've had almost a full electric bill every month for years at this point. Tesla came back out to inspect on 4/26/23- advised pest damage has occurred, I'd be responsible for $2150 to take the panels off and repair. I disputed this, as the damage only occurred because they refused to replace the abatement. Tesla disagrees so my system sits producing barely anything. We're waiting on a call back from a lawyer right now. If you go solar, NEVERRRRR go Tesla. If you have a problem you'll be screwed.

The design process took about 2 months. I have a large home and this process was simple. Google Snapshots turned into designs for best possible southern exposure and it was determined the 17KW could be laid out properly and the install was set to happen on 5/11/22 which took 2 - 3 days but with the distance required for travel it was short days and it turned into weeks to get everything appropriately powered on. The group responsible for install didn't pull the appropriate permits which resulted in me having to massage the local building commissioner and electrical inspector as it is a small community to get them to try and work with me the homeowner rather that work with the installer.. After a month of back and forth the system was rated for turn on 6/4/2022. This is where the problems started. The application to my local utility provider was never started until after the system was installed.
To this day I write my review 5/22/2023 the system has never been powered on. I still await the interconnection approval from my utility who has sent multiple inspectors out to deem that the system was installed incorrectly and doesn't have the appropriate safety measures needed for a system the size of mine. Right now I am overproducing hundred and hundreds and even thousands of KW a month that can go nowhere and I am losing out on hundreds if not thousands of dollars a month. I have been on over 50 different e-mail chains with various people from Tesla that blame eversource for being wrong and blame the installers for not doing it right but REFUSE to help me.
To make matters worse I have two brothers locally that both have eversource and after my nightmare they decided to go with solar city and one has their system installed late april 2023 and it was powered on within 1 week to the utility and my second brother had his installation completed on 5/12/2023 (friday) and it was powered on by the utility on 5/15/2023 (Monday). Tesla Customer service deserves a NEGATIVE 5 starts and no one takes accountability. The solar panels on our roof were installed so that the rain finds its way into our kitchen. This started about 3 years ago. They sent a crew to fix the issue five times. Every time they left with the 'fixed' status and every time the rain kept coming into the house. They finally agreed to remove the solar panels from one side of the roof where all the 'fixing' was unsuccessful and redo the roof entirely on that side. The idea was, that after the redo, the panels will go back and continue the work they were designed to do. These panels are still sitting in my backyard and waiting to be installed. The roof work was done 6 months ago. We are still paying the full price that we had a contract for, while the panels are not generating the energy we agreed on. Tesla promised they will finish my installation before April time frame that new PG&E pricing will go on effect.
After two weeks with no news from Tesla, I called to follow up, they said the project was cancelled since distance between the gas meter and electrical meter was less than 36 inches, and must be relocated. I checked the neighborhood and found other houses with Tesla Solar installation with much less than 36 inches difference between those panels, took pictures and sent to Tesla adding that Gas meter was installed during the house construction by PG&E technicians and that all construction phases have been inspected by City and County authorities and all is in compliance with Building Safety Codes.

Once it was up, it was easy to monitor how much energy we were capturing and storing, etc. But, this week we had our first winter power outage and it completely FAILED. The system went offline and would not restart. Fortunately, our family was out of town for 2.5 of the 3 days. I could not reconnect via the app (it said it needed Wifi, but guess what?!-- the Wifi doesn't work when there is a power outage).
After returning and throwing out the contents of the refrigerator, dead plants, etc., I ran through the troubleshooting steps on the app (I will be printing these out for the next outage so as not to use my phone battery and the cell signal in the area was very weak given the widespread power outages). When troubleshooting didn't work, I called Tesla customer service (you can find the actual phone number with a search, but not in the troubleshooting app). The attendant tried to reset remotely, but it didn't work. PG&E has now restored power thankfully, as Tesla won't have someone out for 4 days. I agreed to purchase a Tesla Solar & battery system in 9/21, system price was approx. $67k. I have had several issues with install and delivery, the customer service has been shocking for a company with such high ambitions. Tesla have taken approximately 14 visits to install the system so far, at the time of my order I was advised of a two-month turnaround with 1-2 install visits.
Some of the issues that I have encountered are:
• Tesla have wasted my time with multiple scheduled visits with either a Tesla no show, missing equipment or the wrong install teams arriving e.g., Powerwall team required, and solar team or invertor team arrived.• Tesla have offered little or no consultation during deployment process, e.g., which Powerwall devices should be backed up in the event of an outage, or on the physical Powerwall placement, these were installed at the easiest possible place for the installers.
• Rewiring work was performed incorrectly resulting in some appliances tripping and eventually a refrigerator burning out and having to be replaced (I learned this a few months after install).
• Damage to walls was not repaired whilst performing relocation of existing electrical outlets.• Multiple teams have come out to correct an issue with a solar inventor that is not functioning correctly, despite me reaching out multiple times I have not received any evidence to suggest that this issue has been resolved.
I raised a complaint once each issue occurred, pretty much at every step of the installation process, this is documented via email, nobody from Customer Services has addressed these concerns or taken ownership. The issue was raised to the escalations team and advised that a $1k discount was the only offer, if not acceptable Tesla would physically decommission the system, I declined the offer, I had no faith in Tesla’s customer service and received no reassurances, something that is quite important when a product has a 20 yr service warranty, I agreed to the decom and asked Tesla to restore my garage and roof to its previous state post decom to which they agreed to.
I waited 10 months for this decom to take place, I have not had any contact from anybody at Tesla, until last week and it was if the previous conversation never took place. I strongly suggest that Tesla invest in setting up a customer experience/advisory practice, there is clearly a huge gap between delivery and meeting basic customer expectations. I have learned the hard way that Tesla’s enticing solar packages leave you with a much bigger trade off on customer service, this is found quite commonly with Tesla solar installs, please see link to a forum with multiple bad reviews, surprisingly this is a forum I joined in 2014 ago for Tesla vehicle enthusiasts. **

Once a date for installation was set, we spoke (actual phone calls) to the actual installation team from Albany, NY. They had to drive 2 hours to get to our home. They were fantastic! Polite, knowledgeable, hard working men who knew the facts of installing solar panels during a New York winter!! They drove through bad weather, They had to shovel our roof twice. They had to work in our attic, not once did they leave any mess, they insisted on vacuuming and moving items that they thought might be in our way. They kept us updated on every step of the installation, and what to expect that would be coming next.
I want to strongly suggest that the project manager that texts clients actually spoke to the installation team in order to give correct information! We were told that things had to be done that did not, and never told us what actually did happen. Please learn the laws of each state!! I have nothing but high praise for the team that completed our work yesterday. They need a raise!!!

I installed Tesla rent solar panels in my home 5 years ago. It is a nightmare. Do never get their rental installation. They took 18 months to fix some damaged panels, in the middle time they are taking my money from my account, per contract, but they don't deliver service. You end up paying double electric bill. DO NOT INSTALL SOLAR panels, and Tesla is the worst. Bad customer service, 2 hours waiting on the phone. They lied when they said they are supposed to check the panels and fix it without me even knowing. And you get cursed for 20 years. I don't know how much they pay the people who review here. AMAZON people???? Consumer Affairs lost credibility.

The price that Tesla offered was great and the installation went smoothly, everything else has been a nightmare. No communications from my project advisor during the initial design phase, had to call Tesla numerous times to ask questions. Once installed, it took Tesla four times over seven months to file the application to the utility company correctly. Once utility approval was granted, found out that there was an issue with the system. It's now been four months with several visits from Tesla and they've been unable to fix it. I've had the panels on my roof for over a year now and they've never fully worked. I started a ticket with Tesla's resolution dept only for them to find out the approved utility application had incorrect kW amount, with very little help otherwise so far.

We just had the Tesla solar panels and a Powerwall installation this week after the Tesla employees visited the house twice, a design team planned the system, and the site survey team stating where everything would be mounted, what was needed, and how it would be done. Long story short, they made a mistake on the size of the system and after I voiced a concern, suddenly they "adjusted" the plans to be in the approximate output of what was needed. As we were also paying for a Powerwall, the site surveyor stated after taking pictures of Air Conditioning units, noting appliances, and that we had a pool, the design team recommended 1 Powerwall. They finished installation 3 days ago, and already by watching the Tesla App, I can see that 1 Powerwall is not enough.
I reached out to the design team via chat (the only option by the way and you can't call them) and was told by a rude employee, SETH, that it was not their problem with the Powerwall and even though the system was installed less than 36 hours ago, there was nothing I could do. Now mind you, no final approval from the building department or the power company has been granted yet, and the installation isn't complete because the poles that are mounted to the floor to protect the Powerwall in the garage from a car striking it accidentally was not installed during the installation and another appointment would have to be made (I had to reach out and ask about this missing pole).
I asked for a supervisor to call me and was told that no supervisor would call me back. I was told I have to wait a year and then apply for another Powerwall, but THEY DON'T INSTALL STANDALONE POWERWALL UNITS, and don't know when they will be doing this. So now I have a system which was just installed, cannot supply the needs of the house even overnight with minimal electrical usage, and they won't just come back to install another battery. What kind of a company is this where they say everything will work out fine and less than 36 hours later you find out that it won't? Be careful of using Tesla and if you're interested in solar, make sure you ask all these questions up front or you may get stuck with something that is inadequate.

At the beginning of 2021, when we moved to our current home, we obtained an online quote from Tesla solar. They gave us a preliminary estimate. They collected our electric bills and when spoken to customer support, we were told that the setup we will get should cover all of our utility needs. At the time, our electric bill was averaging $330 a month and that is why we wanted to install solar. We had a different company (Sunpower) in our older home. So, this was not our first solar experience. But, we opted to go with Tesla because they expressed guarantees to giving us optimal setup with the technology they had to cover our energy usage.
Tesla then came for a couple of home inspections and told us the roof was in great condition. They did not say anything about the house orientation, roof slope, or trees around us. They just informed us that we will need 36 panels will give us more than enough energy. We proceeded with the installation and paid a little over $25,000 in full. We received our true up electric bill in August, we were shocked. Our bill was about $3100. Given that we were averaging $330/month and given that we were paying monthly percentage as directed by the energy bill, the bill means that we are pretty much not getting any benefits from solar at all.
Ever since we have been battling with Tesla to resolve this issue. We have spent numerous chats on the app with customer support and talked to them about 6 times, for over an hour each time with no progress on identifying the problem or Tesla initiating any type of solution to support the service we paid fully for. We asked a technician from the energy company to evaluate our system. After examining the meter and other givens, he told us that we have next to no output. He also noted that our usage was actually the bare minimal as well at the time. He speculated that the system Tesla set up is on strings and that there are few inverters, which means when there is shading, there is a system power shut down power. This was the first time we ever heard of a string inverter setup.
We spoke to tesla, who eventually sent out a technician and charged us $200. The technician concluded that the system is fine but confirmed that we have 4 inverters, and the shading will cause an issue. He also said that he felt there were setup issues and promised to talk to supervisor and get back to us. That never happened. We called multiple times and received no call back. We kept calling and when we finally received customer support, they said will not do anything about it because of the shading. The service rep was argumentative and extremely unhelpful.
We called again and got the issue escalated. The person who handled escalation sent a note saying that the shading is the problem and closed the case and would not communicate with us again. So, we hired another company engineer to do an assessment on the setup. The report finding are summarized as such:(1) We have a string setup, panel grouping, which needed micro inverters, because of the shading so as not to lose production. (2) The slope of the house does not provide enough sunlight because of rotation. Tesla should have angled the panels differently to capture more sun. (3) Tesla is used areas of low radiance to place the panels causing less production when there is other available space on the roof that would optimize output.
Tesla never told us about shading or micro inverters. There was no discussion of potential risks from shading. We shared the report with Tesla and did not receive a reply to our email in 3 weeks. We called 2 more times into Tesla support. One time we waited 45 min and then got disconnected/hung-up. We called again and finally got through to someone. They insisted that it is the shading. We said we needed an engineer to look at the setup and evaluate the situation. Tesla is not being helpful.
As obvious from the long and tedious description that Tesla overpromised, did not deliver and is refusing to take responsibility and offer solutions. We literally paid $25,000 for nothing. We are not getting any benefits. The trees around our house have been there for many years. They were there the two times Tesla came for a home inspection. We went with Tesla because we trusted that they have the right engineers and tools to forecast our needs based on the data provided and be able to place the panels and set them up in a way that maximized production. None of that took place. This is a complete disappointment.
In addition to the incompetent service they supplied, the customer service is horrible. We have spent endless hours on the phone and on chat with them. They show no concern or advocacy for their customers of any sort. I would not recommend Tesla solar to anyone. We had SunPower previously and they delivered on their promises, and we have not had a single issue with them for over 6 years.

No call ever till I call them back. They sent a person to my home to fix it twice and both the times they gave a wireless extender saying that the signal is weak. It has not helped at all even with the solution they provided. They have been transferring me from one department to another for the past month and on calls for hours at a stretch. Customer service is so rude that they don't care about wasting customers' time and they are like you are talking to me now and I don't want to talk about why you were on the call for the past 2 hours and I can't help you with the problem as the order is in the system but don't know when it will be served.
Also we got solar along with the home we bought 3 yrs ago and had called to move the system under my name at that time. Guess what? It was still not moved 2 years ago. I called in. They said they moved it at that time. I talked to a representative today to address my current problem and they had not moved the entire system to my name yet!!! 3 years and they still can't fix it. Installed solar with Solar City 10 years ago. Tesla picked up our service and we remit monthly payments to Tesla. We've been very happy with our decision to have solar on our house. We live in Colorado and get harsh hail storms from time to time. Recently we had to have the roof replaced, due to hail damage. Tesla service (or their subcontractor) scheduled and removed the panels pretty quickly, within 7-14 days. We had the shingles replaced and waited the 30-days they require before we contact them for the reinstallation.
Then contacted Tesla via email that the roof was done and the panels were ready to be reinstalled. Crickets! No email confirming, they received my email, no call...nothing. Email is the only way you can contact them. I dialed the phone number listed on their removal email and it states 'the number is not a working number at Tesla'.
I've sent a few emails regarding the need for reinstall, with no contact back. I've had my panels stacked on my deck since mid-July 2022, 4-months. I'm worried the harsh winds we can get in the front range will blow and damage some of the panels. BTW, I still make my payments and my higher electric bill. I understand there have been workman shortages, but please let me know what's going on! I don't know where to go from here. Tesla, please take care of your obligation.

I have reached out to Tesla support at least 3 times, each time we have been told they will let us know when they have someone who can check it out. Yes, it's hard to get someone on the phone, but the support via the website and chat work great (I had some back and forth on my design, which would normally be changed within 1-2 days, and some occasional questions which quickly got answered), the equipment is great, the price is way better than anything I got from other companies, and the install crew (Tesla employees) was very professional and friendly. 132 days since the system was installed, they lost my utility's work order number, sent paperwork to my town building and electrical inspector but had my address wrong, I've had to step in to get paperwork done and no idea when we will get the permission to operate so we can turn on the system. The installation team was great but since then it's been radio silence and it seems the only way next steps are completed by Tesla is by my reaching out to get them moving. Once the installation was completed, the phone number I called prior so that I could talk with a human being wound up turning into a recorded line telling me that I had to log into my account online and either start a chat with a project advisor or schedule a call for a later date to talk to a human.
Every time I talk to a human during a scheduled call or chat, I never get the same project advisor on the phone and the standard response to a question or update request from them is "I don't have access to that information, I will reach out to that department and it can take up to 48 hours to get a response and I will get back to you with that response" - but there is never a follow-up from Tesla so I have to reach back out again to get the same results. I call this the "Never Ending Tesla Customer Service Loop of Incompetence".
Two months after install, I was in a discussion with a project advisor and it came to light that Tesla lost the work order number my electric utility provided for this project. When I asked if the notes in the Tesla system showed if anyone at Tesla had reached out to the utility to get that lost work order number, the response that there was no note in the system showing that had happened. I emailed my utility and within five minutes they emailed me back with that work order number.
I have had to be the go-between with Tesla and my town's building and electrical inspector over the past few weeks to get the "Structural Affidavit & Completion Document" form completed by the town - the town shared that the subject line of the email from Tesla with that document had a street address that didn't exist in my town instead of my address. In one call I had to schedule with an advisor from Tesla. I was literally told that they can't talk about delays with the project while it is ongoing but once the project is completed Tesla will schedule a call with an advisor so that we can review the project and discuss the delays.
With customer service that is this poor during the process I am cringing to think about how bad the service will be after we get to the point where we can turn our system on...132 days out and no one at Tesla can even give me a ballpark for when that will be. My utility has been waiting for one document from Tesla since July (it is the middle of October now) so that they can come out and install the second meter which is the last step before the Permission To Operate (PTO).
Based on the ongoing, unprecedented class Tesla continues to provide on how not to treat or work with a customer, I wonder how they can continue to survive and based on similar examples of this I continue to find online, surprised no one has filed a class action suit against them. Tesla - how can you get something so simple as customer service so wrong.

Although a PPA for KWH is much cheaper than your electric company the process for buying the system at fair market value after 5 years is a scam. Currently a more than comparable system for roughly 7K KWH system runs less than 19K for complete install and 25 year end to end warranty. The current system I have is outdated and when I asked to purchase the system they quoted 30K. This is for a system that does not have a microinverter system and used an outdated Solar City string inverter system. The contract clearly states that if I wish to buy out the system it would be sold at Fair Market Value determined by a third party.
I checked with three retailers and the fair market value for the system I have is much less than the current going rate of 19K. The panels are outdated and are no longer being produced along with the string inverter system that is currently being used. I have talked to several other Solar City/Tesla owners and they have all came up with the same numbers. Is there anyone willing to do a Class action?

My intention is to alert potential solar energy customers to consider my experience into consideration when they are deciding about the vendor blindly, just as I did. If Tesla solar approaches you, don't just walk away but run away. Absolute nightmare dealing with them. My system was installed in 2022. It worked just for one week in three months since I got the permission to operate from SDGE. In the last 3 weeks, I had 3 maintenance visits. Each time the crew claimed that the issue was fixed forever, but the system shut down again within a few days they left.
To exacerbate your situation, it was a monumentally painstaking process to schedule the next appointment. I waited hours in the waiting queue on the phone or in online chat to get in touch with a real person. It doesn't end there. They were so busy that you would be lucky if you could get a maintenance appointment within the window of two weeks. In the meantime, my solar system has been down. That means I have been paying monthly payment towards the loan and also paying SDGE for using their grid.
Tesla solar might be less expensive than others, but those saved dollars aren't worth it. My neighbors noticed a Tesla Energy van parked in my driveway every other week in the last three weeks. And, they didn't even need to ask me for my opinion. It was all evident to them. Couple of them are potential customers. Then turns out they commissioned the inverter wrong where monitoring shows energy sent to grid at night and energy being imported from grid during the day. Ticket open but no response. Customer service is not friendly at all and they are arrogant. There is no path to escalate. Though their pricing is good, having good support and customer service is worth more. I regret going with them.

I decided to go with Tesla for a couple of reasons. 1, they were the lowest priced. 2, they handle all aspects of the system themselves. From manufacturing or sourcing equipment, to installation, to financing. Seemed like a good idea. Everything up to and including the initial installation was flawless, except for the email + call + text (yes, all 3) every day for the 14 days leading up to the install date. After install is when the real problems started.
Prior to the City inspection, Tesla sent a tech to make sure everything was ready. He identified a couple of issues that could cause the inspection to fail. Tesla didn’t act upon this recommendation, and sure enough the inspection failed. Tesla came out to correct the issues, did so poorly, and the second inspection also failed. The system did pass on the third try. Wouldn’t be so bad, except I work from home. Every time Tesla had to come out, they turn my power off for however long. What they don’t tell you is someone needs to be home while the tech is there if any equipment is in the garage. So can’t work, and can’t go somewhere else to work.
System passed inspection 6/2. Tesla website says 1-6 weeks to complete the permission to operate application and have the new meter installed by your power company, unless delayed by the power company for some reason. In mid-June I received an email from my power company saying they were ready to proceed, waiting on the application from Tesla. I forwarded this to Tesla. Their reply is ‘we have 90 days to complete this application’. I called my power company and asked if this is true. The rep I spoke to said the remainder of the application is less than 100 keystrokes, but must be completed by Tesla, since they opened the application. *All attempts to get Tesla to tell me why it takes 90 days to complete the application have been met with ‘we have 90 days’ – nothing further.
Suddenly one day, my system stops working. The time was 12:00:00. Way too precise to be a coincidence in my book. I did the self-troubleshoot, to no avail. I turned the entire system off for a day to see if maybe it just got hot and needed to reset. No change. I called customer service, waited on hold, found out I don’t want customer service – I want Powerwall customer service. Called them. Went through the same troubleshoot process. Rep told me the system wasn’t communicating properly, and went into standby as an automatic safety precaution. We opened a service ticket, and she told me 7-14 calendar days for a service appointment. This was 7/15. No further communication from Tesla.
I started calling on 8/3 to ask about the missed 14-day threshold I was given. I was then told I would have to wait 20 business days (from 2 weeks to 4 weeks). When I asked why, I was told a tech would need to ping my system to see if they could reset it from the office (which is exactly what we did on 7/15). After 2 more days and 3 more calls/texts/chats, Tesla finally agreed to give me a service appointment. BUT- I would need to use the Tesla app to schedule it. My Tesla app doesn’t have the option to schedule service, so I had to call again. The rep sent a message to the scheduling dept, and I got a call within a couple of hours. My date is 8/25. Another 3 weeks. Again, no explanation why it takes so long.
I was told at one point that since I don’t have permission to operate, I was not a priority. I reminded them that this is because Tesla refuses to complete the application, not because of something I did or failed to do. It also isn’t because of the power company, who is sending me emails saying they are ready to go. No one I talk to is any help. I can’t get to a manager. I get random texts from Tesla that also don’t help. They did say they would move me up in the schedule if someone cancels. At 3 weeks for an appt, who’s going to cancel? At this point, my opinion is the appt for 8/25 should be for system removal, not service.

Great experience all around. No high pressure sales tactics like other Solar companies. Offered better solar array size for the cost as compared to others. Was able to ask questions and get help when needed through the site or calling my project manager. They did all the proper permitting (city and county) and all that I needed to do was submit HOA paperwork.
I now have a whole house backup which is very nice as we had power go out often during storms. The Powerball now switches over almost instantly where one doesn't notice power loss. Obviously one's power bill will depend on many factors, but I've had 10-12$ bills for the past few hot summer months. My decision weighed heavily on battery backup and energy independence. I also talked to other homeowners who went solar and they were similarly telling me how happy they were that they invested in solar. Obviously, one always thinks about costs, however 6 months into solar, I am happy I invested in it as I have seen the benefits first hand. All while trying to do my part to help the planet. Once I paid, everything went south! The system was supposed to generate more than my needs in electricity. I have seen no change in my electric bill. Also, I have no access to my app, a fact they have known about for 9 months and will not fix. So I don't know if the system is not working or configured incorrectly. They installed an underpowered inverter for our solar. DC/AC ratio of 1.68, that's absurd as the industry standard is around 1.20, so basically I can only get around 2/3rds the energy my panels produce at peak daylight. Losing around 2,500 kilowatt hours a year due to this when using the PV Watts calculator. They then proceeded to lie to me and say the inverter can "overclock" to 10,000 watts when it's only a 7,600 watt inverter, but they only put in a 40a 240v breaker, so that's not true at all. And they think I their customers are stupid for them even trying to pull that lie.
Then same guy in activations dept said I could cancel, yeah no that's not what the contract say. Then he says I am one of those who don't read the agreement and then hung up on me. Guess my only route is legal since they don't want to help and just keep telling me to call the other person. So if you go with Tesla, be sure your inverter size is in writing and is around DC/AC ratio of 1.20 as they are trying to rob people of money by putting in cheaper undersized inverters.

My panels are less than 2 years old, and they have now gone offline due to the inverter failing. My panels stopped producing power on May 19, 2022, and the soonest service appointment was June 13, 2022. When I called Tesla to notify them of the system going offline, they had me troubleshoot the system by going out to my inverter and explaining the failure codes to them. They confirmed the inverter had failed. One would assume based on this that the tech that showed up on June 13, 25 days later would have a replacement inverter with them, right? No! They simply confirmed the inverter issue and then placed an order with the manufacturer for a new one. Tesla does not stock the inverters they install!!
It is now July 8, over 50 days since my panels went offline, and Tesla still does not know when they will have the inverter, and then when they will install it. I am losing almost $300 in electricity bills each month, and Tesla really could not care less. Seriously, THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS!! They do not apologize, or offer solutions. System cannot be approved by our local utility (+ meter installed and system turned on) until Tesla submits paperwork to utility. 5 weeks so far and Tesla has not done this. I have contacted Tesla customer service twice; both times the answer is, "As the install agreement states it can take Tesla 7-90 busines days to process the PTO and system activation from the date of final inspection of 5/26."
Our son is a realtor in AZ. He had Tesla panels installed on his own home 2 years ago so recommended them to us. His process was much quicker at that time. Updated on 02/01/2023: In June 2022 I started a review. It was addresses, partially. After several months with a broken inverter, we're now faced with a $3300 true up, which is double what it should be. I was told we would get an "Early performance review credit" last June, but after the inverter issue was resolved, I was told we would need to wait until October 2023. I find this upsetting, considering the increased true up was due to tesla's broken inverter and our system not performing appropriately. I reached out to Jerrod in energy customer support on Jan 5th and no response. I still regret ever buying solar from tesla, yet I am stuck with the system!
Original Review: We have been without an inverter for 4months. No one can tell us who the manufacturer of the inverter is and when they're going to get ours or when it will be installed. Our true-up last year was $1700. I am sure this year it will be even higher due to the lack of performance. I wish I had used a different solar company than Solar City aka Tesla. What a joke this process has been. Additionally, initially I had to call weekly and I get the same response "I don't know" "let me check and get back to you" but no one follows up. NOW, I call every 2 weeks to be told they got a hold of the manufacturer and the inverter will arrive in 2 wks. However, when I call every two weeks... it still hasn't arrived! I don't understand how a company so big can't use a reliable manufacturer.

When I first contacted Tesla, it went crazy fast. Got the inspection and ready for the next steps. But when I tried to contact them (only way to do this is via the website, there's no phone number to call) it would take 1 to 2 weeks to get a response. Things went quiet then for months, but I attributed this to the parts shortage that I knew everyone was experiencing so I wasn't too concerned.
Then about a month ago Tesla came back and started communicating with me really well, answering my questions within an hour of asking via text message. I don't know Diana's last name but she was excellent. In fact, the communications leading up the install got almost TOO good. I was getting a text message and email almost daily!!
Day of Install came (of course, raining) and the Phoenix Team showed up (they told me to mention them, and I'm happy to) and they were really great. They did a good job and when they were done everything was gone you'd never know anyone was here. Because of the rain they had to put the panels up the next day, but if it had been nice I really think they would have gotten everything done that day. While my new system can't export electricity to the grid until after the utility company finishes the paper work they were able to turn the system on immediately and I've now been off grid for 2 days!

Cancel #2 (06/16) - After trenching, got a surprise call there was an opening and they could get me in! Yay, I thought that was good news.. But again nobody showed up... Also, they cannot even compensate for the utility bills I am paying as a result of Tesla delays. I shouldn't be paying peak summer electric bills as I have a fully paid solar system sitting on my roof but it is not operational due to Tesla delays. They consistently lied to me for about 6 months when they hadn't even submitted the paperwork to the utility company. After I started contacting utility company and questioned Tesla about no application being pending for my address, Tesla admitted to have not submitted any application. We had a straightforward solar panel installation for our home via Tesla that started in early 2021, and as of now in April 2022 it’s still not complete (despite having paid already). Every step of the way has been problematic because of poor customer service, and as a result we would never recommend Tesla to anyone for solar. Here are just a few examples:
Missed appointments with no explanations. On the other extreme, scheduling appointments with no notice and no way to change except “call this number."
Poor follow-up on permitting with the city (I ended up having to do much of the legwork with the city myself).
Scheduled permit inspections and didn’t show up, leaving the inspector angry and me missing work for nothing.
Absolutely horrific communication with project managers and service agents. I get random text messages every couple weeks, each time from seemingly a different number, informing me of certain updates, asking questions, scheduling appointments, etc. Replies are never returned. It’s like a black hole. Email communication is slightly better, but it’s rarely clear to whom to address questions. To this day, I’m still not sure how to get support but they do have a phone number that has worked.
Installers installed circuit breakers backwards, frying three of our home’s circuits. Tesla did pay to address this.
The design placed power walls in a way that was afoul of code for our city. They only informed me after installation, and then essentially suggested that I not mention it to the inspector and see if they wouldn’t notice.
We still don’t have approval from our utility to turn on the system, even though we submitted the forms many months ago. Every time we ask Tesla, they say “nothing we can do”. They also made mistakes on the forms, and we had to correct them.
There’s more but I’m too tired of writing. Long story short: horrific customer service, do not recommend.

Some things to keep in mind: I will say that Tesla's solar product line and what they do/do not support is changing by the minute, definitely get things clear with your project supervisor. For instance, I have 5 skylights and originally was told they would replace them for me. Then was told they don't do that service anymore. But eventually they honored it because of when I originally put in my inquiry.
Also their engineers will probably design the roof around protrusions without suggesting they be moved, as they don't want to handle the moving of them, such as vent pipes. So definitely suggest those things and get them taken care of by another roofing contractor before the install starts and it could mean more usable roof real estate. I also got upgraded to the latest tiles that are a higher wattage, so the size of my system went up. It's bleeding edge tech and so is changing all the time. So far, I have been very impressed with the people and the technology and would highly recommend Tesla Energy.

The "Falcon Heavy" team from Tesla Energy just finished my Solar Panel and Powerwall installs and they were from start to finish fantastic. I have had a lot of projects on my property lately; insulation, plumbing, electrical and landscaping. The Falcon Heavy team rolled in in good spirits and incredible professionalism. Every team member I interacted with was great and when it came time to talk to me about the project they went to great lengths to make sure I was comfortable with understanding everything. Great experience from start to finish.

I was really excited to get a solar roof before I ever signed up. I had wanted one since I first heard about it and was just able to afford it now. The first issue was the gutters. Before I signed up, I chatted with a representative in the in-web chat and asked about gutters. I was told that the construction team would remove the gutters prior to installation and replace them afterwards. However, when the construction team finished they left my old gutters in my yard and did not install new gutters.
When I asked my project manager about it, I was told that Tesla does not install gutters. They gave me the name of a contractor and when I had someone come give me a quote I was told their gutter system was incompatible with the Tesla roof. I called Tesla customer service and told them about it. They gave me a different contractor to reach out to. I did and they said they’d be able to install gutters. Another thing I asked them about was that when Tesla installed the conduit that leads out of my roof to my Powerwall, they left a piece of soffit missing. I had asked Tesla about it multiple times and they said they would fix it but they never did, so the gutter company fixed it for me.
A month after installation I still had not received permission to operate, so I asked Tesla about it. They told me that my utility company had sent a document that I needed to sign. When I contacted my utility company about it, they told me that I had already signed the document but that they needed Tesla’s signature. So Tesla was blaming me for a problem that was really their fault. I let them know this and forwarded the email from my utility company to them indicating that. After a week or so I got an email from my utility company saying that the paperwork had been signed and they would send someone out to install a net meter, necessary for exporting power to the grid. After that installation I received an email from my utility company granting permission to operate. That was near the end of January.
I proceeded to turn on all the switches that my installation team told me to turn on and assumed my roof was producing power. I could not get my Tesla app to work and show me how much power my system was generating. I called customer service about it and they said that I didn’t have permission to operate. I forwarded the email I got from my utility company indicating the permission. Another day on the phone, being transferred multiple times to different departments, I spent two hours on the phone and it seemed like we were close to finding the solution to the problem.
After speaking with several representatives that clearly had no idea how to help, I finally spoke with one who did seem to be able to help. However, we encountered a problem that she was unable to solve. I was told that my system was registered incorrectly and the registration had to be removed and redone properly. She said that she would reach out to a guy she thought could help and then call me back later that day. She never called back.
Since I was tired of spending so much time on the phone with them, I decided to try email. I emailed them about it, giving the specific error message I was receiving. I received a reply indicating that they would be able to solve the matter within 7-10 business days. That was two weeks ago, so it has been more than 10 business days. I asked for a status update and was told that due to a large backlog of tickets I would need to wait longer. I expressed frustration at having to make loan payments when my system isn’t even working and received a snarky reply from the representative.
It has been nearly three months since my system was installed and still it is not generating power. I called them again yesterday and was told the same thing—that another team had to do something to fix my problem. I asked if I could talk to someone on that team over the phone and was told that it was not a customer-facing team so that would not be possible. I really wanted to like the system. I think it’s a great product. But the fact that their customer service is so terrible, unhelpful, and even rude, I cannot recommend using Tesla for home solar generation.

Tesla crew was great thru installation; Tesla planning missed some details (didn’t know we had sprinklers, but those are code required, and didn’t address sprinkler orientation (no available plans) almost derailed project - however, once key employee returned it worked out. But project could have been unnecessarily terminated without completion if I hadn’t continued to reach out about the project planning lapses. Since this is a new installation we do not yet have any experiences, but the App that allows controls and settings seems to work well, and is easy enough to use. We are excited about our energy saving options going forward, and on site support has been great so far.

The issue has been resolved. When they finally sent a tech out to reconfigure the software, everything started working fine. I started this process for 12 solar panels and 2 power wall batteries in April of 2021 in order to have solar for hurricane season. They promised 6 weeks from signature to activation. They were quick to sign me up and get my loan in place for almost 40k, then just quit showing up. Nobody answers calls, texts or emails. Then they called me two months later and asked me if I dug a trench around my house yet. I never agreed to dig a trench for them to run power, but I wanted it done so I spent my weekend digging a trench. Monday they didn’t show up and when I texted them to ask if they were coming. They replied “Hey David, unfortunately that spot got filled, the next available date would be 07/08. Also please upload those picture to this email **” referring to the pictures of the trench I dug.
Two weeks later when they didn’t show, the trench filled back in from a tropical storm, which I lost power during, and didn’t have solar/battery backup as intended. So I dug the trench two more times after they kept no-showing or showing up and saying they missed something. Two months (and one more power outage later) I hear nothing and keep asking everyone through the channels available if I have the approval to turn on yet, and finally called the power company (TECO) who told me they have no record of anything being installed. I harassed everyone I could for another two months until they finally asked me for pictures of things they forgot to photograph so they could submit the paperwork.
A week later I get approval to power on. I power on and nothing works. Back into the loop of asking anyone and everyone to get it to work. They confirmed via phone that my solar cells are cranking out 2.6KW of electricity, and everything appears online after the third call over two weeks. Then they told me they moved me to tier 2 support, and now it’s been two weeks and still no response. Long story short, I’ve been paying for this system for 10 months, with no power savings, no protection from the 4 outages I’ve had, and NOBODY AT TESLA CARES AT ALL!!! I’m looking for anyone starting a class action lawsuit that I will gladly be a part of, or any attorney wanting to take it on.

Our Tesla Solar system has been an adventure for us. I am very happy that we went with Tesla even though there are improvement areas they need to address, especially related to consumer experience. We absolutely love the look of the Tesla solar panels (nobody else comes close) and the features of the Powerwall+ equipment (best API in the industry which makes it expandable). In typical Tesla fashion, the design is stunning, next level technology and feels like quality. With our Tesla system, we are now powering our home with an ancient but reliable and self-regulating, thermonuclear fusion reactor… our sun. It is performing extremely well and we are looking forward to many years of green energy.
If you select Tesla Solar, my advice is to plan on being the project manager. Stay on top of all the details, be proactive to keep things just like you want them and moving along. Unfortunately, due to the great price and product, the Tesla project advisors are overloaded and seem to be too busy to help you at times. They rarely respond in a timely fashion. But when they do, they are friendly and helpful. The long spans and dropped balls along the way can be frustrating. Being hands on will help you stay on track and get even more out of the investment. Believe me, the outcome is worth the effort.
To be fair, I had the pleasure of meeting several Tesla employees and technicians that were incredibly helpful and experts in their trade. The installers and quality assurance engineering team members were top notch. Overall, I believe Tesla is ahead of the curve when it comes to making solar energy accessible, practical and even delightful! Highly recommended. Our full adventure is chronicled here: **.

About a year ago, I contacted Tesla because I noticed a few water spots in a few places on the top floor of my house. They told me that if, after checking on it, it was not caused by the panels, I would be charged $600. Two months after they came out, I called them because I had not heard anything. It was probably four months before I finally got a call from the Tesla’s Resolution Center, apologizing for the delay. I was then told (without admitting any fault) that I needed to get three quotes from roofers for the repair/replacement of my roof and send to Tesla. Each roof company that came said that Tesla should never have put the panels on there, given the condition of the roof in certain areas. One even took pictures of places where panel installation caused damage. After sending three quotes to Tesla, I got a call from them telling me they were turning over my claim to their insurance company.
A couple weeks later (October 14, 2021) I got a voicemail message from the Claims Representative at Liberty Mutual to discuss my Tesla claim. I called and called this Claims Rep. multiple times before she called me back on December 7. It was then that she requested I send her the three quotes from roof companies. I sent that information to her on December 8. I’ve never heard anything more from the Claims Rep., in spite of me calling and emailing several times. Unexpectedly, (i.e., no calls or emails) a contractor was sent to my home to patch and paint two of the areas with leak damage in my home. I had to call Tesla on the spot to verify that the person was actually sent by them. The only information he had was that Tesla concluded they were only responsible for two of the five spots. They’ve never sent me anything! I should note that, I went ahead and replaced my roof in September 2021. It definitely needed it.
Tesla had indicated that, after review by their insurance company, they would reimburse me for a portion of the replacement cost. As of January 2022, I’ve not heard ANYTHING from either Tesla or their insurance company. It should also be noted that, the panels were removed by Tesla in September, and I could not get on the schedule for reinstallation until January. Each month that the panels were not up, I had to pay the monthly fee. Am I happy with them? Can’t say that I am. Absolutely lousy customer service!!!

I messaged the online chat through my account to find out what was happening, no one replied. 6 weeks later I got some designs and wanted to ask how the panels were attached to my TPO roof. Again no one replied to the chat through my account. I went in to a store and asked what was happening they said they'd try to send a request to the call center, I never had a reply.
I had received a text message from someone called Rina ** when I first signed up so I reached out to them via text to ask my questions. They didn't reply but someone called Carmine who was covering for Rina did and told me to send a message through my account. I explained I'd been doing that for months and no one was replying. Finally Rina responded and asked what my questions were, after a week and me following up again Rina said they don't install solar panels on TPO roofs.
I asked why I was able to get so far with the application if that was the case they said it was a mistake on the computer. I am so utterly disappointed with how useless this company is. I thought Tesla would be decent company and I can't quite believe it is Tesla because they are so awful and feel the solar team must be a company that they outsource to. How could someone selling solar for Tesla not know what roofs the panels can be attached to? Well my Tesla solar experience started in August of 2021. I happen to be shopping around for solar for my home and found Tesla had the best bang for the buck, at least dollar and cents wise. Little did I know that it would be a constant battle trying to get my system installed. Once I signed up with Tesla I spoke to a Project Adviser. To move the process forward I emailed him pictures, locations and plans of where the equipment needs to be installed. I received a vanilla layout of where Tesla wanted to install the equipment. I immediately contacted my project adviser. I explained that I sent him the correct locations and he told me this is the way Tesla does it and that I would need to put in a change request which would take up to 30 days. I asked him why this was not explained to me up front when I told him I would send him the information. He never forwarded the information to the necessary departments.
A few weeks after a Tesla survey person came to my home to do an onsite survey. I asked him if he received the information I sent to my project adviser, he replied, No. A few weeks later I finally received the correct plans. After almost a month in County plan check and 3 revisions from Tesla, my plans were approved. I had to contact Tesla to let them know they were approved after I contacted the County permit department to get a status. After many, many phone calls it The system is was partially installed late December 2021. BUT STILL NOT WORKING (Generating Power for my home)
Take aways. It is impossible to contact anyone at Tesla other than a Project Adviser which in many cases I found was unable to answer my questions. The answer I would get most of the time was "I will send that department a message and I will get back to you." They never did. I had to call Tesla time again and time again. Tesla says they do the job in order it receives it, And it would be complete within 90 days, I found this not to be true. My neighbor signed up for Tesla solar almost 3 weeks after I did and got his Tesla solar installed 2 weeks before I did and is able to generate power for his home. I am still waiting for a backup switch to be installed. I was told this could be months, but they want to be paid in full.
All through the process I explained to Tesla that this system needed to be installed, up and running for me to use the system before the end of the year. Tesla's reply was always "that will not be a problem". One note is that the install team (the Tesla personnel that installed the equipment were great). So as I sit here with a $36000.00 system, not able to use it, I would think twice about using Tesla. If you have plenty of time and like sleepless nights Tesla might be your choice.

Tesla keeps coming out to fix one thing, doesn’t do it right and has to come back out to do complete the task to code. During demo the Tesla crew broke a paver on my back porch. Initially they were going to take care of the repair. When they realized it was harder than it looked they passed the job for me to reach out to the paver company for repair. Mind you the pavers were brand new and had just been installed June 2021. They left nails everywhere on the ground. I had to do a walk through everyday to make sure they had picked everything up so none of those nails ended up in our tires.
The garage demo left the entire interior of my garage filthy. There was debris everywhere that I ended up cleaning myself with a shop vac because they didn’t do a thorough enough job. The roof demo ended up ruining my garage fridge and receiver. I’m still waiting to hear back from Azeem to resolve that issue. I had to hold Tesla Energy’s hand and help facilitate city permits. If I didn’t go to city hall and get a hold of the permit department, Anna ** from tesla energy would have continued to delay approval of the permit when all she had to do was fill out a single sheet of paper and pay the permit fee.
At this point we’re at 3 or 4 permit revisions, 4 or more city inspections and still not approved by the city. I entered into an agreement with Tesla Energy to install a 16.3 kW system with 4 Powerwalls on 9/29/20. The entire project was plagued by multiple problems. To begin with, the Tesla advisor who was assigned to me rarely picked up his phone I called. I had to talk to a different person each time. To compound the problem, most of these reps did not update my case, forcing me to repeat all the details every time I had a conversation with a new rep.
I had informed the Tesla surveyor during the initial survey of the multiple tall palm trees in my neighbor's yard that would be blocking the afternoon sunlight. I had therefore requested to have optimized inverters instead of standard inverters. I was told by him not to worry about it and that the inverters would be replaced if needed. The replacement did not happen even as the leaves are now shading a large portion of the panels in the afternoon. I am currently not getting the solar production that I had paid for.
The installation crew was brought in from Hawaii. They did not follow local codes. The system failed city inspection and had to be redone, delaying the installation and creating multiple unnecessary holes (which, by the way, were not patched) in my garage wall. Next, the emergency power off boxes were installed without the fuses! The brand new inverter failed within 2 weeks of installation. The installer then did not show up as scheduled and did not bother to inform me, causing me to miss an entire day of work. The replacement inverter that he installed failed 3 months later. I went through 3 inverters within the first 4 months.
The regional manager knew of all the problems and told me to ask for compensation at the time of payment. He, unfortunately, left the company before my project was completed. His replacement from Tesla Energy offered $200 for a $65,000 system and told me to take it or leave it. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The Tesla rep who responded just wanted to ask me if the system was functioning. He cut me off when I tried to discuss my issues. He then posted this message on the BBB website: "A resolution has been presented to the customer and Tesla stands firm on its decision". An insulting and false boiler plate response from this company. I regret choosing Tesla Energy for my solar needs and I would advise people shopping for solar power to avoid this company.

Tesla installed my solar panels and PowerWall+ backup 2 months ago. There was an problem with one of the inverters, which was fixed within about a week. Satisfied that the issue was resolved, I paid the $52,000 invoice for the system. Not long after, the inverter started acting up again and would no longer function at all (meaning that an entire solar array would not produce any solar at all). Tesla sent out a tech about a week later, who was unable to fix the problem. He said the inverter likely needed to be replaced, and that he would be back as soon as they could schedule me.
A month went by, and I had received no calls from Tesla. I called them and learned that they had improperly CLOSED my case, as if it had been resolved (which it had not). This was despite the fact that they acknowledged that notes from the tech said that he was unable to fix the inverter. The Tesla rep said my issue would be escalated and resolved within a few days.
It has now been nearly two weeks, and still no call from Tesla. I have tried calling them a few times, and they say they are still working on it and would be getting back to me soon. I'm not holding my breath. It seems that as soon as I paid the $52K, Tesla's urgency on my case has dropped off significantly. This is frustrating, because all I can do is wait.
In my view, I should have had a fully-functioning system from day one. I understand that sometimes there are hiccups, but they should have made a much more significant effort to fix my inverter immediately, given that I had already paid them fully for it. I am at their mercy and can't do anything to speed along the process. Tesla has my whole $52K, and I have half of a working system. My experience apparently is not unlike many others I have spoken to. It's unfortunate, and I think reflects very poorly on the Tesla brand.

I want to start off by saying was a huge fan of Tesla and their mission. I own a Model 3 which I love and feel good about supporting a company who conceptually is trying to do good for the planet. Best laid plans that are not properly executed can be disasters! I gave my deposit for the installation Tesla Large solar panel system September 2020 and after a year + my system was finally installed 5 weeks ago. Overall the installation went well with the exception that they forgot the "gateway". This device that lets me and Tesla see what's going on with the system. It's equivalent to driving blind!
A week after the install I had to start calling the customer service department to find out what was going on. They knew nothing about the gateway not being installed and I was assured that this would be taken care of immediately. 5 more call all with the same empty promises and lies I was even given a fictitious FedEx #. Every time I would ask to speak to a supervisor I would be put on a very lengthy hold then transferred to another customer service rep who could do nothing. There is a purposeful and deliberate stone wall preventing a customer from speaking to any upper level management at Tesla Solar. I have never received a call back from anyone in management, which tells me either the messages are never sent to them or they just don't care. Very, very disappointing!
Also though I would add that for a company that is technically labeled a technology company how terrible their customer portal is. There have been issue after issue of the wrong information being displayed (very important contractual information) and I have brought it to their attention and been told they don't know how to fix it. This is completely unacceptable! I know It's not going to happen but I'll ask again anyway; I would very much appreciate a call from someone in upper management. Show me you care and prove me wrong!

The Tesla Solar/Solar City Sales team were deceitful in their selling tactics and once the system was installed and radically under performing they were absent. Tesla Customer service has left me on hold for over hours at a time and once after 3 hours disconnected me. I was told when installing my panels that I would need a new roof in a few years but not to worry because Tesla would take down the panels, stack them in my yard and then re-install them at no charge. Now that I have requested this service they want me to pay close to $6000 and would not be able to do it for a few months. In addition, if I hire a 3rd party to remove the panels they can charge me for damage to the already well worn panels that to date have not provided enough output to offset my energy bill. Stay away from Tesla Solar at any cost. The Tesla name is used as a selling tactic. They do not stand behind their products or promises.

The beginning of my experience seemed smooth i.e., ordering and getting the Powerwall’s installed however it is going on (5) five months since the Powerwall’s were installed and still waiting to be turned on and I just received an email from the electric provider stating that I have (14) fourteen days to interconnect this generating system or a new application will need to be submitted which will in turn set getting my system up and running another 30 to 90 days depending on how long Tesla drags their feet on getting my project taken care of. Also, another note is the customer service sucks, if you look at the webpage for your account it states to contact my service advisor but does not state who that is. I would not recommend Tesla to anyone at this point.

My customer experience with Tesla Solar and Powerwall installation was fairly smooth. After roughly 18 months of the system being in service, the system failed. Apparently Tesla did not safe proof the solar system from the outdoor/nature/wildlife. How did they not think of this before? That said, it took them 2 months to come out just to determine the issue, and now another 2 months and counting, and still no word on when they are coming out to fix the issue. So new customers are their first priority, and existing customers are the least of their priority? I will update this if they ever come around to fix the issue.

I went through the process with a different installer and ended up backing out and going with Tesla. I love how the panels integrate with the car app and how you get a visualization of the power as it moves in and out of your home. The power graphs are awesome and I love needing out on seeing my daily rates. Installers and team were very professional and nice. The panels look very sleek and the inverter looks classy. They put the panels on the roof where they weren't visible from the front (per request). Where I can see them from the side, they look amazing. Honestly kinda regret not putting them in the front to show them off, but it's pretty awesome they provide that option.
Tesla had cheapest price per watt in my area. By far. Happy with the process, features and look. Long term I'll see how their support and panels hold up, so no feedback there as it's a new install. My one complaint is that they are no longer selling batteries as a standalone product. I opted out of the power wall (despite really wanting it) to keep the costs lower. I would like to get one after I pay off the system and when home battery technology has improved - but might have to go with a diff brand if they don't change their policy by then. Or I may just buy additional panels then with the batteries. Overall, very pleased. Only knock is the battery policy, so I hope they change that - would like to include that in the future even if it's not discounted or whatever. My wife is already annoyed at me for checking that power app every hour.

It is impossible to talk to a human at Tesla. You are NOTHING to them. Plus, to pay, they force you to enter your bank account user ID and password into their app. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? The arrogance!! Then it takes you days to actually find a loophole around this by only linking your bank account to them. Don’t be fooled, THEY ARE IN CONTROL of your payments. Credit card is only for the initial order setup. Everything is direct access to your account. Then you’re paying for nothing and no one updating you and no number or website to call. As far as Tesla is concerned, once they have your money, you don’t exist.

I started the solar panel project at the end of 2020. And the system was turned on in June 2021. I have 24 panels totally. But 8 panels were not connected correctly by the installation crew. So I started the long journey of communicating with the maintenance team. They had sent the technicians to my house 3 times but it didn't help, and the panel performance even got worse and worse. Then, the maintenance team doesn't even schedule a maintenance for my panels any more. Now, every time when I call the customer service, they just tell me that the maintenance team will call me within 24 hours to schedule the appointment, but it never happens. I really don't know what I can do now. It usually took me 1~2 hours to wait in the queue to talk to a customer agent on the phone, which doesn't really help but the only thing I can do. Could someone give me some suggestion to solve this problem?

So the Tesla app is useless, and after the horrible experience trying to get anyone to even talk to me about the 3 month delay on turning on my system after they installed a faulty converter leads me to believe nothing will be done anyhow. I was super pumped about getting solar from tesla. Last system I had on my old house was installed by MTS solar. At least they have a number I can call and ask questions about issues with my system. I will ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend tesla solar to anyone after this.

Long story short, I’m at 6 weeks and counting with no energy production and absolutely zero contact by Tesla Customer Service. They are very prompt until they receive their money, after that I was literally told that I was out of luck and they’ll get to me when they get to me. I contacted Tesla in the spring to upgrade my solar system. It is fall now half a year later and although they were fairly quick to get it installed and get my money, they have fallen silent after that. I contacted the utility and they had never gotten the paperwork for permission to operate. I got in touch with this "advisor" who seems to be powerless to do anything and was told that they were busy. Not an excuse. I continuously hounded them calling every other day to check status till they finally submitted the paperwork.
Now the utility tells me there are errors in the forms and they have contacted Tesla but have heard back, Of course, do I wait another 3 or 4 months and hope they do something. I am planning on taking them to small claims court in the next week or two in hopes of at least getting my money back. I highly recommend not using using Tesla for solar. I don't know if their car division is run any better but it certainly makes me suspicious. Tesla does not answer emails. Apparently not from the utilities either. Tesla's customer service sucks, it is non existent! I mean when you can get a hold of someone. I bought a home with Tesla solar already on the house in 2020. I took me 6 months to get someone to come out and check my system. When the Tech went on the roof, he immediately came down and shut my system down and said there was a serious wiring/connector problem. It took 3 weeks for a crew to come out and fix the issues. I also was complaining about my Solar City gateway, it transmitted to Tesla but does not transmit to any device, like my phone app. I have been asking for a new one and Customer service refuses. It's been over a year now, and I still can't get my malfunctioning internet gateway replaced. Why is this such a big deal? All I want is a replacement gateway, They keep arguing with me and say they don't do that. They get me so frustrated and angry, This is Customer service????
I also called and spoke to a Customer service rep about the three week shut down of my system, looking for a Month credit, they said they do not do that. I have to wait until 2022 when they evaluate their performance guarantee. I might get a credit then and maybe not. This company really has a lot to learn about customer service. It's becoming a monopoly and they don't care about their customers. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! I will NEVER recommend them - EVER!!!

Production has always been a little bit low compared to promise but not overwhelmingly so. After 2.5 years of use I got an email the system was down. During a phone call to troubleshoot I was told they needed to replace a part and I would be contacted the next work day to schedule. Nobody ever called. After a few days I reached out and couldn't really get an answer about the status of the repair. After a few weeks of trying back to find out what was going on a rep told me this part would take four to six weeks to arrive. I waited until 2 months passed the breakdown and reached out. Messages go unanswered and still no fix in sight. Tesla is still installing solar panels in my area so the part must be available. Given the opaque warranty customer service and performance of my system I would strongly not recommend.

I had been dealing with redesign since my system was underperforming. While this was going on, there was a hail damage and my roof needed to be replaced. Tesla from time of request they gave 2 months to come and take down the roof and told they will put it back in 4 weeks time. However they took 2 months for the panels to be back on Roof. I reached out to Customer support and they gave me a scheduling slot of 12/16 which is 3 months away.

Up until completion, we were pretty much a 10/10 and ready to recommend to our friends and family. Can only say positive things about the installation and aesthetics. However, despite our installation having been completed almost two months ago, we do not have ANY solar ability, none of our paperwork has been provided so that we can disconnect from our local utility company and are now paying for solar tiles we cannot use along with our usual electric bill. As an added bonus, with two hurricanes hitting our area in the last month, we've had the pleasure of losing power in our home despite our installed roof and power banks - because it's just not hooked up or working.
Two Tesla "project managers" have been assigned to us and apparently either quit or were fired, so we have nobody to help or reply to our inquiries. We essentially have the pleasure of having paid 5x what we would have for a regular roof with nothing to show for it. Their customer service team appears to have a revolving door in terms of staffing policy, and to say we are beyond frustrated doesn't even begin to cover it. Moral of the story: Imagine receiving a monthly bill in excess of $600 for a car you cannot drive? If you'd like that, you'll love your Tesla Solar Roof experience.
